Njhs Essay Examples
NJHS Essay
It is truly an honor to be recognized by National Junior Honor Society. I realize it will take so much
more than fantastic grades to be a part of NJHS. It will require tremendous commitment,
determination, and a significant amount of time. I honestly believe that an NJHS member should
always feel the need to always help others. The volunteer spirit should not only be shown in the
community, but at home, church, and in school.
The five pillars of scholarship are: service, leadership, scholarship, character, and citizenship.
Service is an action of helping or doing work for another person. I have been volunteering at the
Moravian church in Nazareth. Myself and the other volunteers prepare sandwiches and other snacks.
We work to serve the lunches to the underprivileged families. I've also volunteered at the Nazareth
Area Food Bank. When the food bank receives food, the volunteers...show more content...
Last year I made it on High Honor Roll all three trimesters. Academic achievement comes easy for
some. For others, like me, it requires hard work, effort, and a tremendous amount of time studying.
Character is defined as one's moral qualities. I have very high expectations for my character, and I
hold myself to them. Every time a person isn't the nicest to me or someone else, I remind myself
not to stoop to their level. I tell myself, "Treat others how you would want to be treated." I will
always treat myself and everyone around me with respect, courtesy, and kindness.
I am a great citizen in many ways. I am active in my community and I offer my assistance when
needed. I am an honest and trustworthy citizen. I follow all of the rule and laws, and take
responsibility for my actions. All in all, NJHS will be a great opportunity and if I am accepted I
will do my best to serve my community, lead my classmates, strive for the highest possible academic
achievement, and model what it truly means to be a Nazareth Blue

Emotions Essay examples
Emotions No matter how hard you try, you cannot
control your emotions, only attempt to hide them.
Emotions influence every aspect of our lives, what we
do, what we say, and et cetera. All of our emotions,
from anger to insecurity, are influenced by several
factors, just as our lives are influenced by our
emotions (Gelinas, Emotions 35). First of all, it
causes problems when one does not trust himself, and
it shows up in many ways. Some people brag to call
attention to themselves, causing others to believe
that the egoistic person has a lot of self–respect.
Very often though, egotism can be an attempt to cover
up insecurity in a person who does not feel they will
be good enough without it (Gelinas, Emotions 36)....show more content...
Many factors influence anger. Most anger is
caused by a situation that makes one feel
uncomfortable (Licata 14). This uncomfortable feeling
could also be described as feeling threatened. Feeling
threatened could lead to angry feelings because a
threat can cause harm. Things that could make one feel
threatened include disapproval, betrayal, deprivation,
exploitation, manipulation, frustration, violence, and
humiliation (Gaylin 95). One has their own ways of
handling anger, most of which are unhealthy. Denial is
one way of handling anger by using self–deception. In
denial, one does not allow themselves to register a
feeling that is threatening in one way or another
(Gaylin 96). Bigotry is another way of handling anger.
"A person that is prone to anger must create an object
to be angry at. Therefore, the object of the anger is
not the cause of the bigot's pain, but the solution"
(Gaylin 114). Anger can sometimes turn into hate. Some
different terms for hate could be annoyance,
irritation, hostility, or maliciousness. Some of the
"symptoms" of hate include wanting to hurt, humiliate,
damage, destroy, threaten, and wanting to seek revenge
on someone. Some people try to justify their actions
by having the motive of wanting to destroy to rebuild
on a stronger foundation (Gelinas, Anger 12). There

My Core Values
As I have grown as an adult and moved further towards success in my life, I have always
maintained a guided structure to achieve goals and tasks that challenge me. I call these my "Core
Values". This is a strict regimen or a belief system that I have instilled into my everyday practice to
complete any task that presents itself. Although not perfected, I have found this method to be quite
successful. My work ethic, responsibility, and my drive to further my education and knowledge
have never failed me. Life can seem tough and demanding on a very consistent basis, but I believe
that I have cultivated a plan to accommodate and withstand any trial

To build responsibility as a child I volunteered to take care of my family dog. Even though she was
the family's pet I took it upon myself to make sure she was properly fed, watered, and walked. My
mother was very proud of my new development as an adolescent. She became very encouraging
and would come up with other special chores around the house that I could be relied upon to
handle. To some children this would seem like a punishment, but both of my parents were so
supportive and persuasive that I looked forward to having the gained accountability. My father
instituted honesty and respect as monuments for responsibility. I of course struggled at times
with taking care of my dog, and handling some of my other chores. But my father always wanted
me to not only be honest with my parents, but also with myself. He stated that a lie would not
benefit anybody and it was disrespectful to tell a lie. He would tell me that a liar was the same as
a cheater, and nobody liked either. If I knew how to respect others and be honest, than my
responsibility would only increase. I asked why I would want added responsibility and my father
told me two things that changed my perspective completely. First, it was that responsible people
always tended to be more successful. Since I had always dreamed of growing up to be rich and
famous, I guess I could accept the added responsibility. The second thing he told me was that one

Abortion, when the topic comes up, it is usually something people do not like to discuss. People
may tend to avoid this issue for fear of offending or angering others but it is extremely important
that the horrors of this brutal practice be addressed. During the years 1965–1996 over 515 million
babies have been murdered, this is if you add the number of chemical and surgical abortions
(www.rockforlife.org). This is what we need to understand: abortion kills and we need to know where
it came from.
The legalization of abortion started in Mississippi in the year 1966; it was used in the cases of
rape. Then other states began to expand the use of abortion. For instance, if it was the case of rape,

One way is called Partial Birth Abortion (D&X); it can kill babies up to thirty–two weeks old.
The abortionist (murderer in this case) removes all of the baby from the mother except for the
head, he then jab a pair of scissors in the back of the babies skull and then he uses a suction hose to
suck out the babies brain. Then he uses forceps to crush the babies' skull and pull the rest of the
babies' body out. Salt poisoning is also used, where salt is injected and the bay dies of convulsions
due to salt poisoning (www.rockforlife.org). If they can say this is not murder, then what is?
Abortion is not painless for the mother either. Over ninety–seven percent of women have reported
feeling pain it is often described as intense, severe, or very severe. Abortion is also not without side
effects. Complications such as bleeding, hemorrhaging, menstrual disturbances or inflammation of
the reproductive organs. Sometimes abortion can cause damage to the uterus and make the woman
infertile for the rest of her life. (Abortion some medical facts pamphlet.) Also if you are a women
and have had an abortion you increase your chances of having breast cancer by fifty percent.
Abortion has no good results in for the mother or the poor murdered baby. In the end it will always
cause physical and emotional pain.
What do religious beliefs have to do with abortion? They have everything to do with

Marie's cab was downstairs, so Gabe accompanied her down and returned to tell him the members
of the press had grown in number. Neil quickly arranged with the doorman to leave the building
unseen, via a basement exit. The streets were wet for it had rained and it was 7:00 PM dark.
Walking a block or two from the building he managed to find a cab.
When he emerged from the cab at West End Avenue, he immediately saw Devin. Gabe had called
him out of concern with his first visit home. Freddie greeted him solemnly and they went in and up
by the elevator. He walked towards the apartment door with the strolling pace he'd used hundreds of
times, put the key in the tumbler, unlocking the door.
"Devin, I've got to go this alone. Please wait...show more content...
He and his mother were joined with the love of that work. When he finished playing he went back
to the front door and beckoned Devin, who was sitting on the floor with his arms around his tightly
drawn up legs. His face showed relief and he quickly rose with Neil's help and followed him back in.
It was the kitchen he had ignored earlier, but this time he switched on the light and stared at the
pristine tiles on the floor, but could not recall that awful scene at all. His whole body and mind was
rebelling against it.
He walked to the fridge and opened it. The light went on revealing its basic emptiness, only canned
soda and beer. Neil chose the latter and tossed one to Devin then walked over to the breakfast table
and sat down, Devin followed obediently and sat across from his student, snapping the tabs in sync
and sipping the brew looking at each other.
"That Traumerei sounded beautiful. That was your mom's favorite. She told me that many times."
Devin moved the beer can in a circle over the black onyx table top waiting for Neil to say
something. Neil said nothing, just watched the moving, circling can. He wanted to ask why he had
remained in the lieutenants' office, but he didn't.
"Tomorrow I'm moving back in. I've got to see if I can live here again."
"Do you want me to come along?"
"No," said Neil emphatically."It has to be a solo event. If it turns out to be too much, I have many
choices I can make, even crashing at Mr. and

Non-Traditional Students Essay example
With today's changing world and the economy the way it is, it is not uncommon for people of all
ages to enter the college setting. In fact, two–thirds of students entering the college setting are
classified non–traditional (Brown, 2007). Bill (2003) found that there was an 11% increase of
non–traditional student enrollment from 1991–1998 displaying 35% in 91 and 46% in 1998. These
numbers have since increased according to Jacobson & Harris (2008) showing that half to 75% of
undergraduates consist of the non–traditional student sitting the reasons for reentering the college
setting to be economic. What exactly defines a non–traditional student and what services may they

Non–traditional students need services that aid them with their self–confidence. The non–traditional
student may need added encouragement from the counselor that the choice that has been made suits
his career options. He may need assurance that he correctly using the internet to research occupations
of interest. The traditional student on the other hand may find it beneficial to be a part of peer
counseling programs or internships.
Question # 2 Career Counseling can be beneficial to everyone that seeks employment. However,
when seeking advice and assistance on something as important as a career, people should know the
credentials of the counselor. Many individuals that pursue career counseling follow a variety of code
of ethics and ethical guidelines according to Brown (2007). With this being said, it is important that
career counseling practice should be regulated.
According to Porter, Gildon, & Zgliczynski (2000), people claiming to be counselors is a serious
problem in the state of California because no formal standards are set for appropriate licensure
except for that of a marriage counselor. This lack of standards and credentials causes many
problems for those seeking advice and assistance with a particular problem. More importantly, the
public is not protected even if they take a case to court and the "counselor" is found guilty. What is
to be taken away? He can continue to practice because he does not have a certificate to begin with.

Essay Growing Up
When I Grow Up..
"Being 'grown up' isn't as fun as the idea of growing up."
–AmberGrace Seguin
Remember when we were young and all we could think of was growing up and getting to do
'grownup' things? We spent our whole childhood thinking of what we would do when we finally
'grew up', and here we are, almost completely grown up and we still haven't made up our mind of
what it is we will do when we grow up. We've painted this pretty little picture in our head of what
it'll be like when we eventually do grow up, and when it finally comes for the picture to be taken off
the wall and put into action, it's not nearly as fun as creating the painting.
"Growing old is mandatory, growing up is optional."
–Anonymous

"The day the child realizes that all adults are imperfect, he becomes an adolescent; the day he
forgives them, he becomes an adult; the day he forgives himself, he becomes wise." –Alden Nowlan
As we continue to grow up, we learn that being grown up is not as we imagined it. We once
convinced ourselves that growing up was the goal to achieve, and life would be much better once
we were in fact grown up. When we in fact do grow up, we think back at our youth and laugh
because we thought growing up was the most wondrous thing to accomplish, but now, more than
ever, we crave for our youth; for the days we would sit in the grass and daydream of what we are to
become when we grow up; and finally for the days when life was simple and we could imagine it
any which way we wanted it and no one could do a thing about it.
"A grownup is a child with layers on." –Woody

  • 6. The Inheritance Essay examples Marie's cab was downstairs, so Gabe accompanied her down and returned to tell him the members of the press had grown in number. Neil quickly arranged with the doorman to leave the building unseen, via a basement exit. The streets were wet for it had rained and it was 7:00 PM dark. Walking a block or two from the building he managed to find a cab. When he emerged from the cab at West End Avenue, he immediately saw Devin. Gabe had called him out of concern with his first visit home. Freddie greeted him solemnly and they went in and up by the elevator. He walked towards the apartment door with the strolling pace he'd used hundreds of times, put the key in the tumbler, unlocking the door. "Devin, I've got to go this alone. When he finished playing he went back to the front door and beckoned Devin, who was sitting on the floor with his arms around his tightly drawn up legs. His face showed relief and he quickly rose with Neil's help and followed him back in. It was the kitchen he had ignored earlier, but this time he switched on the light and stared at the pristine tiles on the floor, but could not recall that awful scene at all. His whole body and mind was rebelling against it. He walked to the fridge and opened it. The light went on revealing its basic emptiness, only canned soda and beer. Neil chose the latter and tossed one to Devin then walked over to the breakfast table and sat down, Devin followed obediently and sat across from his student, snapping the tabs in sync and sipping the brew looking at each other. "That Traumerei sounded beautiful. That was your mom's favorite. She told me that many times." Devin moved the beer can in a circle over the black onyx table top waiting for Neil to say something. Neil said nothing, just watched the moving, circling can. He wanted to ask why he had remained in the lieutenants' office, but he didn't. "Tomorrow I'm moving back in. I've got to see if I can live here again." "Do you want me to come along?" "No," said Neil emphatically."It has to be a solo event. • 8. Essay Growing Up When I Grow Up.. "Being 'grown up' isn't as fun as the idea of growing up." –AmberGrace Seguin Remember when we were young and all we could think of was growing up and getting to do 'grownup' things? We spent our whole childhood thinking of what we would do when we finally 'grew up', and here we are, almost completely grown up and we still haven't made up our mind of what it is we will do when we grow up. We've painted this pretty little picture in our head of what it'll be like when we eventually do grow up, and when it finally comes for the picture to be taken off the wall and put into action, it's not nearly as fun as creating the painting. "The day the child realizes that all adults are imperfect, he becomes an adolescent; the day he forgives them, he becomes an adult; the day he forgives himself, he becomes wise." –Alden Nowlan As we continue to grow up, we learn that being grown up is not as we imagined it. We once convinced ourselves that growing up was the goal to achieve, and life would be much better once we were in fact grown up. When we in fact do grow up, we think back at our youth and laugh because we thought growing up was the most wondrous thing to accomplish, but now, more than ever, we crave for our youth; for the days we would sit in the grass and daydream of what we are to become when we grow up; and finally for the days when life was simple and we could imagine it any which way we wanted it and no one could do a thing about it.
