Similarities Between Confucianism And Buddhism
There are a number of similarities between the eastern religions and philosophies of Confucianism,
Buddhism and Hinduism. While Hinduism is centered around a supreme being, Buddhism and
Confucianism are centered around the teachings of a man. Each encourages moral behavior, ethical
values, such as non violence, charity, and a respect for the universe. To better understand the
philosophical similarities and differences between Confucianism, Buddhismand Hinduism, it is
important first to consider the teachings of Buddha, Patanjali and Confucius in their historical
context. Buddhism is a tradition that evolved from the original teachings of Siddhartha Gautama,
the Buddha or Enlightened One. Buddha was born a Hindu in about 563 B.C.E. He was of
aristocratic birth and grew up in relative luxury and the security of the ruling class of that period.
At age twenty nine, he tired of his comfortable existence and renounced the world and went in
search of wisdom. Tradition states that he attained enlightenment on a full moon day in May under
a fig tree. According to Buddha s teachings, the purpose of life is to end suffering and develop
compassion for all living things without discrimination. He taught that meditation must be used to
move beyond selfish concerns and desires. Only by quieting the mind can people connect with the
power of the larger universe and reach a state of enlightenment and peace. Buddha s teaching, or
dharma, begins with the Four Noble Truths. He disclosed

Nigerian Information, Communication And Technology
The Nigerian information, communication and technology (ICT) sector is a fast emerging sector
which has seen rapid growth since early 1990 s and information technology is a recent phenomenon
in Nigeria (Ogunsola Aboyade, 2005). However, the telecommunications arm of the sector dates
back to 1923 with the first trunk of telephone service (Ofulue, 1980). Prior to 1992, the legal
framework guiding the telecommunications and broadcasting in Nigeria was the promulgated
Wireless Telegraph Act (WTA) by the British colonial government in 1935 (Odufuwa, 2012).
Beginning from the 1950s the telecommunication sector began to see some substantial expansion as

The 1992 policy deregulation changed the face of ICT in Nigeria at a time when computer usage
was becoming popular. This policy liberalisation also removed the control of the sector from the

Improving The Digital Divide And The 21st Century
Information Technology is becoming more and more important in all aspects of people lives
nowadays, namely access to computers and internet. It is believed that technology will guide
businesses in the 21st century. However, it is argued that it would be nonsense to strongly rely on
computer when in fact, for the big portion of population, access to computer and internetis not a
reality. The main purpose of this essay is to outline the advantage and disadvantages of
improving the digital divide by firstly address all the factors or barriers that contribute to the
digital divide issues. Next, it will come up with some alternative solutions of how digital divide
can be overcome and lastly, this essay will outline all the advantages and disadvantages of bridging
the digital divide.
Interaction between human and the information technology is increasing greatly in the 21st
century. The ability to access to information technology is significantly important for a person to
actively take part in the economic, social aspect of the world. However, there are only 39% of
world population have access to this technology (Refer to Appendix 1). The term Digital Divide
has quickly become so popular that it has entered everyday speech as shorthand for any and every
disparity within the online community. In this essay, the digital divide or digital split refers to the
gap between the underprivileged members of the society, namely those who are poor; live in rural
area or elderly, and

Colorado River Basin Essay
The Colorado River Basin starts in the Rocky Mountains and cuts through 1500 miles of canyon
lands and deserts of seven US states and two Mexican states to supply a collection of dams and
reservoirs with water to help irrigate cropland, support 40 million people, and provide
hydroelectric power for the inland western United States [1,2]. From early settlement, rights over
the river have been debated and reassigned to different states in the upper and lower basin;
however, all the distribution patterns lead to excessive consumption of the resource. In 1922, the
seven US states signed into the Colorado River Compact, which outlined the policy for the
distribution rights to the water [3], however, this compact was written during an exceptionally...

As previously mentioned, the Colorado River compact was written and signed during abnormally
wet climate cycles [4]. When the climate cycled back into the more traditional drier climate
during the mid twentieth century, the river no longer made it to the Gulf of California. While this
was not an immediate concern as water levels remained well above the critical elevation, recent
global warming trends have played a major role in the decline water supply in the Colorado River
Basin. Over the past 15 years, the Colorado River Basin has experienced declining annual
precipitation rates and higher temperatures throughout the year, which has cascade into higher
evaporative loads from the soil and reservoirs, longer growing seasons that require more water,
earlier melting times, all of which have reduced runoff and water supply [10]. In addition to the
environmental factors, the differing conservation policies, water costs, and infrastructure planning
across the basin state has contributed to water consumption that is above the basin s renewable
supply [14]. States like Nevada enforce strict that limit residents use via strict conservation policies,
while states like California and Colorado use their senior water rights to maximum legal
consumption and are planning to construct larger dams to

Portrait of Blood The Tragedy of Julius Caesar by William...
What does one think when the word blood is said? Death? Betrayal? Sadness? Blood is a prime
example of imagery. Imagery paints a picture within the readers minds and puts them in the same
situation that the sentence is portraying. Having imagery in a work, makes a reader more into the
piece and involved. In The Tragedy of Julius Caesarby William Shakespeare, blood is a device
most often symbolizing betrayal by the conspirators, the death of Julius Caesar, and foreshadowing
the upcoming events through Mark Antonys eyes.
Julius Caesar s death came about by the betrayal of the conspirators. Brutus was one of Caesar s
closest friends, but his dagger was the last to break through Caesar s cloak. The commoners and
Antony were shocked to see the whole scene as the conspirators stream forth thy blood from
Caesar. (III, i, 201) This image allows the reader to really visualize how Caesar actually died in
the hands of the other conspirators. Mark Antony felt betrayed by not just Brutus, but all of the
conspirators. He was devastated, but managed to stay dignified by shaking the bloody fingers of
thy foes . (III, i, 198) The image of blood on each of the hands of the conspirators resulted in
Caesar dying by betrayal. Blood and betrayal make the reader think that it would lead Mark
Antony s actions to reflect those of the conspirators, but he perseveres and just asks for one chance
to speak at Julius funeral. Betrayal by one person can lead to the leadership of another.

Themes In David K. Shipler s The Working Poor
In the novel The Working Poor by David K. Shipler, he wrote about the struggles that people
have faced because of their specific position. He interviewed people that were in different
situations and with different jobs. There were several women he wrote about that had children and
struggled with abusive relationships. There were immigrants that he interviewed that worked in
the garment industry. Shipler wrote about people that worked in farms as well. He also wrote
about people with criminal records that lacked confidence in themselves to get a job. In the novel

Fundamental Principles Of The Metaphysics Of Morals By Kant
In, Fundamental Principles of the Metaphysics of Morals, Kant states his belief that philosophy is
divided into three parts. The three parts of philosophy include, physics, ethics, and logic. Kant
states that all rational knowledge is either material or formal. Formal/natural philosophy is known
as logic, while material/moral philosophyhas to do with reasons. Moral principles, are centered on
theories of reason, rather than character and value. If your actions are taken for morals alone, rather
than any other reason, they are considered morals. Also, an action is judged on the reason it was
taken, rather than the result of that action. Furthermore, if you respect and act in accordance with
moral law, then your actions are moral.

My House, And Household Apples
After analyzing the five sections beginning with My House and Household Apples we can infer
that the entire story is about people longing for love and looking for a life that s always
blossoming and full of hope, only to find this dream dashed. In fact, we can infer this from the
recurring themes and images that are portrayed throughout these sections. Like, the images of
the trees and how the narrator describes them as not only beautiful but also as if they present a
sense of endless opportunities. This idea is dashed though in the Household Apple s section
when the man failed to spray the trees to prevent bugs from swarming them and the fruit they
were grew. They [flies] were everywhere the fruit was: in the tree still apples like a hive for
them or where the fruit littered the ground, squashing itself as you stepped...there was no help for
it. The flies droned, feasting on the sweet juice. No one could go near the trees; I could not climb;
(Gass 17). The man can no longer climb the tree like he once did in which he saw the country sail
away from him, and figuratively speaking the span of opportunities presented to him. Thus, the flies
consuming the trees and preventing anyone from going near them is used to illustrate the end of
these endless opportunities, of hope. Additionally, themes involving love and loneliness stand out.
We particularly see this when it says, No one notices, when they walk by, that I am brimming in the
doorways...To anybody else it s

However, the rise of the internet allowed for a new way for child pornography to flourish, with
simple websites being distributed to those who could see it from the safety of their own homes.
However, as the law matured and came to battle this, new ways to distribute the pornography
were also invented, a tit for tat war that always had each side claiming victories and losses.
Though, now it seems that newest feature on the internet to allow for child pornography to be
distributed easily is the Deep Web. This is a part of the World Wide Webthat is not discoverable by
means of standard search engines, including password protected or dynamic pages and encrypted
networks. It was created by the US government and has legitimate and useful purposes, including
journalistic freedom in repressed nations, activists on freedom of speech and the leaking of
secrets that are having an adverse effect on others. However, the anonymity presented by the Deep
Web and it s search engine, TOR (The Onion Router), has allowed for criminal means to occur
with perhaps millions of users across the world being undetected. Naturally, the argument for this
paper is not if we should be allowing this, but how strong we should be going against this. As such,
the evidence will be given that total war should be taken against these networks, to flush out the
pedophiles on these sites, take them down permanently and arrest the individuals who both create
this smut and view it. As shown by Elise

Humans Were Affected By Island Dwarfism ( Morwood )
Many people, before the discovery of Homo floresiensis, assumed Homo sapiens were the only
living species of the genus homo since Homo erectus. The 2003 discovery of the hobbit in a
limestone cave in Flores, Indonesia changed the way people today view much of the timeline of
early human evolution. The island of Flores was assumed to have never been connected to any
mainland, bringing to question how this species arrived on the island in the first place as well
as what the island looked like at the time. There were several physical characteristics such as leg
length and brain size that made the discovery of Homo floresiensis so special. The bones found
were dated to 18,000 years ago, astoundingly recently (Brown). To this day, it is unclear how this
species evolved to be so small. Scientists had developed several different theories but have
frequently come to the conclusion that these humans were affected by island dwarfism
(Morwood). The environment in which Homo floresiensis lived, their physical structure and the
recency of their existence holds many mysteries around why they were so small and what
impact the above factors had on the hobbit s overall size. The discovery of Homo floresiensis
occurred of the coast of Indonesia on one of the Wallecean Islands called Flores. The dig site
which Homo floresiensis was discovered is called Liang Bua or cool cave . Father Theodore

Worldview Is What You Think About The World
What is Worldview?
Worldview is what you see and think about the world. So it would depend on the person on what
they think about the world since everyone is different. It is what you believe of what you have
heard and would take it to heart of what you believe. For example in the book called Finding
Your Worldview: Thinking Christianly about the World, it gives an example of different color
lens. When you give others a different color lens each of them is going to be seeing it differently
and that is how Worldview works and it would impact your life when you would respond to
issues in the world. A worldview would feed off a person that would base every action, opinion
and a response that they would see in the world. So since the world is built around their life, they
would share what they have seen and experienced. People always wonder how life began or
mankind comes into existence and it is hard for someone to explain what you believe by just
saying what you think is right. It tells and shows God creating the heavens and the earth in the
beginning. (Genesis 1:1). In the bible, God created the world in six days and rested on the seventh
day. (Genesis 2:1 3) Christians believe that God created us in His own image. (Genesis 1:27) God
made us to be like Him; of course we are not nearly perfect as God. But we would have the ability
to understand and learn and to obey what God has sent us down here for. So it is believed in
Christian worldview of how life began, that God

The South As Defined By The Crops Grown Within The...
The South as Defined by the Crops Grown Within the Plantation System
John Shelton Reed asked, The South: Where is it? What is it? (Reed 1994, 5). This paper will
define the American South by the crops grown within the plantation system from the American
Colonial period through the end of the antebellum period. The South has been an economically
distinctive region reflected by the historic dominance of the plantation system.
For this paper, the crops grown within the plantation system include tobacco, indigo, rice,
sugarcane, and cotton. Tobacco, indigo, rice, sugarcane, and cotton were valuable plants and
grown as cash crops. Cash crops, as opposed to subsistence crops, are specialized crops that are
grown to be sold for profits and not used for personal use on the plantations. Plantation owners
had no trouble transporting their crops because of the many waterways in the Southern colonies
that made it made it easy for ocean going ships to tie up at plantation docks. A plantation is
defined as a large piece of land (or water) usually in a tropical or semitropical area where one crop
is intentionally planted for widespread commercial sale and usually tended by resident laborers.
Let us begin by discussing the weather, wrote U. B. Phillips in 1929. (Reed 1994, 7). The weather,
that distinguished Southern historian asserted, Has been the chief agency in making the South
distinctive. It fostered the cultivation of the staple crops, which promoted the plantation system,

A Comparison of Guido and Dora Orefice in the Film Life Is...
The characters of Guido and Dora Orefice, from the Italian film Life is Beautiful have many
differences in their personalities and backgrounds but are very similar in some important ways.
They are both strong willed, independent, and have strong family values. Guido is a Jewish man,
who is presumably poor because the beginning of the film deals with him attempting to find a
job. He eventually finds one as a waiter, which suits his personality because he is the type of
person that always wants to please others and make them happy. Despite the prejudice he
receives for being Jewish he is a very happy and good humored person. Dora on the other hand,
grew up in very different circumstances. She is not Jewish, probably Christian, and is from a
fairly wealthy family. She is already engaged to another man, the man who refused Guido a job
after he accidentally dropped eggs on his head. She is a somewhat reserved teacher and seems to
be a very responsible, well behaved, and compliant woman, until she meets Guido that is. Guido
falls in love with her immediately when he meets her. Dora doesn t appear to fall in love as
instantaneously as Guido does but she eventually fall for him and she asks him to take her away.
They leave her engagement party together on horseback in front of her whole family. As a result
of her leaving the other man for an undesirable , Dora is ostracized by her entire family. In their
minds she has shamed them for marrying a Jewish man. However, she goes on to

Unlike MGM or Warner Bros., short subjects had always been a fundamental part of Universal s
production strategy. In an effort to remove itself from its near bottom industry ranking, the
company flirted occasionally with the prestige feature market during the 1930s, usually to its
п¬Ѓnancial detriment. During this decade it did its best п¬Ѓnancially when it concentrated on its
primary business: turning out low budget features at high speed. Universal s short subject releases
maintained this philosophy throughout the 1930s with amazing consistency, considering the
turnover in management (including the ouster of Laemmle and his son, Carl, Jr, in 1936). Early
in the 1930s, the studio s emphasis was shifted to two reel comedies, starting with the likes of
Slim Summerville, Arthur Lake and Benny Rubin as starring comedians. The Universal two
reelers took a decidedly interesting swing when former Hal Roach studio manager Warren Doane
was hired in 1932 to organize a production unit. Doane, in turn, brought in Roach employees James

I Always Loved Reading Since Early Childhood
I always loved reading since early childhood. My favorite hours were reading and exploring
foreign literacies. Furthermore, I was always passionate about literacy learning, my thoughts were
always filled with surprises and questioners about everything and anything that can stir my mind.
Knowing my self, ideas, beliefs and histories influenced my learning and literacy growing through
my life. As a child, who grew up in foreign lands and from mixed heritage, I was independent and
with challenging personality. It is important to mention that living in the Kibbutz shaped my
personality. Essentially, growing in a group who liv, learn and work together in a non competitive
was that promoted sense of social justice, equality and shared responsibilities. It was a whole new
society that survives despite the hard living situation and lead to social development that enhanced
my character culturally, politically and socially.
My Kibbutz growing environment was based on agriculture and learning how to read and write.
I remember after learning literacy, I had to do routine jobs such as dining room duties shared
with other people who also were available for other jobs. It is important to stress that I was also a
clean watch volunteer and a reading tutor since I was 12 years old. In the summers, I used to
clean beaches and work small jobs in restaurants and cafes, while I used to study the rest of the
year. The method of education was collective as it was the base of living in a

Google Driverless Car
Google Driverless Car stopped by Police in California for Going too Slow
Police give out traffic tickets on a daily basis, however, on Thursday, California police in Mountain
View made a traffic stop involving a Google driverless car for going too slow, and causing a traffic
jam.
The Google driverless car is a test vehicle in deployed in several locations and has logged more than
a million miles on the road. The car was stopped because it was going 24 miles per hour in a 35
mile per hour area.

Google cars must follow the road rules
Google s autonomous cars are programmed to obey the rules of the road, but the company says
that one of the challenges of automated vehicles is finding a way to blend the Google driverless
car in with other vehicles on the road. This is especially true since many live drivers don t always
follow or obey traffic rules.
The Google automatic cars have been involved in 16 auto accidents since they started being
tested in 2009. These were all said to be caused by some sort of human error, and were not the fault
of the driverless car s programming. Google officials say that their Google driverless car is kept at
25 miles per hour or less due to safety reasons, and that they want people to feel like they can

How To Write A Speech About Sex Trafficking
Sex Trafficking: A Forced Slave Trade
I want to talk about a girl named Danielle. She likes swimming, SpongeBob, Mexican food,
writing poetry, getting her nails painted, and Harry Potter books. Sometimes she s moody; but
mostly she is open and eager to be loved. When she smiles, huge dimples crease her chubby face
and they are capable of melting hearts. She s much like any other 11 year old girl in America,
except for one critical difference. Over the past year of her life, she has been trafficked up and
down the East Coast by a 29 year old pimp; and sold nightly on Craigslist to adult men who ignore
her dimples and baby fat and purchase her for sex. Sadly, Danielle is one of many faceless victims
who are all over the world (Lloyd 1). In order to end this modern day slave trade known as sex
trafficking we must educate ourselves on the topic and actively get involved in the efforts to end
trafficking.
Human trafficking is the forcing of people into being transported within or to another country for
purposes of exploitation. Seventy Nine percent of people trafficked are used in the sex trade.
Unfortunately, trafficking isn t just an international issue. According to The U.S. Department of
Health and Human Services every minute someone will be forced into this modern day form of
slavery (Coorlim and Ford). Many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Brucella Abortus Research Paper
Brucella abortus is zoonotic, which can cause brucellosis in both cattle and human. The
geographical distribution of both human and bovine brucellosis is wide and is constantly changing;
this not only results in great economic loss in animal production, but also compromises human
health. Although bovine brucellosis can be prevented by vaccine and elimination of the infected
cattle, there is no licensed vaccine for human at the moment. B. abortus can be transmitted
vertically and horizontally. Transplacental transmission is an obvious route causing abortion, the
classic symptom of brucellosis. Oral transmission is the most significant route of transmission. B.
abortus can reside in mammary and uterine glands. The bacteria can be introduced to the calves
during suckling from the infected cow. Alternatively, B. abortus can be transferred within the herd
by grazing in pasture or drinking water that has been contaminated by vaginal discharge from the
infected cow. Despite the fact that B. abortus can be found in semen and other excretions, the
venereal route is uncommon. Abortion, a common clinical sign, usually takes place within the
second half of gestation alongside with the retention of placenta and metritis. These bacteria
multiply in the placental cotyledons causing endometriosis... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Informative Speech On Pilates
It s no secret to those who know me that I love Pilates. In fact, I ve written about it a few times in
the past (and probably will again). In today s post, I share with you some of my journey toward
healing, and ways in which Pilates is a useful, therapeutic tool to help you on your road to recovery.
The word challenging does not even begin to describe the starting point of my health struggles.
For years, I battled an ever growing list of strange symptoms until a doctor diagnosed me with
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome in 2010. Despite doing everything right all that my doctor told me to
do my body became frailer by the day, and weight inexplicably dropped from my 5 foot 6 inch
frame.
Soon after my diagnosis, a series of life altering events occurred; I lost my job, my car, most of my

Here are five ways Pilates can help you heal from Lyme Disease.
1. Pilates helps reconnect your mind and your body.
You might feel as though your body has betrayed you, and like you have no control over what s
happening to you. Pilates gently helps you find a mind body connection where you are in charge of
the muscles you utilize through a concept known as concentration.
When you focus or concentrate, your attention on the muscles working during an exercise, you
become aware of just how much each muscle is working. By using your mind to direct, your body s
actions, you are in charge; you make the movement happen.
A consistent Pilates practice enhances your understanding of this mind body connection and allows
you to see that although many things may not be in your control, you still have the power to make
specific changes to movements that feel right to you. Knowing that your mind and body can work
together to help you heal is a very encouraging thought.
2. Pilates helps balance the

Systems Administration and Network Administration
Systems Administration and Network Administration Systems administration and network
administration are, in many respects, very similar jobs. Both positions are highly involved in
maintaining the computer systems in an organization, and, in some smaller firms, the position may
be handled by the same individual. However, while there are significant similarities between
systems administration and network administration, there are differences in the roles as well.
Basically speaking, system administration focuses on computer systems and networks, while
network administration looks at maintenance and upkeep of the hardware and software that
composes the network (Entrance Exams 2012, 2012). Because there is obviously an overlap
between the two different job descriptions, it can be difficult to understand why it is so important
for information technology professionals to differentiate between network and systems
administration. However, when one understands the different roles of the two different positions, it
becomes clear that, why they might overlap, and why a single individual might be able to handle
the position in a small organization, there are actually substantial differences between the two
positions. Particularly in a large organization, the two jobs may need to be handled by different
professionals with different skill sets. It is because of these different skill sets that the industry has
been so adamant about differentiating between systems and network

Crimes against Business
In crimes that are related to business, it s not always the employees of those businesses that that
stray away from their morals, and greed overcomes their judgment. On May 19th 2014, a
Brooklyn, N.Y., man was sentenced to state prison for orchestrating a bank fraud system with at
least two defendants. The defendants in this case were found to be impersonating people to whom
are holders of legitimate business bank accounts. In their scheme, they were able to steal more
than half a million dollars. The New York authorities sentenced Nurlin Wright, the 35 year old
Brooklyn, NY and two other defendants to racketeering and conspiracy. Racketeering as a federal
crimemay come with some very hefty penalties, and especially used in major organized crimes
cases. Racketeering is the federal crime of conspiring to organize to commit crimes, especially on
an ongoing basis as part of an organized crime operation. The Acting Attorney, General Hoffman
said in this article, This was a huge bank fraudscheme in which the defendants attempted to use the

the need for financial institutions, banking clients and law enforcement to remain extremely

illegal activities. According to INTERPOL, money laundering is defined as any act or attempted

Roll Of Thunder Hear My Cry Dishonest Quotes
Got me better friends than ya ll! They give me things, and treat me like a man and.... and they

T.J is foolish, sneaky, and dishonest. In the end, this leads to his near death experience. In this
book, T.J is seen as dishonest for many reasons. He cheats on homework and tests, blames things
on his brother, and steals from the Barnett store. He was held back into the seventh grade again,
and now he has Stacey Logan s mom for a teacher. With Stacey being his best friend, T.J tries to

tricks somebody, and it works. T.J also talked Stacey out of his new coat. Stacey got a new coat
from Uncle Hammer. It was a little big, but it was way nicer than the one that he had before. T.J
really wanted the coat, so he tricked Stacey into giving it to him. He did this by saying that other
kids were making fun of him, saying that he looked like a preacher. Stacey felt embarrassed, and
gave the coat to T.J when he told him that he would give it back, after he grew into it. This shows
that Stacey was foolish to listen to T.J, but it also shows how sneaky T.J can really be. T.J is
sneaky in many ways in this book. Another example was when he was talking about how he gets
out of his cores and other work that needs to be done at his house. He told Stacey that whenever
there is work that has to be done, and someone has to go somewhere to get it done, he volunteers
himself to do it. Then when he goes, he spends the whole day being gone, so that when he gets
back, all the rest of the work is done. See, fellows, there s a system to getting out of work. Jus
don t be round when it s got to be done. Only thing is, you can t let your folks know that s what

Mythology In Popular Culture
Mythology in popular culture
How is mythology important to our world and society today? What do we know and define as
myths? Is the fiction being written today considered Mythology or will they eventually be known
as mythology to the people of the future? Let s first start off by putting Mythology and Fiction into
perspective. When we think of Myths, what first comes to mind, what immediately comes into
focus is of old grandmother stories that are not true but used to explain natural phenomenons and
occurrences. These tales may not necessarily be true but they are not entirely unfounded either.
Fiction to us, is plainly simply false or fantasies, fiction means stories told to entertain and keep
people busy. Delving further into their definitions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are so many parallels one can draw from Jediism and the many established religions of
today that we can t really just discount Jediism entirely for how it started out being created
entirely as a joke, or maybe just extreme fandom. The Force(Appendix A, Fig 4) may be equated
to other religions and cultures beliefs such as the Indian prana, the Chinese qi, the Daoist dao, and
the Christian Holy Spirit, all of them being an invisible energy that resides within the human body.
But Jediism actually has roots that are not entirely fictional. Jediism is after all based on George
Lucas study and inspiration of and by the book The Hero with a Thousand Faces by Joseph
Campbell. Joseph Campbells discusses mythos in his book, traditional or recurrent narrative theme
or plot structure. This structure has been widely studied and Joseph Campbell s version of this
theory is named the monomyth . It separates into 3 broad spectrums of actions further defined by
17 functions. This recurrent theory is supported by the fact that many religions and mythology
carry through with it their images and relics dictate characters of certain archetypes and roles, no
matter where the myth may have originated from. One such parallel that may be drawn is between

Ethical Issues:
While Walgreens is exposed to all the general ethical conundrums of the business world, the highly
regulated Pharmacies and Drug Stores industry does not give much room for them to act unethically.
Recent Events:
Placed within an industry being pressured by reimbursement rates, plagued by market saturation,
and in constant fear of government legislation, Walgreens is trying to pursue new avenues to
promote company growth. In order to promote market share growth in New York, Walgreens
acquired the drugstore chain Duane Reade in 2010 (WAG to Acquire NY Institution Duane Reade,

of drugstore.com (Walgreens Co.). While Walgreens also focuses on traditional organic store
growth, these actions exemplify their large focus on promoting company growth through new
avenues.
Along with the positive growth related developments, Walgreens is being faced with large industry
pressures. Walgreens is currently in a public dispute with the PBM company Express Scripts. In a

Comparing The Lowest Animal And A Time Of Gifts
The Lowest Animal, was written by Mark Twain and it portrays the bad side of man. Twain goes
over the negative characteristics of man in comparison with animals. On the other hand, A Time
of Gifts, by Stephen Gould portrays the good side of man. Gould focuses on the good
characteristics of man and how these good characteristics shine through in times of trial. Both the
good and bad sides of man have importance and each side can be easily argued for. Whether good
outweighs the bad or bad outweighs the good is a controversial debate. In The Lowest Animal,
Mark Twain s story declares that man is not the Top animal, but is in fact the animal of lowest

Gould declares that the goodness in the word overrides all of the bad. In times of crisis, man
will stand together and the good will shine through. Every spectacular incident of evil will be

to each individual perception by every person.
Man is good, but man is also bad. Good doesn t override the bad and bad doesn t override the
good. You can not have light without darkness or darkness without light. It is the same with the
good and bad sides of man. One can not exist without the other. The goodness of man should

and evil are at a balance but whether the true nature of man is ultimately good or ultimately bad

The Purpose Of Collecting Fingerprints
The purpose of collecting fingerprints is to identify an individual. This person may be the suspect,
a victim, or a witness. There are three types of fingerprints that can be found: latent, patent, and
plastic. (Crime Museum, 2016) Latent fingerprints are made of the sweat and oil on the skin s
surface. This type of fingerprintis invisible to the naked eye and requires additional processing in
order to be seen. This processing can include basic powder techniques or the use of chemicals.
Patent fingerprints can be made by blood, grease, ink, or dirt. This type of fingerprint is easily

Non porous rough surfaces include vinyl, leather, and other textured surfaces. For porous surfaces,
scientists sprinkle chemicals such as ninhydrin over the prints and then take photographs of the
developing fingerprints. For non porous smooth surfaces, experts use powder and brush
techniques, followed by lifting tape. For rough surfaces, the same powdering process is used, but
instead of using regular lifting tape for these prints, scientists use something that will get into the
grooves of the surface such as a gel lifter or Microcell (a silicone casting material). Once a print is
collected, analysis can begin. During analysis, examiners determine whether there is enough
information present in the print to be used for identification. This includes determining class and
individual characteristics for the unknown print. Class characteristics are the characteristics (crime
Museum, 2016) that narrow the print down to a group but not an individual. The three fingerprint
class types are arches, loops, and whorls. Arches are the least common type of fingerprint,
occurring only about 5% of the time. Ridges that enter on one side of the print go up, and exit on
the opposite side characterize this pattern. Loops are the most common, occurring 60 65% of the
time. Ridges that enter on one side of the print loop around, and then exit on the same side
characterize this pattern. Whorls present a circular type of ridge flow

Respiratory Acidosis Case Study
Respiratory acidosis is a condition closely related to patients with Chronic Obstructive
Pulmonary Disease (COPD). According to Ranson Pierre, respiratory acidosis is characterized
by lab values including an increased amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the blood and a lower,
more acidic pH level (2016). More specifically, a CO2 value greater than 26 mEq/L and a pH
level below 7.35 (Ranson Pierre, 2016). These lab values signify the lungs inability to effectively
eliminate the CO2 produced by the body. In turn, this produces more carbonic acid H2CO3, which
then increases the acidity of the blood(Wasserman, 2017). The patient that prompted me to research
respiratory acidosis was admitted due to an exacerbation of COPD and asthma. This patient s lab
results showed an elevated CO2 level of 31 mEq/L. The form of COPD that the patient had was
chronic bronchitis. The pathophysiology behind chronic bronchitis is inflammation and
constriction of the bronchial tubes making a perfect environment for mucus to accumulate and
inhibit breathing (Pietrangelo, 2016). Because inspired oxygencannot flow as freely to the alveoli,
the diffusion of carbon dioxide from the bloodstream into the lungs is impaired. Since CO2 is

the nurse. Having the patient demonstrate proper spirometer use is a great nursing outcome that
may influence a patient to continue using it after discharge. If these actions are successful, the lab

Explain How the Social and Economic Changes Affected Gaucho Life
Due to the huge migration to Latin America, foreigners introduced the gauchos to many changes
that would have a lasting effect. Two of the main changes felt by the gauchos included social and
economic restructuring. One must understand that history about the gauchos can potentially be
biased. This is due to the fact that only news that is interesting is reported and only bad news is
interesting. This clash of recorded history and actual history causes us to question what actually
occurred during this time period. The gauchos lifestyle suffered greatly because of these social and
economic changes. New institutions, values and beliefs all aided the transformation ... Show more

Gauchos social lives covered many interesting areas. These traditional acts decreased because of the
new laws. Previously, gauchos would roam the pampa, continuously moving onward to unknown
destinations. This freedom became restricted with the invention of the fence. The fence also
impacted other areas of the gauchos lives including economically. The fence forced the change
from a ranching to farming. The need for ranchers decreased, which put gauchos out of work.
These fences also kept animals contained to specific pastures. Before this gauchos would kill
roaming horses for fun, cattle for food and skins, and ostrich for feathers. These fences set
territories that kept the gaucho from wandering freely. Another change that kept the gaucho from
wandering freely involved vagrancy laws. The government targeted to the gaucho and aimed to get
rid of them, or at least tame them. Gauchos now had to carry something similar to a travel permit.
This again restricted their unique lifestyle. Because the government viewed the gauchos as good
fighters, they enlisted many to serve in the military. This impacted their lives socially and
economically. Gauchos social lives slowed down enormously because of the military. They had to
work continuously. Economically they benefited because they no longer had to look for ways to
support their basic needs. The government took care of making them sustain life.

Potential Lead Contamination From Drinking Water
Introduction
Course Overview
Potential lead contamination from drinking water presents a significant health risk. Recent
examples of this lead contamination include Flint, Michigan, a city that experienced a large
increase in the number of people, especially children, who exhibited symptoms of lead poisoning. A
March 9, 2016 article in the Washington Post reported data from the Environmental Protection
Agency that indicated approximately 350 schools and day care centers across the US failed lead
tests approximately 470 times between 2012 and 2015. Seven years ago, according to the Post, a
study concluded that hundreds of young children in Washington, DC, had potentially damaging
amounts of lead in their blood due to contamination in the city s tap water. The toxin can cause
permanent developmental and behavioral issues.
A February 8, 2016, NY Times article reported that five months after Sebring, Ohio officials found
unsafe lead levels, the City issued a warning for pregnant women and children and shut down taps
and fountains in schools.
In 2001, after Washington, D.C., changed how it disinfected drinking water, lead in tap water at
thousands of homes spiked as much as 20 times the federally approved level. Residents did not
find out for three years. When they did, officials ripped out lead water pipes feeding 17,600 homes
and discovered three years later that many of the repairs had only prolonged the contamination.
The crisis in Flint, where as many as 8,000

Literary Devices In A Tree Grows In Brooklyn
A Tree Grows In Brooklyn is a coming of age novel about Francie Nolan, a poverty stricken yet
ambitious second generation Irish immigrant. Chapter 34 of the book illustrates some of the
hardship that women like Francie faced. The author used diction, imagery, details, language, and
syntax to control how readers depict the difficulties of various characters. In this chapter, Sissy,
Francie s aunt, pretends to carry a child after ten miscarriages. Sissy uses a baby from a disowned
16 year old girl from Maspeth and slowly reunites her with her family. When an author uses diction,
it helps them get the theme and purpose of the selection across to the reader. Though the underlying
context of the chapter is quite serious, the connotation that is... Show more content on

(265) The reader isn t sure of what causes Sissy to become desperate. Is it from anger?
Disappointment? Sadness? The only person s feelings we know about is from her husband.
The details that were included move the plot along to a great extent. When Sissy says she wants
to get another child rather than have one, it shows that Sissy is done with her attempts of being
a biological mother. Her husband, John sees it as supporting another man s bastard. (265) John
ultimately does fall for Sissy s scheme, along with the whole town. The language used in A Tree
In Brooklyn is informal, due to the dialect used by the characters. Going back to John s views on
adopting a child, he ends his sentence with see and calls people bums. (265) Even the narrator at
times had an informal hint to it, such as When Francie heard Aunt Sissy tell Mama that she was
going to get a baby. It seems that in the early 1920s, immigrants weren t granted the best education
and this is shown through their words and lack of correct

Gender Symbolism In The Fences
Fences Essay In the Fences, by August Wilson shows that life of African Americans in the U.S.
in the 1950s with the story of Troy and his family. Wilson uses the symbol of the fence to show the
desires of each character like Rose s desire is to keep her family together, Troy s desire is to keep
death out and to be not bound forever, and Bono s desire is to follow Troy, his best friend, as an
example of the right way to live and to be with Rose and Troy who are basically his family. Rose
and the other seen characters represent people and show gender roles of the time, like Rose is a
housewife, Troy is the provider. Also Cory is the new generation of emotion over responsibility,
Gabriel represents the war heros that were permanently... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bono: Some people build fences to keep people out... and other people build fences to keep people
in. Rose wants to hold on to you all. She loves you. (1 2.i.)
Here August Wilsonin the first part shows a little of the gender roles of the 1950s where men are
the boss of the house and women are subservient to them. It also shows that Rose did not go in as
told but remained there with them and Troy accepted that he could not tell her what to do. The
image or action of Rose not leaving shows the changing of the times in other words the 1950s on
the fence to between the old ways and the new ones. In the first part of what Bono says describes
Troy with death and the other part describes Rose with her love for her family and desire to keep
everyone close and happy. The character Gabriel (Uncle Gabe) is a mix of many different things
and people that of the time and believes he signals the opening of heaven s gate as his
interpretation of the fence. Gabriel is Troy s half brother who went and fought in the war. He was
medically discharged after receiving a head injury that permanently reduced his mental functions.
Troy helped Gabriel get a settlement and helps spend/manage the money. Troy used the money to
buy himself a house that Gabriel originally lived in as well until Gabriel moved out at his own
wish. Wilson wrote: Gabriel: Oh, yeah... I know it. The devil s strong. The devil ain t no pushover.

The Change Clause In Government Contract Law
Contract clauses can cover many facets of commercial and business interests; whether it be
government or civilian and can take on various forms. Contract clauses are enforceable under
federal and state laws as well as any other part of a contract. Out of all the general clauses confined
in Government contracts, the Change Clause would seem to be the most important. It stands in the
focus of the contractual arrangement with other clauses denoting to and borrowing its basic
practice as some usual way of doing things. By advantage of this clause, the Government is
permitted unilaterally to alter the contract and hold the contractor to perform under the unilaterally
changed contract. It is this important departure from the old concept of mutuality, with its pointed
inferences on the non governmental party, that sets the Government contract different from the
standard commercial contract. Incidentally, this rare arrangement is altogether to the disadvantage
of the contractor. The Changes clause affords for an equitable compensation, if it is fitting.
Additionally, the Changes clause, in linking with the Disputes clause, offers an opening of reprieve
if a dispute arises as to what is reasonable compensation.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Issue Of Healthcare Reform
Healthcare reform continues to be a topic of discussion among politicians, medical professionals,
and many Americans who are struggling to pay for care in a system where costs are skyrocketing
out of control. Consequently these costs are forcing many Americans to file bankruptcy due to the
massive amount of medical debt that they owe, slowing our economy and reducing
reimbursements for medical facilities (Khazan) The debate on how to fix health care continues,
even after the Affordable Care Act was passed in 2010 to help begin our national journey to fix
health care in America. Currently there is a divide between the two Democratic presidential
nominees in regards to how we should fix our current system. Bernie Sanders is... Show more

Many believe that healthcare in Canada is free when in fact if you look at it from a policy
framework view it is not. The healthcare system in Canada is financed by government enforced
tax rates that vary in costs depending on family size. income, and province location (Canadian
Health Care). While the federal government creates standards for health care, provincial
governments make decisions in regards to where hospitals should be located, how many
physicians each location should have, and the services that they will provide (Canadian Health
Care). Ultimately, if the United States moves to a single payer system, taxes will increase to
pay for the program. The question that often is asked when discussing a single payer system is
how much will my taxes increase and it this cost more than I am currently paying. This is most
often where the debate begins. In 2013 the average tax dedicated to the healthcare program for a
family of 4 in Canada was $11,320 (Esmail). For a family of three with two parents, the cost was
approximately $10,989 (Esmail). This tax pays for all medical care and does not require
additional payments for co pays, deductibles, or out of pocket expenses (Canadian Health Care).
For a family of 4 in America the cost of health care averages $22,030 with an employer paying
$12,886 of that total cost and the remaining $9,144 being paid for by the employee (Esmail). This
cost includes payroll

The Great Gatsby Cultural Influences
Throughout the past, writing has left an influential mark on literature and culture due to widespread
change happening in America during those times. The early twentieth century serves as an
excellent illustration of the theory that writers reflect the major cultural influences of their time
(Cultural Influences on American Literature in the Late Nineteenth Century). F. Scott Fitzgeraldwas
an outstanding author who greatly influenced Americans of his time through his phenomenal works
of literature. One of his most influential novels, The Great Gatsby, defines this modernistic lifestyle
of this era through his reflection of the thriving middle and upper classes. This movement focused

Scott Fitzgerald s novel, The Great Gatsby, strongly reflected the attitudes of people during the
twentieth century by their disillusioned idea of the American Dream. In this novel, Fitzgerald
creates situations and characteristics similar to his life while presenting the skewed moralities of
society in the twentieth century. For example, Fitzgerald displays the desire for money during this
era through the character Jay Gatsby who throughout the novel obtains money through dishonesty
of his occupation. This change in America was the turning point for how the would continue to be
influenced by the desire for wealth and materialism. F. Scott Fitzgerald reflects this idea of the
modernistic lifestyle and has educated society on his view of this change of morals in the twentieth

Observation/Data Collection Method
Observational Method
The targeted behavior was observed at the school Daniel attends every day of the week. The
observation session took place on 9/4/17 from 10:00 11:00 a.m. Daniel was in his general
education classroom, which is a second grade classroom with 14 other students. The room
contains 5 student tables, 15 chairs, teacher desk, kidney table, rocking chair, promethean board,
and an array of books and teaching materials, along with student supplies. Daniels classroom has
little storage but seems to be organized; the students know where to get items and where to turn
in items. During this time of day, the class engages in snack time; this is scheduled on Daniels
IEP because of his diabetes so the whole class partakes in a snack during this time. Students are
sitting at their groups, eating their snacks and working on center work. The observer was seated
on the north side of the room; along this side is a wall of windows with a counter and cabinets.
The observer had a clear view and auditory accessibility of the interactions between Daniel and his
teacher, Daniel and his para, and Daniel and his peers. The observer only took data on the target
behavior (social communication responding to peers by saying hi when prompted). During this
observation session, Daniel was working on his spelling words for the week at his group. His
peers at his group were also working on the same task. Daniel s para prompted him with questions

In short, the York Water Company is in a solid financial position. It has no basis to ask for yet
another rate increase of any amount and the Commission should respond to its request accordingly.
(d) According to a PUC spokesperson as reported in a recent York Sunday News editorial a utility
company spends about $1 million to request a rate hike. Given, the number of attorneys,
consultants, judges, commissioners, and other state employees involved, it seems likely that the
cost to the commonwealth to examine and rule on that rate hike request would equal, if not exceed
$1 million. A process which results in an expenditure of something on the order of $16 million in
the years since 1999 for a single utility company cries out for remediation. Would it not be far more
efficient, equitable, and cost effective to authorize a pro forma semiannual or annual utility rate
increase linked to some economic index with a provision for special exceptions under strictly
defined extenuating circumstances? The present procedure makes for absurd theater. It is
respectfully requested that the Commission move

  • 2. Similarities Between Confucianism And Buddhism There are a number of similarities between the eastern religions and philosophies of Confucianism, Buddhism and Hinduism. While Hinduism is centered around a supreme being, Buddhism and Confucianism are centered around the teachings of a man. Each encourages moral behavior, ethical values, such as non violence, charity, and a respect for the universe. To better understand the philosophical similarities and differences between Confucianism, Buddhismand Hinduism, it is important first to consider the teachings of Buddha, Patanjali and Confucius in their historical context. Buddhism is a tradition that evolved from the original teachings of Siddhartha Gautama, the Buddha or Enlightened One. Buddha was born a Hindu in about 563 B.C.E. He was of aristocratic birth and grew up in relative luxury and the security of the ruling class of that period. At age twenty nine, he tired of his comfortable existence and renounced the world and went in search of wisdom. Tradition states that he attained enlightenment on a full moon day in May under a fig tree. According to Buddha s teachings, the purpose of life is to end suffering and develop compassion for all living things without discrimination. He taught that meditation must be used to move beyond selfish concerns and desires. Only by quieting the mind can people connect with the power of the larger universe and reach a state of enlightenment and peace. Buddha s teaching, or dharma, begins with the Four Noble Truths. Imagery paints a picture within the readers minds and puts them in the same situation that the sentence is portraying. Having imagery in a work, makes a reader more into the piece and involved. In The Tragedy of Julius Caesarby William Shakespeare, blood is a device most often symbolizing betrayal by the conspirators, the death of Julius Caesar, and foreshadowing the upcoming events through Mark Antonys eyes. Julius Caesar s death came about by the betrayal of the conspirators. Brutus was one of Caesar s closest friends, but his dagger was the last to break through Caesar s cloak. The commoners and Antony were shocked to see the whole scene as the conspirators stream forth thy blood from Caesar. (III, i, 201) This image allows the reader to really visualize how Caesar actually died in the hands of the other conspirators. Mark Antony felt betrayed by not just Brutus, but all of the conspirators. He was devastated, but managed to stay dignified by shaking the bloody fingers of thy foes . (III, i, 198) The image of blood on each of the hands of the conspirators resulted in Caesar dying by betrayal. Blood and betrayal make the reader think that it would lead Mark Antony s actions to reflect those of the conspirators, but he perseveres and just asks for one chance to speak at Julius funeral. • 12. My House, And Household Apples After analyzing the five sections beginning with My House and Household Apples we can infer that the entire story is about people longing for love and looking for a life that s always blossoming and full of hope, only to find this dream dashed. In fact, we can infer this from the recurring themes and images that are portrayed throughout these sections. Like, the images of the trees and how the narrator describes them as not only beautiful but also as if they present a sense of endless opportunities. This idea is dashed though in the Household Apple s section when the man failed to spray the trees to prevent bugs from swarming them and the fruit they were grew. They [flies] were everywhere the fruit was: in the tree still apples like a hive for them or where the fruit littered the ground, squashing itself as you stepped...there was no help for it. The flies droned, feasting on the sweet juice. No one could go near the trees; I could not climb; (Gass 17). The man can no longer climb the tree like he once did in which he saw the country sail away from him, and figuratively speaking the span of opportunities presented to him. Thus, the flies consuming the trees and preventing anyone from going near them is used to illustrate the end of these endless opportunities, of hope. Additionally, themes involving love and loneliness stand out. We particularly see this when it says, No one notices, when they walk by, that I am brimming in the doorways...To anybody else it s ... Humans Were Affected By Island Dwarfism ( Morwood ) Many people, before the discovery of Homo floresiensis, assumed Homo sapiens were the only living species of the genus homo since Homo erectus. The 2003 discovery of the hobbit in a limestone cave in Flores, Indonesia changed the way people today view much of the timeline of early human evolution. The island of Flores was assumed to have never been connected to any mainland, bringing to question how this species arrived on the island in the first place as well as what the island looked like at the time. There were several physical characteristics such as leg length and brain size that made the discovery of Homo floresiensis so special. The bones found were dated to 18,000 years ago, astoundingly recently (Brown). To this day, it is unclear how this species evolved to be so small. (Reed 1994, 5). This paper will define the American South by the crops grown within the plantation system from the American Colonial period through the end of the antebellum period. The South has been an economically distinctive region reflected by the historic dominance of the plantation system. For this paper, the crops grown within the plantation system include tobacco, indigo, rice, sugarcane, and cotton. Tobacco, indigo, rice, sugarcane, and cotton were valuable plants and grown as cash crops. Cash crops, as opposed to subsistence crops, are specialized crops that are grown to be sold for profits and not used for personal use on the plantations. Plantation owners had no trouble transporting their crops because of the many waterways in the Southern colonies that made it made it easy for ocean going ships to tie up at plantation docks. A plantation is defined as a large piece of land (or water) usually in a tropical or semitropical area where one crop is intentionally planted for widespread commercial sale and usually tended by resident laborers. Let us begin by discussing the weather, wrote U. B. Phillips in 1929. (Reed 1994, 7). • 25. How To Write A Speech About Sex Trafficking Sex Trafficking: A Forced Slave Trade I want to talk about a girl named Danielle. She likes swimming, SpongeBob, Mexican food, writing poetry, getting her nails painted, and Harry Potter books. Sometimes she s moody; but mostly she is open and eager to be loved. When she smiles, huge dimples crease her chubby face and they are capable of melting hearts. She s much like any other 11 year old girl in America, except for one critical difference. Over the past year of her life, she has been trafficked up and down the East Coast by a 29 year old pimp; and sold nightly on Craigslist to adult men who ignore her dimples and baby fat and purchase her for sex. Sadly, Danielle is one of many faceless victims who are all over the world (Lloyd 1). In order to end this modern day slave trade known as sex trafficking we must educate ourselves on the topic and actively get involved in the efforts to end trafficking. Human trafficking is the forcing of people into being transported within or to another country for purposes of exploitation. Seventy Nine percent of people trafficked are used in the sex trade. The geographical distribution of both human and bovine brucellosis is wide and is constantly changing; this not only results in great economic loss in animal production, but also compromises human health. Although bovine brucellosis can be prevented by vaccine and elimination of the infected cattle, there is no licensed vaccine for human at the moment. B. abortus can be transmitted vertically and horizontally. Transplacental transmission is an obvious route causing abortion, the classic symptom of brucellosis. Oral transmission is the most significant route of transmission. B. abortus can reside in mammary and uterine glands. The bacteria can be introduced to the calves during suckling from the infected cow. Alternatively, B. abortus can be transferred within the herd by grazing in pasture or drinking water that has been contaminated by vaginal discharge from the infected cow. Despite the fact that B. abortus can be found in semen and other excretions, the venereal route is uncommon. The word challenging does not even begin to describe the starting point of my health struggles. Both positions are highly involved in maintaining the computer systems in an organization, and, in some smaller firms, the position may be handled by the same individual. However, while there are significant similarities between systems administration and network administration, there are differences in the roles as well. Basically speaking, system administration focuses on computer systems and networks, while network administration looks at maintenance and upkeep of the hardware and software that composes the network (Entrance Exams 2012, 2012). Because there is obviously an overlap between the two different job descriptions, it can be difficult to understand why it is so important for information technology professionals to differentiate between network and systems administration. However, when one understands the different roles of the two different positions, it becomes clear that, why they might overlap, and why a single individual might be able to handle the position in a small organization, there are actually substantial differences between the two positions. Particularly in a large organization, the two jobs may need to be handled by different professionals with different skill sets. According to Ranson Pierre, respiratory acidosis is characterized by lab values including an increased amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the blood and a lower, more acidic pH level (2016). More specifically, a CO2 value greater than 26 mEq/L and a pH level below 7.35 (Ranson Pierre, 2016). These lab values signify the lungs inability to effectively eliminate the CO2 produced by the body. In turn, this produces more carbonic acid H2CO3, which then increases the acidity of the blood(Wasserman, 2017). The patient that prompted me to research respiratory acidosis was admitted due to an exacerbation of COPD and asthma. This patient s lab results showed an elevated CO2 level of 31 mEq/L. A March 9, 2016 article in the Washington Post reported data from the Environmental Protection Agency that indicated approximately 350 schools and day care centers across the US failed lead tests approximately 470 times between 2012 and 2015. Seven years ago, according to the Post, a study concluded that hundreds of young children in Washington, DC, had potentially damaging amounts of lead in their blood due to contamination in the city s tap water. The toxin can cause permanent developmental and behavioral issues. A February 8, 2016, NY Times article reported that five months after Sebring, Ohio officials found unsafe lead levels, the City issued a warning for pregnant women and children and shut down taps and fountains in schools. • 44. Literary Devices In A Tree Grows In Brooklyn A Tree Grows In Brooklyn is a coming of age novel about Francie Nolan, a poverty stricken yet ambitious second generation Irish immigrant. Chapter 34 of the book illustrates some of the hardship that women like Francie faced. The author used diction, imagery, details, language, and syntax to control how readers depict the difficulties of various characters. In this chapter, Sissy, Francie s aunt, pretends to carry a child after ten miscarriages. Sissy uses a baby from a disowned 16 year old girl from Maspeth and slowly reunites her with her family. When an author uses diction, it helps them get the theme and purpose of the selection across to the reader. Though the underlying context of the chapter is quite serious, the connotation that is... The only person s feelings we know about is from her husband. The details that were included move the plot along to a great extent. When Sissy says she wants to get another child rather than have one, it shows that Sissy is done with her attempts of being a biological mother. Her husband, John sees it as supporting another man s bastard. (265) John ultimately does fall for Sissy s scheme, along with the whole town. The language used in A Tree In Brooklyn is informal, due to the dialect used by the characters. Going back to John s views on adopting a child, he ends his sentence with see and calls people bums. (265) Even the narrator at times had an informal hint to it, such as When Francie heard Aunt Sissy tell Mama that she was going to get a baby. It seems that in the early 1920s, immigrants weren t granted the best education and this is shown through their words and lack of correct ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Gender Symbolism In The Fences Fences Essay In the Fences, by August Wilson shows that life of African Americans in the U.S. in the 1950s with the story of Troy and his family. Wilson uses the symbol of the fence to show the desires of each character like Rose s desire is to keep her family together, Troy s desire is to keep death out and to be not bound forever, and Bono s desire is to follow Troy, his best friend, as an example of the right way to live and to be with Rose and Troy who are basically his family. Rose and the other seen characters represent people and show gender roles of the time, like Rose is a housewife, Troy is the provider. Also Cory is the new generation of emotion over responsibility, Gabriel represents the war heros that were permanently... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bono: Some people build fences to keep people out... and other people build fences to keep people in. Rose wants to hold on to you all. She loves you. (1 2.i.) Here August Wilsonin the first part shows a little of the gender roles of the 1950s where men are the boss of the house and women are subservient to them. It also shows that Rose did not go in as told but remained there with them and Troy accepted that he could not tell her what to do. The image or action of Rose not leaving shows the changing of the times in other words the 1950s on the fence to between the old ways and the new ones. In the first part of what Bono says describes Troy with death and the other part describes Rose with her love for her family and desire to keep everyone close and happy. The character Gabriel (Uncle Gabe) is a mix of many different things and people that of the time and believes he signals the opening of heaven s gate as his interpretation of the fence. Gabriel is Troy s half brother who went and fought in the war. He was medically discharged after receiving a head injury that permanently reduced his mental functions. Troy helped Gabriel get a settlement and helps spend/manage the money. Troy used the money to buy himself a house that Gabriel originally lived in as well until Gabriel moved out at his own wish. • 46. The Change Clause In Government Contract Law Contract clauses can cover many facets of commercial and business interests; whether it be government or civilian and can take on various forms. Contract clauses are enforceable under federal and state laws as well as any other part of a contract. Out of all the general clauses confined in Government contracts, the Change Clause would seem to be the most important. It stands in the focus of the contractual arrangement with other clauses denoting to and borrowing its basic practice as some usual way of doing things. By advantage of this clause, the Government is permitted unilaterally to alter the contract and hold the contractor to perform under the unilaterally changed contract. It is this important departure from the old concept of mutuality, with its pointed inferences on the non governmental party, that sets the Government contract different from the standard commercial contract. Incidentally, this rare arrangement is altogether to the disadvantage of the contractor. The Changes clause affords for an equitable compensation, if it is fitting. Additionally, the Changes clause, in linking with the Disputes clause, offers an opening of reprieve if a dispute arises as to what is reasonable compensation.... • 47. The Issue Of Healthcare Reform Healthcare reform continues to be a topic of discussion among politicians, medical professionals, and many Americans who are struggling to pay for care in a system where costs are skyrocketing out of control. Consequently these costs are forcing many Americans to file bankruptcy due to the massive amount of medical debt that they owe, slowing our economy and reducing reimbursements for medical facilities (Khazan) The debate on how to fix health care continues, even after the Affordable Care Act was passed in 2010 to help begin our national journey to fix health care in America. Currently there is a divide between the two Democratic presidential nominees in regards to how we should fix our current system. Bernie Sanders is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many believe that healthcare in Canada is free when in fact if you look at it from a policy framework view it is not. The healthcare system in Canada is financed by government enforced tax rates that vary in costs depending on family size. income, and province location (Canadian Health Care). While the federal government creates standards for health care, provincial governments make decisions in regards to where hospitals should be located, how many physicians each location should have, and the services that they will provide (Canadian Health Care). Ultimately, if the United States moves to a single payer system, taxes will increase to pay for the program. The question that often is asked when discussing a single payer system is how much will my taxes increase and it this cost more than I am currently paying. This is most often where the debate begins. In 2013 the average tax dedicated to the healthcare program for a family of 4 in Canada was $11,320 (Esmail). For a family of three with two parents, the cost was approximately $10,989 (Esmail). This tax pays for all medical care and does not require additional payments for co pays, deductibles, or out of pocket expenses (Canadian Health Care). For a family of 4 in America the cost of health care averages $22,030 with an employer paying $12,886 of that total cost and the remaining $9,144 being paid for by the employee (Esmail). The early twentieth century serves as an excellent illustration of the theory that writers reflect the major cultural influences of their time (Cultural Influences on American Literature in the Late Nineteenth Century). F. Scott Fitzgeraldwas an outstanding author who greatly influenced Americans of his time through his phenomenal works of literature. • 49. Example Of Obstervation And Data Collection Methods Of... Observation/Data Collection Method Observational Method The targeted behavior was observed at the school Daniel attends every day of the week. The observation session took place on 9/4/17 from 10:00 11:00 a.m. Daniel was in his general education classroom, which is a second grade classroom with 14 other students. The room contains 5 student tables, 15 chairs, teacher desk, kidney table, rocking chair, promethean board, and an array of books and teaching materials, along with student supplies. Daniels classroom has little storage but seems to be organized; the students know where to get items and where to turn in items. During this time of day, the class engages in snack time; this is scheduled on Daniels IEP because of his diabetes so the whole class partakes in a snack during this time. Students are sitting at their groups, eating their snacks and working on center work. The observer was seated on the north side of the room; along this side is a wall of windows with a counter and cabinets. The observer had a clear view and auditory accessibility of the interactions between Daniel and his teacher, Daniel and his para, and Daniel and his peers. The observer only took data on the target behavior (social communication responding to peers by saying hi when prompted). During this observation session, Daniel was working on his spelling words for the week at his group. His peers at his group were also working on the same task. In short, the York Water Company is in a solid financial position. It has no basis to ask for yet another rate increase of any amount and the Commission should respond to its request accordingly. (d) According to a PUC spokesperson as reported in a recent York Sunday News editorial a utility company spends about $1 million to request a rate hike. Given, the number of attorneys, consultants, judges, commissioners, and other state employees involved, it seems likely that the cost to the commonwealth to examine and rule on that rate hike request would equal, if not exceed $1 million. A process which results in an expenditure of something on the order of $16 million in the years since 1999 for a single utility company cries out for remediation. Would it not be far more efficient, equitable, and cost effective to authorize a pro forma semiannual or annual utility rate increase linked to some economic index with a provision for special exceptions under strictly defined extenuating circumstances? The present procedure makes for absurd theater. It is respectfully requested that the Commission move ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
