Janet created a composite image of marine animals in Photoshop. She began by finding photos of an ocean background and animals like dolphins, seals, and whales. Using selection and layer tools, she inserted the animals into the background image, erased extra edges, adjusted colors, and added blurring to make the animals seem underwater. Finally, she added a title with wave-like text using filters and positioning tools before centering and finishing the composite image.

Before I even started working in Photoshop, I went online and found all the photos at which I
would use to create my image. I took a two year graphic design class in high school, so I already
knew a lot about how to use Photoshop. First, I took the picture of the ocean from underwater
and put it as my background for the animals I was going to insert into my image. I made sure that
the image was 72 dpi. After that I opened each animal photo (the dolphin, seal, and whale) on
their own window and make sure each photo was in 72 dpi. Then I took the magic lasso tool and
selected around each animal. Once I did this, I took the selection tool and dragged the animal
selected and put it onto the ocean background. Once I had each animal where I wanted, I took the
eraser tool and carefully went around each animal and erased any extra material around the
animal. Then once I did this for ever animal I adjusted the colors on each layer to where I liked
the color the animal was. I tried to make sure the colors weren’t too bright considering the
animals were under the water. After doing all this, I finished with the animals by taking the blur
took and outlining the animals so there wasn’t a distinct outline around the animals. Once I
finished placing the animals where I wanted them to be, I decided to add the title “Marine
Animals” at the top of the page. I decided to use white font and turn the opacity down so it
would blend in with the ocean water. After I did that, I used the filter “liquefy” so I could
manipulate the layout of the letters and create my own wave effect on the letters. Once I was
finished with the letters I centered them to the page and I was finished.
