Baseball Is The Same Way Of Life
Merrian Webster s definition of baseball is, a ball game played between two teams of nine on a
field with a diamond shaped circuit of four bases. In reality baseball is so much more than that.
The movies Bull Durham, The Natural, and Field of Dreams exemplify the metaphysical meaning
of sport. Baseball is a metaphor for the American wayof life; it unites people. It can even bring back
the dead. The lessons learned in baseballilluminate the core tenants of American society. The
metaphysical meaning of baseball represents Americas pulse and has the ability to even bring
back the dead. A defining factor of American Life has been how you handle failure. As Rocky
Balboa once said, It s not about how hard you can hit, it s about how... Show more content on

He even sets the minor league record for career home runs. After all of this he still fights with all
his energy to make the majors, he is one of the team s leading hitters and mentors the team s star
pitcher, Nuke. Again, despite his efforts the team decides to send him down. At first, he is
heartbroken, but then he bounces back on his feet and decides to become a manager. Even
though he does not get to achieve his dream of being a major leaguer he adapts and makes the
most of his situation. By all measures he fails in almost every aspect of becoming a major
leaguer, but in the end he is happy and is doing what he loves. This is a key to the American
lifestyle.
Nowadays more than ever, people have to change their careers to pursue new found interests.
Look at Hank Nichols for example, he wanted to play baseball, but ultimately became a world
renowned basketball official. As he said when he talked to us, he did not put his head down and
pout rather he learned from his failure and used it to help him in the future. This is analogous to
what Crash ultimately decides to do.
This ability to adapt is also exemplified by Roy Hobbs. He is a small town boy who has to strike
out The Whammer on three pitches to even get a chance at the big leagues. After mounting the
pressure he is shot by a conniving mistress wearing a black veil and is hospitalized for multiple
years. While most would

Essay On Gender Inequality
Amnesty International
5 Penn Plaza, 16th Floor
New York, NY 1001
Dear Advocacy Representative, As many of us know throughout history there have been many
inequalities that the world has been faced with; whether it is race, gender, or ethnic background. I
am writing you, the representatives for Equal Rights to discuss an urgent concern of American
women in the workplace. Although gender inequality is decreasing, it still exists and makes a lot of
people suffer its consequences every day. Gender inequality is unfair rights between male and
female based on different gender roles which leads to unequal treatment. Gender inequality has been
widely known in human history but not until the beginning of the 20th century has the change of ...

This historic rise came about in 2005 and, since then, the pay gap has remained roughly
unchanged. Women as a whole experience the gender pay gap but there is also a racial pay gap. A
woman makes 77 cents for every dollar a Caucasian man makes.
Last year when looking at median hourly pay, black workers earned $18.49 an hour. White
workers earned an average of $25.22 an hour. Caucasian women make about 75 cents to every
dollar a caucasian man makes. Asian women make an average of 85 cents to every dollar a
caucasian man makes. For black, Latina, and Native women, that number is significantly lower.
On average, Latina and black women who are low wage earners and work full time live below the
poverty line. White men who are low wage earners and work full time live above the poverty line.
According to the map from National Women s Law Center women lose $418,800 over a 40 year
career. That number is more than double from latina and black women. It will take years for the
gap to be resolved. In the U.S the gender wage gap is lower than it is in any country although there
has not being improvements since the 1990s. However, the contribution of men to household and
childcare has grown significantly in recent years, it is still far below women s contributions.
In today s society, women make up almost half of the workforce; in four out of ten families,
women are the equal, if not main, breadwinners as

Histone Protein
The unique and primary proteins of DNA, the highly basic histone proteins have been found to be
ubiquitous and conserved among eukaryotes. DNA and histones co exist as a closely associated
and highly coiled structure. The purpose of such a structural organization is to compact DNA;
which would otherwise be too long to be accommodated within the restricted boundaries of a single
cell. Core histones (H2A, H2B, H3 and H4) and Linker histones (H1) are the two types that this
unique proteinis composed of. These Core histone exhibit a structured organization with H2A and
H2B forming dimers and H3 and H4 forming tetramers. Along with approximately 146 base pairs
of DNA, these core histones form a heterotypic nucleosome complex; weighing about 206... Show

Since this is the only part of the histone protein which exists in an uncoiled state, it is subjected to
far more modifications than the core proteins. Structurally, the H1 proteins exhibits a much longer
C terminal domain as compared to its N terminal domain surrounding a highly conserved central
globular domain. This C terminal domain is arranged as a ОІ hairpin motif associated with three
О± helices. The C terminal is lined with Lysine residues with alternating Alanine residues. The
amino acid constitution of the N and C terminals of this linker histone is detrimental for
chromatin folding. The N terminal region is composed of hydrophobic residues and the globular
domain is made up of mostly basic amino acids; however the exact composition still remains to be
characterized. Research has revealed the C terminal domain by itself is able to bring about an
efficient amount of chromatin fiber folding as the native H1 protein. Phosphorylation of this linker
histone protein is the most studied post translational modification. Research has brought forward
numerous examples of cross talk found to be essential for regulation of this protein. Acetylation of
Lysine at position 34 by HAT enzyme has been proven to be associated with activation of DNA

The Importance Of Character Development In Anthem
Character development is essential in a character driven literature, where the plot focuses not on
the events themselves, but actually on the characters motivations throughout their story. This
literary device is utilized step by step in order to focus and clarify the crucial aspects about the
character in a story. The stories that move us most, the ones that will be trapped inside our
minds years later, are those inhabited by characters the reader can connect with on a deep
emotional level. No one character can grasp in a story what they need to learn in order to give in
or overcome their own limitations and flaws without first undergoing rigorous life experiences.
The bumpy path of individual growth and development a certain character undergoes ultimately
stares at a crossroad. Imperfections, traits and vices make a character more genuine and
interesting, making them grow as a person. Equality 7 2521 s development as a character
throughout Anthem can be seen as a progressive move towards the distinctive way of thinking he
discovers and presents in the final chapters of the novel. It s an egoistic way of thinking, because it
asserts that the only goal of any individual human being should be to pursue his own happiness, and
not to subordinate his happiness to the service of others. Equality 7 2521 begins Anthem with a
declaration of his sins, indicating the degree to which his society has influenced the development of
his thoughts. There is quite a shift from the way

The Legacy Of The First Black U.s. Supreme Court Justice
The Legacy of the First Black U.S. Supreme Court Justice The life of Thurgood Marshall and the
legacy that he abandoned has affected the present day U.S. Legal Branch today. He did
numerous things throughout his life that were persuasive to the administration. He did as well
as could be expected to end all racial isolation. He had worked inside the Supreme Court to end
the enduring legacy of subjection in the nation. He additionally worked for the benefit of
American culture (Haddock). Marshall was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on July 2, 1908. He
was the considerable grandson of a slave who was conceived in the advanced Democratic
Republic of the Congo; his granddad was likewise a slave. His unique name was Thoroughgood,
yet was in the end abbreviated to Thurgood in second grade since he disdained spelling it. His
dad, William Marshall, who was a railroad doorman, and his mom Norma, an instructor, imparted
in him a gratefulness for the United States Constitution and the standard of law (Brownworth).
In the wake of moving on from graduate school, Marshall began a private law firm in Baltimore.
He started his 25 year alliance with the National Association for the Advancement of Colored
People (NAACP) in 1934 by speaking to the association in the graduate school segregation suit
Murray v. Pearson. In 1936, Marshall turned out to be a piece of the national staff of the NAACP.

Synonymous Parallelism
Tip number one was to watch for things that are repeated. If you run across something that is
repeated, it means that it was very important. You will find these types of things all throughout
the bible, but the challenge is to see what other do not see. We learned in class that a good bible
study is the art of seeing the obvious. Repeated phrases or words are an indication that we should
stop and take a second look, maybe even pull that section apart and research it more in depth.
Another tip we learned was that we should be looking for people or specific names. When the bible
talks about Abraham I the New Testament, we would want to study the history of Abraham and
his linage and the historical beginning of Israel. This tip is challenging you to research the bible
and you will find how from beginning to end it is all tied together, there is a plan, a direction, a
hope all throughout the pages.

Beginning with the literary context to the different themes; which happened to be one of my
favorites, the class was informative and instructive. I have found that journaling what I am
reading about has come to a new level. For example, I have been reading the book of Job and for
each chapter I am breaking down what is happening, and putting it more as a bullet point process
rather than a writing out every detail process. I have found that it actually helps me remember
what was said in each chapter, and that it is easier to repeat back what I have read. My next step
is to break it down even more to the knowing what audience it was for, and what were the key
things that I can pull from the book and any themes it may have. And although I did not get to
read the text book word for word, I am going to enjoy going back and studying it more in dept. This
was a great class and I greatly enjoyed

Peter Pan Comparison
To begin with, it was researched that although the Peter Pan fairytale and the Disney movie had the
same idea and theme, they were very much different. This Compare and Contrast essay states the
differences and similarities of both. Including; Settings, clothes, origins and the modifications
Disney made to the original tale.
The fairytale was originally based upon Sir James M. Barrie s 1904 play about the boy who
refuses to grow up, the film begins in the London nursery of Wendy, John, and Michael Darling,
where three children are visited by Peter Pan. With the help of his tiny friend, Tinkerbell, Peter
takes the three children on a magical flight to Never Land. This enchanted island is home to Peter,
Tink, the Lost Boys, Tiger Lily and her Native American nation, and the scheming Captain Hook
who is as intent on defeating Peter Pan as he is from escaping the tick tocking crocodile that once
ate a hand of his that Peter Pan cut off and loved the taste of so much.
Clothes wise, the fairytale s wardrobe is very different to Disneys film. In the original tale, Barrie
never described Peter s appearance in detail, even in the novel Peter and Wendy, leaving much of it
to the imagination of the reader and the interpretation of anyone adapting the character. In the play,
Peter s outfit is made of autumn leaves and cobwebs. And in the movie, ... Show more content on

The novel further explains that the Neverlands are compact enough that adventures are never far

ways of being with a diverse and fun setting full with colors, creatures and adventurous places for
the lost boys and Wendy to

Much Ado About Nothing Essay
William Shakespeare s Much Ado About Nothing is a play involving by deception, disloyalty,
trickery, eavesdropping, and hearsay. The play contains numerous examples of schemes that are
used to manipulate the thoughts of other characters; it is the major theme that resonates throughout
the play. Ironically, it is one of these themes that bring serenity to the chaos that encompasses most
of the play.
amp;#9;The first example of deception we see is with the characters of Beatrice and Benedick.
These two characters provide the humor throughout Shakespeare s comedy; their repartees and
soliloquies tend to leave the reader smiling and anxious for more dialogue between them. Beatrice
and Benedick have had a relationship prior to their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Benedick, shows us his true feelings in his soliloquy: amp;quot; This can be no trick... / I will be
horribly in love with her amp;quot; (2.3.210,223). Benedick, decides that he will allow himself to
fall in love with Beatrice.
amp;#9;The second example of deception is seen in Act 3.1. Hero and Ursula do their parts to trick
Beatrice into falling in love with Benedick. They speak highly of Benedick and amp;quot;praise
him more than ever man did merit amp;quot; (3.3.19). In her eavesdropping and overhearing she
falls for the bait, as did Benedick. In Beatrice s soliloquy she discloses her thoughts of Benedick s
false affectations towards her. She is willing to tame her heart so that Benedick and she can be
together. Beatrice s submissiveness shows her subconscious yearnings to be in love, as well as
Benedick even though She and Benedick aren t willing to admit it.
amp;#9;The most heinous act of deception in Much Ado About Nothing is committed against Hero,
the daughter of Leonato, and Claudio. These two characters, unlike Beatrice and Benedick, fall in
love after seeing each other for the first time Shakespeare s classic case of love at first sight. The
deception starts after Borachio overhears Don Pedro s plan to amp;quot;assume thy part in some
disguise amp;quot; (1.1.305) in order to woo Hero for Claudio. At the masquerade party, while
Don Pedro is dancing with Hero in hopes of wooing her for Claudio, Borachio and

Nuclear Fusion And Fission Reactors
Nuclear Fusion/Fission Reactors
Nuclear Fusion is:
A heavier atom is formed when two light atomic nuclei s (e.g. hydrogen 1 hydrogen 2 )are fused
together which only happens when a substantial blow of energy is released and then a larger and
heavier nuclei is created( e.g. helium 3.) E.g. when sun and stars release energy. It can t be
controlled as the amount of power required to generate and maintain fusion is more than the
reaction can generate itself.
Nuclear Fission is:
Nuclear fission is the splitting of large nuclei into smaller ones. An atom called Uranium 235

The Theory Of Juvenile Delinquency
On September 4 in 1989 Joan and her two daughters Jennifer and Melissa were found murder in

but the mother and the two kids had awoken and he killed them to protect himself from getting

when he was only thirteen. People often question how somebody so young could such a terrifying
act but researches how found a couple of theories that could be the possible reason for this chaos.
The theories of delinquent life course pretty much is the backbone of many other more specific
theories in the studying of juvenile delinquency. Next in the book is the latent trait theory, which
explains the flow of delinquency over a lifetime. Finally the third theory is a mix of latent trait and
life course theory which states there is more then one path to crimeand more than one class of
offenders. The chapter starts of with life course theory, which tends to show how every person
related experience can effect a child s future behavior.

However, teachers are not the only ones helping the victims. Several research studies have looked at
the role of bystanders in bullying students. Teachers and students who witness bullying can work
together to reduce bullying in schools and classrooms. But there is also evidence that those who
were bystanders were not willing to help the victims (Espelage, Green, Polanin, 2012). Students
often do not support victims when there are multiple witnesses (Salmicalli, 2010). Students expect
someone else to intervene or ignore the victim or may consider the bullying to be a joke ( Terasahjo

why these companies are compatible. They can combine their strengths in the two industries to
become an agricultural power house. Plus, their resources can be effectively used to enter new
markets such as digital agriculture. Monsanto recently acquired the Climate Corporation which is a
leader in this field consistently innovating and improving their technology. With Bayer s capital it is

Protest For The National Anthem Of The United States
Emily Petrochuk Professor Psenicka English 102 31 October 2016 Protests to the National
Anthem of the United States A famous sports figure in history once said, I cannot stand and sing
the anthem. I cannot salute the flag. I know that I am a black man in a white world (McKirdy).
At first glance, this quote seems to be something that would have been said by the San Francisco
49ers Quarterback, Colin Kaepernick, in light of his recent protests, as well as other sports
players who decided to follow suit, to the playing of the national anthem before football games.
However, this is not the case. The above quote was written in the 1972 autobiography, I Never
Had it Made, written by Jackie Robinson, an African American Baseball player (McKirdy).
Colin Kaepernick obviously felt the same as Jackie Robinson did when he sat on the bench
rather than standing during a rendition of the national anthem before a preseason game against
the Green Bay Packers on August 26. During an interview with the media following the game,
Kaepernick explained why he refused to stand for the anthem, I am not going to stand up to
show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color. To me, this is
bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in
the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder (Wyche). Kaepernick explains

The Language in The Red Room by H G Wells and The Signalman by Charles Dickens
Throughout, The Signalman has suspense and the tension is gripping, as the author, Dickens, has
used exceedingly good description in the language and the setting is just perfect. Dickens had an
advantage when writing this story as there were similarities between himself and some of the
characters; since he had been involved in a train accident himself. He creates mystery in this
book very well. He uses repetition in the book, as the phrase, Halloa! Below there! was repeated
at least three times in the story. The language used in this story sets the setting perfectly, here is an

Another well written extract is this, One man with a withered arm, the woman swaying from side to

the shade, and he constantly coughed and spluttered. This sets the scene that the place is weird and
unique as they are grotesque and distorted old people, weird, with the feel of decay and death
about them. They make you feel uncomfortable. Finally, another extract, which I think sets the
setting of the story completely, the ornaments and the conveniences of the room were ghostly, the
thought of a vanished room compared against today s modern world. It gives the sense of the pale,
half vanished men in white suits standing next to the ornaments. Similarities between The
Signalman and The Red Room are they are both written in Gothic Literature. An example of this is

At a time when the Black community is being afforded a free status, but not one of equality, many
leaders arise out of the woodwork to appeal to the white governing body for social equality. The
transition from the ninetieth century to the twentieth century gives birth to two of these leaders,
Booker T. Washington and W.E.B. Du Bois. These two men are both working to achieve a common
goal, but the roads on which they re each traveling to get there differ significantly. Booker T.

The opposing approaches of Washington and Du Bois are far from unnoticeable, and receive
recognition from both sides. Whether or not these two dynamic leaders are intentionally attacking
each other, one can only speculate that the vast differences in methodology creates tension within
the arena. In Washington s Atlanta Compromise
Address (D) he comments that the wisest among my race understand that the agitation of questions
of social equality is the extremist folly, and that progress in the enjoyment of all the privileges that
will come to us must be the result of severe and constant struggle rather than of artificial forcing.
(D) This statement, delivered at a time when Blacks and whites have separate water fountains(J),
almost one hundred and forty Black people were lynched(C), and forty five to sixty percent of
Blacks over the age of nine are illiterate(B), directly condemns the blunt complaining with which Du
Bois is aligning himself.
Return criticism is illustrated in The Souls of Black Folk, written by Du Bois in 1903.
The way for a people to gain respect is not by continually belittling and ridiculing themselves; that,

Transfer Students Vs. Non-Traditional Students
Despite that the transfer and non traditional students aren t traditional students, they are in fact new

Sophocles Tragic Demise Of Oedipus Rex
A dispute that still storms today is whether we have free will, or if forces outside of human
control, fate, decides our future. The same argument pertains to Oedipus Rex. The question raised
is whether Oedipus caused his downfall due to his hamartia, his bad actions, or if it was simply
fate, that the gods predetermined his life course. Sophocles expresses irony in his play to help the
audience cognize the play and give them a better outlook on the reason Oedipusand his family
brought about their tribulation and blamed fate for it. Due to Hubris, and the inadequate actions
Oedipus makes in desperately preventing what was prophesied, the result led to his and his family
s tragic demise.
It is understandable that many conclude Oedipus Rex is based on fate because of the perceived
unavoidability of the prophecy. The prophecy of the child of Laius was that he was to kill his
father and marry his mother. In the beginning of the play Laius was told of this prophecy and did
not accept what was foretold of his future. From that day forward, he did everything in his power
to prevent the prophecy from accomplishing. Laius and his wife Jocasta took extreme measures
and pierced their child s legs then ordering their shepherd to leave it on a mountain to die. As the
Shephard leaves to the mountains, out of pity, he saves its life and hands it to another shepherd
working across from him. After receiving the baby, the other shepherd offered him to his master

Ivan, Grand Prince Of Moscow
My research theme was about Ivan III Grand Prince of Moscow in this paper I will tell you
about Ivan and his childhood. I will also explain to you his greatest achievements and how he
was successful in the many battles he ordered to take place. In this paper I will also explain how
he became Ivan the Great and what people thought of him. Ivan Vasilievich, later known as Ivan
the Great, was born on January 22 1440 in Moscow, Russia. Ivan family consisted of two brothers
and his parents were Maria Yaroslavna and his father was Grand Prince Vasili II. Ivan father was
thought as a ruthless and cold person. When Grand Prince Vasili dies, he would break up his
kingdom in three, for his sons. As a result Ivan came to power during the time of the Great Civil
War. Ivan took the throne at 22 years of age. Long time after his two brothers passed, without
heirs. So Ivan inherited all of his father s land. The first few years that he took over people didn t
know what to think of him, so believed he would be like his father and others thought Ivan
wouldn t know what he was doing. However, his first missionary work was to get hold of the
Mongols land. These two kingdoms hated each other for the past few years, only these two
kingdoms would cross paths many times in the next few years. The biggest accomplishment was
to conquer the city state of Novgorod, which his army achieved. In getting this city, state Ivan s
army had to conceive of very good maneuvers. No one really knows Ivan s

Negative Effects Of Social Media Essay
Social media in this day and age weighs heavy on our everyday lives. Society tends to spend way
too much time on their mobile devices and computers on social media of all sorts including but not
limited to Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. It can create unwanted problems in relationships,
weight gain due to lack of physical activity, It may distract you for long periods of timewithout
realizing it and delay you from real world responsibilities. Social media may be one of the
biggest issues this society has. Another issue social media causes, it makes us lazy as a whole.
We lose the ability to spell, use proper grammar, or even punctuation. One of the biggest
problems with social media is the unwanted problems in a relationship. People spend way too
much time on their devices and instead of spending their much needed free time with their
families. Using social media during family time is not good family practice. Social media may
help with some everyday activities but during family time can be unacceptable for some people
and may actually hurt their feelings. This can also make the other party feel unimportant or
ignored, creating a tense barrier in a relationship. This is something that I myself have to work
on. My family says I spend way too much time on my cell phone looking onto Facebook. One
might think that he/she doesn t spend a lot of time on the social media but we do. It can at times
be addicting, The newsfeed on your time line is almost never ending, making you

Task 3: Interpreting Debug Output.
Note: If you already configured IP addressing on R1, please remove all the interface commands
now before proceeding. Furthermore, R2 and R3 should be configured through the end of Task 2:
Basic Router Configuration .
Step 1 On R1 from privileged EXEC mode, enter the debug ip routing command.
R1# debug ip routing.
IP routing debugging is on.
The debug ip routing command will show when routes are added, modified and deleted from the
routing table. For example, every time you successfully configure and activate an interface, Cisco
IOS adds a route to the routing table. We can verify this by observing output from the debug ip
routing command.
Step 2 Enter interface configuration mode for R1 s LAN ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

End with CNTL/Z.
R1(config)# interface serial 0/0/0
Configure the ip address as specified in the Topology Diagram.
R1(config if)# ip address 172.16.2.1 255.255.255.0 is_up: 0 state: 0 sub state: 1 line: 0 has_route:
False
As soon as you press the enter key, Cisco IOS debug output informs you that there is now a route,
but its state is False . Since R1 is the DCE side of our lab environment, we must specify how fast
bits will be clocked between R1 and R2.
Step 6 Enter the clock rate command on R1.
You can specify any valid clocking speed. Use the ? to find the valid rates. Here, we used 64000 bps.
R1(config if)# clock rate 64000
Step 7 Enter the command necessary to insure the interface is fully configured.
R1(config if)# no shutdown
After you enter the correct command, you should see debug output similar to the following:
is_up: 0 state: 0 sub state: 1 line: 0 has_route: False
%LINK 3 UPDOWN: Interface Serial0/0/0, changed state to down
Unlike the LAN interface, fully configuring the WAN interface is not always enough to have the
route entered in the routing table even if your cable connections are correct. The other side of the
WAN link must also be configured. /u gt;
Step 8 If possible, establish a separate terminal session with R2. Click on R2
This will allow you to observe the debug output on R2 when you make changes on R1. You can
also turn on debug ip routing on R2.

Nightburn closed the journal and replaced it in the secret compartment in his desk. He would

pushed his chair back, stood up and walked out onto the balcony. It was late evening and he hadn

conversation with some minor matters that had occurred during recruitment of new troops. Even
though the servants cleared the table, they still sat for some time finishing their glasses of wine
and talking about this and that, nothing of real concern. Relieved that no one had commented on
his late arrival, he yawned, only then realizing how truly tired he had become and excused
himself and retired to his room, finding a bath drawn with clean towels and the bedding changed.
He truly appreciated his service staff at that moment. Stripping off his clothes, he stepped into the

scrubbed off all the dirt from the day, he stepped out, dried himself with the towels left by the
servant, dressed in his bed attire, and plopped his tired body into bed. When his head hit the pillow,
he was fast asleep.

The Effects Of Tolerance On Schools And Schools
Policies, at micro, mezzo, and macro levels, affect our schools and students every day and
constitute the foundation of educational standards in North American schools; to say that
students are unaffected on a micro level would be dismissive, ignorant, and narrow minded.
Additionally, disregarding existing policies and practices in educational institutions and their
potential interactions and effects with new policies and practices would be a grievous oversight
in the decision making process. Zero tolerance in schools was initially defined as consistently
enforced suspension and expulsion policies in response to weapons, drugs and violent acts in
the school setting (NASP, 2001); if anything, maintaining the safety or well being of its students
is a responsibility of the school and school district and a honorable goal to set. However, these
policies have been broadened to include any rule infraction, more or less, regardless of mistakes,
ignorance, or extenuating circumstances. With a broad policy like zero tolerance in schools
comes a broad range of intended and unintended consequences; these consequences can be positive,
negative, and possibly even affect the policy s actual or perceived effectiveness. Intended and
unintended consequences of policy The question of effectiveness of zero tolerance in schools is
complicated and multi faceted. If effectiveness is determined broadly, as it applies to multiple rules
and policies, the majority of research surrounding zero

Sartre
As stated by Sartre, man has the choice to make all of their decisions freely, but are still
condemned to be free, because we were thrust upon this earth without any choice and forced to
exist. Since everyone was placed on this earth without our choosing, we still have to choose and
act freely from any type of situation we may end up in. Because of that, every choicewe make and
the resulting circumstance that may come with it is the result of us being free and having those
choices to make. The choice to have a choice is really the only thing we cannot choose. In his
book, Sartre says, Not only are we condemned to be free because we did not choose to exist, but

There are no sets of ethics, morals, or eternal values that we can base our entire lives on. The
phrases, I can t or, I must in regards to doing anything since we have the ultimate choice in
anything and nothing is ever truly forced upon us. Sartre believes that we should never put the
blame for anything that we do on anyone else but ourselves. Even though we may believe that
the consequence of our action could be blamed on someone other than us, it always ends up
being up to us, whether we want it to or not. This specific view that Sartre has on the
responsibility of our actions being on ourselves conflicts with the Catholic philosophy. Sartre
says that our reasons for picking one action over another being what God wanted for us or that it
was in someone s nature to do so are false. To him, it is our responsibility. As we live our lives
and go through the experiences that we do, we must create our own meaning. To him, that is the
meaning of existence. We are the ones who are held responsible for our destiny and how we live
our lives and shape ourselves is all derived from what we make of ourselves. On a bit of a different
note, Sartre does believe that this freedom of choice that we have can be seen as somewhat of a
curse. This curse is prevalent when dissecting Sartre s phrase, condemned to be

Secondly, early child hood home visitation can be delivered by nurse or professional. The time
when IPV is more prevalent is during pregnancy and after delivery, says Davis (2015). This is
when a woman in an abusive relationship feels most vulnerable and need help. Unfortunately,
the US government offers these programs only to low income families and first time parents.
Ultimately, prevention can be achieved by raising awareness about dating violence in schools,
promoting heathy relationships among children, and respecting boundaries early in life.
Moreover, improving financial security and family support can reduce stress during financial
struggle. Also, supporting family in the absence of employment, low income, and financial
stress, can help narrow gender pay gap. Furthermore, a research conducted by Davis (2015)
supports that additional provision of tax credit, child care services, and other strategies as seen
in Canada will support parental employment and reduce the cost of childbearing and stress
among couples. Also, paid leave policies when a woman is paid for sickness, parental care or
vacation cash assistance for food, shelter, and medical care in times of need can promote healthy

The Media Is A Real Issue
I was 17 years old when I first moved to this country. The first day, when I turned on the TV,
different commercials came on. I watched them with a look of shock on my face. The way they
portray women, in such an over sexualized way, was shocking to me. Compared to where I come
from, America is relatively closed when talking about topics surrounding sex. This use of women
and sex in the media is a recurring theme that I have seen in my years of living in the United
States. I am glad that I can now share, in a school assignment a different cultural view of this topic.
When looking for an advertisement to do my essay on, this one stood out.

the picture is much more than just that. If you continue to look closely, there is a hidden message

Birthing And Prenatal Care Interview
Birthing and Prenatal Care Interview Giving birth to a baby is the most amazing and
miraculous experiences for parents and their loved ones. Every woman s birth story is different
and full of joy. Furthermore, the process from the moment a woman knows that she s pregnant
to being in the delivering room is very critical to both her and the newborn baby. Prenatal care is
extremely important and it can impact greatly the quality of life of the baby. In this paper, the
topic of giving birth will be discussed thoroughly by describing the stories of two mothers who

correlation of the advancement of modern medicine between four decades. Christine Le, an
accountant living in Flushing, New York, gave birth to a healthy baby Nathan on January 29th,

Portrayal Of Wonder Woman
The Rise of Wonder Woman Comic books have been used as a mirror of society to show or
influence the behavior of people. Wonder Woman was a breakthrough from all the masculine
superhero franchise at the time of her conception and was created with the intentions of being
propaganda for the new type of woman during the second wave of feminism. The comic world
which was filled with male heroes, readily welcomed the first comic heroine to make an
appearance in the DC Comic book universe. The new character was immediately successful.
Marston s idealized Amazon capable, strong, but traditionally feminine seemed to strike the perfect
chord for a country at war (Stanley, 2005). Wonder Woman has been reinvented many times
throughout the years, since her origins to recent contemporary films. Not only were her costume
changed, but major themes and storylines were altered to reflect both patriarchal society s need to
redefine according to cultural and economic circumstances (Stanley, 2015). Wonder Woman has
become a successful female character and global icon, balancing traditional masculinity and
femininity using her superhero identity and her alter ego as Diana Prince. This paper will be focus

Analysis Of The Poem For Whom The Bellstone
The ideas presented in John Donne s poem For Whom the Bell Tolls, heavily contrast the ideas
presented in Paul Simon s song, I Am a Rock. John Donne demonstrates that we are all apart of
humanity and mankind and how all humans have a connection with one another. Paul Simon
contrasts this overall idea by demonstrating that people are sick of society and want to be isolated
from humanity. The information presented by John Donne and Paul Simon are unique, but have
very contrasting ideas as they pertain to humanity.
One clear contrast between the pieces of literature, are two specific lines. In Donne s poem, he

Simon uses several phrases to demonstrate the protection built to separate oneself from humanity.
For example, I ve built walls, a fortress deep and mighty that none my peneratre. A person can
choose to build a fortress where they can be safe from attack, safe from pain, and hence never
need to shed any tears. The room that is cozy as a womb becomes a tomb. The heart, given
enough time, will become hard and incapable of any feeling. Simon uses an individual who is
hurt, to showcase the retreat to safety. This is okay for a certain extent of time, but sadly, some
stay inside. They hide in their fortress, like a turtle drawn into its armored shell. John Donne
contrasts this idea using the line A part of the main, and implies everyone is together and how
living in solitude is not living, but only existing.
John Donne s poem demonstrates we all have a role within the world, and our contributions are
never ignored, hence the last line, It tolls for thee, referencing funeral bells. The last line implies
that the bell rings for you, the reader, and how you are acknowledged as a human being and as a
member of society. Paul Simon s song contrasts this idea with the last four lines of the song, I am a
rock, I am an island, and a rock feels no pain, and an island never cries. The song is a declaration of
an individual who was not a rock, but needed people, and had been

Explain Why Political Leaders Ignore Intelligence Warnings
Why Do Political Leaders Ignore Intelligence Warnings? Political leaders ignore intelligence
warnings based on several motives. These motives range from cognitive biases and mindsets that
create unrealistic expectation of intelligence and non acknowledgement of relevant intelligence, to
plausible deniability, and the creation of opacity. Both plausible deniability and opacity are
significant motivations, as it takes a conscious action to ignore intelligence warnings, while
mindsets are an unconscious motivation. However, mindsets and cognitive biases play a more
significant role in a political leader s decision to ignore intelligence warnings. Mindsets, in
psychological terms, define a person s mental lens on how they understand their world. These
mental perceptions, or biases, refer to the unconscious influence of a person s belief system and
the simple strategies they use, to make sense of the world they live in. Consequently, these biases
also lead to distortions in an individual s perceptions of reality. The creation of these biases leads to
mindsets that form quickly, as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Non acknowledgement occurs when a political leader has clear knowledge of some fact or
intelligence report but does not acknowledge it. It occurs most often when a political leader will
substitute their own knowledge for that of the intelligence community s assessment. This non
acknowledgement of intelligence warning is considered politicization of intelligence. Politicization
of intelligence occurs when political leaders guide the information being collected, rather than the
information leading the them, to an outcome. Political leaders politicize intelligence by cherry
picking information that favors their assessment, while ignoring alternative reports. This allows
warnings to be ignored by political leaders who seek exclusive information that align with their
cognitive biases or preferred

How do both The Stranger by Albert Camus and A Doll’s...
From the very first line of Albert Camus The Stranger, Maman died today, (Camus 3) the quirky
character of Meursault is shown to be different. The same holds true with Henrik Ibsen s classic
play, A Doll s House, concerning Nora, a mother who abandons her family in order to pursue her
own happiness. Both characters, while set in opposing societies, exhibit similar characteristics: a
courageous, if not reckless, pursuit of happiness, be it physical in the case of Meursault or mental
for Nora, and the relentless disregard of social standards and norms in the chase for free will. Both
Ibsen and Camus use the pervading theme of free will to evolve the characters of Nora and
Meursault, specifically incorporating ideas such as existentialism... Show more content on

Nora, unlike Meursault, is contained by a mental block, a societal influence that dresses her,
feeds her, makes her dance the Tarantula, and ultimately loathe her place in the literal Dolls
house. Nora, called many pet names such as a little spend thrift (Ibsen 2), a squirrel (2), and her
husband, Torvald s little songbird (25), faces constant reminders of her oppression. Like
Meursault, Nora yearns for the all encompassing feeling of free will, and once she gets a taste, the
ache becomes a severe painful longing until, as Torvald accurately predicts, she dances as if [her]
life depended on it (48).
Both Nora and Meursault act outrageously in the viewpoint of their communities in the quest
for free will. As Torvald s wife, Nora is expected to keep the house beautifully and have
everything just as Torvald likes it! (13). However, after experiencing the freedom and power that
her financial deal with Krogstad gives her, Nora finds the dollhouse she once found solace in
confining and suffocating. Following the unraveling of her secret business transaction and the turn
of unexpected events, Nora finally plucks up the courage to take life for herself, leaving her home,
husband, and children in her wake. While Nora s society degrades strong women for not being
obedient wives, Nora forsakes the comfort in social norms to determine her own future and capture
the remaining strings of free will that survived

Case Study Of Tanishq
Tanishq started in 1994 and challenged the established family jeweller system prevalent in India.
They have set up production and sourcing bases with thorough research of the jewellery crafts of
India. Their factory located at Hosur, Tamil Nadu (India) spreads over 135,000 sq ft
(12,500 m2). Tanishq was launched as a range of jewellery and jewellery watches meant for the
European American markets, but later on shifted focus on Indian markets to tap the domestic
opportunity too.
They spread awareness to the public about alleged impurity in Gold .
Tanishq introduced innovations like Karatmeter, the only nondestructive means to check the purity
of gold and machine made jewellery. In India, Tanishq has country wide presence. In November
2012, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Industry watchers were extremely skeptical of Tanishq and doubts were being cast over its
prospects. Tanishq began by offering jewellery in the 18 carat gold range, with designs borrowed
heavily from contemporary European brands. The company justified its decision saying that it
wanted to be
different from the traditional Indian offerings.
Tanishq was the largest overseas chain in US with 1,200 outlets. In the year 2000, exports
contributed 10% to the company s turnover. The story of Tanishq, once written off as a losing
proposition, making a remarkable turnaround was an example of a company single mindedly
working to make its own mark in the tradition bound Indian jewellery market. Behind this success
was, of course, a well planned and wellexecuted marketing plan.

Pangaea Research Paper
Pangaea
We believe that earth was one and all the continents were all together together then something
happened that split them up.About 300 million years ago, Earth didn t have seven continents, but
instead one huge supercontinent called Pangaea, which was surrounded by a single ocean called
Panthalassa. Beyond that, the details get fuzzy. While the heat formed in the mantlelikely comes
from the when a radioactive substance breaks down of unstable elements, such as uranium,
scientists don t agree on whether there are mini pockets of heat flow within the mantle, or if the
whole shell is one big heat conveyor belt.
The supercontinent began to break apart about 200 million years ago.
The explanation for Pangaea s (creation and construction/ group of objects) brought in the modern
explanation of plate (the study of Earth s surface plate movement), which suggests says that the
Earth s outer shell is broken up into (more than two, but not a lot of) plates that slide over Earth s
rocky shell, the mantle. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

two, but not a lot of times in Earth s history, only to be split off into new continents. Rightnow for
instance, Australia is slowly moving toward Asia, and the eastern part of/amount of Africa is
slowly peeling off from the rest of the continent. Land and rock experts have seen have heard have
become aware of that there is an almost regular cycle in which supercontinents form and break up
every 300 to 400 million years, but exactly why is a mystery, Murphy said. But most scientists
believe that the supercontinent cycle is mostly driven by circulation patterns of relationships,
movement, or sound in the mantle, according to a 2010 article in the Journal of

The Triangle Fire Industrial Revolution
In the early 1900s, America s mostly rural society was transformed into a urban manufacturing
nation. This dramatic metamorphosis caused a deeper chasm between the poor and the rich, but
helped form a thriving middle class. American cities overflowed with millions of European
immigrants willing to provide cheap labor that was the catalyst for a thriving economy. New York
Citybecame the largest industrial powerhouse in the United States because of the garment industry.
Due to the availability of affordable factory made items, American culture became preoccupied with
the acquisition of goods, and the concept of consumerism was born. Sadly, the poverty stricken
population who lived in slums and worked in intolerable conditions suffered tremendously. The
book, The Triangle Fire by Jo Ann E. Argersinger tells the true story behind the spark of change of
the exploitation of factory workers within America. With the advent of the Industrial Revolution,
and the key historical events that followed, there were many cultural and political changes in the
United States.
In the era of the Industrial Revolution, many key historical events created a butterfly effect of
change. As a result of the abysmal living and working conditions of the immigrants, pivotal actions
by women reformers and women workers improved the lives of girls working in New York s
garment industry. Due to the invention of the shirtwaist, New York was home to nearly five
hundred factories. Many young Jewish and

Stand And Deliver Movie Citation
Stand and Deliver: Movie about an Educational Setting
In order to complete this assignment, I decided to focus on the educational setting of the film
Stand and Deliver . Stand and Deliver took place in the year 1987 and was focused on
demonstrating the life challenges that students faced in the city of East Los Angeles California.
This movie is based on the true story of a mathematics teacher who motivated high school students
at Garfield High School to learn about calculus. Additionally, this filmwill identify the context,
norms, values, language, gender roles and the social structures of the movie.
In this film, Garfield high school is located in a poor neighborhood in East Los Angeles. The
movie portrayed this neighborhood as a location that was surrounded by violence, fights, and
crimes. Every night it was very common for the residents living in this neighborhood to witness
fights among gang members, and hear shootings and ambulance sirens. The majority of people who
lived in this neighborhood were Hispanic and Latino. They also lived ... Show more content on

In the Hispanic and Latino family households, the importance of education was not well
emphasized. Many Hispanic parents disagreed in allowing their female daughters to graduate
high school and pursue a higher education. Parents believed that their daughters were not allowed
to pursue an education and instead they were required to get married and take care of the house
and complete chores. As a result, the female students believed that completing an education was
not important because their role was to get married at a young age and learn how to raise a
household. Similarly, male students were expected to work and provide income for their families.
For many male students, their role was to work hard at their jobs in order to help their parents pay

Physiognomies In Nudgee Beach Zonation
Zonation is the distribution of animals and plants into specific zones according to abiotic factors
and characterised by its dominant species [15]. Mangrove zonation is the distinguishable
categorisation of a mangrove ecosystem that extends from shore to inland regions. Definitive spatial
variation of mangrovespecies has been recognised amongst different ecosystems worldwide and is
accredited as being influenced by abiotic and environmental factors [16]. In Eastern Australia, the
majority of mangrove forests may be divided into landward, middle and seaward zones, based off
of their placement in relation to tidal position. The following points represent the typical
physiognomies characterised by mangroves in their corresponding zones:

At Nudgee Beach, erosion was found to have occurred on the edges of the mangrove forest and
along the mudflat shorelines. Erosion is typically influenced by natural factors and occurs when
pieces of weathered rock or soil are moved typically by wind and water from one place to
another. Shorelines with lots of sediment and sand are more inclined to be effected by erosional
progression. Erosion may also be provoked and accelerated by human interference. For example,
if the decision to clear trees and plants from an area is made, erosion is likely to occur as the root
systems of plants work to hold the soil in place. If these root systems are removed and erosion
does occur, environmental conditions such as; landslides and flooding are more likely to take
place. Erosion may also cause other plants to tip over, have their underground roots exposed and
damaged and contribute to the pollution of local waters; as a result of mud and soil runoff [26].
Erosion at Nudgee Beach was likely to have been influenced by natural factors; however, the
development and extension of the Kedron Brook golfing course may contribute to the acceleration
of erosional processes and further damage the mangrove

In reality baseball is so much more than that. The movies Bull Durham, The Natural, and Field of Dreams exemplify the metaphysical meaning of sport. Baseball is a metaphor for the American wayof life; it unites people. It can even bring back the dead. The lessons learned in baseballilluminate the core tenants of American society. Even though he does not get to achieve his dream of being a major leaguer he adapts and makes the most of his situation. By all measures he fails in almost every aspect of becoming a major leaguer, but in the end he is happy and is doing what he loves. This is a key to the American lifestyle. As he said when he talked to us, he did not put his head down and pout rather he learned from his failure and used it to help him in the future. This is analogous to what Crash ultimately decides to do. This ability to adapt is also exemplified by Roy Hobbs. I am writing you, the representatives for Equal Rights to discuss an urgent concern of American women in the workplace. Although gender inequality is decreasing, it still exists and makes a lot of people suffer its consequences every day. Caucasian women make about 75 cents to every dollar a caucasian man makes. Asian women make an average of 85 cents to every dollar a caucasian man makes. For black, Latina, and Native women, that number is significantly lower. On average, Latina and black women who are low wage earners and work full time live below the poverty line. That number is more than double from latina and black women. It will take years for the gap to be resolved. In the U.S the gender wage gap is lower than it is in any country although there has not being improvements since the 1990s. DNA and histones co exist as a closely associated and highly coiled structure. The purpose of such a structural organization is to compact DNA; which would otherwise be too long to be accommodated within the restricted boundaries of a single cell. Core histones (H2A, H2B, H3 and H4) and Linker histones (H1) are the two types that this unique proteinis composed of. These Core histone exhibit a structured organization with H2A and H2B forming dimers and H3 and H4 forming tetramers. Along with approximately 146 base pairs of DNA, these core histones form a heterotypic nucleosome complex; weighing about 206... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since this is the only part of the histone protein which exists in an uncoiled state, it is subjected to far more modifications than the core proteins. Structurally, the H1 proteins exhibits a much longer C terminal domain as compared to its N terminal domain surrounding a highly conserved central globular domain. This C terminal domain is arranged as a ОІ hairpin motif associated with three О± helices. The C terminal is lined with Lysine residues with alternating Alanine residues. The amino acid constitution of the N and C terminals of this linker histone is detrimental for chromatin folding. The N terminal region is composed of hydrophobic residues and the globular domain is made up of mostly basic amino acids; however the exact composition still remains to be characterized. Research has revealed the C terminal domain by itself is able to bring about an efficient amount of chromatin fiber folding as the native H1 protein. Phosphorylation of this linker histone protein is the most studied post translational modification. • 5. The Importance Of Character Development In Anthem Character development is essential in a character driven literature, where the plot focuses not on the events themselves, but actually on the characters motivations throughout their story. This literary device is utilized step by step in order to focus and clarify the crucial aspects about the character in a story. The stories that move us most, the ones that will be trapped inside our minds years later, are those inhabited by characters the reader can connect with on a deep emotional level. No one character can grasp in a story what they need to learn in order to give in or overcome their own limitations and flaws without first undergoing rigorous life experiences. The bumpy path of individual growth and development a certain character undergoes ultimately stares at a crossroad. Imperfections, traits and vices make a character more genuine and interesting, making them grow as a person. Equality 7 2521 s development as a character throughout Anthem can be seen as a progressive move towards the distinctive way of thinking he discovers and presents in the final chapters of the novel. It s an egoistic way of thinking, because it asserts that the only goal of any individual human being should be to pursue his own happiness, and not to subordinate his happiness to the service of others. Equality 7 2521 begins Anthem with a declaration of his sins, indicating the degree to which his society has influenced the development of his thoughts. There is quite a shift from the way ... He did numerous things throughout his life that were persuasive to the administration. He did as well as could be expected to end all racial isolation. He had worked inside the Supreme Court to end the enduring legacy of subjection in the nation. He additionally worked for the benefit of American culture (Haddock). He was the considerable grandson of a slave who was conceived in the advanced Democratic Republic of the Congo; his granddad was likewise a slave. • 7. Synonymous Parallelism Tip number one was to watch for things that are repeated. If you run across something that is repeated, it means that it was very important. You will find these types of things all throughout the bible, but the challenge is to see what other do not see. We learned in class that a good bible study is the art of seeing the obvious. Repeated phrases or words are an indication that we should stop and take a second look, maybe even pull that section apart and research it more in depth. Another tip we learned was that we should be looking for people or specific names. When the bible talks about Abraham I the New Testament, we would want to study the history of Abraham and his linage and the historical beginning of Israel. This tip is challenging you to research the bible and you will find how from beginning to end it is all tied together, there is a plan, a direction, a hope all throughout the pages. Beginning with the literary context to the different themes; which happened to be one of my favorites, the class was informative and instructive. I have found that journaling what I am reading about has come to a new level. For example, I have been reading the book of Job and for each chapter I am breaking down what is happening, and putting it more as a bullet point process rather than a writing out every detail process. I have found that it actually helps me remember what was said in each chapter, and that it is easier to repeat back what I have read. My next step is to break it down even more to the knowing what audience it was for, and what were the key things that I can pull from the book and any themes it may have. And although I did not get to read the text book word for word, I am going to enjoy going back and studying it more in dept. This was a great class and I greatly enjoyed ... This Compare and Contrast essay states the differences and similarities of both. Including; Settings, clothes, origins and the modifications Disney made to the original tale. The fairytale was originally based upon Sir James M. Barrie s 1904 play about the boy who refuses to grow up, the film begins in the London nursery of Wendy, John, and Michael Darling, where three children are visited by Peter Pan. With the help of his tiny friend, Tinkerbell, Peter takes the three children on a magical flight to Never Land. This enchanted island is home to Peter, Tink, the Lost Boys, Tiger Lily and her Native American nation, and the scheming Captain Hook who is as intent on defeating Peter Pan as he is from escaping the tick tocking crocodile that once ate a hand of his that Peter Pan cut off and loved the taste of so much. Clothes wise, the fairytale s wardrobe is very different to Disneys film. In the original tale, Barrie never described Peter s appearance in detail, even in the novel Peter and Wendy, leaving much of it to the imagination of the reader and the interpretation of anyone adapting the character. In the play, Peter s outfit is made of autumn leaves and cobwebs. And in the movie, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The play contains numerous examples of schemes that are used to manipulate the thoughts of other characters; it is the major theme that resonates throughout the play. Ironically, it is one of these themes that bring serenity to the chaos that encompasses most of the play. amp;#9;The first example of deception we see is with the characters of Beatrice and Benedick. Hero and Ursula do their parts to trick Beatrice into falling in love with Benedick. They speak highly of Benedick and amp;quot;praise him more than ever man did merit amp;quot; (3.3.19). In her eavesdropping and overhearing she falls for the bait, as did Benedick. In Beatrice s soliloquy she discloses her thoughts of Benedick s false affectations towards her. I cannot salute the flag. I know that I am a black man in a white world (McKirdy). At first glance, this quote seems to be something that would have been said by the San Francisco 49ers Quarterback, Colin Kaepernick, in light of his recent protests, as well as other sports players who decided to follow suit, to the playing of the national anthem before football games. However, this is not the case. The above quote was written in the 1972 autobiography, I Never Had it Made, written by Jackie Robinson, an African American Baseball player (McKirdy). Colin Kaepernick obviously felt the same as Jackie Robinson did when he sat on the bench rather than standing during a rendition of the national anthem before a preseason game against the Green Bay Packers on August 26. During an interview with the media following the game, Kaepernick explained why he refused to stand for the anthem, I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color. Dickens had an advantage when writing this story as there were similarities between himself and some of the characters; since he had been involved in a train accident himself. (D) This statement, delivered at a time when Blacks and whites have separate water fountains(J), almost one hundred and forty Black people were lynched(C), and forty five to sixty percent of Blacks over the age of nine are illiterate(B), directly condemns the blunt complaining with which Du Bois is aligning himself. The way for a people to gain respect is not by continually belittling and ridiculing themselves; that, on the contrary, Negroes must insist continually, in season and out of season (E) as written by Du Bois seems to be a direct response to the 1895 infamous address of Washington. • 21. Sophocles Tragic Demise Of Oedipus Rex A dispute that still storms today is whether we have free will, or if forces outside of human control, fate, decides our future. The same argument pertains to Oedipus Rex. The question raised is whether Oedipus caused his downfall due to his hamartia, his bad actions, or if it was simply fate, that the gods predetermined his life course. Sophocles expresses irony in his play to help the audience cognize the play and give them a better outlook on the reason Oedipusand his family brought about their tribulation and blamed fate for it. Due to Hubris, and the inadequate actions Oedipus makes in desperately preventing what was prophesied, the result led to his and his family s tragic demise. It is understandable that many conclude Oedipus Rex is based on fate because of the perceived unavoidability of the prophecy. The prophecy of the child of Laius was that he was to kill his father and marry his mother. In the beginning of the play Laius was told of this prophecy and did not accept what was foretold of his future. From that day forward, he did everything in his power to prevent the prophecy from accomplishing. Even though the servants cleared the table, they still sat for some time finishing their glasses of wine and talking about this and that, nothing of real concern. Relieved that no one had commented on his late arrival, he yawned, only then realizing how truly tired he had become and excused himself and retired to his room, finding a bath drawn with clean towels and the bedding changed. He truly appreciated his service staff at that moment. Stripping off his clothes, he stepped into the bathtub, but took only the time to bathe himself because the bed was so appealing. Having scrubbed off all the dirt from the day, he stepped out, dried himself with the towels left by the servant, dressed in his bed attire, and plopped his tired body into bed. When his head hit the pillow, he was fast asleep. The next morning, Nightburn awoke, eager to find the hidden room, he had read about in his father s journal, and dressed quickly. The Effects Of Tolerance On Schools And Schools Policies, at micro, mezzo, and macro levels, affect our schools and students every day and constitute the foundation of educational standards in North American schools; to say that students are unaffected on a micro level would be dismissive, ignorant, and narrow minded. Additionally, disregarding existing policies and practices in educational institutions and their potential interactions and effects with new policies and practices would be a grievous oversight in the decision making process. Zero tolerance in schools was initially defined as consistently enforced suspension and expulsion policies in response to weapons, drugs and violent acts in the school setting (NASP, 2001); if anything, maintaining the safety or well being of its students is a responsibility of the school and school district and a honorable goal to set. However, these policies have been broadened to include any rule infraction, more or less, regardless of mistakes, ignorance, or extenuating circumstances. With a broad policy like zero tolerance in schools comes a broad range of intended and unintended consequences; these consequences can be positive, negative, and possibly even affect the policy s actual or perceived effectiveness. Sartre As stated by Sartre, man has the choice to make all of their decisions freely, but are still condemned to be free, because we were thrust upon this earth without any choice and forced to exist. Since everyone was placed on this earth without our choosing, we still have to choose and act freely from any type of situation we may end up in. Because of that, every choicewe make and the resulting circumstance that may come with it is the result of us being free and having those choices to make. The choice to have a choice is really the only thing we cannot choose. Even though we may believe that the consequence of our action could be blamed on someone other than us, it always ends up being up to us, whether we want it to or not. This specific view that Sartre has on the responsibility of our actions being on ourselves conflicts with the Catholic philosophy. Sartre says that our reasons for picking one action over another being what God wanted for us or that it was in someone s nature to do so are false. To him, it is our responsibility. As we live our lives and go through the experiences that we do, we must create our own meaning. To him, that is the meaning of existence. We are the ones who are held responsible for our destiny and how we live our lives and shape ourselves is all derived from what we make of ourselves. • 41. Explain Why Political Leaders Ignore Intelligence Warnings Why Do Political Leaders Ignore Intelligence Warnings? Political leaders ignore intelligence warnings based on several motives. These motives range from cognitive biases and mindsets that create unrealistic expectation of intelligence and non acknowledgement of relevant intelligence, to plausible deniability, and the creation of opacity. Both plausible deniability and opacity are significant motivations, as it takes a conscious action to ignore intelligence warnings, while mindsets are an unconscious motivation. However, mindsets and cognitive biases play a more significant role in a political leader s decision to ignore intelligence warnings. Mindsets, in psychological terms, define a person s mental lens on how they understand their world. These mental perceptions, or biases, refer to the unconscious influence of a person s belief system and the simple strategies they use, to make sense of the world they live in.
