This is a 25 minute session on the business value of social software. The recording is from a session given in Eindhoven, Netherlands on 30 March 2011.
The world is constantly changing at a rapid pace. The impact of these global changes are impacting all facets of the workplace. People, technology and infrastructure are organically changing. Changes include how we communicate, the design of our physical office spaces, where we decide to work from, business tools, technology, social media technology, organizational structure and hierarchy, work/life blending, role of job satisfaction, information access and the generational make-up of our workforces. How organizations manage these interconnected workplace changes will impact their ability to engage their employees.
The key drivers of employee engagement are, always knowing what employees are thinking, intentional creation of a desired culture, recognition and value, open and transparent communication + strong leadership, career pathing and opportunities, social good and positive and real employer branding.
Changing workplaces require a change in how we conduct our day-to-day business. Social Technology is how we successfully and effectively deal with these changes. Social collaboration, social learning, social recognition, access to real-time and useful data, social recruitment and strategic employer branding. Integration of the right social technology tools will positively impact employee engagement. People are social beings, and social technology allows, enables and promotes people to be social in the workplace.
This presentation was delivered on Friday, January 10, 2014 to the delegates who competed at the 9th Annual Organizational Behaviour Case Competition at Ryerson University in Toronto. 10 Canadian business schools attended and competed. This session was meant to inspire, educate and help delegates infuse creative ideas in their presentations the following day.
There are amazing facts and benefits from implementing an Enterprise Social Networking solution. Increased efficiency, higher rate of collaboration, and organization of internal communication are just a couple found through ESN.
Internal social networks are replacing email and intranets in more and more organisations. But let’s face it, rolling out an enterprise social network within your organisation can be an uphill struggle. In this info-graphic series Business Goes Social looks at key reasons why ESN's fail, and offers some helpful tips on how to develop them.
In this slideshow, I discuss the impact and significance of digital technologies in the workplace, and how I believe they have made it harder to establish and maintain a rewarding career in today's workplace.
Compelling story-telling is essential to social success. Stories are memorable, compelling and, of course, sharable. This presentation will review why story telling is critical for brands today, what makes a great storyteller, as well as thoughts on emerging knowledge on behavioural economics. Story telling is helping organizations and brands gain social traction.

Getting people to share your content is more crucial than ever. But how do we increase the chance that our content will hit the sharing sweet spot? For my talk at Social Media Day I developed this pragmatic framework.

Presentation for an Acando seminar about social intranets explaining how the traditional corporate intranet will need to be transformed into a platform that provides the opportunity for wide participation by most or all employees in order to deal with the business challenges most organizations are facing.
Making a business case for an internal social network can be a challenge. This presentation is for people working in internal communications who want to convince their senior executives that an enterprise social network is not about being social - it's about making your organisation more responsive to a changing business environment (by helping employees collaborate and communicate more effectively and facilitating innovation).
In the end it's about making your organisation more productive.

Employee engagement is a huge issue. Disengaged employees cost companies real money in low productivity, high turnover, sick leaves etc. The roots for disengagement go deep in the organisational culture - this means random engagement initiatives have very little effect. They don't permanently address the key drivers of human motivation: the need for autonomy, mastery and purpose (see Daniel Pink's book Drive for more information on this).
While enterprise social networks can't obviously solve all of these, they do offer a surprisingly simple way for people to take ownership of their work and feel more autonomous when the email based communication hierarchy is replaced by a flat, network based communication infrastructure.

Enterprise Social Media: 5 Emerging TrendsLuis Benitez
From SXSW 2012 -- Social media has gone mainstream! But it's not everywhere yet. In this session, we'll focus on the five emerging trends on how enterprises are leveraging social media. Patterns have emerged among social businesses and we'll review how organizations are leveraging these new capabilities to deliver bottom-line results. Specifically, in this session we will look into the technologies that enable organizations to generate new ideas, accelerate innovation, increase customer satisfaction, increase productivity, and gain a competitive edge. Presented by @Lbenitez & @heidi_ambler .
Businesses must engage their employees and their customers to build loyalty, deepen relationships and gain access to insights that inspire future actions and drive profits, but how? How do you rise above the noise to deliver a compelling and differentiated customer experience that will help you not only survive, but thrive. This is not just about building great products or providing great customer support, but how to transform your business to earn the trust needed to fully serve your market - internally and externally

Altimeter Report: Making The Business Case For Enterprise Social NetworkingCharlene Li
In 2011, the US hit a milestone — more than half of all adults visit social networking sites at least once a month. But when it comes to using social-networking technologies inside organizations, many business leaders are at a loss to understand what value can be created from Facebook-like status updates within the enterprise. Some organizations have deployed social-networking features with an initial enthusiastic reception, only to see these early efforts wither to just a few stalwart participants. The problem: Most companies approach enterprise social networks as a technology deployment and fail to understand that the new relationships created by enterprise social networks are the source for value creation. In this first of two reports, Altimeter looks at four ways enterprise social networks create value for organizations.

What a Corporate Storyteller looks like and why you should care. This "proposal" was built after more than a decade of service as Chief Storyteller at IBM. The one thing that can beat a great product is a better story. This describes how a company might go about considering the hiring, or at a minimum, investing in the consultation of a seasoned Corporate Storyteller. For you to be remain successful and grow, your past journeys need to be combined with new visionary journeys and stories that captivate mindshare and market share. To do that they need to be shared in a way that motivates people to act. This is all about MOVING PEOPLE. And the best way to move people is with STORY!
An example of a corporate presentation where the speaker's notes are not "what to say" but rather "why you're saying it". This is an example of how storytelling can be incorporated into organizational presentation design and delivery.
Top ten suggestions for corporate communicators. These have come from three decades of in the field, corporate storytelling to audiences that range from event halls to board rooms. I'll be posting a video of this being shared on my YouTube channel.
It's not a matter of just finding answers. We need to learn how to ask better questions. Add that to Cognitive Computing like IBM Watson and you have a way to help humans make better decisions. A human plus a machine is better than a human or a machine.

Story Matters - You use stories every day to communicate ideas and events in your personal life. But for some reason, when you walk through the doors of your office or open your business email application, you avoid your natural storytelling DNA. In today's market you need to be interesting and relevant and stories are the way to get there.
Thinking, like fire, happens when certain things are present. This is a short intro into how social smarter cognitive systems can help us think...and solve problems

While we often look for the obvious ROI candidates, let's look at where and how Social Business behaviors and technologies can really bring long lasting benefit.
Two significant forces are converging: Technology & Culture. But unlike our past, this time culture is driving the technology. We are faced with chaos, confusion, complexity and crowds in our working lives. Yet at the same time, IBM Verse, IBM Connections, IBM Cognitive and IBM Smarter Work are emerging to offer the clarity, connection, context and concert we need. (This presentation was first given at the New Way To Work Tour event in Chicago. I just presented this to the Social Business Forum in Milan and will be sharing it with the 9 other cities in the New Way To Work Tour this fall.)
Being provocative in your sales efforts is not about being right or even being different. In fact, it's not about you at all. The reason you want to be provocative is to help your client think...help them discover the root of their pain. It shows you care.

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!
