Concept Analysis On Pain And Pain
Concept Analysis on Pain
Introduction
Pain is one of the most common challenging complains by patients. Pain in general is a very
uncomfortable feeling. Studies have shown that pain can affect the quality of life of individuals
(Ferrel, 1995). Over 100 million Americans suffer from chronic pain. This is the kind of pain that
lasts for more then 6 months. It can be mild or excruciating pain (Ratini, 2014). Nurse researchers
have spent the last 30 years trying to study pain management using both pain measurements and
outcomes of pain. Some studies have even shown that pain is not completely controlled even with
pharmacological agents (Wells, Pasero, McCaffery, 2008). Pain that is not managed adequately can
lead to adverse physical and psychological patient outcomes, for patients and their families (Wells,
Pasero, McCaffery, 2008).
Background
A person encompasses various types of pain throughout their life cycle, from birth to the end of
life. Pain experiences may include acute and chronic pain, pain from chronic conditions, or pain as
a symptom of a patient receiving palliative care. Pain is not just physiological but can be emotional,
psychosocial, or even spiritual. Due to the multiple advances in pain management. Nurses can have
inadequate information about pain management (Board of Nursing, 2001). Pain management is a
vital part of nursing. It is part is the 5th vital sign that nurses assess when they take their vital signs.
Pain management is one of the most

The Contribution Of The Civil Rights Movement
Many people are honored for their leadership, impact, legacy, achievements and hospitality. At
Columbus State University, there are multiple people that should be considered for an honor. Mary
Blackmon started women s athletics at CSU. Frank Brown , former president at CSU, transformed
CSU from a commuter college into the massive university it is today. Thomas Whitley was the
founding president at CSU. Carson McCullers was a well known author in Columbus. All these
people did something great for CSU. However, I believe John Townsend, the first African American
student at CSU, is the one who deserves a statue .
The Civil Rights movement was an incredible time in our history to see a drastic change in society.
The movement pushed laws to end racial segregation and discrimination , causing schools to be
integrated. Because of that movement, it allowed John Townsend to be the first African American
to enter what is now called Columbus State University. Being an African American myself, if it
wasn t for him being the first African American at Columbus State University, I wouldn t be able to
attend here today.
In my criteria of legacy and impact, John Townsend scored highest in both categories. An impact is
when a new idea comes and influence people from all around. A legacy is when something great
happens and remembered for generations .Because he was the first African American student at
CSU, it paved the way for a plethora of African American students to come to

A Comparison Of King Arthur In Sir Gawain And The Green...
King Arthur was an ideal person to many people during the medieval time period. He was brave,
fair, fearless, supernatural, and honorable. These characteristics made King Arthur a legendary
person. Many stories of the King Arthur legend exist today. These stories have many similarities
and differences such as in Morte d Arthur and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. In both stories, the
author s use the code of chivalry and fantasy, but one author decides to let King Arthurdie and the
other does not. In the stories Morte d Arthur and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, the use of the
code of chivalry is used on the knights Lancelot and Sir Gawain. In Morte d Arthur, Lancelot
breaks the code of chivalry because he is not honest when King Arthur... Show more content on

In Morte d Arthur, fantasy is used when a hand comes out of the water after Lancelot throws the
sword into the water. This is a fantasy because hands do not miraculously appear from the water.
Another fantasy is used in the story at the end when it says that King Arthur may or may not be
dead. This is a fantasy because King Arthur s son killed him when he hit Arthur in the head,
meaning that King Arthur is obviously dead. While in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight fantasy
is used because a person cannot be green, people are different shades of brown. Also, another
fantasy used in the story is when the Green Knight has his head blown off, but he still survives.
This is a fantasy because he should have died after Sir Gawain blew his head off.
However, there is a difference in the stories because, in Morte d Arthur, King Arthur dies. King
Arthur dies because his son and he are enemies. His son is after the power that he deserves as the
son of a king. So, he decides to kill King Arthur to have power, but he also dies along with Arthur.
While in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight King Arthur does not die. He does not die because Sir
Gawain is the one to accept the Green Knight s challenge of cutting each other s neck

Experiential Learning
CHAPTER I THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND Introduction Knowledge results from the
combination of grasping (observation) and transforming reflections into action (concrete
experience) (Kolb, 1894). Nursing is a practice profession. Clinical experience in the clinical setting
is the integral part of the total education process for nursing students. (Estrella Cuarezma Sanchez,
1998) The clinical exposure of a student nurse is an experience that is not to be taken for granted. It
is as important (if not more so) than the classroom lectures. In the field, the student nurse is allowed
to experience dealing with actual patients and witnessing medical cases first hand. That is the
reason why it is imperative that the student nurse make the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Sheth (2008) sighted that private hospitals possesses centralized care. Therefore, student nurses are
exposed to a conducive learning brought by ideal nursing practice exhibited in the health care
setting. In the said type of hospital, Colladilla and Argos (2000) claimed more opportunities
available both professionally and personally for its staff. Thus, student nurses in return could profit
from it. Also, these hospitals are equipped with well maintained facilities, highly technologic
equipment and complete medical supplies. (Johns, 2000) Thus, familiarization begins and would
further evolve to learning. Adequate manpower plus limited handled patients could provide a
centralized care. However, there are also disadvantages. Limited assignments are given to student
nurses because they make sure they give quality care to patients due to patient s payment for
services rendered. There are strict norms associated with providing health care interventions.
Herewith, staffs nurses have significant liability to their patients. They can not afford to make
mistakes. That is why, unlike in public hospitals, students learn more through observation of the
different procedures done in the hospital. Public hospital provides culturally competent care
(Vaknin, 2008). In public hospitals, student nurses learn from actual experience. They can assume

Pros And Cons Of Weatherproofing Your Deck
Tips for Weatherproofing Your Deck in the Winter
Your deck is a beautiful piece of hard work. It is the center piece of your landscaping in all
actuality, that was forged with your blood, sweat, and tears. With all the effort you put into it, why
would you allow its splendor be tarnished by a little thing like the cold weather you experience in
the harshest months that accompany the winter season? Well, you won t allow such a thing to
happen, right? But how does one go about protecting their deck during the unpredictable months of
winter?
Below is a list of tips so that you can ensure your deck will not be ruined during the winter. They
will allow you to enjoy your deck in pristine condition once spring again has come to the land.

But, a tale of caution when shoveling snow off your beloved deck, be careful! Certain types of
shovels may be extremely damaging to your deck. Avoid using shovels with metal issues, as
they run the risk of puncturing the vinyl membrane of your deck. If a puncture occurs, then it is
possible that moisture can penetrate into the structure of your deck. This can lead to damage
that, where reparable, will be a very expensive and difficult fix. To avoid such a tragedy from
occurring, try to use snow shovels that are made out of a less harsh material, such as plastic.
You can also easily damage a deck if you handle your shovel too aggressively or with to much
power. When shoveling snow, even with a plastic shovel, do so effectively, but be mindful of the
force you are using so you don t cause damage. Your deck will thank you for

materials. The ground rules are opportunity for the child to develop his/her will. The teacher
observes for pattern of order in the behavior of the child. The teacher observes for respect child to
child, child to material, child to adult interaction.
Control of Error: is the built in aspect of the material also sometime found as coding on the back of
the material.
For Example, in spindle box the extra or not enough spindle left is control of error. The material like
matching numeral to number rods, teacher is the control of error. Prepare of the environment: A
prepared environment is an important role of Montessori classroom .the goal of prepared
environment is to make children safe and comfortable. A calm and orderly space enables the
children to work on various activities of their choice at a pace they are comfortable with. They
also experience a mix of freedom and self discipline in space that is designed to meet their
development needs.
A teacher observes the child working with the materials and make changes to the environment. In
mathematic materials, extensions and additional problems are introduced to deepen child s
understanding of materials. For example, variations introduced when child is ready with basic
concepts of a particular material to support child needs.

Cultural Trends In Fashion
Trends in the fashion world are greatly influenced by social cultural changes. Social change deals
with any big change over time in behavior patterns and in cultural values. Fashion and clothing is
more than just what we wear but the way we choose to live our lives which relates back to culture.
There are three key sources in trends for fashion, high culture, pop culture, and low culture. High
cultureis mainly about the visual kinds of art. Visual arts can range anywhere from paintings to
architecture and design. A designer is able to take note on a piece of art that inspires him or her
to incorporate into their clothing designs. Pop culture is highly influenced by celebrities who
spend most of their everyday lives in the mainstream. Pop culture influences the way we look.
For example, TV shows that dress the cast very fashionably such as the show, that was popular in
the 80 s Dynasty to the 90 s into the year 2004 the show Sex in the City, everyone wanted to dress
like the protagonist in those popular TV series. Subculture is local street movements such as hip
hop and graffiti. Subculture is mainly seen in surf and skateboard culture from the 70 s up until
today.
If culture can influence the paintings we paint and the clothes that we wear, then it certainly does
have an impact on the poems we write. Poetry is an art form in which human language is used for
its aesthetic qualities. Poems are often written based on something a poem has dealt with or has
overcome in their

Factors Caused By Recreational Scuba Diving And Snorkeling...
Globally, marine ecosystems, in particular, coral reefs, are experiencing increasing pressure due
to the growth in recreational scuba diving, and snorkeling. Pressure refers to the frequency, and
quantity of divers, and dive boats on any particular reef. This pressure often results in damage to
the reef, and is caused by divers, snorkelers, and even dive boat anchors, and anchor lines,
furthermore, this damage takes significant time to repair, due to the rate at which coral grows, and
repairs itself. Although this damage is not irreparable, continual pressure by recreational dive and
snorkeling industries, can lead to damage beyond the reef s ability to recover. Damaged reefs result
in loss of sea life, vibrancy, and color, the primary draw for divers, snorkelers, and other marine
enthusiasts. Consequently, this damage extends to the economies of the local communities, in
which water related activities are a primary source of revenue. To sustain these local communities
economies, and tourist enjoyment, private SCUBA organizations can coordinate, and facilitate
options to reduce the recreational damage of the ocean s reef system through education, artificial
reef attractions, and alternative dive programs.
SCUBA diving is a growing, and global recreational sport, with one certification agency, PADI,
claiming an annual average of 900,000 new diver certifications globally . Of course, not all of
these new divers will continue on to become frequent, or repeat divers, however,

Issues And Controversies Of Transgender Rights
As a young adult in a world of issues and controversies, I chose to write about a very popular
topic that recently has taken America by storm creating one of the biggest controversies of our
time; Transgender rights. In March of 2016, North Carolina passed a law requiring transgender
people to use only public restrooms and locker rooms that match the genderon their birth certificate
( TransgenderRights ). The article starts with this important fact and continues to describe the
definition of the term transgender, which is, a person who identifies themselves as a gender that is
not their assigned birth sex. It goes on to discuss the controversy in a whole, an example being
those celebrities and public officials who have taken a stand against discrimination of the (LGBT)
community. This article also discusses the recent issues and... Show more content on

the side of those who support laws to protect the rights of transgenders and those who oppose those
same laws, giving the audience plenty of insight into both sides of the issue. Lastly, the article
concludes with how the transgender community faces everyday challenges that are sure to continue

popular topic to summarize it but also to give my opinions on the issue of transgender rights. To

Analysis Of Ralph Waldo Emerson s Self Reliance
Ralph Waldo Emerson, a loyal follower of transcendentalism and writer of several debatable essays,
supports the idea of one following his or her own conscience instead of the restrictions of society s
mind. Transcendentalism, an American philosophical movement, takes place in the Nineteenth
Century in which transcendentalists break free from the chains bounding them to the repetition of
thoughtand action. In his essay, Self Reliance, he asserts the importance of independent thinking,
gives clear and concise examples of independent thinkers, and trusting oneself. I agree with Emerson
s emphasis on thinking with initiative in Self Reliance when he conveys the importance of
nonconformity because independent self trust advances society. Emerson believes that fear of
others misunderstanding holds one back from thinking with without consistency. The general
public has no other data for computing other than past acts (Emerson 3). The comparison of
thinking to computing implies the act of thinking as a rote activity without change. Although
looking upon past acts may help better plan for the future, Emerson infers that these people look on
these past acts only to repeat them without modification. Emerson further warns, a foolish
consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds (3). Regarding consistency as foolish and the negative
connotation it carries conveys his strong opinion against it. A hobgoblin causes superstitious fear,
while at the same time this

Book Report On The Future Of The Internet
Book Report of The Future of the Internet and How to Stop It
In the computer and technology book The Future of the Internet and How to Stop It , the author
Jonathan L. Zittrain (2008, April 20) wants to alarm us that the internet world which we think is
totally open and ruled by the users all over the world is actually controlled by some particular big
companies and institutions. The openness and creativity of the Internet is a double edged sword.
Under the cover of a bloomed and wonderful development, today s environment of the Internet is in
danger. He suggests that more efficient methods and stricter requirements should be carried out to
standardize the industry of the Internet.
Mr. Zittrain writes the book in the way that associating today s problems of the Internet with the
history of the computer field. Firstly, the author shows the development of personal computer and
the Internet in a unique way. He analyses the reasons of the success of the Microsoft company and
the iPhone. Then he explains many of our current technical barriers and bottlenecks using the
theory of generative and sterile. By using the examples like Wikipedia, Zittrain cleverly introduces
us the obstacles that may be encountered in the development of the Internet in the future and many
ethical issues such as network security and privacy. Focusing on these issues, the author voices his
concerns and gives some feasible suggestions.

Inflammatory Bowel Disease Analysis
Abstract
Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) are group of disorders that cause chronic inflammation in the
intestinal mucosa and transmural. IBD is divided into two main categories Crohn s disease (CD)
and ulcerative colitis (UC). While there is no known cure for IBD, current therapies can only reduce
the inflammation that triggers the signs and symptoms and induce long term remission. Therefore,
better treatment modalities for the complex IBD are still evolving. The increased understanding of
the underlying immunopathology has helped identify new targeted treatment options using stem

The Text Lessons For Women
The text Lessons for Women by Ban Zhao served as an advice manual for women in China until
the twentieth century. This text was meant to give advice to young women, specifically her
daughters, and guide them through life and marriage. She wrote it upon her deathbed at a time
when her daughters were ready to be married. Lessons for Women is a text that conforms to the
strict genderroles of Confucian society, within those roles it works as a tool to position women in
the best place possible and subtlety provides meaningful advice to allow women to thrive as best
they can under the gender roles of society. Lessons for Women initially seems as if it is a text that
wholly conforms to the traditional gendered roles of society. Within traditional Confucian China
women were regarded as subservient to men, [and] few women achieved distinction in their literary
pursuits and roles in government, Ban Zhao did both within her lifetime. Zhao describes herself as
an unworthy writer, [that she is] unsophisticated, unenlightened, and by nature unintelligent.
Despite her accomplishments Zhao still describes herself negatively. She states some of the gender
beliefs in China at the time by mentioning that she is by nature unintelligent. It does appear that she
is writing a text that conforms to gender roles and by default would not be substantially helpful to
young women in society. Additionally, she writes Lessons for Women for her daughters in reaction

Jon Stewart and News Distortion
Network News stations like Fox and MSNBC have distorted news information so much so that
viewers now turn to comedy central to keep current with the news. Turning to comedians for
news is not a horrible idea as long as viewers understand that comedians must also distort news in
order to entertain. Now that is not to say that comedians give out fake news; a comedian must
first understand the whole of the topic before running it through a comedic process, in which
they then begin distorting the information to attain laughter. Jon Stewart has an enormous
impact in the media. Many young viewers turn to Stewart for his take on the news. According to
Cox of Wonkette.com in an article by Kurtz Howard, The Campaign of a Comedian; Jon Stewart

politics. The way politics is talked about in the media is alienating. They re seeing Jon Stewart
as a kind of hero who will lead us out of the darkness. Stewart allows his viewers to keep current
with the news by giving sound bites, which they then could verify or explore. While many news
reporters believe Stewart to be highly controversial, the majority of young adults will watch Jon

Hooke Vs Newton
Isaac Newton struggled with receiving the proper credit for his scientific discoveries, and was
often overlooked during his time. His biggest rival was Robert Hooke, a president of the Royal
Society and renowned scientist. On occasion, Newton would disagree with Hooke s previously
published ideas, for example, Newton s claim that light was a particle. This is an example of the
beginning of their rivalry. There were many cases throughout their time where Hooke would accuse
Newton of publishing his ideas. An extreme example of this was when Hooke publically humiliated
Newton, causing Newton to go into hiding for many years to avoid the embarrassment. Eventually,
through the help of other scientists such as Halley, Newton slowly gained more credit

The Importance Of Evidence Based Practice In Nursing
Evidence based practice in nursing includes blending clinical judgment and expertise with the
best available research and patient characteristics and preference. (Treas Wilkinson,2014, p. 104)
It requires a transition from nursing care that is base on opinions, past practices, and tradition to
practice that is base on scientific research and proven evidence. (Catalano, 2015, p. 589) The
goal of evidence based practice is to improve the quality of care by identifying the most cost
efficient treatments for a particular disease. The process of evidence based includes formulating
answerable questions example would be interventions, conducting a systematic review of research,
evaluating the quality of evidence obtained, compiling and analyzing the data to prepare a
structured report review, translating the evidence into guidelines for practice, and integrating the
guidelines and evidence with clinical expertise and the patient s preference and characteristics.

Theology of Grace
Theology of Grace There are many different ways to interpret the theology of grace. In this paper,
I will be discussing four major theologians who have the most popular insights on grace. These
theologians include Augustine, Aquinas, Luther, and Rahner who all have their own unique
perspective on grace. All of their theories seem to intertwine with one another but each individual
one has a different twist that makes them slightly different. The first theologian I m going to
discuss is Augustine. Augustine was known as the Father of Grace. He believed that all human
nature is in disorder due to universal sin of Adam and Eve. According to Augustine, sin is passed
on by sexual acts, even if a married couple engaged in sexual... Show more content on

He thought that grace is forgiveness of god in which salvation comes through God. Trust of God
was expressed in God s merciful love. Luther believed that a merciful god would deliver anyone
from the evil they did. Only by the grace of God can forgiveness of sin be achieved. Even after
you are graced, you are still partly a sinner. He believed that you could not merit grace and could
not learn grace through works, it is all given. Grace is totally undeserved and only through God
s choice can you be graced. Lastly is Rahner, who was a Neo Thomist and a student of Aquinas.
Rahner believed in the supernatural existential and obediential potency meaning that as we re
born we have the ability and capacity to receive the love of God. He said that grace was God s
self communication in love. Also, grace is not an extra addition to human nature. Karl Rahner
developed a theology that views grace as the offer of God s love that is intrinsic to existent
human nature (pg. 1). He believed that you can either accept or reject the honor of grace.
According to Rahner, human beings freely choose to ratify or to reject that orientation which is
itself the free gift of a loving God, but the orientation remains structured into their being (pg. 2).
You re only free when you love. If you decide to love then you are authentic but if you decide not
to love then you are disgraced. Rahner believed that like God, we can know and can

Nurse Ratched Women
There seems to be an uncanny similarity between all the men at ward. Most of the male patients
are tormented by a woman: Brombden s wife, billy s mom, nurse ratched, Mrs. Harding. Each of
these women are intent on dominating men by emasculating them. These female characters are
demonized as ball cutters because they do not adhere to traditional female roles and they
emasculate the male characters(Kesey 54). Take the poor Billy Bibbit a 31 year old is still very
dependent on his mother, Mother, I th th thirty one years old!...She laughed and twiddled with

Another victim of masculine accusation is Nurse ratched, the head of the ward. She is often
described as a piece of machinery. Chief Bromden says, But down inside of her she s tense as
steel (28). The word steel makes one think of hard, cold machines and Nurse Ratched operates as
one. She must maintain order at all times. Nurse Ratched is able to exercise so much power in the
mental ward not only because she does not fit with traditional gender norms but because she
actively represses her femininity (). Nurse Ratched falls into the category of Iron Maiden due to
her powerful presence she is blamed for the pitiful death of Billy Bibbit(). Chief s observations
of her on the ward illustrate Nurse Ratched s domineering presence, but the readers know more
about the castration of husband and son through Chief s mother.Chief views his father s sacrifice
of his name is proof of the dominating nature of his mother. Whom is blamed for her husband s
alcolhalism and instutionlixation of her son. In reality the fate of these men is the result of their
own wrongdoing, neglect, and regret. Many critics defend the book as a stance of power and
presence, but truly it is a circle of blame on who is responsible for another s

Being Earnes
Many people have not experienced the unique work of art known as a farce. After witnessing
The Importance of Being Earnest, I have determined that a farce and a comedy can be described
as opposite to a certain extent. A farce is ordinary people in a strange situation, while a comedy
is unique people in an ordinary situation. Although not all people may see it this way, this is how
I perceived Oscar Wilde s classic which was clearly very ahead of its time. Richard Robichaux
directed this work of art at the Pavillion Theatre from April 12 23 and focused on several
particular elements/themes which build on each other in order to celebrate the comedic and
historical genius of Wilde s original work. More specifically, the play focuses on the notion of
marriageand its greater role in society, the role of visual objects such as food and how they hold a
much larger importance than they originally seem, and finally the use of puns in order to describe
and envision Victorian society and delve into what the characters are actually... Show more content

One that particularly struck me as quite obvious was the use of earnest/Ernest on multiple
occasions. This pun is quite symbolic because of the fact that it describes Victorian society norms.
Cecily and Gwendolen both aim to marry a man with the name Ernest even though she doesn t quite
understand what the meaning of the word earnest and what it holds in Victorian society. Earnest
means seriousness and respect in this society, but these are not the reasons Gwendolen wants to
marry a man with this name. It turns out that neither man was earnest or had the name Ernest,
although Gwendolen is quick to forgive. Wilde is trying to show the audience that anyone who
describes themselves as Ernest is being deceptive, but at the same time shows that the social norms
of Victorian society are described in the meaning of the

The main hallmark of an autosomal recessive trait is that both men and women have an equal
chance in acquiring the trait. 2. What does consanguineous mean? Why is this concept
especially important when discussing recessive genetic disorders? Consanguineous means
people coming from the same heritage. This is especially important when discussing recessive
genetic disorders because it could affect the chances of someone occupying the disease. 3. What
is it about the inheritance pattern of factor viii deficiency seen in Greg and Olga s pedigree that
point toward it not being an autosomal recessive trait? The trends point to factor viii not being
autosomal recessive trait because clearly it seems to be affecting males significantly more than
females. This would mean that the trait does not affect the males and females equally which
takes away from the hallmark of an autosomal recessive trait where they have equal chances. Part

His discovery opened up a new era in human history. In this paper, you would find out what he

he become a scientist.

Hahn s founding of nuclear fission had created a big change to the world both during and after the
time he lives. The tremendous implications of this discovery have led to study on possible
military developments. Fission products are produced in nuclear weapon explosions, with the
amount depending on the type of weapon. The largest source of fission products is from nuclear
reactor. Some fission products are also used in industrial inventions and innovations. For
example, some ion can react with steel surfaces to form a corrosion resistant layer. In this way, it
renders the steel surface passive. In a similar way the release of radio iodine in a serious power
reactor accident could be retarded by adsorption on metal surfaces within the nuclear plant.
Furthermore, nuclear fission also takes part in medicine areas. Currently, nuclear fission is not used
directly in medicine, however radiation, radioactive isotopes, and scanning devices (X Rays, CAT
scans e.t.c.) that use radiation are. All of these inventions and innovation would not exist without
his discovery. Therefore, I feel very thankful for his discovery and the things he have brought up to

RNA Interference in Biotechnology and Pharmacetics Essay
Almost all biology students learn the fundamentals of gene expression, DNA contains information
which is transcribed into RNA to create protein. Students however, are not taught of RNA
Interference, the biological process where RNA molecules inhibit a gene s expression, RNAi for
short. While RNAi is a fairly new discovery, its use in modern biological research is
groundbreaking. RNAInterference works by binding Double stranded RNA molecules (siRNA) to a
complementary messenger RNA. The enzymes Dicer and Slicer then cleave the chemical bonds
which hold the messeger RNA in place and prevent it from delivering protein silencing instructions
thus, the term, Gene Silencing. This phenomenon was first discovered by Richard Jorgensen in

Sanofi plans on using antibodies to target PCSK9 which could lead to an alternative to the
commonly used statins drug. Out of the 32 patients in the most recent trial, 24 received a single

average, 70% and a 40% decrease of LDL cholesterol levels. If the PCSK9 inhibition drug deems
successful it is still not sure whether the drug will perform well from a business aspect.
Another application of RNAi is in Parkinson s disease. Researchers at the National Institutes of
Health have successfully used RNA Interference to uncover several genes which possibly represent
new therapeutic targets for treating Parkinson s disease. These discoveries may also be useful to
other diseases cause by damage to the mitochondria. Researcher Richard Youle explains, we
discovered a network of genes that may regulate the disposal of dysfunctional mitochondria,
opening the door to new drug targets for Parkinson s disease and other disorders (http:/

Essay on Woodrow Wilson
Woodrow Wilson
Woodrow Wilson, 28th president of the United States (1913 21), secured a legislative program of
progressive domestic reform, guided his country during WORLD WAR I, and sought a peace
settlement based on high moral principles, to be guaranteed by the LEAGUE OF NATIONS.
Early Life and Career
Thomas Woodrow Wilson was born in Staunton, Va., on Dec. 28, 1856. He was profoundly
influenced by a devoutly religious household headed by his father, Joseph Ruggles Wilson, a
Presbyterian minister, and his mother,
Janet Woodrow Wilson, the daughter of a minister. Woodrow (he dropped the

Opposed by wealthy alumni and trustees, he also lost his battle for control of the proposed
graduate college. The Princeton controversies, seen nationally as a battle between democracy and
vested wealth, propelled Wilson into the political arena.
George Harvey, editor of Harper s Weekly, with help from New Jersey s
Democratic party bosses, persuaded Wilson to run for governor in 1910.
After scoring an easy victory, he cast off his machine sponsors and launched a remarkable program
of progressive legislation, including a direct primary law, antitrust laws, a corrupt practices act, a
workmen s compensation act, and measures establishing a public utility commission and permitting
cities to adopt the commission form of government.
Success in New Jersey made him a contender for the Democratic presidential nomination. Although
Wilson entered the 1912 Democratic
National Convention a poor second to Speaker of the House Champ Clark, his strength increased
as Clark s faded, and he won the nomination after 46 ballots. Offering a program of reform that he
called the New Freedom,
Wilson ran against a divided Republican party. In November, with only 42 percent of the popular
vote, he won 435 electoral votes to 88 for
Progressive candidate Theodore Roosevelt and 8 for the Republican candidate,
President William Howard Taft.

Western Influence On Iranian Culture
Both Iranian art and Iranian politics have undergone many drastic transformations during the 20th

power, ending the Qajar dynasty. The new Pahlavi dynasty would only last 54 years, but under Reza

Their failure to fix the aftermath of the White Revolution was especially humiliating, as the regime
had gained power through their anti Shah rhetoric. President Ali Rafsanjani, the fourth president,
tried to ameliorate the economic struggles by removing or lowering barriers which restricted
foreign involvement in the Iranian market. He also opened up the existing universities and allowed
more private universities to be established. However, the US economic sanctions against Iran were
the toughest during his presidency. In May 1995, President Clinton issued an executive order
banning all US Iran trade. Rafsanjani s successor, President Mohammad Khatami, continued the
trend of opening Iran to the international scene again. In his inaugural speech, he advocated for
greater freedom of speech and freedom to criticize the government. He also worked on renewing
relationships with western countries. He visited Italy and France. Under his government, Iran had
growing commercial and diplomatic ties with Europe, and the US government eased its economic
sanctions against Iran. However, the economy was still in crisis under Khatami. Too many people
were entering the workforce, with not enough jobs to support them. A sense of pessimism and

Benjamin Franklin s Virtues To Create A Perfect Moral Society
One of Benjamin Franklin s goals in life was to create a perfectly moral society. Is there even
such a thing as a perfectly moral society? How would one go about forming this unheard of
thing? Franklin observed people and used his own knowledge to form his list of thirteen virtues,
behaviors that conduct high moral standards. Could these virtues create a perfect society? In
order for Franklin s plan to work, every person must follow all thirteen of these virtues. A benefit
comes from each thing Franklin listed. One of these benefits is creating good citizens. A good
citizen is someone who respects their town, government, and fellow peers. Temperance and
moderation are good qualities to have because that means everyone can control themselves. Silence
also comes in handy because it can keep people from getting offended or hurt by another person s

Chasity is one of the few I would choose to remove. While it does show self control, I do not
believe that determines if you are a good citizen. I also believe moderation could be removed
because it is closely related with temperance. Silence is another thing that can be good at certain
times, but can also be bad at other times. Sometimes people need to speak their opinions;
otherwise, nothing would ever be changed. Everything would stay exactly the same and I don t
think they would be good for society. Cleanliness is also another virtue that does not relate to being
a good citizen. While it does have something to do with your character and appearance, it does
not affect your morals and ability to be a good citizen. These are the only revisions I would
make to Franklin s plan. I see no need for anything else to be removed or added. He covered the
basics, but in some sense he went a little overboard. Although these are good qualities to have, do

Deaths From Drunk Driving
When driving down the road two ambulance s fly by with sirens screaming, on down the road
the ambulance s stop along with three fire truck s on the side of the road surrounded by many
police officers, passing by there is a car flipped upside down with another car head on into a tree
and white drapes over top of bodies on the road, through the window there is a man there blowing
into a breathalyzer, the number comes up as .16% this man is drunk and also the the driver of the
car that s flipped. Drunk driving is the cause of this, being under the influence messes up the train
of thought of the brain and messes with eye vision and reaction time. People are going crazy
driving drunk around the world, nobody is good at drinking and driving and never will be.
Drunk Driving is a serious problem in the United States and even all around the world, this needs
to come to a stop because innocent people are losing their lives from idiots driving while under
the influence. Drinking and Driving is when someone decides to get behind the wheel of a car
after drinking too many alcoholic beverages and trying to drive home. This is a serious problem,
drinking causes the brain to lose train of thought and lower reaction time of a human which is well
needed while driving an automobile especially during the night when visibility is low. Each day

The Origin Of English Language Codification
The linguistic term codification refers to the process of standardizing and developing a norm of a
language (Revolvy, 2017). In addition, it means the methods of creation and use of the dictionary
through designing writing system and setting grammar rules. According to Einar Haugen
codification leads to minimal variation in form (Stein Tieken Boon van Ostade, n.d. 1994: p160),
therefore it reinforces a certain variety which has been selected and accepted. Even though
codification is the second stage in the standardization, it is ongoing process.
The origin of English language codification was back to the 16th century, when many of
dictionaries and grammar books had published with a view of teaching the language to Welsh
noblemen after the Act of Union between Wales and England in 1536. These dictionaries contained
a list of hard words, mostly loanwords which adopted and borrowed from other languages, or
sometimes invented. Robert Cawdery produced the first English dictionary in (1604). It lists about
3000 words, with a brief simple description for each. He aimed to codify a language, to let readers
understand hard words. (Bl.uk, 2017)
By the 18th century, scholars developed codification, due to considering it as a recognized activity.
For that authors and scholars such as John Walker and Thomas Sheridan started to write materials
so as to set down perspective norms for pronunciation and grammar. Unlike European countries
which established academies for codification,

  • 2. Concept Analysis On Pain And Pain Concept Analysis on Pain Introduction Pain is one of the most common challenging complains by patients. Pain in general is a very uncomfortable feeling. Studies have shown that pain can affect the quality of life of individuals (Ferrel, 1995). Over 100 million Americans suffer from chronic pain. This is the kind of pain that lasts for more then 6 months. It can be mild or excruciating pain (Ratini, 2014). Nurse researchers have spent the last 30 years trying to study pain management using both pain measurements and outcomes of pain. Some studies have even shown that pain is not completely controlled even with pharmacological agents (Wells, Pasero, McCaffery, 2008). Pain that is not managed adequately can lead to adverse physical and psychological patient outcomes, for patients and their families (Wells, Pasero, McCaffery, 2008). Background A person encompasses various types of pain throughout their life cycle, from birth to the end of life. Pain experiences may include acute and chronic pain, pain from chronic conditions, or pain as a symptom of a patient receiving palliative care. Pain is not just physiological but can be emotional, psychosocial, or even spiritual. Due to the multiple advances in pain management. Nurses can have inadequate information about pain management (Board of Nursing, 2001). Pain management is a vital part of nursing. • 3. The Contribution Of The Civil Rights Movement Many people are honored for their leadership, impact, legacy, achievements and hospitality. At Columbus State University, there are multiple people that should be considered for an honor. Mary Blackmon started women s athletics at CSU. Frank Brown , former president at CSU, transformed CSU from a commuter college into the massive university it is today. Thomas Whitley was the founding president at CSU. Carson McCullers was a well known author in Columbus. All these people did something great for CSU. However, I believe John Townsend, the first African American student at CSU, is the one who deserves a statue . The Civil Rights movement was an incredible time in our history to see a drastic change in society. The movement pushed laws to end racial segregation and discrimination , causing schools to be integrated. Because of that movement, it allowed John Townsend to be the first African American to enter what is now called Columbus State University. Being an African American myself, if it wasn t for him being the first African American at Columbus State University, I wouldn t be able to attend here today. In my criteria of legacy and impact, John Townsend scored highest in both categories. An impact is when a new idea comes and influence people from all around. A legacy is when something great happens and remembered for generations .Because he was the first African American student at CSU, it paved the way for a plethora of African American students to come to ... • 4. A Comparison Of King Arthur In Sir Gawain And The Green... King Arthur was an ideal person to many people during the medieval time period. He was brave, fair, fearless, supernatural, and honorable. These characteristics made King Arthur a legendary person. Many stories of the King Arthur legend exist today. These stories have many similarities and differences such as in Morte d Arthur and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. In both stories, the author s use the code of chivalry and fantasy, but one author decides to let King Arthurdie and the other does not. In the stories Morte d Arthur and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, the use of the code of chivalry is used on the knights Lancelot and Sir Gawain. In Morte d Arthur, Lancelot breaks the code of chivalry because he is not honest when King Arthur... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Morte d Arthur, fantasy is used when a hand comes out of the water after Lancelot throws the sword into the water. This is a fantasy because hands do not miraculously appear from the water. Another fantasy is used in the story at the end when it says that King Arthur may or may not be dead. This is a fantasy because King Arthur s son killed him when he hit Arthur in the head, meaning that King Arthur is obviously dead. While in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight fantasy is used because a person cannot be green, people are different shades of brown. Also, another fantasy used in the story is when the Green Knight has his head blown off, but he still survives. This is a fantasy because he should have died after Sir Gawain blew his head off. However, there is a difference in the stories because, in Morte d Arthur, King Arthur dies. King Arthur dies because his son and he are enemies. His son is after the power that he deserves as the son of a king. So, he decides to kill King Arthur to have power, but he also dies along with Arthur. While in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight King Arthur does not die. He does not die because Sir Gawain is the one to accept the Green Knight s challenge of cutting each other s neck ... • 5. Experiential Learning CHAPTER I THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND Introduction Knowledge results from the combination of grasping (observation) and transforming reflections into action (concrete experience) (Kolb, 1894). Nursing is a practice profession. Clinical experience in the clinical setting is the integral part of the total education process for nursing students. (Estrella Cuarezma Sanchez, 1998) The clinical exposure of a student nurse is an experience that is not to be taken for granted. It is as important (if not more so) than the classroom lectures. In the field, the student nurse is allowed to experience dealing with actual patients and witnessing medical cases first hand. That is the reason why it is imperative that the student nurse make the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sheth (2008) sighted that private hospitals possesses centralized care. Therefore, student nurses are exposed to a conducive learning brought by ideal nursing practice exhibited in the health care setting. In the said type of hospital, Colladilla and Argos (2000) claimed more opportunities available both professionally and personally for its staff. Thus, student nurses in return could profit from it. Also, these hospitals are equipped with well maintained facilities, highly technologic equipment and complete medical supplies. (Johns, 2000) Thus, familiarization begins and would further evolve to learning. Adequate manpower plus limited handled patients could provide a centralized care. However, there are also disadvantages. Limited assignments are given to student nurses because they make sure they give quality care to patients due to patient s payment for services rendered. There are strict norms associated with providing health care interventions. Herewith, staffs nurses have significant liability to their patients. They can not afford to make mistakes. That is why, unlike in public hospitals, students learn more through observation of the different procedures done in the hospital. Public hospital provides culturally competent care (Vaknin, 2008). If a puncture occurs, then it is possible that moisture can penetrate into the structure of your deck. This can lead to damage that, where reparable, will be a very expensive and difficult fix. To avoid such a tragedy from occurring, try to use snow shovels that are made out of a less harsh material, such as plastic. You can also easily damage a deck if you handle your shovel too aggressively or with to much power. • 12. Factors Caused By Recreational Scuba Diving And Snorkeling... Globally, marine ecosystems, in particular, coral reefs, are experiencing increasing pressure due to the growth in recreational scuba diving, and snorkeling. Pressure refers to the frequency, and quantity of divers, and dive boats on any particular reef. This pressure often results in damage to the reef, and is caused by divers, snorkelers, and even dive boat anchors, and anchor lines, furthermore, this damage takes significant time to repair, due to the rate at which coral grows, and repairs itself. Although this damage is not irreparable, continual pressure by recreational dive and snorkeling industries, can lead to damage beyond the reef s ability to recover. Damaged reefs result in loss of sea life, vibrancy, and color, the primary draw for divers, snorkelers, and other marine enthusiasts. Consequently, this damage extends to the economies of the local communities, in which water related activities are a primary source of revenue. To sustain these local communities economies, and tourist enjoyment, private SCUBA organizations can coordinate, and facilitate options to reduce the recreational damage of the ocean s reef system through education, artificial reef attractions, and alternative dive programs. SCUBA diving is a growing, and global recreational sport, with one certification agency, PADI, claiming an annual average of 900,000 new diver certifications globally . Analysis Of Ralph Waldo Emerson s Self Reliance Ralph Waldo Emerson, a loyal follower of transcendentalism and writer of several debatable essays, supports the idea of one following his or her own conscience instead of the restrictions of society s mind. Transcendentalism, an American philosophical movement, takes place in the Nineteenth Century in which transcendentalists break free from the chains bounding them to the repetition of thoughtand action. In his essay, Self Reliance, he asserts the importance of independent thinking, gives clear and concise examples of independent thinkers, and trusting oneself. I agree with Emerson s emphasis on thinking with initiative in Self Reliance when he conveys the importance of nonconformity because independent self trust advances society. Emerson believes that fear of others misunderstanding holds one back from thinking with without consistency. The general public has no other data for computing other than past acts (Emerson 3). The comparison of thinking to computing implies the act of thinking as a rote activity without change. Although looking upon past acts may help better plan for the future, Emerson infers that these people look on these past acts only to repeat them without modification. Emerson further warns, a foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds (3). Regarding consistency as foolish and the negative connotation it carries conveys his strong opinion against it. All of their theories seem to intertwine with one another but each individual one has a different twist that makes them slightly different. The first theologian I m going to discuss is Augustine. Luther believed that a merciful god would deliver anyone from the evil they did. Only by the grace of God can forgiveness of sin be achieved. Even after you are graced, you are still partly a sinner. He believed that you could not merit grace and could not learn grace through works, it is all given. Grace is totally undeserved and only through God s choice can you be graced. Lastly is Rahner, who was a Neo Thomist and a student of Aquinas. Rahner believed in the supernatural existential and obediential potency meaning that as we re born we have the ability and capacity to receive the love of God. He said that grace was God s self communication in love. Also, grace is not an extra addition to human nature. Karl Rahner developed a theology that views grace as the offer of God s love that is intrinsic to existent human nature (pg. 1). He believed that you can either accept or reject the honor of grace. According to Rahner, human beings freely choose to ratify or to reject that orientation which is itself the free gift of a loving God, but the orientation remains structured into their being (pg. 2). Part 3: Autosomal Recessive Traits: 1. What are the hallmarks of an autosomal recessive trait? The main hallmark of an autosomal recessive trait is that both men and women have an equal chance in acquiring the trait. 2. What does consanguineous mean? Why is this concept especially important when discussing recessive genetic disorders? Consanguineous means people coming from the same heritage. This is especially important when discussing recessive genetic disorders because it could affect the chances of someone occupying the disease. 3. What is it about the inheritance pattern of factor viii deficiency seen in Greg and Olga s pedigree that point toward it not being an autosomal recessive trait? The trends point to factor viii not being autosomal recessive trait because clearly it seems to be affecting males significantly more than females. This would mean that the trait does not affect the males and females equally which takes away from the hallmark of an autosomal recessive trait where they have equal chances. Part 4: Sex Linked Inheritance: 1. What are the characteristics of X linked recessive inheritance? The characteristics of and X linked chromosome are that they are never passed from a father to his son, and that males get it more often than females. 2. Why does a son never inherit his father s defective X chromosome? A son never inherits a defective X chromosome from their father because they receive the X ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Otto Hahn, a German scientist, is also one of the scientists who created a great impact on the world. His discovery opened up a new era in human history. In this paper, you would find out what he did and how his discovery did creates an impact to this world; but first, lets takes a look at how did he become a scientist. On March 8, 1879, a boy was born into a glazier family and was named Otto Hahn. Since he was a kid his parents wanted him to become an architect. However, he decided to study chemistry at the University of Marburg. As he grew up, he became interested in industrial career. Hahn s founding of nuclear fission had created a big change to the world both during and after the time he lives. The tremendous implications of this discovery have led to study on possible military developments. Fission products are produced in nuclear weapon explosions, with the amount depending on the type of weapon. The largest source of fission products is from nuclear reactor. Some fission products are also used in industrial inventions and innovations. For example, some ion can react with steel surfaces to form a corrosion resistant layer. In this way, it renders the steel surface passive. In a similar way the release of radio iodine in a serious power reactor accident could be retarded by adsorption on metal surfaces within the nuclear plant. Furthermore, nuclear fission also takes part in medicine areas. Currently, nuclear fission is not used directly in medicine, however radiation, radioactive isotopes, and scanning devices (X Rays, CAT scans e.t.c.) that use radiation are. All of these inventions and innovation would not exist without his discovery. Therefore, I feel very thankful for his discovery and the things he have brought up to this ... • 33. RNA Interference in Biotechnology and Pharmacetics Essay Almost all biology students learn the fundamentals of gene expression, DNA contains information which is transcribed into RNA to create protein. Students however, are not taught of RNA Interference, the biological process where RNA molecules inhibit a gene s expression, RNAi for short. While RNAi is a fairly new discovery, its use in modern biological research is groundbreaking. RNAInterference works by binding Double stranded RNA molecules (siRNA) to a complementary messenger RNA. The enzymes Dicer and Slicer then cleave the chemical bonds which hold the messeger RNA in place and prevent it from delivering protein silencing instructions thus, the term, Gene Silencing. This phenomenon was first discovered by Richard Jorgensen in 1990 when... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sanofi plans on using antibodies to target PCSK9 which could lead to an alternative to the commonly used statins drug. Out of the 32 patients in the most recent trial, 24 received a single dose of the RNAi drug. The results showed that the expression of PCSK9 dropped to a staggering average, 70% and a 40% decrease of LDL cholesterol levels. If the PCSK9 inhibition drug deems successful it is still not sure whether the drug will perform well from a business aspect. Another application of RNAi is in Parkinson s disease. Researchers at the National Institutes of Health have successfully used RNA Interference to uncover several genes which possibly represent new therapeutic targets for treating Parkinson s disease. These discoveries may also be useful to other diseases cause by damage to the mitochondria. Researcher Richard Youle explains, we discovered a network of genes that may regulate the disposal of dysfunctional mitochondria, opening the door to new drug targets for Parkinson s disease and other disorders (http:/ /www.nih.gov/news/health/nov2013/ninds 24.htm). On certain occasions of Parkinson s the gene parkin, which tags damaged mitochondria as waste, is mutated. This 3 mutilation leads to excess accumulation of unhealthy mitochondria in the body. Essay on Woodrow Wilson Woodrow Wilson Woodrow Wilson, 28th president of the United States (1913 21), secured a legislative program of progressive domestic reform, guided his country during WORLD WAR I, and sought a peace settlement based on high moral principles, to be guaranteed by the LEAGUE OF NATIONS. Early Life and Career Thomas Woodrow Wilson was born in Staunton, Va., on Dec. 28, 1856. He was profoundly influenced by a devoutly religious household headed by his father, Joseph Ruggles Wilson, a Presbyterian minister, and his mother, Janet Woodrow Wilson, the daughter of a minister. Opposed by wealthy alumni and trustees, he also lost his battle for control of the proposed graduate college. The Princeton controversies, seen nationally as a battle between democracy and vested wealth, propelled Wilson into the political arena. George Harvey, editor of Harper s Weekly, with help from New Jersey s Democratic party bosses, persuaded Wilson to run for governor in 1910. After scoring an easy victory, he cast off his machine sponsors and launched a remarkable program of progressive legislation, including a direct primary law, antitrust laws, a corrupt practices act, a workmen s compensation act, and measures establishing a public utility commission and permitting cities to adopt the commission form of government. Success in New Jersey made him a contender for the Democratic presidential nomination. Although Wilson entered the 1912 Democratic National Convention a poor second to Speaker of the House Champ Clark, his strength increased as Clark s faded, and he won the nomination after 46 ballots. Offering a program of reform that he called the New Freedom, Wilson ran against a divided Republican party. In November, with only 42 percent of the popular vote, he won 435 electoral votes to 88 for Progressive candidate Theodore Roosevelt and 8 for the Republican candidate, President William Howard Taft. ... Is there even such a thing as a perfectly moral society? How would one go about forming this unheard of thing? Franklin observed people and used his own knowledge to form his list of thirteen virtues, behaviors that conduct high moral standards. Could these virtues create a perfect society? In order for Franklin s plan to work, every person must follow all thirteen of these virtues. A benefit comes from each thing Franklin listed. One of these benefits is creating good citizens. A good citizen is someone who respects their town, government, and fellow peers. Temperance and moderation are good qualities to have because that means everyone can control themselves. Silence also comes in handy because it can keep people from getting offended or hurt by another person s words. Order keeps everything running smoothly, even in time of disaster. Tranquility can... Sometimes people need to speak their opinions; otherwise, nothing would ever be changed. Everything would stay exactly the same and I don t think they would be good for society. Cleanliness is also another virtue that does not relate to being a good citizen. While it does have something to do with your character and appearance, it does not affect your morals and ability to be a good citizen. These are the only revisions I would make to Franklin s plan. • 41. The Origin Of English Language Codification The linguistic term codification refers to the process of standardizing and developing a norm of a language (Revolvy, 2017). In addition, it means the methods of creation and use of the dictionary through designing writing system and setting grammar rules. According to Einar Haugen codification leads to minimal variation in form (Stein Tieken Boon van Ostade, n.d. 1994: p160), therefore it reinforces a certain variety which has been selected and accepted. Even though codification is the second stage in the standardization, it is ongoing process. The origin of English language codification was back to the 16th century, when many of dictionaries and grammar books had published with a view of teaching the language to Welsh noblemen after the Act of Union between Wales and England in 1536. These dictionaries contained a list of hard words, mostly loanwords which adopted and borrowed from other languages, or sometimes invented. Robert Cawdery produced the first English dictionary in (1604). It lists about 3000 words, with a brief simple description for each. He aimed to codify a language, to let readers understand hard words. (Bl.uk, 2017) By the 18th century, scholars developed codification, due to considering it as a recognized activity. For that authors and scholars such as John Walker and Thomas Sheridan started to write materials so as to set down perspective norms for pronunciation and grammar. Unlike European countries which established academies for codification, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
