perception towards family planning and its implication to environmental susta...IJEAB
This study was conducted aiming at to assess perception of couples towards family planning and its relevance to environmental sustainability and to identify factors hindering family planning practice. Sample respondents for study comprises 90 couples in rural and 28 in urban. Data was collected by using random systematic and simple random sampling methods. The instruments used for data collection were interview and focus group discussion. The research found that there is promising level of awareness on family planning and main source of information were health extension agents. Reported reasons in sought of large number of children were old age support, son or daughter preference, considering children as a wealth, and labor support, religious prohibition. Nearly half of respondent couples approve contraceptives with more approval of women in both settings. Most of the respondents showed positive attitude towards family planning. Furthermore, half of the rural and nearly less than half of the urban respondents approve the importance of family planning for environmental sustainability. During the study period 23.2% of urban and 18.9% of rural couples were using some method of family planning; among which 21.4 of urban and 16.7% of rural women were using modern methods, hence, awareness level and practice in family planning showed a gap in both urban and rural. In general, urban showed more favorable attitude and practice than rural couples in family planning. Despite of their lower practice in family planning, rural respondents likely showed more favorable attitudes towards relevance of family planning for environmental sustainability.

Protected Area Conservation Measures and Practices of Community The Case of B...ijtsrd
Biri LAROSA Protected Landscape and Seascape BLPLS is a marine protected area in the Province of Northern Samar and is one of the countrys protected areas facing biological degradation because of human exploitation. Thus, this study assessed conservation programs implementation and community awareness to propose a policy redirection. Using qualitative descriptive research design, data revealed that BLPLS spans 33,492 hectares encapsulating 36 barangays with 18 known implemented conservation programs. The conservation programs investigated in this study covered ecological, economic, social, and cultural functions that aimed to benefit communities. Notably, the programs were well planned, but the problem was generally on the implementation. Some of the conservation programs succeeded because of strong legal basis and proper execution, forged partnership and linkages, prioritization, constant program monitoring and evaluation, and research based decisions, while other programs failed due to lack of commitment, lack of political will, lot of inconsistencies, Filipino negative traits, implementer’s incompetence, lenient monitoring and evaluation, political intrusion, lack coordination, and people’s passive and inadequate knowledge. Therefore, it is certain that successful conservation programs are advantageous to the integrity of the protected area, while failure poses a risk of increased vulnerability to degradation. Ergo, all successful programs must redound for the benefit of both BLPLS and the community people as it champions BLPLS’s ecological integrity. Thus, there researchers highly recommended that various agencies connected with the protected area may imposed a stringent and harmonized implementation of conservation policies, institutional reform, strengthen the capacity of the implementers, community empowerment, creation of reward system, context based environmental education, institutionalization of program impact, and evaluation studies, and data based decision making for program development and plan of BLPLS. Theme: Interrogating Climate Change, Resource Scarcity and the Paradigm shift...Dr. Dan EKONGWE
After the Pan African Institute for Development (PAID) received the mandate to mobilize over One hundred universities from sub Saharan Africa to attend the international Climate conference dubbed COP22, Marrakesh, 2016, there have been numerous calls at local and international level to do even more to save the climate and the COP 22 agreement and deal reached in France and prevent the risk of disaster that may affect humanity. However, the election of Donald Trump as the president to succeed Barrack Obama left many in doubt about his understanding and contribution to the global debate. While the rest of the world has approved the need to take sustainable action to curb the dangers of climate change, the US president has pulled his country out of the deal. Away from the political dimension there is increasing evidence of the link between climate change and conflict across the globe in the form of climate change and pastoralism affecting traditional coping mechanisms in farmer – herder relations and creating new forms of conflict. This document (working paper) attempts to expand the discourse by examining the debate in greater detail using the PAID approach to dealing with climate change and human security in Africa

3. Biophysical context
Equitable access to use of (land) resources, short- and long-term profit-
ability as well as durable soil health should be pursued as simultaneous
objectives of sustainable land management. Only such a comprehensive
approach can ensure that technological soil protection measures serve
food security in the long term. Achieving these objectives depends on
factors such as availability of technologies or access to effective extension
services. The impacting factors will have to be identified separately for
each concrete locality as they depend on the respective biophysical, socio-
economic, cultural and political context. The accompanying research in its
country case studies, thus, focuses on identifying the influential factors
and on developing pathways and processes for overcoming hindrances to
sustainable land management.
