2. Assault On Gun Control
Assault on Gun Control
Over the years gun control has been an issue that has been argued over and over.
Some say stricter laws are needed to control the guns that are out in the public.
Other say harsher background checks need to be done. Even gone as far as
banning certain weapons that someone can own in the United States. But not
matter what laws or restrictions are in place, the fact remains, guns don t kill
people, people kill people. First, I want to define a question that people have. What
is the definition of a mass shooting? Since I will be talking about this a little I want
to define a mass shooting. There is not a specific definition of mass shooting, an
accepted one says that an incident in which at least four people are shot (injured or
killed) is considered a mass shooting. The FBI, only considers an incident a mass
murder if three or more people are killed Lord (2017) So some of the facts or
statistics may not be as correct as one would like. This is tough when trying to
present an accurate figure during an argument.
Everyone is so eager to jump on the band wagon to restrict or ban weapons or
mainly semi/full automatic assault style weapons. They talk about the mass
shootings of recent time; Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, 26 deaths, Route
91 Music Fest in Las Vegas, 58 deaths, and 26 deaths at the Baptist church in Texas.
Nestel Keneally (2017) These are all because of semiautomatic or fully automatic
weapons. These facts are true. But they
3. My Brother Sam Is Dead Loyalist
The American Revolution was a war of principles fought between Loyalists and
Patriots. For example the Loyalists believed in neutrality and peaceful negotiation
against treason, however they also feared the loss of land, mob rule, and they
were against the brutality of war. Moreover the Patriots believed in freedom,
government, the right to bear arms, religion, assemble, and the right to protest. In
the novel, My Brother Sam is Dead written by James and Christopher Collier, a
family quarrels over what side is right; Loyalists or Patriots. Tims family struggles
to decide which side they re on and Tim struggles to decide mostly because his
brother and his dad argue over what is and what isn t right. In the book my brother

For instance, Sam is executed for stealing his own cattle. He went on jerking with
flames on his chest until another soldier shot him again. Then he stopped jerking

somehow expected for Sam to vanquish the enemy single handedly. But Tim
realizes that the reality of war isn t glorious it s brutal and war is unfair it kills
innocent people in which again loyalty isn t valued. Tim still chooses neutrality
because his brother gets executed for something that he didn t do and he is killed
by his own sied the Patriots. Tim chooses neutrality because on both sides both his
brother and dad get killed by the side they were on. In reality both Patriots and
Loyalists are not loyal. Jerry s death persuades Tim to join the neutral side because
Mr.Heron is the one who kills Jerry who is still a child about Tim s age. Is Jerry
Stanford all right, sir?... They kept him... What will they do with him, sir? (148).
Tim hopes that they will somehow send Jerry back but instead they keep him, even
though Jerry was Loyalists his own side wasn t loyal. Tim starts to see that with
anyone both Patriots and Loyalists are hypocrites and that you can t save anyone
even if you try. In this sense Tim feels very betrayed because his family and friend are
4. Film Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep Essay
Film Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep This film is much more than just an
acceptable homage to Philip K Dick, author of many original science fiction novels,
often laced with philosophical perspectives on reality and human dependencies. The
book, published in 1968, deals with the very postmodern theme of cultural fatigue in
relation to our humanity, of the essential human quality of empathy, its limits and its
contrasts. Human beings remaining on Earth are propped up by dependence on
artificial pets and their feelings towards one another is contrasted to explore the
ironic nature of how we place our emotions in order to survive. This is the device
and purpose of the concept of androids:... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The distinction between the real and the simulated in our culture becomes blurred
and deludes our natures, questioning the value of our natures in turn. The film,
similarly, is one big test of empathy on the audience. It is highly self conscious in
this way; we are made to feel that we are watching a film, and yet a film that
throws doubts into all our expectations, especially that of the extent of our own
emotional understanding. How much do we feel for Deckard or for Batty by the
end and how is this relevant? Deckard at one point asks regarding a replicant How
can it not know what it is? The Replicants are an essential premise, for once we
begin to replace aspects of our humanity to such a degree, what is left of the human
or at least the value of a human s life? Where everything is thrown into doubt, one
answer might simply be more delusion in a world of delusions and yet also of (pure
unicorn) dreams. We have the eyeball at the beginning, staring out at the darkness of
an exaggerated city scape. It is very relevant to our modern, technological age, when
William Gibson s cyberpunk book Neuromancer had emerged and our relationship
with our advanced technology forces us to re assess and re exert our own natures.
The film is multi layered; thrilling and unsettling, part dark science fiction and
detective film noir,
5. Example Of A Femme Fatale
A femme fatale, a French term for fatal woman (Schimkowitz, 2014), is a strong
willed, manipulative woman who is as alluring as she is dangerous. She is an
irresistibly attractive woman who leads a man into difficult and dangerous situations
with her seductive charms (Blakely, 2014). They used to be physically characterized
as fierce sexing looking women with sharp eyeliners. This female archetype has been
in existence since ancient times all around the world.
The first example of a femme fatale in this paper is Veda Pierce (Ann Blyth) in
Mildred Pierce, which was released in 1945, when many American soldiers
returned from World War II. During the WWII period, women were the main
providers for their families while American men were at war, which led to
increase independent American women. Mildred Pierce, the mother of Veda, is
one of the strong women who is working hard to support herself and her children.
In contrast to her mother s effort, Veda takes advantage of her mother s kindness
and money. She also betrays her by having an affair with Monte Beragon, who is
already married to her mother. Veda has the looks and knows how to use her looks
to attract men. And she is so ambitious that she does anything in order to get the most
important thing to her which is money to live the high class life. Ultimately, a femme
fatale leads the male into ruin. Veda fulfills this characteristic of the femme fatale by
shooting Monte to death when he denies that he is going to marry her.

7. Essay Life for Medieval Women
Medieval society was completely dominated by men, making a women s life at the
time difficult. Medieval law at the time stated that women could not marry without
their parents consent, could not divorce their husbands, could not own property
unless widows, could not inherit land if they had surviving brothers, and could own
no business with special permission (Trueman, Medieval Women ). When a woman
married a man, he would get any property she owned and she would forfeit any
rights she had to him. When the husband dies she would get one third of the land to
live on and support herself. Unmarried women who owned land had the same rights
as men (Hull). Whenever a woman got into trouble it would be her closest male
relative who would appear... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Midwives also perform emergency baptisms if the baby was ill or dying (Bovey).
Careers
Women had trouble advancing in trade and were usually barred from entering a guild
(a group of skilled workers of the same trade). Typical duties would be to take care of
the family, work out in the fields, be a servant to rich people, or make some sort of
craft like cloths. Here s a quote from a record in 1461:
Various people of the weavers craft in Bristol employ their wives, daughters and
maids either to weave at their looms, or to work for someone else at the same craft.
Women would also be paid less than men for doing the same amount of work, an
issue that is still around today. For reaping, a peasant man could get 8 pence a day.
For the same task, peasant women would get 5 pence. For hay making, men would
earn 6 pence a day while women got 4 pence (Trueman, Medieval Women ).
Common jobs for medieval women were shopkeepers, bakers, spinners, alewives,
farmers, and silk weavers. There were even some women writers. Women worked
more than one job because they got paid less than men therefore, in order to make an
adequate income, they took on extra work. Being a spinner was the most common
occupation of that time period. Women spent much of their time spinning wool into
coarse thread, then weaving it into cloth and making garments (Hull). John
Fitzherbert in his book A Book of Husbandry written in 1525 said of a
8. Edward As A Monster In Our Society
Twilight by Stephenie Meyer is a huge sensation for many people, however the
idea of a good vampire is an oxymoron. A monster is still a monster even if you
dress it up. A monster is defined as one who strays from normal or acceptable
behavior. The novel portrays Edward as misunderstood and mysterious, although
his behavior is similar to a monstrous predator. Edward, without his vampiric
attributes, would still be classified as a modern monster to society. Edward is a
wolf in sheep s clothing. He hides his true nature behind his good looks. Edward
was introduced early on in the novel as stunning and very attractive. When Isabella,
another character, first saw Edward she could kept glancing at him. I glanced
sideways at the beautiful boy (28 ). The text also describes how the students who
live in Forks view Edward. That s Edward. He s gorgeous, of course, but don t waste
your time. He doesn t date. Apparently none of the girls here are good enough for
him. (30 31). The other students at the high school romanticize Edward, however
none of them truly know him because of his mysterious and solemn attitude.... Show

I was flattered. He was unrepentant. What else is there to do at night? (348).
Edward unrepentance is characteristic of his vampiric nature. He knows that a
human can not stop him from doing what he wants. His unrepentance is also
similar to a psychopath feeling no guilt because in Edward s mind, he has
committed no wrong. The mindset of self righteousness and power Edward
believes is not how an average person thinks. Edwards explains that his human
desires is overshadowed by his vampiric desires. Edward s self awareness is seen in
the quote I don t want to be a monster.
9. The Concept Of A Person s View Of The World
The concept of a relationship, at first thought, seems simple two people, typically a
man and a woman, who are in love. But, coming to this conclusion in a thoroughly
modern world can be detrimental to a person s view of the world. Many type of
relationships have emerged, that differ to that man and woman in love argument;
different types of sexualities, such as bisexuality, can come into play, and even
relationship structures that defer from the traditional structure of monogamy. This
essay will argue that, while that it is true that the traditional idea of a man and a
woman living in a monogamous relationship is still widely the norm, other types of
relationship structures, such as polyamorous relationships, have emerged and are...

According to Rahilly (2015, p. 341), ...the gender binary refers to a dominant
cultural presumption about sex and gender: namely, that there is an expected
congruent relationship between one s sexed body and their gender identity and
expression... . This more or less refers to the idea that, socially, we assign at birth
that, according to a child s anatomy, that they will be a boy or a girl , which, in
today s modern world, is inherently problematic as it has been thoroughly researched
that gender, and sexuality, is more fluid than once thought. Even though there are
findings of fluidity, bisexuals are often ostracized by both heterosexual and
LGBTQIA+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, and Asexual)
communities, as they are often labelled to be confused about either being
heterosexual or homosexual (falling back onto the idea of the gender binary ) which
leads to many people to not use the term, including many bisexuals themselves (eds
Queen Schimel 1997, p. 69). As Reuben (2013), a person who identifies as bisexual

they are just as discriminating as the straight community... typical statements such as

11. The Memory Of A Memory Essay
Recalling a memory seems like a simple task but are you actually depicting the
events how they actually happened? Understanding the process our minds undergo
during memory recall has helped greatly in legal cases involving an eyewitness.
People generally believe that an eyewitness report provides completely reliable
evidence to a criminal case. However, Elizabeth Loftus of the University of
Washington has found that when an individual recalls a memoryit is not described
completely as it occurred but is reconstructed using other information as well. Loftus
is a leading researcher in the memory field of psychology. In this experimental study
she proposed that the manner in which a questionis asked influences the individual s
answer. Prior to researchers like Loftus legal cases often came down to a point of
the finger from an eyewitness; who consciously or not was not always reliable.
Due to this unreliability Loftus created four experimental methods in relation to
typical eyewitness cases in order to test her theoretical proposition. In the initial
study, 150 subjects were shown a video of a five car chain reaction accident that
occurred when a car (Car A) drove through a stop sign into oncoming traffic. When
the film finished the individuals filled out ten questions. One half of the group s first
question was How fast was Car A going when it ran the stop sign? The remaining
individuals first question was How fast was Car A going when it turned right?

12. Hypocrisy and Christianity Essay
Hypocrisy and Christianity
If one were to ask the American public about their views of Christians, what
response would one receive? We can imagine that there would be a great variety of
answers. However, most people might say that, in general, Christians are not very
different from everybody else. This is a problem. There are many people who claim
to be Christians whose lifestyles do not reflect their beliefs. The problem with this
situation is that it gives non Christians the wrong impression of Christianity.
Christians need to live their lives in a way that reflects what they claim to believe.
Christianity is a lifestyle not just a set of beliefs. A Christian is not merely someone
who attends church once in a while and believes ... Show more content on

People are ready to sue the minute someone does something to them that they feel
was uncalled for. We can see through this that people still have a desire for truth
and justice. They want to hear and see good things. People think of Christians as
good people. They expect someone who claims to be a Christian to be a kind,
moral, overall good person. It is extremely disheartening if those who claim to
have the guide to moral living are just as dishonest and coldhearted as anyone else.
It discredits Christianity s claim of having a better way. For example, let s say that
it is discovered that a person who has always attended church and openly claimed
Christianity has been embezzling funds from their company. Many people would be
even more angry that he was hiding behind the front of being a good, honest
Christian than if someone who had not laid claim to those values was discovered in
the same crime. If people cannot trust Christians who claim to be moral, whom can
they trust? Is there anything that deems a person or group of people trustworthy?
Hypocrisy among Christians can cause these kinds of ideas to grow.
Christians are commanded in the Bible to take the gospel into all the world. God
desires that all people know Him. However, since He is in heaven and not on the
earth now, it is up to His people to show others the way to Him. Much of that
testimony for Christ is through the way Christians lives are lived. It is well known that
13. Utilitarianism In Industrial Experiment
Thought experiments are hypothetical situations, which we use to explore certain
concepts. In class, we used thought experiments to determine what a utilitarian would
do to gain the most satisfaction in a few life altering scenarios. Utilitarianism is not
a term coined for doing the right thing, but rather doing what maximizes the most
happiness. With this state of mind, the choices utilitarians make are not always
moral. Utilitarians are believers that mankind is better off if our interest goes
beyond our self but that doesn t necessarily entitle selflessness. In the trolley lever
experiment, there are five people tied to the train tracks on one side and one person
tied to the train tracks on the other the trolley is heading straight towards... Show

The experiment consisted of a utilitarian doctor with five patients about to expire if
they don t each get a vital transplant and a healthy patient who came in for a simple
operation. The doctor had the option to purposely kill the healthy patient and
donate their organs to the transplant patients thus saving their lives. Once again, the
utilitarian would choose majority over minority and kill a healthy man. The
decision the utilitarian makes are at odds with morality in multiple ways. you can
determine this by asking these questions pertaining to the experiment. First
question if it is right to break someone s trust? Second question if it is right to
commit a crime? Third question if it is right to kill someone? The answers to all of
these questions are no concerning moral standards. However, to a utilitarian, it
doesn t matter how you gain maximum happiness as long as it is obtained. Majority
of the experiments we did in class followed the same guidelines sacrificing the life
of one for the survival of the others. For a portion of the time, the one person who
usually ended up sacrificed was never placed in immediate harm beforehand. One of
the exceptions was the experiment of Jim and the

about 400 metres above the sea level. The island s tropical climate which is warm
and dry in winter and hot and wet in summer would be acceptable for many people.
The seasons in Mauritius can be divided into hot, wet season which starts from

Abstract Voting is most pivotal process of democratic society through which people
determine it s government. Governments around the world are increasingly
considering the replacement of traditional paper based voting schemes with electronic
voting systems. Elections of Bangladesh are conducted most exclusively using
electronic voting machines developed over the past three years. In this paper we
describe the design, construction and operation of a digital voting machine using a
microcontroller profoundly. Again we also portray counting... Show more content on

Among the reasons for concern, critics include vague and incomplete security
guidelines, insufficient documentation requirements, and inadequate descriptions of
the configuration of commercial software. An electronic voting machine has been
designed by a microcontroller for which the code is written in assembly language.
Various code protection schemes specified by the manufacturer of the microcontroller
are used to prevent inadvertent or deliberate reading and reproduction of the code
contained in the microcontroller. The election data contained in the EEPROM of the
microcontroller can download into a central computer for tabulations. The security of
data in this computer is enforced by generating digital signatures for each data file
created. This process makes it impossible for anyone to substitute wrong or
deliberately altered data files at any intermediate stage between the capturing of voter
s intent by the machine and the final results tabulations. Prior to the election, all
configuration data is set up on the counting server. The configuration is then
transferred to the ballot box server. Configuration data include: candidate names,
polling station identity, and a list of barcodes. During the voting period, voters are
authenticated as per the traditional paper based voting, and asked whether they wish
to vote electronically or use the traditional paper based method. A voter
17. The Absurdist Idea Of Hope In Pandora s Myth
Pandora s myth includes the first human woman in Greek mythology created by the
gods Hephaestus and Athena as prompted by Zeus. Pandora was delivered to
Prometheus brother as a bride. Zeus gives her a jar filled with various evils as a
wedding present; however, an important condition given by Zeus was that she was
forbidden to open it. Her thoughts were overwhelmed by the possibilities that could
be within the jar. One day, out of curiosity, Pandoraopens the box and releases all
evils into the world. After noticing what she had done, she traps Hope inside of the
jar. The idea of Hope is considered an Absurdist idea as it holds mortals back from
accomplishing positive reality by causing them to focus the positive possibility of
their future... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Zeus true plan for keeping including Hope as an evil within the jar is not to leave a
positive thought for mortals to endure as they suffer. Hope is meant to connect
with an absurdist idea of life being meaningless due to it keeping mortals on a
constant search for future satisfaction rather than satisfaction during their current
life. For instance, during the time of the ancient myth, there weren t many
occurrences to incorporate a need of hope for; however, in the modern world, hope
is significant amongst mortals as they feel it is all they have during difficult times
such as the major effects of Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Mortals felt that hope was
the only idea that remained after they had lost everything. During a devastating
occurrence such as Hurricane Katrina, hope is appropriate in order for those
affected by the devastation to feel as if they have something positive to expect after
such a tragic event. Some acted on their instinct and appropriate response in order to
make their hopeful future come true by moving away from the disastrous area while
others relied on hope to protect them as they stayed around the same area of the
previous disaster. Their life could slowly become meaningless as they are in constant
fear of the disaster occurring once

It is a well known fact that diabetes can affect the functioning of the heart, kidneys,
eyes and nerves but few people realize that diabetes can also lead to dental
problems especially in those who are past 45 years of age. In many cases dental
problems in diabetics can lead to loss of teeth. This situation can be prevented to a
great extent by becoming aware of the various dental problems caused by diabetes
and taking timely preventive steps to avoid them. The main causes of dental
problems are lack of proper dental hygiene and heredity. Diabetes only increases the
risk of periodontal diseases and aggravates the effects of these causative factors. The
problem with diabetics is that their bodies do not process sugar adequately resulting...

It can be done by following the glycemic index diligently. This is very important
because studies have shown that people with poor control over their blood sugar
levels suffer from gum disease more easily and frequently and they are likely to lose
more teeth than people with good control over their blood sugar levels. Even children
with insulin dependent diabetes are more at risk from gum problems. Therefore the
best defense against periodontal disease is good diabetic control. In view of increased
risk of dental problems people suffering from diabetes should also avoid situations
that increase the risk even further like smoking and alcohol consumption. Dental and
oral hygiene like regular brushing, flossing and regular visits to the dentist are a must.

22. A Study Of Changes Throughout Gene Expression
Epigenetics is the study of changes in gene expression which may be inherited with
no changes to the DNA sequence itself it may account for non Mendelian population
inheritance patterns. Transgenerational inheritance requires a chromosomal or
epigenetic change in the germline allowing the information to be passed on from one
generation to another (Anway et al 2005a). In order for epigenetic marks to be passed
down, the gametes need to conserve their epigenomes by avoiding two
reprogramming events; in the gamete and zygote. DNA demethylation is avoided in
some genes called imprinting genes which retain their sex specific patterns. The
environment and external factors may cause additional information to be added on
top of the genome. It has generally been accepted that epigenetic marks are removed
and re established in the preceding generation, thus not inherited. Nevertheless, many
studies carried out on model organisms are challenging this concept and suggesting
that this may not be entirely correct. There may be an incomplete clearing of
epigenetic marks resulting in transgenerational epigenetic inheritance. The present
generations where being synthesised in the womb of their grandmother. Therefore,
does the food my grandmother ate affect my development? Could the air we breathe
affect our grandchildren? Many questions are still unknown in the transgenerational
epigenetic inheritance field (Youngson and Whitelaw 2008). Phenotypic variation

24. Pros And Cons Of Capm
1.Introduction
Capital asset pricing model know as CAPM is a model for calculates the required
rate of return for any risky asset. This method is often used to determine the fair price
of an investment should be. This essay will discuss about usage of CAPM in stock
market industry, through probe the advantages and limitation of CAPM to this
industry.
2.Concept of Capital asset pricing model
During 1952, Markowitz came out with a theory based on diversified investment is
able to construct the risk averse investors. He diversified investment portfolio theory
and efficiency of the priory rigorous mathematical tools as a means to demonstrate
risk averse investors in a number of risky assets in construct the optimal portfolio

One of the example is a risk free rate of return is the United States 10 years
government bonds. If stock investors need to bear additional risk, then he will need
on the basis of the risk free rate of return in order to obtain the corresponding
premium. Therefore, equity market premium is equal to the market expected rate of
return. Equity risk premium is the stock market premium and a ОІ coefficient of the
product.
4.Pros and Cons of Capital asset pricing model
There is only one reason investors receive higher returns make that investment in high
risk stocks. Therefore, CAPM occupy dominant position in this modern financial
environment (Fama and French, 1993).
4.1Advantages
The biggest advantage of CAPM is simple and clear. It is the prices of any kind of
risky securities are divided into three factors: the risk free rate of return, price and
unit risk. Throughout these three factors combine together, it will provide a clear
picture for the analyst. In addition, another advantage is the usefulness of CAPM. It
allows investors to review and evaluate selection of various financial assets
competitive quotes based on the absolute risk rather than the total risk. Investors in
the financial market have adopted this method as it able to solve the general problem
of investment

26. Dentistry, Dentistry And Oral Hygiene
In society, dentistry and oral hygiene has been overlooked and is viewed as a luxury.
Dentistry plays a large role in American culture and has evolved extensively since it
has begun. Today, the world of dentistry there have been multiple innovations with
advancements in diversity, inventions, dental health and diseases. The ADA defines
dentistryas the evaluation, diagnosis, prevention and/or treatment (nonsurgical,
surgical or related procedures) of disease, disorders and/or conditions of the oral
cavity, maxillofacial area and/or the adjacent and associated structures and their
impact on the human body ( ADA Definition of Dentistry )
To start, dental care has been around since 7000 BC, tools dentist have used have
even been found in ancient graveyards all over the world. Researchers have found
drilled teeth in graveyards were hard to reach molars. Although it is speculated
drilling could have been a decorative or replacement of evil spirits. ( The History of
Dentistry ) Since dental care wasn t popular until the 1700s, underclass citizens
were not able to get the proper care they need, they hand made tools themselves.
Underclass citizens experienced painful dental care, the tools were primitive and
the operator (person doing so) had either none or little experience. This is why
having access to dental coverage is important, without it individuals are at risk of
leaving detrimental oral diseases untreated. There are nearly 82 million people who
do not have accessible
27. Gender And Gendered Communication
Gendered Communication
Most studies focus on how communication styles disclose identity and dominance in
groups. Verbal and non verbal behaviors in interpersonal communication are critical
in unraveling a person s sexual preference or orientation. For example, Kitzinger
argues that people can display heterosexuality through talk, particularly by making
explicit sexual remarks (228). However, most researchers have paid less attention on
how differences in gender communication can influence society. In fact, the
patriarchal system enabled men to exercise power and control, especially in verbal
discourse. This is to clarify that in the traditional cultures, some voices were dominant
while others remained in the background. Currently, women have continued to
perfect the art of using the voice as a persuasive strategy to achieve equal status. In
this paper, I will argue that empirical evidence reveals that men use a dominant
communication approach that puts women at a disadvantage in the circumstances
involving social status and the construction of sexual practices.
Studies on gendered communication reveal that men exercise both power and high
social status in their communication. We see this patriartical actions taking place on
macro and micro levels. The Greetings and Compliments research by Bailey
concludes that men want to enact a status difference in their communication.
Bailey writes that men use remarks to wield power while perceiving their targets,
mostly women, as people of lower social status (368). On a macro level, we had
explit examples of this throughout the last presidencial campaign. One prevalent
Trump s campaign controversy has been his repetitive comments and speeches
against women. Acoording to the Telegraph UK, in the first presidential TV
debate, between Trump and Clinton, he interrupted her 25 times in the first 26
minutes. Besides, according to Fox News, he said that I was going to hit her with
her husband s women and I decided I shouldn t do it because her daughter was in
the room . Openly saying that he was going to use her husband s faults against her is
a clear example how men in our society continue to exercise power over women
constantly. At the same time, using a verbal discourse,

29. The Epidemic Of Dengue Fever
The holiday season tends to attract Canadians to visiting warmer destinations in the
hopes of escaping our frigid winter weather. These warmer destinations, like the
Caribbean, have much to offer; with balmy tropical weather, hot beaches, ocean
views, and plenty of sun. Unfortunately, along with the luxuries of these areas comes
with the risk of an array of tropical diseases, such as dengue fever. The thought of
contracting this illness is not ideal for the perfect winter getaway but is beginning to
become a somber reality with the dramatic increase of incidences in tropical climates
globally. Dengue fever, also historically known as break bone fever, is caused by the
dengue virusand is endemic in tropical areas around the world. If severe, the illness
can progress to more serious conditions, including dengue hemorrhagic fever and
dengue shock syndrome. Dengue fever is emerging as a major global concern as
an estimated 2.5 billion people are at risk and an increasing trend in annual number
of cases over recent reported years (1,2). The dengue virus (DENV) is a small,
positive, enveloped RNA virus about 40 50 nm in diameter. DENV belongs to the
genus flavivirus; a member of the Flaviviridae family (1). Its single stranded genome
codes for three structural proteins (capsid, precursor membrane, and envelope), and 7
non structural proteins. There are four different serotypes of the virus, DENV 1
through DENV 4, that are all antigenically and genetically different. Although

Instinct or innate behavior is the hypothetical inherent inclination of a living
organism toward a particular complex behavior.
The simplest example of an instinctive behavior is a fixed action pattern, in which a
very short to medium length sequence of actions, without variation, are carried out in
response to a clearly defined stimulus.

These beliefs, like Fabre s belief that most behaviors were simply reflexive, also
proved to be too simplistic to account for the complex emotional and social behavior
of human beings.
An interest in innate behaviors arose again in the 1950s with Konrad Lorenz and
Nikolaas Tinbergen, who made the distinction between instinct and learned behaviors.
Our modern understanding of instinctual behavior in animals owes much to their
work. For instance, in imprinting a bird has a sensitive period during which it learns
who its mother is. Konrad Lorenz famously had a goose imprint on his boots.
Thereafter the goose would follow whomever wore the boots. The identity of the
goose s mother was learned, but the goose s behavior towards the boots was
instinctive...[citation needed]
In psychology[edit source | editbeta]
The term instinct in psychology was first used in 1870s by Wilhelm Wundt. By the
close of the 19th century, most repeated behavior was considered instinctual. In a
survey of the literature at that time, one researcher chronicled 4,000 human instincts,
having applied this label to any behavior that was repetitive.[citation needed] As
research became more rigorous and terms better defined, instinct as an explanation
for human behavior became less common. In a conference in 1960, chaired by Frank
Beach, a pioneer in comparative psychology, and attended by luminaries in the field,
the term was restricted in its application.[citation needed] During the 60 s and
31. How Much Power Should the American Government Yield
A dispute widespread amongst the citizens of the United States of America is on
government, and more specifically on how much power the government should
yield. The philosophical question I will be posing in this article is what should the
government have the power to do . All the way to the left, we have liberals who
believe in a big governmentand a government that is involved with supporting the
people and curbing social inequalities and social hierarchywhile supporting social
equality. On the other side of the spectrum we have right wing conservatives who
prefer a government that is small and call for reduced social spending, less
regulation. In addition, they accept social hierarchy and social inequalityciting that
social hierarchy and social inequality are inevitable. With this essay, I want to focus
on if the government has the power to invade your privacy. Currently reactions has
been wild ever since former NSA analyst Edward Snowden leaked the massive
PRISM internet surveillance program used by the NSA to collect data on citizens of
the U.S. The philosophical question what should the government have the power to
do correlates with the NSA because the NSA is an institution of the government, and
should the government have the power to spy on its citizens without their knowledge
and without a warrant for the sake of national security. Foucault goes through the way
governments have attempted to control populations throughout history, and how
power has exercised
32. Black Rat Research Paper
The rattus rattus, more known as the black rats, are well known rodent species with
long tails which are considered invasive to the United States. The black rats first
originated from Tropical Asia, were then introduced to East Asia, then were spread to
Europe, and finally were introduced to the United States as they were coming along
with European travelers. A regular black ratadult is usually around 12.75 to 18.25cm
(5.9 7.19 in) long, 15 to 22cm (5.8 9.7 in) tall, and weighs around 70 to 23 grams.
The rat has a thin coat of black fur, and it somewhat smaller than the brown rat. A
black rat has a lifespan of at most a year in the wild, but when held captive, a black
rat can live up to around 4 years. Black rats usually have around 8
33. The Rocking Horse Winner And Lord Of The Flies
Comparison
D.H Lawrence s The Rocking Horse Winner and William Golding s Lord of the
Flies view children as easily manipulated figures. D.H. Lawrence s short story
demonstrates how easily children, Paul, can be influenced into believing that money
and luck indicate one s level of happiness. William Golding s novel tries to show
that all children are evil and have savage impulses. A common theme in both of these
works is that children create their own downfall and loss of innocence.
In D.H. Lawrence s The Rocking Horse Winner, Paul is searching for an identity and
love. Paul s mother was incapable of love; when her children were present, she
always felt the centre of her heart go hard. Paul s mother desires materialistic

After Paul had given his mother five thousand pounds for her birthday the echoes
in the house grew. His mother s expression did not change when she saw she had
been given money. At this point, Paul realized he would forever be in debt to his
mother and her nonexistent love for him. With each race he won, the echoes only
continued to grow. Paul had created his own downfall because he fed into the
house s haunting words. He was easily manipulated into believing that having
money was the only way to be happy. Paul s mother viewed him as a burden and
could not find a way to love him. As a result, he could not keep up with the lavish
lifestyle and took his own life by surging madly to find more money. This short story
indicates that adults heavily influence the thoughts and feelings children acquire at a
young age.
In William Golding s Lord of the Flies children are represented as humans that are
inclined to be evil. In the beginning of the novel the characters are innocent and
pure. The boys try to recreate a normal society by electing a leader and delegating
people to do chores such as build camps or hunt. Golding is looking to show readers
that in the society there are rules to conform to and there are adults present to make
sure those behaviors are implemented. Initially, the boys stick to this norm and
behave identical to civilized human beings.
Overtime, the true nature of instinctive violence overcomes the boys on the island.

Part I: 1. How is managerial accounting different from financial accounting?
Managerial accounting is mostly used by organizations for purposes of internet alone.
The format it uses may not be conforming to the standardization by GAAP. Flexibility
is offered for by the system so as the corporate can oversee needs for future and
purposes of planning. Managers use managerial accounting to implement decisions
that are concerned with the daily operations of an organization. It relies a lot based on
past performance but on trends that are current and future and do not give an
allowance of exact numbers. Financial accounting is closely related to GAAP.
Standardization is necessary for accommodation of outside agencies might be in need
of this information. It is not useful in any way to predict the future. Management
account relies a lot on the future market trends, and managers are faced with the
difficulty of making critical decisions within a short period in a fluctuating
environment (Holgate, 2006). Management accounting is usually presented internally
while financial accounting is for use by external stakeholders. Financial management
might be very significant to potential and current investors, but management
accounting is a necessity for managers for making decisions for their current and
future financial status. Financial accounting is specific and must conform to GAAP

and on speech acts: what types of speech acts are performed in this fragment and
what s the intention behind them. This fragment was taken from the film Eternal
Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. It tells the story of Joel Barish and Clementine
Kruczynski, two completely different persons who have been former lovers in the

from their minds. The film opens up with Joel, a very emotional and timid man who

That explains why when they met at the beginning of the film, it was the first time
they met each other after erasing each others memories. The fragment I have
chosen takes place when Joel is getting the procedure done for the first time, and
the first memory they erase happens to be the last memory they shared together,
which funnily enough is nothing but an argument. After that, their relationship was
over. In this scene Joel is waiting for Clementine, who has gone out without him
and is coming home late and drunk. Joel is mad at her because of that but also,
since this is the end of their relationship, they are are more susceptible to what each
of them does, which contributes and can be clearly seen in this argument. They
start arguing about Joel s car, which Clementine has broke down because she was
driving whilst being under the effects of alcohol. He is clearly not happy about that
and he starts blaming her for possibly having cause some more damage apart from
the car. They start to get more angry at each other, specially from the moment Joel
calls Clementine a wino and since Clementine is clearly offended by that she points
out to Joel that the only reason he is mad at her is because he is contemplating the
possibility of her having had sexual relationships with another person that is not him,
which is something he wouldn t like to happen. But Joel response to that is that he
assumes she has done that, since that
39. Reflection Of The Movie Remember This House
Surprisingly, I have not heard much about this movie, but the fact that this film was
made using only the words of an unfinished James Baldwin writing for a book
entitled Remember This House and that it was read by Samuel L. Jackson peaked
my interest. The book was supposed to tell the story of America through the lives of
his three murdered friends, well known civil rights activists Malcolm X, Martin
Luther King Jr., and Medgar Evers. To begin, I had no idea about James Baldwin s
relationship with Malcolm X and Medgar Evers, so I appreciated the way this film
gave me insight into that. Well, the only reason I know who Medgar Evers is was
because he was assassinated in the driveway of his home in Jackson, Mississippi
the city where my mom was born and where she and her family currently live. I
also grew up learning about Malcolm X in relation to Martin Luther King Jr. while
James Baldwin was also mentioned for his role during the Harlem Renaissance. It
was really interesting to me to learn that James Baldwin was friends with them
considering their initial political differences in their approach to fighting for equal
rights and their thoughts about an end to segregation. Nevertheless, one of the main
things I realized after watching this film and taking this course, in general, was that a
lot of the struggles African Americans had to go through 50, 100, 200 years ago are
still around today. I never thought that racism went away when Obama was elected
President,
40. Globalization Of Globalization
Is the international political economy more globalized today than in 2000? One could
argue that the groundwork for such a phenomenon has been soundly laid by the post
World War machinations that generated entities such as the International Monetary
Fund and the World Bank. No doubt, events such as the terror attack, a particularly
nasty form of globalization, that occurred on September 11th, 2001, raised awareness
of globalization in general as we realized that a plot conceived in Afghanistan,
Germany, and elsewhere could be brought to fruition within our own borders.
(Keohane :2004) Certainly, technological innovations like the smartphone, social
media, and e commerce have enriched the already fertile global ground that brought
forth a level of global interdependence, shared knowledge, and communication laying
the groundwork for what is now referred to as the age of globalization. (Scholte
:2000) However, much of this may have facilitated the process, but most certainly
fueled global perception of the reality of an enmeshed economic, political, and social
system. Whatever the case may be with the preceding, the globalization of
international political economy is evident as problems from weakened states,
decreasing political autonomy, and powerful non state actors now shape international
economic, political, and social spheres alongside to the consternation of the global
political hegemony.

42. My First Basketball Game By Sebastian Vettel
I don t care too much what happened in the past. I prefer to focus on what is coming
next and I am really looking forward to it. A quote by Sebastian Vettel would
explain this moment of my life pretty accurately. It was an easygoing Saturday
afternoon, bright and humid as always and I knew we had to play with a mindset
that we are going to win this gamebecause in three tries to defeat this team, we
couldn t get it done. For the fourth game, arguably the biggest game of our whole
season, we received news that nobody wanted to hear. One of our best players had
torn a ligament in his knee. All that week, I made constant visits to my school s
basketballcourt to make sure I was healthy enough for this game so my team wouldn

It was a brutal score by the start of the 4th quarter. If we lost, we would be out. I
was ready to take control of this game If my teammates were going to give up on
me but I couldn t do it by myself. Our lineup walked on the court and they started
with the ball. I continually shouted to not give any shots to their team and to play
hard and aggressive defense. We came up with the steal and I ran the fast break. As I
went up for a layup, I was vigorously shoved to the floor and I was slow to get up. I
knew I had to keep playing whether I was hurt or not. I walked up to the free throw
line, in pain, hoping the referees wouldn t pull me out of the game. I made both
free throws and kept playing hard. With almost 10 seconds left, it was a tie ball
game and my leg was bulking up with pain. We had the ball, and I was the one to
take the last shot. I received the ball off of a roll and picked it up and held it for 8
seconds and shot it with 3 seconds left. It missed, clanked off the rim and I got my
own rebound and put it back up and scored with 3 tenths of a second left. We had
just one this game. I was proud of myself for keeping my composure and came to a
conclusion that taking leadership IS how you get things

The threat that was created by the Communists in the United States was known as

Red Scare left a majority of the people unhappy. Due to the Red Scare people lost

My goals upon graduation, and where I plan working within the social work field.
Growing up I dealt with many forms of abuse, and due to all the trauma I had a lot
of built up aggression. Unfortunately, at the time I felt there was no other way to
express myself except to act out. As a consequence of my bad behavior, I lost
many close friends, and missed many good opportunities. As a result, I was
required to go to intensive family therapy for three days a week, with a women
named Julie. Fortunately, after therapy I saw a change in myself, and I began to
learn new skills to communicate, and cope with my anger. Although, I ve gone to see
many therapists before, Julie was the one counselor that gave me hope, and after
meeting her my life has positively changed. This experience of going to family
therapy, and meeting Julie has influenced me to want to help other troubled teens
who have dealt with abuse.
Upon graduating from Heritage University with a Bachelor s degree in Social Work, I
hope to start my own private practice, so I can counsel troubled teens. I plan on
providing services such as cognitive therapy, employment resources, and family
therapy. However, I will specialize in working at risk youth with behavioral
problems. In addition, I will continue on with my education, and get a M.S.W in
Social Work. I plan on earning my M.S.W. in Social Work at Eastern University, so I
can earn a counseling certification. However, in the meantime I plan on working as a
case manager

I do various presentations throughout the organization and within my department,

uncover trends, etc. At my previous employer, the accounting firm used Sage
Peachtree to track providers with overdue payments. This allowed our department
to track payment plans, convey to providers when a payment was not received, and
to show how much was outstanding overall for all providers. This gave our
company an overview on the funds we collected throughout the year and the funds
still outstanding so we can contact the providers in order to collect the funds that
were overpaid. Sage Peachtree was used to store provider information for billing

The actions and behavior of the crusaders were guided more by secular reasons than
religious. While the crusades have been remembered as a purely religious struggle
between Latin Christendom and the Muslims of the middle east the actions made by
the crusaders were only partly caused by religion. In addition although there were
many members of the First Crusadewho were genuinely motivated by religious
devotion there were many who were not. The actions of crusaders like Bohemond of
Taranto and Baldwin of Boulogne seem to have been motivated mainly by self
interest and a desire to better themselves. Not only do their circumstances before the
crusadesindicate that their motivations might have been more secular, but the actions

After the relief army under Kerbigha arrived it tried and failed to destroy the

that all of the crusaders had been killed which convinced them to turn away from

although whether they asked to be allowed to leave or demanded that the Muslim

Although this could be called a minor malfunction, there are other people who have

Emotional trauma could be considered the worst offenses that one can do. Living
through emotions that seem to be out of control plagues the female player s mind. I
was a teenager, away from home, being subjected to daily emotional torment by a
grown man in authority over me. Sitting on the bench at practice I was subject to
daily verbal diatribes in front of my teammates. I was a waste to the program and
told by the coach that he owned me and the girls I played with. That we couldn t
complain because he would yank our scholarship funds. He told the players to not
speak with me in the hopes I would quit so he could take my scholarship money and
give it to a healthy pitcher , says Lisa Herbertson who is a former college athlete
(Herberton). When acts like this happen, the female player inherits a lot of emotional
turmoil.
There are many side effects of emotional abuse. Self doubt is one of the various
emotional baggage that comes from having a male coach treating a female abusively.
One of the major signs of self doubt is
50. Multiverse Research Paper
In an infinite multiverse, there is no such thing as fiction. The multiverse is a theory
where our universe is not the only universe in existence. There could be an infinite
amount of universes side by side from each other. If this theory is true, then every
possible outcome can and already has happened before. There could be a universe
where humans can fly, one where the entire earth froze over forever, there could even
be one where humans do not even exist. Anything that you can imagine and more
could exist if this theory is true.
Merriam webster defines the multiverse as, A theoretical reality that includes a
possibly infinite number of universes. In English, that means a possible reality that

This idea has been theorized in quantum physics, religions, and philosophy. Even
though the theory is popular in many science fiction and fantasy franchises, many
scientists are trying to find proof of existing universes. Some believe we are living in
parallel universes that had different timelines, alternate histories, and different, but
similar environments. We may have alternate versions of ourselves who may either
have either similar lives as ours or completely different lives than we do. The
scientists today are still trying to find ways of traveling into other dimensions, but the
existence of infinite universes has not been confirmed yet. Every experiment that
brings better credence to inflationary theory brings us much closer to hints that the
multiverse is real.
The multiverse is considered a mystery because it is near impossible to prove. The
theory deals with topics such as, quantum physics, quantum mechanics and
philosophy, which can take decades to learn. The experiments have been
accumulating for more than a century now and the precision achieved are simply
breathtaking. Even if we could prove that there were in fact, multiple universes out
there, we would have a less than zero chance that we could ever explore one. It is
physical impossible to travel fast enough to the end of our universe and to the
beginning of

Christmas is Halloweentown. In my opinion I would say that only about 1/5 of the

people celebrate Halloween, and everyones scares on Halloween .Everything in

As with many short stories, Raymond Carver s Cathedral only has a few pages to
develop his main character and create a scenario he or she must learn from or

husband comes up in the story, the narrator moves on to other subjects quickly.
This reveals a jealousy in him that is not plainly written in the story. It allows the
reader to learn about the narrator as he sets up the story. Because of this set up, the
reader is able to expect and easily see the narrator s jealousy as he is later
introduced to the blind man. He also omits names. The reader never learns the
names of the narrator or his wife, though she is frequently involved in the story. This
allows the reader to focus on essential characteristics of the character. The wife is
merely the wife. The blind man is blind.
Choice of point of view can change the tone and entire meaning gained from a
story. The tone of this story would have been much different if it were written from
the wife s point of view. She would not have been seen as the static nagging wife
stereotype, the husband himself would have probably be viewed as unsupportive
and a slacker, and the reader would have gained a better understanding of who this
blind man was. However, for the sake of the story, the importance of the blind man is
that he is blind. This is what is important to the narrator and this is what the
