2. Passive Solar Heatinging Is Based On The Principles Of...
Passive solar heating The principle of passive solar heating is based on the
collection of short wave solar radiation in (building) mass that in return disperses
long wave heat radiation that can be used for space heating.
Earth coupling The general idea behind earth coupling is to take advantage of the
earth s large thermal storage capacity. Ground temperatures are quite stable at
relatively small depths and are quite similar to the local annual average ambient
temperature. Near the surface ground temperatures are more influenced by dynamic
ambient conditions.
Night sky cooling The effective temperature of a sky at night is typically much lower
than ambient conditions.
Therefore buildings cool down at night by radiating heat to the sky. This phenomenon
also occurs during daytime but is then levelled out by solar radiation.
Natural air cooling Natural air flows can be used to remove unwanted heat from a
building by flushing the building with large volumes of (cool) air. Natural air cooling
is based upon the natural ventilation principle of cross ventilation: openings on both
sides of the building allow natural occurring winds to pass through the building
carrying the heat along.
Evaporative cooling Evaporative cooling is based on the fact that energy is needed for
the evaporation of water. If this energy is withdrawn from the building, it will
instantly cool down the building. Just the presence of groundwater or surface water
will bring about a cooling effect on its direct

The Chunnel Tunnel project was initiated to connect via a tunnel France and

It can be a difficult task if the key stakeholders have not been informed earlier in the
life cycle.
It is clear to see that throughout the project the tasks and progress were monitored
very closely. The project is heavily dependent on the resources provided by its
shareholders and in turn they rely on regular updates to reassure them on their
investment. In the construction and building industry the methods and application of
project management tools are very reliable and well tested. Therefore, it could
benefit the project if the it was managed with detailed and defined practises and also
follow standards set and agreed upon on a international level.
Was the project scope defined clearly at early stage? Identify one major scope change
throughout the project life and discuss the effects of scope changes on project
performance?
Since the early stages, the project was inundated with concerns and issues with the
project scope. From the perspective of project management, the initial scope was
not defined well enough. Details of the design were over looked and aspects such
as the details of the air conditioning ended up increasing the original scope by $200
million. This supposedly led a prosperous project to an uncertain economic ordeal.
Initial estimates of the project had been $5.5 billion and by the time of its actual
completion it been delayed by a year and increased to $15

money in an envelope days later (Blanchard). The weddings normally last at least
three days (Blanchard). At first, the groom comes in on a white horse and that s

lots of dancing (Blanchard). Hindu weddings are one of the most important part in
a Hindu s life time (Rosinsky 32 33). It just shows that they are tied together like a

Today s Youth and Technology In today s world, technology is heavily relied on
throughout businesses, homes, schools and many other fields of importance.
Technology has made an impact, not only on today s society, but more and more on
today s youth. Many kids come into contact with technology at a young age and are
usually more technologically intelligent than adults. They are practically teaching the
adults how to use technology, today s youth has grown up with technology their

Because suicide has become such a problem from cyber bullying, there has been
federal and state laws put into place to try and prevent kids from taking their own

it s usually somebody from their social circle (Patchin). When the bully is from
their social circle, it tends to hurt the individual even more. They can t take their
problems to their friends because, sometimes, those are the people who are
bullying. Explicit text messages or better known as sexting has evolved through
the use of technology. Sexting is affecting teens lives in a negative way. One in
five teens admit to sending sexually explicit photos or messages with their cell
phones and twice as many reported receiving sexting messages and photos (Mooney
42). The sending of vulgar messages has created emotional problems for teens.
Those messages can be spread across the school or even throughout the town in an
instant, reaching anyone and everyone. Once those messages are exposed, many
teens begin to harass or make fun of the messages or pictures causing emotional
problems such as insecurity for the victim. Emotionally sexting can take a toll on a
person, especially if it backfires and gets into the wrong hands, says Dr. Johnson
physiatrist at the Houston Human Behavioral Study (Johnson). Many girls suffer
from this because they think they can trust the person they are sending it

bad day after another. Sometimes it is ok to appreciate your experiences and the
people within those experiences and appreciate life to its fullest catastrophe. For

10. Compare And Contrast New England And Middle Colonies
The British colonies of New England, Middle, and Southern developed during the
17th and 18th centuries as a result of the competitive nature of the European
explorers to colonize and obtain more land than the others. The New England
colonies were built upon the objectives of religious freedom and economic
prosperity. The population was consistently increasing as child birth doubled and
life expectancy improved. They experienced long winters and short summers. The
colonies were located nearby the Atlantic Ocean, which provided the colonists with
great seaports. These ports were used for trade as well as fishing sea life such as
whales and fish. Here is where they set up the Atlantic trade network, importing and

Like the other colonies, the south established trading posts. They traded tobacco,
rice, sugar, slaves, and indigo with England. The flat and coastal plains permitted a
great abundance of cash crop plantations. The terrain also comprised of swampy
lands, rivers, good harbors, and bays. The climate was humid unlike New England,
which created mild winters and hot summers. The main goal of the south was
economic prosperity. This invited more men to travel from England by
themselves, which decreased the number of women. The ratio of men to women
was 7:1. Unlike New England and the Middle, the Southern colony s life
expectancy was low due to outbreaks of malaria and yellow fever. Like New
England, the south was dominated by few religions. Protestants and Catholics
immigrated for religious freedom. The protestants however made up the majority of
the population. Cecelius Calvert, also known as Lord Baltimore, was granted
Maryland, where the House of Delegates passed the Act of Toleration that allowed
religious freedoms to all Christians in fear of a Protestant takeover. Unfortunately for
the Catholics, the Protestants did take over and removed them from the legislature.
The south developed an elected legislature with Georgia being ruled as a royal

Norman Maclean testifies to this power in his novella A River Runs Through It.
Through his eulogy to the Blackfoot river Norman Maclean captures the humansoul

Redford s movie adaptation, while maintaining the core importance of the Blackfoot

For Maclean, the river was always highly personal he even refers to it as my family s
river multiple times demonstrating the profound effect it had on his upbringing. The
deepest familial moments such as Norman offering Paul help, discussing life plans, or
Norman finding common ground with his father, all occur while fishing on the
Blackfoot or in transit to it.
Maclean also uses the rivers changing topography to reveal his emotions once he
returns to Montana from his time at Dartmouth, a much more metropolitan refined
place. He writes, the family river changed find that quote , and appears melancholy,
but later comes to accept that things have changed and time moves forward. Once
again viewing the river as something of personal ownership reveals Norman s own
emotions about himself. He sees that the river and town has grown, with development
along the river altering its serenity but then he begins to accept the change (find
quote) as part of the cycle of growth and acceptance. Because he uses the river to
represent himself, his long thoughts about the industry developing symbolize norman
s internal conflict returning to a very different Missoula than the one he left. The
moment he learns to accept that things change, like the town becoming larger and
more urban, and cannot be the same forever marks the peak of character growth.
Throughout the entire novella, these emotional changes are highlighted through
metaphors involving the river

Market and environmental analysis of McDonalds Corp 2003.
Market and environmental analysis is an essential part of an organization s External
Analysis.
The main objectives of a market analysis are;
a)To determine how attractive a market is.
b)To understand the dynamics of the market and amend strategies accordingly.
Here we apply the dimensions of a Market Analysis to McDonalds corp.
1)Emerging submarkets;
McDonalds failed to recognize the changing trend in customer s preferences to better
tasting, fresher food. This trend led to new sub markets emerging for tastier, fresher
and fast food perceived as healthier. A few of the smaller/privately owned
competitors (Cosi and Quizno s) were able to operate in niche markets ... Show more

With the rising immigrant population customers now had a choice of items.
McDonalds realize this too late and try to counter this effect by introducing new
burgers. However, the testing of the new menu does not gauge strongly enough the
changing customer preferences and this poor planning led to its failure.
Internally changing trends were also blindsided. Franchisees who were the closest to
customers were not included in decision making and were thus disgruntled. Here was
the need to change the management style from top down to bottom up. This would
have solved some of the issues plaguing McDonalds, by providing data on what
customers want and what products would have a greater chance of success.
7)Key success Factors
McDonalds did have some strengths or key success factors;
a)Large number of franchises that led to economies of scale. This however contrasted
to the small is beautiful concept of the niche markets.
b)Complete training for franchisees to begin and run their own McDonalds proved to
be a good team building exercise.
c)Cost of food was low due to economies of scale and economies of size. Moreover,
McDonalds was able to negotiate a reasonable price for high quality food products.
McDonalds failed to realize the changing trends in the casual fast food markets, as
a result of which, a large part of the market share was taken over by existing brands
like Wendy s and new players
13. Concepts Of Broad Banding And Competencies
Broad banding, competencies, and de jobbing have been introduced as a means of
overcoming the restrictions of the traditional system. The concepts of broad
banding and competencies are simply a recalibration of the existing pay scales to
offer organizations the flexibility to adjust and meet change (Daley 2012, 122). The
scales are compressed from a larger number to a small number of pay grades.
Individuals can take any of the previously lower grade duties without loss of pay or
prestige. Competencies have much in common with personality traits. By
highlighting skills and competencies instead of task and behavior the organization is
targeting the very things it needs to do to succeed. By assuring that employees

Broad banding is the most realistic alternative to the traditional position
classification system and the most popular and radical reform (Naff 2003, 141). A
career system is necessary to focus individual attention on the long term strategic
issues facing an organization. Rank in position systems have shown the benefit of
recruiting talent from outside the organization as well as providing current
employees with significant outside experience. It is easier to select from
candidates within the organization which presents a danger of blinding the
organization to what is going on in the world at large (Daley 2012, 124). The most
important issue in selection is determining the validity of the selected method
(Scroggins et al. 2008, 186). General mental ability tests, or intelligence tests have
proven to be nearly the best indicator of a candidate s ability to perform a specific
job (Partnership for Public Service 2004, 4). However, this type of test has also
been proven to have different results on different groups. Different racial groups
perform differently on intelligence tests, particularly IQ tests (Scroggins et al 2008,
193). Intelligence tests have considerable predictive validity when it comes to
employees future productivity and job success. Differences on mean and distribution
of IQ can be used as efficiency

disappointments. So in my search of jobs, I landed on one which I had never heard
about before. It was a job to monitor chats on a social media site.
Well its top of the notch boring jobs in the time magazine. Just kidding. But I was

mounted in the medieval age was to ride on something like a horse and that s why
we see most of the knights on horses. All knights followed the code of chivalry,

Generational Differences in the Classroom
Most people have a learning style that mirrors how they were taught when they
were younger. It should be noted that there is not a one size fits all method when it
comes to learning. The key to being able to appeal to each of the different
generations is to offer diversity in teaching styles in order to satisfy the different
preferences. As of now, there are four generations that are in the workforce and those
four generations are: The Silent Generation, Baby Boomers, Generation X, and the
Millennials. This paper will examine the characteristics of these four generations,
how their learning styles differ, and what to provide to each group in order for their
learning experience to be most rewarding.
The Silent Generation was born between the mid 1920 s to early 1940 s. The silent
generation was born in the middle of the Great Depression, and saw their parents
struggle with finance issues (Levonius, 2015). This generation learned to value the
money that they had and tended to save more than spend. This generation was raised
in the midst of the World War, therefore this generation preferred to keep their heads
down and stay silent while working hard to achieve slow progress (Levonius, 2015).
In the classroom, members of this generation prefer to be in the background and not
the center of attention. They are a group that respects authority, does what is asked of
them and does not quit the job until complete. This generation grew up in a teacher
centric educational system, meaning that children should be seen and not heard.
While they were in school if they spoke out of turn there was usually some sort of
punishment. The silent generation has a learning style that is based on the classic
classroom structure, and what that means is they prefer to sit in front of an instructor
and listen to the lecture. They like for learning to be taught in a linear format with
feedback that is clear (Levonius, 2015). It is common that this generation has decided
to return to school simply for the fact that they want to keep their minds sharp, after
retirement. It is important for these adult students to

have not only expanded the job market but have also developed tools that
marketers can use to develop their own business consulting services online. The
primary social media channel of choice will be LinkedIn, which is a professional

and LinkedIn groups. It is a site that over 90% of recruitment firms and 85% of hiring
managers utilize to find candidates (Shin, 2014).

Any job engagements will be formalized offline by having professional exchanges
and discussions off site.
Step 3: Integrate Strategies
The main objective of the strategy will entail growing one s social media presence
and finding the right connections. Therefore, LinkedIn will be the right tool to
integrate to one s offline job search and career growth. Penetrating the social media
sites will require proper planning, determination, creativity and consistency. The main
strategy will entail posting quality content to offer industrial advice, periodical
reports and corporate analysis (Johnson, 2017).
The strategy will be mixed with offline engagements which will include attending at
niche based professional career events and industrial marketing network conferences
created by individuals within my online social circles as an opportunity to have face
to face conversations. After creating an online presence, the only way to stand out
from the rest of the professionals looking for jobs and career opportunities will be to
develop and manage a group with common interest as a long term strategy from
where one can grow as a marketing consultant.
Step 4: Identify Resources
The social media personal branding strategy will enable one to sell their skills as a
marketer through various social media sites, such as LinkedIn,
19. Urban Sprawl In Los Angeles Essay
Los Angeles is built on the vast and flat landscape; it was their opportunity to grow
fast as a metropolitan. With this environment, the constant influx of population was
enough to generate a significant community even outside of downtown. The urban
sprawl started on its endless horizontal ground. However, soon they confronted the
limit of the carrying capacity. L.A couldn t handle its urban sprawl; it needed a
solution to keep growing. Los Angelescouldn t deal with the increasing housing
demand and lacking of public space. Compared to other metropolitan, such as New
York, Los Angeles showed the dramatic comparison in population density. The
urbanized area of Los Angeles was the densest in the country in 1990, more so than
even New York City. The 2000 figure for the Los Angeles Long Beach Santa Ana
Urbanized area is 7,068 people per square mile, compared to 5,309 for the New
York, New jersey Connecticut urbanized area. (Grey 90) In detail, 90 districts of
L.A have more than 10,000 people per square mile. Especially Koreatown has the
biggest number which is 42,000 square per mile (LA times Sewell 2016). After
decades, when it confronted its housing problem due to unaffordability, people
finally realized there is no suburban area for them to move or build new housings in
Los Angeles. They reached their limit of growing. Unnerving lesson in man s infinite
capacity to mess up his environment. (Grey 238) The population kept larger, the price

The Path from Secondary to Post Secondary Education Transition
How does a high school student know that he or she is ready to enter college? How
do parents know their children are academically, mentally and emotionally ready for
this transition? It is a question that has no definitive answer but does however have a
basic theory that can t be ignored. Preparing our children to enter college and to
determine their career path can be a daunting task. The transition for students from
high school to college really begins with the first taught lesson, the first hug, the first
word and a collaborative effort; throughout a child s lifetime we as a community pave
the road to higher education.

23. Disadvantages Of Being A Gladiator
What was life as a gladiator? How does it affect humans today? What were the
advantages and disadvantages of being a gladiator? There are so many are so many
questions about gladiators that go unanswered, but now, thanks to archaeologists, we
are able to answer those questions. Evidence shows that being a gladiators had both
advantages and disadvantages. A gladiatoris an armed fighter who entertained
audiences in the Roman Empireby fighting against other gladiators, wild animals,
and criminals. In late 1st century, Nicolaus of Damascus believed they were
Etruscans. A generation later, the 1st gladiatorial ceremonies were held in 310
BC. It was held by the Campanians in celebration of their over the Samnites. The
Romans were greatly influenced by their predecessors the Etruscans. For example,
the Etruscans always sacrificed an animal before their ceremonies, so the Romans
started doing the same. Gladiators were usually slaves or criminals, but could also
be free men. Professionals gladiators were usually free men, but they were all
treated as slaves. Free men still wore shackles and had to do whatever they were
told. Although they were treated as slaves, free men would often be the most
popular amongst the crowd. Criminals and slaves would be set free if they survived
3 5 years as a gladiator. More than 100 gladiator schools were built throughout the
Roman Empire. Gladiators were sent to school depending on if they were a criminal
or not.
24. The And Reference Of Natural Kind Terms
In this paper, I will begin by briefly explaining both what defines a natural kind term
and what the description theory of the meaning and reference of natural kind terms
is. I will then proceed to outline Hilary Putman s argument where his main goal is to
defeat the descriptive theory and provide a thesis of that of the following, only one
being true, and not both: knowing the meaning of a term is just a matter of being in a
certain psychological state, and that the meaning of a term determines its extension.
Putnam gives two examples to further explain his claim. In regards to his twin earth
thought experiment, he concentrates on the idea that meaning is reference. Building
off of the twin earth thought experiment, he then provides more... Show more content

So when we are pointing to a dog and call it a Labrador Retriever, we are
automatically corresponding the name dog to the category of Labrador Retrievers.
Same goes for water and gold. Usually, natural kind terms are explained by scientific
makeup so water and gold both remain classifications of natural kinds as well. Putnam
argues against the notion that these natural kind terms provide meaning from their
description (intension determines extension) while, at the same time, intensions
being concepts through psychological states. Thus, Putnam believes only one can be
true at a time. With this information, we can now further our understanding of this
concept of what a natural kind term is by looking at the theory Putnam intends to
defeat.
The Description Theory of the Meaning and Reference of Natural Kind Terms On the
surface, the description theory of the meaning and reference of natural kind terms is
simple: that knowing the meaning of a term is just a matter of being in a certain
psychological state of mind, and that the meaning of a term determines its extension.
In other words, intention entails sameness of extension, as Putnam puts it.
Putnam s Argument Hilary Putnam s account of what makes up a natural kind term
relies on our definition stated above, in which he believes natural kind terms hold
true in all of nature (this is an important point) through being a rigid designator, or
indexical. He believes that

For eighty four days, old Santiago has not caught a single fish. At first a young boy,

tells his son to go in another boat. From that time on, Santiago works alone. Each
morning he rows his skiff out into the Gulf Stream, where the big fish are. Each

The boy loves the old fisherman and pities him. When Manolin has no money of
his own, he begs or steals to make sure that Santiago has enough to eat and has
fresh baits for his lines. The old man accepts his kindness with a humility that is
like a quiet kind of pride. Over their evening meals of rice or black beans, they talk
about the fish they had caught in luckier times or about American baseball and the

27. Pliny s The Alexander Mosaic
The Alexander Mosaic is a Roman floor mosaic that dates from c. 100 B.C. It is
discovered in the city of Pompeii which was preserved in ash after the eruption of
Mount Vesuvius. It was found in the House of Faun, named after the bronze statue
of a faun found there. It is thought to be possibly based on a wall painting done in
315 B.C.E., Hellenistic Period by a Greek artist named Philoxenos of Eretria because
it matches a description of the painting written by Pliny.
The mosaic is approximately 2.72 by 5.13 meters (8 feet 11 inches high and 16 feet
and 10 inches) long. It is currently housed in the National Archaeological Museum
in Naples, Italy. It consisted of over one and a half million tesserae (From the
Greek word tesseres which means square .), or small pieces of colored stone and
glass, none larger than 4 mm, in four colors: white, yellow, red, and black. Several of
the colors seen in the mosaic are the natural color of the marble pieces. The

28. Genetic Essentialism In Gattaca
Gattaca deals with several philosophical issues: Genetically engineering humans,
genetic privacy, and discrimination, and genetic essentialism/determinism. For this
paper, I would like to focus on genetic essentialism/determinism. I would also like to
posit that genetic essentialism is a form of discrimination which has the possibility of
denying a child s right to an open future.
First, this film has a personal appeal to me, but you will been a little background to
understand why. When I first saw Gattaca in a movie theater in 1997 my struggles to
exceed in life were still very real to me. I identified strongly with Vincent and his
struggles. His struggles were my struggles. Not because I was discriminated against
because of my genes. In 1997, genetic testing was not an issue. However, I was
discriminated against, and my future was prognosticated at a very early age. I have a

What I did know, however, is that it felt wrong not to give Vincent a fair
opportunity to pursue his dreams because of his genes and the mistaken belief that
our genes can prognosticate what type of person we will become in the future. I felt
that if a test, given to me in grade school, was so wrong at predicting my abilities in
the future, then how accurate can blood or genetic test at birth be? I cheered for
Vincent. I saw nothing wrong about Vincent cheating to exceed. After all, the way, I
saw it, the system was unfairly stacked against him.
In Gattaca, Andrew Niccol confronts us, through Vincent s struggles, with a utopian
society of humans whose lives were based solely on their genetic constitution. The
Gattaca society was portrayed as a modern, liberal, and industrialized society where
the use of genetic engineering was offered as a personal service to couples so they
may choose their offspring traits. The use of genetic engineering was voluntary and
not a state directed or mandated
29. Pros And Cons Of Lowering The Voting Age
Should the legal voting age be lowered to 16 years old? Personally I believe it should
be. Firstly, younger people should be able to vote because 16 and 17 year olds have
opinions too. Their voices deserves to be heard in our community as well as those
above 18. It is suggested that young people skip out on votingmore so than older
people. This may be the case, however no harm is done if the voting age is lowered;
the voting population would be increased regardless. Secondly, lowering the voting
age and increasing the voting population is beneficial because more voices increase
the odds of a third party winning an election. More people with differing opinions
would bring much needed support to non democratic and non republican

The Crystal Palace can be described as a firm glass building that was initially made
in Hyde Park, London, in order to be the home for the Great Exhibition of 1851. It
was known that 14,000 exhibitors from all around organized together in the
990,000 square foot exhibition space in order to display models of technology that
was developed during the Industrial Revolution. () It was created and designed by a
man named Joseph Paxton and is three times bigger than St. Paul s Cathedral. ()
Once the exhibition was over, the palace was relocated to South London to a place
known named Penge Common at the top of Penge Peak close to Sydenham Hill. The
Crystal Palacestood from 1854 until its demolition by fire in 1936. The Eiffel Tower
was built in Paris, France in 1889. The construction of the tower began in January of
1887 and was finished just in time to be an entry arch for the World s fair in 1889.
The World s fair was significant because it celebrated the 100th year anniversary of
the French Revolution, which took place in 1789 1799. The Eiffel Tower is known
as the greatest prominent artificial monuments in the world and as the most visited
paid monument. () The Eiffel Tower got the name from an engineer, by the name of
Gustave Eiffel, whose corporation planned, designed, and built the famous
monument that still stands today. The Crystal Palace was originally built in 1851 in
London. In January 1850 a team was created in order to choose a layout for the short

31. New Method Of Ultrahard Material Synthesis
New Method in Ultrahard Material Synthesis: CS2 Catalyzed Ultrahard Fullerite
Ultrahard materials is a broad category define by materials that are harder than
diamond. Diamond, thought to be the hardest material for centuries hasn t been the
hardest material seen by scientists in a long time. Many materials have been
developed or discovered recently that surpass the 150 GPa hardness of diamond by as
much as 100%. There are many ways to measure the hardness of a material, from the
classic scratch test to more complicated bulk modulus calculations. Other tests of
hardness include indentation and rebound tests, or measurements of the elastic and
shear modulus. Ultrahard fullerite is one such material that has surpassed diamond
with values ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Structural studies of fullerite are hampered by its lack of a 4 or 6 fold axis, so long
term periodicity in fullerite s crystal lattice isn t possible for covalently bonded
fullerene molecules in three dimensions. TEM studies have shown a sequence of
FCC phases that have been explained by bonded fullerene chains formation. Because
of this difficulty, researchers have turned to Raman spectroscopy to study the
polymerization, which has features explained by the C60 phonon spectra
perturbations by intermolecular covalent bonding. The 3D polymerized phases
produced in ultrahard fullerite synthesis are phase IV and V, where phase V is the
desired ultrahard fullerite. Phase V is translucent in the near IR or visible range
having a Raman spectrum containing two broad peaks around 1550 cm 1 and around
500 cm 1.
Prior to research by Popov et al., the synthesis conditions of ultrahard fullerite
depended on a degree of plastic deformation and stress tensor variation of a sample
under compression. The minimum required pressure for synthesis was 13 GPa at
1100 K, or 18 GPa at room temperature, both of which aren t suitable for industrial
production without a catalyst. The polymerization of fullerene molecules starts under
sunlight irradiation at ambient temperatures to create dimers. These simple
conditions for these intermolecular bonds to form led researchers to hypothesize

Most enzymes become denatured past forty degrees Celsius. Also, most enzymes
lose activity when frozen at about zero degrees Celsius. As stated before, enzymes
have an optimum pH at which they function. Enzymes can lose all activity or we
can say that the rate of activity decreases for enzymes at extreme pH values. Each
enzyme functions best at a different pH. As researched, the optimum pH for
peroxidase is between 6.0 and 6.5, or even ranging from 6.0 7.0 is better. The
majority of enzymes have their best activity between a pH of 6 to 8. The vast
majority of enzymes are proteins. Because enzymes are proteins, they are made of
amino acids causing them to weigh differently. Also, most enzymes are made up of
multiple enzyme complexes. With this being so, the weight of an enzyme can affect
its activity. In enzymes, there are also many types of bonds found. These bonds
contain hydrogen bonds, disulfide bonds, or covalent bonds, which will affect
enzyme activity. For instance, covalent bonds are the strongest and hydrogen bonds
are the weakest. Along with the structure of the enzyme, stronger bonds hold the
enzyme together longer under extreme conditions. Basically, the enzyme has to bind
to a specific site on the substrate or the molecule that needs to be changed. The
enzyme can bind at a site called the active site, or at a different site on the substrate
called an allosteric site.

Using Scars to Communicate in Beloved
There are certainly complications to assumptions of how scars are used as a means
of communication in the novel, Beloved. The character named Beloved has her own
distinct scars that bear significance in the story. Her scars are distinct not only in
their origins, but also in their meaning, and create a point of diversion from the
traditional pattern established by the role of scars in the lives of other characters.
The scratches on her forehead and the cut across her neck were not made by a white
oppressor, but instead by her own mother, Sethe. Sethe kills her own daughter in a fit

(a love so great she can t let her be taken into a life of slavery). I don t have to
remember nothing, Sethe tells herself on page 183. I don t even have to explain.
She understands it all. Sethe believes the one true way she will find restitution and
understanding with Beloved, is by knowing the mark she has left on her daughter. I
only need to know one thing. How bad is the scar? Sethe feels that by knowing the
scar, by touching the memory of a smile under her chin, she can feel her daughter s
pain and connect with her.
However, Sethe s attempts to connect with Beloved in this way, only promise to
block her other daughter, Denver, out of their communication. This is illustrated
on page 239, as Sethe and Beloved s form of communication proves itself to be
exclusive. Once Sethe had seen the scar the little curved shadow of a smile in the
kootchy kootchy coo place under her chin once Sethe saw it, fingered it and closed
her eyes for a long time, the two of them cut Denver out of the games. In this way,
though scars as a form of communication can be very valuable, it is again illustrated
that such communication tends to be extremely limiting. Usually scars are a means
of connection or storytelling between two people only, and,

that can be drawn from this work is that a one of the most basic human impulses is
civilizing with other humans. Many people believe that if a group of people were in
captivity, then they would immediately resort to violence and trying to dominate each
other. However, Bel Canto suggest that, if put in that same situation, that the human
impulse would not be violence, but that our first impulse would be to civilize with
one another.

castles built in the reign of Edward the confessor.
The Norman invasion of 1066 was one of the causes for castles to become an
important part of defence. After king Harold s defeat by William the conqueror,
William was concerned about how he would control the country with only a limited
number of troops facing a hostile environment. He did not have enough troops to
station them everywhere, so he used a very useful tactic that had worked in
Normandy previously. This was a simplified castle known as a ... Show more content

The pathways and ladders that allowed reach to important areas of the castle have
been removed or destroyed; and the enemy are at a disadvantage because they are
facing attack from a raised level.
As time progressed, the situation in England changed. The Normans were now in
control of England and there was little resistance from hostile sources, therefore a
concentration on the development of castles occurred.
Less time was needed for castles to be constructed quickly and therefore time could
be used to search for better materials for building. This meant that stone could be
used instead of wood, which was used previously. By 1100, the earth that had held
Motte and bailey castles had now settles, and was capable of sustaining much larger
weights. With the change to stone castles, fire was not a concern as it was when
Motte and baileys were in use.
Square keeps were used when the development of stone castles were quite young.
They were often built in the most important places, to show how powerful the
Normans were. Square keeps were good because of the immense thickness of the
walls. The walls in square keeps were often up to 5 metres thick, and 30 metres high.
This added to the strength of the castle because the walls could easily withstand
attacks from siege weapons such as magonels and trebuchets.

42. School Counselors In High School
Hello everyone,
In regards to the topic of this weeks discussion board, counselors in school are
extremely limited to the areas within the area they can work. I say this because, the
counselors must maintain an equal relationship with all students. They absolutely can
not play favorites. Although I am not in the program which specializes in school
counseling. To my knowledge and experience with one of the counselors in the high
school I attended. A counselor is a faculty member who is someone students, who
are experiencing distress in class, due to issues inside or out of the academic
institution, go to, to either calm down, get help, support, information of resources,
references, etc. A counselor in school is in a way an escape for students to talk about
the things they feel, they can t discuss with their parents or peers.
Also, to my knowledge of getting into college, a counselor also helps students figure
as well as guide them through all the steps of applying to college, job, etc. ... Show

I believe it is affective to an extent. I say to an extent because I do not believe
group therapy that last days would be affective at all. Although students go through
the routine of waking up in the morning and going to school till 2 or 3 pm. There
is a lot of things that go on in a students life inside and outside of school. So it
would be very difficult to give a student group therapy when their lives are very
unbalanced. Although I do like the idea of group counseling in a school setting to
figure out the dispute between students. I believe it would be difficult for a school
counselor to control the situation. And it would also be difficult to schedule
something like a group therapy when students are always preoccupied with something
during the hours of

KALI VERSES XP
In this lab report I will be discussing both the Kali Virtual Image as well as the XP
Security Image. I will also emphasize on three particular tools of my liking related
to each image and speak in detail of what those tools do and how they might help a
security practitioner in a security operations center.
Kali Linux:
Kali Linux is a Linux distribution which is primarily for the security service such
as like digital forensics and penetration testing. It comes on pre loaded and pre
installed versions of over 500 testing platforms which are currently being used by
millions of clients across the globe to securely certify their programs, applications,
clients and web. [1]
Currently, Kali Linux offering is extended to ... Show more content on

This type of search use case is useful in identifying the tables and entries with
confidential/certified data which can be a huge loss in case of an attack.
The most important functionality that it offers is that it can help create an out of
band stateful TCP connection between the attacker and the database which can then
help us emulate an actual scenario where the system is under attack.
These are the various ways in which sqlmap gives us a way to protect and secure
our database servers underlying the operation system of our web and mobile
applications from a potential cyber security t.
Reaver:
Reaver implements a robust and practical brute force attack targeting a Wi Fi
Protected Setup (WPS) enabled router. It uses all the permutations and combinations
on 6 digit pins to obtain the passphrases out of it. [5] It can crack wps pins
extremely quickly with the time for default configured pin averaging around 3 5
seconds.
Usage: Run reaver is used to test wireless penetration for Wi Fi enabled applications
and or web servers. It can take seconds or hours based on the target network. It may
vary based on the password length field as well as the pin configuration restrictions.
Once we have the passphrases obtained by reaver for our use case and the time
taken for doing so, we can evaluate the general design for the password security for
our application and the amount of bounding restrictions we ask the user to take care of

47. Fptp Voting System Essay
For more than 130 years, Canada s FPTP voting system has been a source of
discussion and debates, however, it remain all the same with no changes. In this
section we will discuss few suggested reforms and referendums on the Canadian
electoral system that took place over the past decades until most recently in 2015. We
aim from that section to understand what might be the reasons for not considering
any changes on the electoral system in Canada. For example in the 1920s, the
emergence of a third party known by the Progressive Party helped to ignite the
discussion about the possibility of changing the federal electoral system in Canada.
However, the submitted proposals to switch to a majority electoral system like the
Alternative Vote system (which requires at least 50 per cent of the votes to win a
seat) were unsuccessful.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Here we discuss only few of them. The 2005 Single Transferable Vote referendum in
British Columbia (BC). British Columbia, in which 160 citizen were chosen by
random by the Citizens Assembly in 2004 to held meeting debating the changing the
electoral system throughout the province. The Assembly met in early 2004 to set out
a series of public consultation meetings. The Assembly then decided to recommend
that BC should adopt the Single Transferable Vote (STV) system . Their
recommendation to adopt a new electoral system was put in a referendum to question
voters in 2005 provincial election. However, the government at that time raised the
existing referendum legislation to require a successful vote to achieve at least 60
percent support across the whole province, must including 50% support in 60% of
the number of ridings. The referendum results fell slightly short to meet the above
criteria. In 2009, a similar referendum for the Single Transferable Vote (STV) system
was held in May 2009. However, the adoption of STV was
48. Alcohol And Risky Behavior Essay
Correlation Between Alcohol and Risky Behavior
Alcohol abuse has been associated with risky behavior not only among youths and
teens but also older individuals. Numerous researches have successfully established
that intoxicated individuals are likely to engage in risky behavior. The studies
focused on various behaviors such as the tendency to have unprotected sex and
contemplating suicide among others. Though there are psychiatric disorders that may
make individuals engage in risky behaviors such as sexual risk taking and
contemplating suicide, alcohol abuse also contributes to the tendency. In various
countries such as the US, alcohol is being abused even by teens despite the stipulated
legal drinking age being 21 years. Individuals who ... Show more content on

It is important to note that it has already been determined that under the influence of
alcohol humans tend to be more sexually active. The study showed that over two
thirds of the participants engaged in sexual activities after they were intoxicated.
There is currently no scientific basis to prove this view but empirical studies have
supported it. When intoxicated, individuals are less likely to make rational decisions
and hence may engage in unprotected sexual activities. Essentially, unprotected sexual
activities are correlated to the behavior of intoxication.
On the other hand, alcohol abuse is also associated with planning, contemplating, and
attempting suicide (Pompili, Serafini, Innamorati, Dominici, Ferracuti, Serra, . . .
Tatareli, 2010). Suicide is an escalating public health problem where alcohol abuse is
perceived as a precipitating factor. Attempting suicide is a criminal offence. When
users are intoxicated, they experience disinhibition, impulsiveness, and impaired
judgment (Pompili et al., 2010). More so, alcohol enables individuals to ease the
distress that comes with attempting an act of suicide. However, it is worth pointing
out that there are psychiatric disorders such as psychosis, anxiety disorders, and
susceptibility to stress that tend to increase the risk of committing suicide. Though
alcohol abuse is associated with suicidal behavior, there are other factors that may
also contribute to it.

49. Compare And Contrast The Outsiders In The Outsiders
Have you ever felt like you didn t fit in? Like you were an outcast in your society.
That you didn t fit in with anyone in the group or even your society. In the
outsiders it shows how some people just don t fit in with a crowd. The novel is The
Outsiders and the author is S.E Hinton. Even 50 years after it s release the outsiders
theme of the society/class and violences are still uncannily similar in our modern
society.
Even 50 years after it s release the outsiders theme of the society/class and
violences are still uncannily similar to our modern society. The Greasers and the
Socs are different when it comes to our society/class. The Society/Class is one of
the major reasons why Socs and Greasers always fight. Society/Class makes them
think of each other are nothing alike and they actually have things in common. The
Socs are prepped who, according to Ponyboy, Jump greasers and wreck houses and
throw beer blasts for kicks, and gets editorial in the paper for being a public disgrace
one day and asset to society the next (Hinton, pg. 3).The Socs love picking on the
greasers and starting fights yet, they are a Upper class out of the two. Society views
the Socs as rich and classy, and the greasers agree. In the texts Ponyboy says Greasers
are almost like hoods, we steal things and drive old souped up cars and hold up gas
stations and have gang fights once in a while (Hinton, pg. 3). When our society
decides whether or not you re in an upper class or lower class when it comes to
what job do they work at, or even what s their salary and where they live. In the
Outsiders the Socs and Greasers didn t get along because they both were on
different sides of the track. The Socs were on West (rich) side and Greasers East
(poor) side. This doesn t only relate to the Outsiders, but to reality because
everybody stereotypes someone from their appearances which leads to what Society
/Class you are in. Society/Class is one of the huge parts in the Outsiders and in
everybody Society . But can lead to some serious violences which brings danger to
our society.
Even 50 years after it s release the outsiders theme of the society/class and violences

Benedict Anderson s book is one of the most cited and in its field. Indeed, no single
phrase occurs as widely and frequently in the literature on nationalism as imagined

acceptance and adoption, (Desai: 183). Imagined communities: Reflections on the
Origin and Spread of Nationalism was first published in 1983 and revised and

after its first publication, the author later clarified some parts of the book as reaction
to critiques and added several chapter as a reaction to the claimed end of the era of

the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The conflict between

Why do I call groups in the Norther Ireland ethics/nations ? Most authors, especially
European ones, use the term ethnics to label different groups in Northern Ireland
based on their similarities social, linguistic, religion and national experiences.
However, I believe that groups in Northern Ireland can be adequately called nations
based on Anderson s definition. One of the groups striving for the reunification of

One of my personal strength regarding professional presentation is that I like to be
very organized and keep everything plain, simple and straight to the point. I also
enjoy having fun while giving professional presentations. I know that speaking to
others need to be short and educational because some people tend to get impatience
and bored. One method to continue improving these methods are to use short handout
and utilize slides with wise content and colorful background. Keeping in mind that
slides should be elaborated and illustrate the main key point of the presentations. In
addition, brainstorming and develop at least 3 4 goals and objective (Sherman, 2012).
With these, audiencewill have clear idea about what to expect during the presentation
53. The Characters In James Ellroy s L. A. Confidential
James Ellroy s L.A. Confidential is a story of various plots that do well in
presenting the Los Angeles Police Department as a unique, sporadic, and complex
organization. In this novel, the LAPD are many things; however, three crucial
characteristics that are a part of their core are violence, a police first mentality, and
racism. A conversation about the LAPD cannot be a conversion in which those three
characteristics are left out because of how influential they are in nearly every action
made by the individual of the LAPD. These characteristics are best illustrated by a
few of the book main characters, Ed Exley, Dudley Smith, Bud White, Dick
Stensland, and Jack Vincennes. All are men of the LAPD. Additionally, the way the
characters interact with three of the major events in this novel, blood Christmas, the
Night Owl, and the rape of Inez Soto,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

is important to note that Exley does not contest her thought. He and Dudley

vehicles were parked outside the Night Owl and no hard evidence is found against
the Black men, Dudley still says Chief Parker and I are convinced that the three
Negroes in custody are our perpetrators, or at the very most, another jigaboo gang is
responsible (191). At one point, the three Black men escape police custody, and even
though there is still no hard evidence Exley chases them down and while they stood
with their hands up, he shot them down (249). Exley went from the cop that may

the current culture. Another aspect of LAPD culture is the commission of crimes by

They only live who dare (Voltaire). Old stereotypes, and traditions once preserved
by culture for thousands of years are under threat to dissolve as time progresses
forward. World of today is a smaller place with less prejudice than it was in the past.
Many people strive to call themselves citizens of the world, as the result they become
more open minded, and less reserved to engage with unfamiliar experiences,
including intercultural relationships. In some particular cases, though need for
exploration in that domain is being driven by search of one s identity. This is where
people have to be careful, and mindful of experimenting. Brittany Muddamalle is the
mother of three boys. She has been in an intercultural marriagefor six years, and
shared her experiences, and challenges of intercultural marriage (http:/
/mixedrootsstories.com/tag/ interracial marriage/). Intercultural relationships are
among the most challenging because it might get hard to share cultures with kids,
blending cultures perfectly is impossible, and making a decision might involve
learning aspects of each culturefirst.
Indeed, It might get hard to share cultures with kids, parenting styles, religion,
education, and even relatives might have a widespread effect on how parents are
going to share their cultures with kids. Western culture emphasizes autonomy, but in
many cultures close family tights are more relevant and welcome. The US, is a
melting pot of cultures. When two people start the family, one
