The Minister’s Black Veil – Solitude Essay
The Minister s Black Veil Solitude
Henry Seidel Canby in A Skeptic Incompatible with His Time and His Past explains regarding the
solitude of Nathaniel Hawthorne: His reserve and love of solitude were the defenses of an imagination
formed by peculiar circumstances and playing upon circumstances still more peculiar (55). Let us
explore in this essay the solitude within The Minister s Black Veil and its author.
Herman Melville in Hawthorne and His Mosses (in Literary World, August 17, 24, 1850) comments
on how the writer is seen by others: But it is the least part of genius that attracts admiration. Where
Hawthorne is known, he seems to be deemed a pleasant writer, with a pleasant style, a ... Show more

At the outset of the tale, The Minister s Black Veil, the sexton is tolling the church bell and
simultaneously watching Mr. Hooper s door, when suddenly he says, ``But what has good Parson
Hooper got upon his face? The surprise which the sexton displayed is repeated in the astonishment of
the onlookers: With one accord they started, expressing more wonder. . . The reason is this: Swathed
about his forehead, and hanging down over his face, so low as to be shaken by his breath is a black
veil. The 30 year old, unmarried parson receives a variety of reactions from his congregation:
``I can t really feel as if good Mr. Hooper s face was behind that piece of crape
``He has changed himself into something awful, only by hiding his face
``Our parson has gone mad!
Few could refrain from twisting their heads towards the door. . . .
. . . more than one woman of delicate nerves was forced to leave the
meeting house.
Hawthorne, after exposing the surprised people to the sable veil, develops the protagonist through a
description of some of his less exotic and curious characteristics:
Mr. Hooper had the reputation of a good preacher, but not an energetic one: he strove to win his
people heavenward by mild, persuasive influences, rather than to drive them thither by the thunders of
the Word. The sermon which he now
delivered was marked by the

Biblical Hermeneutics Essay
Biblical Hermeneutics
By: Rev. Clint A. Starnes
September 7th, 2013
In its most basic definition, biblical hermeneutics refers to the art and science of biblical
interpretation. It is considered an art because understanding, which is required for interpretation,
requires a feel for the subject matter being interpreted, not just an analyzation of data. Biblical
hermeneutics is also considered a science due to the fact that some aspects of the interpretation
process resemble the activities of natural science. Because of this dual nature of hermeneutics, it is
almost impossible for an interpreter to arrive at a neutral conclusion. Good or bad, most biblical
interpreters translate scripture based upon ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A scholar of this school of thought, Theodore of Mopsuestia, stated that the primary method for
interpreting Scripture should be the grammatical historical method. This method stated that a text
should be interpreted according to the rules of grammar and the facts of history. The exegetical
principles of this school of thought laid the groundwork for modern exegesis. Augustine, who lived
from A.D. 354 430, was a genius in certain aspects of biblical exegesis. He was part of the Western
School of interpretation. He developed significant theories of biblical interpretation such as: the
interpreter must possess a genuine Christian faith the literal and historical meaning of Scripture should
be held in high regard, to name a few. Unfortunately, Augustine forsook most of his own principles
and tended to follow a method of allegorization. His theories, however, became the predominant view
of the middle ages.
3
The period known as Medieval Exegesis lasted from approximately A.D. 600 1500. Little original
exegesis was done, with most biblical students concentrating on compiling the works of the patriarchal
exegetes. During this period however, a four fold meaning of Scripture, originally developed by
Augustine, became the primary method of biblical interpretation. The principles of this method stated
that in each passage of Scripture there were four meanings, letter, allegory, moral, and anagogy
(eschatological). During this

Essay on Symbollism in Goodman Brown
Symbollism in Goodman Brown The Symbolism in Nathan Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown
begins before the story starts. The first sign of symbolism is in the title of the story. The word young is
used in saying that Mr. Brown is young in his marriage and in his maturity. The next word Goodman
was a term used in Hawthorne s day as a man under a gentleman. This fits Mr. Brown because he is no
one special, only to his friends and family.
Symbolism is strewn throughout the story in what seems like every word. In the beginning of the
story, the phrase Faith, as the wife was so aptly named shows that the word Faith is not only his wife s
name, rather it is also the Faith one must have to believe in religion. Mr. Brown s ... Show more

When he meets the devil, He is told that he is late. As if they were supposed to meet. This could be
related to people having there certain time to meet Death as it were. Mr. Brown does not question
there meeting, rather he says that Faith held him back. Faith is used again as a symbol. The first being
that his wife Faith held him back. The other being that faith in God held him back from going to the
Devil.
As Mr. Brown goes deeper in the forest with the Devil, he notices his staff which resembles a serpent.
This is obviously a literary allegory to the story of Adam and Eve in the bible in which a serpent, the
most slyest and keen of all animals, convinces Eve to eat from the tree of knowledge. This seems like
a symbol where later on in the story, When Mr. Brown is deeper in the forest, he learns things about
the people in the town that he never knew, nor did he want to know.
As Mr. Brown goes farther into the forest with the Devil, the Devil begins to use people that Mr.
Brown knows to break him. First by saying that he was with his father while burning witches in earlier
years, also by showing him Goody Close in the forest picking up the staff that the Devil throws down
at her feet without any argument. Seeing this breaks him but he still is strong. Finally he hears the
voices of Deacon Gookin and the minister. They are talking about going to a meeting deep within the
forest. Mr. Brown knows nothing of any church

Ethics Of Drones Essay
Drones or unmanned aircraft are like a hammer or gun. They are tools. They are not inherently good
or bad. How they are used becomes the ethical issue at hand. Drones have a broad spectrum of wage;
from the delivery of pizza, to weather forecasting, to weapons platforms in armed conflict. It is the
purpose of this paper to show the use of drones in warfare is necessary and can be ethically justified
using the principles of both deontology and utilitarianism. The fact that drones are remotely
controlled, sometimes from great distances, does not remove the operators from responsibility, no
more than the bullet fired from a gun, it is still the responsibility of the soldier who fired it. Fighting
against groups who oppress their citizens through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Deontology would say that it, is the pilot s choice to attack a known target or no to attack a known
target. Michael Bergmann advises this would be distinction between objective and subjective moral
duties he also notes this is fairy common (Bergmann). I liken this to the choices the pilot believes they
are in possession of, versus the reality of the choices they ultimately have. Deontologicaly speaking
the pilot would only be held responsible for the good or wrongness of their actions alone. For
example, if a pilot controlling a drone was sent to back up allied troops pinned down by enemy fire
and fired two missiles with the first missile striking and neutralizing the enemy combatants. This
would be a good thing. However if that second missile missed the target and hit a building where it is
unknown if the occupant inside are hostile, it is still a justified use of the drone to defeat an enemy and
the drone pilot would not held responsible for unforeseen collateral

A Brief Note On P2p Vs. P2p
4.1 Description:
A peer to peer (P2P) network is created when two or more PCs are connected and share resources
without going through a separate server computer. A P2P network can be an ad hoc connection a
couple of computers connected via a Universal Serial Bus to transfer files. Peer to peer (P2P)
networking is the networking between the same type of devices. Peers are equally privileged. P2P is
an alternative network model to that provided by traditional client server architecture. In a P2P
network, every machine plays the role of client and server at the same time.
Peer to peer (P2P) is a decentralized communications model in which each party has the same
capabilities and either party can initiate a communication session. Unlike the client/server model, in
which the client makes a service request and the server fulfills the request, the P2P network model
allows each node to function as both a client and server.
In a peer to peer (P2P) network, every machine plays the role of client and server at the same time.
Although a P2P network has a number of advantages over the traditional client server model in terms
of efficiency and fault tolerance, additional security threats can be introduced. Users and IT
administrators need to be aware of the risks from propagation of malicious code, the legality of
downloaded content, and vulnerabilities within peer to peer software. Security and preventative
measures should be implemented to protect from any potential leakage of

Stereotypes Of Popular Music Since The 1950 s
Since the 1950s, popular music has been widely criticized for contributing to a variety of problematic
behaviors among adolescents (Brown). The new styles of music was important and often blamed for
causing teen rebellion, as the songs of this era were considered inappropriate and the main cause of
teens negative behavior; such as constant drinking and the abusing of alcohol use, drug use, and the
act of being extremely violent toward one another. Famous musical artist such as Elvis Presley and the
Beatles were usually associated with this rebellion. The Parents Music Resource Center blamed music
for teen behavior, and eventually had parental advisory labels put on certain music packaging. It

The Following Treatment Plan Will Look At The Jarrett...
The following treatment plan will look at the Jarrett family, an upper class family that struggles with
the death of the oldest son, Buck. After the last harsh confrontation with her husband (Calvin), Beth
decided to run away to Houston and leave the family. Without knowing if Beth wants to come back,
Calvin and Conrad join therapy to face this delicate situation. By considering this information, our
treatment plan will look at their family dynamics from three theoretical perspectives: Bowenian family
therapy, Structural Family therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Family Therapy.
Step 1: Select a Problem List
Calvin and Conrad express their concerns in term of lack of relationship with Beth. Conrad thinks he
is responsible and guilty in regarding of her mother s decision to leave to Texas. He also blames her
mother to be neglectful, hostile, and coward. Besides, Conrad mentions that he is unable to re
establish friendships with Joe, Kevin, and other members of the swimming team.
Calvin thinks that Beth s unwillingness to come back and join them in therapy is a threat to their
relationship. He describes himself as powerless and abandoned by her. Also, Calvin is worried about
Conrad well being. He believes Conrad is too sensitive and does not want he blames himself as the
reason for the marriage crisis.

and athletic motives. Most college students know of someone who abuses one of these drugs with the
most common being cognition enhancers like Adderall and Ritalin. (Greely 2008) These medications

buying and selling of these drugs. Their purpose for using is to have an advantage over their peers,

demands in schooling increase, there is a prevalent increase in the need for cognition enhancers to
gain an advantage in the academic setting. Cognition enhancers used by healthy students is mainly
focused in the academic side of college campuses. However, they are also abused in other competitive
settings such as athletics. Athletes use drugs like Adderall to battle their fatigue when playing in
games and during practices. This illegal act can lead to athletes being suspended, losing scholarships,
and being fined. Many times, in masculine sports, the use of performance enhancing drugs can be
more expected in male athletes. These athletes rely on their athletic performance as a sense of identity
and feel more pressured to accomplish their athletic goals. Nonmedical use of Adderall was seen
highest in wrestling and lacrosse which are masculine sports that have high expectations. Females had
no particular sport associated with the use of Adderall. This shows a link between higher contact
sports and the nonmedical use of Adderall. (Veliz 2015) Athletes don t just use cognition enhancers on
the field, but many student athletes take the medications after games or practices to be

Great Smog Of London And The Scientific Implications In...
The Great Smog of London and the Scientific Implications in Today s World
Turn of the century London, the emergence of the middle class has forced the cultural bias to shift in
favor of more homes, more people, and a lot of energy consumption. Science s solution to the energy
crisis is a seemingly perfect one: distribute and utilize a more available fuel. Coal burned slower than
wood and therefore kept people and homes warm more resourcefully. For a while it seemed like a
miracle solution. The industrialization of the previous age had been using coal as well, and when the
air became polluted with the factory and energy refuse, the smog was swept away in a matter of hours
(Kilen, C.) That went on until early winter of 1952. That fall had been an unusually cold one, and the
coal had been burning day and night. The factories had been chugging on, and the black smoke kept
rolling. The process by which factories burn coal is as follows: the coal is blown into the furnace
where it burns while still airborne. The heat is used to warm water, which then produces steam, which
spines a turbine. The factories that burn coal now use methods to slightly lessen the pollution, such as
wet limestone to absorb the sulfur (How Coal Works, Union of Concerned Scientists, p.4). This
particular winter, though, the pollutants would not be swept away as they had been in the past. This is
due to the fact that on this particularly cold December, an inversion occurred over the city of London.

High Dopamine Research Paper
Dopamine is a neurotransmitter in the brain that is extremely important in the functions of movement,
memory, pleasurable reward, behavior and cognition, attention, inhibition of prolactin production,
sleep, mood, and learning (Mandal, 2015). There are consequences of having too much or too little of
dopamine in the body; it can cause several disease conditions such as Parkinson s disease and drug
addiction. According to Dr Anaya Mandal, dopamine is produced in the dopaminergic neurons in the
ventral tegmental area (VTA) of the midbrain, the substantia nigra pars compacta, and the arcuate
nucleus of the hypothalamus . Basal ganglia is part of the brain that controls and regulates movement

It is said to be what makes us human because it makes us smart, able to plan ahead, and resist
impulses (Deans, 2011). Since dopamine is a neurotransmitter, it means that it controls communication
in the brain. Chemically dopamine, is able to tell a neuron to fire off a signal or not, and it can also
modify the signals. Dopamine is extremely old it was found in lizards brains and most all animals
reaching the homo sapiens. Dopamine has elevated levels in the left hemisphere of the brain which is
supposedly because of prenatal neurochemical environment. When a women is pregnant her being
upright helps expose the fetal brain to different elements than other primates, which explains the
higher levels of dopamine in the left side of human s brain than other primates. Over time dopamine
has evolved more and more as we have evolved (Deans, 2011).
We get dopamine through eating amino acid. The amino acid is called tyrosine, and through a
chemical reaction it becomes dopamine. If people don t have dopamine or inefficient dopamine it can
cause mental retardation. Too much dopamine in the wrong place can make you psychotic. Drugs such
as cocaine and methamphetamines can cause euphoria, aggression, and intense sexual feelings

H C Studebaker
In early 1852 in South Bend, Indiana, Henry and Clement Studebaker operated a blacksmith shop
where they made metal parts for freight wagons. Unsatisfied with their occupation, the brothers sought
to become entrepreneurs and thus H C Studebaker, an American wagon and automobile manufacturer,
was founded in February of 1852. While their initial profits were from small orders such as horseshoes
and replacement parts for wagons, their true success came from production of wagons for the United
States Army in 1857 when they produced 100 wagons in 6 months. In April of 1858, their younger
brother John Mohler, a.k.a. J.M., joined the business as the primary investor of H C Studebaker and

Why We Should Study Chimpanzees
Animals such as chimpanzees have rights. Even though they may not be humans, they are living
creatures. Jane Goodall watches the videotape of chimpanzees which inspires her to visit them. She
decides to go visit them and later finds out how depressed the chimpanzees were. They were living in
small cages with nothing to do. No toys, no being around any other chimpanzees, nothing. Jane then
visits another lab where only baby chimps were playing around with toys and other chimpanzees, but
the older chimps were trapped inside cages. People who work with lab animals should understand the
animal s behaviors. Whether it s good or bad, knowing this should be mandatory when people work
with them. Since chimpanzees are smart, similar to humans,

Social Realism And The Works Of Literature
.
Chapter 1
Introduction
Literature has thousands threads which can weave the beautiful piece of art each time thread has its
own importance in the creative work. In the same way, there are different narratives techniques for the
narration in literature. Among those narrative techniques, Realism in literature, is an approach that
attempts to describe life without Idealization or Romantic subjectivity. Social realism also known as
Socio Realism, is an artistic movement, expressed which mainly depicts working class activities.
Social realism in the plays are the representative of real life, with all its difficulties. The stories and
people portrayed are every day characters, usually from working class background. Typically, plays
within the social realist canon are gritty, urban dramas about the struggle to survive the daily grind.
An art movement, that refers to the work of writers, painters, and filmmakers is known as Social
Realism. The artists draw attention to the everyday conditions of the working classes and the poor, and
are critical of the social structures that maintain these poor conditions. While the movement s artistic
styles vary from nation to nation, it almost always uses a form of descriptive or critical realism.
Social Realism developed as a reaction

The Beauty Of The Barbie Fashion Doll
Humans by nature want what they can t get. It s true, we as a species are materialistic. Many of us
want the fastest cars, the biggest houses, the heftiest paychecks, the coolest clothes, and the hottest
bodies. We are also incredibly impressionable; one Budweiser commercial, for example, may
convince us to go out and buy Budweiser brand beer. An Apple commercial can inadvertently coax
thousands of average citizens to drop what they are doing, camp for days outside of the local Best
Buy, and wait impatiently to purchase the newest iPhone which includes the newest, most overrated
feature to date. Even the toys we manufacture perpetuate this endless cycle of unnecessary wants and
desires.
According to that archaic proverb, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It s ironic how we hear and
repeat this phrase all the time yet we don t practice what we preach. A good example of this can be
found with the popularity of the Barbie fashion doll. Something as simple as a piece of plastic with
fake hair, exaggerated body features, and miniature outfits can instill in young girls across the world
the standard of beauty . With this fragile, impressionable persona that we have engrained in women
over time, it seems as if we are driving them to their own demise. Through the use of modern day
media, toys, and fashion, we have been betraying women across the globe by mistreatment,
underrepresentation, and by sexualizing them.
We blatantly sexualize and misrepresent women with the toys we

Legal Positivists And Natural Law
An unjust law cannot be a valid law In the light of Natural Law and Positivist theories, assess the
accuracy of the above statement. To what extent are legal positivists and natural law theorists accurate
in terms of the idea that an unjust law cannot be a valid law ? In this essay i will attempt to define the
concept of the validity of law in relation to both natural law theorists and positivist theorists. For the
purpose of this essay I will define validity of a law as Having legal force; effective or binding (The
Free Dictionary). The main reason for the continual debate between both theories is that they are both
very similar although they may appear to be at contrary ends of each spectrum. Natural law theorists
believe that in order for a law to be valid it must have some moral principle therefore if laws which
are enacted in statues have no authority, they are not moral. Whereas positivists support and
emphasise the importance of a division between morality and law. I will begin by outlining both
theories. I will then move onto asses the accuracy of the following statement, An unjust law cannot be
a valid law this includes establishing the similarities and differences of both theories; in order to do
this effectively it is essential that a thorough understanding of both theories has been developed.
Finally I will summarise my findings, An unjust law cannot be a valid law true or false? The first
question we need to address in order to be able to assess this

Use Of Irony In The Gift Of The Magi

Mrs. Rude
Honors English 1
3 October 2014
Everybody loves Christmas. The suspense of not knowing what is under the wrapping paper drives us
absolutely wild. The joy of spending time with family, friends, and your significant other is the best!
But why do loved ones give each other gifts? In O Henry s short story The Gift of the Magi, two
young lovers sacrifice their own most prized possessions to get the other a Christmas gift. Ironically,
each one gets the other a gift to be used for their prized possession; however, the gifts cannot be used
because they no longer have any use. Author O Henry uses irony to enhance, or magnify, the true
meaning of Christmas: to selflessly give to someone you love to show your love for them.

were the wisest in the sense that they sacrificed their own most prized possessions to give to the other.
And here I have related to you the uneventful chronicle of two foolish children in a flat who most
unwisely sacrificed for each other the greatest treasures of their house. (Page 251) The narrator claims
that Della and Jim unwisely gave up their valuables to display their love for one another. But in a last
word to the wise of these days, let it be said that of all who gives gifts there two were the wisest. Of all
who give and receive gifts such as they are wisest. Everywhere they are the wisest. They are the magi.
(Page 251) The whole theme of the story is stated here by the narrator. He alludes to the Magi, or
wisemen who bring the best gifts, but the narrator stated that Jim and Della gave the best gift of all,
and they are wiser than the Magi. Besides the fact that Jim and Della were wise to sacrifice their own
prized possessions for each other, the way that they handled the situation and still loved each other
after shows true wisdom. After all, Christmas is about loving your loved

Digital Immigrants And Digital Technology
Technology is advancing and becoming complex in our society, as it propels our daily lives. In
learning environments such as schools, most students are able to acknowledge the learning differences
between themselves and their teachers. These differences occur because a student is more likely to be
a digital native, whereas the teacher is considered to group with digital immigrants. Digital
immigrants are those who are able to understand the relevance of technology, but choose to utilize it
differently. However, digital natives are those who are born in a generation in which technology is at

Digital immigrants, those who are born in the era of writing letters and finding research from literal

of time kids this generation spend on technology shows that children and teenagers ages 8 to 18 are
accustomed to technology that that they on average spend twice as much time with screens each year
(Richtel, 2014, p. 4). The increased amount of time using technology is able to impact the brains

Cinematic Techniques In American Beauty
I utilize two scenes from the movie American Beauty, the two office scenes including Lester (Kevin

which is the term used to portray everything put into the scene . I concentrate on decor, lighting and
props, costumes, body language (e.g., posture, gestures and facial expressions) and composition. I
additionally take a gander at how these components are confined as far as camera stature, camera

The Theory Of The Discontinuity Effect Between Japan And...
A number of research have proven that people commonly assumed that intergroup relationships are
more competitive than of interindividual ones, and they also experience competitive intergroup
contacts more often in their daily lives. Kosuke Takemura and Masaki Yuki of Hokkaido University in
Sapporo, Japan conducted an experimental research to test the theory of the discontinuity effect
existing in East Asia as it does in the United States, wherein the participants played a 10 trial prisoner
s dilemma game repeatedly. They initially believed that if East Asians are collectivists, then a group of
East Asians should be more competitive than East Asians individually, and that the discontinuity effect
should be stronger than what was perceived in the United States. This study was an attempt to imitate
Insko et al. s experiment (1990) but using a Japanese sample. The purpose of this was revealed to be
to observe the cross cultural difference, or lack thereof, in the magnitude of the discontinuity effect
between Japan and the United States.
In the experiment, one hundred and sixty (134 male, 26 female) Japanese students from Hokkaido
University participated, which they were randomly drawn from a pool of roughly 1500 students who
volunteered. The experimenters compared the assessments made between two 3 person groups in an
intergroup condition with those made between two characters in the same condition. Hence, each

Open Door Policies, Roosevelts Corollary, And The Dollar...
Imperialism Used by the U.S. America had the mindset that it was their destiny and inevitable to

The U.S. government used many known approaches in order to gain control over other countries.
Some foreign policies that were enacted was the two Open Door Policies, Roosevelts Corollary, and

III. Results During the Holocaust, doctors had free reign to do whatever they wanted to any prisoner at
any of the concentration camps. The majority of the prisoners were to be sent to the gas chambers and
killed, so the doctors justified their torturous experiments by saying the patients were fated to die
anyways. Thus, instead of doing their job, instead of bringing assistance and comfort to the sick
people who needed them most, instead of helping the mutilated and the handicapped to live, eat, and
hope one more day, one more hour, doctors became their executioners (Spitz 191). When men and
women become doctors they take a vow. In this vow they state to keep the sick from harm and
injustice and to never give any patient a deadly drug. The doctors of the Holocaust simply must have
come to the conclusion that this vow, that they were required to make, no longer applied to them and
the prisoners they were treating . As I conducted my own research on these doctors, I found that there
was one doctor in particular who stood out among the others. A doctor much crueler than the rest,
Josef Mengele. He was known as Auschwitz s own Angel of death . Wherever he sprang up, Death

Literature Review On Teachers Using Inquiry-Based...
There have not been many significant literature reviews about teachers using inquiry based
instructional strategies to teach science and to plan units and meet curriculum demands. However,
most literature that was found suggests that teachers that use instructional strategies in their unit plans
and lessons give teachers an opportunity to meet curriculum demands. Doing unit plans and lessons
with an inquiry based approach works very well because of limited time elementary teachers have. A
lot of times teacher can create integrated or cross curricular unit plans, which helps meet the demands
of the curriculum. Developed in the 1960 s, many teachers see inquiry based learning as a new

inquiry based thinking processes by posing different kinds of questions. This is to help students to
internalize and ask themselves as they learn to become independent problem solvers. Ontario Science
Centre (2016) Guido (2017) talk about four types of inquiry based strategies which vary in different
classrooms with the first type being different. However, both authors discuss structured inquiry,
guided inquiry and open inquiry. The Ontario Science Centre (2016) Ontario Ministry of Education
(2013) Guido (2017) argue that teachers may choose to use one inquiry strategy or a combination
before asking students to share their questions about a topic. For example, Guido (2017) talks about
different inquiry based strategies that teachers can use to stimulate curiosity such as providing hands

Local Religious Freedom Restoration Act
Local Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA) are controversial in nature, because while they
pretend to use the excuse to protect the free exercise of religion, intrinsically it is an avenue to attack
same sex marriages which have been ruled constitutional by most circuit appellate courts in the United
States. Currently the Supreme Court is hearing the cases that might ultimately decide the faith of
marriage equality. United States v. Windsor opened the door for most federal appellate jurisdictions
and some states to rule that prohibiting same sex marriage was constitutional, on the basis of the 14th
Amendment equal protection clause. Despite this decision, the right to marriage is not an explicit
protection addressed by the Constitution, and is often seen as a right delegated to the States under the
10th Amendment. On the other hand the free exercise clause is part of the First Amendment, and
protects people from doing things that violate their religious principle, for example a Christian doctor
from performing an abortion. The article from New York Times in which Louisiana Governor Bobby
Jindal is an attempt to legitimize that RFRA plays an important place in protecting the free exercise of
religion of people and the power to authorize or prohibit same sex marriage rest on the states police
powers under the 10th Amendment. While a majority of Americans nowadays sympathize with gay
people and equality marriage it is a more difficult questions to address in the context

Analog and Digital Signal
ANALOG AND DIGITAL SIGNAL
1.1 Analog signal
An analog or analogue signal is any continuous signal for which the time varying feature (variable) of
the signal is a representation of some other time varying quantity, i.e., analog to another time varying
signal. For example, in an analog audio signal, the instantaneous voltage of the signal varies
continuously with the pressure of the sound waves. It differs from a digital signal, in which a
continuous quantity is represented by a discrete function which can only take on one of a finite
number of values. The term analog signal usually refers to electrical signals; however, mechanical,
hydraulic, and other systems may also convey analog signals.
An analog signal uses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In computer architecture and other digital systems, a waveform that switches between two voltage
levels representing the two states of a Boolean value (0 and 1) is referred to as a digital signal, even
though it is an analog voltage waveform, since it is interpreted in terms of only two levels.
1.3 Difference between digital and analog signal

1. It produces a continuous signal.
2. Signal that is continuous in a time and can assume an infinite number of values in a given range.
3. It is denoted by sine wave.
4. Analog hardware is not flexible.
5. It Store data in the form of wave signal.
6. Analog instrument consume more power.
7. It is of low cost and portable. For e.g.: thermometer.

Recommendations For Prevention And Mitigation
Recommendations for Prevention/Mitigation
Many ports do not have cyber response plans contained within broader risk plans (Kramek). All of the
ports studied by Kramek had a dedicated security officer and a dedicated IT staff, but the security
officers focus usually remained on traditional physical security threats, and IT was a separate and
distinct department from security (Kramek). Kramek states, cyber security threats were not part of the
security officer s response portfolio . Most security officers thought that their IT staff would notify
them in some form or fashion if a cyber incident threatened port operations (Kramek). However, when
during the response this notification to the security officers would be made is unclear given the lack of
written response plans (Kramek). Ports need their IT department to be continually communicating
with their security department. This would keep all the staff in the loop on current difficulties and
security impairments and allow staff to find a cyber incident before it becomes too bad. Ports need to
make sure that they have thorough written response plans in the case of a cyber security incident and
that all IT and security staff that will be involved are ready to execute the plan if needed. These plans
need to take into account that many industrial control systems are dependent, like many systems at
ports and marine terminals, and run off computer networks (Sain). As stated by Bethann Rooney,
manager of security for the Port

The Battered Women s Movement
In the early days of the battered women s movement, feminists wanted to establish new forms of
structural organization by distancing themselves from the hierarchy of mainstream institutions.
However, one of the problems radical feminists had was the funding of their autonomous institutions.
Feminists faced the challenge of creating autonomous institutions that would engage with mainstream
institutions (Reinelt and Ferree, 73). While liberal feminists wanted to reform existing political
institutions, radical feminists were in favor of organizing alternative autonomous institutions.
Although more battered women s shelters started to form due to the support of local and state
governments, radical activists feared that these shelters would become

Is Shakespeare s Monologues And Soliloquie In Romeo And...
Shakespeare is renowned for his powerful monologues and soliloquies; from Romeo and Juliet s
lamenting beginning, as well as Hamlet s dreary end. Richard III is no different, the opening speech in
the beginning tells the audience Richard s immediate intentions; an action deliberately made by
Shakespeare. By introducing the play this way it gives the reader a sneak inside the man s wicked
soul, giving no doubt to the evil that is about to happen. Much like in Romeo and Juliet, the plot or
plan, rather is explained and then the tale begins. By putting the action at the beginning, Shakespeare
ensures that he has captured the audience s immediate interest by showcasing a corrupted man s inner
thoughts. Richard is deeply infatuated with power, and he craves war and death alike. That is what the
speech tells the audience, and when reading the speech aloud, it is very easily noted the amount of
rage and jealousy that is laced through every word. Though Richard says that they are in a current
time of peace, he feels none. He wants no part in the tranquility that has been brought to the land since
the end of the War. What the man wants is conflict instead going as far as insulting death and war
itself. Richard personifies war, saying that it has gone and joined in the festivities of the day and has
found love. In that instant, Richard is jealous of it, for he says that love will not find him because he is
deformed. For this reason, Richard is plagued with the very

Siella Kingdom
1. I believe one of the most important factor that contributed to Silla s unification of the Three
Kingdom is their strength and their allies. Even though the title is Three Kingdoms, there were several
smaller states which included the Kaya and Puyo. According to page 30 of A History of Korea , the
Kaya states were quite wealthy as they took an active role in commerce and iron production. However,
they failed to become a larger kingdom which made it easier for the Silla to take over. As for Puyo,
they disappeared even earlier. The main three kingdoms were Silla, Koguryo, and Paekche. On page
28 29, Seth implies that Koguryo was a powerful kingdom that often took over nearby cities. In 660,
the Tang were frustrated by the power of the Koguryo, and came ... Show more content on

After defeating Paekche, the Tang went after Koguryo and defeated them. They offered Silla to
become a powerful territory of China, but the Silla refused. Instead, they took over the Chinese
controlled land! They were able to defeat the Tang and gain control of many territories (page 44 45).
What made Silla so powerful? According to page 39, they relied on their social and political systems.
Their systems includes bone rank system, the Hwabaek, and hwarang. They were also other factors
that contributed to the unification of the Three Kingdoms by Silla. On page 55, Seth states that the
political and military structure provided a stable and effective government, which carried the country s
expansion. They also had long prosperity, strong economic base, and ways to support their huge
military. The geography also played an important part. Koguryo was dealing with wars on the
northwestern and southern boundaries while Paekche s weak spot to Koguryo was the north. It was
also weak against Silla in the south and China from the sea. Silla was in the southeast corner and had
easier boundaries to defeat. It was also out of reach from direct assault from China (page

Definition Of Poverty
There are a number of definitions of poverty. It is a multifaceted notion which includes social,
economic, and political components. How we define poverty is critical to politics, policy and
academic debates about the concept. It is bound up with explanations and has implications for
solutions. (Lister, 2004 as cited in Class notes, 2017). The United Nations, first established in 1945
shortly after the second world war, was created to promote international co operation and maintain
international order (UN, 2017). The global term for poverty is defined by using the Gross National
Product (GNP) and Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Both defined by the World Bank, GNP uses
market valuations to measure national income: GNP per capita (each person) gives an indication of the
typical material living standards of a nation, whereas, GDP is a measure of the total market value of
goods and services output and their economic activity. The United Nations set the bar at the minimum
daily income of $1.25 (93 pence) per day (Class notes, 2017). If you are living on less than this you
are classed as living in absolute poverty. How poverty is measured is a contested concept and has had
researchers long trying to establish a fixed method of determining. The four main concepts are
absolute poverty, relative poverty and deprivation, consensual poverty, and social exclusion (Class
notes, 2017). The concept of absolute poverty was developed in the 19th century by Joseph Rowntree
and was

  • 2. The Minister’s Black Veil – Solitude Essay The Minister s Black Veil Solitude Henry Seidel Canby in A Skeptic Incompatible with His Time and His Past explains regarding the solitude of Nathaniel Hawthorne: His reserve and love of solitude were the defenses of an imagination formed by peculiar circumstances and playing upon circumstances still more peculiar (55). Let us explore in this essay the solitude within The Minister s Black Veil and its author. Herman Melville in Hawthorne and His Mosses (in Literary World, August 17, 24, 1850) comments on how the writer is seen by others: But it is the least part of genius that attracts admiration. Where Hawthorne is known, he seems to be deemed a pleasant writer, with a pleasant style, a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the outset of the tale, The Minister s Black Veil, the sexton is tolling the church bell and simultaneously watching Mr. Hooper s door, when suddenly he says, ``But what has good Parson Hooper got upon his face? The surprise which the sexton displayed is repeated in the astonishment of the onlookers: With one accord they started, expressing more wonder. . . The reason is this: Swathed about his forehead, and hanging down over his face, so low as to be shaken by his breath is a black veil. The 30 year old, unmarried parson receives a variety of reactions from his congregation: ``I can t really feel as if good Mr. Hooper s face was behind that piece of crape ``He has changed himself into something awful, only by hiding his face ``Our parson has gone mad! Few could refrain from twisting their heads towards the door. . . . . . . more than one woman of delicate nerves was forced to leave the meeting house. Hawthorne, after exposing the surprised people to the sable veil, develops the protagonist through a description of some of his less exotic and curious characteristics: Mr. Hooper had the reputation of a good preacher, but not an energetic one: he strove to win his people heavenward by mild, persuasive influences, rather than to drive them thither by the thunders of the Word. The sermon which he now delivered was marked by the

  • 4. Biblical Hermeneutics Essay Biblical Hermeneutics By: Rev. Clint A. Starnes September 7th, 2013 In its most basic definition, biblical hermeneutics refers to the art and science of biblical interpretation. It is considered an art because understanding, which is required for interpretation, requires a feel for the subject matter being interpreted, not just an analyzation of data. Biblical hermeneutics is also considered a science due to the fact that some aspects of the interpretation process resemble the activities of natural science. Because of this dual nature of hermeneutics, it is almost impossible for an interpreter to arrive at a neutral conclusion. Good or bad, most biblical interpreters translate scripture based upon ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A scholar of this school of thought, Theodore of Mopsuestia, stated that the primary method for interpreting Scripture should be the grammatical historical method. This method stated that a text should be interpreted according to the rules of grammar and the facts of history. The exegetical principles of this school of thought laid the groundwork for modern exegesis. Augustine, who lived from A.D. 354 430, was a genius in certain aspects of biblical exegesis. He was part of the Western School of interpretation. He developed significant theories of biblical interpretation such as: the interpreter must possess a genuine Christian faith the literal and historical meaning of Scripture should be held in high regard, to name a few. Unfortunately, Augustine forsook most of his own principles and tended to follow a method of allegorization. His theories, however, became the predominant view of the middle ages. 3 The period known as Medieval Exegesis lasted from approximately A.D. 600 1500. Little original exegesis was done, with most biblical students concentrating on compiling the works of the patriarchal exegetes. During this period however, a four fold meaning of Scripture, originally developed by Augustine, became the primary method of biblical interpretation. The principles of this method stated that in each passage of Scripture there were four meanings, letter, allegory, moral, and anagogy (eschatological). During this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Essay on Symbollism in Goodman Brown Symbollism in Goodman Brown The Symbolism in Nathan Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown begins before the story starts. The first sign of symbolism is in the title of the story. The word young is used in saying that Mr. Brown is young in his marriage and in his maturity. The next word Goodman was a term used in Hawthorne s day as a man under a gentleman. This fits Mr. Brown because he is no one special, only to his friends and family. Symbolism is strewn throughout the story in what seems like every word. In the beginning of the story, the phrase Faith, as the wife was so aptly named shows that the word Faith is not only his wife s name, rather it is also the Faith one must have to believe in religion. Mr. Brown s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When he meets the devil, He is told that he is late. As if they were supposed to meet. This could be related to people having there certain time to meet Death as it were. Mr. Brown does not question there meeting, rather he says that Faith held him back. Faith is used again as a symbol. The first being that his wife Faith held him back. The other being that faith in God held him back from going to the Devil. As Mr. Brown goes deeper in the forest with the Devil, he notices his staff which resembles a serpent. This is obviously a literary allegory to the story of Adam and Eve in the bible in which a serpent, the most slyest and keen of all animals, convinces Eve to eat from the tree of knowledge. This seems like a symbol where later on in the story, When Mr. Brown is deeper in the forest, he learns things about the people in the town that he never knew, nor did he want to know. As Mr. Brown goes farther into the forest with the Devil, the Devil begins to use people that Mr. Brown knows to break him. First by saying that he was with his father while burning witches in earlier years, also by showing him Goody Close in the forest picking up the staff that the Devil throws down at her feet without any argument. Seeing this breaks him but he still is strong. Finally he hears the voices of Deacon Gookin and the minister. They are talking about going to a meeting deep within the forest. • 7. Ethics Of Drones Essay Drones or unmanned aircraft are like a hammer or gun. They are tools. They are not inherently good or bad. How they are used becomes the ethical issue at hand. Drones have a broad spectrum of wage; from the delivery of pizza, to weather forecasting, to weapons platforms in armed conflict. It is the purpose of this paper to show the use of drones in warfare is necessary and can be ethically justified using the principles of both deontology and utilitarianism. The fact that drones are remotely controlled, sometimes from great distances, does not remove the operators from responsibility, no more than the bullet fired from a gun, it is still the responsibility of the soldier who fired it. Deontology would say that it, is the pilot s choice to attack a known target or no to attack a known target. Michael Bergmann advises this would be distinction between objective and subjective moral duties he also notes this is fairy common (Bergmann). I liken this to the choices the pilot believes they are in possession of, versus the reality of the choices they ultimately have. Deontologicaly speaking the pilot would only be held responsible for the good or wrongness of their actions alone. For example, if a pilot controlling a drone was sent to back up allied troops pinned down by enemy fire and fired two missiles with the first missile striking and neutralizing the enemy combatants. This would be a good thing. However if that second missile missed the target and hit a building where it is unknown if the occupant inside are hostile, it is still a justified use of the drone to defeat an enemy and the drone pilot would not held responsible for unforeseen collateral ... • 8. A Brief Note On P2p Vs. P2p 4.1 Description: A peer to peer (P2P) network is created when two or more PCs are connected and share resources without going through a separate server computer. A P2P network can be an ad hoc connection a couple of computers connected via a Universal Serial Bus to transfer files. Peer to peer (P2P) networking is the networking between the same type of devices. Peers are equally privileged. P2P is an alternative network model to that provided by traditional client server architecture. In a P2P network, every machine plays the role of client and server at the same time. Peer to peer (P2P) is a decentralized communications model in which each party has the same capabilities and either party can initiate a communication session. Unlike the client/server model, in which the client makes a service request and the server fulfills the request, the P2P network model allows each node to function as both a client and server. In a peer to peer (P2P) network, every machine plays the role of client and server at the same time. Although a P2P network has a number of advantages over the traditional client server model in terms of efficiency and fault tolerance, additional security threats can be introduced. Users and IT administrators need to be aware of the risks from propagation of malicious code, the legality of downloaded content, and vulnerabilities within peer to peer software. Security and preventative measures should be implemented to protect from any potential leakage of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. Great Smog Of London And The Scientific Implications In... The Great Smog of London and the Scientific Implications in Today s World Turn of the century London, the emergence of the middle class has forced the cultural bias to shift in favor of more homes, more people, and a lot of energy consumption. Science s solution to the energy crisis is a seemingly perfect one: distribute and utilize a more available fuel. Coal burned slower than wood and therefore kept people and homes warm more resourcefully. For a while it seemed like a miracle solution. The industrialization of the previous age had been using coal as well, and when the air became polluted with the factory and energy refuse, the smog was swept away in a matter of hours (Kilen, C.) That went on until early winter of 1952. That fall had been an unusually cold one, and the coal had been burning day and night. The factories had been chugging on, and the black smoke kept rolling. The process by which factories burn coal is as follows: the coal is blown into the furnace where it burns while still airborne. The heat is used to warm water, which then produces steam, which spines a turbine. The factories that burn coal now use methods to slightly lessen the pollution, such as wet limestone to absorb the sulfur (How Coal Works, Union of Concerned Scientists, p.4). This particular winter, though, the pollutants would not be swept away as they had been in the past. This is due to the fact that on this particularly cold December, an inversion occurred over the city of London. An ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Since dopamine is a neurotransmitter, it means that it controls communication in the brain. Chemically dopamine, is able to tell a neuron to fire off a signal or not, and it can also modify the signals. Dopamine is extremely old it was found in lizards brains and most all animals reaching the homo sapiens. Dopamine has elevated levels in the left hemisphere of the brain which is supposedly because of prenatal neurochemical environment. When a women is pregnant her being upright helps expose the fetal brain to different elements than other primates, which explains the higher levels of dopamine in the left side of human s brain than other primates. Over time dopamine has evolved more and more as we have evolved (Deans, 2011). We get dopamine through eating amino acid. The amino acid is called tyrosine, and through a chemical reaction it becomes dopamine. If people don t have dopamine or inefficient dopamine it can cause mental retardation. • 31. The Beauty Of The Barbie Fashion Doll Humans by nature want what they can t get. It s true, we as a species are materialistic. Many of us want the fastest cars, the biggest houses, the heftiest paychecks, the coolest clothes, and the hottest bodies. We are also incredibly impressionable; one Budweiser commercial, for example, may convince us to go out and buy Budweiser brand beer. An Apple commercial can inadvertently coax thousands of average citizens to drop what they are doing, camp for days outside of the local Best Buy, and wait impatiently to purchase the newest iPhone which includes the newest, most overrated feature to date. Even the toys we manufacture perpetuate this endless cycle of unnecessary wants and desires. According to that archaic proverb, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It s ironic how we hear and repeat this phrase all the time yet we don t practice what we preach. A good example of this can be found with the popularity of the Barbie fashion doll. Something as simple as a piece of plastic with fake hair, exaggerated body features, and miniature outfits can instill in young girls across the world the standard of beauty . With this fragile, impressionable persona that we have engrained in women over time, it seems as if we are driving them to their own demise. To what extent are legal positivists and natural law theorists accurate in terms of the idea that an unjust law cannot be a valid law ? In this essay i will attempt to define the concept of the validity of law in relation to both natural law theorists and positivist theorists. For the purpose of this essay I will define validity of a law as Having legal force; effective or binding (The Free Dictionary). The main reason for the continual debate between both theories is that they are both very similar although they may appear to be at contrary ends of each spectrum. Natural law theorists believe that in order for a law to be valid it must have some moral principle therefore if laws which are enacted in statues have no authority, they are not moral. Whereas positivists support and emphasise the importance of a division between morality and law. I will begin by outlining both theories. I will then move onto asses the accuracy of the following statement, An unjust law cannot be a valid law this includes establishing the similarities and differences of both theories; in order to do this effectively it is essential that a thorough understanding of both theories has been developed. Finally I will summarise my findings, An unjust law cannot be a valid law true or false? The first question we need to address in order to be able to assess this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A number of research have proven that people commonly assumed that intergroup relationships are more competitive than of interindividual ones, and they also experience competitive intergroup contacts more often in their daily lives. Kosuke Takemura and Masaki Yuki of Hokkaido University in Sapporo, Japan conducted an experimental research to test the theory of the discontinuity effect existing in East Asia as it does in the United States, wherein the participants played a 10 trial prisoner s dilemma game repeatedly. They initially believed that if East Asians are collectivists, then a group of East Asians should be more competitive than East Asians individually, and that the discontinuity effect should be stronger than what was perceived in the United States. This study was an attempt to imitate Insko et al. s experiment (1990) but using a Japanese sample. The purpose of this was revealed to be to observe the cross cultural difference, or lack thereof, in the magnitude of the discontinuity effect between Japan and the United States. In the experiment, one hundred and sixty (134 male, 26 female) Japanese students from Hokkaido University participated, which they were randomly drawn from a pool of roughly 1500 students who volunteered. The U.S. government used many known approaches in order to gain control over other countries. Some foreign policies that were enacted was the two Open Door Policies, Roosevelts Corollary, and the Dollar Diplomacy. The first Open Door policy guaranteed that all nations had the rights to trade with China on an equal basis. • 41. Auschwitz s Angel Of Death Auschwitz s Angel of Death I. Introduction My generation is one of the first to not be directly affected by the Holocaust. I think in this way it s easier for us to research and discuss. For us, the Holocaust is jut another terrible time in our world s history. It s another chapter in our history books that we learn about in school. It s fascinating to research because of all the terrible and unbelievable things that occurred during this time. The topic I decided to choose is the experimentation done on prisoners in Auschwitz. I chose this topic because I have always been very interested in the medical field. I started by looking up the health conditions of the prisoners. I wanted to see if the prisoners were ever treated for any ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... III. Results During the Holocaust, doctors had free reign to do whatever they wanted to any prisoner at any of the concentration camps. The majority of the prisoners were to be sent to the gas chambers and killed, so the doctors justified their torturous experiments by saying the patients were fated to die anyways. Thus, instead of doing their job, instead of bringing assistance and comfort to the sick people who needed them most, instead of helping the mutilated and the handicapped to live, eat, and hope one more day, one more hour, doctors became their executioners (Spitz 191). When men and women become doctors they take a vow. In this vow they state to keep the sick from harm and injustice and to never give any patient a deadly drug. The doctors of the Holocaust simply must have come to the conclusion that this vow, that they were required to make, no longer applied to them and the prisoners they were treating . As I conducted my own research on these doctors, I found that there was one doctor in particular who stood out among the others. A doctor much crueler than the rest, Josef Mengele. He was known as Auschwitz s own Angel of death . Wherever he sprang up, Death spread its shadow (Spitz 215). Auschwitz sole purpose was mass extermination, and Mengele quickly took advantage of this. He did not gradually become unethical; his disturbing actions and decisions began the moment he arrived at Auschwitz. Within ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Literature Review On Teachers Using Inquiry-Based... There have not been many significant literature reviews about teachers using inquiry based instructional strategies to teach science and to plan units and meet curriculum demands. However, most literature that was found suggests that teachers that use instructional strategies in their unit plans and lessons give teachers an opportunity to meet curriculum demands. Doing unit plans and lessons with an inquiry based approach works very well because of limited time elementary teachers have. A lot of times teacher can create integrated or cross curricular unit plans, which helps meet the demands of the curriculum. Developed in the 1960 s, many teachers see inquiry based learning as a new pedagogy (Guido, 2017). However, Minner, Levy Century (2009) suggest that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 43. Local Religious Freedom Restoration Act Local Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA) are controversial in nature, because while they pretend to use the excuse to protect the free exercise of religion, intrinsically it is an avenue to attack same sex marriages which have been ruled constitutional by most circuit appellate courts in the United States. Currently the Supreme Court is hearing the cases that might ultimately decide the faith of marriage equality. United States v. Windsor opened the door for most federal appellate jurisdictions and some states to rule that prohibiting same sex marriage was constitutional, on the basis of the 14th Amendment equal protection clause. Despite this decision, the right to marriage is not an explicit protection addressed by the Constitution, and is often seen as a right delegated to the States under the 10th Amendment. On the other hand the free exercise clause is part of the First Amendment, and protects people from doing things that violate their religious principle, for example a Christian doctor from performing an abortion. The article from New York Times in which Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal is an attempt to legitimize that RFRA plays an important place in protecting the free exercise of religion of people and the power to authorize or prohibit same sex marriage rest on the states police powers under the 10th Amendment. While a majority of Americans nowadays sympathize with gay people and equality marriage it is a more difficult questions to address in the context ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analog and Digital Signal ANALOG AND DIGITAL SIGNAL 1.1 Analog signal An analog or analogue signal is any continuous signal for which the time varying feature (variable) of the signal is a representation of some other time varying quantity, i.e., analog to another time varying signal. For example, in an analog audio signal, the instantaneous voltage of the signal varies continuously with the pressure of the sound waves. It differs from a digital signal, in which a continuous quantity is represented by a discrete function which can only take on one of a finite number of values. The term analog signal usually refers to electrical signals; however, mechanical, hydraulic, and other systems may also convey analog signals. An analog signal uses ... • 45. Recommendations For Prevention And Mitigation Recommendations for Prevention/Mitigation Many ports do not have cyber response plans contained within broader risk plans (Kramek). All of the ports studied by Kramek had a dedicated security officer and a dedicated IT staff, but the security officers focus usually remained on traditional physical security threats, and IT was a separate and distinct department from security (Kramek). Kramek states, cyber security threats were not part of the security officer s response portfolio . Most security officers thought that their IT staff would notify them in some form or fashion if a cyber incident threatened port operations (Kramek). However, when during the response this notification to the security officers would be made is unclear given the lack of written response plans (Kramek). Ports need their IT department to be continually communicating with their security department. This would keep all the staff in the loop on current difficulties and security impairments and allow staff to find a cyber incident before it becomes too bad. Ports need to make sure that they have thorough written response plans in the case of a cyber security incident and that all IT and security staff that will be involved are ready to execute the plan if needed. These plans need to take into account that many industrial control systems are dependent, like many systems at ports and marine terminals, and run off computer networks (Sain). However, one of the problems radical feminists had was the funding of their autonomous institutions. While liberal feminists wanted to reform existing political institutions, radical feminists were in favor of organizing alternative autonomous institutions. • 49. Is Shakespeare s Monologues And Soliloquie In Romeo And... Shakespeare is renowned for his powerful monologues and soliloquies; from Romeo and Juliet s lamenting beginning, as well as Hamlet s dreary end. Richard III is no different, the opening speech in the beginning tells the audience Richard s immediate intentions; an action deliberately made by Shakespeare. By introducing the play this way it gives the reader a sneak inside the man s wicked soul, giving no doubt to the evil that is about to happen. Much like in Romeo and Juliet, the plot or plan, rather is explained and then the tale begins. By putting the action at the beginning, Shakespeare ensures that he has captured the audience s immediate interest by showcasing a corrupted man s inner thoughts. Richard is deeply infatuated with power, and he craves war and death alike. That is what the speech tells the audience, and when reading the speech aloud, it is very easily noted the amount of rage and jealousy that is laced through every word. Though Richard says that they are in a current time of peace, he feels none. He wants no part in the tranquility that has been brought to the land since the end of the War. What the man wants is conflict instead going as far as insulting death and war itself. Richard personifies war, saying that it has gone and joined in the festivities of the day and has found love. In that instant, Richard is jealous of it, for he says that love will not find him because he is deformed. For this reason, Richard is plagued with the very ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 50. Siella Kingdom 1. I believe one of the most important factor that contributed to Silla s unification of the Three Kingdom is their strength and their allies. Even though the title is Three Kingdoms, there were several smaller states which included the Kaya and Puyo. According to page 30 of A History of Korea , the Kaya states were quite wealthy as they took an active role in commerce and iron production. However, they failed to become a larger kingdom which made it easier for the Silla to take over. As for Puyo, they disappeared even earlier. The main three kingdoms were Silla, Koguryo, and Paekche. According to page 39, they relied on their social and political systems. Their systems includes bone rank system, the Hwabaek, and hwarang. They were also other factors that contributed to the unification of the Three Kingdoms by Silla. On page 55, Seth states that the political and military structure provided a stable and effective government, which carried the country s expansion. They also had long prosperity, strong economic base, and ways to support their huge military. The geography also played an important part. Koguryo was dealing with wars on the northwestern and southern boundaries while Paekche s weak spot to Koguryo was the north. It was also weak against Silla in the south and China from the sea. Silla was in the southeast corner and had easier boundaries to defeat. It was also out of reach from direct assault from China (page ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. Definition Of Poverty There are a number of definitions of poverty. It is a multifaceted notion which includes social, economic, and political components. How we define poverty is critical to politics, policy and academic debates about the concept. It is bound up with explanations and has implications for solutions. (Lister, 2004 as cited in Class notes, 2017). The United Nations, first established in 1945 shortly after the second world war, was created to promote international co operation and maintain international order (UN, 2017). The global term for poverty is defined by using the Gross National Product (GNP) and Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Both defined by the World Bank, GNP uses market valuations to measure national income: GNP per capita (each person) gives an indication of the typical material living standards of a nation, whereas, GDP is a measure of the total market value of goods and services output and their economic activity. The United Nations set the bar at the minimum daily income of $1.25 (93 pence) per day (Class notes, 2017). If you are living on less than this you are classed as living in absolute poverty. How poverty is measured is a contested concept and has had researchers long trying to establish a fixed method of determining. The four main concepts are absolute poverty, relative poverty and deprivation, consensual poverty, and social exclusion (Class notes, 2017). The concept of absolute poverty was developed in the 19th century by Joseph Rowntree and was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
