The extensive use of fossil fuel is destroying the balance of nature that could lead to many problems in the forthcoming era. Renewable energy resources are a ray of hope to avoid possible destruction. Smart grid and distributed power generation systems are now mainly built with the help of renewable energy resources. The integration of renewable energy production system with the smart grid and distributed power generation is facing many challenges that include addressing the issue of isolation and power quality. This paper presents a new approach to address the aforementioned issues by proposing a hybrid bypass technique concept to improve the overall performance of the grid-tied inverter in solar power generation. The topology with the proposed technique is presented using traditional H5, oH5 and H6 inverter. Comparison of topologies with literature is carried out to check the feasibility of the method proposed. It is found that the leakage current of all the proposed inverters is 9 mA and total harmonic distortion is almost about 2%. The proposed topology has good efficiency, common mode and differential mode characteristics.

Optimizing of the installed capacity of hybrid renewable energy with a modifi...IJECEIAES
The lack of wind speed capacity and the emission of photons from sunlight are the problem in a hybrid system of photovoltaic (PV) panels and wind turbines. To overcome this shortcoming, the incremental conductance (IC) algorithm is applied that could control the converter work cycle and the switching of the buck boost therefore maximum efficiency of maximum power point tracking (MPPT) is reached. The operation of the PV-wind hybrid system, consisting of a 100 W PV array device and a 400 W wind subsystem, 12 V/100 Ah battery energy storage and LED, the PV-wind system requires a hybrid controller for battery charging and usage and load lamp and it’s conducted in experimental setup. The experimental has shown that an average increase in power generated was 38.8% compared to a single system of PV panels or a single wind turbine sub-system. Therefore, the potential opportunities for increasing power production in the tropics wheather could be carried out and applied with this model.
Modified T-type topology of three-phase multi-level inverter for photovoltaic...IJECEIAES
In this article, a three-phase multilevel neutral-point-clamped inverter with a modified t-type structure of switches is proposed. A pulse width modulation (PWM) scheme of the proposed inverter is also developed. The proposed topology of the multilevel inverter has the advantage of being simple, on the one hand since it does contain only semiconductors in reduced number (corresponding to the number of required voltage levels), and no other components such as switching or flying capacitors, and on the other hand, the control scheme is much simpler and more suitable for variable frequency and voltage control. The performances of this inverter are analyzed through simulations carried out in the MATLAB/Simulink environment on a threephase inverter with 9 levels. In all simulations, the proposed topology is connected with R-load or RL-load without any output filter.
Parametric estimation in photovoltaic modules using the crow search algorithmIJECEIAES
The problem of parametric estimation in photovoltaic (PV) modules considering man- ufacturer information is addressed in this research from the perspective of combinatorial optimization. With the data sheet provided by the PV manufacturer, a non-linear non-convex optimization problem is formulated that contains information regarding maximum power, open-circuit, and short-circuit points. To estimate the three parameters of the PV model (i.e., the ideality diode factor (a) and the parallel and series resistances (R p and R )), the crow search algorithm (CSA) is employed, which is a metaheuristic optimization technique inspired by the behavior of the crows searching food deposits. The CSA allows the exploration and exploitation of the solution space through a simple evolution rule derived from the classical PSO method. Numerical simulations reveal the effectiveness and robustness of the CSA to estimate these parameters with objective function values lower than 1 10 s 28 and processing times less than 2 s. All the numerical simulations were developed in MATLAB 2020a and compared with the sine-cosine and vortex search algorithms recently reported in the literature.
A hybrid algorithm for voltage stability enhancement of distribution systems IJECEIAES
This paper presents a hybrid algorithm by applying a hybrid firefly and particle swarm optimization algorithm (HFPSO) to determine the optimal sizing of distributed generation (DG) and distribution static compensator (D-STATCOM) device. A multi-objective function is employed to enhance the voltage stability, voltage profile, and minimize the total power loss of the radial distribution system (RDS). Firstly, the voltage stability index (VSI) is applied to locate the optimal location of DG and D-STATCOM respectively. Secondly, to overcome the sup-optimal operation of existing algorithms, the HFPSO algorithm is utilized to determine the optimal size of both DG and D-STATCOM. Verification of the proposed algorithm has achieved on the standard IEEE 33-bus and Iraqi 65-bus radial distribution systems through simulation using MATLAB. Comprehensive simulation results of four different cases show that the proposed HFPSO demonstrates significant improvements over other existing algorithms in supporting voltage stability and loss reduction in distribution networks. Furthermore, comparisons have achieved to demonstrate the superiority of HFPSO algorithms over other techniques due to its ability to determine the global optimum solution by easy way and speed converge feature.

The aim of this work is to solve the unit commitment (UC) problem in power systems by calculating minimum production cost for the power generation and finding the best distribution of the generation among the units (units scheduling) using binary grey wolf optimizer based on particle swarm optimization (BGWOPSO) algorithm. The minimum production cost calculating is based on using the quadratic programming method and represents the global solution that must be arriving by the BGWOPSO algorithm then appearing units status (on or off). The suggested method was applied on “39 bus IEEE test systems”, the simulation results show the effectiveness of the suggested method over other algorithms in terms of minimizing of production cost and suggesting excellent scheduling of units.
An optimum location of on-grid bifacial based photovoltaic system in Iraq IJECEIAES
Bifacial photovoltaic (PV) module can gain 30% more energy compared to monofacial if a suitable location were chosen. Iraq (a Middle East country) has a variable irradiation level according to its geographic coordinates, thus, the performance of PV systems differs. This paper an array (17 series, 13 parallel) was chosen to produce 100 kWp for an on-grid PV system. It investigates the PV system in three cities in Iraq (Mosul, Baghdad, and Basrah). Effect of albedo factor, high and pitch of the bifacial module on energy yield have been studied using PVsyst (software). It has been found that the effect is less for a pitch greater than 6 m. The energy gained from bifacial and monofacial PV system module in these cities shows that Mosul is the most suitable for installing both PV systems followed by Baghdad and lastly Basrah. However, in Basrah, the bifacial gain is 12% higher in the energy than monofacial as irradiation there is higher than the other locations, especially for elevation above 1.5 m. Moreover, the cost of bifacial array is 7.23% higher than monofacial, but this additional cost is acceptable since the bifacial gain is about 11.3% higher energy compared to the monofacial.

Convergence analysis of the triangular-based power flow method for AC distribu...IJECEIAES
This paper addresses the convergence analysis of the triangular-based power flow (PF) method in alternating current radial distribution networks. The PF formulation is made via upper-triangular matrices, which enables finding a general iterative PF formula that does not require admittance matrix calculations. The convergence analysis of this iterative formula is carried out by applying the Banach fixed-point theorem (BFPT), which allows demonstrating that under an adequate voltage profile the triangular-based PF always converges. Numerical validations are made, on the well-known 33 and 69 distribution networks test systems. Gauss-seidel, newton-raphson, and backward/forward PF methods are considered for the sake of comparison. All the simulations are carried out in MATLAB software.

The solar system is designed with main parts: photovoltaic (PV) panel, direct current/direct current (DC/DC) converter, inverter, filter, and in addition, the battery is used to save energy in the event that there is an increased demand for energy and not to provide solar radiation, as well as saving energy in the case of generation more than demand. This work was done using the matrix laboratory (MATLAB) simulink program.
Benchmarking study between capacitive and electronic load technic to track I-...IJECEIAES
To detect defects of solar panel and understand the effect of external parameters such as fluctuations in illumination, temperature, and the effect of a type of dust on a photovoltaic (PV) panel, it is essential to plot the Ipv=f(Vpv) characteristic of the PV panel, and the simplest way to plot this I-V characteristic is to use a variable resistor. This paper presents a study of comparison and combination between two methods: capacitive and electronic loading to track I-V characteristic. The comparison was performed in terms of accuracy, response time and instrumentation cost used in each circuit, under standard temperature and illumination conditions by using polycrystalline solar panel type SX330J and monocrystalline solar panels type ET-M53630. The whole system is based on simple components, less expensive and especially widely used in laboratories. The results will be between the datasheet of the manufacturer with the experimental data, refinements and improvements concerning the number of points and the trace time have been made by combining these two methods.
Impact of hybrid FACTS devices on the stability of the Kenyan power system IJECEIAES
Flexible alternating current transmission system (FACTS) devices are deployed for improving power system’s stability either singly or as a combination. This research investigates hybrid FACTS devices and studies their impact on voltage, small-signal and transient stability simultaneously under various system disturbances. The simulations were done using five FACTS devices-static var compensator (SVC), static synchronous compensator (STATCOM), static synchronous series compensators (SSSC), thyristor controlled series compensator (TCSC) and unified power flow controller (UPFC) in MATLAB’s power system analysis toolbox (PSAT). These five devices were grouped into ten pairs and tested on Kenya’s transmission network under specific contingencies: the loss of a major generating machine and/or transmission line. The UPFC-STATCOM pair performed the best in all the three aspects under study. The settling times were 3 seconds and 3.05 seconds respectively for voltage and rotor angle improvement on the loss of a major generator at normal operation. The same pair gave settling times of 2.11 seconds and 3.12 seconds for voltage and rotor angle stability improvement respectively on the loss of a major transmission line at 140% system loading. From the study, two novel techniques were developed: A performance-based ranking system and classification for FACTS devices.
With the dominating utility of the internet, it becomes critical to manage the efficiency and reliability of telecom and datacenter, as the power consumption of the involved equipment also increases. Much power being wasted through the power conversion stages by converting AC voltage to DC voltage and then stepping down to lower voltages to connect to information and communication technology (ICT) equipment. 48/12 VDC is the standard DC bus architecture to serve the end utility equipment. This voltage level is further processed to multiple lower voltages to power up the internal auxiliary circuits. Power losses are involved when it is converted from higher voltage to lower voltages. Therefore, the efficiency of power conversion is lower. There is a need to increase the efficiency by minimizing the power losses which occur due to the conversion stages. Different methods are available to increase the efficiency of a system by optimizing the converter topologies, semiconductor materials and control methods. There is another possibility of increasing the efficiency by changing the architecture of a system by increasing the DC bus voltage to higher voltages to optimize the losses. This paper presents a review of available high voltage options for telecom power distribution and developments, implementations and challenges across the world.

The document provides background on various control methods used in microgrids and describes the modeling and simulation of the key components in the proposed standalone DC microgrid system.
Resource aware wind farm and D-STATCOM optimal sizing and placement in a dist...IJECEIAES
Doubly fed induction generators (DFIG) based wind farms are capable of providing reactive power compensation. Compensation capability enhancement using reactors such as distributed static synchronous compensator (D-STATCOM) while connecting distribution generation (DG) systems to grid is imperative. This paper presents an optimal placement and sizing of offshore wind farms in a coastal distribution system that is emulated on an IEEE 33 bus system. A multi-objective formulation for optimal placement and sizing of the offshore wind farms with both the location and size constraints is developed. Teaching learning algorithm is used to optimize the multi-objective function constraining on the capacity and location of the offshore wind farms. The proposed formulation is a multi-objective problem for placement of the wind generator in the power system with dynamic wind supply to the power system. The random wind speed is generated as the input and the wind farm output generated to perform the optimal sizing and placement in the distributed system. MATLAB based simulation developed is found to be efficient and robust.
Single core configurations of saturated core fault current limiter performanc...IJECEIAES
Economic growth with industrialization and urbanization lead to an extensive increase in power demand. It forced the utilities to add power generating facilities to cause the necessary demand-generation balance. The bulk power generating stations, mostly interconnected, with the penetration of distributed generation result in an enormous rise in the fault level of power networks. It necessitates for electrical utilities to control the fault current so that the existing switchgear can continue its services without upgradation or replacement for reliable supply. The deployment of fault current limiter (FCL) at the distribution and transmission networks has been under investigation as a potential solution to the problem. A saturated core fault current limiter (SCFCL) technology is a smart, scalable, efficient, reliable, and commercially viable option to manage fault levels in existing and future MV/HV supply systems. This paper presents the comparative performance analysis of two single-core SCFCL topologies impressed with different core saturations. It has demonstrated that the single AC winding configuration needs more bias power for affecting the same current limiting performance with an acceptable steady-state voltage drop contribution. The fault state impedance has a transient nature, and the optimum bias selection is a critical design parameter in realizing the SCFCL applications.
Design methodology of smart photovoltaic plant IJECEIAES
In this article, we present a new methodology to design an intelligent photovoltaic power plant connected to an electrical grid with storage to supply the laying hen rearing centers. This study requires a very competent design methodology in order to optimize the production and consumption of electrical energy. Our contribution consists in proposing a robust dimensioning synthesis elaborated according to a data flow chart. To achieve this objective, the photovoltaic system was first designed using a deterministic method, then the software "Homer" was used to check the feasibility of the design. Then, controllers (fuzzy logic) were used to optimize the energy produced and consumed. The power produced by the photovoltaic generator (GPV) is optimized by two fuzzy controllers: one to extract the maximum energy and another to control the batteries. The energy consumed by the load is optimized by a fuzzy controller that regulates the internal climate of the livestock buildings. The proposed control strategies are developed and implemented using MATLAB/Simulink.
Frequency regulation service of multiple-areas vehicle to grid application in...IJECEIAES
Regarding a potential of electric vehicles, it has been widely discussed that the electric vehicle can be participated in electricity ancillary services. Among the ancillary service products, the system frequency regulation is often considered. However, the participation in this service has to be conformed to the hierarchical frequency control architecture. Therefore, the vehicle to grid (V2G) application in this article is proposed in the term of multiple-areas of operation. The multiple-areas in this article are concerned as parking areas, which the parking areas can be implied as a V2G operator. From that, V2G operator can obtain the control signal from hierarchical control architecture for power sharing purpose. A power sharing concept between areas is fulfilled by a proposed adaptive droop factor based on battery state of charge and available capacity of parking area. A nonlinear multiplier factor is used for the droop adaptation. An available capacity is also applied as a limitation for the V2G operation. The available capacity is analyzed through a stochastic character. As the V2G application has to be cooperated with the hierarchical control functions, i.e. primary control and secondary control, then the effect of V2G on hierarchical control functions is investigated and discussed.

The system aims to improve solar panel efficiency by maintaining optimal operating temperature through active cooling. It consists of sensors to measure temperature, light intensity and energy output, a microcontroller to control the cooling system, and an IoT interface to monitor the system remotely. Experimental results show that active cooling increases the solar panel's average output voltage, current and power by lowering its surface temperature compared to passive cooling.
Power system operation considering detailed modelling of the natural gas supp...IJECEIAES
The energy transition from fossil-fuel generators to renewable energies represents a paramount challenge. This is mainly due to the uncertainty and unpredictability associated with renewable resources. A greater flexibility is requested for power system operation to fulfill demand requirements considering security and economic restrictions. In particular, the use of gas-fired generators has increased to enhance system flexibility in response to the integration of renewable energy sources. This paper provides a comprehensive formulation for modeling a natural gas supply network to provide gas for thermal generators, considering the use of wind power sources for the operation of the electrical system over a 24-hour period. The results indicate the requirements of gas with different wind power level of integration. The model is evaluated on a network of 20 NG nodes and on a 24-bus IEEE RTS system with various operative settings during a 24-hour period.
When the irradiance distribution over the photovoltaic panels is uniform, the pursuit of the maximum power point is not reached, which has allowed several researchers to use traditional MPPT techniques to solve this problem Among these techniques a PSO algorithm is used to have the maximum global power point (GMPPT) under partial shading. On the other hand, this one is not reliable vis-à-vis the pursuit of the MPPT. Therefore, in this paper we have treated another technique based on a new modified PSO algorithm so that the power can reach its maximum point. The PSO algorithm is based on the heuristic method which guarantees not only the obtaining of MPPT but also the simplicity of control and less expensive of the system. The results are obtained using MATLAB show that the proposed modified PSO algorithm performs better than conventional PSO and is robust to different partial shading models.
The impact of channel fin width on electrical characteristics of Si-FinFET IJECEIAES
This paper studies the impact of fin width of channel on temperature and electrical characteristics of fin field-effect transistor (FinFET). The simulation tool multi-gate field effect transistor (MuGFET) has been used to examine the FinFET characteristics. Transfer characteristics with various temperatures and channel fin width (W F =5, 10, 20, 40, and 80 nm) are at first simulated in this study. The results show that the increasing of environmental temperature tends to increase threshold voltage, while the subthreshold swing (SS) and drain-induced barrier lowering (DIBL) rise with rising working temperature. Also, the threshold voltage decreases with increasing channel fin width of transistor, while the SS and DIBL increase with increasing channel fin width of transistor, at minimum channel fin width, the SS is very near to the best and ideal then its value grows and going far from the ideal value with increasing channel fin width. So, according to these conditions, the minimum value as possible of fin width is the preferable one for FinFET with better electrical characteristics.
The electrical and environmental parameters of polymer solar cells (PSC) provide important information on their performance. In the present article we study the influence of temperature on the voltage-current (I-V) characteristic at different temperatures from 10 °C to 90 °C, and important parameters like bandgap energy Eg, and the energy conversion efficiency η. The one-diode electrical model, normally used for semiconductor cells, has been tested and validated for the polemeral junction. The PSC used in our study are formed by the poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) and [6,6]-phenyl C61-butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM). Our technique is based on the combination of two steps; the first use the Least Mean Squares (LMS) method while the second use the Newton-Raphson algorithm. The found results are compared to other recently published works, they show that the developed approach is very accurate. This precision is proved by the minimal values of statistical errors (RMSE) and the good agreement between both the experimental data and the I-V simulated curves. The obtained results show a clear and a monotonic dependence of the cell efficiency on the studied parameters.
This document summarizes a research paper that proposes a vision-based solar tracking system using both light dependent resistor (LDR) sensors and image processing to more efficiently track the sun and maximize solar panel output. The system uses 4 LDR sensors initially to track sunlight intensity changes and orient the solar panel. It then uses a camera and image processing algorithms to identify the sun's position in an image, calculate its centroid coordinates, and provide a corrected tracking measurement to better align the panel with the sun's direct rays. Experimental results show the combined LDR and image processing approach generates more power than a fixed panel or LDR-only tracking system over a 17 hour period.
This paper focuses on the artificial bee colony (ABC) algorithm, which is a nonlinear optimization problem. is proposed to find the optimal power flow (OPF). To solve this problem, we will apply the ABC algorithm to a power system incorporating wind power. The proposed approach is applied on a standard IEEE-30 system with wind farms located on different buses and with different penetration levels to show the impact of wind farms on the system in order to obtain the optimal settings of control variables of the OPF problem. Based on technical results obtained, the ABC algorithm is shown to achieve a lower cost and losses than the other methods applied, while incorporating wind power into the system, high performance would be gained.
The document describes a proposed modified bridge-type nonsuperconducting fault current limiter (NSFCL) for distribution networks. The NSFCL consists of a bridge rectifier, two DC reactors (one small in series and one large in parallel), and an IGBT semiconductor switch controlled by a command circuit. During normal operation, the IGBT is on and the parallel reactor is bypassed, making the NSFCL invisible. During a fault, the IGBT turns off, inserting the parallel reactor to limit fault current. Simulation results showed the design effectively limits fault current while minimally affecting normal operation.

A non-isolated tri-port converter is a fully compact and functional system by the integration of basic converters. This can be used for renewable energy applications. This converter is capable of achieving different switching patterns of power flow between the source and load, interfaced sources of various voltage and current levels with the dc grid. This tri-port converter has to be used for continuous power distribution of rechargeable battery, photovoltaic panels and load. Due to the implementation of this dc-dc converter some operations like buck, boost and buck-boost operations became easy. Use of this converter helps in easy implementation of the system. The solar PV panel implementation boosts the system to a high level and bidirectional flow became easy from source to load and vice versa.

For comparative study, this paper discusses two damping configurations, namely series and parallel damping, as well as the LCL filter without damping element. Four criteria are used to explore the impacts of the damper circuits, i.e. their total harmonic distortions (THDs), the output voltage amplitude, the output power and the power efficiency. Theoretically and emphirically shown by previous studies, the damper can indeed reduce the peak resonance frequency of the filter in its frequency response curve. However, in any circumstance, it can potentially reduce the inverters power and efficiency, voltage output amplitude, and cannot improve its THD reduction. The analysis results have shown that the side effects depends also on the load conditions, which are different for each damping circuit configuration.

Fuzzy logic control of hybrid systems including renewable energy in microgrids IJECEIAES
With a growing demand for more energy from subscribers, a traditional electric grid is unable to meet new challenges, in the remote areas remains the extension of the conventional electric network very hard to do make prohibitively expensive. Therefore, a new advanced generation of traditional electrical is inevitable and indispensable to move toward an effective, economical, green, clean and self-correcting power system. The most well-known term used to define this next generation power system is micro grid (MG) based on renewable energy sources (RES). Since, the energy produced by RES are not constant at all times, a wide range of energy control techniques must be involved to provide a reliable power to consumers. To solve this problem in this paper we present a fuzzy logic control of isolated hybrid systems (HRES) including renewable energy in micro-grids to maintain a stability in voltage and frequency output especially in the standalone application. A Three Phase Multi Level Converter for grid Connected PV SystemIAES-IJPEDS
Photovoltaic energy is a wide kind of green energy. A high performance on these systems is needed to make the most of energy produced by solar cells. Also, there must be a constant adaptation due to the continuous variation of power production. Control techniques for Power Converters like the MPPT algorithm (Maximum Power Point Tracking) present very good results on photovoltaic chains. Nevertheless, losses on power elements reduce global performance and the voltage/current adaptation is not always possible. This paper presents a single-phase 11-level (5 H-bridges) cascade multilevel DC- AC grid-tied inverter. Each inverter bridge is connected to a 200 W solar panel. OPAL-RT lab was used as the hardware in the loop (HIL) real-time control system platform where a Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) algorithm was implemented based on the inverter output power to assure optimal operation of the inverter when connected to the power grid as well as a Phase Locked Loop (PLL) for phase and frequency match. A novel SPWM scheme is proposed in this paper to be used with the solar panels that can account for voltage profile fluctuations among the panels during the day. Simulation and experimental results are shown for voltage and current during synchronization mode and power transferring mode to validate the methodology for grid connection of renewable resources.

Grid Connected PV System with Power Quality Improvement Using Intelligent Con...IJMTST Journal
The depletion of the fossil fuel resources and the global warming effects has led the world to think
seriously of other alternative sources of energy. So renewable energy resources (RES) are being connected to
the distribution systems, mostly done by using power electronic converters. But use of power electronic
converters and non-linear loads like at distribution level injects harmonics, which intern cause power quality
problems. Distribution static compensator (DSTATCOM) is very popular in compensating power problems for
nonlinear and unbalanced loads. Any change in the load affects the DC-link voltage (DCLV) directly.
Conventionally, a PI controller is used to maintain the DCLV to the reference value, but its transient response
is poor. So, fuzzy logic controller is proposed which shows better dynamic response. To trigger inverter HCC
is used. The proposed inverter with the control when connected to wind energy, helps the 3-phase 4-wire
linear/non-linear unbalanced load at point of common coupling appear as balanced linear load to the grid.
With MATLAB/Simulink simulation studies, the proposed control technique is demonstrated and evaluated

Advanced control scheme of doubly fed induction generator for wind turbine us...IJECEIAES
This paper describes a speed control device for generating electrical energy on an electricity network based on the doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) used for wind power conversion systems. At first, a double-fed induction generator model was constructed. A control law is formulated to govern the flow of energy between the stator of a DFIG and the energy network using three types of controllers: proportional integral (PI), sliding mode controller (SMC) and second order sliding mode controller (SOSMC). Their different results in terms of power reference tracking, reaction to unexpected speed fluctuations, sensitivity to perturbations, and resilience against machine parameter alterations are compared. MATLAB/Simulink was used to conduct the simulations for the preceding study. Multiple simulations have shown very satisfying results, and the investigations demonstrate the efficacy and power-enhancing capabilities of the suggested control system.
Neural network optimizer of proportional-integral-differential controller par...IJECEIAES
Wide application of proportional-integral-differential (PID)-regulator in industry requires constant improvement of methods of its parameters adjustment. The paper deals with the issues of optimization of PID-regulator parameters with the use of neural network technology methods. A methodology for choosing the architecture (structure) of neural network optimizer is proposed, which consists in determining the number of layers, the number of neurons in each layer, as well as the form and type of activation function. Algorithms of neural network training based on the application of the method of minimizing the mismatch between the regulated value and the target value are developed. The method of back propagation of gradients is proposed to select the optimal training rate of neurons of the neural network. The neural network optimizer, which is a superstructure of the linear PID controller, allows increasing the regulation accuracy from 0.23 to 0.09, thus reducing the power consumption from 65% to 53%. The results of the conducted experiments allow us to conclude that the created neural superstructure may well become a prototype of an automatic voltage regulator (AVR)-type industrial controller for tuning the parameters of the PID controller.
An improved modulation technique suitable for a three level flying capacitor ...IJECEIAES
This research paper introduces an innovative modulation technique for controlling a 3-level flying capacitor multilevel inverter (FCMLI), aiming to streamline the modulation process in contrast to conventional methods. The proposed
simplified modulation technique paves the way for more straightforward and
efficient control of multilevel inverters, enabling their widespread adoption and
integration into modern power electronic systems. Through the amalgamation of
sinusoidal pulse width modulation (SPWM) with a high-frequency square wave
pulse, this controlling technique attains energy equilibrium across the coupling
capacitor. The modulation scheme incorporates a simplified switching pattern
and a decreased count of voltage references, thereby simplifying the control
algorithm.

This review focuses on the importance of identifying potential fishing zones in seawater for sustainable fishing practices. It explores features like sea surface temperature (SST) and sea surface height (SSH), along with classification methods such as classifiers. The features like SST, SSH, and different classifiers used to classify the data, have been figured out in this review study. This study underscores the importance of examining potential fishing zones using advanced analytical techniques. It thoroughly explores the methodologies employed by researchers, covering both past and current approaches. The examination centers on data characteristics and the application of classification algorithms for classification of potential fishing zones. Furthermore, the prediction of potential fishing zones relies significantly on the effectiveness of classification algorithms. Previous research has assessed the performance of models like support vector machines, naïve Bayes, and artificial neural networks (ANN). In the previous result, the results of support vector machine (SVM) were 97.6% more accurate than naive Bayes's 94.2% to classify test data for fisheries classification. By considering the recent works in this area, several recommendations for future works are presented to further improve the performance of the potential fishing zone models, which is important to the fisheries community.
Electrical signal interference minimization using appropriate core material f...IJECEIAES
As demand for smaller, quicker, and more powerful devices rises, Moore's law is strictly followed. The industry has worked hard to make little devices that boost productivity. The goal is to optimize device density. Scientists are reducing connection delays to improve circuit performance. This helped them understand three-dimensional integrated circuit (3D IC) concepts, which stack active devices and create vertical connections to diminish latency and lower interconnects. Electrical involvement is a big worry with 3D integrates circuits. Researchers have developed and tested through silicon via (TSV) and substrates to decrease electrical wave involvement. This study illustrates a novel noise coupling reduction method using several electrical involvement models. A 22% drop in electrical involvement from wave-carrying to victim TSVs introduces this new paradigm and improves system performance even at higher THz frequencies.

Voltage and frequency control of microgrid in presence of micro-turbine inter...IJECEIAES
The active and reactive load changes have a significant impact on voltage
and frequency. In this paper, in order to stabilize the microgrid (MG) against
load variations in islanding mode, the active and reactive power of all
distributed generators (DGs), including energy storage (battery), diesel
generator, and micro-turbine, are controlled. The micro-turbine generator is
connected to MG through a three-phase to three-phase matrix converter, and
the droop control method is applied for controlling the voltage and
frequency of MG. In addition, a method is introduced for voltage and
frequency control of micro-turbines in the transition state from gridconnected mode to islanding mode. A novel switching strategy of the matrix
converter is used for converting the high-frequency output voltage of the
micro-turbine to the grid-side frequency of the utility system. Moreover,
using the switching strategy, the low-order harmonics in the output current
and voltage are not produced, and consequently, the size of the output filter
would be reduced. In fact, the suggested control strategy is load-independent
and has no frequency conversion restrictions. The proposed approach for
voltage and frequency regulation demonstrates exceptional performance and
favorable response across various load alteration scenarios. The suggested
strategy is examined in several scenarios in the MG test systems, and the
simulation results are addressed.

Precisely characterizing Li-ion batteries is essential for optimizing their
performance, enhancing safety, and prolonging their lifespan across various
applications, such as electric vehicles and renewable energy systems. This
article introduces an innovative nonlinear methodology for system
identification of a Li-ion battery, employing a nonlinear autoregressive with
exogenous inputs (NARX) model. The proposed approach integrates the
benefits of nonlinear modeling with the adaptability of the NARX structure,
facilitating a more comprehensive representation of the intricate
electrochemical processes within the battery. Experimental data collected
from a Li-ion battery operating under diverse scenarios are employed to
validate the effectiveness of the proposed methodology. The identified
NARX model exhibits superior accuracy in predicting the battery's behavior
compared to traditional linear models. This study underscores the
importance of accounting for nonlinearities in battery modeling, providing
insights into the intricate relationships between state-of-charge, voltage, and
current under dynamic conditions.
Smart grid deployment: from a bibliometric analysis to a surveyIJECEIAES
Smart grids are one of the last decades' innovations in electrical energy.
They bring relevant advantages compared to the traditional grid and
significant interest from the research community. Assessing the field's
evolution is essential to propose guidelines for facing new and future smart
grid challenges. In addition, knowing the main technologies involved in the
deployment of smart grids (SGs) is important to highlight possible
shortcomings that can be mitigated by developing new tools. This paper
contributes to the research trends mentioned above by focusing on two
objectives. First, a bibliometric analysis is presented to give an overview of
the current research level about smart grid deployment. Second, a survey of
the main technological approaches used for smart grid implementation and
their contributions are highlighted. To that effect, we searched the Web of
Science (WoS), and the Scopus databases. We obtained 5,663 documents
from WoS and 7,215 from Scopus on smart grid implementation or
deployment. With the extraction limitation in the Scopus database, 5,872 of
the 7,215 documents were extracted using a multi-step process. These two
datasets have been analyzed using a bibliometric tool called bibliometrix.
The main outputs are presented with some recommendations for future
research.
Use of analytical hierarchy process for selecting and prioritizing islanding ...IJECEIAES
One of the problems that are associated to power systems is islanding
condition, which must be rapidly and properly detected to prevent any
negative consequences on the system's protection, stability, and security.
This paper offers a thorough overview of several islanding detection
strategies, which are divided into two categories: classic approaches,
including local and remote approaches, and modern techniques, including
techniques based on signal processing and computational intelligence.
Additionally, each approach is compared and assessed based on several
factors, including implementation costs, non-detected zones, declining
power quality, and response times using the analytical hierarchy process
(AHP). The multi-criteria decision-making analysis shows that the overall
weight of passive methods (24.7%), active methods (7.8%), hybrid methods
(5.6%), remote methods (14.5%), signal processing-based methods (26.6%),
and computational intelligent-based methods (20.8%) based on the
comparison of all criteria together. Thus, it can be seen from the total weight
that hybrid approaches are the least suitable to be chosen, while signal
processing-based methods are the most appropriate islanding detection
method to be selected and implemented in power system with respect to the
aforementioned factors. Using Expert Choice software, the proposed
hierarchy model is studied and examined.
Enhancing of single-stage grid-connected photovoltaic system using fuzzy logi...IJECEIAES
The power generated by photovoltaic (PV) systems is influenced by
environmental factors. This variability hampers the control and utilization of
solar cells' peak output. In this study, a single-stage grid-connected PV
system is designed to enhance power quality. Our approach employs fuzzy
logic in the direct power control (DPC) of a three-phase voltage source
inverter (VSI), enabling seamless integration of the PV connected to the
grid. Additionally, a fuzzy logic-based maximum power point tracking
(MPPT) controller is adopted, which outperforms traditional methods like
incremental conductance (INC) in enhancing solar cell efficiency and
minimizing the response time. Moreover, the inverter's real-time active and
reactive power is directly managed to achieve a unity power factor (UPF).
The system's performance is assessed through MATLAB/Simulink
implementation, showing marked improvement over conventional methods,
particularly in steady-state and varying weather conditions. For solar
irradiances of 500 and 1,000 W/m2
, the results show that the proposed
method reduces the total harmonic distortion (THD) of the injected current
to the grid by approximately 46% and 38% compared to conventional
methods, respectively. Furthermore, we compare the simulation results with
IEEE standards to evaluate the system's grid compatibility.
Enhancing photovoltaic system maximum power point tracking with fuzzy logic-b...IJECEIAES
Photovoltaic systems have emerged as a promising energy resource that
caters to the future needs of society, owing to their renewable, inexhaustible,
and cost-free nature. The power output of these systems relies on solar cell
radiation and temperature. In order to mitigate the dependence on
atmospheric conditions and enhance power tracking, a conventional
approach has been improved by integrating various methods. To optimize
the generation of electricity from solar systems, the maximum power point
tracking (MPPT) technique is employed. To overcome limitations such as
steady-state voltage oscillations and improve transient response, two
traditional MPPT methods, namely fuzzy logic controller (FLC) and perturb
and observe (P&O), have been modified. This research paper aims to
simulate and validate the step size of the proposed modified P&O and FLC
techniques within the MPPT algorithm using MATLAB/Simulink for
efficient power tracking in photovoltaic systems.
Adaptive synchronous sliding control for a robot manipulator based on neural ...IJECEIAES
Robot manipulators have become important equipment in production lines, medical fields, and transportation. Improving the quality of trajectory tracking for
robot hands is always an attractive topic in the research community. This is a
challenging problem because robot manipulators are complex nonlinear systems
and are often subject to fluctuations in loads and external disturbances. This
article proposes an adaptive synchronous sliding control scheme to improve trajectory tracking performance for a robot manipulator. The proposed controller
ensures that the positions of the joints track the desired trajectory, synchronize
the errors, and significantly reduces chattering. First, the synchronous tracking
errors and synchronous sliding surfaces are presented. Second, the synchronous
tracking error dynamics are determined. Third, a robust adaptive control law is
designed, the unknown components of the model are estimated online by the neural network, and the parameters of the switching elements are selected by fuzzy
logic. The built algorithm ensures that the tracking and approximation errors
are ultimately uniformly bounded (UUB). Finally, the effectiveness of the constructed algorithm is demonstrated through simulation and experimental results.
Simulation and experimental results show that the proposed controller is effective with small synchronous tracking errors, and the chattering phenomenon is
significantly reduced.

A remote laboratory utilizing field-programmable gate array (FPGA) technologies enhances students’ learning experience anywhere and anytime in embedded system design. Existing remote laboratories prioritize hardware access and visual feedback for observing board behavior after programming, neglecting comprehensive debugging tools to resolve errors that require internal signal acquisition. This paper proposes a novel remote embeddedsystem design approach targeting FPGA technologies that are fully interactive via a web-based platform. Our solution provides FPGA board access and debugging capabilities beyond the visual feedback provided by existing remote laboratories. We implemented a lab module that allows users to seamlessly incorporate into their FPGA design. The module minimizes hardware resource utilization while enabling the acquisition of a large number of data samples from the signal during the experiments by adaptively compressing the signal prior to data transmission. The results demonstrate an average compression ratio of 2.90 across three benchmark signals, indicating efficient signal acquisition and effective debugging and analysis. This method allows users to acquire more data samples than conventional methods. The proposed lab allows students to remotely test and debug their designs, bridging the gap between theory and practice in embedded system design.

Rapidly and remotely monitoring and receiving the solar cell systems status parameters, solar irradiance, temperature, and humidity, are critical issues in enhancement their efficiency. Hence, in the present article an improved smart prototype of internet of things (IoT) technique based on embedded system through NodeMCU ESP8266 (ESP-12E) was carried out experimentally. Three different regions at Egypt; Luxor, Cairo, and El-Beheira cities were chosen to study their solar irradiance profile, temperature, and humidity by the proposed IoT system. The monitoring data of solar irradiance, temperature, and humidity were live visualized directly by Ubidots through hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP) protocol. The measured solar power radiation in Luxor, Cairo, and El-Beheira ranged between 216-1000, 245-958, and 187-692 W/m 2 respectively during the solar day. The accuracy and rapidity of obtaining monitoring results using the proposed IoT system made it a strong candidate for application in monitoring solar cell systems. On the other hand, the obtained solar power radiation results of the three considered regions strongly candidate Luxor and Cairo as suitable places to build up a solar cells system station rather than El-Beheira.
An efficient security framework for intrusion detection and prevention in int...IJECEIAES
Over the past few years, the internet of things (IoT) has advanced to connect billions of smart devices to improve quality of life. However, anomalies or malicious intrusions pose several security loopholes, leading to performance degradation and threat to data security in IoT operations. Thereby, IoT security systems must keep an eye on and restrict unwanted events from occurring in the IoT network. Recently, various technical solutions based on machine learning (ML) models have been derived towards identifying and restricting unwanted events in IoT. However, most ML-based approaches are prone to miss-classification due to inappropriate feature selection. Additionally, most ML approaches applied to intrusion detection and prevention consider supervised learning, which requires a large amount of labeled data to be trained. Consequently, such complex datasets are impossible to source in a large network like IoT. To address this problem, this proposed study introduces an efficient learning mechanism to strengthen the IoT security aspects. The proposed algorithm incorporates supervised and unsupervised approaches to improve the learning models for intrusion detection and mitigation. Compared with the related works, the experimental outcome shows that the model performs well in a benchmark dataset. It accomplishes an improved detection accuracy of approximately 99.21%.

DEEP LEARNING FOR SMART GRID INTRUSION DETECTION: A HYBRID CNN-LSTM-BASED MODELijaia
As digital technology becomes more deeply embedded in power systems, protecting the communication
networks of Smart Grids (SG) has emerged as a critical concern. Distributed Network Protocol 3 (DNP3)
represents a multi-tiered application layer protocol extensively utilized in Supervisory Control and Data
Acquisition (SCADA)-based smart grids to facilitate real-time data gathering and control functionalities.
Robust Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) are necessary for early threat detection and mitigation because
of the interconnection of these networks, which makes them vulnerable to a variety of cyberattacks. To
solve this issue, this paper develops a hybrid Deep Learning (DL) model specifically designed for intrusion
detection in smart grids. The proposed approach is a combination of the Convolutional Neural Network
(CNN) and the Long-Short-Term Memory algorithms (LSTM). We employed a recent intrusion detection
dataset (DNP3), which focuses on unauthorized commands and Denial of Service (DoS) cyberattacks, to
train and test our model. The results of our experiments show that our CNN-LSTM method is much better
at finding smart grid intrusions than other deep learning algorithms used for classification. In addition,
our proposed approach improves accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 score, achieving a high detection
accuracy rate of 99.50%.

Prediction of Electrical Energy Efficiency Using Information on Consumer's Ac...PriyankaKilaniya
Energy efficiency has been important since the latter part of the last century. The main object of this survey is to determine the energy efficiency knowledge among consumers. Two separate districts in Bangladesh are selected to conduct the survey on households and showrooms about the energy and seller also. The survey uses the data to find some regression equations from which it is easy to predict energy efficiency knowledge. The data is analyzed and calculated based on five important criteria. The initial target was to find some factors that help predict a person's energy efficiency knowledge. From the survey, it is found that the energy efficiency awareness among the people of our country is very low. Relationships between household energy use behaviors are estimated using a unique dataset of about 40 households and 20 showrooms in Bangladesh's Chapainawabganj and Bagerhat districts. Knowledge of energy consumption and energy efficiency technology options is found to be associated with household use of energy conservation practices. Household characteristics also influence household energy use behavior. Younger household cohorts are more likely to adopt energy-efficient technologies and energy conservation practices and place primary importance on energy saving for environmental reasons. Education also influences attitudes toward energy conservation in Bangladesh. Low-education households indicate they primarily save electricity for the environment while high-education households indicate they are motivated by environmental concerns.

The extensive use of fossil fuel is destroying the balance of nature that could
lead to many problems in the forthcoming era. Renewable energy resources
are a ray of hope to avoid possible destruction. Smart grid and distributed
power generation systems are now mainly built with the help of renewable
energy resources. The integration of renewable energy production system
with the smart grid and distributed power generation is facing many
challenges that include addressing the issue of isolation and power quality.
This paper presents a new approach to address the aforementioned issues by
proposing a hybrid bypass technique concept to improve the overall
performance of the grid-tied inverter in solar power generation. The
topology with the proposed technique is presented using traditional H5, oH5
and H6 inverter. Comparison of topologies with literature is carried out to
check the feasibility of the method proposed. It is found that the leakage
current of all the proposed inverters is 9 mA and total harmonic distortion is
almost about 2%. The proposed topology has good efficiency, common
mode and differential mode characteristics.

1. INTRODUCTION
According to long-term national strategies traditional power generation resources are unsustainable.
Moreover, the electricity generation system is primarily reliant on fossil fuel combustion. Because those
resources are nonrenewable and are considered the principal cause of contamination, substantial research is
being performed to develop new alternative energy sources and upgrade renewable energy sources.
Renewable energy resources have been widely installed for grid interconnection in the recent decade [1]-[3].
In contrary to the remaining renewable energy sources, wind and photovoltaic (PV) are usually used as a
backup system to the major production resources [4]. A solar PV system is one of the most common solar-
powered renewable energy source. Photovoltaic panels rely on the sun's radiation to generate electricity.
There is enough sunlight during the day to keep the cells operating at maximum efficiency. However, energy
production drops dramatically in the evening. Although most power is being used during the day, it is also
needed at night. The energy utilisation counter can be inverted unless the photovoltaic panels are connected
to the power grid, forcing the need to store power generated during the day so that it can be used overnight or
on heavy rainy nights [5]. Despite these solar PV installation has exploded in recent years, and in some
countries, it now plays a critical role in electricity generation. Figure 1 shows power generation using
renewable energy resources worldwide over the last decade [6]. Figure 2 shows solar capacity in the top five

countries in 2020 [7]. It can be observed that the cumulative generation of power using solar energy is
rapidly increasing compared to other renewable energies. Hence, integrating the solar power systems in
distributed power generation system plays an important role and hence the power converters required.

The grid-tied inverter has a DC-DC converter, inverter and control system. The DC-DC converter
are used to boost the power received from the PV panel to the required level and to give stable output. It
requires a control algorithm to control the power switches used. The inverter receives a DC from the boost
converter and converts it into AC power that can be either used to run exiting loads or can be fed into the grid
to form a grid-connected inverter. The two functions that a grid-connected PV inverter system must fulfil are
the ability to track the maximum power point (MPPT) to collect the maximum power from solar PV and the
capacity to realise a voltage and current control technique for smooth power flow to the load and grid [8], [9].
As a result, the grid-tied inverter system keeps the DC link voltage constant and regulates the flow of active
and reactive power to the grid [10], [11]. Grid-connected PV systems range in size from a few hundred watts
to hundreds of megawatts. A stray or parasitic capacitance exists between the photovoltaic cell and earth
ground. Hence a leakage current flows between the grid and the photovoltaic cell when photovoltaic cells are
used to generate power in a distributed power generation system. As a result, isolation between the grid and
the photovoltaic cell must be provided to prevent the flow of this leakage current, which causes
electromagnetic interference and is also dangerous [12]. The stray capacitance varies up to 150 nF/kW
depending on the atmospheric conditions [13]. To prevent leakage current, a low-frequency transformer is

used as an isolator. The line transformer makes the inverter bulkier, heavier, and more expensive. As a result,
in a grid-tied inverter, the line transformer is removed. This transformerless grid-tied inverter offers lower
cost, lighter weight, smaller volume, higher efficiency and less complexity compared to transformer-based
inverters. To reduce the leakage current, the removed transformer must be compensated with a suitable
galvanic isolation technique. Figure 3(a) show a conventional full-bridge inverter with four switches. When
used in transformerless grid-tied inverter it is necessary to provide isolation to avoid the problems related to
leakage current. The topologies built with galvanic isolation technique are primarily divided into two
categories based on leakage current reduction approaches. They are galvanic isolation with common-mode
voltage clamping and galvanic isolation without common-mode voltage clamping.
Grid-tied inverters like the H5 inverter [14] and its derivatives use the DC-bypass technique that
uses galvanic isolation without a common-mode voltage clamping approach; to prevent leakage current from
flowing between the grid and the photovoltaic cell. As shown in Figure 3(b), H5 is a full-bridge inverter with
four power switches S1–S4 and a switch S5 connecting the photovoltaic cell to the full-bridge to achieve DC-
Bypass. The gating signals are applied to power switches in such a way that switch S5 disconnects the
photovoltaic cell from the inverter and thus from the grid during the freewheeling mode. To reduce leakage
current, the highly efficient reliable inverter concept (Heric) and its derivatives use an AC-bypass technique
which also comes under galvanic isolation without a common-mode voltage clamping approach. Heric has a
full-bridge with four switches S1–S4 similar to the conventional full-bridge inverter. As mentioned in [15],
additional switches S5 and S6 are added at the inverter output. The freewheeling current flows through these
two switches in AC-bypass, preventing current from reaching the photovoltaic cell and thus disconnecting
the photovoltaic cell from the grid. This inverter is more efficient than the H5 inverter because there are no
additional switches in the active mode current path. The galvanic isolation with a common-mode voltage
clamping approach is used in [16]. In this method, switches are connected in such a way that during
freewheeling mode common-mode voltage is always equal to neutral point voltage. Hence the galvanic
isolation can be acquired either on the AC side or the DC side of full-bridge or by using neutral point
clamped topology by incorporating extra switches. Since a lower number of switches are present in the
conduction path AC bypassing offers high efficiency than the DC bypass technique. In the AC bypass
technique, high-frequency ripples may be present in the inverter due to the formation of a resonance circuit
between the junction capacitance and the filter components. On the other hand, the neutral point clamping
technique helps in keeping the common mode voltage constant that intern helps in keeping the leakage
current as less as possible, but it requires spilt capacitors that must be balanced to gain the advantage of this
approach.
Recently, much of the work has been focused on common ground technology. In common ground as
name indicates, the PV ground and the grid grounds are connected together. As the two grounds are
connected directly the common mode voltage becomes zero hence common mode leakage current as well.
The author has proposed an inverter topology named as Type-I, Type-II and Type-III in [17]. Along with
zero leakage current the main advantage of these topologies are in Type-I only two switches are active in
power on mode while in Type-II only one switch. In Type-III author proposes a means of using a full bridge
inverter in common ground configuration. Further another common ground topology that uses switched
capacitor and virtual DC-link technique was presented in [18] with which it was possible to boost the voltage
to two times without any extra inductors. The same author has proposed another similar topology in [19]. The
difference in this topology is the number of devices used are lesser than used in the topology presented in
[18]. Hence the cost of the inverter is expected to reduce along with all aforementioned advantages. An eight
switch- five level inverter is proposed in [20] the advantage of the topology is that with only few number of
switches it was able to achieve five levels and also the maximum number of switches coming in conduction
path are limited to three. Hence this topology yields more efficiency. Due to the increase in levels the overall
stress on the power devices is decreased and the power quality is also improved. Similar to this another
multilevel inverter is proposed in [21] which carries the same benefits of eight switch five level inverter. A
five-level inverter that employs series parallel switching conversion along with common ground technique is
presented in [22]. Due to common grounding the leakage current is reduced and also it has reduced
harmonics. Another similar type of five-level inverter with series parallel switching conversion and common
ground technique is proposed in [23]. The main advantage of the inverter is, with only one stage it was able
to output five-levels and also enhanced the output voltage. Common ground is a leading technique in the
present year even though it has some limitations such as the requirement of large capacitor and the
requirement of controlling the flow of inrush current in to this large capacitor which may damage the entire
unit [24].
To take an advantage of all the isolation technique a hybrid topology which is a fusion of different
inverter topologies can be used [25]. They are expected to yield good performance compared to using a
single approach. Extensive work is already available in the literature that suggests the integration of neutral
point clamping with the AC decoupling technique [26]-[28]. However, there is little research on the

integration of all DC bypass with neutral point clamping, which may result in greater performance. In this
paper, an effort is put in proposing one such hybrid technique for reducing the leakage current and the
performance of the inverter is analyzed at the end.
The remainder of this paper is organized as follows: Section 2 includes a discussion on the proposed
topology. Simulation results and comparison of the inverters are examined in section 3. Section 4 provides
concluding remarks and future scope for the proposed hybrid method.
2. PROPOSED TOPOLOGY
As mentioned earlier to take an advantage of different approaches of leakage current reduction
methods, a topology is proposed in this paper that includes a combination of DC bypassing and neutral point
clamping. Figure 3(a) shows a conventional full-bridge inverter consisting of four switches S1-S4. In full
bridge, each switch is operated with its dedicated driver circuit for applying sin pulse width modulated signal.
The number of levels at the output of the inverter plays a significant role while designing a low pass filter for
removing switching frequency components at the output of an inverter. The filter inductor size and hence the
cost of filtering reduces with an increase in levels.
The conventional bipolar sine pulse width modulation (BSPWM) provides two levels, while
unipolar and hybrid techniques provide three levels at the output. Hence from the filter design point of view,
unipolar sine pulse width modulation (USPWM) and hybrid sine pulse width modulation (HSPWM)
techniques are suitable. Also, the efficiency of both USPWM and HSPWM is better compared to BSPWM.
The common-mode characteristics of the full-bridge inverter are always good in BSPWM mode, yet due to
the advantages offered by USPWM and HSPWM, it's better to select any one of these two control signals for
operating a full-bridge inverter. Among USPWM and HSPWM the latter gives good common mode
performance. Hence, in the proposed topology HSPWM technique is used to control the power switches. To
compare the results at every step, the full-bridge inverter is also simulated with the HSPWM technique.
Two diodes D1 and D2 are connected back-to-back in full bridge inverter as shown in Figure 3(c) to
establish neutral point clamping. These diodes even though don’t provide isolation, helps in clamping the
output of the inverter to the neutral point during the freewheeling mode. For inclusion of DC bypass, a well-
known H5 topology is selected that has an extra switch S5 at PV positive side or negative side. As DC
bypassing at the negative side gives the best results in the proposed topology the switch is connected between
PV negative and full-bridge inverter with HSPWM is used as shown in Figure 3(b). The switch S5 is active
during inverter powering mode and is switched off during both negative and positive freewheeling mode. To
form a hybrid model H5 inverter is integrated with the neutral point clamping network as suggested in
Figure 3(c). Hence the complete circuit of the proposed Hybrid bypass topology is as shown in Figure 3(d).
In the structure of the topology, it can be noted that the diodes D1 and D2 make sure that the leakage
current doesn't reach PV ground and under the non-ideal condition where the junction capacitances of the
switches form a resonance along with the filter circuit the DC bypass switch keeps the PV module in
isolation from the inverter. Hence, most of the leakage current flows through diodes D1 or D2 and finally
reaches the neutral clamped point which considerably reduces the overall leakage current in the inverter. The
same method can be applied for optimized H5 inverter presented in [29]. As shown in Figure 3(e). For better
performance an IGBT without body diode as switch S7 is used. The pwm signal applied to it is complement
of the power switch S5. Another DC-bypass inverter known as H6 inverter proposed in [30] is considered to
check the feasibility of the proposed method. Figure 3(f) shows integration of H6 inverter with proposed
clamping network. The PWM pulse for switch S6 is same as switch S5. All the three proposed inverter
provides similar common mode and differential mode characteristics. But the resultant leakage current and
common mode voltage is considerably reduced compared to their basic version. Among all the three
inverters, number of power devices required are less in proposed H5-NPC. Hence only the topology H5-NPC
is considered for further analysis. The inverter operates in four modes as explained;
2.1. Mode-I
Mode-I is a positive powering mode in this positive current flow through the load/AC grid-
connected at the output of an inverter. The gating signals applied to the proposed inverter is as shown in
Figure 3(g). In this mode S1, S5 are operating at switching frequency while S4 is operated at grid frequency.
Both S2 and S3 are turned OFF. The flow of current direction in mode-I is as shown in Figure 4(a). The line
voltage VAN is at VPV and VBN is zero volts. The calculation of common-mode voltage Vcm and differential-
mode voltage VAB can be done using (1) and (2). Hence, for mode-I Vcm and VAB are given by (3) and (4). It
can be observed that even after clamping the output to VPV/2 the output voltage in Mode-I is same as the
applied input voltage VPV. While in conventional neutral point clamping the output voltage is half of the
input voltage that affects the overall performance of the inverter.

connected at the output of the inverter. In this mode S3, S5 are operating at switching frequency while S2 is
operated at grid frequency. Both S1 and S4 are turned OFF. The flow of current direction in mode-III is as
shown in Figure 4(c). The line voltage VAN is at zero volts and VBN is -VPV. Hence, for mode-III Vcm and VAB

Mode-IV is a negative freewheeling mode, in this negative freewheeling current flows. The gating
signals applied to the proposed inverter is as shown in Figure 3(g). In this mode, S2 is ON while S1, S3, S4
and S5 are turned OFF. The flow of current direction in mode-IV is as shown in Figure 4(d). The line voltage
VAN is at VPV/2 and VBN is also VPV/2 volts. Hence, for mode-IV Vcm and VAB are given by (9) and (10). The

3. SIMULATION MODEL RESULTS AND COMPARISON
To test and compare the results of the proposed hybrid bypass technique, all the circuits shown in
Figure 3 are simulated using MATLAB Simulink. The simulation parameters used for testing the proposed
topology are listed in Table 1. Second-order LCL filter with design techniques proposed in [31] is used to
calculate the values of filter components. Achievement of grid synchronization for having control on active
and reactive power is also essential to operate the inverter under grid optimal condition. The control system
of the inverter must also include an MPPT control algorithm for generating a pulse for the DC-DC converter
connected between the photovoltaic module and the inverter. In the presented work it is assumed that the DC-

DC converter is controlled by the best MPPT algorithm and hence only the control algorithm required for
grid synchronization is modelled. A well-known DQ-frame based active and reactive power current
controller presented in [32] is used in the proposed inverter for generating the reference signal that is required
to generate the HSPWM signal. The block level implementation of DQ-frame based current controller is as
shown in Figure 5. The grid voltage, current and line & phase voltages of the proposed inverter are as shown
in Figures 6(a), and 6(b) respectively. The common-mode voltage and currents of full bridge, H5, H4-2D,
and H5-NPC inverter are as shown in Figures 7(a) to 7(d). In these figures, it can be observed that with
hybrid pulse width modulation, a single technique of galvanic isolation doesn't provide noticeable results.
When it is integrated with neutral point clamping, leakage current has significantly dropped to 9 mA RMS
and 88 mA P-P. Table 2 shows the comparison of the proposed inverters with literature concerning the
number of power devices used, leakage current and total harmonic distortion. The listed results are obtained
after simulating the referred topologies in the same model used to test the proposed topology. It can be noted
from the comparison that the proposed inverter uses minimum number of power devices and gives leakage
current within the acceptable limits of German DIN VDE 0126-1-1 i.e. 30 mA RMS [33], [34] and also has
the harmonic distortion content within the limit stated by IEEE Std 519-2014 [35]. It is observed that oH5-
NPC and H6-NPC inverter leakage current is lesser than its traditional versions and total harmonic distortion
is lesser than H5-NPC topology. Figures 7(e) and 7(f) shows voltage stress on the power devices.

4. CONCLUSION
In this paper, an effort is made to display the concept of a hybrid bypassing technique to improve
the performance of the inverter. Even though in literature there are many hybrid models available the efforts
made in using both DC bypass and neutral point clamping are lesser compared to integrating AC bypass and
neutral clamping. In this paper to support the concept proposed a new single-phase grid-tied inverters with a
hybrid bypass technique that integrates DC bypass and neutral point clamping is presented. The performance
of the proposed topology is compared with literature and it is found that the presented concept yields a
leakage current of about 9 mA RMS, total harmonic distortion of about 2%. As the number of devices used in
the inverter is considerably less compared to other topologies referred to, the proposed inverter is expected to
exhibit good efficiency. The leakage current and common-mode voltage of the inverter has high-frequency
ripples in the proposed inverter. Hence improvement in terms of removing these high-frequency ripples can
be carried out in the near future. A pulse width modulation technique can be revamped to see if these
inverters can be operated at twice the switching frequency.
