Bones And Ichabod Crane In Washington Irving s The Legend...
If someone is afraid of ghost and goblins, they should not go to Sleepy Hollow! In the passage The
Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving, there are two characters named Brom Bones and
Ichabod Crane. These men are very different from each other, though Ichabod and Brom think similar
about some things. These are some characteristics of Ichabod. Ichabod move from town to town
teaching children, and he also taught singing. The kids whom he taught often laughed at his tall, lanky
body with small shoulders, long arms, long legs, huge ears, pointy nose, and his huge green eyes, But
despite his looks he was a very well educated man. In paragraph 4 , it states, He had read several
books quite through, and was a perfect master of Cotton

Youth Culture and Social Change
Youth Culture and Social Change
Introduction
Culture can be defined as the shared values, customs, beliefs, behaviours and knowledge of a
particular group or society.[1] Similarly, youth culture refers to the shared values, etc. of individuals in
their teenage and young adult years. During the last century, the world around us has changed greatly,
and as a result of this, so too has youth culture changed. In this investigation, the ways in which social
change has influenced youth culture from the 1960 s to today will be explored and how changes in
factors such as the media and technology, male/female roles in relationships, attitudes towards parents
and elders and values have played a part in shaping this.

seen as socially unacceptable with many teenagers who became pregnant being thrown out of the
family home by parents.[10] This was a result of contraceptives not being as easier acquired. The pill
was not generally available and condoms were only available from chemists and barbers and at three
shillings a pack. Too expensive us teens to buy. says Davis.
Today, teenagers and young adults are not only taught by their parents but also through the media
about a relationship. This has brought about a generation where the male and female sex can be seen
to be more equal in their roles in relationships. For example, it is becoming more and more common
for a girl to ask a guy to go out to catch a movie, hit a club, or just hang out. However, according to
Tresize, this change has also caused some confusion to males in relationships. We now get mixed
messages from partners in relationships. There are some girls who want the guy in a relationship to be
either strong or vulnerable, or take charge or not to dominate. It s confusing! Following the sexual
revolution in the late 60 s, sexual behavior in relationships has also been normalised by the media.
With an increase in teenage dramas on TV, teenagers and young adults are now witnessing scenes that

Pulmonary Embolism Research Paper
A pulmonary embolism (PE) is an obstruction of a blood vessel in the lungs, usually due to a blood
clot. A saddle pulmonary embolism means that the obstruction or clot is blocking both sides of an
arterial branch of the lungs. We are all subject to developing a pulmonary embolism, but conditions
such as immobility, cancer, heart disease, and surgery can increase our risk. Some common signs and
symptoms include shortness of breath, chest pain and cough. A pulmonary embolism can threaten your
life, but immediate treatment can greatly reduce the risk of death. In addition to prompt treatment, we
can all take measures to prevent blood clots by knowing our family history, remaining mobile, and
staying hydrated. PE s can be treated surgically, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A V/Q scan uses radioactive material to see how well air and blood are flowing to all areas of the lung.
A pulmonary angiography is an accurate, invasive test that is used to diagnose pulmonary embolism. A
trained specialist threads a catheter through the groin or arm to the blood vessels in the lung. A dye is
then injected so that a picture can be taken of the blood flow through the blood vessels in the lungs.
Not available at all hospitals, this test is administered by a trained specialist. A spiral CT scan is a
special type of x ray that takes pictures of structures inside the body. A doctor will inject a dye into a
vein, which will allow the blood vessels in the lungs to be seen. This is a very quick test and results
are available shortly after the scan is completed. A MRI is a test utilizing radio waves that shows
pictures of organs and structures inside the body that may not show up on an x ray. To check for blood
clots inside the heart and to view heart function, an echocardiogram may be ordered. This test uses
sound waves. It can also determine other possible causes for the symptoms that are being experienced.
A D dimer is a blood test that measures a substance in the blood that is released when a clot breaks up.
High levels may indicate a clot. A

A Summary Of Women Effrage
Gender gap cannot be dismantled by only amending laws against sex discrimination, but when it
enables all to the same share in law. Women need to break through barriers to be on the path to
success. Women are not men and need not compete with men to show her vitality. Women bleeds and
is not a choice, this does not mean men need to bleed. Women require challenging patriarchy rather
than each other. Akhila had a barrier in her life of her fears to do things for herself. Fear can give no
power, but facing truth sets a being free. Her emotions are not to be squished but nurtured well.
Wearing masks one after another to please the society only weakens the natural energy of a female.
We need not cover up our insecurity from the world. Women should stop dying from things that
happened in past. It is ok to be imperfect, which is human. Women do not require finding their identity
in the comparison with men. When a woman stands up to voice for herself, she raises up for all the
women globally.
Anita Nair s Ladies Coupe has narratives by six women characters who by chance meet in a train
ladies coupe that Akhilandeswari alias Akhila boards in. all the women speak of the repressive forces
of a patriarchal India. Though they are from different community or cultural, all women share pain in
different means. The novel is a bildungsroman either narrating the childhood to adulthood life or the
characters liberation by developing confidence to shun the web of patriarchal metaphors.

The Epistemology of Hegel s Introduction to the...
The Epistemology of Hegel s Introduction to the Phenomenology of Spirit In his Phenomenology of
Spirit, G.W.F. Hegel lays out a process by which one may come to know absolute truth. This process
shows a gradual evolution from a state of natural consciousness (56) (1) to one of complete self
consciousness which leads to an understanding of the nature of absolute knowledge itself (66). By
understanding the relation between consciousness and truth, one may come to know the true nature of
our existence. Hegel proposes to answer these questions in one bold stroke; he relates them in such a
way as to make an infinitely complex and indiscernible universe a unitary whole. This process from a
natural state to a kind of transcendence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is another implicit falsity in this way of thinking, however. The intellect as instrument implies
that the intellect is an entity distinct from ourselves (54). It also assumes that the absolute stands fixed
on one side while the intellect stands off by itself on the other (54), which leads to a major flaw in this
train of thought. By completely separating the intellect and the absolute, this method separates the
knowledge that the intellect may possess from the absolute as well, thus denying that which the
intellect knows of any truth.
To escape from this conundrum, one must assume that knowledge and consciousness are related in
some way. Another less palatable option might be the acceptance of different kinds of truths, but
Hegel will have none of that. He insists that the absolute alone is true, truth nothing if not absolute
(55). Unfortunately, traditional science also makes this instrumental assumption, restricting
consciousness from the absolute. But Hegel insists that science should not be discarded. One could
throw out science because it presumes this separation, but instead one should try to refit science to this
purpose (56). Thus, one must establish a new method of determining the truth.
To find the truth, one must have a

Everyday people get dress without ever glancing at the Tag. A tag that tell a shocking story if

how it was made. For years, companies like Adidas have used sweatshop to produce their good at a
low cost while selling the merchandise at higher price. The Real World: Introduction to Sociology
defines sweatshop as A workplace where workers are subject to extreme exploitation, including below
standard wages, long hours, and poor working conditions that may pose health or safety hazards .

Grade Inflation Is The Biggest Issue
Is Grade Inflation Truly The Biggest Issue? Grade inflation, the belief that students are receiving
grades that they haven t worked for and therefore don t deserve. But what s so wrong about grade
inflation? When learning about this subject we also open the doors to learning about the multitude of
other problems plaguing our educational system that could use our attention much more than grade
inflation does. Through grade inflation we re able to understand problems often forgotten about and
looked over. When researching into the topic of grade inflation one begins to see a multitude of
problems arise that have been previously ignored and have been left to continue wreaking havoc on
the educational system. Mark Oppenheimer shares a similar points of view in his article where he
discussed his opinion, that grade inflation is one of the much lesser issues and that we need to be
focusing on other things.(other things, just quote his article). His ideas are countered by the ideas of
people such as Rojstaczer who argue that grade inflation is becoming an out of control issue that needs
to be fixed (add in quotes from the book and article) In the past colleges like Princeton and Wellesley
have tried to adopt policies to help curb grade inflation. Even though it lowered the percentages of
high grades, effectively lowering the amount of grade inflation, it came with the cost of unforeseen
consequences that affected the students and staff. In his article Rojstaczer

increase the risk of debt. Therefore, to avoid the use of debt financing, debt risk can be controlled at a

be in a controlled range of operations, rather than being forced by the debt. This investment
philosophy can also be wielded in life. That suggests people should buy things within their own

Anne Boleyn s The First Wife Of Henry Viii Essay
Anne Boleyn is a figure that continues to fascinate us centuries after she met her end on the scaffold.
The story goes that King Henry struggles with his conscience when it becomes clear that his wife
Catherine will not give him a male heir. He meets Anne and falls in love, and as a consequence breaks
with Rome and the Holy Roman Catholic Church to marry her. When she too fails to produce the
elusive son he desires he has her executed. The second wife of Henry VIII, Anne s is a biography that
many know, and yet this juxtaposes with the reality that her story is often oversimplified by the
salacious details of her life. In the context of the early English reformation, Anne was a player to the
colossal events of this period and for this, her role in them deserves to be more closely examined.
Anne is a fundamental part of the reformation to the extent that she allowed the door on it to be
cracked open through key events such as the divorce from Catherine of Aragon, the King s Great
Matter , the Break with Rome, and the Royal Supremacy to take place. The idea of divorcing his first
wife was not a relatively new one for King Henry. He had been married to Catherine of Aragon for
almost two decades by the late 1520s. For years Henry had had a growing concern as Catherine, six
years his senior, passed her childbearing years behind. It became increasingly likely she would not be
able to bear a son. During their marriage, they had suffered misfortune, from multiple

successful in making autonomous decisions, it is difficult to achieve coordination or undertake
collective action. If each member maintains its identity, then the common identity, the status, and the
ease of interaction will be threatened. M O members have not only strong reasons to maintain their
identity and autonomy, but also great capacity to do so, since many M O members have more
resources and more status than their own M O. According to Ahrne Brunsson, it is important for an M
O to attract members with the highest status. If the purpose is to maintain or increase the status of the
members, the M O must be able to include and retain the most important members because its
legitimacy is dependent on the success to recruit potential affiliates. Some organizations are more
attractive than others are , and for the M O to recruit all relevant members, it has to recruit the most

The Supernatural And Natural Aspects Of Women In The Old Ages
In olden times, women were mostly seen as possessions or things to be won by men. There simply
wasn t anything better than a beautiful woman, a heap of gold, and the power to control people. If you
wanted a family, you had to have a wife to cook, clean, birth and rear your offspring. Despite the
previous aspects of the old way of life being represented in these myths, they also demonstrate how
sometimes carrying out the plan for a perfect family leaves you utterly alone. In these stories, women
tied to the supernatural and natural elements are shown to be an almost forbidden fruit for men.
Repeatedly, they try to win the maidens through trickery and stealth but the woman eventually escapes
their grasp. This ties in with the purposes behind these myths. Which are to inform others on a specific
way of life, explain rare beauty through supernatural phenomena, to educate on past formalities and to
pass on knowledge to new generations by utilizing storytelling.
The first myth, The Water Maid, is a German tale about a knight who gets lost in Harz Forest and
stumbles upon what he believes to be an inhabited castle. As the story progresses, he discovers that a
lone woman lives there. It was probably strange for him to discover this during this time, due to
women not usually living in the middle of a forest with a house that she alone possessed. The pair
became fast friends and eventually even husband and wife, but on one condition: that she d disappear

Animal Experimentation Should Be Banned
The greatness of a nation can be judged by the way its animals are treated. Mahatma Gandhi. These
famous words still ring true in today s society as we struggle to overcome the scientific

animals are inhumanely used for experimentation in both medical and cosmetic industries. The
cosmetic industry puts defenseless animal through painful experiments for the luxury of their

procedures that caused more than momentary pain or pain/distress, while 84,000 were used in studies
that would cause pain or distress that would not be relieved by anesthesia. (Badyal, Dinesh; Desai,

North Shore Oil Exploration and Drilling
There is some evidence that oil exists under the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. This has led to a
huge debate as to whether or not companies should be allowed to drill for this oil. A law was passed
by congress in 1980 that states production of oil and gas from the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is
prohibited and no leasing or other development leading to production of oil and gas from the [Refuge]

Congress would have liked to time the drilling in ANWR in correlation with the highest world market
prices for oil. Since those prices are so hard to predict, America feels like now is as good of time as
any. Elliott Negin, spokesman for the Natural Resources Defense Council in Washington, said the oil
in ANWR will have no effect on the global price of oil because it is to small an amount. Even pro
drilling lobbyists agree that the amount of oil in ANWR would not affect America s oil problems. Why
then do they continue to lobby pro drilling in the refuge?
What are some benefits of drilling in ANWR? Unemployment is currently at an all time high. With the
establishment of oil rigs and drills around the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, there would be a total
of 700,000 new jobs for Americans. True, these jobs will disappear in a few decades when the drilling
in completed, but maybe by then there will be new opportunities for the workers. By drilling in
ANWR, we would reduce the amount of imported oil by 5 percent which is equivalent to one year s
total imports. It would also keep the price of gas lower here then in other countries around the world.

M.A.D.D. was nationally recognized for supporting the law that the legal limit of driving while

the United States, making the chance of an intoxicated person driving and injuring themselves or
others much lower. Also, as the result of lobbying and M.A.D.D. s efforts in changing the law, the
state of California also passed a law that enhanced the penalties and fines for re offenses of DUI

The Importance Of Self-Agency
You are given a first day of school questionnaire for the teacher to get to know you; how much of your
answers are the real deal, and how much of it is tailored to put you in the teacher s good books? Upon
asking this question the next thought could be; what or who defines what the real answer is or the
fabricated one, and does it matter which ones we choose to write down? The long debated questions
surrounding the extent of self agency have been explored through literature and other mediums for
decades, specifically with rebellious characters like Edna in Kate Chopin s The Awakening, essays by
psychologists like Paul Bloom expanding on the idea of more than one self in, First Person Plural, and
self reflective pieces on adulthood like Sandra Loh s, On Being a Bad Mother. Through the
assessment of a variety of work of this nature, it is logical to conclude that we are neither completely
governed by our external circumstances, nor are we in full control of ourselves; instead we must
acknowledge the multiple facets of who we are, recognize the different repercussions of suppressing
some of those facets, and finally strive to find a balance between our internal and external locus of
control. For convenience s sake, the average person has thought of themselves as precisely that
themselves; but what if we didn t? The notion that we are comprised of one entity has been accepted
as a definite by society, and if one acts otherwise, it is diagnosed as what s commonly known

Blue Crabs
Maryland is known for their blue crabs, but if crabbers exploit the blue crabs population, Maryland s
famous blue crabs will be extinct. Blue crabs play a large economic role in Maryland as they bring in
money for the state, whether it be from people going crabbing or eating crabs. With all the benefits of
blue crabs in Maryland, the government has taken a stand to ensure a large blue crab population in the
future.
The blue crab population in the Chesapeake Bay was considered to be a surplus from the 1950s to
around the 2000s as well as in the Bay s tributaries (Stagg Whilden, 1997). The blue crabs in
Maryland live for about three years (Stagg Whilden, 1997). This is part of the reason that it s so
important that a high level of blue crabs is maintained so that they ll be able to produce offspring
future generations. Approximately 75% of the entire blue crab population is made up of the crabs in
Maryland (Lui, 2015). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The female blue crab population increased by 32 million from 2014 to 2015 to be a 101 million ( Blue
Crab , 2016). In 2016, the female blue crab population also rose dramatically. The female population
increased by 93 million for there to be a total of 194 million female blue crabs ( Blue Crab , 2016).
This increase was important because it showed the regulations place were working and that they did
not need to be modified. Also, the female blue crab population is substantially over the threshold of 70
million, which infers that the blue crabs are not being overharvested. The total blue crab population in
Maryland increased by 114 million in 2015 and by 142 million in 2016 to 553 million ( 2016 Blue,
2016). The rise in the total population supported that the regulations in effect were beneficial to help
the blue crab population increase. With the 10% decrease in the total amount that the female blue
crabs were harvested, the population was able to steadily increase over the coming

Hitler And Antisemitism
The experience of the war, economic crisis and the discontent caused by the conditions of the Treaty
of Versailles created a favourable condition for a rise of utopian revolutionary movements such as
Fascism in Italy and National Socialism in Germany. By placing the regeneration of the nation as one
of their main objectives, they provided a dream of recreating a sense of community among the
members of their nations whilst providing a sense of security through national myths and symbols,
which left little or no room for those who were different. According to Mosse, war had transformed
politics into a drama built upon shared emotions , and racism, thus, all too easily provided unity to this
drama . Yet, the leaders of those movements, Hitler, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, united by the same goals, the two regimes expressed different understanding and use of the
main concepts of race and its relation to politics. Whereas the political domain in Germany was
formed on the basis of racial thinking immediately after Hitler came to power, for Mussolini the racial
laws were introduced later as a tool to give fascism a new dynamic. Racism represented the most
radical initiative of the fascist project of remaking Italians as a way of regenerating the Italian nation.
Although the racial law of fascist regime was based on Nuremberg laws, the racial thinking has been
fused from the imperial policy on conquest of Ethiopia. In Italy, the racial law allowed to model new
national identity by clearing it from foreign elements which were regarded as degenerative and having
negative influence on the nation. Similarly, for Nazi Germany the desire to bring the nation to a
common awareness of its ethnic and political unity required a common enemy in a face of the Jews.
Thus Jews symbolised many things the Nazi wanted to destroy within the german society in order to
achieve its resurrection. But none of it would have been possible if German policies would not have

Human Nature In Lord Of The Flies Character Analysis
Andrew Sink
Mr. McCain

Raw Human Nature
In the novel Lord of The Flies by William Golding, a plane crashes on an island and a group of young
English boys are forced to fend for themselves as well as each other in hope of rescue. In this novel
Golding makes several comments on the tendencies of man when in the absence of a social structure.
Throughout the book, Golding tells the reader about human nature. When humans completely give in
to human nature, chaos erupts. Through the use of the fire, the beast, and Piggy s glasses William
Golding shows how human nature slowly pulls away from civilization when there is no social
structure.
One way that Golding conveys his message about human nature is with the fire and its smoke. In a
sense, the fire is an indicator of the civilization level of the boys. Towards the beginning of the story,
Ralph works very hard at keeping up the fire. The other boys help him because they want to be
rescued as well. They want the fire to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From the very beginning of the novel it s obvious that Piggy s glasses are important. They are a
symbol of power. Piggy s glasses hold within them the power of fire. Power is something craved by
most people on the island, especially Jack. This craving is due to the tendencies of human nature.
Ralph uses Piggy s specs so he can make his signal fires, but when Jack breaks away and forms his
own tribe. He steals Piggy s glasses so he can have fire for cooking his meat. The spectacles have the
power to save them all from the island, such as Ralph s signal fires, or destroy them all, such as Jack
creating a forest fire in an attempt to kill Ralph. Ralph tries to use the spectacles to get rescued and
Jack tries to use the spectacles to kill Ralph and gain power. The craving for power drives both sides,
which is one of the main tendencies of human nature that Golding talks

The Importance Of Music And Language
Music and language share a commonality; the same way phrases are structured in music, can be seen
when thoughts are structured in sentences of different languages. Music plays a role in memory,
auditory attention, and different structures of language, such as the syntax and phonemes, which can
improve on reading and writing skills. Bidelman et al. has shown that when it comes to music and
language, speech pitch processing can differ between musicians and non musicians, where there are
evidence that music can show sensitivity to the pitch sound toward musicians. It can also depend on
musicians who speak foreign languages, which will focus on the influence of domain specific
experience on the encoding of pitch. It can also depend on musical expertise. Rochette et al. has used
musical lessons on deaf children to test if musical education plays a factor on them, since other studies
have shown that music being able to use auditory perception, auditory cognition, and phonetic
discrimination. The results showed that those who were trained acquired the skills more than those
who weren t and is an excellent strategy for increasing linguistic processing. On the emotional side,
Ma and Thompson wanted to show that acoustic environments, such as sounds from human actions,
animal calls, etc. can change human emotions. The hypothesis of music and speech being closely
related brought the idea of the musical protolanguage hypothesis, that songlike communication was
used in courtship and

Why Overfishing Is Bad
Fishing is a great hobby for the average Joe. People fish for fun, family bonding, and to make a living.

There are multiple ways of protecting our oceans and keeping a balanced, ecologically diverse
population of fish. An effective way of preventing overfishing is instituting preventative legislature.
Developed and developing countries may consider passing laws that protect certain fish or certain

sanctuaries to protect aquatic animals like the National Marine Sanctuaries,

Jalen was placed in the rear of my marked Police vehicle. Prior to entering my vehicle, I completed as

Police vehicle. Both were transported to 1337 Copperstone Circle, where the vehicle was located. I
gathered Jalen s parent information at this time.
I spoke with Marlon about additional items in the vehicle the victims said should be in there. I asked if

He spent the next two years working fourteen hours a day from London to distribute over two and half
million foodstuffs to nine million war victims. In an early form of shuttle diplomacy, he crossed the
North Sea forty times seeking to persuade the enemies in Berlin to allow food to reach the war s
victims. Long before the Armistice of 1918, he was an international hero. The Belgian city of Leuven
named a prominent square after him. In addition, the Finns added the word hoover, meaning to help,
to their language in honor of his two years of humanitarian work. After the United States entered the
war in April 1917, President Woodrow Wilson appointed Hoover head of the American Food
Administration, with headquarters in Washington, D.C. Hoover believed that, food will win the war.
He established days to encourage people to not eat certain foods in order to save them for the soldiers:
meatless Mondays, wheat less Wednesdays, and when in doubt, eat potatoes. These days helped
conserve food for the war. He succeeded in cutting consumption of food needed overseas and avoided
rationing at home (dubbed Hooverizing by government propagandists, although Hoover himself
continually and with little success gave orders that publicity should not mention him by name, but
rather should focus entirely on the Food Administration itself). After the end of the war, Hoover, a

‘the Advantages of Primary Elections Far Outweigh Their...
Primary elections are elections held previous to a Presidential election to decide upon the presidential
candidate from the two main parties. These are held in each state, each of which then goes on to
sponsor the winning candidate of their primary at the national convention, where the party s
presidential candidate is announced. This method of choosing a candidate came about due to the
McGovem/Fraser Commission of 1968 (where Mayor Daley refused McGovem the chance to run as
he was too liberal). It replaced the old system of decisions being made in smoke filled rooms where
party bosses were all powerful and made the decision.
The alternative to the primary election is the caucus, which is more similar to the original version of ...

It weeds out the weak candidates, who will lose momentum along the way and fall out of the race.
Those who cannot handle the campaign for the primary election, would not be cut out for presidency.
A last advantage to the primary elections is that it gives a chance to candidates that would not
otherwise be in the running for presidential candidacy. What may be an unconventional
democrat/liberal who is unpopular within the party may prove a hit with the electorate and gain a lot
of votes. The party will get the candidate who is most electable out of the options, even if this is not
necessarily someone entirely in line with party ideology. Jimmy Carter, for example, was not widely
known until the 1976 primaries when his distance from DC politics played to his advantage, as it
meant that he was also distanced from the recent Watergate Scandal.
This could also be seen as a disadvantage to the primary election, as it prevents the parties from
expressing their wishes towards who the candidate should be, and thus an unworthy candidate may be
chosen. Primaries could lead to someone with little experience of governance, or someone who is not
representing the party ideal being put forward as candidate and the state parties could have no
influence over this.
Another disadvantage to the primary election is the pure monetary cost of the campaign. Candidates

The Psychological Impact Of Bullying
In order to solve a problem in a school or elsewhere you need a plan, additionally, you need to find out
the cause or causes of the problem before constructing your plan and this is where research comes in.
Research conducted to solve issues or problems in schools or educational systems are termed Action
Research. After sitting and discussing issues and problems in our education system we decided to
tackle the issue of the psychological impact of bullying. The purpose of our action research was to
attempt to improve students academic performance by trying to lessen or eliminate the occurrences of

We decided to use both questionnaires and interviews. The questionnaires were constructed at Form
Four vocabulary level and lower to ensure that the respondents would be able to completely
understand them. Also, we used the research questions to guide the construction of the questionnaires.
Before distributing the data collection tools we spoke to the staff to determine which class bullying
cases were reported most often they said Form Four. We then did a survey in the form to find out who
has been bullied before to do stratified sampling. This was done this way because it would not have
been efficient and effective to give questionnaires to students who are not being bullied. To triangulate
the information that we were about to collect we decided to use interviews with the questionnaires.
This was to ensure that the information that was collected from the questionnaires were similar to
what was collected in the interview. A sample of the students who completed the questionnaires were
later interviewed. I would say that this part of the research mentioned is the most important as if it is
not done correctly the research can go in directions other than desired. If the research has no direction
there would not be an effective action plan to help solve the problems or resolve the issue. Also, this is
the stage of the research where data is

Advancing the Individual s Knowledge of the Holocaust Essay
By comparing, analyzing and questioning the validity of Maus I and II, Night, Night and Fog,
nonfictional historical accounts and a poem, called Already Embraced by the Arm of Heavenly Solace,

The holocaust can be explained as the historical event in which the Nazi s, who came to power in

Jews. This came about because of the German belief that they were racially superior and the Jews

The conclusions of the various sources, brought on by the analysis of the issues above and by
comparing these sources to each other, determined that overall these sources have a high degree in
serving to further man s understanding of the holocaust.
By categorizing the two movies, Night and Fog and Schindler s List, together we are able to better
analyze and contrast the two similar yet different sources. First off, both these sources can be deemed
accountable because they use more than one source. The documentary, Night and Fog, uses two
different survivors of the holocaust as well as various other sources. Schindler s List also relied on
more than one person s account of the situation to write the movie s script. This is unlike the sources
such as Return to Auschwitz, written by the first hand account of Kitty Hart , and Night, written by
Elie Wiesel who also had first hand experiences , that depend on one person s account or report of the
situation to tell the story. However, the written work isn t used for entertainment purposes, like
Schindler s List is, and therefore is less likely to be changed to draw attention or gain financially.

How Organizational Culture Affects The Success And Failure...
Customers will never love a company until the employees love it first by Simon Sinek, who is an
author best known for popularizing the concept of the golden circle described by TED as a simple but
powerful model for inspirational leadership all starting with a golden circle (Afshar, 2013). Sinek has
brought an overview of an essential factor to all organization, which is organizational culture. It is the
key to make a success of an organization, as well as the reflection of the company s manager
leadership. In this essay, the definition of organizational culture, how organizational culture can
influence both the success and failure of an organization and what managers can do to create an
encouraging and effective culture at workplace will be discussed.
Culture is defined as all of humans perception, knowledge, opinions, worth and sensation studied
through joining in any cultural system (Nanda Warms, 2011). In other word, human is the represent of
culture (O Donnell Boyle,2008, pp.4 14). The dimension of culture is the centre in all aspects of
organizational life, especially in business (Nanda Warms, 2011). For example, the way employer of a
company act, think or feel is controlled by their naturally cultural belief (REF). Values of an
organisation can be changed effectively by organisational culture (REF).
Organizational culture is explained as the influences from shared values, majors, traditions, and
reaction on organizational members activities that

Music Programs In High Schools Essay
Music plays an important role in a student s academic success. Being a part of a music organization
gives students a place to belong and a place where they can express themselves. It gives students the
drive to do well in school, helps build social skills through teamwork, and improves their focus level.
In every school, there are students who do not like their core subject classes. I have several in my
choir program and the only reason they get out of bed to come to school in the morning is so they can
be in choir. Harris Interactive did a study in 2006 over graduation rates and they found that high
schools with a music program had a graduation rate of 90% or greater. The national average
graduation rate of those high schools that do not have a music program is 73% (Zuckerman 3). I
believe the schools that have music programs have a higher graduation rate because students have a
motivation to pass. As with other extracurricular activities, choir students have to pass their classes in
order to sing or participate. I pay very close attention to my students grades as they influence whether
or not they can participate in activities such as UIL Concert and Sight Reading. While a student may
not like math, they are willing to work hard to get their grades up so they can participate in UIL or go

Youth Culture and Social Change Youth Culture and Social Change Introduction Culture can be defined as the shared values, customs, beliefs, behaviours and knowledge of a particular group or society.[1] Similarly, youth culture refers to the shared values, etc. of individuals in their teenage and young adult years. During the last century, the world around us has changed greatly, and as a result of this, so too has youth culture changed. In this investigation, the ways in which social change has influenced youth culture from the 1960 s to today will be explored and how changes in factors such as the media and technology, male/female roles in relationships, attitudes towards parents and elders and values have played a part in shaping this. Methodology While the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All we had the power to do was to accept or decline his offer. she said. Sex before marriage was also seen as socially unacceptable with many teenagers who became pregnant being thrown out of the family home by parents.[10] This was a result of contraceptives not being as easier acquired. The pill was not generally available and condoms were only available from chemists and barbers and at three shillings a pack. Too expensive us teens to buy. says Davis. Today, teenagers and young adults are not only taught by their parents but also through the media about a relationship. This has brought about a generation where the male and female sex can be seen to be more equal in their roles in relationships. For example, it is becoming more and more common for a girl to ask a guy to go out to catch a movie, hit a club, or just hang out. However, according to Tresize, this change has also caused some confusion to males in relationships. We now get mixed messages from partners in relationships. There are some girls who want the guy in a relationship to be either strong or vulnerable, or take charge or not to dominate. It s confusing! Following the sexual revolution in the late 60 s, sexual behavior in relationships has also been normalised by the media. Women need to break through barriers to be on the path to success. Women are not men and need not compete with men to show her vitality. Women bleeds and is not a choice, this does not mean men need to bleed. Women require challenging patriarchy rather than each other. Akhila had a barrier in her life of her fears to do things for herself. Fear can give no power, but facing truth sets a being free. Her emotions are not to be squished but nurtured well. Wearing masks one after another to please the society only weakens the natural energy of a female. We need not cover up our insecurity from the world. Women should stop dying from things that happened in past. It is ok to be imperfect, which is human. Women do not require finding their identity in the comparison with men. When a woman stands up to voice for herself, she raises up for all the women globally. Anita Nair s Ladies Coupe has narratives by six women characters who by chance meet in a train ladies coupe that Akhilandeswari alias Akhila boards in. all the women speak of the repressive forces of a patriarchal India. • 6. The Epistemology of Hegel s Introduction to the... The Epistemology of Hegel s Introduction to the Phenomenology of Spirit In his Phenomenology of Spirit, G.W.F. Hegel lays out a process by which one may come to know absolute truth. This process shows a gradual evolution from a state of natural consciousness (56) (1) to one of complete self consciousness which leads to an understanding of the nature of absolute knowledge itself (66). By understanding the relation between consciousness and truth, one may come to know the true nature of our existence. Hegel proposes to answer these questions in one bold stroke; he relates them in such a way as to make an infinitely complex and indiscernible universe a unitary whole. This process from a natural state to a kind of transcendence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is another implicit falsity in this way of thinking, however. The intellect as instrument implies that the intellect is an entity distinct from ourselves (54). It also assumes that the absolute stands fixed on one side while the intellect stands off by itself on the other (54), which leads to a major flaw in this train of thought. By completely separating the intellect and the absolute, this method separates the knowledge that the intellect may possess from the absolute as well, thus denying that which the intellect knows of any truth. To escape from this conundrum, one must assume that knowledge and consciousness are related in some way. Another less palatable option might be the acceptance of different kinds of truths, but Hegel will have none of that. He insists that the absolute alone is true, truth nothing if not absolute (55). Unfortunately, traditional science also makes this instrumental assumption, restricting consciousness from the absolute. But Hegel insists that science should not be discarded. One could throw out science because it presumes this separation, but instead one should try to refit science to this purpose (56). Thus, one must establish a new method of determining the truth. Grade inflation, the belief that students are receiving grades that they haven t worked for and therefore don t deserve. But what s so wrong about grade inflation? When learning about this subject we also open the doors to learning about the multitude of other problems plaguing our educational system that could use our attention much more than grade inflation does. Through grade inflation we re able to understand problems often forgotten about and looked over. When researching into the topic of grade inflation one begins to see a multitude of problems arise that have been previously ignored and have been left to continue wreaking havoc on the educational system. Mark Oppenheimer shares a similar points of view in his article where he discussed his opinion, that grade inflation is one of the much lesser issues and that we need to be focusing on other things.(other things, just quote his article). His ideas are countered by the ideas of people such as Rojstaczer who argue that grade inflation is becoming an out of control issue that needs to be fixed (add in quotes from the book and article) In the past colleges like Princeton and Wellesley have tried to adopt policies to help curb grade inflation. • 13. Anne Boleyn s The First Wife Of Henry Viii Essay Anne Boleyn is a figure that continues to fascinate us centuries after she met her end on the scaffold. The story goes that King Henry struggles with his conscience when it becomes clear that his wife Catherine will not give him a male heir. He meets Anne and falls in love, and as a consequence breaks with Rome and the Holy Roman Catholic Church to marry her. When she too fails to produce the elusive son he desires he has her executed. The second wife of Henry VIII, Anne s is a biography that many know, and yet this juxtaposes with the reality that her story is often oversimplified by the salacious details of her life. In the context of the early English reformation, Anne was a player to the colossal events of this period and for this, her role in them deserves to be more closely examined. Anne is a fundamental part of the reformation to the extent that she allowed the door on it to be cracked open through key events such as the divorce from Catherine of Aragon, the King s Great Matter , the Break with Rome, and the Royal Supremacy to take place. The idea of divorcing his first wife was not a relatively new one for King Henry. He had been married to Catherine of Aragon for almost two decades by the late 1520s. If each member maintains its identity, then the common identity, the status, and the ease of interaction will be threatened. M O members have not only strong reasons to maintain their identity and autonomy, but also great capacity to do so, since many M O members have more resources and more status than their own M O. According to Ahrne Brunsson, it is important for an M O to attract members with the highest status. If the purpose is to maintain or increase the status of the members, the M O must be able to include and retain the most important members because its legitimacy is dependent on the success to recruit potential affiliates. There simply wasn t anything better than a beautiful woman, a heap of gold, and the power to control people. If you wanted a family, you had to have a wife to cook, clean, birth and rear your offspring. Despite the previous aspects of the old way of life being represented in these myths, they also demonstrate how sometimes carrying out the plan for a perfect family leaves you utterly alone. • 30. ‘the Advantages of Primary Elections Far Outweigh Their... Primary elections are elections held previous to a Presidential election to decide upon the presidential candidate from the two main parties. These are held in each state, each of which then goes on to sponsor the winning candidate of their primary at the national convention, where the party s presidential candidate is announced. This method of choosing a candidate came about due to the McGovem/Fraser Commission of 1968 (where Mayor Daley refused McGovem the chance to run as he was too liberal). It replaced the old system of decisions being made in smoke filled rooms where party bosses were all powerful and made the decision. The alternative to the primary election is the caucus, which is more similar to the original version of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It weeds out the weak candidates, who will lose momentum along the way and fall out of the race. Those who cannot handle the campaign for the primary election, would not be cut out for presidency. A last advantage to the primary elections is that it gives a chance to candidates that would not otherwise be in the running for presidential candidacy. What may be an unconventional democrat/liberal who is unpopular within the party may prove a hit with the electorate and gain a lot of votes. The party will get the candidate who is most electable out of the options, even if this is not necessarily someone entirely in line with party ideology. Jimmy Carter, for example, was not widely known until the 1976 primaries when his distance from DC politics played to his advantage, as it meant that he was also distanced from the recent Watergate Scandal. This could also be seen as a disadvantage to the primary election, as it prevents the parties from expressing their wishes towards who the candidate should be, and thus an unworthy candidate may be chosen. Primaries could lead to someone with little experience of governance, or someone who is not representing the party ideal being put forward as candidate and the state parties could have no influence over this. Another disadvantage to the primary election is the pure monetary cost of the campaign. Candidates ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. The Psychological Impact Of Bullying In order to solve a problem in a school or elsewhere you need a plan, additionally, you need to find out the cause or causes of the problem before constructing your plan and this is where research comes in. Research conducted to solve issues or problems in schools or educational systems are termed Action Research. After sitting and discussing issues and problems in our education system we decided to tackle the issue of the psychological impact of bullying. The purpose of our action research was to attempt to improve students academic performance by trying to lessen or eliminate the occurrences of bullying at J.P Eustace Secondary School. The J.P Eustace Secondary School is labelled by the Vincentian public as being an unruly school ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We decided to use both questionnaires and interviews. The questionnaires were constructed at Form Four vocabulary level and lower to ensure that the respondents would be able to completely understand them. Also, we used the research questions to guide the construction of the questionnaires. Before distributing the data collection tools we spoke to the staff to determine which class bullying cases were reported most often they said Form Four. We then did a survey in the form to find out who has been bullied before to do stratified sampling. This was done this way because it would not have been efficient and effective to give questionnaires to students who are not being bullied. To triangulate the information that we were about to collect we decided to use interviews with the questionnaires. This was to ensure that the information that was collected from the questionnaires were similar to what was collected in the interview. A sample of the students who completed the questionnaires were later interviewed. I would say that this part of the research mentioned is the most important as if it is not done correctly the research can go in directions other than desired. If the research has no direction there would not be an effective action plan to help solve the problems or resolve the issue. Also, this is the stage of the research where data is ... • 32. Advancing the Individual s Knowledge of the Holocaust Essay By comparing, analyzing and questioning the validity of Maus I and II, Night, Night and Fog, nonfictional historical accounts and a poem, called Already Embraced by the Arm of Heavenly Solace, found in Europe in the Contemporary World, Schindler s List and the Return to Auschwitz we may determine to what degree these sources serve to advance humanity s understanding of the holocaust. The holocaust can be explained as the historical event in which the Nazi s, who came to power in Germany in January 1933, and its collaborators murdered and persecuted approximately six million Jews. This came about because of the German belief that they were racially superior and the Jews were an alien threat to the German state. For humanity to advance in ... The conclusions of the various sources, brought on by the analysis of the issues above and by comparing these sources to each other, determined that overall these sources have a high degree in serving to further man s understanding of the holocaust. By categorizing the two movies, Night and Fog and Schindler s List, together we are able to better analyze and contrast the two similar yet different sources. First off, both these sources can be deemed accountable because they use more than one source. The documentary, Night and Fog, uses two different survivors of the holocaust as well as various other sources. Schindler s List also relied on more than one person s account of the situation to write the movie s script. This is unlike the sources such as Return to Auschwitz, written by the first hand account of Kitty Hart , and Night, written by Elie Wiesel who also had first hand experiences , that depend on one person s account or report of the situation to tell the story. However, the written work isn t used for entertainment purposes, like Schindler s List is, and therefore is less likely to be changed to draw attention or gain financially. Customers will never love a company until the employees love it first by Simon Sinek, who is an author best known for popularizing the concept of the golden circle described by TED as a simple but powerful model for inspirational leadership all starting with a golden circle (Afshar, 2013). Sinek has brought an overview of an essential factor to all organization, which is organizational culture. It is the key to make a success of an organization, as well as the reflection of the company s manager leadership. In this essay, the definition of organizational culture, how organizational culture can influence both the success and failure of an organization and what managers can do to create an encouraging and effective culture at workplace will be discussed. • 34. Music Programs In High Schools Essay Music plays an important role in a student s academic success. Being a part of a music organization gives students a place to belong and a place where they can express themselves. It gives students the drive to do well in school, helps build social skills through teamwork, and improves their focus level. In every school, there are students who do not like their core subject classes. I have several in my choir program and the only reason they get out of bed to come to school in the morning is so they can be in choir. Harris Interactive did a study in 2006 over graduation rates and they found that high schools with a music program had a graduation rate of 90% or greater. The national average graduation rate of those high schools that do not have a music program is 73% (Zuckerman 3). I believe the schools that have music programs have a higher graduation rate because students have a motivation to pass. As with other extracurricular activities, choir students have to pass their classes in order to sing or participate. I pay very close attention to my students grades as they influence whether or not they can participate in activities such as UIL Concert and Sight Reading. While a student may not like math, they are willing to work hard to get their grades up so they can participate in UIL or go on a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mr. Smith s ideals that professional sports would be a fairer, more entertaining version of itself if performance enhancing drugs were legal, is an incredibly irresponsible and impudent declaration. Performance enhancing drugs allow for several advantages for athletes they assist in the rapid development of muscle mass and strength, they enhance focus and timing and most importantly to a professional athlete some performance enhancing drugs allow for quicker recovery time from injuries. Athletes are vulnerable; one injury could end the career that they have worked their entire lives for, and so the ability to recover at a much faster rate than a non doping athlete is an advantage unto itself.
