Teraphim Themes
Teraphim
The gods and goddesses Dinahs mothers believe in are in the forms of teraphim, statutes that resemble
the human shape. Jacob, Dinahs father, believes in the One God, as he learned from his his father and
grandfather, and his religion (Judaism) and practices with animal sacrifice and ceremony. Jacobs
religion does not fit his wives, who have practice their rituals for their gods and goddesses under the
moon. They secretly worship their own gods, and take care not to offend Jacob with their practice,
keeping it out of sight, knowing that he cannot approve his wife s religion.

In Dinah s world, women were not attended to by doctors while giving birth, and were lucky to have a
midwife. In each birthing scene, as the women prepare to push, they stand upon the bricks for support
and positioning, symbolizing the gathering of their courage as they prepare to face death once again.
Themes:
Memory/story telling
Dinah tells her story because of her fear that her tragedy will not live on, and will mean nothing.
Dinahs story, in the Bible, is a footnote in the Bible, while the stories of her mother s, Rebecca,
Rachel, and Leah live on, although the Bible misrepresents the powerful women in Dinahs life. She
holds on to her memories, as an anchor so that when faced with a fresh start and a new life, she is
afraid of moving on, as Dinah is still living in her tragic past. Childbirth/midwifery
Four major characters in The Red Tent are midwives, Inna, Rachel, Dinah, and Meryt, and so
childbearing is focused on as a woman s unavoidable battle with life and death. As a midwife Dinah
loses many children and mothers. In the graphic scenes of women in labor, as they tear and bleed in
the process of giving life, childbirth is seen as a woman s right of passage, and as a sacred

Similarities Between Middle Colonies And New England Colonies
In the 16th century, Europeans attempted to inhabit America, and their efforts sparked numerous
occurrences within the various areas they were colonizing. These regions of English establishment are
divided into three groups, based on how drastically varied they are from one another. Although, all
three of the areas also share a few common similarities. The establishments were referred to as the
New England Colonies, Middle Colonies, and Southern Colonies. As mentioned above, all of these
regions have numerous similarities and differences concerning their formation and history. There are
many elements to consider when discussing the establishment of the New England Colonies. For one,
a number of English Puritans, in an organization called the Massachusetts Bay Company, decided to
migrate to America, in hopes of a more favorable financial environment. In 1629, after much
deliberation and an offer to pay out the original group of prospective settlers, only some of the
Puritans agreed to travel to America, with an aspiration to concoct a Puritan sanctuary. A year later,
they journeyed to New England with a charter from Charles I and with John Winthrop as their
governor. The New England Puritans continued to be bound to their religious roots, but there were a
few variations; the long established worshipping practices that England maintained were not favored,
and the notion of predestination spread. Over time, the Massachusetts Bay Company prospered, and it
rapidly grew in size. Another important historical figure was named Anne Hutchinson, and she
disputed matters regarding religion and women s rights. Additionally, the Native Americans and the
English settlers lived harmoniously and they assisted one another. Until, numerous wars occurred
causing a rift between the two cultures. Some of these disturbances were called the Pequot War and
King Phillip s War.
Furthermore, the ownership of the Middle Colonies caused much commotion between the Dutch and
English. Initially, the Dutch were in possession of the colonies, but the English disliked them for
creating a divide between all of the colonies and for allowing smugglers to bypass certain laws. An
English fleet seized control of New Amsterdam, and James

Daedalus And Icarus Analysis
The two myths Phaethon, and Daedalus and Icarus both depict 2 illogical, ambitious, and power
hungry boys. In Daedalus and Icarus, and in Phaethon, Phaethon and Icarus both take a prideful
neglection of the warnings from those who are older and wiser. Also, in both myths imagery is
beautifully demonstrated and drawn out for the reader. Through the use of characterization and
imagery, both unsophisticated protagonists Phaethon and Icarus demonstrate a shared theme, that
being prideful with a disregard of warnings from those who are judicious and older can lead to
disastrous consequences.
To begin with, both myths depict characterization. The two arrogant protagonists do not think twice
before anything. In Phaethon, Epaphus talks about visiting Zeus and receiving presents from Zeus.
Phaethon then gets jealous and proceeds to lie. Oh yes. He taught me to handle the horses. Tall as this
mountain... they breathe fire (49). Because of his actions Phaethon puts himself in a pickle. He easily
could have let Epaphus belittle him, but he does not. Later on because of his actions, the whole world
has to pay, the planet is destroyed and their are natural disasters because of Phaethon. This relates to
the theme because he was being prideful and didn t care about anyone else beside him. Similarly in
Daedalus and Icarus, Icarus is also boastful and doesn t care about the near future. Icarus is warned his
wings will melt off if he goes too close too the sun. But just like Phaethon he lets pride take him over .
I m the first boy ever to fly! Im making history! I shall be famous! thought Icarus (61). Though Icarus
is reminded several times to not fly too high but to stay near Daedalus the elder he doesn t care to
listen; which ended with a consequence death. His actions describe the type of person Icarus is,
narcissistic and narrow minded. All Icarus wants to do is to show the birds he is supreme . It presents
that listening to your elders can be life or death, in this case, death. These two myths both represent
characterization. The shared theme is easily recognizable as they are both full of pride.
Secondly, the two myths heavily use imagery. Imagery plays a key role throughout the two myths,
whether it s describing the

The Era Of General Pervez Musharraf s Political Era
General Pervez Musharraf Political Era:
Pervez Musharraf imposed the third martial law on 12th October 1999 by ruling out the democracy.
He ruled almost eight years which are very important in the history of Pakistan. His government
started in October 1999 and ended in August 2008. The era of Pervez Musharraf is referred as the
golden eight years. It is, probably the longest single statement of feats of developments, repairs and
enhancements in one of the most difficult countries to govern as described in Times Magazine.
Moreover, the economic indicators and growth rate were best in the time of Musharraf. Hence, these
are the reasons of selecting General Pervez Musharraf s era.

rate of unemployment and inflation was very high. In simple words the system and state of Pakistan

The macroeconomics objectives were achieved in the political period of Musharraf. As we know that

An Almost Love Lost In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
An Almost Love Lost
Love lost is one of the most excruciating painful life altering wounds that any one person can suffer
from. Whether it is a partner, an animal, a friend, or family members each one of these can damage a
person when they lose what they deemed to be a requited loving feeling, or an attempt at one. In Mary
Shelley s Frankenstein, the creature starts to read what was known as one of the first romantic novel of
the 18th century, The sorrows of Young Werther among other novels like: Volney s Ruins of Empires,
John Milton s Paradise Lost, and Plutarch s Lives of the Nobel Greeks and Romans, or Parallel Lives.
This novel influenced the creature in a way that was different from the other texts that predominantly
ruled his mind frame; it was a novel that had human feelings due to its semi autobiographical nature. It

This part of his education was not intentional but it made way for him to allow his emotions to get the
better of him. He was watching a family being happy and then he took that away from them in the
end, and he also took away what little family Victor had left in order to make him feel how the
creature felt when he abandoned him. This is what he learned in the end, that there is only destruction
in love, nothing more and nothing less. Without love there is loneliness and despair, but there is no
death, with love you go through the tortuous process of possibly forever losing this love which would
kill you with an overwhelming sense of loss. The creature s education was lost on this novel and led to
a subconscious need for revenge because of what he did not receive during his adolescence. This led
to the destruction of not only Victors life but his own in the way of his

Reflective Essay On Kids Clinical Rotation
This week I started my GI for Kids clinical rotation. I did mostly shadowing on the first couple of
days. While shadowing, I learned Wendy s roles. She sees about average 8 12 patients a day. Her
typical day begins with reviewing her patients chart to monitor their health status, and then she goes to
see them personally and obtain their progress. Lastly, she consults with doctors (the GI doctor who she
works for and patients doctor) regarding the appropriate care that those patients need and order them. I
recognized that documentation takes up a huge part of her time. I am familiar with the hospital setting
since I have been working as a RN for the past three years in a hospital. But the awareness of the
different roles I am playing is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And their care is from a more holistic approach. For instance, a patient with necrotic pancreatitis has
been hospitalized for the past three weeks. The mother of the patient has stayed at the beside since the
admission. The mother is a appropriated caregiver and really concerns for her child. Despite the
chronic disease course of the necrotic pancreatitis, Wendy discussed with the mother regarding what
kinds of processes need to be taken place before discharge, such as home health. She believes this will
help to alleviate some stress off from the mother. Wendy did not specify when the patient would be
able to go home, but rather explained what need to be accomplished prior to discharge. I think this is a
appropriate action since it gives the mother an idea of what to expect in ahead. So far, the GI disorders
that I have encountered in this clinical rotation are so different than the ones I saw during my primary
care clinical rotations. Those patients are more complex and acutely ill. I was unfamiliar with many of
these disorders (e.g superior mesenteric artery syndrome) and had to look them up. Beside the various
GI disorders, understand and able to utilize different diagnostic tools and labs to help to make GI
diagnosis is another thing that I hope to accomplish during my clinical time with Wendy. I am looking
forward to next week s clinical

Balzac And The Little Chinese Seamstress Summary
The novel, Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress, by Dai SiJie is about two boys, the narrator and
his friend Luo. Along with other with other youths of China, they were both sent down to the country
side during the Cultural Revolution of China to be re educated. At the time anyone that had high
school education were considered intellectuals and were considered as a threat to the cultural
movement. However, the narrator or Luo only had middle school education and were considered
intellectuals. One big reason why they were sent down was because their parents were considered
intellectuals and they were paying the price for it. During their time in the country side, Luo falls in
love with a seamstress and throughout the novel she is referred ... Show more content on

Since love was a very foreign idea to them, it influenced them to become more interested in western
book, which did not include any propaganda. When the narrator reads Jean Christophe a book by
Romain Rolland, he talks about the main character fondly Without him I would never have understood
the splendor of taking free and independent action as an individual. Up until this stolen encounter with
Romain Rolland s hero, my poor educated and re educated brains had been incapable of gasping the
notion of one man standing up against the whole world (110). This is the main reason why Mao didn t
want people reading any kind of literature that was not connected to the party or scientific. Books such
as the one the narrator read inspired people which can motivate then to rise up against his dictatorship
and lead to his loss of power. When talking about the main character from the Balzac Ursule Mirouet
novel, the narrater sates I longed to be like her: to be able, while I lay asleep on my bed, to see what
my mother was doing in our apartment five hundred kilometers away, to watch my parents having
supper, to observe their gestures...better still, like Ursele, I would visit, in my dreams, places I had
never set eyes on before... (58 59). From this passage it can be seen how disillusioned the youth of
China were due to the re education process. Another key reason why Luo and the narrator were so
interested in the books was because they could relate to the stories. They were able to picture it
happening to themselves which in a way gave them an escape from their reality and the fact that they
might never be able to move

Color In The Great Gatsby
The Colors of Life The helpful acronym ROY G. BIV is used to aid in the remembering the order that
the colors appear in the rainbow. Colors are everywhere: the flowers that grow along the sidewalk, the
shirts that we wear, the cars on the road, and the environment around us. Colors even have the ability
to relay information to us, for example, whether it will rain or not based on the color of the sky and
clouds, no to touch a snake if certain colors touch, or even is someone is angry based on the color of
their face. Colors are a main focus point in The Great Gatsby, written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, and are
used to express emotions and events of specific characters. A small but very important color in The

How Tv Makes You Smarter

of television and it is hard to miss a reality show which on almost any channel. If they were to pause
on one of these shows they might not know it but they would bettering themselves on a personal level.
Based on the ideas of Steven Johnson the average person could learn a thing or two from reality TV. In

The arena of advertising is also another common target for the show. In an episode mimicking the
Super bowl it becomes clear that companies, especially the beer companies capitalize on the event
(Rushkoff 249). Rushkoff believes that as The Simpsons sends out messages showing how people can
be manipulated that they will become more aware that; they will be able to watch something or see an
advertisement and really look at it critically questioning its intentions and the quality of the
information. The Simpsons is a great example of how some Television shows are diverting from the
typical path of hypnotizing their viewers and are instead embracing dialogue that helps society
become more cynical of television today. Quoting from his article Johnson says, What I am arguing
for is a change in the criteria we use to determine what really cognitive junk food is and what is
genuinely nourishing. In a statement made by Graff in Hidden Intellectualism ; What doesn t occur to
us, though, is that schools and colleges might be at fault for missing the opportunity to tap into such
street smarts and channel them into good academic work. Nor do we consider one of the major
reasons why school and colleges overlook the intellectual potential of street smarts with anti
intellectual concerns. I think that Johnson would completely agree with Graff s statement and would
back it up with research of his own. He would agree that society

My Strengths And Challenges In My Life
Every individual will at some point in their life face obstacles that can hinder their growth; however, it
is up to each individual to decide whether these obstacles will stop them entirely or carve them into a
stronger, more perseverant being. I have faced various obstacles in my life, but I believe that my
obstacles specifically those related to my shoulder health have developed me into the resilient man I
am today. To explain, three days into my freshman year, I tore my labrum in my right shoulder at
football practice. Although I had surgery to repair it, I knew my chances of being a three sport athlete
were diminished. I was forced to stop playing football and wrestling, but I was lucky enough to be
cleared to play baseball. High school baseball was my dream ever since I was a child, so I knew what
it meant to the younger kids in my community. Now, it was my time to show them who I was, and I
refused to let that be taken from me. For this reason, I began devoting much of my time to baseball.
My first season went well, but my team did not do as well, so I couldn t wait for summer baseball.
Unfortunately, while playing in the summer, I began to feel intense shoulder pain. Initially, I tried to
hide my pain because I was scared that baseball would be taken from me. Eventually, though, I couldn
t hide my pain and I dislocated my left shoulder several times in a single game. I faced a similar
obstacle a year prior, and I decided once again to have surgery to repair my

The Success of the New Deal in Solving the Problems Caused by the Great Depression
Introduction In the late 1920 s and early 1930 s the whole of America was in a deep depression and
was in desperate need of help. When Franklin D Roosevelt was elected president of USA he came up
with the plan of the new deal this was a planned guideline to regenerate money and the high standards
of living the Americans once had not so long ago. He introduced 5 major organisations to restructure
the American way of life they were now facing; these were the F.E.R.A, C.C.C, A.A.A, T.V.A and the

flexibility and initiative of a private enterprise. On May 18, 1933, Congress passed the TVA act. Right

resource management. Each issue TVA faced whether it was power production, navigation, flood

The N.R.A was an act called for industrial self regulation and declared that codes of fair competition
for the protection of consumers, competitors, and employers were to be drafted for the various
industries of the country and were to be subject to public hearings. The administration was
empowered to make voluntary agreements dealing with hours of work, rates of pay, and the fixing of

The AAA paid farmers not to grow crops and not to produce dairy produce such as milk and butter. It
also paid them not to raise pigs and lambs. The money to pay the farmers for cutting back production
of about 30% was raised by a tax on companies that bought the farm products and processed them into
food and clothing. The AAA also became involved in trying to help farmers destroyed by the creation
of the dust bowl in 1934.

Essay on Harley Davidson International Management
I. Summary of the case study Harley Davidson rockers idol
So, this case study is about Harley Davidson, a brand of motorcycles and more precisely about its
development since his foundation in 1903 by 21 year old William S. Harley and 20 year old Arthur
Davidson.
So, in 2003, it was the celebration of the 100th birthday of the Harley Davidson. And, in order to
commemorate it, fans of this famous brand rode until Milwaukee to see the parade of 10 000 Harley
Davidson motorcycles. Through this celebration, we can see how recognized this brand is for the
owners, or should I say fans. Indeed, this case also shows how the strategy and the marketing of

dream and the possibility to be a part of the myth. The dream is about to escape the bored life riding a
Harley Davidson which is relaxing.
But, the brand stretching strategy of Harley Davidson didn t have the expected effects. Indeed,
products such as wine and cosmetics (with a partnership with L Oréal) have not a high volume of
sales. However, products such as leisurewear and fashion ranges feel better.
So, the main issue of this case study is to know why Harley Davidson has chosen different strategies

General Description of Edwards SAPIEN XT Transcatheter Heart
Valve.
Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), or Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), is a
relatively new surgical procedure to combat aortic stenosis. When the aortic valve gets occluded from
a congenital defect, or damage from
calcium or scarring ,1 blood cannot flow through the valve efficiently. This leads to decreased
availability of oxygenated blood to peripheral tissues, and can be harmful or even fatal to patients.
When the malformations of the valve reach a critical point in which the patient s health will be
significantly affected by the lack of proper blood flow,
TAVR is an effective choice to combat stenosis. According to a study done by Samir
Kapadia, MD, TF TAVR (trans femoral transcatheter aortic valve replacement) exhibits a 95.7 percent
success rate. Thirty day mortality is limited to 0.4 percent, and stroke rate exhibited a 1.6 percent
incidence rate. Follow ups after one year showed a mortality rate and stroke rate of 17.5 percent and
3.5 percent, respectively.2 This data implies that while TAVR is effective, the procedure still has room
to improve. The Edwards SAPIEN
XT is a new artificial valve that aims to

dermis the middle layer and the subcutaneous which is the third and inner most layer. Each of these
three layers preform very different jobs in keeping you healthy. The epidermis is the outer most layer
of skin and is relatively waterproof (when undamaged), prevents most bacteria and foreign substance
from entering and also protects the internal organs. The palms of the hand and soles of the feet have a

A full thickness graft requires all three layers in order to replace damaged tissue, the donor site for
these may be the chest wall, back and the abdominal wall, these are only used on a third degree burns.
All skin grafts come with great risk. Those risk include; infection, loss of the grafted skin, reduce or
loss of sensation, increased sensitivity, scarring, uneven ski surface or skin discoloration. Another
problem with skin grafting is that they if you have a patient that has had most of their body burnt they
do not have enough skin to graft and replace the damaged skin. In order to fix this problem they had to
come up with another approach to help these people. So studies began around the early 1970 s and
into the 1980s trying to develop a way to make and produce artificial skin called Integra Dermal
Regeneration Template or Integra DRT. Every similar artificial skin is produced or researched and

The Moriori Research Paper
There were two groups who are the descendents of the Polynesians who are the Maori and the Moriori
who came into conflict with one another upon meeting eachother for the first time. The Moriori people
were living on the Chatham Islands which are 500 miles east of New Zealand. They were for centuries
living peacefully and independently until it all came to a brutal end for them in December 1835. Five
hundred Maori people armed wielding guns, axes, clubs along with another 400 that arrived through
ship invaded and killed off the Moriori people and announced that they would be their slaves and that
if anyone were to object them they would be killed; no questions asked. The Moriori could have
fought back in time and still defeated the Maori but

Home Box Office (HBO) is the nation s most widely distributed multi channel premium pay television
service which consists of recently released uncut and uncensored theatrical motion pictures. Based
upon the brief introduction of various segments in the organization above it can be concluded that the
competitive advantage of Time Warner is founded on differentiation. Porter suggested that a firm
could only apply one of the three generic strategies or the company could be stuck in the middle and
will not achieve a competitive advantage. However, he also argued that firms could only succeed at
multiple strategies by creating separate business units for each strategy. In Time Warner case
differentiation strategy and differentiation focus strategy are both applied in achieve its competitive

Importance Of Visit To A Shinto Church
I decided to write about my visit to a Shinto Church as my cultural experience. The church I visited is
called Izumo Taisha Mission of Hawaii. I had actually been to this church many times since I was a
child to participate in Japanese cultural events, but I have little knowledge of what the Shinto religion
actually practices. This is also the shrine where my family goes for our New Year s blessing ritual.
Since turning to Christianity, I still liked to attend the church s events and New Year s ritual, but other
than that, I just didn t have the desire to learn more about Shinto. Based on my fieldwork into the
appearance, clothing, and rituals of Shinto, I theorize that Shinto is religion to focuses highly on
keeping one s body and soul pure and in good fortune through worship to multiple God s.
When I visited the church, I had scheduled the meet the Bishop, Daiya Amano. He has been a friend
of my family for a long time, and he was happy to share the Shinto culture despite knowing I had
already chosen my belief. Shinto is one of the two primary religions of Japan, and the church is a good
place for tourist and local Japanese to pay their respects to. Shinto is a religion of polytheism and
animism, and thus, believes in God s of animate and inanimate objects. Shinto believes that every
aspect of life has a God in charge. There s a God of nature, weather, business, knowledge, war,
fishing, etc. Shinto practices a worship to these God s so that they may bring good fortune and

Dna Profiling And The Criminal Justice System
In November of 1983, 15 year old Lynda Mann was found raped and murdered on a deserted road, and
although police were able to obtain a semen sample from her murderer the case remained unsolved. In
1986 the killer struck again murdering 15 year old Dawn Ashworth, once again leaving behind semen,
but this time the police were able to use DNA profiling to match the semen to a suspect. Colin
Pitchfork became the first person to be caught based on mass DNA screening, and the first to be
convicted based on DNA profiling. The use of Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) in the criminal justice
system has greatly tipped the scales in favor of law enforcement, and changed the world that we live
in. Court cases that in the past relied heavily on eye witness testimony and circumstantial evidence
now have science to back them up. DNA analysis has revolutionized the criminal justice system, and
even though there are some flaws, the use of DNA evidence should continue to be used by law
enforcement. While DNA profiling is still considered to be fairly new , the analysis of the human
genetic variation began more than a century ago with the discovery of the human ABO blood group.
Karl Landsteiner realized that these variations in humans could be used to solve crimes. ABO could be
used to exclude suspects, but police needed something that could definitively point the finger at a
suspect. In 1984, Alec Jeffreys discovered hypervariable loci, also known as minisatellites. He
discovered that the

My Pain For Comfort
Pain For Comfort
I ve gone from house to house trying to find one to call home. I should call where i live home but
home shouldn t make you want to run. Walking into the door of my house feels so forlorn and cold.
Nothing there is ever happy and all the love has left along with the good memories. My only comfort
now comes from the solitude of my room and the deafening sound of my music, desperately trying to
drown out the shouts of anger and hate.
No I m not saying my life is completely awful, I do have good moments but not as often as I do bad
ones. A plethora amount of problems started with my mom and somehow moved its way towards my
dad and then my siblings. Everything isn t how it should be and where there should be love there is
hate and it just makes everything even more stressful when trying to focus on work and education. My
dad is the type of person everyone wants to know and love but behind the walls of the house he takes
all the anger in him and releases it like a tormented dragon on the knights he calls his family. My mom
is a people pleaser but that gets in the way a lot because she tries to please so much that all the stress
she gets from the day she holds back comes back home with her and wrecks everything. My house is a
constant alarm clock going off that has no snooze button. There is never a silent moment. There is
never peace.
Dinner was eaten together every night and we talked about stuff that made us happy. We went places

Quilt In Colonial America
History and the wide variety cultures has altered the way women quilt.
Quilts in Colonial America resembled their culture and lands from which the quilters had come from.
The wealthy and social prominent settlers in the south began to make patchwork quilts after the
middle class and poor women had been working on patchwork for hundreds of years. The Puritans
brought sturdy fabrics and simple designs, and in northeastern America the colors were more colorful.
Linsey woolsey, also known as woolen bedcovers were not often made as a staple within the
household. The woolen bedcovers were made of a woolen or glazed worsted fabric dyed in neutral
colors as a top layer, with the filling was a soft layer of carded wool; the layers were held together ...

Many quilts that were made in this time are now hanging in museums for all to see the beautiful
needlework of the pioneer women. The native Americans did not have all of the advantages in
technology like the pioneers did. Native American women had to grow or barter goods such as cotton,
twine, and dye to create such beautiful quilts, which also, are some of the most beautiful works done
that are hung in museums today. Quilting was a big technique that the Native Americans borrowed
from the Europeans.The natives altered this technique by changing how the quilt was represented;

Theories Of The Utimatum Game
We consider a two player game, where one player (the proposer) makes an offer to split an
endowment/an amount of money between the two players and the other player (the responder) can
accept or reject the offer in an ultimatum game (but has no choice in the dictator game).
In an ultimatum game, if the other player accepts, the money is split according to the proposal and if
the other player rejects, neither player receives anything. As suggested by game theory, the only sub
game perfect Nash equilibrium of the game is the strategy pair in which player one offers zero and
player 2 accepts all offers. Rational responders should accept even the smallest positive offer, since
the alternative is getting nothing. In a large number of human studies, ... Show more content on

As per what the theory predicts (based on non cooperative game theory), the dictator will allocate
nothing to the receiver in a simple dictator game. When property rights are introduced in the dictator
game, dictator earnings treatment , we expect dictators to produce as much wealth as possible and give
nothing to the receiver and in the receiver earnings treatment, we expect individuals in group Y to
produce the lowest earnings level possible and the proposer to offer a higher share. (Spraggon, 2008).
Thus, this theory will be validated if we observe in the experiment that the give rate of the participants
fall in the dictator game when property rights are given to proposers. In that case, we will accept the
hypothesis.
In the ultimatum game, the responder will not be willing to accept low offers if he/she has earned the
money and the dictator will not be expected give zero amount knowing this. If the property rights are
with the proposer, then too, he will give be expected to give more to the responder than in a dictator
game, fearing that very low offers will make the partner reject his/her proposal. If we observe such a
behavior, then the expected theory is

2017 is a rough year for the United States of America. In the center of racial divide, President Donald
Trump is trying to keep the country content. Whether it s protests all over the country ranging from
racial discrimination, or players of the National Football League (NFL), nobody can just throw their
issues aside and appreciate that they are living in the greatest country in the world and there are
countries around the globe that live worse than us. Every country will have issues between the citizens
within the country, but every person can do their part to help alleviate those problems. We must unite
together to end the protests against the flag and the President as well ending discrimination between
races. Ever since 2016, professional athletes have protested police brutality and racial inequality by

Once Upon A Time… There Were Two Cats, Katy And Alto, Who
Once upon a time... there were two cats, Katy and Alto, who lived in a boring little town. During the
long summers they would bathe in the sun and sit at the windows watching the birds fly by. Now, all
of this was great, but after a couple months, they began to get bored and wanted something new and
exciting to do. Luckily for them, it was beginning to get cold outside, which meant it was almost their
favorite time of the year, Christmas!
Why do Katy and Alto love Christmas time so much? For Alto, Christmas is the time of year when the
great Christmas tree comes to stay at the house. She loves hiding under the tree, drinking the tree s
water, running circles around the tree, and playing with the ornaments that are placed on the tree for ...

Katy had already lain down for her mid afternoon nap and did not want to get up or play any of Alto s
silly little games. Unfortunately for Katy, Alto is very persistent and does not give up until she gets
what she wants. (She likes to remind the humans of this persistence when they do not feed her quickly
enough!) Eventually Katy gave in and walked over to the tree with Alto. She tasted some of the water
and thought to herself, Why do I let Alto talk me into these things; there is nothing weird about this
water! But just as she was thinking this, she began to feel what Alto had described, and before they
knew it, they were being transported to a place they had never seen before.
Woah! Where are we!? said Alto. There s so much snow; let s run around in it!
Katy was not as impressed because she likes to stay curled up in her favorite chair at home and this
was definitely not her favorite chair or anywhere near home. Alto soon realized that the snow maybe
was not as great as she had first thought. The snow was cold and wet. Cats do not like to be cold and
wet. Even though they each had some issues with this new place, they were determined to figure out
where they were and how they got there. So, they began to explore.
As they were walking around, Katy saw something small and green run into a big building off in the
distance. Obviously they were not going to pass up the chance to check this out, so they ran in the
direction of the building to

Human Life Does Not Begin At Conception
Regularly the action is pondered; Which is worse, Risa often wondered, to have tens of thousands of
babies that no one wanted or to silently make them go away before they were born? (Shusterman 115)
Accounts of rape, incest, health issues, accident, ill will towards a partner, and poverty are common
reasons for women to consider and ultimately follow through with the act of abortion. What happens
to the children whom are bred into these sorts of predicaments that are not at all terminated?
According to 2015 statistics by the U.S. Department of Justice, 48,425 children are in foster care. Of
those 48,425, seventy four percent are being held in U.S. prisons. Within two years of Age out fifty
percent are incarcerated, and eighty percent of former foster youth are on Death Row. Human life does
not begin at conception due to brain development beginnings starting only at three to four weeks after
conception according to top U.S. Neurologists and under the above listed circumstances, a child
would, in reality, be better off being aborted than being moved from home to home or even being an
unbearable psychological and financial weight on the shoulders of those who follow through with
taking on a parental role responsibility. The debate of whether life begins at conception or after birth is
an age old argument. In fact the reason for the debate is because it has not been proven that life
absolutely begins at conception. There has never been a scientific consensus as to

The, Snail Fever, And Katayama Fever
1. Describe the causative agent
Schistosomiasis have three different names and these are bilharzia, snail fever, and Katayama fever
(Mawyer, 2013). It is a disease caused by parasites, meaning they live off the living host to survive.
Examples of parasitic organism are viruses, protozoa, and helminthes. They are flatworm or fluke,
known as Schistosomes and they cause Schistosomiasis disease. Schistosoma is the spices name and
Trematoda is the class that the organism falls under. Helminthes is the group or family of Schistosoma
((Keas, 1999). These organisms are facultative anaerobic, and they have the ability to move around in
water and in the host bloodstream. They reproduce sexually and asexually depending on the stage of
development; they are intracellular parasites at the mature stage. They live in water in the immature
state. Schistosomes are flatworm and are different from other worms because they compose of the
female and the male worm. The adult female worm is longer (1.5 2cm) than the male worm (1 1.5cm).
The female worm produces several hundreds of eggs daily to enhance its survival rate. An adult life
span of a Schistosome can go up to 5 to 10 years, so you can image how dangerous this infection is
(Ferrara, 2010).
This organism is eukaryotic, because they are multi celled organisms. They are symmetric on lateral
sides; meaning if you were looking at the right side of a flatworm you will see that both the right and
left sides are the same. They have a

The Access Of Clean Water
In today s world, the access to clean water is unspeakably easy. Technology has revolutionized what it
means to get clean water that is safe to drink, shower in, and play in. The water that is consumed by
humans comes from water treatment plants, making it perfectly safe. Many people don t think about
where their water comes from, or the process it has to go through in order for it to be consumable.
However, many countries do not have access to clean drinking water. In other places, people have to
clean their own water using the sun to kill bacteria. This process is called the SODIS process. SODIS,
meaning Solar Water Disinfection, is a process that uses solar radiation from the sun to kill the
bacteria in contaminated water. When countries do not have access to clean water, they use this
process because it doesn t require money and because it is quite simple to follow. Water is put into a
regular sized water bottle and is placed onto an area that can be affected by the sun, such as a roof.
Small bottles are usually used because there is a lower risk of contamination because of the small
space the water is in. The water can reach temperatures of 70 to 100 degrees. The SODIS process is
simple, but it is very time consuming; one bottle can take up to 6 hours to disinfect. SODIS has proven
to be a very reliable way to clean water. In countries where people may have to drink dirty water, they
can suffer from disease. According to the Centers for Disease

Civil War Poetry Essay
Civil War Poetry The American Civil War and the Spanish Civil War were primarily wars of principle.
The conflicts represented a critical point for each respective nation, a time of either death or
continuation for the countries. Both Whitman and Neruda exibit a key shared element in the poets
works of the concept of a cosmic rebirth illustrated in their poetry through a celebration of the
perpetual cycle of life and death fostering optimism. This mutual philosophy is manifested in Neruda
and Whitman s poetry in several interesting ways. One of the most striking biographical parallels
between the two poets originates from their direct involvement in civil war. Whitman served as a

In the section Arrival in Madrid of the International Brigade Neruda shows the troops from the
international forces arriving in the desolate city of Madrid. This section mirrors Whitman s Drum Taps
section of poetry Eighteen Sixty One which also focuses on the war as it is reaching a critical point of
expansion. Centered on the time of most profound national crisis, the poets use the image of gathering
soldiers to validate their cause. The solider becomes the embodiment of the poets war philosophies of
reconstruction out of destruction. Neruda and Whitman concentrate on the soldier s sacrifice as
requisite for societal salvation.
Each poem reflects the desolation resulting from the beginning stages of the conflict and subsequently
presents the gathering soldiers as a reason for hope. The sections begin submerged in the bleak
solemnity of the turmoil of war. This represents a shift from the booming patriotism in the proceeding
section in Drum Taps. Whitman s speaker shifts to a grave tone, lamenting the Arm d year year of
struggle, / No dainty rhymes or sentimental love verses for you terrible year (lines 1 2). The terrible
year is replete with the profound disintegration of societal structures as the order of the United States
is destroyed. The gravity presented in Eighteen Sixty One assumes a physical manifestation in Arrival

Macbeth s Ambition
Even though I think that Macbeth is one of if not the most interesting character to look at when it
come to ambition. Personally, my favorite ambitious character would have to be
Macduff. His story is something that everyone can admire and everyone can sympathize with. His
ambitions are not to really improve himself or have success for himself, but the entirety of Scotland.
He is very honorable and he would and did risk his own life for his country. When Duncan was king
he was loyal to him and him alone, but when word spread that Macbeth had killed the kings so that he
could become king Macduff could not bear to hear it. Although this was tough for him, it only drove
him to have a more passionate hatred for Macbeth and to resent him for infected

Government Bailout for Corporate Failures Essay
Gup (2003) brings out that financial trouble is a periodical concern that occurs to banks, industrial
companies and other organizations. Gup begins his article by reviewing the history and importance of
government bailouts for corporate failures. In his article on What Does Too Big to Fail Mean? he uses
rhetoric questions in order to engage the readers in his analysis of government bailouts. For instance,
he poses the question, what should governments and government regulators do about it? (Gup, 2003,
p. 29). It in this case referred to the periodical financial troubles of the above mentioned institutions.
By using the question, Gup engages the reader in trying to think about what the government can do in
cases where businesses face ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This organization was meant to deal with the widespread business failures, unemployment and
municipalities in financial distress. The RFC was however terminated in 1957 (Gup, 2003).
Gup presents a second option which governments can adopt in response to business failures by
exploring extents to whicht governments can move to protect companies from their competitors. He
gives the example of how in 2002 George W. Bush imposed tariffs on imported steel so as to protect
selected ailing steel companies from foreign competition. Gup highlights the opinions of others who
claimed that the move by the former US President was not an action taken in national interest but was
aimed at gaining West Virginia and Pennsylvania votes (Gup, 2003). Here Gup uses a skeptical
statement and attempts to make the reader aware that government action can be intended for political
gain instead of the goodwill of the nation.
Gup also uses approaches aimed at narrowing down the scope of his article. He presents aspects of the
wider topic about government bailouts and states that his article would not be reviewing those aspects.
Gup in his beginning chapters warns the reader that there are also cases where there is the intervention
of international bodies such as the International Monetary Fund, such as when the US Treasury and
IMF aided Brazil, Mexico, Korea, Brazil, Argentina and other

  • 2. Teraphim Themes Teraphim The gods and goddesses Dinahs mothers believe in are in the forms of teraphim, statutes that resemble the human shape. Jacob, Dinahs father, believes in the One God, as he learned from his his father and grandfather, and his religion (Judaism) and practices with animal sacrifice and ceremony. Jacobs religion does not fit his wives, who have practice their rituals for their gods and goddesses under the moon. They secretly worship their own gods, and take care not to offend Jacob with their practice, keeping it out of sight, knowing that he cannot approve his wife s religion. In each birthing scene, as the women prepare to push, they stand upon the bricks for support and positioning, symbolizing the gathering of their courage as they prepare to face death once again. Themes: Memory/story telling Dinah tells her story because of her fear that her tragedy will not live on, and will mean nothing. Dinahs story, in the Bible, is a footnote in the Bible, while the stories of her mother s, Rebecca, Rachel, and Leah live on, although the Bible misrepresents the powerful women in Dinahs life. She holds on to her memories, as an anchor so that when faced with a fresh start and a new life, she is afraid of moving on, as Dinah is still living in her tragic past. Childbirth/midwifery Four major characters in The Red Tent are midwives, Inna, Rachel, Dinah, and Meryt, and so childbearing is focused on as a woman s unavoidable battle with life and death. As a midwife Dinah loses many children and mothers. In the graphic scenes of women in labor, as they tear and bleed in the process of giving life, childbirth is seen as a woman s right of passage, and as a sacred ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Similarities Between Middle Colonies And New England Colonies In the 16th century, Europeans attempted to inhabit America, and their efforts sparked numerous occurrences within the various areas they were colonizing. These regions of English establishment are divided into three groups, based on how drastically varied they are from one another. Although, all three of the areas also share a few common similarities. The establishments were referred to as the New England Colonies, Middle Colonies, and Southern Colonies. As mentioned above, all of these regions have numerous similarities and differences concerning their formation and history. There are many elements to consider when discussing the establishment of the New England Colonies. For one, a number of English Puritans, in an organization called the Massachusetts Bay Company, decided to migrate to America, in hopes of a more favorable financial environment. In 1629, after much deliberation and an offer to pay out the original group of prospective settlers, only some of the Puritans agreed to travel to America, with an aspiration to concoct a Puritan sanctuary. A year later, they journeyed to New England with a charter from Charles I and with John Winthrop as their governor. The New England Puritans continued to be bound to their religious roots, but there were a few variations; the long established worshipping practices that England maintained were not favored, and the notion of predestination spread. Over time, the Massachusetts Bay Company prospered, and it rapidly grew in size. Another important historical figure was named Anne Hutchinson, and she disputed matters regarding religion and women s rights. Additionally, the Native Americans and the English settlers lived harmoniously and they assisted one another. Until, numerous wars occurred causing a rift between the two cultures. Some of these disturbances were called the Pequot War and King Phillip s War. Furthermore, the ownership of the Middle Colonies caused much commotion between the Dutch and English. Initially, the Dutch were in possession of the colonies, but the English disliked them for creating a divide between all of the colonies and for allowing smugglers to bypass certain laws. An English fleet seized control of New Amsterdam, and James ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Daedalus And Icarus Analysis The two myths Phaethon, and Daedalus and Icarus both depict 2 illogical, ambitious, and power hungry boys. In Daedalus and Icarus, and in Phaethon, Phaethon and Icarus both take a prideful neglection of the warnings from those who are older and wiser. Also, in both myths imagery is beautifully demonstrated and drawn out for the reader. Through the use of characterization and imagery, both unsophisticated protagonists Phaethon and Icarus demonstrate a shared theme, that being prideful with a disregard of warnings from those who are judicious and older can lead to disastrous consequences. To begin with, both myths depict characterization. The two arrogant protagonists do not think twice before anything. In Phaethon, Epaphus talks about visiting Zeus and receiving presents from Zeus. Phaethon then gets jealous and proceeds to lie. Oh yes. He taught me to handle the horses. Tall as this mountain... they breathe fire (49). Because of his actions Phaethon puts himself in a pickle. He easily could have let Epaphus belittle him, but he does not. Later on because of his actions, the whole world has to pay, the planet is destroyed and their are natural disasters because of Phaethon. This relates to the theme because he was being prideful and didn t care about anyone else beside him. Similarly in Daedalus and Icarus, Icarus is also boastful and doesn t care about the near future. Icarus is warned his wings will melt off if he goes too close too the sun. But just like Phaethon he lets pride take him over . I m the first boy ever to fly! Im making history! I shall be famous! thought Icarus (61). Though Icarus is reminded several times to not fly too high but to stay near Daedalus the elder he doesn t care to listen; which ended with a consequence death. His actions describe the type of person Icarus is, narcissistic and narrow minded. All Icarus wants to do is to show the birds he is supreme . It presents that listening to your elders can be life or death, in this case, death. These two myths both represent characterization. The shared theme is easily recognizable as they are both full of pride. Secondly, the two myths heavily use imagery. Imagery plays a key role throughout the two myths, whether it s describing the ... • 6. An Almost Love Lost In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein An Almost Love Lost Love lost is one of the most excruciating painful life altering wounds that any one person can suffer from. Whether it is a partner, an animal, a friend, or family members each one of these can damage a person when they lose what they deemed to be a requited loving feeling, or an attempt at one. In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein, the creature starts to read what was known as one of the first romantic novel of the 18th century, The sorrows of Young Werther among other novels like: Volney s Ruins of Empires, John Milton s Paradise Lost, and Plutarch s Lives of the Nobel Greeks and Romans, or Parallel Lives. This is what he learned in the end, that there is only destruction in love, nothing more and nothing less. Without love there is loneliness and despair, but there is no death, with love you go through the tortuous process of possibly forever losing this love which would kill you with an overwhelming sense of loss. • 7. Reflective Essay On Kids Clinical Rotation This week I started my GI for Kids clinical rotation. I did mostly shadowing on the first couple of days. While shadowing, I learned Wendy s roles. She sees about average 8 12 patients a day. Her typical day begins with reviewing her patients chart to monitor their health status, and then she goes to see them personally and obtain their progress. Lastly, she consults with doctors (the GI doctor who she works for and patients doctor) regarding the appropriate care that those patients need and order them. For instance, a patient with necrotic pancreatitis has been hospitalized for the past three weeks. The mother of the patient has stayed at the beside since the admission. The mother is a appropriated caregiver and really concerns for her child. Despite the chronic disease course of the necrotic pancreatitis, Wendy discussed with the mother regarding what kinds of processes need to be taken place before discharge, such as home health. She believes this will help to alleviate some stress off from the mother. Wendy did not specify when the patient would be able to go home, but rather explained what need to be accomplished prior to discharge. I think this is a appropriate action since it gives the mother an idea of what to expect in ahead. So far, the GI disorders that I have encountered in this clinical rotation are so different than the ones I saw during my primary care clinical rotations. Those patients are more complex and acutely ill. I was unfamiliar with many of these disorders (e.g superior mesenteric artery syndrome) and had to look them up. Beside the various GI disorders, understand and able to utilize different diagnostic tools and labs to help to make GI diagnosis is another thing that I hope to accomplish during my clinical time with Wendy. I am looking forward to next week s clinical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When the narrator reads Jean Christophe a book by Romain Rolland, he talks about the main character fondly Without him I would never have understood the splendor of taking free and independent action as an individual. Up until this stolen encounter with Romain Rolland s hero, my poor educated and re educated brains had been incapable of gasping the notion of one man standing up against the whole world (110). This is the main reason why Mao didn t want people reading any kind of literature that was not connected to the party or scientific. Books such as the one the narrator read inspired people which can motivate then to rise up against his dictatorship and lead to his loss of power. When talking about the main character from the Balzac Ursule Mirouet novel, the narrater sates I longed to be like her: to be able, while I lay asleep on my bed, to see what my mother was doing in our apartment five hundred kilometers away, to watch my parents having supper, to observe their gestures...better still, like Ursele, I would visit, in my dreams, places I had never set eyes on before... (58 59). From this passage it can be seen how disillusioned the youth of China were due to the re education process. Another key reason why Luo and the narrator were so interested in the books was because they could relate to the stories. The Simpsons is a great example of how some Television shows are diverting from the typical path of hypnotizing their viewers and are instead embracing dialogue that helps society become more cynical of television today. Quoting from his article Johnson says, What I am arguing for is a change in the criteria we use to determine what really cognitive junk food is and what is genuinely nourishing. In a statement made by Graff in Hidden Intellectualism ; What doesn t occur to us, though, is that schools and colleges might be at fault for missing the opportunity to tap into such street smarts and channel them into good academic work. My Strengths And Challenges In My Life Every individual will at some point in their life face obstacles that can hinder their growth; however, it is up to each individual to decide whether these obstacles will stop them entirely or carve them into a stronger, more perseverant being. I have faced various obstacles in my life, but I believe that my obstacles specifically those related to my shoulder health have developed me into the resilient man I am today. To explain, three days into my freshman year, I tore my labrum in my right shoulder at football practice. Although I had surgery to repair it, I knew my chances of being a three sport athlete were diminished. I was forced to stop playing football and wrestling, but I was lucky enough to be cleared to play baseball. High school baseball was my dream ever since I was a child, so I knew what it meant to the younger kids in my community. Now, it was my time to show them who I was, and I refused to let that be taken from me. For this reason, I began devoting much of my time to baseball. My first season went well, but my team did not do as well, so I couldn t wait for summer baseball. Unfortunately, while playing in the summer, I began to feel intense shoulder pain. Initially, I tried to hide my pain because I was scared that baseball would be taken from me. The N.R.A was an act called for industrial self regulation and declared that codes of fair competition for the protection of consumers, competitors, and employers were to be drafted for the various industries of the country and were to be subject to public hearings. The administration was empowered to make voluntary agreements dealing with hours of work, rates of pay, and the fixing of prices. The AAA paid farmers not to grow crops and not to produce dairy produce such as milk and butter. It also paid them not to raise pigs and lambs. The money to pay the farmers for cutting back production of about 30% was raised by a tax on companies that bought the farm products and processed them into food and clothing. Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), or Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), is a relatively new surgical procedure to combat aortic stenosis. When the aortic valve gets occluded from a congenital defect, or damage from calcium or scarring ,1 blood cannot flow through the valve efficiently. This leads to decreased availability of oxygenated blood to peripheral tissues, and can be harmful or even fatal to patients. When the malformations of the valve reach a critical point in which the patient s health will be significantly affected by the lack of proper blood flow,

Colin Pitchfork became the first person to be caught based on mass DNA screening, and the first to be convicted based on DNA profiling. The use of Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) in the criminal justice system has greatly tipped the scales in favor of law enforcement, and changed the world that we live in. Court cases that in the past relied heavily on eye witness testimony and circumstantial evidence now have science to back them up. DNA analysis has revolutionized the criminal justice system, and even though there are some flaws, the use of DNA evidence should continue to be used by law enforcement. While DNA profiling is still considered to be fairly new , the analysis of the human genetic variation began more than a century ago with the discovery of the human ABO blood group. Karl Landsteiner realized that these variations in humans could be used to solve crimes. In an ultimatum game, if the other player accepts, the money is split according to the proposal and if the other player rejects, neither player receives anything.
