Essay about Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
There are general rules and concepts that preside over the field of accounting. These general rules,
known as basic accounting principles and guidelines, shape the groundwork on which more thorough,
complex, and legalistic accounting rules are based. The Financial Accounting Standards Board
(FASB) uses the basic accounting principles and guidelines as a foundation for their own
comprehensive and complete set of accounting rules and standards. GAAP is exceptionally useful
because it attempts to regulate and normalize accounting definitions, assumptions, and methods.
Because of generally accepted accounting principles one is able to presuppose that there is uniformity
from year to year in the methods that are used to prepare a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

One explanation of why firms might choose to put into practice conservative accounting practices lies
in efficient contracting theory, for example, conservative accounting can be used as part of a firms
strategy to ease the conflicts that arise among the many claimants of a firm s net assets. This is
because conservative accounting methods place restrictions on the distribution of those net assets
thereby limiting the scope for self serving opportunistic behavior. Conservative accounting can also
help in bringing into line the interests of managers and shareholders through its impact on accounting
earnings measures that are regularly used in management compensation contracts (Iyengar Zampelli,
2010). The literature on conservatism accounting is very limited. Watts (2003), has suggested that
conservatism is related to debt contracts, while Gjesdal Antle (2001) suggest that conservatism is the
interaction between income measurement and dividend covenants. Even though conservatism may be
most favorable, the result derives from shareholders trading off cash flows in different periods, not
from the need to protect the interests of creditors. Another theory used in accounting is that of
Materiality. This notion necessitates that accounting centers on material facts and not on facts that are
immaterial to figuring revenues. Only transactions that have monetary

Rumination, Hope and Depression
Depression is one of the most common mental health problems encountered by adult men and women
(Kessler, Chiu, Demler, Walters, 2005; World Health Organisation [WHO], 2009). Affecting
approximately 121 million individuals worldwide, depression is within the top five leading causes of
disease and disability (WHO, 2009). Andrade et al. (2003) indicated that the prevalence of depression
among adults worldwide ranged between 1.2% and 10% among 10 different countries, with seven of
the ten countries clustered between the ranges of 3.5% to 5.9%. Within Australia, 12 month prevalence
rates for adults (16 85 years) for a depressive episode was 4.4% and for dysthymia was 1.3%, with
depressive disorders accounting for 20.4% of all mental health ... Show more content on

Those that do not meet diagnostic criteria for depressive disorders but have subthreshold depression
can still experience considerable psychological suffering (Cuijpers, de Graaf, van Dorsselaer, 2004;
Rapaport et al., 2002), and harmful implications for quality of life (Goldney, Fisher, Grande, Taylor
2004; Gotlib, Lewinsohn, Seeley, 1995).
Subthreshold depression has been characterised as the presence of depressive symptoms occurring in
individuals who do not meet diagnostic criteria for Major Depressive Disorder or Dysthymic Disorder
(APA, 2000; Cuijpers Smit, 2004; Kessler, Zhao, Blazer, Swartz, 1997; Judd, Rapaport, Paulus,
Brown, 1994). Subthreshold depression can be defined as scoring above cut off scores on self rating
depression scales or meeting DSM IV TR criteria for Minor Depression (Cuijpers Smit, 2004).
Symptoms of subthreshold depression can impact on an individual s emotions (dysphoria and guilt),
cognitions (worry, self criticism, self blame), behaviours (withdrawal from social functioning,
anhedonia) and physical wellbeing (lethargy, changes in weight) (APA, 2000).

How Did Orpheus Feel Like After Eurydice
I feel like the written myth was better than the movie adaption of it. The movie made some sense more
dramatic than they needed to be and other sense that I thought were pretty important in the myth was
not in the movie at all. None the less I did not think the movie was all that bad when are you are
comparing it to the written myth. Reading the myth before watching the movie might be the best
thing, it helps explain some information that helps explain some things in the movie. One aspect of the
written myth that I really enjoyed is how they explained Orpheus and how his mother gave him the
gift of music, in the movie it is easy to tell that Orpheus really enjoyed music. It was enjoyable to read
the background information that explained ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After reading the myth I feel like the director added the Death to show that Eurydice and Orpheus
relationship was failed from the beginning. They never had a chance to be together they were doomed
from the start. Apart from Death they also had to deal with Orpheus crazy fiancé (Or ex fiancé but
Orpheus never ended things with her) who did not want them together. Mira was the total opposite of
Eurydice. Eurydice had a feeling of innocence with her where Mira just seemed to flaunt everything
she had. I feel like Mira also could represent the Viper that killed Eurydice in the myth. After she
found out that Eurydice pretended to be her cousin to be by Orpheus during the carnival she went
crazy and chased after Eurydice. I feel like the main image that showed Mira as the Viper is when she
grabbed the giant staple like thing they could represent fangs of a viper. I do not think the director put
this scene in the movie for no reason. One aspect of the movie that I liked would be the two little boys.
They helped the movie flow and the story seemed to be mostly told from their points of view. I did
really like how the end of the movie they seemed to end on more of a happy note compared to the
myth. I like how they represented a new Orpheus as one of the little boys since when he played
Orpheus guitar and sun started the rise. They ended the movie but still left

As of 2009, 15 Japanese films had been nominated for best foreign language film at the Academy
Awards but none won until 2009. The Japanese films Gate of Hell by Teinosuke Kinugasa and
Samurai I: Musashi Miyamoto by Hiroshi Inagaki won special awards respectively in 1954 in 1955
but the foreign film category was not created until 1956. Akira Kurosawa s Rashomon received the
special award in 1951. He won Best Foreign Language Film Award in 1975 for Dersu Uzala but that
film was made for the Soviet Union not Japan.
The Japanese have long had a knack for telling a good ghost story. And for more than half a century
they ve been equally adept at putting those stories on the screen. Yet Japanese movies featuring the
supernatural are different from their Western counterparts. Japanese spirits tend to be more passive
their mere presence often driving guilty souls to ruin or redemption. Though such films can be
enjoyed anytime, Halloween s approach makes them especially attractive as a welcome twist to an
otherwise predictable holiday. Below are several films, available individually on DVD from the
Criterion Collection, that show the Japanese flair for fright. Some are undisputed classics, while others
represent milestones in the genre s development.

Viacom Case Analysis
Strategic Group and Mission Statement: In 1995 one of the strategic groups Viacom competed in was
cable TV content providers with its main competitors including News Corp and Time Warner. The
purpose of Viacom is to provide benefit to society through media content. The beliefs Viacom holds to
realize its mission are growth, performance, and competition and the values upheld are
communication, technology, knowledge, intelligence and the decentralized organization. General

To become vertically integrated, a company trying to enter the strategic group would need to acquire
several companies in different areas of the entertainment industry. These acquisitions would be highly
capital intensive and very risky for a new entrant. Another barrier to entry is the product
differentiation in the strategic group. Each company in the strategic group has certain channels that are
considered premium channels. Cable providers are willing to pay more for these channels, which they
end up having to charge the end consumer more for. These premium channels differentiate content
providers from one another. The content providing business is a highly capital intensive business.
Therefore, the capital required to enter the strategic group and compete is extremely high. To calculate
the capital required for a new entrant, we first found the average revenue of the strategic group (~$7.5
billion). We then assumed that a new entrant would have to capture about a third of this average to
even make an impact in the industry. Taking this assumption into account, we figured that the new
entrant would need about $2.5 billion in its first year of operation. Using this revenue, we then
calculated the first year expenses the new entrant would incur. • Expenses based upon 3 months
(3/12): #61607; Total Expenses (90% of Revenue): $562.5 million • Beginning Assets (based off
Viacom/3): #61607; Movie and TV inventory: $329 million #61607;

Poverty Causes Of Poverty
Madagascar is one of the most beautiful countries in the world. It has such a diverse selection of flora
and fauna. The country is known for housing many species of animals that other countries do not.
Madagascar has over 200,000 different species of mammals, amphibians, reptiles, etc ( Madagascar
Wildlife for Kids ). Their landscapes are absolutely breathtaking, with gorgeous sunsets in the
springtime to tie in the beauty. But, then you move along to the towns of Madagascar, and these are
the most devastating of all. With Madagascar suffering heavily from poverty, their lifestyle is tragic.
Their living conditions are poor, healthcare is almost non existent, jobs are limited, and education is
deteriorating. The way in which these people live is truly heartbreaking to see. Madagascar is in major
poverty for a number of reasons. One reason the country suffers is because of the past Kleptocratic
Rule it endured, which affected its money situation greatly. The previous French Dictator, Didier
Ratsiraka, and other workers of the government stole excessive amounts of money from the Aid and
Development of Madagascar Fund. This kind of corruption caused friction when the country tried to
invest and trade with other countries( Why is Madagascar so Poor? ). A poorly organized government
can lead to a poorly organized country, which is another reason why Madagascar suffers. There are
only about 5,780 kilometers of paved roads out of the 49,827 kilometers of marked roads the country
has. The road conditions, as one can imagine, are dreadful. Cyclones and other types of annual storms
are to blame for this. But, to help build and repair roads, the past President, Marc Ravalomanana,
helped to repair the damaged infrastructure the country holds. Furthermore, the Madagascar has a very
small population of about twenty four million people, meaning that there is not a lot of money being
funneled into the government, which can be a leading problem in lack of infrastructure. Lastly, due to
the country s shortcomings in the economy, no other country really wants to develop, transport, or sell
goods there, which is a problem when it comes to the citizens buying goods. This can also send
market prices soaring, if some items

The Importance Of Biblical And Historical Allusions In...
Allusions can influence the text in a variety of ways. Biblical and historical allusions are often the
most recognizable in literature and can have a variety of impact. Biblical and historical allusions
create an embellishment of imagery, characterization, and the manifestation of government. An
emphasis seen through allusions is in how imagery is portrayed. Bubbly Creek is described as being
constantly in motion, as if huge fish were feeding in it, or great leviathans disporting themselves in its
depths (pg 94). Sinclair used a biblical allusion to demonstrate imagery using a leviathan, which is
enormous monster first mentioned in later part of the book of Job in The Bible. The leviathan is
enormous and has an indescribable amount of strength and can penetrate a double layer of armor. The
contents of Bubbly Creek have an equivalency of a leviathan, which shows how much power Bubbly
Creek possesses; as well as how nothing else could ever equate to it in size and its unrestrained moves.
Another biblical allusion that Sinclair alludes to is the Egyptian plague of flies in the book of Exodus
and with the hot weather descended upon Packingtown a veritable Egyptian plague of flies; there
could be no describing this the houses would be black with them (pg 104). Sinclair uses this allusion
to exemplify how horrid the conditions were in Packingtown, the plague of flies in The Bible is
described as being so dense in the Pharaoh s palace and the rest of Egypt was covered and

Macbeth Bit The Apple
Macbeth Bit the Apple
Aristotle, the ancient Greek philosopher, defines a tragic hero as, a person who must evoke a sense of
fear and pity in the audience. He is considered a man of misfortune that comes to him through the
error of judgment. (1). The fall of the tragic hero is often blamed upon the characteristic of hubris or
excessive pride toward the natural order of things. To the Greeks such conceit to the natural order or in
their case the gods, was punished with terrible wrath. In Greek tragedies the hero was often pitied in
his fallen plight but not forgiven and instead received a bleak outcome. However, on the opposite side
of the western world, Christian Drama leaves a ray of hope for our tragic hero.
In the tragedy of Macbeth, a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the end this ultimately creates a feeling of regret which, in the case of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth,
drive them insane. When Macbeth killed Duncan his mental stability was questionable at best. He did
things such as visualize a floating dagger and see the ghost of a dead Banquo. Committing such a
crime as murder leaves anyone with regret for the rest of their life and that was deeply evident through
the play. We can clearly see Macbeth fall into his regret and guilt when he says this quote after killing
Duncan, One cried, God bless us! and Amen, the other, as they had seen me with these hangman s
hands. List ning their fear, I could not say Amen, when they did say God bless us . Methought, I heard
a voice cry, Sleep no more! Macbeth does murder sleep . (Shakespeare 2.2.29 32). The murder that
starts with his ambition to become King ruins Macbeth s life and kickstarts his descension into a regret
that leads him to a tragic dementia. The word that Macbeth used to say so easily, Amen, all of the
sudden became a word that is impossible to say. Macbeth believes that he will no longer have the
protection by his God because he had committed such an appalling crime that is unforgivable.
Furthermore into the story the guilt only becomes heavier like a bucket being filled with water. After
Macbeth sees a ghost of Banquo, he says, I am in blood Stepp d in so far, that, should I

How Does Polonius Manipulate Hamlet
Throughout the course of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, tragedy in five acts Polonius is proven to have a
hand in the functions of the monarchy. He continuously observes the goings on in the castle, reports
back to the king and tried to manipulate people under command of the king. At the end of Act III
Polonius is murdered by Hamlet, which represents the coming fall of the monarchy. Polonius is

Scientific Revolution
Kuhn used the Chemical Revolution as one of his primary examples of a scientific revolution and
based on what was read and discussed in class, I agree with Kuhn s analysis. Historical examples of
Kuhn s account of the chemical revolution in the Structure of Scientific Revolution are exemplified in
the Phlogiston theory, its period as a paradigm, point of normal science, and eventually the theory s
abandonment for Lavoisier s discovery of oxygen as a point of Scientific Revolution.
In Kuhn s Structure of Scientific Revolution, he presents that science is a cycle that has a paradigm,
which begins with a period of normal science, a crisis, revolution, then a paradigm change.

Lavoisier disavowed the phlogiston theory and paradigm through his memoir, insisting that the
phlogiston theory was unclear. Lavoisier describes the situation as he states in his Memoirs that the
majority of metallic calces are not to be reduced, that is, returned to the metallic state, without the
immediate contact of a carbonaceous material or any substance whatsoever containing what we call
phlogiston and therefore the fact that this fluid is obtained as fied air gives us no right to conclude that
it existed in this form in the metallic calx before its combination with the carbon (Lavoisier 164).
Lavoisier declared that in attacking here Stahl s doctrine my object is not to substitute a rigorously
demonstrated theory but solely a hypothesis which appears to me more probable, more comfortable to
the laws of nature, and which appears to me to contain fewer forced explanations and fewer
contradictions (Lavoisier 173). He is declaring that his discovery of oxygen is more legitimate than
Stahl s (also the phlogiston paradigm) theory of phlogiston. Lavoisier grew support when he released
his remarks opposing the phlogiston theory (Perrin 47). Furthermore, other experiments were
conducted on the basis of the phlogiston theory, and complications arose from this. Experimenters
were seeing that the theory had some complications when they conducted experiment, producing
incompatible effects than the theory had suggested (Perrin). Also, the release of the Method of

The Atomic Bomb Essays
August 6th, 1945, 70,0000 lives were ended in a matter of seconds. The United States had dropped an
atomic bomb on the city of Hiroshima. Today many argue whether or not the U.S. should have taken
such a drastic measure. Was it entirely necessary that we drop such a devastating weapon? To answer
that first we must look at was going on in the world at the time of the conflict. The U.S. had been
fighting a massive war since 1941. Moral was most likely low, and resources were at the same level as
moral. Still both sides continued to fight and both were determined to win. Obviously the best thing
that could have possibly happened would have been to bring the war to a quick end with a minimum

We shall continue to use it until we completely destroy Japan s power to make war. This quote
embodies the spirit of the American people of the time. The public was eager for a quick end to the
war and American casualties. Also Truman threatens to utilize the A bomb s power again until we are
victorious. In hindsight it is clear the correct decision was made. How can anyone be certain that
Japan would have continued to fight? It is possible that they were preparing for surrender, no one can
say for certain exactly what would have happened but by examining evidence of Japanese culture and
warfare it is obvious that would not have been the case. At the time of WWII systematic and organized
education made efficient quot;brainwashing quot; possible. In public schools, students were taught to
die for the emperor. By late 1944, a slogan of Jusshi Reisho meaning, quot;Sacrifice life, quot; was
taught. In addition to civilian s dedication to their country, there was a group of military pilots called
the Kamikaze. Kamikaze were suicide pilots. They would load up an airplane and try to nose dive it
into an enemy target. Think about what must be on that pilot s mind. Imagine the undying love for his
country. He would fight to the bitter end for his emperor. The most frightening part of this is that the
entire Japanese military thought this way. The fact that the enemy is willing to die so long as you die

Short Story The Painted Door
Throughout your life you will be required to make certain commitments, it becomes your choice if
you want to stick to these commitments or not. However breaking commitments can lead you to
actions you eventually want to forget about or renounce. That is why in situations where you are faced
with a decision, you need to follow what both your heart and mind say. In the short story The Painted
Door by Sinclair Ross, the author develops this idea in that Ann has to make a decision on her
commitment to John, what she decides to do leads her to much regret.
Initially, John and Ann are a happily married couple living on a farm, they have been married for
seven years. They both adore and love each other greatly, but with John working all the time to pay off
the mortgage, Ann starts to feel lonely and trapped. Isolation is already a problem for Ann, and with
John leaving amidst the start of a storm, this can only get worse. Ann shows her commitment to John
by asking him to stay, as she cares for his safety and well being. John s gesture to tell their friend
Steven to come over and look after Ann for the day while he was gone, truly proves his commitment
to her and how he cares about her physical well being. There are signs that she is not fully committed
to him, but not in a loving way; John does not pay much attention to her mental well being and
because of her loneliness and the feeling of being trapped this could be seen as a loss of commitment.
However, with her husband away

The Maltese Falcon, was not only a detective film, but a film that displayed many different aspects of

explored the ideas of the detective genre and the different characteristics of femininity and

John Keegan s The Face Of Battle
John Keegan s The Face of Battle and Sir Charles Oman s The Art of War in the Middle Ages provide
insight into how historians approach the subject of battle. When discussing warfare, historians
typically approach the subject from a procedural point of view, but it has also become normal to focus
on combatants experiences. By cross comparing Keegan and Oman s descriptions of the Battle of
Agincourt, it is apparent that both the procedural method and the method of focusing on individuals
have merit. However, Keegan and Oman s alternate depictions of the battle demonstrate how
combining both perspectives give a more complete understanding of the past.
Historical writings have evolved from procedural accounts of events to inquisitive reflections on
combatants. Focusing on weapons, strategies and generals perspectives the procedural approach
quickly provides in depth information, but often in a distorted way 1. It is important to remember a
commander s actions and the events of their battles are often exaggerated to support current political
goals . Alternately, a slightly more encompassing approach to warfare considers the conflict s
decisiveness in addition to the battle s statistics and facts 1. That is to say, what influence did the battle
have on future events and how were people s lives changed by it. Beyond these procedural
approaches, modern historians now use a more inquisitive method that combines personal experiences
and facts. This more inclusive method allows

Aztec Dbq Essay
The Aztec arrived in Mesoamerica in the 13th century. They started at a city called Tencha Italian, and
then they became later the most dominant force that existed in Mesoamerica. By the 15th century, they
had a developed government, food source, and religion. The Aztecs had a great food source, and

Aztecs also strongly believed in human sacrifice, for the gods. They believed the gods would be upset

According to Document B, the Aztecs made a very advanced agricultural system that used floating
islands as plots called Chinampas. This shows how smart they really were to take advantage of the
swampy but great soil. Then, they were able to make a food surplus and then create a civilization with
religion and other traditions. That meant without farming, they couldn t even do human sacrifice.
Also, in Document B, it states Approximately twenty thousand acres of chinampas were constructed
[around Tenochtitlan] and the yield from them was high: four corn crops were possible. This shows
how agriculturally advanced the Aztecs were, when the Spanish arrived in the 1500 s, the Spanish
could only receive three corn crops per year unlike the Aztecs. Although, the Aztecs were able to make
their system of chinampas centuries before the Spanish came. The Spanish then invaded the Aztecs
Document C also shows very interesting information as well. IN document C, it states THe men at the
right plant and harvest the maize, while the women on the left grind and roll it into tortillas. Behind
them, there is a person dressed as a corn goddess. This shows the importance of the agriculture to the
Aztecs and how they are working so hard at it. They also pray to the goddesses, who would
supposedly give them good luck during farming. The Aztecs really cared about their farming and
spent enough time to make a great

Computer Science And Medicine Or Art Science
The STEM related fields have always tended to be predominantly male; engineering and my major of
interest computer science are composed mainly of male students. These fields have just recently
started seeing more and more women pursuing them. Computer Science is an amazing field and offers
a variety of opportunities in terms of how it can be applied; it can be a combination of computer
science and another field computer science and medicine or art/design. There are endless possibilities
as to what future technology can be developed and what new ideas can be created because of
engineers, but if the field remains mostly comprised of men then we re missing out on the many ideas
that the female side and perspective may have to offer.
Learning about Corrinne Yu was enlightening because not only is she an engineer but she s one of the
best in her field, whether it be through gaming, physics, or mechanics. It s refreshing to hear about a
woman changing the standards so drastically in a male oriented industry like that of gaming because
from my experiences girls who play video games are considered doing it for attention or the male
approval rather than the idea that we generally enjoy just playing the game. Knowing that some of the
designs that transformed the way gaming is now ran was due to her incredible ability, gave me a lot of
hope and ambition to strive to be able to do half of what she was capable of. While doing my research
on her, I knew when I checked the comments on

Sexual Promiscuity During The Cold War
Another example that corroborate to the message of domesticity during the Cold War was nuclear
annihilation and the nuclear containment culture. The Red Scare fostered a climate of fear and
repression. It was believed by the American people that communists taught children to betray their
parents; mannish women mocked the ideals of marriage and motherhood. In addition to this, with the
looming threat of nuclear annihilation increased paranoia and propaganda that led to the linking of
perversion to national weakness. While the men defend the front lines of our country, it was the
women s job to defend the frontline of the home. The American housewife played a important role in
ensuring strong and stable family relationships in order to defend against political or sexual
subversions. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The traditional family became a symbolism of the American Dream. Being a housewife become a
marker of wealth and ultimately a prosperous capitalist society. However, with this belief came
increased rigid gender roles which discourage women from pursing professional career. Women who
challenged these traditional gender roles placed the nation security at risk because it would lead them
to sexual promiscuity. Despite this, many women did not leave the labor force. With the influx of
women into the workforce, many fears such as sexual promiscuity, neglected children and women
violating biological nature emerged. Furthermore, sex was was out of control, their was widespread
premarital intercourse, homosexual activities and extramarital sex among American men an women.
In order to avoid these dangerous and adhere to family values, marriage was considered the solution,

The Symbols Of Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken
Robert Frost went from an unstable farmer aspiring to be a poet to a celebrated American poet and
four time Pulitzer Prize winner. In his poem The Road Not Taken , he writes about the hard choices
that people have to make in their lives. Robert uses extended metaphors and symbolism to show the
uncertainty and psychological chaos people feel while making hard choices. Robert was born in San
Francisco, California on March 26th, 1874. His parents, William Prescott Frost and Isabelle Moodie
were both teachers ( Robert 1). William and Isabelle met while they were both teaching in
Pennsylvania and fell in love. In 1884 William Frost died, leaving his wife and son on their own. The
family struggles financially since they were only receiving one check instead of two (Encyclopedia 1).
Throughout elementary and middle school, Robert surprisingly didn t like going to school. He would
have rather been playing football or baseball with his friends. His mother made him realize the
importance of an education just in time for high school (American 1). In 1892 he graduated high

only finished one term. Robert and Elinor got accepted into different and when she wouldn t agree

He is the International Ministries Director of Langham Partnership International. He was the principal
of All Nations College. He is the honorary member of the All Saints Church of Langham Place in
London, England. In his book, Knowing Jesus Through the Old Testament, Dr. Wright looks to bring
about the unity between the Hebrew Scriptures and the understanding of Jesus pertaining to the Word

When we look at the book, what we can see is that it is targeted to Christians who have a limited
comprehension of the Old Testament. What Dr. Wright wants to do by way of his book is to illustrate
that the character, doctrine and ministry of Christ Jesus came by way of His own knowledge of the
Old Testament. He uses very important portions of the New Testament in order to help us in knowing
who Jesuswas and His purposes and plans that were in existence, are still present, and yet to come.
CRITICAL INTERACTION Dr. Wright uses and asseses the Old Testament as an announcement of
Christ Jesus. That is very easy for us to understand Scriptures very well. Sometimes, it seems to be
tense, as Dr. Wright doesn t appear to be suitable with the motive of going too far in his recollection
and application of the Old Testament passages. This factor is evident in the second chapter of the book
where he talks about and points out the meaning of typology, as he takes the attitude that it is not a
wonderful technique of interpretation. However, it is helpful when it is come across in the correct
technique. He provides a traditional yet broad frame as to how the Old Testament provides light on the
life of Jesus and His role as the Anointed One. Dr. Wright brings about the fact that the main purpose
of God for Israel from the time of Abraham was that they would be

Roman Myths
Intro In 1955 poet and scholar Robert Graves wrote: Myth has two main functions, the first is to
answer the sort of awkward questions that children ask ...The second function of myth is to justify an
existing social system and account for traditional rites and customs . Myths have played a large role in
many societies over time. Two societies that are known for their mythology are the Ancient Greeks
and the Romans. There are many similarities between the myths of these two societies because the
Romans enveloped much of the Greek mythology to use as their own. Because of this, it is interesting

Roman mythology has a lot in common with Greek mythology. Sometimes it is directly plagiarized,
sometimes merely combined with an original Roman myth. The two most influential Roman writers in
terms of Roman religious beliefs were Ovid whose Magnum Opus Metamorphoses created the canon
of the history of the world for the ancient Romans and Virgil whose epic The Aeneid tells the story of
the most famous Roman hero, the trojan warrior Aeneas.
The common theme of intervening gods can be found in nearly all religions but Greek and Roman
mythology are perhaps the most famous for gods who actively meddle in the plans and goals of other
deities. Rome as known today was founded a good bit after many Greek city states had become
established. The values of Greek society were then transposed onto Roman society, values such as art,
philosophy, literature and drama. Greek mythology was well known but it was warped to fit a Roman

The Rio Grande Valley (Rgv) Is Growing Economically. There
The Rio Grande Valley (RGV) is growing economically. There has been an increase in new
businesses, especially in cities like McAllen, Edinburg, and Pharr. As stated on EconomicsHelp, the
main factors that increase economic growth are an increase in aggregate demand and aggregate
supply. Thus, a business will succeed in the Rio Grande valley by analyzing the community s supply
and demand.
I lived in front of La Plaza Mall for about 8 years. I noticed the La Plaza Mall has a lot of customers

Moreover, these skilled people may not have a high school diploma, however, getting a certification
for credentials in their work would be less costly than having to go to a technique school to learn the
skills. By employing the unemployed skilled people from the community, the local economy may
improve over time. In other words, the skilled workers will have more discretionary money to spend
in other local businesses.
Supplies to make clothing is abundantly available in or near the RGV. Apparel supplies may be
sourced from downtown fabric stores in McAllen or Mexico. Regarding infrastructure, surprisingly, it
is a lot less costly to start a business in the RGV than in any other city. The Valley is economically
expanding and buying a location for a boutique now will be a great investment for the future.
Personally, I believe the Rio Grande Valley may become a destination place for tourist like San
Antonio or Austin.
Therefore, the high demand stylish and quality produced clothing proves that a boutique that sells eco
friendly and ethically produced clothing may succeed in the RGV. The clothing boutique that sells
quality clothing is an example of monopolistic competition. Being in the monopolistic competition
market means that the boutique offer a differentiated product, in this case being eco friendly and
ethically produced clothing, and competition is high.
As a new business, the clothing boutique should start out small and slowly grow over time. A

people using the flaws within our media and lives, we as a society must come to accept the fact that

with FERPA, they can also get the records themselves. Protecting Children s Privacy Online The law

harder for them to get to them. My opinion though, is that they should raise the age, teenagers are still

Tell All Truth But Tell It Slant Poem Analysis
Poetry is defined as writing that formulates a concentrated imaginative awareness of experience in
language chosen and arranged to create a specific emotional response through meaning, sound, and
rhythm (CITE) There are many great poets but one of the most highly regarded is Emily Dickinson.
Dickinson is considered the recluse of Amherst, little did everyone know, she would turn out to be one
of the most influential poets of not only her time but forever. Two of her poems This is my letter to the
world, and Tell all truth but tell it slant both deal with society and people s emotions. In the poem this
is my letter to the world Emily writes about the feeling she has as she leaves society. Tell all truth but
tell it slant is a piece about how the truth is not meant for everyone. Emily Dickinson uses poetic
devices such as personification, rhyme scheme, and metaphor to accurately convey the unique themes
of her pieces.
In Dickinson s poem This is My Letter to the World, she is expressing her reclusiveness towards the
world. What Emily means by this is that she wrote a letter to the world, but the world does not know
who she is since she never leaves her home. She also writes about what nature has taught her in hopes
to teach other people lessons. In the closing of the poem she asks the readers to not judge her harshly
on what she has written. The overall theme of this poem is that if people were to judge, they should
judge by the truth. She does not want to be judged harshly for separating herself from the world, she
just wants to belong. She uses many devices through all of her poems to help convey the overall
theme. In the poem This is My Letter to the World, Dickson uses the personification of nature, rhyme
scheme, and metaphor to show her overall theme.
Within the poem, Dickinson writes, The simple news that Nature told, With tender majesty. Dickinson
is using personification because nature cannot literally speak to her and tell her the basic truths about
life. In this poem, Dickinson communicates with the world, though the message from Nature. She
views nature as her friend, which stresses to the reader that nature is personified. Dickinson uses slant
rhyme within the poem, she also uses

Sustainable Growth And Sustainable Development
Sustainable development. A concept that has only recently become highlighted and pursued by the
international community. In a country like Nigeria, there is focus on economic growth on the
sustaining of their people, not the interest of the environment, however this trend is beginning to
change as the country is moving toward a future of power from alternative sources, such as solar
power and wind power (Our Objectives, n.d.). Sustainable development, according to the Brundtland
Report, meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to the
meet their own needs. (IISD) The United Nations has been at the forefront of this drive for a more
sustainable, namely with the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which highlight
not only environmental aspects, but also societal (human right based) (e.g. No Poverty, focus on
Gender Inequality). Prior to the creation of the SDGs, were the Millennial Development Goals
(MDGs) during the beginning of the 21st Century, which eventually became the SDGs. The SDGs
implemented several new points that seemingly filled the gaps , so to speak, left by the MDGs. These
goals were adopted in September of 2015 with an expected fruition date of 2030 (Madeley 2015).
The issue being addressed is the path of countries in their quest for growth and sustainable
development, as a result. For many, there is a shared sentiment that developing countries should not be

Government Censorship and Control in Brave New World
Imagine a society in which its citizens have forfeited all personal liberties for government protection
and stability; Aldous Huxley s Brave New World, explores a civilization in which this hypothetical has
become reality. The inevitable trade off of citizens freedoms for government protection traditionally
follows periods of war and terror. The voluntary degradation of the citizens rights begins with small,
benign steps to full, totalitarian control. Major methods for government control and censorship are
political, religious, economic, and moral avenues. Huxley s Brave New World provides a prophetic

The World State forbids the citizens from experiencing any negative emotion, for fear of losing
control. Soma, Latin for sleep, renders its users to a coma like blissful state, which Congdon describes,
borrowing the statement from Huxley himself, that soma allows the citizens to, periodically escape
from the pressure of routine and worldly cares (Congdon). Citizens are conditioned to use the drug at
the slightest challenge to the cultural norms, preventing any thoughts of rebellion or contempt against
the government.
Moreover, the World State explicitly harvests this religious emotion through requiring the citizens to
prescribe to their own self made religion, Fordism. As practitioners of Fordism, the citizens of the
World State revere real world Henry Ford as their savior. Huxley utilizes satirical comparisons
between Christianity and Fordism to illuminate that today s government utilizes Christianity in a
similar way, to quell the masses. Huxley uses obvious parodies such as switching Our Lord for Our

Junk Food Should Be Banned In Schools
Long live junk food, a child s best friend who has stuck with them throughout all these years. Schools
are considering to erase these long term companions from a student s educational lives once and for
all. The question we are asking here is whether or not this is going to be a choice that is worth it. Junk
food should not be banned in schools because banning junk food in school cannot guarantee
restrictions on junk food outside of school, cutting out junk food greatly decreases school revenue, and
the availability of healthier foods does not ensure proper intake of calories.
When junk food is banned in school, it does not guarantee a ban everywhere else outside of school. As
Radford states, Whether or not junk food is available to them at school may not have much bearing on
how much junk food they eat (7). This could be due to multiple reasons. Outside of school, junk food
is an inexpensive source that is widely available and any student would have access to them because
of how conveniently located they are. Not only are they conveniently placed, they are also served in
large portions (Reyman 1). If junk food was banned, these outside locations could then serve as
escapes for students from the policies that have been placed. There will also be students who would be
exempt from the policies once they are set in stone students who like to pack their own lunch (Jaonick

wanton injury has been defined by the courts as the conscious and intentional disregard of and
indifference to the rights and safety of others, which the defendant knows or should know is
reasonably likely to result in injury, damage, or other harm. Estrada v. Consol. Util. Servs., Inc., No.
5:10 CV 161 RLV, 2011 WL 2174467, *2 (W.D.N.C. June 2, 2011) Our client probably wouldn t be
ruled to have willfully or wantonly injured the trespassing child as he did not consciously or
intentionally injure the child. There is an exception which allows for premises liability in the absence
of wilful or wanton injury to a trespasser. The exception is premises liability under the attractive
nuisance doctrine.
There are two main purposes of the attractive nuisance doctrine. First, the attractive nuisance doctrine
acknowledges that children will trespass and may be injured while doing so. The doctrine considers
this, and then weighs the interest in protecting children with its second purpose: to avoid an
unreasonable burden on the property owner when ensuring their property is safe for trespassing
children. Liability to an injured child, that was either too young to appreciate

Gaius Julius Caesar And The Fall Of The Roman Empire
General, politician, and master of propaganda, Gaius Julius Caesar, better known as Julius Caesar, is
closely associated with the fall of the Roman Republic. A man of profound charisma who was well
known for his pivotal military campaigns, Caesar was also an author and a shrewd developer of
military propaganda . He also became known for expanding the roman republics geographic borders
and founding its imperial system. Caesar had battled in numerous wars and took part in the Roman
government. The start of his Dictatorship of the Roman Empire, would ultimately be the cause the end
of his life. He would later become a large part in the History of Western Civilization. This essay will
explore the life of Julius Caesar, his influence on the Roman Republic, government, military, and
social practices.
Around July 13, 100 BCE, Gaius Julius Caesar was born in Rome . His mother was named Aurelia
Cotta, who was a born noble. His father governed the province of Asia as a Praetor, he was also named
Gaius Julius Caesar.
When he was fifteen years of age, his father passed away, making him the, paterfamilias, leader of his
home . He decided that becoming part of the priesthood, would benefit his family. There, he managed
to be nominated as the High Priest of Jupiter. Not only did Caesar have to take part in patrician stock,
he had to marry a patrician woman. He then became engaged to a woman named Cornelia. Cornelia
was daughter of Lucius Cinna, high profile and powerful leader of the Populares . This marriage
provoked fury in the, self declared Dictator, Sulla. He began a methodical elimination of foes and
those who held to the Populare ideology. Cornelia s father was Sulla s political opponent. Because of
this, Sulla targeted Caesar. He commanded that Caesar divorce his wife, or he would lose his property.
Caesar refused and fled Rome, but his sentence was lifted intercession of his mother s family.
Regardless, Caesars position as Priest was stripped and his wife s dowry was impounded.
With no means to take care of his family, Caesar enlisted in the military. During Caesar s time in the
military, he proved himself a good and effective solider. For saving someone s life, Caesar was
presented the civic crown. He also

Genghis Khan As A Tyrant
Genghis Khan: Mongolian Tyrant or Hero?
Genghis Khan was a military and political leader, a father, and a tyrant or a hero depending on which
side of the battle you were on. By the time Genghis Khan died you could fit four Roman Empires
within the Mongolian border. He became strong because of the hardships and experiences of his
childhood. He transformed the Mongolian tribes into a country much like the Persian wars united the
Greek city states into Greece.
Everybody Knows who Genghis Khan is, but how many know about Temujin. Temujin is Genghis
Khan s real name. He wasn t given that name until he united the Mongolian plains later in life.
Genghis means strong and Khan means leader. So he was called strong leader by his followers.

When Temujin was young he was the son of the chief of the Tayichud tribe. His father was poisoned
by someone from the Merkid tribe that they raided. After his father s death, his clansmen stopped
sharing food with his family and eventually the new clan lord banished them from the group and left
their family. Temujin and his brothers had to forage for food. He became best friends with a boy
named Jamuka from a nearby encampment. Jamuka became his Ananda or blood brother.
When he was young, Temujin went with his father to arrange a marriage with someone from his
mother s family to maintain family ties and power. While he was on his way, they met an old man who
boasted that his tribe had the most beautiful girls. This turned out to be true, and his father arranged a
marriage with the old man s granddaughter. She was just a year older than Temujin and he fell in love
with her. When he turned 16 he went to find the girl, Borte, and married her. Borte and Temujin had
four children named Jochi, Chagatai, Ogodei, and

Egg Lab Report
Did you know that eggs can be used for things other than eating? They can be used to show examples
of some scientific processes. These processes include, but aren t limited to, osmosis and diffusion. The
experiment I did is an example of eggs being used to show these processes in an experiment called
Eggsperiment . To do this I got four equal containers big enough to fit and egg in. Next, I put ¾ a cup
of several liquids in the containers with the eggs and checked it every 24 hours over a 48 hour period.
I started my egg speriment on October 16, 2015 with 4 eggs. Egg one was 145 millimetre(mm), Egg
two was 135 mm, Egg three was 130, and Egg four was 141 mm. They all had similar characteristics;
smooth, solid, white, with no imperfection that were visible. The first liquid that my eggs were soaked
in was distilled white vinegar. After two days of soaking in vinegar the shell was completely
disintegrated due to the acetic acid in the vinegar. Also, the vinegar had foam at the top with small
white fragments of the shell. When I was done soaking my eggs in vinegar Egg one became 147mm,
Egg two became 138mm, Egg three became 131mm and Egg four became 143mm and all the eggs
had become soft with a pale ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the end of these 2 days Egg one had grown 3mm, Egg two had grown 2mm, Egg three had grown
4mm and Egg four had grown 3mm which was an anomaly because it was supposed to get smaller due
to the process of osmosis. Osmosis is the process in which water molecules are diffused over a
selectively permeable membrane. I noticed while measuring my egg that the yolk was starting to
become more visible and I could see it moving. At this time my eggs were soft and the liquid, water

My First Marking
When my report card gets home im one hundred percent sure that my mom is going to open it.
Because that is what she does all the time. This first marking period I didn t do so great so im sure that
my moms face is going to be the face of disappointment. They will be pretty mad about the grades and
sad. They will probably tell me to give them my phone or that im moving schools. They wouldn t be
pleased with the grades. Im sure that I might give them some excuse about why I got that grade and
how im going to try to do better next marking period. Then they will answer with the same old story
about why they work and that I will never understand and that I will keep on getting bad grades. But
then soon enough like in 3 days it will be forgotten ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My dad hes really serious about me failing school because he didn t go to school. Ever since he was a
child he had to work. He told me that every morning he would wake up take a shower and work on the
fields. After that he would go to school smelling like cow and sweat. When school was done he would
go home eat beans and tortillas and back on the field to work. There was no time for him to do
homework. And for my mom well it wasn t quite the same because she was born in Jalisco which is a
big beautiful city whereas my dad was born in a small village in La Palma, Michoacan. So my mom
was able to go to school. But she went through hell while trying to cross the border she went through
some hard stuff when crossing the border and she was very young. When she got here school wasn t a
problem until she got older and was in highschool she made very poor decisions that made her not
able to graduate from high school. And well my dad he went through hell also I don t know if it was
worse then when my mom came because he never went into details about what he went through. But
when my dad got here it was the same thing like Mexico work. He didn t go to school he started
working there was no time for school. Hes been working most of his life. That s why I want to get a
good career that I can make big money so I can provide my mom and dad a big house in Miami or

The Causes Of Premature Neonates
Introduction
Premature neonates or preterm babies refer to the neonates that are born before 37 weeks of gestation
are over. Given that most of the body organs are not completely developed at this stage, the neonates
have a high risk of developing many complications at birth. A good example of these organs is the
lungs, which completely mature by week 36 of gestation. The surfactant production does not begin
until 20 weeks of gestation age; at this stage of gestation surfactant only present in small amount and
in immature form. The mature surfactant production begins approximately after 35 weeks of gestation
age. Even though the lung has mature surfactant at this stage it is not completely capable of
respiratory function. Therefore, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, even if these methods have managed to reduce mortality in preterm infants, they are
associated with serious adverse effects that may be fatal or contribute to chronic conditions later in life
of the patient.
According to DiBlasi, even in animal models, the conventional methods cause inflammation of the
lungs and sometimes cause injure to the lungs.1 These techniques also cause redundancy in alveolar
growth and also affect the efficacy of surfactant produced in the animal lung.1 This is a good signal
that these techniques may have serious consequences in the neonate. One of the adverse effects of
invasive and mechanical ventilation is ventilator induced lung injury.1 This complication is defined by
the presence of polytrauma (excessive tidal volume) and shear injury to the airways, a condition
known as atelectrauma.1 Insertion of the endotracheal tube into the lungs through the airways also
causes injury to the lungs and the airways, a condition known as endotrauma.1
Insertion of the endotracheal tube through the airways is also a painful procedure that may need the
neonate to be sedated first. According to DiBlasi, insertion of the tube may also cause acute airway
injury, emergencies, an infestation of the airway with bacteria,

The New Civil Rights Movement Analysis
Our individual characteristics and traits are what initiates change and drives society, yet in our society
in which individuality doesn t seem to exist these days. where is an individualist is something what we
call an outcast or not normal. In two articles by Kenji Yoshino Preface and The New Civil Rights
Movement , Yoshino discusses how he believes that people cover or hide their real identity so they
will fit into the so called norms of our society. Yoshino supports his argument by ethos, he also uses
his own personal experiences, he also uses pathos, and he uses examples, facts and data to get his
point across. It is this individuality that fuel society and is present in every aspect of it. Culture, a
significant part of society, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Assimilation leads to us to forget what we would ve rather been, just because we have the want to fit
in. In order not to be rejected, we need to fit in with what is expected of us. Society continuously feeds
us these thoughts so much, that we begin to believe that the only way to live and be themselves is to
be what others want them to be. But really, in order to stay a true self , one would have to be content
with what they are and WHO they are (554). It s never wrong that we are agreeing with society, but
has anyone really thought about it? Who gets decided if something is wrong or right? If there s a right
way to living a life? We are all entitled to our own opinions, and our own beliefs. In The New Civil
Rights , Yoshino talks about the need for civil rights in a society. He also references Winnicot s
distinction of a True Self, the feeling of real of the true identity , and the False Self, the feeling of
unreal or untrue, which Yoshino says works as a middle ground between the reality and True Self
(554). Sometimes we have parts of our True Self that we prefer or feel that we have to hide, and our
False Self is our disguise of it. Of course, hiding it can sometimes mask our sense of identity.
However, being said that, we are still conforming with each other and

Air France Case Study
The deal marked a defining moment in the evolution of the European airline industry.
Jean Cyril Spinetta, CEO, Air France.
Air France Organizational Culture: France is in the air
Air France was founded in seventh of October of 1933 and first airline carrier in France. Its major
hubs are in Charles de Gaulle and Orly airports. They have about 69,553 employees and they travel to
about 204 destinations. This company has well known for its recognition and having a loyal base of
passengers. However, the French management mentality is distinct from the Dutch. The French
corporate culture is more relaxed but still remains hierarchal. According to the article, Harvard
Business Review: The Making of a French Manager, it states that the French has a long tradition of
centralization, of hierarchical rigidity, and individual respect for authority. Top executives strongly
believe that they have the highest position to their intelligence and craftsmanship. According to the
article, Doing Business in France: 8 Cultural Cues That Make (or Break) a Deal, states that France
puts a premium on individuality, which allows for both freedom of opinion and very separate social
and personal lives. This concept of the French is very accurate when it comes to their culture. With
this statement made by this article describes the French being accurately described as a peach culture.

The Tragic Hero Of Sophocles Antigone
I am here at the moment to claim the title of tragic hero in the play Antigone Author by Sophocles. I
would like to start off by saying that it will be very challenging for me to have the passion that I
usually have. But I will still stand in front of you. As I said before I am here to argue the title of tragic
hero in the play Antigone. I could see that some of you are confused by the word tragic hero . No need
to concern for I will tell you. The great Aristotle was one of the earliest men who defined a tragic hero.
His description is not an instruction for what tragedy should be, but it is an explanation of what he
thought tragedy was. According to Aristotle a tragic hero must have these potentials to qualify as one.

In some compliments Creon is seen as respectable but with others as evil. The large fall that Creon
took was the fall from the good grace of being a loved king. According to the book on pages 256 and
257, Your people are beginning to question your decision and are starting to agree with Antigone. This
is the original stage of Creon s dawdling fall from power. His people may see him as a fine leader, but
the people who are under his authority see him as an unfit leader to lead them. He is starting to be
interrogated by his own people which warn of unrest and calamity within his own family. The idea of
him bringing up the rear control of his own ruling, sets the stage for the great fall that this tragic hero
is supposed to come upon.
A tragic hero is hypothetical to either have a character mistake or an error of judgment. In the play,
Creon has two mistakes. He has the character flaw of willful pride and his inflexible behavior and he
has the flaw of making and error of judgment when he passes the announcement. He understands his
character flaw when he states, According to the book on pages 93 and 94, Oh it is tough to give in!
But it is not as good as to risk everything for stubborn pride. This is the view in the story where Creon
understands his mistake and starts to change as Teiresias has told him to. This is significant because he
mentions the struggle he has going against his stubborn pride. The error of judgment is when he
permits the

  • 2. Essay about Generally Accepted Accounting Principles There are general rules and concepts that preside over the field of accounting. These general rules, known as basic accounting principles and guidelines, shape the groundwork on which more thorough, complex, and legalistic accounting rules are based. The Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) uses the basic accounting principles and guidelines as a foundation for their own comprehensive and complete set of accounting rules and standards. GAAP is exceptionally useful because it attempts to regulate and normalize accounting definitions, assumptions, and methods. Because of generally accepted accounting principles one is able to presuppose that there is uniformity from year to year in the methods that are used to prepare a ... One explanation of why firms might choose to put into practice conservative accounting practices lies in efficient contracting theory, for example, conservative accounting can be used as part of a firms strategy to ease the conflicts that arise among the many claimants of a firm s net assets. This is because conservative accounting methods place restrictions on the distribution of those net assets thereby limiting the scope for self serving opportunistic behavior. Conservative accounting can also help in bringing into line the interests of managers and shareholders through its impact on accounting earnings measures that are regularly used in management compensation contracts (Iyengar Zampelli, 2010). The literature on conservatism accounting is very limited. Watts (2003), has suggested that conservatism is related to debt contracts, while Gjesdal Antle (2001) suggest that conservatism is the interaction between income measurement and dividend covenants. Even though conservatism may be most favorable, the result derives from shareholders trading off cash flows in different periods, not from the need to protect the interests of creditors. Another theory used in accounting is that of Materiality. This notion necessitates that accounting centers on material facts and not on facts that are immaterial to figuring revenues. Rumination, Hope and Depression Depression is one of the most common mental health problems encountered by adult men and women (Kessler, Chiu, Demler, Walters, 2005; World Health Organisation [WHO], 2009). Affecting approximately 121 million individuals worldwide, depression is within the top five leading causes of disease and disability (WHO, 2009). Andrade et al. (2003) indicated that the prevalence of depression among adults worldwide ranged between 1.2% and 10% among 10 different countries, with seven of the ten countries clustered between the ranges of 3.5% to 5.9%. Within Australia, 12 month prevalence rates for adults (16 85 years) for a depressive episode was 4.4% and for dysthymia was 1.3%, with depressive disorders accounting for 20.4% of all mental health ... Subthreshold depression has been characterised as the presence of depressive symptoms occurring in individuals who do not meet diagnostic criteria for Major Depressive Disorder or Dysthymic Disorder (APA, 2000; Cuijpers Smit, 2004; Kessler, Zhao, Blazer, Swartz, 1997; Judd, Rapaport, Paulus, Brown, 1994). The movie made some sense more dramatic than they needed to be and other sense that I thought were pretty important in the myth was not in the movie at all. None the less I did not think the movie was all that bad when are you are comparing it to the written myth. Reading the myth before watching the movie might be the best thing, it helps explain some information that helps explain some things in the movie. After reading the myth I feel like the director added the Death to show that Eurydice and Orpheus relationship was failed from the beginning. They never had a chance to be together they were doomed from the start. Apart from Death they also had to deal with Orpheus crazy fiancé (Or ex fiancé but Orpheus never ended things with her) who did not want them together. Mira was the total opposite of Eurydice. Eurydice had a feeling of innocence with her where Mira just seemed to flaunt everything she had. I feel like Mira also could represent the Viper that killed Eurydice in the myth. After she found out that Eurydice pretended to be her cousin to be by Orpheus during the carnival she went crazy and chased after Eurydice. I feel like the main image that showed Mira as the Viper is when she grabbed the giant staple like thing they could represent fangs of a viper. I do not think the director put this scene in the movie for no reason. One aspect of the movie that I liked would be the two little boys. They helped the movie flow and the story seemed to be mostly told from their points of view. I did really like how the end of the movie they seemed to end on more of a happy note compared to the myth. To become vertically integrated, a company trying to enter the strategic group would need to acquire several companies in different areas of the entertainment industry. These acquisitions would be highly capital intensive and very risky for a new entrant. Another barrier to entry is the product differentiation in the strategic group. Each company in the strategic group has certain channels that are considered premium channels. Cable providers are willing to pay more for these channels, which they end up having to charge the end consumer more for. These premium channels differentiate content providers from one another. The content providing business is a highly capital intensive business. Therefore, the capital required to enter the strategic group and compete is extremely high. To calculate the capital required for a new entrant, we first found the average revenue of the strategic group (~$7.5 billion). We then assumed that a new entrant would have to capture about a third of this average to even make an impact in the industry. Taking this assumption into account, we figured that the new entrant would need about $2.5 billion in its first year of operation. Using this revenue, we then calculated the first year expenses the new entrant would incur. • Expenses based upon 3 months (3/12): #61607; Total Expenses (90% of Revenue): $562.5 million • Beginning Assets (based off Viacom/3): #61607; Movie and TV inventory: $329 million #61607; ... • 7. Poverty Causes Of Poverty Madagascar is one of the most beautiful countries in the world. It has such a diverse selection of flora and fauna. The country is known for housing many species of animals that other countries do not. Madagascar has over 200,000 different species of mammals, amphibians, reptiles, etc ( Madagascar Wildlife for Kids ). Their landscapes are absolutely breathtaking, with gorgeous sunsets in the springtime to tie in the beauty. But, then you move along to the towns of Madagascar, and these are the most devastating of all. With Madagascar suffering heavily from poverty, their lifestyle is tragic. Their living conditions are poor, healthcare is almost non existent, jobs are limited, and education is deteriorating. The way in which these people live is truly heartbreaking to see. Madagascar is in major poverty for a number of reasons. One reason the country suffers is because of the past Kleptocratic Rule it endured, which affected its money situation greatly. The previous French Dictator, Didier Ratsiraka, and other workers of the government stole excessive amounts of money from the Aid and Development of Madagascar Fund. This kind of corruption caused friction when the country tried to invest and trade with other countries( Why is Madagascar so Poor? ). A poorly organized government can lead to a poorly organized country, which is another reason why Madagascar suffers. There are only about 5,780 kilometers of paved roads out of the 49,827 kilometers of marked roads the country has. The road conditions, as one can imagine, are dreadful. Cyclones and other types of annual storms are to blame for this. But, to help build and repair roads, the past President, Marc Ravalomanana, helped to repair the damaged infrastructure the country holds. Furthermore, the Madagascar has a very small population of about twenty four million people, meaning that there is not a lot of money being funneled into the government, which can be a leading problem in lack of infrastructure. Lastly, due to the country s shortcomings in the economy, no other country really wants to develop, transport, or sell goods there, which is a problem when it comes to the citizens buying goods. This can also send market prices soaring, if some items ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Importance Of Biblical And Historical Allusions In... Allusions can influence the text in a variety of ways. Biblical and historical allusions are often the most recognizable in literature and can have a variety of impact. Biblical and historical allusions create an embellishment of imagery, characterization, and the manifestation of government. An emphasis seen through allusions is in how imagery is portrayed. Bubbly Creek is described as being constantly in motion, as if huge fish were feeding in it, or great leviathans disporting themselves in its depths (pg 94). Sinclair used a biblical allusion to demonstrate imagery using a leviathan, which is enormous monster first mentioned in later part of the book of Job in The Bible. The leviathan is enormous and has an indescribable amount of strength and can penetrate a double layer of armor. The contents of Bubbly Creek have an equivalency of a leviathan, which shows how much power Bubbly Creek possesses; as well as how nothing else could ever equate to it in size and its unrestrained moves. Another biblical allusion that Sinclair alludes to is the Egyptian plague of flies in the book of Exodus and with the hot weather descended upon Packingtown a veritable Egyptian plague of flies; there could be no describing this the houses would be black with them (pg 104). Sinclair uses this allusion to exemplify how horrid the conditions were in Packingtown, the plague of flies in The Bible is described as being so dense in the Pharaoh s palace and the rest of Egypt was covered and ... He is considered a man of misfortune that comes to him through the error of judgment. (1). The fall of the tragic hero is often blamed upon the characteristic of hubris or excessive pride toward the natural order of things. To the Greeks such conceit to the natural order or in their case the gods, was punished with terrible wrath. In Greek tragedies the hero was often pitied in his fallen plight but not forgiven and instead received a bleak outcome. At the end this ultimately creates a feeling of regret which, in the case of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth, drive them insane. When Macbeth killed Duncan his mental stability was questionable at best. He did things such as visualize a floating dagger and see the ghost of a dead Banquo. Committing such a crime as murder leaves anyone with regret for the rest of their life and that was deeply evident through the play. We can clearly see Macbeth fall into his regret and guilt when he says this quote after killing Duncan, One cried, God bless us! and Amen, the other, as they had seen me with these hangman s hands. List ning their fear, I could not say Amen, when they did say God bless us . Methought, I heard a voice cry, Sleep no more! Macbeth does murder sleep . (Shakespeare 2.2.29 32). The murder that starts with his ambition to become King ruins Macbeth s life and kickstarts his descension into a regret that leads him to a tragic dementia. The word that Macbeth used to say so easily, Amen, all of the sudden became a word that is impossible to say. Macbeth believes that he will no longer have the protection by his God because he had committed such an appalling crime that is unforgivable. Lavoisier declared that in attacking here Stahl s doctrine my object is not to substitute a rigorously demonstrated theory but solely a hypothesis which appears to me more probable, more comfortable to the laws of nature, and which appears to me to contain fewer forced explanations and fewer contradictions (Lavoisier 173). Lavoisier grew support when he released his remarks opposing the phlogiston theory (Perrin 47). In the short story The Painted Door by Sinclair Ross, the author develops this idea in that Ann has to make a decision on her commitment to John, what she decides to do leads her to much regret. Initially, John and Ann are a happily married couple living on a farm, they have been married for seven years. They both adore and love each other greatly, but with John working all the time to pay off the mortgage, Ann starts to feel lonely and trapped. Isolation is already a problem for Ann, and with John leaving amidst the start of a storm, this can only get worse. • 18. John Keegan s The Face Of Battle John Keegan s The Face of Battle and Sir Charles Oman s The Art of War in the Middle Ages provide insight into how historians approach the subject of battle. When discussing warfare, historians typically approach the subject from a procedural point of view, but it has also become normal to focus on combatants experiences. By cross comparing Keegan and Oman s descriptions of the Battle of Agincourt, it is apparent that both the procedural method and the method of focusing on individuals have merit. However, Keegan and Oman s alternate depictions of the battle demonstrate how combining both perspectives give a more complete understanding of the past. Historical writings have evolved from procedural accounts of events to inquisitive reflections on combatants. Focusing on weapons, strategies and generals perspectives the procedural approach quickly provides in depth information, but often in a distorted way 1. It is important to remember a commander s actions and the events of their battles are often exaggerated to support current political goals . According to Document B, the Aztecs made a very advanced agricultural system that used floating islands as plots called Chinampas. This shows how smart they really were to take advantage of the swampy but great soil. Then, they were able to make a food surplus and then create a civilization with religion and other traditions. That meant without farming, they couldn t even do human sacrifice. Also, in Document B, it states Approximately twenty thousand acres of chinampas were constructed [around Tenochtitlan] and the yield from them was high: four corn crops were possible. This shows how agriculturally advanced the Aztecs were, when the Spanish arrived in the 1500 s, the Spanish could only receive three corn crops per year unlike the Aztecs. Although, the Aztecs were able to make their system of chinampas centuries before the Spanish came. The Spanish then invaded the Aztecs Document C also shows very interesting information as well. IN document C, it states THe men at the right plant and harvest the maize, while the women on the left grind and roll it into tortillas. Behind them, there is a person dressed as a corn goddess. This shows the importance of the agriculture to the Aztecs and how they are working so hard at it. They also pray to the goddesses, who would supposedly give them good luck during farming. What Emily means by this is that she wrote a letter to the world, but the world does not know who she is since she never leaves her home. She also writes about what nature has taught her in hopes to teach other people lessons. In the closing of the poem she asks the readers to not judge her harshly on what she has written. The overall theme of this poem is that if people were to judge, they should judge by the truth. She does not want to be judged harshly for separating herself from the world, she just wants to belong. She uses many devices through all of her poems to help convey the overall theme. In the poem This is My Letter to the World, Dickson uses the personification of nature, rhyme scheme, and metaphor to show her overall theme. Schools are considering to erase these long term companions from a student s educational lives once and for all. The question we are asking here is whether or not this is going to be a choice that is worth it. Junk food should not be banned in schools because banning junk food in school cannot guarantee restrictions on junk food outside of school, cutting out junk food greatly decreases school revenue, and the availability of healthier foods does not ensure proper intake of calories. When junk food is banned in school, it does not guarantee a ban everywhere else outside of school. As Radford states, Whether or not junk food is available to them at school may not have much bearing on how much junk food they eat (7). This could be due to multiple reasons. Outside of school, junk food is an inexpensive source that is widely available and any student would have access to them because of how conveniently located they are. Not only are they conveniently placed, they are also served in large portions (Reyman 1). If junk food was banned, these outside locations could then serve as escapes for students from the policies that have been placed. Wilful and wanton injury has been defined by the courts as the conscious and intentional disregard of and indifference to the rights and safety of others, which the defendant knows or should know is reasonably likely to result in injury, damage, or other harm. Estrada v. Consol. Util. Servs., Inc., No. 5:10 CV 161 RLV, 2011 WL 2174467, *2 (W.D.N.C. June 2, 2011) Our client probably wouldn t be ruled to have willfully or wantonly injured the trespassing child as he did not consciously or intentionally injure the child. There is an exception which allows for premises liability in the absence of wilful or wanton injury to a trespasser. The exception is premises liability under the attractive nuisance doctrine. There are two main purposes of the attractive nuisance doctrine. First, the attractive nuisance doctrine acknowledges that children will trespass and may be injured while doing so. The doctrine considers this, and then weighs the interest in protecting children with its second purpose: to avoid an unreasonable burden on the property owner when ensuring their property is safe for trespassing children. These processes include, but aren t limited to, osmosis and diffusion. The experiment I did is an example of eggs being used to show these processes in an experiment called Eggsperiment . To do this I got four equal containers big enough to fit and egg in. Next, I put ¾ a cup of several liquids in the containers with the eggs and checked it every 24 hours over a 48 hour period. I started my egg speriment on October 16, 2015 with 4 eggs. Egg one was 145 millimetre(mm), Egg two was 135 mm, Egg three was 130, and Egg four was 141 mm. They all had similar characteristics; smooth, solid, white, with no imperfection that were visible. The first liquid that my eggs were soaked in was distilled white vinegar. After two days of soaking in vinegar the shell was completely disintegrated due to the acetic acid in the vinegar. Also, the vinegar had foam at the top with small white fragments of the shell. When I was done soaking my eggs in vinegar Egg one became 147mm, Egg two became 138mm, Egg three became 131mm and Egg four became 143mm and all the eggs had become soft with a pale ... Given that most of the body organs are not completely developed at this stage, the neonates have a high risk of developing many complications at birth. A good example of these organs is the lungs, which completely mature by week 36 of gestation. The surfactant production does not begin until 20 weeks of gestation age; at this stage of gestation surfactant only present in small amount and in immature form. Assimilation leads to us to forget what we would ve rather been, just because we have the want to fit in. In order not to be rejected, we need to fit in with what is expected of us. Society continuously feeds us these thoughts so much, that we begin to believe that the only way to live and be themselves is to be what others want them to be. But really, in order to stay a true self , one would have to be content with what they are and WHO they are (554). It s never wrong that we are agreeing with society, but has anyone really thought about it? Who gets decided if something is wrong or right? If there s a right way to living a life? We are all entitled to our own opinions, and our own beliefs. In The New Civil Rights , Yoshino talks about the need for civil rights in a society. He also references Winnicot s distinction of a True Self, the feeling of real of the true identity , and the False Self, the feeling of unreal or untrue, which Yoshino says works as a middle ground between the reality and True Self (554). Sometimes we have parts of our True Self that we prefer or feel that we have to hide, and our False Self is our disguise of it. Of course, hiding it can sometimes mask our sense of identity. He is starting to be interrogated by his own people which warn of unrest and calamity within his own family. The idea of him bringing up the rear control of his own ruling, sets the stage for the great fall that this tragic hero is supposed to come upon. A tragic hero is hypothetical to either have a character mistake or an error of judgment. In the play, Creon has two mistakes.
