The Cuisine Of Hokkaido, Japan
1.0 Introduction
1.1 Introduction
This report introduces the regional cuisine of Hokkaido, Japan. The food of Hokkaido is well known
worldwide because of its high quality and freshness of seafood. Hokkaido also produces dominant
amounts of Japan s meat, wheat and dairy so its cuisine is not just a thing entirely apart from the rest
of Japan s. There are many regional cuisine in Hokkaido including Genghis Khan barbecue, Hokkaido
ramen, Ishikari nabe and so on. Through my research, I find that there are many different cooking
methods that people in Hokkaido use. For example, originally, Genghis Khan barbecue only focuses
on burning and roast lamb and mutton. With more and more southern Japanese into Hokkaido, the
sauce and vegetables are gradually brought into the cuisine to adjust taste. I also find these cooking
methods are interesting, and would like to learn more about the Hokkaido cuisine.

1.2 History
Ancient people in Hokkaido are believed to catch salmon when they swam upstream. They are also
believed to use pots to cook acorn and plants. From 1603 to 1867, Russian and missions from other
countries arrived at Hokkaido but they were not allowed to enter. After 1869, the Meiji government
allowed people from other parts of Japan to immigrate to Hokkaido. These people brought their
different cuisine to Hokkaido. Under these influences, Hokkaido people developed their unique
cuisine by

My Experience Through My Mentorship Experience Essay
Through my mentorship experiences, I have discovered many different things about myself. I learned
that I am good at encouraging others to push themselves. I also realized that I am someone who is goal
orientated and like to have a focus during all my discussions. During every mentorship meeting, I like
to have an agenda for the meeting and a focus for our deliberations. I also like to revisit goals my
mentees had set during the first session and writing new goals, as I measure success through results. I
realized that I am good at encouraging others as over time I have seen my mentees speak more often
and try to communicate effectively without looking for words on their phones. An interesting thing I
discovered about myself through my mentorship experience is that I always thought that since I had
traveled to many places around the world and had a keen interest in learning about other cultures, I
was culturally well rounded. However, conversations with my mentees made me realize that many of
the things I thought I knew about cultures such as Chinese culture were solely concepts introduced to
me from a tourist point of view. My mentees shared stories with me about television in China, and
how the channels they could access were government controlled. They also explained the Chinese job
world to me while discussions ways to write a resume for summer jobs. They told me how children
from wealthy families and upper middle class families are discouraged to do part time jobs, as it

Maggie A Girl Of The Streets Escapism
In Stephen Crane s Maggie: A Girl of the Streets, the grim and realistic details of life in the Bowery
during the 1890s is depicted. Maggie, Jimmie, Mary, and Pete all have different means of temporarily
escaping the challenges they face. Alcohol, apathy, entertainment, denial, violence, and blame are
some of the forms of escapism they rely on. Throughout Maggie, each character s methods of
escapism correlate to his or her ability to survive life in the Bowery. Pete is constantly seeking the best
opportunity for himself. He begins to talk to Maggie because she is one of the prettiest girls in the
Bowery, and easy to win over. However, when Nellie returns and begins to show interest in Pete, he
immediately leaves Maggie for the more appealing woman. This prompt dismissal of Maggie shows
that Pete is apathetic and uninterested in assisting others with their plights. Pete s selfish attitude
allows him to gain exactly what he desires in any situation that may arise. ... Show more content on

As a truck driver, he takes pleasure in running people over, and often initiates fights with family
members and enemies, such as Pete. Most of the fights Jimmie partakes in do not have a clear victor
because the fight was broken up or both parties were injured. It is a selfish act, only hurting all
members involved in the fights. Jimmie gains nothing from the fights. Because they always end in a
draw, Jimmie s social standing is not affected. The fights solely serve the purpose of allowing Jimmie
to release his aggression and hatred for the circumstances he has been dealt, without any

Irish Culture in America Essay
Irish Culture in America
I. Introduction
The history of Ireland is diverse and fact is mixed with fiction. Through the years in which Ireland had
a famine, many people migrated over to the United States in order to have a better life and gain some
prosperity. When they arrived they were met with less than open arms, but rather a whole new world
of discrimination. I will be discussing the summary I have done on the discrimination of Irish in
America today, followed by my reactions, two other Irish blooded reactions, the history, identities, and
transitions, of these people of which I learned through doing this research.
II. Research Summary
The readings on Irish immigrants in America led me to understand the racism and culture ... Show

Not all the Irish drink and the stereotype is false in many cases pertaining to Irish Americans. Another
value of the Irish is uncertainty avoidance, which concerns the degree to which people who feel
threatened by ambiguous situations respond by avoiding them (Martin Nakayama, 2000, 70). This
leads the Irish to prefer to reduce rules, accept dissent, and take risks (Martin Nakayama, 2000, 70).
This can be supported by the massive immigration to the United States during the Potato Famine.
Many Irish took to the seas during this period, and it was a great risk for so many to cross a sea and
enter a world new to them, breaking away from the British power that controlled their lives. This
emigration also demonstrates a sense of free will, which encompasses the need for change and to
continue trying even if you fail. I noticed that the Irish are perceived as a group that works hard for
what it wants and doesn t seem to give in to the norms of society. The new vision of Irish immigrants
seems to be much healthier than that of previous generalizations. The action and doing value, which is
entangled in the values, seems to be present in the lives of Irish immigrants, The young Irish coming
over here today are much more sophisticated, more educated, and more ambitious (Krim Early, 1995,
p.33). There is a definite sense of the contact hypothesis in the Santa Clara Valley, where cultures

Sylvia Plath s Life And Life
I have the choice of being constantly active and happy or introspectively passive and sad or I can go
mad by ricocheting in between. (Goodreads, 2013) This is a quote from Sylvia Plath, a poet who faced
many obstacles in her life including attempting suicide; getting divorced due to lies and infidelity; and
leaving her children behind. Sylvia Plath was born on October 27, 1932 in Boston Massachusetts Plath

PROBLEMS, SOLUTIONS, AND FUTURE OF LAW ENFORMCEMENT INTELLIGENCE
The use of intelligence within law enforcement intelligence agencies is not always perfect. There may
be a way to safeguard against the misuse of intelligence processes to assure proper use it at all times,
but it has not yet been discovered. The only way that agencies can try and control the misuse of
intelligence is to study the historical failures of the past.
It is of most important to protect United States citizens right to the freedom of speech. For the average
American it is hard to understand why the government does not viciously target extremist groups like

There is confusion over these topics which brings the necessity to revisit the basic elements of
intelligence that Intelligence is a specialization, is critical, is measurable, seldom seeks publicity,
targets organized crime problems that are often ignored by other, and require attention to detail.
Many times intelligence can be lost due to hasty deadlines or lack of analyst present. Valuable
information on police reports must be processed in order to maintain and file away for possible future
use, or many times information is passed over phone lines and then not recorded on paper are only a
couple of mistakes that can be made when trying to push to meet a deadline. The analyst must have
time to go over every detail in order to draw a final conclusion and build the best intelligence product.
Another example of a loss of intelligence is most greatly seen in the drug wars. The cartels have a
great amount of money, which is sometimes overwhelming to some police officers that are willing to
look the other way for a price. There is no way to totally avoid the bait that the wealthy cartels can use
to try and find law enforcement officials that will help them out, but through education and morality
training the police officer has a chance.

Graneer Systems
Identification of the Strategic Issue
Graneer Systems needs to determine the attractiveness of the Indian water purification market and
determine the best mode of entry. Graneer needs to determine what life cycle the industry is in, how
many competitors exist and what are their competitive strategies, what are the forces in the broad
environment and how are they going to inhibit or promote market entry. Graneer also needs to
determine the best product design for entering this market and a pricing strategy.

the PureSip, which is sold in appliance stores. Aquaguard is also technologically limited as it is wall

purifying system. The company does not spend on advertising and suffers from lack of brand
awareness. However, it has been in the industry for 30 years and has intense R D investments. Ion
Exchange could capture more market share by increasing marketing efforts. o Singer is a US company

developed by NASA and 100% effective against bacteria, has state of the art design, is portable and
requires only water pressure, and can last 4 to 6 years in the typical Indian household. Singer has
superior distribution channels compared to its competitors, and is an established brand in India. o Unit

Commercial Whaling
Make the case for the resumption of commercial whaling as an international policy. Commercial
whaling has an abundant amount of utilizations. The main utilizations include food use, commercial
use (whale watching), animal feed and fertilizer use, cosmetic use, and pharmaceutical use. While not
popular in most countries, countries like Alaska, Iceland, Norway, and Japan have whale meat on their
menus. There are also other indigenous people and people in Inuit tribes who depend on whale meat as
their main source of food. Within the pharmaceutical field, Russia, Norway, and Japan are counties
that take on studies for the medical uses of whale. Some of these uses are whale oil (omega 3s acid)
and whale cartilage (chondroitin 4 sulfate and proteoglycan). ... Show more content on

In my opinion, every species, including humans, is a part of the food chain. Whether or not humans
are at the top of the food chain isn t what is important when it comes to the relationship between us
and whales. We have the technology and intelligence to kill whales and use them at important
resources, including food, wax (for candles and cosmetics), and pharmaceuticals. We should be taking
every advantage we get to further develop our knowledge of whale oil, meat, and cartilage. I believe
that we should use every opportunity to better our lives, but that does not include kill whales
recreationally. There is no excuse for that, just like there is no excuse for kills of dogs, zebras, or
pandas. Unless it is for survival, no one should be killing an animal for fun. That saying, there is a
point when we will have to stop commercial whaling. The whale population has been an interesting
trend to research. Whale population has been very high and very low in the past couple centuries. My
opinion is that we should have a set number of whales that we can take out of the ocean each year. If
that number starts to cause a decline in the population, it should be set lower. If the population
becomes endangered, I believe that whaling should stop immediately. I could imagine having to
describe to the next generation what a whale looks like because there aren t any to show

Pro And Negative Effects Of Islamophobia
But as we say Muslims empire was scary because it was powerful so in beginning of the eighteenth
century with the decreasing of the Ottomans power and the rapid increase of European empire powers,
Islam was not that much scary anymore and Islamophobia was disappeared gradually.
However, Islamophobia picked up again when these European powers, which were mainly Christians,
decrease again after World War II. While European countries and some of Asian ones and USA were
burning in World War II fire most of the Islamic nations being far of WW heart had time to become
industrialized and powerful in their own right. Also, improvements in healthcare and medical facilities
a sudden increase in Muslims population and migrations of those Muslims were looking for higher

We also learned how harmful can Islamophobia be for both Muslims and non Muslims. The fact that
Islamophobia already exists is not deniable and Islamic radicals are all over the world growing like
cancer especially in Europe. The point that we should keep in mind that all pervious strategies like
civil wars or hate news in media make everything even worse, in my opinion, this time, its west who
should learn from the east. Instead of being afraid of Muslims and Islam west should try to learn about
Islamic cultures and show respect to it while accepting it differences. Also, it will be so effective if
western society shows they are putting difference between radical Muslims and others ones. West
should keep in mind that radical Islam problem cannot be solved without the help of other Muslims so
having peaceful relation with the Muslim community is the key to peace between all Muslim

Anti Retroviral Drugs For Hiv Essay
HIV is a virus that affects all parts of the globe. However, there are two major global epidemics. The
first being in the west and developing countries. In these areas the pattern of infection is found in
certain groups. These groups being drug injectors, gay men and prostitutes (Pisani p. ) This epidemic
is known as the concentrated epidemic . This particular pattern HIV spreads rapidly in a concentrated
groups. This is because you are most likely to pass on the virus when you are in the first stage of HIV.
In a concentrated tight knit group of people who are having several sex partners and sharing needles
with others it is easy for the virus to be transmitted. The other epidemic pattern is seen in east and
southern Africa as well as some parts of east Africa and the Caribbean. This pattern is also known as
generalised epidemic . This pattern is different because HIV is in the general population appose to a
concentrated population.
2. There are three different classes of anti retroviral drugs for HIV: a) The first class of drugs are
called the entry inhibitors. The entry inhibitors inhibit the HIV virus to bind to the T helper cells, also
called the CD4 T cells. In order for these cells to become infected the virus, the virus has to bind and
enter them. If the binding is eliminated therefore the virus can not enter the cell. b) The second is
called, integrase inhibitors. Once the virus has entered the host cell, it replicates it s DNA into the cell.

Stereotypes Essay
To adequately investigate the question as to whether stereotypes are the psychological lubricant on
intergroup behaviour, several areas need to be considered. In the context of this essay the concept of
stereotypes needs to be defined. Although Lippmann (1922) is credited with first using the term
stereotype in this context it is perhaps Brown (1995) who offers the most applicable definition when
he wrote that quot;to stereotype someone is to attribute to that person some characteristics which are
seen to be shared by all or most of his or her fellow group members. quot; (p.83). With this definition

Schaller and Maass point to Social Identity Theory (Tajfel amp; Turner, 1979), and self categorisation
theory (Turner, 1987) as the quot;most coherent contemporary models of motivational biases quot;
(Schaller and Maass, 1991, p.190) in relation to social group membership. One of the key points with
Social Identity Theory is that the very act of categorisation, regardless of group contact, is enough to
produce in group preference and differentiation from the out group. According to the theory an
individual s self esteem is related to his or her social category membership and therefore the
individual seeks to make the social category appear in as positive a light as possible. This group
differentiation can lead to the formation of stereotypes. Turner s self categorisation theory states that
individuals seek to form self categorisations of themselves at many different levels ranging from the
most abstract, as in the perception of the self as human, to the most defined, that of the self as a well
defined individual. As with Social Identity Theory, individuals seek to perceive themselves in a
positive way and seek to establish a positive distinctiveness between the self and other in group

The Interaction Of Glucose And Exercise. The Objective
The Interaction of Glucose and Exercise The objective of this study was to see whether or not exercise
has an influence on glucose levels; If it does, then how much does it affect the levels? What is the
reason that outcome came about? These are just some of the questions that this study hoped to
provoke and shed some light on. Before beginning the experiment, a literature review was conducted
in order to gain familiarity with the topic and to build an expectation for the outcome. Several studies
were research, and it was cited how exercise can be used to help regulate glucose in people with
diabetes. The first study found that 2 3 minutes of maximum exertion over 20 minutes of interval

All glucose levels in this experiment were obtained using a ReliOn Prime glucose meter and the
corresponding strips. The initial baselines were taken before eating breakfast and before drinking any
juice, coffee, milk, or water. Time of measurement ranged from 8:00AM 8:20 AM. After obtaining a
baseline test, ¾ cup of oatmeal with 2T brown sugar and 1T of butter was eaten for breakfast. Coffee
with approximately 2t of half and half was drank at the same time. Breakfast was done being
consumed between 8:40AM 8:50AM. Blood glucose levels were then tested two hours after breakfast,
which fell between 10:40 10:50AM. Again, this exact schedule was followed for each day a baseline
was formed. The graph above illustrates the daily baselines and changes. The preprandial average
blood glucose level was 95 mg/dL . Postprandial, the average blood glucose level was 109 mg/dL. On
an average, the rate of change between the preprandial levels and the postprandial levels was 14
mg/dL. This is a normal baseline for someone who doesn t have diabetes or any other impairment of
the pancreas (Joslin, 2007). For the second step of the experiment, the same procedure as above was
repeated. Except, before eating, twenty minutes of light exercise ( LE ) was performed. Glucose levels
were taken before, ten minutes through, and after the twenty minutes was reached. Light exercise can
vary from arm curls, brisk walking, jogging, or walking stairs. For this particular study,

Analysis Of Enkidu s The Epic
Enkidu s role in the epic explores the idea that humans cultivation of the earth to suit their own needs
will lead to their demise. Enkidu was depicted as androgynous to allow the reader to see themselves in
the journey and allows the narrator more flexibility. Enkidu was described as lush with head hair like a
woman . Gilgamesh recounted a dream to his mother saying, I fell in love with it like a woman I
caressed it . The use of the word it can imply gender is disregarded and allows the narrator the ability
to play with the idea of it being a woman but still leaving room for the masculine interpretation. In
contrast Enkidu was also described as a strong, fearless and great warrior. He was said to have the
strength of heaven, and mighty will be his strength he was also said to be valiant in the steppe which
signifies that he is fearless in the wild, and he would have the force of the hero Ninurta, god of war.
Enkidu s character is androgynous and his journey symbolizes that of man s. The story of Enkidu is
similar to the creation myth of the Bible. According to TheTorah.com part 1 The Midrash Adam like
Enkidu was created from clay and was Androgynous. According to Genesis 5:2 of the King James

The Importance Of Cities In The Roman Empire
The importance of cities during Roman rule was unparalleled. With ever expanding colonization,
decentralization of government was invoked through the delegation of administrative functions to
local elites. Tax collection, military command through instructions, and occasionally acting as an
intermediary between competing local interests were a few roles carried out by these instrumental
leaders. They were the Publicans, of the equites class. These cities were a way for rules to organize
every citizen and also levy taxes to fund their expansion efforts, since most of the taxes went to the
military funds. Benefits in the city outweighed the minimum space you had in suburban areas in the
city of Rome there was a welfare system in place which was not available in smaller towns. Food was
exponentially more expensive compared to housing, and grain subsidies were such an important
institution that when Constantine moved the capital to Constantinople in the fourth century, he
instituted a grain subsidy which fed 80,000 people.1 A substantial portion of scientific breakthroughs
during these periods were deciphered in the city, where capable, well read inventors attempted to solve
the grievances of living in a dense population, and figuring out more efficient means of transportation
of goods. Also, these knowledgeable citizens generally resided in cities, not in suburban localities,
because of the abundance of resources and learning centers. An example of a breakthrough would be

Summary Of Popular Mechanics Of Lamb To The Slaughter
Popular mechanics and lamb to the slaughter
In the story popular mechanics and the story lamb the slaughter I thought it was interesting how they
interconnected with one another it s like to story for the same book just a little difference. The story
lamb to the slaughter was so good but a little crazy with all that happened at once to it was kinda
messed up and disturbing but still a good story. Now the story popular mechanics was more like a
regular messed up divorce or something and with the two idiots were just non stop bickering and
fighting the two adults just would not stop, it started with the wife/ex yell at him to get out and like ok
cool that s probably a fight or something but when he comes back just no why it like u want a fight
and he starts asking for stuff like why just don t, then they like fighting over a baby like just why. The
authors Raymond Carver.
Ok so my thoughts about the lamb to the slaughter is just worse like what is wrong with them they just
take it way too far like she kills her husband for breaking here heart like why and then just acts like
nothing had even happened like ok, later when the cops arrive she acts like nothing happened, like
going to the store acting like she was there when the murder happened cool but the worst parts when
she fed the murder weapon to the cops like omg ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Industries related to the energy have been making efforts to revive the energy sites which have yet not
been explored for the benefit of the human life. Fracking started in 1949 in the United States and with
due course of time it has increased by thousands of times tan its starting point. These sites are related
to the oil and gas industries which are expanding at a rapid pace with the invention of new tools and
techniques which revolutionized the industry specific practices.

Four Aphorism Analysis
Every person capable of thinking and processing has a different set of guidelines and mindsets for his
or her life. These guidelines tend to be words or mottos designed to help guide each individual
through life and/or hardship that may arise. In the short time i ve had in this world, i ve been able to
narrow my thoughts down to four basic principles. One: I believe i am here to learn about and
experience everything this life has to offer. Two: It is important to approach new information openly,
but with some skepticism. Not every piece of information presented to me will be true. Three: harm no

This is a reminder I like to call Comforting Nihilism. Nihilism is believe that meaningless, but there is
another less dreary way to regard it that i find reassuring. Essentially, it is the idea that nothing
matters, so life is limitless. Gandhi sums this up by saying, almost everything you do in life will be
insignificant. But it is very important that you do it. In comparison to the infinity of stars and space
forever expanding in every direction, I am very small. This also means I am small enough that
universe does not hinge on my decisions. I can eat an entire cake, or fail a test, or move to Canada, or
rob a bank. The world will not end if I do something that makes me happy, or make a mistake. At

The Cold War Developed Between The Soviet Union And The...
The Cold War developed between the Soviet Union and the United States in response to post World
War II tensions between the two nations. The U.S. and the U.S.S.R. emerged from World War II as the
only two countries able to propagate their specific social and political systems on a global scale. With
expansive capitalist (United States) or communist (USSR) ideologies and powerful military forces,
each nation feared and distrusted the other. This cultural clash resulted in mutual suspicions,
propaganda campaigns, media battles, and international incidents that brought these two superpowers
to the brink of nuclear devastation. No direct military conflict between the two nations ever ensued;
however, the constant threat of nuclear proliferation held the world s concentrated attention on the two
superpowers from 1945 to 1991. Fueled by modern weapon development, aerospace triumphs, and
spirited Olympic Games, the power struggle was a constant rivalry that permeated all aspects of the
global landscape including sports competitions and mass media. By the 1970s, television viewing
outstripped the motion picture market, but Hollywood continued to produce a wide array of cinema
selections including military, spy, and sports genre films that promoted America s need for a strong,
masculine presence while idolizing the male physique.
During the Cold War era, the USSR sports movement entered the international competition bringing
communist party politics and Soviet society to the front

The Black Lace Fan My Mother Gave Me
Practice Commentary: The Black Lace Fan My Mother Gave Me Eavan Bolland s The Black Lace
Fan my Mother Gave me from her book, Outside History (1990) gives readers the first impression that
the poem is about the value of a fan that has been passed down to her. However, based on the title, the
term black lace raises a sense of mystery and darkness as black lace is not completely see through,
there are spots that need to be filled in. To illustrate the value of the black lace fan, the speaker, who is
unknown, narrates on how the mother received it and also used very vivid descriptions on its
significance. To add to the sense of mystery suggested by the title, the use of him and her instead of
actual names enhances this quality of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The shortness of the sentence, She stood up acts as a sudden pause in the story, as though this abrupt
action has frozen time. In the next few lines, Bolland uses a miserable tone to reflect on the mother s
mood. To emphasize this sense of misery, she uses the three rhyming words, emptying , killing and
lighting , which have the connotations of bitterness and depression. Bolland also uses pathetic fallacy
to reflect on the emotions of the mother, stating that the distance smelled of rain and lightning. The
distance that is mentioned here may symbolize how distant she and her lover is now. At this point, the
readers would feel a sense of pathos towards this character. Hence, the third stanza is a transitioning
phase between her presence of the current situation and her stream of consciousness. As mentioned
before, the mother loses touch with the real world and is engaged in the beauty and delicacy of the
black lace fan. Bolland s use of visual imagery is impressive, as the readers get to have a clear picture
of the texture and details of the fan. The lines that read These are wild roses, appliqued on silk by
hand, Darkly picked, stitched boldly, quickly. make the description of the fan sound much more
interesting as Bolland has used

The Importance Of The Somme On The Home Front
In 1916, the battle of the Somme began, intending to end the war for the allies. It pitted an
unexperienced British army, against a professional German one. It was also, however significant in
many ways. Two of the main areas where the battle of the Somme was significant were in its military
value, and the reactions it caused, on the home front. The battle of the Somme, intended to end the war
that year, had ambitious objectives, it was significant for failing to achieve almost all of these. One of
these was Beaumont Hamel, a fortified village behind the German lines. The Battle plan called for the
village to be taken on the first day. The fact that the village was not taken until the very end of the
battle on the 13th of November, illustrates how much the plan failed. Demonstrating the level to which
the plan failed Private Anthony Stacey reports that this was a death trap for our boys as the enemy just
set the sights of their machine guns on the gaps in the barbed wire and fired . Another objective, Serre,
was not taken at all. In fact, the British staff were so unaware of modern weapons, that they had
cavalry ready to attack after the infantry broke through. This is significant as it shows how
inexperienced the British army was when it came to trench warfare. Had the staff understood the
trench tactics better, they would not have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the Somme entire pal s battalions were wiped out, leading to an entire village losing their
troops in the army at once. For example, at Accrington, where during one week 584 of 720 men were

battalions, so that losses to a village or town were spread

Prejudice And Discrimination Essay
A lot of people understand and have gone through stereotyping, prejudice, and discrimination. Social
Psychologists make a distinction between these by concentrating on either they include emotions,
understanding, or attitudes. Racism is the influence, or reaction, visible feature of this triad. Racism
includes a contradicting approach into individuals situated on their association in a specific
organization. The psychological visible feature is stereotyping. Stereotypes are feelings concerning the
characteristics of specific crowds or associates of those organizations. Prejudice includes attitudes.
Discrimination is bad attitude toward people or organizations established on assumptions and feelings
towards those organizations. An ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Societal beginnings of racism associate the averages in our surroundings, the rivalry that lives
amongst organizations, and the societal unevenness that survive in our planet. For the reason that
classifying occurs commonly and is a beneficial utensil in a lot of forms, every person s civilization is
expected to acquire stereotypes. Ingroup partiality directs to mismatched treatment of the ones that we
have classified just as the outgroup. As well as outgroup uniformity partiality blocks our view on the
dissimilarities inside the outgroup.
Yet our understanding about the traits of these outgroups and how solid our racism is counts on the
specific civilization in which we live in. Racism and stereotypes bear beginnings in the pattern of our
societal organizations. Humans are taught bad behaviors against organizations by acquiring the
standards of their societal background. We are taught from our associates on which stereotypes are
suitable. When participants in one study were led to believe that their stereotypes were different from
those of their peers, those stereotypes were transformed to be more in connection with associate
stereotypes.
Assuming that our societal standards inform us that something on how racist we have to be against
specific organizations. Social norms dictate that we dislike child abusers, terrorists, and members of
the Ku Klux Klan. And these groups are groups we have strong prejudices toward. On

The HR department could hold a meeting with the current supervisors or managers to solicit
nominations and post the job announcement on the company s Share Point Site.
Job Offer Process Upon completion of the interviews and the selection process, the next step of the
hiring process requires the HR Specialist to provide a job offer to the selected candidate. This could be
an interesting and possible risky step. With a large pool of applicants, the organization could offer a
signing bonus and relocation incentives. Due to these positions more skilled and specific, the HR
Specialist must fully understand what the competition has to offer to our applicant. The organization
must be ready and willing to offer detailed benefits, bonuses, and incentives. I would provide a
tentative verbal offer to the applicant. After the applicant accepts the verbal offer, I would draft a
detailed written offer capturing all of the benefits and incentives being careful that not to violate any
local, state or federal laws.
Conclusion
By taking the time to research and understand the different recruitment strategies, this will provide the
organization with the best type of strategy to hire the best qualified applicant.

Hurricane Sandy, which severely impacted their stock sales and purchasing exchanges. NASDAQ had

larger disadvantages that NYSE has when compared to NASDAQ, which had no trouble working past
the storm through their electronic communications model. [IMPACT, MORE INFO] The New York
Stock Exchange utilizes the NYSE Euronext, integrating an electronic stock exchange model with
their in person trading floor model in 2007. This change introduced the NYSE as the first global stock

NYSE floor in person to negotiate the sales and purchase of the stocks. The NYSE is one of the only
remaining stock exchanges where physical interactions are necessary for stock sales and purchases.

Liberalism and Its Key Values
In the study of Liberalism and its key values, those of Democracy and Social Justice have often been
posited as providing the world with an ideology and political philosophy which can guarantee peace
between its adherents. The Democratic Peace has been formulated in order to illustrate a world in
which democratic states do not engage in war between each oth er as fellow democrats live with a
stable and historically unique form of government. This essay shall explore whether it is acceptable
that one can portray liberal democracy in par ticular as universally applicable in a standard form. This
is a central tenet of the democratic peace theory and as such requires questioning to determine whether
or not liberalism is indeed a force peace in world politics. Furthermore, it shall look at many pieces of
postcolonial International Relations (IR) theory, engage with democratic peace theory directly, as well
as some contemporary examples of liberal actions in order to assess the peaceful state, thus far, of
liberalism. It is my argument that although the democratic peace theory does portray the best
intentions of those Liberal States who actively engage in world politics, it is not, howev er, accurate in
portraying liberalism as a whole as peaceful. Instead by accepting and discuss ing the peace between
liberal nations, it fails to highlight and in fact sometimes seeks to hide the more aggressive and
warring actions of liberals against those from outside of the para digm.

A Response To Politics And The English Language
A Response to Politics and the English Language In his essay Politics and the English language , he
states multiple examples of how politicians use the English Language against civilians. When he
wrote this essay, the people surrounding him were overcoming World War II. Due to the timing this
issue wasn t as important to them as it was for Orwell. He wanted people to understand the real threat
Politicians were having on their population. He emphasizes that politicians have learned the best way
to manipulate the general population. They used language that was extremely complicated and
unnecessary in order to control the way we think, talk, and act. Since no one had any idea what these
politicians were talking about; the only reasonable thing to do was to just listen and believe what they
told us. This is why George Orwell felt it necessary to spread his message, even if the main focus was

Essay on The Origin of Baseball
The Origin of Baseball
There is often disagreement about the origin of baseball. For more than 90 years, people have believed
in the myth that Abner Doubleday invented baseball. Baseball developed slowly, and changed with
time, and that is why it is called America s national pastime. Some believe it was a popular game from
England where milkmaids and farmer hands would toss a softball underhand and hit it with a closed
fist. Others even say it was evolved from cricket. From 1905 07, a special investigation was done to
find the beginning of baseball. An old man, claiming to be one of Abner Doubleday s childhood s
friend, swore that he invented baseball in 1839, in Cooperstown, New York (Stewart 5). The fact of

In New York City, a group of young men decided to make the game of rounders more suitable for
adults. There have been records that indicate the game called base ball was played in what is now
considered to be lower midtown Manhattan in 1842. On September 23, 1845, the Knickerbocker Base
Ball Club baseball s first team was formed in New York City. There was no other baseball club that
was more influential than the Knickerbockers. Its founder was a bank clerk named Alexander J.
Cartwright, and the co founder, Dr. Daniel Adams. The Knickerbockers adopted baseball s first
uniform, which consisted of blue pants, white shirts and straw hats. Cartwright and Adams were
responsible for coming up with some of the rules of baseball, although they have been changed.
November 18, 1853 there was a meeting held to decide who should be on the committee to make all
the rules. Dr. Adams, Abraham Tucker, and Duncan Curry were among the ones that were chosen
(Stewart, 6 7). They made up 17 rules, which were: the bases should be home, to second base, 42
paces; and from first to third base, 42 paces, halfway; and from home to pitcher not less than 15 paces.
The game is to consist of 21 counts or aces, but at the end an equal number of hands must be played.
The ball must be pitched to the bat. A ball knocked outside the range of the first or third base is foul.

  • 2. The Cuisine Of Hokkaido, Japan 1.0 Introduction 1.1 Introduction This report introduces the regional cuisine of Hokkaido, Japan. The food of Hokkaido is well known worldwide because of its high quality and freshness of seafood. Hokkaido also produces dominant amounts of Japan s meat, wheat and dairy so its cuisine is not just a thing entirely apart from the rest of Japan s. There are many regional cuisine in Hokkaido including Genghis Khan barbecue, Hokkaido ramen, Ishikari nabe and so on. Through my research, I find that there are many different cooking methods that people in Hokkaido use. For example, originally, Genghis Khan barbecue only focuses on burning and roast lamb and mutton. With more and more southern Japanese into Hokkaido, the sauce and vegetables are gradually brought into the cuisine to adjust taste. I also find these cooking methods are interesting, and would like to learn more about the Hokkaido cuisine. Figure 1 Hokkaido Genghis Khan Source: http://en.visit hokkaido.jp/food/bbq.html 1.2 History Ancient people in Hokkaido are believed to catch salmon when they swam upstream. They are also believed to use pots to cook acorn and plants. From 1603 to 1867, Russian and missions from other countries arrived at Hokkaido but they were not allowed to enter. After 1869, the Meiji government allowed people from other parts of Japan to immigrate to Hokkaido. These people brought their different cuisine to Hokkaido. Under these influences, Hokkaido people developed their unique cuisine by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. My Experience Through My Mentorship Experience Essay Through my mentorship experiences, I have discovered many different things about myself. I learned that I am good at encouraging others to push themselves. I also realized that I am someone who is goal orientated and like to have a focus during all my discussions. During every mentorship meeting, I like to have an agenda for the meeting and a focus for our deliberations. I also like to revisit goals my mentees had set during the first session and writing new goals, as I measure success through results. I realized that I am good at encouraging others as over time I have seen my mentees speak more often and try to communicate effectively without looking for words on their phones. An interesting thing I discovered about myself through my mentorship experience is that I always thought that since I had traveled to many places around the world and had a keen interest in learning about other cultures, I was culturally well rounded. However, conversations with my mentees made me realize that many of the things I thought I knew about cultures such as Chinese culture were solely concepts introduced to me from a tourist point of view. My mentees shared stories with me about television in China, and how the channels they could access were government controlled. They also explained the Chinese job world to me while discussions ways to write a resume for summer jobs. They told me how children from wealthy families and upper middle class families are discouraged to do part time jobs, as it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Maggie A Girl Of The Streets Escapism In Stephen Crane s Maggie: A Girl of the Streets, the grim and realistic details of life in the Bowery during the 1890s is depicted. Maggie, Jimmie, Mary, and Pete all have different means of temporarily escaping the challenges they face. Alcohol, apathy, entertainment, denial, violence, and blame are some of the forms of escapism they rely on. Throughout Maggie, each character s methods of escapism correlate to his or her ability to survive life in the Bowery. Pete is constantly seeking the best opportunity for himself. He begins to talk to Maggie because she is one of the prettiest girls in the Bowery, and easy to win over. However, when Nellie returns and begins to show interest in Pete, he immediately leaves Maggie for the more appealing woman. This prompt dismissal of Maggie shows that Pete is apathetic and uninterested in assisting others with their plights. Pete s selfish attitude allows him to gain exactly what he desires in any situation that may arise. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a truck driver, he takes pleasure in running people over, and often initiates fights with family members and enemies, such as Pete. Most of the fights Jimmie partakes in do not have a clear victor because the fight was broken up or both parties were injured. It is a selfish act, only hurting all members involved in the fights. Jimmie gains nothing from the fights. Because they always end in a draw, Jimmie s social standing is not affected. The fights solely serve the purpose of allowing Jimmie to release his aggression and hatred for the circumstances he has been dealt, without any ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Irish Culture in America Essay Irish Culture in America I. Introduction The history of Ireland is diverse and fact is mixed with fiction. Through the years in which Ireland had a famine, many people migrated over to the United States in order to have a better life and gain some prosperity. When they arrived they were met with less than open arms, but rather a whole new world of discrimination. I will be discussing the summary I have done on the discrimination of Irish in America today, followed by my reactions, two other Irish blooded reactions, the history, identities, and transitions, of these people of which I learned through doing this research. II. Research Summary The readings on Irish immigrants in America led me to understand the racism and culture ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Not all the Irish drink and the stereotype is false in many cases pertaining to Irish Americans. Another value of the Irish is uncertainty avoidance, which concerns the degree to which people who feel threatened by ambiguous situations respond by avoiding them (Martin Nakayama, 2000, 70). This leads the Irish to prefer to reduce rules, accept dissent, and take risks (Martin Nakayama, 2000, 70). This can be supported by the massive immigration to the United States during the Potato Famine. Many Irish took to the seas during this period, and it was a great risk for so many to cross a sea and enter a world new to them, breaking away from the British power that controlled their lives. This emigration also demonstrates a sense of free will, which encompasses the need for change and to continue trying even if you fail. I noticed that the Irish are perceived as a group that works hard for what it wants and doesn t seem to give in to the norms of society. The new vision of Irish immigrants seems to be much healthier than that of previous generalizations. The action and doing value, which is entangled in the values, seems to be present in the lives of Irish immigrants, The young Irish coming over here today are much more sophisticated, more educated, and more ambitious (Krim Early, 1995, p.33). There is a definite sense of the contact hypothesis in the Santa Clara Valley, where cultures seem to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

PROBLEMS, SOLUTIONS, AND FUTURE OF LAW ENFORMCEMENT INTELLIGENCE The use of intelligence within law enforcement intelligence agencies is not always perfect. There may be a way to safeguard against the misuse of intelligence processes to assure proper use it at all times, but it has not yet been discovered. The only way that agencies can try and control the misuse of intelligence is to study the historical failures of the past. It is of most important to protect United States citizens right to the freedom of speech. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is confusion over these topics which brings the necessity to revisit the basic elements of intelligence that Intelligence is a specialization, is critical, is measurable, seldom seeks publicity, targets organized crime problems that are often ignored by other, and require attention to detail. Many times intelligence can be lost due to hasty deadlines or lack of analyst present. Valuable information on police reports must be processed in order to maintain and file away for possible future use, or many times information is passed over phone lines and then not recorded on paper are only a couple of mistakes that can be made when trying to push to meet a deadline. The analyst must have time to go over every detail in order to draw a final conclusion and build the best intelligence product. Another example of a loss of intelligence is most greatly seen in the drug wars. The cartels have a great amount of money, which is sometimes overwhelming to some police officers that are willing to look the other way for a price. There is no way to totally avoid the bait that the wealthy cartels can use to try and find law enforcement officials that will help them out, but through education and morality training the police officer has a chance. The main utilizations include food use, commercial use (whale watching), animal feed and fertilizer use, cosmetic use, and pharmaceutical use. While not popular in most countries, countries like Alaska, Iceland, Norway, and Japan have whale meat on their menus. There are also other indigenous people and people in Inuit tribes who depend on whale meat as their main source of food. In my opinion, every species, including humans, is a part of the food chain. Whether or not humans are at the top of the food chain isn t what is important when it comes to the relationship between us and whales. We have the technology and intelligence to kill whales and use them at important resources, including food, wax (for candles and cosmetics), and pharmaceuticals. We should be taking every advantage we get to further develop our knowledge of whale oil, meat, and cartilage. I believe that we should use every opportunity to better our lives, but that does not include kill whales recreationally. There is no excuse for that, just like there is no excuse for kills of dogs, zebras, or pandas. Unless it is for survival, no one should be killing an animal for fun. That saying, there is a point when we will have to stop commercial whaling. The whale population has been an interesting trend to research. Whale population has been very high and very low in the past couple centuries. My opinion is that we should have a set number of whales that we can take out of the ocean each year. If that number starts to cause a decline in the population, it should be set lower. If the population becomes endangered, I believe that whaling should stop immediately. I could imagine having to describe to the next generation what a whale looks like because there aren t any to show ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Pro And Negative Effects Of Islamophobia But as we say Muslims empire was scary because it was powerful so in beginning of the eighteenth century with the decreasing of the Ottomans power and the rapid increase of European empire powers, Islam was not that much scary anymore and Islamophobia was disappeared gradually. However, Islamophobia picked up again when these European powers, which were mainly Christians, decrease again after World War II. While European countries and some of Asian ones and USA were burning in World War II fire most of the Islamic nations being far of WW heart had time to become industrialized and powerful in their own right. Instead of being afraid of Muslims and Islam west should try to learn about Islamic cultures and show respect to it while accepting it differences. Also, it will be so effective if western society shows they are putting difference between radical Muslims and others ones. • 11. Anti Retroviral Drugs For Hiv Essay HIV is a virus that affects all parts of the globe. However, there are two major global epidemics. The first being in the west and developing countries. In these areas the pattern of infection is found in certain groups. These groups being drug injectors, gay men and prostitutes (Pisani p. ) This epidemic is known as the concentrated epidemic . This particular pattern HIV spreads rapidly in a concentrated groups. This is because you are most likely to pass on the virus when you are in the first stage of HIV. In a concentrated tight knit group of people who are having several sex partners and sharing needles with others it is easy for the virus to be transmitted. The other epidemic pattern is seen in east and southern Africa as well as some parts of east Africa and the Caribbean. This pattern is also known as generalised epidemic . This pattern is different because HIV is in the general population appose to a concentrated population. 2. There are three different classes of anti retroviral drugs for HIV: a) The first class of drugs are called the entry inhibitors. The entry inhibitors inhibit the HIV virus to bind to the T helper cells, also called the CD4 T cells. In order for these cells to become infected the virus, the virus has to bind and enter them. If the binding is eliminated therefore the virus can not enter the cell. b) The second is called, integrase inhibitors. Once the virus has entered the host cell, it replicates it s DNA into the cell. In the context of this essay the concept of stereotypes needs to be defined. Although Lippmann (1922) is credited with first using the term stereotype in this context it is perhaps Brown (1995) who offers the most applicable definition when he wrote that quot;to stereotype someone is to attribute to that person some characteristics which are seen to be shared by all or most of his or her fellow group members. quot; (p.83). According to the theory an individual s self esteem is related to his or her social category membership and therefore the individual seeks to make the social category appear in as positive a light as possible. This group differentiation can lead to the formation of stereotypes. Turner s self categorisation theory states that individuals seek to form self categorisations of themselves at many different levels ranging from the most abstract, as in the perception of the self as human, to the most defined, that of the self as a well defined individual. As with Social Identity Theory, individuals seek to perceive themselves in a positive way and seek to establish a positive distinctiveness between the self and other in group members and between the in group and the ... Lynn Strategies of Human Resources Management (MGMT 5309) Wayland Baptist University Virtual Campus Dr. Barry Evans February 8, 2015 Abstract Five days after graduating highschool, I left my hometown for the United States Navy. The dress code was simple: hair needed to be cut a certain way, creases in my uniforms were to be exact, mandatory clean shaven face and my medals/ribbons needed to be in their proper place and perfectly aligned to standards. Once I retired, reality set it when I assumed the role as a Human Resourcess Manager or Director. Skirt lengths, open/closed toed shoes, cleavage (both front and rear), piercings and tattoos are just a few of the items I was responsible for in regulating at the corporate office. This paper will discuss many of the common dress code issues, legal responsibilities and a bit of personal humor and insight into the ordeal of establishing a dress code policy that will regulate your appearance. In addition, this paper will add some of my trials and pitfalls when establishign policy that might help some of my colleagues who will become Human Resources professionals learn to be realistic and quite possibly compassionate when it comes to preparing a dress code policy. Enkidu was depicted as androgynous to allow the reader to see themselves in the journey and allows the narrator more flexibility. Enkidu was described as lush with head hair like a woman . Gilgamesh recounted a dream to his mother saying, I fell in love with it like a woman I caressed it . The use of the word it can imply gender is disregarded and allows the narrator the ability to play with the idea of it being a woman but still leaving room for the masculine interpretation. In contrast Enkidu was also described as a strong, fearless and great warrior. He was said to have the strength of heaven, and mighty will be his strength he was also said to be valiant in the steppe which signifies that he is fearless in the wild, and he would have the force of the hero Ninurta, god of war. • 16. The Importance Of Cities In The Roman Empire The importance of cities during Roman rule was unparalleled. With ever expanding colonization, decentralization of government was invoked through the delegation of administrative functions to local elites. Tax collection, military command through instructions, and occasionally acting as an intermediary between competing local interests were a few roles carried out by these instrumental leaders. They were the Publicans, of the equites class. These cities were a way for rules to organize every citizen and also levy taxes to fund their expansion efforts, since most of the taxes went to the military funds. Benefits in the city outweighed the minimum space you had in suburban areas in the city of Rome there was a welfare system in place which was not available in smaller towns. Food was exponentially more expensive compared to housing, and grain subsidies were such an important institution that when Constantine moved the capital to Constantinople in the fourth century, he instituted a grain subsidy which fed 80,000 people.1 A substantial portion of scientific breakthroughs during these periods were deciphered in the city, where capable, well read inventors attempted to solve the grievances of living in a dense population, and figuring out more efficient means of transportation of goods. Also, these knowledgeable citizens generally resided in cities, not in suburban localities, because of the abundance of resources and learning centers. An example of a breakthrough would be the ... The Cold War developed between the Soviet Union and the United States in response to post World War II tensions between the two nations. The U.S. and the U.S.S.R. emerged from World War II as the only two countries able to propagate their specific social and political systems on a global scale. With expansive capitalist (United States) or communist (USSR) ideologies and powerful military forces, each nation feared and distrusted the other. This cultural clash resulted in mutual suspicions, propaganda campaigns, media battles, and international incidents that brought these two superpowers to the brink of nuclear devastation. No direct military conflict between the two nations ever ensued; however, the constant threat of nuclear proliferation held the world s concentrated attention on the two superpowers from 1945 to 1991. Fueled by modern weapon development, aerospace triumphs, and spirited Olympic Games, the power struggle was a constant rivalry that permeated all aspects of the global landscape including sports competitions and mass media. By the 1970s, television viewing outstripped the motion picture market, but Hollywood continued to produce a wide array of cinema selections including military, spy, and sports genre films that promoted America s need for a strong, masculine presence while idolizing the male physique. The shortness of the sentence, She stood up acts as a sudden pause in the story, as though this abrupt action has frozen time. In the next few lines, Bolland uses a miserable tone to reflect on the mother s mood. To emphasize this sense of misery, she uses the three rhyming words, emptying , killing and lighting , which have the connotations of bitterness and depression. Bolland also uses pathetic fallacy to reflect on the emotions of the mother, stating that the distance smelled of rain and lightning. The distance that is mentioned here may symbolize how distant she and her lover is now. At this point, the readers would feel a sense of pathos towards this character. Hence, the third stanza is a transitioning phase between her presence of the current situation and her stream of consciousness. As mentioned before, the mother loses touch with the real world and is engaged in the beauty and delicacy of the black lace fan. Bolland s use of visual imagery is impressive, as the readers get to have a clear picture of the texture and details of the fan. It pitted an unexperienced British army, against a professional German one. It was also, however significant in many ways. Two of the main areas where the battle of the Somme was significant were in its military value, and the reactions it caused, on the home front. The battle of the Somme, intended to end the war that year, had ambitious objectives, it was significant for failing to achieve almost all of these. One of these was Beaumont Hamel, a fortified village behind the German lines. The Battle plan called for the village to be taken on the first day. The fact that the village was not taken until the very end of the battle on the 13th of November, illustrates how much the plan failed. Demonstrating the level to which the plan failed Private Anthony Stacey reports that this was a death trap for our boys as the enemy just set the sights of their machine guns on the gaps in the barbed wire and fired . Another objective, Serre, was not taken at all. In fact, the British staff were so unaware of modern weapons, that they had cavalry ready to attack after the infantry broke through.
