Summary Of The Book The Outsiders By S. E. Hinton
In the book The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, she shows us how real friends will always be by your side,
and not leave you when you need them.
When the book starts the main character Ponyboy gets attacked by the Socs. When he is about to get
beat up his fellow gang members come to the rescue, and save him from being beat up by the Socs.
Most people would have just let him get attacked, and try not to get involved, but his gang members
came to his side and fought for him. It said in the text, Then there were shouts and the pounding of
feet, and the Socs jumped up and left me lying there grasping. I lay there and wondered what in the
world was happening people were jumping over me and running by me and I was to dazed to figure it

and the other greasers are going into a big fight with the Socs. Before the big rumble Ponyboy was
feeling sick, but still went to the rumble to fight for the greasers. Darry was trying to convince
Ponyboy not to go to the rumble, but Ponyboy was stubborn and pleaded with Darry. Ponyboy said, I
ll be okay, I pleaded. I ll get hold of a little one, okay? (131).This shows that Ponyboy is pleading with
Darry to let him go to the rumble, and be by their side even when he is sick. He could have stayed
home, and be safe, but instead he is loyal to his gang members and goes to the rumble.Their he got hit
in the head, and was bleeding, but still went with Dally to go see Johnny. Ponyboy said, I reached up
to scratch the side of my head where it d been itching for a while, and when I looked at my hand it
was smeared with blood. (151). Ponyboy is bleeding, and he still goes with Dally to go, and try to help
Johnny stay awake at the hospital. This shows Ponyboy is always at his friend s side and would never
betray them. He could have gone home, but instead he goes with Dally, to go see Johnny, and ignores
his own pain for his friend. This shows he is a real friend. and always at his friend s side.

Beam Project
The goal of the beam project is to design and construct a beam that can hold a given amount of weight
without breaking. The beam is required to hold a concentrated load of 375 lbf on the X axis and 150
lbf on the Y axis. The maximum allowable weight of the beam is 250 grams. The maximum allowable
deflection for the beam is 0.230 in. and 0.200 in. for the X and Y axis respectively. The beam is
required to be 24 in. in length, and it will be tested on a simply supported configuration spanning 21
in. All calculations are to be done under the assumption that the density of basswood is 28 lbm/ft3 and
the modulus of elasticity for basswood is 1.46x106 lbm/in2. Given the constraints of a spending cost
of $10.50, a maximum beam weight of 250 grams, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When tested, the actual weight of the beam was 210 grams, the beams deflection on the x axis came
out to be .169 in. and the y axis deflection came out to be .137 in. In the calculations for the design of
the beam, it was calculated that the beam would weigh around 233 grams however it turned out to be
nearly 23 grams lighter. One reason why the beam may have been so much lighter is because the
actual density of the wood may have varied from the theoretical density. Since wood is a natural
product, it is not possible to determine the actual density unless the density was calculated
individually for each piece of wood which was not done in this experiment. The fact that the beam
was lighter than anticipated may have also accounted for a higher deflection than what was calculated.
The deflection of the beam was expected to be .1086 in. with a 20% safety factor included however
the actual deflection ended up being .169 in. which could have been caused by the fact that the wood
was not as dense as expected. It may have been possible to achieve a higher efficiency factor by using
a different proposed beam that weighed less than the one used however that would have risked a
significant increase in the deflection. It also would have been possible to achieve a lower deflection
however that would potentially lower the efficiency factor because it would have required larger,
heavier pieces of lumber. The fact that the materials used for the project were limited to coming from
the 1201 lumber yard and the fact that the modulus of elasticity and density of the wood were assumed
could all be reasons as to why there were differences between the theoretical and experimental values.
One way in which it may have been possible to achieve test results that were closer to the calculated
results would have been to calculate the true density of the wood. Another way to possibly enhance

The Impact Of Deforestation On The Environment
According to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), an estimated 18 million
acres of forest, which is roughly the size of the country of Panama, are lost each year. Undeniably, the
deteriorating environmental situation, the increasingly severe pollution of the atmosphere, and water,
the severe damage to the living environment of wild animals and plants, the extinction of many
species, the deforestation and the transitional mining of mineral resources caused contrary facts.
Human existence and development have brought real and more serious potential threats. The scarcity
of environmental resources is manifested gradually. As environmental issues are becoming a
bottleneck restricting economic growth, it is imperative that lousy effect governed the environment.
People have finally realized that man and nature should be interdependent and that the economy and
the environment must develop together. All of the negative impacts on the environment have either
direct and indirect adverse effects on the long term economy. Deforestation not only affects the
environment, but it also negatively affects the long term economy as seen through impacts on forest
ecology, timber production, and intangible goods.
Forest is one of the subunits that deforestation had influenced on. The government cost was
significantly influenced by deforestation in the forest. According to the BBC news, a new study
estimated that the annual cost of forest loss for the global economy is

You can innovate the promise you are making, you can innovate the products you deliver, or you can
innovate with different communication channels in how and where you have dialogue with your
customers around that product, (McReynolds, 2012) Procter amp; Gamble the makers of Pampers,
introduced this product in 1961 and currently holds about 35% of the global market. They were the
first to introduce the disposable diaper. Proctor and Gamble also have several other billion dollar
brands such as Tide Laundry detergent and Crest toothpaste. This variety of products that continue to
meet consumer needs for over a hundred years stems from the pipeline of its organizational structure.
A.G Lafley states in an article featured in Strategy +Business that they have the ability to
systematically convert ideas into new offerings that alter the very context of the business. (Lafley,
2008) Proctor amp;Gamble has a larger platform of brands to be innovated in than Kimberly Clark.
Kimberly Clark focusing on meeting consumer needs thorough changes and ways of improving the

Women s Civil Rights During World War II
After years of Civil Rights Movements and Pay Equity Acts, as of 2014, women still only make 79
cents to a man s every dollar. Although the wage gap has shrunk since the 1970 s, progress has
recently stalled and chances of it vanishing on its own is unlikely. The gains that American women
have made towards labor market experience and skills is tremendous. In fact, women account for 47%
of labor workforce and 49.3% of American jobs. But despite of women s strides, a gender pay gap still
exists. Experts suggest that it will take 100 years to close the gap at the rate employers and legislators
are working to create solutions. But by allowing women to work in higher paying positions and by
proposing and updating pay equity laws, the gender gap can finally be diminished.
Women s Civil Rights has always been an issue around the world. During World War II, women began
working while the men were away at war. Once the men came back, the pay wage began between men
and women. According to researchers, Beth Rowen and Borgna Brunner, between 1950 and 1960,
women who had worked full time jobs only earned around 60 cents to every dollar that their male
counterparts earned. It was not until June 10, 1963 that the Equal Pay Act was passed by President
Kennedy making it illegal for employers to pay women less than men in the same job title. In order to
further progress of pay equity, Rosa Cho from Re:Gender.org, also found that President Kennedy
proposed a Civil Rights Act to prohibit

The Secret History Was Written By Procopius, And Emperor...
Theodora was the Empress of the Byzantine Empire from 527, when she was crowned, until her death
in 548. Procopius was the appointed historian to record what was happening in the Empire, but mostly
to focus on Theodora and Justinian. The Secret History was written by Procopius, but not published in
the West until about a millennium after it was written. As it was a venomous pamphlet of dubious
merit , The Secret History is hardly a reliable historical source. It criticises Justinian and Theodora for
all of their actions as Emperor and Empress, as well as create a story, possibly based on nothing, about
the origins of Theodora. While Procopius is considered a significant historian for the sixth century, it
is notable that his treatment of Theodora is biased in an unfavourable way. Procopius adopts a
perceptibly hostile attitude toward Theodora. Much of this bias against Theodora can be explained by
Procopius view of women in power and gender roles.
As a woman in Roman society, Theodora would have been married and her life controlled by her
husband. As a woman in the imperial court, Theodora s power and influence over the general public
would have been restricted. Even with the limited public influence, there were ways for women to
demonstrate authority. One of the most common and traditional ways that women demonstrated power
in the sixth century was imperial patronage. Imperial patronage could include building a home for the
poor or a lavish church, having a cross

A Report On Car Sharing Vehicles
with vehicles located in neighborhoods, are rented by the hour,
The current transportation market offers consumers many options for purchasing an automobile, but
fewer practical options for using a vehicle occasionally.
This contributes to several problems:
It results in inefficient use of valuable assets. Many private automobiles are used only a few hours per
week. These low annual mileage vehicles have high costs per vehicle mile.
It increases vehicle use. Because cars are expensive to own but cheap to drive, owners have the
incentive to maximize their use. This increases external costs such as traffic congestion, facility costs,
accidents and environmental impacts.
Some low income households cannot afford to drive at all, or they spend an excessive portion of their
budgets own vehicles they only need occasionally. This is a financial burden and contributes to
problems such as uninsured driving.

How To Build A Rocket
This is my 9th year in 4 H. After several years of food projects, showing sheep, and building rockets, I
have built one of my most challenging rockets yet. I will talk about the challenges of the rocket, what I
have learned and how the flights went.
This was a difficult rocket to say the least. It was made challenging by the fact that the fins, which
needed to be rounded, were very thin or very curved which caused possible miss sanding of the fins.
Along with this, I came across a point in which I could decide between two ways of constructing the
rocket. I could either have it separate at the nose cone, or at the AV bay which I decided to put in. I
chose to have it separate at the AV bay because the electronic were kept safer that way.

The Active Audience On Pop Culture
The Active Audience
In modern communication, there are various types of culture. The most widely known of these types is
pop culture. Pop Culture in short, is every meme, perspective, image and phenomena that are within
the mainstream of a culture which has created an active audience. This active audience has a role in
pop culture as to how it creates and defines music, movies and race in popular culture.
In a culture, there will always be an active audience in the music industry. In the article Mix it up , it
shows us how the original song from the past is then is then somewhat recreated by the active
audience as an homage. An example is the song Tainted Love and Where Did Our Love . To clarify
both of these songs combined to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this case, it s Elvis Presley and Big Mama Thornton where Big Mama Thornton originally recorded
Hound Dog to which Elvis Presley s overshadow s Big Mama Thornton original version. For this
reason it depends on which audience the artist wants to attract because Elvis Presley attracted young
teenagers during the 50 s and 60 s and this was during the post World War II baby boom from 1946
1964. To conclude the lively audience is both the consumer and producers when it comes to the music
industry
Movies were a relatively a recent addition to popular culture only beginning at about a hundred years
ago. The reason why it s part of pop culture is the fact that it s an active audience. For example in
Steven J. Ross article, he wrote that by 1910 26 million people, nearly 30% of the American
population when to go watch movies per week and by 1920 it became half of the population. This
shows that their action made the film industry a staple in pop culture from it early beginnings.
Additionally, the active audience can control if the film be part of the mainstream or not. For instance
in order for a film to be mainstream a large group of followers must come with this. An example
would be the Star Wars franchise more specifically the title for the new movie. In the article The Force
Awakens? Star Wars fans wish it was literally anything else . The audience discusses have mix

Electoral College Research Paper
The electoral college is the process to elect a president by a votes from states. (American Government:
Institutions Policies.) Each state is given the amount of votes, to an elector, based off the number of
representatives in Congress. The minimum amount of votes are three, while the maximum amount of
votes are fifty five.(The Founding Fathers; a Reform Caucus in Action) States are allowed to choose
the electors in the method they see best. Most states, with the exception of Maine and Nebraska, use a
winner takes all system.( The Electoral College: Enlightened Democracy. ) In this process, the
candidate who won the popular election is given all of the electors of that state. Unlike the popular
vote, a candidate must gain the majority ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The process to create an amendment to repeal the Electoral College will take too long to create
change, as the most common way to change the Constitution is to have two thirds of the House to pass
the proposal, and then have the Senate approve the proposal. Afterwards, it would be sent to the states
for a vote, in which it must be approved by three fourths of the states. (Some Thoughts on the
Electoral College: Past, Present, and Future) This process will take too much time. Additionally, those
who oppose abolishing the Electoral College will try to stop the proposal from advancing. Many
politicians, believe that the Electoral College is very important to the way the leader of the country is
chosen, and that it has barely any faults. In this fashion, representatives who believe in the Electoral
College will not let it be destroyed. The Electoral College will never be abolished, even though it
should, because the process to remove it is too time consuming, and many believe that it is an crucial

Essay On Integrated Water Management
New Changes Experts have generated many experiments in order to help the world establish a better
living environment. In the online article, Reducing sewer corrosion through integrated urban water
management, it talks about how there is one way cities try to pick up wastewaters that is through the
sewer system, take all the dirty waste. These pipes are set up all around the city to transport this water
quickly and effectively throughout the city, this helps the city stay a bit cleaner and help physically by
reducing health problems for the whole population. However, having all these pipes around the cities

now its causing them to lose more money than making any profits. That is why they are trying to
convince them to switch to sulfate free coagulants. Meaning that expenses would be reduced as well
as the cost of corrosion and the damages it caused. Scientists are just trying to look for the best option
to help with the clean drinking water process so everything can work smoothly. All authors mention
that, There are three ways for sewages to have sulfate industrial or human waste discharge, sulfate
added as counter ions of aluminum, iron salts used as coagulants in water treatment, for water
drinking production. The coagulants is what is added to the water to make it clean and drinkable as
well as it makes it safe to drink and not cause any diseases, most likely sulfate and chloride and also
referred as aluminum and iron are the salts used which make water very clean. In this research
chemistry is being used because of the iron salts and aluminum as well as sulfate and chloride these
are the elements being used as well as ions, meaning chemistry is involved in the purification of
drinking water and when taking the water wastes. Some methods they did were tested in Queensland,

First Generation Sequencing ( Ngs ) Technologies
Advances in next generation sequencing (NGS) technologies have offered new and practical
approaches for crop breeding; 1) whole genome resequencing (WGR), 2) genotyping by sequencing
(GBS), 3) genome wide association studies (GWAS), and 4) genome editing technologies (GET). The
cost and time for sequencing and genotyping have continuously and dramatically decreased by the
developments of diverse high throughput platforms. The extensive production and active utilization of
genomic resources including genomics tools and resources for crop breeding programs created a new
term, genomics assisted breeding (GAB) (Varshney et al. 2005). The landscape of soybean breeding
programs has been accelerated along with advance in the genomic era. Advances in NGS technologies
have taken the implementation of SNPs for genomic and genetic studies and NGS has become a
turning point for next generation breeding programs due to its reduced sequencing cost (Kim et al.
2016).
Whole genome resequencing (WGR)
Resequencing of elite cultivars, landraces, and wild genotypes based on the Williams 82 reference

Symptoms And Treatment Of Bipolar Disorder
It seems every day that goes by we hear someone being labeled as bipolar or another celebrity is
getting diagnosed as being bipolar after their spurts of erratic behavior. I had to ask the question, does
anyone really know what it means to be bipolar? Bipolar disorder, also known as manic depressive
illness, is a brain disorder that causes unusual shifts in mood, energy, activity levels, and the ability to
carry out day to day tasks (NIMH). Suffering from bipolar disorder can mean suffering from drastic
changes in mood from one minute to the next. This illness can make getting through the simplest daily
tasks impossible and can even cause the person suffering to become suicidal. There are typically three
states that a person with this illness will experience; manic, depressive and mixed states. This illness is
typically diagnosed in late teens to early twenties and is treatable, but will usually last a person s entire
life. At this time there are no medical tests or exams performed to determine if a person is suffering
from bipolar disorder. Usually a trained mental health professional can determine the diagnosis after
evaluating the person. Bipolar disorder can run in families, although there are some relating factors,
scientists have not yet determined any keys in genetics as far as passing the illness on. The first of the
three states is the manic state. In this state a person may feel extremely joyful or overexcited. A person
suffering from this illness may

Shakespeare s King Lear And The Great Gatsby
Personal gratification is commonplace in society, but the force to overcome it is not. In both
Shakespeare s King Lear, and Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby, man s natural psychological id is
displayed by key characters, who are all morally corrupt. King Lear has 2 distinct sides who represent
the id and superego, battling over justice in a kingdom centered around a weathered king. In The Great
Gatsby, a commonplace working man by the name of Nick Carraway surrounds himself with friends
who indulge themselves in luxury, influenced by the psychological id embedded deep within
everyone. When observing family dynamics, both King Lear and The Great Gatsby reveal family
interactions are driven primarily by the id, which is further supported when considering the presence
of oedipal dynamics in both novels. In terms of narrative events, The Great Gatsby s events are
heavily influenced by the id, with little to no superego expressed. In contrast, while the bulk of King
Lear s storyline is similarly driven by the id, the superego plays a larger role in resisting the id s
unlawful desires, and this is exemplified through the triumph of the superego at the story s end. The
Great Gatsby depicts how life is hopelessly overridden by human s natural id while King Lear
demonstrates how even the smallest source of superego can combat the aggressive nature of the id
present in life.
In both King Lear and The Great Gatsby, the id is influential in most family interactions. For instance,

The Ukraine Crisis In Ukraine
Essay A
Introduction
On November 21, 2013, the then president of Ukraine, Viktor Yanukovych, suspended the
preparations for the implementation of a publically supported association agreement with the
European Union. As the result of Yanukovych s decision, public protests erupted in the capital city of
Kiev. After months of unrest, the protestors managed to oust Yanukovych, who fled to Russia for
asylum. Following Yanukovych s ousting, social unrest erupted around the country, especially in the
Russophone eastern and southern regions of Ukraine. As the social unrest quickly evolved into a
political crisis, Moscow moved to secure its interests in the country. Russian military intervention in

employees to flourish and grow in knowledge, it can also have a negative effect on the employees and
the business. Unless employees are given time to take classes during work, they will be taking classes
outside of work, which can lead to them being stressed and overwhelmed. Employees will be putting

Important Elements Of The Professional Life
Important elements of the professional life
Social sustainability, culture influences and business ethics are always related to our daily life as well
as our career life. In this paper, I will handle three different reflective pieces which are why a business
ought to be concerned about social sustainability, how the lack of cultural understanding might impede
a professional career and the relevance of ethics in my professional life.
Why a business ought to be concerned about social sustainability

generations, inquiry and learning, recreation and creativity as well as health and well being
(Desjardins McCall, 2014).
Nobel Laureate Amartya Sen developed the social sustainability framework which is a basic structure
that is laid out by the company in order to enable it to achieve its goals and social sustainability.
Moreover, this framework has four dimensions that include equity, diversity, maturity, governance and
democracy, social/interconnected cohesions as well as the quality of life. When the four dimensions
are implemented in the business, it is able to achieve a high social sustainability (Shaw, 2016).
An example of a sustainable business is the forest stewardship council which is a company that was
founded in 1933 in Bony in the country of Germany. Its primary focus is to provide a global
sustainable forestry. This company has worked smart over the years to give education to the citizens
regarding the benefits of maintaining the forests and some of the benefits include clean water and air.
Besides, this company also discourages deforestation, global warming, and illegal logging. This

Key Contributions: Helps keep cities clean which boosts the quality of life.
4.2.2. Power and Energy Distribution
Many cities are trying to adopt smart grids to efficiently manage distribution of energy. Currently the
main source of energy is coal and fossil fuels. Technological advances have not yet reached the stage
where renewable sources of energy can sustain life globally. It has been estimated that by 2050, the
world s fossil fuel might get completely depleted. Hence it is important to conserve energy and use it
efficiently. Smart sensors can be installed in offices and homes to make sure lights are switched off
when no motion is detected in a room. Similarly, smart grids can analyze power consumption in areas
to detect anomalies in power usage.

Taking a Look at Big Data
The amount of data in our world has been rapidly increasing and analyzing these large data sets, or big
data, has become crucial for businesses in increasing their success. Many businesses use big data to
model their business structures, control processes, and run the business. The availability of this data
leads to a more accurate analysis of the target market. More accurate analyses lead to more confident
decision making and better decisions means greater operational efficiencies, cost reductions and
reduced risk. There are many ways in which big data can be successfully implemented in an
organization. Big data allows businesses to segment their target market, creating more precisely
tailored products and services. Big data is also used to conduct controlled experiments to make better
management decisions. Finally, big data can unlock value by making the captured information
transparent and usable at much higher frequency (Manyika, Big data: The next frontier for innovation,
competition, and productivity ). Currently, businesses are so overwhelmed with the sheer size of
information that big data collects that they fail to successfully utilize this data. Businesses are
increasingly turning to big data based visualization tools to better utilize this information.

Yoga and the Mind

connection between the health benefits associated with yoga having to do with the body, power
strength, balance, flexibility. Few people are aware of the multiple benefits it can serve for the brain

yoga? Yoga can supposedly improve depressive symptoms and immune function, as well as decrease
chronic pain, reduces stress, and lower blood pressure. These claims have all been made by yogis over

is supported by scientific research. (psychologytoday.com) The main struggle in yoga is to overcome
the challenge, each pose is challenging, and your goal is to breathe and remain calm throughout the
struggle and to find your inner peace and keep going. This is a strong concept to conquer; the mind of

it is the process where one benefits. Studies have shown a correlation between yoga and how one

so that people could go there for blood testing.
2. Import ban and mass slaughter of chickens
Since H5N1 was found in the blood samples of some of the chickens, all chickens had to be removed
from Hong Kong to prevent the spread of the disease. On 24 December 1997, the Agriculture and
Fisheries Department (AFD) banned all chicken imports from the mainland. And on 29th of the same
month, the AFD started to slaughter all the chickens in local poultry farms and market stalls.
It was criticised that the mass slaughter was too late because H5N1 had already killed 2 persons. Since
the AFD overlooked the difficulties of the mass slaughter, the proposed 24 hour operation finally
turned out to be a 3 day one. The AFD claimed that their staff had no experience in slaughtering and
thus made the slaughter process much more time consuming.
In the slaughter process, chickens are gassed to death by using carbon dioxide (CO2). Due to the lack
of CO2 in Hong Kong, gassed to death process was inefficient. In addition, some

Comparing Heart Of Darkness And The Secret Sharer
Heart of Darkness Literary Analysis
In comparing Heart of Darkness with The Secret Sharer, one would most likely notice the many
similarities between the two main characters. The captain in The Secret Sharer and Charlie Marlow
both mention their dark sides . They fight against this alter ego and try to be more philanthropic and
gregarious. Marlow feels pity for Kurtz when he finds him dying, much like the captain feels when he
gives Leggatt the white hat. They also compare themselves to people they do not tend to resemble.
Leggatt and Kurtz are also extremely analogous. Most would concur that Kurtz is not a good person.
He treats the natives terribly and becomes worse than the people he demeans. Leggatt is a murderer
and seems like the anti protagonist throughout the entire story. They get away with their terrible sins in
the end. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is not much disparate from the ending of Heart of Darkness in which Marlow lies to Kurtz s
fiancé. Considering that the two books were only published eleven years apart, it is not unpredictable.
Still eleven years can harbor a plethora of changes in a society. The endings show that society let
people assume information about others. Instead of letting Kurtz s fiancé know what was actually
happening in Africa, he preserved her idea of the amazing man that Kurtz was. This is an example of
racism in that time period. The captain lets a murderer escape his ship because he felt sorry for him,
because he did not think Leggatt deserved to be caught. Justice did not catch up to either of these
characters. This could show that in that time period people did not really care what others

1692 Salem Witch Trials
Far too often in history, a person s negative or evile views have influenced others to commit terrible
atrocities. In the 1930s, Adolph Hitler hated the Jews and blamed them for the declining economy,

Billy Mitchell Analysis
Billy Mitchell was an Army Brigadier General and a famed aviator, considered by many to be the
father of the United States Air Force, he was one of the loudest proponents of air power after World
War I. He is also one of the most polarizing figures in aviation. People argue how helpful he actually
was to the development of US aviation. William D. O Neil, argues that his campaign to promote
airpower was handled the wrong way. His use of scare tactics, embellishments of fact and prediction,
and his confrontational attitude actually limited his ability to compromise with other branches and
effectively sell his ideas. An author in support of Mitchell, Robert Burlingame, stated that World War
II was the proving grounds and vindication of Billy Mitchell, that he could not have acted any other
way, and his loud voice kept him in the minds of all those who heard him, making sure his ideas were
not forgotten. In this paper, the argument of critic, William D. O Neil, will be analyzed along with the
advocate, Robert Burlingame will be presented, both sides will be evaluated, and then a synthesis will

making. Thus pressure one feels from peers and the persistent exposure to the act can cause the
individual to eventually indulge in underage drinking for social acceptance. The struggle to fit in is
always a constant issue amongst our teenagers in this generation. And underage drinking has been a
status qualifier that signifies a person s dominance and liberation. This is why most peers would
encourage themselves to engage in such habits. Apart from that, without proper guidance and
supervision from parents or guardians, teenagers most likely are at risk to engage in underage
drinking. Without the reinforcement, they will grow up to believe that such habit is a form of mere
socialization and not a fatal grip for their future. Guidance is truly relevant. Without it, one day you
may realize the effect of underage drinking is very much morbid or worse, irreversible. Lastly, a
negative family environment is truly a major factor that molds a teen s young mind into what is
socially acceptable and what is not. If alcohol drinking is freely displayed at home, then this kind of
notion is most likely hardwired on the teenagers subconscious mind causing him/her to be very much
okay with the set up. A negative family environment will most likely cause the individual to engage in
negative coping mechanisms: such as underage drinking. Based on the data the researchers have
collected and the survey conducted, the researchers conclude that social factors strongly influence the
alcoholic tendencies of selected Engineering students because of peer pressure, lack of guidance and
negative family

Comparing Latency Periods And Amplitude Periods
COMPARISON OF LATENCY PERIOD AND AMPLITUDE OF TWO SIMPLE SPINAL REFLEX
PATHWAYS AND THE INFLUENCE OF THE JENDRASSIK MANEUVER ON EACH
RESPONSE
Jacob Simmons, Adam Middleton, Hamilton Moore, Max Smith, Trey Dickinson
University of Mississippi, Dept. of Biology, University, MS. 38677
A simple spinal reflex is a reflex involuntary, graded, patterned response to a stimulus that is produced
via a single synapse between sensory axons and motor neurons and confined to the spinal cord. In this
experiment, two simple spinal reflexes the myotactic reflex and the H reflex were stimulated. We
compared a) the latency period the amount of time between a stimulus and the effector response and
the amplitude magnitude of an electrical signal of each reflex; then, b) the effect of the Jendrassik
Maneuver (JM) upon the latency period and amplitude of each respective reflex. For the myotactic
response, a mechanical stimulus, a sharp strike of the patellar tendon, was utilized to elicit a signal in
stretch receptors; however, to trigger the H reflex, an electrical impulse was applied. These reflexes
originate from an action potential produced by a sensory neuron when a stimulus is applied. Sensory
neurons transmit the action potentials to an integrating center the spinal cord where a response is
determined. Then, this response is taken back to the effector organ via motor neurons. The reflex
occurs while the brain is becoming aware of the stimulus. Furthermore, the myotactic reflex is

Essay on A History of the 714th Tank Battalion
A History of the 714th Tank Battalion, 1942 45
The men of the 714th Tank Battalion served their country in its greatest time of need. A key element of
the 12th Armored Division, the 714th fought in harsh conditions against a desperate German enemy
for five consecutive months, driving the Nazi Armies from France and back into the German
heartland.
The 12th Armored Division was activated on 15 September 1942 at a freshly built Camp Campbell,
Kentucky, and soldiers from across the nation began arriving to fill the division s ranks on 24 October
1942. The governors of both Kentucky and Tennessee participated in the activation ceremonies, in
which Major General Carlos Brewer was named commander of the forming division.

Here they learned to do low level maintenance on their equipment, while conditioning themselves by
long, forced marches and competitive athletic programs within the 12th Armored Division.
The 12th Armored began division sized maneuvers on 27 April 1943, and Camp Campbell was used
on the 16th and 17th of July, 1943, to stage the Division s first corps level problem with the IV Corps,
Second Army. The 12th Armored had been assigned to IV Corps the previous month.
In August 1943 the 12th Armored Division executed two exercises in preparation for the Tennessee
Maneuvers, which were to start in September. The first was a crossing of the Cumberland River, an
amphibious operation lasting approximately four days. The second exercise, involving four days of air
ground tactical training, developed upon the Division s return to Camp Campbell The various units of
the 12th Armored began to move south for the Tennessee Maneuvers on 3 September 1943. The 12th
participated in eight of the Tennessee Maneuvers operations, which lasted from 6 September to the
first of November, 1943.
After the Tennessee Maneuvers the Division was reassigned to Camp Barkeley, Texas, and ordered to
streamline its forces. Major General Carlos Brewer removed the regimental organizations in the
division, and replaced them with smaller, self supporting battalions. The smaller battalions were
preferred over regimental

Representation Of Christianity In Beowulf
Representation of Christian Theology in Beowulf is uncanny all throughout the story. Although, the
story of Christianity may not be what some people pull out of this story, there is some evidence that
Beowulf may be the same, or resemble God. Throughout the story, Beowulf is faced with Monsters
and Creatures that threaten his people s safety. These creatures being so evil and cruel, could be
represented as Satan himself. As the story progresses the portrayal of Beowulf makes him out to be
almost immortal and Godlike. Nevertheless, Beowulf and Christian Theology have many
corresponding themes.
For Instance, the first monster Beowulf is to face up against is hated and despised by the whole town,
he s described as to be Bearing God s hatred (Pg.1). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Everyone cowered at the thought of fighting this dragon, except Beowulf. This bloody battle, stand
when the fighting is Done. No one else could do What i mean to, here, no man but me could hope to
defeat this monster. (Pg.6). Beowulf still thinking he has it in him to defeat this monster, even though
he is old and tired, gets up and matches straight towards the tower. This is like even though God did
not have to do all this things he did, but he still did them for his people. When Beowulf gets to the
tower, you see that Beowulf is no match for this monster. And for the first time in his life that famous
prince fought with fate against him, with glory denied him. (Pg.7). Beowulf for the first time if
fighting for his life, before that day Beowulf had everything on his side. The monster soon wrapped
around in swirling flames a king, before, but now a beaten warrior. (Pg.7). Beowulf had been defeated
the monster had won. No one around him came to him for comfort, they all cowered away from their
fear of the monster that had defeated Beowulf. This is like how when God died for our sins, no one
came to him to comfort, he just was alone no one helped him. They were all too scared of what would
happen to themselves, if they had helped

School Lunch Program
The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) is one of the largest food and nutrition assistance
programs in the United States. (Moore, Gothro, Conway, Kyler, 2014). The NSLP provides
nutritionally balanced lunches free or reduced prices meals to income eligible children each school
day. The program is federally funded but administered through State and individual school districts.
Federal government establishes the program rules and guidelines. States monitor funding and
compliance of the federal guidelines. The basis of eligibility for free or reduced price meals can be
determined one of three ways; categorical eligibility or direct certification, community eligibility, and
income based eligibility (Food Research and Action Center). Categorical ... Show more content on

The system is currently being used in Missouri. A state agency is responsible for the system data
which uses the direct certification method by gathering data from multiple sources like SNAP, TANF
or FDIR. The technique is efficient and uniform quality of matching eligible children from across the
State. School districts are responsible for uploading enrollment data and processing lists of potential
matches for the NSLP. States that looked at discrepancies between students and central matching
found fewer erogenous payments. Central matching system is more efficient to monitor erroneous
payments if States would certify NSLP payments at least three times in a school year. Medicaid
information could also be added to central matching system which would help eliminate erroneous

Mesopotamia, Egypt, And The Indus River Valley
Mesopotamia, Egypt, and the Indus River Valley were all civilizations situated near rivers. In
Mesopotamia, the Tigris and Euphrates rivers rose annually but were prone to flooding. In Egypt, on
the other hand, the Nile River had predictable flooding and was and still is the longest river in the
world. It was also easy to traverse due to southern wind patterns and northern currents. In the Indus
Valley, people lived near the Indus River, hence the name. Also, they were isolated, surrounded by the
Himalayas, just as Egypt was isolated, surrounded by deserts, mountains, seas, and cataracts. On the
other hand, Mesopotamia was more open and vulnerable to invasion. In all three cradles, agriculture
began independently. As a result of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Egypt, the pharaoh served as God and king. The Sun God was the main God, leading to discussion
today over whether Egyptians technically practiced monotheism before the Hebrews. However, King
Tut later reverted back to polytheism. They had a main focus on the afterlife, which explains why they
mummified their dead. The people of the Indus Valley were polytheistic and worshipped some female
deities. Divisions in the land took place in each of these three early civilizations. Mesopotamia was a
loose confederation of walled off city states each ruled by a king. Rivalry over land and water amongst
these city states often led to violent conflict. In fact, under the rule of the Assyrians, these walls were 5
to 7 stories high and a hundred feet thick in some places. Egypt was not as divided as Mesopotamia
and was ruled by a pharaoh who served as God and king. The Indus Valley people were the first to use
zoning, or when certain areas are designated as residential, commercial, and for manufacturing. Unlike
in the Fertile Crescent, there was little indication of political hierarchy or centralized states. The
Ziggurat, the largest structure in many of the Mesopotamian city states, served as a temple or pyramid,
while many of the around 70 cities of the Indus Valley had citadels, or two story buildings with a bath
on top that represented a centralized authority. In contrast, the pyramids of Egypt showed job

Value Of Studying History Essay
What is the value, if any, of studying history?
It is often claimed that the value of studying history is that it allows us to make decisions and
predictions regarding the present and future based on the mistakes of the past. Indeed, Edmund Burke
stated as early as 1790 that In history, a great volume is unrolled for our instruction, drawing the
materials of future wisdom from the past errors and infirmities of mankind. 1 However, in this essay I
will show that this is not necessarily the case, and will argue instead that the value of history is that it
allows us to frame our present in the context of the past, and therefore better understand ourselves as a
species and as a society. To illustrate this I will be using the examples of the 2008 financial crisis in
relation to the UK housing market, and the current conflict in Afghanistan in relation to previous wars
in that country.
The UK housing market has long been renowned for being intrinsically volatile 2. As seen in the
graph below, since the early 1970s it has experienced four distinct periods of boom and bust which are
marked each time by an increase in consumer credit (blue line M4).3
This graph clearly shows that each ...bust followed an unsustainable credit induced boom. 4 Therefore
I would argue that lessons from history have not been learned in this case as the cycle of boom and
bust has been repeated four times already and will most likely continue ad infinitum, despite
numerous economists5 and

  • 4. Beam Project The goal of the beam project is to design and construct a beam that can hold a given amount of weight without breaking. The beam is required to hold a concentrated load of 375 lbf on the X axis and 150 lbf on the Y axis. The maximum allowable weight of the beam is 250 grams. The maximum allowable deflection for the beam is 0.230 in. and 0.200 in. for the X and Y axis respectively. The beam is required to be 24 in. in length, and it will be tested on a simply supported configuration spanning 21 in. All calculations are to be done under the assumption that the density of basswood is 28 lbm/ft3 and the modulus of elasticity for basswood is 1.46x106 lbm/in2. Given the constraints of a spending cost of $10.50, a maximum beam weight of 250 grams, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When tested, the actual weight of the beam was 210 grams, the beams deflection on the x axis came out to be .169 in. and the y axis deflection came out to be .137 in. In the calculations for the design of the beam, it was calculated that the beam would weigh around 233 grams however it turned out to be nearly 23 grams lighter. One reason why the beam may have been so much lighter is because the actual density of the wood may have varied from the theoretical density. Since wood is a natural product, it is not possible to determine the actual density unless the density was calculated individually for each piece of wood which was not done in this experiment. The fact that the beam was lighter than anticipated may have also accounted for a higher deflection than what was calculated. The deflection of the beam was expected to be .1086 in. with a 20% safety factor included however the actual deflection ended up being .169 in. which could have been caused by the fact that the wood was not as dense as expected. It may have been possible to achieve a higher efficiency factor by using a different proposed beam that weighed less than the one used however that would have risked a significant increase in the deflection. It also would have been possible to achieve a lower deflection however that would potentially lower the efficiency factor because it would have required larger, heavier pieces of lumber. The fact that the materials used for the project were limited to coming from the 1201 lumber yard and the fact that the modulus of elasticity and density of the wood were assumed could all be reasons as to why there were differences between the theoretical and experimental values. One way in which it may have been possible to achieve test results that were closer to the calculated results would have been to calculate the true density of the wood. Another way to possibly enhance ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although the wage gap has shrunk since the 1970 s, progress has recently stalled and chances of it vanishing on its own is unlikely. The gains that American women have made towards labor market experience and skills is tremendous. In fact, women account for 47% of labor workforce and 49.3% of American jobs. But despite of women s strides, a gender pay gap still exists. Experts suggest that it will take 100 years to close the gap at the rate employers and legislators are working to create solutions. But by allowing women to work in higher paying positions and by proposing and updating pay equity laws, the gender gap can finally be diminished. Women s Civil Rights has always been an issue around the world. During World War II, women began working while the men were away at war. Once the men came back, the pay wage began between men and women. According to researchers, Beth Rowen and Borgna Brunner, between 1950 and 1960, women who had worked full time jobs only earned around 60 cents to every dollar that their male counterparts earned. It was not until June 10, 1963 that the Equal Pay Act was passed by President Kennedy making it illegal for employers to pay women less than men in the same job title. Procopius was the appointed historian to record what was happening in the Empire, but mostly to focus on Theodora and Justinian. The Secret History was written by Procopius, but not published in the West until about a millennium after it was written. As it was a venomous pamphlet of dubious merit , The Secret History is hardly a reliable historical source. It criticises Justinian and Theodora for all of their actions as Emperor and Empress, as well as create a story, possibly based on nothing, about the origins of Theodora. While Procopius is considered a significant historian for the sixth century, it is notable that his treatment of Theodora is biased in an unfavourable way. Procopius adopts a perceptibly hostile attitude toward Theodora. Much of this bias against Theodora can be explained by Procopius view of women in power and gender roles. As a woman in Roman society, Theodora would have been married and her life controlled by her husband. As a woman in the imperial court, Theodora s power and influence over the general public would have been restricted. Even with the limited public influence, there were ways for women to demonstrate authority. One of the most common and traditional ways that women demonstrated power in the sixth century was imperial patronage. I had to ask the question, does anyone really know what it means to be bipolar? Bipolar disorder, also known as manic depressive illness, is a brain disorder that causes unusual shifts in mood, energy, activity levels, and the ability to carry out day to day tasks (NIMH). Suffering from bipolar disorder can mean suffering from drastic changes in mood from one minute to the next. This illness can make getting through the simplest daily tasks impossible and can even cause the person suffering to become suicidal. There are typically three states that a person with this illness will experience; manic, depressive and mixed states. This illness is typically diagnosed in late teens to early twenties and is treatable, but will usually last a person s entire life. At this time there are no medical tests or exams performed to determine if a person is suffering from bipolar disorder. Usually a trained mental health professional can determine the diagnosis after evaluating the person. Bipolar disorder can run in families, although there are some relating factors, scientists have not yet determined any keys in genetics as far as passing the illness on. In both Shakespeare s King Lear, and Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby, man s natural psychological id is displayed by key characters, who are all morally corrupt. King Lear has 2 distinct sides who represent the id and superego, battling over justice in a kingdom centered around a weathered king. In The Great Gatsby, a commonplace working man by the name of Nick Carraway surrounds himself with friends who indulge themselves in luxury, influenced by the psychological id embedded deep within everyone. When observing family dynamics, both King Lear and The Great Gatsby reveal family interactions are driven primarily by the id, which is further supported when considering the presence of oedipal dynamics in both novels. In terms of narrative events, The Great Gatsby s events are heavily influenced by the id, with little to no superego expressed. In contrast, while the bulk of King Lear s storyline is similarly driven by the id, the superego plays a larger role in resisting the id s unlawful desires, and this is exemplified through the triumph of the superego at the story s end. The Great Gatsby depicts how life is hopelessly overridden by human s natural id while King Lear demonstrates how even the smallest source of superego can combat the aggressive nature of the id present in life. In this experiment, two simple spinal reflexes the myotactic reflex and the H reflex were stimulated. We compared a) the latency period the amount of time between a stimulus and the effector response and the amplitude magnitude of an electrical signal of each reflex; then, b) the effect of the Jendrassik Maneuver (JM) upon the latency period and amplitude of each respective reflex. For the myotactic response, a mechanical stimulus, a sharp strike of the patellar tendon, was utilized to elicit a signal in stretch receptors; however, to trigger the H reflex, an electrical impulse was applied. These reflexes originate from an action potential produced by a sensory neuron when a stimulus is applied. Sensory neurons transmit the action potentials to an integrating center the spinal cord where a response is determined. Then, this response is taken back to the effector organ via motor neurons. • 46. Representation Of Christianity In Beowulf Representation of Christian Theology in Beowulf is uncanny all throughout the story. Although, the story of Christianity may not be what some people pull out of this story, there is some evidence that Beowulf may be the same, or resemble God. Throughout the story, Beowulf is faced with Monsters and Creatures that threaten his people s safety. These creatures being so evil and cruel, could be represented as Satan himself. As the story progresses the portrayal of Beowulf makes him out to be almost immortal and Godlike. Nevertheless, Beowulf and Christian Theology have many corresponding themes. For Instance, the first monster Beowulf is to face up against is hated and despised by the whole town, he s described as to be Bearing God s hatred (Pg.1). ... No one else could do What i mean to, here, no man but me could hope to defeat this monster. (Pg.6). Beowulf still thinking he has it in him to defeat this monster, even though he is old and tired, gets up and matches straight towards the tower. This is like even though God did not have to do all this things he did, but he still did them for his people. When Beowulf gets to the tower, you see that Beowulf is no match for this monster. And for the first time in his life that famous prince fought with fate against him, with glory denied him. (Pg.7). Beowulf for the first time if fighting for his life, before that day Beowulf had everything on his side. The monster soon wrapped around in swirling flames a king, before, but now a beaten warrior. (Pg.7). Beowulf had been defeated the monster had won. No one around him came to him for comfort, they all cowered away from their fear of the monster that had defeated Beowulf. This is like how when God died for our sins, no one came to him to comfort, he just was alone no one helped him. They were all too scared of what would happen to themselves, if they had helped ... • 47. School Lunch Program The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) is one of the largest food and nutrition assistance programs in the United States. (Moore, Gothro, Conway, Kyler, 2014). The NSLP provides nutritionally balanced lunches free or reduced prices meals to income eligible children each school day. The program is federally funded but administered through State and individual school districts. Federal government establishes the program rules and guidelines. States monitor funding and compliance of the federal guidelines. The basis of eligibility for free or reduced price meals can be determined one of three ways; categorical eligibility or direct certification, community eligibility, and income based eligibility (Food Research and Action Center). A state agency is responsible for the system data which uses the direct certification method by gathering data from multiple sources like SNAP, TANF or FDIR. The technique is efficient and uniform quality of matching eligible children from across the State. School districts are responsible for uploading enrollment data and processing lists of potential matches for the NSLP. States that looked at discrepancies between students and central matching found fewer erogenous payments. Central matching system is more efficient to monitor erroneous payments if States would certify NSLP payments at least three times in a school year. • 48. Mesopotamia, Egypt, And The Indus River Valley Mesopotamia, Egypt, and the Indus River Valley were all civilizations situated near rivers. In Mesopotamia, the Tigris and Euphrates rivers rose annually but were prone to flooding. In Egypt, on the other hand, the Nile River had predictable flooding and was and still is the longest river in the world. It was also easy to traverse due to southern wind patterns and northern currents. In the Indus Valley, people lived near the Indus River, hence the name. Also, they were isolated, surrounded by the Himalayas, just as Egypt was isolated, surrounded by deserts, mountains, seas, and cataracts. On the other hand, Mesopotamia was more open and vulnerable to invasion. In all three cradles, agriculture began independently. As a result of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Egypt, the pharaoh served as God and king. The Sun God was the main God, leading to discussion today over whether Egyptians technically practiced monotheism before the Hebrews. However, King Tut later reverted back to polytheism. They had a main focus on the afterlife, which explains why they mummified their dead. The people of the Indus Valley were polytheistic and worshipped some female deities. Divisions in the land took place in each of these three early civilizations. Mesopotamia was a loose confederation of walled off city states each ruled by a king. Rivalry over land and water amongst these city states often led to violent conflict. In fact, under the rule of the Assyrians, these walls were 5 to 7 stories high and a hundred feet thick in some places. Egypt was not as divided as Mesopotamia and was ruled by a pharaoh who served as God and king. The Indus Valley people were the first to use zoning, or when certain areas are designated as residential, commercial, and for manufacturing. Unlike in the Fertile Crescent, there was little indication of political hierarchy or centralized states. The Ziggurat, the largest structure in many of the Mesopotamian city states, served as a temple or pyramid, while many of the around 70 cities of the Indus Valley had citadels, or two story buildings with a bath on top that represented a centralized authority. In contrast, the pyramids of Egypt showed job ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. Value Of Studying History Essay What is the value, if any, of studying history? It is often claimed that the value of studying history is that it allows us to make decisions and predictions regarding the present and future based on the mistakes of the past. Indeed, Edmund Burke stated as early as 1790 that In history, a great volume is unrolled for our instruction, drawing the materials of future wisdom from the past errors and infirmities of mankind. 1 However, in this essay I will show that this is not necessarily the case, and will argue instead that the value of history is that it allows us to frame our present in the context of the past, and therefore better understand ourselves as a species and as a society. To illustrate this I will be using the examples of the 2008 financial crisis in relation to the UK housing market, and the current conflict in Afghanistan in relation to previous wars in that country. The UK housing market has long been renowned for being intrinsically volatile 2. As seen in the graph below, since the early 1970s it has experienced four distinct periods of boom and bust which are marked each time by an increase in consumer credit (blue line M4).3 This graph clearly shows that each ...bust followed an unsustainable credit induced boom. 4 Therefore I would argue that lessons from history have not been learned in this case as the cycle of boom and bust has been repeated four times already and will most likely continue ad infinitum, despite numerous economists5 and ...
