LONDON Yesterday, 47 British boys who went missing one month ago after their plane was gunned
down were found on an inhabited island in the southern Pacific Ocean. The pilot and three children are
dead. British officer William Young was one of the officers who reported to the scene, he said, the
pilot is the only victim of the plane crash. Forty seven British choir boys survived the plane crash,
they attended school here in London. The airplane, British Airways B0A 718, was shot down over the
ocean. It crashed into a coconut jungle on an inhabited island. The British Officials released a
statement stating, We are deeply shocked by the actions of these children and are grateful that our

They navigated to the island and found the boys carrying sharp wooden sticks while chasing and
attempting to murder their former leader, Ralph. The boys were found in a savage like conditions.
They were half naked, dirty, weak, and were traumatized when I found them, said the British Naval
officer who located the boys. Three children died on the island. One accidental death and two
murders. John Henry, was burned to death in an out of control fire. Simon Smith was brutally
murdered by the children, and his corpse was found washed up in the lagoon. The boys repeatedly
stabbed him with wooden sticks until he was dead. Piggy William died when one of the boys, Roger
pushed a boulder onto him when he was confronted for stealing his glasses. This incident is very
disturbing and sad. The boys behaviour is unbelievable, very savage and cruel. As of now we are
getting reports that state many of these young boys are traumatized. We are speaking to the parents
and guardians of these boys to ensure they get the help they require from therapists and doctors, said
the Minister of Health, Mackenzie William. The British police have not announced if charges will be
laid. According to the British law, the boys are too young to be

An Examination Of Recent Quantitative Metrics Provides...
Over the last half century, the United Methodist Church has declined in membership and attendance.
Numerous church literature attests to the aforementioned research. To further the current literature, an
examination of recent quantitative metrics provides further insight into reversing church growth trends
towards healthy and vital congregations. To help the Annual Conference (AC), The General Council
on Finance and Administration (GCFA) constructed a statistical analysis model at the annual
conference level. The model provides insight into the three main areas within the annual conference
based on three conceptual lenses. While it does not cover everything, the model s lenses provide
meaningful information on three key metrics including ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Paramount to the data is the utilization of worship attendance as the foundation or principal variable.
The component incorporates all United Methodist Churches that have reported at least one average
weekly attendee. All other variables are tied and counted based on the weekly attendance metric.
While the attendance variable is imperfect, it directly ties to other measurements of church vitality.
The examination below includes three main lenses to analyze the data. Observational Lenses First, the
use of weekly attendance allows other variables to be split into church size categories. It is useful to
find information beyond the annual conference level because small and large churches have different
needs. Hence, a large number of factors listed in the report are broken down into the church s average
attendance ranges. By drilling into the data, we can see differences and similarities among larger and
smaller churches. The church size breakdown is based on three main factors. First, the average weekly
attendance percentages split this lens at roughly the ten percent range of weekly attendance. Second,
the groupings were placed into sensible breakdowns. In other words, while the groups was broken
down into their 10% attendance percentages further consideration was given to relative size and feel
of each grouping. Third, certain groupings were isolated because of their historical differences among

Simon Baatz, an associate professor of history and historian has written an exceptional masterpiece
Leopold, Loeb, and the Murder that Chicago . It was a crime that shocked the nation. It is a book
based on a brutal murder in Chicago in 1924 of a child, by two wealthy students who killed solely for
the thrill of the experience.
Baatz starts of the book by giving us a brief introduction of the victim Bobby Franks and his family.
Bobby came from a rich family having one brother and sister. Bobby Frank s father Jacob Franks was
a wealthy Chicago watch manufacturer. On May 1924, Bobby left the house to umpire at an
impromptu baseball between his school mates and never returned home. Jacob Franks friend Samuel
Ettelson had connections in the police department and appointed state attorney Robert Crowe to
personally work on the case.
Robert Crowe studied law at Yale University and become state attorney on 1917. He is famous for
winning the case by imposing death penalty on Thomas Fitzgerald, who had plead guilty for the
murder of 6 year old Janet Wilkinson. Robert Crowe later prosecuted Leopold and Loeb with the same
agenda, to give them both death penalty. He competed against famous Clarence Darrow.

Critical Evaluation Of Two Theories Of Leadership
Critical Evaluation of Two Theories of Leadership
Introduction
At the present time, leadership, especially effective leadership plays an increasingly significant role in
the organization, which can be regarded as the process of affecting activities of an organized group in
its efforts forward target setting and target achievement (Daft, 2011). From this perspective,
organizations in every walk of life are in pursuit of effective leadership in order to ensure the
competitive advantage (Schriesheim et al., 1999). Although there is no unique definition about
effective leadership, precisely, in light of Lussier Achua (2007), there are two basic requirement on
effective leadership: for one thing, effective leadership will ensure that reach the target of the group
can be reached effectively; for another, leadership can impose positive influence on the group
members, and motivate them to Maximum their potentials.
To ensure leadership effective, several leadership theories are put forward and are adopted by different
organizations. Some widely accepted theories include Trait Approach, Style Approach, Situational
Approach, New Leadership Approach and Post charismatic Post transformational (Western, 2013).
Beyond doubt, they have their pros and cons, and they could play their role to guarantee the
effectiveness of leadership as long as they are applied in an appropriate condition.
With the purpose of better learning effective leadership, this essay will carry

The Iraqi Culture Essay
The Iraqi Culture In recent years, the Iraqi nation has endured a crisis that will forever remain in the
hearts and minds of the Middle Eastern culture. However, the outcomes of the War on Iraq will not
change the long lasting and passionate traditions and memories that have been held in the country for
decades. One major event that happened in Iraq s history is that on October 3, 1932 Iraq was
established as an independent nation. Iraq has always been a country in which respect and generosity
have been highly valued and play an important cultural role in everyday life. Additionally,
approximately ninety five percent of Iraqis are Muslim, and therefore Islam is the official religion of
this nation (Gutierrez 1). Furthermore, Iraq is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the year of 1991, the phrase Allahu Akbar, meaning God is great, was added to the faithful flag of
Iraq (Culture of Iraq 2). Lastly, the War on Terror has been a very unfortunate happening for the entire
world, but even more so specifically for those living in the Middle East. After the United States
invaded Iraq due to the belief that they had weapons of mass destruction, Saddam Hussein was killed,
and the country was forever changed. Three of the many cultural practices in Iraq include food,
marriage, and education. In the Middle East the the traditional meal includes rice with soup or sauce,
and accompanied by lamb and vegetables (Culture of Iraq 4). Traditionally in Iraq, having an arranged
marriage at a young age was a standard procedure. As of roles in the family, girls were mostly taught
to take after the roles of their mothers, which was to take care of the household. On the other hand
boys were taught to be hard working and dominate. In Iraq, their schools teach children about religion
and were very strict. A critical factor in everyday life for them is to hold values and claim
responsibility for themselves and their families. The majority of Iraqis practice the Muslim religion
but there is still a small percentage of Iraqis that practice the Christian religion. For example, every
Friday afternoon, Muslims gather at the Mosque to pray (Ghabra 10). On the other hand, for
Christians, Sundays are a holy day for prayer

Similarities Between Matthew And The Gospel Of Luke
The Bible has four gospels but, only two of them contain the nativity story. The two gospels that have
the nativity story are the Gospel of Matthew and the Gospel of Luke. Both are similar on a literary
level which can be explained by the synoptic problem. The Gospel of Mark and the source Q were the
basis of these two gospels. Matthew and Luke shared sources but, they had their individual sources
too. The genealogy, the nativity, and the childhood of Jesus played significant roles within the
respective gospels. All components helped both authors generate a unique message to their audience.
Also, they provided an insight of the beginning of Jesus s journey and his mission on Earth.
First, background information needs to be given about the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The theory, Special Luke, is proven many times within Luke s portrayal of Jesus s genealogy, birth,
and young childhood. The Gospel of Luke began with chronicle of John the Baptist. An angel
appeared to Zechariah, the father of John, and announced that John the Baptist would be born. This
was a unique beginning because John the Baptist paved the way for Jesus and his ministry. Mary was
then visited by Angel Gabriel who announced the birth of Jesus. Mary then relied [h]ere am I, the
servant of the Lord; let it be with me according to your word (Luke 1:38). The narrative continued on
with Mary visiting her cousin Elizabeth, John the Baptist s mother. Elizabeth then gives birth to her
son and on the eighth day he is circumcised and named John. Luke decided to tell the nativity story in
Mary s perspective. This emphasized how everyone was accepted in God s kingdom and women were
disciples of God. Joseph and Mary had to travel to Judea from Nazareth, their hometown, for
registration. This led Mary to deliver Jesus in a barn somewhere in Bethlehem. Shepherds nearby were
notified of the Messiah s birth through angels. Eight days after Jesus s birth, he was circumcised and
named. Jesus was then presented to God in the Temple in Jerusalem. The holy family then returns to
Nazareth. By age twelve, Jesus and his family went to the Temple in Jerusalem for the festival of

Regulatory Review Commission Case Analysis Essay
Regulatory Review Commission Inefficiencies in Operating the Operations Centre Executive
Summary Overview The Regulatory Review Commission s (R.R.C.) operations centre has recently
run into issues with handling an employee, Brian Coffey. Coffey s manager, Monique Ricard, is
contemplating how to handle Coffey s behaviour, who has been consistently late to work, is missing
deadlines, and even not showing up to work. Ricard is looking for an answer as to how she can
possibly terminate or transfer Coffey, as his behaviour has not been documented sufficiently. Problems
The R.R.C. s problems stretch beyond just Coffey, but it may take an outside perspective to notice
them. While Coffey s behaviour is definitely an issue, it is an ... Show more content on

can meet all of its deadlines in a constructive atmosphere. Problems The problem needing the most
immediate attention is Coffey s behaviour and performance. Coffey consistently arrives at work late,
and takes extended breaks. Coffey has even gone so far as to set an alarm for when his breaks begin
and when he can go home. Coffey s tardiness reached a new pinnacle when he failed to show up to
work for a Monday and part of a Tuesday, without informing Ricard of his absence. The most
alarming concern Coffey poses to the R.R.C. is his attitude towards meeting deadlines. Consistently
Coffey either submits work just before or after the required deadlines for assignments. Ricard has
confronted Coffey several times about his behaviour, and Coffey, stubborn to change, refuses to
believe he needs to improve. Another major problem the R.R.C. is facing is an issue experienced by
many government offices. Job security is basically ensured at the R.R.C. and the process to terminate
an employee is extensive and time consuming. All efforts must be taken to first make a reasonable
effort to assist the employee in improving their performance. If the employee can t perform the duties
of their position, an effort must be made to move them to a position they are capable of performing. If
the employee is incompetent for any available position, only then can an employee be terminated. The
biggest issue comes when the employer needs to

Agile Methodologies And Rapid Application Development Essay
Agile Methodologies Rapid Application Development: A Comparison
Agile Methodologies Rapid Application Development look to improve the SDLC by using a
framework and requirements to complete projects. The paths that both AM and RAD take to get to the
finish line can differ immensely, which can ultimately lead to varying results.
Agile Methodologies
Matharu, Mishra, Singh, Upadhyay (2015, p. 1) state that, agile methods are characterized by shorter
development cycles, higher customer interaction, incremental delivery, frequent redesign with
accommodation of changes necessitated by dynamic user requirements. The Agarwal et al. text
explores three of the most popular agile methods, Scrum, Extreme Programming (EP), and Kanban.
All of these agile methods follow The Agile Manifesto (Beck, et al., 2001).
Scrum. Scrum manages the full SDLC in short iterations called sprints. Each sprint is a smaller, full,
SDLC. There are three very important roles within a scrum process, the scrum master, development
team, and product owner. Collaboration is at the center of this methodology. Scrum attempts to utilize
unique skills within the team to their maximum ability. Daily meetings are called to review the status
of the project and assign resources where they are needed. A product and sprint backlog are
maintained to provide insight on tasks, steps, and requirements to complete and meet for the ongoing
project. Through a series of sprints, the backlogs are completed in an

Assess the Impact of Interference by Foreign Powers on...
Assess the impact of interference by foreign powers on China s development in the 20th century
During the 20th century China underwent a massive transformation. In the early 1900s China was a
mass of land lacking any real political cohesion and so was plagued by disputes between the many
ruling warlords. However, by the year 2000 China was considered a major contender on the world
stage and still is today; it almost seems certain that China will become the most powerful nation on
earth in the next 50 years. This major transformation is seen to be a great success of China,
considering the relatively short amount of time in which it was accomplished, but the question still
remains as to whether entire credit should be given to China ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Despite the burgeoning hope of a strong independent China, free of the exploitation of foreign powers,
Sun Yat Sen s aims were not achieved. However, this laid the basis for China s ideal of developing
their own independence.
A politician of great significance was Mao Zedong, the first Chairman of the People s Republic of
China. He had possibly the largest impact on the development of China, particularly with policies such
as his agricultural reform. Foreign interference, by way of Japan s invasion (1937 49), had had a great
negative effect on economic development. Their original intent to exploit China s resources was
manifested in mass murder across the country (the rape of Nanking being a focussed example of this)
and such destruction of infrastructure and mass looting that instances of cannibalism became quite
widespread. Hence, it was to Mao that much of the task of reforming and rebuilding fell. Mao s
greatest achievement, and the core of any development free of foreign interference, was his success in
harnessing the unquenchable spirit of the Chinese people. Their unrelenting efforts went some way to
counteracting the

personality traits are usually a gift that somehow come in handy throughout your life, even if it s bad
you can always manage to bring a good deed from it. The way I see it a personality trait is what makes
you who you are good or bad this is what makes you remarkable from everyone else, and who knows
if the traits that you develop help you out in the future with your career plan. Now, the traits that I

King Alexander The Great
A son of Philip II of Macedonia and the princess of Epirus Olympias, Alexander the Great ruled from
336 to 323 B.C.E., and during these 13 years of leadership, he conquered a territory bigger than the
Roman Empire. It stretched from the Ionian Sea to the Himalayas, but it was torn apart right after his
death. Alexander, considering himself a god like figure, was an inspiration for later conquerors such as
Hannibal, Caesar, and Napoleon.
Early life While Alexander lived in his palace in Pela, his father was fighting off the power of
Macedonia. The future king was a skilled equestrian, taming a stallion horse named Bucephalus,
which nobody could tame. Plutarch wrote: Philip and his friends looked on at first in silence and

In 336 BCE King Philip was asassinated by a Macedonian noble. His dream of conquering Persia was

started persuading each state of the league to make him the leader of it. By the fall of 336, he got full

Belonging Of A Sisterhood Of Arms
Belonging to a Sisterhood of Arms
Despite having been involved in the military since the American Revolution, women are most often
overlooked as being a soldier. While many people think it is respectful to go up and thank a person for
their service and duties in the military, most often they insult women by not acknowledging them as a
soldier, because society still sees military personnel as a male based society. There is a fallacy to this
stigma.
Almost anyone can point out a man who is in the service, whether or not he is in uniform. Although it
may not be easy to tell that I was a soldier in one point in time. The main reason is, is because I am a
woman. There are not many physical attributes for a female that gives any tell tale signs like a person
would see with a male member with his high and thigh hair cut and freshly shaven face. The only sure
way to know that I was a soldier is if I had said so, or if I was seen wearing one of my uniforms with
my hair tied neatly in a low bun; however when I am in my civys (military term for civilian clothes), it
s almost impossible to tell unless one is very observant in human behaviors. Another way to tell how a
woman may be a military member is how we talk; we usually use military jargon such as female/male
, using the NATO alphabet, FUBAR (F*** Up Beyond All Recognition) , and many others we may
find reasons to use in our civilian lives but can only find a military term to express how we feel about
it.
Another way we can be

Impressionism takes the moment at hand and depicts it with light and color. George Seurat was
influenced by Impressionism using modern subjects and urban leisure scenes. He used color
characterizing of Impressionism but also made arrangements based on color theory. Seurat wanted to
capture all the colors that interacted to make their own appearance which differed in thought to
Impressionism of putting colors next to each other to create colors that blended optically. Seurat
helped move Impressionism into Post Impressionism by developing a systematic structured way of
painting.

The way the sun pours down on the people, the rest of the canvas basks in the sun whereas the
shadows are a darker green hue on the lighter green grass. The way the sun is portrayed, it looks as if

objects. The trees show the special blending effects of the colors. To the left of the painting, the use of
white creates a light and as the eye moves to the right, it blends into the color of the greens of the
trees. Here, Seurat is placing white and green next to each other. The brushwork of the painting is
dotlike with the dots varying in size and shape. These individuals dots blend together into one scene.
The painting s perspective is to the left with the people all looking that way toward the river. The
people in the front of the painting are closer to the eye. The woman in the front and that man walking
with her are the biggest figures in the picture. These sizes help balance the artwork. Lines were mostly
avoided with the use of shading for a softer effect.
Seurat s painting is one of the most reproduced paintings. Initially, pointillism was not received well
as this new painting style was like nothing else and the general public did not receive it well. A
Sunday on La Grande Jatte was the first painting to be painted entirely in pointillism which changed

Reflection Papers
I have been teaching writing for many years. As a result, I have a variety of papers for students to
write that I know are possible for third graders to write. In addition, each year and group of students is
different so I adjust the papers they write based on the level of the group and the needs of the
individual student.
We work together on planning our papers through a step by step scaffolding process and modeling so
that students have assistance with the planning process. The next stage is for me to walk around to
monitor the students and determine what assistance they need. I check for understanding of the
assignment and make suggestions as needed and to confirm they will be able to write this paper.
During this time, I will assist them with any spelling issues they may have. In addition, I conference
one on one with each student and will help them with spelling during this time. Since I don t teach
spelling, this process has worked the best. Finally, I do teach cursive handwriting so this is a skill that
we work on weekly. My goal is to finish each of the letters in the first semester and practice these
skills in the second.
We are departmentalized so I am only able to see their work in writing and science. We do write a
science research paper on the animal of their choice which gives them the opportunity to apply their
writing skills to science. In addition, we write an instruction manual for a simple machine. My goal is

The Colossal Statue Of King Tuthankhamun And The Lamassu
The Colossal Statue of King Tuthankhamun and the Lamassu are amazing works of art. Of the eight
works assigned, these two particularly caught my eye. The two pieces, though very different, have
many similarities. In this paper, I will discuss these similarities and differences of style in terms of
their overall shape, proportions, and individual parts.
The Lamassu of the Assyrian kingdom was quite large in size as it guarded the entrances to the throne
room of the Assyrian king. The size of the winged bull with a human head was surely an important
part in guarding the gates and instilling fear in all that passed it. It is a relief sculpture of mostly high
relief elements as the wings are the only parts that appear to be in low relief. The entire body, except
the head, is in profile view. I believe that this was done purposely to create a gaze between the
Lamassu and whoever passed it in order to instill fear. The head is also not proportioned with the rest
of the body as it appears smaller than that of which it should be. The head of the Lamassu is also
decorated with possibly a crown of some sort, earrings, and a beard. His beard has a distinct pattern
that creates texture amongst as well as within his earrings. This same textured pattern can also be seen
in different areas of the bull body as well as the bottom of the tail. The bull body is strong and

Summary Of Lynching
Lynchings impacted the social hierarchy in the United States as the victims were specifically African
Americans and Mexicans, which left a legacy of discrimination against anyone who was not white.
Contemporary artist, Vincent Valdez, uses his art of photography to make people aware of the targeted
victims of the executions with the goal of creating a systematic change. The system he wishes to
change is the social hierarchy which is the organization of people at different ranks in an
administrative body. Firstly, the social hierarchy in the United States was affected because African
Americans and Mexicans were the sufferers of the hangings. The article, Vincent Valdez s The
Strangest Fruit: A Bitter Crop in Texas, claims, If the story of lynching ... Show more content on

This is considered a form of transformational resistance because Valdez is aware of the issue of this
legacy and wants to completely end it. He has the intention of educating those who are still affected
today and want to battle the same fight as their ancestors did many years ago. With the knowledge he
is giving, it is enough to challenge the elite and the white supremacy and if it is a success it can
completely end its legacy of discrimination. To conclude, African Americans and Mexicans were
characteristically targeted in the lynchings which left a legacy of prejudice against non whites and that
eventually shaped the social hierarchy we have today. Vincent Valdez used transformational resistance

Early Stages of The Industrial Revolution In Britain:
How Factories That Burned Coal Created Air Pollution
In the long process of human history, with the occurrence of the industrial revolution, Britain was the
first country to go through industrialisation. People give high marks on this industrial revolution,
considering that it marks the beginning of a new era in human history; has passed the previous
agricultural economy and has lead the human has into the industrial age. Today, however, when we
think back to the British modern industrial revolution and the industrialisation process, we can find
out that it has not only brought in endless welfare, but also was a great failure ... Show more content

II. Using machines excluded the restriction of all kinds of natural conditions and also value added use
of plants. III. With the expansion of factories, some large scale factories raised their productivity
gradually. Take cotton textile as an example, the invention of the spinning frame by Sir Richard
Arkwright and the invention of the spinning mule by Samuel Crompton helped to raise productivity
rapidly. If you wanted to process 100 pounds of cotton, you could use India hand spinning labour,
which needed 50,000 hours; But you could use spinning mule with 100 spindles and only need 1,000
hours. Or you could use the steam engine spinning mule and only need 300 hours. In 1825, Roberts
Loom s self acting spinning mule needed just 135 hours. IV. A factory owner aimed to make the
maximisation of profit his most important goal. Extensive production increased personal wealth
rapidly and satisfied people s desire for money.
Just because of the industry system, factory owners have an inner drive to despite everything expand
the production scale just to earn more profit and this can be implemented and amplified with machines
material strength. Therefore, in the 1830s, textiles were built in an astonishing speed. The ships of the
English swarm like flies; their printed calicoes cover the whole earth . Not only did occurred

Public Schooling And Public Education
With the many diverse characteristics of the Unites States, perhaps the most troubling is the rising gap
in the distribution of wealth. As the wealth gap in the United States rises exponentially, the gap in the
quality of public schooling rises with it. For a country that prides itself in prestigious outlets of
education, the system of public schooling seems to be miserably failing. Public education, a system
that some fight to destroy while others fight to preserve, is perhaps the only source of academic
opportunity for many individuals living in this country. The fact that someone can live in a certain area
and receive a higher quality of public education than someone else living in a different area in the
same country even in the same state is a problem that should not trouble a progressive democratic
society. Unfortunately, areas of lower socioeconomic status receive much less funding than areas of
higher socioeconomic status, where property taxes account for 45% of funding in public school
districts. Naturally, the impoverished residents of poor neighborhoods pay a harsh price in this
situation, sending their children to an underfunded school with little to no resources, where sometimes
teachers must supply the classroom from their own pocket. As Rogerson and Fernandez note, a system
that allows the accidents of geography and birth to determine the quality of education received by an
individual is inimical to the idea of equal opportunity in the marketplace

Black Skin, White Masks, By Frantz Fanon Essay
Thus my unreason was countered with reason, my reason with real reason. Every hand was a losing
hand for me. I analyzed my heredity. I made a complete audit of my ailment. I wanted to be typically
Negro it was no longer possible. I wanted to be white that was a joke. And, when I tried, on the level
of ideas and intellectual activity, to reclaim my negritude, it was snatched away from me. (101) Frantz
Fanon was a Martinique born, Afro Caribbean psychiatrist, philosopher, revolutionary, and writer
whose works are influential in the fields of post colonial studies, Marxism, and critical theory. He was
born in 1925 and died in 1961. The quote above is from Fanon s first book, Black Skin, White Masks
(1952), originally titled as An Essay for the Disalienation of Blacks. Fanon, in this book is providing a
prognosis about the lived experience of the black man. He is concerned with describing the place that
is held by blacks in the mid 20th century and illustrates the issues of race and racism and to point the
reader toward a better and free future for all men. The quote above shows how oppression gives rise to
ways of being. Fanon s experience and the background of the time period he was living in justifies his
hostility when he argues that the black man is constantly trying, but never fully accomplishing, to be
white and to integrate into the white man s world. In this essay I will show the three phases Fanon
goes through to reach this conclusion: to escape his blackness,

What Is The Significance Of The Gold Rush In Canada
History may not be everyone s favourite subject however, there are some fascinating events that have
happened in Canada s history in which one of them was the Gold Rush Era. In Canada, the three key
events in the Gold Rush Era included the Fraser River, Cariboo, and Klondike gold rushes. A gold
rush is when a numerous amount of individuals migrate to a specific region to get hold of newly
discovered gold in pursuit of riches.
The Fraser River Gold Rush was British Columbia s first significant gold rush. In 1857, a local man
was taking a drink from the Thompson River when he noticed a tiny glittering pebble. That pebble
was then discovered to be gold and with that the history of British Columbia was changed for eternity.
In 1858, when the word spilled out that there was gold near the Fraser River, more than 30, 000 people
flocked to the shores of the Fraser River to Lillooet, British Columbia to find gold. A significant
amount of seekers were Americans looking for new opportunities after the California gold rush had
come to an end. Due to the arrival of many Americans, to prevent American invasion from threatening
the British sovereignty in the area, a new colony called New Caledonia was created, which is now
present day British Columbia. The gold rush ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Traditional and Nontraditional Forms of Litigation
Traditional and Nontraditional Forms of Litigation In every business of today, every business and
organization needs legal assistance. Yet, the types of legal assistance might not always be the same,
depending on the individual industry and situational analysis of the business in question. This is a
comparison of traditional and nontraditional litigation services that are often used by contemporary
businesses, with special attention paid to Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR). First, to understand
the newer, nontraditional forms of litigation it is imperative to set up a sound foundation for
understanding the more traditional forms of litigation. Essentially, traditional litigation is the process
of going to court to handle disputes of both business and civil matters. As such, litigation is the
traditional process, whereby both parties use the court system and procedures to resolve their dispute
(Lewis, 2012). Here, legal advice and representation is provided by lawyers who act on behalf of the
parties involved in the dispute. In this traditional form, the parties can not talk to each other at all
during the context of the dispute process. In contrast to the more traditional styles of litigation,
Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) is much different. Essentially, this more alternative style to
approaching litigation needs aims to resolve disputes before they have to actually go through the
expensive and complicated process of litigation. Here the research claims that

Literary Devices In The Alchemist
The book, The Alchemist, written by Paulo Coelho, conveys many messages relating to life and
society. The book outlines the story of a boy named Santiago who goes on a journey to the pyramids
of Egypt, to find treasure. Along his way he learns about the concept of predetermined destiny, and the
soul of the universe. One major moral shown within the book, is the idea that you should always
pursue your dreams, despite minor obstacles, as you never know where it may take you. One literary
device that conveys this message, is the device of irony. One example of irony in this book, is how
Santiago set out to find the girl he wanted to see, but ended up finding the King of Salem instead. This
is ironic, as this book shows how your destiny is predetermined, meaning that his destiny led him to
learning about the concept of destiny. He followed his destiny which led him to a place he never
expected, but ended up taking him on a journey. This shows readers to pursue what they want, because
even if they don t end up where they originally ended up, they may still end up somewhere else. A
second example of irony relating the Coelho s overall message was Santiago actually meeting the
King. Santiago originally tried to ignore the King, as he just saw him as an old man. However, due to
his morals, he acknowledges the King, and learns, on top of the concept of the Soul of the Universe,
that many try to hide from their destinies. This is ironic, as meeting and speaking with the King is

The Coexistence of the Media and the Government Essay...
The Coexistence of the Media and the Government
The American media system is spinning out of control in a hyper commercialized frenzy. Fewer than
ten transnational media conglomerates dominate much of our media; fewer than two dozen account
for the overwhelming majority of our newspapers, magazines, films, television, radio, and books. With
every aspect of our media culture now fair game for commercial exploitation, we can look forward to
the full scale commercialization of sports, arts, and education, the disappearance of notions of public
service from public discourse, and the degeneration of journalism, political coverage, and children s
programming under commercial pressure. This concentration of media power and attendant ... Show

Objecting to news coverage, they say, is merely blaming the messenger ; the press claims no

Journalists and reporters abuse the claim to their first amendment rights, the first instinct of many
journalists is to cry First Amendment! Which is like the military s reflexive use of national security to
rebut any criticism of how it does its work. (Fallows 184). With the first amendment protecting the
media from any criticisms, they have no conscience in what the show or say. The media is no better
than any other sitcom on TV. They do what they have to do for an audience.
Fallows hypothesis that contemporary commercial journalism is essentially a mix of crime stories,
celebrity profiles, consumer news pitched at the upper middle class, and warmed over press releases is
completely and utterly plausible. Everyone knows that big time journalists have become powerful and
prominent. We see them shouting at presidents during White House press conferences. We hear them
offering instant thumbs up/thumbs down verdicts a few seconds after a politician completes a speech.
We know that they swarm from one hot news event to the next from a press conference by Gennifer
Flowers, to a riot site in Los Angeles, to congressional hearings on a Supreme Court nominee, to the
arraignment of Tonya Harding.

The title of this book is called Parrot in the Oven and is an extended metaphor that means there is a
parrot who is complaining about being too hot in the shade when he is actually in the oven. Meaning,
Manny used to be ignorant, but he no longer is because of the events he went through. Victor
Martinez, the author of Parrot in the Oven is a Bildungsroman because the character Manny grows up
throughout the story by learning through racism, social hierarchy, seeing gang activity, and watching
Eddie go down the wrong path. Manny will begin to realize that he wants to change his life around.
Manny learns his first lesson through hierarchy and racism. Manny watched a boxing match between a
Mexican and a black boy, and it is extremely racially intense. At the end of the chapter Manny had to

Chaucer s Retraction In The Canterbury Tales Essay
Different scholars have had different understandings of Chaucer s Retraction and The Canterbury
Tales. The divergent views have drawn different interpretations of the intended meaning and the
context of its existence. Many scholars believe that The Parson s Tale was Chaucer s final work. Some
people feel Chaucer s Retraction was the final one in the collection, while others doubt that Chaucer
was the real author of the repudiation. This dilemma is implored by the fact the retraction completely
disowns the earlier versions of Chaucer s works. Those who agree that Chaucer s Retraction is the
actual work of Geoffrey Chaucer give several reasons why he disowned his work. They explain what
he sought to achieve and how the retraction relates to The Parson s Tale and the whole framework of
The Canterbury Tales.
The fact that Chaucer s main reason of retracting his tales in The Canterbury Tales is to avoid
accusations arising from writing some of the tales is no secret. The fictions rather use some words and
an approach that at the time would have sounded offensive to the pilgrimage or as a criticism of the
church. He uses the retraction to appeal to not only truth as an ideal virtue but also to the words of the
pilgrims that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

and Chaucer s Retraction help to look back on the other tales, which are rather vulgar in language and
obscene in technique. The fact that he chose to end his final touch on The Canterbury Tales on a
religious note is both suspicious and pious. However, what this does is to reiterate and reaffirm every

first movement of the piece of piano is most pleasingly sensitive, without being in the least bit
sentimental. I look forward to hearing more of his performances. but I sense his performances alone

relatively often. But the good thing is each note so utterly clear and perfectly ... Show more content on

of the highlights of the set. The second part has a bit better. While hardly relaxed or jovial, even if he

Rhode Island Fire Research Paper
Rhode Island Nightclub Fire A fire can happen anywhere at any time, if the conditions are right. These
conditions could be, the condition of the building is in, the weather, how many people are in the
structure, or what is going on inside that structure. A fire is defined as the rapid oxidation with
evolution of heat and light (flame) or as an uncontrolled combustion. An investigation happens at
every fire so that way the cause and origin are known (DeHaan, 2). A specific fire happened on
February 20, 2003, at a night in Rhode Island. The night club is called The Station, and this club was
located in West Warwick, Rhode Island, and was holding a concert where the Great White performed.
With all fires investigations occur looking at the fire ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Streets Are Safer For Women Than They Are For Men
In reality, the streets are much safer for women than they are for men. Critique this statement using the
victimisation/fear paradox AND with reference to current statistics.
The perceived and potential threat for street violence is a significant social issue and has led to public
fear; it has been imbedded so deep within our minds that it is almost instinctual to be constantly on the
lookout for danger when out of the home. Beginning in early childhood through learning about
stranger danger , (Foster 2015), children, particularly females, are being taught to avoid certain
situations because of this fear. According to Jackson (2009), there is a sense of control, comfortability
and familiarity within the home, and it is the unknown and a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

(Australian Institute of Criminology 2014b). This disproportionate relationship is called the
victimisation fear paradox; where there is a sizeable difference between an individual s level of fear
experienced compared to the statistical likelihood of actually falling victim to crime. (Ross 2012).
When considering women s most feared types of victimisation when alone on the streets sexual assault
and murder, (State Government of Victoria 2015), it is statistically more likely that these things will
happen in an individual s place of residence; 55% of Australian murders and 60% of reported sexual
assaults in 2011 occurred in the victim s home, with only 16% and 7% occurring on the streets,
respectively. (Australian Institute of Criminology 2014a). In addition, assault on the street in 2011 was
nearly three times higher in male victims than females, with only 8% of all assaults against women
happening on the street, compared with 22% of for men. Of course there are risks involved with being
alone in certain places at certain times, and it is a matter of basic common sense regarding safety,
however the concept of stranger danger is not statistically what needs to be feared: it is the people we
know that are more likely to be a risk. (Australian Institute of Criminology

Numerous church literature attests to the aforementioned research. To further the current literature, an examination of recent quantitative metrics provides further insight into reversing church growth trends towards healthy and vital congregations. To help the Annual Conference (AC), The General Council on Finance and Administration (GCFA) constructed a statistical analysis model at the annual conference level. Paramount to the data is the utilization of worship attendance as the foundation or principal variable. The component incorporates all United Methodist Churches that have reported at least one average weekly attendee. All other variables are tied and counted based on the weekly attendance metric. While the attendance variable is imperfect, it directly ties to other measurements of church vitality. The examination below includes three main lenses to analyze the data. Observational Lenses First, the use of weekly attendance allows other variables to be split into church size categories. It is useful to find information beyond the annual conference level because small and large churches have different needs. Hence, a large number of factors listed in the report are broken down into the church s average attendance ranges. By drilling into the data, we can see differences and similarities among larger and smaller churches. The church size breakdown is based on three main factors. First, the average weekly attendance percentages split this lens at roughly the ten percent range of weekly attendance. Second, the groupings were placed into sensible breakdowns. In other words, while the groups was broken down into their 10% attendance percentages further consideration was given to relative size and feel of each grouping. Critical Evaluation Of Two Theories Of Leadership Critical Evaluation of Two Theories of Leadership Introduction At the present time, leadership, especially effective leadership plays an increasingly significant role in the organization, which can be regarded as the process of affecting activities of an organized group in its efforts forward target setting and target achievement (Daft, 2011). From this perspective, organizations in every walk of life are in pursuit of effective leadership in order to ensure the competitive advantage (Schriesheim et al., 1999). Although there is no unique definition about effective leadership, precisely, in light of Lussier Achua (2007), there are two basic requirement on effective leadership: for one thing, effective leadership will ensure that reach the target of the group can be reached effectively; for another, leadership can impose positive influence on the group members, and motivate them to Maximum their potentials. To ensure leadership effective, several leadership theories are put forward and are adopted by different organizations. Some widely accepted theories include Trait Approach, Style Approach, Situational Approach, New Leadership Approach and Post charismatic Post transformational (Western, 2013). Beyond doubt, they have their pros and cons, and they could play their role to guarantee the effectiveness of leadership as long as they are applied in an appropriate condition. However, the outcomes of the War on Iraq will not change the long lasting and passionate traditions and memories that have been held in the country for decades. One major event that happened in Iraq s history is that on October 3, 1932 Iraq was established as an independent nation. Iraq has always been a country in which respect and generosity have been highly valued and play an important cultural role in everyday life. Additionally, approximately ninety five percent of Iraqis are Muslim, and therefore Islam is the official religion of this nation (Gutierrez 1). Furthermore, Iraq is a ... Lastly, the War on Terror has been a very unfortunate happening for the entire world, but even more so specifically for those living in the Middle East. After the United States invaded Iraq due to the belief that they had weapons of mass destruction, Saddam Hussein was killed, and the country was forever changed. Three of the many cultural practices in Iraq include food, marriage, and education. In the Middle East the the traditional meal includes rice with soup or sauce, and accompanied by lamb and vegetables (Culture of Iraq 4). Traditionally in Iraq, having an arranged marriage at a young age was a standard procedure. As of roles in the family, girls were mostly taught to take after the roles of their mothers, which was to take care of the household. On the other hand boys were taught to be hard working and dominate. In Iraq, their schools teach children about religion and were very strict. A critical factor in everyday life for them is to hold values and claim responsibility for themselves and their families. The majority of Iraqis practice the Muslim religion but there is still a small percentage of Iraqis that practice the Christian religion. For example, every Friday afternoon, Muslims gather at the Mosque to pray (Ghabra 10). On the other hand, for Christians, Sundays are a holy day for prayer ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The theory, Special Luke, is proven many times within Luke s portrayal of Jesus s genealogy, birth, and young childhood. The Gospel of Luke began with chronicle of John the Baptist. An angel appeared to Zechariah, the father of John, and announced that John the Baptist would be born. This was a unique beginning because John the Baptist paved the way for Jesus and his ministry. Mary was then visited by Angel Gabriel who announced the birth of Jesus. Mary then relied [h]ere am I, the servant of the Lord; let it be with me according to your word (Luke 1:38). The narrative continued on with Mary visiting her cousin Elizabeth, John the Baptist s mother. Elizabeth then gives birth to her son and on the eighth day he is circumcised and named John. Luke decided to tell the nativity story in Mary s perspective. This emphasized how everyone was accepted in God s kingdom and women were disciples of God. Joseph and Mary had to travel to Judea from Nazareth, their hometown, for registration. This led Mary to deliver Jesus in a barn somewhere in Bethlehem. Shepherds nearby were notified of the Messiah s birth through angels. Eight days after Jesus s birth, he was circumcised and named. Jesus was then presented to God in the Temple in Jerusalem. Regulatory Review Commission Case Analysis Essay Regulatory Review Commission Inefficiencies in Operating the Operations Centre Executive Summary Overview The Regulatory Review Commission s (R.R.C.) operations centre has recently run into issues with handling an employee, Brian Coffey. Coffey s manager, Monique Ricard, is contemplating how to handle Coffey s behaviour, who has been consistently late to work, is missing deadlines, and even not showing up to work. Ricard is looking for an answer as to how she can possibly terminate or transfer Coffey, as his behaviour has not been documented sufficiently. Coffey consistently arrives at work late, and takes extended breaks. Coffey has even gone so far as to set an alarm for when his breaks begin and when he can go home. Coffey s tardiness reached a new pinnacle when he failed to show up to work for a Monday and part of a Tuesday, without informing Ricard of his absence. The most alarming concern Coffey poses to the R.R.C. is his attitude towards meeting deadlines. Consistently Coffey either submits work just before or after the required deadlines for assignments. Ricard has confronted Coffey several times about his behaviour, and Coffey, stubborn to change, refuses to believe he needs to improve. Another major problem the R.R.C. is facing is an issue experienced by many government offices. Job security is basically ensured at the R.R.C. and the process to terminate an employee is extensive and time consuming. All efforts must be taken to first make a reasonable effort to assist the employee in improving their performance. If the employee can t perform the duties of their position, an effort must be made to move them to a position they are capable of performing. If the employee is incompetent for any available position, only then can an employee be terminated. The biggest issue comes when the employer needs to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Agile Methodologies And Rapid Application Development Essay Agile Methodologies Rapid Application Development: A Comparison Agile Methodologies Rapid Application Development look to improve the SDLC by using a framework and requirements to complete projects. The paths that both AM and RAD take to get to the finish line can differ immensely, which can ultimately lead to varying results. Agile Methodologies Matharu, Mishra, Singh, Upadhyay (2015, p. 1) state that, agile methods are characterized by shorter development cycles, higher customer interaction, incremental delivery, frequent redesign with accommodation of changes necessitated by dynamic user requirements. The Agarwal et al. text explores three of the most popular agile methods, Scrum, Extreme Programming (EP), and Kanban. All of these agile methods follow The Agile Manifesto (Beck, et al., 2001). Scrum. Scrum manages the full SDLC in short iterations called sprints. Each sprint is a smaller, full, SDLC. There are three very important roles within a scrum process, the scrum master, development team, and product owner. Collaboration is at the center of this methodology. Scrum attempts to utilize unique skills within the team to their maximum ability. Daily meetings are called to review the status of the project and assign resources where they are needed. A product and sprint backlog are maintained to provide insight on tasks, steps, and requirements to complete and meet for the ongoing project. Assess the impact of interference by foreign powers on China s development in the 20th century During the 20th century China underwent a massive transformation. In the early 1900s China was a mass of land lacking any real political cohesion and so was plagued by disputes between the many ruling warlords. However, by the year 2000 China was considered a major contender on the world stage and still is today; it almost seems certain that China will become the most powerful nation on earth in the next 50 years. This major transformation is seen to be a great success of China, considering the relatively short amount of time in which it was accomplished, but the question still remains as to whether entire credit should be given to China ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Despite the burgeoning hope of a strong independent China, free of the exploitation of foreign powers, Sun Yat Sen s aims were not achieved. However, this laid the basis for China s ideal of developing their own independence. A politician of great significance was Mao Zedong, the first Chairman of the People s Republic of China. He had possibly the largest impact on the development of China, particularly with policies such as his agricultural reform. Foreign interference, by way of Japan s invasion (1937 49), had had a great negative effect on economic development. Their original intent to exploit China s resources was manifested in mass murder across the country (the rape of Nanking being a focussed example of this) and such destruction of infrastructure and mass looting that instances of cannibalism became quite widespread. Hence, it was to Mao that much of the task of reforming and rebuilding fell. Mao s greatest achievement, and the core of any development free of foreign interference, was his success in harnessing the unquenchable spirit of the Chinese people. Belonging Of A Sisterhood Of Arms Belonging to a Sisterhood of Arms Despite having been involved in the military since the American Revolution, women are most often overlooked as being a soldier. While many people think it is respectful to go up and thank a person for their service and duties in the military, most often they insult women by not acknowledging them as a soldier, because society still sees military personnel as a male based society. There is a fallacy to this stigma. Almost anyone can point out a man who is in the service, whether or not he is in uniform. Although it may not be easy to tell that I was a soldier in one point in time. The main reason is, is because I am a woman. There are not many physical attributes for a female that gives any tell tale signs like a person would see with a male member with his high and thigh hair cut and freshly shaven face. The only sure way to know that I was a soldier is if I had said so, or if I was seen wearing one of my uniforms with my hair tied neatly in a low bun; however when I am in my civys (military term for civilian clothes), it s almost impossible to tell unless one is very observant in human behaviors. Another way to tell how a woman may be a military member is how we talk; we usually use military jargon such as female/male , using the NATO alphabet, FUBAR (F*** Up Beyond All Recognition) , and many others we may find reasons to use in our civilian lives but can only find a military term to express how we feel about it. We work together on planning our papers through a step by step scaffolding process and modeling so that students have assistance with the planning process. The next stage is for me to walk around to monitor the students and determine what assistance they need. I check for understanding of the assignment and make suggestions as needed and to confirm they will be able to write this paper. During this time, I will assist them with any spelling issues they may have. In addition, I conference one on one with each student and will help them with spelling during this time. Since I don t teach spelling, this process has worked the best. Finally, I do teach cursive handwriting so this is a skill that we work on weekly. My goal is to finish each of the letters in the first semester and practice these skills in the second. We are departmentalized so I am only able to see their work in writing and science. We do write a science research paper on the animal of their choice which gives them the opportunity to apply their writing skills to science. In addition, we write an instruction manual for a simple machine. My goal is to integrate writing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 22. The Colossal Statue Of King Tuthankhamun And The Lamassu The Colossal Statue of King Tuthankhamun and the Lamassu are amazing works of art. Of the eight works assigned, these two particularly caught my eye. The two pieces, though very different, have many similarities. In this paper, I will discuss these similarities and differences of style in terms of their overall shape, proportions, and individual parts. The Lamassu of the Assyrian kingdom was quite large in size as it guarded the entrances to the throne room of the Assyrian king. The size of the winged bull with a human head was surely an important part in guarding the gates and instilling fear in all that passed it. It is a relief sculpture of mostly high relief elements as the wings are the only parts that appear to be in low relief. The entire body, except the head, is in profile view. I believe that this was done purposely to create a gaze between the Lamassu and whoever passed it in order to instill fear. The head is also not proportioned with the rest of the body as it appears smaller than that of which it should be. The head of the Lamassu is also decorated with possibly a crown of some sort, earrings, and a beard. His beard has a distinct pattern that creates texture amongst as well as within his earrings. This same textured pattern can also be seen in different areas of the bull body as well as the bottom of the tail. The bull body is strong and muscular as veins can even be seen bulging out in the muscles of its legs. All of these details are important as they also ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Contemporary artist, Vincent Valdez, uses his art of photography to make people aware of the targeted victims of the executions with the goal of creating a systematic change. The system he wishes to change is the social hierarchy which is the organization of people at different ranks in an administrative body. • 25. Public Schooling And Public Education With the many diverse characteristics of the Unites States, perhaps the most troubling is the rising gap in the distribution of wealth. As the wealth gap in the United States rises exponentially, the gap in the quality of public schooling rises with it. For a country that prides itself in prestigious outlets of education, the system of public schooling seems to be miserably failing. Public education, a system that some fight to destroy while others fight to preserve, is perhaps the only source of academic opportunity for many individuals living in this country. The fact that someone can live in a certain area and receive a higher quality of public education than someone else living in a different area in the same country even in the same state is a problem that should not trouble a progressive democratic society. Unfortunately, areas of lower socioeconomic status receive much less funding than areas of higher socioeconomic status, where property taxes account for 45% of funding in public school districts. Naturally, the impoverished residents of poor neighborhoods pay a harsh price in this situation, sending their children to an underfunded school with little to no resources, where sometimes teachers must supply the classroom from their own pocket. As Rogerson and Fernandez note, a system that allows the accidents of geography and birth to determine the quality of education received by an individual is inimical to the idea of equal opportunity in the marketplace ... And, when I tried, on the level of ideas and intellectual activity, to reclaim my negritude, it was snatched away from me. (101) Frantz Fanon was a Martinique born, Afro Caribbean psychiatrist, philosopher, revolutionary, and writer whose works are influential in the fields of post colonial studies, Marxism, and critical theory. He was born in 1925 and died in 1961. The quote above is from Fanon s first book, Black Skin, White Masks (1952), originally titled as An Essay for the Disalienation of Blacks. Fanon, in this book is providing a prognosis about the lived experience of the black man. He is concerned with describing the place that is held by blacks in the mid 20th century and illustrates the issues of race and racism and to point the reader toward a better and free future for all men. The quote above shows how oppression gives rise to ways of being. Fanon s experience and the background of the time period he was living in justifies his hostility when he argues that the black man is constantly trying, but never fully accomplishing, to be white and to integrate into the white man s world. What Is The Significance Of The Gold Rush In Canada History may not be everyone s favourite subject however, there are some fascinating events that have happened in Canada s history in which one of them was the Gold Rush Era. In Canada, the three key events in the Gold Rush Era included the Fraser River, Cariboo, and Klondike gold rushes. A gold rush is when a numerous amount of individuals migrate to a specific region to get hold of newly discovered gold in pursuit of riches. The Fraser River Gold Rush was British Columbia s first significant gold rush. In 1857, a local man was taking a drink from the Thompson River when he noticed a tiny glittering pebble. That pebble was then discovered to be gold and with that the history of British Columbia was changed for eternity. In 1858, when the word spilled out that there was gold near the Fraser River, more than 30, 000 people flocked to the shores of the Fraser River to Lillooet, British Columbia to find gold. A significant amount of seekers were Americans looking for new opportunities after the California gold rush had come to an end. Yet, the types of legal assistance might not always be the same, depending on the individual industry and situational analysis of the business in question. This is a comparison of traditional and nontraditional litigation services that are often used by contemporary businesses, with special attention paid to Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR). First, to understand the newer, nontraditional forms of litigation it is imperative to set up a sound foundation for understanding the more traditional forms of litigation. Essentially, traditional litigation is the process of going to court to handle disputes of both business and civil matters. As such, litigation is the traditional process, whereby both parties use the court system and procedures to resolve their dispute (Lewis, 2012). Here, legal advice and representation is provided by lawyers who act on behalf of the parties involved in the dispute. In this traditional form, the parties can not talk to each other at all during the context of the dispute process. In contrast to the more traditional styles of litigation, Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) is much different. Essentially, this more alternative style to approaching litigation needs aims to resolve disputes before they have to actually go through the expensive and complicated process of litigation. Here the research claims that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Literary Devices In The Alchemist The book, The Alchemist, written by Paulo Coelho, conveys many messages relating to life and society. The book outlines the story of a boy named Santiago who goes on a journey to the pyramids of Egypt, to find treasure. Along his way he learns about the concept of predetermined destiny, and the soul of the universe. One major moral shown within the book, is the idea that you should always pursue your dreams, despite minor obstacles, as you never know where it may take you. One literary device that conveys this message, is the device of irony. One example of irony in this book, is how Santiago set out to find the girl he wanted to see, but ended up finding the King of Salem instead. This is ironic, as this book shows how your destiny is predetermined, meaning that his destiny led him to learning about the concept of destiny. He followed his destiny which led him to a place he never expected, but ended up taking him on a journey. This shows readers to pursue what they want, because even if they don t end up where they originally ended up, they may still end up somewhere else. A second example of irony relating the Coelho s overall message was Santiago actually meeting the King. Santiago originally tried to ignore the King, as he just saw him as an old man. However, due to his morals, he acknowledges the King, and learns, on top of the concept of the Soul of the Universe, that many try to hide from their destinies. With every aspect of our media culture now fair game for commercial exploitation, we can look forward to the full scale commercialization of sports, arts, and education, the disappearance of notions of public service from public discourse, and the degeneration of journalism, political coverage, and children s programming under commercial pressure. The divergent views have drawn different interpretations of the intended meaning and the context of its existence. Many scholars believe that The Parson s Tale was Chaucer s final work. Some people feel Chaucer s Retraction was the final one in the collection, while others doubt that Chaucer was the real author of the repudiation. This dilemma is implored by the fact the retraction completely disowns the earlier versions of Chaucer s works. They explain what he sought to achieve and how the retraction relates to The Parson s Tale and the whole framework of The Canterbury Tales. The fact that Chaucer s main reason of retracting his tales in The Canterbury Tales is to avoid accusations arising from writing some of the tales is no secret. These conditions could be, the condition of the building is in, the weather, how many people are in the structure, or what is going on inside that structure. A fire is defined as the rapid oxidation with evolution of heat and light (flame) or as an uncontrolled combustion. An investigation happens at every fire so that way the cause and origin are known (DeHaan, 2). A specific fire happened on February 20, 2003, at a night in Rhode Island. • 47. The Streets Are Safer For Women Than They Are For Men In reality, the streets are much safer for women than they are for men. Critique this statement using the victimisation/fear paradox AND with reference to current statistics. The perceived and potential threat for street violence is a significant social issue and has led to public fear; it has been imbedded so deep within our minds that it is almost instinctual to be constantly on the lookout for danger when out of the home. Beginning in early childhood through learning about stranger danger , (Foster 2015), children, particularly females, are being taught to avoid certain situations because of this fear. According to Jackson (2009), there is a sense of control, comfortability and familiarity within the home, and it is the unknown and a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Australian Institute of Criminology 2014b). This disproportionate relationship is called the victimisation fear paradox; where there is a sizeable difference between an individual s level of fear experienced compared to the statistical likelihood of actually falling victim to crime. (Ross 2012). When considering women s most feared types of victimisation when alone on the streets sexual assault and murder, (State Government of Victoria 2015), it is statistically more likely that these things will happen in an individual s place of residence; 55% of Australian murders and 60% of reported sexual assaults in 2011 occurred in the victim s home, with only 16% and 7% occurring on the streets, respectively. (Australian Institute of Criminology 2014a). In addition, assault on the street in 2011 was nearly three times higher in male victims than females, with only 8% of all assaults against women happening on the street, compared with 22% of for men. Of course there are risks involved with being alone in certain places at certain times, and it is a matter of basic common sense regarding safety, however the concept of stranger danger is not statistically what needs to be feared: it is the people we know that are more likely to be a risk.
