Qht1 Task4
Overcoming communication barriers
There are four main types of barriers in communication. Any of these barriers can ruin the
chances of success in any given project or task that we are trying to achieve here at XYZ Company.
I was asked by our Vice President to give some suggestions and guidelines to help you avoid these
barriers, which will allow your team to run more productively, with less need to take corrective
actions, and decrease frustration within the team.
Let us start with process barrier. There are specific steps needed for a successful communication.
The process barrier includes your ability to create a message, presentation, project plan, etc. The
next steps are assuring that the message is transmitted to the receiver ... Show more content on

Determine best form of communication based on complexity, number of people involved, needs
from cross functional team members. o Short term / one time requests use of email, or telephone is
appropriate.
Be clear on need. Ask for response to show understanding by receiver. Give opportunity for
questions as needed. o Technical communications hold them person to person, or in meeting(s).
Use Power point presentations, with handouts, questions and answer sections, note taker for issues
to answer outside of the meeting. o Executive high level reasons, coasts and benefits to the
company.
Give a brief background of issue. If you must use a slide presentation, keep to a minimum. In
person works well, plan on leaving 25% of allotted time for questions. o For larger groups / cross
functional communications
Kick off meetings. Have team members sit at circular tables.
Perform some team building techniques.
Brainstorming to confirm understanding level
The next barrier type is personal. These barriers can occur for both the sender and receiver. Ones
ability to send or receive information is effected by many factors. Mood, prejudices against another
person, another team, your listening skills, method of communication, all can lead to erroneous
interpretations, or level of understanding. Here are tips to help gain overall better communication
with your team, peers, and your manager(s).

chemical to physical. Biological contaminants such as pathogenic bacteria, can be caused by under
cooked food, or can be spread by workers who do not properly wash their hands. Chemical

During their investigation they learned that the age of infected people ranged from less than one
year to ninety nine years old. Out of the close to nine hundred people infected, forty nine percent of
them were children under the age of eighteen, and fifty six percent of all were female.
The CDC collected cucumbers, tied to the infection, from retail stores across forty states affected by
the outbreak and determined the link was the produce being imported from Mexico. Once the
source of the cause of the outbreak was determined, the CDC issued a public service announcement
stating what had caused the outbreak and where the infected cucumbers originated.
Andrew and Williamson Fresh Produce issued a recall and collected the majority of the
contaminated cucumbers by September 24th, 2015. This, however, was not the end of the outbreak.
At the end of September 2015, there were one hundred and twenty seven more confirmed patients

Character Analysis Of Eleanor And Park
Eleanor, a character from the book Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell, is a very complicated
character. Her seemingly pessimistic and self conscious approach to life can seem strange or even
incomprehensible, but when her character development and past experiences are more closely
considered, these views are much easier to understand. Her views are affected by three major
factors: her family s financial status, her abusive home life, and her endurance of constant bullying.
While there are multiple other motivations behind her perceptions, these three factors all help push
her to the state of internalizing much of her personal life, keeping it away from individuals she
finds herself closest to, including her boyfriend Park. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The second big factor that affects Eleanor s views and perceptions is her abusive home life caused
by her stepfather, Richie. Consequently, this leads to her having a constant fearof seemingly small
things and an unusually prominent want to keep her home life and her school life separate,
therefore causing her to keep many of her struggles to herself. An example of this is found on
page 151 in which an excerpt from the book states, Where would she go this time? Back to the
Hickman s? Hey, remember the time my mom asked if I could stay with you guys for a few
days, and then she didn t come back for a year? This excerpt demonstrates how she has an innate
fear of her stepfather and of being kicked out; as a result, she often avoids anything she even
thinks might anger Richie. Another example of her fear and isolation from her own home life is
a quote from the character Park, her boyfriend, on page 105 which states, She wouldn t talk about
her family or her house. She wouldn t talk about anything that happened before she moved to the
neighborhood or anything that happened after she got off the bus. Eleanor is very much a
character that keeps her personal life close. She bottles up her problems and fears instead of
sharing them with other close people, including Park. The last big factor that affects Eleanor s
views and perceptions is the fact that she must deal with

Comparing King Henry The V, Romeo And Juliet, And Much Ado...
What do the Prodigal Son,The Boy who Cried Wolf and Much Ado about nothing, have in
common? The answers is the moral of redemption as the main theme in the story, although it is
easy to assume that the Prodigal Son and the Boy who cried wolf seem to be easily understand as
common stories of redemption. What does Much ado about nothing share? Much ado is also a story
about redemption and forgiveness. It seems very hard to understand that shakespeare wrote about
morals and character. Although Shakespeare stories often seem entertaining and enthralling, there
appear to be hidden themes in three of his best known stories, King Henry the V, Romeo and Juliet
and Much Ado about Nothing! These three stories contain themes that were important and
applicable in the 16th century and even today the underlying themes in these stories can apply to
our lives. King Henry the V, a story of comadre and valor, a story in which resonates the might of
the Saxons, the valiant french and the rewards for being loyal!... Show more content on

Thank You Ma Am By Langston Hughes
Thank You Ma am is an American short story written by Langston Hughes. The story was
published in 1958; however, some people, including me, seem to believe that it was written in the
1930 s due to the racial undertones (www.americanliterature.com 1). Also, Langston wrote many
of his short stories in the 1930 s. In the story, a boy named Roger tries to steal a purse from what
seems to be a large, African American, elderly lady named Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones.
When Roger reaches out and snatches the purse, he loses his balance and falls flat on his back.
Mrs. Jones simply gives him a swift kick in the rear and tells him to get up. Then, instead of
continuing to beat him, she sees his dirty face, and her motherly instincts resurface. She carries the
boy home, makes him wash his face, cooks him a hot meal, and then gives him the money that he
was trying to steal. Why she does this, I do not quite understand, but the traits such as her size,
strength, name, and motherly instincts may provide the reader with a clear explanation of the
woman Langston Hugheswas portraying throughout this story as well as provide insight as to why
others have seen the character as a symbolic feature of slavery.
The story repetitively states that Mrs. Jones is a large woman which is very significant to the
story. For instance, one quote says, She was a large woman with a large purse that had everything
in it but hammer and nails (Hughes 1). I imagine her to be a big woman with long,

Social Themes In Cry, The Beloved Country By Alan Paton
Cry, the Beloved Country by Alan Paton In the novel, Cry, the Beloved Country by Alan Paton, it
follows the narratives of Stephen Kumalo and James Jarvis as they struggle to keep their families
together and deal with the loss of their sons. During the story, Stephen Kumalo shows the readers
his country through his eyes as he travels to Johannesburgto save his sister, Gertrude. As he finds
Gertrude, he comes to know that his son, Absalom, has been caught up in criminal activities during
his tenure in Johannesburg. So, Kumalo tracks down his son to find out that he killed James Jarvis
s son, Arthur Jarvis. This shows the change that moving to an urbanized area can make on a person.
A man that was once kind, humble, and living on the farm with his familyturned into an anxious
and scared man in a big city. In the novel, Cry, the Beloved Country by Alan Paton, the motif of
contrasting images found in the rural versus the urban landscape is depicted through the
difference in social class, lack of care for the human life, and the destruction of families. The
difference in social class is a glaring problem in the novel, Cry, the Beloved... Show more content

The World And A Grand Symbol Of Papal Authority Essay
During the Late Renaissance period, the largest church in the world and a grand symbol of
papal authority was built within the territory of the Vatican City. Principally designed by famous
architects, such as Michelangelo, Donato Bramante, Carlo Maderno and Gian Bernini Lorenzo,
St Peter s Basilica built between 1506 to 1626 is one of the greatest Renaissance architectures
and is regarded as the greatest of all churches of Christendom . Believed to be the site of Saint
Peter s tomb, one of the twelve apostles of Jesus and considered to be the first pope, the ground
in which the basilica stands is one of the holiest places in the world. Evidence state that the tomb
of Saint Peter is located directly beneath the altar of the Basilica. Due to being such a holy place,
the Basilica contains many tombs of popes and famous religious sculptures, such as the Pieta of
Michelangelo. Admired for its Renaissance architecture, with a fusion with Baroque architecture
in the later years of building, the Basilica of St. Peter also holds great meaning; thus in order to
emphasize its importance, it took several years to design and completely build the dome (and the
Basilica itself). Consequently, the greatest architects and artists were involved . The Roman public
hall, known as a basilica, is usually a rectangular building with side aisles behind the rows of
columns which support the main walls. The focus of attention is at the end opposite the entrance,
where a raised platform is

Analysis Of Boyz R Us By Scott Monk
In the narrative: Boyz r us by Scott Monk, we comprehend the author s depiction of Mitch. That he
is an incorrigible young adolescent with many obligations, upon his shoulders. We perceive that
Mitch is confined within a gang, a gang that is pessimistically changing his life, it is also having
disdainful influence on his deportments and it is carrying out that influence with him in his life. We
are exposed to the theme of changein Mitch s life when encountering some drastically different:
characters, setting, situations and outcomes. The author certifies Mitch s life one step at a time, by
exploring the depth of Mitch s predicaments, in other accounts; inquiring into the theme of
adolescent etiquettes and by positioning us in the centre of the contingencies.
In the first occurrence of the novel Boyz r us , by Scott Monk. We find a disobedient/troublesome
boy finding his way out of class. We soon realise that the troublesome young adolescent is Mitchel
Jarret (our main protagonist), it is not yet certain that he is a protagonist or antagonist, at this point.

The Fiercest Rivalry In College Football In Birmingham,...
The Origins of the fiercest rivalry in all of college football began in Birmingham, Alabama in 1893.
At the time, Birmingham was known for its iron production, hence the college match up was
named the Iron Bowl, which comes from Birmingham s historic role in the steel industry. The teams
met in Birmingham s Lakeview Park, with Auburn (then the Agricultural and Mechanical Collegeof
Alabama) winning 32 22. Both schools, Alabama and Auburn launched footballprograms in 1892,
Alabama considers this game to be the final one of that season, while Auburn considers it to be the
first of the 1893 season. Auburn won the very first game, which took place in February due to the
University s football schedule. The two teams met again in November of the same year, the

have come at a worse time. The Crimson Tide gave a 1 8 1 Tigers team their biggest beating of the

The Long Road For Women s Suffrage Analysis
The Victorian era was a time of tremendous advancement in almost every aspect of society. These
Changes affected the British society, economy and social standards. Although it may have been
considered as a period of development, it was likewise a time of inconvenience and anxiety because
of the Industrial Revolution in which England turns into the first modern country. Thus, the
Industrial Revolution brought benefits as well as wretchedness to the British people, specifically to
women. British women in the nineteenth century lived in an age characterized by genderinequality.
At the beginning of the century, women relished few of the legal, social, or political rights, as they

Long Road for Women s Suffrage, begins with the feminist s arguments about women which
warmed the demand for the women s suffrage in the late 19th century and early twentieth century. It
analyses in detail the propaganda material used by the suffrage movement and examines the

Egalitarianism In Harrison Bergeron
In modern society, discrimination occurs on a daily basis and these social injustices allude to
egalitarianism, the notion of equality among citizens in every manner, as the ideal solution.
However, would total equality actually better society or rather, trammel citizens? Kurt Vonnegut s
Harrison Bergeron succeeds in addressing this question and exposes the consequences of
complete equality. His short story is set in an egalitarian society where the government handicaps
individuals who are naturally above average to achieve total equality. The text follows a man
named George Bergeron who has an intellectual handicap due to his high IQ and his average wife,
Hazel. The two have a son named Harrison who is naturally superior to all as he is gifted... Show

A prominent symbol within the text is the handicap which represents the government s control over
the population. In the beginning of the story, George is introduced as a man with above average
intelligence so, he is required by law to wear [his handicap ear radio] at all times (Vonnegut 33).
George is unable to have stimulating ideas due to his impediment because it plays loud noises to
interrupt his train of thought. The handicaps are a mechanism for the government to subdue those
who appear to be a threat and censor citizens thoughts. Hence, these impediments are a symbol of
governmental control over the people as an attempt to achieve total equality. Consequently, the
egalitarian based government heavily regulates society through handicap restrictions on individuals
to erase the attributes that makes them unique. Moreover, Harrison Bergeron himself is a symbol of
the rebellion against the government and the repercussions of implementing total equality. While
on live television, Harrison breaks free from his impediments and begins to dance gracefully with
a ballerina in which [n]ot only are the laws of the land abandoned, but the law of gravity and the
laws of motion as well (Vonnegut 36). In addition to breaking the amendments by removing his
handicaps, Harrison also moves

How Comedy Makes Us Better People Summary
In the BBC article How comedy makes us better people Mary O Hara claims comedy holds a
very relevant place in not only British politics and culture, but in the entire world because it can
be used to comprehend and come to terms with confusing events or tragedies, challenge the
authority of our governments, and destroy bigoted states of mind. Humor continues to mystify
the people who study it to this day. Why does humor play a major part in our everyday lives?
What is the significance of it? O Hara interviews experts from many different fields discussing
comedy and its impact on the emotions, politics, and differing points of view. For instance, the
tragedy of 9/11 had many jokes following its events because people around the world were trying
to grasp why such a terrible thing... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From neuroscientists to comedians themselves, O Hara litters the article with reliable experts to
ensure the points made in the article are diverse and rooted in credibility. Without these
resources, saying that [c]omedy is more than just a pleasant way to pass an evening (2) would
be disregarded as a matter of opinion. By supplying each point with an array of examples, O
Hara manages to show the reader that many beside herself share her points. After planting a
statement, O Hara makes sure that she backs up her claims with plenty of evidence. When
examining how comedy changes people s views of certain minority groups, O Hara lays out two
different examples of real situations where this is put into affect. She touches on the homosexual
community, disabled community, and even on a man who shared his experience from being a
policeman to expose nonsensical policies (5). By both using multiple resources and sharing
numerous examples, O Hara successfully convinced the reader that comedy does indeed hold a
very significant place in our

Beauty Of Climbing In Yosemite National Park
Beauty of Climbing
In the early days, you noticed El Cap, but we didn t pay much attention to it because it was kinda
quote unquote out of the question. Royal Robbins
A climber said this meaning there are things impossible to climb but if you dedicate enough time
and effort, you can do it. This was said by the first person to team and climb the west face and
Salathe wall of El Capitan. This shows any climber can do anything, you just have to work.
No matter how much or how little skill a rock climber has, climbing in Yosemite National Parkcan

Photosynthesis of Elodea
Photosynthesis
Abstract: An experiment was carried out to determine how certain factors such as light intensity
and availability of carbon dioxide, affected the rate of photosynthesis. The rate of photosynthesis
was measure by the amount of oxygen produce (cm3/min).
A valid conclusion was made and most of the results were in accordance with the prediction,
although there were some anomalies present. The errors and limitations were evaluated and some
improvements were suggested.
Introduction:

Summary Of La Belle Dame Sans Merci
Deceived
In John Keats La Belle Dame sans Merci, the speaker express his love for this fairy woman where
he explains, I met a lady in the meads, Full beautiful a faery s child, (13,14). But he was Lured
(33), to sleep with the woman who he thought once loved him and as she said, I love the true (28).
Why then if she love thee does he feel the darkness of horrid warning gapГЁd ? Was it all just a
dream? Or reality?
Firstly, the speaker as I assume is a man because he is talking about a lady he met which he
called her a faery s child, (14). As he said in the poem he was, Alone and palely loitering (Keats,
2), That certain stanza made me pictured a man alone with no sense of direction no sense of
love. Lonesome. But they never went into much detail on what he was doing or where he came
from. Moving on, just from a few lines into the poem the speaker s tone was coming off as
melancholy. I got the melancholy tone because the speaker seemed very sad and gloomy with
phrases as, O what can ail thee (1) almost sound like a cry for help or just a cry out of last hope.
He then goes on to say I met a lady in the meads, ( 13 ), as stated previously but, this is when the
poem turns from melancholy and alone to happy and almost hopeful.
Continuing on, in this poem the speaker became infatuated with this lady. As he said, I made a
garland for her head, And bracelets too, and fragrant zone; (17,18 ) he begins to fall for her and
starts to be very taken with her

Summary Of The Rime Of The Ancyent Marinere
In the poem The Rime of the Ancyent Marinere by Samuel Coleridge, the Marinere attains a change
of mindset about the sea snakes he encounters on his journey. This moment in the poem is more
than a simple shift from the disliking to affinity for an animal; the moment shows a larger change
within the Marinere himself. When one views this in conjunction with the concept of seeing in
Carlos Castanedas novel A Separate Reality, one can discover that the Marinere completes the act
of seeing. In realizing this feat of the Marinere, it portrays him as a sentimental character than
may one first assume. By being able to see, the Marinere creates the shift in perspective regarding
the sea snakes and gains respect for all beings by the end of the work.
The Marinere s initial view of the sea snakes is an extension of his perception regarding his
unfavorable situation. The Mariner s first view of the sea snakes is one filled with contempt,
which is caused by his overall feelings of despair and loneliness he feels for being the sole
survivor on the ship. At this point, the Mariner relates that he is alone and his soul is in agony
(IV, 224 227). He further describes his separation from the other beings present observing his
fellow crewmen now the dead men that lay on the deck as beautiful (IV, 228 229), the living sea
snakes as a million million slimy things, and then describes himself as simply liv[ing] without any

Psychopathy And The Physiological Etiology Of Psychopathy
Psychopathy is a topic that receives more than its fair share of attention in the media. The very
concept of psychopathy simultaneously fascinates and terrifies people as they attempt to
understand the motivation of people who they deem to be very different than themselves. However,
people rarely stop to consider the physiological differences in individuals with psychopathy,
focusing instead on outward displays of sensational aggression. In order to assess the physiological
components of psychopathy, it is necessary to consider theories on the physiological etiology of
psychopathy, the ways in which the prefrontal cortexand amygdala work together to enhance
psychopathic symptomology, and the ways in which lesions on the prefrontal cortex... Show more

Much like the University of Pennsylvania study, results indicated that reduced functioning in parts
of the brain involved in moral decision making and the expression of emotion may help to explain
psychopathy (Glenn et al, 2009; Marsh et al., 2011). Another theory of the physiological etiology of
psychopathy focuses on the role of serotonergic functionality. As serotonin functions to maintain
mood balance, deficits in the functionality of serotonin have the potential to be hugely detrimental.
A study published in Motivation and Emotion analyzed the role of serotonin in high levels of
aggression, a key component of the expression of psychopathy. Researchers also proposed a
connection between high levels of testosterone and low levels serotonin working together to
increase both aggression and impulsivity (Montoya et al., 2012). These findings complement those
in a study conducted by researchers at Radboud University, which consisted of a between groups
comparison between psychopathy and sociopathy in terms of dysfunction in emotional processing,
HPA axis functioning, and serotonergic profiles, as well as polymorphisms in serotonergic genes
and behavioral endophenotypes (Yildirim Derksen, 2013). Yildirim and Derksen found that issues

Kran By Heart Analysis
The HBO Documentary, Koran by Heart, directed by Greg Barker, further reiterates the
importance of the Quran on the daily lives of Muslims. Though in the past, we have learned that
the Quran is the holy text of Islam, making stark comparisons to the holy texts of other
Monotheistic religions such as the Bible for the Christians and the Torah for the Jews, but in
retrospect, the Quran delves into other matters beyond just religion. Dr. Salem Abdel Galil,
Deputy Minister of Egypt s Ministry of Religious Affairs, says that the Koran for Muslims is not
just a book of worship, but it serves as a guide for life. In other words, the Quran is not just a
compilation of religious accounts; rather it holds information to further develop a follower s
interpersonal and communicative skills along with guidance on how to live a tolerant and peaceful
life with others. Another takeaway from this film, and what I believe to be one of the central
messages that director Greg Barker is trying to convey, is that the Quran is the ultimate source of
unification for Muslims. This is apparent throughout the documentary, which initially starts with the
description of the annual Quran reciting competition held in Cairo, Egypt. This competition brings
together approximately 110 reciters, of all ages and both genders, from a total of 70 different
countries. The majority of the participants are not native Arabic speakers, the language of the
Quran, but yet they have all memorized the Quran in Arabic.

The For A Jubilee During The Sizzling Summer Months
As the calm brackish waters lapse onto the shores of Point Clear to Daphne, many people are
hopeful for a Jubilee during the sizzling summer months. The neighbors of this community always
alert one another to the sound of bells ringing and the eager cries of Jubilee! Everyone will come
rushing down to the shore with their laundry baskets, gigs, nets, sacks, and almost anything you can

Peter Singer on Equality
In recent years a lot of suppressed groups have worked in an organized and active way towards
one particular goal: equality. The typical example is the Black Liberation movement, which insisted
on putting an end to the prejudice and discrimination that has made them inferior to other people.
The instant call of the black liberation movement and its success became an ideal for other
oppressed groups to go after. During the time other movements started to develop, putting the focus
on such issues as gay, women s and African American rights. Peter Singer gave a start to animal
rightsmovement, paying particular attention to how in former time permissible types of
discrimination and prejudice came to be seen as unjustly and dishonestly bias towards specific set
of people and that the hour has come for a much the same dedication to the moral and legal
entitlement of species that walk on four legs instead of two.
Singer starts his argument by supposing that the principle of equality or principle of equal
consideration of interests is a basic moral principle, which implies treating the interests of all
people as equally significant in spite of gender, color, or sexual orientation. Then he puts forward
the idea that we should reinterpret the theory of equality so that it relate not only just to all human
being but also to all sentient beings, by which he refers to all beings that have the ability to suffer
or enjoy happiness. Suffering is immoral, so we should stop

Memory and Fortune in the Odyssey
When scholars analyze themes of meaning in the Homeric epic The Odyssey, a common area of
focus is the significance of memory and forgetting to the story. One interpretation of the text poses
that characters being able to remember Odysseus brings about fortunate consequences for the
protagonist, while forgetting about him or his deeds leads to negative ones. However, the forgetting
of Odysseuss transgressions by the suitor s fathers at the end of the epic contradicts this as
Odysseus is spared through it. It is through the juxtaposition of Athena s requests for memory and
forgetting, respectively, at the beginning and conclusion of the epic that show the retention of the
memory of Odysseus by others is not inherently beneficial nor detrimental to him. Rather, memory
is a tool: a double edged sword that can either improve or worsen his condition based on
circumstance. What is inherent, however, is the tendency of events to progress, albeit slowly and
circuitously, towards the inevitable homecoming of Odysseus, his retaking of the seat of power,
and the return to normalcy on Icatha. Memory and forgetting merely serve as a means to achieve
that fated end, rather than being objects of meaning themselves. That the remembrance of Odysseus
by other characters helps him out later on in the epic is certainly supported by events that transpire
in the first half of the story. The action begins with Athena pleading with her father Zeus to release
Odysseus from his two decade

Role Of Cost And Price Leadership For Tesco
P4 IMPROVEMENT WORK Porters 5 Forces for Tesco. Cost and leadership Cost and price
leadership was developed by Michael porter and it was to help companies make use of a strategy
which would put them on top of their competitors known as a competitive advantage. The cost
and price leadership aim at increasing the profits and market share of Tesco s through charging
their customers lower prices, while still being able to make a profit on every sale they make.
This is beneficial to Tesco s as it will attract customers to their store rather than them going to a

Tesco began competing against Asdas, Tesco s decided to lower the cost of their prices which they
cut 25% of the price on over 380 items. This method bears advantages such as Increase in profits,
increased brand awareness, an expansion of there customer base. Disadvantages may include

Summer Camp Personal Statement
During the summer of 2016, I was a volunteer at the Ridge Meadows Child Development Centre s
Therapeutic Summer Camp. My experience at the camp was a memorable one, since I met a young
boy with ADHD. Though it was difficult to get his attention, his condition made me more aware
and got me to communicate in a more innovate way. By talking about a common interest of ours,
the sport of soccer, I was not telling him instructions or asking him for his attention, but instead
giving him mine. Besides my volunteering at the summer camp, I have been a part of many
activities, such as the VolunTEEN program and the Ridge Meadows Homeshow, all throughout
high school and the experiences have shaped who I am today.
Currently in my third year, I am volunteering at my local hospital and residential home, Baillie
House, through the VolunTEEN program as Team Leader. Being a part of the program has
opened me to a new perspective on health. I have learned to socially adapt and build strong bonds,
as well as initiate ways to help others. Furthermore, hearing residents tell their stories or taking
patients outside for a casual walk allowed me to broaden my understanding and open up as an
individual. On ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Motivation In The Scarlet Ibis, By James Hurst
Fate Overrides Motivation (Hook) Motivation, when used to push a person to their highest
potential, can cause both greatness and disappointment. (Bridge) In James Hurst s story, The
Scarlet Ibis, Brother pushes Doodle to the limit teaching Doodle activities that he would have never
had the opportunity to do without the motivationand determination to reach greatness. (FS1)
Throughout the journey of learning to walk, swim, and run, Brother motivates Doodle to keep
pushing so that he could be like the other kids before he started school. (FS2) Doodle, born
physically impaired, tries his best to follow his brother s orders and make him happy, but this leads
him to his death. (FS3) The motivation in this short story is represented by three symbols: the
scarlet ibis, the wagon, and the coffin, which all demonstrate the motivation Doodle and Brother
have to use to overcome the obstacles they face. (Thesis) Motivation can be used as a compelling
force to strive for greatness, but can lead to upsetting results when it is used to the extent as it is in
the Scarlet Ibis, by James Hurst, which is demonstrated by the symbols of (I) the scarlet ibis, (II)
the wagon, (III) and the coffin. (Topic)(I)An ibis (MA) shows up one day, by motivating itself to
travel more than it ever has, similar to Doodle, who has to walk, swim, and run, but (MB)
Doodle and the ibis end with the same fate. (Rewording of MA) The scarlet ibis and Doodle
motivate themselves to do more than expected and overcome the odds. They exhaust
themselves, but still keep pushing. (m1MA) Aunt Nicey foreshadows Doodle s fate by stating,
Dead birds is bad luck... Specially red dead birds! (Hurst 5). (m2MA) The scarlet bird means
danger is coming Doodle s way. (Rewording of MB) The ibis and Doodle accomplish a lot with
motivation, but end with the same destiny. (m1MB) When the ibis dies, Its long, graceful neck
jerked twice into an S, then straightened out, and the bird was still... Its legs were crossed and its
clawlike feet were delicately curved at rest (Hurst 5). Similar to the Ibis death, when Doodle dies,
He lay very awkwardly, with his head thrown far back, making his vermilion neck appear unusually
long and slim. His little legs,

Oxidation Titration
Introduction/Theoretical Background: A common task in chemistry is the determination of a
substance present in a product. If the product contains a substance that can be oxidized, then it is
possible to determine the number of moles of that substance by titrating the sample with a solution
of a strong oxidizing agent. In this lab, a solution of KMnO4, an oxidizing agent, will be
standardized by titrationwith a solution containing a known concentration of iron (II) ions, (Fe+).
The concentration of oxalic acid solution will be determined by titration with the MnO4 solution
that had been standardized first. The purpose of this lab is to standardize a solution of potassium

The Government And Specific Interest Groups Create Public...
In the United States, the government and specific interest groups create public policies to solve
internal problems and protect their citizens. Public policies can include any action, plan, or rule,
which relates to issues of domestic national importance. Once a certain issue becomes a concern
for a significant amount of people, it becomes a component of the national agenda, which is what
the public wants the government to acknowledge. Many of these problems are addressed because
they negatively affect a significant amount of people (Sparknotes: How Policy Gets Made). For
the past few years, one of the major issues in the United States is illegal immigration. Unlike today,
a person immigrating illegally was not a major issue years ago. Today unfortunately, there are so
many illegal immigrants from all over the world that it has become an issue no one can completely
control.
It was recorded in 2012 that approximately 40.8 million illegal immigrants live in the United States,
which makes up thirteen percent of the country. Data on the nativity of the U.S. population were
first collected 1850 decennial census. That year, there were 2.2 million immigrants in the United
States, representing almost ten percent of the total population (Nwosu, Chiamaka). What is the
total number of immigrants that have entered the United States since 2000? Approximately thirty
percent of the 40.8 million residing in America entered between 2000 and 2009 (Nwosu,

loneliness, and dreams play a role in people s lives at some point in time. An example of one of
the themes that relates to a real world scenario is everyone has or had a dream and dreams is hope

Mucormycosis And Pathogenesis Essay
Mucormycosis is an emergent and lethal infection caused by Mucoralean species. Using Mucor
circinelloides as a model of mucormycosis to identify new genetic determinants of virulence is the
aim of this work. First strategy parts from identification of genes differentially expressed during
pathogenesis, choosing zebra fish as an infection model (Fig. 1).
Figure 1. Transcriptomic analysis during infection with M. circinelloides virulent and avirulent
strains revealed several genes either induced (green) or repressed (red) during zebrafish infection, in
both avirulent and virulent strains.
The most induced gene during infection encodes a multicopper ferroxidase, which shares high
homology with Fet3 protein sequence from other fungi. This gene, named fet3a, could be involved
in the reductive iron uptake mechanism during infection as a virulence determinant. ... Show more

Bioinformatic analysis revealed the presence of two fet3a homologs, fet3b and fet3c, in M.
circinelloides genome. Northern blot hybridization validated fet3a RNA seq results, and showed an
upregulation of the three fet3 genes triggered by low iron availability (Fig. 3). These results imply
that fet3 genes are functionally redundant, suggesting that fet3b and fet3c are complementing fet3a
deletion during infection on the host Galleria

What Do We Learn About the Treatment of Children in...
What Do We Learn About the Treatment of Children in Dickens Novel? Oliver Twist was
written in 1837, in the wake of the great change in society, brought about by the Industrial
Revolution. Factories were introduced to Britain, which created lots of jobs for many working
class citizens. This in turn created vast overcrowding in many cities and towns; most people
wanted to be closer to their jobs. The huge numbers of people living closely together resulted in
the standards in which people were living in dropping. The little they were paid wasn t enough to
support, in most cases, a family, or to make up for these terrible conditions, and many ended up
faced with living on the streets. The only choice for them was to enter the... Show more content on

The old story ... no wedding ring, Р† see. Ah! Good night! Oliver is a typical example of an
orphan in the 1800 s. He was born into the workhouse, and has never set foot outside it, nor
would he ever have the chance to. This was the same for most children in these times. The
circumstances in which he was born, gives us insight into how society was. Oliver s mother was
unmarried, and although in today С• society we wouldn t bat an eyelid at this, she would have
been shunned by the everyone. We can see evidence that, even though his mother has died, the
ramifications of her actions have led him to be persecuted still by others. Yer know, Work us,
continued Noah, emboldened by Oliver С• silence, and speaking in a jeering tone of affected
pity: of all tones the most annoying: It can t be helped now; and of course yer couldn t help it
then; and Р† m very sorry for it; and Р† m sure we all are, and pity yer very much. But yer must
know, Work us, yer mother was a regular right down bad un. Dickens ensures the reader knows
this story will by no means be happy, and Oliver does not have an easy life ahead of him. The
tone has already been set for the story, and Oliver has only just been born. This is clearly down to
the fact that he has been born in a workhouse, and will be subject to it С• cruel treatment for the
rest of his life. Oliver cried lustily. If he

Blood on the Steppes: Ethnicity, Power, and Conflict
In this article written by Weatherford, the form and use of ethnic identity is the core focus and
further elaborations has been provided on roles of various factors in shaping ethnic identities such
as, religion, economics, politics and so forth. Weatherford has also discussed the various usages that
ethnic identities may have: Men in pursuit of their own vested interests have used ethnic identities
as a means to reach their goals and interests such as wealth, fame and even sexual indulgence. The

Thus, he made himself the Turkmen National Symbol of solidarity and unity.
It s been argued in the article that religion has been most used when people are denied the right to
directly express their own ethnic identity or have to accept an identity other than their own. Militant
Islam has become the dominant form of identification and main route of resistance to central
government authorities. For instance, Uighurs were Buddhists who converted to Islam. Due to the
fact that in the presence of Chinese (Khan) dominations they could not express their ethnic identity,
they chose Islam to symbolize and identify them.
Some chose rather unorthodox methods to express their identity and symbolization as a factor that
would assert their identity was indeed different from the previously discussed cases. For instance,
a group was formed under the name of Reebok Mafia , although they spoke the same language but
they would differ in terms of the place of residence and ethnicity. Thus, they chose to wear clothes
products of the Reebok Company to be identified. In some instances ethnic identity has been used
to pursue sexual gratification. In the case of Kirgizstan, it is legitimate for a man and women to
elope or men kidnap the woman in order to marry them, the specific term coined for this tradition is
Bride Capture. In an interview

Letter To The Colossians
Colossians Introduction: In the passage, The Bible instructs the population that Christ passed
away for the sins of mankind. It provides instruction for all of mankind and allows human beings
to accept their gifts and their faults as well. The reader of the passage is asked to impart these
lessons and apply them into their everyday lives. The letter to the Colossians is intent to both
explain Christ s position in the world and to assert unequivocally that he was indeed the son of
God and was the leader of men and also above all men. Besides being instructive on the
philosophical basis of Christianity, it also serves as a lecture about the dangers of false
prophecy and obedience to people besides the lord God himself. Historical Cultural Background:
Following the death of Jesus Christ there was a desire in his followers to spread his messages
and to build the church which would teach his word to as many as would listen and embrace his
ideas. At this time, there was as yet, no unified instruction about how to teach and spread
Christianity. Consequentially, there were many different variations and interpretations of the
words of Christ being cultivated and taught as the very word of the Lord. This was obviously
before the writing of The Bible as a completed work and so those who wanted to participate in the
Christian religion only had access to the stories and instructions through the oral repetition (Lewis
2010). When information is passed down orally as opposed to the

Towns And Cities During The Middle Ages
Towns and cities were extremely important to the Middle Ages and especially in the way we
perceived this glorious age, giving economic opportunities, better lifestyles, and overall
advancement in society. Through the Middle Ages, growth of these urban centers happened due to
the economic stability of the time. The boom in population and religious lifestyle of the time,
helped set the stage for the economy to really thrive, the best since the classical age. During the
Medieval Age, from the 1100 s to the 1300 s, better technology, and climate allowed an increase in

transportation and technology. Accessibility, most merchants brought large amounts of goods
through ship and boat. This heavily helped trade centers near bodies of water, It was always
much easier to float your stuff down a river than to drag it down a road ( The Rise ). In general,
people always tended to go to places where they could easily meet, economically and socially.
Commercially, groups of towns and cities would come together in similar specializations, and
govern similar trade laws, to remove competition. Towns around the North Sea formed a club
called the Hanseatic league, which encompassed over 70 towns by 1350, all abiding by strict
trade rules(Jeremiah 231). These towns monopolized the North Sea and controlled all trade
routes, through it. Many of these commercial contracts came together taking advantage of
different social and geologic factors, allowing cities and towns to grow and the economy to
prosper. Just due to the location of villages, and land in general would towns and cities pop up,
as the wealthier look for ways to make more money and put their mark on the history of Europe.

American Tea History
While tea dates back almost 5000 years to ancient China, there is a tale that about tea was created.
An Emperor (and herbalist) who was sick, sitting under a tree waiting for his servant to boil water.
As the water boiled leaves from the tree had fallen into it, and the Emperor decided to drink it
anyway.
Out of all the countries to be introduced to tea, the United Kingdom was one of the last nations to
be familiarized to it. By the mid 1600s, Americans were already drinking tea. Tea was being
brought back from the Portuguese who were living in the East as traders and missionaries. But it
was not the Portuguese who were the first to transport; it was actually the Dutch. Which soon had
established teas as its popular drink.
Not too long after, tea soon became a common house hold object in England. From offices to
nurseries, middle class and upper class families alike used tea for At Home events. I was able to

as an external parasite in the GodВґs perfectly created earth. In the first part, Wolters explains that
the original plan of God was to make earth to be very good, but then the original sin corrupted this

Wolters theory applied to The Enduring Chill by Flannery O Connor
AbsuryВґs life is an example of how the fall corrupts life s one and how human s behavior is what
feeds the sin that generates this fall. Asbury has experimented the consequences of sin in his life
through sickness, lack of talent and unhappiness in general.
Given that Absury shares the natural human goal of getting happiness, he tries to feel better
using his owns means. However, he does not achieve it, because he is not aware of the link
between evil and slavery due his pride. His pride made him do not even go to the doctor to save
his own life, because he was convinced that everything that happens to him overcomes doctors
knowledge. Also, he thought that only he could feel better doing something significant before he
died. However, over the time he realized that he was not going to be able to achieve a significant
experience and have the death that he wanted. This story is analogous to human behavior toward
God. Asbury had the opportunity to heal, however he decided not to take it, which caused him a
painful agony. God gives us all the means to be saved, but sometimes our pride makes us not take

Gregory Bateson and his Quest to Unify our Minds
Introduction: Thesis and introduce good old Gregory...1/2 page Gregory Bateson was an
anthropologist, psychoanalyst, and cybernetics who contributed to multiple subfields within
anthropology along with other fields in the social sciences. Bateson never completely settled into
one field, but rather, he synthesized his knowledge to incorporate it into his epistemology and
methodologies. Gregory Bateson s contributions to anthropology range from providing new
methods of ethnography, helping to establish the field of visual anthropology, influencing
ecological, psychological, and linguistics anthropology, to moving cybernetic theory from the
natural sciences to the social sciences.
Background, Education, and Influences: 1 to 2 pages Gregory Bateson was born in
Grantchester, England to an aristocratic family in 1904 (Stagoll 2006). His father, William
Bateson, was a prominent geneticist who founded the Cambridge School of Genetics and coined
the term genetics (Stagoll 2006). William Bateson was a strong advocate of the work of
geneticist Gregor Mendel and named Gregory in his honor (Stagoll 2006). Following in his father

Technology Negative Essay
Defined as the purposeful application of information in the design, production, and utilization of
goods and services, and in the organization of human activities , technology has many applications
in today s world (WebFinance, Inc.). Whether the newest cellular device, video gaming console or
tablet, or even some new vaccine or cure for a disease, technology is meant to make humans lives
easier, faster, less stressful, more enjoyable and ultimately better, and make society a better place.
Technology grows with humans and their needs and wants. When humans needed some sort of way
to protect themselves, gather resources more easily, and farm, humans developed stone tools and
weapons to use. Windmills, steam engines, use of petroleum, and the harnessing of electricity made
life easier, faster and less stressful whether that energy is used for textiles, metallurgy, agriculture, or
transport, the harnessing of wind, steam, petroleum and electricity truly helped society grow and
the individual prosper. Later, militaries had better weapons to fight with and technology to use
(radar, sonar) to use against their opponents, and hospitals had pharmaceuticals, anesthetics,
antiseptics, and better examination techniques (X Rays, radiation therapy, blood transfusions).
While it can be useful, many question the usefulness and application of technology that seemingly
does not help society and the individual and instead are a detriment. After World War II, some
questioned the

Once the source of the cause of the outbreak was determined, the CDC issued a public service announcement stating what had caused the outbreak and where the infected cucumbers originated. Andrew and Williamson Fresh Produce issued a recall and collected the majority of the contaminated cucumbers by September 24th, 2015. This, however, was not the end of the outbreak. • 6. Character Analysis Of Eleanor And Park Eleanor, a character from the book Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell, is a very complicated character. Her seemingly pessimistic and self conscious approach to life can seem strange or even incomprehensible, but when her character development and past experiences are more closely considered, these views are much easier to understand. Her views are affected by three major factors: her family s financial status, her abusive home life, and her endurance of constant bullying. While there are multiple other motivations behind her perceptions, these three factors all help push her to the state of internalizing much of her personal life, keeping it away from individuals she finds herself closest to, including her boyfriend Park. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The second big factor that affects Eleanor s views and perceptions is her abusive home life caused by her stepfather, Richie. Consequently, this leads to her having a constant fearof seemingly small things and an unusually prominent want to keep her home life and her school life separate, therefore causing her to keep many of her struggles to herself. An example of this is found on page 151 in which an excerpt from the book states, Where would she go this time? Back to the Hickman s? Hey, remember the time my mom asked if I could stay with you guys for a few days, and then she didn t come back for a year? This excerpt demonstrates how she has an innate fear of her stepfather and of being kicked out; as a result, she often avoids anything she even thinks might anger Richie. Another example of her fear and isolation from her own home life is a quote from the character Park, her boyfriend, on page 105 which states, She wouldn t talk about her family or her house. She wouldn t talk about anything that happened before she moved to the neighborhood or anything that happened after she got off the bus. Eleanor is very much a character that keeps her personal life close. She bottles up her problems and fears instead of sharing them with other close people, including Park. The last big factor that affects Eleanor s views and perceptions is the fact that she must deal with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Comparing King Henry The V, Romeo And Juliet, And Much Ado... What do the Prodigal Son,The Boy who Cried Wolf and Much Ado about nothing, have in common? The answers is the moral of redemption as the main theme in the story, although it is easy to assume that the Prodigal Son and the Boy who cried wolf seem to be easily understand as common stories of redemption. What does Much ado about nothing share? Much ado is also a story about redemption and forgiveness. It seems very hard to understand that shakespeare wrote about morals and character. Although Shakespeare stories often seem entertaining and enthralling, there appear to be hidden themes in three of his best known stories, King Henry the V, Romeo and Juliet and Much Ado about Nothing! These three stories contain themes that were important and applicable in the 16th century and even today the underlying themes in these stories can apply to our lives. • 9. Thank You Ma Am By Langston Hughes Thank You Ma am is an American short story written by Langston Hughes. The story was published in 1958; however, some people, including me, seem to believe that it was written in the 1930 s due to the racial undertones (www.americanliterature.com 1). Also, Langston wrote many of his short stories in the 1930 s. In the story, a boy named Roger tries to steal a purse from what seems to be a large, African American, elderly lady named Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones. When Roger reaches out and snatches the purse, he loses his balance and falls flat on his back. Mrs. Jones simply gives him a swift kick in the rear and tells him to get up. Then, instead of continuing to beat him, she sees his dirty face, and her motherly instincts resurface. She carries the boy home, makes him wash his face, cooks him a hot meal, and then gives him the money that he was trying to steal. Why she does this, I do not quite understand, but the traits such as her size, strength, name, and motherly instincts may provide the reader with a clear explanation of the woman Langston Hugheswas portraying throughout this story as well as provide insight as to why others have seen the character as a symbolic feature of slavery. The story repetitively states that Mrs. Jones is a large woman which is very significant to the story. For instance, one quote says, She was a large woman with a large purse that had everything in it but hammer and nails (Hughes 1). I imagine her to be a big woman with long, ... Social Themes In Cry, The Beloved Country By Alan Paton Cry, the Beloved Country by Alan Paton In the novel, Cry, the Beloved Country by Alan Paton, it follows the narratives of Stephen Kumalo and James Jarvis as they struggle to keep their families together and deal with the loss of their sons. During the story, Stephen Kumalo shows the readers his country through his eyes as he travels to Johannesburgto save his sister, Gertrude. As he finds Gertrude, he comes to know that his son, Absalom, has been caught up in criminal activities during his tenure in Johannesburg. So, Kumalo tracks down his son to find out that he killed James Jarvis s son, Arthur Jarvis. This shows the change that moving to an urbanized area can make on a person. A man that was once kind, humble, and living on the farm with his familyturned into an anxious and scared man in a big city. In the novel, Cry, the Beloved Country by Alan Paton, the motif of contrasting images found in the rural versus the urban landscape is depicted through the difference in social class, lack of care for the human life, and the destruction of families. • 14. The World And A Grand Symbol Of Papal Authority Essay During the Late Renaissance period, the largest church in the world and a grand symbol of papal authority was built within the territory of the Vatican City. Principally designed by famous architects, such as Michelangelo, Donato Bramante, Carlo Maderno and Gian Bernini Lorenzo, St Peter s Basilica built between 1506 to 1626 is one of the greatest Renaissance architectures and is regarded as the greatest of all churches of Christendom . Believed to be the site of Saint Peter s tomb, one of the twelve apostles of Jesus and considered to be the first pope, the ground in which the basilica stands is one of the holiest places in the world. Evidence state that the tomb of Saint Peter is located directly beneath the altar of the Basilica. Due to being such a holy place, the Basilica contains many tombs of popes and famous religious sculptures, such as the Pieta of Michelangelo. Admired for its Renaissance architecture, with a fusion with Baroque architecture in the later years of building, the Basilica of St. Peter also holds great meaning; thus in order to emphasize its importance, it took several years to design and completely build the dome (and the Basilica itself). • 19. The Long Road For Women s Suffrage Analysis The Victorian era was a time of tremendous advancement in almost every aspect of society. These Changes affected the British society, economy and social standards. Although it may have been considered as a period of development, it was likewise a time of inconvenience and anxiety because of the Industrial Revolution in which England turns into the first modern country. Thus, the Industrial Revolution brought benefits as well as wretchedness to the British people, specifically to women. British women in the nineteenth century lived in an age characterized by genderinequality. At the beginning of the century, women relished few of the legal, social, or political rights, as they could not vote, or had control over their personal property... It provides a description of the kind of education that the Victorian girls have received. Moreover, it gives a vision of married women and their rights, and the issues of sex, divorce, and spinsters as well. The second chapter entitled: The Long Road for Women s Suffrage, begins with the feminist s arguments about women which warmed the demand for the women s suffrage in the late 19th century and early twentieth century. It analyses in detail the propaganda material used by the suffrage movement and examines the interaction between the way the suffrage organisations viewed and related to the political system, and the way political leaders and parties viewed and acted in response to suffrage activities. Egalitarianism In Harrison Bergeron In modern society, discrimination occurs on a daily basis and these social injustices allude to egalitarianism, the notion of equality among citizens in every manner, as the ideal solution. However, would total equality actually better society or rather, trammel citizens? Kurt Vonnegut s Harrison Bergeron succeeds in addressing this question and exposes the consequences of complete equality. His short story is set in an egalitarian society where the government handicaps individuals who are naturally above average to achieve total equality. The text follows a man named George Bergeron who has an intellectual handicap due to his high IQ and his average wife, Hazel. The two have a son named Harrison who is naturally superior to all as he is gifted... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A prominent symbol within the text is the handicap which represents the government s control over the population. In the beginning of the story, George is introduced as a man with above average intelligence so, he is required by law to wear [his handicap ear radio] at all times (Vonnegut 33). George is unable to have stimulating ideas due to his impediment because it plays loud noises to interrupt his train of thought. The handicaps are a mechanism for the government to subdue those who appear to be a threat and censor citizens thoughts. Hence, these impediments are a symbol of governmental control over the people as an attempt to achieve total equality. Consequently, the egalitarian based government heavily regulates society through handicap restrictions on individuals to erase the attributes that makes them unique. Moreover, Harrison Bergeron himself is a symbol of the rebellion against the government and the repercussions of implementing total equality. While on live television, Harrison breaks free from his impediments and begins to dance gracefully with a ballerina in which [n]ot only are the laws of the land abandoned, but the law of gravity and the laws of motion as well (Vonnegut 36). • 26. Summary Of The Rime Of The Ancyent Marinere In the poem The Rime of the Ancyent Marinere by Samuel Coleridge, the Marinere attains a change of mindset about the sea snakes he encounters on his journey. This moment in the poem is more than a simple shift from the disliking to affinity for an animal; the moment shows a larger change within the Marinere himself. When one views this in conjunction with the concept of seeing in Carlos Castanedas novel A Separate Reality, one can discover that the Marinere completes the act of seeing. In realizing this feat of the Marinere, it portrays him as a sentimental character than may one first assume. By being able to see, the Marinere creates the shift in perspective regarding the sea snakes and gains respect for all beings by the end of the work. The Marinere s initial view of the sea snakes is an extension of his perception regarding his unfavorable situation. The Mariner s first view of the sea snakes is one filled with contempt, which is caused by his overall feelings of despair and loneliness he feels for being the sole survivor on the ship. At this point, the Mariner relates that he is alone and his soul is in agony (IV, 224 227). He further describes his separation from the other beings present observing his fellow crewmen now the dead men that lay on the deck as beautiful (IV, 228 229), the living sea snakes as a million million slimy things, and then describes himself as simply liv[ing] without any further adjective this associates him more closely with what he ... As serotonin functions to maintain mood balance, deficits in the functionality of serotonin have the potential to be hugely detrimental. A study published in Motivation and Emotion analyzed the role of serotonin in high levels of aggression, a key component of the expression of psychopathy. Though in the past, we have learned that the Quran is the holy text of Islam, making stark comparisons to the holy texts of other Monotheistic religions such as the Bible for the Christians and the Torah for the Jews, but in retrospect, the Quran delves into other matters beyond just religion. Dr. Salem Abdel Galil, Deputy Minister of Egypt s Ministry of Religious Affairs, says that the Koran for Muslims is not just a book of worship, but it serves as a guide for life. In other words, the Quran is not just a compilation of religious accounts; rather it holds information to further develop a follower s interpersonal and communicative skills along with guidance on how to live a tolerant and peaceful life with others. Another takeaway from this film, and what I believe to be one of the central messages that director Greg Barker is trying to convey, is that the Quran is the ultimate source of unification for Muslims. This is apparent throughout the documentary, which initially starts with the description of the annual Quran reciting competition held in Cairo, Egypt. This competition brings together approximately 110 reciters, of all ages and both genders, from a total of 70 different countries. The majority of the participants are not native Arabic speakers, the language of the Quran, but yet they have all memorized the Quran in Arabic. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. Peter Singer on Equality In recent years a lot of suppressed groups have worked in an organized and active way towards one particular goal: equality. The typical example is the Black Liberation movement, which insisted on putting an end to the prejudice and discrimination that has made them inferior to other people. The instant call of the black liberation movement and its success became an ideal for other oppressed groups to go after. During the time other movements started to develop, putting the focus on such issues as gay, women s and African American rights. Peter Singer gave a start to animal rightsmovement, paying particular attention to how in former time permissible types of discrimination and prejudice came to be seen as unjustly and dishonestly bias towards specific set of people and that the hour has come for a much the same dedication to the moral and legal entitlement of species that walk on four legs instead of two. Singer starts his argument by supposing that the principle of equality or principle of equal consideration of interests is a basic moral principle, which implies treating the interests of all people as equally significant in spite of gender, color, or sexual orientation. Then he puts forward the idea that we should reinterpret the theory of equality so that it relate not only just to all human being but also to all sentient beings, by which he refers to all beings that have the ability to suffer or enjoy happiness. • 35. Memory and Fortune in the Odyssey When scholars analyze themes of meaning in the Homeric epic The Odyssey, a common area of focus is the significance of memory and forgetting to the story. One interpretation of the text poses that characters being able to remember Odysseus brings about fortunate consequences for the protagonist, while forgetting about him or his deeds leads to negative ones. However, the forgetting of Odysseuss transgressions by the suitor s fathers at the end of the epic contradicts this as Odysseus is spared through it. It is through the juxtaposition of Athena s requests for memory and forgetting, respectively, at the beginning and conclusion of the epic that show the retention of the memory of Odysseus by others is not inherently beneficial nor detrimental to him. Rather, memory is a tool: a double edged sword that can either improve or worsen his condition based on circumstance. What is inherent, however, is the tendency of events to progress, albeit slowly and circuitously, towards the inevitable homecoming of Odysseus, his retaking of the seat of power, and the return to normalcy on Icatha. Memory and forgetting merely serve as a means to achieve that fated end, rather than being objects of meaning themselves. That the remembrance of Odysseus by other characters helps him out later on in the epic is certainly supported by events that transpire in the first half of the story. The only real experience I had with classical musicwas during Music class at school and the one teacher who played records in her room during quiet times. But this day was something special. My sister and I were asked to join a small group of teens to attend a concert of the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra . The cousin of an attendee would play in the orchestra that year and I was thrilled to be attending. We got to our seats early so we could be sure we were in a good location. The instrumentalists warming up with different sounds and scales all playing at the same time was like listening to the sounds of nature. Everyone had their own different sound. Everyone was playing something different. While I was amazed at what I heard, it wasn t until the conductor raised his baton and the first sounds from a well practiced group took my breath away. Cost and leadership Cost and price leadership was developed by Michael porter and it was to help companies make use of a strategy which would put them on top of their competitors known as a competitive advantage. The cost and price leadership aim at increasing the profits and market share of Tesco s through charging their customers lower prices, while still being able to make a profit on every sale they make. This is beneficial to Tesco s as it will attract customers to their store rather than them going to a store such as Morrisons to purchase products. An example of Cost and price leadership was when Tesco began competing against Asdas, Tesco s decided to lower the cost of their prices which they cut 25% of the price on over 380 items. (Bridge) In James Hurst s story, The Scarlet Ibis, Brother pushes Doodle to the limit teaching Doodle activities that he would have never had the opportunity to do without the motivationand determination to reach greatness. (FS1) Throughout the journey of learning to walk, swim, and run, Brother motivates Doodle to keep pushing so that he could be like the other kids before he started school. (FS2) Doodle, born physically impaired, tries his best to follow his brother s orders and make him happy, but this leads him to his death. In the United States, the government and specific interest groups create public policies to solve internal problems and protect their citizens. Public policies can include any action, plan, or rule, which relates to issues of domestic national importance. Once a certain issue becomes a concern for a significant amount of people, it becomes a component of the national agenda, which is what the public wants the government to acknowledge. Many of these problems are addressed because they negatively affect a significant amount of people (Sparknotes: How Policy Gets Made). For the past few years, one of the major issues in the United States is illegal immigration. Unlike today, a person immigrating illegally was not a major issue years ago. Using Mucor circinelloides as a model of mucormycosis to identify new genetic determinants of virulence is the aim of this work. First strategy parts from identification of genes differentially expressed during pathogenesis, choosing zebra fish as an infection model (Fig. 1). Figure 1. Transcriptomic analysis during infection with M. circinelloides virulent and avirulent strains revealed several genes either induced (green) or repressed (red) during zebrafish infection, in both avirulent and virulent strains. The most induced gene during infection encodes a multicopper ferroxidase, which shares high homology with Fet3 protein sequence from other fungi.
