Sociology Of Sociology Essay
Bowles and Gintis( 1976) stated schools are agents for socialistation but only because it helps
produce the right kind of workers for a capitalist business(p.147).
This would appear to suggest that according to both social theorists there is a connection
between education and social inequilty. The educational system helps ypung people to prepare
for the ecomnice system. The structure of the education system helps them with displaine and
to prepare them to enter the workforce. As regards to my CA brief I will be discussing what
sociologh is. Before I will addressing my main topic which is ,I have been asked to look at the early
years sector from a socioligal prepesctive and give the view of 3 leading sociological thinkers and
to conclude my essay I will discuss brieftly my personal prepective from carring out my research
for this topic.
The department of Sociology Unc (2016) indicates sociology is the study of human social
relationships and organisations. Sociology can range from crime to religion it is a very diverse
subject. It refers to the family to the state, diversity of race and social class to the beliefs in
common cultures. The study of sociology is to understand how human action and consciousness
both shape and are shaped by surrounding cultural and social structures. Sociology you do not
realise how much the subject covers and it explains important matters in our own personal lives,
our communities and the world. At personal level, sociology looks at the social

Ballet Shot Analysis
Following this long shot we are shown a close up shot of Nina s foot, during this shot Nina is
practicing a fouettГ©. The purpose of this shot is to convey to the viewer how much pressure
Nina is placing on her body, in particular, her feet. A lot of ballet in danced en pointe (on the tip
of a person s toes), this sort of pressure can be detrimental to one s physical well being. A lot of
members in the audience will have prior knowledge of how painful and strenuous it can be to
place all of your body weight on just your toes, thus reinforcing to the audience the large amount of
pressure Nina is forcing upon herself.
The audience can also see the scuff marks on the floor, this effectively demonstrates just how
much time Nina dedicates to practicing at home. As an audience, we generally know from
personal experience and exposure that this is what wood looks like after it has been scratched
and used excessively. From this the audience is able to interpret the extent to which this area has
been used. Nina s extensive and obsessive practice schedule has placed so much pressure and
friction on the wood that her petite body was successful in wearing away the surface of the wood. ...

This shows the audience just how frequently Nina practices. Either these are new ballet shoes,
meaning she is already prepared for hers to give in, having brand new shoes at the ready means
she doesn t need to disturb her practice. Or on the other hand, they may be shoes she has already
used and destroyed due to her excessive rehearsal schedule, showing just how much she practices
and how intense and prolonged these practices really are. This reaffirms the idea of obsession to the
audience, confirming to them that the purposeful addition of the ballet shoes in the background of
this shot effectively demonstrate how Nina s obsession is increasing, and how this leads to her
inevitable self destruction later on in the

The Women Of The Care Act Of 2010
If You Offer It, They Might Come Back: Eliminating Barriers to Accessing Contraception
Executive Summary/Abstract
More than half of all women of reproductive age in the United States use some form of
contraceptive (Daniels, Daugherty, and Jones, 2014). Of those, most are on the oral contraceptive
pill. Even with new regulations in place to supposedly increase access to preventive services,
there is still an issue of women who are sexually active, do not wish to become pregnant within the
next year, and who are not using a form of contraception. Clinician and facility based barriers are
the largest deterrent for these women. By removing the barriers to contraceptive counseling and
services, women will have greater access to their health.
Where Are the Barriers?
One of the highlighted provisions within the Affordable Care Act of 2010 was the coverage for all
FDA approved forms of contraception without a co pay. For many patients, this was able to
eliminate a financial barrier. However, the largest barriers remain with the clinicians who provide
contraception to patients. In a 2014 report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,
unnecessary medical procedures were cited as barriers to accessing contraception. Among these
were pelvic examinations, routine pregnancy testing, HIV screening, and cervical cytology exams.
Notably, there are some instances, as listed out in the United States Medical Eligibility Criteria for
Contraceptive Use (USMEC), which would require

Individualistic Qualities Of Characters In Joseph Heller s...
The characters of Catch 22 each had individualistic qualities that gave more meaning to the
novel. They added to the central message of the novel which focuses on the shortcomings of
human nature with Joseph Heller s clever use of intricate, supporting characters. Many
characters reminded me of songs, particularly Hungry Joe, Major Major Major Major, and
Colonel Cathcart. Hungry Joe is a bomber of the 256th bombing squadron. He has completed the
number of missions several times and is shell shocked, similar to ptsd, from knowing he can t go
home. He is always trying to photograph nude women claiming that before the war, he was a
photographer for Life Magazine reacting to them as sexual beings was one of frenzied worship and
idolatry (6.8).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He has raised the number of missions needed to go home from 45 to 80. If a soldier does reach
the goal, Colonel Cathcart simply commands them to stay since all soldiers must listen to their
commanding officer. As the reader continues, it becomes clear that his desperation to be
protomed to a general is the cause for his many irrational judgments. This includes ruining Major
Major s life by promoting him in front of his friends and dismissing the chaplain s pleas to fix
issues within the soldiers. When faced with any setbacks such as McWatt s suicide, Doc
Daneeka s apparent death, and Milo s disloyalty, raising the number of required mission is his
method of relieving the issue. In short, he does not care that his actions endanger his mens lives
and he does not honor the bond between soldiers and their officers. Every action is designed to
please and impress his superiors as well as the public. In chapter 19, Colonel Cathcart and the
chaplain discuss group prayers before each mission. The colonel s motive is to get his name in
the Saturday Evening Post, desiring fame and recognition. He also wanted to exclude any mention
religion: Haven t you got anything humorous that stays away from waters and valleys and God? I
d like to keep away from the subject of religion altogether if we can (ch19). This shows that
Colonel Cathcart is only using in religion as a tool for his own advancement. Actual faith has

Single Mom
The Sum Up: It Ain t Easy Being A Single Mom
Apparently, among the myopic ultra conservative pundits of conventional wisdom, there is more
than enough of the blaming, shaming and lumping of single mothers into to one maternal heap of
failure. But that is blatantly unfair. It is undeniable that many women who find themselves
single mothers living in a tough economic situation made poor choices about planning for
motherhood. However, given that single mothers from a diversity of backgrounds are much
more likely to be living with economic insecurity than single fathers, it can t all be due to low
income women s lousy decision making or a lack of financial self restraint or a weak motivation
to get a good education and job. Because if you take in the bigger picture, you will find that a
majority of low income mothers, who are a family s lone breadwinner, are carrying the extra
weight of low paying jobs and the high cost of childcare, and ... Show more content on

Kristi Williams, an associate professor of sociology at Ohio State University, published a study in
the American Sociological Review, which showed that the negative health consequences for
single moms can be long lasting, and they are unlikely to go away even if those women fare
financially better later in life. Research has clearly shown the toll that long term stress takes on
health and we know that single mothers have a great deal of stress in their lives, Williams said.
Adding to that information, Caryn Rabin, writing in The New York Times about single mothers
health risks, explains, Middle aged women who were single when they had their first child are in
worse health than similar women who were married when first giving birth. Clearly, the studies
make an important point: the cumulative stress women experience as a single mother has long term

INTRODUCTION
Christ is the central person in Christian discipleship. Without Christ, Christianity would not exist
and there would be no followers of Christ. To be true followers of Christ, believers must be
willing to learn of the ways and teachings of Christ. Christ is central to Christian discipleship
because He is the teacher of His disciples. Through the Holy Spirit and Word of God, Jesus Christ

God disciplines those whom He loves and uses those whom follow His commandments. Jesus
was hanged on a cross and crucified so that we would have the opportunity to be saved. He
suffered for us, so we should take up our cross on a daily basis and follow Him. Christians must
submit to Christ in order to be used by Christ. When a person submits to Christ, the Holy Spirit
will empower him to be used of God. If a person does not submit to Christ, then the Holy Spirit
will be quenched and the Christian will be disciplined by God. Disciples of Christ do not receive
salvation because they obey God, but they obey God and submit to Christ because they have
salvation (Rogers, Adrian, 2005). Jesus told the disciples that if they call him Lord they must
do what he commands (Matthew 7:22). To be a disciple of Christ, we must submit to Jesus and
trust that He is our Lord and Savior. We must have faith in Him and look to Him as our guide.
Disciples of Christ should obey Jesus because God is not a man, but a sovereign God who has
every right to command His disciples. Christ is not just a sovereign God, but also a saving God
who suffered on a cross so that humans could receive salvation. Disciples of Christ who are
saved by grace are not their own, but bought with a price that Jesus paid on the cross. Dietrich
Bonhoeffer: The disciples are called blessed because they have obeyed the call of Jesus.2 To be a
disciple of Christ, we must

Animals Should Not Be Zoos
Imagine being a zoo animal. Wouldn t the animal want to be free, and not in captivity? There
should not be zoos. From outside of a cage it is barely noticeable, but what is happening to the
zoo animals is not right. There should not be zoos because animals cannot exercise which leads
to health issues, they have little to no space which causes depression, and there are other places
that help animals in a safer and more productive way. The history of zoos is that animals would
be in tin cages, now, they live in fake terrain, so none of these habitats are appropriate for
animals. Zoos say that they are helping endangered animals, but really they are killing them.
Most animals in zoos do not get enough exercise as part of their daily schedule, and when
animals exercise is lacking, health issues are occurring more frequently. For instance, stressed
animals signal depression or psychoses. When elephants at zoos sway from side to side, the
people outside of the cage believe it is a normal motion for the animal, but it is actually a signal
of stress. Behaviors like these are mainly caused by a lack of privacy, mental stimulation and
physical exercise. To help the animals, some zoos give tranquilizers or antidepressants to
control these kinds of behaviors in animals. Animals do not deserve this, but still lack exercise.
For example, cheetahs in the wild pace 0% to 5% of their day, but at the Milwaukee County
Zoo, 64% of their day is spent doing this. Cheetahs are one of the most endangered animals at the
zoo because at zoos they only live to age 16 or 17, while in the wild they live to be 30 or older.
As a result of this lack of exercise provided by zoos, zoos are not matching the animals natural
exercise behaviors, so the animals become unhealthy. Most animals stuck in zoos live by
themselves even if they are meant to live in herds. While in the wild, playful african elephants
live peacefully and splash each other with their trunks. In zoos with cages there is not enough
space to play and enjoy themselves. The average size of elephants is 7 feet, and they live in 12
foot enclosed cages, so that leaves them with only 5 feet to move around. Elephants can not move,
nor use their trunks and this causes them to die

Music Is An Essential Part Of Our Social Environment
SOUNDS
The beauty of music regardless of genre and form is truly amazing. It allows us to express joy,
anger, sadness, love, pain, and bittersweet moments that we experience in our lifetime. Creating
music can be simple or complicated, and it all depends on how we create it. We can create music
easily with our bodies by tapping our shoes and snapping our fingers, or we can make it a more
complex task by using our voice and musical instruments. Music is definitely an essential part of
our social environment because it makes our lives more lively, interesting, and passionate.
Moreover, music inspires not only musicians, singers, or compositors, but it also inspires dancers.
Dancers that glide their feet, turn around, and jump at the rhythmic sounds while moving along
with the music is what I find most captivating. I think that music transcends time because people of
all ages can find a way to enjoy and express themselves through music. At last, I attended a ballet
show at the Dance Theatre of Dalton, and enjoyed the dance as much I enjoyed the music. My
favorite pieces of the night were the following: Touch The Sky,
A group of twelve girls were standing proud and ready at the stage. All wearing beautiful dresses
and a pair of glittery green wings. Their hair was fixed in a hair bun at the top of their heads, and
also wore a bit of makeup that illuminated their smiling faces. The music started, and it was a
familiar song Touch The Sky , by Julie Fowlis. This song is very

Causes Of Imperialism In The 19th Century
Imperialism There is an impressive change by the 19th century by the domination of one country
over another group of people, Imperialism.
Imperialism is most of the times also refers as Colonialism, however it have different meanings,
first, Imperialism is the control of the political and economic, formally or informally and
Colonialism its means the control of one nation over another one. Moreover, on one hand,
Colonialism its the conquer of a country and the exploration of resources of its country, and on the
other hand Imperialism is the creation of one empire and the expansion. While Colonialism means
to describe the settlement of places such as India, Australia, Algeria, Brazil... controlled by the
Europeans, Imperialism means when a foreign government governs a territory with no settlement,
for example, in the dominations of the 19th century. The Age of New Imperialism started in the
1870 s to 1914, however before this there was a called Old Imperialism, from the sixteenth to the
nineteenth century, by this years European countries were trying to explore the New World. They

Essay on How Asian Americans are Portrayed in Hollywood...
Asian American actors and actresses are portrayed in Hollywood movies as always being the silent
and yielding foreign victims to social injustice and prejudice. Whether or not these depictions are
true, they are nonetheless stereotypes that Hollywood producers have come up with. According to
the US Census in the year 2000, Asian Americans make up 4.2% of the entire American population,
and knowing that most Asian Americans live on the west and east coast of the United States, many
Americans living in central parts of this country have not really been exposed to any Asian
Americans. Because of this fact, it is highly probable that most Americans get their exposure to the
Asian Americanlifestyle only through television and movies. Even if... Show more content on

His men get defeated by other white gangs which clearly shows that Hollywood wants you to think
that Asians are inferior to white people. In Richard Fung s analysis on Sally s Beauty Spot, The
fact that Sally never kisses an Asian unfortunately reflects the absence of Asian men from
Western sexual representation (Fung 169). Asian actors rarely get to be involved in on screen
romantic relationships with their co star Asian actresses because Hollywood does not believe
Asian men are capable of being sexual. They would rather have them doing fighting scenes or
even playing nerdy roles than to allow them to do romantic scenes. Similarly, in the James Bond
film Tomorrow Never Dies, only Bond is involved in a relationship with the Asian female
character played by Michelle Yeoh. And majority of the time in most films, Asian actors and
actresses are instructed to speak with an Asian accident and in broken English. Likewise for
Asian actresses, they have been pictured as exotic, highly sexual, overly feminine, and eager to
please women capable of easily falling in love with white men. But what Hollywood really fails to
portray about Asian women in Asia is that they are prostitutes trying to make a living to put food
on the table for their families. People do not realize that these Asian women come from poverty and
did not receive the same education as American women. These Asian women are not choosing to
have sex with white males, but because their clients have

The enduring nature and extensive range of the debate about dividend policy has spawned a
vast amount of literature that grows by the day. For this reason, a full review of all debates is not
feasible1. However, this paper endeavours to give justice to the importance of both the topic of
dividend policy as an area of financial economic research, and also to the literature that has been
produced addressing that topic, by reviewing the most important and influential studies in this area.
It attempts to outline the main theories and explanations of dividend policies and to review the
main empirical studies on corporate dividend policy. The remaining of this paper is organized as
follows. Section 2 gives a short background of corporate dividend policy. Section 3 analyses the
theories of dividend policy starting with the dividend irrelevance hypothesis of Miller and
Modigliani, and then the alternative hypotheses including bird inthe hand, tax preference, clientele
effects, signalling, and agency costs hypotheses. Section 4 summarises the paper.
2. Background of Corporate Dividend Policy2
The issue of corporate dividends has a long history and, as Frankfurter and Wood (1997) observed,
is bound up with the development of the corporate form itself. Corporate dividends date back at
least to the early sixteenth century in Holland and Great Britain when the captains of sixteenth
century sailing ships started selling financial claims to investors, which

Hitler s Propaganda For The Nazi Regime
How significant was propaganda for the Nazi regime in 1933 1945?
The definition of propaganda is information, especially of a biased or misleading nature, used to
promote or publicize a particular political cause or point of view . The Nazis used propaganda as
a method to spread their views and to encourage the Germans to support Hitler. Some of the main
themes of propaganda was to demonise groups of people (races, religions e.c.t); to portray Hitler as
a strong and powerful leader; to emphasise the values of Nazi Germany and to promote the idea of
an Aryan Germany having superiority above all other countries. The person in charge of
propaganda was Josef Goebbels, who Hitler placed in charge of the Ministry of Public
Enlightenment and Propaganda. This department used many methods to enlighten the public for
example different art forms including music and cinema, radio, the press, literature, rallies, posters
and sports.
The Nazis used various different forms of art to subtly put across their messages to the people
and Germany. For example film and theatre which Goebbels thought was essential for influencing
the mass . To do this he made film much more accessible for people so that more people could be
influenced. They did this because they saw the growing interest in film industry, with films
growing in both production and audience. As well as this movies were all regulated by Goebbels
which meant that several foreign films were banned from being watched in Germany.

Organization is key for my classroom. All table top toys are stored near tables, pillows and
stuffed animals are kept in the library area to encourage quiet time. I make sure we have plenty of
available wall space to hang up art projects, all art, posters, pictures, eat are kept at the children eye

Modern Accounting Systems in Modern Organizations

Knowing exactly which accounts are being debited and which accounts are being credited is
essential to maintaining financial records and keeping the organization on the right track for
success. Modern accounting uses debits and credits through the accounting equation which is used
to determine what accounts are debited and what accounts are credited to keep a harmonious
balance between the debits and credits. The accounting equation is like the groundwork for the
debits and credits and that is why modern accounting systems utilizes the accounting equation no
matter what the account may be because the assets must always equal the liabilities, owners equity.
In the modern accounting systems each debit must have a credit to keep the balance in the
accounting equation.
[At] the heart of modern financial accounting is the double entry book keeping system. This
system involves making at least two entries for every transaction: a debit in one account, and a
corresponding credit in another account. The sum of all debits should always equal the sum of all
credits, providing a simple way to check for [errors] (Sharda Gangwar, 2009).
The third way in which modern accounting systems have made a difference in modern
organizations would be with the adjusting process of accounting to maintain records that are up to
date and includes all transactions. If every transaction is completely accounted for in the financial
records then the company will not be in violation of

Amish Cultural Beliefs
Amish Cultural and Religious Beliefs Impacting Health Care Trends
Walking into an Amish community is like taking a trip through time. They are a religious group
that has upheld the standards of a life far removed from the modern world. The Amish come from
descendants from German speaking nations in and around Europe (Henderson, 2010). As such,
church hymns and other important documents are written in a type of Germanic language, known
sometimes as Pennsylvania Dutch. German and Pennsylvania Dutch are still common methods for
formal communication within the Amish community, although most of its members speak English
in informal situations. The community also upholds social roles that many would find outdated.
Women are restricted to the household, and thus their roles are severely limited compared to
women in modern communities. It is the men that have more freedom within the community. Also,
many within the Amish community tend to take the view point that everything happens for a
reason. This then impacts their overall view of individual health and tragedies. When an individual
gets sick or dies, many within the community believe it was God s will, and so often not much is
done to prevent God s will from manifesting (Henderson, 2010). Thus, it is clear that their cultural
and religious beliefs impact their overall health.
The Amish extreme views and beliefs often keep them separate from the rest of society, which can
have an impact on their overall health and how they

Pat Tillman Characteristics
Loyalty, determination, and selflessness are all characteristics of Pat Tillman. In the next few
minutes you will learn about Pat Tillman and how he lived his life being loyal determined and
selfless. For example he never gave up when he was drafted in the 7th round everyone expected
him to maybe be a special teams player but he started the first game. That s just one of many great
things about Pat Tillman.
Pat Tillman showed loyalty. A few ways he showed loyalty is after his last high school game he
was asked by a reporter about how well he played Tillman said I didn t play particularly well. The
team played great. I think he is loyal because lots of players would have taken the spotlight and he
choose to say that i m not the only guy on the field my team won the game. When he went to the

INTRODUCTION Stretch marks don t only happen during pregnancy. You can also get them in
puberty or by gaining weight quickly. A large majority of pregnant women will get stretch marks
around their stomach, breasts, hips and thighs, and they appear to be genetic1. If your female
relatives had stretch marks, then you likely will as well. There is good news though. Today

appearance of old ones. Keep on reading to find out PROVEN ways for dealing with stretch
marks! There are some simple tips for using everyday items you can find in your kitchen
cupboard as well as information about some of the more invasive procedures. Stretch Marks
Defined Stretch marks occur when your body grows (weight gain for example) faster than your
skin which causes breakage of the fibers under the skins surface. They don t only appear on the
stomach either. You can get stretch marks on your belly, breasts, thighs, butt and upper arms.
Those marks will generally start out a dark reddish or purple color but usually fade over time. It
is not so much a matter of how much weight you have gained as it is how fast the weight was
gained. But if you have them, you are definitely not alone, 90% of pregnant women get them to
some degree. There is no way to completely remove them without surgery but there are many ways
you can lessen the appearance so they are not as noticeable. PREVENTION GELATIN (*vegetarian

Philosophies Of Sister Carrie By Theodore Dreiser

American Realism
11/20/16 Philosophies of Sister
Carrie

There are few writers that could create a body of work that encompasses as many concepts as
Theodore Dreiser s Sister Carrie. His novel follows the life and times of Carrie, a country bell of
sorts who abandons her way of life in favor of a city lifestyle. Through through Carries progress,
Dreiser embodies many philosophies of intelligence, experience, and personal growth. Many great
philosophers have touched subjects that are apparent in Dreiser s work. Sister Carrie epitomizes
many ideas defined by great thinkers such as Eleanor Roosevelt, Lev S. Vygotsky, and Aristotle.
Eleanor Roosevelt once said that Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small
minds discuss people. Dreiser clearly hoped to convey a similar message in this novel. At the
beginning of Carrie s journey she converses with a man named Chas. H. Drouet And so this is
your first visit to Chicago, he observed.
All the time she was conscious of certain features out of the side of her eye. Flush, colorful cheeks,
a light mustache, a gray fedora hat. She now turned and looked upon him in full, the instincts of self
protection and coquetry mingling confusedly in her brain.
I didn t say that, she said.
Oh, he answered in a very pleasing way and with an assumed air of mistake. I thought you did.
It becomes very apparent that Carrie involves herself in people; however we get a sense of her

Ignorance Exposed In Prelude To War
Throughout time individuals have had a tendency to be ignorant and insensible of the world around
them. Whether they fail to notice a peers new haircut or that they are going to be alternating
schools people may not realize occurrences that are taking place, some to the degree of
misperception, hardship or tragedy. These conditions have taken place all throughout history, for
instance the Holocaust. During this horrific period in time, the citizens of Germany were blinded to
what truly was happening. Not only did this lead misunderstanding the conditions at hand, this led
to millions of separations, fatalities, and devastations. It is confirmed in the articles Prelude to War

As indicated previously, one way the citizen s ignorance was formed through propaganda. In
section Lowered Educational Standards of Prelude to War it states During this time, Hitler and his
fellow Nazi educators discouraged and prohibited children to think independently. This embodies
how the youth was taught propaganda as a fact with no room for discrimination or opinion. This
leads to their ignorance because they only understood the Nazi s perception of things causing
them to believe and value their way of thinking. Also, from countless lectures for students are lead
to think the educators word as fact and other ideas as propaganda when in reality they have been
molded to think this way. In the same way, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas expresses a theme of
ignorance through two characters who both come from different backgrounds but still convey the
same naГЇve and oblivious ways. One character a nine year old boy named Bruno has recently
moved from his home in Berlin, Germany to Auschwitz, Poland due to his father s new position in
the Nazi party as a commandment. He soon later encounters the second character Shmuel who is a

Pakistan And The Climate Of Pakistan
Pakistan is located in the temperate area on the planet. The climate of Pakistan is generally divided
by two main seasons of cold winter and hot summer. Pakistan has a huge variation among extremes
of the temperature. A little rainfall also takes place in Pakistan s different parts of the country.
Pakistan has four seasons; winter, summer, spring and autumn. The winter seasonor cool winter
starts from December and ends in February, the dry spring starts from march through may, the
summer or rainy season starts from June till the end of September. Pakistanalso faces the monsoon
period in the month of October and November. The duration of above mentioned seasons depends
on the locations of regions. Pakistan has many regions, where snow can be seen in the months of
December and January. North of the Azad Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, Northern Punjab, Northern
half of Khyber pakhtoon Khwa and some regions of Baluchistan are usually covered with snow in
the winter season. Pakistan is always hotter in the months of June and July. The weather of
Pakistan is getting hotter as compared to old days. In Wikipedia I studied an article that says:

Angle Analysis Lab Report
The table shows me that Image E gives a very accurate value, correct to the nearest thirty seconds
and meaning my precision in calculating angles has achieved an average (mean) between 0.1 and
0.2 degrees from the true value. The range (difference between small and largest values) is also
less that 5% of the average result, suggesting that my anglecalculations with different star trails
produced repeatable results.
However, Image D is at the complete opposite end of the spectrum, giving a value wildly out by
over 14 hours when minute precision is required. This margin of difference is so large that it
cannot possibly be caused by measurement errors of the angles, as using the known value for the
sidereal day, if the angle were 9.8 degrees ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

based on three images, a small sample size and an unfortunately anecdotal suggestion. However, it
would be an extension to see if a repeat of the observation produced the greatest accuracy with

Police Accountability vs. Police Independence Essay
Introduction
The debate regarding police independence versus police accountability has been hotly contested
since at least the 1960s.1 At the heart of the debate are questions relating to the degree and manner
of oversight to which police forces should be subjected, while maintaining the independence of
those polices forces to carry out their duties free from undue political (or other) interferences. This
essay examines the principles underlying the independence of the office of constable , the notion of
responsible government, and how the interaction between these two ideas has been characterised in
the literature. It will be demonstrated that police independence and responsible government (that is,
police accountability) are not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Responsible government
Whereas the principle of the independence of the office of the constable serves to ensure that
police do not become the slave of any state or interest group, the principle of responsible
government can be usefully conceived of as ensuring that police remain the servants of the public
at large. Contrary to the idea that the police office is not a servant of anyone, save of the law itself
6, responsible government and police accountability measures aim to ensure that police forces are
answerable to the very communities which vest in the police force the right and responsibility for
upholding the law.
In practice, police accountability measures are usually tied into extensive governance frameworks,
laws and procedures, including: administrative mechanisms for handling citizen complaints; civil
actions and criminal prosecutions in the courts; the exclusion of improperly obtained evidence in
criminal trials; internal

Why We Should Eat Pork
It seems clear that, there are various different reasons why we consume pork and many people
would feel that all these reasons are enough to justify and explain its consumption. This could be
down to the nutritional value of the meat, the idea that if we didn t eat pigs then they wouldn t
exist in the first place and the philosophical views on the consumption of meat in the first place.
However, my research has also shown that there are many reasons why people feel we should not

The researchers also found that it s possible to train pigs and teach them different talents, such as
jumping hoops, bowing and playing video games as well as being able to learn routines quickly.
Many other scientists have also shown that pigs are highly intelligent, for example , We have
shown that pigs share a number of cognitive capacities with other highly intelligent species such as
dogs, chimpanzees, elephants, dolphins, and even humans, said neuroscientist Lori Marino of
Emory University . It was also discovered that pigs can understand basic symbolic language and
learn multiple signs for actions as well as placing coloured pig shaped blocks in the correct
coloured holes on a wooden board. They found that the pig can do this using its mouth and on its
own. The Discovery News has also reported that, pigs have complex social networks, with them
often learning from one another and cooperating together.
Lastly, researchers in the Netherlands carried out an experiment to understand the behaviours of
pigs in more depth. The experiment went as follows: pigs were placed in 16 groups of six, two
of the pigs in each of the groups were trained to expect either happiness or distress. This was done
by playing them music and either rewarding them with a treat such as chocolate raisins, or putting
them in a stressful situation, such as keeping them in isolation in a small pen. After that, untrained

Comparison Between Hamlet And Oedipus The King
Life From Prison to Prison The main characters in Fatih Akin s Head On, Shakespeare s Hamlet,
and Sophocles Oedipus the King are all subject to confinement in both similar and dissimilar ways
alike. All of these characters fall under the hand of family and cultural values, often having to suffer
from the actions of familymembers and the expectations forced upon them by their people. Yet,
these characters all endure other forms of confinement specific to their own situations; Sibel and
Cahit are entrapped by loveand marriage, Oedipus is restrained by his destiny and ignorance, and
Hamlet is imprisoned by trying to avenge his father s death. These constraints help the characters
find temporary salvation which is later overcome with... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This action emphasizes the love that Cahit had developed for Sibel, establishing the second
imprisonment in the film. Like Sibel, Oedipus is detained by his family and his culture. He is
the king of Thebes, a city that has recently succumbed to a terrible plague, and as king, he is
expected to find a solution to this problem. After sending his right hand man Creon to an oracle
and finding out that the man who killed King Laius, the former king of Thebes, is the one who
brought the plague upon Thebes, Oedipus calls for the village prophet to tell him who is the
murderer of Laius. Oedipus bothers the prophet Teiresias until he gets an answer, however, the
answer was not one to his liking; Teiresias tells Oedipus that [he is] the land s pollution (Line
353). This instant is where the audience becomes aware of Oedipus second prison: Ignorance.
Though he may not be aware of his own ignorance, it proves to play a large role as a confining
subject, just as love is for Cahit. The truth is something that Oedipus chooses to ignore, creating a
second trap for himself. Oedipus is choosing to oppress the truth, the very thing that could free
Thebes from its plight and himself from his own ignorance At the same time, this is also the
audience s first glimpse into Oedipus destiny, which, unbeknownst to him at the time, was to kill his
father and sleep with his mother. This prophecy is just one more thing that holds Oedipus back
from true freedom. In addition to

Examples Of Magical Realism In Bless Me Ultima
The conventions of Myths, Fables, and allegory all have magical elements in common like
magical realism. But what sets magical realism aside from these genres is that it portrays magical
or unrealistic elements in such a way that it is viewed as natural. Matthew Strecher defines magical
realism as what happens when a highly detailed realistic setting is invaded by something too strong
to believe . Some elements that authors use to support magical realismis using unexplainable things

The author of Bless Me, Ultima also uses this element using the Trementina sisters. In chapter 10
as ultima begins to heal lucas, the trementina sisters who have now morphed into coyotes begin
to howl in pain because of ultimas curse. Ultima says, oh those Trementina sisters are going to
have cuts and bruises tomorrow (95). It is known by the townspeople that witches have the
ability to turn into coyotes which is why it is accepted and ordinary. Another example of a
metamorphosis is in Big Fish when mr.calloway transforms into a werewolf. In the movie
Edward bloom was going to see Mr.Calloway at his trailer in the carnival but when he arrives he
notices the trailer shaking and trembling. When he opens the door expecting Mr.Calloway a
werewolf jumps out at him. We know the werewolf is Mr.Calloway because he is a harsh and
unwilling man which showed through the werewolfs actions. But after the wolf calms down
Edward actually beings to play fetch with him which shows that he did not see this as an odd
thing. Gabriel Garcia Marquez, a magical realism author, also uses this element in his story A
Very Old Man With Wings when carnival comes to town and the townspeople say she had been
changed into a spider for disobeying her parents. She was a frightful tarantula the size of a ram
and with the head of a sad maiden (10). Marquez uses imagery and other literary devices to show

NHS Scotland Deficit
I have chosen to investigate the NHS Scotland deficit. The NHS stands for the National Health
Service, which provides healthcare for all UK citizens based on their need for healthcare rather
than their ability to pay for it. It is funded by taxes. The NHS Scotland 15bn deficit needs to be
addressed as the service is over stretched, underfunded and many believe that it will have an
negative impact on society if it was to collapse. It is my belief that the NHS Scotland budget has
not kept in line with the rising demand for the for services, such as Obesity, Mental Health and
the growing population. I believe that to increase NHS funding we need to realistically rethinking

Research Paper On Hades Underworld
Hades, Ruler of the Underworld Hades, meaning the unseen , was the god of the Underworld. He
was the son of Cronus and Rhea and had three sisters, Hera, Demeter, and Hestia, along with two
brothers, Zeus and Posedion. This was the family that made up the six original Olympian gods.
The Titanomachy was a ten year divine war between Titans and the Olympians. This war was
fought to determine which generation of gods would have rule over the universe. The war
concluded with the victory of the Olympians, subsequently the three brothers cast lost for the
kingdoms. Posiedon took over the seas, Zeustook over the sky, and Hadestook over the infernal
lands of the Underworld. The Underworld, the realm in which the souls of the dead come to
rest, is described as a very daunting place. Many myths state that Hades was disappointed with
his turnout but had no other choice than to become ruler of the land. Hades is depicted as a very
stern and cold ruler, but he was more or less thought of as passive rather than evil. His primary
focus was to ensure that no soul ever left the Underworld. Alongside him was his wife and queen,
Persephone, who he acquired at the behest of Zeus by abducting her.... Show more content on

first in control of the Underworld he also had power over the earth, though he was very rarely

Tolstoy Double Standard
A double standard is a rule or principle that is applied to different groups or people in unfair
ways, being widely used as discriminatory, and to put down others in order to gain personal
benefits. In the novels of Flaubert and Tolstoy the double standard is mainly applied to separate
women from men, but also to separate social groups, in ranks and beliefs. In Tolstoy s novel, the
women especially upper class, had to speak French and English on alternate days , as said by
Levin (1.6.21), to whom it also seemed that the femaleside ... had no defects in them, ... possible
perfection. (1.6.21). During the time this novel was being written the feminist movement had

for women it was based on expectation and . In addition, when marriage comes a girl ... is

that when it comes to choose a partner for marriage, the expectations were higher for women than

The Deterrent Effect
Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do
not be too eager to deal out death in judgement. (J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring).
The killing of someone for a crime has been around for many years. As far back as Ancient Law
of China and the Code of King Hammurabi of Babylon, the death penalty has been established as
a punishment for crimes. One of the top argument in 1970 s, was general deterrence (Radelet
Borg 44). In addition around 1955 1975 people favored by a small 5% then by 1975 1995 it rose to
78% favored and 18% opposed (Goo). As you can see general deterrence had a great effect and

Male Dishonor as Guilt and Shame in The Rape of Lucrece...
Male Dishonor as Guilt and Shame in The Rape of Lucrece
Inasmuch as a woman s virginity or chastity is imagined as an object that can be owned, rape
becomes a property crime, consisting in the theft of a woman s virtue from its rightful owner, her
male guardian. Bernice Harris articulates this view with respect to Titus Andronicus: The
definition of the word is based on ownership: rape is an appropriate term only if what is taken is
not rightfully owned (388). The man who can claim ownership of a woman is subsequently
dishonored when she is violated: Honour, then, is a function of ownership (389).
While it is tempting to see the Shakespearean concept of rape entirely in such terms, such a view is

By contrast, the pagan humanist tradition, with its pantheon of capricious and often morally
suspect gods, upheld a highly public ideal of honor, whereby behavior could be regulated. Whereas
guilt can be either private or public, shame is necessarily a public affair. Guilt, as much a
theological as ethical construct, requires appropriate punishment, but shame requires simply
appropriate action to eliminate its source. Without dwelling on these distinctions, however,
Williams argues that in the early modern period these contradictory sets of values operated
simultaneously, and it is this tension that informs the often contradictory treatment of rape in such
texts as Titus Andronicus and Lucrece.
In The Rape of Lucrece this tension is worked out in the portrayals of the two primary male
characters. The text is overtly concerned with the question of male honor, and the damage done to
it by the act of rape. Contradictory to the predictions of the rape=theft equation, however, it is not
only Collatine, the injured husband, who is depicted as dishonored by the crime. Rather than as a
conquering hero, the rapist Tarquin is himself depicted as dishonored by his crime. The different
forms of dishonor incurred by the two men, I will argue, result from the judgments

What I have figured out from the watching the play was that love is powerful, and it can change
anything. During the play, Katherina portrayed as a very bitter person, who did not get along
with other people. However, at the end of the play, when the men started the bet on who is going
to be the submissive wife, surprisingly, it was Katherina who show up right away to her husband
while Bianca told her husband to come to her or such. Therefore, I believed one of the themes,
which this play is implying is that love is powerful that can change anything by

Nacirema Summary
When Abelard Schneider returned from his voyage to the primitive Nacirema tribes, one could
scarcely stop him in his excited rambling. He spoke in a frenzy, rarely pausing to accept
questions from his audience of peeved onlookers. Schneider s discoveries describe at great
length, the peculiar nature of Nacirema mating rituals, a world of bizarre customs and luxurious
excesses. It is well known that the Nacirema engage in an elaborate rite which they call a
gniddew; each tribesperson is expected to undergo this ritual at least once, though some endure it
many times and others never do. Perhaps the most peculiar of gniddew excesses is the sserd, a
ritual cloth with beauty reflected by its price. Hours are spent in anticipation of the sserd s

Gas Chromatography
Further investigate and determine its identity. By utilizing chromatography, a forensic analyst can
identify each material and/or chemical that were meshed together to form the sample under
investigation. The identification can be determined once the sample is placed in a liquid or when
absorbed on a solid surface, and the separation of the molecules becomes either mobile or
stationary. This basic analytical technique is beneficial with classifying drugs that has been
collected from a crime scene and transported to a crime laboratory for analyses. There are four
main variations of chromatography, however, Gas Chromatographyis the most widely used
technique (Woodford, 2017). Gas chromatography is a valuable method in forensic science because

In most cases, a deceased victim experienced a violent attack that may have resulted in open
wounds and exposed flesh. Once a person blood supply stops and their respiratory system shuts
down, decomposition begins immediately (What Are The Four Stages of Human
Decomposition, 2017). As a result, bodily fluids and gasses are released from the body into the
air and emanates a distinctive smell which attract insects. When insects are present at the scene
of the crime, investigators rely on forensic entomologists to observe various type of insects for
the estimate time of death. The type of insects that are located on the dead body and the
surrounding area depends on the geographical location such as urban and rural areas, and
environmental temperatures. One of the most common type of insects that a forensic
entomologist will notice is a blowfly. A blowfly can withstand any type of environmental
temperatures in all geographical areas. Blowflies are attracted to fresh dead corpses and can
indicate that the victim s death just occurred. However, the presence of maggots feeding on the
flesh of the body can inform entomologist that the blowfly laid eggs and the body has been there
for some time. Maggots are important because they must complete a life cycle to transform into
blowfly. The blow fly life cycle has six parts, and each cycle various in time of completion. To
figure out what time the death occurred, entomologists would examine a maggot that is more
developed than the others. On the other hand, if there are empty pupal cases collected from the
body, entomologists can determine that a fly has completed an entire life cycle and the body was
there for one hundred and forty three hours (Life Cycle of the Blowfly, 2014) or 6 days. The
presence of beetles is a

College Essay On Peer Pressure
Eyeballing the Gatorade bottle as it became full of smoke, I knew I had caved into peer pressure.
Peer pressure can be a big obstacle for lots of teens. Although peer pressure can sometimes be a
positive, it is often harmful and damaging. That type of negative influence from one s peers can
lead them to try things they usually would have no interest in trying. When I was about to turn
thirteen, I learned just how true my previous statement was. All it took for me to experience peer
pressure for the first time was a couple of grams of marijuana.
When I was younger, I would spend most of my summer nights playing video games with my
friends. Most nights, you would find me with one friend in particular, and that friend was (at the
time) sixteen year old Kevin Gomez. I would walk to Kevin s house since he lived a couple of
minutes away from me. This night however, Kevin and I agreed to meet at his aunt s house due to
her being on vacation.
Sitting on his aunt s beige couches that had been wrapped in plastic, we had begun the night the
exact way we had begun any other night, by playing video games. We were roughly an hour into
our gaming session, when from the corner of my eye I spotted Kevin reaching for something from
inside his right pocket. He pulled out what appeared to be a tiny plastic bag. The moment he
opened the bag I knew exactly what he had brought with him. Instantly the smell of skunk had filled
my nostrils.
You tryna smoke? Kevin said as he set his PlayStation

The Years 1918-1939, Which Separate World War I From World
The years 1918 1939, which separate World War I from World War II, witnessed profound changes
in how technologically advanced military organizations would fight. In most of the cases, during
peacetime, military innovation, and technological developments played an empowering or helping
role in advancing profoundly new and more operative ways of fighting. In a narrow and strict
sense, such innovative improvements were revolutionary. The technological revolution reached the
battlefields and forever changed the way that armies required from the fragile airplanes and
unreliable tanks of World War Ito evolve into more sophisticated weapons by the late 1930s.

Consequently, to the influence of World War I boosted Germany to develop early by the 1920s the
coherent combined arms doctrine that focused on decentralization command and control or mission

defensive systems.
One of the lessons learned after the first world conflict is the necessity of using the third
dimension on military operations. That assumption has been conceptualizing by theorist through
doctrine and implements differently from one country to another. The doctrine concerning air
force warfare was a direct influence of World War I as a revolution on this domain. The challenge
of many military theorists concerned the emergence of the aircraft as a weapon and the adaptation
of this emerging capability on military operations. One of the Airpower advocates Giulio Douhet
consider the airpower as a tool to use to avoid trench warfare and dramatically shorten wars. Thus,
aircraft would attack an enemy s sources of assets and it is the key to destroying the

Benefits Of Developing Marketing Strategies
When developing marketing strategies, using a benefits approach is often considered the best
way to go. Because of this, the advantages of a features approach, or even a combine approach,
are overlooked. This report looks deeper into both a benefits approach and a features approach in
order to determined which approach is the best option for Big Iron. In order to answer this
question, several questions were addressed: what are the advantages to a benefits approach; what
are the advantages to a features approach; what are the disadvantages to strictly using one approach,
and; what are the benefits to using both? In order to answer these questions primary research,
analysing the major automobilemanufacturer s advertisements, was conducted. Ten ads from a
variety of companies were analysed by asking the questions: what type of approach, benefits,
features or both, are the major vehicle manufacturers using in their advertisements; What are the
benefits appealing to, and; what do the features say about the products? Determining the target
audiencewas also a part of the analysis, as all are advertisements should be audience specific.
Secondary research was also conducted in order get a better understanding why the major
automobile manufactures prefer a specific approach. Based on the research that was conducted, it
is recommended that Big Iron use both a benefits approach and a features approach for number of
reasons. 1. Both a benefit and features approach, have

Advantages Of Franchising
Franchising is a type of business in which a business grants the other business the right to use the
brand name, business systems and processes in order to produce goods and services according to
certain specifications. The party which gives out the rights to the other party to use their name is
called the franchisor and the party purchasing the rights of the other business to use their name is
known as the franchisee. Franchisingis a type of a license given by the franchisor to the franchisee
in order to allow the franchisee to sell goods and services under the name of the franchisor; the
franchisee pays a certain amount of fees to the franchisor to buy their license. Franchising is one of

There are many advantages of investing money in a franchise such as; a franchise includes an
already established business with a known brand name by the people. Franchise comes up with
an established business system which includes products and services. The franchisor offers the
franchisee the training of employees, financial planning of the business and also approved
suppliers. The disadvantages of franchising are there too, a lot of investment is required in order
to buy the rights of the franchisor as well as on going royalty costs is costly. Other disadvantages
include, less creativity since the franchisee lacks the control in the territory because the franchisee
has to work according the business system of the franchisor. The business of franchising is a way
to grow the operations of a business; it allows the franchisor to sell its products a bigger market.
The beauty of franchising is that it allows both the parties, the franchisor and the franchisee to have
a win win situation, franchisors who want to grow their business with a less amount of investment
and franchisee who wants to do business without starting from the

Freewill Essay
Freewill
Many have wondered whether free will exists or not. Some argue yes, some argue no. For now, I
will say no. I will begin my argument with a scenario. Say a man has an enemy that he hates
very strongly. One day this guy makes a conscious decision to kill his enemy. He calculates every
move he needs to make to kill his enemy and succeeds in doing so. Clearly, this man is guilty of
murder. The question is, should blame fall on this man for killing another?
Currently, all societies in the world are built around some moral basis that holds a person
responsible for their actions. A determinist, however, would disagree and say that people are not
free, and therefore are not at fault for their actions. Human acts are ... Show more content on

There are certain variables, like baking a cake, which are accounted for such as being late, the rush
it gives, or just because the wind feels good.
Whatever the case may be, the act is caused. In the eyes of a determinist, caused acts have only
one option. If there is only one option, then there is no freedom. So, the question arises, are all acts
caused? To answer this question we must first look at the human brainand mind. Historically, when
we talk about human acts we seem to be able to predict why a human acted the way they did. For
example, while watching something like Montel, the host attempts to reason why a person s
problem occurred. The audience then makes suggestions on how to remedy the situation. If the
topic is about relationships, then the show leads to questions about relationships and why they
occur. Just about every time a guest asks a question about an abusive boyfriend, the host asks
what their family life was like. The overwhelming response is that people who enter into abusive
relationships had abusive families. If we relate this back to the human brain and say an abusive
family is a variable for an abusive boyfriend, we find that this act can be predicted.
The human mind/brain appears to be broken into two parts. The first we will call instinct. The
human instinct consists of all things that are embedded in the human mind for survival, like the need

  • 3. Ballet Shot Analysis Following this long shot we are shown a close up shot of Nina s foot, during this shot Nina is practicing a fouettГ©. The purpose of this shot is to convey to the viewer how much pressure Nina is placing on her body, in particular, her feet. A lot of ballet in danced en pointe (on the tip of a person s toes), this sort of pressure can be detrimental to one s physical well being. A lot of members in the audience will have prior knowledge of how painful and strenuous it can be to place all of your body weight on just your toes, thus reinforcing to the audience the large amount of pressure Nina is forcing upon herself. The audience can also see the scuff marks on the floor, this effectively demonstrates just how much time Nina dedicates to practicing at home. As an audience, we generally know from personal experience and exposure that this is what wood looks like after it has been scratched and used excessively. From this the audience is able to interpret the extent to which this area has been used. Nina s extensive and obsessive practice schedule has placed so much pressure and friction on the wood that her petite body was successful in wearing away the surface of the wood. ... This reaffirms the idea of obsession to the audience, confirming to them that the purposeful addition of the ballet shoes in the background of this shot effectively demonstrate how Nina s obsession is increasing, and how this leads to her inevitable self destruction later on in the ... • 4. The Women Of The Care Act Of 2010 If You Offer It, They Might Come Back: Eliminating Barriers to Accessing Contraception Executive Summary/Abstract More than half of all women of reproductive age in the United States use some form of contraceptive (Daniels, Daugherty, and Jones, 2014). Of those, most are on the oral contraceptive pill. Even with new regulations in place to supposedly increase access to preventive services, there is still an issue of women who are sexually active, do not wish to become pregnant within the next year, and who are not using a form of contraception. Clinician and facility based barriers are the largest deterrent for these women. By removing the barriers to contraceptive counseling and services, women will have greater access to their health. Where Are the Barriers? One of the highlighted provisions within the Affordable Care Act of 2010 was the coverage for all FDA approved forms of contraception without a co pay. For many patients, this was able to eliminate a financial barrier. However, the largest barriers remain with the clinicians who provide contraception to patients. In a 2014 report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, unnecessary medical procedures were cited as barriers to accessing contraception. Among these were pelvic examinations, routine pregnancy testing, HIV screening, and cervical cytology exams. Notably, there are some instances, as listed out in the United States Medical Eligibility Criteria for Contraceptive Use (USMEC), which would require ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Individualistic Qualities Of Characters In Joseph Heller s... The characters of Catch 22 each had individualistic qualities that gave more meaning to the novel. They added to the central message of the novel which focuses on the shortcomings of human nature with Joseph Heller s clever use of intricate, supporting characters. Many characters reminded me of songs, particularly Hungry Joe, Major Major Major Major, and Colonel Cathcart. Hungry Joe is a bomber of the 256th bombing squadron. He has completed the number of missions several times and is shell shocked, similar to ptsd, from knowing he can t go home. If a soldier does reach the goal, Colonel Cathcart simply commands them to stay since all soldiers must listen to their commanding officer. As the reader continues, it becomes clear that his desperation to be protomed to a general is the cause for his many irrational judgments. This includes ruining Major Major s life by promoting him in front of his friends and dismissing the chaplain s pleas to fix issues within the soldiers. When faced with any setbacks such as McWatt s suicide, Doc Daneeka s apparent death, and Milo s disloyalty, raising the number of required mission is his method of relieving the issue. In short, he does not care that his actions endanger his mens lives and he does not honor the bond between soldiers and their officers. Every action is designed to please and impress his superiors as well as the public. In chapter 19, Colonel Cathcart and the chaplain discuss group prayers before each mission. The colonel s motive is to get his name in the Saturday Evening Post, desiring fame and recognition. He also wanted to exclude any mention religion: Haven t you got anything humorous that stays away from waters and valleys and God? Single Mom The Sum Up: It Ain t Easy Being A Single Mom Apparently, among the myopic ultra conservative pundits of conventional wisdom, there is more than enough of the blaming, shaming and lumping of single mothers into to one maternal heap of failure. But that is blatantly unfair. It is undeniable that many women who find themselves single mothers living in a tough economic situation made poor choices about planning for motherhood. However, given that single mothers from a diversity of backgrounds are much more likely to be living with economic insecurity than single fathers, it can t all be due to low income women s lousy decision making or a lack of financial self restraint or a weak motivation to get a good education and job. Without Christ, Christianity would not exist and there would be no followers of Christ. To be true followers of Christ, believers must be willing to learn of the ways and teachings of Christ. Christians must submit to Christ in order to be used by Christ. When a person submits to Christ, the Holy Spirit will empower him to be used of God. If a person does not submit to Christ, then the Holy Spirit will be quenched and the Christian will be disciplined by God. Disciples of Christ do not receive salvation because they obey God, but they obey God and submit to Christ because they have salvation (Rogers, Adrian, 2005). Jesus told the disciples that if they call him Lord they must do what he commands (Matthew 7:22). To be a disciple of Christ, we must submit to Jesus and trust that He is our Lord and Savior. • 9. Animals Should Not Be Zoos Imagine being a zoo animal. Wouldn t the animal want to be free, and not in captivity? There should not be zoos. From outside of a cage it is barely noticeable, but what is happening to the zoo animals is not right. There should not be zoos because animals cannot exercise which leads to health issues, they have little to no space which causes depression, and there are other places that help animals in a safer and more productive way. The history of zoos is that animals would be in tin cages, now, they live in fake terrain, so none of these habitats are appropriate for animals. Zoos say that they are helping endangered animals, but really they are killing them. Most animals in zoos do not get enough exercise as part of their daily schedule, and when animals exercise is lacking, health issues are occurring more frequently. For instance, stressed animals signal depression or psychoses. When elephants at zoos sway from side to side, the people outside of the cage believe it is a normal motion for the animal, but it is actually a signal of stress. Behaviors like these are mainly caused by a lack of privacy, mental stimulation and physical exercise. To help the animals, some zoos give tranquilizers or antidepressants to control these kinds of behaviors in animals. Animals do not deserve this, but still lack exercise. For example, cheetahs in the wild pace 0% to 5% of their day, but at the Milwaukee County Zoo, 64% of their day is spent doing this. Cheetahs are one of the most endangered animals at the zoo because at zoos they only live to age 16 or 17, while in the wild they live to be 30 or older. As a result of this lack of exercise provided by zoos, zoos are not matching the animals natural exercise behaviors, so the animals become unhealthy. Most animals stuck in zoos live by themselves even if they are meant to live in herds. While in the wild, playful african elephants live peacefully and splash each other with their trunks. In zoos with cages there is not enough space to play and enjoy themselves. The average size of elephants is 7 feet, and they live in 12 foot enclosed cages, so that leaves them with only 5 feet to move around. Elephants can not move, nor use their trunks and this causes them to die ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It allows us to express joy, anger, sadness, love, pain, and bittersweet moments that we experience in our lifetime. Creating music can be simple or complicated, and it all depends on how we create it. We can create music easily with our bodies by tapping our shoes and snapping our fingers, or we can make it a more complex task by using our voice and musical instruments. Music is definitely an essential part of our social environment because it makes our lives more lively, interesting, and passionate. Moreover, music inspires not only musicians, singers, or compositors, but it also inspires dancers. Dancers that glide their feet, turn around, and jump at the rhythmic sounds while moving along with the music is what I find most captivating. I think that music transcends time because people of all ages can find a way to enjoy and express themselves through music. At last, I attended a ballet show at the Dance Theatre of Dalton, and enjoyed the dance as much I enjoyed the music. My favorite pieces of the night were the following: Touch The Sky, A group of twelve girls were standing proud and ready at the stage. All wearing beautiful dresses and a pair of glittery green wings. Their hair was fixed in a hair bun at the top of their heads, and also wore a bit of makeup that illuminated their smiling faces. Asian American actors and actresses are portrayed in Hollywood movies as always being the silent and yielding foreign victims to social injustice and prejudice. Whether or not these depictions are true, they are nonetheless stereotypes that Hollywood producers have come up with. According to the US Census in the year 2000, Asian Americans make up 4.2% of the entire American population, and knowing that most Asian Americans live on the west and east coast of the United States, many Americans living in central parts of this country have not really been exposed to any Asian Americans. In Richard Fung s analysis on Sally s Beauty Spot, The fact that Sally never kisses an Asian unfortunately reflects the absence of Asian men from Western sexual representation (Fung 169). Asian actors rarely get to be involved in on screen romantic relationships with their co star Asian actresses because Hollywood does not believe Asian men are capable of being sexual. They would rather have them doing fighting scenes or even playing nerdy roles than to allow them to do romantic scenes. Similarly, in the James Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies, only Bond is involved in a relationship with the Asian female character played by Michelle Yeoh. The definition of propaganda is information, especially of a biased or misleading nature, used to promote or publicize a particular political cause or point of view . The Nazis used propaganda as a method to spread their views and to encourage the Germans to support Hitler. Some of the main themes of propaganda was to demonise groups of people (races, religions e.c.t); to portray Hitler as a strong and powerful leader; to emphasise the values of Nazi Germany and to promote the idea of an Aryan Germany having superiority above all other countries. The person in charge of propaganda was Josef Goebbels, who Hitler placed in charge of the Ministry of Public Enlightenment and Propaganda. This department used many methods to enlighten the public for example different art forms including music and cinema, radio, the press, literature, rallies, posters and sports. The Nazis used various different forms of art to subtly put across their messages to the people and Germany. For example film and theatre which Goebbels thought was essential for influencing the mass . To do this he made film much more accessible for people so that more people could be influenced. They did this because they saw the growing interest in film industry, with films growing in both production and audience. They are a religious group that has upheld the standards of a life far removed from the modern world. The Amish come from descendants from German speaking nations in and around Europe (Henderson, 2010). As such, church hymns and other important documents are written in a type of Germanic language, known sometimes as Pennsylvania Dutch. German and Pennsylvania Dutch are still common methods for formal communication within the Amish community, although most of its members speak English in informal situations. The community also upholds social roles that many would find outdated. Women are restricted to the household, and thus their roles are severely limited compared to women in modern communities. It is the men that have more freedom within the community. Also, many within the Amish community tend to take the view point that everything happens for a reason. This then impacts their overall view of individual health and tragedies. When an individual gets sick or dies, many within the community believe it was God s will, and so often not much is done to prevent God s will from manifesting (Henderson, 2010). American Realism
11/20/16 Philosophies of Sister Carrie
There are few writers that could create a body of work that encompasses as many concepts as Theodore Dreiser s Sister Carrie. His novel follows the life and times of Carrie, a country bell of sorts who abandons her way of life in favor of a city lifestyle. Through through Carries progress, Dreiser embodies many philosophies of intelligence, experience, and personal growth. Many great philosophers have touched subjects that are apparent in Dreiser s work. Sister Carrie epitomizes many ideas defined by great thinkers such as Eleanor Roosevelt, Lev S. Vygotsky, and Aristotle. Eleanor Roosevelt once said that Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people. Dreiser clearly hoped to convey a similar message in this novel. At the beginning of Carrie s journey she converses with a man named Chas. H. Drouet And so this is your first visit to Chicago, he observed. All the time she was conscious of certain features out of the side of her eye. Flush, colorful cheeks, a light mustache, a gray fedora hat. She now turned and looked upon him in full, the instincts of self protection and coquetry mingling confusedly in her brain. I didn t say that, she said. Oh, he answered in a very pleasing way and with an assumed air of mistake. I thought you did. All of these characters fall under the hand of family and cultural values, often having to suffer from the actions of familymembers and the expectations forced upon them by their people. Yet, these characters all endure other forms of confinement specific to their own situations; Sibel and Cahit are entrapped by loveand marriage, Oedipus is restrained by his destiny and ignorance, and Hamlet is imprisoned by trying to avenge his father s death. He is the king of Thebes, a city that has recently succumbed to a terrible plague, and as king, he is expected to find a solution to this problem. After sending his right hand man Creon to an oracle and finding out that the man who killed King Laius, the former king of Thebes, is the one who brought the plague upon Thebes, Oedipus calls for the village prophet to tell him who is the murderer of Laius. Oedipus bothers the prophet Teiresias until he gets an answer, however, the answer was not one to his liking; Teiresias tells Oedipus that [he is] the land s pollution (Line 353). This instant is where the audience becomes aware of Oedipus second prison: Ignorance. Though he may not be aware of his own ignorance, it proves to play a large role as a confining subject, just as love is for Cahit. The truth is something that Oedipus chooses to ignore, creating a second trap for himself. Oedipus is choosing to oppress the truth, the very thing that could free Thebes from its plight and himself from his own ignorance At the same time, this is also the audience s first glimpse into Oedipus destiny, which, unbeknownst to him at the time, was to kill his father and sleep with his mother. Male Dishonor as Guilt and Shame in The Rape of Lucrece Inasmuch as a woman s virginity or chastity is imagined as an object that can be owned, rape becomes a property crime, consisting in the theft of a woman s virtue from its rightful owner, her male guardian. Bernice Harris articulates this view with respect to Titus Andronicus: The definition of the word is based on ownership: rape is an appropriate term only if what is taken is not rightfully owned (388). The man who can claim ownership of a woman is subsequently dishonored when she is violated: Honour, then, is a function of ownership (389). By contrast, the pagan humanist tradition, with its pantheon of capricious and often morally suspect gods, upheld a highly public ideal of honor, whereby behavior could be regulated. Whereas guilt can be either private or public, shame is necessarily a public affair. Guilt, as much a theological as ethical construct, requires appropriate punishment, but shame requires simply appropriate action to eliminate its source. Without dwelling on these distinctions, however, Williams argues that in the early modern period these contradictory sets of values operated simultaneously, and it is this tension that informs the often contradictory treatment of rape in such texts as Titus Andronicus and Lucrece. In The Rape of Lucrece this tension is worked out in the portrayals of the two primary male characters. The text is overtly concerned with the question of male honor, and the damage done to it by the act of rape. Contradictory to the predictions of the rape=theft equation, however, it is not only Collatine, the injured husband, who is depicted as dishonored by the crime. Rather than as a conquering hero, the rapist Tarquin is himself depicted as dishonored by his crime. As a result, bodily fluids and gasses are released from the body into the air and emanates a distinctive smell which attract insects. When insects are present at the scene of the crime, investigators rely on forensic entomologists to observe various type of insects for the estimate time of death. The type of insects that are located on the dead body and the surrounding area depends on the geographical location such as urban and rural areas, and environmental temperatures. One of the most common type of insects that a forensic entomologist will notice is a blowfly. A blowfly can withstand any type of environmental temperatures in all geographical areas. Blowflies are attracted to fresh dead corpses and can indicate that the victim s death just occurred. However, the presence of maggots feeding on the flesh of the body can inform entomologist that the blowfly laid eggs and the body has been there for some time. Maggots are important because they must complete a life cycle to transform into blowfly. The blow fly life cycle has six parts, and each cycle various in time of completion. To figure out what time the death occurred, entomologists would examine a maggot that is more developed than the others. On the other hand, if there are empty pupal cases collected from the body, entomologists can determine that a fly has completed an entire life cycle and the body was there for one hundred and forty three hours (Life Cycle of the Blowfly, 2014) or 6 days. The presence of beetles is a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. College Essay On Peer Pressure Eyeballing the Gatorade bottle as it became full of smoke, I knew I had caved into peer pressure. Peer pressure can be a big obstacle for lots of teens. Although peer pressure can sometimes be a positive, it is often harmful and damaging. That type of negative influence from one s peers can lead them to try things they usually would have no interest in trying. When I was about to turn thirteen, I learned just how true my previous statement was. All it took for me to experience peer pressure for the first time was a couple of grams of marijuana. When I was younger, I would spend most of my summer nights playing video games with my friends. Most nights, you would find me with one friend in particular, and that friend was (at the time) sixteen year old Kevin Gomez. I would walk to Kevin s house since he lived a couple of minutes away from me. This night however, Kevin and I agreed to meet at his aunt s house due to her being on vacation. Sitting on his aunt s beige couches that had been wrapped in plastic, we had begun the night the exact way we had begun any other night, by playing video games. We were roughly an hour into our gaming session, when from the corner of my eye I spotted Kevin reaching for something from inside his right pocket. He pulled out what appeared to be a tiny plastic bag. The moment he opened the bag I knew exactly what he had brought with him. Instantly the smell of skunk had filled my nostrils. You tryna smoke? Kevin said as he set his PlayStation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 51. Freewill Essay Freewill Many have wondered whether free will exists or not. Some argue yes, some argue no. For now, I will say no. I will begin my argument with a scenario. Say a man has an enemy that he hates very strongly. One day this guy makes a conscious decision to kill his enemy. He calculates every move he needs to make to kill his enemy and succeeds in doing so. Clearly, this man is guilty of murder. The question is, should blame fall on this man for killing another? Currently, all societies in the world are built around some moral basis that holds a person responsible for their actions. A determinist, however, would disagree and say that people are not free, and therefore are not at fault for their actions. Human acts are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are certain variables, like baking a cake, which are accounted for such as being late, the rush it gives, or just because the wind feels good. Whatever the case may be, the act is caused. In the eyes of a determinist, caused acts have only one option. If there is only one option, then there is no freedom. So, the question arises, are all acts caused? To answer this question we must first look at the human brainand mind. Historically, when we talk about human acts we seem to be able to predict why a human acted the way they did. For example, while watching something like Montel, the host attempts to reason why a person s problem occurred. The audience then makes suggestions on how to remedy the situation. If the topic is about relationships, then the show leads to questions about relationships and why they occur. Just about every time a guest asks a question about an abusive boyfriend, the host asks what their family life was like. The overwhelming response is that people who enter into abusive relationships had abusive families. If we relate this back to the human brain and say an abusive family is a variable for an abusive boyfriend, we find that this act can be predicted. The human mind/brain appears to be broken into two parts. The first we will call instinct. The human instinct consists of all things that are embedded in the human mind for survival, like the need ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
