1. How To Write A Thesis Sentence For An
Essay
Crafting an essay on the intricacies of formulating a thesis sentence for an essay can be a
challenging endeavor. The difficulty lies in the need to strike a delicate balance between
providing comprehensive guidance and avoiding overwhelming the reader with too much
information. It requires a keen understanding of the nuances involved in constructing a thesis
sentence – a task that goes beyond the mere act of summarizing the main point of an essay.
To begin with, one must delve into the various types of essays and their unique requirements for
thesis statements. This involves navigating through the terrain of argumentative, expository,
analytical, and other essay genres. Each necessitates a different approach to crafting a thesis,
demanding a nuanced understanding of the specific goals and expectations associated with each
type.
Furthermore, articulating the essential elements of a thesis sentence, such as clarity, specificity,
and relevance, poses a challenge. The writer must convey the importance of a well-crafted thesis
in guiding the reader and providing a roadmap for the essay, all while avoiding vagueness or
ambiguity. Striking the right balance between being informative and concise adds an extra layer
of complexity to the task.
Additionally, the essay should address the common pitfalls and mistakes that writers may
encounter in the process of creating a thesis sentence. Discussing how to refine and revise the
thesis for optimal impact involves a nuanced exploration of language and structure, requiring a
level of detail that might prove challenging for both novice and experienced writers alike.
In conclusion, crafting an essay on the topic of creating a thesis sentence for an essay demands a
comprehensive understanding of various essay types, a nuanced exploration of essential
elements, and a careful examination of potential pitfalls. It requires the writer to impart valuable
insights without overwhelming the reader, making it a task that requires both expertise in writing
and a deep understanding of the subject matter.

Industry Analysis Used car market was a huge market with attractive growth
opportunities during 1980s. It was estimated worth $ 375 billion market.
Competition was so deeply fragmented that no single dealership could claim more
than a few percentage points share of the used car market in any locale. New car
dealerships were the largest sellers of used cars. 65 % of late model, used vehicles
were sold by 21,800 new car dealers through out United States. However most of
these new car dealers considered used cars a secondary business. The remaining 35 %
was a mix of independent used car dealers and private sales. Between 1985 and 2001,
the year over year change in used units sold averaged less than two percent up or

Autonation, the major competitor of CarMax, copied CarMax s model, stores,
consumers offers, and entered the same market and were the first to enter other
markets. This forced CarMax to grow more quickly than they originally intended.
New car dealer incentives and the low financing rates some times increased
demand for new cars among buyers who would otherwise be looking to buy a low
mileage, late model used cars. The competitors in this industry are like the ants
army. They are large in number but small in size. Company Analysis Before
CarMax, public image of stereo salesperson was extremely poor in the used car
Industry and people were unhappy with their used car buying experiences.
Consumers did not want to play games while shopping for used cars. They wanted
to know the price of every component of the sales transaction such as the price of
the car, the price of the extended service plan, the price of financing and
accessories. Consumer did not want to drive all over town to find the car they
wanted. They simply wanted a trustworthy car, not В‘someone else s lemon.
Keeping these factors in mind, CarMax was established in 1991 as a subsidiary of
Circuit City as an attempt to extend Circuit City s business activities in more
profitable sectors. The used car market at that point of time was a huge market with

him. He was bound to Amalek as a blacksmith. He ran away to the caves and was

he had to start taking care of Leah. He started working in Simons shop as a

boys to fight the Romans. Leah began to get better and help with housework. He
had to carry a Romans pack for a mile. Joel was captured, and Daniels band helped to
rescue him.
4. Dr Van Helsing In Dracula
Dracula: The Secret Identity of Van Helsing
In Bram Stoker s 1879 novel, Dracula, after the vampire, Count Dracula, runs loose
in the streets of London our main characters Jonathan and Mina Harker, Dr. Seward,
and Lucy Westenra team up to free themselves from his reign of terror. In the midst
of their struggle, Dr. Seward calls upon a former professor of his for help, a
mysterious Dr. Abraham Van Helsing
. Throughout the novel Dr.Van Helsing has
been described as an older, dutch man who is incredibly smart, and well versed in
the supernatural, though he speaks poor English. From his first appearance onward
Van Helsing, leads the group in their search for Draculaas the resident vampire

Dr.Van Helsing claims that when Dracula was alive there was no branch of
knowledge of his time that he did not essay (Stoker 320). Clearly, Dracula shares a
passion for science and learning with Dr.Van Helsing. The most bizarre interest
between them however is Dr.Van Helsing s obsession with vampires. Such a morbid
interest would be strange for a man during the Victorian Era, unless Dr.Van Helsing
himself was a vampire. All things considered, if Dracula had a secret identity surely
he would create a persona that would allow him to pursue his interests.
More evidence that supports my hypothesis is the timeline of the story. Dr.Van
Helsing first appears in the story when he is summoned by his former student,
Dr.Seaward, to help save Lucy Westenra s life after being bitten by a vampire.
Conveniently, Dr.Van Helsing is able to stop everything he s doing and travel to
London, where the Count is headed as well. While the protagonists are waiting for
Dr.Van Helsing s arrival, Dracula has been feeding on the living, which is known to

ISSUES COMING IN BETWEEN THE MERGER
Reliance Communications loan specialists China Development Bank, Standard

proposition to be conceded by the tribunal for a last hearing. Be that as it may,
hardware provider Ericsson, which have extraordinary levy to recoup from RCom,
and GTL Infrastructure s Chennai Network Infrastructure, which had purchased
17,500 portable towers from Aircel, have questioned the merger proposition being
heard by the tribunal.
RCom and Ericsson legal advisors differ on the quantum of contribution the
previous owed to the last mentioned. Chennai Network, spoke to by senior advice R
Kadam, said a meeting of the considerable number of loan bosses was not called and
they have to know the effect of the merger before accepting the call .
China Development Bank (CDB), spoke to by senior direction Darius Khambata, told
the NCLT seat that in spite of the fact that its protests remained, the bank has been
guaranteed that no benefit will be moved in the RCom Aircel merger without its

Standard Chartered Bank, as well, gave its agree to the merger proposition being
taken ahead for the last hearing. The two banks have maintained their authority to

6. The Success Of A Brand New Group
From job interviews to making friends in a brand new group, communication is the
forerunner in determining the success of every connection between two or more
people. I ve never taken any classes focusing on public speaking or other types of
communication before, yet my strengths and weaknesses within it determine the
outcome of my daily and professional experiences. In both casual and professional
conversations I am usually very shy I m afraid of what others involved will think
of what I say. To combat this, I ve developed a nasty sense of false confidence. I
feign an almost aggressive, standoffish attitude to assert myself, pushing people
away or making them feel uneasy. I ve been doing this for as long as I can remember;
it came from... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Primarily, I would like to develop ethical communication skills. I admit, I have
trouble with empathy and understanding how others feel. I ve gotten much better in
terms of considering others viewpoints, but I still struggle to take opposing sides
seriously or consider their arguments. I tend to focus on hard facts, forgoing
emotion entirely. Because of this, I would like to increase my personal perspective
skills as well as my situational perspective skills (Hunt, Simmons, Simonds, 2013).
Since empathy doesn t necessarily come naturally to me, I have to practice
empathetic behavior in my daily life. I work on putting myself in others shoes,
considering their personal perspectives and why they might feel the way they do. I
listen first and foremost by reducing my interruptions and seriously considering what
others say. I use body language to my advantage. For example, if someone else is
speaking, I usually try to engage in very subtle submissive body language while
responding nonverbally. If I agree with what they re saying, I nod. Humans are highly
emotional creatures, and as such, little gestures such as eye contact or nodding matter
in communicating empathetically. If I am more empathetic, then other perspectives
that I may not understand will not be so jarring, they will be a learning experience. In
persuasive or debate situations, this will assist me in creating a counterargument and
7. Aspects of Research
INTRODUCTION
Understanding what research is in the first place aids in the knowing what its key
aspects are. Understanding entails critically going through the various definitions of
research to see some similarities regarding what research seems to address. It must
also be taken into consideration that there are types of research that exist for example
historical research, artistic research, and scientific research (Wikipedia, 2010).
To look into the definitions of research, we would start with the recommended book
for this module Projects in Computing and Information Systems (second edition) by
Christian Dawson (2009). The definition found in this book even though it is a
definition by the Higher Education Funding Council for England ... Show more

Dawson, 2009). The difference in approach could be in the form of use of different
tools, techniques, and utilization of available data just to mention a few. With a vast
number of fields of study and quite a number of researchers investigating into those
fields, originality in the form of doing what has never been done can be of
importance to world knowledge even though it seems to be the most difficult type of
research to embark on as far as originality is concerned.
Methodology or Systematic
Research is not something that is done without consideration of the existing
knowledge about the subject in question, methods of going about the research and
so on. The process in which research is done methodological therefore knowledge
about how to go about it is important. A very good example of this is the Research
Methods Training which we currently undergoing in order to understand how to go
about research as far as the Dissertation module is concerned.
Contribution (Knowledge)
Knowledge is a high level of understanding of things (C. Dawson, 2009). It is the use
of information obtained from data in understanding why or how certain things
happen. Even though it reflects a personal interpretation of what is obtained from
information, knowledge in the world can be seen in books, journals, models, theories
and concepts. Adding to
8. Why Germany Lost the World War Two
Why Germany Lost the World War 2 After WW I Germany had many economic
and political problems that allowed Adolph Hitler to become ruler of Germany.
After Hitler appointed himself chancellor he started rebuilding the German military.
After years of no international response to breaking the Treaty of Versailles
Germany attacked Poland. From 1939 to 1941 Germany had won many victories;
however 1941 was a turning point in the war. By the end of 1941 Germany would
continuously lose land to the allies with the exception of the Battle of the Bulge. The
main reasons for Germany s defeat were that they were fighting the war in too many
fronts, poor leadership and the invasion of Russia. Firstly, Germany is surrounded by

The Japanese sent a group of planes from the air force to bomb a small port in
America named Pearl Harbour. This fired the Americans up so much so that they
joined the war to defeat Hitler. Deciding to attack Russia was a bad idea, as well as
declaring war on the US. Both of these countries could substantially out produce
Germany. Although Germany took the initiative both times, they may have had little
choice. The United States would have entered the war one way or another due to the
fact that Britain was their closest ally, and they could not sit and watch them be
destroyed by Germany. Russia was planning on entering the war a few months after
Germany attacked her anyway. [This view that the Soviet Union was preparing a pre
emptive strike against Germany is not widely accepted]. Hence even thought
Germany was a powerful country over all, there were many things to work on which
brought this country down. Germany lost the war because of many reasons but the
main three would be fighting the war in too many fronts, poor leadership and the

9. Computers And Humans Technological Advances
Computers and Humans Technological advances have clearly been faster in
recent years than in all human history. Artificial intelligence is growing at such a
rate that the possibility that it will, one day, exceed human intelligence is
becoming more conceivable. The last decades have undoubtedly been the most
prolific in the scientific and technological field. Never in human history has it been
possible for such progress that led to profound changes in our societies. In 2012,
IBM, an American technology company, announced in a report, IBM 5 in 5, that it
would develop cognitive systems that will allow computers and smartphones to
use the five human senses. According to IBM (2012), the sense of touch will be
created by using haptic technology that generates a vibration when the user
touches the screen. As for the sense of sight, currently, computers can see images,
but do not understand them. IBM (2012) predicts an evolution in a near future
where computers will be able to develop this sense. This will benefit several fields
such as the medical and agricultural fields. Olfaction will also benefit these fields.
Hendrik Hamann (2012), a research manager at IBM affirmed that this will be
possible thanks to sensors that can analyze gases and other molecules in the air.
Computers will detect if a user is developing cold or other illness symptoms. They
will also have gustatory perception. The sense of taste will be acquired by using
algorithms to analyze the molecular structure
10. Betty Friedan s The Feminine Mystique
In The Feminine Mystique, Betty Friedan presents several arguments that dealt with
the issues of personal engagement and equality that women of the time faced, calling
it, the problem that has no name. Friedan describes an ideal that middle class women
of the 1960s were held to. She highlights that women were chained to kitchens and
their spouses and children, while their dreams of careers and college degrees were
suppressed. These women had goals and dreams, and they wanted more, but as
Friedan describes, it was nearly impossible to break through the feminine mystique.
Friedan argues that the stereotypes, occupations, and marriages that the women held
caused the feminine mystique, however, she misses important structural issues, such...

These women in offices and labs had to put forth tremendous effort to achieve their
career goals, but were left out of Betty Friedan s arguments, quite possibly so that
competitors could not merely claim that housewives were just lazy and taking the
easy way out. Friedan also leaves out that after World War II, jobs were actually
available to anyone who wanted one, women included. The labor force was no
longer restricted to just men. If a woman wanted a job, she was capable of getting
one. At the time The Feminine Mystique was published, two thirds of the women
in America were actually already part of the working class. What it really came
down to was how badly these middle to upper class women wanted to work outside
of their homes. By cutting out most of the working female population, Friedan
neglected to consider the majority of the women who had been able to find a balance
between work and
11. The Comedy of the American Dream Essays
The Comedy of the American Dream
In the early 1950s, the American dream was the nation s common heartbeat.
Citizens longed for the ?ideal? family; most hid their shortcomings. The nuclear
family included a mother, father, two children and a pet, all residing in suburbia,
USA. Fathers were the breadwinners, and mothers stayed home, cooked, and cared
for the kids. Each family included a boy and a girl, the former who always parted
his hair to the side and the latter who always wore pigtails. The nation was convinced
that if one worked hard enough, he or she could earn enough money to support the
family and have plenty of professional satisfaction. Everyone sat down to dinner
together nightly, and discussed his/her day, and innocence... Show more content on

The main comedy of the picture arises from the innocence of the characters clashing
with the worldly realisms, and the color transformation of Pleasantville parallels the
transition that American humor has taken over the past half century. Despite the
harsh realities of the Depression and World War II that led up to this age, an
innocence was assumed during the 50s; today, no subject is too controversial for
television. In fact, the main facet of American humor today is the shock between the
ideology of the American dream as it supposedly existed earlier this century and the
subsequent recognition of reality.
Historians and academics offer definitions which underlie today?s humor. In 1937,
Walter Blair, whose 60 year study of humor focused on the nineteenth century
development of the genre, stated that American humor was neither produced only in
America nor contained characteristics privy only to Americans. He offered instead
that American humor meant ?humor which is American in that it has an emphatic
?native quality??a quality imparted by its subject matter and its technique? (92). H.
R. Haweis, half a century earlier in 1882, had defined the technique of American
humor as the three shocks of contrast: business and piety, Aboriginal and Yankee, and
the bigness of American nature versus the smallness of

In many occasions, women owned businesses stay at a small scale due to lack of
finance. Unlike some differing opinion, Boston has a lot of resources for women
entrepreneurs. Contrary to popular beliefs, Yooree believes that it is very easy to get
opportunities as a woman. The question of discrimination between men and women,
and people of color in the business field arose. Yooree commented, I have never
been white nor a man, so I would not know about how it feels to be in their
position, but women and men of color tend to be socially conscience, such as the
Black Lives Matter movement, and their businesses have social ambitions. The
challenges do remain to be all the same. She says that she has never faced any
discrimination that she was aware of, but strongly agrees that entrepreneurs were
made to keep going and not dwell on situations as such.
In terms of being a business owner, Yooree believes that the pros of owning one s
own business is that it is very rewarding, one can set their own schedule, the job can
be positively challenging, it is possible to create an unlimited destiny, and it gives
people an opportunity to grow within themselves. The cons, however, are that the
work is never done, and solo entrepreneurship simply means that there are never
enough people to help with the

The Romeo and Juliet film adaptation that I preferred was Baz Luhrmann s 1996
adaptation. The two films, even though they were about the same story of star
cross d lovers, were completely different. The 1996 version made the timeless
classic, Romeo and Juliet, much more modern and relatable. The decision to depict
Romeo and Juliet, in a bustling city was a daring move, but was still able to convey
the theme that Shakespeare had intended nearly 400 years ago. The costumes in the
2013 version were much more realistic with peasants, kings, and townspeople being
dressed, similarly to how they would have been dressed during Shakespeare s times.
On the other hand, the characters in the 1996 version were dressed with t shirts and

Conflict Between Believers
Introduction
There is an obvious difference of opinion between two members of the Saint
Elizabeth Catholic Church as it relates to whether as Christian we should celebrate
Halloween. Couple A argues that is not up to Christianity to dictate what they should
and should not celebrate, and uses Romans 14:5 to support their argument. Romans
14:5 reads, In the same way, some think one day it is more holy than another day,
while others think every day is alike. Each person should have a personal conviction
about this matter (Romans 14:5, New International Version). It is, therefore, their
belief that they are within their rights to celebrate Halloween, as long as a family

A similar conflict between the Gentiles and Jews took place during the early
establishment of the Church. The Jews demanded that the Gentiles adhere to their
laws as established by Moses, wherein they were forbidden from eating certain
foods and required that all males be circumcised. McRay states, During that time
some men came from Jerusalem and tried to lay upon the Gentiles an even more
stringent requirement than the earlier Jerusalem emissaries had done. It was no
longer simply a matter of requiring the Gentiles to observe Jewish food laws in
order to maintain fellowship with Jewish Christians. They were now demanding that
Gentiles males be circumcised in order to be saved (McRay, 2003, p. 127). Similar to
today, these disagreements are presented to the Church Leadership conflict for
resolution. In advising the leadership council of Saint Elizabeth Catholic church on
how to resolve and maintain the fellowship between these believers, I will use
Romans 14 as the fundamental basis for handling conflict resolutions.
Relevant Concepts of Romans 14:1 23
The Apostle Paul in Romans 14:1 23, gives us rules on how to manage a handle the
difference between ourselves. It addresses specifically the conflict that occurred in
those who had converted to Christ were transitioning from a divination system based
on Mosaic laws to another based on Christianity. Because of the religious and cultural

God is not real because all religious experiences can be traced back to brain activity.
What would James (1902) think about that statement? Does he think the possibility
of physiological origin discredits religion? Why or why not? Do you agree or
disagree with James assessment?
Dr. Tsang initiated the conversation on this question by bringing up the idea that
many scientists and skeptics aim to debunk religious insights due to their
psychological or physiological explanation. She recounted the argument that the
Apostle Paul was having an epileptic seizure instead of the revelation of Jesus
appearing and speaking to him in Acts. William James also addressed this in his

This is a precarious topic for our class, as we are scientists studying the psychology of
religion, but many are also people of faith. Several people agreed with James in his
assertion that it is the outcome, not the origin, of the story that matters. He writes
that atheist and scientific thoughts, along with religious thoughts, can be explained
through natural, physical phenomena. I think this logic refutes his own belief in
God, as he is stating that all human thoughts are created by nature through man, but
those premises lead to the conclusion that there is no room for God, or that his
existence is meaningless to us. One can argue that my argument leaves room for
the possibility that God created the universe and all of its rules and then just let it
go, but that does not compare to the religious, personal idea of God that theists
hold. So I do not rule out the question of God entirely. From my point of view, it is
more likely to believe that the idea of God is more like the rules of physics that
govern our entire universe. The question of God is a cyclical argument. We are not
able to dismiss the idea of the Flying Spaghetti Monster without a doubt, just as we
cannot dismiss the theory that we are indeed living
20. Christian And Islamic Conceptions Of Holy War Essay
In 1095, at the Council of Clermont, Pope Urban II preached the first crusade. This
event set in motion a campaign that would dramatically change the face of Western
Europe. The campaign necessitated mass mobilization to the East and the creation of
an ideological counterpart. As a result, Urban II and his successors cast the
expedition as a Holy War by drawing upon already established communal features.
Pre existing traditions that shaped the theological conceptions of Holy War emerged
from diverse sources such as societal trends and the Emperor cults of the Roman
Empire. Despite evidence depicting that established patterns influenced the evolution
of Holy War, popular scholarship has displayed a striking tendency to portray jihad as
endemic to Islam, while the crusades are often depicted as an aberration. Points of
convergence depict the consolidation of these trends. Though the formalization of
these traditions initially divided adherents from the majority of the pagan populace,
the resultant conceptions of Holy War helped to unite people and enabled the
legitimization of authority. Therefore, both Christian and Islamic conceptions of
Holy War can be viewed as the realization of certain pre established trends.
Islam was initially developed in relationship with paganism and this belief system
shaped the evolution of Muslim Holy War. Though part of the Qur an, the text
outlining the fundamental beliefs of Islam, was delivered to Muhammad at Mecca,
he was later
21. American Red Cross Analysis
It s amazing how far United States have come along when it comes to caring for an
individual that you don t know, yet you are doing everything in your power to save
someone s life. American Red Cross was founded by Clara Barton on May 21,
1881, but before the American Red Cross came into America it was and
international movement that was founded by a young Swiss man named Henry
Dunant. To know that 40,000 men are laying dead or alive and wounded from a
war that soldiers fought for us in the civil war, yet there were no medical attempts
to save lives, made Dunant organize local people to help wounded soldiers. The
locals helped with wounded soldiers by feeding, and comforting them when in need.
In October 1868 the International Red Cross Movement was created in Geneva,
Switzerland and their duty was to provide non partisan care to the wounded soldiers
in time of war. (American Red Crosspg. 12, 2011) After the civil... Show more content

their first disaster relief in Michigan by a major forest fire. (Rosenberg, 2014) As

Rene Descartes Meditations is known to be one of his most famous works, it has
also shown to be very important in Philosophical Epistemology. Within the
meditation s he provides many arguments that remove pre existing notions, and
bring it to the root of its foundation which Descartes, then will come up with his
indubitable foundation of knowledge to defeat any doubt and to prove God is real.
Descartes was a foundationalist , by introducing a new way of knowledge and with
clearing up how people thought about things prior. Descartes took knowledge to its
very foundations, and from there he can build up from it. In this essay, I will be
discussing Descartes, and analyzing his first two meditations and arguing that he does
indeed succeed in his argument.
Skepticism is define as an intellectual process of applying reason and critical
thinking to validate a certain point. Skepticism was the very base for Descartes
arguments in the first two meditations. He started by ... Show more content on

The whole point of this method is for Descartes to find at least some truth that is
way beyond any questions of doubt. However, what if people doubt that the two
plus two does not equal to four but in reality of our minds, we all can conclude that
is equals to four. After this point, Descartes introduces the idea of a malicious god
or evil demon who s only goal is to deceive us no matter what, Descartes says, I will
suppose, then, not that there is a supremely good God who is the source of all
truth, but that there is an evil demon, supremely powerful and cunning, who works
as hard as he can to deceive me (Descartes 322.Right Side). Although we all know
that two plus two equals four but what if the evil demon is deceiving us and in
reality, it equals five. These three stages make up Descartes methodic doubt, where
he attempts to remove all previous beliefs in order to find truth that is beyond any

There is no single definition of children s literature. It can be defined broadly as

We were about to form lines facing the front, we saw a B 29 approaching and about

noise came and we were left in the dark... This is how 14 year old Akihiro
Takahashi begins his account of the bombing on Hiroshima. Standing just 1.4km
away from the epicenter, Akihiro couldn t do anything but watch as the United
States dropped the world s first atomic bomb on his hometown. Three days later,
while terror was still raging in Hiroshima, the US dropped a second atomic bomb
on Nagasaki. While it may seem inhumane for the US to have used such powerful
weapons on Japan, the US had many reasons to use such drastic measures. The
United States and Japan s involvement in WW2 led to the eventual use of atomic
weapons causing a series of devastating effects that changed Japan and the world
forever. In the early 1940s, Hitler and the Nazis were trying to take over the world
as they waged war across Europe. While Hitler had the world s attention, a series of
events was unfolding to set the scene for some of the biggest events in History.
Japan had declared war on China in an attempt to increase its territory and it s trade
market. Although the US had stayed neutral for about 2 years, in a response to Japan
s aggressions, the US implemented a series of economic sanctions and trade
embargoes to counter Japan s advances. The reasoning behind this was that without
money, goods, and other essential supplies,

Communism is a Political theory advocating class war and leading to a society
which all property is publicly owned and each person works and paid according to
their abilities After world war 2 communism took over Czechoslovakia and people
flocked to join the party. Not everyone was convinced that the party was what the
country needed for them to gain peace. The party had lots of propaganda and were
in control of peoples live therefore convincing people to join the party even if
reluctant. In Under a Cruel Star, Kovaly recounts her time after the war and joining
the communist party and then being shunned when her husband was convicted of a
crime. She talks about how people put blind faith in a party that didn t have much
scientific evidence to back up their claims. Kovaly said the most people went to the
communist party because when coming back from the concentration camp they
wanted to be in control of property again and they stayed because they felt helpless
without the party providing services. They went from one type of totalitarian
government to another kind of government that controlled everything they did.
People of the time didn t realize that communismdidn t benefit people who weren t in

26. Comparison Of Rudyard Kipling
Rudyard Kipling was born to Alice MacDonald and John Lockwood Kipling on
December 30, 1865 in Bombay, India. Most of his education took place in England
where his parents were from. Before getting into writing his own literature, Kipling
was a sub editor at the CMG, The Civl and Military Gazette. He worked for several
years before beginning to write. Farther into his career as a writer and poet,
Kipling wrote the poem The White Man s Burden. In this poem, he attempts to
teach readers that you should not do what is right only for praise and glory, but
instead because it is the right thing to do. Kipling also criticizes the U.S.
government for being too timid to go to war. In the song DNA. by Kendrick Lamar,
parts of the song criticize others for not taking chances and for being too scared. Both
Rudyard Kiplings The White Man s Burden and Kendrick Lamar s DNA. criticize
others for excessive timidness and their failure to take chances. In The White Man s
Burden, RudyardKipling attempts to teach readers the importance of doing what is
right even when there is lots of hate and no praise. In lines 19 and 20, Kipling
mentions that when countries go to war for the good of their people, they still
receive lots of hate. The blame of those ye better/ The hate of those ye guard
(Kipling 19,20). This is saying that governments are often loathed by countries
whom they have bested in battle and also receive hate from the very people they
were trying to help. Along with this message, Kipling also attempts to criticize
governments for being too timid and fearful of war. In line 26, Kipling writes a
line that is a little humorous but also very deep. Have done with the childish days
(Kipling 26). Here, Kipling says the way the government is so fearful and timid is
a childlike quality. He believes that they need to be much stronger and brave if
they want to stay in power. Kendrick Lamar attempts to produce a similar message
to listeners in his hit song, DNA. Both Rudyard Kipling in The White Man s
Burden, and Kendrick Lamar in DNA. criticize a similar issue in society. In D.N.A,
Kendrick Lamar hopes to motivate others to take more risks and get over any fears
they may have. Through this song, Lamar
27. The Gettysburg Address By Johnathon Hennessey
Four Score and Seven Years Ago is one of the most famously well known statements
in American History. This was the opening line to The Gettysburg Address given by
Abraham Lincoln on November 9th in 1863. This speech was given during the Civil
War, with the Unionists on one side and the Secessionists on the other. America was
one of the very few countries in which slavery was still legal. The Unionists (northern
states), were supporters of the United Statesfederal government and wanted to abolish
slavery. The Secessionists (southern states), rejected the federal government by
claiming separation from the union and wanted slavery to remain legal. Slavery was
an enormous issue during this time period, so prominent that it notably divided the
once united country into two. The Gettysburg Addressby Johnathon Hennessey uses
Lincoln s words to tell the story of the Civil War, starting at 1776 and stretching into
present day through the use of cartoons.
This book is based on Abraham Lincoln s speech The Gettysburg Address.
Hennessey has broken the book into separate chapters named after passages in
Lincoln s speech. These chapters then indulge into historical cartoons by sharing a
rich background of the topic. He covers the meaning of the speech, of course, but he
also dives into great detail of historical events, a couple examples being when
America was founded, the Revolution and the motivations of the Civil War. Although
this book does cover the analysis of the speech, it does

its creator Dr. John Pemberton. For 129 years, Coca Cola has flourished into a
success in the business world. It is the largest beverage company, today, sold in
over 200 countries today. There are several reasons for Coca Cola s success in the
business world.
Rather than only working in the here and now, the company of Coca Cola envisions

and consumers. The company emphasizes friendliness with one of its main objective,

Thanks to Coca Cola s president, Robert Woodruff in the 1920s, the way the iconic
drink would be served changed drastically: originally only served from a soda
fountain, the soft drink is now conveniently purchased in a bottle. The
transformation of the bottle s shape and material is the result of technological
advances and the result of adapting to convenience and consumer interests.
Advertisements in the form of calendars, television commercials, posters, and
jingles are examples of great public relations. In need of an increase in product
demand during the winter of the 1920s, the company created the iconic photo of
Santa Claus and the polar bear; like a jingle, when one sees these advertisements,
he or she will immediately associate it with Coca Cola beverages. Sponsorships are
another large public relations program. For 87 years, Coca Cola has been a large
sponsor for the Olympics as well as many sporting events such as NASCAR, FIFA,
NBA, among others. Environmental protection is another factor for the company s
success. Initiative towards saving our environment is appealing to a large population
of the world, which is why Coca Cola has taken action in sustainability. By focusing
on conserving water, using energy efficient technology, helping and working
alongside farmers, as well as recycling and recovering recyclable materials, Coca
Cola can better serve their consumers by bettering their
29. The Problem Of Immigration And Immigration
This paper will examine the problem of Immigration and Immigration Law. I will
first discuss what Immigration Law is and how it works, then I will define the
number one problem of immigration laws, illegal immigration and why it s so
important to follow procedures. It will also address the consequences after violating
the laws. Next the paper discusses three policy solutions to the problems of illegal
immigration: Legalization of Immigrants, Strengthen Border Security, and
Immigration Amnesty. The paper will first explain each policy solution. Then it will
analyze the pros and cons, and potential strengths and weakness of each solution. Last
this paper will offer some personal observations on the problem of immigration.
Three government policy solutions to the problem of illegal immigration include the
Legalization of Illegal Immigrants, the Secure Fence Act of 2006, and Amnesty. If
these three government policies were truly implemented it will help to solve and cut
back in illegal immigration activity in the United States.
Section II
Immigration law refers to the rules established by the federal government for
determining who is allowed to enter the country, and for how long. It also governs the
naturalization process for those who desire to become United States citizens. Finally,
when foreign nationals enter without permission, overstay their visit, or otherwise
lose their legal status, they become illegal immigrants, immigration law controls how

30. Reflection About Anxiety
Anxiety is the dizziness of freedom. What can be at first a seemingly random chain
of auditory reverberations has had the most profound effect on who I am. To hear
the frequency and timbre of this string of vibrations hit my cochlea, or to play it in
my mind using my auditory loop, elicits the exact same autonomic arousal that hit
me the first time I grasp its meaning. This quote has been with me everywhere. The
first moment I gave speech to a crowd for over a hundred (Osher Foundation
scholarship), the words were dancing in the back of my mind. The first time I met
my principle investigator and mentor Karen Dobkins, the quote was on the tip of
my tongue. Even, the exact moment my eyes met my future wife for the first time
I whispered it under my breath. To feel the effects of the sympathetic nervous
system, the biting cold of a cortisol rush, is to know the cursed taste of freedom of
being human. Anxiety simply means that you are alive. I recall the first time I had
heard the words. It was a cold Californian evening in October. I was sitting up the
bench, alone, overlooking the idyllic suburban highways. Soren Kierkegaard s The
Concept of anxiety has and always will be my favorite book. I suffer from
depression and anxiety. Although never fully diagnosed, I did take prescription
medicine for a while. Somehow, I convinced myself that my elevated levels of
anxiety was a hinderance. I had always been a gifted student, being placed in

31. What Is The Theme Of The Poem Design By Robert Frost
In his poem Design, Robert Frost constructs a compelling relationship between the
natural and supernatural worlds, proposing that creation is governed by the design of
darkness ( Design 13) and was constructed with intention by a divine, omnipotent
hand. He seems to posit that this premeditated design is the only plausible
explanation for the violent, survivalist motivations directing the actions of what he
considers to be inherently innocent beings (in this case, the predatory spider and the
moth on which it preys). To illustrate this belief, the poet introduces and develops a
trilogy of distinct, yet interrelated, dichotomies throughout the poem: that between
light and dark, innocence and evil, and life and death. Frost achieves this... Show

Indeed, his sonnet is guided by one overarching question: What force personal or
divine governs the laws of nature? Frost seems to argue that the violent, predatory,
and survivalist actions that these inherently innocent creatures adopt are premeditated
and irrelevant to the nature of the animals; they are the product of intentional design,
willed into existence by a divine and omnipotent higher power. However, the initial
draft of the poem, entitled In White, failed to provide a confident answer to this
problem. Frost could not determine, at that point, whether the spider s actions
reflected an inner evil, or if its actions were truly determined by supernatural forces.
In the end, Frost s revisions to both the poem s verse form and diction reveal his
final conclusions: that nature is not evil but rather directed by this higher power, this
design of darkness that unconsciously drives otherwise innocent creatures to
savagery as a means for survival ( Design 13). By the poem s conclusion, it becomes
evident that Frost is satisfied with his conclusions (though he can never empirically
prove their validity), and that he confidently believes, at long last, that he has [used]

32. The Siege of Port Arthur
Once the city of Port Arthur was under siege at the hands of Togo s navy, and the
First army was able to successfully land in Chemulpo, the Japanese set out to launch
the second half of its joint campaign. The objective was to stage a limited war in an
effort to further contain the Russian troops in the region and exhaust any possibility
they had of rebuilding their resources to counter Japanese attack. Japan was smart,
they knew they could not sustain fighting and continue to pull out victories if Russia
was able to replenish and rebuild. If the Russians were afforded the time they needed,
the war may have taken a different turn for the Japanese.
The first successful land attack began with the battle at Yalu river. The river was
not far from Port Arthur, and its significance was also that it represented the border
between Korea and China. The goal of the Russians was in contrast, as General
Kuropatkin, Far East Army Russian Commander, was interested only in holding
the line long enough to receive reinforcements by way of the Trans Siberian
railway. In other words, the Russian army was on the defensive. He knew the
process of replenishment would be a lengthy one, and the Japanese, under the
leadership of General Kuroki, did as well. Japan was aware that victory would need
to be swift to maintain their strategy of driving the offensive and keeping the
Russians on their heels (Warner, pp. 252 268). Kuropatkin had long been vocal about
the dangers of expansion and

Don t judge a book by its cover is one of the greatest known metaphorical phrases in
human history. People constantly identify with and attempt to apply the concept in
everyday life; yet our society has constructed a paradigm in which the perfection of
your skin predetermines your social interactions in life. Likewise it is important to
comprehend that it is not only on the side of society s judgements which
determines your interactions, but it is also that of the lowered self esteem of the
individual. To garner apposite knowledge, the task at hand required the
interviewing of a person with a skin condition with the aim to internalise and
reflect upon the biopsychosocial as well as cultural impacts of the illness. I was
lucky enough to have the privilege of interviewing Jane Doe, a 20 year old white

35. Racism In Master Harold, By Athol Fugard
Racism, the idea of one s race being superior than others is not an idea we are born
with. It is an idea that is taught by the ones closest to us or simply adapted to due
to our very own surroundings. In the play, Master Harold and the boys, by Athol
Fugard, the underlying message of discrimination and ignorance is incredibly
evident. The play takes place in South Africa in the 1950s during apartheid. It was
a time of racial inequality and segregation. The play is a miniature representation
of the circumstances happening in South Africa a parallel time. The very same
circumstances that surround young Hally, a white boy, are the very same that
compete with his future. Sam, a black servant, has always been present in Hally s
life. Although many obstacles have tried to corrupt Hally, Sam has always been
there to show him a different side. Hally is optimistic about change but
unknowingly seems to block it. Throughout the play Master Harold and the boys,
Fugard transforms objects such as a kite and a bench into symbols that project a
hidden meaning behind them. For example, the kite in the story takes Hally back to
his childhood. As a child, Hally had a root sense of defeat, dissatisfaction, and shame
growing up alongside a drunk racist father. Although, much of what Hally remembers
isn t pleasant, there was a moment that stuck with him; flying a kite. It was made up
of scraps and trash that Sam made for him, he was shocked that a black man could
build such a thing. Both

37. The Protestant Reformation s Influence On The Religious

Wittenberg. A priest walks with papers in hand to the church and, stepping up to the
wooden door, nails the papers to the front of the church, posted for the town to see.
Martin Luther, not knowing what he had just started, walked away from the church
beginning what has come to be known as the Protestant Reformation. This
Reformation is often viewed as a religious movement that eventually came to affect
the political and social spheres as well; Martin Lutheralong with other Protestants had

eventually cause political upheaval and started a chain reaction of the questioning of
authority. While the beliefs of the Reformers obviously influenced the religious and
political world society was not left alone. Particularly marriage, being tied with
religious faith, was viewed differently among Protestants, Luther advocated the

Chrysler taking the biggest hits while Ford only suffered decline comparable to

What are these values? They are specifically five principles: human dignity, common
good, subsidiarity, solidarity, and universal destination of goods as well as eight
values: love, prayer, stability, conversation, obedience, discipline, humility,
stewardship, hospitality, and community. They define the core of the Christian faith s
ethical code. The United States government was founded on Christian principles that
are at the heart of how it operates as an entity in the world. Therefore, it should
hopefully stay within the Christian ethical code. The other major player in this
situation, the union, was founded on similar beliefs as these, so it should also stay
within the Christian ethical code. However, in this situation we will learn that the
United States government and the union both break this ethical code. First, the
United States walks a line for their position in society. Many people turn to the
government as the place to fix the problem. Unfortunately, the government should not
always use its power and ability especially with the power of money, laws, and

the values of community, stability, and common good. However, I do not believe that
they were acting in the term specifically for the automaker

movies, famous figures, and literature that would forever shape America.
Changes in music were inspired by social and political issues at the time. It was
most definitely a politically charged decade:cold war, unemployment, poverty in
homes. Many artists used music as a form of escapism and or to get a point across. In

Famous movies for kids were GI JOE, Smurfs, and Alvin and the Chipmunks.
These films brought in a large amount of revenue that companies decided to make
action figures of their characters. Many family sitcoms were made especially for
the families such as, Growing Pains, Alf, The Cosby Show and many more.
Hollywood had plenty of money from 1980s movies, but they wanted to convert
americans money into cold, hard cash. The most famous 80s classic movies were
The Little Mermaid and The Color Purple. Writers and producers new just how to
make something from scratch and turn it into a masterpiece for everyone to enjoy and
love.
Famous political and social figures were very important in their 80s because they
sculpted the culture in today s era. Sticking through scandal and triumph, tragedy
and joy, we re left with a decade full of memorable figures, some of which have
broken through the millennium barrier and are still with us today. (Pia Sooney)
Movie star icon, Tom Cruise won many awards, starred in many movies and
influenced society with his hollywood face. The political figures were Jimmy Carter,
George Bush, and Ronald Reagan. Each of these presidents helped the crisis that

42. Frantz Fanon The Fact Of Blackness
Fanon s argument regarding The Fact of Blackness and his conceptual use of
violence as an affect of bodily violence. 1.Introduction In this essay, I will be
analysing Frantz Fanon s writing entitled The Fact of Blackness, Analysing the
social psychological concept of self identity in connection to the fact of being a
black person. Frantz Fanon According to McCulloch (1983), was born in 1925 at
Martinique. He advanced as a medical student in Paris where he was a psychiatrist.
He was trained in one of the most radical psychiatric teaching programmes then
available (McCulloch, 1983, p. 1). Fanon wrote the book Black Skin, White Mask
in 1952 when he was in Lyon University, according to Panaf (1975). In the fifth
chapter of his book Fanon wrote an essay entitled The Fact of Blackness which
was in a form of a cry of a black man. The writing was released at a time when
decolonisation and self determination were intensifying and taking the centre stage.

Fanon finds himself suffering from schizophrenia and many disorders as a result
of the white man s harsh treatment. When all he wanted was to be himself. To a
white man from France, Fanon was a Martinican, a native of our old colonies
(Fanon, 1986, p.113), which was a perception which deprived the black man of self
pride or confidence in himself. Mama, the nigger is going to eat me up (Fanon,
1986, p.114), to the white boy he is an animal that s shaking with anger ready to
swallow him up, just like a cannibal would eat up a prey. Fanon s search for self
identity is destined to only one direction as he is not given a chance to exist Since the
other hesitated to recognize me, there remained only one solution: to make myself
known (Fanon, 1986,
43. Perseverance In The Alchemist
One is to typically ask themselves what they want in life. But does that one thing
you want coincide with your personal legend? The novel that is being referred to in
this essay is called The Alchemist, written by Paulo Coelho. The two topics that
will be used is one s personal legend and perseverance. Despite all the obstacles
given to face...one can only achieve their personal legend with a great amount of
perseverance because once their personal legend is achieved they receive a
rewarding satisfaction of what they were born into this world to do. Everyone in
this world a given a different personal legend. When a person really desires
something, all the universe conspires to help that person to realize his dream.

44. The Effects Of Living With Landmines For The Wellbeing
Of...
Introduction
This paper will analyse Davies (2015) Ph.D. thesis Living with landmines . In this
research, Davies attempts to answer the question: What are the implications of living
with landmines for the wellbeing of local people? (Davies, 2015:15). This essay will
therefore look into the efficiency and accuracy of the methodology by which Davies
attempts to answer this question. To do this, the methodology will be firstly put in
context to have a broad understanding of the research field. This paper will then
assess the study s mains weaknesses and strengths through the RATS (Relevance,
Appropriateness, Transparency, Soundness) qualitative researchevaluation (Clark,
2003). Finally, a series of adjustments will be suggested to counteract the
methodology s potential flaws.
Davies introduces her methodology outline as a complex study which draws on
several different qualitative methods. This enables her to explore separate
dimensions in which landmines can affect people s living conditions; adapting
different data collection methods depending on context, believing flexibility to be
crucial for the success of the study. For this reason, Davies considers herself a
bricolage researcher, using a variety of qualitative research methods to piece together
a holistic picture (Davies, 2015:113). This approach allowed her to gain an insight
into the complex reality of living with landmines. The study itself consists of a
qualitative research project divided into three
45. Omelas Rule Utilitarianism
With regards to the Omelas article, rule utilitarianism would create a rule that could
say that torture is wrong under all circumstances. This would give value to the
child s life and the child s suffering. It would promote that we not allow the child to
live in squalor so that the child would be free to live in a horrible society filled
with corruption and evil. The story says that if the child were to go free all the
prosperity and beauty of Omelas would wither and be destroyed (Le Guin 234). Rule
utilitarianismwould stand that this be an acceptable outcome for Omelas, simply
because it would no longer be inflicting the sufferingupon this one person. The level
of destruction Omelas would face is seemingly insignificant to rule... Show more

This makes rule utilitarianism improbable since anyone using utilitarianism will not
be omniscient to determine every outcome of an action and understand the impact of
all those impacted.
Rule utilitarianism creates rules that would lead to the general overall happiness of
individuals involved and an act is said to be moral when it conforms to those rule.
This would mean that an act can be moral in accordance with rule utilitarianism even
if the action does not bring about overall happiness, but just because it conformed to a
rule that, if the circumstances were different, would have brought about overall
happiness.
No form of Utilitarianism addresses the concerns raised about the intrinsic value and
human life, it is a simple, easily exploited mask of morality. While the claims are to
maximize happiness, with the reasons being that it wants to increase the aggregate
happiness in general, the theory promotes with the inverse to eliminate as much
unhappiness as possible. Rather than maximizing the good for all involved, one
could easily just attempt to a limit the amount of people affected by whatever deed
is done, especially if the deed would be considered bad if people knew about it. By
keeping the action to a select

These processes are focused on achieving quality policy and objectives.
Another performance objective of a company is Speed.
It is the ability of a company of being fast and quick in deliveries. It s the time that
goes from customer asking for a product or service to the receipt of it.
One the main features of H M is the rapidity of shifts in demand and respond to
customers needs. In fact when necessities of customers change, in only three weeks
H M can create new items. A normal clothes company needs six months to create
new collections or articles. That s why H M does many researches all the time to
find out new tendencies or variations of styles, giving shoppers last tendencies
clothes.
Speed is important. You need to have a system where you can react in a short lead
time with the right products. Says Chief Executive Rolf Eriksen.
They re very fast at spotting the trend and getting it out to the masses at a very low
price.
All the time many designers start sketching new styles and as quickly as sketches
came off their desks, they are prototyped and tested. At the same time buyers ordered
47. Case Study Of Roxanne Quimby
1.
Roxanne Quimby is an ambitious entrepreneur. She had her own business called
Burt s Bees... Roxanne had all the common background characteristics of
entrepreneurs. Roxanne had a big personal drive and commitment which has a huge
emphasis in assisting them to overcome obstacles and difficulties they face in
establishing and getting a successful business. She had to get willingness to exploit
a challenge, to persevere, to work hard, to be flexible and to delegate to others when
she had to
These characteristics were displayed when she had some doubts about her move
from Maine to North Carolina. As she sat in her office she felt miserable and
anxious and was asking herself was the move the right choice. She thought all she
had to do was move ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Roxanne had a difficult childhood, her father a failed entrepreneur disowned her
when he found out she was living with her boyfriend and stopped all financial and
familial ties, but he did give her one gift and early entrepreneurial education. He
did tell her he wouldn t give her any money for college but would match every
dollar she earned. She worked hard, travelled from fair to fair slept in the back of
the truck and it paid off Burt s Bees was a huge success. She never took on debt
because she never wanted to feel that she couldn t walk away from it. I think the
time is right for her to sell. She didn t want to be in Burt s Bees forever and she
knew at some point the business isn t going to need her anymore. There are other
things she wants to do. She always wanted to live in India work on product design
and if she sold Burt s Bees she could make this happen. I think she should listen to
her instinct as she said herself it hasn t failed her to date. She needs to follow her
dream and move on. She has to think creatively brush of her shoulders and move on.
In fact, failure has been shown to be a better teacher than success, Roxanne has
curiosity, confidence and determination, Roxanne and Burt couldn t remain the sole
owners of the company if they wanted it to grow... I think she would grow from
strength to strength if she sold the company and start fresh in her dream country
48. Mayo Clinic Mission Statement
To inspire hope and contribute to health and well being by providing the best care to
every patient through integrated clinical practice, education, and research. This is
The Mayo Clinic s Mission statement, but Mayo is so much more.
Mayo Clinic, a quick history: 1840 80 William Worrell Mayo emigrates from
England to southern Minnesota eventually becoming a family doctor. Two of his
five children follow in his footsteps and also become doctors, pioneering the concept
of a medical team working together, now known as a group practice. This style of
medicine is still practiced at Mayo today. 1883 Sisters of St. Francis collaborate with
Wm. Mayo and several other doctors including Dr. Henry Plummer to create Saint
Mary s Hospital. Dr. Plummer was the driving force for innovation at The Clinic
until his death in 1936. 1890 Doctors from around the world begin to travel to
Rochester to learn the innovative approaches to medical practice and surgery being
developed by William s sons William and Charles Mayo. In 1919, the Mayo brothers
and their wives established Mayo Clinic as a not for profit organization. 1950 Edward

an integrated mindset throughout the enterprise not just when it comes to the care of
their patients. This was started with William Mayo in the beginning when the Sisters
of St. Francis came to him asking him to build a hospital. This is carried on today by
all departments being represented when a project involves them or is an overreaching
