Theatre Essays
Crafting an essay on the subject of "Theatre Essays" presents a unique set of challenges that
requires a delicate balance of creativity, critical analysis, and a deep understanding of the
intricacies of theatrical arts. The task involves delving into the rich history of theater, exploring
the evolution of various theatrical forms, and examining the impact of theater on society and
culture. Furthermore, one must navigate the complexities of dramatic elements, such as plot,
character development, setting, and themes, while also considering the broader context in which
the plays are situated.
The challenge lies in not just summarizing plays and theatrical movements but also in providing
insightful interpretations and analyses that contribute to the reader's understanding of the art
form. This necessitates a comprehensive knowledge of dramatic theory, theatrical techniques,
and the ability to contextualize the significance of different plays and performances in the
broader spectrum of human expression.
Moreover, addressing the dynamic nature of theater requires staying abreast of contemporary
developments, emerging playwrights, and evolving trends. This demands ongoing research and
engagement with the latest theatrical productions, ensuring that the essay is relevant and
reflective of the current state of the art.
The intricacies of crafting a compelling essay on theater extend beyond mere literary analysis; it
involves capturing the essence of live performances, understanding the synergy between actors,
directors, and the audience, and appreciating the ephemeral nature of the theatrical experience.
Describing the visual and emotional impact of a performance adds an additional layer of
complexity to the writing process.

endeavor. It demands a profound understanding of the historical, theoretical, and practical
aspects of theater, coupled with the ability to articulate these insights in a coherent and engaging
manner. The writer must skillfully navigate the complexities of the art form, offering a nuanced
perspective that transcends mere academic analysis. It is an undertaking that requires passion,

The Naked Citadel Summary
Altering Women The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be
denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex (US
Constitution 19th Amendment). These were the few words that thousands of women
fought for. From the beginning of mankind women have been treated unequally from
men. Women have had to fight to win the same rights as the men who were born
with them. As women progressed gaining equal rights as men, society also became
more advanced changing its guidelines of how women should act. Leslie Bell in her
story, Selections from Hard to Get: Twenty Something Women and the Paradox of
Sexual Freedom, discusses how women nowadays have to adhere and alter their
personalities to meet society s new norms. Often women who try to change
themselves experience splitting . Bell gives examples of women, her patients, who
have dealt with splitting and talks about how they changed themselves to fit into
society. Some ideas from Bell s story can be related to Susan Faludis story, The
Naked Citadel. The Citadel is an all boys military school, but this all changes when
Shannon Faulkner, a girl, is allowed to attend it. Since no other girl has attended The
Citadel, Shannon does not know how to adjust and act in the new atmosphere.
Women, like Bell s patients and Shannon, have tried to changed themselves to fit into
the new society. These women did not want to be outcasts, so they had to adjust to
the new world. Men have had it easier

How Does Tangylor Present Joey In Tangerine
The realistic fiction, Tangerine written by Edward Bloor is about a family
uncovering secrets in the first person point of view of, the main character, Paul

important because the character with the worst vision is the one who could see the

Emmy Noether Research Paper
I choose my essay to be about Emmy Noether. Emmy Noether is a very important
and influential mathematician. As, a mathematician Emmy Noether innovated
contributions to abstract algebra and theoretical physics. Some people such as
Pavel Alexandrov, Albert Einstein, Jean DieudonnГ©, Hermann Weyl, and
Norbert Wiener had highly valued her. Many people to this day describe her as the
most important woman in mathematics . There are many fun and interesting facts
about Emmy Noether. Emmy Noether was born on March 23, 1882. She was born
in Erlangen, Germany. And she died on April 14, 1935. Emmy Noether died in
Lower Merion Township, PA. One award that she won was the Ackermann Teubner
Memorial Award. Emmy Noether got her education from University of Erlangen
Nuremberg in 1904 1907. She also studied in University of Göttingen in 1903
1904. Emmy Noether s siblings includes Fritz Noether, Alfred Noether, and Gustav
Robert Noether. Fritz noether was a German born mathematician just like Emmy
Noether. Alfred Noether was born on 1883 and he died in 1918. Gustav Robert
Noether was born on 1889 and he died on 1928. Emmy Noether s parents are Max

Introduction
Clostridium difficile (C. diff) is a type of bacterium that can cause a person to
endure diarrhea like symptoms to more drastic symptoms that may involve
inflammation of the colon. Most people who come across C. diff are expected to
be in a hospital setting for an extensive period of time. It is more accessible to
acquire C. diff when a person is of old age, in a hospital setting, and taking antibiotic
medication (Mayo Clinic, 2016). Normally, one would think that taking antibiotics
would not cause any harm to the body, but would instead help the body fight off
diseases. However, once a person who has been taking antibiotics for a long period of
time stops taking them, such as in a nursing home or hospital setting, that person can
develop some reactions in the absence of those antibiotics (Bartlett, 2012). This
reaction, then allows the person to experience diarrhea symptoms, which lead to
inflammation of the colon and more drastic colon problems.
This paper will mainly explain what Clostridium difficile is, its causal agent,
epidemiology, ways of transmission, some clinical features, diagnoses and how to test
for the bacterium, treatment, prognosis, and preventative measures. There are
treatments available for this
Science, Religion, Politics And The Arts Of Modern Europe
Science, Religion, Politics and the Arts of Modern Europe In early modern European
society, many factors induced the rise of the middle class. Aside from the trade
markets and early industrialism, quickly changing thoughts regarding science, God,
man and the cosmos propelled political philosophies into uncharted territories.
Modern thinking led to the philosophical writings which helped usher in the
acceptance of these thoughts to much of society. Science and religion were the
hinges to the new political environment; all of these changes in society greatly
affected the many works of painters, sculptors, novelists, poets, musicians, film
makers and architects. This period was one of great instability and monumental
changes within attitudes of politics and the common man s role in the universe. The
rise of the middle class started from capitalism beginnings during the exploration
and trade start up throughout Europe. Merchants steadily increased income,
providing for more power in communities. This moved much of what was known as
the peasant class to a middle class. The industrial revolution also contributed to the
middle class surge in Europe. The growth of businesses and of government activities
increased the need for professional people, and relevant educational opportunities
expanded sometimes faster still (Stearns, 116). In some of Europe, the middle class
were known as the bourgeois. These were the leaders of companies, as well as some
of the workforce within the
Advantages And Disadvantages Of Parkesine
Introduction:
In our everyday life, plastic has become king. It has been omnipresent for so long,
we no longer notice its presence in our lives.
Plastics are present in everything, from packaging to electronics to toys to tools...etc.
This raises the question of when it was that plastic was first integrated into our lives.
To discuss this, we must turn to the first kind of plastic that was man made:
Parkesine. In 1862, a British inventor by the name of Alexander Parkes introduced
the first man made plastic, Parkesine. Parkesine was a big hit, as seen by the fact that
it was used to make combs, printers molds, buttons, combs, and cutlery handles.
However, Parkes wasn t the best businessmen, as he ended up bankrupt. That s when

The types of plastics whose biodegradability has been studied are numerous, this
paper will only cover biodegradation of polyhydroxybutyrate and polyurethane,
however it will also touch base on possible methods of biodegrading thermoplastics.
*Biodegradation is a term meaning breakdown of organic substances by
microorganisms.
Discussion:
First, we must ask ourselves what, in essence, is plastic?
Plastic, coming from the Greek word plastikos means able to be molded into
different shapes is a term given to a wide variety of synthetic polymers possessing a
large molecular weight. These polymers are made from raw materials such as carbon,
silicon, nitrogen....etc.
To understand how to break plastics down, first we must understand how they re
manufactured.
Plastics fall into two main categories:
Natural Plastics:
Natural plastics, also known as bioplastics are polymers that are obtained from the
growth of microorganisms or from plants that are genetically modified to produce
said polymers. They are usually biodegradable and obtained from renewable sources.
Examples: Polyhydroxybutyrate and Poly(Lactic Acid) (PLA)

On Earthquakes Essay
On Earthquakes
An earthquake is a shaking or trembling of the crust of the earth caused by
underground volcanic action or by the breaking and shifting of rock beneath the
surface. The volcanic action and shifting rocks create strain which continues to
build to a sudden release of pressure resulting in a shock wave. The vibrations
produced in the crust can vary from barely noticeable to enormously destructive.
Shock waves can be classified into two broad categories. Waves that send particles
oscillating back and forth in the same direction as the waves are traveling are called
primary. Primary waves, sometimes called compressional waves, travel through the
earth beneath the crust. Secondary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The modern seismograph was invented early this century by a Russian seismologist,
Prince Boris Golitzyn. This device made possible the modern era of earthquake
research.
Although earthquakes have occurred and affected mankind for as long as humans
have been around, historical records are either lacking or considered unreliable
before the middle of the 18th century. However, some records do exist and date
major earthquake events back to 425 BC when one occurred off the coast of Greece
resulting in an island named Euboea. Another occurred in Asia Minor about AD 17
and another leveled much of the Roman city of Pompeii in AD 63. During the
Middle Ages, severe earthquakes struck England, in 1318; Naples, Italy, in 1456; and
Lisbon, Portugal, in 1531.
Casualties from major earthquakes have resulted in the greatest disasters in history.
The worst occurred in 1556 in the Shannxi (Shensi) Province in China and killed
an estimated 800,000 people. During the 18th century, the Japanese city of Edo
(site of modern day Tokyo) was struck and killed 200,000. Earthquakes in Sicily in
1693 and Lisbon in 1755 each killed about 60,000 people. In 1797, approximately
40,000 died when Quito, Ecuador was struck.
Historically, the most powerful earthquakes to strike North America occurred in 1811
and 1812 in southeastern Missouri. However, the most famous earthquake to strike in

Seamus Heaney s Blackberry Picking
Most people want to live a happy life. As people grow up not everyone gets to live
this happy life they dreamed of. Seamus Heaney writes about youthful times of joy
and despair in his poem Blackberry Picking. The author s use of intense diction,
deep symbolism, and vivid imagery expresses the speaker s previous view of
optimism and avarice as a youth. Using word choice the author shows how life as a
youth varies then that of an adult. In the first line of the poem this can be found. If it
is raining heavily then it would most likely be cloud. However, the speaker also takes
about the sun. This paints the image of two things that exist purely in contrast. This
sets of the rest of the poem by introducing contrast that is used throughout. Next
Heaney uses and iambic pentameter through most of the poem. This gives it the feel

The speaker had a jubilee picking the berries. Picking berries was not just an
everyday task; it required every container available and hiking across numerous
fields, but the speaker had no problem with this showing this was a merry time.
Heaney uses further symbolism with the line. This is the longest line is the poem,
giving it much importance. The boots of the speaker were cleaned, but delving
deeper the heart and enthusiasm was washed clean and born again by the process
of the picking. This makes blackberry picking appear to be a good thing, but the
author starts to reveal that darker side of this summer task. The setting of this poem
is in late August which is also the end of the summer. By using summer with positive
connotation in the lines before and after but then having it be almost over Heaney
sets up even more contrast of being youthful and joyful, and of adulthood and
lessened buoyancy. The attitude continues to grow pessimistic with. This line leads
into the second stanza with an allusion to a man who killed most of his wives and
bathed in their
The Modern Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Essay
Introduction
The modern Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was established by the King Abdulaziz bin
Abdelrahman Al Saud in 1932 (Al Turaiqi, 2008; Albassam, 2011; BTI, 2012;
Hamzawy, 2006; Peterson, 1984; UN, 2004). Saudi is a big country with 13
provinces (mintaqah) and 1,600, 000 km2 (Albassam, 2011; UN, 2004). Saudi has
the largest reserves of oil in the world (UN, 2004). The political system in Saudi is
Monarchy since the day of Unification of the Kingdom (23 September, 1932) (Al

Moreover, Saudi legal system is mainly based on Quran and Sunnah, however daily
life administration matters are managed by promulgate regulations (Matthes, et al.,
2007; UN, 2004). The full draft of all administrative regulations (called Nizam) was
compiled first during the days of King Fahd in 1992 (Al Turaiqi, 2008; Albassam,
2011; UN, 2004). King Fahd with those regulations started to establish a state with
written and clear laws that are necessary to build a modern country. Political System
of Saudi Arabia consists of judicial authority, executive authority and
Organizational authority (Hamzawy, 2006; Matthes, et al., 2007). Traditionally,
the king has the executive and legislative authorities; this means that the king has
judicial power in the land (Al Turaiqi, 2008; Albassam, 2011; Matthes, et al., 2007).
The king s power is controlled by Islamic law, seeking consensus among royal
family members, religious leaders, and the leaders of important tribal families (Al
Turaiqi, 2008; Matthes, et al., 2007; Peterson, 1984; UN, 2004). However Saudi
since 1990s started to add some modern touches to its political system to get along
with the economic and social changes in the kingdom (Albassam, 2011; Peterson,
1984). The major components of Saudi political are listed in the study of (Peterson,
1984) as follows:
Tribalism: Saudi society has deep tribal roots, actually the royal family
Patriotism In The Film Mr. Smith Goes To Washington
In the current political climate, anything said against the government is deemed
unpatriotic by certain areas of the culture. Patriotism is bandied about as a
necessity by some, and derided completely by others. But what is true patriotism,
and how necessary is it? The film Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, made in 1939,
was originally condemned for being unpatriotic as it showed the ugly side of
American democratic politics at a time where democracies were falling all over
Europe. However, the film presents a different view of patriotismthat supports the
most important part of democracy; the people. Mr. Smith Goes to Washington clearly
demonstrates the failures and problems in American democracy, but paints
protagonist Jefferson Smith as extremely patriotic, illustrating that patriotism is not a
blind stubborn belief that a country is right all of the time, but a wholehearted
passion for making said country a better place. This view of patriotism may have
seemed critical in 1939, but the movie effectively shows how the citizens really are
the most important part of a democracy, and how they can rail against political
corruptionto truly create a better country. When protagonist Jefferson Smith very
suddenly becomes a US Senator, he is portrayed as the perfect example of nominal
patriotism. He has several speeches by Washington and Lincoln memorized, is the
leader of a group of what are basically Boy Scouts, and spends his first day in
Washington DC in awe of the monuments.
Portugal And Brazil Essay
Both Brazil and Portugal share an intense bond with Africa. Portugal held African
colonies since the era of overseas exploration. The first violent occupation from the
Portuguese took place in Ceuta in 1415, in the north of the African continent,
however, the real discovery of the continent took place little over the 15th century,
expanding also to the Latin America (Brazil) and Asia (China and India). In the 17th
century, the British, French and Deutsch expelled the Portuguese from the best
coastal areas in order to pursue the slave trade. Portugaland Spain kept some of the
old colonies like Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea Bissau, Mozambique, and SГЈo

With the end of the war and the independence of these countries in 1975, the white
Portuguese colonizers, who had built their life in African territory, had to return.
This exodus was called The Returned although, this word was received with
discontent, being a taboo to this day. Some of the people returning from the
African colonies, had not been in Portugal for many years or were second, third
generation, so the term Returned is not as well accepted for those who had never
stepped foot in Portuguese soil. However, what many people may not know, is that
the first wave of the Returned were in fact black Portuguese, who were looking for a
new way of life, many of them who had never seen Portugal
The Political Philosophy of Karl Raimund Popper
Karl Raimund popper (1902 to 1994) was an influential philosopher of science, who
philosophized about society, in much the same way he philosophized about science in
a critical spirit. His personal experience, as an Austrian Jew in the days of the Nazi
Anschluss (meaning link up or annexation in the German language), provided him a
wealth of firsthand experience and insights into the nature of totalitarian governments.
At a point in popper s life he was an enthusiast of Marxist socialism, but that
enthusiasm was short lived as he soon began to develop a skeptical turn of mind
towards Marxist socialism. He questioned the rationale in the sacrifice of human life
which communism found necessary to its cause, after the leaders of the ... Show more

They also postulated a broad range of social teleological theories generally called
historic ism in which society was forced into accepting a unilateral version of reality
which was wholly certain as to it present state and future outcomes.
In the defense of the liberal tradition in politics Popper developed certain
philosophical positions, to counter the notions by those philosophers who advocated
such illiberal philosophical ideas that could only lead to the creation of closed
societies for the world. The philosophical positions which popper advanced included
a twin edged liberalism , in the sense of peacefully tolerating the proponents of
closed societies in free societies, as long as they stuck to verbal arguments only, and
social engineering by a piecemeal or (gradual) approach to social reforms.
Popper considered the west and the rest of the world endangered by the influence of
such thought that promoted a historicist or collectivist frame of social thought. This
sort of frame for social thought he argued could only lead to the establishment of
authoritarian and totalitarian forms of government, which would in turn suppress and
constrain the liberties and lives of people in the long run.

Importance Of Human Interaction In The Novel The Fault
In...
In today s society, human interaction is a must. People crave relationships to fill a
void in life, feeding off of others in order to succeed as well as develop the social
skills needed to persevere in the world. Human interaction (such as building
relationships with loved ones) is a very critical and crucial part in life. In 1932, an
experiment by Harry Frederick Harlow a well known psychologist involving rhesus
monkeys was conducted. In this experiment, Harlow and his colleagues separated
newborn rhesus monkeys from their mothers, holding each one in isolation chambers.
The study showed that when placed in total isolation for the first eights months of
life, denying all contact with other infants or with either type of surrogate mother,
they were permanently damaged. The need to be accepted and cared for by another
person (or in this case primate) is inevitable. In the novel, The Fault In Our Stars , a
theme surrounding relationships is present and plays a major role in developing the
story. John Green not only shows the effects of cancer and its side effects, he also
shows how those detriments on the one fighting the battle can affect friends and
family around them, as well as the importance of building relationships while you
still can. The protagonist, Hazel Grace Lancaster, closes out the world and everyone
in it, in hopes of minimizing her path of destruction that will be made after she dies.

Becoming A Midwife
On my first day in the antenatal clinic, I observed the role a midwife for filled and

A midwife s role and responsibilities during antenatal clinic, is to care for low risk
pregnant women. A midwife works mostly in the hospital or community setting. They
build a trusting relationship with expecting mothers and they have a holistic approach
to their care.
Midwives provide advice and support for women during pregnancy, they help women
make their own decisions about the care and services they access. And sometimes
the midwife will act as advocate. A midwife will assess each woman s health and
social status and promote awareness of public health issues for expectant mothers and

Descriptive Essay On Dodo Bird
Shifting The View of The Dodo
Picture yourself running through the woods as quickly as your legs can move you,
with a heap of emotions running through your brain. You feel betrayed, offended,
helpless, terrified. You have never been an aggressive animal. You are friendly, you
don t eat animals, and it s not like you have the abilities to overpower anything if you
do eat them. This may aid your imagination of what the dodo bird went through while
being hunted down by the Portuguese. The dodo bird may seem like an unvarying
animal; however, the bird, it s misconception, and how it became extinct are
intriguing in a way that you may find odd.
The dodo bird is not an extremely famous bird, like the beautiful parrot, or the
perfectly pink flamingo. Many people aren t educated on what the bird was
genuinely like, or even what the bird is. The dodo is a flightless bird from an
island in the Indian Ocean called Mauritius. It is part of the Raphidae family(Dodo
1), which consists of pigeons and doves. The dodo clings to the forest in Mauritius
and has been extinct since the 17th century(Extinct Bird 1), eating only nuts, fruits,
or seeds it found on the ground(Viral Stats). The dodo bird has a comical
appearance, that one could only imagine. It s unique visuals were small useless
wings, thick yellow legs, and a tuft of feathers high on its rear end (Dodo 2). These
odd characteristics made it easy for people to deride the dodo bird. In terms of
size, the dodo was larger than a turkey, it weighed about 23 kg (about 50
pounds)...blue gray plumage...23 centimetre (9 inch) blackish bill with reddish
sheath forming the hooked tip (Dodo 1). Although it s not a very popular bird, the
dodo has been featured in books and movies, such as Alice in Wonderland by
Lewis Carroll, or Dick, Marjorie and Fidge:a search for the wonderful dodo (Farrow
and Wright). While these two pieces are very contributing to the discovery and
familiarity of the bird, they are also very contributing to the controversial
misconception of the bird.
There is a national misconception of the appearance and intelligence of the dodo
bird. Most people view the dodo bird as...well, as a dodo. However, according to

Analysis Of The Article Winning At Change By John P....
Question 30 The four mistakes discussed in the article Winning at Change by John P.
Kotter are partly (very slightly) and indirectly discussed in Chapter 14. One of the
key factors in the chapter is the rational approach to organization change and includes
Beer s model that is used to understand why change initiatives fail. Kotter s 4
common mistakes 1.Failing to establish a sense of urgency Kotter mentions this as
the first crucial step to gain the team s momentum and develop an action plan. In his
approach he suggests gathering a key group of people to identify every possible
factor that contributes to complacency, then brainstorming ways to counter each
factor. In Beer s formula this is dissatisfaction, and the first step is determining how
satisfied followers are with their current situation. The followers fuel for organization
change is their emotions and the textbook suggests different methods to determine
their satisfaction, such as: surveys, grievance records, customer complaints, and
conversations. Kotter, on the other hand indicates the method of a day long retreat
with certain important individuals. 2.Under communicating their change vision
Kotter signals that an effective change vision must include not just new strategies and
structures but also new, aligned behaviors on the part of senior executives. Which
means leading by example. In the textbook, the next component in the change model
is the Model variable. Just as Kotter portrayed there is a strong

Most contemporary scholars and historians dismiss this source as unreliable and in
many places entirely wrong, in any event, there is no mention of King Arthur in Gilda
s writings. This absence of early written sources pertaining to King Arthur suggests
three hypotheses:
1)There is a document or written account that historians have not found or do not
have access to;
2)The history of King Arthur was an oral tale, passed down verbally through a
number of generations before it was recorded in written form; or,
3)King Arthur is solely a creation of Medieval, romantic literature.

The Impact Of Media On The Media Industry
Over all this documentary made me feel very defeated and overwhelmed. Possibly it
is just my mood tonight, but it is clear that a few really wealthy companies run the
media in the United States.
There has been a decline in small ownership media companies similar to Independent
Lens in recent years. This decline correlates with the Telecommunication Act of 1996
that ended most ownership restrictions (Campbell, Martin, Fabos, 2014, p. 224). It
was thought that this deregulation would encourage competition in the media market
place, instead it had the opposite effect and created large media conglomerates.
Cooperation s like Time Warner, Disney, and individuals like Rupert Murdoc own
multiple media outlets making it very difficult for other smaller media outlets to
afford to advertise enough to stay in business. Rather than competing, many of these
companies hold joint venture investments and it is not in their best interest to
compete with each other. Deregulations in the industry has allowed these monopolies
to become very powerful limiting the impact of the FCC (Rich Media, Poor
Democracy, n.d.).
The film points out that investigative Journalism has been in a steady decline since
1996. Now that cooperation s own the news stations it is more about profits rather
than true investigative reporting that costs much more than the fluff reporting or
getting your news off the wire. News reporters now have to compete for ratings and
advertisers to stay competitive. Cable
Their Eyes Were Watching God Literary Analysis
The arrival of spring brings with it the blossoming of many easily swayed, naive
adolescents. In Zora Neale Hurston s novel, Their Eyes Were Watching God , Janie
(the main character) positively radiates these types of emotions. It becomes known
to any reader that the evocation of these experimental behaviors is a clear indication
of Janie s point of view on what loveshould really be like. The sheer fact that the
subject is so very reoccurring transforms this simplistic symbol into a motif. This
prompt shall discuss the reason as to why Hurston chooses to revisit this idea of a
pear tree in blossom whenever Janie experiences a seemingly familiar and yet
unknown form of love in the few men she meets.
The prevailing theme in the story would be Janie s many ups and downs when it
comes to how she confronts her inner self; especially when it comes to her
youthful vision of love. An example of this would be, She had glossy leaves and
bursting buds and she wanted to struggle with life but it seemed to elude her.
(Hurston 11) This statement fulfills the assumption that with all the coddling life
has done to Janie, she will consequently receive a more oriented and richer of who
she is. She is given time to explore herself, and as a teenager, she starts to come of
han age in which she realizes what it means to love in her mind. Her sense of love
is constantly brought up again and again in order to engrave the idea that Janie may
never be truly satisfied with the love she
Human Environment And The Environment
Climate change is grounded by theory and observations based on direct measurements
and remote sensing from satellites and other platforms, which make its scientific
bases strong and reliable (Stocker et al., 2013). Drivers of climate change include both
natural and anthropogenic substances, but the latter has caused extreme and major
observed changes in the climatesystem. Human reliance on fossil fuels and on
industrialized forms of agriculture has caused us to reach to the point in which the
ecosystem and the environment are at risk. Results of such human activities could
result in irreversible climate changethat will damage the environment and reflect
negatively on sustainable development. (Rockström et al., 2009). This essay will
explore the observed changes in the climate system due to anthropogenic activities
and will highlight the severity of fossil fuel reliance which will negatively impact the
ecosystem and human well being.
I.Evidence
A.Changes in Temperature
It is evident that troposphere warming has been occurring since the mid 20th century.
This has caused major changes in global surface temperatures. Measurements and
observations have shown that during the last three decades, the surface of the Earth
has been warmer than any prior decade since 1850. Furthermore, the period between
1983 2012 has been the warmest period of the last 1400 years in the Northern
Hemisphere (Stocker et al., 2013). All the continents have experienced warming and
increase in surface temperatures, except for Antarctica where there is no data
available yet. Global warming has also caused changes in the weather and climate.
The number of cold days and nights have decreased, while the number of warm
days and night has increased on a global scale. Large parts of Asia, Australia, and
Europe have experienced an increase in heat waves, and Europe and North America
have experienced an increase in the intensity of heavy rain (Stocker et al., 2013).
Changes in the temperature have also caused the upper and bottom ocean to warm.
It is certain that the upper 75 m of the ocean has warmed by 0.11В°C from the
period between 1971 and 2010 and that 3000 m to the bottom of the ocean has
warmed from 1992 2005, with the largest warming
Digital Technology And Social Media Essay
More recently than in years past, digital technology and social media have grown
to become a part of our everyday lives. The recent rise in those who own
smartphones allows this everyday use of digital technology and social networking to
be easier than ever before. At any time and any place, we have the ability to socialize
with nearly anyone even celebrities who have no idea most of us even exist. The
continuous consumption of digital mediahas altered once personal face to face
communicationto just that, digital. More and more people seem to be living in what
Sonia Maasik and Jack Solomon call The Cloud . The Cloud is a seemingly alternate
universe of which communication is altered from personal to digital. This universe
has led to debates over whether or not these online communities are real or whether
social mediais actually social. Various digital media sources also encourage users to
create individual identities, of which may or may not actually be real. It seems as
though our reliance on digital technology and social media have allowed the
determination of certain aspects of our lives. Although social media allows us to
connect with nearly anyone at any time, Americans have taken advantage of its use,
and their attention has been drawn away from real life interactions to digital ones.
The ramifications of such influences reflect the hidden insecurities of Americans and,
ironically, emphasize our inclination to boast about ourselves by allowing others to

Big Brother Symbolism
Big Brother: Protector or Dark Representative As far as the eye can see, the posters
so bold and ubiquitous boast Big Brother Is Watching You (Orwell 3). He is the
leader of the Party, yet he is also the government itself; he is a symbol representing
much more than what is implied. In 1984 by George Orwell, Big Brother
represents the darkness behind the Party. This dark symbolism is evident in big
brother s name using the principles of doublespeak, similarities between big brother
and dictators, big brother s totalitarian like action and purpose, and the fear caused
by big brother s unceasing watch on his people. Though Big Brother is a symbol for
the Party s darkness, some readers interpret his character as harmless. Afterall, big

Much like Hitler, Franco, and Stalin, Big Brother is worshipped by his followers,
though the worship of Big Brother is especially important because it takes place of
outlawed organized religion ( 1984 236). In addition to this, Big Brother also
knows that truth is textual and thusly creates the Ministry of Truth to dispose of
books and other such documentation of stories that do not suit his needs, much like
how Hitler burned books for the same purpose (Ingersoll). This knowledge was
carried out to such an extent that Big Brother could rewrite astronomy to make the
stars mere miles away from Earth if such a truth accorded with the unrestrained
exercise of power by the Party (Ingersoll). Another example of Big Brother s
similarity to dictators can be found when Winston sees himself after he has been
tortured by O Brien. The figure that Winston sees in the mirror, complete with

Visual Argument Analysis
Today, it is without a doubt that public communication is at the heart of our
economy, our politics and our society. It is being used in different aspects of society
studios use it to advertise their films. Advocates use it to encourage social causes.
The businessmen use it to furnish their image. Politicians use it, for them to get
elected. It is a field constructed on various ideas and images, many information and
persuasion, tactics and strategy. There is no product or policy that will ever succeed
without a clever message that targets the right audience or people in innovative and
creative ways. To communicate strategically is one of today s ability to communicate

Visual arguments can be very useful in terms of passing a message along to the
public. Common examples of an advertisement would be seen on TV ads, possibly
a poster, billboard, and commercials. An ad that caught my eye is a powerful image
portraying verbal abuse. It shows a man screaming at a woman with a fist coming
out of the man s mouth and punching the woman in the face. It basically relays the
message of how verbal abuse is just as bad or hurtful as physical violence and abuse.
This ad also attempts to target the emotion of the viewers. Her facial expression is
key in this ad. There are no textual elements but the picture is strong enough to the
point that texts is no longer needed. The ad does not put us in the situation but it
shows us how verbal abuse can be extremely hurtful. Collingwood argues that other
sentient beings are able to engage with art and get a sense of the total imaginative
experience that prompted it. Collingwood mentions that There is a particular process
of recognition that happens which, if the art has succeeded in communicating on
more than a purely idiosyncratic level, leads to enhanced self knowledge, and by
extension an enhanced collective self knowledge. Given the fundamental formulation
of the artistic process, and especially given the unavoidable loss of intensity of
feeling even for the artist, then clearly the engagement of the fellow sentient being is
not one of the equivalence with that of the artist, but an imaginative engagement
based on the stimulus to hand, be it poem, sound of tactile art. (Swale.
Grapes Of Wrath By John Ford
Acceptance Humans always want to find a place where they can be assimilated.
Humans want to live in a community that they can assimilate into comfortably and
can feel safe in easily. Grapes of Wrath, directed by John Ford, which portrays the
story of capitalist and environmental forces pushing a poor family off their land and
their migration to California. The family tries to look for a place where they can
secure jobs and food to support themselves daily. Similarly, the El Norte, directed
by Gregory Nava, is about a brother and a sister who have to escape from their
government in their village to the USA. Both Grapes of Wrath and El Norte argue
that humans are not accepted unless they are welcomed, able to survive, and
allowed to stay there. In Grapes of Wrath, Joad s family is not welcomed in the
environment or the company. When Tom Joad is on the way home, the destructed
family s house scene illustrates that the environment does not welcome them to live
there. In the image, some dead trees have dried out on the sandy ground. Darkness
covers the whole view of this scene with the sound of the wind howling. The wind
carries a lot of sand, showing that this place is solitary, and that nature has moved on
from the land. They cannot plant or harvest fruit from the trees or crops on their
land. In addition, as if being on useless land was not bad enough, the Shawnee Land
and Cattle Company who owned the lands forced them off. The scene with many

The Quantitative data collected can be used to graph or construct a table of the
results. The Qualitative data is the more complicated of the two data s because it
is descriptive but both are equally important. Scientific Theory Construction and
Testing Testing is conducted and hypothesis is formed in order to reach an
outcome. Clearly to understand scientific theory, the word has to first be defined.
Scientific theory is based on scientific observations are hypothesized and retested
until it is proven to be valid, and there is not evidence to disprove it. The variables
are taken into consideration when creating a theory. Intervening variables is
important when developing theories because the ideas allow the researchers to
explain the relationship between independent and dependent variables. If the test
is inaccurate and the hypothesis proves to be false, the testing process will be
repeated and once accurate a theory is formed. Research is a trial and error process.
The Scientific Theory Construction and Testing is an important research process.
The first step is to introduce the theory. The second step is to develop a hypothesis
used to explain the theory. The third step to conduct an experiment used to approve
or disprove the hypothesis. Once the process is confirmed and hypothesis is proved
to be valid, a theory is formed. Researchers evaluate theories by judging the
Roles Of Women In Twelfth Night By William Shakespeare
In Shakespeare s time, the role of women were if they were property to their
husbands. They were only to be at their house doing everything a wife should do,
like clean, cook, any duties that had to be done, they were usually married early 20
s. They were to do whatever to please their husbands, which was mostly in sexual
ways. In twelfth night, Orsino says For women are as roses, whose fair flow r,
being once displayed, doth fall that very hour. (page 41) With this quote, it was
saying that women were just seen for their beauty at a young age, but once aging,
they would lose it all. Viola states Alas, our frailty is the cause, not we, for such as
we are made of, such we be. (page 30) Which was explaining how the women are

Collision Avoidance System Essay
Every year millions of people get in vehicular accidents that cause expensive
repairs and sometimes trauma for the drivers. While collision avoidance systems
are very advanced and well developed, most systems are too expensive for the
average consumer. Our team s general mission is to reduce the likelihood of car
crashes by improving an aspect in the car that either keeps the driver more engaged
while driving or assisting the driver in various tasks such as stopping and lane
changes. Along with the general mission, our team has defined further parameters of
our product in an attempt to narrow our ideas down. We decided the product should
be modular, third party, and affordable for the common driver. We also wanted our

Cars with built in systems are not without their faults. Other than their limited
availability and high cost, it is also rare to find a car that has all the features of
collision avoidance systems available. Often times car manufacturers will only offer
the warning systems without the features that can actually control a car independent
of a driver. Also these systems do not guarantee that the vehiclewill not get into a
crash even when the car can control its speed and tire position. Another problem is
that the system is directly integrated into the pieces of the car such as the bumper,
mirrors, etc. which makes repairs extremely expensive. When looking at potential
demographics for our product, we found a phone survey conducted Insurance
Institute for Highway Safety, we found that 83% of parents would not be willing
to buy their child a brand new car. With that many parents buying used cars, a lot of
those teens will not have the luxurious access to built in car safety. To visualize
how large the difference is, here is a simple pie chart on the topic: Another factor
that led us to focus on teen drivers was a study in 2014, also conducted by the
Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, that stated that 48% of teenagers who died
in a driving accident died in a car that was at least 11 years old. Seeing this statistic
made us realize that we wanted to develop a product that could be attached to cars
that are not only 11 years
Negligence in The FarmerВґs Children Essay
As a child your morale can be greatly affected due to occurrences that you may have
experienced, whether it had been pleasurable or displeasing. It is very common for
a child to entrust their guardians with the responsibility of providing for them, but it
becomes incredibly difficult for a child to disregard experiences of immense
adversity and affliction, as incidents are subliminally embedded into a person s
subconsciousness. In The Farmers Children, the stepmother seems to abstain from
doing things that would even remotely allow for us to consider her as being an
ample guardian, as she allows for Emerson and Cato to venture into the barn in the
inclemency of the open air with scarce provisions. Bishop admirably attempts to

But if they tried to warm their noses against the clumpy lapels of their mackinaws,
the freezing moisture felt even worse, and they gave it up and merely pointed out
their breath to each other as it whitened and then vanished (Bishop 289). Emerson
and Cato are facing discomfort at the hands of the brumal conditions, having been
conspicuously described. Due to the fact that their provisions are scarce, we are left
to assume that they may not be able to make it through the unrelenting bitterness of
the cold. We were ascertained that Emerson and Cato gradually grew numb and
cold and that they felt immense pain. The freezing moisture also had proven to get
worse and with no attainable sources of head we are yet again left to assume that
death is to be expected. The Farmers Children, is built on the premise that two boys
find themselves in the cold with scare provisions. Clues are presented to us as readers
throughout the story as to whether or not the boys will survive amidst the affliction
that they are currently facing. The use of foreshadowing enhances our attentiveness as
to what is to come.
Bishop alludes to other works as a way of furtherly enhancing the reader s
understanding of the text. As a reader we are often left to reevaluate and interrogate
our initial confrontations of the original text. It allows for tension to be built up as
our initial expectations are negated. We are often left to draw parallels in
The History and Role of Accounting in Business Essays
Accounting can be defined in a number of ways, but I chose the book definition,
which is; Accounting is an information system that provides reports to stakeholders

is defined as an accounting principle that aims to improve accounting in
organizations. Taxaccounting is defined as the accounting needed to comply with
jurisdictional tax regulations. In other words, tax accounting is used to put tax on
goods and services. Accounting has revolved into what every company uses today
which is the equation of; Assets=Liabilties+Owners Equity. The meaning of this
equation is to show companies what they own and what they owe to there

organization, or system that affects or can be affected by an organization s actions.
Examples of stakeholders in accounting are; owners, suppliers, customers,
government, employees, creditors, and labor unions. These people are classified
into four categories; Capital Market, Product or Service Market, Government, and

The Implementation Of The Compliance Plan
Introduction. Here at O Kelly Medical Practice it is our goal to maintain an
effective compliance plan that is in accordance with the compliance program
guidance that is set by the Office of Inspector General, U.S. Department of Health

any violations of both law and company policy (hcma consulting.com). Compliance
Plan Objectives. The basic objectives to this compliance plan are as follows. The
first is to prevent any fraud and abuse. This is accomplished through a formal
process to discover, inspect, fix, as well as prevent violations that affect any
reimbursement for healthcare services rendered. The next objective is to make
sure that our compliance is in accordance with all applicable laws including
federal, state, and local. We will also help to defend this practice during any
investigation or prosecution for fraud by validating compliant behavior, therefore
reducing fines or prosecution (Valerius). Standards of Conduct. O Kelly Medical
Practice has implemented many standards of conduct in order to prevent fraud and

Power In Animal Farm
Animal Farm A thought, similar to a tree, starts out as an idea. It s planted in the
mind of an individual and over time it grows, allowing it to spread its roots to those
who surround it. Although, in truth a tree doesn t alter anyone s outlook on life,
but the idea of something so small growing into something big is comparable to an
idea becoming a thought. In George Orwell s Animal Farm, the idea that animals
no longer needing to rely on humans and becoming their own society, becomes
more than an idea. As the events in the novel transpire, the overall objective
becomes a way of life. I believe that a society can easily be manipulated with ideas
by those who seek power. In the novel, one of the many themes is power corrupts
those who abuse it. Throughout history, many leaders who ve risen to power
gained support through influencing others with their ideas. They seek out
followers who can be controlled without any effort of challenging their state of
mind. They fall victim into a way of thinking and without knowing it. As long as it
drilled into their mind, they won t question it, they ll simply follow what s given
to them. Individuals will seek others who they believe will appreciate this way of
thinking. They ll plant the idea in those they love and those they trust. Soon, more
and more people will follow this belief, seeking a purpose, hoping that they ve found
their place in life. This kind of ambition fuels a person s goal to seek power. These

William Golding, Gabriel Garcia Marquez
As humans, we see life flash before our eyes and many things we take for granted
and do not give a second reasoning on. Little thought goes into to what effects; we
actually have on nature and what consequences that has on our own nature. For
this there is literature, which helps unravel human nature and explain what can
result from this carelessness. Golding and Marquez highlight the negative impacts
on human nature, through dialogue and setting. The authors want readers to
believe, that there is more wrong doing in today s society, than there is good. To
start out, at one point in everyone s life they have most likely wanted to be famous
or be involved in leadership. Too much of this treatment may lead to greed, which
is a downfall of human nature. Two authors Golding of, Lord of the Flies and
Marquez of, I Only Came to Use the Phone , depict this through Jack and Maria. In
Lord of the Flies, greed is shown through Jack believing that he should be leader,
instead of Ralph. I ought to be chief, said Jack with simple arrogance... (Golding
22). This line proves that Jack is already not fit to take the throne; he is self
centered and only cares about his position among the others. He has a lack of
concern about the other people on the island. Golding sets another example of
greed, when Jack discovers a huge pink rock for the first time, he manages to point
out how it towers over everything on the island. Jack gives the overbearing rock the
name Castle Rock, because of its
The Egyptian Chantress
On January 25, 2011, Susanne Bickel and her team came across the tomb of an
Egyptian chantress, who had lain undisturbed since her burial nearly 3,000 years
ago. The tomb discovered in the Valley of the Kings of Upper Egypt is the first un
looted tomb since the discovery of Tutankhamun in 1922. Yet this occupant was not
a King and not the original inhabitant of the tomb. The Hieroglyphs on the side of
the sarcoughugus identifies the person buried as The Chantress of Amun: Nehemes
Bastet , a woman of high social status from a family of priests at the wealthy and
influential temple of Karnak. Her death is dated c.945 715 BC because the
hieroglyphics match the style of that era. The Chantress or temple singer as Julian
Smith describes in
The Blues, A Genre Of Music
Does one have to be black and from the south to play the blues?
The blues, a genre of music so well known and so universal, that one knows is
associated with black culture; and forever connected to it. However, some may
argue that not anyone can play the blues and blues is only black music. That being
said, does it matter what the skin color of an individual may be to play the blues? In
contrast I strongly believe anyone can play the blues because music is the purest form
of creativity and communication.
The reality is that today it is seen it all over, countless of people from many parts of
the globe perform this genre of music known as The Blues. It is played by the
millions and by many different races some of which are not from the south; but is
it wrong for them to play it? Certain individuals may believe that playing the blues,
one has to be black to even be considered. There is an individual who argues that
one needs to really have The Blues to play them and it is only black music. (Harris,
2015 n.p) On the other hand I would consider that the culture or race of the performer
does not matter. People from all races and backgrounds experience the blues, this
genre of music has become universal; it is a part of world music now. it is wonderful
to think that a genre of music once viewed as wrong or barbaric has become so well
popularized and loved.
When one thinks of the blues one almost always pictures a lone black man in his
guitar singing his troubles away.

  • 2. The Naked Citadel Summary Altering Women The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex (US Constitution 19th Amendment). These were the few words that thousands of women fought for. From the beginning of mankind women have been treated unequally from men. Women have had to fight to win the same rights as the men who were born with them. As women progressed gaining equal rights as men, society also became more advanced changing its guidelines of how women should act. Leslie Bell in her story, Selections from Hard to Get: Twenty Something Women and the Paradox of Sexual Freedom, discusses how women nowadays have to adhere and alter their personalities to meet society s new norms. Often women who try to change themselves experience splitting . Bell gives examples of women, her patients, who have dealt with splitting and talks about how they changed themselves to fit into society. Some ideas from Bell s story can be related to Susan Faludis story, The Naked Citadel. The Citadel is an all boys military school, but this all changes when Shannon Faulkner, a girl, is allowed to attend it. Since no other girl has attended The Citadel, Shannon does not know how to adjust and act in the new atmosphere. Women, like Bell s patients and Shannon, have tried to changed themselves to fit into the new society. These women did not want to be outcasts, so they had to adjust to the new world. Men have had it easier

As, a mathematician Emmy Noether innovated contributions to abstract algebra and theoretical physics. Some people such as Pavel Alexandrov, Albert Einstein, Jean DieudonnГ©, Hermann Weyl, and Norbert Wiener had highly valued her. Many people to this day describe her as the most important woman in mathematics . There are many fun and interesting facts about Emmy Noether. Emmy Noether was born on March 23, 1882. Symptoms And Treatment Of Clostridium Difficile Essay Clostridium difficile BIS 222 001 Lillian Armoush (Introduction, Causal agent, and Epidemiology) Katelyn Ryan (Transmission, Clinical features, and Diagnosis) Jeremy Vasquez (Treatment, Prognosis, Control measures, and Conclusion) Introduction Clostridium difficile (C. diff) is a type of bacterium that can cause a person to endure diarrhea like symptoms to more drastic symptoms that may involve inflammation of the colon. Most people who come across C. diff are expected to be in a hospital setting for an extensive period of time. It is more accessible to acquire C. diff when a person is of old age, in a hospital setting, and taking antibiotic medication (Mayo Clinic, 2016). Normally, one would think that taking antibiotics would not cause any harm to the body, but would instead help the body fight off diseases. However, once a person who has been taking antibiotics for a long period of time stops taking them, such as in a nursing home or hospital setting, that person can develop some reactions in the absence of those antibiotics (Bartlett, 2012). This reaction, then allows the person to experience diarrhea symptoms, which lead to inflammation of the colon and more drastic colon problems. This paper will mainly explain what Clostridium difficile is, its causal agent, epidemiology, ways of transmission, some clinical features, diagnoses and how to test for the bacterium, treatment, prognosis, and preventative measures. There are treatments available for this

Science, Religion, Politics And The Arts Of Modern Europe Science, Religion, Politics and the Arts of Modern Europe In early modern European society, many factors induced the rise of the middle class. Aside from the trade markets and early industrialism, quickly changing thoughts regarding science, God, man and the cosmos propelled political philosophies into uncharted territories. Modern thinking led to the philosophical writings which helped usher in the acceptance of these thoughts to much of society. Science and religion were the hinges to the new political environment; all of these changes in society greatly affected the many works of painters, sculptors, novelists, poets, musicians, film makers and architects. This period was one of great instability and monumental changes within attitudes of politics and the common man s role in the universe. The rise of the middle class started from capitalism beginnings during the exploration and trade start up throughout Europe. Merchants steadily increased income, providing for more power in communities. This moved much of what was known as the peasant class to a middle class. The industrial revolution also contributed to the middle class surge in Europe. The growth of businesses and of government activities increased the need for professional people, and relevant educational opportunities expanded sometimes faster still (Stearns, 116). In some of Europe, the middle class were known as the bourgeois. These were the leaders of companies, as well as some of the workforce within the

Plastics are present in everything, from packaging to electronics to toys to tools...etc. This raises the question of when it was that plastic was first integrated into our lives. To discuss this, we must turn to the first kind of plastic that was man made: Parkesine. In 1862, a British inventor by the name of Alexander Parkes introduced the first man made plastic, Parkesine. Parkesine was a big hit, as seen by the fact that it was used to make combs, printers molds, buttons, combs, and cutlery handles. However, Parkes wasn t the best businessmen, as he ended up bankrupt. Plastic, coming from the Greek word plastikos means able to be molded into different shapes is a term given to a wide variety of synthetic polymers possessing a large molecular weight. These polymers are made from raw materials such as carbon, silicon, nitrogen....etc. To understand how to break plastics down, first we must understand how they re manufactured. They are usually biodegradable and obtained from renewable sources. Examples: Polyhydroxybutyrate and Poly(Lactic Acid) (PLA) Synthetic

On Earthquakes Essay On Earthquakes An earthquake is a shaking or trembling of the crust of the earth caused by underground volcanic action or by the breaking and shifting of rock beneath the surface. The volcanic action and shifting rocks create strain which continues to build to a sudden release of pressure resulting in a shock wave. The vibrations produced in the crust can vary from barely noticeable to enormously destructive. Shock waves can be classified into two broad categories. Waves that send particles oscillating back and forth in the same direction as the waves are traveling are called primary. However, some records do exist and date major earthquake events back to 425 BC when one occurred off the coast of Greece resulting in an island named Euboea. Another occurred in Asia Minor about AD 17 and another leveled much of the Roman city of Pompeii in AD 63. During the Middle Ages, severe earthquakes struck England, in 1318; Naples, Italy, in 1456; and Lisbon, Portugal, in 1531. Casualties from major earthquakes have resulted in the greatest disasters in history. The worst occurred in 1556 in the Shannxi (Shensi) Province in China and killed an estimated 800,000 people. During the 18th century, the Japanese city of Edo (site of modern day Tokyo) was struck and killed 200,000. Earthquakes in Sicily in 1693 and Lisbon in 1755 each killed about 60,000 people. Using word choice the author shows how life as a youth varies then that of an adult. In the first line of the poem this can be found. If it is raining heavily then it would most likely be cloud. • 15. Patriotism In The Film Mr. Smith Goes To Washington In the current political climate, anything said against the government is deemed unpatriotic by certain areas of the culture. Patriotism is bandied about as a necessity by some, and derided completely by others. But what is true patriotism, and how necessary is it? The film Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, made in 1939, was originally condemned for being unpatriotic as it showed the ugly side of American democratic politics at a time where democracies were falling all over Europe. However, the film presents a different view of patriotismthat supports the most important part of democracy; the people. Mr. Smith Goes to Washington clearly demonstrates the failures and problems in American democracy, but paints protagonist Jefferson Smith as extremely patriotic, illustrating that patriotism is not a blind stubborn belief that a country is right all of the time, but a wholehearted passion for making said country a better place. This view of patriotism may have seemed critical in 1939, but the movie effectively shows how the citizens really are the most important part of a democracy, and how they can rail against political corruptionto truly create a better country. When protagonist Jefferson Smith very suddenly becomes a US Senator, he is portrayed as the perfect example of nominal patriotism. He has several speeches by Washington and Lincoln memorized, is the leader of a group of what are basically Boy Scouts, and spends his first day in Washington DC in awe of the monuments.

People crave relationships to fill a void in life, feeding off of others in order to succeed as well as develop the social skills needed to persevere in the world. Human interaction (such as building relationships with loved ones) is a very critical and crucial part in life. In 1932, an experiment by Harry Frederick Harlow a well known psychologist involving rhesus monkeys was conducted. In this experiment, Harlow and his colleagues separated newborn rhesus monkeys from their mothers, holding each one in isolation chambers. The study showed that when placed in total isolation for the first eights months of life, denying all contact with other infants or with either type of surrogate mother, they were permanently damaged. The need to be accepted and cared for by another person (or in this case primate) is inevitable. In the novel, The Fault In Our Stars , a theme surrounding relationships is present and plays a major role in developing the story. John Green not only shows the effects of cancer and its side effects, he also shows how those detriments on the one fighting the battle can affect friends and family around them, as well as the importance of building relationships while you still can. The protagonist, Hazel Grace Lancaster, closes out the world and everyone in it, in hopes of minimizing her path of destruction that will be made after she dies. Descriptive Essay On Dodo Bird Shifting The View of The Dodo Picture yourself running through the woods as quickly as your legs can move you, with a heap of emotions running through your brain. You feel betrayed, offended, helpless, terrified. You have never been an aggressive animal. You are friendly, you don t eat animals, and it s not like you have the abilities to overpower anything if you do eat them. This may aid your imagination of what the dodo bird went through while being hunted down by the Portuguese. The dodo bird may seem like an unvarying animal; however, the bird, it s misconception, and how it became extinct are intriguing in a way that you may find odd. The dodo bird is not an extremely famous bird, like the beautiful parrot, or the perfectly pink flamingo. Many people aren t educated on what the bird was genuinely like, or even what the bird is. The dodo is a flightless bird from an island in the Indian Ocean called Mauritius. It is part of the Raphidae family(Dodo 1), which consists of pigeons and doves. The dodo clings to the forest in Mauritius and has been extinct since the 17th century(Extinct Bird 1), eating only nuts, fruits, or seeds it found on the ground(Viral Stats). The dodo bird has a comical appearance, that one could only imagine. It s unique visuals were small useless wings, thick yellow legs, and a tuft of feathers high on its rear end (Dodo 2). These odd characteristics made it easy for people to deride the dodo bird. In terms of size, the dodo was larger than a turkey, it weighed about 23 kg (about 50 pounds)...blue gray plumage...23 centimetre (9 inch) blackish bill with reddish sheath forming the hooked tip (Dodo 1). Although it s not a very popular bird, the dodo has been featured in books and movies, such as Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, or Dick, Marjorie and Fidge:a search for the wonderful dodo (Farrow and Wright). • 23. Analysis Of The Article Winning At Change By John P.... Question 30 The four mistakes discussed in the article Winning at Change by John P. Kotter are partly (very slightly) and indirectly discussed in Chapter 14. One of the key factors in the chapter is the rational approach to organization change and includes Beer s model that is used to understand why change initiatives fail. Kotter s 4 common mistakes 1.Failing to establish a sense of urgency Kotter mentions this as the first crucial step to gain the team s momentum and develop an action plan. In his approach he suggests gathering a key group of people to identify every possible factor that contributes to complacency, then brainstorming ways to counter each factor. In Beer s formula this is dissatisfaction, and the first step is determining how satisfied followers are with their current situation. The followers fuel for organization change is their emotions and the textbook suggests different methods to determine their satisfaction, such as: surveys, grievance records, customer complaints, and conversations. Kotter, on the other hand indicates the method of a day long retreat with certain important individuals. 2.Under communicating their change vision Kotter signals that an effective change vision must include not just new strategies and structures but also new, aligned behaviors on the part of senior executives. Which means leading by example. In the textbook, the next component in the change model is the Model variable. Just as Kotter portrayed there is a strong

Possibly it is just my mood tonight, but it is clear that a few really wealthy companies run the media in the United States. There has been a decline in small ownership media companies similar to Independent Lens in recent years. This decline correlates with the Telecommunication Act of 1996 that ended most ownership restrictions (Campbell, Martin, Fabos, 2014, p. 224). It was thought that this deregulation would encourage competition in the media market place, instead it had the opposite effect and created large media conglomerates. Cooperation s like Time Warner, Disney, and individuals like Rupert Murdoc own multiple media outlets making it very difficult for other smaller media outlets to afford to advertise enough to stay in business. Rather than competing, many of these companies hold joint venture investments and it is not in their best interest to compete with each other. Deregulations in the industry has allowed these monopolies to become very powerful limiting the impact of the FCC (Rich Media, Poor Democracy, n.d.). The film points out that investigative Journalism has been in a steady decline since 1996. Now that cooperation s own the news stations it is more about profits rather than true investigative reporting that costs much more than the fluff reporting or getting your news off the wire. News reporters now have to compete for ratings and advertisers to stay competitive. Cable
  • 27. Their Eyes Were Watching God Literary Analysis The arrival of spring brings with it the blossoming of many easily swayed, naive adolescents. In Zora Neale Hurston s novel, Their Eyes Were Watching God , Janie (the main character) positively radiates these types of emotions. It becomes known to any reader that the evocation of these experimental behaviors is a clear indication of Janie s point of view on what loveshould really be like. The sheer fact that the subject is so very reoccurring transforms this simplistic symbol into a motif. This prompt shall discuss the reason as to why Hurston chooses to revisit this idea of a pear tree in blossom whenever Janie experiences a seemingly familiar and yet unknown form of love in the few men she meets. The prevailing theme in the story would be Janie s many ups and downs when it comes to how she confronts her inner self; especially when it comes to her youthful vision of love. An example of this would be, She had glossy leaves and bursting buds and she wanted to struggle with life but it seemed to elude her. (Hurston 11) This statement fulfills the assumption that with all the coddling life has done to Janie, she will consequently receive a more oriented and richer of who she is. She is given time to explore herself, and as a teenager, she starts to come of han age in which she realizes what it means to love in her mind. Her sense of love is constantly brought up again and again in order to engrave the idea that Janie may never be truly satisfied with the love she
  • 28. Human Environment And The Environment Climate change is grounded by theory and observations based on direct measurements and remote sensing from satellites and other platforms, which make its scientific bases strong and reliable (Stocker et al., 2013). Drivers of climate change include both natural and anthropogenic substances, but the latter has caused extreme and major observed changes in the climatesystem. Human reliance on fossil fuels and on industrialized forms of agriculture has caused us to reach to the point in which the ecosystem and the environment are at risk. Results of such human activities could result in irreversible climate changethat will damage the environment and reflect negatively on sustainable development. (RockstrГ¶m et al., 2009). This essay will explore the observed changes in the climate system due to anthropogenic activities and will highlight the severity of fossil fuel reliance which will negatively impact the ecosystem and human well being. I.Evidence A.Changes in Temperature It is evident that troposphere warming has been occurring since the mid 20th century. This has caused major changes in global surface temperatures. Measurements and observations have shown that during the last three decades, the surface of the Earth has been warmer than any prior decade since 1850. Furthermore, the period between 1983 2012 has been the warmest period of the last 1400 years in the Northern Hemisphere (Stocker et al., 2013). All the continents have experienced warming and increase in surface temperatures, except for Antarctica where there is no data available yet. Global warming has also caused changes in the weather and climate. The number of cold days and nights have decreased, while the number of warm days and night has increased on a global scale. Large parts of Asia, Australia, and Europe have experienced an increase in heat waves, and Europe and North America have experienced an increase in the intensity of heavy rain (Stocker et al., 2013). Changes in the temperature have also caused the upper and bottom ocean to warm. It is certain that the upper 75 m of the ocean has warmed by 0.11В°C from the period between 1971 and 2010 and that 3000 m to the bottom of the ocean has warmed from 1992 2005, with the largest warming

The recent rise in those who own smartphones allows this everyday use of digital technology and social networking to be easier than ever before. At any time and any place, we have the ability to socialize with nearly anyone even celebrities who have no idea most of us even exist. The continuous consumption of digital mediahas altered once personal face to face communicationto just that, digital. More and more people seem to be living in what Sonia Maasik and Jack Solomon call The Cloud . The Cloud is a seemingly alternate universe of which communication is altered from personal to digital. This universe has led to debates over whether or not these online communities are real or whether social mediais actually social. Various digital media sources also encourage users to create individual identities, of which may or may not actually be real. It seems as though our reliance on digital technology and social media have allowed the determination of certain aspects of our lives. Although social media allows us to connect with nearly anyone at any time, Americans have taken advantage of its use, and their attention has been drawn away from real life interactions to digital ones. The ramifications of such influences reflect the hidden insecurities of Americans and, ironically, emphasize our inclination to boast about ourselves by allowing others to see the

He is the leader of the Party, yet he is also the government itself; he is a symbol representing much more than what is implied. In 1984 by George Orwell, Big Brother represents the darkness behind the Party. This dark symbolism is evident in big brother s name using the principles of doublespeak, similarities between big brother and dictators, big brother s totalitarian like action and purpose, and the fear caused by big brother s unceasing watch on his people. Much like Hitler, Franco, and Stalin, Big Brother is worshipped by his followers, though the worship of Big Brother is especially important because it takes place of outlawed organized religion ( 1984 236). In addition to this, Big Brother also knows that truth is textual and thusly creates the Ministry of Truth to dispose of books and other such documentation of stories that do not suit his needs, much like how Hitler burned books for the same purpose (Ingersoll). This knowledge was carried out to such an extent that Big Brother could rewrite astronomy to make the stars mere miles away from Earth if such a truth accorded with the unrestrained exercise of power by the Party (Ingersoll). Another example of Big Brother s similarity to dictators can be found when Winston sees himself after he has been tortured by O Brien. Visual arguments can be very useful in terms of passing a message along to the public. Common examples of an advertisement would be seen on TV ads, possibly a poster, billboard, and commercials. An ad that caught my eye is a powerful image portraying verbal abuse. It shows a man screaming at a woman with a fist coming out of the man s mouth and punching the woman in the face. It basically relays the message of how verbal abuse is just as bad or hurtful as physical violence and abuse. This ad also attempts to target the emotion of the viewers. Her facial expression is key in this ad. There are no textual elements but the picture is strong enough to the point that texts is no longer needed. The ad does not put us in the situation but it shows us how verbal abuse can be extremely hurtful. Collingwood argues that other sentient beings are able to engage with art and get a sense of the total imaginative experience that prompted it. Collingwood mentions that There is a particular process of recognition that happens which, if the art has succeeded in communicating on more than a purely idiosyncratic level, leads to enhanced self knowledge, and by extension an enhanced collective self knowledge. Given the fundamental formulation of the artistic process, and especially given the unavoidable loss of intensity of feeling even for the artist, then clearly the engagement of the fellow sentient being is not one of the equivalence with that of the artist, but an imaginative engagement based on the stimulus to hand, be it poem, sound of tactile art. Humans want to live in a community that they can assimilate into comfortably and can feel safe in easily. Grapes of Wrath, directed by John Ford, which portrays the story of capitalist and environmental forces pushing a poor family off their land and their migration to California. The family tries to look for a place where they can secure jobs and food to support themselves daily. Similarly, the El Norte, directed by Gregory Nava, is about a brother and a sister who have to escape from their government in their village to the USA. Both Grapes of Wrath and El Norte argue that humans are not accepted unless they are welcomed, able to survive, and allowed to stay there. In Grapes of Wrath, Joad s family is not welcomed in the environment or the company. When Tom Joad is on the way home, the destructed family s house scene illustrates that the environment does not welcome them to live there. In the image, some dead trees have dried out on the sandy ground. Darkness covers the whole view of this scene with the sound of the wind howling. The wind carries a lot of sand, showing that this place is solitary, and that nature has moved on from the land. They cannot plant or harvest fruit from the trees or crops on their land. In addition, as if being on useless land was not bad enough, the Shawnee Land and Cattle Company who owned the lands forced them off. The scene with many caterpillar tractors with engines

Scientific theory is based on scientific observations are hypothesized and retested until it is proven to be valid, and there is not evidence to disprove it. The variables are taken into consideration when creating a theory. Intervening variables is important when developing theories because the ideas allow the researchers to explain the relationship between independent and dependent variables. Other than their limited availability and high cost, it is also rare to find a car that has all the features of collision avoidance systems available. Often times car manufacturers will only offer the warning systems without the features that can actually control a car independent of a driver. Also these systems do not guarantee that the vehiclewill not get into a crash even when the car can control its speed and tire position. Another problem is that the system is directly integrated into the pieces of the car such as the bumper, mirrors, etc. which makes repairs extremely expensive. It is very common for a child to entrust their guardians with the responsibility of providing for them, but it becomes incredibly difficult for a child to disregard experiences of immense adversity and affliction, as incidents are subliminally embedded into a person s subconsciousness. Emerson and Cato are facing discomfort at the hands of the brumal conditions, having been conspicuously described. Due to the fact that their provisions are scarce, we are left to assume that they may not be able to make it through the unrelenting bitterness of the cold. It s planted in the mind of an individual and over time it grows, allowing it to spread its roots to those who surround it. Although, in truth a tree doesn t alter anyone s outlook on life, but the idea of something so small growing into something big is comparable to an idea becoming a thought. In George Orwell s Animal Farm, the idea that animals no longer needing to rely on humans and becoming their own society, becomes more than an idea. As the events in the novel transpire, the overall objective becomes a way of life. I believe that a society can easily be manipulated with ideas by those who seek power. In the novel, one of the many themes is power corrupts those who abuse it. Throughout history, many leaders who ve risen to power gained support through influencing others with their ideas. They seek out followers who can be controlled without any effort of challenging their state of mind. They fall victim into a way of thinking and without knowing it. As long as it drilled into their mind, they won t question it, they ll simply follow what s given to them. Individuals will seek others who they believe will appreciate this way of thinking. Little thought goes into to what effects; we actually have on nature and what consequences that has on our own nature. For this there is literature, which helps unravel human nature and explain what can result from this carelessness. Golding and Marquez highlight the negative impacts on human nature, through dialogue and setting. The authors want readers to believe, that there is more wrong doing in today s society, than there is good. To start out, at one point in everyone s life they have most likely wanted to be famous or be involved in leadership. Too much of this treatment may lead to greed, which is a downfall of human nature. Two authors Golding of, Lord of the Flies and Marquez of, I Only Came to Use the Phone , depict this through Jack and Maria. In Lord of the Flies, greed is shown through Jack believing that he should be leader, instead of Ralph. I ought to be chief, said Jack with simple arrogance... (Golding 22). This line proves that Jack is already not fit to take the throne; he is self centered and only cares about his position among the others. He has a lack of concern about the other people on the island. Golding sets another example of greed, when Jack discovers a huge pink rock for the first time, he manages to point out how it towers over everything on the island. Jack gives the overbearing rock the name Castle Rock, because of its

Certain individuals may believe that playing the blues, one has to be black to even be considered.
