Critical Analysis of Giorgio Agamben Essays
In, Life That Does Not Deserve to Live, Giorgio Agamben aims to expand on Michel Foucault s
concepts of biopower and biopolitics , to express the way in which the state has power over society in
the way that bare life is produced. He uses the Latin term homo sacer literally translated to sacred man
to describe a life which can be eliminated without punishment , one that possesses no value to the state
and therefore can be terminated without the act being considered a crime. Examples of this can be
seen in people who experience brain death and subsequently have their life support machine switched
off, and in people in prison camps such as Guantanamo Bay. However, the biggest example we are
given of bare life, is in the Jewish ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, Agamben s thesis that the camp can be used as a paradigm for the line that every society
sets between bare life and political existence is in itself an important argument. However, he only
concentrates on the separation of the two, rather than expanding his argument to illustrate the
divisions that are clearly prevalent within each group.
Agamben also uses the biopolitics of the Nazi regime to draw a parallel to liberal, democratic societies
in the sense that it shows that all societies have the same line in which, when crossed, one becomes
homo sacer. This is the state of exception , the point in which the sovereign decides, Which life may
be killed without the commission of a homicide . Agamben leads the argument for the state of
exception onto one regarding euthanasia. This can be seen as the sovereign uses the state of exception
to deem brain dead people as bare life . They possess no economic merit to the state and so their life is
devoid of value . The sovereign as a person, who holds the power to decide whether a person is bios or
zoe , falls to people who preside over the health of the individual, he/she can be a doctor, a
psychiatrist, and a jurist . As these represent the affluent class of society, this shows that biopower is
inevitably connected to economic worth. The Nazi regime, according to Agamben, is the first instance
in which politics and medicine have ever

Charles Lindbergh Embodiment of the American Dream
The 1920 s are well known for social movements ranging from women s rights and racial equality to
fashion and art. One could even go so far as to say that the decade embodied the American Dream.
America, as a whole, stepped forward. The first nonstop solo flight from Long Island to Paris, France
was one such display of social advancement in this decade. However, it wasn t an easy road to get
there. Modern technology such as the Concorde Jet or any modern vehicle was not available at the
time. The first affordable vehicle was invented in the 1920 s, signaling the start of a new age of
technology and mechanics, an art in its own right.
With technology advancing, aviation began to rise in popularity. Many records were made and broken,
including Amelia Earhart s flight across the Atlantic, the altitude flight record and the highest recorded
speed. But before all that, another record was made. On May 20, 1927, Charles Lindbergh set off from
New York to Paris, France. He would be the first solo flyer to successfully complete the journey.
Rising from obscurity to follow his dreams while doing what he loved, Charles A Lindbergh embodied
the American Dream as much as the 1920 s did.
Charles Augustus Lindbergh was born in Detroit, Michigan on February 4, 1907 to Charles Augustus
Lindbergh and Evangeline Lodge Land. His family was from Minnesota, where he grew up. As a
child, he frequently visited his father in Washington, D.C., as his father served in the U.S. Congress.

As Sikh Genocide And The Sikh Massacre
as Sikh Genocide
Never forget 1984
Many years has been passed but still when we read the Sikh genocide in 1984, our eyes filled with the
tears.
The 1984 Sikh riots also known as the Sikh Massacre or the genocide of Sikhs, started after the
murder of Indira Gandhi, the Prime Minister of India by her own two Sikh bodyguards. The reason
behind this was to take the revenge from Mrs. Gandhi as it was her decision to have an attack on the
Golden Temple, one of the biggest holy place of the Sikh community. Her order was named as
Operation Blue Star, motivated to take out terrorists who had blocked off themselves inside the
temple. (Kundu 2017). As the result of this army attack many of the Sikh buildings of Amritsar were

scene, the people started throwing the stones at his representative. Before the Nanavati Commission,
DP Gulati belongs to Hindu religion confirmed that the crowd outside the hospital was controlled by
Arjun Das (Congress party councillor). From October 31, evidences and police records revealed that
violence against Sikhs did not result into any deaths and was just normal violence that was only
limited to the zone where the body of Indira Gandhi was kept. The Ruling Congress party organized a
careful plan and put it into action with their local followers to kill the Sikhs of Delhi on the night of
31st October and early morning of 1st November. Congress leaders held assemblies with the purpose
of rallying local supporters to start the massacre against the Sikhs. It is also revealed that massacre of
Sikhs did not start the day of the murder of Prime Minister. Congress leaders cleverly assembled a
network of planned gangs for rallies and those same people were responsible for the Sikh riots,
according to Rajni Kothari.
The attacks on Sikhs was pre planned and the Congress party was to use state s resources to simplify
the massacre. Delhi Transportation corporation buses were used to take

How To Write An Essay About The Movie Rear Window
If you liked the movie Disturbia starring Shia labeouf you are going to enjoy the earlier edition Rear
Window (1954), directed by Alfred Hitchcock. This movies lead actor James Stewart known for his
role in the movie It s a wonderful life plays L.B. Jefferies a injured photographer stuck in his
appartment. The movie leads us to believe he broke his leg while taking pictures of a car accident.
Jefferies then spends the remainder of his time spying on his neighbors across the street at Greenwich
Village with his girlfriend Lisa played by Grace Kelly and his therapist Stella played by Thelma Ritter.
With Jefferies fascination pictures and watching people and photographing their life events Jeffries

The entire movie we see Mr. Jefferies making sly remarks to Ms. Lisa because he does not believe she
can handle his sort of lifestyle. She is too high maintenance and is not ready to be tied down by
marrying her but at this moment she became something much more important to him she stopped
being apart of him and became something for him to look at with his lens. He could not resist what
this women was risking for him to get the evidence he needed. The movie for this time period was
better than anything produced before It painted a girl as the hero of the story which on the 50 s was
not how it always was. We seen women being housewives and baby makers. Then being able to watch
Jefferies assumptions of his neighbor be put to rest once in for all was not only a great moment for the
characters in the movie but for the audience as well. Overall this movie was excellent and I highly
recommend people of all ages to watch Rear Window through the eyes of L.B. Jefferies

The Progressive Era Essay example
As the 19th century came to a close a new epoch, known as the Progressive Era emerged in response
to industrialization. This early 20th century reform movement pursued control of the government to
the people. In order to reinstate economic opportunities and to correct inequity in American life.
Progressives believed that government could be used as a powerful tool for social improvement
(Gillon, Matson 2009). Although the Progressive ideal was presented by numerous Progressive
authors of different genre, together they all presented the impact of the economic, political, social, and
moral reforms of the American Society. The Progressive authors were arranged by challenges of

Author Charles A. Beards wrote Economic Interpretation of the constitution (1913). Beard intended to
expose that greed and self interest, not divine inspiration, had inclined the creation of the constitution
(Gillon, Matson 2009). The Progressive legal thinker, Oliver Wendell Holmes was appointed to the
Supreme Court in 1903. Holmes along with Louis D. Brandeis anticipated transferring the law into a
vehicle for change. Holmes authored Common Law (1881), in which he argued that, the life of the law
has not been logic; it s been experience (Gillon, Matson 752). The religious challenger Walter
Rauschenbush was the leading advocator of a new Social Gospel. Rauschenbush wrote Christianity
and the Social Crisis (1907), and Christianity and Social Order (1915), arguing that people ought to
work towards creation of the Kingdom of God on Earth. Due to the contributions of Rauschenbush,
and fellow collaborator Charles Sheldon many groups emerged promoting the Christian social
responsibility to an industrial society. The Salvation Army became the most prominent group, arising
in many cities by the early 20th century. The 20,000 privates in the Salvation Army provided food,
employment, and day care centers to the urban poor (Gillon, Matson 2009). The Muckrakers emerged
as powerful authors throughout the Progressive Era. The term muckrakers was what Theodore
Roosevelt identified as the new journalist, after the Man with the Muckrake in

Food In Korean Food
A few days ago, a friend invited me and a five other people over to her house, as her parents wanted to
cook us a home cooked meal. The dining table had a total of six chairs, including the host s. I noticed
that the spacing between the chairs were relatively of close distance, showing how Meals identify
social boundaries surrounding familiarity with people, and these are articulated around ideas of people
s intimacy and distance (Crowther 161). An elaborate plate of food was set out for each guest, as her
parents had cooked us steak with roasted potatoes, grilled asparagus, corn, a piece of bread, as well as
a dish of cream spaghetti. There was also sparkling water and regular water to drink along with the
meal. For all of the guests, this meal was especially enjoyable because we were all students dorming
in college, so we had not eaten a home cooked meal in a long time. This can be reconnected to the
topic of commensality, as The sharing of food reinforces ties, forges new memories, and allows people
to reflect on the importance of eating together (Crowther 151).
In Korean culture, it is respectable for the guests to help set the table with the necessary utensils, as it
also shows the parents that we are appreciative of the meal. Right as the plate of food was set on the
table, everyone began to take out their phones, waiting to capture pictures of the food. As all the
guests were females, it was interesting to see how social media is involved, even in the ordinary

John Irving s Rip Van Winkle
Rip Van Winkle was inspired by German legends the general plot of the story was a man who

story a nagging wife, dogs, gun, ghost, liquor and long graybeards. The story starts before the
American Revolution when King George s ruling the colonies, Irving explains that Rip was a pretty
good men he is friendly and people in town tend to like him if someone needs an extra hand Rip was
always ready to lend one . The quote The appearance of Rip, with his long grizzled beard, his rusty

They were free to govern their own course of development, however some of them had their own
identity in this new country. During that time the new born America has no history and tradition while
Europe has a great one assembled for thousands of years. In order to solve this problem, Irving
borrows an old European story to make it take place in America. This story related to the Dutch
colonists. The quote On the other side he looked down into the deep mountain glen, wild, lonely, and
shagged, the bottom filled with fragments from the impending cliffs, and scarily lighted by the
reflected rays of the setting sun. (Norton Anthology American Literature, page 33). He describes the
mountains that will glow and light up like a crown of glory Rip Van Winkle only to show that America
has formed its own identity, no one can cut its connection with Europe. When America was still under
arbitrary of the British rule, some people still cannot cut the blood relationship with Europe.
Therefore, the American identity was unable to see by their relationship with Europe since then.
Rip wan Winkle was a great man. He would love to help people in the community. After being asleep
for twenty years and due to the drinking habit he had no chance to engaged in the social and political
change in the country. I think that when he stop sleeping and woke up he found that America has won

St. John s Marriage Proposal Essay
When Jane ran away from Rochester she found herself in the care of St. John Rivers. He helps her
when she needs it most. With his help Jane finds a job and gets back on her feet. Eventually St. John
asked her to marry him and work with him in a missionary India. She refuses much to his surprise.
After which she made her way back to Rochester so that she could be happy. The relationship between
St. John and Jane is one that is cold and full of principle. Jane refuses to marry St. John because she
would be trapped inside herself. She would never be able to express her true passion. With that much
independence she loses the freedom to do so. Many women at the time would have found St. Johns
proposal a fantastic opportunity. The ability to be a better help to society then just being a housewife is
appealing to many. It only gets better that St. John is handsome and ambitious. Although he seems like
a cold blooded man It still didn t change the fact that he offered purpose and in some cases happiness.
With his blonde hair and blue eyes, most women would follow him to the ends of the earth. That is
exactly what he is asking his future wife to do. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Pornography Consumption And Sexual Behaviors As Correlates...
The article I chose to review is Pornography consumption and sexual behaviors as correlates of erotic
dreams and nocturnal emissions. The author of this interesting article is Calvin Kai Ching Yu of Hong
Kong Shue Yan University, North Point, Hong Kong. The document type is a journal article and it was
published by Educational Publishing Foundation in October of 2012. The type of study that was done
for this article was empirical study and quantitative study. The study presented here was geared toward
exploring the degree to which the frequencies of sex and wet dreams are modulated by sexual
behaviors during wakefulness, including viewing pornography. The study examined the degree to
which erotic or wet dreams are modulated y sexual behaviors and the use of pornography in your
waking life. Since it had been noted that erotic dreams are much more prevalent in men than in
woman and it was going to be much harder to factor in both genders data into the analysis of sex
dreams, he only used male participants for this study. The real purpose of this article and study was to
see I pornography, sexual fantasy, erotic dreams, and masturbation had any significant effect on sexual
behaviors awake or sleep. To do so Yu had to put together some kind of method to test a group of men
on, in order to find out the answer to his question at hand. Yu did find some earlier studies that were
done by Schredl and King. These studies suggested that sexual content of dreams did in some way

U.s. Government Budget Deficit And Debt
There are many original and ingenious opinions and analysis related to a topic on U.S. government
budget deficit and government obligations and liabilities. As a result of the economic circumstances
and current consequences of budget deficit in the United States there have been many controversial
hypotheses of what future may bring to the American people. Therefore, I would like to face deeply
inquire in to of how our countries government deficit and outstanding debt will affect its citizens and I
also assume there are new challenges taking place as the consequence of rising government debt.
To provide evidence to the current U.S. government budget deficit and government external debt
situation we should take a closer look at the government budget deficit, national and personal debt in
the country. First, I am going to start with a definition of U.S government deficit: It is essentially the
difference between what the U.S government spends in any fiscal year and the revenues it takes in.
Any time the spending exceeds the revenues, the federal government runs a deficit. As many may
already know the United States must increase its revenue or reduce expenses during the next decade in
order to farther debt and loss of creditability in the world financial markets. There are several ways to
balance the U.S government without giving up the nation s increase of collective productivity and
growing economy. Government can reduce expenditures by finding more cost

Byzantine Empire Religion
Byzantine The important thing about the Byzantine Empire is that it prospered for another 1000 years
after the fall of Rome. The Roman Empire was split into the Byzantine Empire(East Roman Empire)
by Diocletian to make it easier to rule the huge territory. The Emperor Constantine moved the capital
to Constantinople, a city where many trade routes pass through. As a result, Constantinople was a rich
and prosperous city and so was the empire. Emperor Justinian made a set of laws for all in the empire
to follow called the Justinian Code. It covered almost every topic such as robberies, marriage, wills,
and etcetera. Later in 1054, the Great Schism occurred splitting Christianity into the Roman Catholic
Church and the Eastern Orthodox Church which was used in the Byzantine Empire. But the important
thing about the Byzantine Empire is that it prospered for another 1000 years after the fall of Rome.

Similarities Between Reservation Blues And Huckleberry Finn
Twain wrote his novel after the Civil War in 1865 during the Reconstruction Era. His novel is about a
young boy named Huckleberry Finn who flees from home and drifts along the Mississippi River; it
takes place in the 1840s. On the other hand, Alexie s novel is a story of a cluster of Native Americans
who create a band; they call themselves Coyote Springs. Alexie s literary work introduces many
events that occurred in the nineteenth century near the Mississippi River, much like Twain s novel.
Because the novels introduce or take place in American features, the novels are known as American
literature. The novels inaugurate certain themes that relate to American aspects as well. Both Twain s
nineteenth century classic American novel The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and Sherman Alexie s
1995 novel Reservation Blues are distinctly American because of the way they are driven by theme.
Twain s novel is clearly American literature because of the protagonists traditions and regulations.
Huck lives among a community with cruel and absurd tasks. Huck s guardians teach him Christian
merit and manners. Huck narrates, The Widow Douglas she took me for her son, and allowed she
would sivilize me (1). The two sisters take Huck as a son and teach him religious beliefs and
American culture. Although Huck does not like being religious, he still has a beneficial idea of
American religion and culture overall. After Huck leaves his home, he surrounds himself with a more

Essay on Fierce Rebellion by Stephen B. Oates
Fierce Rebellion by Stephen B. Oates The book Fires of Jubilee: Nat Turner s Fierce Rebellion (New
York, Ny: Harper Perennial, 1990) by Stephen B. Oates portrays a slave rebellion and uprising in the
1830 s. Oates has written many books on American history and his style of writing makes his books
readable and popular. He has become a unique storyteller of his time, in his book he tells of a
transformation that changed the city of South Hampton, Virginia forever, an unspeakable action heard
throughout the whole nation and insurrection. What is an insurrection? It is a rebellion, revolution,

His extensive educational career has made him a well rounded writer. In his book on Nat s
insurrection, Oates gives the impression of history being told by a storyteller. His style of writing
seems appropriate for students who are at the college level. He occasionally uses the word n gg r to
emphasize the contempt under which Nat Tuner labored, or the word darkie to indicate how even the
best of whites spoke patronizingly of blacks slaves. These usages place the reader in the era of the
1830 s. In the beginning of the book, Oates puts the reader at ease with the community and the state of
Virginia. Oates conveys an informed picture of the point of views and political opinions of the day.
The reader can understand Governor Floyd s attitude and that of the idealist s upstate. Oates
vocabulary level is somewhat advanced, but not so much that the reader could not understand the
story. Oates clearly describes the South Hampton County community of the 1830 s from nearby
neighbors who had freed their slaves to different churches who encouraged masters to emancipate
their slaves. Opinions of whites testifying to Nat s intelligence and to his familiarity with the Bible,
indicate many aspects of an unfair and inhumane situation: So it was a rude awakening for Nat, just as
it was for many other slave children who passed through that traumatic time: the first anguished
recognition that I am a slave. For Nat it was an especially painful time, for he had been

The Pros And Cons Of Hollywood Actors
Hollywood actors are seen as glamorous and admired by many. The conditions we see now are of
flamboyant actresses/actors with demands of: special drinking water; room decor; scented candles;
special food; and the list goes on and on. If these demands are not met you hear of temper tantrums
and refusals to stay at hotels and other establishments ever again. The salaries of top actors and
actresses are posted on the internet and magazines for all to see. A list actors can make tens of
millions, per movie and series actors bring in tens of thousands to a million, per episode. With this
information our there for all to see, you would assume there would be no need for unions, in
Hollywood. After all, unions are best known for their work in factories, where blue collar workers
request better pay, secure jobs, and benefits (O.C. Ferrell, G.A. Hirt L. Ferrell, 2014). Hollywood has
not always been so glamorous, and in fact less than a century ago working conditions were not as they
are today. Actors/actresses could be bound by a contract for one studio. The studio owned the artists
and other studios would not work with an actor, after their contracts had dissolved (Ferrell et al., 2014
p. 320). This made it hard to debate any issues with the studios. Actors in the early 20th century faced
long work days, low pay, and unsafe working environments. The Actors Equity Association was

The Pros And Cons Of The 15th Amendment
The three Civil war amendments, the 13th, 14th, and 15th, were intended to restructure the United
States from a country that was half slave and half free to one in which the entire populace was
guaranteed blessings of liberty including former slaves and their descendants. That was the intention
at least. They attempt to grant equality to all those born or naturalized in the United States, but
through certain states continued discriminatory policies and laws, and the lack of enforcement at the
federal level to limit states power, the full promise of each Amendment were resisted for almost a
century, and still has not yet been fully realized. The 13th Amendment was more successful than the
other two with its goal of ending slavery within the United States. But some cite sharecropping as a
continuation of black servitude under white masters. Moreover, many argue the prison system s
inmate labor is a modern form of slavery. The fact that the amendment itself places punishment for
crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted as the only unprohibited form of slavery and
the disproportionately higher number of convicted African Americans contributed to this view. Many
soon realized that one Amendment was not enough to protect the rights of freed slaves, due to the
passing of Black Codes, so congress soon ratified the 14th and 15th Amendments. The 15th
Amendment prohibits voting discrimination based on race or former slave status, but not any other

Trail Builder Personal Statement
After obtaining a degree in Human Dimensions of Natural Resources, I plan on working as a trail
builder for the United States Forest Service (USFS) or a state parks department. Once I have gained
sufficient experience in the field, I plan on moving on from my job as a trail builder to start my own
trail design firm.
Throughout childhood and adolescence, I was lucky enough to spend much of my free time using trail
systems that were close to my neighborhood. These experiences shaped my environmental ethic and
formed a bond between my natural surroundings and myself. At times of turmoil I always knew that I
could set out on a trail and find peace in the solitude of the trail. Using trail systems also sparked my

thereby reducing silt pollution of stream and rivers. I believe that education is the key to overcoming
the major problems facing our species such as hunger, overpopulation, and gender and racial equality,
but I have come to terms with the fact that my skill set is not best suited for teaching. However, I am

Dietetics Personal Statement
Personal Statement
I am seeking a dietetic internship at California State University Fresno, to continue my journey in
dietetics. At first, obtaining a college education meant more than just assuring a better future but
breaking the chain in a long line of poverty and illiteracy. As my mother was a single parent and
immigrant to the United States with less than a first grade education, her desire to have a better life for
me has always been present. Being a first generation Mexican American and the first in my family to
graduate college, I consider myself privileged to have the opportunities my parents never had.
Although, I did not know it at the time, my journey in dietetics started after high school. I was
fortunate at such a young age to work in a convalescent home as a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA).
While caring for the residents, I discovered an innate need to care for others. I gained as much from
them as they did from me. As a CNA, I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Food Pantry is a ministry program of the Wesley Foundation, which offers a bag of groceries once a

How to Invest in a Racehorse
Legendary thoroughbred racehorse trainer and Australian Racing Hall of Fame member, David Hayes
once said, Buying a horse is like buying venture capital stock. The pay offs will be better than the
incremental returns you might experience playing the stock market.
For centuries, horse racing was a sport only played by the rich. It became extremely popular among
the members of the royalty and the aristocracy that horse racing, or thoroughbred racing, was branded
as the Sport of Kings . But that was then.
Today, becoming an owner of a racehorse is not only limited to the people who move in elevated
social circles. Anyone who wants to own a thoroughbred racehorse has the opportunity to make
his/her dreams come true.
Investing in a Racehorse
People who invest in horseracing is in for the game; they love the sport, the horses, the excitement,
and the rush of adrenalin every time their favourite bets win the game.
If you chose to invest in the horse racing industry and become part of its lifestyle, one thing that you
need to remember is that horse racing is a sport. It can also be a very profitable investment, but it is a
risky business that is not for the faint hearted. It is a gamble, so you need to be ready for the
consequences, whether it s good or bad.
Once you buy a racehorse and join the thrilling world of horseracing, you ll have to face two different
outcomes: one, you ll end up making a fortune or two, you ll end up losing a huge amount of money in

Sugary Drinks In Children And Adolescents
Sugary beverages are drinks that provide energy by containing large amounts of added sugars but are
overall unhealthy and provide no healthy nutrients. Soft Drinks, fruit drinks, cordials, sports drinks,
energy drinks and vitamin waters all fall under the category of sugary sweetened beverages. Nine to
ten teaspoons of sugar can be typically found in a 12 ounce can of a sugary drink. This can add up to
150 or more calories. Across the world more and more people are becoming obese. Of this obese
population, the children and adolescents are especially concerning. Zheng and O Leary state that in

Ways that health advocates are attacking the accessibility factor include state and local bans on SSBs
in schools. Guidelines would also limit the availability of SSBs in meetings and events. An example of
this kind of legislation is in New York. In 2012 it was proposed that all SSBs sold must be in a
container no larger than 16 ounces in food service establishments. To attack the affordability factor of
SSBs, the most common plan is to add a tax on all SSBs. So far no city or state has passed a tax large
enough to considerably change the demand for these beverages. A large tax has not yet been passed
because of the uncertainty of how it will affect the health of the economy. Taxing SSBs may have
unforeseen consequences in that they may to switch to other, untaxed, calorie dense food and

Expert Author Robert D Hawkins
It has been over 15 years now since I first started using and studying the applications for herbal and
homeopathic medicine. It wasn t that I was against conventional medicine (and still am not). It was
more a blend of curiosity, necessity, and safety, with a dash of family influence thrown in for good
measure that drove me in the direction of natural herbal and homeopathic health.
I always thought that over time practitioners of western medicine would eventually see the advantages
of herbal and homeopathic medicine while becoming more aware of the risks involved with
pharmaceutical medications. These realizations would in turn lead to more moderate approach to
prescription pharmaceuticals and open the door for a handful of proven herbal and homeopathic
remedies.
But I fear that the pendulum is swinging in the other direction with those practicing medicine, with an
emphasis on treating disease with pharmaceutical drugs, becoming even more resistant to the idea. It
is hard to know exactly why

Calculating The Collision Diameter And Viscosity Of A Gas
Calculating the Collision Diameter and Viscosity of a Gas by
Measuring Pressure Over Time as the Gas is Evacuated from a Cell
Michelle Plavnik
Department of Chemistry, Emory University, Atlanta, GA, 30322, United States
PAGE 2
ABSTRACT: The aim of this experiment was calculating the values of viscosity and collision
diameter for nitrogen gas, argon gas, and dry air. This objective was carried out by filling a glass bulb
to a pressure of about 700 Torr with the desired gas and letting it evacuate the bulb through a capillary
over a ten minute period. The pressure was recorded every five seconds. The inverse pressure was
graphed against time, and a linear regression along with a least squares were performed. The slope of
the line of best fit was used to calculate the capillary radius, which was then used to calculate the
viscosities of the gases, which were used to calculate the collision diameters. The experimental values
were compared to the literature values by percent difference, and it was found that this technique is
not effective. Percent errors ranged from 0% to 30%. To make the values more accurate, the
assumptions made in calculations need to be the same for all values. To take the experiment further it
could be performed at other pressures, temperatures, and on other gases. Understanding properties like
collision diameter and viscosity of gases are important in fields such as gas phase reaction dynamics.
Introduction Gas phase reaction dynamics is an

Larkin Two Trees
How do Don Paterson and Phillip Larkin try to capture a message about life in their poems Two Trees
and The Trees?
In the two poems, Two Trees by Don Paterson and The Trees by Phillip Larkin, the poems explore life
and death through their seemingly black and white poems. In Two Trees , Paterson explores the
themes of creativity and perception while Larkin ponders the illusions of life and how things are
perceived. The messages in their poems can be seen in their contrasting uses of symbolism, imagery,
rhyme and metre, and structural form.
The two poems both make use of symbolism to convey their message to the reader. Two Trees shows
this through wordplay such as rooted in his head . Here the word rooted both means that he has an idea

Two Trees has a linear structure, in chronological order, to convey how easy it is to see things in
different lights. Likewise, the poem has a very strong connection to the number two, particularly due
to the rhyme and metre, but it also has two stanzas, each one showing a different point of view on the
trees and the dream that had them graft ed together. The poem also contains many enjambments,
which, like thoughts, continue onto the next line. In Don Miguel s stanza, they are carefree, like his
thoughts, but The Man s are more impartial, as if he couldn t care at all. The Man s stanza also seems
to speed up, with the enjambments rushing the stanza, almost as if, like him, the poem is hasty and
thoughtless, and rushes into things. Contrastingly, The Trees by Philip Larkin has a circular structure,
returning to the beginning each stanza and it also returns to the beginning of the poem at the end. It
mirrors itself, starting with life, then death, and ending with life. However, throughout it is becoming
softer; there are more vowels at the beginning, which makes the beginning sound harsher. Overall,
both poems use structure to express a message, but the overriding similarity is both poems ability to
mirror themselves in different

Within any company, managers must be reminded that the focus of a layoff is not on the actual
individual being released, but rather on the position itself. The layoff decision is made based on the
needs of the company and the position. If the individual is not fulfilling the position or if the position
is no longer necessary, the company must make the decision to let the person go. With this
perspective, managers can prevent as many negative emotions as possible and it will additionally
affect the communication between the manager and employee being laid off. When the employee is
reminded of the true purpose of the decision, they will accept the decision more easily than if he or

Included in the benefits package offered to the employee is the option for the single lump sum, which
pays the employee the full amount of their layoff benefits in one lump sum. However, it would not
include any relevant cost of living adjustments. The employee would receive it within 30 days of
being laid off.
Three Ways the Layoff May Affect the Company
Even if a layoff is completed successfully and with little resistance, there are possible negative effects
in which the decision can have on the company. These include:
* Decrease trust among valuable employees
* Hidden costs, such as severance packages, may cause the layoff to be ineffective
* Workplace morale may decrease
Companies are oftentimes hasty to undergo layoffs as they feel they are eliminating their ineffective
employees and building an environment full of strong and effective employees. However, this does
not guarantee that the valuable employees will remain loyal to the company and it is important that
managers do not depend too much on these employees. Layoffs can also decrease trust among the
valuable employees as they may worry that they too could be

Tradition, Traditions And Traditions Of Indian Hindu Weddings
An Indian Hindu wedding is strictly observed according to the ancient cultural norms laid down in the
Vedas in the Indian society a wedding is not just the coming together of two people rather two souls.
In fact, a wedding also brings two families closer, which thereafter share a bond of respect and
affection. As a result there are a number of traditions and customs associated with the Indian Hindu
wedding ceremony.
TRADITIONS
I will now elaborate more on the different Indian traditions related to an Indian Hindu wedding.
Kanyadaan is a ritual, which apart from being vital to the ceremony, tugs at the emotional cord of the
prides of the parents.
Mangalsuta it is basically a black and gold beaded necklace with a gold/diamond pendent. It carries
immense importance in Hindu weddings as well as in the lives of Hindu married women.
Wedding Barat one of the most fun filled traditions in the entire wedding ceremony. Basically the

an ecosystem is a thriving of biotic and abiotic features in a region that interact with each other. or
simply, an ecosystem is where animals and plants live in harmony with their surroundings. for a while
now there have been issues with the care given to ecosystems and the ways in which countries deal
with threats to them. we hear about the extinction of many a kind of fauna and flora and how their
absence disorientates the equilibrium in many ecosystems and at the same time we also know about
people and organizations that strive to help build and maintain them. in the following we shall look at
how one can juggle focusing on the building of an ecosystem and sustaining the local population, how
nations worldwide are contributing to the welfare of forests and the ways in which induviguals can
give to the growth of an ecosystem. Global Perspective: apart from maintaining order, settling
conflicts and providing its people with resources a government must see to it that its local ecosystem
is maintained. this comes with its own set of benifits as tourism expands, the variaty of resources
increase, the job pool broardens and sometimes natural calamities can be avoided. . In 1972 the United

Analyzing the Fiscal Budget of the City of Ukiah and...
Introduction
This paper will analyse the 2013/14 Fiscal budgets the City of Ukiah and California City. I will
attempt to examine the similarities and differences of both these cites revenue and expenditure line
items in their budgets. The cities are similar in that they generate revenue from many of the same
resources and they have similar expenditures in their annual fiscal budget. However, the cities budgets
strategies are different because both these cities demographics, social, economic, political platform,
and historical characteristics guide both cities elected official s decisions during the budget process.
History
California City was incorporated on December 8, 1965 (City of California, 2013). Before the City was
incorporated, it was transformed from a vast area of natural desert and farmland open space, into a
new kind of living environment. In 1776, the first explorers in the City of California were Paiute
Indians under leadership of Father Francisco Grarces. During this time, the Conquistadores are
believed to have hired Paiute Indians to help conduct mining operations in the territory.
At the end of the century, sheep farming began at the Conklin Ranch, and today, this ranch is located
in the central portion of the City. Later, in the 1900s, the city was ineffective in its attempt to
manufacture cotton and grow alfalfa. In 1958, private land development activities begun when a group
of developers started purchasing land in the eastern portion of the city. By the

This segment should be given priority after the contemporary segment because the two have
commonalities that can be marketed on the Oasis to deliver value which would satisfy their social
needs individually. The luxury and destinations segments are similar in that both of them target the
upper class or those with healthy disposable incomes including retirees that are at a stage in their
lifecycle allowing them to take longer, exclusive cruises often. People on these cruises demand the
finest quality in all respects. A formal atmosphere with refined white glove service, along with
personalized service accounts for value and satisfaction. Psychologically, these users are above all and
deserve the best of the best. Therefore, their lifestyles allow them to be regular and heavy users of
cruise vacations. Based on their preference, it can be assumed that these segments are hard core or
split loyal to the brands they choose because their attitudes are very enthusiastic towards the type of
experience they expect and may be hostile towards anything less. The type of ship is small for both
segments, representing the small percentage of the market occupied. Therefore, little priority should
be placed on targeting these segments. Users that decide to buy this cruise package will be for the sole

  • 2. Critical Analysis of Giorgio Agamben Essays In, Life That Does Not Deserve to Live, Giorgio Agamben aims to expand on Michel Foucault s concepts of biopower and biopolitics , to express the way in which the state has power over society in the way that bare life is produced. He uses the Latin term homo sacer literally translated to sacred man to describe a life which can be eliminated without punishment , one that possesses no value to the state and therefore can be terminated without the act being considered a crime. Examples of this can be seen in people who experience brain death and subsequently have their life support machine switched off, and in people in prison camps such as Guantanamo Bay. However, the biggest example we are given of bare life, is in the Jewish ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, Agamben s thesis that the camp can be used as a paradigm for the line that every society sets between bare life and political existence is in itself an important argument. However, he only concentrates on the separation of the two, rather than expanding his argument to illustrate the divisions that are clearly prevalent within each group. Agamben also uses the biopolitics of the Nazi regime to draw a parallel to liberal, democratic societies in the sense that it shows that all societies have the same line in which, when crossed, one becomes homo sacer. This is the state of exception , the point in which the sovereign decides, Which life may be killed without the commission of a homicide . Agamben leads the argument for the state of exception onto one regarding euthanasia. This can be seen as the sovereign uses the state of exception to deem brain dead people as bare life . They possess no economic merit to the state and so their life is devoid of value . The sovereign as a person, who holds the power to decide whether a person is bios or zoe , falls to people who preside over the health of the individual, he/she can be a doctor, a psychiatrist, and a jurist . As these represent the affluent class of society, this shows that biopower is inevitably connected to economic worth. The Nazi regime, according to Agamben, is the first instance in which politics and medicine have ever ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Charles Lindbergh Embodiment of the American Dream The 1920 s are well known for social movements ranging from women s rights and racial equality to fashion and art. One could even go so far as to say that the decade embodied the American Dream. America, as a whole, stepped forward. The first nonstop solo flight from Long Island to Paris, France was one such display of social advancement in this decade. However, it wasn t an easy road to get there. Modern technology such as the Concorde Jet or any modern vehicle was not available at the time. The first affordable vehicle was invented in the 1920 s, signaling the start of a new age of technology and mechanics, an art in its own right. With technology advancing, aviation began to rise in popularity. Many records were made and broken, including Amelia Earhart s flight across the Atlantic, the altitude flight record and the highest recorded speed. But before all that, another record was made. On May 20, 1927, Charles Lindbergh set off from New York to Paris, France. He would be the first solo flyer to successfully complete the journey. Rising from obscurity to follow his dreams while doing what he loved, Charles A Lindbergh embodied the American Dream as much as the 1920 s did. Charles Augustus Lindbergh was born in Detroit, Michigan on February 4, 1907 to Charles Augustus Lindbergh and Evangeline Lodge Land. His family was from Minnesota, where he grew up. As a child, he frequently visited his father in Washington, D.C., as his father served in the U.S. Congress. But even ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The 1984 Sikh riots also known as the Sikh Massacre or the genocide of Sikhs, started after the murder of Indira Gandhi, the Prime Minister of India by her own two Sikh bodyguards. The reason behind this was to take the revenge from Mrs. Gandhi as it was her decision to have an attack on the Golden Temple, one of the biggest holy place of the Sikh community. Her order was named as Operation Blue Star, motivated to take out terrorists who had blocked off themselves inside the temple. (Kundu 2017). Before the Nanavati Commission, DP Gulati belongs to Hindu religion confirmed that the crowd outside the hospital was controlled by Arjun Das (Congress party councillor). From October 31, evidences and police records revealed that violence against Sikhs did not result into any deaths and was just normal violence that was only limited to the zone where the body of Indira Gandhi was kept. The Ruling Congress party organized a careful plan and put it into action with their local followers to kill the Sikhs of Delhi on the night of 31st October and early morning of 1st November. Congress leaders held assemblies with the purpose of rallying local supporters to start the massacre against the Sikhs. It is also revealed that massacre of Sikhs did not start the day of the murder of Prime Minister. Congress leaders cleverly assembled a network of planned gangs for rallies and those same people were responsible for the Sikh riots, according to Rajni Kothari. The attacks on Sikhs was pre planned and the Congress party was to use state s resources to simplify the massacre. Delhi Transportation corporation buses were used to take ... This early 20th century reform movement pursued control of the government to the people. In order to reinstate economic opportunities and to correct inequity in American life. Progressives believed that government could be used as a powerful tool for social improvement (Gillon, Matson 2009). • 7. Food In Korean Food A few days ago, a friend invited me and a five other people over to her house, as her parents wanted to cook us a home cooked meal. The dining table had a total of six chairs, including the host s. I noticed that the spacing between the chairs were relatively of close distance, showing how Meals identify social boundaries surrounding familiarity with people, and these are articulated around ideas of people s intimacy and distance (Crowther 161). An elaborate plate of food was set out for each guest, as her parents had cooked us steak with roasted potatoes, grilled asparagus, corn, a piece of bread, as well as a dish of cream spaghetti. There was also sparkling water and regular water to drink along with the meal. For all of the guests, this meal was especially enjoyable because we were all students dorming in college, so we had not eaten a home cooked meal in a long time. This can be reconnected to the topic of commensality, as The sharing of food reinforces ties, forges new memories, and allows people to reflect on the importance of eating together (Crowther 151). In Korean culture, it is respectable for the guests to help set the table with the necessary utensils, as it also shows the parents that we are appreciative of the meal. Right as the plate of food was set on the table, everyone began to take out their phones, waiting to capture pictures of the food. The author of this interesting article is Calvin Kai Ching Yu of Hong Kong Shue Yan University, North Point, Hong Kong. The study examined the degree to which erotic or wet dreams are modulated y sexual behaviors and the use of pornography in your waking life. Since it had been noted that erotic dreams are much more prevalent in men than in woman and it was going to be much harder to factor in both genders data into the analysis of sex dreams, he only used male participants for this study. • 11. U.s. Government Budget Deficit And Debt There are many original and ingenious opinions and analysis related to a topic on U.S. government budget deficit and government obligations and liabilities. As a result of the economic circumstances and current consequences of budget deficit in the United States there have been many controversial hypotheses of what future may bring to the American people. Therefore, I would like to face deeply inquire in to of how our countries government deficit and outstanding debt will affect its citizens and I also assume there are new challenges taking place as the consequence of rising government debt. To provide evidence to the current U.S. government budget deficit and government external debt situation we should take a closer look at the government budget deficit, national and personal debt in the country. First, I am going to start with a definition of U.S government deficit: It is essentially the difference between what the U.S government spends in any fiscal year and the revenues it takes in. Any time the spending exceeds the revenues, the federal government runs a deficit. As many may already know the United States must increase its revenue or reduce expenses during the next decade in order to farther debt and loss of creditability in the world financial markets. The Roman Empire was split into the Byzantine Empire(East Roman Empire) by Diocletian to make it easier to rule the huge territory. The Emperor Constantine moved the capital to Constantinople, a city where many trade routes pass through. As a result, Constantinople was a rich and prosperous city and so was the empire. Emperor Justinian made a set of laws for all in the empire to follow called the Justinian Code. It covered almost every topic such as robberies, marriage, wills, and etcetera. • 13. Similarities Between Reservation Blues And Huckleberry Finn Twain wrote his novel after the Civil War in 1865 during the Reconstruction Era. His novel is about a young boy named Huckleberry Finn who flees from home and drifts along the Mississippi River; it takes place in the 1840s. On the other hand, Alexie s novel is a story of a cluster of Native Americans who create a band; they call themselves Coyote Springs. Alexie s literary work introduces many events that occurred in the nineteenth century near the Mississippi River, much like Twain s novel. Because the novels introduce or take place in American features, the novels are known as American literature. The novels inaugurate certain themes that relate to American aspects as well. Both Twain s nineteenth century classic American novel The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and Sherman Alexie s 1995 novel Reservation Blues are distinctly American because of the way they are driven by theme. Twain s novel is clearly American literature because of the protagonists traditions and regulations. Huck lives among a community with cruel and absurd tasks. Huck s guardians teach him Christian merit and manners. Huck narrates, The Widow Douglas she took me for her son, and allowed she would sivilize me (1). Oates The book Fires of Jubilee: Nat Turner s Fierce Rebellion (New York, Ny: Harper Perennial, 1990) by Stephen B. Oates portrays a slave rebellion and uprising in the 1830 s. Oates has written many books on American history and his style of writing makes his books readable and popular. He has become a unique storyteller of his time, in his book he tells of a transformation that changed the city of South Hampton, Virginia forever, an unspeakable action heard throughout the whole nation and insurrection. What is an insurrection? It is a rebellion, revolution, mutiny and uprising, a concept that has never lost hope in African American slaves. Born in Pampa, Texas, Stephen B. Oates has been known ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His extensive educational career has made him a well rounded writer. In his book on Nat s insurrection, Oates gives the impression of history being told by a storyteller. His style of writing seems appropriate for students who are at the college level. He occasionally uses the word n gg r to emphasize the contempt under which Nat Tuner labored, or the word darkie to indicate how even the best of whites spoke patronizingly of blacks slaves. These usages place the reader in the era of the 1830 s. In the beginning of the book, Oates puts the reader at ease with the community and the state of Virginia. Oates conveys an informed picture of the point of views and political opinions of the day. The reader can understand Governor Floyd s attitude and that of the idealist s upstate. Oates vocabulary level is somewhat advanced, but not so much that the reader could not understand the story. Oates clearly describes the South Hampton County community of the 1830 s from nearby neighbors who had freed their slaves to different churches who encouraged masters to emancipate their slaves. Opinions of whites testifying to Nat s intelligence and to his familiarity with the Bible, indicate many aspects of an unfair and inhumane situation: So it was a rude awakening for Nat, just as it was for many other slave children who passed through that traumatic time: the first anguished recognition that I am a slave. If these demands are not met you hear of temper tantrums and refusals to stay at hotels and other establishments ever again. The salaries of top actors and actresses are posted on the internet and magazines for all to see. A list actors can make tens of millions, per movie and series actors bring in tens of thousands to a million, per episode. With this information our there for all to see, you would assume there would be no need for unions, in Hollywood. After all, unions are best known for their work in factories, where blue collar workers request better pay, secure jobs, and benefits (O.C. Ferrell, G.A. Hirt L. Ferrell, 2014). Hollywood has not always been so glamorous, and in fact less than a century ago working conditions were not as they are today. Actors/actresses could be bound by a contract for one studio. The studio owned the artists and other studios would not work with an actor, after their contracts had dissolved (Ferrell et al., 2014 p. 320). This made it hard to debate any issues with the studios. Actors in the early 20th century faced long work days, low pay, and unsafe working environments. • 18. The Pros And Cons Of The 15th Amendment The three Civil war amendments, the 13th, 14th, and 15th, were intended to restructure the United States from a country that was half slave and half free to one in which the entire populace was guaranteed blessings of liberty including former slaves and their descendants. That was the intention at least. They attempt to grant equality to all those born or naturalized in the United States, but through certain states continued discriminatory policies and laws, and the lack of enforcement at the federal level to limit states power, the full promise of each Amendment were resisted for almost a century, and still has not yet been fully realized. The 13th Amendment was more successful than the other two with its goal of ending slavery within the United States. But some cite sharecropping as a continuation of black servitude under white masters. Moreover, many argue the prison system s inmate labor is a modern form of slavery. The fact that the amendment itself places punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted as the only unprohibited form of slavery and the disproportionately higher number of convicted African Americans contributed to this view. Many soon realized that one Amendment was not enough to protect the rights of freed slaves, due to the passing of Black Codes, so congress soon ratified the 14th and 15th Amendments. The 15th Amendment prohibits voting discrimination based on race or former slave status, but not any other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It was more a blend of curiosity, necessity, and safety, with a dash of family influence thrown in for good measure that drove me in the direction of natural herbal and homeopathic health. I always thought that over time practitioners of western medicine would eventually see the advantages of herbal and homeopathic medicine while becoming more aware of the risks involved with pharmaceutical medications. These realizations would in turn lead to more moderate approach to prescription pharmaceuticals and open the door for a handful of proven herbal and homeopathic remedies. Calculating The Collision Diameter And Viscosity Of A Gas Calculating the Collision Diameter and Viscosity of a Gas by Measuring Pressure Over Time as the Gas is Evacuated from a Cell Michelle Plavnik Department of Chemistry, Emory University, Atlanta, GA, 30322, United States PAGE 2 ABSTRACT: The aim of this experiment was calculating the values of viscosity and collision diameter for nitrogen gas, argon gas, and dry air. This objective was carried out by filling a glass bulb to a pressure of about 700 Torr with the desired gas and letting it evacuate the bulb through a capillary over a ten minute period. The pressure was recorded every five seconds. The inverse pressure was graphed against time, and a linear regression along with a least squares were performed. The slope of the line of best fit was used to calculate the capillary radius, which was then used to calculate the viscosities of the gases, which were used to calculate the collision diameters. The experimental values were compared to the literature values by percent difference, and it was found that this technique is not effective. Percent errors ranged from 0% to 30%. To make the values more accurate, the assumptions made in calculations need to be the same for all values. To take the experiment further it could be performed at other pressures, temperatures, and on other gases. Understanding properties like collision diameter and viscosity of gases are important in fields such as gas phase reaction dynamics. Introduction Gas phase reaction dynamics is an ... In the two poems, Two Trees by Don Paterson and The Trees by Phillip Larkin, the poems explore life and death through their seemingly black and white poems. In Two Trees , Paterson explores the themes of creativity and perception while Larkin ponders the illusions of life and how things are perceived. The messages in their poems can be seen in their contrasting uses of symbolism, imagery, rhyme and metre, and structural form. Two Trees has a linear structure, in chronological order, to convey how easy it is to see things in different lights. Likewise, the poem has a very strong connection to the number two, particularly due to the rhyme and metre, but it also has two stanzas, each one showing a different point of view on the trees and the dream that had them graft ed together. The poem also contains many enjambments, which, like thoughts, continue onto the next line. In Don Miguel s stanza, they are carefree, like his thoughts, but The Man s are more impartial, as if he couldn t care at all. The Man s stanza also seems to speed up, with the enjambments rushing the stanza, almost as if, like him, the poem is hasty and thoughtless, and rushes into things. Contrastingly, The Trees by Philip Larkin has a circular structure, returning to the beginning each stanza and it also returns to the beginning of the poem at the end. It mirrors itself, starting with life, then death, and ending with life. However, throughout it is becoming softer; there are more vowels at the beginning, which makes the beginning sound harsher.
