artworks? Why? Response: My favorite piece of art that s been displayed, or at least talked about so
far, this semester has got to be the little berserker chess pieces from the Germanic Tribes lecture.
While not necessarily a primary piece of art, the small sculptures represent the tribe of Viking warriors
that fought fearlessly. In detail, the depictions of the berserkers show them wielding swords and
shields as if they always stood ready to battle. Then to add to the appeal, the berserkers in the chess set
are biting on their shields as if they were wild animals. I imagine this group of Vikings looking very
intimidating and using the wild and fearless personas to strike fear into their enemies. Another
interesting fact worth mentioning is that the term going berserk came from the descriptions of this
tribe. Being described as bear warriors, the berserkers were often seen going into these fits of fury
while out on the battlefield. Some literature even states that the bear warriors would be seen foaming
at the mouth and, as depicted in the chess pieces, biting on the rims of their shields. They would attack
anything in their path without discriminating between ally or opposition. After the fit of rage ended,
the individual would be almost catatonic and feeble. Tales proclaim that they would be in this state for

Abstract:
Thermal analysis data is used to determine the mechanism of decomposition, reaction energetics, and
gas evolution of a material, specifically calcium silicate, also called limestone. Based on the basic
rules of thermodynamics, a hypothesis can be formed that, as limestone is heated, it decomposes into
calcium oxide and carbon dioxide due to heat transfer and the creation of impurities. The addition of
silicon oxide, or quartz, can also cause limestone to decompose in the same manner. This was tested
using experiments including Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), Mass Spectrometry (MS), and

Unlike pressure, temperature is a simple variable to alter. This is why it is preferred when analyzing
controlled reaction rates, such as heat transfer. An increase in temperature causes certain materials,

oxide and carbon dioxide. As it decomposes, calcium oxide will be formed into a solid and carbon
dioxide will be released as a gas. The calcined powder will retain its darker color, but would otherwise
look similar to the initial limestone. Decomposition is a reaction to the impurities caused by the

In the novel Wiseblood, by Flannery O Connor, one finds an unpleasant, almost antagonistic view of
sexuality. The author seems to regard sex as an evil, and harps on this theme throughout the novel.
Each sexual incident which occurs in the novel is tainted with grotesquem. Different levels of the
darker side of sexuality are exposed, from perversion to flagrant displays of nudity. It serves to give

When I was five years old my parents got a divorce. My father was abusive towards me on many

education system that we have today, two primary influences are the American common school
movement and the Latin grammar school movement. Common schools were first started in the 1830 s
and 1840 s and consisted of a universal curriculum with multiple types of schools. They were also

and were used as secondary education to prepare young men for college. While both schools have
