Growing Population In Uk Essay
Briefing Note for The Minister: Report on the issues caused by the growing population of Deer within
the UK
The occupants of Great Britain are well accustomed to the species of deer often sighted around its
country sides and nature reserves. However, increasing numbers are causing great strains on parks and
causing an alarming rate of injuries to people and even fatalities due to road accidents involving deer.
In the coming years the number of accidents is expected to exceed the over 30,000 recorded in 2006 in
Great Britain (Pokorny, 2006). The Red Deer (Cervus elaphus) and Roe Deer (Capreolus capreolus)
populations are increasing in number, as well as increasing their distribution throughout the UK
(PostReport, 2009). In addition to these two native species, there are a further four species of deer that
had been introduced to private parks in the UK in the past. The Sika, Muntjac and Chinese water deer
have made the UK their home for the past 150 years, as well as the Fallow Deer which has been
around much longer. The growing populations of deer are affecting the biodiversity, ecology (Fuller
Gill, 2001) and economy within the surrounding areas. Human health and safety, as well as the
animals own welfare is also at risk. I encourage The Minister to heed this information regarding the
current issues this country has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Conflicts and accidents between road vehicles and deer are unfortunately not uncommon. A five year
survey, from 2000 2005, collected 30,500 reports of deer/ vehicle collisions, which resulted in 1100
human injuries and 20 fatalities. The survey also highlighted that the number of reported incidents are
actually likely to be less in than the actual number of deer vehicle collisions (Langbein, 2007), as
many incidents go unreported. These types of incidents are on the increase in Britain and on a global
scale (Putmam,

Are Gender Roles A Social Construct Essay
I am a strong believer that gender roles are a social construct. However, gender identity is not.
Therefore, it is very important to know the difference. Gender roles are defined as theoretical
constructs involving of social and behavioral norms that are widely considered to be socially
appropriate for individuals of a specific sex. The perception of gender roles includes attitudes, actions,
and personality traits associated with a particular gender within that culture. Gender roles are
predominantly considered within a family context as well as within society in general . I believe that
gender roles and gender expression are social constructs. There is almost nothing that is intrinsically
male or female and merely things that are coded as male or female by the culture we live ... Show

A woman is no less a woman when she possesses traditionally masculine qualities and a man is no less
a man when he possesses traditionally feminine qualities. Gender roles are outdated in modern society
and only cast a negative light on those who don t adhere to them. They no longer hold ground in our
society. Household chores are not gendered. There is no reason to believe that they are, just because a
certain group of people of one gender have been forced to occupy those roles for years, it doesn t
mean the activity is or should be gendered. Women are not better at household things and men are not
better at non household things. Everyone needs to learn to do what they need to do to survive. If
someone has a skill that does not stereotypically conform to their gender, they should be able to use
that skill without feeling like society is against them. Why let a useful skill go to waste? It is true that
gender roles are not always bad or oppressive even though they still are expectations and obligations

Its executives called the decision a transformational moment in the history of broadcasting and in
effect, launching five shows. [32] Conversely, industry executives criticized the network for
abandoning a history of airing quality dramas at that hour, and that it would hurt NBC by undermining
a reputation built on successful scripted shows.[34] In January 2010, however, NBC would end up
announcing that Leno s 10 pm show would be canceled, citing complaints from many affiliates, whose
local newscasts significantly dropped in the ratings as a result of the change.[35] Zucker attempted to
move and shorten The Jay Leno Show to the 11:35 pm 12:05 am time slot and move the existing

My beloved daughter Magdalene,
I was overjoyed to recieve your letter. I hope you maintain your good grade and take very good care of
your sister, Meredith. I miss your charming personality and smile that would bright up a room. I could
use one of your hugs right about now. The infirmary isnt exaclty the most cheerfull place. Usually i
would be filling sandbags right about now because we rotate responsibilities between the frontlines
and the fields. Our lives on the frontlines are horrendous. There are not enough words to describe how
terrible the frontline trenches truly are. There are thousands of mice , not like the ones you would see

We waited to receive the orders from the lieutenant, but in my head i was already saying my prayers.
He had told us to retrace our steps. I ran with everything I had in me, the proper duckboard made it
somewhat easier to run but didn t take away from the fact that i was running with about 50kg of
ammunition with me. We ran and arunned until we found the sap, while lieutenant provided shelter

me going through the barbed wire, I cut my eye. Within seconds it was swollen shut and I thought I
was in a dream. Maybe all of this was just a nightmare. I was later told i was suffering from extreme
blood loss. Soon i felt something pull me i honestly thought i was being taken for german prisoner.
But i heard a familiar voice. It was the lieutenant telling me to wake up. With whatever strength i had
left and the help of the lieutenant,i staggered across no man s land And made it to our trenches were i

Delegating Application Essay
Delegating is a personality trait that comes in handy when cooperating with others. Consequently, by
holding this trait, it is clear to understand that a few tasks require additional opinions than just one in
order to be executed. In addition, it is also used while problem solving, at times when it is required to
be open minded with everyone s points of views. As I grow up, I aspire to maintain the characteristic
of being a delegator, as well as maintain a balance throughout the responsibilities that I take. On the
other hand, there are a variety of people prefer to not keep their tasks organized, working with these
people can be almost impossible to succeed with, and can lead to calamities. This assignment was
possibly my most difficult to complete, not due to the task itself, but by cause of it being a month long
project that was to be completed by three people, which I ended up doing myself. The day that I was

Elizabeth Takes The Reins Analysis
In the passage, Elizabeth Takes the Reins, by Dorothy Canfield Fisher, the author has the main
character, Elizabeth Ann, presented in a sympathetic way. First, Fisher tries to make the reader feel
bad for Elizabeth Ann. Second, the author shows that she feels bad for Elizabeth Ann. Lastly, she uses
strong words to emphasize Elizabeth Ann s troubles. You can imagine... the dreadful terror of
Elizabeth Ann (1). Fisher tries to put the reader in Elizabeth s shoes and feel the fear. By doing this,
Fisher adds a mood of pity. Instead of making fun of Elizabeth for being afraid, Fisher instead wants
the reader to be afraid with her. This shows that Fisher is sympathetic to the plight of Elizabeth. Fisher
also shows that she feels bad for Elizabeth

The Feminist Movement Within The Twenty First Century
The manifestation of the feminist movement within the twenty first century has been the result of a
variety of factors. The feminist movement embodies a global phenomenon that recognizes the
independence of a strong female figure that is able to contribute equally to society. These protections
are necessary because millions of women throughout the world live in conditions of abject deprivation
of, and attacks against, their fundamental human rights for no other reason than that they are women.
Despite recurring women s human rights violations throughout history, a whisper of change is stirring,
the belief that everyone deserves to have equal rights, and equal protection under the law is starting to
attract popular attention. For instance, ever so slightly gender roles are adapting to recognize that
women s roles have changed dramatically. Mothers can no longer be classified as carers or
homemakers and fathers solely as providers. As women continue to push for equality around the world
it becomes clear that various issues still present a significant obstacle that prevents true gender
equality to exist. For instance, Australian popular culture depicts a fairly masculine image, this image
has helped condition various gender stereotypes that have been cemented into the cultures social and
behavioural mentality. Until recently, it has seemed that Australian popular culture has seemingly
ostracized the feminine persona. However, acknowledging several global and domestic

larger which is a societal gap. A societal gap can cause a negative affect in society which effects all
races and cultures. This societal gap can all be caused because of the genetic modification of children.

Strawberries and Grandma?! Anna jumped out of the bed, quickly dressing.
(Page 2: Scene of Momma and Anna at the kitchen table with strawberry covered biscuits on their

Good morning, Sunshine, Momma said, as Anna took a seat in front of a hot biscuit covered in
strawberries. How many buckets of strawberries are we picking today? Anna asked.
We picking three gallons for us and see how many Grandma needs, Momma replied. Momma and
Anna finished their breakfast and headed for the car.

Grandma! Anna exclaimed when she saw her great grandmother gathering berry buckets at the u

Here s you a bucket to pick strawberries in, one for me and one for your Mother. We d better get
started before it gets too hot.
I m ready! beamed Anna.
(Page 4: Scene...the three are picking strawberries in a row of strawberries)
Grandma, Momma and Anna walked to the flag that signaled where to begin picking in the long row

These sure are nice big berries, mused Grandma.
They taste good too, said Anna as she bit into one.
They are a lot bigger than when I was your age, Anna
(Page 5: Scene loading crates of berries onto train cars)
You had strawberries when you were a little girl?! Considered, Anna.
Why, yes! We did have strawberries when I was a girl. In fact, we picked strawberries for the trains,
Grandma answered.
The trains? Anna was puzz1ed, Why would trains need strawberries? Anna inquired.
Everyone grew a patch of strawberries and would hire people to he1p pick them to take to market.
We had to work fast and gentle so as not to bruise the berries and get them to the broker as quick as
we could after picking so that they could get to the consumer while they were still good.

that are real. The Other Wes Moore, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, and Eyes Wide Open bring
up important topics, such as life choices, ethics, and climate change. They are all true and introduce
crucial issues that are very relevant to present day. The Other Wes Moore uniquely brings up the
theme of how two people who have similar backgrounds could end up having completely different

A Critical Pathway Development For Ventilator Dependent...
Communication is a tool that nurse leaders should master in order to send information, perception and
understanding to achieve work activities and goals. Effective communication involves frequent, clear,
and direct messaging of thoughts and ideas. The three elements leaders should include in creating and
enhancing effective communication are trust, respect, and empathy. For this paper I will discuss some
of the issues found in chapter seven s critical thinking exercise. Nurse Olivia Whitt, who is in charge
of an interdisciplinary team, faces several issues regarding communicating with the organization s
physicians about a critical pathway development for ventilator dependent patients, the dietician who
wants to integrate dietary protocols for the pathway and a home health care representative who at the
moment is too involved with accreditation issues.
As the leader, it is Olivia s responsibility to manage this interdisciplinary team as they work to
develop a critical pathway for these patients who have multiple complex needs. The main problem in
this exercise is for Olivia to find a way to effectively communicate to all members of this team in an
effort to provide these patients with the best possible care. Because this issue effects the care
coordination of these debilitated patients, this problem belongs to everyone involved in the decision
making group as well as the organization itself. However, since Olivia manages the team, it s her duty
to work to solve these

Concussions In The National Football League
From what I ve researched and what I ve experienced, I don t think it s worth the risk ( Chris Borland
). This quotation from former San Francisco 49er, Chris Borland, exemplifies the concern for the
increase in occurrence of concussions in the National Football League. A concussion is defined as a
type of traumatic brain injury caused by a blow to the head ( NFL Concussions ). The debate on who
is truly responsible for the injury s increasing presence in the NFL continues to be disputed in the
league today. Whether the blame is to be placed on the administrative personnel of the league or the
players and their actions, change is the one common denominator in the stances taken by both sides.
The National Football League is not doing enough ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fact that a use of a more efficient test for diagnoses of the injury has not been implemented into
the league s concussion protocol provides support for this argument. Improper education of the true
amount of risk involved that will affect a player in the long term displays the carelessness of the
league s front office. Almost every athlete that remains connected to the NFL has a family that relies
on them for income and support. By discerning the safety of its very own employees, of which the
league would cease to exist without, the NFL is putting the lives and welfare of the players and their
families at risk. Money must become a secondary concern when one is dealing with a person s safety
on the football field. The league cannot continue to put the lives of its employees at risk in order to
avoid money loss. The National Football League is not doing enough to prevent concussions from
continually occurring in the league today and a change in policy is mandatory in order to provide a
safe environment for its players. Nothing matters more than a person s

Leadership Coaching: Convergence
Spiritual Life Coaching
When we look at the role of coaching and how it speaks to a person s spiritual life we first must
understand the definition of coaching. Whitmore (2001) quoted Gallwey s definition of coaching as
Coaching is unlocking a person s potential to maximize their own performance. It is helping them to
learn rather than teaching them (p. 8). There are several definitions of coaching that attempts to
pinpoint or identify the various types of coaching. Harkavy (2007) shared what the purpose of a coach
is, Your purpose as a coaching leader is to add the most value to the people you lead and to help them
improve (p. 4). This definition of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Those with the right attitude will embrace their role as a positive reinforce and they will strive to help
others see themselves as God sees them. The coach will build up, strengthen and encourage the client
with the love of Christ as they provide professional coaching. Crane amp; Patrick (2005), suggested
Coaching requires the very best from all aspects of our humanity. It is not a path for the weak hearted
or for people who are afraid to grow. It is a path for the courageous and for people who are committed
to making a difference in the lives of those they touch through coaching (p. 217). The spiritual aspect
of coaching as it relates to this previous quote is that we must be willing to be like the eagle as shared
in Isaiah 40:3, But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with
wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint. The effective coach
must be willing to stay in for the long haul, when things are not moving as quickly as you would like.
O Neill shared that there may be times when what you are coaching and what the direction of the
company may lose its clarity or maybe the coachee has lost focus. O Neill (2000), stated, May leaders
try to suppress ambiguity, rather than acknowledge it, even to themselves (p.26). The best way to

Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation
The subject of Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES) in the treatment of dysphagia triggers
much controversy within the field of speech language pathology. The argument created between
professionals with opposing views is mainly due to a lack of sufficient empirical evidence that NMES
either improves or decreases swallow function. Currently, studies examining the outcome of NMES
application are not of high quality and often yield inconclusive results. Despite limited evidence based
support, many clinicians incorporate NMES into dysphagia treatment plans in a variety of clinical
cases. This is problematic as the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA) has
promoted evidence based practice as an integral component of clinical decision making in recent years
(ASHA 2005). To better understand the debate surrounding NMES and its implementation, several
aspects of this treatment modality must be considered. While NMES in the treatment of dysphagia is a
relatively new clinical practice, NMES itself is not. In physical and occupational therapy, electrical
stimulation of the trunk and limbs has been a successful and well documented component of
rehabilitation (Clark, Lazarus, Arvedson, Schooling, Frymark 2009). However, generalizing the
possible benefits of NMES across disciplines to the swallowing mechanism is difficult because the
oral, pharyngeal, and laryngeal systems are unique in structure and function. Regardless of these
apparent differences, Defabrizio

The Species Corvus Corax
The species Corvus corax is well known and recognized as one of the smartest animals in the world.
Many studies have been conducted in investigating sophistication of its cognitive processes in recent
years. A good number of them support this withstanding belief of high intelligence. Others reveal gaps
in factors of their intelligence that were not previously presumed.. Pfuhl (2012), Schied Bugnyar
(2008) and Boeckle Bugnayr (2012) studies show very proficient spatial reasoning and memory in
ravens. On the contrary, other studies like Scholegl et al. (2008) and Albiach Serrano et al. (2012)
display a lack of aptitude in factors like understanding context and patterns compared to other
cognitively gifted animals. Although even with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the recent decades, this theory of high intelligence has gone under much research and
experimentation to intent to establish the extent of corvid cognition. Multiple studies have been
conductive on Corvus corax examining its cognitive abilities. They have related these abilities to the
species phenology and evolution along with other cognitively gifted animals, such as apes (van Horik
et al. 2012). While the belief of high intelligence remains relatively true for certain cognitive aspects
such as spatial reasoning and memory, these corvids prove less competent in the areas like contextual
understanding and problem solving with patterns.
Literature Review
Well Developed Cognitive Processes Reasoning. Spatial reasoning plays into the concept of
intelligence and it aids to the survival of organisms. It is useful to know one s orientation in the world
and being able to draw inferences from another object s or organisms orientation. In a 2012 study
conducted by Gerit Pfuhl, ravens were tested in their spatial and causal reasoning based on pulling a
set of strings. The major factor of this was which of the strings they decided to pull. The procedure
was to attach meat and/or a weighted object (i.e., a small block of wood) to strings, alternating the

The Epidemic Of South Africa
At the height of the most recent Ebola epidemic in West Africa, fear amongst American citizens about
the possibility of a more local outbreak resulted in representatives being pressured into creating harsh
policies. One option that representatives of several states endorsed was a mandatory quarantine of all
individuals arriving from Ebola stricken countries. This policy was implemented despite severe
criticism from several medical professional organizations including Mèdecins Sans Frontières
(Doctors without Borders), the American Medical Association, the Infectious Diseases Society of
America, and the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (Park,

This fear was indicative of national health agencies and representatives failure to communicate the
low risk of transmission. Ebola is only communicable through direct contact with bodily fluids after a
person has begun to display symptoms, the first of which is often a fever ( Ethics and Ebola: Public
Health Planning and Response , 14 15). However, even at the start of symptom expression, people are
unlikely to transmit the disease; virion count is so low during the first couple days after the onset of
fever that the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test for Ebola often returns false negatives during this
period (Drazen 1). Thomas Eric Duncan, the first case of Ebola diagnosed on US soil, is a prime
example of the virus s low transmission rate at the onset of symptoms. His family, whom he lived in
close quarters with for several days while symptomatic, never contracted the disease, whereas the
nurses caring for him towards the end of his life when his virion count was high, did. Moreover, the
level of the health infrastructure and equipment that is available in the United States is drastically
better staffed, trained, and equipped than in West Africa. When a patient begins exhibiting symptoms
here, they can be quickly isolated, which was not possible in Liberia. The lack of any public health

The New Science of Pseudoscience
Nineteenth century America was a tumultuous place, marred by war and suffering the growing pains
of both westward expansion and industrialization. The intellectual world was equally turbulent, as a
great battle of ideas challenged the foundation and morality of the institution of slavery. Pro slavery
advocates had to find new ways of justifying their beliefs in order to provide a different perspective
from which to view slavery, other than an economic standpoint. Southern society began to idealize
science as an indisputable vehicle of objective truth. The rapid advancement of scientific knowledge
lent scientists a halo, as they could claim neutrality and objectiveness. A scientist s word was law and
deemed worthy of imitation. Because of the belief that scientists were unbiased and impartial when
conducting research, scientists in the South attempted to legitimize pro slavery arguments by
providing pseudoscientific evidence proving the superiority of whites and the inability of blacks to be
self sufficient as freedmen. Dr. Samuel George Morton, a famous physician and researcher in natural
history, provided the South with flawed anthropological evidence in order to bolster the anti
abolitionist case. His universal acclaim for devotion to objective data allowed for his research to
become popular and widespread throughout the United States, especially the South. Dr. Morton s
study was based on his measurements of human crania. His collection of skulls was the largest in

Michael Jordan Identity Crisis Essay
I never thought I would have something in common with Michael Jordan that is until I was cut from
the high school basketball team. It may not seem significant to most people but to someone who lived,
breathed, and loved the sport for eight years, it was detrimental. Identity crisis does not even begin to
describe what I faced after this defeat. Friends, teachers, and classmates alike frequently inquired how
the team was doing, expecting me to be a part of it. As the days passed, self confidence plummeted
and embarrassment was recurrent. I found myself pondering Why did something like this have to

Why do I want to be a member of Alpha Phi Alpha? The question was asked, why do I want to be a

myself to be a servant leader by creating opportunities for others. As a child, I grew up in a
challenging environment but through my faith in God, many of my bad decisions were turned around

Theodore Dalrymple is an English writer and retired prison doctor and psychiatrist. Daniel in his
writings has frequently argued that the liberal and progressive views prevalent within Western
intellectual circles minimize the responsibility of individuals for their own actions and undermine
mores which are traditional, contributing to the formation within rich countries of an underclass which
is afflicted by violence, sexually transmitted diseases, criminality, welfare dependency and drug abuse.
His writings are generally based on his experience of working with criminals and the mentally ill.

The quiet heroism of those concerts and recitals were a potent symbol of the human achievement
emanated from the fact that Myra was a Jewish and played music from the same land as the enemy s
leader who represented barbarism. No one questioned those concerts and its relevance when the world
was ablaze but they understood the defiant gesture of humanity and culture in the face of
unprecedented brutality, and provide a subtle noble message. The story of Dalrymple s horrified

human refinement, wherein the piano not only represented the Liberia s culture but also an idea of
civilization, in itself an obvious coarseness of the gesture of contempt. The reaction of two young

The Role Of Nudity In The Rolling Stone Magazine
The narrative in the world and America especially, is constantly changing and the line between
appropriate and inappropriate seems to be constantly shifting. The cover image of Julia Louis Dreyfus
in the Rolling Stone magazine is a prime example, of how the use of nudity in the cover reveals the
twisted narrative in American society and entertainment. To have a comprehensive understanding of
the cover and what it signifies, background knowledge on the publishers and the person on the cover

It is now so deeply integrated in our society that a piece of entertainment loses its value when nudity is
not present in some form. With all this nudity floating around, one may ask what role does it play in
displaying the message of the image. Nudity itself is a challenging ideology to our society, the line
between appropriate vs inappropriate and acceptable versis unacceptable have seem to grow thin. The
act of nudity can represent a multitude of ideology before being nude was seen as sacred and the act of
being seen nude especially in public was forbidden. But as the narrative has evolved overtime being
nude is now correlated to being free and open minded. Being nude in our society is expressing
yourself in a manner that you deem acceptable, that we shouldn t lot be limited to what society deems
appropriate. It is actually a very selfish narrative where everything revolves around the person and his
or her personal goals.Marita Sturkin and Lisa Cartwright hit on the ideology of individual in the
Practices of Looking, One could say that ideology is the means by which certain values, such as
individual freedom, progress, and the importance of home, are made to seem like natural, inevitable
aspects of everyday life (Sturkin Cartwright 21). This kind of egocentric narrative is present in the
Rolling Stone cover when dissected fully, and it shows how the narrative in America is more like me,
me, me instead of us, us, us. Even though nudity is now somewhat encouraged by our entertainment,
there are still levels to nudity. In most cases when a woman is presented nude she is usually presented
in a way that is not too exposing, just as Julia Dreyfus is doing in the cover. This is due to the fact that
there is still a

Hippocrates was a doctor who changed the world with his ideas. He is the father of modern medicine.
and is responsible for our modern day health treatment. He changed the idea of where diseases come

start off Hippocrates came up with the idea of where modern medicine comes from. The passage states
He was the first to trace disease to a natural and understandable cause, and to recognize nature as all
sufficient for healing, and physicians as her only servant. I think what the author means by this is that
he basically had the idea that all remedies didn t have to come from the supernatural but in fact they

Global Warming Warning Essay examples
Global Warming Warning
In 2007, the Arctic reached a 30 year low for sea ice (University of Colorado at Boulder). This is
because of global warming or what scientists refer to climate change. The issue with global warming
is that it has impactions for damage to future generations. Prevention of a global climate change
depends on early detection of human made effects on climate. The current views on global warming
are; those who do not think that the Earth is undergoing a climate change, others that believe the Earth
is going through a climate change due to humans, and some who believe that Earth is going through a
climate change but is not because of human activities. In order to understand global warming, we have

Using that methodology the air trapped in the ice can be tested to determine atmospheric gases in the
past. The speed in which temperature has increased over the last few decades is alarming compared to
the rate over the last century. Global surface temperature has increased 0.6 degrees Celsius in the past
thirty years, and 0.8 in the last century (Hansen 14288). The significant increase can be directly
related to the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. For the last 650,000 years, atmospheric
CO2 has never been above 300 parts per million (Hansen 14288). In 1950 CO2 parts per million were
at 280, today they are at 380. Direct observations indicate that CO2 is rising sharply due to human
activity (Cook). The main source of CO2 emissions is the burning of fossil fuels such as coal, oil and
gas in power plants, automobiles, and industrial facilities (United States Environmental Protection
Agency). It is most evident in the addition of automobiles on the road today. Motor vehicles have been
rising by 3.69 million each year since 1960. Currently there are over 255 million registered passenger
vehicles on the road today (U.S Department Of Transportation).
It is difficult to get people concerned about global warming because it is a problem of the future.

The Role Of Judges In The US Criminal Justice System
Namely, a judge is one of the influential career positions which carries prestigious recognition
throughout our nation for centuries. Typically, the average citizens are not able to accurately describe
what a judge s day to day responsibilities coincide. Nevertheless, usually, we see them striking the
podium with the gavel demanding the courtroom to remain under control and refereeing the verbal
sparring section prosecuting and defense attorneys are having to develop their cases in their favor.
However, judges have several other responsibilities behind the scenes, which serve an important
purpose in the US criminal justice system. According to the read and attend section in unit #4 judges
have duties that take place before and after trials. For example, they responsible for signing warrants,
setting and revoking bail and accepting guilty pleas (Bohm, R., Haley, K. n.d). In addition, they make

Persuasive Essay On Clean Coal
Coal is the dirtiest of all fossil fuels. When burned, it produces emissions that contribute to global
warming, create acid rain and pollute water. With all of the talk surrounding nuclear energy,
hydropower and biofuels, you might be forgiven for thinking that grimy coal is finally on its way out.
On the other hand, coal is no sooty remnant of the Industrial Revolution it generates half of the
electricity in the United States and will likely continue to do so as long as it s cheap and plentiful .
Clean coal technology seeks to reduce harsh environmental effects by using multiple technologies to
clean. Coal is a fossil fuel composed primarily of carbons and hydrocarbons. Its ingredients help make
plastics, tar and fertilizers. A coal derivative, a solidified carbon called coke, melts iron ore and
reduces it to create steel. But most coal 92 percent of the U.S. supply goes into power production
.Electric companies and businesses with power plants burn coal to make the steam that turns turbines
and generates electricity. When coal burns, it releases carbon dioxide and other emissions in flue gas,
the billowing clouds you see pouring out of smoke stacks. Some clean coal technologies purify the
coal before it burns. One type of coal preparation, coal washing, removes unwanted minerals by
mixing crushed coal with a liquid and allowing the impurities to separate and settle. Other systems
control the coal burn to minimize emissions of sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides and

  • 3. Growing Population In Uk Essay Briefing Note for The Minister: Report on the issues caused by the growing population of Deer within the UK The occupants of Great Britain are well accustomed to the species of deer often sighted around its country sides and nature reserves. However, increasing numbers are causing great strains on parks and causing an alarming rate of injuries to people and even fatalities due to road accidents involving deer. In the coming years the number of accidents is expected to exceed the over 30,000 recorded in 2006 in Great Britain (Pokorny, 2006). The Red Deer (Cervus elaphus) and Roe Deer (Capreolus capreolus) populations are increasing in number, as well as increasing their distribution throughout the UK (PostReport, 2009). In addition to these two native species, there are a further four species of deer that had been introduced to private parks in the UK in the past. The Sika, Muntjac and Chinese water deer have made the UK their home for the past 150 years, as well as the Fallow Deer which has been around much longer. The growing populations of deer are affecting the biodiversity, ecology (Fuller Gill, 2001) and economy within the surrounding areas. Human health and safety, as well as the animals own welfare is also at risk. I encourage The Minister to heed this information regarding the current issues this country has ... A five year survey, from 2000 2005, collected 30,500 reports of deer/ vehicle collisions, which resulted in 1100 human injuries and 20 fatalities. The survey also highlighted that the number of reported incidents are actually likely to be less in than the actual number of deer vehicle collisions (Langbein, 2007), as many incidents go unreported. • 4. Are Gender Roles A Social Construct Essay I am a strong believer that gender roles are a social construct. However, gender identity is not. Therefore, it is very important to know the difference. Gender roles are defined as theoretical constructs involving of social and behavioral norms that are widely considered to be socially appropriate for individuals of a specific sex. The perception of gender roles includes attitudes, actions, and personality traits associated with a particular gender within that culture. Gender roles are predominantly considered within a family context as well as within society in general . I believe that gender roles and gender expression are social constructs. There is almost nothing that is intrinsically male or female and merely things that are coded as male or female by the culture we live ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A woman is no less a woman when she possesses traditionally masculine qualities and a man is no less a man when he possesses traditionally feminine qualities. Gender roles are outdated in modern society and only cast a negative light on those who don t adhere to them. They no longer hold ground in our society. Household chores are not gendered. There is no reason to believe that they are, just because a certain group of people of one gender have been forced to occupy those roles for years, it doesn t mean the activity is or should be gendered. Women are not better at household things and men are not better at non household things. Everyone needs to learn to do what they need to do to survive. If someone has a skill that does not stereotypically conform to their gender, they should be able to use that skill without feeling like society is against them. Why let a useful skill go to waste? Its executives called the decision a transformational moment in the history of broadcasting and in effect, launching five shows. [32] Conversely, industry executives criticized the network for abandoning a history of airing quality dramas at that hour, and that it would hurt NBC by undermining a reputation built on successful scripted shows.[34] In January 2010, however, NBC would end up announcing that Leno s 10 pm show would be canceled, citing complaints from many affiliates, whose local newscasts significantly dropped in the ratings as a result of the change.[35] Zucker attempted to move and shorten The Jay Leno Show to the 11:35 pm 12:05 am time slot and move the existing shows, including The Tonight Show, back 30 minutes. This, however, caused considerable backlash, as O Brien had not been given any choice or prior notification of the move. • 6. Ww1 Informal Letter My beloved daughter Magdalene, I was overjoyed to recieve your letter. I hope you maintain your good grade and take very good care of your sister, Meredith. I miss your charming personality and smile that would bright up a room. I could use one of your hugs right about now. The infirmary isnt exaclty the most cheerfull place. Usually i would be filling sandbags right about now because we rotate responsibilities between the frontlines and the fields. Our lives on the frontlines are horrendous. There are not enough words to describe how terrible the frontline trenches truly are. I ran with everything I had in me, the proper duckboard made it somewhat easier to run but didn t take away from the fact that i was running with about 50kg of ammunition with me. We ran and arunned until we found the sap, while lieutenant provided shelter fire. We got out of the enemy trenches and crawled through the enemy s barbed wire. In the process of me going through the barbed wire, I cut my eye. Within seconds it was swollen shut and I thought I was in a dream. Maybe all of this was just a nightmare. I was later told i was suffering from extreme blood loss. Soon i felt something pull me i honestly thought i was being taken for german prisoner. But i heard a familiar voice. It was the lieutenant telling me to wake up. With whatever strength i had left and the help of the lieutenant,i staggered across no man s land And made it to our trenches were i was rushed to the infirmary. Not to soon after we arrived to safety, well as close to safety as we could have gotten the germans released fire on us. • 7. Delegating Application Essay Delegating is a personality trait that comes in handy when cooperating with others. Consequently, by holding this trait, it is clear to understand that a few tasks require additional opinions than just one in order to be executed. In addition, it is also used while problem solving, at times when it is required to be open minded with everyone s points of views. As I grow up, I aspire to maintain the characteristic of being a delegator, as well as maintain a balance throughout the responsibilities that I take. On the other hand, there are a variety of people prefer to not keep their tasks organized, working with these people can be almost impossible to succeed with, and can lead to calamities. This assignment was possibly my most difficult to complete, not due to the task itself, but by cause of it being a month long project that was to be completed by three people, which I ended up doing myself. At about six in the morning, I received a text back from both women explaining to me that they had not actually dropped the classes but that they had no time to complete their part on times, they were too tired to do anything. First, Fisher tries to make the reader feel bad for Elizabeth Ann. Second, the author shows that she feels bad for Elizabeth Ann. Lastly, she uses strong words to emphasize Elizabeth Ann s troubles. You can imagine... the dreadful terror of Elizabeth Ann (1). Fisher tries to put the reader in Elizabeth s shoes and feel the fear. By doing this, Fisher adds a mood of pity. • 9. The Feminist Movement Within The Twenty First Century The manifestation of the feminist movement within the twenty first century has been the result of a variety of factors. The feminist movement embodies a global phenomenon that recognizes the independence of a strong female figure that is able to contribute equally to society. These protections are necessary because millions of women throughout the world live in conditions of abject deprivation of, and attacks against, their fundamental human rights for no other reason than that they are women. Despite recurring women s human rights violations throughout history, a whisper of change is stirring, the belief that everyone deserves to have equal rights, and equal protection under the law is starting to attract popular attention. For instance, ever so slightly gender roles are adapting to recognize that women s roles have changed dramatically. Mothers can no longer be classified as carers or homemakers and fathers solely as providers. As women continue to push for equality around the world it becomes clear that various issues still present a significant obstacle that prevents true gender equality to exist. For instance, Australian popular culture depicts a fairly masculine image, this image has helped condition various gender stereotypes that have been cemented into the cultures social and behavioural mentality. Until recently, it has seemed that Australian popular culture has seemingly ostracized the feminine persona. However, acknowledging several global and domestic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Strawberries and Grandma?! Anna jumped out of the bed, quickly dressing. • 14. A Critical Pathway Development For Ventilator Dependent... Communication is a tool that nurse leaders should master in order to send information, perception and understanding to achieve work activities and goals. Effective communication involves frequent, clear, and direct messaging of thoughts and ideas. The three elements leaders should include in creating and enhancing effective communication are trust, respect, and empathy. For this paper I will discuss some of the issues found in chapter seven s critical thinking exercise. Nurse Olivia Whitt, who is in charge of an interdisciplinary team, faces several issues regarding communicating with the organization s physicians about a critical pathway development for ventilator dependent patients, the dietician who wants to integrate dietary protocols for the pathway and a home health care representative who at the moment is too involved with accreditation issues. As the leader, it is Olivia s responsibility to manage this interdisciplinary team as they work to develop a critical pathway for these patients who have multiple complex needs. The main problem in this exercise is for Olivia to find a way to effectively communicate to all members of this team in an effort to provide these patients with the best possible care. Because this issue effects the care coordination of these debilitated patients, this problem belongs to everyone involved in the decision making group as well as the organization itself. However, since Olivia manages the team, it s her duty to work to solve these ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This quotation from former San Francisco 49er, Chris Borland, exemplifies the concern for the increase in occurrence of concussions in the National Football League. A concussion is defined as a type of traumatic brain injury caused by a blow to the head ( NFL Concussions ). The debate on who is truly responsible for the injury s increasing presence in the NFL continues to be disputed in the league today. Whether the blame is to be placed on the administrative personnel of the league or the players and their actions, change is the one common denominator in the stances taken by both sides. The fact that a use of a more efficient test for diagnoses of the injury has not been implemented into the league s concussion protocol provides support for this argument. Improper education of the true amount of risk involved that will affect a player in the long term displays the carelessness of the league s front office. Almost every athlete that remains connected to the NFL has a family that relies on them for income and support. By discerning the safety of its very own employees, of which the league would cease to exist without, the NFL is putting the lives and welfare of the players and their families at risk. Money must become a secondary concern when one is dealing with a person s safety on the football field. The league cannot continue to put the lives of its employees at risk in order to avoid money loss. The National Football League is not doing enough to prevent concussions from continually occurring in the league today and a change in policy is mandatory in order to provide a safe environment for its players. Coaching Diane Stevenson Regent University LDRC 502 Leadership Coaching: Convergence Spiritual Life Coaching When we look at the role of coaching and how it speaks to a person s spiritual life we first must understand the definition of coaching. Whitmore (2001) quoted Gallwey s definition of coaching as Coaching is unlocking a person s potential to maximize their own performance. It is helping them to learn rather than teaching them (p. 8). There are several definitions of coaching that attempts to pinpoint or identify the various types of coaching. It is a path for the courageous and for people who are committed to making a difference in the lives of those they touch through coaching (p. 217). The spiritual aspect of coaching as it relates to this previous quote is that we must be willing to be like the eagle as shared in Isaiah 40:3, But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint. The effective coach must be willing to stay in for the long haul, when things are not moving as quickly as you would like. O Neill shared that there may be times when what you are coaching and what the direction of the company may lose its clarity or maybe the coachee has lost focus. • 18. Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation The subject of Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES) in the treatment of dysphagia triggers much controversy within the field of speech language pathology. The argument created between professionals with opposing views is mainly due to a lack of sufficient empirical evidence that NMES either improves or decreases swallow function. Currently, studies examining the outcome of NMES application are not of high quality and often yield inconclusive results. Despite limited evidence based support, many clinicians incorporate NMES into dysphagia treatment plans in a variety of clinical cases. This is problematic as the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA) has promoted evidence based practice as an integral component of clinical decision making in recent years (ASHA 2005). To better understand the debate surrounding NMES and its implementation, several aspects of this treatment modality must be considered. While NMES in the treatment of dysphagia is a relatively new clinical practice, NMES itself is not. In physical and occupational therapy, electrical stimulation of the trunk and limbs has been a successful and well documented component of rehabilitation (Clark, Lazarus, Arvedson, Schooling, Frymark 2009). However, generalizing the possible benefits of NMES across disciplines to the swallowing mechanism is difficult because the oral, pharyngeal, and laryngeal systems are unique in structure and function. Ebola is only communicable through direct contact with bodily fluids after a person has begun to display symptoms, the first of which is often a fever ( Ethics and Ebola: Public Health Planning and Response , 14 15). However, even at the start of symptom expression, people are unlikely to transmit the disease; virion count is so low during the first couple days after the onset of fever that the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test for Ebola often returns false negatives during this period (Drazen 1). Thomas Eric Duncan, the first case of Ebola diagnosed on US soil, is a prime example of the virus s low transmission rate at the onset of symptoms. His family, whom he lived in close quarters with for several days while symptomatic, never contracted the disease, whereas the nurses caring for him towards the end of his life when his virion count was high, did. The intellectual world was equally turbulent, as a great battle of ideas challenged the foundation and morality of the institution of slavery. Pro slavery advocates had to find new ways of justifying their beliefs in order to provide a different perspective from which to view slavery, other than an economic standpoint. Southern society began to idealize science as an indisputable vehicle of objective truth. The rapid advancement of scientific knowledge lent scientists a halo, as they could claim neutrality and objectiveness. A scientist s word was law and deemed worthy of imitation. Because of the belief that scientists were unbiased and impartial when conducting research, scientists in the South attempted to legitimize pro slavery arguments by providing pseudoscientific evidence proving the superiority of whites and the inability of blacks to be self sufficient as freedmen. Dr. Samuel George Morton, a famous physician and researcher in natural history, provided the South with flawed anthropological evidence in order to bolster the anti abolitionist case.
