Tsunami
There are many types of natural disaster that are quite deadly (earthquake, tornado, volcanic
eruption, etc.). Out of all natural disaster that ever occurs on earth, I believe that tsunami is by far
most interesting one out of all. The reason why tsunami is very interesting is because it can be
triggered by many causes (earthquake, volcanic eruption, underwater landslide, fall of a large mass,
etc.) On this research paper; I will explain what exactly is tsunami, the 2004 Sumatra tsunami, and
how to predict tsunami.
Tsunami (also known as tidal wave or seismic sea wave) is a series of waves created by the
displacement of water, unlike normal ocean waves which are created by ... Show more content on

Unfortunately, it is estimated that around 35,000 people have lost their lives and around
500,000 people have lost their homes in Sumatra (around 15000 died in India). The aftermath
report reported that around 190,000 people are dead with 40,000 to 45,000 either missing or
presumed dead. Even though billions of dollars of humanitarian aid have been used to help all
the effected region of the tsunami disaster, some areas still have not recovered from this disaster.
In 2011, an earthquake registered at the magnitude of 9.0 9.1 hit the coast of Tohoku Japan (it is
recorded to be the most powerful earthquake ever hit Japan). The earthquake caused a giant
tsunami waves with the highest waves measured at the heights of 133 feet. Despite of Japan s
precaution plan of Tsunami attack, the damage that the tsunami and earthquake did was very
severe. The tsunami walls that Japan created around the nuclear plant has no effect because it is
not a big as the tsunami waves thus resume the damage that the tsunami has set its eyes on;
multiple infrastructure damage, nuclear plant damage, and severe nuclear plant radiation leak. It
is estimated that around 15894 people are dead, 6152 are injured, and 2562 people are either
missing or presume dead. In 2015 September 16, an earthquake registered at the magnitude of 8.3
hit the offshore of IL lapel and Chile. The tsunami waves arrived on the coast

Individualism In The Great Gatsby
The 1920s were years marked with wild economic prosperity, cultural flowering and shaking up
of social values in America. The period is nostalgically remembered as the Boom, the Roaring
Twenties and for the sake of this paper; the Jazz Age. The Jazz Age was coined by Scott
Fitzgerald, who in this era reached the pinnacle of his writing career (Shmoop Editorial Team).
The 1925 publication of the Great Gatsby impeccably captured the era s dispositions and styles.
America had overcome the harrowing effects of the First World War and by all means, the nation
looked like the next Europe on the horizon. This tremendous inflow of wealth brought with it a new
morality which was less worried about the conventional values of the previous generations.... Show

This is a sharp contrast from the icy rigidity implied by the title. It s this contrast that Fitzgerald
uses throughout the book to examine the cultural differences between the Southerners and the
Northerners. On a deeper level, not only does the story depict the differences in outlooks and
lifestyles between the two, but it also tackles the varying mindsets of communities and human
values across the world. Fitzgerald uses imagery to illustrate this rift. While describing the
Southern town, the author compares the sun to paint. He says The sunlight dripped over the
house like golden paint over an art jar . Apart from people in the town appearing to be slow and
lazy, the whole town seems to be suffering from the effects of too much heat, ...even the shops
seemed only yawning in their doors and blinking their windows in the sunshine before retiring
into a state of utter and finite coma.. Sally s lover Harry Bellamy is irritated by their
shiftlessness and thus regarding them as degenerates . Sally defends her home town by reiterating
that They may be lazy anybody would be in that climate . This sense of non belonging that Harry
feels while in the South is magnified when Sally visits the North. Sally s friends are worried that
she is engaged to a Yankee . She says that, although she loves her friends, it s highly unlikely that
will remain in the sleepy town,

A Story From A Old Wedding Gown
After trying on a mysterious old wedding gown, a spirited, but insecure dressmaker is transported
to 1935 Wales, where she becomes the dressmaker for her great grandmother, and now she must
find her way back home.
STORY COMMENTS
MAGICALLY WED offers a delightful fantasy. The concept is solid. The scriptpresents as a fun
and classic fish out of water and coming of age story.
The idea of an insecure, but hopeful wedding dress designer from the present being transported
back in time to 1935 to become a dressmaker s assistant to her own great grandmother is a creative
and imaginative idea.
The plot is driven by strong themes about finding one s voice and believing in one s self. It s also
about connecting, reconnecting, and family values.
One of the highlights is the very likable protagonist, Ava. She s the type of character that s easy to
like and effortlessly root for. Through the course of her personal journey, she learns to grow up and
transforms into a mature woman. She also finds her own voice.
Ava is driven by her deep inner conflict to belong to a loving family.
While there s a lot to adore about this fun script, overall, the script would benefit from more
development, especially in the areas of structure, some plot choices, and dialogue.
First, the script has an identified three act structure. The first act sets up Ava s ordinary world. Her
aunt belittles her and she doesn t have the confidence to stand up for herself. She has a dream and
goal of going to a

The Issue Of Gender Roles
Introduction
In this paper I will discuss the issue of gender roles in marriage. I will be exploring the debated
question of: who should lead a marriage through decision making, direction, and preference.
Throughout the paper I will argue that a marriage is not centered on one figure and that it takes
two people to make everyday decisions that effect the direction of a marriage along with theological
gender roles in a marriage. Equal say and the establishment of roles in a marriage are crucial for a
long term, happy, and successful marriage. To have a successful marriage certain roles of men and
women must be me in order to produce a long and happy marriage.
This topic is very important to me because I grew up in a household where my ... Show more

I do think though that the roles we take on in a marriage somewhat effect the overall decisions that
each spouse makes.
Why Establish Gender Roles?
When two people join their lives together, how do they decide on a direction that they will lead
their marriage? What if the habits of one another are annoying or inconsistent with their own?
What if they have a difference in priorities? Marriages have indefinite answer to these questions.
In general counselors suggest couples should compromise or take turns in decision making role
of the relationship. This solution generally doesn t work. Many spouses end up saying, We
decided your way last time, thus leading to conflict. Often, there are also disputes on what is a
good compromise between the married couple. Similarly, consider how you would feel about this
radical situation: you decided on where to eat last night, now I am going to decide on what car we
should buy.
Both trading off and compromising might be useful in certain situations, but it is often found
problematic and has it flaws. Some decisions do not have compromising as an option. Suppose a
couple does not agree on where to live. If they compromise, they may end up living in an area
they both despise. In real life it is the more powerful partner is usually the one that gets the other
one to subdue to their overall ruling and authority. Partners of less power need to decide how much
they are willing to take.
It is important as Christians in

Mahatma Gandhi And Nelson Mandela
If Mahatma Gandhi never inspired Nelson Mandela to fulfill his vision for human rights, would
Nelson Mandela have inspired Barack Obama to continue that legacy? Mahatma Gandhi practiced
civil disobedience and lobbied for the rights of Indians in South Africa and India. Nelson Mandela
hungered and fought for a South Africa, where all races were equal and unified as nationalists.
Barack Obama sought to build a more tolerant United States through his historic presidency,
immigration policies, and equal rights for all people. Although these individuals faced severe
opposition, they persisted and enacted significant changes in human rights.
Gandhi took a stand for equal human rights and enacted change for Indians in South Africa and

For instance, In 1960 s Mandela got imprisoned till 1990...Gandhi got imprisoned multiple times
in South Africa and in India as well (Researchpedia Contrast of Mandela and Gandhi Paragraph
6). Gandhi and Mandela both were imprisoned for their acts of disobedience and did not back
down even while in prison. In summary, Gandhi directly experienced prejudice which set him on a
course for unifying his people and demanding change for India.
Like Gandhi before him, Nelson Mandela demanded a dramatic change in the treatment of his
people and was willing to suffer life long persecution and imprisonment to achieve it. Mandela
desired equal human rights be given to all South Africans, regardless of color, and enacted
change against the apartheid through political activism and becoming a symbol of defiance
during his twenty seven year imprisonment. Mandela s desire for equal rights in South Africa
fueled his quest for education and career in politics. For example, As he secured formal education,
Nelson Mandela became more outspoken for causes of the suppressed, eventually being expelled
from school for protesting...only to return later to complete his degree (Sarah Brooks Paragraph 1).
This shows that even while obtaining his degree, Mandela was actively trying to promote change in
South Africa. Mandela and other congressmen paid a high price for their

Implementation of SMT Concept in Intel Processor Essay
The main idea of this article is implementation of SMT concept in Intel processor which is based
on efficient use of limited amount of processor resources such that at OS and software level it is
seems just like multiple processors are running multiple processes. It is less costly and more
efficient. Sharing policy is also playing an important role in performance improvement.
Background: In order to improve processor performance following traditional approaches like
higher clock speeds, instruction level parallelism, and cache hierarchies were used. But now thread
level parallelism is also taken into consideration. Higher clock speed: Achieve by microarchitecture
pipelining to finer granularities known as superpipelining. Large number of... Show more content on

Hyperthreading technology architecture: Hyperthreading technology makes a single physical
processor appear to be multiple logical processors at OS level. From a microarchitecture
perspective, it means that instructions will persist and execute simultaneously on shared
execution resources. Die size and complexity: Hyperthreading technology is resource efficient
and deliver a large performance improvement at minimal cost because it entails only a small
increase in die size (is due to a second architectural state, additional control logic, and replication
of a few key processor resources) due to limited replication of physical processor resources.
Microarchitecture choices and tradeoffs: To share resources, we chose among possible sharing
schemes that included partition threshold full sharing Partition: In a partitioned resource, each
logical processor can use only half the entries. Resource partitioning is simple and low complex. It
works best for the major pipeline queues in the in order pipeline. Threshold: Another way of
sharing resources is to limit the maximum resource usage. This scheme puts a threshold on the
number of resource entries a logical processor can have. Full sharing: The most flexible mechanism
for resource sharing, do not limit the maximum

Online Communities
Online Communities Chat Rooms and Discussion Boards
To those who have never experienced an online community they may seem pointless, a waste of
time or simply childish. However, for those that have expanded beyond the traditional means of
communication such as, talking on the telephone or conversing face to face, online communities
offer a new and exciting means of communication. They offer a chance to meet others, gain advice,
voice an opinion, defend an argument, or to simply relax and have a little fun. Acknowledging both
points of view, I decided to explore the world of online communities for myself.
For my online community I decided to enter a Yahoo, country music, chat room. Through Yahoo,
there were many different chat ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Curse words were thrown around left and right, and it seemed as if everyone was in a big fight

two responses; one person told me to Shut Up (lonelycowgirlnee5, yahoo) the other said, You seem
like a nice girl can I AIM you? (cowboysainteasy, yahoo)
However, the more I observered the room the more I learned, and my first impressions were
altered slightly. I found most of the people in the room were in their mid twenties or younger
and it appeared everyone knew everyone else. When chatter entered the room, they were greeted
by all of their online friends. Chatters seemed to know things and events that were occurring in
each others lives and talked as if they were good friends. A lot of bad mouthing and fighting still
took place, and one person or another was always making a rude comment that would get
everyone into a big argument. The room was constantly full of drama. The guys were always
making perverted comments to the girls, and the girls either cursed them or thanked them. While
I was in the room I received five AIM messages from guys asking for my name, age, and location
to which I did not respond. This kind of talk and actions made me feel like I was back in a high
school locker room. I found it annoying and hard to follow, but entertaining. The whole time that I

Importance Of Quality Assurance Is A Case Management Program
An important aspect of Quality Assurance is a case management program. Case management is
frequently used for patients that have complex problems and require numerous services over an
extended period of time. Regardless of the type of case management program, they all have a
similar purpose to coordinate the care and treatment for patients with serious and life threatening
conditions over an extended period of time. Case managementprograms are concerned with both
reducing costs, and improving quality of care. In addition, there are some strengths, and limitations
to case management programs. Furthermore, the importance of care management programs in the
future will be discussed, along with the important role of gatekeepers in the care management
process. Case management programs are concerned with both reducing costs, and improving quality
of care. Providing patients with the care they need is essential for a health care organization, it is
also essential to provide care in a cost effective manner. Case management program goals include:
promoting patient satisfaction by optimizing patient self care, and providing high quality, cost
effective care (Case Management, n.d.). To focus on improving quality of care, case management
programs must focus on the patient, routinely involve the patient in the development of the care
plan, routinely monitor, evaluate, and modify the care plan to achieve optimal patient outcomes,
and collaborate care with all members of the team (Case

Monetronic Financial Crisis
Monetarists connection with the financial crises has its origins on the most influential economist
since 1970, Milton Friedman. Friedman and Schwartz (1963) argued that financial crises are
largerly exogenous phenomena and connected them with banking panics. As they documented,
bank panics lead to decline in money supplybecause depositors withdraw their deposits and banks
move to reserves rather than loans (Mishkin, 1992, pp. 122 124). The decline in money supply
follows the contraction of aggregate economic activity and the price level. It is worth mentioning,
in the early view of monetarism, decreasing asset prices and increasing business failures cannot
characterized as financial crisis, if no bank panic occurs (Mishkin, 1992, p. 116).... Show more

1441 1442) mention that, in this model, shocks due to innovation and/or expectations can generate
credit cycles and asset price fluctuations. Furthermore, they highlights three worth considering
properties of this model related with the recent credit boom. First, loose monetary policy may not
fully explain credit booms and asset bubbles because a decline in interest rate increase the money
demand and the price of assets but the result on credit demand is ambiguous. The unclear effect on
credit demand occurs because the positive effect of declining interest rate and the negative effect
of lower cost of equity. Second, demand for credit and asset prices increase if expectation for
higher future asset prices exist. In that case, the result in money demand is not certain. The higher
asset prices influence positively money demand but the expected return of real assets negatively.
Ultimately, the expansion of credit, due to for example financial innovations, to lead to lower
interest rates and higher money demand and asset

Rogers Chocolates
Introduction
Rogers Chocolates is Canada s oldest chocolate company and British Columbia s second oldest
company. Steve Parkhill, the new president of company is expected to double or possibly triple
the size of company within the next 10 years. In the chocolate candy industry, Canada s market size
was $167 million and growing 2% annually. Although the growth rate in the chocolate industry is
falling as a whole, large companies such as Hershey Cadburys are moving into the premium
chocolate market and growing 20% annually.
Rogers Chocolates retains 25% of their sales 8 weeks prior to Christmas and about 40% of their
sales come from their heavy users. Their customers are generally established families, childless,

Since online and retail items require late production much of the wholesale business is pushed first
through production. This allows for their wholesale to fulfill their orders, but not always the retail
stores. To make matters worst, sometimes during the holidays their supplier would not be able to
produce their containers needed for their production, which would also throw back production.
Production planning becomes even more complicated because of the influence of the out of
stocks, which would cause the sales graphs to be heavily distorted. The graphs would be
distorted if items were out of stock for a month and the backorders were filled in a short period
of time. Whenever there were overstock issues, retail stores would push the items through
discounts. Often when there were out of stock issues for the wholesalers the company would
take the supplies from their retail stores and divert it to the wholesaler s order. Lastly, when
special orders were placed for wholesale, it was not uncommon for the production plans to be put
on hold to focus on special orders. As a result from all the production errors, the sales graph would
have unnatural spikes, yet these spikes would be included for planning production for the following
year.
Demand forecasting is a large problem for Rogers Chocolates because if items were out of stock for
a month and back orders were filled in a short time, the sales graph

The Problem Of A Free Lunch
There s no such thing as a free lunch a very common saying in Economics because it emphasizes
that every decision requires a trade off, and although one person may be getting a deal there is
always another side to the story. John Komlos, a well respected Economist, felt economics students
left their introductory classes under the impression that in the real world, perfect competition and
efficiency are very common in the market, with few market failures, and government intervention
in the economy is generally bad and leads to losses (2). In theory and for in class examples this
view of the economy is very straight forward and makes teaching easier. However, in the real
world; there is another side of the story. Free markets do have downsides and need some
government regulationalongside being guided by morals. Americans pride themselves extensively
on being free and letting the people choose how to live, but should everything in our country be left
up to the public? The free market has the potential to be an efficient and positive system for all
those involved. Theoretically, consumers make themselves heard through their purchasing power,
this creates competition and ensures companies supply only quality products for fair prices (1).
Unfortunately, creating competition also has a Darwin effect on the producers(1). Suddenly,
rivalries are formed and making the highest profits becomes the sole purpose of the company. The
importance of worker safety, environmental

genuine changes for Indigenous involving land rights and relationships; however, these changes

How Human Resource Policies Influence the Performance of Medium Sized Manufacturing Firms
1.Introduction Globalization has created a paradigm shift in the ways by which firms conduct
their business. The convergence of world economies has minimized and in some cases
eliminated both legislative and geographical barriers to international production and sale of
goods and services. The flip side of this process is the increased competition for world markets
created especially by the threat of multinational firms to local firms (Garry Litan, 1998). Local
firms must find ways to compete and survive the threat of take over and crowding out of the
market by multinational producers who enjoy favorable economies of scale. This is effectively
achieved by ways of in themselves creating this very economy of scale; expanding business
operations helps them lower the marginal cost of production allowing them to therefore provide a
favorable pricing policy within the market. In achieving the aforementioned, firms must build up
capacity. The attention of managers and researchers alike has been commonly directed towards
assets in the sense of physical (fixed and current) and monetary assets (optimal capital structure) of
the firm in achieving this objective. Perhaps as an oversight or of limited interest is the aspect of

How Physical Geography And How It Affected My Life
Physical geography has been broad subject that includes a lot of things occuring on Earth. I never
really thought about physical geography and its impact in my life until I took this course. Some
lessons coincided with topics from my other classes such as sea erosion and outgoing longwave
radiation. Other topics applied more to my life and somewhat affected my lifestyle. I think the
ones that made most of an impact was the tsunami warning lesson and the imbalances of outgoing
longwave radiation. A few times a month my cousin and I go to Santa Monica State Beach to work
out on the stairs. Just recently I noticed the signs that read Tsunami hazard zone. Coincidentally a

How Does Hitchcock Create Suspense
Hitchcock s exploration of isolating behaviors extends beyond his guarded, prying protagonist.
The director emphasizes on the separation between the people by visually confining them to their
own spaces. The utilization of a Greenwich Village apartment is to represent the physical an
emotional distance between Jeff and his suspicious neighbors. This is seen in the scene when Jeff
changes from his binoculars to his long lens cameras, symbolizing the idea that Jeff will always be
this far from the community and ever any closer. A phallic symbol, t links this need for distance

Objectification In The Sandman
The Longing for Beauty
In his early 19th century narrative The Sandman, E.T.A. Hoffmann attempts to express the
possessiveness and obsessiveness of man that derives from appearance and sexuality. Hoffmann in
particular utilizes Klara and Olympia to exemplify Nathaniel s objectification of either of them and
his sub conscious ownership over both women. While Hoffmann degrades the standing of the
women in the narrative, he subsequently draws on an obsession with outward appearance and
beauty that is comparable to the Pygmalion myth. As Pygmalion attempts to have physical
possession over the beauty of his sculpture, Hoffmann similarly paints Nathaniel as irrationally
pursuing the possession or ownership of beauty through the female characters. Through the
symbolic objectification of the female characters and the obsessive sexualized actions of Nathaniel,
Hoffmann draws a parallel to the Pygmalion myth as beauty, grace, and sexuality become the
apparent paramount measure of value and also reveals the pitfalls created by such obsessions.
Throughout The Sandman, E.T.A. Hoffmann seeks to reveal the underlying references to the
Pygmalion myth by first portraying the female characters as subordinate, possessive objects that are
primarily defined by their beauty and are diminished to the standard of a piece of art. As the
narrative progresses, the emphasis on beauty begins to intensify and Hoffmann begins to direct the
illustration of the women through their outward appearance.

What Is The Moral Of The Bhagavad Gita
Disobedience often reflects a person s ethical ground and displays a person s beliefs that something
is morally incorrect. Through disobedience, cultures gain the ability to evaluate situations in their
entirety and construct decisions built off of careful consideration of the effects of their actions.
Arjun, in The Bhagavad Gita, exhibits disobedience through his initial decision not to engage in
combat on the battlefield; but, Arjun also discards his duties as a warrior through his protest. The
Bhagavad Gita, through Arjun s rejection of war, reflects the concept of dharma (duty), jnana
(knowledge), and yoga (discipline), which are integral components of Hinduism. Throughout The
Bhagavad Gita, Arjun is constantly reminded of these very concepts through his conversations with
Lord Krishna, concepts he would otherwise have failed to realize if he did not consider discarding
his warrior duties and did not reject the ideas of fighting against his own kin. The Bhagavad Gita,
through the momentous protest of Arjun, showcases the concepts of religious duty and obligations
while also showcasing the philosophies of a higher spiritual power and acting for the benefit of
society as a large.
In the context of the Mahabharata, the lengthy religious text that encompasses the story of The
Bhagavad Gita, Arjun s disobedience, his rejection of the concept of fighting against his kin and for
the benefits of victory, demonstrates the pivotal concept that questioning the world is beneficial.

The Lisa And The Renaissance Art Of The Mona Lisa
Beginning with the renaissance period and it s artistic contributions to the period we find one of,
if not the most famous piece of art ever, The Mona Lisa. The Mona Lisa exemplifies the
renaissance period and the era of renaissance art itself. Michelangelo Buonarroti painted the Mona
Lisa in 1517 A.D. He s most famous for his fresco s in the Sistine Chapel, specifically the ceiling.
However, the Mona Lisa is arguably the most copied piece of all time. I happen to have a copy in
my home which I couldn t imagine being without. Renaissance was a cultural movement that
spanned roughly from the 14th century to the 17th century. It saw some of the greatest artists in the
history of mankind including Leonardo Da Vinciand MichelangeloBuonarroti. July 10, 2017 (https:
//learnodo newtonic.com/famous renaissance paintings)
One of the greatest artistic advancements of the Renaissance period was used to create the Mona
Lisa. The technique is called Sfumato. Sfumato is the practice of blurring lines and softening
blending tones and hues. Its attributed with fostering increased dimensional depth to ordinarily
two dimensional art. While looking at the Mona Lisa and her seemingly plain features you
begin to see the effects of Sfumato at work. From the blurred lines defining her soft lips to the
shading around her soft eyes. The entire piece takes on a much softer appearance never before
seen in such great application of art during this period. The Mona Lisa is truly humanistic. She s
close by and in the forefront. Her hair is soft and her gaze is very relaxed. The natural light and
rugged terrain behind her almost goes unnoticed. She s mesmerized admirers for centuries before
and hopefully, for centuries to come.
Rococo art can be seen influencing artist even today. If your viewing a whimsical, flirtatious or
mischievous piece of art post 18th century, you re likely looking at Rococo inspired art. During the
latter part of the 18th century Rococo art had evolved largely from the early Renaissance type art
and Sfumato techniques. Almost the antithesis of Baroque art and it s reliance on straight lines and
sharp contrast coupled with popular, or unpopular imperial Louis XIV messaging, Rococo adds

Shawnee Tribe Research Paper
The Shawnee Tribe, since first encountering Europeans in 1677, the group has encountered issues,
such as population decrease. But as of twenty first century, the tribe has regained a following. For
the most part, the Shawnee have abandoned their nomadic roots. They have taken on modern tasks,
realizing that they would need to keep up with the times in order to survive. Currently occupying
regions of Oklahoma and Missouri, the tribe has split into three large groups, the Absentee
Shawnee, Eastern Shawnee, and Loyal Shawnee. Together, the three groups have around 8,000
members in total. The customs and traditions of the Shawnee have for the most part, been

are meeting their goals. They are better off than many tribes and have better housing, with casinos

Humanist Movement During The Middle Ages
The tendency of those to look towards a higher being for guidance has been part of human nature
since the birth of religion. This tendency has made religion a cornerstone of human civilization, and
a subject of focus throughout history. During the Middle Ages, the works of John Wycliff and Jan
Hus sought to reform the church and return power to its followers. This self empowerment through
the reformation of their religious studies fathered core beliefs of the Humanism movement during
the Renaissance. This movement uses the work of Wycliff and Hus to establish their own ideas
about how to use scripture, and gives merit to the significance of the Middle Ages. John Wycliff, an
English scholar and theologian, believed that the most important... Show more content on

An important piece of literature to humanists was the bible, and the translation of it was crucial
to humanist learning. The power of a translated bible, shown by Wycliff and Hus, was realized
by many humanists during the Renaissance such as Desiderius Erasmus. Erasmus, a dutch
humanist, believed in the power of a translated bible and in his writings he expresses his wish
that even the weakest woman should read the gospel should read the epistles of Paul. And I wish
these were translated into all languages so that they might be read and understood, not only by
scots and Irishmen, but also by Turks and Saracens. (McKay 371) This call for the translation of
scripture into all languages showed Erasmus s fundamental idea that Education in the Bible...is the
means to reform, the key to moral and intellectual improvement. (McKay 371) The translation of
the bible, like in the case of Wycliff and Hus, allowed the common literate population to be freed
from the constraints of the church, and formulate their own ideas about christianity. This idea was
made plausible through the printing press, which allowed books to be produced and distributed at a
much faster rate, and gave it legs to stand on. Erasmus, one of many who called for reform in the
church during the Renaissance, brought this key humanistic idea to the

Long Day s Journey Into Night Character Analysis
In the play Long Day s Journey into Night , each character is faced with many drastic challenges.
These challenges aren t only with themselves, but with other members of their family. They share
blame and judgement to themselves and others, dwell on their pasts, struggle to handle their
addictions, and also their own personal sufferings. The oddities such as these makes one wonder
how hard it must be to struggle without even the helpof your own family.
No one seems to be able to accept their own faults and in turn blame everything on someone else
whenever they find the chance to. Mary, the boy s mother, is a morphine addict and blames her
loneliness on her husband, Tyrone, who she claims refuses to buy her nice things and creates a
terrible living arrangement for her and her family. For example in the play, she says, In a real
home one is never lonely. You forget I know from experience what a home is like. I gave up one
to marry you my father s home. She insists how unhappy she is and how he constantly chooses
working on new properties instead of using the money to actually make her happy for once. Mary
is forever lonely and blames Tyrone for it since he s constantly leaving her to go to barrooms.
Jamie even blames Tyrone for being cheap when it comes to Edmund needing help from a doctor.
He claims how he uses a doctor who he gives a talk about getting the cheapest option, never the
most effective option. Jamie says, Well, for God s sake, pick out a good place and

Law Enforcement Of The United States

Law Enforcement Imagine if there was no type of law enforcement code for a month in your
city. Crime rates will be at an all time high. People would have no sort of protection or stability.
There would also be no one to control the people; no one will ensure peace amongst the people.
Thanks to our police officers all of these possible dangerous situations are kept under control on a
daily basis. Police officers put their lives on the line each day to ensure peace and protection to the
public.
Law enforcement has been around for centuries, providing aid and assisting the people.
Communities first developed watch systems composed of volunteers whose primary duty was to
warn people of impending danger. ( The History of Policing ) The law enforcement program in
the United States closely followed that of England at the time. Law enforcement in the United
States began on April 1631 in Boston: Boston created a night watch in 1636, New York in 1658
and Philadelphia in 1700. The night watch was not a particularly effective crime control device.
Watchmen often slept or drank on duty. While the watch was theoretically voluntary, many
volunteers were simply attempting to evade military service, were conscript forced into service by
their town, or were performing watch duties as a form of punishment. ( The History of Policing )
The program consisted of both appointed officers and volunteers. The tasks of these early officers

The Hero s Journey in Modern Film Essay
Countless quest narratives ranging from modern texts all the way back to ancient texts have all
conformed to a certain archetypal structure. Christopher Vogler writes:
All stories consist of a few common structural elements found universally in myths, fairy tales,
dreams, and movies. They are known collectively as The Hero s Journey. Understanding these
elements and their use in modern writing is the object of our quest. Used wisely, these ancient
tools of the storytellers craft still have tremendous power to heal our people and make the world a
better place (xxvii).
Being one of the world s most popular art forms, it was inevitable that these archetypes would find
their way into film as well. In this essay I will argue that the ... Show more content on

However, since the hero is part of society, the journey is also one of personal development. On a
more psychological level, one could suggest that the hero s quest is symbolic of all personal
conflict. Conflict begins when a problem arises that must be dealt with. Most people, at first,
refuse to come to terms with whatever this problem may be, and attempt to ignore it. With enough
mental determination and/or aid from an outside source, however, one can bring themselves to
cross the first threshold, and begin their journey into the heart of the problem. For example,
victims of rape or other types of abuse must face what is haunting them in order for it to be
exorcised properly.
In the beginning of any narrative that follows a monomythical structure, a reluctant hero is called to
adventure. In Pulp Fiction, this hero is Jules Winnfield. Jules is called to adventure when Marcellus
Wallace instructs him and Vincent to collect his briefcase from Brett s apartment. Interestingly
enough, this occurs before the film even begins, as we are first introduced to Jules and Vincent in
medias res as they make their way to the apartment. Usually the next stage is supernatural aid,
where the hero receives help with their journey by some otherworldly force, but Tarantino chooses
to switch this stage places with the first threshold. The first threshold is when the hero faces a
threshold guardian, standing for

Lennie s Childishness
During the 1930s in America, many experienced years of harsh depression, where food and work
were scarce. Many struggled to survive during this difficult period, and as a result were forced to
travel to seek any work they could. The novel Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck focuses on two
itinerant men named George and Lennie, who struggled under the difficulty of these times. They
find work at a ranch to fund their dream of owning their own ranch and being independent.
However, it is due to Lennie, who, as Steinbeck effectively conveys throughout the novel, is a
physically intimidating but mentally childish man, that their American dream is shattered, as a
result of his love for petting soft things and his, unbeknown to him,... Show more content on

Among the most prominent of Lennie s sympathetic attributes is undoubtedly his frightened
nature. This characteristic is conveyed consistently throughout the novel even when Lennie
loses his temper it is due to fear. His timidity is often due to being scared of displeasing George,
who acts as Lennie s father figure: Lennie looked timidly over to him. George? Here, Lennie
appears to be asking for permission from George to ask a question, for fear that George will be
angry. This demonstrates Lennie s timidity and lack of confidence, as well as his childishness
and dependence on George. One significant incident which is used to establish this characteristic
is when Curley attacks Lennie in the bunkhouse. Lennie is terrified, and the novel states that he
covered his face with his huge paws and bleated with terror . Here, the author uses metaphor to
compare Lennie to an animal. He describes Lennie s hands as paws, and the noise he is making
as bleating. This reinforces the irony that Lennie is so physically powerful but so mentally weak,
as, despite being strong, with paws like such of a bear, he is making a noise like that of a lamb.
By characterising Lennie in this way, the author presents him as an fearful and innocent character,
making the reader feel sympathy for him. Another way that Steinbeck creates sympathy for the
character of Lennie is by portraying him as childlike, with George taking the role of his father
figure. For example,

A Comparison Of Cimon s Exile And Return ( Plutarch 136 )
Cimon was an Athenian military general living in the 6th and 5th century BCE. He was the son of
Miltiades and Hegesipyle which made him very well known (Plutarch 120). Throughout his life, he
lead many successful military missions as well as some unsuccessful. Cimon had a slight mishap
when he advocated that there should be more cooperation between Athensand Sparta two rival
states. As a result, he was ostracised from Athens for 10 years beginning in 461BC. Cimon
eventually returned to Athens around 451BC when he started rebuilding the state. However, what
often goes unnoticed is the effect Cimon had on creating democracyin Athens.
The main action that influenced democracy in Athens was Cimon s exile and return (Plutarch
136). By all means being exiled did not make him a popular man; however, when he returned he
gradually regained popularity by working hard for it. He returned at a lower level of power than
he originally was which lead to his hard work and eventual death in battle. For these reasons, its
obvious that Cimon had an effect on democracy in Athens. Because of his effort to regain
popularity by hard working, Cimon proved that he could be a political leader; however, would
never be appointed due to the fact that it was not democratic. The citizens of Athens regained
Cimon s respect and would have likely voted him in power if there had been the opportunity. In that
sense, Cimon influenced democracy in Athens because the people realized there are better people

The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) are a set of academic standards created to establish
clear and defined objectives for elementary and secondary students across the United
States. These guidelines consist of what every student from kindergarten to the 12th grade should
know and be able to master in math and language arts. The focus of the CCSS is to develop critical

The lessons will be more difficult and rigorous to teach because it requires students to develop
higher critical thinking skills. Jobs may be on the line if students do not perform well on
assessments. Students are faced with a bigger challenge with CCSS. No longer will memorizing
information be enough for students to graduate to the next grade level but a higher level of
thinking will be required for all students. According to the CCSS, the skills required to master the
concepts for the next level and after graduation of high school will be beneficial to all students.
While this may be theoretically true students in low socioeconomic communities who attend low
performing schools may be at a disadvantage. These schools are already having trouble with
students performing at previous standards. Providing more challenging standards may prove to be
insurmountable for these schools and students which may lead to jobs being lost and state
legislators taking control of the school. The mathematical standards of the CCSS build upon the
high quality of standards for mathematics across the United States. These standards are developed
from the best international practices along with research and input from different experts and
educators. The math standards provide clarity and specificity that stresses upon conceptual
understanding of key ideas and organizing principles to structure those ideas. The

The Power of Personal Image
A young woman stands in front of the mirror and is disgusted by the reflection that only she can

someone who is willing to go to any length or pay any price to have the perfect body. In her essay,

How Did Giovanni De Medici Family s Rise To Power
Giovanni di Bicci de Medici initiated the Medici family s rise to power during the Renaissance
by founding the Medici Bank. Giovanni was born in 1360 to his father, Averardo de Medici, and
his mother, Jacopo, Spini. Although Giovanni was not born into a wealthy family he got his start
working in bank management beside Vieri di Cambio de Medici. Vieri taught Giovanni about
banking and in 1385 Giovanni ran the Rome branch of Vieira s bank (Cole 1). After Vieri retired
Giovanni gained control of the business and founded the Medici Bank in 1397. He relocated the

The Successful Outcome Of The United Nations Essay
The successful outcome of the United Nations 21st annual Conference of the Parties (COP21)
raised hopes and expectations of concerted global efforts to tackle climate change, and brought
forward a whole raft of questions:
How will this affect the momentum behind the deployment of key renewable technologies and the
drive for greater energy efficiency?
Ample supply is keeping downward pressure on fossil fuel prices, coal, oil and natural gas. When
and how will market dynamics change or might lower prices for some fuels be here to stay?
The impact of local pollution, often energy related, on air quality is a matter of rising social and
political concern in many countries. How can governments act to tackle this problem and what
would these actions mean for the energy sector?
The World Energy Outlook 2016 published by the International Energy Agency(IEA) is coming out
in November and will shed some light on these questions with insightful analysis.
In the meantime, there is one matter that everyone can agree on: for the near future, energy
demand will continue to grow. How it is produced and used will be a critical factor in the future of
the global economy, geopolitics and the environment.
With that in mind, McKinsey Company s Global Energy Insights team took a hard look at the data,

Staff Position
As we grow we start to notice our own capabilities. I believe that everyone has reached their
capabilities by the near end of our Junior year going into our Senior year of high school. Which
is also the year we all begin to become NS4 s and apply for staff positions in rotc. I intend to
apply for two different staff positions because I feel that I am fully capable to put my abilities
towards them. The staff positions of Command Master Chief. I have many reasons why to apply to
this particular position and I hope that you would be able to understand them as well.
In the progressing years of the program, I have very high goals for the drill teams as well as
myself when it comes to p.t.. In the coming months we as a team hope to have the mindset ... Show

Since my 8th grade year I have seen the exhibition routine being performed and I have enjoyed it
every single time. It was not till my freshman summer that I started learning it because the team was
in need of replacements. But I have known since my freshman year that I wanted to be the
exhibition commander. I feel that I am qualified because of my ability to project my voice very
well and that I have had at least two years of experience in the block like my other teammate
Loredo. I also believe she is as well as qualified as I am to command the exhibition routine because
she has more experience than any other female to know the routine by heart.
In conclusion I am applying for the Command Master Chief position because I feel that I can
handle the opportunity to help my fellow cadets and my upcoming staff in making decisions.
This way I can help people make tough decisions and to bring out the best in them. I also intend
to get along very well with my upcoming staff and to have the best year any other program cannot
seem to achieve like us. As I said before this year is made to be consistent with who we are to

INTRODUCTION
TELEVISION NEWS media is one of the most important catalysts that has an invariably important
role to play in shaping up public opinions, sentiments, and dogmas by promulgating accurate and
desirable information and knowledge. Due to its vast intrusion in public life, it has the power of
creating an enduring impact on society and culture of a region. Today, TV news channels in India

In other words we can say that these are popular in metro cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata,
Chennai etc. these channels can be seen in small cities. But these are not as important in small
cities as in big cities.
Level of news given by English news channels
If there is a issue about the level of news channels. then English news channels are very
appropriate. News given by these news channels are 90% real. English news channels give real
news as much as possible. so it can be said that these are better than Hindi news channels. However
news channels have much importance in metropolitan cities but we come to small cities, there are
some problems occur because more than 65% Indian population live in villages nearby areas. They
are mostly illiterate in these areas . English is beyond their thinking.

Sight Gags and Charlie Chaplin Essay
Sight Gags and Charlie Chaplin
We have all seen it done before, either in real life or in the movies. A situation is funny because of
the misinterpretation of someone s actions or the complete conflict of what a situation seems to be
and what it really is. People come into contact with sight gags all the time. One might be trying to
be sneaky and hide something and then when someone looks, one pretends to be doing something
else not to get caught. One could also pantomime using an umbrella as a baseball bat. These are
both basic forms of sight gags.
Sight gags are an essential part of comedy, especially the silent comedies of Charlie Chaplin s time.
A sight gag is a visual form of comedy. In this form of comedy, the actors rely on... Show more

The accuser, however, had not seen that Chaplin had put the money in her pocketin the first place.
This misunderstanding makes the scene funny when the man tells the woman to check her pockets
and she is overjoyed to find money.
The second sight gag discussed is the mimed metaphor, which is when an actor uses pantomime
as a gag. For this, the actor uses an object that is very recognizable and pantomimes something
that is not its proper use. This is a kind of visual simile, and is generally used in silent films more
than sound films. The mimed metaphor is different from the mutual interface gag in that there are
not multiple points of view to consider, they often do not result in mishaps, and commonly deal
with objects rather than events. The mimed metaphor is used in the film The Count, in which at
one point Chaplin s character uses his cane like a pool cue in order to hit an object off the table.
At the beginning of The Immigrant Chaplin s character is hanging over the side of the boat. The
audience gets the impression that he is seasick, however we soon learn that he is actually just
fishing. This is a perfect example of switch image. In the beginning, the audience is led to believe
one thing, but with the revelation of new details we soon realize that our perception of the situation
was wrong, and generally our perception changes to something

Analysis Of Fortune Hath Taken Thee Away My Love
Fortune fine or poor, remains a top priority in Sir Walter Raleigh s poem, Fortune Hath Taken
Thee Away, My love. Each stanza is drenched in depressing diction; as a result, not much of the
poem can be taken so literally. There are six quatrains in this poem: In the first quatrain, the
author introduces to the reader he has lost his love because fortune took it or her away; never in
the poem does the author give a specific answer as to who or what his love is. Although, in the
third line, Raleigh does refer to his love as princess, so we could assume the subject of this poem
and his love is female. Continuing on to the second quatrain, the man goes on to say fortune
took away everything from him, just by taking his love away. Because of this, the author now
makes fortune, itself, a mortal enemy. Next, in the third quatrain, the author becomes angry,
telling himself all of the reactions to the loss are in vain. He curses his eyes for weeping, his
sighs and his continued search for his love. Moving into the fourth quatrain, the author accepts
sorrow as his new princess, in place of the one he lost; he begins to accept his new loss. In
comparison to the second quatrain, in the fifth, the author is almost glad to be able to experience
any kind of fortune, due to the fact even kings experience fortune. Finally, in the sixth quatrain the
author brings in the supernatural force of Cupid. He goes on to say if Cupid had used wisdom s
eyes, the author would not be suffering as

The United States Justice System
Officers in a Texas McDonald s parking lot saw a black man and a white man in the process of
exchanging seats on a road trip from Florida to California, while leaving the parking lot; the
officer implied that the man driving did not use his right turn signal. The men alleged that their
privacy was invaded when the vehicle was searched without a warrant or permission from the
driver. When one of the men attempted to video tape the incident on a cell phone he was told to
stop. The term driving while black has been used to describe the practice of law enforcement
officers to stop African Americandrivers without probable cause (Weatherspoon, 2004). The United
States Justice System is based upon a flawed designed through miseducation of students in the
school system, maintaining of a slave mentally in the prison system, and the perceptions of African
Americans in America.
Currently, the Public School System is readying African American for a life in prison. Today,
many schools have been issued metal detectors and excessive cameras for monitoring students. I
believe that African American Students are not being prepared for college by high school faculty
and staff. Dr. Carter G. Woodson published a book called The Miseducation of the Negro in his
book he explains how miseducation leaves many African American students unprepared for a life of
competition with their racial counter parts. Woodson stated dooming the Negro to a brainwashed
sense of self confidence and achievement

Analysis Of Cosmopolitism In Things Fall Apart By Chinua...
It is unbelievable to think that an action of what a person does in the present, can either lead to
nothing or it can become a catastrophe event. In Things Fall Apart, Achebe writes about the
Nigerian culture through the events that happen to the main character which is Okonkowo. In
Cosmopolitism, Appiah writes about the different values, morals, and cultures people in the world
have and how people can live together despite having differences. The event that could have had a
different outcome was when the Abmae elders decided to execute the white missionary man and
later on the group of white people massacred the Abmae village. If the characters in the event were
more cosmopolitan with the concept of understanding each other and uncalled for punishment, then
the event could have been a different outcome. When one applies Appiah s idea of understanding
each other and uncalled for punishment in Cosmopolitism to the event in Things Fall Apart, the
event changes to when the elders would not have executed the white missionary man and
therefore there would be no massacre from the group of white people. When the white man riding
a bicycle came to the Abmae village, the villagers were horrified to see a foreigner. The white
man who came to Abmae did not cause any harm to the villagers and yet the elders of the Abmae
village decided to execute the white man. The villagers did not try to understand why the white man
was here for. In Cosmopolitism, Appiah states One truth we hold

Figurative Language In The Open Window
In The Open Window by Hector Hugh Munro (also known as Saki), it is evident that Munro is
trying to get a significant message about truth and deception across to the audience. He tells a
story of a fifteen year old, Vera, who frightens a man, Mr. Nuttel, with a deliberate lie about her
uncle, Mr. Sappleton, and his two brothers in law drowning in a bog. The objective of this
narrative is to display dishonesty and what appears to be, opposed to reality, in underlying forms
of figurative language. The amount of figurative language in this story by Saki, is what makes it
as interesting as it is. Saki uses imagery to create an eerie feeling as the hunting party of Vera s
uncle returns through the open window. Saki gives off images like, deepening

Why Is Thurgood Marshall Important
Thurgood Marshall was a U.S. Supreme Court justice and civil right propagandist. Therefore,
Marshall earned an important place in American history on the basis of two accomplishments. First,
as legal counsel for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), he
guided the prosecution that devastated the legal groundwork of Jim Crow segregation. Second, as
an associate justice of the Supreme Court and the nation s first black justice. He crafted a particular
jurisprudence distinguishable by uncompromising liberalism, unusual attentiveness to empirical
scrutiny beyond the formalities of law, and an indefatigable willingness to dissent. Thurgood

During this period, Thurgood was asked by the United Nations and the United Kingdom to help
allocate the constitutions of the emerging African nations of Ghana. It was perceived that the
person who so auspiciously fought for the virtue of America s tyrannized minority, would be the
impeccable choice to warrant the rights of the White citizens, in these two former European
colonies. After accumulating an imposing record of Supreme Court opposition to state sponsored
discriminatory chauvinism, including the landmark Brown v. Board decision in 1954, President
John F. Kennedy appointed Thurgood Marshall to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second
Circuit. While in this position, he wrote over 150 decisions including support for the rights of
immigrants, limiting government intrusion in cases involving illegal search and seizure, double
jeopardy, and right to privacy issues. Biographers Michael Davis and Hunter Clark note that, none
of his 98 majority decisions was ever reversed by the Supreme Court. In 1965 President Lyndon
Johnson appointed Judge Marshall to the office of U.S. Solicitor General. Before his ensuing
nomination to the United States Supreme Court in 1967, Thurgood won 14 of the 19 cases he
maintained before the Supreme Court, on behalf of the government. Marshall s first victory before
the Supreme Court came in Chambers v. Florida (1940), in which he successfully defended four
black men who had been convicted of murder on the basis of confessions coerced from them by
police. Another crucial Supreme Court victory for Marshall came in the 1944 case of Smith v.
Allwright, in which the Court struck down the Democratic Party s use of whites only primary
elections in various Southern

Claude Debussy Nonconforming Style
With strict guidelines and rules, one often finds a sense of order and proper balance. This is a
common philosophy across many realms. Without order or balance, there is often chaos and
calamity and many people find that uncomfortable, to say the least. However, there are a few that
thrive by breaking the rules or simply ignoring them altogether. Claude Debussyonce said that he
did not write in a particular style because he knew the style (Lederer 15). This is to say that he
knew the outcome of following the rules and he wanted to create something better which would
require that he toss all rules aside. This sentiment is one that Debussy carried throughout his entire
life and is present in all his works. In his first published work, Nuit d etoiles, he demonstrates his
first example of his nonconforming style as well as musicthat is not just expression of feelingbut a
feeling itself. From a very early age, it was apparent that Claude Debussy was incredibly talented.
It was also apparent from the start that he despised many of the forms and foundational teachings
of the prestigious school, the Paris Conservatory, much to the dismay of a somewhat archaic
faculty. However, despite his utterly unorthodox (Roberts 36) methods and approaches to his
schoolwork, Debussy s teachers recognized his ingenious and respected his burning need to find
expression for the sounds in his imagination (Lederer 15).
Debussy s introspective and reserved nature often inclined him to isolate

Geological And Environmental Circumstances That Have Been...
Geological and environmental circumstances that have an affect have been designated geohazards.
There are many different categories of geohazards that can occur in the world. Some of these
geohazards include landslides, earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanoes, lahars, and hydrothermal
eruptions. These natural disasters can all have both short and long term effect on the surrounding
environment. It is important to recognize the different kinds of geohazards and how to know if we
can take preventive measures or very minimally understand which areas may be more susceptible to
a geohazard event.

The largest earthquake that has been recorded was a 9.6. It occurred May 22, 1960 in southern
Chile. It lasted for approximately ten minutes. There was a resulting tsunami that hit Hawaii, Japan,
and part of New Zealand. While the exact number of casualties is unknown the number is estimated
to be between one thousand to six thousand souls.
Tsunami is a Japanese term meaning harbour wave. They are also known as tidal waves or
seismic sea waves. Earthquakes and volcanic eruptions are these most prevalent triggers of
tsunami occurrences. What makes tsunamis not the same as normal waves is that customary
whitecaps are caused by the gravitational pull of the moon or sun, or they are formed due to wind
patterns. However, tsunamis are caused by a severe water displacement. While tsunamis do
transpire around the world, Japan is the foremost victim of this natural disaster. Tsunamis can be
over one hundred feet tall and move forward at speeds of five hundred miles per hour. An
average of 7,916 people perishes each year correlated to tsunami incidents. Another 85,582 are
affected. Eighty percent of tidal waves transpire in the Pacific Ocean s ring of fire.
The largest recorded tsunami occurred on July 9, 1958. It happened in the evening after an
earthquake happened on the Fairweather Fault in the Alaska Panhandle. It had a record height of
1,720 feet and hit the shores of Lituya Bay, Alaska. The impact of the tsunami resulted in the
uprooting of many trees. This was

My Memories Of My Grandfather
Some might look at a pile of red and white dice as an irrelevant object, but to me they had a
deeper meaning. To me they meant the best memories of my grandfather. They meant how he
would take us fishing and while we waited for a bite he would tell me stories of playing
professional football while I played with the dice. To me they meant the last memories of my
grandpa. My grandma and grandpa lived only 2 hours away in a tiny town just outside of State
College, the town was called Hollidaysburg. My grandpa had lived there his whole life. He
played sports for the local High School. He was All American in football, All State in basketball,
and All American in baseball. My grandma told me stories about how she went to the rival high
school, and how they would try there hardest to throw him off his game. She said to me We
would make signs to try to get in his head, but it seemed like nothing would work. I asked Was he
really that good? She responded Well, every time he touched the ball in basketball we would
double team him, and he still averaged about 30 points a game. she continued When we would
play him in football he never came off the field, he was the kicker, the punter, a tight end, and a
linebacker. I sat there in disbelief, I hadn t realized how powerful he was when he was in
highschool. I could hear him trudging down the hallway he opened the door and I saw my

Battle Of Ap Bac Essay
The Battle of Ap Bac The battle of Ap Bac was a small battle engaged between the Army of the
Republic of Vietnam (ARVN) and the insurgents, or the People Liberation Armed Forces (Viet
Cong AKA VC) with the assistance of American s weapons and advice during the Vietnam War.
It took place on 2 January, 1963, near a small village named Ap Bac which is located
approximately 65 km southwest of Saigon in the Mekong Delta. (Starry, 2002). As a senior
leader, it is important that we have to be technically and tactically proficient. In order to be
proficient, we not only need to be trained, but also we have to know how to gain experience from
past battles in history using battle assessment, and critical thinking process to study the battle. That
way, we know what needs to be improved, how to sustain it, and how would we execute it better
next time. Therefore, studying the history of the battle of Ap Bac will enhance the knowledge of
how the commanders used the most effective and efficient method for applying decisive action on
the battle field. It would be a successful outcome for the South Vietnamese ARVN, and Kennedy s
administration would have gained more trust from American people for the presence of American
troops in Vietnam, if the American advisers and the ARVN s commanders would have integrated
intelligence preparation of the battlefield (ITP) throughout the operations process to identify the
gaps of intelligence between human intelligence (HUMINT),

The Earthquake Tsunami Of Tsunami Niven Setyawan Geography 180 Physical Geography 5/27/17 Tsunami There are many types of natural disaster that are quite deadly (earthquake, tornado, volcanic eruption, etc.). Out of all natural disaster that ever occurs on earth, I believe that tsunami is by far most interesting one out of all. The reason why tsunami is very interesting is because it can be triggered by many causes (earthquake, volcanic eruption, underwater landslide, fall of a large mass, etc.) On this research paper; I will explain what exactly is tsunami, the 2004 Sumatra tsunami, and how to predict tsunami. Tsunami (also known as tidal wave or seismic sea wave) is a series of waves created by the displacement of water, unlike normal ocean waves which are created by ... Even though billions of dollars of humanitarian aid have been used to help all the effected region of the tsunami disaster, some areas still have not recovered from this disaster. In 2011, an earthquake registered at the magnitude of 9.0 9.1 hit the coast of Tohoku Japan (it is recorded to be the most powerful earthquake ever hit Japan). The earthquake caused a giant tsunami waves with the highest waves measured at the heights of 133 feet. Despite of Japan s precaution plan of Tsunami attack, the damage that the tsunami and earthquake did was very severe. The tsunami walls that Japan created around the nuclear plant has no effect because it is not a big as the tsunami waves thus resume the damage that the tsunami has set its eyes on; multiple infrastructure damage, nuclear plant damage, and severe nuclear plant radiation leak. • 5. Individualism In The Great Gatsby The 1920s were years marked with wild economic prosperity, cultural flowering and shaking up of social values in America. The period is nostalgically remembered as the Boom, the Roaring Twenties and for the sake of this paper; the Jazz Age. The Jazz Age was coined by Scott Fitzgerald, who in this era reached the pinnacle of his writing career (Shmoop Editorial Team). The 1925 publication of the Great Gatsby impeccably captured the era s dispositions and styles. America had overcome the harrowing effects of the First World War and by all means, the nation looked like the next Europe on the horizon. This tremendous inflow of wealth brought with it a new morality which was less worried about the conventional values of the previous generations.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is a sharp contrast from the icy rigidity implied by the title. It s this contrast that Fitzgerald uses throughout the book to examine the cultural differences between the Southerners and the Northerners. On a deeper level, not only does the story depict the differences in outlooks and lifestyles between the two, but it also tackles the varying mindsets of communities and human values across the world. Fitzgerald uses imagery to illustrate this rift. While describing the Southern town, the author compares the sun to paint. He says The sunlight dripped over the house like golden paint over an art jar . Apart from people in the town appearing to be slow and lazy, the whole town seems to be suffering from the effects of too much heat, ...even the shops seemed only yawning in their doors and blinking their windows in the sunshine before retiring into a state of utter and finite coma.. Sally s lover Harry Bellamy is irritated by their shiftlessness and thus regarding them as degenerates . Sally defends her home town by reiterating that They may be lazy anybody would be in that climate . This sense of non belonging that Harry feels while in the South is magnified when Sally visits the North. Sally s friends are worried that she is engaged to a Yankee . She says that, although she loves her friends, it s highly unlikely that will remain in the sleepy town, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. A Story From A Old Wedding Gown After trying on a mysterious old wedding gown, a spirited, but insecure dressmaker is transported to 1935 Wales, where she becomes the dressmaker for her great grandmother, and now she must find her way back home. STORY COMMENTS MAGICALLY WED offers a delightful fantasy. The concept is solid. The scriptpresents as a fun and classic fish out of water and coming of age story. The idea of an insecure, but hopeful wedding dress designer from the present being transported back in time to 1935 to become a dressmaker s assistant to her own great grandmother is a creative and imaginative idea. The plot is driven by strong themes about finding one s voice and believing in one s self. It s also about connecting, reconnecting, and family values. One of the highlights is the very likable protagonist, Ava. She s the type of character that s easy to like and effortlessly root for. Through the course of her personal journey, she learns to grow up and transforms into a mature woman. She also finds her own voice. Ava is driven by her deep inner conflict to belong to a loving family. While there s a lot to adore about this fun script, overall, the script would benefit from more development, especially in the areas of structure, some plot choices, and dialogue. First, the script has an identified three act structure. The first act sets up Ava s ordinary world. Her aunt belittles her and she doesn t have the confidence to stand up for herself. She has a dream and goal of going to a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Issue Of Gender Roles Introduction In this paper I will discuss the issue of gender roles in marriage. I will be exploring the debated question of: who should lead a marriage through decision making, direction, and preference. Throughout the paper I will argue that a marriage is not centered on one figure and that it takes two people to make everyday decisions that effect the direction of a marriage along with theological gender roles in a marriage. Equal say and the establishment of roles in a marriage are crucial for a long term, happy, and successful marriage. To have a successful marriage certain roles of men and women must be me in order to produce a long and happy marriage. This topic is very important to me because I grew up in a household where my ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I do think though that the roles we take on in a marriage somewhat effect the overall decisions that each spouse makes. Why Establish Gender Roles? When two people join their lives together, how do they decide on a direction that they will lead their marriage? What if the habits of one another are annoying or inconsistent with their own? What if they have a difference in priorities? Marriages have indefinite answer to these questions. In general counselors suggest couples should compromise or take turns in decision making role of the relationship. This solution generally doesn t work. Many spouses end up saying, We decided your way last time, thus leading to conflict. Often, there are also disputes on what is a good compromise between the married couple. Similarly, consider how you would feel about this radical situation: you decided on where to eat last night, now I am going to decide on what car we should buy. Both trading off and compromising might be useful in certain situations, but it is often found problematic and has it flaws. Some decisions do not have compromising as an option. Suppose a couple does not agree on where to live. If they compromise, they may end up living in an area they both despise. In real life it is the more powerful partner is usually the one that gets the other one to subdue to their overall ruling and authority. Partners of less power need to decide how much they are willing to take. It is important as Christians in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Mahatma Gandhi And Nelson Mandela If Mahatma Gandhi never inspired Nelson Mandela to fulfill his vision for human rights, would Nelson Mandela have inspired Barack Obama to continue that legacy? Mahatma Gandhi practiced civil disobedience and lobbied for the rights of Indians in South Africa and India. Nelson Mandela hungered and fought for a South Africa, where all races were equal and unified as nationalists. Barack Obama sought to build a more tolerant United States through his historic presidency, immigration policies, and equal rights for all people. Although these individuals faced severe opposition, they persisted and enacted significant changes in human rights. For instance, In 1960 s Mandela got imprisoned till 1990...Gandhi got imprisoned multiple times in South Africa and in India as well (Researchpedia Contrast of Mandela and Gandhi Paragraph 6). Gandhi and Mandela both were imprisoned for their acts of disobedience and did not back down even while in prison. In summary, Gandhi directly experienced prejudice which set him on a course for unifying his people and demanding change for India. Like Gandhi before him, Nelson Mandela demanded a dramatic change in the treatment of his people and was willing to suffer life long persecution and imprisonment to achieve it. Mandela desired equal human rights be given to all South Africans, regardless of color, and enacted change against the apartheid through political activism and becoming a symbol of defiance during his twenty seven year imprisonment. Mandela s desire for equal rights in South Africa fueled his quest for education and career in politics. For example, As he secured formal education, Nelson Mandela became more outspoken for causes of the suppressed, eventually being expelled from school for protesting...only to return later to complete his degree (Sarah Brooks Paragraph 1). Implementation of SMT Concept in Intel Processor Essay The main idea of this article is implementation of SMT concept in Intel processor which is based on efficient use of limited amount of processor resources such that at OS and software level it is seems just like multiple processors are running multiple processes. It is less costly and more efficient. Sharing policy is also playing an important role in performance improvement. Background: In order to improve processor performance following traditional approaches like higher clock speeds, instruction level parallelism, and cache hierarchies were used. But now thread level parallelism is also taken into consideration. Higher clock speed: Achieve by microarchitecture pipelining to finer granularities known as superpipelining. Large number of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hyperthreading technology architecture: Hyperthreading technology makes a single physical processor appear to be multiple logical processors at OS level. From a microarchitecture perspective, it means that instructions will persist and execute simultaneously on shared execution resources. Die size and complexity: Hyperthreading technology is resource efficient and deliver a large performance improvement at minimal cost because it entails only a small increase in die size (is due to a second architectural state, additional control logic, and replication of a few key processor resources) due to limited replication of physical processor resources. Microarchitecture choices and tradeoffs: To share resources, we chose among possible sharing schemes that included partition threshold full sharing Partition: In a partitioned resource, each logical processor can use only half the entries. Resource partitioning is simple and low complex. It works best for the major pipeline queues in the in order pipeline. Threshold: Another way of sharing resources is to limit the maximum resource usage. This scheme puts a threshold on the number of resource entries a logical processor can have. • 10. Online Communities Online Communities Chat Rooms and Discussion Boards To those who have never experienced an online community they may seem pointless, a waste of time or simply childish. However, for those that have expanded beyond the traditional means of communication such as, talking on the telephone or conversing face to face, online communities offer a new and exciting means of communication. They offer a chance to meet others, gain advice, voice an opinion, defend an argument, or to simply relax and have a little fun. Acknowledging both points of view, I decided to explore the world of online communities for myself. For my online community I decided to enter a Yahoo, country music, chat room. The guys were always making perverted comments to the girls, and the girls either cursed them or thanked them. • 11. Importance Of Quality Assurance Is A Case Management Program An important aspect of Quality Assurance is a case management program. Case management is frequently used for patients that have complex problems and require numerous services over an extended period of time. Regardless of the type of case management program, they all have a similar purpose to coordinate the care and treatment for patients with serious and life threatening conditions over an extended period of time. Case managementprograms are concerned with both reducing costs, and improving quality of care. In addition, there are some strengths, and limitations to case management programs. Furthermore, the importance of care management programs in the future will be discussed, along with the important role of gatekeepers in the care management process. Case management programs are concerned with both reducing costs, and improving quality of care. Providing patients with the care they need is essential for a health care organization, it is also essential to provide care in a cost effective manner. Case management program goals include: promoting patient satisfaction by optimizing patient self care, and providing high quality, cost effective care (Case Management, n.d.). To focus on improving quality of care, case management programs must focus on the patient, routinely involve the patient in the development of the care plan, routinely monitor, evaluate, and modify the care plan to achieve optimal patient outcomes, and collaborate care with all members of the team (Case ... • 12. Monetronic Financial Crisis Monetarists connection with the financial crises has its origins on the most influential economist since 1970, Milton Friedman. Friedman and Schwartz (1963) argued that financial crises are largerly exogenous phenomena and connected them with banking panics. As they documented, bank panics lead to decline in money supplybecause depositors withdraw their deposits and banks move to reserves rather than loans (Mishkin, 1992, pp. 122 124). The decline in money supply follows the contraction of aggregate economic activity and the price level. It is worth mentioning, in the early view of monetarism, decreasing asset prices and increasing business failures cannot characterized as financial crisis, if no bank panic occurs (Mishkin, 1992, p. 116).... The unclear effect on credit demand occurs because the positive effect of declining interest rate and the negative effect of lower cost of equity. Second, demand for credit and asset prices increase if expectation for higher future asset prices exist. In that case, the result in money demand is not certain. The higher asset prices influence positively money demand but the expected return of real assets negatively. Since online and retail items require late production much of the wholesale business is pushed first through production. This allows for their wholesale to fulfill their orders, but not always the retail stores. To make matters worst, sometimes during the holidays their supplier would not be able to produce their containers needed for their production, which would also throw back production. Production planning becomes even more complicated because of the influence of the out of stocks, which would cause the sales graphs to be heavily distorted. The graphs would be distorted if items were out of stock for a month and the backorders were filled in a short period of time. Whenever there were overstock issues, retail stores would push the items through discounts. Often when there were out of stock issues for the wholesalers the company would take the supplies from their retail stores and divert it to the wholesaler s order. Lastly, when special orders were placed for wholesale, it was not uncommon for the production plans to be put on hold to focus on special orders. As a result from all the production errors, the sales graph would have unnatural spikes, yet these spikes would be included for planning production for the following year. • 14. The Problem Of A Free Lunch There s no such thing as a free lunch a very common saying in Economics because it emphasizes that every decision requires a trade off, and although one person may be getting a deal there is always another side to the story. John Komlos, a well respected Economist, felt economics students left their introductory classes under the impression that in the real world, perfect competition and efficiency are very common in the market, with few market failures, and government intervention in the economy is generally bad and leads to losses (2). In theory and for in class examples this view of the economy is very straight forward and makes teaching easier. However, in the real world; there is another side of the story. Free markets do have downsides and need some government regulationalongside being guided by morals. Americans pride themselves extensively on being free and letting the people choose how to live, but should everything in our country be left up to the public? The free market has the potential to be an efficient and positive system for all those involved. Theoretically, consumers make themselves heard through their purchasing power, this creates competition and ensures companies supply only quality products for fair prices (1). Unfortunately, creating competition also has a Darwin effect on the producers(1). Suddenly, rivalries are formed and making the highest profits becomes the sole purpose of the company. Research Proposal How Human Resource Policies Influence the Performance of Medium Sized Manufacturing Firms Name: Instructor: Institution: Course: Date: How Human Resource Policies Influence the Performance of Medium Sized Manufacturing Firms 1.Introduction Globalization has created a paradigm shift in the ways by which firms conduct their business. The convergence of world economies has minimized and in some cases eliminated both legislative and geographical barriers to international production and sale of goods and services. The flip side of this process is the increased competition for world markets created especially by the threat of multinational firms to local firms (Garry Litan, 1998). Local firms must find ways to compete and survive the threat of take over and crowding out of the market by multinational producers who enjoy favorable economies of scale. This is effectively achieved by ways of in themselves creating this very economy of scale; expanding business operations helps them lower the marginal cost of production allowing them to therefore provide a favorable pricing policy within the market. In achieving the aforementioned, firms must build up capacity. The attention of managers and researchers alike has been commonly directed towards assets in the sense of physical (fixed and current) and monetary assets (optimal capital structure) of the firm in achieving this objective. Perhaps as an oversight or of limited interest is the aspect of human ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 22. Objectification In The Sandman The Longing for Beauty In his early 19th century narrative The Sandman, E.T.A. Hoffmann attempts to express the possessiveness and obsessiveness of man that derives from appearance and sexuality. Hoffmann in particular utilizes Klara and Olympia to exemplify Nathaniel s objectification of either of them and his sub conscious ownership over both women. While Hoffmann degrades the standing of the women in the narrative, he subsequently draws on an obsession with outward appearance and beauty that is comparable to the Pygmalion myth. As Pygmalion attempts to have physical possession over the beauty of his sculpture, Hoffmann similarly paints Nathaniel as irrationally pursuing the possession or ownership of beauty through the female characters. Through the symbolic objectification of the female characters and the obsessive sexualized actions of Nathaniel, Hoffmann draws a parallel to the Pygmalion myth as beauty, grace, and sexuality become the apparent paramount measure of value and also reveals the pitfalls created by such obsessions. Throughout The Sandman, E.T.A. Hoffmann seeks to reveal the underlying references to the Pygmalion myth by first portraying the female characters as subordinate, possessive objects that are primarily defined by their beauty and are diminished to the standard of a piece of art. As the narrative progresses, the emphasis on beauty begins to intensify and Hoffmann begins to direct the illustration of the women through their outward appearance. ... Through disobedience, cultures gain the ability to evaluate situations in their entirety and construct decisions built off of careful consideration of the effects of their actions. Arjun, in The Bhagavad Gita, exhibits disobedience through his initial decision not to engage in combat on the battlefield; but, Arjun also discards his duties as a warrior through his protest. The Bhagavad Gita, through Arjun s rejection of war, reflects the concept of dharma (duty), jnana (knowledge), and yoga (discipline), which are integral components of Hinduism. Throughout The Bhagavad Gita, Arjun is constantly reminded of these very concepts through his conversations with Lord Krishna, concepts he would otherwise have failed to realize if he did not consider discarding his warrior duties and did not reject the ideas of fighting against his own kin. The Bhagavad Gita, through the momentous protest of Arjun, showcases the concepts of religious duty and obligations while also showcasing the philosophies of a higher spiritual power and acting for the benefit of society as a large. The Lisa And The Renaissance Art Of The Mona Lisa Beginning with the renaissance period and it s artistic contributions to the period we find one of, if not the most famous piece of art ever, The Mona Lisa. The Mona Lisa exemplifies the renaissance period and the era of renaissance art itself. Michelangelo Buonarroti painted the Mona Lisa in 1517 A.D. He s most famous for his fresco s in the Sistine Chapel, specifically the ceiling. However, the Mona Lisa is arguably the most copied piece of all time. I happen to have a copy in my home which I couldn t imagine being without. Renaissance was a cultural movement that spanned roughly from the 14th century to the 17th century. It saw some of the greatest artists in the history of mankind including Leonardo Da Vinciand MichelangeloBuonarroti. July 10, 2017 (https: //learnodo newtonic.com/famous renaissance paintings) One of the greatest artistic advancements of the Renaissance period was used to create the Mona Lisa. The technique is called Sfumato. Sfumato is the practice of blurring lines and softening blending tones and hues. Its attributed with fostering increased dimensional depth to ordinarily two dimensional art. While looking at the Mona Lisa and her seemingly plain features you begin to see the effects of Sfumato at work. From the blurred lines defining her soft lips to the shading around her soft eyes. The entire piece takes on a much softer appearance never before seen in such great application of art during this period. The Mona Lisa is truly humanistic. She s close by and in the forefront. Her hair is soft and her gaze is very relaxed. The natural light and rugged terrain behind her almost goes unnoticed. She s mesmerized admirers for centuries before and hopefully, for centuries to come. Rococo art can be seen influencing artist even today. If your viewing a whimsical, flirtatious or mischievous piece of art post 18th century, you re likely looking at Rococo inspired art. During the latter part of the 18th century Rococo art had evolved largely from the early Renaissance type art and Sfumato techniques. On a more psychological level, one could suggest that the hero s quest is symbolic of all personal conflict. Conflict begins when a problem arises that must be dealt with. Most people, at first, refuse to come to terms with whatever this problem may be, and attempt to ignore it. With enough mental determination and/or aid from an outside source, however, one can bring themselves to cross the first threshold, and begin their journey into the heart of the problem. Many struggled to survive during this difficult period, and as a result were forced to travel to seek any work they could. The novel Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck focuses on two itinerant men named George and Lennie, who struggled under the difficulty of these times. They find work at a ranch to fund their dream of owning their own ranch and being independent. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Among the most prominent of Lennie s sympathetic attributes is undoubtedly his frightened nature. This characteristic is conveyed consistently throughout the novel even when Lennie loses his temper it is due to fear. His timidity is often due to being scared of displeasing George, who acts as Lennie s father figure: Lennie looked timidly over to him. George? Here, Lennie appears to be asking for permission from George to ask a question, for fear that George will be angry. This demonstrates Lennie s timidity and lack of confidence, as well as his childishness and dependence on George. One significant incident which is used to establish this characteristic is when Curley attacks Lennie in the bunkhouse. Lennie is terrified, and the novel states that he covered his face with his huge paws and bleated with terror . Here, the author uses metaphor to compare Lennie to an animal. He describes Lennie s hands as paws, and the noise he is making as bleating. This reinforces the irony that Lennie is so physically powerful but so mentally weak, as, despite being strong, with paws like such of a bear, he is making a noise like that of a lamb. By characterising Lennie in this way, the author presents him as an fearful and innocent character, making the reader feel sympathy for him. • 36. A Comparison Of Cimon s Exile And Return ( Plutarch 136 ) Cimon was an Athenian military general living in the 6th and 5th century BCE. He was the son of Miltiades and Hegesipyle which made him very well known (Plutarch 120). Throughout his life, he lead many successful military missions as well as some unsuccessful. Cimon had a slight mishap when he advocated that there should be more cooperation between Athensand Sparta two rival states. As a result, he was ostracised from Athens for 10 years beginning in 461BC. Cimon eventually returned to Athens around 451BC when he started rebuilding the state. However, what often goes unnoticed is the effect Cimon had on creating democracyin Athens. The main action that influenced democracy in Athens was Cimon s exile and return (Plutarch 136). By all means being exiled did not make him a popular man; however, when he returned he gradually regained popularity by working hard for it. He returned at a lower level of power than he originally was which lead to his hard work and eventual death in battle. For these reasons, its obvious that Cimon had an effect on democracy in Athens. Because of his effort to regain popularity by hard working, Cimon proved that he could be a political leader; however, would never be appointed due to the fact that it was not democratic. The citizens of Athens regained Cimon s respect and would have likely voted him in power if there had been the opportunity. In that sense, Cimon influenced democracy in Athens because the people realized there are better people ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ample supply is keeping downward pressure on fossil fuel prices, coal, oil and natural gas. When and how will market dynamics change or might lower prices for some fuels be here to stay? The impact of local pollution, often energy related, on air quality is a matter of rising social and political concern in many countries. How can governments act to tackle this problem and what would these actions mean for the energy sector? The World Energy Outlook 2016 published by the International Energy Agency(IEA) is coming out in November and will shed some light on these questions with insightful analysis. In the meantime, there is one matter that everyone can agree on: for the near future, energy demand will continue to grow. A situation is funny because of the misinterpretation of someone s actions or the complete conflict of what a situation seems to be and what it really is. People come into contact with sight gags all the time. One might be trying to be sneaky and hide something and then when someone looks, one pretends to be doing something else not to get caught. One could also pantomime using an umbrella as a baseball bat. These are both basic forms of sight gags. Sight gags are an essential part of comedy, especially the silent comedies of Charlie Chaplin s time. A sight gag is a visual form of comedy. In this form of comedy, the actors rely on... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The accuser, however, had not seen that Chaplin had put the money in her pocketin the first place. This misunderstanding makes the scene funny when the man tells the woman to check her pockets and she is overjoyed to find money. The second sight gag discussed is the mimed metaphor, which is when an actor uses pantomime as a gag. For this, the actor uses an object that is very recognizable and pantomimes something that is not its proper use. This is a kind of visual simile, and is generally used in silent films more than sound films. The mimed metaphor is different from the mutual interface gag in that there are not multiple points of view to consider, they often do not result in mishaps, and commonly deal with objects rather than events. The mimed metaphor is used in the film The Count, in which at one point Chaplin s character uses his cane like a pool cue in order to hit an object off the table. At the beginning of The Immigrant Chaplin s character is hanging over the side of the boat. The audience gets the impression that he is seasick, however we soon learn that he is actually just fishing. This is a perfect example of switch image. • 46. Analysis Of Fortune Hath Taken Thee Away My Love Fortune fine or poor, remains a top priority in Sir Walter Raleigh s poem, Fortune Hath Taken Thee Away, My love. Each stanza is drenched in depressing diction; as a result, not much of the poem can be taken so literally. There are six quatrains in this poem: In the first quatrain, the author introduces to the reader he has lost his love because fortune took it or her away; never in the poem does the author give a specific answer as to who or what his love is. Although, in the third line, Raleigh does refer to his love as princess, so we could assume the subject of this poem and his love is female. Continuing on to the second quatrain, the man goes on to say fortune took away everything from him, just by taking his love away. Because of this, the author now makes fortune, itself, a mortal enemy. Next, in the third quatrain, the author becomes angry, telling himself all of the reactions to the loss are in vain. He curses his eyes for weeping, his sighs and his continued search for his love. Moving into the fourth quatrain, the author accepts sorrow as his new princess, in place of the one he lost; he begins to accept his new loss. In comparison to the second quatrain, in the fifth, the author is almost glad to be able to experience any kind of fortune, due to the fact even kings experience fortune. Finally, in the sixth quatrain the author brings in the supernatural force of Cupid. He goes on to say if Cupid had used wisdom s eyes, the author would not be suffering as ... It is unbelievable to think that an action of what a person does in the present, can either lead to nothing or it can become a catastrophe event. In Things Fall Apart, Achebe writes about the Nigerian culture through the events that happen to the main character which is Okonkowo. In Cosmopolitism, Appiah writes about the different values, morals, and cultures people in the world have and how people can live together despite having differences. The event that could have had a different outcome was when the Abmae elders decided to execute the white missionary man and later on the group of white people massacred the Abmae village. If the characters in the event were more cosmopolitan with the concept of understanding each other and uncalled for punishment, then the event could have been a different outcome. When one applies Appiah s idea of understanding each other and uncalled for punishment in Cosmopolitism to the event in Things Fall Apart, the event changes to when the elders would not have executed the white missionary man and therefore there would be no massacre from the group of white people. When the white man riding a bicycle came to the Abmae village, the villagers were horrified to see a foreigner. The white man who came to Abmae did not cause any harm to the villagers and yet the elders of the Abmae village decided to execute the white man. The villagers did not try to understand why the white man was here for. In Cosmopolitism, Appiah states One truth we hold ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

After accumulating an imposing record of Supreme Court opposition to state sponsored discriminatory chauvinism, including the landmark Brown v. Board decision in 1954, President John F. Kennedy appointed Thurgood Marshall to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. While in this position, he wrote over 150 decisions including support for the rights of immigrants, limiting government intrusion in cases involving illegal search and seizure, double jeopardy, and right to privacy issues. • 54. Claude Debussy Nonconforming Style With strict guidelines and rules, one often finds a sense of order and proper balance. This is a common philosophy across many realms. Without order or balance, there is often chaos and calamity and many people find that uncomfortable, to say the least. However, there are a few that thrive by breaking the rules or simply ignoring them altogether. Claude Debussyonce said that he did not write in a particular style because he knew the style (Lederer 15). This is to say that he knew the outcome of following the rules and he wanted to create something better which would require that he toss all rules aside. This sentiment is one that Debussy carried throughout his entire life and is present in all his works. In his first published work, Nuit d etoiles, he demonstrates his first example of his nonconforming style as well as musicthat is not just expression of feelingbut a feeling itself. From a very early age, it was apparent that Claude Debussy was incredibly talented. It was also apparent from the start that he despised many of the forms and foundational teachings of the prestigious school, the Paris Conservatory, much to the dismay of a somewhat archaic faculty. However, despite his utterly unorthodox (Roberts 36) methods and approaches to his schoolwork, Debussy s teachers recognized his ingenious and respected his burning need to find expression for the sounds in his imagination (Lederer 15). Battle Of Ap Bac Essay The Battle of Ap Bac The battle of Ap Bac was a small battle engaged between the Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN) and the insurgents, or the People Liberation Armed Forces (Viet Cong AKA VC) with the assistance of American s weapons and advice during the Vietnam War. It took place on 2 January, 1963, near a small village named Ap Bac which is located approximately 65 km southwest of Saigon in the Mekong Delta. (Starry, 2002). As a senior leader, it is important that we have to be technically and tactically proficient. That way, we know what needs to be improved, how to sustain it, and how would we execute it better next time.
