Persuasive Essay About Ice Skating
Ice skating can be a difficult sport to learn because there are many steps to learn before you can
even think about going into a competition. To be able to start you will need a pair of professional
ice skates, ice skating nylons, a ice skating dress or clothes suited to practice in like loose
sweatpants and a long sleeves. First, you need to learn the basics of ice skating. You need to be able
to balance on the ice without holding onto the wall, falling, and wobbling side to side. In order
to move on to the next step you have to skate smoothly with ease so you will look professional to
the judges. At the beginning you will most likely fall a lot, especially if you are not used to
balancing onto a pair of shoes with a thin blade attached... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You two will keep doing that until you are able to do it on your own without the help of your
instructor. Before you start to make your routine, you will have to choose a song that will match
perfectly with your routine in the making. It may sound hard to pick the perfect song for a
routine that is not even made up yet, but for the first part all you have to do is find a song that
you will be able to skate and dance to. The most important rule you should remember while you
are picking you song is that the song has to be absolutely clean or else the judges will either
deduct points from your score or you will be disqualified it will most likely be the latter. Once
you picked out a song give it to your instructor to listen to and see if they approve of your choice
of music. The second part is that your instructor will either be able to make up a routine to go
along with the music you had chosen or they will tell you to choose a different song. Another
option is that they can choose a song for you to skate to. The reason why the last two options are
there is because your instructor may not like the music you had chosen since before they even
listen to the music you chosen they are already figuring out what will be put in your routine and
how it will be put together. Next, you will begin practicing your routine in parts before you

How Apps Can Promote Android App
Ten Ways to Promote Your iOS App in 2016 With the resources available today, it has never been
easier to make an iOS app. As a result, there has also never been as much competition in the app
store. Without proper promotion tactics, it is very easy for your app to be buried under the
other thousands of other iOS apps also competing for a limited amount of iOS users. It isn t
enough to simply have a useful app anymore, the app needs to be marketed and promoted to
become and stay relevant. So to help you get your iOS app into the hands of users, here are ten
ways to help you promote your iOS app in 2016. Have a short, concise description of your app
The description of your app is the first thing your customer will see, so it is essential that they
know exactly what purpose the app serves. Not only should your app description be accurate, it
should also be short and to the point. Time is an invaluable asset and today, more than ever
before, people don t want to waste any more of it than necessary. Because of this, having a clear
and to the point summary of your app is more likely to bring in more users than a longer one. A
clear description of your app will also reduce the amount of uninstalls caused by users thinking
the app does something that it does not. Give the market time to review your app before launch
Allowing people to beta test or review your app before its official release not only allows users to
weed out potential bugs in your app, it also allows your

Republican Party Dbq Essay
In the past, the Democratic party was known as the conservative, traditional party that fully
supported state government while the Republican party was a supporter of the federal government
control. The Republican party began as Lincoln s party which caught the attention and support of
the colored voters. In contrast, the Democratic partywas predominantly white during this time with
ideas to keep the rights of the state and the traditions of the South. Though these two parties have
opposing views, they began to clash and redirect their beliefs. Over time the two main political
parties have changed their platforms based on the issues of desegregation, racism in the South and
placement of federal government.

As the Democratic platform changed, the Republican party became very conservative and defended
state s rights due to its opposition to what was called big government (Rise of Rep. Party, p.
567). On the issue of race, the Republican party fully supported that the white race was superior
and the state had its own right to remain segregated. A key politician that represents this change
was the former Senator Jesse Helms. Religion was the driving force of his political views and he
was very vocal about his opinions. His campaign developed the concept of the New Right which
refers to the Christian church stepping into the realm of politics (Jesse Helms Doc). In the 1970s
and the 1980s, many organizations became available, such as the Christian Coalition and Moral
Majority, to support the church having political influence. Since the church became a part of
political campaigns, politicians became more reserved in their discrimination in a perception known
as Southern Strategy. This popular technique was used mainly by the Republican party that was
extremely traditional known as the Tea Party or far right . The first politician to introduce the idea
was President Nixon in 1960, through his speeches to the people. The Southern Strategy technique
is used when the speaker uses choices of words to convey a negative, underlying meaning without
blatantly stating their opinion (class discussion). As an example, Nixon expressed his support of
state s rights as a way of admitting that he supported the continuation of segregation in the

The Narrative Paradigm By Scott Stroud
Scott Stroud in his article Multivalent narratives: Extending the Narrative Paradigm with Insights
from Ancient Indian Philosophical Texts critiques the narrative paradigm by pointing out its
weaknesses and proposing revisions to the existing paradigm using ancient Indian philosophical
narratives. Stroud claims that Fisher s paradigm is too limiting and conservative when dealing with
foreign concepts and texts. The narrativeparadigm does not allow people to experience new
stories that may differ from their traditional stories challenging their values and/ or accepting new
ones (Stroud, p. 372). Our judgment of a narrative is based on what we believe is just or true. New
ideas or thoughts or values are not given a chance using the... Show more content on

Knowing that man is separate from Dattatreya will lead to the mind being cleansed and salvation.
This narrative also says that Dattatreya is of this world, residing in everything of earth. The story
argues against the separation of the subordinate and the deity, saying, There is no Shepard, no
flock (as cited in Stroud, 2002). The deity tells man in order to achieve salvation he must meditate
and work, but man should do neither in order to gain reward, taking care to chose actions wisely as
those choices will impact future salvation (Stroud, 2002, p. 382). This text is full of contradictions;
the deity is separate from man, the deity is with man and of the world, meditate and work to gain
salvation, meditation and work are not important and will not gain man salvation. The second
text is equally confusing and contradictory within itself and to the first text. The Devi Gita is a
goddess of divine power who urges the reader to be devout only to her. She says she is also
separate from the world, only later in the text to claim she is of this world and with man.
Meditation is important to achieve salvation however meditating in hopes of salvation or to please
the ego is not pleasing to her. Stroud claims that the narrative paradigm as it is now is not efficient
in rendering an outcome for the western reader of these texts, which involve incoherence

Essay about Vocational Teacher Education Reform
Vocational Teacher Education Reform
The reform movements of the 1980s triggered numerous demands to reexamine and reform the way
students and their teachers are educated. This Digest examines the implications for vocational
teacher education emerging from general teacher education reform movements. It discusses how
excellence in vocational education teaching can be achieved and proposes 21st century models for
vocational teacher education.
Impacts of Reform Movements on Vocational Teacher Education
Several of the major reform initiatives of the 1980s and early 1990s argued that improving
education requires improving teacher quality and, accordingly, teacher education. Numerous
changes in teacher recruitment, preparation, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In response to mounting evidence of the deterioration of vocational teacher education, (Dykman
1993), the University Council for Vocational Education and the National Association of State
Directors of Vocational Technical Education Consortium formed a joint task force that identified 13
points for initiating a reform process entailing designing and implementing a customer driven
learning system and an accountability system (Lynch 1997). Like earlier publications examining
general teacher education, the responses to the task force report focused on the need for excellence
in vocational teacher education.
Issues in Achieving Excellence
Debate on the question of how to pursue excellence in vocational teacher education programs
focused on vocational education s mission, audience, and delivery.
New Mission? Until the advent of the reform movement, vocational education had been viewed
as a separate system of education intended to meet the nation s labor needs by providing below
college level training for specific occupations (Lynch 1997). In the late 1980s, that view began to
change. Borrowing words used by Dewey in 1916, Tozer and Nelson (1988) urge vocational
teacher educators to teach prospective teachers to provide students with generalizable higher order
skills by teaching through vocations instead of for vocations (p. 22). Sharp (1996), in his discussion
of the transition to a post Fordist economy, asserts that the recent

Partially hydrogenated oils have been used by manufacturers for years. The FDA has decided to
remove PHOs from all manufacturers due to extensive research into the effects of PHOs. Partially
hydrogenated oils have been determined not to be GRAS, generally recognized as safe (Center).
Although the FDA had decided that PHOs are unhealthy many sources say that fats are needed for
body functions. In high amounts fats are going to be bad for the body but, with any type of foodthat
is the case and it is the job of the consumer to watch their eating habits. PHOs have a purpose of
why manufacturers use them and even though they are said to lower cholesterol but, that s not the
whole truth. The FDA s decision that Partially Hydrogenated Oils are unsafe is another unnecessary

Fatty acids in the oil then absorb some of the hydrogen and becomes more dense. If the
manufacturer were to fully hydrogenate the oil, it would become a solid, basically a fat. When the
hydrogenation process is stopped half way, this is when it becomes partially hydrogenated oil. PHO
s are a butter substitute and have the same consistency(Armstrong). What complete hydrogenation
of fats does is turn healthful unsaturated fats into fully saturated fats. This is the equivalent to
regular, saturated, animal fat and since this animal fat and complete hydrogenation is essentially the
same this doesn t work. The solution was partially hydrogenated oils so that some of the
unsaturated molecules would remain and the product would remain healthy ( The

An Evaluation Of A Marketing Audit
A marketing audit is a systematic approach to examining existing products and services for
strengths and weaknesses. It often focuses on the Ps of marketing including product, price,
place, and promotion along with other elements. The purpose of the marketing audit is to
appraise the organization s current status and provide recommendations for future action.
Darlene Weingand (1999) adapted Philip Kotler s definition of a marketing audit. It s a
comprehensive, systematic, independent, periodic examination of the information agency s
total environment, objectives, strategies, activities, and resources in order to determine problem
areas and opportunities and to recommend a plan of action. An audit is used to identify
capabilities and challenges in the organization. This assessment should include both internal and
external investigations. The internal aspect focuses on the library itself, while the external
aspect explores the larger organization, the local community, and the larger country. The marketing
audit provides the basis for making informed decisions about library activities. What s realistic and
unrealistic for your organization? What makes your programs unique? What changes need to be
made in the library s programs and services? http://eduscapes.com/marketing/2.htm TABLE OF

The Cambodian Genocide Essay
The Cambodian Genocide took place from 1975 to 1979 in the Southeastern Asian country of
Cambodia. The genocide was a brutal massacre that killed 1.4 to 2.2 million people, about 21% of
Cambodia s population. This essay, will discuss the history of the Cambodian genocide,
specifically, what happened, the victims and the perpetrators and the world s response to the
genocide. The Cambodian Genocide has the historical context of the Vietnam War and the country
s own civil war. During the Vietnam War, leading up to the conflicts that would contribute to the
genocide, Cambodia was used as a U.S. battleground for the Vietnam War. Cambodia would
become a battle ground for American troops fighting in Vietnam for four years; the war would kill

Also, religious leaders like monks, and Christian missionaries would be killed. These victims
would be persecuted, because they went against the ideals of communism, like the professionals
and intellectuals being educated, the monks and missionaries being religious, and minorities
going against Pol Pot s idea of a pure Cambodian society. The genocide s process and method of
killing was through prisons and killing fields. The urban city dweller population was evacuated
to the countryside, those who were elderly, frail, disabled, basically incapable of making the
journey, and those who seemed to be against the new regime were killed on the spot. When the
rest of the people reached the countryside they were forced to do farm work in an effort to put
society back to an agrarian society starting at year zero. Many people would also die of starvation,
malnutrition, and disease or for committing supposed crimes. Prison were also used, such as the
now infamous prison S 21, that was once a high school that was used for some of the most brutal
and gruesome killings. It was used to interrogate people and force people into admitting to having
committed crimes. It was used from mid1975 to 1979. Approximately 17,000 people were killed
here. People were forced into admitting to crimes through torture techniques, such as hanging,
drowning, electric shock, and other methods. The prisoners were well documented,

TITLE: Word Association Test
ABSTRACT:
The formation of word association and perceptual defense aim to measure signs of emotional
complexes and to be able to identify the degree of threshold for each selected stimulus. The
apparatus needed were paper, pencil and ninety nine (99) stimulus words. For the procedure, the
experiment has 1 phase: determination of association reaction time and the measurement of
recognition thresholds. Ninety nine carefully chosen words were presented one at a time. The
experiment concludes that there were different signs of emotional complexes and different degree
of threshold for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The observes reacted with GSR s of significantly greater magnitude during the pre recognition
presentation of the critical words than they did before recognizing the neutral words. In addition,
the observes displayed significantly higher thresholds recognition for the critical than for the neutral
words. Hypotheses made before recognition of the charged words were of such a nature as to
indicate resistance to recognizing these words. The findings are interpreted as representing
conditioned avoidance of verbal symbols having unpleasant meanings to the observer. The stimulus
word serves as cue to deeply imbedded anxiety which is revealed in automatic reactivity as
measured by the GSR. Avoidance of further anxiety is contemporaneously aroused in the form of
perceptual defense again. ( http://faculty.unsfsu.edu/tvancantfort/syllabi/gresearch/readings

later by a presentation of second list. It was found that six of twelve subjects showed higher and
two subjects lower threshold to emotional words on both occasions. Correlation between two test in
terms of individual performance was highly significant ( Singer, 1956) Words associated with either
avoidance habits or disruptive states, unfamiliar words, moderately familiar words connected

Wonder Woman The Theory Of Habitus Analysis
It is said that war never changes and that all war revolves around power. However, like religion,
war is not just what we see on the surface, but instead an intricate system revolving around many
factors. In the Movie Wonder Woman the Theory of Habitus is evident as the historical and societal
context shapes the way Diana thinks and fights in the war. Nye s reference to habitus as a set of
habitual arrangement through which people give significance to social conventions through
historical origins (Nye 2008, 125) , closely ties in with Diana s belief that to end the war
happening between man, she must find and kill the god of war Ares, and based on historical
context, that is what she must do to restore peace. Diana believes that war revolves... Show more

I have come to a personal conclusion that the study of religion has many more kinks and grooves
that are crucial to a complete understanding of what religion truly means. To me religion
appeared mundane, I am personally of Lebanese descent and Sunni sect of Islam, and although
my father s side of the family finds religion as something of great importance and significance to
our culture, I never truly understood the entire affiliation and meaning and therefore wasn t
driven to learn it either way. However, throughout observing the film that I chose for this
assignment: Wonder Woman, I came to various realizations as to how my religious views come
in contact with my culture, not only that but alongside the idea of ritualistic behaviour and many
of the psychological aspects of how we confide in our practices. The whole idea of observing
something that appears so simplistic such as a movie based on DC comics through the scope of
religion, when it is given context in the form of the three chapters we have read: Belief, Rituals
and Text. and the various sub contexts each one of these aspects of religion have. What I have
learned really matters to me on a conscious level as it has molded my view of religion as a whole
and connected me on a more immediate note with my own beliefs and practices. It has mentally

High Demand For Off Campus Housing Essay
Everyone will have to search for housing at some point in their life but for most JMU students
this process begins after only a few weeks of living in a dorm your freshman year of college. The
thought of signing a lease this early into the school year with friends that you have only known
since coming to JMU can be very exciting and scary at the same time. there is such high demand
for off campus housing that they tend to fill up very fast and early in the school year. Most
students at JMU will only live in a dorm their freshman year and then move into apartments for the
rest of their collegeexperience. This is a helpful guide for students looking for housing including
my own experience signing a lease, whether living off campus is cheaper than living on campus,
and what your options are for living off campus.
My Own Experience:
My search for housing began only six weeks after I had packed my entire life up and moved
from New Hampshire to JMU. Thankfully my sister is currently a senior here at JMU so she
knew how important it was to sign a lease quickly because of how fast the housing complexes fill
up. According to the Best College Rankings from US News and World Report, 13 percent of the
students live in college owned, operated or affiliated housing and 87 percent of students live off
campus at James Madison University ( James Madison... ). Since so many students live off
campus, my friends and I decided that we were not going to live in the dorms again next year so we

Women Are More Successful, Powerful And Recognized
These articles provide me new and significantly important way of becoming aware and conscious
in such a way that the women are not standard or commercialized as objects. Instead I think
women must be perceived and have the same rights and privileges as men. This is exactly the
reason that I appreciate and like these articles as they provide rational explanations about the female
personal images, perceptions, self awareness, and self consciousness. I would say now women are
more successful, powerful and recognized than in the past. As being the essential ingredient of a
society, they have to work along with men to prove themselves. I think that they have to overcome
many difficult situations.
On the other hand, the article that I did not like is Guyland , and I know that this article is not
realistic and just based on the fantasy. However, I did not like some contexts in Guyland . I did
not like the idea where the author, Michael Kimmel described Guyland as a place where guys go
to become men and single men stay there because they no longer have to face the stresses of the
world. Also, there were some anti feminists things that were offensive to a great extent. The first
time the writer mentions women, he states that men don t like women, but they like girls because
girls are sexy which does not fit my brain. I hate it because it is insulting women by only limiting
them to the use of their appearances. Also, the second thing which seems offensive to me from the

Olympic Pride Does Not Permit Sexual Discriminaiton
It matter not who you love, where you love, why you love, when you love or how you love, it
matters only that you love (John Lennon). LGBTQ; a growing cause that has been heard by many
people across the globe, Gay marriage and equality is no longer just a farfetched idea but has
become a reality for many nations across the world who have accepted and legalized the acceptance
of LGBTQ community members within society. Some have accepted while other fought against
this notion of legalization, though many citizens have come to terms with this new ideology that
has been incorporated within modern society. Although members of the LGBTQ society and the
thousands that accept the community have protested and gathered together to fight for the equality
of all nations there is still some that do not agree with this notion. Protestors yelling, news reporters
capturing the seen for people millions of miles away, and discrimination could be found at the 2014
Winter Olympic Gameslocated in Sochi, Russia. This year s Olympic Games were on the bounds of
discrimination against the LGBTQ community not just from Russia s own citizens but
discrimination towards many visiting athletes from the 200 nations that participated in the games.
The LGBTQ community has fought many battles over the past few decades, fighting for their right
for equality, their right to liberty and their right to even be allowed to love the person they want to
love. The Olympics is the time where countries put

Wizard Of Oz Theme Essay
Judging a book by it s cover is often something we do as a human s and being insecure about
ourselves and wanting to improve ourselves. L. Frank Baum shows these two themes consistently
in The Wizard of Oz. The Wizard of Oz depicts the struggles of the main character Dorothy
wanting to go back home and her meeting friends who would want to change things about
themselves. They all work together on a fantastic adventure to go find the Wizard to help fulfill
what they want for themselves. In the beginning of The Wizard of Ozstarts off with Dorothy. She
lives on a farm in Kansas with her Uncle Henry and Aunt Em. ( The Wizard of Oz Ch.1, par 4.)
It was an unusual day and the clouds were dark and cyclone started to form. Dorothy was in her
room and a tornado hit her house. She ended up falling and hit her head and went into a deep
sleep. She wakes up in a house, with bright shining light. The house that Dorothy lands on

The House of the Seven Gables is a metaphorical, symbolic, and romantic. The house and the
characters are all symbols for something greater and can be linked back to society. These symbols
still have influence today, because the problems the Pyncheon family faced still goes on today.
That problem that plagued the family for generation is greed. Indeed, Greed is the main crisis in
the story. The curse of Colonel Pyncheon affected the entire family for generations. Judge
Pyncheon continued this curse by acting upon his greed. This leads to him dying in the same why

unlucky inheritor. She lost her wealth and fallen to a working class state. Her situation is the

The Built Environment At The Gardens Of Versailles
A review of the built environment at the Gardens of Versailles provides a rich perspective into
the political culture during the Age of Enlightenment as one defined by the absolute rule of the
monarch. Gardens at Versailles were first built by Louis XIII; however, it was during the reign
of Louis XIV that the gardens were extensively expanded and adorned into the spectacle
Versailles is known for today. Perhaps catalyzed by a hurt ego after the construction of Fouquet s
grand Vaux le Vicomte which was suspected to have been built using embezzled crown funds1, in
1661 Louis XIV began his epic project of the gardens designed almost entirely as an expression of
his absolute power. Andres Le NГґtre, Versailles leading landscape architect, believed in the basic
conception that landscape should be more impressive than the buildings it comprehends2. With
over 800 hectares of gardens, the size of Versailles alone is quite daunting. Using forced
perspective, Le NГґtre, further extended the site in the mind s eye creating a scale incomparable to
the surrounding villages3. No doubt those who visited the gardens were filled with awe, perhaps
even fear. Versailles provided an almost urban environment, housing France s aristocracy. Though
the nobility was relatively pampered, there was no question that the king was in charge. Elaborate
terracing, for example, gave the gardens hierarchical structure symbolizing feudal society,
purposefully reinforcing the nobility s servility by literally

Summary Of A Midwife s Tale
Historian Laurel Thatcher Ulrich provides a glimpse of America post Revolutionary war
through her critically acclaimed book, A Midwife s Tale, which is the interpretation of Martha
Ballard s seemingly humble diary a record of her life as a midwife, mother, wife, and caregiver
from 1785 through 1812. The book features Ballard s account of her average day s activities,
which, in turn, serves to represent the tasks of women in her society; however, Ulrich cross
references the diary with documents such as court transcripts, land records, maps, and other
diaries in order to piece together a more detailed account than one gathered solely from Ballard s
words. While popular belief envisions women in this timeframe as being constrained to the home
and a litter of children, it is Ballard s diary that reveals that women played a major role in other
aspects of society, including the market economy, medicine and childbirth, versus just being
mothers and homemakers.
Ballard s society was undoubtedly patriarchal, with her diary depicting a separation between men
s and women s work, not only in the making of products but in in the management and use of
resources. While men did the hunting, farming, or major trading, women produced things like
candles, soap, thread, and cloth, which they traded amongst the other women in the area. In
September of 1788, Ballard wrote that, she [Mrs. Savage] has spun 40 double skeins for me since
April 15th and had two bushl (sic.) of ashes some phisic

is an author that uses this talent in his stories. Although he is diagnosed with schizophrenia, he
still remains an important figure in the history of literature. Poe utilizes many ways to describe
himself through writing, such as a great adjective used for describing scenes as well as a clear,
unique tone and mood. His works have been read all over the world, and should have a spot to be
studied in a classroom because it helps students understand a more diverse variety of literature and

He even gives a strange flavor to the story, for instance [u]pon the eighth night [he] was more than
usually cautious in opening the door, (Poe The Tell Tale Heart ). This is appealing, as anything
could have happened on the first through seventh night, but something about the eighth night
makes the scene suspicious. Then, by knowing that, the reader can assume it is eerie and
mysterious. The Cask of Amontillado, a short story of a person jealous of Fortunato s connoisseur
skills, and decides to kill him peacefully, the narrator states with anger The thousand injuries of
Fortunato [he] had borne as [he] could, but when [Fortunato] ventured upon insult [he] vowed
revenge... [Fortunato is] luckily met. How remarkably well [Fortunato is] looking to day. But [he
has] received a pipe of what passes for Amontillado, and [he] have [his] doubts, (Poe The Cask of
Amontillado ). The fact where towards the beginning, he hates Fortunato a lot makes this quote off
from his intentions. This time, he warmly greets him, which is unusual and suspicious for what
will happen. The narrator seems joyful in that current scene, but mysterious at the same time. Sure,
the best way to settle an argument is not to give revenge, yet in his story, the narrator thinks this is
the only way to get Fortunato back. By using a strange and unusual tone and mood, Poe is able to
create an exquisite way

In this essay I will define what is judiciary and be discussing the statement that there is a strong
case for more diverse judiciary. Not only should there be equality of opportunity for those entitled
to apply . I will discuss about the judiciary that reflect the diversity and legal profession as whole,
make reference to the role of the judiciary, their selection, and training.
Judiciary is a system that interprets and execute the laws in the state, the role of the judiciary is
to supervise the conduct of a trial, sole arbiter of legal issues, has the power to deal with civil
cases and decide the result, interpret and clarify the law, has the right to deal with criminal cases
and to sum up to the jury and to pass sentence on those who plead guilty or have been convicted.
For many centuries the House of Lords was the supreme court of appeal for the entire UK in civil
cases and for England, Wales and Northern Ireland in criminal case. There are three types of legal
system in the United Kingdom and these are executive, government and legislature; one each for
England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. There was a time where Scotland, Ireland and later

How Is Fred Hampton Justified
= a= Who was Fred Hampton? Well, you may not know who he is because we don t learn about
people like him in school too often. Fred Hampton was an African American activist, who was
chairman of the Chicago branch of the Black Panther Party. Hampton was assassinated in his
sleep during a raid of his apartment carried out by Chicago police officers. He was killed because
the FBI saw him as a major threat. Fred Hampton s assassination was not justified because the
police officers responsible for the murder were not held accountable for their actions. Also,
Hampton fought for what we believed was right, just like several other people who were
assassinated during the time of the Civil Rights movements. Lastly, Fred Hampton s assassination...

They were a lot more aggressive with getting their point across and for that reason; the FBI felt
the need to kill Fred Hampton. Lastly, the police officers should not have killed Fred Hampton
because he did not attack them the night of the raid. On the night that police planned to raid
Hampton s apartment, he was at home sleeping. The police took it upon themselves to go into
his home, and shoot him as he was sleeping. Not only did they kill Fred Hampton, but they killed
Mark Clark. Mark Clark was another leader of the Black Panthers during the time, and he just so
happened to be in Hampton s apartment with him the night of the raid. This was not justified
because Hampton had done nothing to harm the police officers that night. It was already horrible
enough that they decided to raid his home, but then killing him took it over the edge. If they were
attacked by Fred Hampton that would be a more sufficient reason as to why the police officers felt
like they had to shoot him. Although, the Black Panthers were known for killing cops and
revolutionary politics, but unless Fred Hampton was in the act of trying to kill a cop, there is no
reason why he had to be killed. In conclusion, Fred Hampton s assassination

Great Expectations by Charles Dickens and Jude the Obscure by Thomas Hardy both deal with
social class and the presence of suffocating social norms. The themes of these two novels are
embodied in their women. The female characters in both Jude the Obscure and Great Expectations

Starting a Makeup Line
Research and Design
One of the most important steps in starting a makeup line is finding a research lab to work with,
which is where most of my time will be spent. (Marlena, 2012) In a research lab I will decide
what ingredients that I want in my line. It is very important to find a lab that is credible and
trustworthy. There are many expensive brands in the industry that are in the higher range of
prices. I want my line to be affordable therefore I need a affordable lab that will help me create
quality products. Another important step is finding a factory for packaging and filling. This is
where I will be able to decide how I want my line to look. Smart packaging helps its targeted
consumers feel an emotional attachment to a brand. (Jarski,2014) choosing the smartest color
scheme, shape, and design of my product can determine how well my product can sell. About one
third of a consumer s decision to purchase something is its display or packaging. Especially in the
beauty market today, I have to make sure my products appeal to consumers. Cosmetics is all about
empowerment therefore I need a product that is going to appeal to that side of a woman.
According to the graph, many women have an emotional attachment to makeup which makes them
feel in control (Gaillie, 2013) It is important for me to

continually struggles to compete with other American professional sports leagues when it
comes to television ratings. Specifically the National Football League is one of the most

States today. The questions that need to be answered are how can the NHL market their product
to the consumer through television in a way that can compete with the NFL? Why has the NFL
been so successful where the NHL has not? In what areas of marketing through television can the
NHL improve? How does the sport itself affect the television ratings? Finally, is there a

Similarities Between Rip Van Winkle And Young Goodman Brown
Nature: An Escape from Reality Throughout the story of Rip Van Winkle written by Washington
Irving and the tale of Young Goodman Brown authored by Nathaniel Hawthorne, nature acts as a
refuge for both of the main characters in the stories. In the story of Rip Van Winkle, Rip
ventures into the woods to escape his nagging wife at home, using the setting of nature as a
refuge from his life at home to escape his miserable home life. Rip s wife nags so much that he
uses the Kaatskill mountains as a refuge from her henpecking ways, ...his wife kept continually
dinning in his ears about his idleness, his carelessness, and the ruin he was bringing on his family.
Morning, noon, and night, her tongue was incessantly going. (956). In contrast, in the story of
Young Goodman Brown, Goodman Brown leaves his wife, Faith, for three months to complete a
suspicious errand in the woods. In contrast to Rip, Goodman Brown uses nature as a refuge from
his faith in God, not his nagging wife at home, in fact he loves his wife dearly. Despite the fact that
nature is an apparent topic throughout both stories, it is my claim that Washington Irvingdoes a
better job of presenting the use of the theme of nature being a refuge due to his use of symbolism,
setting, and characters to illustrate the theme that nature acts as a a refuge. The story of Rip Van...

The Apostles and the Early Church
The Apostles and the Early Church
J.Trimble
GBST 164
In the Gospel of Matthew the term apostles is only used when introducing the list of twelve
apostles commissioned to follow Christ. Now the names of the twelve Apostles are these: the first,
Simon who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother;
Philip, and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew the publican; James the son of Alpheus, and
Lebbeus, whose surname was Thaddeus; Simon the Canaanite, and Judas Iscariot, who also
betrayed him (Matthew 10:1 4). An apostle is a person sent to accomplish a mission. An apostle

Gigot). The change of Simon s name by Jesus was significant. As in the case of Abram, Sarai and
Jacob, the change of destiny is indicated by the change of name. This name Cephas is taken from
the Aramaic vernacular and corresponds to the Greek Peter, Petros, which means a piece of
rock a mass of rock detached from the living rock (T. Butler). It is a term which becomes a
natural emblem of firmness and stability. It may be hard for us to see the fitness of such a name
for a man apparently so unstable; but the fitness was perceived by Christ. Peter wavered often,
even while under his Master s eye, and at least once afterward, but he continually became more
and more like the rock that Christ wanted him to be and he was indeed a pillar of the church (W.B.
Hill).
We observe that all the time Christ was with the Twelve, Peter was a leader among them.
Occasionally, Christ would select certain ones for special responsibilities; for example: Peter,
James and John to witness the raising of Jarius daughter, the transfiguration, and the agony in the
garden (G. Stokes). Now, why were these particular men selected on these occasions to be the
recipients of special privileges and the bearers of the attendant responsibilities? Certainly not
because they possessed greater authority than the other apostles, but because here

Essay on Physician-Assisted Suicide
Suicide is one person s personal decision; physician assisted suicide is a patient who is not
capable of carrying the task out themselves asking a physician for access to lethal medication.
What people may fail to see however is that the physician is not the only healthcare personnel
involved; it may include, but is not limited to, a physician, nurse, and pharmacist. This may conflict
with the healthcare worker s own morals and there are cases in which the patient suffers from
depression, or the patient is not receiving proper palliative care. Allowing physician assisted suicide
causes the physician to become entangled in an ethical and moral discrepancy and has too many
other issues surrounding it for it to be legal. Physician assisted... Show more content on

Physician assisted suicide was first made legal in the state of Oregon. (Hendin) In cases of
euthanasia, physicians often give lethal doses of a medication to terminate a patient s life because
they re experiencing intolerable pain. Patients who wish to use the Death with Dignity law in
Oregon must be eighteen or older, must be a resident of Oregon, and they must be able to make
their own health care decisions. (Sharp 53) However, the law does not require the patient to be in
unmanageable pain, they must just have a prognosis of less than six months to live. (Sharp 54)
This law seems to be in place to kill patients more quickly to open up hospital space, instead of
compassionately ending someone s suffering.
Oregon s physicians are required by law to recommend hospice and palliative care, but are often
not qualified, therefore only thirteen percent of dying patients get to hear their alternatives.
(Hendin) Oregon also does not require a psychiatric evaluation when a patient makes a request for
suicide. (Hendin) Studies have shown that 13 77% of patients who request assisted suicide are
suffering from depression; however, psychiatrists believe that depression is a normal response to a
severe illness. (Boyd) Also, patients who are aware they are going to receive a psychological
evaluation which may allow them to commit suicide may lie during the evaluation so that they
seem fine.

A tactic is a means by which a strategy is implemented. For each of your company s objectives
you need to come up with possible strategies to achieve them. You then need to write tactics for
each of the functional areas of your firm to implement those strategies. For example, your
objective might be to increase sales revenue by 20% over the next three years. You then might
formulate three strategies, a general price increase of 10% for all of your products, an increase in
marketing budgets, a new product launch. Each functional area will then need a series of tactics to
implement each year for the next three years. For example in year one your marketing tactics
might be to implement the 10% price rise and to increase TV advertising expenditure by 20%.
Developing a Product Strategy
The company President has given you complete freedom to manage your firm s product. However
they have recommended that you choose to initially implement one of three product strategies:
A) HIGH PRICE, LOWER VOLUME
Increase your price by up to 10% (i.e. $550 $605) and increase your Product
Promotion expenditure by $500,000 $1,000,000.
B) MEDIUM PRICE, MEDIUM VOLUME
Change your price by less than 1% (i.e. $545 $555), and increase your Product
Promotion expenditure by $250,000 $500,000.
C) LOW PRICE, HIGHER VOLUME
Decrease your price by up to 5% (i.e. $522 $550) and increase your Product
Promotion expenditure

The Iranian Nuclear Deal And Iran
Ali Larijani, the current speaker of the Iranian parliament, gave npr an interview detailing his
opinions on the new nuclear deal with Iran. Larijani finds the deal acceptable...not looking at the
specifics...looking at the whole picture ( Larijani). In other words, Larijani believes that the
nuclear accord as it has been struck, has it flaws and is in no way a perfect pact. He views it as
more of a placeholder, a sign of better things to come. The real test of this deal, in both Larijani
and his country s eyes, will be the economic reform it can bring for Iran. Larijani thinks it is
possible for the economy to thrive and comments that they have already passed three
legislations...that makes it easier...to invest in Iran ( Larijani).... Show more content on

The matter was taken to the United Nations Security Council, and a program of sanctions against
Iran was approved ( Iran Nuclear Deal 1). No significant negotiated deal was reached with Iran
on its nuclear program until the JPA in 2014. The JPA requires Iran to remove two thirds of its
installed centrifuges and reduce its current stockpile of enriched uranium by 98 percent ( Iran
Nuclear Deal 1). The hope behind this is that Iran will have a vastly increased timeframe in which
they would be able to produce a viable nuclear weapon. That increase in time needed to produce a
bomb plus increased transparency to nuclear inspectors, not only to Iranian nuclear facilities, but
to...uranium mills....the centrifuge production and storage facilities , would kill Iran s quest for a
nuclear weapon before it could truly begin ( Obama A Historic Understanding 1). In return, some
sanctions on Iran are lifted and they are able to rejoin the international economic community.
The JPA will prove advantageous to Iran s economy as the lifting of economic sanctions and the
unfreezing of Iranian foreign assets are a key stipulation. For decades, the United States had
attempted to influence Iran s nuclear regime through economic sanctions, meaning no trade or
transfer of

Analysis of Emily Dickinson s Because I Could Not Stop for Death
In regard to Emily Dickinson s poem, Because I Could Not Stop for Death, Critic Eunice Glenn
says: In the first two lines Death, personified as a carriage driver, stops for one who could not stop
for him. The word kindly is particularly meaningful, for it instantly characterizes Death. This comes
with surprise, too, since death is more often considered grim and terrible (Glenn). Critic Charles R.
Anderson says, Death, usually rude, sudden, and impersonal, has been transformed into a kindly
and leisurely gentleman (Anderson).
Both critics seem to agree on the significance of the word kindly in the first two lines of the poem.
Because I could ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Critic Patricia Engle, on the other hand, looks further and asks, What does the speaker or anyone
stop doing for Death? Answering her own question, Engle says: We stop living. In order to
illustrate her point, she goes on to say, in reference to the speaker of the poem, She realizes that
she cannot recognize Death s power over her. Once she reckons with that eternal or divine bent
within her, Death stops; that is, Death ceases to be what Death is an end (Engle 74). Given
deeper analysis of the poem as a whole, this interpretation appears to be the most accurate. Death
is not the final stopping point for our speaker. The carriage only paused at the grave (17). The
Horses Heads / Were toward Eternity (23 24). The poem suggests that death was not meant to be
an end human existence will go on for eternity. This accounts for the third, often overlooked,
passenger in the carriage Immortality (4). Mortals don t stop for death death stops for them. Death
gives way to immortality, and thus, stops being an end. Even if she had wanted to, the speaker
could not have stopped for Death. The grave is merely a brief pause on the journey toward Eternity.
Dickinson had a definite purpose when she chose to personify death as a carriage driver. According

Personal Finance In Education
The United States are ranked well behind Chinese and Australian students in financial literacy, and
new research shows over sixty percent of American teens don t know how to approach basic
financial problems (Shepard). There are many beneficial reasons why personal finance should be
required in high schoola few of which are: young adults are lacking the basics, there isn t any
personal finance being taught in the classroom, it s a part of our everyday life, and Americas debt
lies in our future. The lack of personal finance being taught in the classroom is a major concern in
the United States. One of the most critical reasons why personal finance should be taught in the
classroom is because young adults are illiterate about personal finance.... Show more content on

Students are asked simple personal finance questions, yet most are uneducated about what the right
answers are to those questions. Knowing about personal finance before adulthood can help future
generations not repeat the same mistakes as past generations. People who don t have a basic
knowledge about financial literacy tend to not plan for retirement, and are more likely to borrow
money with high interests rates not knowing how much it will cost them (Shepard). Learning to
create a budget, saving money, and using a credit card with understanding the fees and the interest
rate are basic concepts but are usually misunderstood until later in life. Personal finance questions
come up in adults life s everyday, however some adults can find these questions to be very difficult.
By educating young adults with every day life situations about personal finance knowledge before
adulthood can eliminate poor financial decisions later in

Argumentative Essay On Hack-A-Shaq
Hamoy, Ken Gabriel E.S20B
Argumentative Essay Second Draft
The Hack a Shaq Strategy
The hack a shaq has been developed some time ago as a last minute strategy to hinder the scoring
ability of the opposing team. This strategy was initially devised to force the opposing players to
shoot free throws by intentionally committing a foul against them. The league eventually got the
idea of using this strategy against poor free throw shooters, like former NBA player Shaquille O
Neal, not just to hinder the scoring ability of the other team, but to literally stop them from scoring.
However, the NBA is considering to prohibit the use of this strategy because the basketball fans find
it distasteful. But the NBA should retain the Hack a Shaq ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

They want to see players run around, make incredible passes, and shoot in a fashionable manner.
They do not want not players shooting free throws because it is boring. However, basketball is not
about what the people want or do not want, it is about winning, and teams competing against each
other for the title.
The hack a shaq should remain acceptable in a basketball game. Not only is it a great way of
turning the tide of the game, but has also improved a lot of poor free throw shooters after being
victims of this strategy. It s [free throw] an area of the game that anyone can work at and excel

The Impact Of Malnutrition On Guatemala And Its Effects On...
The Impact of Malnutrition in Guatemala
Most children in Guatemala at the age of five begin to suffer from malnourishment while in other
countries such as the U.S. children suffer from obesity. In Guatemala, half of all the children under
the age of 5 suffer from chronic malnourishment. It is the largest economy in Central America and
also the most populous country in the region. Even so, many members of Guatemala remain
minimally active in the economy and live in poverty (Guatemala s government 1). Guatemala is rich
in agricultural yet they don t feed their own people.
According to the World Food Programme in 2009 Guatemala ranked 133 out of 187 countries in
the Human Development Index of 2012 (1). The HDI is a system used to rank countries on their
overall achievements economically and socially. Guatemala faces a food insecurity crisis due to
droughts. The global economic crisis has reduced exports, foreign investments, tourism revenues
and access to credit thereby increasing the government s budget deficit and unemployment. The
rise in the price of agricultural inputs has reduced the availability of subsidized fertilizers (1).
Farmers are affected but not as much as families. Due to the crisis families are restricted to the
access of food. In comparison to the United States families are less likely to face these crisis
because they receive help from Welfare, Medicaid and Medicare.
Feed the Future reports that Guatemala has tremendous agricultural production, leading

Paleolithic Research Paper
The picture of the Paleolithic life reveals that this was a prehistoric era known as the Stone Age
era. The discovery made by Chauvet, Lascaux, and other archeologist signifies that there was life
on earth over millions of years ago. Paleolithic people depicted art on the cave walls as a way to
communicate and tell the history of their existence. However, Paleolithicpeople not only used the
cave as a canvas, but also as their living quarters. Paleolithic people were the first inventors of art.
The murals created by hand stencils and finger tracing is an indication of early phases of the
Paleolithic era. The depiction of animals on the cave walls were an indication of the latter phase
of the Paleolithic era. Evidence of the rare findings of the Pecten (a large shell) with black coal
in it signifies the coal was used for black paint. The discovery of distinctive caves signified that the
people of the Paleolithic era did not all live in one central location.... Show more content on

Judging by the number of paintings and drawings of horses on the cave walls shows that horses
either played or had a significant role in their society. Furthermore, the paintings of animals on
the cave wall indicated that men were hunters and gathers. Reflect of male and female paintings
were also found on the cave walls. The color black was used to identify the female organs and to
distinguish the male figure from the female. Children also left markings or evidence of their
existence by their handprints. They had to have assistance in helping them place their handprints
on the wall because where their handprints were discovered and found shows that the wall was too
high for them to reach. Therefore, this did not only justify the children had access to the upper part

Diagnosing Charles Manson
Diagnosing Charles Manson
Brianna M. Petrosky

Diagnosing Charles Manson Born into a life of poverty, despair, and recklessness, Charles
Manson did not have the greatest upbringing. His mother was a sixteen year old prostitute who
was unsure of who was Charles father. He did not have a father figure in his life whatsoever. His
mother was an alcoholic all his life who never sought treatment for herself. Alcoholism has been
deemed a family disease for a reason...because those dealing with family members who are
alcoholics tend to have harsh emotional problems. This can lead to destructive behavior
throughout a person s life, especially if neglected as a child. This was Charlie s ... Show more

This is when a person has delusions of inflated power or worth, such as when Manson thinks he is
God to his cult. Because of the information and research I have thus far, I could definitely associate
Charles Manson with yet another diagnosis of a mental disorder. Using the DSM again, it shows that
the diagnostic criteria for Antisocial Personality Disorder is met by Manson. The symptoms of this
disorder are those such as failure to conform to social norms, conning others, impulsivity,
aggressiveness, recklessness, irresponsibility, and lack of remorse. All of these can basically be
made into adjectives that describe Manson perfectly. He never conformed to the norms of
society because he was always an outcast. He partook in abnormal behaviors. As mentioned
previously, he conned a woman out of $700, so conning people is another criteria met for this
disorder. While in prison, Manson would regularly attack prison guards and other prisoners so
aggression is met as well. He was obviously reckless and irresponsible considering he was a
murderer. When interviewed about his murders he showed no signs of remorse and even laughed
inappropriately. These are all symptoms of Antisocial Personality Disorder. The other criteria for
this disorder is that one must have been acting in such manner since age of fifteen, at least be
eighteen at time of diagnosis, and these symptoms must be present at all times, not just in
schizophrenic episodes (4th ed., text

The Poisonwood Bible Character Analysis
Imagine abandoning all modern day luxuries and conveniences to go to one of the least civilized
countries in the world. At the beginning of The Poisonwood Bible, Leah Price looks up to her
father as a shining example of a good, clean, Christian man. Although her sisters and mother
undergo dramatic shifts of character during the novel, it is Leah that changes the most. Due to the
harsh nature of the jungle, interaction with native people, and drastic political changes in her new
country of residence, Leah changes from a normal young girl who loves her father to a passionate
activist for human rights and independence. She realizes that her father is not the role model she

This quote from Rudyard Kipling s The White Man s Burden shows the cruelty of white rulers,
conquerors, and settlers throughout history. Soldiers forcibly invaded peaceful villages and
sometimes mercilessly murdered the people in them. Like many other times in history, the white
savior came to the area and was overtaken by lust for power and evil greed, taking whatever they
could whenever they could. The relentlessness of the white invaders and the suffering they
brought with them brought terror and sadness to the native Campbell 2 African people. The
natives of the Congo wanted nothing to do with any foreign white people and rejected their
messages of peace and religion. All the natives ever wanted to do was live their own lives their

Relationship of Sexual Activities to Academic Performance

vital for entrance into good high schools, colleges, graduate schools and most sought high salary

  • 2. Persuasive Essay About Ice Skating Ice skating can be a difficult sport to learn because there are many steps to learn before you can even think about going into a competition. To be able to start you will need a pair of professional ice skates, ice skating nylons, a ice skating dress or clothes suited to practice in like loose sweatpants and a long sleeves. First, you need to learn the basics of ice skating. You need to be able to balance on the ice without holding onto the wall, falling, and wobbling side to side. In order to move on to the next step you have to skate smoothly with ease so you will look professional to the judges. At the beginning you will most likely fall a lot, especially if you are not used to balancing onto a pair of shoes with a thin blade attached... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... You two will keep doing that until you are able to do it on your own without the help of your instructor. Before you start to make your routine, you will have to choose a song that will match perfectly with your routine in the making. It may sound hard to pick the perfect song for a routine that is not even made up yet, but for the first part all you have to do is find a song that you will be able to skate and dance to. The most important rule you should remember while you are picking you song is that the song has to be absolutely clean or else the judges will either deduct points from your score or you will be disqualified it will most likely be the latter. Once you picked out a song give it to your instructor to listen to and see if they approve of your choice of music. The second part is that your instructor will either be able to make up a routine to go along with the music you had chosen or they will tell you to choose a different song. Another option is that they can choose a song for you to skate to. The reason why the last two options are there is because your instructor may not like the music you had chosen since before they even listen to the music you chosen they are already figuring out what will be put in your routine and how it will be put together. Next, you will begin practicing your routine in parts before you ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. How Apps Can Promote Android App Ten Ways to Promote Your iOS App in 2016 With the resources available today, it has never been easier to make an iOS app. As a result, there has also never been as much competition in the app store. Without proper promotion tactics, it is very easy for your app to be buried under the other thousands of other iOS apps also competing for a limited amount of iOS users. It isn t enough to simply have a useful app anymore, the app needs to be marketed and promoted to become and stay relevant. So to help you get your iOS app into the hands of users, here are ten ways to help you promote your iOS app in 2016. Have a short, concise description of your app The description of your app is the first thing your customer will see, so it is essential that they know exactly what purpose the app serves. Not only should your app description be accurate, it should also be short and to the point. Time is an invaluable asset and today, more than ever before, people don t want to waste any more of it than necessary. Because of this, having a clear and to the point summary of your app is more likely to bring in more users than a longer one. A clear description of your app will also reduce the amount of uninstalls caused by users thinking the app does something that it does not. Give the market time to review your app before launch Allowing people to beta test or review your app before its official release not only allows users to weed out potential bugs in your app, it also allows your ... • 4. Republican Party Dbq Essay In the past, the Democratic party was known as the conservative, traditional party that fully supported state government while the Republican party was a supporter of the federal government control. The Republican party began as Lincoln s party which caught the attention and support of the colored voters. In contrast, the Democratic partywas predominantly white during this time with ideas to keep the rights of the state and the traditions of the South. Though these two parties have opposing views, they began to clash and redirect their beliefs. Over time the two main political parties have changed their platforms based on the issues of desegregation, racism in the South and placement of federal government. A major issue that was predominant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As the Democratic platform changed, the Republican party became very conservative and defended state s rights due to its opposition to what was called big government (Rise of Rep. Party, p. 567). On the issue of race, the Republican party fully supported that the white race was superior and the state had its own right to remain segregated. A key politician that represents this change was the former Senator Jesse Helms. Religion was the driving force of his political views and he was very vocal about his opinions. His campaign developed the concept of the New Right which refers to the Christian church stepping into the realm of politics (Jesse Helms Doc). In the 1970s and the 1980s, many organizations became available, such as the Christian Coalition and Moral Majority, to support the church having political influence. Since the church became a part of political campaigns, politicians became more reserved in their discrimination in a perception known as Southern Strategy. This popular technique was used mainly by the Republican party that was extremely traditional known as the Tea Party or far right . The first politician to introduce the idea was President Nixon in 1960, through his speeches to the people. The Southern Strategy technique is used when the speaker uses choices of words to convey a negative, underlying meaning without blatantly stating their opinion (class discussion). As an example, Nixon expressed his support of state s rights as a way of admitting that he supported the continuation of segregation in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Narrative Paradigm By Scott Stroud Scott Stroud in his article Multivalent narratives: Extending the Narrative Paradigm with Insights from Ancient Indian Philosophical Texts critiques the narrative paradigm by pointing out its weaknesses and proposing revisions to the existing paradigm using ancient Indian philosophical narratives. Stroud claims that Fisher s paradigm is too limiting and conservative when dealing with foreign concepts and texts. The narrativeparadigm does not allow people to experience new stories that may differ from their traditional stories challenging their values and/ or accepting new ones (Stroud, p. 372). Our judgment of a narrative is based on what we believe is just or true. New ideas or thoughts or values are not given a chance using the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Knowing that man is separate from Dattatreya will lead to the mind being cleansed and salvation. This narrative also says that Dattatreya is of this world, residing in everything of earth. The story argues against the separation of the subordinate and the deity, saying, There is no Shepard, no flock (as cited in Stroud, 2002). The deity tells man in order to achieve salvation he must meditate and work, but man should do neither in order to gain reward, taking care to chose actions wisely as those choices will impact future salvation (Stroud, 2002, p. 382). This text is full of contradictions; the deity is separate from man, the deity is with man and of the world, meditate and work to gain salvation, meditation and work are not important and will not gain man salvation. The second text is equally confusing and contradictory within itself and to the first text. The Devi Gita is a goddess of divine power who urges the reader to be devout only to her. She says she is also separate from the world, only later in the text to claim she is of this world and with man. Meditation is important to achieve salvation however meditating in hopes of salvation or to please the ego is not pleasing to her. Stroud claims that the narrative paradigm as it is now is not efficient in rendering an outcome for the western reader of these texts, which involve incoherence ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Essay about Vocational Teacher Education Reform Vocational Teacher Education Reform The reform movements of the 1980s triggered numerous demands to reexamine and reform the way students and their teachers are educated. This Digest examines the implications for vocational teacher education emerging from general teacher education reform movements. It discusses how excellence in vocational education teaching can be achieved and proposes 21st century models for vocational teacher education. Impacts of Reform Movements on Vocational Teacher Education Several of the major reform initiatives of the 1980s and early 1990s argued that improving education requires improving teacher quality and, accordingly, teacher education. In response to mounting evidence of the deterioration of vocational teacher education, (Dykman 1993), the University Council for Vocational Education and the National Association of State Directors of Vocational Technical Education Consortium formed a joint task force that identified 13 points for initiating a reform process entailing designing and implementing a customer driven learning system and an accountability system (Lynch 1997). Like earlier publications examining general teacher education, the responses to the task force report focused on the need for excellence in vocational teacher education. Issues in Achieving Excellence Debate on the question of how to pursue excellence in vocational teacher education programs focused on vocational education s mission, audience, and delivery. New Mission? Until the advent of the reform movement, vocational education had been viewed as a separate system of education intended to meet the nation s labor needs by providing below college level training for specific occupations (Lynch 1997). In the late 1980s, that view began to change. Borrowing words used by Dewey in 1916, Tozer and Nelson (1988) urge vocational teacher educators to teach prospective teachers to provide students with generalizable higher order skills by teaching through vocations instead of for vocations (p. 22). Sharp (1996), in his discussion of the transition to a post Fordist economy, asserts that the recent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Phos Research Paper Partially hydrogenated oils have been used by manufacturers for years. The FDA has decided to remove PHOs from all manufacturers due to extensive research into the effects of PHOs. Partially hydrogenated oils have been determined not to be GRAS, generally recognized as safe (Center). Although the FDA had decided that PHOs are unhealthy many sources say that fats are needed for body functions. In high amounts fats are going to be bad for the body but, with any type of foodthat is the case and it is the job of the consumer to watch their eating habits. PHOs have a purpose of why manufacturers use them and even though they are said to lower cholesterol but, that s not the whole truth. Fatty acids in the oil then absorb some of the hydrogen and becomes more dense. If the manufacturer were to fully hydrogenate the oil, it would become a solid, basically a fat. When the hydrogenation process is stopped half way, this is when it becomes partially hydrogenated oil. PHO s are a butter substitute and have the same consistency(Armstrong). What complete hydrogenation of fats does is turn healthful unsaturated fats into fully saturated fats. This is the equivalent to regular, saturated, animal fat and since this animal fat and complete hydrogenation is essentially the same this doesn t work. The solution was partially hydrogenated oils so that some of the unsaturated molecules would remain and the product would remain healthy ( The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The genocide was a brutal massacre that killed 1.4 to 2.2 million people, about 21% of Cambodia s population. This essay, will discuss the history of the Cambodian genocide, specifically, what happened, the victims and the perpetrators and the world s response to the genocide. The Cambodian Genocide has the historical context of the Vietnam War and the country s own civil war. During the Vietnam War, leading up to the conflicts that would contribute to the genocide, Cambodia was used as a U.S. battleground for the Vietnam War. Also, religious leaders like monks, and Christian missionaries would be killed. These victims would be persecuted, because they went against the ideals of communism, like the professionals and intellectuals being educated, the monks and missionaries being religious, and minorities going against Pol Pot s idea of a pure Cambodian society. The genocide s process and method of killing was through prisons and killing fields. The urban city dweller population was evacuated to the countryside, those who were elderly, frail, disabled, basically incapable of making the journey, and those who seemed to be against the new regime were killed on the spot. When the rest of the people reached the countryside they were forced to do farm work in an effort to put society back to an agrarian society starting at year zero. Many people would also die of starvation, malnutrition, and disease or for committing supposed crimes. Prison were also used, such as the now infamous prison S 21, that was once a high school that was used for some of the most brutal and gruesome killings. It was used to interrogate people and force people into admitting to having committed crimes. It was used from mid1975 to 1979. Approximately 17,000 people were killed here. People were forced into admitting to crimes through torture techniques, such as hanging, drowning, electric shock, and other methods. The prisoners were well documented, ... The apparatus needed were paper, pencil and ninety nine (99) stimulus words. For the procedure, the experiment has 1 phase: determination of association reaction time and the measurement of recognition thresholds. The observes reacted with GSR s of significantly greater magnitude during the pre recognition presentation of the critical words than they did before recognizing the neutral words. In addition, the observes displayed significantly higher thresholds recognition for the critical than for the neutral words. Hypotheses made before recognition of the charged words were of such a nature as to indicate resistance to recognizing these words. The findings are interpreted as representing conditioned avoidance of verbal symbols having unpleasant meanings to the observer. The stimulus word serves as cue to deeply imbedded anxiety which is revealed in automatic reactivity as measured by the GSR. Avoidance of further anxiety is contemporaneously aroused in the form of perceptual defense again. • 11. Wonder Woman The Theory Of Habitus Analysis It is said that war never changes and that all war revolves around power. However, like religion, war is not just what we see on the surface, but instead an intricate system revolving around many factors. In the Movie Wonder Woman the Theory of Habitus is evident as the historical and societal context shapes the way Diana thinks and fights in the war. Nye s reference to habitus as a set of habitual arrangement through which people give significance to social conventions through historical origins (Nye 2008, 125) , closely ties in with Diana s belief that to end the war happening between man, she must find and kill the god of war Ares, and based on historical context, that is what she must do to restore peace. I have come to a personal conclusion that the study of religion has many more kinks and grooves that are crucial to a complete understanding of what religion truly means. To me religion appeared mundane, I am personally of Lebanese descent and Sunni sect of Islam, and although my father s side of the family finds religion as something of great importance and significance to our culture, I never truly understood the entire affiliation and meaning and therefore wasn t driven to learn it either way. However, throughout observing the film that I chose for this assignment: Wonder Woman, I came to various realizations as to how my religious views come in contact with my culture, not only that but alongside the idea of ritualistic behaviour and many of the psychological aspects of how we confide in our practices. The whole idea of observing something that appears so simplistic such as a movie based on DC comics through the scope of religion, when it is given context in the form of the three chapters we have read: Belief, Rituals and Text. and the various sub contexts each one of these aspects of religion have. High Demand For Off Campus Housing Essay Everyone will have to search for housing at some point in their life but for most JMU students this process begins after only a few weeks of living in a dorm your freshman year of college. The thought of signing a lease this early into the school year with friends that you have only known since coming to JMU can be very exciting and scary at the same time. there is such high demand for off campus housing that they tend to fill up very fast and early in the school year. Most students at JMU will only live in a dorm their freshman year and then move into apartments for the rest of their collegeexperience. This is a helpful guide for students looking for housing including my own experience signing a lease, whether living off campus is cheaper than living on campus, and what your options are for living off campus. My Own Experience: My search for housing began only six weeks after I had packed my entire life up and moved from New Hampshire to JMU. Thankfully my sister is currently a senior here at JMU so she knew how important it was to sign a lease quickly because of how fast the housing complexes fill up. • 13. Women Are More Successful, Powerful And Recognized These articles provide me new and significantly important way of becoming aware and conscious in such a way that the women are not standard or commercialized as objects. Instead I think women must be perceived and have the same rights and privileges as men. This is exactly the reason that I appreciate and like these articles as they provide rational explanations about the female personal images, perceptions, self awareness, and self consciousness. I would say now women are more successful, powerful and recognized than in the past. As being the essential ingredient of a society, they have to work along with men to prove themselves. I think that they have to overcome many difficult situations. On the other hand, the article that I did not like is Guyland , and I know that this article is not realistic and just based on the fantasy. However, I did not like some contexts in Guyland . I did not like the idea where the author, Michael Kimmel described Guyland as a place where guys go to become men and single men stay there because they no longer have to face the stresses of the world. Also, there were some anti feminists things that were offensive to a great extent. The first time the writer mentions women, he states that men don t like women, but they like girls because girls are sexy which does not fit my brain. I hate it because it is insulting women by only limiting them to the use of their appearances. Also, the second thing which seems offensive to me from the text is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

LGBTQ; a growing cause that has been heard by many people across the globe, Gay marriage and equality is no longer just a farfetched idea but has become a reality for many nations across the world who have accepted and legalized the acceptance of LGBTQ community members within society. Some have accepted while other fought against this notion of legalization, though many citizens have come to terms with this new ideology that has been incorporated within modern society. Although members of the LGBTQ society and the thousands that accept the community have protested and gathered together to fight for the equality of all nations there is still some that do not agree with this notion. Protestors yelling, news reporters capturing the seen for people millions of miles away, and discrimination could be found at the 2014 Winter Olympic Gameslocated in Sochi, Russia. This year s Olympic Games were on the bounds of discrimination against the LGBTQ community not just from Russia s own citizens but discrimination towards many visiting athletes from the 200 nations that participated in the games. • 18. The Built Environment At The Gardens Of Versailles A review of the built environment at the Gardens of Versailles provides a rich perspective into the political culture during the Age of Enlightenment as one defined by the absolute rule of the monarch. Gardens at Versailles were first built by Louis XIII; however, it was during the reign of Louis XIV that the gardens were extensively expanded and adorned into the spectacle Versailles is known for today. Perhaps catalyzed by a hurt ego after the construction of Fouquet s grand Vaux le Vicomte which was suspected to have been built using embezzled crown funds1, in 1661 Louis XIV began his epic project of the gardens designed almost entirely as an expression of his absolute power. Andres Le NГґtre, Versailles leading landscape architect, believed in the basic conception that landscape should be more impressive than the buildings it comprehends2. With over 800 hectares of gardens, the size of Versailles alone is quite daunting. Using forced perspective, Le NГґtre, further extended the site in the mind s eye creating a scale incomparable to the surrounding villages3. No doubt those who visited the gardens were filled with awe, perhaps even fear. Versailles provided an almost urban environment, housing France s aristocracy. Though the nobility was relatively pampered, there was no question that the king was in charge. Elaborate terracing, for example, gave the gardens hierarchical structure symbolizing feudal society, purposefully reinforcing the nobility s servility by literally ... • 19. Summary Of A Midwife s Tale Historian Laurel Thatcher Ulrich provides a glimpse of America post Revolutionary war through her critically acclaimed book, A Midwife s Tale, which is the interpretation of Martha Ballard s seemingly humble diary a record of her life as a midwife, mother, wife, and caregiver from 1785 through 1812. The book features Ballard s account of her average day s activities, which, in turn, serves to represent the tasks of women in her society; however, Ulrich cross references the diary with documents such as court transcripts, land records, maps, and other diaries in order to piece together a more detailed account than one gathered solely from Ballard s words. While popular belief envisions women in this timeframe as being constrained to the home and a litter of children, it is Ballard s diary that reveals that women played a major role in other aspects of society, including the market economy, medicine and childbirth, versus just being mothers and homemakers. Ballard s society was undoubtedly patriarchal, with her diary depicting a separation between men s and women s work, not only in the making of products but in in the management and use of resources. While men did the hunting, farming, or major trading, women produced things like candles, soap, thread, and cloth, which they traded amongst the other women in the area. Rip s wife nags so much that he uses the Kaatskill mountains as a refuge from her henpecking ways, ...his wife kept continually dinning in his ears about his idleness, his carelessness, and the ruin he was bringing on his family. Morning, noon, and night, her tongue was incessantly going. (956). In contrast, in the story of Young Goodman Brown, Goodman Brown leaves his wife, Faith, for three months to complete a suspicious errand in the woods. In contrast to Rip, Goodman Brown uses nature as a refuge from his faith in God, not his nagging wife at home, in fact he loves his wife dearly. Despite the fact that nature is an apparent topic throughout both stories, it is my claim that Washington Irvingdoes a better job of presenting the use of the theme of nature being a refuge due to his use of symbolism, setting, and characters to illustrate the theme that nature acts as a a refuge. Quick, agile, and focused, outsmarting others comes easily to them. The similarities between these intelligent creatures and Mrs. Amy Fox goes far deeper than their name. Amy Fox is an English instructor, her class is not one to scoff at and anyone looking for and easy A, should look the other directions. For, any grammatical error, any inconsistencies in an argument, Fox will weed them out. With sharp eyes and numerous college degrees at her back, nothing gets past her. To pass her class one must also become a fox; clever enough to overcome large workloads without becoming overwhelmed, quick enough to spot errors in their own papers before turning them in, and focused enough to maintain presence in the classroom despite other things that maybe going on. No, Fox s class is not easy, it forces students to overcome bad habits, but also provides the correct tools to do so, if the student is willing to do the work. Mrs. Fox s English 101 class is challenging because it calls for time managements skills, demands attention to details, and requires flexibility. The Apostles and the Early Church The Apostles and the Early Church J.Trimble GBST 164 In the Gospel of Matthew the term apostles is only used when introducing the list of twelve apostles commissioned to follow Christ. Now the names of the twelve Apostles are these: the first, Simon who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother; Philip, and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew the publican; James the son of Alpheus, and Lebbeus, whose surname was Thaddeus; Simon the Canaanite, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him (Matthew 10:1 4). As in the case of Abram, Sarai and Jacob, the change of destiny is indicated by the change of name. This name Cephas is taken from the Aramaic vernacular and corresponds to the Greek Peter, Petros, which means a piece of rock a mass of rock detached from the living rock (T. Butler). It is a term which becomes a natural emblem of firmness and stability. It may be hard for us to see the fitness of such a name for a man apparently so unstable; but the fitness was perceived by Christ. Peter wavered often, even while under his Master s eye, and at least once afterward, but he continually became more and more like the rock that Christ wanted him to be and he was indeed a pillar of the church (W.B. Hill). We observe that all the time Christ was with the Twelve, Peter was a leader among them. Occasionally, Christ would select certain ones for special responsibilities; for example: Peter, James and John to witness the raising of Jarius daughter, the transfiguration, and the agony in the garden (G. Stokes). Now, why were these particular men selected on these occasions to be the recipients of special privileges and the bearers of the attendant responsibilities? • 37. Essay on Physician-Assisted Suicide Suicide is one person s personal decision; physician assisted suicide is a patient who is not capable of carrying the task out themselves asking a physician for access to lethal medication. What people may fail to see however is that the physician is not the only healthcare personnel involved; it may include, but is not limited to, a physician, nurse, and pharmacist. This may conflict with the healthcare worker s own morals and there are cases in which the patient suffers from depression, or the patient is not receiving proper palliative care. Allowing physician assisted suicide causes the physician to become entangled in an ethical and moral discrepancy and has too many other issues surrounding it for it to be legal. Physician assisted... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Physician assisted suicide was first made legal in the state of Oregon. (Hendin) In cases of euthanasia, physicians often give lethal doses of a medication to terminate a patient s life because they re experiencing intolerable pain. Patients who wish to use the Death with Dignity law in Oregon must be eighteen or older, must be a resident of Oregon, and they must be able to make their own health care decisions. (Sharp 53) However, the law does not require the patient to be in unmanageable pain, they must just have a prognosis of less than six months to live. (Sharp 54) This law seems to be in place to kill patients more quickly to open up hospital space, instead of compassionately ending someone s suffering. Oregon s physicians are required by law to recommend hospice and palliative care, but are often not qualified, therefore only thirteen percent of dying patients get to hear their alternatives. (Hendin) Oregon also does not require a psychiatric evaluation when a patient makes a request for suicide. (Hendin) Studies have shown that 13 77% of patients who request assisted suicide are suffering from depression; however, psychiatrists believe that depression is a normal response to a severe illness. (Boyd) Also, patients who are aware they are going to receive a psychological evaluation which may allow them to commit suicide may lie during the evaluation so that they seem fine. ... The word kindly is particularly meaningful, for it instantly characterizes Death. This comes with surprise, too, since death is more often considered grim and terrible (Glenn). Critic Charles R. In order to illustrate her point, she goes on to say, in reference to the speaker of the poem, She realizes that she cannot recognize Death s power over her. Once she reckons with that eternal or divine bent within her, Death stops; that is, Death ceases to be what Death is an end (Engle 74). Given deeper analysis of the poem as a whole, this interpretation appears to be the most accurate. Death is not the final stopping point for our speaker. The carriage only paused at the grave (17). The Horses Heads / Were toward Eternity (23 24). The poem suggests that death was not meant to be an end human existence will go on for eternity. This accounts for the third, often overlooked, passenger in the carriage Immortality (4). Mortals don t stop for death death stops for them. Death gives way to immortality, and thus, stops being an end. Even if she had wanted to, the speaker could not have stopped for Death. Using the DSM again, it shows that the diagnostic criteria for Antisocial Personality Disorder is met by Manson. The symptoms of this disorder are those such as failure to conform to social norms, conning others, impulsivity, aggressiveness, recklessness, irresponsibility, and lack of remorse. All of these can basically be made into adjectives that describe Manson perfectly. He never conformed to the norms of society because he was always an outcast. He partook in abnormal behaviors. As mentioned previously, he conned a woman out of $700, so conning people is another criteria met for this disorder. While in prison, Manson would regularly attack prison guards and other prisoners so aggression is met as well. He was obviously reckless and irresponsible considering he was a murderer. When interviewed about his murders he showed no signs of remorse and even laughed inappropriately. These are all symptoms of Antisocial Personality Disorder.
