My Service Learning With Child Protective Services ( Cps )
First Impressions Before taking this class or completing my service learning with Child Protective
Services (CPS), I really had not had any experience with CPS. I just made the assumption that the
agency was biased and flawed based on the experiences other people had with CPS. I also did not
think it would be a place that I would want to work because I did not want to work with children,
although now I realize that was a really unfair opinion I had of the agency. I also thought a lot of
people abused the service because I had heard a lot of stories of people calling CPS on each other out
of spite. After learning about CPS and being able to observe what the agency does, I do realize the
agency is not what I thought it was. I also realize ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although my first day in the office was uneventful I was looking forward to going back, because I was
excited to see what other types of tasks Ms. Green has to carry out. My first day was my only day in
the office though, after a while Ms. Green stopped responding to my emails.
From my understanding it was not Ms. Green who was avoiding me, it was the agency preventing her
from communicating with not only me, but with other families who she could have been working
with. I became so frustrated and disappointed that I was getting gypped from the service learning
portion of class. I also imagine the families she was working with were frustrated as well because they
were stuck in a sort of limbo. Even though I was not able to go back to the CPS office and complete
any more hours there, I did get the opportunity to observe a case in court. Which definitely made me
place some faith back into the agency, it made everything we learned in class click together for me. In
particular there were some terms that came up in court that I remember discussing in class, such as
family reunification, safe and stable housing, and the family service plan. I really felt like I was able to
fully understand what was happening during the hearing because we covered so much in class. This
case involved three children who were currently living in foster care with a family, and their parents
who were trying to get the three children returned to them. I did not anticipate how emotionally

David Sedaris Sarcasm Rhetorical Analysis
Though difficult to pick up David Sedaris employs the rhetoric strategies of Sarcasm, Irony and
Understatement. The occurrence of irony rests over the entire piece because as Sedaris describes his
special problems and tics and habits the audience becomes aware that he is suffering from OCD,
despite those in the essay being unaware of it. There is also situational irony for example when his
father tells him that: College is the best thing that can ever happen to you and Sedaris comments He
was right . This is ironic because it leads the audience to assume he might have overcome is Disorder,
when actually he was referring to discovering drugs, drinking, and smoking . This emphasizes how his
disorder was never taking serious enough

This Film is Not Yet Rated is a documentary directed by Kirby Dick, and produced by Eddie Schmidt
about the Motion Picture Association of America (or the MPAA) and their often unjust rules in rating
movies. The MPAA s rating system is as follows: G and PG are the same as they are in Australia, M is
called PG 13 in America, MA15+ is R, and R18+ is NC 17, the latter being the strongest rating. The
difference between an R movie and an NC 17 movie can be as wide as hundreds of millions of dollars,
and is factored by disparities between Hollywood and indie filmmakers, straight and gay sex, male
and female sexual depictions and violent and sexual content.
Little is known about the production process of This Film Is Not Yet Rated, other than it ... Show more

An unrated cut was made in response to the NC 17 rating, which prevented the documentary from
being publicly screened without review. Dick originally planned to get permission from the studios to
use their clips from NC 17 rated films, but he discovered that studio licensing agreements would have
prohibited him from using the clips to criticize the MPAA. This prompted Dick to use the clips under
the fair use doctrine, which allows copyrighted clips to be used for criticism, and lead to greater
interest among documentary filmmakers in fair use as a result.
This Film Is Not Yet Rated premiered at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival, and was given a standing
ovation and subsequently received positive reviews from critics. It has an 84% Certified Fresh score
on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 117 reviews and a score of 75/100 on Metacritic based on 33 reviews,
indicating Generally favourable reviews . Critics praised the revelations surrounding the MPAA, as
well as its humour. Some critics were less receptive, calling it smug and criticised the documentary for
its unbalanced viewpoint and a supposed lack of research. The documentary continued to draw crowds
at many more festivals, including South by Screenwest and the Seattle International Film Festival, and
went into theatrical release in select theatres on September

Historical and Ongoing Construction of Aboriginal Women in Canada as a Problem Population
In August of 2014, Tina Fontaine, a 15 year old from the Sagkeeng First Nation in Winnipeg, was
murdered. Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper s response was not to regard it as a sociological
phenomenon but as a crime against an individual that should be investigated (Canadian Press, 2014).
Harper is virtually alone in this. Those demanding an inquiry and the treatment of this singular murder
as part of the larger concern of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are a variety of theories that are useful in understanding this issue. The theories that will be used
here to explain the state of murdered and missing women in Canada and Harper s response to it are
societal reaction perspective and Spitzer s Marxian theory of deviance.
In order to understand the constructed identity of Aboriginal women in Canada today and in the past,
it is necessary to discuss ideas of empire, including Manifest Destiny and Terra Nullius. These
European concepts were and generally still form the ideology operating in Canada. Expansion of the
ruling class empire is taken for granted and divinely supported. This is the basis for European
exploration of the globe, claiming of already occupied lands and colonization of existing peoples.
Manifest Destiny was the 19th Century settler belief that it was their destiny to expand throughout
North America. Terra Nullius is the concept that land determined to be empty, in other words not
being used productively by a civilized people, could be occupied by those Europeans who found it. Of
course, both of these concepts belong to the ideology of European empire expansion which
indisputably devalued the existing Aboriginal communities. The French and English settlers pushed
their Christian beliefs onto Aboriginal peoples and succeeded in altering Aboriginal communities from
their matrilineal nature into

Successful Aging
The article, Understanding and Theorizing the Role of Culture in the Conceptualizations of Successful
Aging and Lifelong Learning by Maureen Tam (2014), seeks to explore how successful aging and
lifelong learning is understood in different cultural contexts, within and between cultures. Tam (2014)
articulates that successful aging and lifelong learning are value laden concepts that are culturally
determined. To this effect, people with different value systems and cultural backgrounds may perceive
and understand these two concepts differently, resulting in different definitions and conceptualizations
by people in diverse cultural contexts (p. 881). Tam s article successfully addresses her thesis that the
concepts of successful aging and lifelong learning are value laden and are culturally constructed, by
providing qualitative research that supports her claims. Tam succeeds in her argument by introducing
The Kluckhohnian Framework of Cultural Variation, which provides a better understanding of how
diverse cultures conceptualize important concepts in different and similar ways. The first conceptual
definition that Tam outlines was from Havighurt (1961), describing successful aging as a condition of
older people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this approach, Eastern culture relates to Confucian beliefs, which focuses on enriching one s life
and culture. Western culture focuses on a knowledge based society and the importance of survival
(Tam, 2014). The East West view of culture is not only overly simplistic, but its categorizations of
culture are static (Tam, 2014). Tam evidences the short comings of the East West approach, by
explaining that the view falls short of identifying that culture is fluid and subject to change (Tam,
2014). Tam uses inductive reasoning to explain that a different model needs to be used when
comparing cultures, to truly understand intercultural and intracultural

Practice Ethical Non-Polyamory
As a therapist who often works with non traditional lifestyles, I get a lot of calls from distressed
clients struggling to navigate new relationship structures. The most common of these calls is from
someone who thought they were in a monogamous relationship until their long term partner suddenly
changed the game by unilaterally declaring the relationship open, their orientation polyamorous or
something like that. To be clear, (something sudden game changers aren t) polyamory is experienced
by many people as a legitimate orientation and lifestyle...when it is practiced ethically, by mutual
consent and ongoing negotiation. True open or polyamorous relationships can exist only with trust,
openness and ongoing negotiation.

Certainly It has become an increasingly common event, one that is no longer hidden, but talked,
worried and obsessed about, with great energy. For some the forbidden is sexy. I would like to suggest
there are a variety of relationship arrangements that can be energizing and sexy, all the more for
demanding hard work and relentless honesty. and self knowledge.
Ethical non mongamy involves confronting ongoing change, issues of fairness, shifting relationship
dynamics, developing negotiating skills, and a solid relationship with yourself. These are all skills one
needs to be part of any relationship, couple, friendship or family. Whether you choose to leave a
relationship that s no longer working, or navigate a rapid;y changing one, you will still be in in your
most important relationship, the one you have with yourself. Sometimes working with a therapist who
gets all that it can really help.

The Effect Of The Slat System Essay
In order to gauge any effects the slat system, with various weights, may have on the shock wave,
several baseline tests were run. These tests did not have the device installed in order to record and
understand the basic performance of a shock wave coming straight from the shock tube. To record the
pressure profile of the wave within the expansion section, GageScope was used. A trigger was set to
detect a rapid rise in voltage from the pressure transducer, and the program would record 1ms before
and 10ms after the trigger. The initial baseline test can be seen in Figure X below. For a greater focus
on the effects of the device on the shock wave, all charts for comparison has been narrowed to 2ms
after the trigger. The two significant runs showing the pressure profile of the shock wave are shown in
Figures X Y.
Figure x: Baseline Test 1 Full Recording
Figure x: Baseline Test 1 2ms Recording
Figure x: Baseline Test 2
These figures show that the pressure rises from atmospheric (0mV) to peak pressure in a rise time of
around 0.000039 seconds, or 39 µs. This is representative of a shock wave due to a nearly
instantaneous rise time. Baseline test 1 burst at 51 psi while baseline test 2 burst at 53 psi.
The initial design did not perform effectively at achieving its intended functions when installed and
tested with the shock tube. Upon firing the shock tube, the slats would not rotate. Several firings were
attempted, all resulting in no rotation of the rods. The

The Republic What Is Justice Plato
Plato s book The Republic expresses multiple ideas on justice and its inner workings through
rhetorical dialogue and multiple characters. The rhetorical dialogue causes the reader(s) to reflect on
their own and others ideas of justice in the modern world. Plato doesn t only cover the perspectives
and ideas of characters on justice, but also intertwines ideas about knowledge and wisdom.
Plato begins his book by posing a question, What is justice . Of course, Plato doesn t just say that in
the first sentence, but rather implies it throughout the first pages for the reader to contemplate for the
rest of the book. Plato creates multiple characters, not in a specific order, in his book. The first
character worth mention is Cephalus, who has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Eglin Pkwy Research Papers
Accidents on the road happen daily. Reducing the likelihood of an accident requires the enforcement
of necessary traffic laws and the use of appropriate safety measures. On occasion, however, certain
safety measures are not taken or enforced when they should be. One such place that has great need for
such measures is the intersection of Eglin Pkwy and 12th Ave in Shalimar Florida. The Eglin Pkwy
and 12th Ave intersection is a very familiar place for most locals. Here Richbourg Ave coincides with
12th Ave and intersecting Eglin Pkwy. Going north on Eglin Pkwy one would find Shalimar
Elementary School just off to the right. Further north of the school is Eglin Air Force Base, or Eglin ,
as it is commonly referred to. People coming from and going to Eglin pass through this intersection.

According to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, there were 499
pedestrian fatalities in 2011, and in 2015 that number had increased to 632, an approximately 27%
increase in fatalities. With that being said, traffic regulation should be a priority. Traffic laws are great
advocates for road safety, but a law cannot enforce itself nor can it keep everybody safe. That is why
the use of traffic and road signs is important: they enforce and they protect. For instance, it is a
generally known that you cannot exceed the speed limit of twenty miles per hour inside a school zone;
however, most people wouldn t know that they were in a school zone if there hadn t been a sign that
indicated an entrance into a school zone. In addition, while the majority of drivers are aware that a
right turn on red is legal unless otherwise prohibited, many of them wouldn t know the requirements
for a legal right turn are, as stated under Florida Statute

Benjamin Franklin and His impact on American History Essay
Benjamin Franklin was one of the most successful founding fathers of our nation and helped establish
American independence from Great Britain. He was a key member in the development of the political
backbone that has shaped this country into what it is today. Benjamin Franklin was one of the most
humble and inspirational figures of that time. He was a major factor in the outcome of the war of
Independence and in his selfless actions of leaving his family, won the help from the French to assist
America in the fight against England. Although Benjamin Franklin never made it to be president he
was a leader among his peers. He invented many things that we still use today such as the library,

printing shop. After plans fell through and being very short on cash, he decided to stay in London until
he was able to pay his way home. When he returned he got married to Deborah Reads, girl he met and
fell in love with many years earlier. He worked in many other printing shops publishing his works
until his career really took a turn for the better when he joined the Free Masons. He was elected the
leader very shortly after. During this time he wrote the agreement for the Library Company of
Philadelphia and this became the first public library in America. After his establishment of the first
public library his role as a founder and leader started to take shape. He quickly became the president
and the secretary of the library to ensure its success. At this time Ben Franklin was looking for ways to
improve the nation. His next big improvement was the Union Fire company organized in 1734 which
became the nation s first Fire Department. The fire department that he developed made a significant
impact on the city of Philadelphia. This also sparked the idea of having night watchmen to watch the
city during the hours of darkness. Ben s expert knowledge

My Favorite Trip
Florida is a state that is very special to me. I have always enjoyed my many visits, but one trip in
particular stands out as my favorite. Ever since I was ten years old, I have enjoyed SCUBA diving
with my family. We have done it many times, and it is one of my favorite hobbies. In the Summer of
2016, my father and I took an unforgettable trip centered around it. We drove down to Fort Myers and
got aboard a dive boat headed to the Dry Tortugas, a small island chain to the west of the Keys. Not
only did we enjoy the diving and spearfishing, but we had a great time on the journey down. We began
our journey by spending a night at my grandparents house in Savannah, Georgia. Their house has
always been a constant in my life, seeming more familiar than some houses I have lived in myself. I
enjoyed visiting my family there as always, and it was great to start off the trip with such a familiar
location. The next day, we headed to Florida. We stopped by my Aunt and Uncle s house in Ocala, and
had dinner with them. It was good to see more of my family, and share a good meal with them. That
night, we drove from Ocala to Orlando, where we would spend the night. When it was finally time to
sleep, I was kept awake by my father s incredibly loud snoring in the other room. I finally fell asleep
around midnight, only to be woken up by an alarm at two in the morning. There was much commotion
in the hallway, as everyone was leaving the building by stairs. Many people were scared, as the

Coming of Age in Samoa
Margaret Mead s book Coming of Age in Samoa is an anthropological study of a primitive group of
people under completely different cultural conditions than people of western society, namely America.
She chose to study a group of adolescents in the South Sea Island of Samoa, a place where one might
study a people: Whose society has never attained the complexity of our own. Mead attempts to
determine whether or not the experience of turbulence and difficulty during the time of puberty and
adolescence was universal, based mostly on biological changes, or were those experiences mostly
influenced by environment and culture.
It is no surprise that adolescence would be a turbulent time due to the very nature of the biological
changes that occur in a young person s body. Between hormonal and physical changes, cognitive
development coupled with sexual maturation it s no wonder some young people experience high
levels of conflict and exhibit acts such as insurrection. Mead s message regarding the state of
adolescence is that although adolescence is an inevitable experience, those changes are more so a
consequence of the environment and culture to which one belongs. Mead presents this view when
speaking of a primitive adolescent girl Her whole material environment was different...this routine of
life which was so different from ours, so her social environment in its attitudes towards children,
towards sex, towards personality, presented as strong a contrast to the social

My Interest Of Law Is Most Commonly Seen From Old And...
Law is most commonly seen in old and modern day tv shows with criminal being thrown behind bars
or perhaps in the news with the difficult legal system that no one adheres to anymore,, said lawyer
John Adkins in an interview. My interest in law began when I was a young girl. I would check out
books whose subjects ranged from law in general to actual criminal cases both solved and unsolved.
My mind would drink in all the details from the evidence, to the trial, and finally to the conviction of
the accused. One day, I was allowed to check out a DVD of a solved case in which the defendant was
found not guilty of the sudden and mysterious death of his wife. I was intrigued by hearing and
arguments of both sides. Convinced of the mans guilt, I set out on my own little investigation which
yielded little more than the awakening of my interest then and there. Unable to disguise my growing
interest, I told my mom of my dream to become a lawyer. She advised me to carefully think of all the
schooling required to achieve such a career. Past studies indicate the bare minimum requirements
include a high school diploma, any or all classes involving government, social studies, and economics,
speech courses, technology or computer classes. After high school, four years of basic college work is
required. College classes would have to cover: liberal arts track, english, history, economics, social

The Characteristics Of The Piltdown Man
A century ago, the Piltdown man was presented to the world as one of the most phenomenal and
astonishing discoveries of time only to be revealed as the boldest and most ingenious hoax in the
history of science.
In 1912, Charles Dawson, a scientist and an amateur archaeologist, had exhumed two skull bones and
a jawbone with two teeth after a three year excavation of the Piltdown gravel in Sussex, England.
Dawson along with Arthur Smith Woodward, imminent geologist and a caretaker of the geological
department in the British Museum claimed that the jawbone and skull fragment must have come from
the same skull as they were a seemingly good fit. The skull had characteristics of both ape and human.
Woodward named the skull Piltdown man. On 18 December 1912, they presented Piltdown man to the
world at a conference of the Geological Society of London where they exhibited a reconstructed skull.
They enthusiastically announced that the jawbone and one of skull fragments ... Show more content

which matched Dawson and Woodward s prediction about its size, was excavated a year later. In
addition to there, they also discovered another Piltdown Man. This put a stop to the doubts and
suspicions. With support from family members and the Natural History Museum, Piltdown man was
established as the earliest ancestor of humans.

Book Theatre Vs Lok Theatre
Most of us have been inside an AMC to catch a movie that we have been dying to see. Is the AMC a

something slightly different from one another. The AMC only gives you two theaters to pick from, the
normal theater, and dine in. At the LOOK Cinema, they give you three options the loft, evolution, and
look dine in. Each theater varies in price, even though the LOOK Cinema is pricier the experience is
better. If you choose the loft, only people who are twenty one and older can get in. This theater has
sofas, which makes you feel as if you are watching the movie from home. The evolution, has power
recliners, massive screens, and the best sound by Dolby Atoms. The look dine in has scrumptious and

Gender Stereotypes In Aladdin
The aim of this essay is to investigate the race, sexuality and gender stereotyping that is expressed
through the Disney film Aladdin and how these elements affect the characters. These elements will be
represented within the characters personality and back story which is then visually represented in the
characters design.
In this Disney film there is a great importance to know the history in the world during the time that
this film was established. The history during 1991 is shown through the characters. The filmmakers
established Aladdin in 1991 Gulf War that lasted six months. Conflict was present between Iraq and
34 countries in the U.N. inclusive of the United States, trying to recover order to Kuwait.

Not only do the stereotypes expressed through the characters and the play a vital role, but the
representation through body structure, style and design help create and grant these characters to be
more unique and individualistic. This allows them to contrast with other background characters and
the environment in which they live.
The way in which Disney films help maintain a respectable name for the hero is through justifying the
characters negative actions. This is present in Aladdin as he is portrayed to be a thief as he steals a loaf
of bread, just before he was about to eat the bread he then sees two children scratching through trash
to feed themselves. Aladdin in turn, gives the children the bread therefore justifying his actions of
thievery. The reasoning behind his actions help to reduce his Arabic decent and the stereotypes related

Intercultural Communication and the Conflicts between Chinese Culture and Western Culture
Abstract
There are many matters of cultural conflicts in intercultural communication of Chinese culture and
western culture, and it seriously affects the course of communication. So, it is necessary for us to find
the in depth reason and make some plans on how to improve the ability of intercultural

B. The conflicts on the sense of time
The sense of time of western people is closely related with money. The idea that Time is money has
formed in their thought. So, they set a high value on their time. In the daily time, western people have
a meticulous plan about their time and they have a good habit of coming to date on time. In western
countries, if you want to call on someone, you must inform them or date with them before you come
and you should tell them your coming purpose, the time and the place. After both of you discuss about
it, you can make it out. But, Chinese people use their time at their pleasure. Usually, Chinese people
will not do things as the western people, and western people usually feel unsuitable on this course.
Most western people spend their time in working and studying, they seldom spend a lot time in eating
or doing something else. But Chinese people spend much time on other things. For example, when
western people come to KFC to have a meal, they eat their food as soon as possible, but, the Chinese
people in KFC show another situation. They eat their food slowly and chat with each other. They do
not think this is a way to waste time.
C. The conflicts on traditional cultures
Chinese people pay special attention to modesty. When they communicate with others, they often
respect others but look down upon themselves. They think this is a virtue and this is a polite
phenomenon with Chinese characteristics. When others praise

To understand the whole child you have to understand the pieces which create a whole and balanced
child. Development of social and emotional needs, physical needs, language learning needs, and
cognitive development needs all come together cohesively to create a whole child. The best way to
encourage and educate the whole child is through play because all needs for developing the whole
child can be met during play. The keys to creating a whole child play environment is by incorporating
age appropriate toys and materials into centers created by using development appropriate practices.
The DAP s (development appropriate practices) are created by investigating and identifying the child s
current stage of development. Once you identify where they the child is developmentally, you
encourage and aide the child in learning and growing through play by using the DAP s. Each part of
the whole child s needs must be investigated and identified before you can create a successful whole

loved to play basketball. They d been at the basketball courts across from their house (Tarshis 21). The
antagonist of the story is the tsunami because the tsunami was fighting against the protagonist, Ben

The Battle Of The Texas Revolution
Our next discussion in American History takes us on the special journey back to the Texas Revolution.
This battle saw a lot of heroes and also coined one of the most famous sayings in the state of Texas,
Remember the Alamo ! However, before we can get to all the guts and glory we must first look at the
causes that lead to this epic revolution to understand both sides of the coin. I will look at the
background, battles, people and results of the Texas Revolution, as well as give my opinion of the
Mexican government s innocence or blame in this battle.

This is a point where Mexico only had 3,500 native Mexicans settled in Texas; so in 1821, the Spanish
government granted permission to Austin to settle 300 families in Texas. Austin s luck was about to
turn around for him with this deal. On the other hand, he would not see his vision come to fruition, as
he would perish on a return trip from Mexico City after being robbed. Before his untimely passing, his
son Stephen F. Austin promised his father he would carry out the task and see it until the end.
The year is now 1824 and a young Stephen F. Austin has attracted 272 colonists to Texas at this point;
in addition to that he was also able to persuade the newly independent Mexican government to give
empresarios (or land agents) 67,000 acres of land for every 200 families brought to Texas. That s
approximately 335 acres a family which is unheard of. Mexico did agree to the term with two
conditions pertaining to land ownership; first the settlers had to become Mexican citizens and
secondly they had to covert to Roman Catholicism. Converting to Roman Catholicism proved to be a
Puritan Problem , however by 1830 there were 16,000 Americans in Texas. With these numbers the
American formed a 4 to 1 majority in the northern section of Coahuila y Tejas, however overall

Islamic Banking Practices Compared to Conventional Banking...
Introduction
The co existence of conventional banking along with Islamic banking gives an exceptional platform to
compare Islamic banking practices with those of conventional banking practices. It is clearly known
that Islamic banks are different from those of conventional banks since they do not deal with interest
(Riba), i.e. usury, which is totally banned in Islam. In other words, banks are not allowed to take an
interest rate on the loans given to customers. The concept considered in Islamic banking is the profit
and loss sharing (PLS) which is based on profit sharing and joint venture that goes with Islamic
Sharia. In fact, PLS adapts the system of integration in which borrowers share profits and losses with
banks with their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Importance of the Study
The privilege of Islamic banking is that it provides the same services the conventional banks provide
but with the Islamic Sharia. What is more important of this study is to find out more about the profit
and loss sharing PLS paradigm.
Objectives of the Study
The main objective of this study is: (a) to find out the extent of using profit and sharing paradigm in
Islamic banks in Jordan; (b) to search about the main principles of Islamic interest free banking and
operations compared to interest based banking system in Jordan; and (c) to compare between
conventional deposit rates and Islamic investment rates.
This study examines the principles and criteria Islamic banking operates in providing their financial
services which make different from those of conventional banks.
The Methodology
To find out more about the usage of profit loss sharing paradigm in Islamic banking system, the
researcher will consider the long run relation and the short run dynamics between conventional
deposit rates and Islamic investment rates. To investigate about the profit and loss sharing paradigm,
we follow (Chong Ming Hua, 2009) long run and short run principles and efficiencies tests to compare
the conventional deposit rates with those of Islamic banking rates. The Bivariate Granger Causality
Test will be first used to determine the dependent and independent variables of this feature.
Two hypotheses will be tested: (a) changes in the

Persuasive Essay Homework
Have you ever heard a the bell go off signaling the end of the school day and you just want to get
home and relax, but you remember you have a ton of homework to do? This constantly happens to me
all the time. A lot times I get homework from multiple classes all in one day. Often after school I have
sports which already takes up enough time. Usually I get my assignments turned in on time, but to the
expense of spending time with friends or family. Sometimes when I get home and start doing my
homework I might struggle with the topic and there isn t a teacher there to help me, so I m left trying
to search for websites that might help me or ask my parents to help. Having homework on a daily
basis is causing problems for me, and I think incorporating time in the school day can really help in
solving this issue. There are many causes to this problem. First of all many teacher feel that they need
to give homework to see if a student understands the lesson they are on. I understand why teachers
give homework for this reason however there are many other ways of tracking a students
understanding of a lesson like giving daily warm up questions at the beginning of class. Another
reason for homework is there isn t enough dedicated time to do work at school. Teachers use
homework to use for students grades. There are many reasons for students receiving homework, but
receiving little to no homework could really be beneficial to students. Getting large amount of
homework has negatively affected me in many ways. In Is to Much Homework Bad For Kid s Health?
By Sandra Levy, it states communities who spend too much time on homework experience more
stress, physical health problems, a lack of balance in their lives, and alienation from society. I find that
homework causes me a lot of stress. Many days I find myself up late at night trying to complete
homework, and this causes a lot of stress. The next day when I go to school I m tired and get even
more stressed. When I spend time doing homework outside of school I spend less with family and
friends. I often have trouble with balancing homework, time with family, and athletics. To succeed in
the future you need to learn the skill of balancing things, but it s hard to learn it

The sound of artillery filled the air, drowning the cries of the innocent people. I struggled to watch as
hundreds of unknown men, women, and children died in this tragic event, known as the Amritsar
Massacre. In Amritsar, India s holy city of the Sikh religion, British and Gurkha troops massacre at
least 379 unarmed demonstrators meeting at the Jallianwala Bagh, a city park (History.com). The man
responsible for this monstrous event is Reginald Dyer, a British general. The actions of General Dyer
were unjust because the crowd he shot upon was nothing more than peaceful, he gave us no warning
to disperse; and after the incident, Dyer gave no medical attention or help to the wounded. In the end,

Dyer approached the entrance of the garden. He was followed by what was said to be 50 armed British

everyone stood up in surprise and peered at the soldiers. Without warning, Dyer ordered his troops to
block the garden s only exit and fired into the defenseless crowd, which included many women and
children (Grolier Online). I scrambled throughout the screaming crowd, desperately trying to find
safety. People hid behind bodies on the ground, some jumped to their death down a well in the middle
of the garden, and others were killed in the circling stampede. The soldiers fired for 10 to 15 minutes
till their ammunition was exhausted. As the terrified crowd tried to escape, they fell to the 1,650
bullets that were fired (Saha). I rushed to find safety behind a tree where I stayed, waiting and praying

Thankfully, Dr. Brookter caught the error and I fixed it. While the rest see Hip Hop/Rap music as a
black music genre that talks about money and women. But through the eyes of Rap fans and artists

this survey, my educated guess on the students is whenever they listen to Hip Hop/Rap music, it is
based on how they perceive and interpret the music because most students find ways to use Rap to
express themselves. Whether the students use the music for relaxation, workouts, or school, Rap
music is for everyone who wants to hear it. But, in the survey, WCU student surveyors say collegians

It s Time to Make Drugs Legal for Personal Use
Drugs are such a controversy and people have such strong opinions about whether they should be
legal or illegal. I don t have a strong opinion on this topic; I m easily swayed. For the most part
though, I think that they should be legalized because people do it anyways and if they were legal the
government could regulate their use and sale more, the government should be receiving the profits of
the drug business rather than dealers, marijuana has most of the same effects as cigarettes, and it s
been proven over and over how prohibition doesn t seem to work.

The most important thing for me is that people do it anyways; they always have and most likely
always will. Drug prohibition has not stopped 30 million people from trying cocaine and 60 million
people from trying marijuana. Prohibition also has not stopped the number of heroin users from
increasing by 150% and the number of cocaine users from increasing by 10,000%. Moreover,
prohibition has not kept drugs out of the hands of children: in 1988 54% of high school seniors
admitted to having tried illicit drugs; 88% said it was fairly easy or very easy to obtain marijuana: and
54% said the same about cocaine (Boaz 229). Nobody can deny these facts, and these are even facts
from the times where the war on drugs was passing stricter laws. None of the laws seemed to make a
difference accept if you get caught with drugs, you have a longer sentence. The sentence for marijuana
possession usually averages longer than a murder sentence. I really don t think it s worse to have
marijuana than kill another human being; that doesn t even begin to make sense to me.
I think that, like many other things in history, drugs will someday be legal. I mean coffee, gin, and
tobacco all used to be illegal, but now all are in regular use in the United States. The Netherlands, who
is the only country I know to legalize marijuana, surprisingly has a lower percentage of 10th graders
who have tried marijuana when compared to the United States. Maybe people wouldn t do it

Moral Justification in Greatest Happiness Principle
In Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Spock saves the Enterprise from certain destruction by going in to
the damaged warp core camber which was flooded with deadly radiation in order to fix and save the
entire crew of the Enterprise. This ended up leading to the death of Spock and in his dying words to
Admiral Kirk he says Don t grieve, Admiral. It is logical. The needs of the many outweigh ...the needs
of the few...or the one. This relates almost exactly to the words of John Stuart Mill, a Utilitarian
philosopher, on the idea of the Greatest Happiness Principle. The greatest happiness principle is kind
of simple alteration of the quote in that instead of acting out the needs of the many we can act so long
as the action promotes the greatest happiness for the greatest number of people affected. Meaning that
any action you can take can be morally justified if it brings about the most amount of happiness to the
most amounts of people. According to John Stuart Mill this is an acceptable foundation for morality
but is it really? Truly this isn t that great of a foundation for morality, one person cannot assume that
his or her actions will result in happiness other people. This is because one people associate different
meanings to their individual happiness. Also this is an unstable foundation for morality because we
cannot see every consequence for our actions as soon as they take place. There sure are immediate
results as to how our actions impact the people around us but

The Influence Of Barbie Dolls
Many children learn life skills from the toys they play with. Legos teach children how to build objects
while following direction. Coloring books help kids with motor skills and creativity. Even basketballs,
and footballs teach kids teamwork and physical endurance. Barbie dolls show girls that they have to
be put together, wear heels, and have the perfect life with the perfect car and the perfect boyfriend.
The old Barbie doll was very unhealthy in the way she looked, and this showed girls a bad example on
what their bodies needed to look like. New Barbies are made to show what a healthy person should
look like. They have new body types like curvy, short, and tall to show that not everyone looks the
same. Old Barbies brought young girls confidence down because of their unhealthy body type, while
new Barbies, with more body types, skin tones, and eye colors, boost girls confidence. Barbies are a
huge part of American girls culture, and their unhealthy body was making young girls less confident.
A study showed that after girls looked at Barbies their self esteem went down, while girls who saw a
more realistic doll felt no change in their self esteem (APA Staff). This is important because Barbies
are a large part of American culture, so if playing/looking at Barbies makes girls self esteem go down,
that means many girls in America must have some type of body confidence issue. To add on to this
point, the old version of Ken as well as Barbie shows an unhealthy body type,

Data was collected via primary and secondary sources. Descriptive statistical tools for data analysis
i.e. table, histogram and graph were used in analysing data collected. The study confirmed that margin
loans have a positive effect on the stock market and investors during periods of boom and the opposite
during periods of economic downturn and further revealed that investors have little or no idea of the
terms and conditions attached to margin loan contracts.
The study therefore recommends that investors should be properly oriented on the terms and

The Gluten Free Diet Essay
As a celiacs daughter I quickly adapted the gluten free life style out of convenience for my mother. I
would even find myself going to restaurants asking for the gluten free menu and strictly sticking to the
diet in and out of my household. I was aware that I was lacking some nutrients by not eating gluten
but to make up for it I took vitamin D pills and everyday women health vitamins but little did I know
that was not enough to keep me healthy. I was not aware of the risks I was putting myself at by
eliminating a whole category of food. I was lacking my body of calcium, fibre and iron as well as
other nutrients.
A year into my gluten free lifestyle I found myself always feeling sick, tired and cold. I had no
motivation to do anything anymore. After a month of finding myself getting worse and worse and
many trips to the doctor they finally made the diagnosis: I was lacking iron in my blood stream. Due
to my gluten free diet I was eliminating meats as they tend to be marinated in sauces that contain
gluten and whole wheats, two products that are high in iron. I was lacking my body of very important
nutrients when I was not needing too. I quickly cut my gluten free diet and starting on my healthy life
style.
While a gluten free diet can be life changing to a celiac patient it can be damaging to someone like me
who is not celiac nor gluten intolerant. Yet the gluten free diet seems to the be new black in North

Analysis Of Beuys s The Pursuit Of A Social Art
Beuys work revolved around an interaction with his audience in the pursuit of a social art. Beuys
defined social sculpture as how we mould and shape the world in which we live. This is not too
dissimilar from Lefebvre nations of social space. It is within this context which he makes his famous
claim, everyone is an artist. Here he envisioned an art form, in which society could be regarded as one
great work of art, (an interpretation of the Wagnerian Gesamtkunstwerk) to which each person can
contribute creatively. He viewed the art he made as being a stimulant for the transformation of the idea
of sculpture. They should provoke thoughts about what sculpture can be and how the concept of
sculpting can be extended to the invisible ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was during the 1960s that Beuys theoretical thought about the social, cultural and political function
of art manifested in to a physical work. Perhaps one of his most seminal works, 7000 oaks,
exemplified his belief that art could take on a form which was defined as both interdisciplinary and
participatory. Beuys placed a pile of stones in the town Kassel, Germany. From above one could see
that this pile of stones created an arrow, which pointed toward a single oak tree. He stated that the
stones should not be moved unless an oak tree was planted in the new location of the stone, over the
course of several years 7,000 oak trees were then planted by people of the town. R
This notion of a social, participatory art form can also be seen in the writing of Nicolas Bourriaud,
who wrote why wouldn t the meaning of a work have as much to do with the use one makes of it as
with the artists intentions for it. With both social sculpture and architecture, as with physical
architecture, a dialogue exists between use and structure. To a certain degree structure determines use
and yet use also effects structure. Use is both constructive and destructive, it manipulates and
transforms object to its needs. Contemplation the way in which art would traditionally be experienced,
is neither constructive or

The Pros And Cons Of Lesbianism In Audre Lorde
Lesbian, a term originating in the late 19th century, that describes homosexual women. In simpler
words, a lesbian is a woman identified woman who is either sexually, or emotionally attracted to other
woman identified women. Identifying as a lesbian means preparing yourself to be accepted by some of
society, while looked down upon and ridiculed by others, it can mean different things for different
individuals, but one thing remains the same, being lesbian comes with certain experiences, both good
and bad that you otherwise would not experience. The whole lesbian discussion becomes more
complex as we add in different intersections ranging from class, social status, to race. This brings up
the whole concept of intersectionality which describes multiple layers of oppression that exposes
individuals to systems of discrimination and leaves them at a disadvantage. However, intersectionality
is a conversation that could continue on for eternity probably introducing more interdependent
systems than the ones I mentioned. Due to the complexity of the matter, I would like to focus on and
explore just one of the intersections of lesbians that I find most intriguing: lesbians in relation to race.
Being a Black lesbian helps shape many individuals into who they are. The black lesbian experience
most certainty helped shape Audre Lorde, and developed her into the women that she came to be.
In order to clearly analyze how the black lesbian experience shaped Lorde, I am going to be focusing

Unity in Bach s Cantata No.78
Unity in Bach s Cantata No.78
According to Rowell, Musical composition became much longer, and composer were forced to evolve
new means of maintaining unity and continuity over long time spans during the Baroque period.
Therefore, the texture of music became very important. When I look at the musical texutre of the
Cantata No. 78 by J. S. Bach, I realized that this piece was unified very well within a movement and
as a whole piece by many techniques. Some of those techniques were found in the text, and the others
were in the music.
First of all, the text is well organized in terms of its unity. The piece has seven movements. According
to Fuller, The first and last movements adopt the text of an established ... Show more content on

As a length of piece gets longer, a composer needs to come up with more techniques to maintain unity.
In case of the first movement, which is 144 measures long, Bach uses the technique of variation over
the common bass line. The common bass line is a descending cromatic phrase. At the beginning of the
movement, this phrase is played by the continuo part. After it is repeated twice, the oboe takes over
the phrase. Then, when the voices start singing, they begin with a short descending cromatic phrase.
This descending cromatic phrase is played by different instruments at different time, and sometimes it
disappears, but it always comes back in the music until the end of the movement. By composing
variations over this descending cromatic phrase, Bach keeps the unity of the longest movement among
the whole Cantata No. 78.
At last, the first movement and the last movement have a very strong relationship to keep unity as a
whole piece. One of the two factors is that the melody from the last movement is sung in the several
parts of the first movement. In the first movement, soprano always sings at the end of the phrase
without any repeated word from the text. The melody of the soprano line is always the same melody
as the last movement, and the soprano sing the melody in the same order as it sung in the last
movement. For example, both movements are constructed by eight verses, and the melody of the first

Promotion Strategy Essay
At its heart, promoting a product is simply communication. Consumer perceptions are a key
component of success or failure, so organizations must strive to align communications into clear,
concise, and customer oriented messages (Lumen, n.d). The point of promotion is to convince
consumers to purchase the intended product. There are several promotion methods to choose from and
nearly limitless media to use for promotion. Marketing departments must choose the method or
methods and media that best reach the target consumer. In order to further illustrate the use of
promotion methods and media, promotion strategies have been developed for a software company, a
new toy, a health beverage, and a small airline.

Overall, this approach is indicative of the importance of the customer to the organization. It has
another benefit as well. When a small company uses multiple salespeople to contact a client it helps
the company appear larger than it is (Lumen, n.d.). There are a couple of types of media the
organization should use. First, submit the software to www.cnet.com for review. This will provide a
point of reference for anyone researching animation software and provide impartial judgment on the
merits of the software. Second, contact ideal customers and schedule a presentation of the new
advanced software. Once complete, offer a sample version of the software (with reduced functionality)
so it can be operated prior to purchasing the full version. Since there are many small companies that
create video games and other animation, I suggest attending trade shows. According to the Animation
World Network website, there are 19 tradeshows in the next 3 months (Events, n.d.). The organization
can also attend shows frequented by animators such as the E3 and South by Southwest conferences.
The proper use of these methods will ensure the news of this innovative animation software reaches
the intended target audience. While this plan works in this scenario, it does not necessarily apply to all
products.
New Toy
An organization has developed a new toy to capitalize on the popularity of a children s TV show.
There were delays in getting the toy introduced in the market

government. This was a law created by the Congress that established the highest order of legal
authority over national parks. A policy where a group of people came together in 1916 and decided to
make a law/policy to set aside special and unique land so it wouldn t be used for any franchise
purposes. Its a way of conserving the scenery or the natural or historic objects in any such park
monument or reservation. (NPS.gov, 2002) This is a way of saying that the national forest, seashores,

  • 2. My Service Learning With Child Protective Services ( Cps ) First Impressions Before taking this class or completing my service learning with Child Protective Services (CPS), I really had not had any experience with CPS. I just made the assumption that the agency was biased and flawed based on the experiences other people had with CPS. I also did not think it would be a place that I would want to work because I did not want to work with children, although now I realize that was a really unfair opinion I had of the agency. I also thought a lot of people abused the service because I had heard a lot of stories of people calling CPS on each other out of spite. After learning about CPS and being able to observe what the agency does, I do realize the agency is not what I thought it was. I also realize ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My first day was my only day in the office though, after a while Ms. Green stopped responding to my emails. From my understanding it was not Ms. Green who was avoiding me, it was the agency preventing her from communicating with not only me, but with other families who she could have been working with. I became so frustrated and disappointed that I was getting gypped from the service learning portion of class. I also imagine the families she was working with were frustrated as well because they were stuck in a sort of limbo. Even though I was not able to go back to the CPS office and complete any more hours there, I did get the opportunity to observe a case in court. Which definitely made me place some faith back into the agency, it made everything we learned in class click together for me. In particular there were some terms that came up in court that I remember discussing in class, such as family reunification, safe and stable housing, and the family service plan. I really felt like I was able to fully understand what was happening during the hearing because we covered so much in class. This case involved three children who were currently living in foster care with a family, and their parents who were trying to get the three children returned to them. The occurrence of irony rests over the entire piece because as Sedaris describes his special problems and tics and habits the audience becomes aware that he is suffering from OCD, despite those in the essay being unaware of it. There is also situational irony for example when his father tells him that: College is the best thing that can ever happen to you and Sedaris comments He was right . This is ironic because it leads the audience to assume he might have overcome is Disorder, when actually he was referring to discovering drugs, drinking, and smoking . This Film is Not Yet Rated is a documentary directed by Kirby Dick, and produced by Eddie Schmidt about the Motion Picture Association of America (or the MPAA) and their often unjust rules in rating movies. The MPAA s rating system is as follows: G and PG are the same as they are in Australia, M is called PG 13 in America, MA15+ is R, and R18+ is NC 17, the latter being the strongest rating. The difference between an R movie and an NC 17 movie can be as wide as hundreds of millions of dollars, and is factored by disparities between Hollywood and indie filmmakers, straight and gay sex, male and female sexual depictions and violent and sexual content. Little is known about the production process of This Film Is Not Yet Rated, other than it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An unrated cut was made in response to the NC 17 rating, which prevented the documentary from being publicly screened without review. Dick originally planned to get permission from the studios to use their clips from NC 17 rated films, but he discovered that studio licensing agreements would have prohibited him from using the clips to criticize the MPAA. This prompted Dick to use the clips under the fair use doctrine, which allows copyrighted clips to be used for criticism, and lead to greater interest among documentary filmmakers in fair use as a result. This Film Is Not Yet Rated premiered at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival, and was given a standing ovation and subsequently received positive reviews from critics. It has an 84% Certified Fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 117 reviews and a score of 75/100 on Metacritic based on 33 reviews, indicating Generally favourable reviews . Critics praised the revelations surrounding the MPAA, as well as its humour. Some critics were less receptive, calling it smug and criticised the documentary for its unbalanced viewpoint and a supposed lack of research. The documentary continued to draw crowds at many more festivals, including South by Screenwest and the Seattle International Film Festival, and went into theatrical release in select theatres on September ... In order to understand the constructed identity of Aboriginal women in Canada today and in the past, it is necessary to discuss ideas of empire, including Manifest Destiny and Terra Nullius. These European concepts were and generally still form the ideology operating in Canada. Expansion of the ruling class empire is taken for granted and divinely supported. This is the basis for European exploration of the globe, claiming of already occupied lands and colonization of existing peoples. Manifest Destiny was the 19th Century settler belief that it was their destiny to expand throughout North America. Terra Nullius is the concept that land determined to be empty, in other words not being used productively by a civilized people, could be occupied by those Europeans who found it. Of course, both of these concepts belong to the ideology of European empire expansion which indisputably devalued the existing Aboriginal communities. • 6. Successful Aging The article, Understanding and Theorizing the Role of Culture in the Conceptualizations of Successful Aging and Lifelong Learning by Maureen Tam (2014), seeks to explore how successful aging and lifelong learning is understood in different cultural contexts, within and between cultures. Tam (2014) articulates that successful aging and lifelong learning are value laden concepts that are culturally determined. To this effect, people with different value systems and cultural backgrounds may perceive and understand these two concepts differently, resulting in different definitions and conceptualizations by people in diverse cultural contexts (p. 881). Tam s article successfully addresses her thesis that the concepts of successful aging and lifelong learning are value laden and are culturally constructed, by providing qualitative research that supports her claims. Tam succeeds in her argument by introducing The Kluckhohnian Framework of Cultural Variation, which provides a better understanding of how diverse cultures conceptualize important concepts in different and similar ways. These tests did not have the device installed in order to record and understand the basic performance of a shock wave coming straight from the shock tube. To record the pressure profile of the wave within the expansion section, GageScope was used. A trigger was set to detect a rapid rise in voltage from the pressure transducer, and the program would record 1ms before and 10ms after the trigger. The initial baseline test can be seen in Figure X below. For a greater focus on the effects of the device on the shock wave, all charts for comparison has been narrowed to 2ms after the trigger. The two significant runs showing the pressure profile of the shock wave are shown in Figures X Y. Ever since I was ten years old, I have enjoyed SCUBA diving with my family. We have done it many times, and it is one of my favorite hobbies. In the Summer of 2016, my father and I took an unforgettable trip centered around it. We drove down to Fort Myers and got aboard a dive boat headed to the Dry Tortugas, a small island chain to the west of the Keys. Not only did we enjoy the diving and spearfishing, but we had a great time on the journey down. We began our journey by spending a night at my grandparents house in Savannah, Georgia. Their house has always been a constant in my life, seeming more familiar than some houses I have lived in myself. I enjoyed visiting my family there as always, and it was great to start off the trip with such a familiar location. The next day, we headed to Florida. Coming of Age in Samoa Margaret Mead s book Coming of Age in Samoa is an anthropological study of a primitive group of people under completely different cultural conditions than people of western society, namely America. She chose to study a group of adolescents in the South Sea Island of Samoa, a place where one might study a people: Whose society has never attained the complexity of our own. Mead attempts to determine whether or not the experience of turbulence and difficulty during the time of puberty and adolescence was universal, based mostly on biological changes, or were those experiences mostly influenced by environment and culture. It is no surprise that adolescence would be a turbulent time due to the very nature of the biological changes that occur in a young person s body. Between hormonal and physical changes, cognitive development coupled with sexual maturation it s no wonder some young people experience high levels of conflict and exhibit acts such as insurrection. Mead s message regarding the state of adolescence is that although adolescence is an inevitable experience, those changes are more so a consequence of the environment and culture to which one belongs. Law is most commonly seen in old and modern day tv shows with criminal being thrown behind bars or perhaps in the news with the difficult legal system that no one adheres to anymore,, said lawyer John Adkins in an interview. My interest in law began when I was a young girl. I would check out books whose subjects ranged from law in general to actual criminal cases both solved and unsolved. My mind would drink in all the details from the evidence, to the trial, and finally to the conviction of the accused. One day, I was allowed to check out a DVD of a solved case in which the defendant was found not guilty of the sudden and mysterious death of his wife. I was intrigued by hearing and arguments of both sides. Convinced of the mans guilt, I set out on my own little investigation which yielded little more than the awakening of my interest then and there. In the daily time, western people have a meticulous plan about their time and they have a good habit of coming to date on time. In western countries, if you want to call on someone, you must inform them or date with them before you come and you should tell them your coming purpose, the time and the place. Usually, Chinese people will not do things as the western people, and western people usually feel unsuitable on this course. Most western people spend their time in working and studying, they seldom spend a lot time in eating or doing something else. But Chinese people spend much time on other things. For example, when western people come to KFC to have a meal, they eat their food as soon as possible, but, the Chinese people in KFC show another situation. They eat their food slowly and chat with each other. They do not think this is a way to waste time. C. The conflicts on traditional cultures Chinese people pay special attention to modesty. This constantly happens to me all the time. A lot times I get homework from multiple classes all in one day. Often after school I have sports which already takes up enough time. Usually I get my assignments turned in on time, but to the expense of spending time with friends or family. Sometimes when I get home and start doing my homework I might struggle with the topic and there isn t a teacher there to help me, so I m left trying to search for websites that might help me or ask my parents to help. Having homework on a daily basis is causing problems for me, and I think incorporating time in the school day can really help in solving this issue. There are many causes to this problem. First of all many teacher feel that they need to give homework to see if a student understands the lesson they are on. I understand why teachers give homework for this reason however there are many other ways of tracking a students understanding of a lesson like giving daily warm up questions at the beginning of class. Another reason for homework is there isn t enough dedicated time to do work at school. Teachers use homework to use for students grades. There are many reasons for students receiving homework, but receiving little to no homework could really be beneficial to students. Getting large amount of homework has negatively affected me in many ways. In Is to Much Homework Bad For Kid s Health? • 42. Analysis Of Beuys s The Pursuit Of A Social Art Beuys work revolved around an interaction with his audience in the pursuit of a social art. Beuys defined social sculpture as how we mould and shape the world in which we live. This is not too dissimilar from Lefebvre nations of social space. It is within this context which he makes his famous claim, everyone is an artist. Here he envisioned an art form, in which society could be regarded as one great work of art, (an interpretation of the Wagnerian Gesamtkunstwerk) to which each person can contribute creatively. He viewed the art he made as being a stimulant for the transformation of the idea of sculpture. They should provoke thoughts about what sculpture can be and how the concept of sculpting can be extended to the invisible ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was during the 1960s that Beuys theoretical thought about the social, cultural and political function of art manifested in to a physical work. Perhaps one of his most seminal works, 7000 oaks, exemplified his belief that art could take on a form which was defined as both interdisciplinary and participatory. Beuys placed a pile of stones in the town Kassel, Germany. From above one could see that this pile of stones created an arrow, which pointed toward a single oak tree. He stated that the stones should not be moved unless an oak tree was planted in the new location of the stone, over the course of several years 7,000 oak trees were then planted by people of the town. R This notion of a social, participatory art form can also be seen in the writing of Nicolas Bourriaud, who wrote why wouldn t the meaning of a work have as much to do with the use one makes of it as with the artists intentions for it. With both social sculpture and architecture, as with physical architecture, a dialogue exists between use and structure. To a certain degree structure determines use and yet use also effects structure. Use is both constructive and destructive, it manipulates and transforms object to its needs. Contemplation the way in which art would traditionally be experienced, is neither constructive or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. The Pros And Cons Of Lesbianism In Audre Lorde Lesbian, a term originating in the late 19th century, that describes homosexual women. In simpler words, a lesbian is a woman identified woman who is either sexually, or emotionally attracted to other woman identified women. Identifying as a lesbian means preparing yourself to be accepted by some of society, while looked down upon and ridiculed by others, it can mean different things for different individuals, but one thing remains the same, being lesbian comes with certain experiences, both good and bad that you otherwise would not experience. The whole lesbian discussion becomes more complex as we add in different intersections ranging from class, social status, to race. This brings up the whole concept of intersectionality which describes multiple layers of oppression that exposes individuals to systems of discrimination and leaves them at a disadvantage. However, intersectionality is a conversation that could continue on for eternity probably introducing more interdependent systems than the ones I mentioned. Due to the complexity of the matter, I would like to focus on and explore just one of the intersections of lesbians that I find most intriguing: lesbians in relation to race. Being a Black lesbian helps shape many individuals into who they are. The black lesbian experience most certainty helped shape Audre Lorde, and developed her into the women that she came to be. In order to clearly analyze how the black lesbian experience shaped Lorde, I am going to be focusing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Unity in Bach s Cantata No.78 Unity in Bach s Cantata No.78 According to Rowell, Musical composition became much longer, and composer were forced to evolve new means of maintaining unity and continuity over long time spans during the Baroque period. Therefore, the texture of music became very important. When I look at the musical texutre of the Cantata No. 78 by J. S. Bach, I realized that this piece was unified very well within a movement and as a whole piece by many techniques. Some of those techniques were found in the text, and the others were in the music. First of all, the text is well organized in terms of its unity. The piece has seven movements. According to Fuller, The first and last movements adopt the text of an established ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a length of piece gets longer, a composer needs to come up with more techniques to maintain unity. In case of the first movement, which is 144 measures long, Bach uses the technique of variation over the common bass line. The common bass line is a descending cromatic phrase. At the beginning of the movement, this phrase is played by the continuo part. After it is repeated twice, the oboe takes over the phrase. Then, when the voices start singing, they begin with a short descending cromatic phrase. This descending cromatic phrase is played by different instruments at different time, and sometimes it disappears, but it always comes back in the music until the end of the movement. By composing variations over this descending cromatic phrase, Bach keeps the unity of the longest movement among the whole Cantata No. 78. At last, the first movement and the last movement have a very strong relationship to keep unity as a whole piece. One of the two factors is that the melody from the last movement is sung in the several parts of the first movement. In the first movement, soprano always sings at the end of the phrase without any repeated word from the text. The melody of the soprano line is always the same melody as the last movement, and the soprano sing the melody in the same order as it sung in the last movement. For example, both movements are constructed by eight verses, and the melody of the first ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Promotion Strategy Essay At its heart, promoting a product is simply communication. Consumer perceptions are a key component of success or failure, so organizations must strive to align communications into clear, concise, and customer oriented messages (Lumen, n.d). The point of promotion is to convince consumers to purchase the intended product. There are several promotion methods to choose from and nearly limitless media to use for promotion. Marketing departments must choose the method or methods and media that best reach the target consumer. In order to further illustrate the use of promotion methods and media, promotion strategies have been developed for a software company, a new toy, a health beverage, and a small airline. When a small company uses multiple salespeople to contact a client it helps the company appear larger than it is (Lumen, n.d.). There are a couple of types of media the organization should use. First, submit the software to www.cnet.com for review. This will provide a point of reference for anyone researching animation software and provide impartial judgment on the merits of the software. Second, contact ideal customers and schedule a presentation of the new advanced software. Once complete, offer a sample version of the software (with reduced functionality) so it can be operated prior to purchasing the full version. Since there are many small companies that create video games and other animation, I suggest attending trade shows. According to the Animation World Network website, there are 19 tradeshows in the next 3 months (Events, n.d.). The organization can also attend shows frequented by animators such as the E3 and South by Southwest conferences. The proper use of these methods will ensure the news of this innovative animation software reaches the intended target audience. While this plan works in this scenario, it does not necessarily apply to all products. New Toy An organization has developed a new toy to capitalize on the popularity of a children s TV show.
