Comparing The Battle Of East Berlin And West Germany After...
After World War II ended with the defeat of Nazty Germany and the victory of the Allied Powers,
conflicts aroused for Germany s territory. Leaders from the allied powers United States, France, and
United Kingdom; and the Soviet Union, the four powers divided Germany into four occupation zones
for equality purposes. This division was approved at the Potsdam Conference in 1944 the United
States, United Kingdom and Soviet Union had agreed on the zones. The Allied Powers occupied west
Germany, while the Soviet Union ruled east Germany. Also, the capital of Germany, Berlin lied in the
center of east Germany so they divided that into four zones.Later on, France and the United Kingdom
gave their territories in Berlin to the United States, which also later on becomes known as East Berlin
and West Berlin. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After experiencing great losses from German invasions in the First and Second World War, Soviet
leader Stalin preferred while Germany was defeated, it must be broken and divided so that it could not
rise to power to threaten European peace. At the Tehran Conference between US President Roosevelt
and the Soviet leader Stalin in 1943, the two countries agreed that after the war, Germany would be
divided and occupied equally. At the final wartime conference, they met again at Yalta in 1945, which
becomes known as the Yalta Conference, the two powers agreed to move the eastern border of
Germany to the West, making Poland on the eastern section of that country occupied by the Soviet

What Is The Difference Between Beowulf And The Wanderer
Time is something that humanity has not been able to conquer. Specifically, John Niles says that time
and an indifferent fate blot out even the most glorious of human achievements. He means that one
person s accomplishments and material rewards will eventually be forgotten over time and thus mean
nothing. This concept of time as an eraser can be seen in both Beowulf and The Wanderer where the
past is diminished into a shadow of what it once was before eventually being forgotten.
In Beowulf, there are many instances where the poet will convey how ephemeral a man s
achievements in life can be after he is taken by death. Beowulf tells Hrothgar, For every one of us,
living in this world/ means waiting for our end. Let whoever can/ win glory before death. When a
warrior is gone,/ that will be his best and only bulwark (Beowulf Ln 1386 9). Beowulf says that glory
won in life only matters to the warrior after he is dead, and no amount of riches or wealth can help
him in the afterlife. The warrior fades from the cultural memory until he is totally forgotten. Hrothgar
reminds Beowulf of this later in the poem, Do not give way to pride./ For a brief while your strength is
in bloom/ but it fades quickly...and death will arrive,/ dear warrior, to sweep you away (Beowulf Ln
1760 8). Hrothgar warns Beowulf that his strength and prowess will not last long and when they fail,
so too will his legend fade over time. The king says that Beowulf should focus on more spiritual
rewards than material ones since the material gains will eventually wither or be no help to him in the
afterlife. After death, time and fate will take away his legend and then his achievements will be
meaningless. At the end of the poem, Beowulf speaks his last words to Wiglaf as he realizes what
death has done to his clan. You are the last of us, the only one left/ of the Waegmundings. Fate swept
us away,/ sent my whole brave high born clan/ to their final doom, (Beowulf Ln 2813 6). Fate sent
death to Beowulf s clan and with his death, the clan will fall into obscurity over time and eventually
be forgotten. The Beowulf poet shows in many places how easy it is for death, and through it time and
fate, to wipe out any trace of man s achievements.

Loss Of Identity Paper
Loss of identity Identity is the all encompassing view of who you are as an individual and contain
many different parts such as your goals, values and beliefs as well as your standards for behavior and
decision making (Schwartz, Luyckx, Vignoles, 2011). Many individuals suffering from ME feel a loss
of identity as the illness progresses. Dickson, Knussen, and Flowers (2008) discusses how ME forces
a change in an individuals identity, though the progression of the illness they are now experiencing life
outside of what is normal for them and outside of their normal world. In one study participants spoke
of ME controlling every aspect of their daily lives, there is a strong focus on what ME has taken away
from them, leading individuals to question what is left in their lives (Dickson, Knussen, Flowers,

This loss of identity is intensified by the level of stigma and delegitimisation experienced by ME
sufferers (Arroll Howard, 2013; Dickson, Knussen, Flowers, 2008, Hughes, 2009; Wright 2015) When
an individual looses all the things in life that create meaning for them they are left with an empty shell
, individuals feel robbed of their own lives (Dickson, Knussen, Flowers, 2008; Pemberton Cox,
2014a). OT perspective ME affects all areas of the Canadian model of Occupational Performance.

Jack The Ripper Identity
In the dark early morning hours on the streets of London s East End between the months of August
and November in 1888, a deranged and depraved person would roam the streets to murder at least five
women participating in prostitution in the Whitechapel district. On November 9, 1888, fate would
have Mary Jane Kelly brutally attacked at her place of residence and subsequently murdered and
mutilated beyond imagination. The most likely suspect was the increasingly bloodthirsty and still
anonymous killer dubbed Jack the Ripper. Nearly 130 years later, forensic science and criminology
experts have failed to agree on the true identity of Jack the Ripper. Hopefully, through psychological,
geographical and genetic profiling, a better perspective of who

Zoo Observation Essay
Last week I had the opportunity to visit the Los Angeles zoo on a beautiful, sunny Thursday (October
19th). Although I arrived off schedule which left a minimal amount of time to observe primates, I
managed my time well. After being told that the larger animals get put away earlier, I figured my first
stop would be at an ape enclosure. The ape I chose to see that day was the gorilla. The time that I
began my observation was at approximately 3:05. At that time only one ape was quite visible and he
was sitting at the front making eye contact with me making it seem as if he is HABITUATED. Next,
post gorilla watching, I had the chance to take a gander at the ring railed lemurs at 3:40. These
prosimians all had their own personalities which interested me deeply. Lastly, and certainly not least
on my journey through the LA zoo, I had the chance of looking at the mandrills which were once
classified as baboons. Considering that two baby mandrills were present and only a month old, this
was my favorite exhibit to see because of their high energy and randomness of actions. Beginning
with the most intelligent of the bunch, the (western lowland) gorillas I observed were quite inactive.
This is certainly so because they are known to only be hunted by man leaving no competition outside
of their own species. This fact makes it apparent why these kings of the jungle sit around so often. In
the wild and even in zoos it may be difficult for a male to find mates because groups of gorillas are
POLYGYNOUS. So usually one male is the father of all of the offspring. Being this way, male
gorillas must display DOMINANCE over others and even stand their ground against an incoming
male that may threaten the family. Going back to how they sit all day, gorillas are able to do this
because they don t even have to move to replenish energy for the reason that they are grass and leaf
eaters (vegetarians). Not having to move very much makes gorillas capable of having a low quality
diet. Moving forward, ring tailed lemurs showed the greatest amount of ALTRUISM. They kindly
groomed each other for an extensive amount of time, showing a great bond between one another. Also,
their ability to move quickly and jump high showed off their MOTOR

Theory X, Theory Y
Theory X, Theory Y by Douglas McGregor is a motivation theory. Douglas McGregor is a social
psychologist and applied two sets of assumptions to the organizational structure called Theory X and
Theory Y. His theory is based on managerial views of human beings. In his book, The Human Side of
Enterprise, he outlined a new role for managers. He stated that managers should assist subordinates in
reaching their full potential, rather than commanding and controlling. Theory X is negative and
Theory Y can be stated as the opposite, positive. Douglas concluded that managers shaped their
behavior towards workers based on either the X or Y views.
Theory X presumes that average employees dislike work, are lazy, dislike responsibility, and must be
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Theory X and Y call for managers to examine their assumptions about human nature and see how
these models lead to managerial practices. These assumptions will be reflected in management
attitudes toward employees, the kind and amount of participation they allow, and the outcomes they
expect. The strength of McGregor s theory is its significance. When McGregor formulated his theory,
companies competed on their ability to mass produce goods. Today, however, paying attention to the
human aspect is a requirement if any organization. Without a powerfully motivated, highly skilled,
self reliant human resource, organizations do not stand a chance to survive, much less compete.
McGregor s theory provides the solution to problems related to the human aspect of an organization.
Some of the weaknesses in McGregor s Theory X and Theory Y theory are that there is only so much
money that can be offered as motivation and only so much control that can be applied. People change
and so do motivators. McGregor states that a satisfied need no longer motivates. This theory has no
evidence to support Theory X or Theory Y. There s no validity in the assumption that managers who
modify their actions or behaviors will lead to more motivated workers (textbook citation p177). It is
part of the manager s job to exercise control and influence, and there are situations in which this

Midlife Crisis Research Paper
Growing up I would hear my mother talking to her friends and saying how my dad was going through
a midlife crisis. I would then hear the term again and again in life but I still had no clue what it really
meant. Midlife crisis is a term referring to a critical phase in human development during the forties to
early sixties, based on the character of change points, or periods of transition. The period is said to
vary among individuals and between men and women. So I will break down what happens during this
transition in a man and woman s life. I will also discuss what could cause this to happen in ones life.
Male midlife crisis is defined by researchers as having a personal turmoil and coping challenges in
people brought on by fears and anxieties about growing older. (Lang, S. 2001)This emotional
transition will be experience by many men generally between the ages of 45 and 60, but men as young
as 40 can also experience it. Men are susceptible to this condition especially if they have had a
transition in their life or they have experienced something traumatic. Most men can deal with this
process without making any major changes to their lifestyles ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

A stereotype of woman suffering a midlife crisis is one who is physically unattractive, childless, not
interested in sex, menopausal, depressed, irritable, frustrated and intellectually dull. Which are not true
females that have a midlife crisis normally are working, have children and are married. Midlife crisis
is relatively understudied for women. Initially, it was thought that the causes of midlife crisis for men
were also the causes of midlife crisis for women which are not the case. Midlife crisis in women is not
an inevitable result of menopausal depression or empty nest syndrome ( Mcquaide, S.

Utilitarianism Vs. Utilitarianism Theory
In the history of philosophy Utilitarianism has been viewed as one of the best of the moral theories. It
has become one the most powerful, influential, and most persuasive approach to normative ethics. The
utilitarianism theory also has had a major impacts on approaches to economic, political, and social
policy. The utilitarianism theory had originally had been created by Jeremy Bentham. His version of
was that aggregate pleasure after deducting suffering of all involved in any action. However, this was
later revised by John Stuart Mill He has revised the concept of utility and has brought forth the
Greatest Happiness Principle .
First off, utilitarianism is the philosophical view about how we should evaluate a things that are
involve choices that people have to make. These things that are evaluated are actions, laws, policies,
character traits, and moral codes. In general, whatever is being evaluated, we are the ones that have to
choose the one that will produce the best overall results. Utilitarianism is also a form of
consequentialism this is because utilitarianism is based on the consequences or results of actions that
are the only standard of right and wrong. Utilitarian s say that we should choose the option that has
maximizes utility, i.e. that action or policy that produces the largest amount of good. Although it may
be similar to Utilitarianism is distinctly different from other forms of consequentialism such as egoism
as it considers all interests equally. On

Human Resource Management And Human Resources
Human resource management entails the management of the people working in an organization. These
are the people who are entrusted to help meet the organizations objectives. They start from the lowest
level employees to the top management. Human resource management therefore, encompasses the
entire workforce who help to uplift and grow the company into the great multinational corporations
they are from their inception to date. The significance of the human resources in organizations has
become more evident over the years as more managers discover the relationship between
organizational performance and employee retention and satisfaction. Therefore, they must strive to
gain the best employees to represent their interests in the market. People who will work together to
meet the organizations objectives and people who will make the organization have a competitive
advantage over all others in the market. The human resources approach to management emphasizes
the importance of human capital in the organization. This paper describes the role of human resource
management in an organization. It also analyses the differences between personnel management and
human resource management as well as the phases of human resource planning. The second part of the
paper analyses the factors involved in the recruitment of employees, and factors pertaining to
employee payment, job evaluation and cessation of employment. The third part of the paper focusses

The Pros And Cons Of Telehealth
Telehealth Introduction Telehealth is the use of technology for the exchange of health information in a

and applications such as smart phone devices, video conferencing, emails, and other wireless
applications are used for the convenience and improvement of delivery of healthcare. It has the
advantage of connecting healthcare personnel and primary care provider with patients and provides
knowledge through the network system regarding patient care and monitoring (Katzman, 2013).

Fitness
Obesity is a very common problem faced, which if not taken care of in time, can lead to many lifestyle
diseases such as heart disease, cancer and diabetes. Engaging in physical activities help to burn
calories and lose fat. Regular exercising builds muscles, makes the immune system strong and
improves upon stamina. This increases the fitness levels and keeps various diseases and health
conditions in check.
It Builds Self Esteem
Students who are active in physical activities like basketball, volleyball, martial arts and running just
to name a few are more confident with themselves according to most social school studies. It s
probably because of the self discipline and dedication to excel in a sport that brings out the best in
students. In school, the physical education program introduces these sport activities to students
allowing them to make choices to which sport areas they want to get involved in.
Life Lessons
By participating in various sports, a student gets to learn so many things about life. A student wins
some games and loses some; this makes him understand that winning and losing are a part of life and
should be accepted with grace. When a student participates in team games, he learns that co operating

Social Life of Coffee in England Research Paper
Depression, stress, workloads are outcomes from the overloading of the society. Because of the hard
time limits of the schedule, office workers constantly get tired. People repeat the same procedures
every day: get out from the bed, get ready to go to the office, drive to the office, work the whole day,

Coffee houses were open for everyone and owners tried to equalize their visitors. It was unacceptable

It, also, gave the opportunity to learn something new from newspapers, pamphlets or any advertising

Well, it was a cold day, actually pretty warm for an afternoon in the middle of March. I could actually

not they made varsity. SLAM! Went the door as my coach walked into the gym. It was like it was

coaches all stared at me with big smiles on their faces. The bright lights, as bright as the sun, hung
over my head and the odor of dirty cleats stained the furniture and walls. Softball is a very hard,

Classical Music Appreciation Essay
One thing I m grateful for in my life is growing up with a background in classical music appreciation.
I remember my parents had a record of Prokofiev s Peter and the Wolf at home, and I would listen to it
all the time. The depth of the music was fascinating to my little brain, especially compared to the
childish Disney songs and bubblegum pop hits of the 90 s that I d otherwise hear on the radio. But the
reason why this work helped me with understanding music was that it was specifically aimed at kids
in order to teach them how to pick out leitmotifs, or unique, repeated phrases in the songs. Leitmotifs
are often used in classical works to tell a story, and certain instruments or melodies can represent

Social Norms In Sociology
To start, I will discuss what social norms are. Societal norms are both unwritten informal rules that are
accepted by people and written formal rules that are strictly enforced laws, of how people should carry
themselves (Keirns, et al., 2016). Social norms are part of the socialization process. The socialization
process is the way people learn the norms and beliefs of our society to fit in (Keirns, et al., 2016, n.p.).
Some examples of social norms are looking into the eyes of the person you are speaking with, using
silverware instead of your hands when eating, and saying excuse me when you belch in front of
someone. Societal norms give myself and people guidelines of how to carry themselves in different
situations. More importantly, social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gender role is described as the perception the society has on how males and females should carry
themselves in terms of appearance and behaviors. Some examples of perceptions the society has on
women in the home are, they need to know how to cook, take care of the children, and manage the
house. I applied this sociological concept because I see the perception evident in my log. During my
husband absence, I manage the house by making sure my daughter made it to school, the house stayed
clean and provided my children meals. When my husband is home, and I am at work, he is usually
taking on my role until I get back. When I do get back home from work, my husband basically expects
me to perform the gender role of a woman in the house. Sociologists Schieman and Taylor (2001)
studies stated women s role in the society are traditionally revolved around tasked that are household
related. They also stated that in the society, men and women are expected to have different
responsibilities within the home. Women s central role is often linked to family, even while involved
in the workforce, men s core role often tends to be associated with paid employment (Schieman
Taylor, 2001, p. 473). This verifies that the examples I stated earlier about the perception the society
has on the gender role of women are

Literature Review On Intelligence
Search strategy
PsycINFO was the database I used for this literature summary. Firstly, I searched articles relate to
breastfeeding. I tried to exhaust the results on this topic by changing three kinds of phrasings (breast
feeding, breastfeeding or breast fed), and they turned out to be 4,133. Secondly, I searched articles
relate to intelligence and because of the numerous amount of studies in this field, I specified it by
choosing the following interested scopes cognitive ability, cognitive development, intelligence
quotient, intelligence, and IQ. I also searched for cognitive measurement as a performance of
intelligence, using Cognit* to widen the results. I added up the articles on intelligence and cognition
by the OR Boolean operator and got 430,710 results. Next, I applied the AND Boolean operator to
combine breastfeeding with intelligence and gained 262 pieces of studies. With the aim of exploring
more about the confounding effect on past literature, I searched confound in three ways, namely
confound, confounded or confounded. The previous 262 outcomes which were intersected with
confound then attenuated to 22, this step also helped me narrow the scope down. All of the searches

Calculus Used In The Pantheon
An oculus denotes a circular opening in the center of a dome or in a wall, the oculus was used by the
Romans, one of the finest examples being that in the dome of the Pantheon. Open to the weather. It
allows rain to enter and fall to the floor. Where it is carried away through drains. Though the opening
looks small, it actually has a diameter of 27 ft; allowing it to light the building just as the sun lights the
earth. The rain also keeps the building cool during the hot summer months. Oculi have been used over
the centuries in architectural landmarks across Europe and the Middle East. There were oculi used in
the architecture of the Byzantine Empire and oculi were applied to buildings in Syria in the 5th and

Impact Of The Progressive Movement
At the turn of the twentieth century many things needed a change in order for a better society. The
Progress Movement was an extension of reformers ideas and programs of the late nineteenth century.
The Progressive Movement was a period of social activism and political reform in the United States
that flourished from the 1890s to the 1920s. The European immigrants were one of the many to have
an impact of the Progressive Movement. High minded European messengers of the social gospel
promoted a brand of progressivism based on Christian teachings. A social gospel was the reform
movement led by Protestant ministers who used religious doctrine to demand better housing and living
conditions for the urban poor. Social gospel was very popular at the turn of the twentieth century; it
closely linked to the settlement house movement, which brought middle class, Anglo American
service volunteers into contact with immigrants and working people. Meanwhile, feminists ... Show

This resulted in the popular vote election; this allowed the voice of the voters to be heard. The public
now felt like they were finally being heard again, the public could choose who was voted in to office,
who would not be in office, and what laws would be made official. The political reformers believed
that woman s vote would elevate the political tone, and the foes of the saloon felt that they could count
on the support of enfranchised females. But it would take until the very end of the Progressive
Movement, 1920, when women actually get the right to vote. The Progressive Movement had

Steam Engine Essay
The Steam Engine and the Maxim are both forms of technology which were man made that impacted
the world. The steam engine was used to make transportation easier and more convenient for people.
The Maxim gun on the other hand was used to conquer parts of the world and show superiority over
over other groups of people. While both inventions helped groups of people get what they wanted to
survive and thrive for many years, the Steam Engine is more superior compared to the Maxim. The
idea of the Steam Engine originated from a man named Thomas Savery, an English inventor and
engineer. Thomas Savery invented the Steam Engine in 1698. Mines were places where people could
find resources, material to sell, and material to trade. A common problem ... Show more content on

When it came to weaponry Great Britain was always ahead of the game. Always trading old weapons
while having new weapons with them at all times. The most powerful weapon at that time was the
Maxim gun. The Maxim was invented by Hiram Maxim in 1883. Great Britain was one of the most
dominant countries who wanted Afric. Technology was what could explain their dominance. When
they took parts of Africa the Africans were unable to fight against them. That was because they could
not fight with arrows and a shotgun, while their opponents had a machine gun waiting for them. Great
Britain always had the best weapons. The Maxim was the ultimate weapon. It was a machine gun that
no one could stop.
Though the Maxim did what it was made to do, which was showing dominance and getting territory, it
only helped a specific group of people. Since it was a gun it was obviously used to kill people. The
only people in Africa at the time were Africans. The Maxim was only used for dominance and
claiming territory, because it looked like no other gun at that time. Not really used to help the
continent let alone help the world.
While both inventions helped people achieve their goals one helped more people than the other. The
Steam Engine as stated before helped many miners do their job and get a paycheck. It is also more
significant because it became another idea, and sparked new inventions. Those ideas being the
inventions of cars, trains, and planes. While the Maxim was able to accomplish

How Healthy Are The Youth Of Today s Population
How healthy are the youth of today s population? With the rise in childhood obesity, the lack of
prenatal care for expecting mothers, and lack of coverage for many Americans there is a need to
evaluate the health of our youth and the availability of services and education. The current youth are
the future workforce of the nation. Lessening the risk of chronic illness, obesity, and stabilizing
environmental conditions will allow the upcoming generation to help build a stronger economy. A
stronger workforce, a healthier society with less medical cost strain, and a healthier environment are
all gains to be had through improvements and health education. Community outreach programs,
healthy lifestyles, and ensuring vaccine availability for all children are a few simple steps to
developing healthy generation. Per Maya Rossin Slater in her article Promoting Health in Early
Childhood, Children who are healthy early in life from conception to age five not only grow up to be
healthier adults, they are also better educated, earn more, and contribute more to the economy . It is no
secret that the current healthcare system in the United States lags in comparison to other countries.
America has the most expensive system and still the sickest population. We allocate trillions of dollars
to the health care services and only a fraction to population wide services. Just as there is not an even
distribution of funds in healthcare allocation, the same goes for childhood health. There are

Specify a large population that you might want to study and describe the type numeric measurement

The lunch program at High School has been revised to align with the new dietary requirements that
increase servings of veggies and fruits and decrease calories. Giving a survey to all students about the
school lunches is what I planned on doing.
The type of numeric measurements that I would need to collect would be:
1. The number of days that student will eat in the school within the week?
2. How many students like salads and fruits as compared to other meat servings (pasta, pizza,
hamburgers and etc.?)
3. How many students eat in school per week?
4. How many students bring their own lunch per week?
5. How often do students eat the cafeteria food in a month?
6. Do you feel you have enough time to eat your lunch?

how many students really eat school lunch, would student eat school lunch?

may help cope with outliers, although it probably should not be used simply because there s an outlier.

C. Wright Mills s The Power Elite
Certain changes, which defy many of the fondest beliefs, have taken place in the American society.
People have retransformed from an independent thinking public into a mass society manipulated by
commanders of unequaled powers. Sociologist C. Wright Mills carefully documented this
phenomenon in his book entitled The Power Elite , opening the debate with a meaningful sentence:
The powers of ordinary men are circumscribed by the everyday worlds in which they live, yet even in
these rounds of job, family and neighborhood they often seem driven by forces they can neither
understand nor govern .
What does Power Elite mean?
The Power Elite is a critical study of the American power structure, in which Mills argued that a single
elite (the ruler) decides for the nation as a whole, leaving minor decisions for the middle level person
to handle and almost nothing for the common ones (the ruled). His theory suggests that power in the
U.S. is concentrated in the hand of a close knit group whose member s observations is conducted
around 1960.
This elite is not an aristocracy argued Mills. It is not a political ruling group based upon a nobility of
hereditary origin. There is no obvious compact basis in a small circle of great families whose members
can and do consistently ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

their existence. Propagated by the mass media, they have become part of the national prestige shadow

Plato s Symposium Essay
Plato s Symposium
What is the meaning of love? What does love feel like? How does love come about? No one can truly
explain it, yet somehow it s understood. In Plato s Symposium, a dinner party was held with the
discussion of love as the main topic. Everyone was required to make a speech, an ode to Love, the
spirit. The philosopher, Socrates gave his speech last, claiming that his speech was merely a repetition
of what a wise woman named Diotima once told him. The speech was a powerful one, but before the
night was over, a drunk Alcibiades entered. He was asked to make a eulogy for Love as well, but
instead, talked about the nature of Socrates. The nature of Love and the nature of Socrates turned out
to be extremely similar. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, he was a vagrant, with tough, dry skin (203d). Love took after his mother, Poverty, with the
trait of a constant need. However, he also had characteristics gained from his father, Plenty. Love
enjoyed chasing things of beauty and value (203d), and was filled with courage, impetuosity, and
energy (203d). He had a desire for knowledge, and was resourceful. Magic, herbs, and words were
skills at his disposal.
Socrates was not the most sensitive or attractive man. He showed up to the dinner party half way
through dinner, hardly caring about his late entrance. He was very blunt when asking questions as
well. Just before Agathon s speech, he asked Agathon a series of questions that almost trapped him
into looking extremely foolish(194b e). Socrates liked to chase things of beauty and value as well. He
was always found socializing with attractive people, and his greatest desire was knowledge. His mind
was bursting with ideas of virtue and wisdom, and it was this wisdom that showed him love.
Socrates had a mind that held the most important and attractive kind of wisdom by far... self discipline
(209a). His self discipline was seen when Agathon described Socrates attitude while under military
service. When food provisions were cut, everyone seemed unable to cope, yet he never complained
once. Then when there was plenty of food, he was able to make it last the longest. He could out drink
anyone that challenged him, but never seemed to ever be

I believe that the method I complied was sufficient in helping me do so. Although there could ve been
some additions to make the method more valid, for instance, I did not change the beakers filled with
the water at different temperatures for all test subjects; this could have affected the way the following
subject reacted in the experiment. Because I didn t change the water, the temperature at the start of the
lesson could ve changed towards the end, since 4 people used the same beakers. A way to improve this

  • 2. Comparing The Battle Of East Berlin And West Germany After... After World War II ended with the defeat of Nazty Germany and the victory of the Allied Powers, conflicts aroused for Germany s territory. Leaders from the allied powers United States, France, and United Kingdom; and the Soviet Union, the four powers divided Germany into four occupation zones for equality purposes. This division was approved at the Potsdam Conference in 1944 the United States, United Kingdom and Soviet Union had agreed on the zones. The Allied Powers occupied west Germany, while the Soviet Union ruled east Germany. Also, the capital of Germany, Berlin lied in the center of east Germany so they divided that into four zones.Later on, France and the United Kingdom gave their territories in Berlin to the United States, which also later on becomes known as East Berlin and West Berlin. ... After experiencing great losses from German invasions in the First and Second World War, Soviet leader Stalin preferred while Germany was defeated, it must be broken and divided so that it could not rise to power to threaten European peace. At the Tehran Conference between US President Roosevelt and the Soviet leader Stalin in 1943, the two countries agreed that after the war, Germany would be divided and occupied equally. At the final wartime conference, they met again at Yalta in 1945, which becomes known as the Yalta Conference, the two powers agreed to move the eastern border of Germany to the West, making Poland on the eastern section of that country occupied by the Soviet ... • 3. What Is The Difference Between Beowulf And The Wanderer Time is something that humanity has not been able to conquer. Specifically, John Niles says that time and an indifferent fate blot out even the most glorious of human achievements. He means that one person s accomplishments and material rewards will eventually be forgotten over time and thus mean nothing. This concept of time as an eraser can be seen in both Beowulf and The Wanderer where the past is diminished into a shadow of what it once was before eventually being forgotten. In Beowulf, there are many instances where the poet will convey how ephemeral a man s achievements in life can be after he is taken by death. Beowulf tells Hrothgar, For every one of us, living in this world/ means waiting for our end. Let whoever can/ win glory before death. When a warrior is gone,/ that will be his best and only bulwark (Beowulf Ln 1386 9). Beowulf says that glory won in life only matters to the warrior after he is dead, and no amount of riches or wealth can help him in the afterlife. The warrior fades from the cultural memory until he is totally forgotten. Hrothgar reminds Beowulf of this later in the poem, Do not give way to pride./ For a brief while your strength is in bloom/ but it fades quickly...and death will arrive,/ dear warrior, to sweep you away (Beowulf Ln 1760 8). Hrothgar warns Beowulf that his strength and prowess will not last long and when they fail, so too will his legend fade over time. The king says that Beowulf should focus on more spiritual rewards than material ones since the material gains will eventually wither or be no help to him in the afterlife. After death, time and fate will take away his legend and then his achievements will be meaningless. At the end of the poem, Beowulf speaks his last words to Wiglaf as he realizes what death has done to his clan. You are the last of us, the only one left/ of the Waegmundings. Fate swept us away,/ sent my whole brave high born clan/ to their final doom, (Beowulf Ln 2813 6). Fate sent death to Beowulf s clan and with his death, the clan will fall into obscurity over time and eventually be forgotten. The Beowulf poet shows in many places how easy it is for death, and through it time and fate, to wipe out any trace of man s achievements. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Loss Of Identity Paper Loss of identity Identity is the all encompassing view of who you are as an individual and contain many different parts such as your goals, values and beliefs as well as your standards for behavior and decision making (Schwartz, Luyckx, Vignoles, 2011). Many individuals suffering from ME feel a loss of identity as the illness progresses. Dickson, Knussen, and Flowers (2008) discusses how ME forces a change in an individuals identity, though the progression of the illness they are now experiencing life outside of what is normal for them and outside of their normal world. In one study participants spoke of ME controlling every aspect of their daily lives, there is a strong focus on what ME has taken away from them, leading individuals to question what is left in their lives (Dickson, Knussen, Flowers, 2008). ... This loss of identity is intensified by the level of stigma and delegitimisation experienced by ME sufferers (Arroll Howard, 2013; Dickson, Knussen, Flowers, 2008, Hughes, 2009; Wright 2015) When an individual looses all the things in life that create meaning for them they are left with an empty shell , individuals feel robbed of their own lives (Dickson, Knussen, Flowers, 2008; Pemberton Cox, 2014a). • 5. Jack The Ripper Identity In the dark early morning hours on the streets of London s East End between the months of August and November in 1888, a deranged and depraved person would roam the streets to murder at least five women participating in prostitution in the Whitechapel district. On November 9, 1888, fate would have Mary Jane Kelly brutally attacked at her place of residence and subsequently murdered and mutilated beyond imagination. The most likely suspect was the increasingly bloodthirsty and still anonymous killer dubbed Jack the Ripper. Nearly 130 years later, forensic science and criminology experts have failed to agree on the true identity of Jack the Ripper. Hopefully, through psychological, geographical and genetic profiling, a better perspective of who ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Zoo Observation Essay Last week I had the opportunity to visit the Los Angeles zoo on a beautiful, sunny Thursday (October 19th). Although I arrived off schedule which left a minimal amount of time to observe primates, I managed my time well. After being told that the larger animals get put away earlier, I figured my first stop would be at an ape enclosure. The ape I chose to see that day was the gorilla. The time that I began my observation was at approximately 3:05. At that time only one ape was quite visible and he was sitting at the front making eye contact with me making it seem as if he is HABITUATED. Next, post gorilla watching, I had the chance to take a gander at the ring railed lemurs at 3:40. These prosimians all had their own personalities which interested me deeply. Lastly, and certainly not least on my journey through the LA zoo, I had the chance of looking at the mandrills which were once classified as baboons. Considering that two baby mandrills were present and only a month old, this was my favorite exhibit to see because of their high energy and randomness of actions. Beginning with the most intelligent of the bunch, the (western lowland) gorillas I observed were quite inactive. This is certainly so because they are known to only be hunted by man leaving no competition outside of their own species. This fact makes it apparent why these kings of the jungle sit around so often. In the wild and even in zoos it may be difficult for a male to find mates because groups of gorillas are POLYGYNOUS. So usually one male is the father of all of the offspring. Being this way, male gorillas must display DOMINANCE over others and even stand their ground against an incoming male that may threaten the family. Going back to how they sit all day, gorillas are able to do this because they don t even have to move to replenish energy for the reason that they are grass and leaf eaters (vegetarians). Not having to move very much makes gorillas capable of having a low quality diet. Moving forward, ring tailed lemurs showed the greatest amount of ALTRUISM. They kindly groomed each other for an extensive amount of time, showing a great bond between one another. Also, their ability to move quickly and jump high showed off their MOTOR ... • 7. Theory X, Theory Y Theory X, Theory Y by Douglas McGregor is a motivation theory. Douglas McGregor is a social psychologist and applied two sets of assumptions to the organizational structure called Theory X and Theory Y. His theory is based on managerial views of human beings. In his book, The Human Side of Enterprise, he outlined a new role for managers. He stated that managers should assist subordinates in reaching their full potential, rather than commanding and controlling. Theory X is negative and Theory Y can be stated as the opposite, positive. Douglas concluded that managers shaped their behavior towards workers based on either the X or Y views. Theory X presumes that average employees dislike work, are lazy, dislike responsibility, and must be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Theory X and Y call for managers to examine their assumptions about human nature and see how these models lead to managerial practices. These assumptions will be reflected in management attitudes toward employees, the kind and amount of participation they allow, and the outcomes they expect. The strength of McGregor s theory is its significance. When McGregor formulated his theory, companies competed on their ability to mass produce goods. Today, however, paying attention to the human aspect is a requirement if any organization. Without a powerfully motivated, highly skilled, self reliant human resource, organizations do not stand a chance to survive, much less compete. McGregor s theory provides the solution to problems related to the human aspect of an organization. Some of the weaknesses in McGregor s Theory X and Theory Y theory are that there is only so much money that can be offered as motivation and only so much control that can be applied. People change and so do motivators. McGregor states that a satisfied need no longer motivates. This theory has no evidence to support Theory X or Theory Y. There s no validity in the assumption that managers who modify their actions or behaviors will lead to more motivated workers (textbook citation p177). It is part of the manager s job to exercise control and influence, and there are situations in which this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Midlife Crisis Research Paper Growing up I would hear my mother talking to her friends and saying how my dad was going through a midlife crisis. I would then hear the term again and again in life but I still had no clue what it really meant. Midlife crisis is a term referring to a critical phase in human development during the forties to early sixties, based on the character of change points, or periods of transition. The period is said to vary among individuals and between men and women. So I will break down what happens during this transition in a man and woman s life. I will also discuss what could cause this to happen in ones life. Male midlife crisis is defined by researchers as having a personal turmoil and coping challenges in people brought on by fears and anxieties about growing older. (Lang, S. 2001)This emotional transition will be experience by many men generally between the ages of 45 and 60, but men as young as 40 can also experience it. Men are susceptible to this condition especially if they have had a transition in their life or they have experienced something traumatic. Most men can deal with this process without making any major changes to their lifestyles ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 9. Utilitarianism Vs. Utilitarianism Theory In the history of philosophy Utilitarianism has been viewed as one of the best of the moral theories. It has become one the most powerful, influential, and most persuasive approach to normative ethics. The utilitarianism theory also has had a major impacts on approaches to economic, political, and social policy. The utilitarianism theory had originally had been created by Jeremy Bentham. His version of was that aggregate pleasure after deducting suffering of all involved in any action. However, this was later revised by John Stuart Mill He has revised the concept of utility and has brought forth the Greatest Happiness Principle . First off, utilitarianism is the philosophical view about how we should evaluate a things that are involve choices that people have to make. These things that are evaluated are actions, laws, policies, character traits, and moral codes. In general, whatever is being evaluated, we are the ones that have to choose the one that will produce the best overall results. Utilitarianism is also a form of consequentialism this is because utilitarianism is based on the consequences or results of actions that are the only standard of right and wrong. Utilitarian s say that we should choose the option that has maximizes utility, i.e. that action or policy that produces the largest amount of good. Although it may be similar to Utilitarianism is distinctly different from other forms of consequentialism such as egoism as it considers all interests equally. On ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Gender role is described as the perception the society has on how males and females should carry themselves in terms of appearance and behaviors. Some examples of perceptions the society has on women in the home are, they need to know how to cook, take care of the children, and manage the house. I applied this sociological concept because I see the perception evident in my log. During my husband absence, I manage the house by making sure my daughter made it to school, the house stayed clean and provided my children meals. When my husband is home, and I am at work, he is usually taking on my role until I get back. When I do get back home from work, my husband basically expects me to perform the gender role of a woman in the house. Sociologists Schieman and Taylor (2001) studies stated women s role in the society are traditionally revolved around tasked that are household related. They also stated that in the society, men and women are expected to have different responsibilities within the home. Women s central role is often linked to family, even while involved in the workforce, men s core role often tends to be associated with paid employment (Schieman Taylor, 2001, p. 473). People have retransformed from an independent thinking public into a mass society manipulated by commanders of unequaled powers. Sociologist C. The Power Elite is a critical study of the American power structure, in which Mills argued that a single elite (the ruler) decides for the nation as a whole, leaving minor decisions for the middle level person to handle and almost nothing for the common ones (the ruled). His theory suggests that power in the U.S. is concentrated in the hand of a close knit group whose member s observations is conducted around 1960. This elite is not an aristocracy argued Mills.
