Platelet Confusion
Platelet transfusion
There is no fixed platelet count threshold in ICU patients that signals platelet transfusion (93), but
because of hemorrhage fear there is a widespread notion that the platelet count should be
maintained over 100X109/L in massive bleeding or when bleeding occurs at dangerous sites such
as in intracranial hemorrhage (94).
In addition to platelet count, the risk of hemorrhage is also dependent on the hematocrit and the
bleeding time (95). So, red blood cell transfusion should also be considered as a part of a
supportive therapy, if needed (17).
Despite these recommendations, it should be born in mind that platelet transfusion is not a risk free
procedure and may cause several potentially fatal complications such as contamination,

Analysis Of A Lot Can Be Learned About Rhetoric, And The...
A lot can be learned about rhetoric by looking at these two articles: 5 Charts That Show Sexism
Is Still Alive and Well in Gaming and The Integrity of Women and Gender Studies . One portrays
the gaming community as sexist and underrepresenting women (Kleeman) while the other
condemns modern feminism for treating women as victims and vilifying men (Frohlich). The
first uses many logical arguments that are used to bring emotion to the reader, and make them
feel like certain things are ethically wrong (Kleeman). The second uses a slightly different
technique, since it is explicitly an opinion piece (Frohlich). It leads the author to be trusted by
the reader, and then presents the author s opinions that are backed by logical arguments
(Frohlich). It also causes the reader to experience emotional and ethical feelings (Frohlich). 5

Tea Drinking In The 1800s
Tea was declared the National Drink of England in 1784. The eighteenth century saw the
transformation of tea as an everyday necessity for the poor and working class of the British society.
To meet the domestic demand at home, the British East India Company imported great volumes of
tea from China. The teaimport increased from an estimated 64 tons in 1711 to 6800 tons in 1791.
Even heavy import tax could not deter an increasingly expanding domestic market for the Chinese
tea. As tea drinking had become obsession with the British society, consumption of tea replaced
home brewed beer, gin, milk and traditional infusions of indigenous plants. This great
transformation in the consumption pattern of British society led to the commodification of

Pre Assessment Quantitative And Qualitative Data Essay
Combined approach. Once the data from both the quantitative component and qualitative
component had been summarized, the two sets of results were compared. The pre assessment
quantitative and qualitative data sets were reviewed to look for convergence. The two post
assessment data sets were similarly reviewed. The changes from pre to post assessment were
reviewed together to look for similarities, differences, anomalies, and possible future areas of study.
Additionally, the data as a whole was considered to determine what descriptive narrative it implied.
Differences. The original research design underwent some changes to adapt to the changing
situation with the organization.
Participant demographics. The class was designed based on having a larger percentage of internally
promoted employees in class. While the majority of new managers in class were internal
promotions, they were not the majority of the overall class population, due to a couple unexpected
non manager participants. This likely skewed the results, due to both the data gathered from the
unexpected participants and to the change in experience the target participants had, having non
target population members in attendance.
Additionally, a larger participant group was anticipated overall. Due to scheduling conflicts
(specifically summer vacations), and to an unexpected slowdown in promotions and hires, two
scheduled classes were cancelled and the overall participant number dropped to less than half of

Social Media in Africa
Three years ago I spent five weeks in Central Africa Republic. Traveling around the countryside
and visiting with nationals was rewarding in many ways. If you asked me then, I would have never
foreseen what direction the country was headed. I could never have imagined the once beautiful
capital of Bangui would turn into war torn rubbish, filled with refugees fleeing from harm.
Central Africa Republic is in the middle of a war brought on by its own people. Muslims and
Christian s battle back and forth aggressively killing one another and inputting fear into many.
Humanitarians have been risking their lives attempting to stop the chaos and bring the country
back to order. Organizations like the United Nations and UNICEF are doing their part to provide
for the refugees, while individuals like Peter Bouckaert and Samantha Power are meeting with
rebel leaders encouraging peace. Social media, in particular Twitter, has been a major platform for
these organizations and individuals to share with the world the experiences they are encountering
daily. Using Twitter hashtags like #CAR and #CARcrisis allows for stories to be told and
information to be released throughout the world. Individuals worldwide are becoming aware of the
circumstances happening overseas by simply opening their Twitter account, and not just from
mainstream news sources.
The crisis in Central Africa Republic is only one example of social media s impact on the
humanitarian sector. This is becoming a larger

Glycolytic Pathway
Energy needed to function comes from the conversion of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) to
adenosine diphosphate (ADP). To keep a continuous supply of ATP, ATP is resynthesized using one
of the three energy pathways. The three energy pathways are the phosphagen, anaerobic and aerobic
systems.
The phosphagen system known as the ATP CP pathway, uses creatine phosphate (CP) to
resynthesize ATP. CP re bonds ADP to produce ATP after it is broken down. The ATP CP pathway
is the quickest way to resynthesize ATP and is the predominant energy system used for short term
high intensity activities. Two exercises that utilize the ATP CP pathway are weightlifting and
sprinting.
The anaerobic system known as the glycolytic pathway, uses glucose to produce ATP. Glucose is
broken down into pyruvate through glycolysis to produce ATP. The amount of energy produced is
very little, but you get the energy quickly. The glycolytic pathway is the second fastest way to
resynthesize ATP and is the predominant energy system used for large bursts activities. Two
exercises that utilize the glycolytic pathway are powerlifting such as bench press and deadlift.
The aerobic system known as the oxidative pathway, uses oxygen to produce ATP and is the most
complex of the three energy systems. The oxidative pathway uses blood glucose, glycogen ... Show

AP Vocabulary Word Analysis
Leonardo Da Vinci once said, simplicity is the ultimate sophistication. Many times when we
write, we tend to over use fancy words and try too hard to make our writing sound smart. This
extra fluff and weirdly placed buzz words may not quite make sense in the context, but of course,
they re AP vocab words I have to use them and it is a very loose synonym so it works right?
Sometimes, the best, and most smart sounding way to get your point across is to write it out
straight forward and not discombobulate your main idea with extra and unnecessary phrases and
words. Less is more. I am definitely guilty of trying too hard to add in extra vocabulary to increase
the professional and insightful tone of my papers. Almost always, when going

Money In The Great Gatsby Analysis
Dirty Money Offering a glimpse at the world in the 1920s, F. Scott Fitzgerald weaves the skewed
mindsets of money oriented Americans in all of the distinct social groups into his novel The Great
Gatsby. Despite the characters beliefs, money is actually destructive; it turns them into the worst
versions of themselves. As the newcomer Nick Carraway delves into the world of the East and West
Eggers, Fitzgerald details the detrimental repercussions of depending on money. Born into their
wealth, the Buchanans fashion the concept that old money abuses their power and hides in the
safety of their wealth. They comfortably fall back into their money to excuse their actions flaunting
when they can and fleeing when they want to. While visiting his mistress Myrtle, Tom gets angry
and [breaks] her nose with his open hand (Fitzgerald 37). He believes that his wealth justifies this
sort of conduct; women like Myrtle are disposable and replaceable, therefore, he can abuse them.
Tainted with immorality and brutality, he objectifies women, buying, using, and discarding them as
he pleases. His materialistic view of the world generates his superior attitude that fuels his violent
behaviors. Following Myrtle s death, the Buchanans escape from the scene, epitomizing Nick s idea
that they [smash] up things and creatures and then [retreat] back into their money (Fitzgerald 180).
This couple wreaks havoc, but they find a way to slip out unpunished and unaffected. After creating

King Of Rong Analysis
The films King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters and Wreck it Ralph utilizes methods of realist and
formalist aesthetics in their respective films. Realist aesthetics aspire to achieve transparency and
display the content practically, while formalist aesthetics choose to communicate the content
expressively to better serve the story. The realist aesthetics in King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters
and the formalist aesthetics in Wreck it Ralph are apparent in the films mise en scene,
cinematography, sound, and performances. Realist aesthetics in King of Kong: A Fistful of
Quarters are applied in the film to emphasize the fact that a true chain of events is being depicted;
realist aesthetics in the film accentuate the true nature of the story in order to emphasize the

Sexual Reproduction And Mating Systems Essay
Hi all, I just wanted to add information to what has been discussed. In topic 11, we learnt about
sexuality (Bingham, Paul M., and Souza J. 2009). A standout amongst the most intriguing parts of
human life is the manner by which we pick our mates. Animals likewise pick their mates, in some
cases with a lot of consideration. Mating systems are critical to comprehend in light of the fact that
they mirror the consequence of common choice on mate decision, and eventually on systems for
augmenting individual reproductive success. A mating system depicts how guys and females pair
while picking a mate. Males and females vary extraordinarily in the speculation every makes to
reproduce, and may along these lines approach mating with contrasting procedures. At the point
when picking mates, animals develop species regular systems for amplifying their reproductive
success this outcomes in significant diversity qualities among animal species in their mating
patterns. In particular, sexual reproductionfrequently includes evolutionary differentiation of males
and females. Females commonly create fundamentally less gametes (eggs) than males and invest
heavily in every one. Then again, males produce numerous gametes (sperm) and put little into every
one. These solid contrasts in gameteinvestment between the genders prompts reproductive
procedures between the genders that, now and again, struggle. Females may spend more care than
males selecting a mate because of the high cost of their

Who Killed Jon Benet Ramsey Essay
WHO KILLED JON BENET RAMSEY? The brutal murder of 6 year old JonBenet Ramsey on
Christmas night in 1996 shocked America to its core. Just as the Lindbergh baby kidnapping and
murder seven decades earlier had seared the nation s consciousness, this murder В– of a beautiful
and talented child in a wealthy Boulder, Colorado home renewed every parent s worst
nightmare. It has been nearly three years since this violent crime occurred and no one has been
brought to justice. At 6:48 p.m., Dec. 23, 1996, a 911 call was placed from the Ramsey home to
the Boulder Police Department. The call was terminated before a police dispatcher could speak to
the caller. Six minutes later the police called the Ramsey home, but got a voice mail... Show more

forthcoming quickly became a national obsession, featured day after day on network news,
television tabloid programs, talk radio, newspapers and magazines. Her image flitted across
television screens innumerable times, often showing her in a glittering cowgirl outfit, singing I
want to be a cowboy sweetheart, or dancing across the stage in a Las Vegas showgirl outfit,
complete with heavy makeup. Her unusual first name became so well known that like Cher and
Madonna she no longer had need of a last name. The public s shock at the murder soon began to

steady stream of leaks from the Boulder County prosecutor s office about the inept police
investigation being conducted. For one thing it became known that the police had badly botched
the initial investigation by failing to seal off the crime scene. For another it appeared the police

Insanity Research Paper
Insanity is a legal term pertaining to a defendants ability to determine right from wrong. Insanity
was once a medical term used by doctors. It is now defined as being in a state so severe that a
person cannot distinguish fake from reality, or is subject to uncontrollable behavior. Insanity is
something defendants use in court that could determine whether they are guilty or innocent. Insanity
can serve as defense against criminal acts without requiring an intent. Even if a defendant calls for
an insanity plea he still has to be evaluated by a doctor. Doctors no longer use the word insanity or

Descriptive Essay About Taco Madre
Taco Madre is a new Mexican restaurant that opened in Niles, IL. There were several reasons why
this restaurant caught my eye. The interior was designed wonderfully but the location didn t seem
like a good fit, the food was tasty, the people who went were from all age groups, and the music
was entertaining. This restaurant had mostly pros with one con, but, overall, this is a restaurant that
everyone should try because it has a taste of Mexico with a modern style.
The first time I went to Taco Madre, I noticed the location right away. This restaurant recently
opened in my area, so my friends and I decided to check it out and get a bite to eat. I noticed it
was located next to Papa Johns and a Wings restaurant. Because, there are other restaurants
surrounding the premises, it will create competition. My first impression was to dock some points
because of where it was located, but the interior area made up for it.
As I stepped inside the restaurant, the first thing that caught my eye was the walls because it
had the same design as the menu. It struck out because the patterns of the flowers that were
imprinted on the walls showed a lot of colors, which helped brighten the room and add a sense of
dimension/comfort. Not only were the colors of the walls vibrant, but so was the salsa bar
because it was presented with a wide range of spices to choose from. Moreover, Taco Madre had
an excellent variety of food choices. Some of the food they served were tacos, burritos, and
tortas. The menu was not overbearing like the Cheesecake Factory, but it was not limited like
another restaurant. The aroma of the Mexican food would make anyone salivate, the food has
always tasted fresh; plus, they put extra cilantro with a lime on the side. My friends and I
combined the individual tables to make a gigantic seating arrangement suitable for the six of us. I
ordered a Mahi mahi, which is fried fish; there is an option of flour or corn tortilla, and for dessert I
ordered flan. The flan had vanilla ice cream, cherries, and whipped cream added to the top. The
Mahi mahi was cooked to perfection, and the flan consisted of sugary ingredients, and the sweet
taste filled my mouth. Another factor that struck out to me was

Because the novel presents a portrayal of lesbianism that is far removed from current gay culture, it
is not truly contemporary to the audience for which it was intended. To include it in such a
curriculum would be an insult to the lesbian community of today.
When first introduced, Rubyfruit Jungle was a tremendous commercial success. Hailed by
many as the ultimate lesbian novel of its time, it took a bold and bawdy look at the lesbian
experience in America. The storyline moved quickly, tracing the experiences of Molly Bolt, a
young southern girl who had been adopted by a severe, conservative mother and her more liberal
husband. Brown s novel set a tone that was direct and controversial, and employed language that
had never before been used in connection with the lesbian experience (Pela 2). The novel is
uniquely American, as it traces Molly s young life from her earliest years in York, Pennsylvania,
through a move to a small southern town in Georgia, and finally to the city of New York, where
Molly feels as though she belongs. In each setting, Brown forcefully exhibits her craft by capturing
not just the dialogue, but the mannerisms, biases, and cultural peculiarities of each locale. Molly s
reactions to each move in her life reveal much, not just about her character and motivations, but
about life in the latter half of the twentieth century. America began a shift toward a period of
inclusion and acceptance of minorities and other subcultures in the 1960 s

Supply and Demand Economic Critique
The United States economy is determined by a number of factors, such as; gross domestic product
(GDP), unemployment rates, consumer income, and interest rates. Everything the U.S. produces is
measured by the GDP. When the GDP turns negative, the economy can enter a recession. If this
negative GDP continues for years the country is considered in a depression. Supply and demand are
the forces drive the U.S. economy. Supply includes employment and natural resources such as oil.

The Consumer Confidence Index is watched by stock market analysts and investors to get an idea
of whether consumer spending will continue to drive the economy.
The U.S. is also facing income inequality, one quarter of Americans make less than $10 per hour,
and this is income below poverty level. Many lower wage workers receive no health insurance,
pension plans, no sick or vacation days. Recent government tax policies have helped rich investors
more than the low wage earners. Technology and outsourcing has increased inequality. Emerging
markets of other countries are seeing increases in their income as they become more competitive in
the global marketplace. Overseas work forces are becoming more skilled and sophisticated in
managing their economy; as a result, wealth is shifting to those countries.
Interest rates control the flow of money in the economy. High interest rates curb inflation, but also
slow down the economy. Lower interest rates stimulate the economy, but could lead to inflation.
Americans must know whether rates are increasing or decreasing, and what other economic
indicators are saying. The target interest rate, or short term interest rate is controlled by the
Federal Reserve. Long term interest rates are market driven. The global average interest rate for
long term debt is the result of global demand for credit compared to global supply of saving.

Summary Of The LA Riots
As a result of a detestable court decision and the visceral televised imagery of the beaten Rodney
King, police brutality became recognized as a ceaseless injustice oppressing black communities.
These events managed to spur a conversation most relevant today but one that many continue to
disregard. The LA Riots of 1992 still stands as one of if not the most critical event that tapped into
the way we view systematic racism by sparking deep rooted dialogue about the intermingling of race
, economics and injustice in America for African Americans. When looking back at the riots 25
years later, society has often received the needless white perspective and the necessary African
Americanvoice. However, many forget how many Korean Americans were affected by these events.
At the time, black and Korean communities were at odds with one another without understanding
each other s shared struggles as a result of the gradual segregation between wealthy white
communities and impoverished minority enclaves. With the winner of the 2017 Sundance audience
NEXT Award Gook, director, writer and actor Justin Chon remembers the 1992 LA Riots with the
rare Korean Americanperspective, one that reveals itself as a poignant picture of race and friendship.

old African American girl named Kamila dancing in front of a storefront consumed in flames. It is

West Memphis Three Men Research Paper
Murder begins where self defense ends. This quote from Georg Buchner can be used to describe
the tragic deaths of three little boys who were rendered defense less against their attackers. On
May 5, 1993 in West Memphis, Arkansas, three young second grade boys, by the names of
Christopher Byers, Steven Branch, and Michael Moore, were brutally murdered after being beaten
and hogtied by their own shoelaces. A year later, Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin, and Jessie
Misskelley were convicted and sent to prison for this heinous crime. Even though the three men
were convicted for the crime, there is still great controversy as to who actually killed the three boys.
Throughout all this controversy, evidence, testimony, confessions, and more point towards the three
men known as the West Memphis Three , to be the real killers.
In the case of the three murdered eight year olds, West Memphis police department s investigative
work led to a numbered list of suspects. Some of the suspects were quickly ruled out while others
took a little more investigative work. In the end, the list of suspects was shortened until all who

Sacrifice And Success

in life, one must be prepared to give sacrifices such as time, in order for them to reach a

Sacrifice is necessary for people to succeed because if people are not willing to sacrifice anything

The common, or magic , number is 10,000 hours of practice in order for one to become master or
professional at what they are trying to accomplish. Most professional athletes such as hockey
players have been playing the sport for just about as long as they could walk. For example, most
of the skaters on the 18u Syracuse Stars AAA hockey team started playing the game at ages 3,4,
or 5. Every player on that team is fundamentally sound when it comes to the game. They have
been around it for so long that hockey became a way of life, these are the players, that dedicate
the most time in order to succeed. They give the small amount of practice time that they have
everyday, 100% every time they touch the ice. The hockey players across the world that
dedicate the most time to their sport, will be the ones who end up having the best chance at
becoming a professional. The same goes for any profession in which one would like to excel in.
The hockey coach for the Syracuse Stars 18u AAA team always says You get out of it, what you

Whether or not everyone should be required to go to college is an issue that is constantly being
discussed within our society. Some people believe that everyone should be required to go to
college while other people believe that everyone should not be required to go to college. Therefore,
in this paper, I will address the issue of whether or not everyone should be required to go to college.
First, I will explain an argument that shows that everyone should be required to go to college is
wrong. Second, I will present my own argument, showing why that argument is bad. Third, I will
conclude with some further thoughts about whether or not everyone should be required to go to
college. As a result, in this paper, I will argue that not everyone should be required to go to
college. As previously stated, whether or not everyone should be required to go... Show more

For example, the first premise, which is that college graduates have more and better employment
opportunities, is false. The reason why the first premise is false is that not all college graduates
have more and better employment opportunities. Not all college graduates have more and better
employment opportunities because there are too many workers and not enough jobs. What this
means is that when college graduates are ready to work, they will not have many employment
opportunities due to the limited amount of jobs. For example, there are too many students who
are studying law and once they graduate from college, they will have a difficult amount of time
finding a legal job due to a decrease in demand of lawyers. As a result, law students could face
unemployment. However, if a college student wants to have more and better employment
opportunities, then he or she will need to go to college and find a career, which has a high

campaign, Obama has also agreed to temporarily extend the extender provision tax. The extender
provisions are credits and tax breaks given to corporations that primarily focus on research and
development. Obama has suggested making the credit permanent and increasing the credit rate

Probation For Juveniles
Probation was established for juveniles in the United States in the early 1800 s as a way to give
them the opportunity to be rehabilitated rather than institutionalized. It was opined that if the
practice of incarcerating juveniles with adults, which was the practice of the time, were continued
they would not be given the chance to become productive citizens, but rather given the tools to
become seasoned criminals. The practice of probation for juveniles began in England during the
middle ages. The English way of thinking was that since the King was considered the father to all
his subjects; and must look out for their best interest, he should provide for those who were unable
to take care of themselves, hence the children. This included

Essay on Underage Drinkers Face Repercussion
Today there seems to be an increasing number of underage drinkers. Teens seem to be drinking
their way through high school and college because it s the trend of the century. They go out to
party and there is no party, if there is no alcohol. They begin to believe there is no fun in partying
without the use of alcohol. According to, the 2009 Youth Risk Behavior Survey, 40% of high

Psychology Of The Piece Of Literature
Psychoanalysis is a type of criticism focused on the psychology of the piece of literature.
Through the analysis of the psychology behind a work, a conclusion can be made about it s
meaning. Psychoanalysis plays a huge role in the play Hamlet. In Hamlet, William Shakespeare
utilizes id, ego, superego, the oedipal complex, and depression to show how Old King Hamlets
murder and Gertrude s marriage to Claudius causes Hamlet to eventually go mad.
Sigmund Freud coined the term Oedipal Complex to describe a phenomenon he observed where
the child has sexual feelings of desire for the parent of the opposite gender and has feelings of
hostility and jealously towards the parent of the same sex. The child feels as if they are in a
competition with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because of this fear, the boy develops castration anxiety. Since the father is receiving the attention
of the mother, the boy then sets out to become like the father. He imitates and partakes in dad type
behaviors. This act is referred to as identification and how the boy gets over the Oedipal Complex.
This phenomenon is shown through the play Hamlet. Hamlet is extremely jealous of the attention
that his mother, Gertrude, has shown to both his father, Old King Hamlet, and his uncle and new
step father, Claudius. Hamlet says,
Must I remember? Why, she would hang on him
As if increase of appetite had grown
By what it fed on, and yet, within a month
Let me not think on t. Frailty, thy name is woman!
A little month, or ere those shoes were old
With which she followed my poor father s body,
Like Niobe, all tears. Why she, even she
O God, a beast that wants discourse of reason
Would have mourned longer married with my uncle (Act I, scene ii, lines 143 153)
What Hamlet is saying in modern English, is that he does not want to remember that. His mother
would hang on to him (Old King Hamlet) and the more she was with him, the more she wanted of
him. But even though she could not get enough of Old King Hamlet when he was alive, she barely
even mourned. She was almost immediately married to Claudius. This quote from Hamlet is

Existentialism And The Beliefs Of The Movement
Losing all hope was freedom. One of the most powerful quotes in Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk
that is a good summary of existentialism and the beliefs of the movement. Existentialism was a
turning point for society and literature that advocated the expansion of the minds of authors and
their readers so we could improve our thinking to be more enlightened and free. The movement
sparked much alternative thinking to allow our society to grow into what it is today and without it
people would most likely be more close minded and less free. Existentialismwas a very influential
movement with many impactful authors and will forever be remembered in history because of it s
unique ideas about the existence of the individual person as a free and responsible agent
determining their own development through acts of the will and how it shifted a culture.
Existentialism is a philosophical idea within ethics that was developed in the 19th century and
progressed heavily into the 20th century. Some basic foundational ideas of existentialism are found
in early Buddhist and Christian writings, which may have been the starting point for the movement.
Also, like existentialism s previous philosophical ideas that came before it, it rebels against
traditional Western thought that believes rationality and consciousness are the key points to
understanding the human condition. According to Jean Paul Sartre, a famous existentialist,
existence precedes and rules essence (Andrea 665). A clearer way

Anemia Research Paper
Anemia
What is anemia?
Anemia is a medical condition characterized by low red blood cell count or mass (hemoglobin).
This can be caused by blood loss, decreased production of red blood cells, or increased red cell
destruction. Some common forms of anemia include iron deficiency, vitamin B12 deficiency,
thyroid disease, and liver disease. Patients with certain blood or bone marrow cancers may also
develop anemia. Individuals with anemia often develop symptoms of when their hemoglobin is
very low or there is a rapid drop in hemoglobin.
Symptoms typically fatigue, low energy, exertional shortness of breath, and pale skin. Severe
anemia due to hemorrhage may lead to death, particularly in elderly individuals with chronic heart
or lung disease. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The diagnosis of anemia is suggested based on symptoms and physical examination, but is typically
confirmed with a CBC (complete blood cell count). Your doctor will also usually order a CMP
(comprehensive metabolic panel), thyroid function (TSH, free T4), vitamin B12, iron studies
(ferritin, iron saturation, total iron binding capacity), and coagulation studies (PT/INR, PTT).
Other tests may include a urinalysis, heme occult stool study, reticulocyte count, haptoglobin level,
SPEP and UPEP (serum and urine protein electrophoresis), and peripheral blood smear
If you are over age 50 and have evidence of iron deficiency anemia, your doctor will likely refer
you to a gastroenterologist to undergo an upper endoscopy and colonoscopy. These tests are done in
order to rule out gastrointestinal cancer.
If you are having chest pain or difficulty breathing, you doctor may obtain a chest x ray, EKG
(electrocardiogram), and ultrasound of the heart (echocardiogram).
How is anemia treated?
The treatment of anemia is based on its severity. Severe anemia due to blood loss often requires
blood transfusion with packed red blood cells. Less urgent forms of anemia may be treated with a
variety of therapies depending on their

Asbestos Industry Research Paper
For many years the asbestos industry manufacturers, suppliers, product developers, insurance
companies, etc claimed that they had no knowledge that asbestos could endanger the health and
well being of asbestos workers. Rather than protecting their employees and seeing a lower
bottom line these firms instead chose to hide the facts and deny any allegations that asbestos
was causing their employees to get sick and die. However, the dangers related to the inhalation
of asbestos fibers had been known for close to two thousand years. In ancient Rome, Pilny the
Elder observed that slaves who were forced to work in the quarries exhibited a high degree of
lung sickness. In 1918 a report published by the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics noted that
people who worked in the asbestos industry were dying at an unusually young age. By the mid

Selfish Motivations In Primeval Forest
In class, how we defined what it meant to be a missionary was an individual responding to a
need, a call to serve. From time to time, the area in which the missionary is called to serve is a
foreign land, where they would have to start anew and sacrifice some of their own privilege
interests. In general, when people think about missionaries, or what it means to be a missionary,
they picture a kind person, sympathetic to those around them. Someone who wants to work to
better the conditions of livelihood to those they will be serving. Missionaries are to be moral
people, or organizations, looking to serve for the better good. However, through the media
discussed in class, the main points of comparisons shed a new light on the term of becoming a
missionary: the sincere, wholesome imagery of missionaries soon start to fade. Instead,
Primeval Forest and Mosquito Coast show the darker side of doing missions: selfishness and
self satisfaction. In all three works seen or discussed in/for class, the main protagonists had
selfish motivations to travel abroad. In Primeval Forest, there seems to be a sense of ennui of the
doctor s life within the first page of the book. Having grown accustomed to the daily routine and
what he saw every day, he decided to embark on a new journey for a life in Africa. Similarly, in
Tanzanian Doctor, the protagonist ended up in Tanzania by coincidence. Wanting more than the
typical hospital life, he quit his job in search for something new. By coincidence,

Experiment #2 Kinetics of the Decomposition of Hydrogen Peroxide
Introduction: Chemical reactions are dependent upon two factors: temperature and concentrations
of substance. We can monitor the rate at which a chemical decomposes or the rate at which a
chemical substance appears. In this experiment we will be measuring the rate of decomposition of
hydrogen dioxide with the following reaction: 2 H202 (aq) 4 2 H20 (l) + 02 (g)
We can trap the oxygengas created into a container thus showing the extent of the reaction and this
will show the rate in which oxygen is created and how the rate will change when we use different
initial concentrations. We do use a catalyst in this reaction to ... Show more content on

it seemed that the longer I had to hold it level the harder it became to be as accurate. I would find

Another thing that could have affected our results was not putting the stopper on the Erlenmeyer

Managing The Development Of Large Software Systems
Managing the development of large software systems

This book is published by Dr. Winston W.Royce, he will be describing his own personal views
about managing large software development. He has had many different varieties of success in each
of his assignments such as arriving the project on time, within the costs and in the correct

When making a computer program there are two essential steps that are required to make a
successful program, these two main steps are the Analysis this is where you will have to analyse
the requirements of the software, the second step is the Coding. This figure is all that is required

This means that a simple patch to the code will not fix these problems. The changes are likely to
be extremely disruptive that the system requirements that the program was built on will be
violated. This will mean the requirements will have to be modified and a major redesign will have
to happen.
The preliminary program design phase is inserted in between the software requirements phase and
the analysis phase. By using this technique the designer will assure that the software will not fail
because of timing, storage and data flux reasons. There are 3 steps that you will have to do to
implement this procedure. 1, Begin the design process with program designers. 2, Design define
and allocate the data processing modes. 3, Write an overview document this means that everyone
must at least have a slight understanding of the system and there should be one person with deep
understanding of the system.
The seventh figure shows that if the program is being developed for the first time, arrange matters
so that when the final build of the program is delivered to the customer it is actually the second
version as the first one is a simulation of it.
Royce view on documentation is that the more documentation the better. He says that when he is
called upon to review a documentation the first step that he does is investigate the state of the
documentation, if the documentation is in serious default he recommends that the project
management is replaced. He says that

about human life or for a political or historical situation. The historical fiction novel, The Watsons
Go To Birmingham 1963, by Christopher Paul Curtis is about a family who is exposed to racism
after traveling from Michigan to Alabama for the first time. It shows a political and societal mess
that molds them into new personalities, both dejected and aware of the racial discrimination in

Statistics Is The Most Popular Score Essay
Introduction
Statistics is not only part of a required to create on coursework in schools. Everywhere person
looks, statistics is around. Too many people think statistics is difficult though, but it is all around
them in real life. Three main descriptive statistics which make data easier to interpret, measure
central tendency. They are the mean, measured, and median. Each of these are averages, which
everyone is exposed to in everyday life (Stapel, n.d.). All three have specific uses in real life.
The Mode
The first measure, the mode, is the most popular score. To find the mode, one tallies the
frequency of each number or value. The mode becomes the group that occurs the most frequently
(Averages, n.d.). A set of numbers may have more than one mode when an equal number of
occurrences takes place at more than one value. Of course, a mode may not occur in a set of
numbers if the numbers appear with equal frequency (Henry, 2011). Next, a few examples of the
mode are explained.
First, California Homeschool Network s election occurs annually. An election is a great example
explaining the method. The election consists of trustees that members vote for. When the election
closes, the results displaying the trustee who receives the most votes is the winner. This winner
received the largest number of tallies during the election count.
Another example of the mode is finding the average number of students in various programs at
National University determining which are the most

Dan Buettner s Chapter On Singapore
Dan Buettner s chapter on Singapore was very interesting, especially when comparing it to our
American way of life. At first glance the idea of living in a country with very strict laws, such as
public canings for what we would call a minor offense, was mind blowing to me. How could this
be one of the happiest places in the world? Upon further study my mind was changed to some
degree, in fact I could see myself visiting there some day, but only have studing on the most current
laws. I think the United Stateswould be better off if we as a nation thought more about how our
individual actions affected those around us. If you were to visit Singapore, it is highly advised
that you first take time and review both their customs and strict laws. This country is not like any
other country you have been to before. From the time you arrive at Changi International Airport,
this difference is very apparent. You will see go through customs and or immigration, normal and
typical when arriving to a new country, but that is where the similarities end. You will see
numerous signs warning you of the public laws, that you are expected to obey without question.
No photography, smoking, or gum chewing is allowed (Buettner, 2011, p. 75). Think for a minute
how odd this might be. You have just arrived as a visitor and you cannot chew gum and you are
not allowed to take photographs!? After some further research I have found that this law of gum
chewing has been modified to some degree.

Analyzing Climate Change
Climate change has become one of the most important issues on the global political agenda. This is
largely due to the fact that the developments that influence climate change also impact the way in
which life is conducted at local, regional, national, and global level.
The present paper aims to analyze climate change from a general perspective with due consideration
for aspects that eventually define climate change as an essential challenge as well as for humanity
in its entirety and for the individual as a single element of society.
The first part of the research provides background information on what climate change is, what are
its most important constituent elements, and what are its implications. Climate change represents
in essence a global challenge that can only be tackled at the global level. This is why it is
important to consider the views and perspectives of global organizations such as the United
Nations, through the United Nations Environment Program among other organisms under the
coordination of the United Nations. Climate change has been at the center of vivid debates in
recent decades particularly because it affects all strata of human life, from food supplies to
education, health, and sustainable development. Its complex impact on human life makes climate
change an all the more important aspect to be taken into account by policy makers, world leaders,
and decision takers around the world.
The second part of the research focuses on the initiatives

The Importance Of Texas Government Figures
Government figures play a very important role in every individual s life. They are the ones that
make the laws that citizens may or may not agree with. The governor of Texas is the figure that
is the one who leads this state on a regular basis during his term as governor. Even if he may not
play a role in a new law that was passed, just like the president, he will get blamed by those
individuals who do not agree and believed that he is making their lives worse. Rick Perry and
Greg Abbott are the two Texas Governors that will be focused on based on their view point/ belief
on the topics of educationand gun control and what they believe personally is the best for the
future of Texas as a whole. Education is a huge part of life that people

An Evaluation Of An Effective Manager Is Responsible For...
A manager is responsible for the work of their people, inasmuch as a consistently
underperforming employee relies on the direction and feedback of an effective manager. Like it
or not, the system of a performance cycle was put into place to force a manager to give feedback
to their employees. Every year, managers have an opportunity to assess and then reassess their
employee s performance, and every year in kind, they fail to reach the mark. There are two things
a manager does, or fails to do, that contribute to the success and failure of a performance cycle: fail
to give real timefeedback and midcourse correction when necessary and give honest feedback
during the appraisal. By utilizing the steps of the Critical Incident Method they can attempt to add
value back into the system. Business Dictionary online defines the critical incident method as,
Situation analysis technique in which actions or behavior of an employee (during, for example, a
customer service event) is recorded and examined to ascertain the actual requirements of a
successful operation (BusinessDictionary.com). By consistently doing these two things, recording
and examining behavior, value can be added back into the performance cycle.
Performance cycles, as the name implies, are annual reporting periods that have a beginning the
plan, a middle the midterm, and an end the appraisal. Every manager is aware of the cycle, knows
what is expected of them and yet they find themselves challenged when

Why The Allies Won The Battle Of Normandy
Hitler and the Allies realized that a battle on the western coast of Europe would decide the outcome
of the war. The Allies utilized this knowledge and began immediately planning Operation Overlord.
Little did they know, the battle of Normandy would be the most significant Allied offensive battle
on the Western front(Walker). In total, the operation would take the combined effort of 176,475
men, 3,000 guns, 1,500 tanks, and 15,000 other assorted vehicles (Walker). People recognize the
glorious outcome of that fateful day, June 6,1944, but they don t know that it took months of
strategizing, training, and weather forecasts until Operation Overlordbecame a legend amongst
international armies. The planning of Operation Overlord began in 1943.... Show more content on

At first Operation Overlord was suppose to occur in May (Stagg 12),yet due to weather
forecasts the plan was pushed back to June. Another problem was that every branch of the
military wanted quiet weather . This entailed low tides so that the underwater obstacles could be
seen, the low tide needed to be around mid morning so that they could bomb the defenses and so
that a second low tide could roll in before darkness set in(Miller 171). The Air troops wanted no
ground fog or heavy mist, no more than 6/10th of the sky be clouded, and a cloud base at least
3,000 feet above ground level. To ensure that the troops were not too widely spread to the wind
speed would need to be 20 mph. With no gusts at the ground more than 30 mph(Stagg 13). The
demands of the Air troopers were reasonable especially since they were going to be the first ones
to land in the middle of the night and start the offensive. But, because of the weather many of the
paratroopers missed their target and were separated from their group. The infamous 101st
airborne was the only group that was able to stay together and suffer the least amount of
casualties( in the book Band of Brothers one soldier not in their platoon asks Where the hell am
I (Ambrose 75). Indicates the unorganized drops). After weekly updates( Eisenhower requested
that the meteorologists give him detailed updates of the weather since January 1944) the
operation was planned to go off on June 4, 1944. However, the sky began to seem ominous, and
the meteorologist had to warn Eisenhower that a cold front that was expected to pass through
Channel about Wednesday, would now be pushed forward earlier 24 or 36 hours earlier ( Stagg
102). With moments the operation was suspended. One day later on June 5,1944 paratroopers and
bombers were able to go across the skies with almost clear skies ( other parts of the skies

  • 2. Platelet Confusion Platelet transfusion There is no fixed platelet count threshold in ICU patients that signals platelet transfusion (93), but because of hemorrhage fear there is a widespread notion that the platelet count should be maintained over 100X109/L in massive bleeding or when bleeding occurs at dangerous sites such as in intracranial hemorrhage (94). In addition to platelet count, the risk of hemorrhage is also dependent on the hematocrit and the bleeding time (95). So, red blood cell transfusion should also be considered as a part of a supportive therapy, if needed (17). Despite these recommendations, it should be born in mind that platelet transfusion is not a risk free procedure and may cause several potentially fatal complications such as contamination, ... A lot can be learned about rhetoric by looking at these two articles: 5 Charts That Show Sexism Is Still Alive and Well in Gaming and The Integrity of Women and Gender Studies . One portrays the gaming community as sexist and underrepresenting women (Kleeman) while the other condemns modern feminism for treating women as victims and vilifying men (Frohlich). The first uses many logical arguments that are used to bring emotion to the reader, and make them feel like certain things are ethically wrong (Kleeman). The second uses a slightly different technique, since it is explicitly an opinion piece (Frohlich). It leads the author to be trusted by the reader, and then presents the author s opinions that are backed by logical arguments (Frohlich). It also causes the reader to experience emotional and ethical feelings (Frohlich). 5 Charts That Show Sexism Is Still Alive and Well in Gaming This text is published by a media company called Mic. Their target audience is young people and they cover a wide variety of subjects such as News, Arts, and Technology (Mic /about). • 4. Tea Drinking In The 1800s Tea was declared the National Drink of England in 1784. The eighteenth century saw the transformation of tea as an everyday necessity for the poor and working class of the British society. To meet the domestic demand at home, the British East India Company imported great volumes of tea from China. The teaimport increased from an estimated 64 tons in 1711 to 6800 tons in 1791. Even heavy import tax could not deter an increasingly expanding domestic market for the Chinese tea. As tea drinking had become obsession with the British society, consumption of tea replaced home brewed beer, gin, milk and traditional infusions of indigenous plants. This great transformation in the consumption pattern of British society led to the commodification of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Pre Assessment Quantitative And Qualitative Data Essay Combined approach. Once the data from both the quantitative component and qualitative component had been summarized, the two sets of results were compared. The pre assessment quantitative and qualitative data sets were reviewed to look for convergence. The two post assessment data sets were similarly reviewed. The changes from pre to post assessment were reviewed together to look for similarities, differences, anomalies, and possible future areas of study. Additionally, the data as a whole was considered to determine what descriptive narrative it implied. Differences. The original research design underwent some changes to adapt to the changing situation with the organization. Participant demographics. The class was designed based on having a larger percentage of internally promoted employees in class. While the majority of new managers in class were internal promotions, they were not the majority of the overall class population, due to a couple unexpected non manager participants. This likely skewed the results, due to both the data gathered from the unexpected participants and to the change in experience the target participants had, having non target population members in attendance. Additionally, a larger participant group was anticipated overall. Due to scheduling conflicts (specifically summer vacations), and to an unexpected slowdown in promotions and hires, two scheduled classes were cancelled and the overall participant number dropped to less than half of what was ... • 6. Social Media in Africa Three years ago I spent five weeks in Central Africa Republic. Traveling around the countryside and visiting with nationals was rewarding in many ways. If you asked me then, I would have never foreseen what direction the country was headed. I could never have imagined the once beautiful capital of Bangui would turn into war torn rubbish, filled with refugees fleeing from harm. Central Africa Republic is in the middle of a war brought on by its own people. Muslims and Christian s battle back and forth aggressively killing one another and inputting fear into many. Humanitarians have been risking their lives attempting to stop the chaos and bring the country back to order. Organizations like the United Nations and UNICEF are doing their part to provide for the refugees, while individuals like Peter Bouckaert and Samantha Power are meeting with rebel leaders encouraging peace. Social media, in particular Twitter, has been a major platform for these organizations and individuals to share with the world the experiences they are encountering daily. Using Twitter hashtags like #CAR and #CARcrisis allows for stories to be told and information to be released throughout the world. Individuals worldwide are becoming aware of the circumstances happening overseas by simply opening their Twitter account, and not just from mainstream news sources. To keep a continuous supply of ATP, ATP is resynthesized using one of the three energy pathways. The three energy pathways are the phosphagen, anaerobic and aerobic systems. The phosphagen system known as the ATP CP pathway, uses creatine phosphate (CP) to resynthesize ATP. CP re bonds ADP to produce ATP after it is broken down. The ATP CP pathway is the quickest way to resynthesize ATP and is the predominant energy system used for short term high intensity activities. Two exercises that utilize the ATP CP pathway are weightlifting and sprinting. The anaerobic system known as the glycolytic pathway, uses glucose to produce ATP. Glucose is broken down into pyruvate through glycolysis to produce ATP. The amount of energy produced is very little, but you get the energy quickly. The glycolytic pathway is the second fastest way to resynthesize ATP and is the predominant energy system used for large bursts activities. • 9. Money In The Great Gatsby Analysis Dirty Money Offering a glimpse at the world in the 1920s, F. Scott Fitzgerald weaves the skewed mindsets of money oriented Americans in all of the distinct social groups into his novel The Great Gatsby. Despite the characters beliefs, money is actually destructive; it turns them into the worst versions of themselves. As the newcomer Nick Carraway delves into the world of the East and West Eggers, Fitzgerald details the detrimental repercussions of depending on money. Born into their wealth, the Buchanans fashion the concept that old money abuses their power and hides in the safety of their wealth. They comfortably fall back into their money to excuse their actions flaunting when they can and fleeing when they want to. While visiting his mistress Myrtle, Tom gets angry and [breaks] her nose with his open hand (Fitzgerald 37). He believes that his wealth justifies this sort of conduct; women like Myrtle are disposable and replaceable, therefore, he can abuse them. Tainted with immorality and brutality, he objectifies women, buying, using, and discarding them as he pleases. His materialistic view of the world generates his superior attitude that fuels his violent behaviors. Following Myrtle s death, the Buchanans escape from the scene, epitomizing Nick s idea that they [smash] up things and creatures and then [retreat] back into their money (Fitzgerald 180). A standout amongst the most intriguing parts of human life is the manner by which we pick our mates. Animals likewise pick their mates, in some cases with a lot of consideration. • 15. Descriptive Essay About Taco Madre Taco Madre is a new Mexican restaurant that opened in Niles, IL. There were several reasons why this restaurant caught my eye. The interior was designed wonderfully but the location didn t seem like a good fit, the food was tasty, the people who went were from all age groups, and the music was entertaining. This restaurant had mostly pros with one con, but, overall, this is a restaurant that everyone should try because it has a taste of Mexico with a modern style. The first time I went to Taco Madre, I noticed the location right away. This restaurant recently opened in my area, so my friends and I decided to check it out and get a bite to eat. I noticed it was located next to Papa Johns and a Wings restaurant. Because, there are other restaurants surrounding the premises, it will create competition. My first impression was to dock some points because of where it was located, but the interior area made up for it. As I stepped inside the restaurant, the first thing that caught my eye was the walls because it had the same design as the menu. It struck out because the patterns of the flowers that were imprinted on the walls showed a lot of colors, which helped brighten the room and add a sense of dimension/comfort. Not only were the colors of the walls vibrant, but so was the salsa bar because it was presented with a wide range of spices to choose from. Moreover, Taco Madre had an excellent variety of food choices. Some of the food they served were tacos, burritos, and tortas. The menu was not overbearing like the Cheesecake Factory, but it was not limited like another restaurant. The aroma of the Mexican food would make anyone salivate, the food has always tasted fresh; plus, they put extra cilantro with a lime on the side. My friends and I combined the individual tables to make a gigantic seating arrangement suitable for the six of us. I ordered a Mahi mahi, which is fried fish; there is an option of flour or corn tortilla, and for dessert I ordered flan. The flan had vanilla ice cream, cherries, and whipped cream added to the top. Hailed by many as the ultimate lesbian novel of its time, it took a bold and bawdy look at the lesbian experience in America. The storyline moved quickly, tracing the experiences of Molly Bolt, a young southern girl who had been adopted by a severe, conservative mother and her more liberal husband. Brown s novel set a tone that was direct and controversial, and employed language that had never before been used in connection with the lesbian experience (Pela 2). The novel is uniquely American, as it traces Molly s young life from her earliest years in York, Pennsylvania, through a move to a small southern town in Georgia, and finally to the city of New York, where Molly feels as though she belongs. In each setting, Brown forcefully exhibits her craft by capturing not just the dialogue, but the mannerisms, biases, and cultural peculiarities of each locale. Summary Of The LA Riots As a result of a detestable court decision and the visceral televised imagery of the beaten Rodney King, police brutality became recognized as a ceaseless injustice oppressing black communities. These events managed to spur a conversation most relevant today but one that many continue to disregard. The LA Riots of 1992 still stands as one of if not the most critical event that tapped into the way we view systematic racism by sparking deep rooted dialogue about the intermingling of race , economics and injustice in America for African Americans. When looking back at the riots 25 years later, society has often received the needless white perspective and the necessary African Americanvoice. However, many forget how many Korean Americans were affected by these events. At the time, black and Korean communities were at odds with one another without understanding each other s shared struggles as a result of the gradual segregation between wealthy white communities and impoverished minority enclaves. Teens seem to be drinking their way through high school and college because it s the trend of the century. They go out to party and there is no party, if there is no alcohol. They begin to believe there is no fun in partying without the use of alcohol. According to, the 2009 Youth Risk Behavior Survey, 40% of high school students drank some amount of alcohol, 24% binge drank, and 10% drove after drinking and 28% rode with a driver who had been drinking(Youth Risk Behavior Survey, P.3) . In Hamlet, William Shakespeare utilizes id, ego, superego, the oedipal complex, and depression to show how Old King Hamlets murder and Gertrude s marriage to Claudius causes Hamlet to eventually go mad. Hamlet is extremely jealous of the attention that his mother, Gertrude, has shown to both his father, Old King Hamlet, and his uncle and new step father, Claudius. Hamlet says, Must I remember? • 30. Existentialism And The Beliefs Of The Movement Losing all hope was freedom. One of the most powerful quotes in Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk that is a good summary of existentialism and the beliefs of the movement. Existentialism was a turning point for society and literature that advocated the expansion of the minds of authors and their readers so we could improve our thinking to be more enlightened and free. The movement sparked much alternative thinking to allow our society to grow into what it is today and without it people would most likely be more close minded and less free. Existentialismwas a very influential movement with many impactful authors and will forever be remembered in history because of it s unique ideas about the existence of the individual person as a free and responsible agent determining their own development through acts of the will and how it shifted a culture. Existentialism is a philosophical idea within ethics that was developed in the 19th century and progressed heavily into the 20th century. Some basic foundational ideas of existentialism are found in early Buddhist and Christian writings, which may have been the starting point for the movement. Also, like existentialism s previous philosophical ideas that came before it, it rebels against traditional Western thought that believes rationality and consciousness are the key points to understanding the human condition. From time to time, the area in which the missionary is called to serve is a foreign land, where they would have to start anew and sacrifice some of their own privilege interests. In general, when people think about missionaries, or what it means to be a missionary, they picture a kind person, sympathetic to those around them. Someone who wants to work to better the conditions of livelihood to those they will be serving. Missionaries are to be moral people, or organizations, looking to serve for the better good. However, through the media discussed in class, the main points of comparisons shed a new light on the term of becoming a missionary: the sincere, wholesome imagery of missionaries soon start to fade. Instead, Primeval Forest and Mosquito Coast show the darker side of doing missions: selfishness and self satisfaction. In all three works seen or discussed in/for class, the main protagonists had selfish motivations to travel abroad. The preliminary program design phase is inserted in between the software requirements phase and the analysis phase. By using this technique the designer will assure that the software will not fail because of timing, storage and data flux reasons. There are 3 steps that you will have to do to implement this procedure. 1, Begin the design process with program designers. 2, Design define and allocate the data processing modes. 3, Write an overview document this means that everyone must at least have a slight understanding of the system and there should be one person with deep understanding of the system. The seventh figure shows that if the program is being developed for the first time, arrange matters so that when the final build of the program is delivered to the customer it is actually the second version as the first one is a simulation of it. A manager is responsible for the work of their people, inasmuch as a consistently underperforming employee relies on the direction and feedback of an effective manager. Like it or not, the system of a performance cycle was put into place to force a manager to give feedback to their employees. Every year, managers have an opportunity to assess and then reassess their employee s performance, and every year in kind, they fail to reach the mark. There are two things a manager does, or fails to do, that contribute to the success and failure of a performance cycle: fail to give real timefeedback and midcourse correction when necessary and give honest feedback during the appraisal.
