Comparing Clueless And Directed By Amy Heckerling
The film Clueless, written and directed by Amy Heckerling, is an adaptation of Jane Austen s
novel. The producers deliberately set out to make new trends for teenagers, even releasing a
Clueless inspired line of Barbie dolls, and these efforts were wildly successfully. The main
character, Cher is 15 going on 16 years old. She is a spoiled, socially successful, high class snob
who, after undergoing a crisis brought on by their own pride and repression of their feelings, are
transformed from callowness to mental and emotional maturity. Clueless is an interesting social
experiment. But, at the same time, the film is a satire on the very people it was marketed to.

Weight Loss And Extreme Diets
How many time has someone started a popular weight loss diet and it either didn t work, or the
results didn t last long before the weight loss came right back? In America now, there are over 30
states that have 25% or more of the adults and children that are overweight or obese (Cleveland
State University, 2013, p. 217). Since the beginning of this obesity epidemic, the risk of
cardiovascular and metabolic diseases have increased over the years (Cordain, 2011, pp. 5 7). This
results in new fad dietsthat are introduced to the media every year and soon after, everyone is
trying it out to lose those pounds fast. These fad diets don t usually entail lifestyle changes, rather
they suggest a quick fix to a person s weight lossproblem. There are weight loss supplements and
extreme diets that cut out one or more food groups entirely. This can make it difficult for most
people to stick with. One of these diets suggests that if we pick up the eating lifestyle of our
Paleolithic ancestors, we could become as healthy and fit as they were millions of years ago
(Cordain, 2011, p. 6). This Paleo diet was first thought of by Dr. S. Boyd Eaton and Melvin
Konner in the mid 1980 s when they did primary research into what our ancestors ate and what
affects this diet would have on current Homo sapiens (Frassetto, Schloetter, Mietus Synder, Morris,
Sebastian, 2009). They found that the ideal diet [is] found in the nutritional practices of our Stone
Age ancestors (Cordain, 2011, p. 4). At

The Power of Conformity Essay
The Power of Conformity
Conformity refers to an individual s behavior that is performed because of group pressure, even
though that pressure might not involve a direct request. Many people want to think that they are
conformist enough so that they are not looked upon as strange to others and nonconformist enough
to demonstrate that they are capable of thinking by themselves. For many years, psychologists have
been interested in human conformity. Usually when people are in groups, they behave according to
how those in the group behave. That indicates that conformity can affect a person s behavior and
make a person do things that may be against their ethics, attitudes, and morals. The study of ... Show

What the eighth subject did not know was the other seven subjects were not exactly subjects. They
knew what to do and what would happen.
An experimenter held up one of the cards and the subjects had to match on of the lines with the
single line. For the first two cards, the seven matched the two pairs on lines correctly. The eighth
subject answered correctly as well. On the third pair of cards, the seven subjects answered wrong
to see if the eighth subject would conform or answer correctly. Asch found out that 75% of the
subjects conformed at least once in the trials, but not one person conformed every time. The other
25% did not conform with any of the groups decisions. Some of the experiments had the subjects
write down their answer so the line lengths could be accurately judged. In these experiments, 98%
of the real subjects answered correctly. Asch found out many things from the experiment. Some of
the findings are social support, attraction and commitment to the group, size of the group, and sex.
Asch did the same experiment with a slight variation. He changed the answers of the seven subjects
so that one of them always gave the right answer. This comforted the real subject and only 5% of
the subjects agreed with the group answer. This social support experiment showed that if one
person gives the same answer then a person feels more comfortable. Also, other experiments
showed that the more attracted and committed

Analysis Of Del Monte s Magazine Advertisements
Tamara Duvall
Dr. Cerise Meyers
Introduction to Art
March 26, 2017
It s Time to Refresh
A healthy diet that includes fruit is important, as it increases your energy leaving you feeling
refreshed. The artist of this Del Monte image captures the idea of refreshment in this magazine
advertisement for Del Monte s new fruit cups called Fruit Refreshers.
The first thing that grabs your attention in this advertisement is how the image jumps off the
page at you in vibrant detail. The negative space is in black giving the focal point the ability to
capture it s audience s attention the way the fruit cup, centered on the page, is tipped and
surrounded by a splash of liquid like the cup has been tossed into a pool of water. In the upper
left corner is the phrase, It s Time to REFRESH! This simple sentence makes a powerful
statement of direction, inviting you to try their new product. This powerful image is balanced
with the addition of a woman sharing her excitement as she leaps up in a joyful expression of
feeling alive and refreshed. The color palette used is of warm colors from the color wheel which
helps to contrast nicely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The artist gives movement to this woman by using angles and lines appropriately. While the
image is at a standstill, you can see movement in how her arms and legs are elegantly positioned
in diagonal positions. This creates directional movement as her right arm reaches up and her left
arm extends downward and towards the side. He right legs is also positioned in a display of
movement how it is bent at the knee and swinging in front of her left leg. If I were to imagine how
this image was to look in a few seconds of video, I believe the woman is leaping up and
proclaiming how refreshed and alive she feels. She, also, has water splashing away from her upper
arm as if she is splashing around in a pool of water, playfully throwing it up into the

Television And Internet News Programs
News or Nonsense Television and internet news programs have began to stray away from a
strictly informative report of current happenings to vague, non factually based entertainment
stories. This is a direct result of society s desire to worry about everyone s feelings. In the past,
viewers passionately desired accurate information and statistics on the nation s current events.
As of now, a different generation of viewers and new s providers bestow the supply and demand
of news stories based on emotions, rather than fact. With extremist groups becoming increasingly
popular the demand for highly biased news is snowballing. New s corporations like FOX
capitalize on this by providing news that is consistently biased to one point of view. Having a
one sided production such as FOX creates a type of animosity between them and their
competition. This seems rather childish, making these top tier new companies look like a joke.
In result, a viewer will struggle to find a new s broadcast that provides more than a couple of
relevant stories based on factual information. Instead, the bulk of content is displayed in a look at
me, feel bad for me, or look at them format. From this, the broadcasters work at the heart strings
of their viewers. They get the viewer to invest emotion into a story, creating a reaction and desire
to hear, see, and feel more. Given the response, broadcasters see interest in emotionally based
stories skyrocket and interest in factually based stories

Universal Cobra Pussy Analysis
The theme of this exhibition is the environment and the earth. The artist try to find a method that
intuitive and labor intensive from different cultural and geographical location in the processing of
materials and narrative images. The most interesting artwork is Universal Cobra Pussy (2011). It
was done by Shuvinai Ashoona (a contemporary artist in Dorset County) and Shary Boyle (he is
mainly focus on the aspect of sculpture, painting and performance). This picture uses ink, gouache
and coloured pencil to show me a vivid story. It gives me unique insights of how creatures and
earth effect other creatures. The top half part of the picture is the colorful painting and the dumping
of status. The artists use two spiders with apple and a long

Conflict In Sundiata
Conflicts are sometimes destructive, but perhaps they teach a lesson. They are a source of
quarreling, ridicule, and sometimes motivation to reflect on oneself. Conflict in one s life is also
a source of personal growth and learning. Every conflict in life, no matter how small or seemingly
insignificant, shapes a person s character. In the Mali epic Sundiata, the main character, Sundiata,
experiences many conflicts in his life. The conflicts with his family, his physical body, and himself
help to transform his character from a boy with few abilities to a capable young man. Physical
disabilities can be crippling. Some disabilities can be overcome, but no matter what effect they
leave physically, they have lasting effects on character. Sundiata... Show more content on

Family relationships can have the greatest impact one s life. Family can encourage, but they can
also criticize and be judgmental. Judgments and attitudes expressed towards a person can either
motivate them or demolish their self esteem. From the moment Sundiata was born, every step of
the way at every major developmental milestone, NarГ© Maghan s first wife constantly
ridiculed Sundiata and his mother for his lack of abilities, looks, and overall development. She
even called him a ` lion that crawls on the ground` (129). This mocking continued for years. The
acidulous remarks must have made him self conscious in some way, which might have
encouraged him to walk. Not only were the over wives derisive, but also Sundiata s own mother
was cynical in her attitude towards him. Sassouma mocked Sogolon for not having a son that
could get leaves from a tree for her, Sogolon hit him with a wooden board, fed up with his
selfishness and showing no interest in walking (132). When Sundiata offered to get her leaves or
even the entire tree, then asked for the iron bar, one can infer that a change in his character
occurred either from feeling ashamed he let down his mother or from his mother nagging him to
walk. Either way, the relationships with his family and their bullying caused him to make the
decision to walk, which was a massive leap forward in his development as a character. It meant he
finally showed a desire to walk,

Developmental Life Cycle Theory
The family developmental and life cycle theory is the studying of families, which include stages
that the family move through based on life experiences, that are usually predictable depending on
the stage they are in (Kaakinen, Coehlo, Steele, Tabacco, Hanson, 2015). There are nine tasks that
families must accomplish in order for the familyto achieve well being. In this discussion board
post, I will be discussing task two, which is financing childbearing and child rearing. Having
children, whether planned or not, produces additional expenses for a family that some may not
be prepared for. While parents don t immediately think about long term cost when raising a child,
it is shown that raising a child in American from birth to age 17, is over $241,080, and this
number is expected to increase every year Covert, 2013). It is estimated that over 15 million
children are living in povertyin the United States. These families encounter an imbalance in their
education, health care, and socioeconomic resources (Milteer, Ginsburg, Mulligan, 2012). These
low income families must focus on their daily survival and this creates an economic hardship.
Milteer et al., (2012) shows that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, when you incorporate an illness with this disparity, the financial burden of this life
circumstance can be overbearing. Borrero et al., (2015) also found that most families try to
prepare for a pregnancy by getting their finances in order prior to conceiving. However, this family
had no precognition that after they became pregnant, the father would be injured, therefore
reducing their income. In conclusion, as their nurse, I was able to assess their family dynamics
and conclude that by providing them with additional places to get assistance, this family was able
to achieve an acceptable well being until the father was rehabilitated and back on his feet

One Stop Deca Shoppe Case Summary
The biggest challenge we find ourselves with is the sales towards the end of the year. In 2015 we
had a little trouble getting rid of the clothing lines from that year to make room for the stores new
lines in 2016. A change the staff will be making is seasonal clothing sales on sweatpants,
sweatshirts, jackets, mittens and hats when spring time comes around. This is so customerfeel an
impulse buy when they see the sale and come back the following year for the new clothing line as
well.
PI: Evaluate Pricing Decisions
Using the example slushies , the store did the best it could with increasing profits made. For years
the slushie income was barely breaking even, until this year. This year the school store decided to
try something new to increase the profits on slushies and it worked. As slushies are the number one
selling item in the store, it was a smart decision to focus on increasing profits for them.

away an unnecessary amount of samples. The school store is also armed with a security camera
as well as at least two school store employees at all times which has deterred all theft entirely. If
there were to be a complication with theft, the school store manager and chapter advisor has access
to the video footage of the school store where they can investigate the theft immediately. The issue
of damage is the most problematic of the three, when a product is damaged, the store will offer a
refund to the customer. Depending on the level of damage to the product will determine

Alexander Hamilton Advantages And Disadvantages
Alexander Hamilton Hamilton was man who had everything going against him since the
beginning. Unlike many of the other Founding Fathers, he did not have a privileged
background. Hamilton was the only founder born outside the American colonies. He was an
immigrant who had many disadvantages early on. Instead of settling for an unremarkable life,
he did not let them stopped his ambition. His disadvantages only fueled his ambition. He was a
smart man who was always in the pursuit of honor. Always outspoken and fearless, Hamilton
transformed our country. It did not took him long when he came to the colonists to make an
impression. He was an advocate for revolution since the beginning and was destined to become a
hero of the American Revolution. After the Revolutionary War was over, he was the most
important supporter of the Constitution which he defended in the Federalist Papers. This made
him key in the ratification of the Constitution. As Secretary of Treasury, he became the architect
of the country s financial system. It took effort and a lot of writing but he was able to complete
his very unlikely path to greatness. The life of one of the most influential individuals in
American history began in 1755 on the island Nevis in the British West Indies. In this tiny
tropical island in the Caribbean was where he came into this world at the very bottom of the
social order. He was a bastard illegitimate, because his mother was not legally married to his
father. As a result, he was prohibited from attending a Christian school, and had no rights of
inheritance. When he was ten, his family moved to St. Croix, where hundreds of plantations
worked by slaves produce sugar and coffee for export. His Scottish born father, James A.
Hamilton, came to the West Indies with the ambition to make a fortune in the sugar trade, but was
never successful. Soon after they arrive on St. Croix, his father abandoned the family. He would
never see his father again. Only about two years later at the age of thirteen his mother, Rachel
Faucette, died of yellow fever. Faucette s small estate went all to her first husband, Hamilton only
kept the books. He loved reading and took advantage of these books and the knowledge stored in
them.

James E. Porter’s Idea of Originality in Intertextuality...
Since I arrived in the United States one of the first concepts that was introduced to me was the
concept of plagiarism and the severity of its consequences. Since that moment I see myself
focusing much more on paraphrasing and not committing plagiarism than the quality of the ideas
that I am writing. However, I have noted that most of my ideas and opinions are probably based on
somebody else s work I might have read before. Therefore, is it not plagiarism? In the article
Intertextuality and the Discourse Community, James E. Porter challenges the ideaof what plagiarism
truly is. He states that it is almost impossible to write without committing some sort of plagiarism.
Instead, Porter introduces the concept of intertextuality, which he... Show more content on

What he describes as originality is to take somebody else s ideas and create new perspectives and
opinions based on those points of view. In other words, Porter suggests that creativity is a matter
of interpretation and that anything we write is the result of what we interpret when we read. That
is why taking other s ideas to draw knew opinions should not be called plagiarism because
inevitable all writing contains some sort of intertextuality. One can say that intertextuality is
necessary for a writer to have a better understanding of what they read. As an international
student myself, paraphrasing is one of the aspects that turns writing into a nightmare for me.
Since my vocabulary is somewhat reduced, I have to focus more on making my sentences look
as different as possible to the original texts. I was so scared of committing plagiarism that I did
not even consider the aspect of using the author s ideas and creating my own opinions. Instead I
preferred to follow the norm and paraphrase as much as possible. Sometimes I felt my professors
paid much more attention to what I might have plagiarized rather than the quality of my own
ideas. That is why writing turned into a systematic process in which I would only have to know
how to rephrase sentences and I would be fine. In the moment I read Porter s essay I thought it was
contradictory to all

The paper that is being looked at is the New York Daily News, published on the 6th of July,
claiming to have the largest circulation in the Manhattan Bronx area(ref3). The circulation is quite
substantial for the city, but doesn t spread any further within that paper. It is one of the first tabloids
within the area to have grown popularity, and in the chosen article suggests a more conservative
lean, having a strong impact on the language used within the pages of the newspaper. It seems to be
more likely to be focused on appealing for the middle class. In this article especially, there is the
use of strong homophobic language, and refusal to correctly gender those taking part in the riot,
including referring to the patrons of the bar as little girls (ref4). This brings into question the

Computerize Medical Insurance System
A CHAPTER ONE INTRODUCTION 1.1 Background Recent years have seen remarkable
technological advance in computing, with computer spreading over in usage to various areas of
life. The enunciation of a new era in computing as regards to health care has emerged to play a
prominent role in the delivery of healthcare. The application and use of machines and computer
based technologies in health care have undergone an evolutionary process. Advance in information,
telecommunication, and network technologies have led to the emergence of a revolutionary new
way of health care delivery leading to new experience and knowledge that cross traditional
disciplinary boundaries in the fields of information technology and health care, along with... Show

Hence the need to provide support services which add real value to healthcare delivery is highly
required, giving rise to health insurance schemes and policies. For the masses to benefit from it
there must be timely, effective, reliable and efficient healthcare delivery at this level. The available
record shows that this has not been achieved yet. The current method used by most hospital in
ascertaining insurance information of patient is still manually and inefficient. This makes the
operation unnecessarily slow and cumbersome. The problems observed include the following: *
Slow tracking of medical insurance information that is needed for urgent decision making and
analysis * Lost of vital and important information * Difficulty in retrieving insurance information
1.3Justification of study The idea of computerizing the medical insurance system is to fully
computerized the existing insurance scheme at the hospital end, removing the manual systems
which have so many hand downs. The Computerized Medical Insurance System (CMIS) provides:
* An accurate and efficient data/information that is well organized and easier to read compared to
the traditional paper insurance record. * It improves the efficiency of processes such as data
collection, data management, data retrieval and Maintenance of up to date medical insurance
information for quick and fast decision making. * Proper patient insurance record maintenance *

Drug Use Concept Essay
The concept of drug use was not always seen as problematic. Instead, students viewed substance
use as a means of remedying negative emotions as a sign of addiction. Overall students were able
to recognize and share how their peers and close relations had suffered from this type of use,
rather than admit that they personally had used substances as a means of self medicating negative
emotions. The idea of using drugs to remedy negative emotions was also named use as a source of
happiness or a means of escape. Despite these different descriptions all of these concepts have roots
in dislocation causing addictive behaviors. Among the interviews conducted, examples of negative

The result of this sudden displacement was feelings of loneliness and isolation. She attempted
to remedy the resulting emotional traumas through alcohol use. Alcohol acted to replace the

enhance positive experiences with her friends, she began to drink alone and drink heavily. It
was this dependency on alcohol as a source of happiness and the resulting erratic behaviors that
were viewed as problematic by Sophia and her other roommates. Animals in nature can have a
similar response to dislocation or emotional suffering. In Johann Hari s book Chasing the

for a few hours and had stayed away from it ever since. But not now. Stricken with grief the

Internship Interflection
My end of internship impression of Menards has changed a lot over the duration of my time in
many ways that the corporate office does actually care about its team member by offering a

way that surprised me was if you hard work, your managers notice, and inform corporate office
that you make receive a small pay increase. My opinion of the workplace knows I have realized

Mother Teresa Was Known For Giving
Mother Teresa was known for giving. She devoted a lot of her life to helping the poor and the sick,
and she received a Nobel Peace Prize for the work that she did. Her 87 full years of living a life that
most of us couldn t imagine are what gives Mother Teresa quotes such weight. Whether you are
religious or not, her experiences in life made her a wise woman. The following Mother Teresa
quotes on life are good reminders of how to live each day.
1. Create Better Relationships
If you judge people, you have no time to love them.
When was the last time you judged someone? Today? Probably! As humans we are built with the
capability to judge others to an inch of their life. But, we judge them based on our opinions and
beliefs, not on the truth. We don t know what others are thinking. We don t know what makes them
do what they do or what their intentions really are. So why do we judge?
Mother Teresa was focused on loving other people, and she understand that judging took away
the capability to love. If you are too busy pointing a finger at other people, you can t stop and feel
connected to them in any way. Instead, you feel repelled by them, which puts a distance in
between the two of you. In other words, instead of judging people, make your time about loving
them for who they are and you will develop stronger relationships.

Humor In Mindy Kaling s Why Not Me
CLEVER I will leave you with one last piece of advice, which is: If you ve got it, flaunt it. And if
you don t got it? Flaunt it. Cause what are we even doing here if we re not flaunting it? In Mindy
Kaling s memoir Why Not Me? Mindy brings her incredible humor, into a collection of hilarious
stories and advice. She has a lovely readable tone and laugh out loud sense of humor, but she
also adds in a little more heart. The whole thing is tied together essentially by the same big thing,
which is how her life has changed in the past three years after having her own TV show. All of
the essays in the book are funny, but the best ones are the ones where she wrestles with the
question, Who is Mindy Kaling? She talks frankly about her public image, her body image, and her

I hate how she thinks she is so great. But it s not that I think I m so great. I just don t hate

around women who don t hate themselves. So that s why you need to be a little bit brave.
Kaling rose to fame as an actor and writer on the sitcom The Office, and she went on to create
and star in The Mindy Project Her first book, Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other

Economic Recession Of 2009
The economic recession of 2009 pushed some financial institutions to bankruptcy. The banking
industry was also a victim of this economic hardship. Some solid institutions like Bank of America,
Trust Bank, and Wells Fargo take over other banks for different reasons: market power,
diversification, cost savings, and external growth. These banks acquire all the assets and the
liabilities of another bank. These banks obtained the property rights and new market power. This
research paper is to look at the economic advantages of the merger and to make some predictions.
These bank mergers can generate a great number of advantages. First, the economy of scale is one

Rating Othello
Rating Othello
Is this Shakespearean tragedy Othello at the top of the rating chart, or is it just near the top? And
why? This essay intends to examine various aspects of this subject, along with critical opinion.
This play ranks near the top. The Bard s presentation of emotions, character, of good and evil
actions that are down to earth these are sometimes seen as the main reasons for the high ranking of
Othello. Louis B. Wright and Virginia A. LaMar in The Engaging Qualities of Othello maintain that
the popularity of this play has been consistent for about 400 years because
it treats emotions that are universal and persistent in human nature. Its characters do not exist on a

Such human wisdom can be found in Iago s initial words to sleepy Brabantio: Zounds, sir, y are
robbed! For shame, put on your gown! / Your heart is burst; you have lost half your soul. Indeed,
the disappearance of Desdemona from home would seem as such to an elderly father. Human
wisdom is obvious again and again; for example, when the senator escorts the general to the
council, the duke addresses the valiant Othello without even noticing the senator at first: I did not
see you. Welcome, gentle signior. As Othello begins his address before council, he employs much
wisdom in the first two verses: Most potent, grave, and reverend signiors, / My very noble, and
approved good masters, by being as complimentary as possible, it would seem.
Shakespeare s human wisdom no doubt comes partially from his understanding of the workings of
man s mind. He possesses the ability to analyze in a psychological manner. Harry Levin s General
Introduction to The Riverside Shakespeare includes these comments regarding the psychological
aspect of Shakespeare s characters:
During the later eighteenth and most of the nineteenth century, Shakespeare s interpreters
practiced what Bernard Shaw liked to call Bardolatry. They all but deified the Bard of Avon
because he was the creator of so many characters who could be treated as if they were human
beings could be identified with, psychologized over [my

Career Trajectory In Nursing
A career trajectory is a formalized plan for a successful transition into a career path that an
individual has chosen. Likewise, the goal of nursing is to improve health through the advancement
of knowledge therefore, improving the safety, effectiveness, and the access for healthcare. In
combining these two definitions, a career trajectory in nursing advancement is to allow for clarity
of direction and expected outcomes in a career by meeting the goals to advance in the healthcare
field. In order to build a successful career as an advanced practitioner an individual must consider
the requirements of the position and make strategic decisions in order to facilitate progression

The arrangement for the Champaign presents powerful and good elements for the inherent

House Of The Scorpion Book Report
The house of the Scorpion was a intriguing book, but had a very sluggish beginning so it was
hard to read. It s mainly about a drug lord that owns the land of opium that is placed in the
United states. To me there were a lot of slow parts and it felt like there were almost two parts of the
book. Most of the slow parts were in the first part of the bookwhen Matt was gradually figuring out
everything and I just thought they didn t have to stretch it out so much. One half of the book is
about Matt and what happens when he lives in the land of Opium. It goes on about how he got
there and how he was treated and who were his friends and enemies. Additionally when he is
there he learns about El Patron and his true intentions. Then the other half of the book is about
Matt in Aztlan, which is like where Mexico is, and who he finds and what happens to him over
there. The one thing I did like in this book was the characters and how different they were, Celia
was Matt s care taker and the author gave her the homey feeling which was portrayed very well.
The other character I really liked was Tam Lin, to me he became very well developed over time.
There is many other characters though like Maria and Steven and Tom who all live in Opium. But
to me overall the ending is what got me to like it most, so I am glad I held out till the end.... Show

Oedipus As A Tragic Hero
Although not all who wander or deviate from the path are lost, some clearly are. When Oedipus,
the eponymous character of Sophocles tragedy Oedipus Rex, first learns that he is destined to kill
his father and marry his mother, he abandons his home intent on never returning in order to avoid
meeting his fate. Unbeknownst to the tragic hero, before the curtain s rise, the prophecy has already
been fulfilled. Consequently, due to the underlying corruption in Thebes, the people are perishing
of a plague that will not cease until the man responsible for the death of the previous Theban King,
King Laius, is identified and brought to justice. This urgency propels Oedipusto discover that his
biological father is not the King of Corinth who... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The significance of this theme is conveyed through Sophocles and Shakespeare s usage of dialog,
characterization, and symbolism. To start, Sophocles and Shakespeare utilize dialog to illustrate
the theme of exile within their respective works. Attempting to ease Oedipus s mind by
convincing him that he has nothing to fear in the predictions of the oracles, Jocasta gives the
ironic example of the plot to kill her own infant son to avoid a similar prophecy. Sophocles
dialog for Jocasta states, But Laius,/ so the report goes at least, was killed by strangers,/ thieves,
at a place where three roads meet ... [M]y son / he wasn t three days old and the boy s father
/ fastened his ankles, had a henchman fling him away on a barren, trackless mountain./ There, you
see? (787 793). Although exile, or at least the threat of exile, is prevalently addressed within the
dialog of both works, Jocasta s rashness to murder her child is jarring, even more so due to the
inappropriately comforting tone with which Jocasta retrospects on such a sinister deed. Likewise,
King Lear responds irrationally when he promptly arranges a marriage for Cordelia to the King
of France after Cordelia admits that she loves her father only to the extent that it is appropriate
for a daughter to love her father. Shakespeare s written dialog for Lear reads, Let her be thine, for
we/ Have no such daughter, nor shall ever see/That face of hers again (1.4.264 266). Like Jocasta,

The Swastika In The Complete Maus
In the scene Vladek and Anja s first view of a swastika from window of a train from The
Complete Maus ,Art Speigelman uses several literary devices to deliver the story and emphasise it

This scene begins with Vladek continuing to narrate from the previous scene, where Anja had a

were passing by a small town, when someone noticed the swastika. Vladek mentions that ..every

There is relatively dark shading in the third panel, creating a gloomy mood in the train carriage.
The biggest symbol in this scene however, is the swastika. The swastika is a symbol for the german

extermination. In the scene, the third panel uses the swastika as a sign of the German Nazis,
while it is used in repetition when the stories of what was happening to the Jews as a

of repetition is to emphasise the demeaning of the Jews, and also functions like a growing moon,
that is dawning over the Jews, but is dominant everywhere. However, the swastika originally has
vertical and horizontal lines, as a symbol of peace, before it was tilted slightly to be used as a
flag for the german Nazis. There is an irony that in the third panel, the flag is folded to look like

Many of Today s Drivers have Dangerous HabitsIntroduction:In this modern era, the number of
road accidents has increased significantly. Reckless driving habits causes majority of these
accidents. Many of today s drivers have dangerous driving habits. In our day to day lives, you
will ultimately cross paths with a careless driver. Some people survive these ordeals while others
do not. Reckless driving can be seen all the time. These drivers do not only put their lives in
danger but also the lives of other innocent people. Valuable property has been destroyed in the
hands of irresponsible drivers. To improve our driving it is essential to acknowledge some
common dangerous habits practiced by drivers.Discussion:The most common dangerous habit is
driving under the influence of alcohol. In my opinion, this is the greatest offence. People with this
tendency should recognize that they put other in jeopardy. While driving it is important to be
attentive, alcohol makes this impossible (Wanberg et al 17). Another bad habit to consider is
eating while driving. Most of the time the driver is distracted while eating. For example, a driver
spills ketchup on their clothes and then cleans it up. These few seconds taken away from the roadis
enough for one to be involved in an accident. With the recent development mobile phones,
everyone wants to receive and make calls while driving, text and read messages. A driver who is

The project is designed to minimize penalty for industrial units by using automatic power factor
correction unit with the help of zig bee. Power factor is defined as the ratio of real power to
apparent power. This definition is often mathematically represented as KW/KVA, where the
numerator is the active (real) power and the denominator is the (active + reactive) or apparent
power. Reactive power is the non working power generated by the magnetic and inductive loads,
to generate magnetic flux. The increase in reactive power increases the apparent power, so the
power factor also decreases. Having low power factor, the industry needs

Persuasive Essay On Saving Money
Saving money is an important part of your financial health. The more you save, the more you
can feel at ease whenever a rainy day might hit. You cannot predict the future but you can prepare
for it. If you prepare now, your future self will thank you. But how can you save if you have so
many bills and only one stream of income? Here are some tips you can use to rack up that account
with a single income.
Try to make a budget, it will be your blueprint for your finances. The first step for anyone wanting
to take control of their finances is to make a budget. A budget will allow you to understand where
your money is going and enable you to adjust your spending by designating how much you can
afford. Creating a budget is a good idea for everyone, but especially for individuals with limited
income. Write down your budget, with specific categories of spending, and stick to it. Start slowly
by using a percentage on how much you will save versus spend. A plan doesn t work unless you
work the plan.
Do not live a life that you cannot handle, spend within your means. Be honest with yourself, if you
can t afford something, don t buy it! Affordability is much more than the amount of money in your
bank account, it also is how long it will take for the money you spent to be back in your account.
Think of your finances as a long term process, not a short term fix. This is also why you should
limit your credit card usage. If you rack up your credit card and lose your sole source of income,

This is particularly true in an unexplained saddened death. Babies are not supposed to die before
their parents. Because the death of an infant is a disruption of the natural order, it is traumatic for
parents, family, and friends. Not having a plausible cause of death, the suddenness of the tragedy,
and the involvement of the legal system make a SIDS death especially difficult, leaving a great
sense of loss and a need for understanding. References to SIDS exist throughout recorded medical
history, the use of the term SIDS was adopted by an international work group in 1969. The National
SIDS Act of 1974 recognized SIDS as a significant public health issue in the United States.
Government funding for research and for the establishment of information became available and

running may seem like a simple motion. However, maintaining proper form while physically

To start, I explored the relationship that existed between distance and speed. The speeds of the top
three male and female athletes at each distance have been plotted. For both men and women, there
is an inverse exponential relationship between the speed of the athlete and the event distance. This
trend shows a logical relationship because as the distance of a race increases, the athletes are
going to be slower because running for a longer amount of time requires energy to be conserved.
In order to develop an equation which represents this relationship, I am going to graph the speed
of each athlete against the log of their distance. Because this is an exponential relationship, the
log of x is proportional to speed. This means that when log of distance is plotted along the x axis,
a linear trend will be produced. Once these points are plotted, I will calculate a regression line
using linear regression. Once this equation is found, log x can be substituted into the equation for
the value of x, this new equation would be the regression line for the correlation between speed and

Affirmative action was created to increase the number of people from certain social groups in
employment, education, business, government, and other areas (LaNoue, G., 2010). This policy is
geared toward women, and minorities such as African Americans, Asian Americans, Hispanic
Americans, American Indians, and disabled people. Generally speaking, Affirmative Actionwas put

Therefore, the rationale behind most affirmative action is sound. It does make sense to attempt
to normalize for differences in the college entry level because of the quality of preparation at the
elementary and secondary levels because children have no say in where they attend school.
Typically, they are forced to attend a school nearest to their home and they normally do not have
any control over the quality of education they receive. I made no mention here of race, but the
quality of the education; the unfortunate truth here is that these two are highly correlated in our
country. I derive that those who may benefit from affirmative action policies have the ability to
succeed but the preparation is lacking. No matter what the case may be, they do deserve a
chance. Some would argue that once you reach post college employment opportunities that there
is no need for affirmative action since presumably the educational differences you find in
secondary schools and colleges would have balanced out by the end of your college career. So

someone who is over qualified. Have you ever heard the statement, We decided to go with someone

Motivation And Management Theory Of Motivation Essay
In order to understand motivation in an organization and how it affects its employees and
management we must first understand what exactly motivation is. Motivation in an organization
encourages employees to work efficiently and in the best interest of the company; as the manager of
an organization one should start looking into why or how motivationis established. An organization
will not be as successful if their employees are unmotivated and they will likely have a high
turnover rate. This may be especially important in the upcoming years as more and more
millennials begin to enter into the workforce. On average people switch job at least 10 15 times
in their life and this trend is will mostly likely increase with millennials (Doyle). In my ethics
class we discussed how kids of my generation will make big changes to the way organizations are
run. Millennials may be motivated differently than the generation X workers. Motivation has
continually evolved and now there are different strategies on how to motivate employees. Frederick
Taylor, an engineer who pursued increasing efficiency in organizations, developed the scientific
management theory of motivation. He wanted to be able to figure out the most efficient way to
complete a task. He decided to break down tasks into the smallest possible units (Dininni). He
focused on how much work could be done in a certain amount of time. Taylor s management theory
asserts that organizations should identify the best way to

was demonstrated by knights and their loyalty to their country and to the church. Another example
of loyalty is the The Desert Fox who was loyal to Germany in World War II, but he showed chivalry
when he insisted prisoners be treated as well as officers. The custom of chivalry is seen today in

Fermented beverages have played a part in every civilization. The evolution of fermentation by
human hands has been a diverse one. From the first fermented beverage, mead, found in ancient

beverages have seen tremendous growth. Today, micro craft breweries are displacing the
competition from big brewers in America (Kain n.p.). The number of craft breweries in America

secondary fermentation; all my hard work bore fruit of a recipe that was very enjoyable. It had an
aroma of raspberries, a slight hint of raspberries amidst the wheat and a slight bitter note. When I
held a tasting of my beer, all the participants enjoyed my creation and had some constructive

they would like to take some home.

3.7. Purification of pectinase produced by Brevibacillus borstelensis MSB6: In this aspect of the
study, the culture supernatant containing the crude enzyme was first partially purified by fractional
precipitation with different agents as ammonium sulfate, acetone and ethanol. The different
precipitated fractions were tested for their protein content and pectinase activity, the fraction
showing the highest specific pectinase activity was moreover purified by ion exchange
chromatography followed by gel filtration chromatography.
Electrophoresis of the purified enzyme was done to determine its molecular weight and some

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Nitroxyl Radicals
Nitroxyl radicals, which belong to the six membered piperidine (TEMPO) or the five membered
pyrrolidine (PROXYL) classes, are stable organic free radicals. The steric hindrance around the
nitroxide group makes these compounds very stable. They are less toxic, and even serve as spin
probes [1 2], spin labels [3], contrast agents [4] and antioxidants [5]. Nitroxyl radicals are widely
used as spin probes for low frequency in vivo electron spin resonance imaging (ESRI). In ESRI,
the spatial as well as the spectral information of the exogenously administered spin probes is
obtained. Hence, EPR images present the in vivo visualization of the spin probes often without
complementary anatomical information. In contrast, MRI is a well established modality that gives

Thus, the free radical information can be monitored through observation of changes in proton
NMR signal intensity. The unique advantage of this technique is high spatial resolution of the
image, short acquisition time, good sensitivity and signal enhancement of approximately two
order of magnitudes. The significant contrast to noise ratio obtained by this technique at very
low magnetic fields for 1H based MRI detection (l10 mT) compared to the routinely used MRI
systems that operate at fields 11 T makes OMRI advantageous in obtaining physiological
information. OMRI seems to be one of the most promising method for protease activity imaging
for mainly two reasons. First, it can provide high contrasts and 3D well resolved images as seen
recently on tumor bearing mice [8]. Furthermore the involvement of a free radical is favorable to
molecular imaging since the free electron is very sensitive to various changes in its environment:
redox status [9], pH, molecular rotational correlation time

The Success Of Canadian Banks Essay
Introduction
Canadian Banks has never attracted that much of attention of the whole world until the subprime
meltdown in 2007/2008. Canada was the only G7 country that did not have a government bank
bailout. Canadian banks remained profitable through the crisis. A World Economic Forum report
ranked Canada first among 134 countries on the soundness of its banks.
This paper aims to analyze persuasive reasons for the remarkable success of Canadian Banks in
the subprime meltdown. Regulations have been set before the crisis. However, different countries
implementations are different in practice. The main arguments of this paper are related to the
number characters , leverage ratio and return of equity/asset (R O E/R O A). Using empirical data
of these ratios in different banks in Canada and America lead the paper to several soundness
conclusions.
Background
In 2008, subprime financial crisis started from the United State of America, soon the whole global
economic are shaken by this crisis. However, Canadian bank industry survived from this crisis
surprisingly.
How could Canadian banks survive the subprime meltdown in 2008? It relates to conservative
policies and strict regulations in Canadian bank system. The Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation
(CDIC) insures each depositor at member institutions up to a loss of $100,000 per account. The
purpose of that is to protect deposited from bank insolvency and ensuring the financial stability. In
addition, Canadian banks are

Virginia Woolf Characteristics
Virginia Woolf was, in simple terms, a person. She had many different components that made her
who she was. She was a feminist. And mentally ill. She once said, I detest the masculine point of
view. I am bored by his heroism, virtue, and honour. I think the best these men can do is not talk
about themselves anymore. She thought men always got the to be the hero in things, they were
always honored, rather than women. She felt that they shouldn t get all the attention, and always
talk about themselves. She wanted people to talk more about women being the hero, and women
being honored. Virginia woolfwas a important author in the 20th century because of her feminist
views.
She was born on January 25th, 1882 in Kensington, United Kingdom. She was a english writer in
the 20th century, she is considered one of the most modern writers of that time. Her father was a
journalist, and had a large library. Even though she wasn t allowed a education like males, she
made the best of the library and educated herself. She died on March 28th, 1941 by drowning
herself. She put rocks in her coat pockets and then went into a river by her home.
Though she thought she didn t need a husband she was married to Leonard Woolf. He was also a
author. Due to being sexually abused by her step brother, Virginia didn t respond to sex, she
thought that you only needed to love your husband, which she did. She was offend rather obsessed
with women, and first fell for one named Violet Dickinson, who was

The Effects Of Substance Abuse
Opiate abuse in the United States is an epidemic. It is argued whether addiction is being handled
correctly, and if the amount of resources for combating addiction should be increased. According to
the National Institute on Drug Abuse, The number of past year heroin users in the United States
nearly doubled between 2005 and 2012, from 380,000 to 670,000 (2014). This nation wide increase
of heroinabusers leads to another issue: how to treat them. One method of treatment is giving them
another medication to treat the cravings, it is called an agonist medication. One of the more
prominent of these medications is buprenorphine, brand name Suboxone or Subutex. It is known as
a partial receptor because its effects on opioid receptors is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Along with this, buprenorphine itself is difficult to overdose on when used properly and is shown
to have milder withdrawal effects than other opioids (Jones 2004). This makes it an attractive
option to those who are unable to see their physician very regularly. In fact, TREAT is an expansion
on the Drug Addiction Treatment Act of 2000 (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services
Administration 2017). This less rigid scheduling is what makes buprenorphine the ideal medication
for opioid treatment. TREAT is optimal because it also opens availability to physicians to take on
more patients. Initially, after being qualified for prescribing buprenorphine, physicians can only
give these prescriptions to up to thirty patients. After the first year, one can qualify for one hundred
instead (Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions 2016). That is a minimal
amount that, if increased, could slow opioid addiction trends.
Buprenorphine is not living up to its full potential. It could be treating many more cases, and
TREAT helps to enforce that. It is measured that approximately 850,000 people are being treated
for opioid addiction with buprenorphine in 2016. This number could potentially be increased by
1.5 million people if they had access to it (Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and
Pensions 2016). If only 850,000 are being treated out of a possible 1.5 million, then there are
650,000 people who could be receiving

The Cedar Fire
Abigail Beinke
2/20/16
Research Paper
It was on October 21, 2003 at 5:37 pm that the nightmare started. A wildfire, The Cedar Fire ,
spread rapidly in the Cleveland National Forest. Communication systems were destroyed and
houses burned to the ground. The fire was contained on November 4, 2003.
It is said that the wildfire was caused by a lost hunter. His name was Sergio Martinez. He is from
Redlands, California. Before starting the fire, he was following his hunter buddy, Ronald
Adkins, until they got separated at 10 a.m. that morning. He lied at first and said he shot his rifle
before laying down to rest in hopes to draw attention. Sergio Martinez then confessed he lit two
small signal fires which later turned into fourteen separate fires. He wanted to improve his
chances of being found. The fire he started was to be a signal fire and one to keep him warm.
But as minutes passed, the fire grew out of control. The fire started near San Diego but Martinez
was found in Cold Water Canyon in Beverly Hills, California one week later. He claims he was
doing what he learned in his hunter safety course back in 2002.
Much damage was done to homes, families, and personal belongings. Martinez said the following
statement in the courtroom, I would like to apologize to all the people who lost loved ones, family

Because of this, they did not have enough firefighters when the Cedar Fire started, which was the
biggest of all the California fires at that time. At the start of the Cedar Fire, they set up two
command centers. This resulted in confusion, which slowed down the battling of the blaze. These
command centers were merged into one a short time later. The command centers did not initially
accept a request for 25 additional fire engines until it became obvious that homes were about to
burn. On the initial night of the fire,

Assignment On Object Oriented Programming
TITLE PAGE
COP 3330 OBJECT ORIENTED PROGRAMMING
NAME: DEVARSHI PATEL
PID: 392427
DATE: OCTOBER 25, 2016
Doing the research about the object oriented programming on online and also while being enrolled
in this class I have learned so many new things about computer concepts, background and its
languages throughout this fall semester. Which I would like to use and share that information I
learned about object oriented programming languages in this research paper. Even while looking
more depth on online about object oriented languages, I got excited to learn more and more about
different computer languages. In this research, I would share what object oriented means, and also
describe two languages of Object oriented programming particularly I would use Java and C++ to
compare and contrast while using their background information about each language of Java and
C++ of an object oriented programming language.
First of all, let me begin with Object oriented programming. Object oriented programming is a
type of a computer programming language in which begin with the basic concept of an object.
Where to object is characterized by its states and behavior. The state is basically information
about object known about itself and behavior is an action that object can do or react. For
example, if you meet a new person the state is a name, address, height, weight, and so on and its
behavior of a person can be speaking, read, write, run, walk, swim, jump, and so on. Objects are

The producers deliberately set out to make new trends for teenagers, even releasing a Clueless inspired line of Barbie dolls, and these efforts were wildly successfully. The main character, Cher is 15 going on 16 years old. She is a spoiled, socially successful, high class snob who, after undergoing a crisis brought on by their own pride and repression of their feelings, are transformed from callowness to mental and emotional maturity. Clueless is an interesting social experiment. But, at the same time, the film is a satire on the very people it was marketed to. • 3. Weight Loss And Extreme Diets How many time has someone started a popular weight loss diet and it either didn t work, or the results didn t last long before the weight loss came right back? In America now, there are over 30 states that have 25% or more of the adults and children that are overweight or obese (Cleveland State University, 2013, p. 217). Since the beginning of this obesity epidemic, the risk of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases have increased over the years (Cordain, 2011, pp. 5 7). This results in new fad dietsthat are introduced to the media every year and soon after, everyone is trying it out to lose those pounds fast. These fad diets don t usually entail lifestyle changes, rather they suggest a quick fix to a person s weight lossproblem. There are weight loss supplements and extreme diets that cut out one or more food groups entirely. This can make it difficult for most people to stick with. One of these diets suggests that if we pick up the eating lifestyle of our Paleolithic ancestors, we could become as healthy and fit as they were millions of years ago (Cordain, 2011, p. 6). This Paleo diet was first thought of by Dr. S. Boyd Eaton and Melvin Konner in the mid 1980 s when they did primary research into what our ancestors ate and what affects this diet would have on current Homo sapiens (Frassetto, Schloetter, Mietus Synder, Morris, Sebastian, 2009). They found that the ideal diet [is] found in the nutritional practices of our Stone Age ancestors (Cordain, 2011, p. 4). At ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Power of Conformity Essay The Power of Conformity Conformity refers to an individual s behavior that is performed because of group pressure, even though that pressure might not involve a direct request. Many people want to think that they are conformist enough so that they are not looked upon as strange to others and nonconformist enough to demonstrate that they are capable of thinking by themselves. For many years, psychologists have been interested in human conformity. Usually when people are in groups, they behave according to how those in the group behave. That indicates that conformity can affect a person s behavior and make a person do things that may be against their ethics, attitudes, and morals. The study of ... An experimenter held up one of the cards and the subjects had to match on of the lines with the single line. For the first two cards, the seven matched the two pairs on lines correctly. The eighth subject answered correctly as well. On the third pair of cards, the seven subjects answered wrong to see if the eighth subject would conform or answer correctly. Asch found out that 75% of the subjects conformed at least once in the trials, but not one person conformed every time. The other 25% did not conform with any of the groups decisions. Some of the experiments had the subjects write down their answer so the line lengths could be accurately judged. In these experiments, 98% of the real subjects answered correctly. Asch found out many things from the experiment. Some of the findings are social support, attraction and commitment to the group, size of the group, and sex. Asch did the same experiment with a slight variation. He changed the answers of the seven subjects so that one of them always gave the right answer. This comforted the real subject and only 5% of the subjects agreed with the group answer. This social support experiment showed that if one person gives the same answer then a person feels more comfortable. Also, other experiments showed that the more attracted and committed ... Analysis Of Del Monte s Magazine Advertisements Tamara Duvall Dr. Cerise Meyers Introduction to Art March 26, 2017 It s Time to Refresh A healthy diet that includes fruit is important, as it increases your energy leaving you feeling refreshed. The artist of this Del Monte image captures the idea of refreshment in this magazine advertisement for Del Monte s new fruit cups called Fruit Refreshers. The first thing that grabs your attention in this advertisement is how the image jumps off the page at you in vibrant detail. The negative space is in black giving the focal point the ability to capture it s audience s attention the way the fruit cup, centered on the page, is tipped and surrounded by a splash of liquid like the cup has been tossed into a pool of water. In the upper left corner is the phrase, It s Time to REFRESH! This simple sentence makes a powerful statement of direction, inviting you to try their new product. • 6. Television And Internet News Programs News or Nonsense Television and internet news programs have began to stray away from a strictly informative report of current happenings to vague, non factually based entertainment stories. This is a direct result of society s desire to worry about everyone s feelings. In the past, viewers passionately desired accurate information and statistics on the nation s current events. As of now, a different generation of viewers and new s providers bestow the supply and demand of news stories based on emotions, rather than fact. With extremist groups becoming increasingly popular the demand for highly biased news is snowballing. New s corporations like FOX capitalize on this by providing news that is consistently biased to one point of view. Having a one sided production such as FOX creates a type of animosity between them and their competition. This seems rather childish, making these top tier new companies look like a joke. In result, a viewer will struggle to find a new s broadcast that provides more than a couple of relevant stories based on factual information. Instead, the bulk of content is displayed in a look at me, feel bad for me, or look at them format. From this, the broadcasters work at the heart strings of their viewers. They get the viewer to invest emotion into a story, creating a reaction and desire to hear, see, and feel more. Given the response, broadcasters see interest in emotionally based stories skyrocket and interest in factually based stories ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Conflict In Sundiata Conflicts are sometimes destructive, but perhaps they teach a lesson. They are a source of quarreling, ridicule, and sometimes motivation to reflect on oneself. Conflict in one s life is also a source of personal growth and learning. Every conflict in life, no matter how small or seemingly insignificant, shapes a person s character. In the Mali epic Sundiata, the main character, Sundiata, experiences many conflicts in his life. The conflicts with his family, his physical body, and himself help to transform his character from a boy with few abilities to a capable young man. Physical disabilities can be crippling. Some disabilities can be overcome, but no matter what effect they leave physically, they have lasting effects on character. Sundiata... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Judgments and attitudes expressed towards a person can either motivate them or demolish their self esteem. From the moment Sundiata was born, every step of the way at every major developmental milestone, NarГ© Maghan s first wife constantly ridiculed Sundiata and his mother for his lack of abilities, looks, and overall development. She even called him a ` lion that crawls on the ground` (129). This mocking continued for years. The acidulous remarks must have made him self conscious in some way, which might have encouraged him to walk. Not only were the over wives derisive, but also Sundiata s own mother was cynical in her attitude towards him. Sassouma mocked Sogolon for not having a son that could get leaves from a tree for her, Sogolon hit him with a wooden board, fed up with his selfishness and showing no interest in walking (132). When Sundiata offered to get her leaves or even the entire tree, then asked for the iron bar, one can infer that a change in his character occurred either from feeling ashamed he let down his mother or from his mother nagging him to walk. Either way, the relationships with his family and their bullying caused him to make the decision to walk, which was a massive leap forward in his development as a character. It meant he finally showed a desire to walk, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Developmental Life Cycle Theory The family developmental and life cycle theory is the studying of families, which include stages that the family move through based on life experiences, that are usually predictable depending on the stage they are in (Kaakinen, Coehlo, Steele, Tabacco, Hanson, 2015). There are nine tasks that families must accomplish in order for the familyto achieve well being. In this discussion board post, I will be discussing task two, which is financing childbearing and child rearing. Having children, whether planned or not, produces additional expenses for a family that some may not be prepared for. While parents don t immediately think about long term cost when raising a child, it is shown that raising a child in American from birth to age 17, is over $241,080, and this number is expected to increase every year Covert, 2013). It is estimated that over 15 million children are living in povertyin the United States. These families encounter an imbalance in their education, health care, and socioeconomic resources (Milteer, Ginsburg, Mulligan, 2012). • 11. Alexander Hamilton Advantages And Disadvantages Alexander Hamilton Hamilton was man who had everything going against him since the beginning. Unlike many of the other Founding Fathers, he did not have a privileged background. Hamilton was the only founder born outside the American colonies. He was an immigrant who had many disadvantages early on. Instead of settling for an unremarkable life, he did not let them stopped his ambition. His disadvantages only fueled his ambition. He was a smart man who was always in the pursuit of honor. Always outspoken and fearless, Hamilton transformed our country. It did not took him long when he came to the colonists to make an impression. He was an advocate for revolution since the beginning and was destined to become a hero of the American Revolution. After the Revolutionary War was over, he was the most important supporter of the Constitution which he defended in the Federalist Papers. This made him key in the ratification of the Constitution. As Secretary of Treasury, he became the architect of the country s financial system. It took effort and a lot of writing but he was able to complete his very unlikely path to greatness. The life of one of the most influential individuals in American history began in 1755 on the island Nevis in the British West Indies. In this tiny tropical island in the Caribbean was where he came into this world at the very bottom of the social order. He was a bastard illegitimate, because his mother was not legally married to his father. As a result, he was prohibited from attending a Christian school, and had no rights of inheritance. When he was ten, his family moved to St. Croix, where hundreds of plantations worked by slaves produce sugar and coffee for export. His Scottish born father, James A. Hamilton, came to the West Indies with the ambition to make a fortune in the sugar trade, but was never successful. Soon after they arrive on St. Croix, his father abandoned the family. He would never see his father again. Only about two years later at the age of thirteen his mother, Rachel Faucette, died of yellow fever. Faucette s small estate went all to her first husband, Hamilton only kept the books. He loved reading and took advantage of these books and the knowledge stored in them. ... Since I arrived in the United States one of the first concepts that was introduced to me was the concept of plagiarism and the severity of its consequences. Since that moment I see myself focusing much more on paraphrasing and not committing plagiarism than the quality of the ideas that I am writing. However, I have noted that most of my ideas and opinions are probably based on somebody else s work I might have read before. Therefore, is it not plagiarism? In the article Intertextuality and the Discourse Community, James E. Porter challenges the ideaof what plagiarism truly is. He states that it is almost impossible to write without committing some sort of plagiarism. Instead, Porter introduces the concept of intertextuality, which he... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What he describes as originality is to take somebody else s ideas and create new perspectives and opinions based on those points of view. In other words, Porter suggests that creativity is a matter of interpretation and that anything we write is the result of what we interpret when we read. That is why taking other s ideas to draw knew opinions should not be called plagiarism because inevitable all writing contains some sort of intertextuality. One can say that intertextuality is necessary for a writer to have a better understanding of what they read. As an international student myself, paraphrasing is one of the aspects that turns writing into a nightmare for me. Since my vocabulary is somewhat reduced, I have to focus more on making my sentences look as different as possible to the original texts. I was so scared of committing plagiarism that I did not even consider the aspect of using the author s ideas and creating my own opinions. Instead I preferred to follow the norm and paraphrase as much as possible. Sometimes I felt my professors paid much more attention to what I might have plagiarized rather than the quality of my own ideas. That is why writing turned into a systematic process in which I would only have to know how to rephrase sentences and I would be fine. Her 87 full years of living a life that most of us couldn t imagine are what gives Mother Teresa quotes such weight. Whether you are religious or not, her experiences in life made her a wise woman. The following Mother Teresa quotes on life are good reminders of how to live each day. 1. Create Better Relationships If you judge people, you have no time to love them. When was the last time you judged someone? Today? Probably! As humans we are built with the capability to judge others to an inch of their life. But, we judge them based on our opinions and beliefs, not on the truth. We don t know what others are thinking. We don t know what makes them do what they do or what their intentions really are. So why do we judge? Mother Teresa was focused on loving other people, and she understand that judging took away the capability to love. If you are too busy pointing a finger at other people, you can t stop and feel connected to them in any way. Instead, you feel repelled by them, which puts a distance in between the two of you. In other words, instead of judging people, make your time about loving them for who they are and you will develop stronger relationships. 2. This essay intends to examine various aspects of this subject, along with critical opinion. This play ranks near the top. The Bard s presentation of emotions, character, of good and evil actions that are down to earth these are sometimes seen as the main reasons for the high ranking of Othello. Louis B. Indeed, the disappearance of Desdemona from home would seem as such to an elderly father. Human wisdom is obvious again and again; for example, when the senator escorts the general to the council, the duke addresses the valiant Othello without even noticing the senator at first: I did not see you. Welcome, gentle signior. As Othello begins his address before council, he employs much wisdom in the first two verses: Most potent, grave, and reverend signiors, / My very noble, and approved good masters, by being as complimentary as possible, it would seem. Shakespeare s human wisdom no doubt comes partially from his understanding of the workings of man s mind. He possesses the ability to analyze in a psychological manner. Harry Levin s General Introduction to The Riverside Shakespeare includes these comments regarding the psychological aspect of Shakespeare s characters: During the later eighteenth and most of the nineteenth century, Shakespeare s interpreters practiced what Bernard Shaw liked to call Bardolatry. It s mainly about a drug lord that owns the land of opium that is placed in the United states. To me there were a lot of slow parts and it felt like there were almost two parts of the book. Most of the slow parts were in the first part of the bookwhen Matt was gradually figuring out everything and I just thought they didn t have to stretch it out so much. One half of the book is about Matt and what happens when he lives in the land of Opium. It goes on about how he got there and how he was treated and who were his friends and enemies. Additionally when he is there he learns about El Patron and his true intentions. Then the other half of the book is about Matt in Aztlan, which is like where Mexico is, and who he finds and what happens to him over there. The one thing I did like in this book was the characters and how different they were, Celia was Matt s care taker and the author gave her the homey feeling which was portrayed very well. The other character I really liked was Tam Lin, to me he became very well developed over time. There is many other characters though like Maria and Steven and Tom who all live in Opium. The significance of this theme is conveyed through Sophocles and Shakespeare s usage of dialog, characterization, and symbolism. To start, Sophocles and Shakespeare utilize dialog to illustrate the theme of exile within their respective works. Attempting to ease Oedipus s mind by convincing him that he has nothing to fear in the predictions of the oracles, Jocasta gives the ironic example of the plot to kill her own infant son to avoid a similar prophecy. Sophocles dialog for Jocasta states, But Laius,/ so the report goes at least, was killed by strangers,/ thieves, at a place where three roads meet ... [M]y son / he wasn t three days old and the boy s father / fastened his ankles, had a henchman fling him away on a barren, trackless mountain./ There, you see? (787 793). Although exile, or at least the threat of exile, is prevalently addressed within the dialog of both works, Jocasta s rashness to murder her child is jarring, even more so due to the inappropriately comforting tone with which Jocasta retrospects on such a sinister deed. Likewise, King Lear responds irrationally when he promptly arranges a marriage for Cordelia to the King of France after Cordelia admits that she loves her father only to the extent that it is appropriate for a daughter to love her father. For both men and women, there is an inverse exponential relationship between the speed of the athlete and the event distance. This trend shows a logical relationship because as the distance of a race increases, the athletes are going to be slower because running for a longer amount of time requires energy to be conserved. In order to develop an equation which represents this relationship, I am going to graph the speed of each athlete against the log of their distance. Because this is an exponential relationship, the log of x is proportional to speed. This means that when log of distance is plotted along the x axis, a linear trend will be produced. Once these points are plotted, I will calculate a regression line using linear regression. Motivation And Management Theory Of Motivation Essay In order to understand motivation in an organization and how it affects its employees and management we must first understand what exactly motivation is. Motivation in an organization encourages employees to work efficiently and in the best interest of the company; as the manager of an organization one should start looking into why or how motivationis established. An organization will not be as successful if their employees are unmotivated and they will likely have a high turnover rate. The unique advantage of this technique is high spatial resolution of the image, short acquisition time, good sensitivity and signal enhancement of approximately two order of magnitudes. The significant contrast to noise ratio obtained by this technique at very low magnetic fields for 1H based MRI detection (l10 mT) compared to the routinely used MRI systems that operate at fields 11 T makes OMRI advantageous in obtaining physiological information. OMRI seems to be one of the most promising method for protease activity imaging for mainly two reasons. First, it can provide high contrasts and 3D well resolved images as seen recently on tumor bearing mice [8]. Furthermore the involvement of a free radical is favorable to molecular imaging since the free electron is very sensitive to various changes in its environment: redox status [9], pH, molecular rotational correlation time ... • 44. The Success Of Canadian Banks Essay Introduction Canadian Banks has never attracted that much of attention of the whole world until the subprime meltdown in 2007/2008. Canada was the only G7 country that did not have a government bank bailout. Canadian banks remained profitable through the crisis. A World Economic Forum report ranked Canada first among 134 countries on the soundness of its banks. This paper aims to analyze persuasive reasons for the remarkable success of Canadian Banks in the subprime meltdown. Regulations have been set before the crisis. However, different countries implementations are different in practice. The main arguments of this paper are related to the number characters , leverage ratio and return of equity/asset (R O E/R O A). Using empirical data of these ratios in different banks in Canada and America lead the paper to several soundness conclusions. Background In 2008, subprime financial crisis started from the United State of America, soon the whole global economic are shaken by this crisis. However, Canadian bank industry survived from this crisis surprisingly. How could Canadian banks survive the subprime meltdown in 2008? She thought men always got the to be the hero in things, they were always honored, rather than women. She felt that they shouldn t get all the attention, and always talk about themselves. She wanted people to talk more about women being the hero, and women being honored. Virginia woolfwas a important author in the 20th century because of her feminist views. She was born on January 25th, 1882 in Kensington, United Kingdom. She was a english writer in the 20th century, she is considered one of the most modern writers of that time. Her father was a journalist, and had a large library. Even though she wasn t allowed a education like males, she made the best of the library and educated herself. She died on March 28th, 1941 by drowning herself. She put rocks in her coat pockets and then went into a river by her home. • 47. The Effects Of Substance Abuse Opiate abuse in the United States is an epidemic. It is argued whether addiction is being handled correctly, and if the amount of resources for combating addiction should be increased. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, The number of past year heroin users in the United States nearly doubled between 2005 and 2012, from 380,000 to 670,000 (2014). This nation wide increase of heroinabusers leads to another issue: how to treat them. One method of treatment is giving them another medication to treat the cravings, it is called an agonist medication. One of the more prominent of these medications is buprenorphine, brand name Suboxone or Subutex. It is known as a partial receptor because its effects on opioid receptors is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Along with this, buprenorphine itself is difficult to overdose on when used properly and is shown to have milder withdrawal effects than other opioids (Jones 2004). This makes it an attractive option to those who are unable to see their physician very regularly. In fact, TREAT is an expansion on the Drug Addiction Treatment Act of 2000 (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration 2017). This less rigid scheduling is what makes buprenorphine the ideal medication for opioid treatment. TREAT is optimal because it also opens availability to physicians to take on more patients. Initially, after being qualified for prescribing buprenorphine, physicians can only give these prescriptions to up to thirty patients. After the first year, one can qualify for one hundred instead (Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions 2016). That is a minimal amount that, if increased, could slow opioid addiction trends. Buprenorphine is not living up to its full potential. It could be treating many more cases, and TREAT helps to enforce that. It is measured that approximately 850,000 people are being treated for opioid addiction with buprenorphine in 2016. This number could potentially be increased by 1.5 million people if they had access to it (Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions 2016). If only 850,000 are being treated out of a possible 1.5 million, then there are 650,000 people who could be receiving ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. The Cedar Fire Abigail Beinke 2/20/16 Research Paper It was on October 21, 2003 at 5:37 pm that the nightmare started. A wildfire, The Cedar Fire , spread rapidly in the Cleveland National Forest. Communication systems were destroyed and houses burned to the ground. The fire was contained on November 4, 2003. It is said that the wildfire was caused by a lost hunter. His name was Sergio Martinez. He is from Redlands, California. Before starting the fire, he was following his hunter buddy, Ronald Adkins, until they got separated at 10 a.m. that morning. He lied at first and said he shot his rifle before laying down to rest in hopes to draw attention. Sergio Martinez then confessed he lit two small signal fires which later turned into fourteen separate fires. He wanted to improve his chances of being found. The fire he started was to be a signal fire and one to keep him warm. But as minutes passed, the fire grew out of control. The fire started near San Diego but Martinez was found in Cold Water Canyon in Beverly Hills, California one week later. He claims he was doing what he learned in his hunter safety course back in 2002. Much damage was done to homes, families, and personal belongings. Martinez said the following statement in the courtroom, I would like to apologize to all the people who lost loved ones, family ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the start of the Cedar Fire, they set up two command centers. This resulted in confusion, which slowed down the battling of the blaze. These command centers were merged into one a short time later. The command centers did not initially accept a request for 25 additional fire engines until it became obvious that homes were about to burn. On the initial night of the fire, ... • 49. Assignment On Object Oriented Programming TITLE PAGE COP 3330 OBJECT ORIENTED PROGRAMMING NAME: DEVARSHI PATEL PID: 392427 DATE: OCTOBER 25, 2016 Doing the research about the object oriented programming on online and also while being enrolled in this class I have learned so many new things about computer concepts, background and its languages throughout this fall semester. Which I would like to use and share that information I learned about object oriented programming languages in this research paper. Even while looking more depth on online about object oriented languages, I got excited to learn more and more about different computer languages. In this research, I would share what object oriented means, and also describe two languages of Object oriented programming particularly I would use Java and C++ to compare and contrast while using their background information about each language of Java and C++ of an object oriented programming language. First of all, let me begin with Object oriented programming. Object oriented programming is a type of a computer programming language in which begin with the basic concept of an object. Where to object is characterized by its states and behavior. The state is basically information about object known about itself and behavior is an action that object can do or react. For example, if you meet a new person the state is a name, address, height, weight, and so on and its behavior of a person can be speaking, read, write, run, walk, swim, jump, and so on. Objects are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
