Who Is Louis Riel National Hero
Louis Riel was a national hero, especially to the Métis of Canada. He defended his people, the Métis,
and their rights by creating Le Comité National des Métis and the provisional government at Fort
Garry. He showed the Canadian government that he is not a joke with the execution of Thomas Scott.
He contributed to the creation and government placed in Manitoba with the Manitoba Act. And he also
left, coming back with a new view and to attempt a peaceful negotiation.
Louis Riel went against the Prime Minister, John A. MacDonald, to get the Métis people the rights
they deserved. He seized Fort Garry with the National Committee of Métis as their leader. He did this
to set an example and show MacDonald just what he is capable of. Riel set up a provisional
government to replace the committee with himself as the leader, after refusing to take money to join
the USA. This is where the Métis wrote their List of Rights. Which were brought to MacDonald but
promptly ignored. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some of them escaped, so Riel sent more men to retrieve them. He had to make sure his people were
happy and not think of the casualties. Schultz escaped, but they did capture one Thomas Scott. Scott
insulted and attacked the guards while jailed and threatened to escape and kill Riel many times. The
people eventually were tired and scared of him so they consulted Riel. He decided to try him with the
Métis military council, used for the buffalo hunt. They tried him guilty for insubordination. He was
shot by a Métis firing squad; this caused an uprising of mixed opinions in Ontario and Quebec. This
put MacDonald in a very difficult place, giving Riel some satisfaction that he had put his opposition

Prohibition Of The Former Flint Brewery Building
Ralph sits in the Pere Marquette rail depot in Flint, fidgeting with the lose button on his overcoat, and
looking down at his shabby brown shoes. The morning sun is low and catches dust in its light as it
shines through the windows. His eyes dart to the door every time it opens. He is expecting a cop to
walk in at any moment. He is getting desperate and would look suspicious if it wasn t for his overall
gentle appearance. He gets up and checks the time tables for the fourth time and debates if he should
inquire why the train is late. He walks to the window and watches the congregation gathering outside
the Lakeview Methodist Episcopal Church, which ironically is housed in the former Flint Brewery
building and has been since 1915, when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Walking that morning, something in Smith Bridgman s Co store window caught his eye, in the display
where a pair of red alligator skin shoes. These shoes intoxicated him and without a second thought
Ralph went in to buy them. The salesman said that they were one of a kind, sure to be the only pair in
Flint. Ralph paid cash for the shoes and as store policy directed, a sales recite including Ralphs name
and address was retained in the men s departments as a record of sale.
Ralph had gotten home and put the shoes on. They were a size to large and without question the nicest
thing he had ever owned. Ralph needed to deliverer some gin to a house around noon and was excited
to wear the new shoes out. Though he had never done a delivery before, he had sold to this guy plenty
of times at Atwood. He packaged up the gin and headed out just before noon to travel the few blocks
to the customer s house wearing the new red shoes.
About a block from the house Ralph saw the two foot patrol cops step out of Alvord s Market. They
waited for him to pass then flowed behind him. Ralph was worried but talked himself down. He had
packaged the gin to look like bread and the house was just around the corner, besides he didn t
recognize them and they likely didn t recognize him. He got to the house and went through the gate
and around to the side door and knocked; no answer. He knocked again and stepped back to make sure
the cops had passed. They were standing just

American Baseball League
Baseball was, is and always will be to me the best game in the world. (Babe Ruth) Baseball is one of
America s favorite pastimes, with an avid following created around players and teams. Our
enthusiasm for baseball is also shared with other countries where baseball has spread. Japan and the
Dominican Republic both have professional baseball leagues. One of the ways these international
leagues work together is the exchange of players. This business has brought many foreign league
players to the United States. Within this exchange have been controversies about the ethicacy of the
player s payments and contracts. In the country where baseball is the most popular, even some of
migrant players get mistreated. In this paper, I will look at the ... Show more content on

The first American baseball league was created, with help from the soldiers in the Civil War, creating
the National Association of Base Ball Players. From here, baseball in American only continued to
grow. As the popularity of baseball slowly emerged, more news stories turned away from cricket to
watch the growth of a new sport. At this time, only white men can be part of these teams, a the same
time, women could still not vote. Many countries didn t even have women s leagues until fairly
recently. Today, there are two major baseball leagues in America, the National league and the
American League, each with 15 teams. In 2014, Major League Baseball raked in 9 billion dollars in
revenue. The American baseball craze has propelled the sales of tickets, gear, and merchandise, upon
which teams are capitalizing. Baseball has also evolved with our society. Before segregation was
banned, there were separate teams for African Americans. The leagues these teams played under were
called the Negro Leagues . Negro Leagues were first established alongside other white leagues at the
beginning of American baseball. Segregated teams and leagues continued until the early 1950 s,

Romantic Love Story
Many people would want to hear about a romantic story of a girl and boy falling in love and living
happily ever after but in this case I decided to talk about a relationship that does have a happily ever
after but with a twist. I will be talking about a love relationship in the show pretty little liars between
the characters Emily and Allison. Emily is one of the main characters in the show and she is 23 years
old and works as a swim team coach, Alison is the main character of the show and she is also 23 years
old and she works at rosewood high school as an English teacher. Before they were in a romantic
relationship they started off as best friends in highschool with 3 other girls in the circle. The history of
their relationship goes all the way back to the first season in the show, where Emily is struggling with
her identity and can t express her feelings for Alison because of the fear of people knowing she is into
girls, Alison and Emily are in the library together and Emily makes a move but Allison does not
respond instead she leads her on. One thing we need to understand about this relationship is Alison
was not such a great person in highschool she was hated by everyone because of how rude and evil
she was but as I get further into this relationship she does change and become a better person. In high
school Alison was declared dead by the whole town and Emily was the most heart broken out of all
the girls, her and her friends were trapped in a barn fire and but she was

Pathway Of Igf-1 Pathway
The insulin/IGF 1 pathway which plays a major role in the control of lifespan and aging in animals
and humans includes a lot of genes if any gene transformed with single mutation the IGF 1 pathway
can increase lifespan and cause human longevity to remain active and youthful much longer than
normal. As in different species, yeast, nematodes and fruit flies there are genes homologous with
mammalian genes that control in IGF 1 pathway and mutation in any one of them may be affected on
lifespan (Tatar et al., 2003). In the study of model organisms, it was found that the IGF 1 pathway
consists of ligands, receptors, insulin receptor substrates, phosphoinositol 3 kinase (PI3K) system,
AKT kinases, and forkhead transcriptional factors.

These pathways are more complex than invertebrate. Mutations that in GH deficiency or in growth
hormone receptors cause decreased size, lower insulin levels, increased stress resistance and extend
lifespan (Bartke, 2008). Whereas GH is mediated through IGF 1 and effect on lifespan in these mice
may be mediated by this pathway. Heterozygous deletion mutations of the IGF 1 receptor (IGF1R)
gene causes a little reduction in size but a similar phenotype of improved stress resistance and
longevity in females only (Holzenberger et al., 2003). But in dogs, there is no evidence that IGF 1
signaling regulates lifespan because dog breeds have a strong inverse correlation with body size
(Patronek et al., 1997). Derangement of the insulin receptor (INSR) gene in most tissues leads to
insulin resistance and shortened lifespan in mice (Okamoto and Accili, 2003); but homozygous
deletion mutation in this gene specific to fat cells have the extended lifespan in both sexes (Bluher et
al., 2003). These results indicate that tissue specific effects are important for these pathways. Where a
knockout of the downstream signaling adapter protein (IRS1) also resulted in increased lifespan
(Selman et al., 2008).
There are several mechanisms demonstrated that the IGF 1 may affect aging with DAF 16/FOXO
which stimulates the transcription of heat shock protein genes that related to stress resistance (Murphy
et al., 2003). Moreover, FOXO3A gene can operate as a checkpoint on cell cycle

Children With Suspected Childhood Apraxia Of Speech
Introduction
Child hood Apraxia of Speech is a motor speech disorder that affects children s ability to say sounds,
syllables, and words. The brain has trouble coordinating muscle movements that are needed for
speech. The child knows exactly what to speak, but the brain has trouble coordinating the muscle
movements. It is different for every person that has this type of disorder. In some other cases, it can be
an unknown cause, meaning it can happen out of the blue, or by mutations. One of the articles is based
off of reliability and validity testing and scoring by the Dynamic Evaluation of Motor Speech Skills,
while the other has different assessments that were tested and transcribed.
First Summary of Article One
In the article, Differential Diagnosis of Children with Suspected Childhood Apraxia of Speech , the
authors describe the signs of a child having Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS). If a child is
suspected of having CAS, here are a few symptoms that can occur, shifting errors on consonants and
vowels in repetitive syllables and sounds, incorrect prosody, and interrupted articulatory between
sounds and syllables. (Murray, McCabe, Heard, Ballard, 2015, p.44). A tool that is used to identify
CAS is a Strands 10 point checklist. (Shriberg, Potter, Strand, 2012). This is a checklist that contains
10 segmental and suprasegmental structures. Authors say that this checklist doesn t lead to an exact
assessment, but authors rely on it (Strand, McCauley, Weigand,

Along the way, spending patterns will shift significantly as discretionary purchases capture a majority
of consumer spending. The study also suggest that if india can achieve 7.3 percent annual growth a
reasonable assumption if economic reforms continue consumer spending will quadruple from about 17
trillion rupees($3.72 billion) in 2005 to 70 trillion rupees in 2025. The dramatic growth in India s
middle class from 50 million(5% of population) to 583 million people(41% of population), will power
the surge. Spending patterns will shift dramatically as expenditures grow rapidly from personal
products to consumer electronics. The middle class will dominate the cities as three quarters of India s
urbanities will be part of the middle class compared with just one tenth today. For many companies
the sheer scale of this middle class will ensure that it receives significant attention. Companies also
should t underestimate the market presented by the country s most affluent consumers : those earning
$21,890 a year in 2000 dollar terms, or $117,650 in terms of PPP. That group will total 24 million in
2025, more than the current population of Australia. By that year too, India s affluent class will be

Ebola Emergency Response Strategy Analysis
Ebola Emergency Response Strategy
Introduction
Community is an interconnected group of persons living in a given locality. Communities have
identical social pattern. Public health awareness is an aggregate obligation of the entire society. Ebola
can be managed by the assertion that the community holds that they are together and have been hit by
a common catastrophe (Winkworth 5). Community can be organised into well defined groups in order
as to achieve the health objective. The use of Laveracks approach therefore is a reliable strategic
approach, which can be used to implement community health programs in the fight of Ebola.
Laverack s strategic approach
Laverack developed a five continuum of community empowerment. These continuums have, however,
been widely used in Australia during emergency times, where they proved effective. They include:
personal action, small groups, community organization, partnership and social and political action
(Laverack 63). The continuums are built on the basis of community empowerment. The continuums
can be used effectively in the management of Ebola by ensuring participation of every element in the
community in ascending order. Ebola is a lethal pandemic, it requires an efficient strategy built from
the basic foundation of the community and therefore the bottom up built on Laveracks approach is
more effective as discussed below.
Personal action
Laverack described the approach of personal action as the building of greater sense of

Okay, so Oedipus was destined to kill his father. In order to stop that from happening, his parents sent
him to a faraway land. However, when Oedipus grew up, he went back to where he was born and
decided to kill the king and marry the queen. Little did he know that those were his biological parents
that he killed and bewedded.

On the Development of Quantum Computers and Cryptography
On the Development of Quantum Computers and Cryptography
In 2010, the United States government, after accessing encrypted files by means of physical
intervention, exposed ten Russian sleeper agents; in 2013, the United States government, without any
means of physical intervention, surreptitiously collected and promptly decrypted many previously
encrypted (Wood). Within this decade, concerns regarding the dubious security of contemporary
cryptography will begin to emerge as the secrets of quantum computing quickly unravel. Companies
that rely on Moore s law, which asserts that computing power doubles every eighteen months, to
justify using the theoretically weak cryptography scheme known as RSA will succumb to the risks

These individuals cite a three qubit impasse, which states that because quantum computers have not
become more complex than three qubits, they will not become more complex than three qubits. From
the start of serious research in 2001 up until recently, this argument had remained tenable. But, the
human endeavor to create technological advancements would not relent. This drive proved itself as
successful in 2012, when D Wave Systems, a quantum computing company founded in 1999,
announced that their work on a 512 qubit quantum computer had concluded. D Wave then went on to
state that they would computer would reveal the computer later that year, albeit with a limited range of
abilities. Since then, companies such as Google and the National Aeronautics and Space Association
(NASA) have begun to work in conjunction with D Wave to improve upon their prototype and apply
them to calculations to discover new potential. Nevertheless, dogmatic advocates for RSA hold the
proposition that their point still stands as these do not count as full fledged quantum computers. With
the progression of time, the development of quantum computers will do as it has already done once
and relegate the power of the three qubit impasse to a continually smaller role.
While RSA performs its final show, a new system débuts. Praised by some as unbreakable, they call
the method Quantum Key Distribution, (QKD) and in it lies

The Pros And Cons Of Minority Groups
One of the main reasons for a state to be created would be the protection of the people who live in it,
therefore, one of a state s main concerns should be the security of its citizens, especially in dealing
with threats, whether they are traditional or non traditional. Every day, lives are put at peril when these
threats are not dealt with properly.
Sadly, human rights and the issues connected to it are often disregarded as something that is less
important, especially when compared to issues such as arms proliferation or territorial integrity or the
strategic interests of a state. That is to say, not that these issues are not critically important as well.
However, the world would be a much better place if in dealing with each other and accommodating ...

However, what to do if the majority is hostile towards the minority? Minority groups should have the
same rights and protection as the majority group. However, this is often not the case. Either it is
because more members from the majority group are represented in positions of decision making, or
either it is out of fear of upsetting members of the majority group, the minority groups in a state are
often put at disadvantage with their rights at least partially lessened. Although constitutions and laws
may demand for equality, the truth is not always so sweet. In fact, in many states across the
international stage, minorities are rarely a member of the government, especially if there already is a
prejudice or social jealousy towards these groups. However, representation and political rights would
be the least of concerns when one considers that some minority groups are so oppressed that they have
to face the threat of violence daily. The dilemma for the government is that many are not capable of
doing a decent job at protecting the minorities of their nation since it can possibly upset the majority
group, other than having to spend time and resources

Finishing Hardwood Floors
Hardwood floor can be finished using high power sanding machines, although some handwork may be
necessary in places that on which a sanding machine will not fit, or near corners. Before starting the
finishing process, the hardwood surface should be free of dirt and all nails must be carefully driven so
they are not protruding in the floor or the baseboard. Depending on the hardwood flooring surface,
sometimes with two sanding cuts, you will get a nice finish whatsoever, if the floor is uneven, then
three sanding cuts will be needed.
Hardwood Flooring Sanding Machines
There are two main types of sanding machines: drum or disk type. Drum sanders have the sandpaper
mounted on a drum that rotates parallel to the plane of the floor, scratching in straight lines in the
direction of the sanding machine. On the other hand, disk sanders are the ones in which the sandpaper
rotates in a circle in the plane of the floor. There are different tools that will facilitate sanding
hardwood floor near the edges of the floor and next to the baseboard.
Choosing the right sandpaper is a very important thing to do, because coarse grits will scratch the
hardwood leaving some marks that will be noticeable. Fine grits are better when you want to have the
best finishing on a hardwood flooring, although it will require additional work. For better results, start
by using the coarse sandpaper, to level the floor and continue to polish the surface using finer
sandpaper.

Muhammad Ali s Stand Against The Vietnam War
Intro:
Muhammad Ali s Stand against the Vietnam War was a game changer for many people and shocked
everyone, everywhere when word got out. This topic of Muhammad Ali V. the Vietnam War is
relevant to the theme of Taking a Stand , because it showed that he was very courageous and also
showed how much faith Ali had in the Nation of Islam to take a stand against not only the United
States, but against the Vietnam War. The topic is important because it showed that if there s a will,
there s a way and that you can take a stand against anything you want if you are determined enough,
no matter the consequences. He stood up for himself and for his religion to show that the you can take
a stand if you really believe that it is worth it and you a real reason.

On July 4, 1865 in Savannah, Georgia, the 22nd Iowa mustered out of federal service after a reading

of this explicitly patriotic commemoration of the new improved United States: the encapsulation of
the Republican ideal of the conflict as a struggle to reassert the promise of the Revolution, Taylor

The Importance Of Police Officers
In recent years, law enforcement in America has been criticized for its use of excessive force. While
the abuse of power is not a new phenomenon, the rise of readily available cameras in the pockets of
the majority of citizens has lead to more of these instances being captured on video. This has lead to
an increasingly high level of distrust of law enforcement from the general public, especially from
minorities. Perhaps an issue generated from this distrust, many officers have been accused of using
excessive force; unfortunately, it s difficult to tell whether or not the allegations are true or not. One
debated solution to this issue is to require on duty police officers to wear body cameras (body cams).
These cameras would be mounted to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So far, I have mentioned the benefits body cameras would give police officers, but the safety these
cameras bring law enforcement and the general public is a mutually beneficial. Since police officers
are aware that their actions are being filmed, it is within their best interest to behave professionally.
This would reduce police officer s use of excessive violence since the likelihood of being reprimanded
for misconduct would increase as a result of the video evidence. In a study on the effectiveness of
police officer body cameras, Ariel et al. report a 93% before after reduction in complaint incidence.
However, the footage from body cams could carry other benefits.
In addition to increasing safety, body cameras provide material for training and evaluation. The
footage from body cameras could be used to train police officers, giving a visual demonstration on
what to do and what not to do. Furthermore, researchers at Washington State University are looking
into how to improve police training with the use of body cam footage (Aumen). These researchers
plan to use the camera data to design algorithms and new software in order to achieve more objective
and holistic descriptions of police community interactions (Aumen). This means that, in the near
future, footage from body cameras would be able to further improve the quality of police officer
training due to more advanced information collecting methods than are currently available.

Reflection Paper On Sight Words
In order to assist Rose in achieving 30/50 sight words I have created a fun interactive activity for her.
For the reason, that Rose is extremely active and loves to move around I incorporated movement into
the intervention lesson plan. The lesson is geared to help Rose learn her sight words by being an active
participant and creating her own dance move for each sight word, she is shown. I believe that by Rose,
creating a dance move to a sight word will allow her to feel in control and at the same time, she is
learning her words. During the process, Rose will be able to visually see the word, say the word, think
about the word, and create a move for the word, which will allow her to begin automatically knowing
her sight words and ultimately learning them. Through repletion and daily practice, I believe Rose can
achieve her the goal of learning 30/50 sight words. Iris shyness is getting in the way of her learning.
The lack of participation and involvement has caused her to fall behind in mastering her phonological

Human Cloning Essay
Imagine a future where humans are manufactured, a future where humans are created by science, a
future where humans are the new lab specimen. Human cloning is like opening Pandora s Box,
unleashing a torrent of potential evils but at the same time bringing a small seed of hope. No matter
how many potential medical and scientific benefits could be made possible by human cloning, it is
unethical to clone humans. Before the ethics of human cloning can be discussed, the mechanics of
cloning must be understood first. Cloning is the process of making an exact genetic copy of an
organism by a method called nuclear transplantation which is a process of removing a nucleus (the
center of a cell which contains all of the biological information) ... Show more content on

Human cloning is not always copying and creating a full organism; that is reproductive cloning.
Cloning just an organ or tissue is called therapeutic cloning, and is a technology that is not possible
yet but scientists feel that it is only a matter of time (Tierney). With that technology, many patients
could be cured of previously life long conditions such as paralysis, chronic heart attacks, and
leukemia. A long term disease such as infertility could be cured as well by creating a clone of the
female and then transplanting that clone s eggs into the female and then the children the couple has
will be their biological children! Even amputees could have limbs regenerated in a lab and reattached
(Smith). These medical advances seem like a cure all, but they are not possible at the moment because
we do not know enough about the human genome to see which genes code for certain proteins which
shape the function of the cell. With our current technology, we cannot direct a cell to specialize into a
kidney cell to transplant into a patient needing a new kidney. Current technology doesn t allow for the
creation of spare parts but it is possible to create fully functional humans (after many attempts), and
then the human that was created could then be grown and disemboweled for spare parts (Dudley 30).
The idea of creating a Caliban or a human specifically to act

Eye-Opening Lessons Learned In Alex Haley s Popular Book
In 1977, the television miniseries Roots first aired on ABC. It was based of Alex Haley s popular book
released in 1976. The story is about Alex Haley s ancestors, tracing all the way to Africa. It starts with
a teenage boy, Kunta Kinte, who was born in Gambia in West Africa. When Kunta is looking for some
wood to make a drum, he gets captured and that is when the long adventure begins. There were three
really eye opening lessons I learned about slavery: the boat ride to American was painful and most did
not survive, slaves were not allowed to read or write, and after the Civil War and slaves were free,
they were still treated badly and still not considered equal. First, coming to America on the slave ship
was an awful ordeal. When Captain Thomas Davies saw the slave ship blueprints, the horrors started
to sink in. The slaves were chained up and squeezed in tight for maximum profit. They were put under
the deck and got sea sick alot. Workers on the ship would also rape the female slaves for pleasure. One
time, Captain Thomas Davies was in his cabin and Mr Slater came in and offered him a female slave
for pleasure. The female slave looked horrified and Captain Thomas Davies refused to take her
because he was a married christian man. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Analysis Of Maud A Monodrama By Alfred Lord Tennyson
Maud: A Monodrama is the lengthy poem that dominated the first collection published by Alfred, Lord
Tennyson after he became poet laureate. In its rich and romantic symbolism, it is characteristic of the
great poet s work. Notable, also, is its critique of the hypocrisy and other social failings of Victorian
Britain. Maud became one of the best known poems of the period, and continued to be influential even
after its style became dated.
!!!Tennyson and Maud
[{Image src= rossetti_tennysonmaud.jpg alt= Tennyson reading from Maud, 1855 }]
Alfred, Lord Tennyson was a favorite poet of generations. Made Poet Laureate of Great Britain by
Queen Victoria, he dominated the literary scene during his time. He also came for better and for worse
to represent that generation s taste, both during his life and after it. Tennyson s rich __Victorian
language__ can seem daunting to modern readers. In reading Maud , it s a good idea to just embrace
the exaggerated concepts. Experimental in style, laden with intense symbolism, and full of __social
criticism__, Maud was not a popular poem at first, despite its author s status. Tennyson himself was
proud of the work, and retaliated against criticism by reading it aloud whenever he could. Reportedly,
this won over many critics due to the beauty of the poem s language.
!!! Maud : A Summary
It s easy to just concentrate on the ornate language of Maud , but there s a lot of drama in the narrative
of the poem. There

Language And Bias In Language
Language and Bias In New York City, hundreds of languages have been spoken everyday on the street
as a grand representation that we live in a multilingual society. However, within the multilingual
society minority language is often deemed as not useful due to the cultural, social and economical
advantages that dominant language is able to bring along with it. This explains that why some of
second generation immigrants are unable to speak in their heritage language, because they or their
parents hold this belief. Also, this kind of attitude can be even found in the classroom. According to
Mallinson, Professor of Language, Literacy, and Culture, from University of Maryland and Hudley,
Associate Professor of Education, English, and Linguistics from College of William Mary, study
suggests that teachers might subconsciously or consciously favor students who talk like them and
judge negatively toward students who doesn t. This would discourage that students from different
language background to speak, crate linguistic insecurity and ultimately affect their academic
performance (2017). Additionally, Minority languages could face challenges related to governmental
power. During the Francisco Franco era, the dictator banned the Catalan language from speaking in
public. Because the dictator wanted to create a Spanish centralized nation. Prominent Catalan figures
were prosecuted; Catalan language in the public education system was suppressed. As a result,

The North Carolina Museum Of Art
The North Carolina Museum of Art (NCMA) holds many works of art from all types of cultures from
around the world. The Torso of an Emperor in the Guise of Jupiter from Roman culture and the Torso
of Aphrodite from Greek culture, are but two of them. It is unknown who the artist was for either of
them, but the work has lived on for centuries. During the time period the gods were known for their
perfection like body and extraordinary looks. Since the sculptures highlight only the torso of the body
it represents that only image matters and the brain does not.
The Torso of an Emperor in the Guise of Jupiter was made during the first century with marble.
Standing at 56 ½ x 29 ½ x 15 ½ inches. The statue depicts a torso of an emperor s body with the torso
completely exposed and a sheet that could be assumed as a toga (typical clothing during the time
period) covering the lower part of the body. People worshipped the gods and many stories, still told
today marvel of the complete and utter perfection that the gods were graced with. The artist shows
detail directly in the toga to make precise cuts from the marble to show value and create a life like
atmosphere. With the chest and torso area you can clearly see that the man was fit with no fat in sight,
only muscle. The form of the work uses diagonal lines throughout the toga to imply movement
upward towards the chest. The lines point upward causing your eyes to look toward the emperor s

Superhero-Personal Narrative
I was preparing to destroy myself. I left my room, seeking out my closest relatives to bid farewell. I
had resolved to come clean to reveal my true identity. I was no superhero; just a terrified boy hoping
to finally accept himself. The secret I had harbored so easily for years was finally consuming me. I
was forced upon the brink of self loathing: a single moment away from losing what little confidence it
had taken me 17 years to muster. The words choked me. My mind swelled. A flood of insecurities
launched a last ditch effort to preserve my so called identity. I could back down; I could save myself; I
could return to the safety of my own deception. But as I plummeted into that smothering abyss, I knew
that I must act. And so I resisted. And so I confessed. And so I spoke. Mom...Dad...I m a writer. Oh

INTRODUCTION
The question most firefighters have, Are trusses with no gusset plates as safe as trusses with gusset
plates while being exposed to a fire?
Pre engineered wood trusses are designed by truss engineers for light weight construction. The use of
metal plate connected trusses in construction is popular because of cost effectiveness, versatility, and
ease of construction. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, the metal truss plate reflects some of the heat away from the wood slowing down the charring
process.
The disadvantages of a metal gusset plate s behavior while being exposed to extreme heat conditions
from a fire include th fact that the galvanized metal gusset plate s teeth do not penetrate the wood all
that deep. The wood the plates are connecting, have a charring rate of 1/40 inch per minute. The truss
plate s teeth have a minimum depth of 3/8 inch. So during a typical fire, the wood will lose 3/8 inch of
its body in approximately 15 minutes leaving the teeth of the metal truss plate completely exposed.
This will then cause the metal truss plate to fall off allowing that joint to lose its integrity. Once a joint
on a truss is compromised, the weight it previously carried will be transferred to the next closest
joints. These joints in return can not carry the additional load while being exposed to the fire causing
them to lose their integrity resulting in a complete failure of the truss assembly. Whereas, the adhesive
used for the glued finger jointed truss will maintain its structural integrity longer than the truss
members.
Another disadvantage of the metal gusset plate is that a gap up to 1/8 of an inch is allowable. This gap
between members of the truss system members will allow heat and flame to get to the back side of the
metal gusset. When this happens, the wood member will char deeper and faster thus causing less of

Praise Of Bill Peters, Coach Of The Carolina Hurricanes
In Praise of Bill Peters
Now firmly into his third season as a head coach in the NHL, Bill Peters, coach of the Carolina
Hurricanes, has a lot of work in front of him to get this team into post season contention. Through his
first two years with the organization, Peters is still yet to participate in the playoffs. In fact, it has been
seven years since Carolina last saw the playoffs.
Peters current lack of post season success shouldn t be an immediate point for concern, as he came
into the team during a major recession in terms of team talent. Most notably offensive stars Alexander
Semin and Eric Staal both had major drops in terms of point production during Peters first two
seasons, both see their way out of Carolina.
It appears though for this season the pieces are beginning to fall into place for Peters vision of this
team. Their level of play over the past few games has been as high as it has ever been in recent years,
as the team as a whole is able to play effectively in all ends.
This quick turnover time shouldn t come as a shock to anyone given Bill Peters outstanding
performances behind the bench for other teams.

Poverty And Natural Beauty In The Country Of Venezuela
Venezuela is a country of natural beauty and full of natural resources. Its levels of raw materials and
the diversity of its people, makes of Venezuela a beautiful country in South America and around the
world. According to the Venezuelan Government website, Venezuelan history goes back 15,000 to
5.000 years before our era. But the real history begins in the 1400s when Christopher Columbus
became the first Spanish explorer to touch the Venezuelan lands in 1498 (Oberhelman, ph2). Follow
by Spanish conquer Alonso de Ojeda who actually gave the country its name, Venezuela became
another conquered country with so much hiding treasures not known to the world yet. The country

Theme Of Religion In Cry The Beloved Country
How can one make so many mistakes in life and still be forgiven as if they did not do anything
wrong? In the novel Cry, The Beloved Country by Alan Paton, religion was an important point
throughout the whole novel. The main character, Stephen Kumalo, who simply goes by Kumalo, was a
black South African priest who revolved his life around his family and God. There had been many
times in Kumalo s life where his feelings and actions had been the results of devoting his life to God.
Paton continually mentioned the importance of faith in this book and what it meant to each of the
characters present. One of the main ideas in this novel was the journey Kumalo took in order to
overcome the challenges he had faced. The obstacles he was presented with included finding his
daughter and his son. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During Kumalo s journey, his connection with God was shown through the spiritual dimensions of the
land. His main goal was to find his family and get them back together; the land of South Africa
showed him that life needed to be changed and as once Kumalo returned to Ndotsheni with his family,
the land was a work in progress. An agricultural demonstrator came into town and was preparing to
improve life at Ndotsheni. By these events taking place, God was answering Kumalo s prayers by
getting his family back together and upgrading the land. Through the tragic events of Absalom
committing murder and asking for forgiveness, his prayers were somewhat answered. The white man
he murdered was committed to helping the natives and trying to get everyone to be equal. The father
of the dead man carried on his legacy by contributing to the redeveloping of the land for the natives.
Absalom s prayers were answered by the white family still giving back to the natives. In America
today, has God made such impacts with people who are constantly praying for his help or for

Teague, honey? Are you sure you don t want to go? I m certain all your friends will be there too, and

would be at this stupid dance of his school s, so he wasn t too concerned about any obstacles.
He sat up and scootched to the edge of his bed, sighing deeply as he considered the course of actions

The Power of Personality in Toni Cade Bambara s The Lesson
Developing character is something that comes with time. I believe that there are three major things
that effect how people develop their character where they are from, which includes their financial
status; how they are raised; and the character of the people that have had the most influence on their
lives. Sylvia, in Toni Cade Bambara s The Lesson, is very much influenced by all of these factors.

infrequently throughout the story, do not seem to have too much involvement with their daughter. This
is represented in Sylvia s behavior, for example, when she wants to steal Ms. Moore s cab money and
run to the bar b que. Although most of Sylvia s actions are conceivably wrong, it would be
inappropriate to blame her solely for her mistakes. It is impossible for any child to understand what is
right or wrong if it was never defined for him/her. Sylvia was probably not disciplines growing up and
so her judgment of what is right or wrong is based on her own opinions and her observations of what
the other children in her neighborhood are doing.

Pathophysiology of Diabetes Mellitus
Pathophysiology of Diabetes Mellitus
Diabetes Mellitus is a group of metabolic diseases. The body is unable to produce or absorb sufficient
amounts of insulin. This causes elevated levels of glucose in the blood. The pancreas normally
produces insulin which regulates the level of glucose in the blood as 1)well as how it s used. Glucose
is vital to your health because it s an important source of energy for the cells that make up your
muscles and tissues. It s also your brain s main source of fuel (mayoclinic.org/ 2014).
The endocrine pancreas is filled with the islets of Langerhan. These islets, or regions of the pancreas,
are clusters of cells, which each islet containing 3,000 to 4,000 cells. Scientists estimate there are ...

However, the dysfunction here is in the cells that are receiving the message from the insulin (Dr.
Andrew Wolf, You Tube Pathophysiology of Diabetes Mellitus). As stated by Dr. Wolf, the most
current theory is that those persons having high levels of fatty acids circulating in their blood causes a
high level of inflammatory cytokines hormones in the blood. These block or interfere with this
messenger system. Thus, glucose cannot get into the cell. The result is a high blood glucose level
which stimulates the beta cells to make more insulin. However, as the problem continues, extra insulin
is produced by the overworked beta cells over time and some of these cells are destroyed. You then
have Type 2 Diabetes. If this condition isn t corrected by diet and lifestyle changes, the disease will
get worse. Higher and higher levels of glucose will eventually kill off all the beta cells and you will
now have a Type 2 Diabetic who is insulin dependent. If there is a persistent consumption of glucose
and hyper processed foods, our cells change by reducing the number of receptors on their surfaces to
respond to insulin (Perlmutter,2013). Perlmutter(2013) notes that there is cell desensitization to insulin
which causes a condition called insulin resistances. Then the cells can ignore the insulin and there is a
failure to retrieve glucose from the blood. More and more insulin is now pumped out by the pancreas
so that much higher levels become

  • 2. Who Is Louis Riel National Hero Louis Riel was a national hero, especially to the Métis of Canada. He defended his people, the Métis, and their rights by creating Le Comité National des Métis and the provisional government at Fort Garry. He showed the Canadian government that he is not a joke with the execution of Thomas Scott. He contributed to the creation and government placed in Manitoba with the Manitoba Act. And he also left, coming back with a new view and to attempt a peaceful negotiation. Louis Riel went against the Prime Minister, John A. MacDonald, to get the Métis people the rights they deserved. He seized Fort Garry with the National Committee of Métis as their leader. He did this to set an example and show MacDonald just what he is capable of. Riel set up a provisional government to replace the committee with himself as the leader, after refusing to take money to join the USA. This is where the Métis wrote their List of Rights. Which were brought to MacDonald but promptly ignored. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some of them escaped, so Riel sent more men to retrieve them. He had to make sure his people were happy and not think of the casualties. Schultz escaped, but they did capture one Thomas Scott. Scott insulted and attacked the guards while jailed and threatened to escape and kill Riel many times. The people eventually were tired and scared of him so they consulted Riel. He decided to try him with the Métis military council, used for the buffalo hunt. They tried him guilty for insubordination. He was shot by a Métis firing squad; this caused an uprising of mixed opinions in Ontario and Quebec. This put MacDonald in a very difficult place, giving Riel some satisfaction that he had put his opposition off his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Prohibition Of The Former Flint Brewery Building Ralph sits in the Pere Marquette rail depot in Flint, fidgeting with the lose button on his overcoat, and looking down at his shabby brown shoes. The morning sun is low and catches dust in its light as it shines through the windows. His eyes dart to the door every time it opens. He is expecting a cop to walk in at any moment. He is getting desperate and would look suspicious if it wasn t for his overall gentle appearance. He gets up and checks the time tables for the fourth time and debates if he should inquire why the train is late. He walks to the window and watches the congregation gathering outside the Lakeview Methodist Episcopal Church, which ironically is housed in the former Flint Brewery building and has been since 1915, when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Walking that morning, something in Smith Bridgman s Co store window caught his eye, in the display where a pair of red alligator skin shoes. These shoes intoxicated him and without a second thought Ralph went in to buy them. The salesman said that they were one of a kind, sure to be the only pair in Flint. Ralph paid cash for the shoes and as store policy directed, a sales recite including Ralphs name and address was retained in the men s departments as a record of sale. Ralph had gotten home and put the shoes on. They were a size to large and without question the nicest thing he had ever owned. Ralph needed to deliverer some gin to a house around noon and was excited to wear the new shoes out. Though he had never done a delivery before, he had sold to this guy plenty of times at Atwood. He packaged up the gin and headed out just before noon to travel the few blocks to the customer s house wearing the new red shoes. About a block from the house Ralph saw the two foot patrol cops step out of Alvord s Market. They waited for him to pass then flowed behind him. Ralph was worried but talked himself down. He had packaged the gin to look like bread and the house was just around the corner, besides he didn t recognize them and they likely didn t recognize him. He got to the house and went through the gate and around to the side door and knocked; no answer. He knocked again and stepped back to make sure the cops had passed. They were standing just ... • 4. American Baseball League Baseball was, is and always will be to me the best game in the world. (Babe Ruth) Baseball is one of America s favorite pastimes, with an avid following created around players and teams. Our enthusiasm for baseball is also shared with other countries where baseball has spread. Japan and the Dominican Republic both have professional baseball leagues. One of the ways these international leagues work together is the exchange of players. This business has brought many foreign league players to the United States. Within this exchange have been controversies about the ethicacy of the player s payments and contracts. In the country where baseball is the most popular, even some of migrant players get mistreated. In this paper, I will look at the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first American baseball league was created, with help from the soldiers in the Civil War, creating the National Association of Base Ball Players. From here, baseball in American only continued to grow. As the popularity of baseball slowly emerged, more news stories turned away from cricket to watch the growth of a new sport. At this time, only white men can be part of these teams, a the same time, women could still not vote. Many countries didn t even have women s leagues until fairly recently. Today, there are two major baseball leagues in America, the National league and the American League, each with 15 teams. In 2014, Major League Baseball raked in 9 billion dollars in revenue. The American baseball craze has propelled the sales of tickets, gear, and merchandise, upon which teams are capitalizing. Baseball has also evolved with our society. Before segregation was banned, there were separate teams for African Americans. The leagues these teams played under were called the Negro Leagues . Negro Leagues were first established alongside other white leagues at the beginning of American baseball. Segregated teams and leagues continued until the early 1950 s, ... Romantic Love Story Many people would want to hear about a romantic story of a girl and boy falling in love and living happily ever after but in this case I decided to talk about a relationship that does have a happily ever after but with a twist. I will be talking about a love relationship in the show pretty little liars between the characters Emily and Allison. Emily is one of the main characters in the show and she is 23 years old and works as a swim team coach, Alison is the main character of the show and she is also 23 years old and she works at rosewood high school as an English teacher. Before they were in a romantic relationship they started off as best friends in highschool with 3 other girls in the circle. The history of their relationship goes all the way back to the first season in the show, where Emily is struggling with her identity and can t express her feelings for Alison because of the fear of people knowing she is into girls, Alison and Emily are in the library together and Emily makes a move but Allison does not respond instead she leads her on. One thing we need to understand about this relationship is Alison was not such a great person in highschool she was hated by everyone because of how rude and evil she was but as I get further into this relationship she does change and become a better person. In high school Alison was declared dead by the whole town and Emily was the most heart broken out of all the girls, her and her friends were trapped in a barn fire and but she was ... • 6. Pathway Of Igf-1 Pathway The insulin/IGF 1 pathway which plays a major role in the control of lifespan and aging in animals and humans includes a lot of genes if any gene transformed with single mutation the IGF 1 pathway can increase lifespan and cause human longevity to remain active and youthful much longer than normal. As in different species, yeast, nematodes and fruit flies there are genes homologous with mammalian genes that control in IGF 1 pathway and mutation in any one of them may be affected on lifespan (Tatar et al., 2003). In the study of model organisms, it was found that the IGF 1 pathway consists of ligands, receptors, insulin receptor substrates, phosphoinositol 3 kinase (PI3K) system, AKT kinases, and forkhead transcriptional factors. Much of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These pathways are more complex than invertebrate. Mutations that in GH deficiency or in growth hormone receptors cause decreased size, lower insulin levels, increased stress resistance and extend lifespan (Bartke, 2008). Whereas GH is mediated through IGF 1 and effect on lifespan in these mice may be mediated by this pathway. Heterozygous deletion mutations of the IGF 1 receptor (IGF1R) gene causes a little reduction in size but a similar phenotype of improved stress resistance and longevity in females only (Holzenberger et al., 2003). But in dogs, there is no evidence that IGF 1 signaling regulates lifespan because dog breeds have a strong inverse correlation with body size (Patronek et al., 1997). Derangement of the insulin receptor (INSR) gene in most tissues leads to insulin resistance and shortened lifespan in mice (Okamoto and Accili, 2003); but homozygous deletion mutation in this gene specific to fat cells have the extended lifespan in both sexes (Bluher et al., 2003). These results indicate that tissue specific effects are important for these pathways. Where a knockout of the downstream signaling adapter protein (IRS1) also resulted in increased lifespan (Selman et al., 2008). There are several mechanisms demonstrated that the IGF 1 may affect aging with DAF 16/FOXO which stimulates the transcription of heat shock protein genes that related to stress resistance (Murphy et al., 2003). • 7. Children With Suspected Childhood Apraxia Of Speech Introduction Child hood Apraxia of Speech is a motor speech disorder that affects children s ability to say sounds, syllables, and words. The brain has trouble coordinating muscle movements that are needed for speech. The child knows exactly what to speak, but the brain has trouble coordinating the muscle movements. It is different for every person that has this type of disorder. In some other cases, it can be an unknown cause, meaning it can happen out of the blue, or by mutations. One of the articles is based off of reliability and validity testing and scoring by the Dynamic Evaluation of Motor Speech Skills, while the other has different assessments that were tested and transcribed. First Summary of Article One In the article, Differential Diagnosis of Children with Suspected Childhood Apraxia of Speech , the authors describe the signs of a child having Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS). If a child is suspected of having CAS, here are a few symptoms that can occur, shifting errors on consonants and vowels in repetitive syllables and sounds, incorrect prosody, and interrupted articulatory between sounds and syllables. (Murray, McCabe, Heard, Ballard, 2015, p.44). A tool that is used to identify CAS is a Strands 10 point checklist. (Shriberg, Potter, Strand, 2012). • 9. Ebola Emergency Response Strategy Analysis Ebola Emergency Response Strategy Introduction Community is an interconnected group of persons living in a given locality. Communities have identical social pattern. Public health awareness is an aggregate obligation of the entire society. Ebola can be managed by the assertion that the community holds that they are together and have been hit by a common catastrophe (Winkworth 5). Community can be organised into well defined groups in order as to achieve the health objective. The use of Laveracks approach therefore is a reliable strategic approach, which can be used to implement community health programs in the fight of Ebola. Laverack s strategic approach Laverack developed a five continuum of community empowerment. These continuums have, however, been widely used in Australia during emergency times, where they proved effective. They include: personal action, small groups, community organization, partnership and social and political action (Laverack 63). The continuums are built on the basis of community empowerment. The continuums can be used effectively in the management of Ebola by ensuring participation of every element in the community in ascending order. Ebola is a lethal pandemic, it requires an efficient strategy built from the basic foundation of the community and therefore the bottom up built on Laveracks approach is more effective as discussed below. These individuals cite a three qubit impasse, which states that because quantum computers have not become more complex than three qubits, they will not become more complex than three qubits. From the start of serious research in 2001 up until recently, this argument had remained tenable. But, the human endeavor to create technological advancements would not relent. This drive proved itself as successful in 2012, when D Wave Systems, a quantum computing company founded in 1999, announced that their work on a 512 qubit quantum computer had concluded. D Wave then went on to state that they would computer would reveal the computer later that year, albeit with a limited range of abilities. Every day, lives are put at peril when these threats are not dealt with properly. Sadly, human rights and the issues connected to it are often disregarded as something that is less important, especially when compared to issues such as arms proliferation or territorial integrity or the strategic interests of a state. In fact, in many states across the international stage, minorities are rarely a member of the government, especially if there already is a prejudice or social jealousy towards these groups. Finishing Hardwood Floors Hardwood floor can be finished using high power sanding machines, although some handwork may be necessary in places that on which a sanding machine will not fit, or near corners. Before starting the finishing process, the hardwood surface should be free of dirt and all nails must be carefully driven so they are not protruding in the floor or the baseboard. Depending on the hardwood flooring surface, sometimes with two sanding cuts, you will get a nice finish whatsoever, if the floor is uneven, then three sanding cuts will be needed. Hardwood Flooring Sanding Machines There are two main types of sanding machines: drum or disk type. Drum sanders have the sandpaper mounted on a drum that rotates parallel to the plane of the floor, scratching in straight lines in the direction of the sanding machine. On the other hand, disk sanders are the ones in which the sandpaper rotates in a circle in the plane of the floor. There are different tools that will facilitate sanding hardwood floor near the edges of the floor and next to the baseboard. Choosing the right sandpaper is a very important thing to do, because coarse grits will scratch the hardwood leaving some marks that will be noticeable. I was no superhero; just a terrified boy hoping to finally accept himself. The secret I had harbored so easily for years was finally consuming me. I was forced upon the brink of self loathing: a single moment away from losing what little confidence it had taken me 17 years to muster. The words choked me. My mind swelled. A flood of insecurities launched a last ditch effort to preserve my so called identity. I could back down; I could save myself; I could return to the safety of my own deception. Fire Load Performance Characteristics Of Metal 4 White Paper: Fire Load Performance Characteristics of Metal Gusset Plate Trusses vs. Finger Joint Glued Trusses St White Paper: Fire Load Performance Characteristics of Metal Gusset Plate Trusses vs. Finger Joint Glued Trusses Prepared by: Bracken Engineering, Inc. 2701 West Busch Blvd., Suite 200 Tampa, Florida 33618 April 2017 INTRODUCTION The question most firefighters have, Are trusses with no gusset plates as safe as trusses with gusset plates while being exposed to a fire? Pre engineered wood trusses are designed by truss engineers for light weight construction. The use of metal plate connected trusses in construction is popular because of cost effectiveness, versatility, and ease of construction. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also, the metal truss plate reflects some of the heat away from the wood slowing down the charring process. The disadvantages of a metal gusset plate s behavior while being exposed to extreme heat conditions from a fire include th fact that the galvanized metal gusset plate s teeth do not penetrate the wood all that deep. The wood the plates are connecting, have a charring rate of 1/40 inch per minute. The truss plate s teeth have a minimum depth of 3/8 inch. So during a typical fire, the wood will lose 3/8 inch of its body in approximately 15 minutes leaving the teeth of the metal truss plate completely exposed.
  • 30. This will then cause the metal truss plate to fall off allowing that joint to lose its integrity. Once a joint on a truss is compromised, the weight it previously carried will be transferred to the next closest joints. These joints in return can not carry the additional load while being exposed to the fire causing them to lose their integrity resulting in a complete failure of the truss assembly. Whereas, the adhesive used for the glued finger jointed truss will maintain its structural integrity longer than the truss members. Another disadvantage of the metal gusset plate is that a gap up to 1/8 of an inch is allowable. This gap between members of the truss system members will allow heat and flame to get to the back side of the metal gusset. When this happens, the wood member will char deeper and faster thus causing less of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Praise Of Bill Peters, Coach Of The Carolina Hurricanes In Praise of Bill Peters Now firmly into his third season as a head coach in the NHL, Bill Peters, coach of the Carolina Hurricanes, has a lot of work in front of him to get this team into post season contention. Through his first two years with the organization, Peters is still yet to participate in the playoffs. In fact, it has been seven years since Carolina last saw the playoffs. Peters current lack of post season success shouldn t be an immediate point for concern, as he came into the team during a major recession in terms of team talent. Most notably offensive stars Alexander Semin and Eric Staal both had major drops in terms of point production during Peters first two seasons, both see their way out of Carolina. It appears though for this season the pieces are beginning to fall into place for Peters vision of this team. Their level of play over the past few games has been as high as it has ever been in recent years, as the team as a whole is able to play effectively in all ends. This quick turnover time shouldn t come as a shock to anyone given Bill Peters outstanding performances behind the bench for other teams. Spokane Chiefs Bill Peters first major coaching job came in Major Junior as an assistant coach for the Spokane Chiefs of the WHL. In the novel Cry, The Beloved Country by Alan Paton, religion was an important point throughout the whole novel. The main character, Stephen Kumalo, who simply goes by Kumalo, was a black South African priest who revolved his life around his family and God. There had been many times in Kumalo s life where his feelings and actions had been the results of devoting his life to God. Paton continually mentioned the importance of faith in this book and what it meant to each of the characters present. One of the main ideas in this novel was the journey Kumalo took in order to overcome the challenges he had faced. The obstacles he was presented with included finding his daughter and his son. ... I believe that there are three major things that effect how people develop their character where they are from, which includes their financial status; how they are raised; and the character of the people that have had the most influence on their lives. Sylvia, in Toni Cade Bambara s The Lesson, is very much influenced by all of these factors. Sylvia s living in the slums and being poor makes her defensive and judgmental. Her parents not being around much leaves her without the attention and discipline that children need to develop to their fullest. The problem though, is that Sylvia s parents are always in a la de da apartment up the block having a good ole time, probably partying. This is represented in Sylvia s behavior, for example, when she wants to steal Ms. Moore s cab money and run to the bar b que. Although most of Sylvia s actions are conceivably wrong, it would be inappropriate to blame her solely for her mistakes. It is impossible for any child to understand what is right or wrong if it was never defined for him/her. • 38. Pathophysiology of Diabetes Mellitus Pathophysiology of Diabetes Mellitus Diabetes Mellitus is a group of metabolic diseases. The body is unable to produce or absorb sufficient amounts of insulin. This causes elevated levels of glucose in the blood. The pancreas normally produces insulin which regulates the level of glucose in the blood as 1)well as how it s used. Glucose is vital to your health because it s an important source of energy for the cells that make up your muscles and tissues. It s also your brain s main source of fuel (mayoclinic.org/ 2014). The endocrine pancreas is filled with the islets of Langerhan. These islets, or regions of the pancreas, are clusters of cells, which each islet containing 3,000 to 4,000 cells. Scientists estimate there are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the dysfunction here is in the cells that are receiving the message from the insulin (Dr. Andrew Wolf, You Tube Pathophysiology of Diabetes Mellitus). As stated by Dr. Wolf, the most current theory is that those persons having high levels of fatty acids circulating in their blood causes a high level of inflammatory cytokines hormones in the blood. These block or interfere with this messenger system. Thus, glucose cannot get into the cell. The result is a high blood glucose level which stimulates the beta cells to make more insulin. However, as the problem continues, extra insulin is produced by the overworked beta cells over time and some of these cells are destroyed. You then have Type 2 Diabetes. If this condition isn t corrected by diet and lifestyle changes, the disease will get worse. Higher and higher levels of glucose will eventually kill off all the beta cells and you will now have a Type 2 Diabetic who is insulin dependent. If there is a persistent consumption of glucose and hyper processed foods, our cells change by reducing the number of receptors on their surfaces to respond to insulin (Perlmutter,2013). Perlmutter(2013) notes that there is cell desensitization to insulin which causes a condition called insulin resistances. Then the cells can ignore the insulin and there is a failure to retrieve glucose from the blood. More and more insulin is now pumped out by the pancreas so that much higher levels become ...
