The Chemical Earth Research Paper
Anna McNamara Year 11 Chemistry, Mr Thomson Chemistry Assessment: The Chemical Earth Gather
information from secondary sources to distinguish the physical properties of metals and nonmetals.
The key differences between metals and nonmetals are the physical properties which simply outlines
the specific metal and nonmetal subdivision. In some cases semimetals or metalloids have a
combination of properties which could classify them as being metals and nonmetals, hence the name
semimetals. These properties include: lustre; solubility in water; state; melting point; boiling point;
density; malleability; and conductivity. Most metals are often; appear shiny; insoluble in water; solid

The strength of this metal is medium and which provides a relatively strong frame and structure but
also allows for crumple zones to work effectively in a car accident. The percentage of Metal A in the
earth s crust is 7.5, which is quite common. This metal needs to be common due to the amount of cars
which are sought for worldwide. The reactivity of Metal A shows no obvious reactions with water or
damp air which allows people to drive cars in rain or humid weather. This metals reaction with acid is
slow and irrelevant to the usage of the material for these purposes. These properties allow Metal A to

A Constitutional Amendment For Women Essay
Into parliament. In Bangladesh there had been a provision, which expired in 2000, to reserve 10% of
seats for women in parliament. This expiry resulted in a dramatic decrease in the number of female
legislators. A constitutional amendment in 2001 extended women‟s reserved seats from 30 to 45 for a
period of 10 years. Prior to this, the reserved seats of 30 enacted in 1978 were about the only route for
women into parliament. In 1996, 11 or 3.6% of the seats in the first post the post system was won by
women. In 2001 this dropped to 6 or only 2% of the seats in parliament. In 2005, a law increased the
overall number of seats in parliament, and 45 of these were reserved for women. These were allocated
to political parties on the share of the national vote received in the elections, and the number of
women increased to 13% of the seats in the 2005 elections, and in 2008 this increased to 18.6%. In
Bangladesh, 19 women won out of the 300 constituency seats, to join 45 appointed women members.
The number of women holding ministerial portfolios has never exceeded 3%. As of 2009, nearly 80%
of parliamentary standing committees have no women. With the addition of the 45 reserved seats in
November 2009, women are now 14.8% of the total positions. Begum has commented: The mode of
nomination for reserving seats lies exclusively with political parties. A woman selected from the
reserved quota has to represent an area more than ten times larger than those of the general seats. The

Why I Should Be A Good Adult
It took me years to figure out what I wanted to be when I grow up. Truth be told I still don t know, and
don t ever plan too. Mostly because I cannot imagine becoming a true adult. I d have to do adult things
like return a sweater I didn t like or gardening. Gardening! I d have to spend hours upon hours toiling
in fields for plants that won t live to see spring! Or cooking, forbid it that I should ever enjoy cooking.
Half the time I mess up boiling water, and make macaroni solely from a microwave. I m still be afraid
of librarians and speaking to strangers. I intend to use Mickey Mouse band aids, color with crayons
and eat lucky charms until the day I m cold in my grave. I could never be a good adult.
Thus, it s easy to see how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is then I wonder how I even ended up in a job that requires one to be compassionate and charismatic
all the time. Those days when you can t seem to pull yourself out of a funk I remember. I remember
the little blonde head of a stubborn, talkative child. She never seems older than five and she is always,
always clutching a tiny Snow White doll. She has incandescently blue eyes and she smiles regardless
of what has happened. The kind of kid who can t seem to shut up and is friends with everyone.
However, she flips the sounds of her letters. She doesn t mind and it s kind of cute. It makes her name
turn from Kelsey to Telsee.
I remember the day she was more scared than she had ever been in her entire life.
I remember the long hallway that seemed to lead to nowhere deep within the recesses of a high school
in a now long forgotten building. How her tiny hands clutched to the doll as if it would save her from
whatever creature was on the other side of the door. I remember the panic she felt at being alone with
an adult she had never met. She dreamt up villains and monsters each more unlikely than the last, all
of whom had horns, and fangs, and terrified children everywhere. Without even the solace of her
mother, the girl marched on and her stubborn smile faded into a grimace as neared the door.
Yet, I

Taking a Look at the Suspension Bridge
The suspension bridge is a very popular type of bridge all over the world. It s hard to build but can be
built in a lot more places than an arch or beam bridge. Scientists do not know when it was invented.
They believe it was near the 15th century. Whom it was invented by is also unknown. A suspension
bridge can span distances from 2,000 to 7,000 feet, longer than any other type of bridge in the world.
It is a very unique bridge. A suspension bridge is a bridge with the weight of the deck supported by
cables suspended from larger cables that run between the towers. The main parts of a suspension
bridge are the towers, anchors, main cables, suspension cables, and the road way. It is one of the most
expensive bridges to build in the world. Suspension bridges are mainly made out of steel these days.
But some of them are made out of different things. A suspension bridge is very different from arch
bridges, even though there can be arch in a suspension bridge. The first suspension bridge in America
was in Niagara Falls, a beautiful waterfall in New York. The suspension bridge was abandoned and
never completed. Though, it still counts as the first suspension bridge. Suspension bridges can be built
in most places. You don t need a perfect flat surface to work on unlike some bridges. All you need are
the anchors and towers that touch the earth to keep it upright. What you do is, first, put in the anchors
(they cost the most money sometimes) then the main cables along with the

Essay On Congo Genocide
In the past, many incidents of genocide have occurred, like the Armenian genocide or the Rwandan
genocide. While these incidents may seem unrelated to current times, similar incidents are starting to
occur in many parts of the world and one such place is Congo. Many sources hint that the conflict that
occurs in Congo is a genocide because many elements of genocide appear in the conflict like
classification or dehumanization. While what they say has some truth in the sense that this conflict
contains some element of genocide but, not enough elements are present to make it a genocide.
Although many would believe that the conflict in Congo is a genocide, there is evidence of the
conflict being a territorial and power dispute because some countries invading Congo want the
resources, others want power, and the cause of the conflict in Congo is the aftermath of the Rwandan
genocide. First of all, the conflict in Congo is a territorial dispute because sources mention that the
people invading want access to Congo s plentiful resources. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Objects, such as the scaffold, were ritualistic symbols for such concepts as sin and penitence. A person
might wonder why Hawthorne uses his characters as symbols, and van Kirk would answer them, using
his characters as symbols, Hawthorne describes the grim underside of Page 2 Puritanism that lurks
beneath the public piety (91). Chillingworth is symbolized as the devil. From the very beginning of
the novel, it can be learned that Chillingworth seeks reveng we on whoever committed adultery with
his wife. Hawthorne proves this when Chillingworth says, It irks me nevertheless, that the partner of
her inequity should not, at least, stand on the scaffold by her side. But he will be known! he will be

The Not-So-Virgin Birth Of God
The Not So Virgin Birth of God by Mitchell Mallary
The Christian faith has truly never been freed from its bondage to Gnostic chains. Today we see
Gnosticism s manifestation in our dismal eschatology rather than adopting the early Church s hope for
the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come, the masses aspire to an ethereal bliss in
a heavenly beyond.
This misguided eschatology is merely a new form of an old Gnostic influence that has perennially
plagued Christian theology. The Church Fathers had to fight against Docetism the heretical belief that
Christ only appeared to be human, but was in fact merely a spirit or celestial being. Along with
Arianism and Nestorianism, these three heretical doctrines constituted ... Show more content on

For if we hold the conviction that the Bible s claims can only be true if they are in accord with history
and science, then something other than the Bible is the final authority the Enlightenment s invention of

A Christological Rethinking of the Virgin Birth
Even if there is a theo political basis for claiming Jesus was born of the Virgin Mary, this does not
mean that it is necessarily wrong. As mentioned above, it s even attested to in the Nicene Creed. But
what if there were a Christological reason for calling the virgin birth into question?
On the one hand, virgin birth theology has often served as a helpful explanatory tool for adherents to
what is commonly called two nature Christology the idea that Jesus was both fully God and fully
human. In a way (though I ve always thought it bore the stench of Nestorianism), it allowed
theologians the explanatory power to say how it was that the one person of Jesus was constituted by
two separate natures divine and human. But in the early Church s battle to stave off Arianism and
those who rejected the full divinity of Christ, virgin birth theology was a crucial

Moses Cooper In A Separate Peace
Moses is an ordinary farmer, and is one of the leader in the revolutionary activities. He is a very
opinionated man and likes to argue. He is proud of his Protestant heritage as a people of the Book, and
he scolds his son Adam for superstitious behavior, telling him the Coopers have been proud of their
literate and educated tradition. Moses helps a lot of people especially his neighbor Joseph Simmons.
Moses helped Simmons draft the statement on the rights of man as a basis for negotiating with the
British for independence. Moses is hard on his son Adam until he hears that Adam does not think that
he loves him. Hate him? My father exploded of all the crazy notions, of all idiotic ideas. There is a
boy, my first born son why would I hate him. (Page 45) He tells him he is too young for the
Committee but at the last minute allows his son to sign up for the muster on the Common because he
sees in Adam s eyes that he will lose his son if he does not recognize him as a man in front of the other
men. In the book, Moses Cooper is portrayed as a very opinionated, religious, and an enraged man but
behind all of this he is a very emotional person. This is proven as the book reaches The Morning,

mechanism, then they would exacerbate illness causing their demise, or they would fail to adapt to the

proves that animals do not just act on mechanism, but also have a mind that is tightly jointed . In
conclusion, this paper has explained Descartes view on bodies and animals, and analyzed whether

Essay on Theory Of Knowledge
Theory Of Knowledge In today s society, science is regarded as being the most trusted form of
knowledge, leading to many claiming it to be the supreme form of knowledge. To investigate whether
or not this is justified we must compare science to other forms/areas of knowledge and consider what
they each contribute. The strongest argument science has to claim this title, is the objectivity and
empirical nature of its method and in particular its verifying processes; mainly based on inductive and
deductive reasoning. Modern science is closely related to inductive reasoning and is presented as a
distinctive feature of scientific activity today. Induction works by verification: correspondence ...
Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most prolific of these adapted verification processes are the Hypothetico deductive model, a
modern formulation associated with famous scientists such as Popper and Hemple. It works by using a
combination of both verification techniques, claiming that what distinguishes scientific hypothesis
from a non scientific hypothesis is not its origin, but the formers capacity to stand up to testing. The
name comes from the claim that the starting point is the hypothesis, from which we can predict that
particular events will occur under particular circumstances. This prediction is a deduction from the
initial hypothesis, and if events occur as predicted then the hypothesis is confirmed. Confirmation of
the hypothesis is inductive, simply because if the hypothesis holds true x number of times, we claim
that it always will hold true. This confirmation of the hypothesis process is the part of the model that
encompasses inductive reasoning, as when using this method one only has access to a limited number
of events. Although the Hypothetico model was developed to incorporate advantages of both types of
verifications, by using inductive reasoning as confirmation processes, it is still affected by the
fundamental flaws of inductivism and basic criticism of the original scientific model. Questions such
as, Why is it legitimate to assume that things will continue to behave as they always

A Change of Tides in America s Greatest War
Midway thrust the warlords back on their heels, caused their ambitious plans..........to be canceled, and
forced on them an unexpected, unwelcome, defensive role . Samuel Elliot Morison, the United States
Navy s official historian of World War II, on the Battle of Midway in June 1942. The danger of
Japanese power in the Pacific lingered over the heads of the Americans and endangered the safety of
their homeland in the years from 1903 to 1942. That power lasted until the Japanese made the mistake
of attacking the island of Midway in the second great carrier battle of the war. At 4:30 in the morning

Force consisted of only four aircraft carriers defended by only a handful of cruisers and destroyers (

that the upcoming battle would be a swift victory for their advancement into the Pacific. Little did the
Japanese know that U.S Intelligence was hard at work gathering intel to thwart an offensive on

The U.S. knew absolutely everything, with skillful work in radio communication and codebreaking,
they were able to find out, in detail, when the attack would begin, where it would be, and how they
would go about it ( Battle of Midway 4 7 June 1942 ). After absorbing the information, Admiral
Chester W. Nimitz of the U.S. Navy, decided to take an offensive approach to the impending battle.
His plan required three naval task forces to be set up. Admiral William F. Bull Halsey was the

Figurative Language In Scarlet Ibis By James Hurst
The short story Scarlet Ibis written by James Hurst is about a boy who narrates the adventures of his
young brother William Armstrong, otherwise known as Doodle, and himself. Doodle is different than
any other brother or you would find in a book, and his physical ability along with appearance in this
story are considered a burden . After spending an abundance of time during class reading and
extracting examples of figurative language in this story, we were given the task to find the theme of
Scarlet Ibis . The theme I have found within this story which is that pride and infallibility don t result
in but often regret and despair. Furthermore I have found multiple quotes from the story that back my
theme up. The first quote I was embarrassed at having a brother of that age who couldn t walk, so I set
out to teach him. (Hurst np)this supports the narrator s pride that gets in the way of letting his brother

The quote I did not know then that pride is a wonderful, terrible thing, a seed that bears two vines, life

figurative language within this quote which is symbolism because it says [about pride] a seed that
bears two vines (Hurst np), additionally this could be foreshadowing Doodle s death later within the
story. The last quote I have acquired front the story is It was too late to turn back, for we had both
wandered too far into a net of expectations and had left no crumbs behind. (Hurst np). This quote
indicates to the reader that the expectations are just the narrator s pride getting in the way of letting his
infallibility go. The quote also has figurative language which is a

Disadvantages Of Fracking Essay
All of the articles I have discovered discuss advantages and disadvantages for fracking that range from
political, environmental and economic impacts. Throughout my articles, there may have been some
authors who were biased but they still were credible and helpful. I discovered from my research that
fracking is beneficial in numerous ways. For the most part, the concerns were similar. The author s
consistently brought up that local facilities can be affected due to chemical slips in the water and
affect health because there is a possibility that citizens can consume it. Another is fracking can cause
earthquakes due to the pressure from the water, which then creates the crack and makes the ground
more unstable. From these sources, (Biello, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I found one (Harvey) that discussed through a political view as well, but he used a different tactic.
Harvey gives a couple advantages for fracking some disadvantages. He states that fracking provides
an endless amount of jobs for those in need of one. The author also discusses that America is rising
because running a more efficient economy and producing more oil at home has allowed the United
States to reduce dependence on oil from repressive Arab states . Harvey then adds the Petro states and
includes a list of the world s top oil producers to show that America is rising and becoming more
independent. Harvey converses about an ounce of prevention and that those high standards will
prevent serious problems. Last but not least, the author wraps it up with the possibility that if we
mismanage the oil and gas bounty, we just might suffer many of their ills , therefore stating that we
have to make sure we handle fracking the right way or it will backfire. The author delivers multiple
examples and proof of fracking advantages through linking his sources and adding a list for support.
Therefore, I can conclude that Harvey was credible and effective because he helped me understand
more of the advantages that fracking offers by providing reliable

The Pros And Cons Of Biological Weapons
One of the reasons as to why the commission believes that terrorists are more likely to obtain
biological weapons than nuclear weapons is because some biological weapons are much simpler and
easier to make than nuclear weapons (Abramson, 2012). Moreover, the materials that are needed to
create a biological weapon could easily be obtained from innocuous endeavors that improve the
quality of human life (Abramson, 2012). On the other hand, if a terrorist organization would try to
conduct a nuclear attack, then they would face many challenges that would be very difficult to
overcome while also keeping the attack secret (Gerstein, 2010). One of these challenges would be
acquiring the equipment and the infrastructure that is needed to create a nuclear weapon without
raising any alarms to authorities about the intents of the terrorist organization (Gerstein, 2010). The

viruses such as Ebola, terrorists could carry out a biological attack without the need of having to use

A Discussion Of Campaign Finance Regulation
In his discussion of campaign finance regulation, Christiano argues that with cases of gatekeeper
mechanism and opinion formation mechanism, campaign expenditures should be regulated to prevent
drowning out of the opinions of nonaffluents. He proposes that certain regulations will actually help
protect and promote freedom of expression, and suggests to limit expenditures and distribute vouchers
during campaign periods. Using a prima facie equation, I will argue against the claim that Christiano s
restrictions interfere unduly with freedom of expression and defend his proposal as a valid resolution
to the problem of drowning out.

The most obvious criticism of Christiano s proposal is that regardless of a regulation s intent or effect,
regulation of campaign expenditures is an infringement on freedom of expression. Many consider one
s allocation of one s own resources to be a mode of expression, and the Supreme Court has generally
upheld this view in Buckley vs. Valeon and Citizens United vs. FEC. In this sense, limiting campaign
expenditure is specifically limiting those who are able and willing to provide private expenditures
from doing so. Such a limitation can been seen as a violation of freedom of expression, and Christiano
s proposal to limit certain expressions in order to promote freedom of expression can seem absurd.
Christiano, however, argues that this temporary limitation is not an unduly interference because the
cost of campaign regulation on freedom of expression is surpassed by its benefits for freedom of
expression. He admits that the affluents will be restricted from fully wielding their economic
advantages, but he claims that this limitation will preserve and promote diversity of opinions during
the campaign period and also ensure long run development of discussions. Because campaign
regulations will prevent diversity of ideas from being diluted by drowning out, political discussion

The Is Synonymous With The Concept Of Industrialization
Corporatization is synonymous with the concept of industrialization. When one thinks of an industrial
park, the picture of a sprawling landscape of large businesses comes to mind. The image of a
community of self sustaining mom and pop shops certainly doesn t fit the bill of what is commonly
thought of to be industrial. We more commonly think of large corporations like Monsanto and
Walmart as symbols of the adjective. In the case of the food industry, the advent of larger grocers,
larger agricultural labor contractors, and more advanced food distribution systems presents a large
amount of evidence to suggest that the food industry has become more corporate and industrial.
McMillan provides a solid background of the history of grocers in the United States. She specifically
points out King Kullen as an early innovator in the industry, stating of the time before King Kullen,
Most women would go to the A P for dry and canned goods, handing their shopping list to a clerk who
would portion out everything from bulk bins and shelves, and hand back the goods over a counter
(McMillan, 106). With this business model, it s very difficult to grow a very large business. This
model is extremely labor intensive, as a clerk had to obtain each item for a customer themselves,
making it so that a grocer could only serve a limited number of customers in one day. In the days
before King Kullen, this greatly restricted the size that a grocer could grow to. McMillan also points to

Touch Of Evil Themes
Touch of Evil is another great film noir that we watched in class. This film portrays love, hate, and
corruption. This film takes place in a Mexican city close to the border of the United States. This film
is a classic film due to music, scenery, and unique character portrayals.
Music in this film is unique. I think this music in this black and white film makes t intriguing. In the
first scene there is a bomb planted on the car. The music being played is interesting. The sound of
drums and instruments are heard. The music is upbeat and has a jazz feel. It makes the scene
suspenseful. The music in this scene captures the time frame which this film was set in. Throughout
the film when there was a climatic or important part coming the musical background was used to
enhance the scene. Many times the instrumental theme was jazz or even Mexican music. This classic
film noir stood out to me because of the music.

Middle East Faces Water Shortage For The Next 25 Years
Intro paragraph:
I collected the news articles for this assignment through various means. For instance, I used Google
search, and typed in keywords such as economy, scarce resources, economic analysis, economic data,
consumer demand, consumer spending and consumer prices. I would then click the news tab and
looked through the list of recent news articles, and I would pick the ones that caught my attention the
most. I also went directly to well known news websites, such as the Miami Herald, Washington Post,
New York times, Forbes, and Daily Finance. The method I used the most was Google Search, due to
the wide variety of options it offered, and because the articles were more organized by date, compared
to the other websites. I also watched the News, and then searched for the article I saw on TV through
search engines such as Google, Yahoo.etc

The Key To Survival Guilt, And The Moral Logic Of Survival
The instincts and emotions connected to survival has benefits and negatives in a person s life. The
Seventh Man , Moral Logic of Survival Guilt , and The Key to Disaster Survival all show how people
are affected by survival. From what I ve read from the stories most people feel guilty after survival. It
s not all guilt there are many emotions that go with survival. In The Seventh Man the narrator loses a
friend that he felt he could have saved. The man and his friend K were down by the ocean while they
were in the eye of a huge storm. K was looking at stuff thrown on the beach by the storm, the man was
watching for big waves and high winds. The man soon felt the wind start to kick up and saw a big
wave getting closer to the shore. He yelled for K, but K wasn t listening he was almost in his own
world. The man started to run, but stopped and yelled for K again this time K heard him and started
running but it was too late the wave crashed over K onto the shore. The wave took K out into the cold
ocean water. They never found K s body after that. The man couldn t forgive himself for what
happened to K and liced his life in fear of losing or hurting people.
In The Moral Logic of Survivor Guilt the narrator explains why people feel guilty after surviving
something someone else didn t or not being there for someone to help. Soldiers often carry this burden
home survivor guilt being perhaps the kind most familiar to us. (pg.153, Sherman), that sentence told

Temujin found a way to convince the people that Ong Khan and his family were dead through rumor

Mongolia. He used tactics that were a mix between old and new fighting styles.
The fourth chapter is named Spitting of the Golden Khan . It is also were part two of the book starts.

inhumane but can also lead to the extinction of many species. In the essay Our Animal Rites ,

unacceptable and disgraceful. Furthermore, many species can become extinct due to excessive

The Improvised Explosive Device ( Ied ) Essay
Winston Churchill said, You can always count on the Americans to do the right thing after they have
tried everything else .1 Three years after field commanders requested Mine Resistant Ambush
Protected (MRAP) vehicles the Pentagon approved the request and asked Congress to pay the bill.2
The defeat of Saddam Hussein by Coalition Forces created a growing insurgency in Iraq from the
summer of 2003 through the surge of U.S. Forces in 2008. The improvised explosive device (IED), the
insurgent s choice weapon, was responsible for 50 80% of U.S. deaths from 2005 through 2008.3 A
CNN poll conducted in March 2003 showed 72% of Americans supported the war in Iraq and 3 years
later only half that number, 36%, of Americans supported the war in Iraq.4 Public support for the war
diminished as deaths increased while U.S. Forces conducted non kinetic operations focused on
rebuilding Iraq. Also during this time, Congress began to ask the Pentagon why they could not defeat
the IED threat.
Despite mounting Congressional pressure, the Pentagon was not prepared to procure MRAPs under a
normal acquisition process. Ultimately, Secretary Gates made the rapid acquisition of the MRAP his
number one priority.5 This essay will highlight three factors that made the MRAP acquisition program
different from a normal acquisition. First, Congress and Secretary Gates, called for immediate MRAP
procurement. Next, MRAP procurement was unexpected as the Pentagon planned to be in and out of

Hence, the windmill and water mill of the middle Ages were very important industrial advancements.
Medieval Industrial Technology has also been characterized by many agricultural improvements.
Medieval farmers used the heavy plough to loosen soil for seed planting. It originated in Asia Minor,
but was later used in Northern Europe. These ploughs were normally mounted on two wheels, and
pulled by several horses or oxen. The heavy plough was also used to rid uncultivated land of weeds
and other vegetation. Even though it did not destroy most plant root systems, it did expose them to the
air, which inhibited their growth. The ditches created by the plough also slowed erosion caused by
heavy rains.
Before the heavy plough, most medieval farmers used a lighter plough. Unlike the heavy plough,
horses and oxen did not pull the light plough. This was a major difference in the effectiveness of the
light plough. The horse collar or horse harness was only used with the heavy plough. The collar puts
the workload on the horse s shoulders instead of the back or neck, such as in earlier models. The horse
collar allowed horses to use more power without straining their necks or backs. Medieval Farming
benefited immensely from these two important, agricultural inventions.
Medieval Construction and building also benefited from the invention of the horse collar. The

My First Twenty Years Of One s Life

extensive changes in the social/emotional and the cognitive stages. Throughout my first twenty years,
I have reached the majority of my physical attributes for adulthood. I have gone from a babbling
infant to a well educated undergraduate student at a pristine univeristy. I have overcome evolving life
circumstances, and I have, in other words, grew up. I plan to use my life experiences along with Laura
E. Berk s psychological research to explain how I have learned to grow and adapt physically, socially,
emotionally, and cognitively. As history progresses, the evolution of physical changes to the human
body seems to move right along with it. According to Berk s studies, the secular trends in physical
growth over the past 150 years have led to taller and heavier children in industrialized nations (p 413).
Personally, my growth was lower than these new trends. I was average height, but I have stayed below
weight even as I am maturing. In the prior family generations before me, many males experienced
their growth spurt up into the twenties, so there is the slim chance that the usual teenage spurts didn t

physical stages of growth as a toddler. I was standing alone and walking alone at eleven months (p

The social and cultural movements of the 1960s began to upset the traditional norms of gender
constructs, family and social structures, racial biases, and portrayals of white suburbia that existed in
the 1950s. Many social movements were taking place in the US while the Vietnam war going on. In
early 1960 black college students in Greensboro, North Carolina sat in on a white s only lunch
counter, as similar sit ins began to happen in other southern cities too. One year later the Freedom
Rides that supported integration in transportation, started taking place on buses. In late 1963, men and
women gathered in Washington DC for a March on Washington protest where they fought for
freedom, justice and equality, and expressed concerns over ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In 1964 both of these family sitcoms were introduced to us. The Munsters and Addams Family
actually critiqued the suburban family as embodied in the television sitcoms of the 1950s by
undermining its image. These shows portrayed the typical suburban family that included young kids
and family pets, as well as a mother who held the family together. They also questioned the values and
social norms of American families during the 1950s. Just like their ethnic identity, social status and
extended family structure, the Munster and Addams families made us question traditional family roles.
The women of the house break gender rules of the 1960s housewife by looking for employment

because they realized that it was okay to be different and still be considered normal. Both sitcoms also
offered comfort that the deviance, the not so perfect nature of real families was not really that strange

Super Size Me, by Morgan Spurlock Essay
Documentary Film Analysis Paper In a society that is facing numerous problems, such as economic
devastation, one major problem is often disregarded, growing obesity. As the American society keeps
growing, so does growth of the fast food industry and the epidemic of obesity. In order to further
investigate the main cause of obesity, Morgan Spurlock, the film director and main character, decides
to criticize the fast food industry for its connection with obesity in America. In his documentary
Spurlock performs a radical experiment that drives him to eat only from McDonald s and order a super
sized meal whenever he is asked. By including visual and textual techniques, rhetorical appeals, and
argumentative evidences, Morgan Spurlock was able ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One example of a graph is the progress of Spurlock s health throughout the thirty days. He uses a
pictograph to analyze the changes in areas regarding health, weight gain, and fat percentage. This
graph shows that he has gained almost 25 pounds, increased cholesterol rate, prone for deleterious risk
for heart problems, emotional and sexual exhaustion, and the development of a fatty liver. By
analyzing the graph, the viewers can see how Spurlock s diet has led to many risky health conditions.
By including many examples of visual and textual evidences in his documentary, Spurlock was able to
reveal how eating fast food is a prime cause of obesity and health problems. He uses visuals and texts
to help explain the credibility of the film, the logic behind it, and the appeal to audience. The
credibility of the film helps shows how dangerous it is to eat fast food constantly. By performing this
experiment, Spurlock became a credible source to report the obesity problem. The health analysis
graph in the film and his daily documentation helps concede the logic in the film. They help provide
solid evidences to the risks faced by eating fast food and how it is related to future health problems.
But overall, most of the visuals and texts are utilized to try appealing to the emotions of the audience.
Spurlock especially uses this to have the audience experience one of the most common problem that is
faced by many Americans

  • 3. A Constitutional Amendment For Women Essay Into parliament. In Bangladesh there had been a provision, which expired in 2000, to reserve 10% of seats for women in parliament. This expiry resulted in a dramatic decrease in the number of female legislators. A constitutional amendment in 2001 extended women‟s reserved seats from 30 to 45 for a period of 10 years. Prior to this, the reserved seats of 30 enacted in 1978 were about the only route for women into parliament. In 1996, 11 or 3.6% of the seats in the first post the post system was won by women. In 2001 this dropped to 6 or only 2% of the seats in parliament. In 2005, a law increased the overall number of seats in parliament, and 45 of these were reserved for women. These were allocated to political parties on the share of the national vote received in the elections, and the number of women increased to 13% of the seats in the 2005 elections, and in 2008 this increased to 18.6%. In Bangladesh, 19 women won out of the 300 constituency seats, to join 45 appointed women members. The number of women holding ministerial portfolios has never exceeded 3%. As of 2009, nearly 80% of parliamentary standing committees have no women. With the addition of the 45 reserved seats in November 2009, women are now 14.8% of the total positions. Begum has commented: The mode of nomination for reserving seats lies exclusively with political parties. A woman selected from the reserved quota has to represent an area more than ten times larger than those of the general seats. The women ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mostly because I cannot imagine becoming a true adult. I d have to do adult things like return a sweater I didn t like or gardening. Gardening! I d have to spend hours upon hours toiling in fields for plants that won t live to see spring! Or cooking, forbid it that I should ever enjoy cooking. • 5. Taking a Look at the Suspension Bridge The suspension bridge is a very popular type of bridge all over the world. It s hard to build but can be built in a lot more places than an arch or beam bridge. Scientists do not know when it was invented. They believe it was near the 15th century. Whom it was invented by is also unknown. A suspension bridge can span distances from 2,000 to 7,000 feet, longer than any other type of bridge in the world. It is a very unique bridge. A suspension bridge is a bridge with the weight of the deck supported by cables suspended from larger cables that run between the towers. The main parts of a suspension bridge are the towers, anchors, main cables, suspension cables, and the road way. It is one of the most expensive bridges to build in the world. Suspension bridges are mainly made out of steel these days. But some of them are made out of different things. A suspension bridge is very different from arch bridges, even though there can be arch in a suspension bridge. The first suspension bridge in America was in Niagara Falls, a beautiful waterfall in New York. The suspension bridge was abandoned and never completed. Though, it still counts as the first suspension bridge. Suspension bridges can be built in most places. You don t need a perfect flat surface to work on unlike some bridges. All you need are the anchors and towers that touch the earth to keep it upright. What you do is, first, put in the anchors (they cost the most money sometimes) then the main cables along with the ... While these incidents may seem unrelated to current times, similar incidents are starting to occur in many parts of the world and one such place is Congo. Many sources hint that the conflict that occurs in Congo is a genocide because many elements of genocide appear in the conflict like classification or dehumanization. While what they say has some truth in the sense that this conflict contains some element of genocide but, not enough elements are present to make it a genocide. Although many would believe that the conflict in Congo is a genocide, there is evidence of the conflict being a territorial and power dispute because some countries invading Congo want the resources, others want power, and the cause of the conflict in Congo is the aftermath of the Rwandan genocide. Chillingworth is symbolized as the devil. From the very beginning of the novel, it can be learned that Chillingworth seeks reveng we on whoever committed adultery with his wife. Today we see Gnosticism s manifestation in our dismal eschatology rather than adopting the early Church s hope for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come, the masses aspire to an ethereal bliss in a heavenly beyond. This misguided eschatology is merely a new form of an old Gnostic influence that has perennially plagued Christian theology. As mentioned above, it s even attested to in the Nicene Creed. But what if there were a Christological reason for calling the virgin birth into question? On the one hand, virgin birth theology has often served as a helpful explanatory tool for adherents to what is commonly called two nature Christology the idea that Jesus was both fully God and fully human. In a way (though I ve always thought it bore the stench of Nestorianism), it allowed theologians the explanatory power to say how it was that the one person of Jesus was constituted by two separate natures divine and human. Essay on Theory Of Knowledge Theory Of Knowledge In today s society, science is regarded as being the most trusted form of knowledge, leading to many claiming it to be the supreme form of knowledge. To investigate whether or not this is justified we must compare science to other forms/areas of knowledge and consider what they each contribute. The strongest argument science has to claim this title, is the objectivity and empirical nature of its method and in particular its verifying processes; mainly based on inductive and deductive reasoning. Modern science is closely related to inductive reasoning and is presented as a distinctive feature of scientific activity today. Induction works by verification: correspondence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The most prolific of these adapted verification processes are the Hypothetico deductive model, a modern formulation associated with famous scientists such as Popper and Hemple. It works by using a combination of both verification techniques, claiming that what distinguishes scientific hypothesis from a non scientific hypothesis is not its origin, but the formers capacity to stand up to testing. The name comes from the claim that the starting point is the hypothesis, from which we can predict that particular events will occur under particular circumstances. This prediction is a deduction from the initial hypothesis, and if events occur as predicted then the hypothesis is confirmed. Confirmation of the hypothesis is inductive, simply because if the hypothesis holds true x number of times, we claim that it always will hold true. This confirmation of the hypothesis process is the part of the model that encompasses inductive reasoning, as when using this method one only has access to a limited number of events. Although the Hypothetico model was developed to incorporate advantages of both types of verifications, by using inductive reasoning as confirmation processes, it is still affected by the fundamental flaws of inductivism and basic criticism of the original scientific model. Throughout my articles, there may have been some authors who were biased but they still were credible and helpful. I discovered from my research that fracking is beneficial in numerous ways. For the most part, the concerns were similar. The author s consistently brought up that local facilities can be affected due to chemical slips in the water and affect health because there is a possibility that citizens can consume it. Another is fracking can cause earthquakes due to the pressure from the water, which then creates the crack and makes the ground more unstable. From these sources, (Biello, ... Harvey then adds the Petro states and includes a list of the world s top oil producers to show that America is rising and becoming more independent. Harvey converses about an ounce of prevention and that those high standards will prevent serious problems. Last but not least, the author wraps it up with the possibility that if we mismanage the oil and gas bounty, we just might suffer many of their ills , therefore stating that we have to make sure we handle fracking the right way or it will backfire. The author delivers multiple examples and proof of fracking advantages through linking his sources and adding a list for support. The Pros And Cons Of Biological Weapons One of the reasons as to why the commission believes that terrorists are more likely to obtain biological weapons than nuclear weapons is because some biological weapons are much simpler and easier to make than nuclear weapons (Abramson, 2012). Moreover, the materials that are needed to create a biological weapon could easily be obtained from innocuous endeavors that improve the quality of human life (Abramson, 2012). On the other hand, if a terrorist organization would try to conduct a nuclear attack, then they would face many challenges that would be very difficult to overcome while also keeping the attack secret (Gerstein, 2010). One of these challenges would be acquiring the equipment and the infrastructure that is needed to create a nuclear weapon without raising any alarms to authorities about the intents of the terrorist organization (Gerstein, 2010). The most obvious criticism of Christiano s proposal is that regardless of a regulation s intent or effect, regulation of campaign expenditures is an infringement on freedom of expression. Many consider one s allocation of one s own resources to be a mode of expression, and the Supreme Court has generally upheld this view in Buckley vs. Valeon and Citizens United vs. FEC. In this sense, limiting campaign expenditure is specifically limiting those who are able and willing to provide private expenditures from doing so. Such a limitation can been seen as a violation of freedom of expression, and Christiano s proposal to limit certain expressions in order to promote freedom of expression can seem absurd. Christiano, however, argues that this temporary limitation is not an unduly interference because the cost of campaign regulation on freedom of expression is surpassed by its benefits for freedom of expression. He admits that the affluents will be restricted from fully wielding their economic advantages, but he claims that this limitation will preserve and promote diversity of opinions during the campaign period and also ensure long run development of discussions. When one thinks of an industrial park, the picture of a sprawling landscape of large businesses comes to mind. The image of a community of self sustaining mom and pop shops certainly doesn t fit the bill of what is commonly thought of to be industrial. We more commonly think of large corporations like Monsanto and Walmart as symbols of the adjective. In the case of the food industry, the advent of larger grocers, larger agricultural labor contractors, and more advanced food distribution systems presents a large amount of evidence to suggest that the food industry has become more corporate and industrial. McMillan provides a solid background of the history of grocers in the United States. She specifically points out King Kullen as an early innovator in the industry, stating of the time before King Kullen, Most women would go to the A P for dry and canned goods, handing their shopping list to a clerk who would portion out everything from bulk bins and shelves, and hand back the goods over a counter (McMillan, 106). With this business model, it s very difficult to grow a very large business. This model is extremely labor intensive, as a clerk had to obtain each item for a customer themselves, making it so that a grocer could only serve a limited number of customers in one day. In The Seventh Man the narrator loses a friend that he felt he could have saved. The man and his friend K were down by the ocean while they were in the eye of a huge storm. K was looking at stuff thrown on the beach by the storm, the man was watching for big waves and high winds. The man soon felt the wind start to kick up and saw a big wave getting closer to the shore. The wave took K out into the cold ocean water. They never found K s body after that. The man couldn t forgive himself for what happened to K and liced his life in fear of losing or hurting people. Medieval farmers used the heavy plough to loosen soil for seed planting. It originated in Asia Minor, but was later used in Northern Europe. These ploughs were normally mounted on two wheels, and pulled by several horses or oxen. The heavy plough was also used to rid uncultivated land of weeds and other vegetation. Even though it did not destroy most plant root systems, it did expose them to the air, which inhibited their growth. The ditches created by the plough also slowed erosion caused by heavy rains. Before the heavy plough, most medieval farmers used a lighter plough. Unlike the heavy plough, horses and oxen did not pull the light plough. This was a major difference in the effectiveness of the light plough. The horse collar or horse harness was only used with the heavy plough.
