Intelligence Trap
What holds me back from becoming an improved critical thinker is a method of thinking called the
intelligence trap. The intelligence trap, founded in Edward de Bono s book, de Bono s Thinking
Course. The intelligence trap is when an opinion is formed initially and then due to higher intelligence
or practice in debating, is naturally able to defend the opinion, even against scrutiny. This cause a trap
where there no need to seek out other opinions, results, or contradiction due to others inability to
successfully challenge the opinion. My father loved to debate when I was an adolescent, and I
emulated this at a young age. Unfortunately, he was more interested in winning rather than making a
cohesive argument. At the end of every argument or disagreement, he had to be the victor. Eventually,
I was able to hold my opinions against him. But this is how I devolve into this trap, I learned how to
defend my already formed position, but not necessarily taking the time to flush out the details, or seek
alternatives. I was taught and eventually saw it as a weakness to dawn a new opinion in the middle of
the moment. I developed my method of defending myself over time growing after every confrontation.
My vernacular grew as I senesce. This only increased my confidence incrementally. ... Show more

I need to learn to say I do not know or I do not know enough to form a valid opinion before attempting
to defend my stance. After all, it is more respectable to have no opinion rather than forming an opinion
based on ignorance, fallacy argument, and or false beliefs. A quote that speaks volumes to me is, You
cannot dig a hole in a different place by digging the same hole deeper. said by Dr de Bono. He uses
this colloquial metaphor to project an image of an expert and or intelligent people digging a deep hole,
but what should be is a series of

History And Purpose Of NAFTA
Conflict has always been an influential part of the history of man. Conflicts associated with trade, are
some of the most common products of human existence. It simply means to trade something for
something else and some ended up unhappy in the end. The items traded might be goods, services,
relationships, methods or ideas. Although once the initial terms of a transaction have been settled,
often disputes arise after the fact. Believe it or not Paid in full does not mean that the relationship ends
for neither the buyer nor the seller. A buyer might say This is not what you told me you were selling.
or the seller might disagree with the use of the item sold. Philosophy or product disputes have a long
and sorted history. One culturally relevant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As stated by Friedman, The essence of globalization is the free movement of people, goods services,
and capital across national borders Friedman, Mandelbaum, 2012, p.19). In 1984, Congress passed the
Trade and Tariff Act. That gave the president fast track authority to negotiate free trade agreements. It

conceptualization of globalization as a dynamic process rather than as a static condition Steger, 2000,

that globalization is not one set of social processes. We are all constantly being propelled towards the
condition of globality and that one defining the characteristic of the process: movement towards more
intense forms of connectivity and integration Steger, 2000, p11). Mayer asserts that conflict is a basic
part of the human condition. It has many roots and theoretical explanations of its origin. To give a
rather simple explanation, conflict boils down to the human competition for recourses and power

Eighty-Five Essays For High School
Eighty five. The alarming shrieks originating from a little black box force me to awake from a deep
slumber. Eighty five. Trudging through the dark and feeling the coarse plastered surface, my fingers
follow the grooves of the wall until they find a metal button. My senses overload as a flood of light
illuminates the porcelain toilet, the dripping faucets, and the hanging towels. Eighty five. My feet lead
themselves, as if this has been done many times before, pressing down onto a small white box hidden
in the shadows. The small box screams as one number flashes on the screen. Eighty five. My heart
drops and I muster the strength to push on through the day, disregarding my frail frame in the mirror. I
get dressed and rush to school. Passing through the bustling highways of students rushing to meet with
teachers before the school bell rang, I zoom to my locker, and pull out a notebook and a pencil so that
I could sit down, hidden in the black veil of isolation.
To the freshman me, the pencil and paper was my escape from the sighs of disgust when remembering
the flash of the black digits. I was able to craft worlds filled with characters of grandeur and
adventure, befriending superheroes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The dominoes toppled as my trail to leadership was set in stone, actions and prospects never popping

activity. I began to discover the importance of expression over external perception, as through writing
and public speaking the words from my heart were heard rather than my appearance being ridiculed.

The Round House Erdrich
The novel The Round House revolves around the questionable morality of vengeance. Louise Erdrich,
shares the tale of a young boy and his endeavor to gain vengeance for his mother s rape. Through the
eyes of Joe Coutts, a story of crime and justice unfolds. Joe s aggression emerges after he discovers
his mother, Geraldine, is raped. Consequently, Joe attempts to avenge his mother by locating the
perpetrator, Linden Lark, and killing him. Does Joe s quest to find vengeance, justify his plot for
murder? The moral conflict between justice and vengeance interferes with Joe s plan. Erdrich voices, I
don t remember that they even looked at me or I at them after the shock of that first moment when we
all realized we were old (317). Joe finds out the judge is uncertain whether Lark can be accused at all,
this sparks Joe to carry on his own personal quest for retribution. Erdrich uses Joe s vigilante
perspective to question the morality of vengeance; it acts as a call to action when dealing with family
affairs. Erdrich s appeals to Joe s action by questioning its morality with the justification of the law;
arguing the extent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the lack of jurisdiction enforcement and Basil s pitiful attempt on finding justice, Joe is forced to
find vengeance himself. Furthermore, Joe is appalled that little action has taken place. Erdrich says, I
ve had enough fear for my whole life. You will not add to my fear. You will not add to my sorrows.
You will not be a part of this (89). This exemplifies the loneliness and fear that Geraldine has after the
rape. Although, Geraldine is telling joe not to pursue Lark, this only fuels his emotion to seek
vengeance. I ll do it. There is nothing to stop me. I know who he is and i m going after him (89). Joe s
passion is immense. Although Joe does not know the true identity of the rapist, he still is determined

Holiday by Margaret Atwood Essay examples
Holiday by Margaret Atwood Holiday by Margaret Atwood has a simple and familiar subject but the
real meaning behind the simple story is hard hitting and in many ways it is a warning. She talks of a
holiday and story shows how she is at a barbeque with her family in the countryside. However she
interweaves a bleak image of our future within this straightforward story. It starts of with Atwood
describing her daughter eating sausages. She uses the words barbarism and creates an image of burst
meat dripping down her chin these words create a very primitive and uncivilized image. She describes
them standing beneath a large leafed tree with nature as their only protection. This scene ... Show

We humans are too placid. like a breath, a footstep shows that the danger is creeping up slowly and
softly but is without doubt there. She uses a juxtaposition in the next line saying, with its calm eye of
fire calm and fire are 2 opposites as fire is never meant to be calm. She says that fire or danger is
coming but very peacefully. The calm nothing carries with it an explosive danger, which we are
ignorant to. She then comes back to present and describes the scene around her. She continues to
depict her daughter eating and looking for berries. However the line grace plumps the berries, two or
three hot and squashed in her fist seems to be a metaphor. I think that Atwood is saying simply that her
daughter finds a Few dusty berries and then squashes them in her hand. However its profound
meaning seems to be that grace or blessing from god has made the berries round and juicy, they slowly
became dusty and now man destroys it so frivolously. It is a metaphor showing nature and how man
treats it presently, without much care. She also says the blades of grass are still with us , as she
remembers that we still have grass and expresses gratitude. The last stanza is clearly a warning where
she says that so far we have destroyed nature carelessly and for fun, but we have already

Personal Stereotypes
Although our personal stereotypes and biases greatly impact our view of others and the world around
us, is it reasonable to believe that our mental inclinations can also render substantial influence in the
lives of the people we judge? Today when we hear and use the word stereotype , it is usually within a
negative context; it carries a negative charge. However, there are those who persist in asserting the
positive effects of stereotypes. As was discussed earlier, stereotypes are convenient for situations
where we need to execute swift judgments and lack the time to properly assimilate and process
thoroughly; they are helpful in regards to self preservation and efficient functioning. Stereotypes also

Continuing with the example of Asian Americans from the prior paragraph, we can observe...... Asian
Americans are thought to achieve a higher degree of success than the average population. Asian
American students are expected to achieve high marks, play instruments, aspire to be a physician, and
set ambitious goals; they are stereotyped as the model minority. This stigma seems like it should be a
compliment to hard work, but it permeates their lives far beyond the surface level. These students set
incredibly high standards for themselves, and are conditioned to accept nothing short of perfection in
the work that they do. The overwhelming stress of living up to the highest standards causes students to
suffer psychological, emotional, and academic costs, and they begin to measure their self worth by
quantitative achievement; poor performance is indicative of inferiority. These attitudes are ingrained
during developmental years and persist in later years. The model minority creates an illusion of perfect
Asian American students who feel emotionally isolated and hopeless because their needs become
neglected and ignored. Students refuse to seek help in times of need because doing so seems like
admitting failure. When Asian American students fail to meet academic goals and standards, they
suffer from feelings of shame and inadequacy.

The only thing constantly in my head over the duration of my deployment was my wife. I may have

Water Potential Essay
The western part of the country has exhibited the criteria that has warranted water relocation efforts.
For a time, the water diversion efforts worked to serve the communities around it appropriately.
However, as the withdrawal of water has exceeded the supply and as climate change has contributed
to decreasing water supply, there are serious threats to the future of available water in the western
United States. One proposed solution involves diverting water from the Great Lakes in Michigan to
the southwest. The location of the Great Lakes, positioned between the United States and Canada,
leads to international considerations and a controversial problems regarding international law. The
lakes serve as a water source to both the Americans ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, there is a high demand for water. At present, Pennsylvania does not face the water shortages that
warrant water relocation, however, if surface and groundwater withdrawals increase it could push
Pennsylvania closer to considering installing more hydrological alterations and exacerbate the
problems that currently face the nation as a whole.
There is a clear demand for water in locations that do not naturally have an adequate supply. Water
diversion projects serve their purpose in providing water for individual consumers as well as for
irrigation and industry. However, as illustrated in this paper, there are severe consequences that arise
when disrupting the natural flow of water the ecosystem around it. To mitigate some of the
consequences national geographic has suggested restricting the construction of dams, providing
incentives for farming business to reduce the use of pesticides, establishing protected wetlands areas,
and regulating water withdrawal for human use (Freshwater Threats, 2016). It is important that the
solutions to reduce the negative effects of hydrological alterations are aimed at various areas. Efforts
should be aimed at reducing the demand for water by increasing efficiency in industry and irrigation
as well as increasing the efficiency of water delivery. Efforts should be aimed at the careful planning,
engineering, and construction of the hydrological alterations with special attention

Observational Learning Research
The method of learning I best understand is observational learning because I am definitely more of a
visual learner. Graphs, charts, and experiments are some of the more visual things that help me learn
best. Besides school though, I know observational learning has helped me immensely in the sports I
have done like cheerleading and gymnastics. I always need someone to show me how to do the
tumbling pass or demonstrate how the cheer routine is done to really understand and internalize what I
need to do. If someone tried to explain just using words how to do a certain trick in gymnastics, I
would never be able to figure out how to do it. Instead, I watch and take notes in my mind as the
instructor performs the trick and demonstrates after how I need to use my arms, shoulders and core to
safely and effectively execute the trick. While observational learning was very efficient for me when
learning gymnastics, I do not believe the other methods of learning would be as helpful. I think each
method has it time and place where it works best, but it all depends on the situation. For example,

obstacles threaten to stop their progress to become a developed nation. Least Developed Countries

With the world gripped by oil shortage The Timor Sea Treaty, which is split 90% to 10% in favour of

workers and therefore they don t have the capacity to invest or save what they do earn, but income can
be earned and received through providing services and withholding this income from third parties that
may interfere. East Timor is in desperate need of foreign dollars. A dependence on aid in the short
term with an increased reliance on services in the medium to long term rather than the export of
agricultural and manufactured commodities may be an optimum strategy for East Timor.
Entrepreneurial skills need to be developed through a strong education system. Continued external
support is required as the building blocks for East Timor to develop economically. The Government
also has a significant role to play as it is crucial that the country adopts Macroeconomic policies which
also generate productive work and income opportunities to develop sustainable livelihoods. It is
important that the poor are assisted in their efforts to improve their farming and commodity

Narrative Of The Life Of Frederick Douglass, An American...
In 1845 Frederick Douglass published his first book Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an
American Slave. This book not only showed people what life was truly like in the eyes of a slave, but
it became instrumental in propelling the abolitionist movement and helping it gain motion all across
the country. Douglass was truly a revolutionary person because throughout the duration of slavery,
African American people were not permitted to be educated. This was considered dangerous. It wasn t
until Frederick Douglass was moved to Boston, where slaves were treated more like people instead of
cattle, that he learned to read and write. When Frederick was 20 years old he escaped to Massachusetts
and began to learn more about the abolitionist movement; this lead to him writing his first book. None
of this would have been possible, however, without Douglass learning how to read and write.
Education is a major key in lifting people of color out of oppression.
The wife of Douglass s master began teaching him to read as he was just a boy at the time and he
appealed to her humanity. When Hugh Auld, Douglass s master, found out about what his wife was
doing he became livid and forbade her to teach him anymore. Auld said that if she taught him to read
he would become ...unmanageable, and of no value to his master. And that it would make Douglass

The Power of The House of Medici Essay
The House of Medici, or the Medici family, was a very influential and extremely powerful family
during the time of the Renaissance in Italy. The Renaissance took place starting in the late 14th
century. During this time, the people started to take interest in and have an appreciation for the
classical times. The beginning of this powerful family really begins with Giovanni di Bicci deˈ

Medici family immigrated to Florence during the 12th century. Giovanni di Bicci deˈ Medici was the

Lorenzo was born in 1499 and was known as Lorenzo il Magnifico, the Magnificent. Lorenzo
continued with his grandfather s work and funded talented artists such as Michelangelo, Da Vinci, and
also a public art school. Lorenzo was definitely more concerned with his power, popularity, and
success rather than the banking business. He married a niece of a cardinal, and to keep his success
locked in, Lorenzo married off his daughter to Pope Leo VIII s son. Lorenzo also bought his son,
Giovanni, the role of Cardinal. Giovanni eventually became Pope Leo X. In doing all of this, Lorenzo
widened the Medici family s influence, but he also lessened their personal bank account. Because the
amount of money they had was getting smaller and smaller, the Medici power began to weaken.
Luckily, Cardinal Giovanni de Medici had become Pope Leo X in 1513. Giovanni, Pope Leo X, was
able to make the family wealthy again by selling the freedom from punishment of sins. Starting now,
the Medici family turned its attention from the banking business to the business of the church. In
1523, Giulio, son of Giuliano and cousin of Giovanni, became Pope Clement VII. To keep the family

Jig is a young, modern woman who is faced with the decision of prolonging her freedom and the
stability of her relationship or accepting motherhood and the responsibility that comes with it. It is not
to say that motherhood is a prison; it is that motherhood would be the death of everything she loved,
mainly travelling, and the very stability of her relationship with her lover, the American . The
American says, That s the only thing that bothers us. It s the only thing that s made us unhappy.
(Hemingway 115) which unequivocally shows that the center of conflict inside of their relationship is
the presumed pregnancy. There are several instances in the story that the American reiterates Jig s
options for her future. Although he expresses that he would support and love her no matter what the
ultimate choice is, she feels conflicted and her pain, which builds throughout the story and as the
conversation progresses, becomes more obvious. What is most interesting is, as his second thoughts
about the unspoken abortion spike, her resistance to discuss the topic any further grows in tandem.
Although the two heroes love for one another is evident, there is the aching uncertainty between them:
Is there room for a child in their relationship built of travelling, drinking, and discovery? Jig s
repression, just like Miss Emily s, is inevitable because of their presented circumstance. These

Crimes And Copyright Infringement And Illegal File Sharing...
Introduction
All crimes come in different forms. Computer related crimes are no different ( Most common
schemes: Identity crimes, 2009). In some computer based crimes, a computer is used to commit the
crime, such as in copyright infringement and illegal file sharing cases (Volonino, Anzaldua Godwin,
2007, p. 67). To best investigate these crimes, an investigator must understand how to preserve and
authenticate all electronic evidence that pertains to the case (Volonino, Anzaldua Godwin, 2007, p.
67). This training manual will provide an overview of copyright infringement and illegal file sharing
crimes, as well as explain how to conduct a seizure and search of evidence. In addition, the manual
addresses investigative concerns related to these cases.
Overview of the crime According to Volonino, Anzaldua and Godwin (2007), technological advances
have led to an increase in computer based crimes such as copyright infringement and illegal file
sharing (p. 66). Copyright infringement is defined as the copying, distribution or sharing of
copyrighted works, including music, videos, and digital copies of textbooks without permission (
Copyright Infringement and Illegal File Sharing, 2015). A common form of copyright infringement is
software piracy. This is when a person makes unauthorized copies of a software or music file to share
or transfer to other people ( Copyright Infringement Penalties, 2009). Some legal issues associated
with copyright infringement include the

Michael Joseph Jackson, African American Essay
Michael Joseph Jackson, African American, male, born 1958 in Gary Indiana, but was raised outside
of Chicago. Where Michael was born was primarily black in the 60 s (99%). However, when the
Jackson Family moved to Encino California in 1971, they bought what is called Hayvenhurst House.
This is where Michael and his entire family would live until Michael moved out in 1988 to Neverland

exceeded 1%.
Growing up, 11 people lived under his family s roof: his two parents: Joseph Walter Jackson and
Katherine Jackson; along with his 8 brothers and sisters: Maureen, Sigmund, Toriano, Jermaine, La
Toya, Marlon, Steven, and Janet. In 1964, five of the Jackson Brothers began a music group named
The Jackson 5, which Motown Records signed in 1968. In total, the Jackson s made 14 albums. They
were one of the first black American musicians to have an African American and a White following. It
was after that that, in 1972, that Michael decided that he wanted to go solo. With a rounded face,
infamous voice, and those doe eyes; a star is born.
A year later, and 3 solo albums later, puberty for Michael started to diminish the baby fat and revealed

puberty was actually quite tragic and very difficult for him (Mc Fadden, 2003)

Themes Of Oppression In Crown Of Midnight By Sarah J Maas
Celaena heard it now as if for the first time, the story of a Fae blessed with a horrible, profound power
that was sought by kings and lords in every kingdom. While they used her to win wars and conquer
nations, they all feared her―and kept their distance (118). Sarah J Maas is an American Author best
recognized for her Throne of Glass series. Its second installment, Crown of Midnight, follows Celaena
as she spars with her loyalty. One grievous night forces her to choose allies and foes. To emphasize the
focal idea, Maas utilizes themes of rebellion, oppression, and death.
First and foremost, a crucial theme embedded is rebellion. The King of Adarlan is recognized as a
megalomaniac, from his own son to the prisoners in Callaculla. He is on a quest to conquer all of
Erilea. But in order to do so, he is in need of somebody to do all of his dirty work, and that is when
Celaena comes into the light. Her task is to kill the King s enemies. Conversely, she disobeys direct
orders. I haven t killed any of the people the king commanded me to assassinate (184). When she
consults it with her friend Chaol, he is livid. If the king finds out, he will force Chaol to kill Celaena
as punishment for being her friend. Chaol attempts to talk sense into Celaena by calling those men
traitors to the crown. She scoffs, Traitors. For refusing to grovel before a conqueror? For sheltering
escaped slaves trying to get home? For daring to believe in a world that s better than this gods

Why Did Lans Join Aseann
In 1990s, Laos agreed and joined AFTA in order to join ASEAN, but was given longer time frames in
which to meet AFTA s tariff reduction obligations [7]. AFTA, with its main goal, to increase ASEAN s
competitive edge as a production base in the world market through the elimination, within ASEAN, of
tariffs and non tariff barriers; and to attract more foreign direct investment to ASEAN, used the
Common Effective Preferential Tariff (CEPT) scheme as the main mechanism, which comprises a
schedule for phasing out the tariffs. In June 1993, the two governments (Government of the Lao

Supplychain Management at Walmart
Summary SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT AT WAL MART Wal Mart was the world s largest
retailer, with US$312.4 billion sales from operations spanning 15 countries in 2006. In the most recent
quarters the company had been unable to meet its self imposed target of holding inventory growth to
half the level of sales growth. Wal Mart s new executive vice president of logistics, Johnnie C. Dobbs,
wondered what he could do to ensure that Wal Mart s supply chain remained a key competitive
advantage for his firm, RETAIL INDUSTRY In United States, retailers competed at local, regional

Descriptive Essay On An Ethiopian Restaurant
Upon driving into the small neighboring outlet behind the main N. Germantown Pkwy, stood an
African restaurant in bulky, bold letters that read: Ethiopian Restaurant Coffee; each word a different
color of the Ethiopian flag: green, yellow, and red. Standing in front of the empty restaurant, I was
bombarded with several modern advertisements on the clear, see through windows in the form of
stickers promoting their restaurant meant to attract customers such as Free Wifi Inside , We Deliver ,
and XFINITY WIFI is here . In addition to the advertisements, the door held two open signs one
electric and one plastic along with the name Nani Hareg in striking gold and red letters, and upon
further research on the restaurant, it represented the name of the current manager. Reaching for the
rectangular door handle, I was instantly greeted with bell chimes and a African waitress who seated
me in chairs covered with white textiles in the center of the room. Having given me the menu, she had
went away to turn on modern pop music and the lights near the counter. Once seated inside, I scanned
the room. The windows were covered with deep red and white striped curtains neatly tied with a red,
yellow, and green patterned cloth in a elegant fashion. The walls were a deep maroon with a slight
orange tint decorated with paintings of African ancestors and sacred animals, posters of national
monuments, and vividly imitated flowers. Fascinatingly, one wall was left white in the center

Zheng He Legacy
Almost a century before Christopher Columbus s voyages, Zheng He a Chinese admiral traveled past
China to the east coast of Africa and some of the Indian Ocean. On He s first voyage, he had about
255 ships and 27,500 crew members compared to Columbus who only had three ships and 90 crew
members. Zheng He traveled more than any other explorer before his time. Yet He isn t celebrated.
Although Zheng He did give China a good trading reputation, he didn t do it in the best way; for
example, Zheng He took too many voyages in order to accomplish his legacy, which included killing
barbarians for not offering China a tribute. Despite the fact that Zheng He had ships that were almost
five times the size of Columbus s and that Zheng s crew was

Roman Catholic Church Vs Mexican Religion
Central to this family centered culture was the Roman Catholic Church, a trademark of these peoples
Spanish heritage. Alas, though these immigrant pioneers were brothers and sisters of the one true
apostolic church in a predominantly Protestant Texas, they were still just Mexicans in the eyes of the
Anglo St. Mary s Catholic parish. Duron still has trouble understanding the discrimination at the pews
as she remembers that whenever she went to mass they let the Mexican people on one side and the
white people on the other side , segregating the congregation right down the middle. The Chavez
siblings actually recalled that the priest of St. Mary s would occasionally give the Mexicans mass in a

Buying A Buffalo Wild Wings Franchise Fee
An easier alternative to starting a business from scratch is purchasing an already established one. This
can be achieved through purchasing a franchise, a business that follows an already established model.
Before one purchases a franchise, they must obtain specific information to know whether or not the
venture is worth it. One franchise that is growing in popularity is Buffalo Wild Wings. Although it is
growing in popularity and success, is purchasing a Buffalo Wild Wings franchise worth it? The first
question one must ask is about the initial franchise fee, the amount a franchisee pays up front when
obtaining a franchise. Buffalo Wild Wings franchise fee is $40,000. This fee covers a variety of
services provided by the franchisor. When looking for a location, Buffalo Wild Wings provides site
selection assistance and guidance; as well as professional layout, blueprint, design, and construction
document review and analysis. They also provide equipment and supplier lists, and they provide
assistance in obtaining needed licenses (liquor license). They also provide comprehensive pre opening
assistance and a restaurant opening training package. Once the venture begins, they provide ongoing
guidance in marketing, operating, and financing. They also provide scheduled visits from a Franchisee
Consultant, who is able to provide guidance and advice to the franchisee. Finally, they provide further
training for any employees the franchisee may have. The next important aspect is

Disney Princess Stereotypes
Introduction
Written by a collaboration of research authors, Pretty as a Princess: Longitudinal Effects of
Engagement with Disney Princesses on Gender Stereotypes, Body Esteem, and Prosocial Behavior in
Children was published in 2016. Sarah M. Coyne (Brigham Young University), Jennifer Ruh Linder
(Linfield College), Eric E. Rasmussen (Texas Tech University), and David A. Nelson and Victoria
Birkbeck (Brigham Young University) discuss in writing the connotative and denotative effects of a
gender stereotyped society. They research the effects of Disney Princess culture and emphasize the
characteristics developed within the minority of preschool and kindergarten age children, especially
females, that potentially are exposed to the Disney Princess chain. The audience for the author s
message is a wide range of groups and individuals, but, at its widest scope, the research project is
intended for multinational media corporations, specifically those of whom are based in the United
States, target the control group (preschoolers and kindergarteners), and have the opportunity to
incorporate gender stereotypical characters into their products.
Although other readers will also find the results useful, especially other social science workers, the
professional medium and high profile endorsements and financial support given to this project
correlates directly with the large scale audience it is intended for. With respect to the genre through

Analysis Of The Chrysalids By John Wyndham
Certain decisions and events in life make people choose different paths that often do not connect with
the way things work around them. They follow these paths because they believe that it is justified. In
the novel, The Chrysalids by John Wyndham explains a variety of paths that could be considered as
rebellious. Uncle Axel rebels against the expectations that is put on him in his society, Anne abandons
her inborn ability and the group of telepaths, while Gordon revolts against the established power of
Waknuk. All three of the characters are in opposition to the higher power in a society. Uncle Axel is
considered as a black sheep because he rejects the strict ideology that takes place in Waknuk. Since

Anne chooses to marry Alan who fits the true image , the telepaths don t agree with her decision and
warn her about the dangers of marrying an outsider. Anne turns a blind eye and cuts her ties with the
telepaths. When Alan is killed, Anne assumes that it was the telepaths who had killed Alan. Anne
believes that [she] knows what [she] intends to do: the rest of [them] don t know what [they] intend to
do because none of them have been in love (Wyndham 92). In life people often choose to make
themselves satisfied without considering how it might affect others. This shows that people tend to
look away from the reality of their choices, so that in the end they don t feel guilty about it. Anne
chooses to marry Alan, which put her at risk of Alan finding out about the telepathic. Alan finds out
about the telepaths, which endangers the telepaths, so for the safety of the telepaths, he is killed. Anne
was enraged by this, and presumably exposed the telepaths. Anne put herself and her friends in
danger, so that she can be satisfied with her decision. When the telepaths confront her, she cuts all
contact with them and proceeded with her

Culture As Common Practices And Knowledge
When describing culture, I feel it is different in all places of the world, but has the same meaning. I
define culture as common practices and knowledge held by a group of people in a fixed area. Most
areas have their own individual culture, but they can connect to each other in some way. Learning
about a different culture is something I did with my own experiences. Having done this, I see culture
as civilizations having their own look on life individually.
With culture being practices and knowledge held by groups in certain areas, I have witnessed this in
person. In the summer of 2015, I had the most amazing opportunity of my life so far to come my way.
My youth group was going on an international mission trip, and I had the possibility to go to
Tegucigalpa, Honduras. Getting this news for the first time, I felt butterflies in my stomach, warmth
rushing throughout my body, and the urge to jump out of my seat. You can certainly say I was excited
for my new adventure to begin. This would be a completely new experience for me because I had
never even been out of the United States.
To start off the trip, I had to wake before dawn, and when the stars were still twinkling in the night
sky. My brother and I were the two from our family to embark on this trip and we both woke up with
dark bags under our eyes, but we were ready for the long plane ride ahead of us. This being my first
international trip, it was also my first plane ride. We got on the plane and I did not know that it

Macbeth s Descent Into Evil
In William Shakespeare s Macbeth, the tragic hero Macbeth, descends into evil after a prophecy from
three witches sparks his ambition and tempts Macbeth into committing horrible deeds out of paranoia,
arrogance, and spite. Macbeth begins his chain of murders due to the fact that he wishes to become the
King of Scotland. In Act One, Scene three of Macbeth, three witches arrive and prophesize that
Macbeth will become the Thane of Cawdor and the King. Soon after the witches disappear, Macbeth
is delivered the news that he was named Thane of Cawdor. This occurrence causes Macbeth to believe
each part of the prophecy and he allows his ambition to take control of his thoughts, which leads him
to deciding to kill King Duncan. Macbeth acknowledges the fact that he has no other reason for killing
Duncan, besides ambition, when he states, I have no spur/ To prick the sides of my intent, but only/

Rights are not something that someone else, including a country or a constitution gives or confers
upon you. A fundamental right is a right you have by righteousness of your birth in your specific

acknowledges such rights, and sets down a policy that such rights should not be violated. Civil rights

Brothers of the Bible
Brothers of the Bible
The Old Testament sibling rivalries between Cain and Abel, Esau and Jacob, and Joseph and his
brothers were similar in some ways and different in others, but they all hold lessons for us today, for
brothers today still face many of the same problems in life that challenged brothers thousands of years
ago. Cain and Abel were in a situation much more unique than Esau and Jacob, and Joseph and his
brothers faced, for the society they lived in was extremely small, and they each had a direct
relationship with God. As the book of Genesis tells us, Cain was the first born son of Adam and Eve.
Their next son was a boy whom they named Abel. As Cain and Abel grew up both took
responsibilities for making a living. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Abingdon, 521) As noted briefly above, the rivalry was heightened even more because their father
Isaac liked Esau better than Jacob for the wild game Esau brought home from hunting, while their
mother Rebekah liked Jacob better because he learned to cook and to do other things to help her
around their home. The simmering rivalry came to a head when Jacob tricked Esau out of his
birthright, and then tricked Isaac into giving him the blessing he d intended to give Esau. Enraged,
Esau vowed to kill Jacob. When they finally met again Jacob was ready to completely submit to Esau,
but when they saw each other, Esau ran to meet him, and embraced him, and fell on his neck, and
kissed him. (Genesis 33:4) Esau comes across as callous and uncaring, easily outwitted regarding
what might naturally be his, desiring more a satisfied present than a secure future. And on the other
hand, Jacob is presented as a clever and opportunistic individual, who knows what he wants. He takes
advantage of a brother in need. (Abingdon, 522) Essentially, the story of the rivalry between Jacob and
Esau is one in which the Scriptures show the importance of forgiveness. Esau forgave his brother, and
they were reconciled. This relates to many families today, for children are often competitive,
especially brothers, and should heed the example set by Esau. The

  • 2. Intelligence Trap What holds me back from becoming an improved critical thinker is a method of thinking called the intelligence trap. The intelligence trap, founded in Edward de Bono s book, de Bono s Thinking Course. The intelligence trap is when an opinion is formed initially and then due to higher intelligence or practice in debating, is naturally able to defend the opinion, even against scrutiny. This cause a trap where there no need to seek out other opinions, results, or contradiction due to others inability to successfully challenge the opinion. My father loved to debate when I was an adolescent, and I emulated this at a young age. Unfortunately, he was more interested in winning rather than making a cohesive argument. At the end of every argument or disagreement, he had to be the victor. Eventually, I was able to hold my opinions against him. But this is how I devolve into this trap, I learned how to defend my already formed position, but not necessarily taking the time to flush out the details, or seek alternatives. I was taught and eventually saw it as a weakness to dawn a new opinion in the middle of the moment. I developed my method of defending myself over time growing after every confrontation. My vernacular grew as I senesce. This only increased my confidence incrementally. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I need to learn to say I do not know or I do not know enough to form a valid opinion before attempting to defend my stance. After all, it is more respectable to have no opinion rather than forming an opinion based on ignorance, fallacy argument, and or false beliefs. A quote that speaks volumes to me is, You cannot dig a hole in a different place by digging the same hole deeper. said by Dr de Bono. He uses this colloquial metaphor to project an image of an expert and or intelligent people digging a deep hole, but what should be is a series of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It simply means to trade something for something else and some ended up unhappy in the end. The items traded might be goods, services, relationships, methods or ideas. Although once the initial terms of a transaction have been settled, often disputes arise after the fact. Believe it or not Paid in full does not mean that the relationship ends for neither the buyer nor the seller. President Trumps desire to renegotiate NAFTA reinforces Steger s assertion that the conceptualization of globalization as a dynamic process rather than as a static condition Steger, 2000, p10). Simply put, Steger is saying what works today may not work tomorrow. Steger goes on to say that globalization is not one set of social processes. We are all constantly being propelled towards the condition of globality and that one defining the characteristic of the process: movement towards more intense forms of connectivity and integration Steger, 2000, p11). Mayer asserts that conflict is a basic part of the human condition. It has many roots and theoretical explanations of its origin. To give a rather simple explanation, conflict boils down to the human competition for recourses and power Mayer, 2000, p. 8). That being said, a conflict will always be a part of our globalized world. • 4. Eighty-Five Essays For High School Eighty five. The alarming shrieks originating from a little black box force me to awake from a deep slumber. Eighty five. Trudging through the dark and feeling the coarse plastered surface, my fingers follow the grooves of the wall until they find a metal button. My senses overload as a flood of light illuminates the porcelain toilet, the dripping faucets, and the hanging towels. Eighty five. My feet lead themselves, as if this has been done many times before, pressing down onto a small white box hidden in the shadows. The small box screams as one number flashes on the screen. Eighty five. My heart drops and I muster the strength to push on through the day, disregarding my frail frame in the mirror. I get dressed and rush to school. Passing through the bustling highways of students rushing to meet with teachers before the school bell rang, I zoom to my locker, and pull out a notebook and a pencil so that I could sit down, hidden in the black veil of isolation. To the freshman me, the pencil and paper was my escape from the sighs of disgust when remembering the flash of the black digits. • 5. The Round House Erdrich The novel The Round House revolves around the questionable morality of vengeance. Louise Erdrich, shares the tale of a young boy and his endeavor to gain vengeance for his mother s rape. Through the eyes of Joe Coutts, a story of crime and justice unfolds. Joe s aggression emerges after he discovers his mother, Geraldine, is raped. Consequently, Joe attempts to avenge his mother by locating the perpetrator, Linden Lark, and killing him. Does Joe s quest to find vengeance, justify his plot for murder? The moral conflict between justice and vengeance interferes with Joe s plan. Erdrich voices, I don t remember that they even looked at me or I at them after the shock of that first moment when we all realized we were old (317). Joe finds out the judge is uncertain whether Lark can be accused at all, this sparks Joe to carry on his own personal quest for retribution. This exemplifies the loneliness and fear that Geraldine has after the rape. Although, Geraldine is telling joe not to pursue Lark, this only fuels his emotion to seek vengeance. I ll do it. • 6. Holiday by Margaret Atwood Essay examples Holiday by Margaret Atwood Holiday by Margaret Atwood has a simple and familiar subject but the real meaning behind the simple story is hard hitting and in many ways it is a warning. She talks of a holiday and story shows how she is at a barbeque with her family in the countryside. However she interweaves a bleak image of our future within this straightforward story. It starts of with Atwood describing her daughter eating sausages. She uses the words barbarism and creates an image of burst meat dripping down her chin these words create a very primitive and uncivilized image. She describes them standing beneath a large leafed tree with nature as their only protection. This scene ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We humans are too placid. like a breath, a footstep shows that the danger is creeping up slowly and softly but is without doubt there. She uses a juxtaposition in the next line saying, with its calm eye of fire calm and fire are 2 opposites as fire is never meant to be calm. She says that fire or danger is coming but very peacefully. The calm nothing carries with it an explosive danger, which we are ignorant to. She then comes back to present and describes the scene around her. She continues to depict her daughter eating and looking for berries. However the line grace plumps the berries, two or three hot and squashed in her fist seems to be a metaphor. I think that Atwood is saying simply that her daughter finds a Few dusty berries and then squashes them in her hand. However its profound meaning seems to be that grace or blessing from god has made the berries round and juicy, they slowly became dusty and now man destroys it so frivolously. It is a metaphor showing nature and how man treats it presently, without much care. She also says the blades of grass are still with us , as she remembers that we still have grass and expresses gratitude. The last stanza is clearly a warning where she says that so far we have destroyed nature carelessly and for fun, but we have already ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Personal Stereotypes Although our personal stereotypes and biases greatly impact our view of others and the world around us, is it reasonable to believe that our mental inclinations can also render substantial influence in the lives of the people we judge? Today when we hear and use the word stereotype , it is usually within a negative context; it carries a negative charge. However, there are those who persist in asserting the positive effects of stereotypes. As was discussed earlier, stereotypes are convenient for situations where we need to execute swift judgments and lack the time to properly assimilate and process thoroughly; they are helpful in regards to self preservation and efficient functioning. Asian Americans are thought to achieve a higher degree of success than the average population. Asian American students are expected to achieve high marks, play instruments, aspire to be a physician, and set ambitious goals; they are stereotyped as the model minority. This stigma seems like it should be a compliment to hard work, but it permeates their lives far beyond the surface level. These students set incredibly high standards for themselves, and are conditioned to accept nothing short of perfection in the work that they do. The overwhelming stress of living up to the highest standards causes students to suffer psychological, emotional, and academic costs, and they begin to measure their self worth by quantitative achievement; poor performance is indicative of inferiority. These attitudes are ingrained during developmental years and persist in later years. The model minority creates an illusion of perfect Asian American students who feel emotionally isolated and hopeless because their needs become neglected and ignored. Students refuse to seek help in times of need because doing so seems like admitting failure. When Asian American students fail to meet academic goals and standards, they suffer from feelings of shame and inadequacy. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

At present, Pennsylvania does not face the water shortages that warrant water relocation, however, if surface and groundwater withdrawals increase it could push Pennsylvania closer to considering installing more hydrological alterations and exacerbate the problems that currently face the nation as a whole. There is a clear demand for water in locations that do not naturally have an adequate supply. Water diversion projects serve their purpose in providing water for individual consumers as well as for irrigation and industry. However, as illustrated in this paper, there are severe consequences that arise when disrupting the natural flow of water the ecosystem around it. To mitigate some of the consequences national geographic has suggested restricting the construction of dams, providing incentives for farming business to reduce the use of pesticides, establishing protected wetlands areas, and regulating water withdrawal for human use (Freshwater Threats, 2016). I always need someone to show me how to do the tumbling pass or demonstrate how the cheer routine is done to really understand and internalize what I need to do. • 13. Narrative Of The Life Of Frederick Douglass, An American... In 1845 Frederick Douglass published his first book Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave. This book not only showed people what life was truly like in the eyes of a slave, but it became instrumental in propelling the abolitionist movement and helping it gain motion all across the country. Douglass was truly a revolutionary person because throughout the duration of slavery, African American people were not permitted to be educated. This was considered dangerous. It wasn t until Frederick Douglass was moved to Boston, where slaves were treated more like people instead of cattle, that he learned to read and write. When Frederick was 20 years old he escaped to Massachusetts and began to learn more about the abolitionist movement; this lead to him writing his first book. None of this would have been possible, however, without Douglass learning how to read and write. Education is a major key in lifting people of color out of oppression. The wife of Douglass s master began teaching him to read as he was just a boy at the time and he appealed to her humanity. When Hugh Auld, Douglass s master, found out about what his wife was doing he became livid and forbade her to teach him anymore. Auld said that if she taught him to read he would become ...unmanageable, and of no value to his master. And that it would make Douglass ...discontented and unhappy. Because the amount of money they had was getting smaller and smaller, the Medici power began to weaken. Luckily, Cardinal Giovanni de Medici had become Pope Leo X in 1513. Giovanni, Pope Leo X, was able to make the family wealthy again by selling the freedom from punishment of sins. Starting now, the Medici family turned its attention from the banking business to the business of the church. In 1523, Giulio, son of Giuliano and cousin of Giovanni, became Pope Clement VII. Jig is a young, modern woman who is faced with the decision of prolonging her freedom and the stability of her relationship or accepting motherhood and the responsibility that comes with it. It is not to say that motherhood is a prison; it is that motherhood would be the death of everything she loved, mainly travelling, and the very stability of her relationship with her lover, the American . The American says, That s the only thing that bothers us. It s the only thing that s made us unhappy. (Hemingway 115) which unequivocally shows that the center of conflict inside of their relationship is the presumed pregnancy. There are several instances in the story that the American reiterates Jig s options for her future. Although he expresses that he would support and love her no matter what the ultimate choice is, she feels conflicted and her pain, which builds throughout the story and as the conversation progresses, becomes more obvious. What is most interesting is, as his second thoughts about the unspoken abortion spike, her resistance to discuss the topic any further grows in tandem. Although the two heroes love for one another is evident, there is the aching uncertainty between them: Is there room for a child in their relationship built of travelling, drinking, and discovery? Jig s repression, just like Miss Emily s, is inevitable because of their presented circumstance. These ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Its second installment, Crown of Midnight, follows Celaena as she spars with her loyalty. One grievous night forces her to choose allies and foes. To emphasize the focal idea, Maas utilizes themes of rebellion, oppression, and death. First and foremost, a crucial theme embedded is rebellion. The King of Adarlan is recognized as a megalomaniac, from his own son to the prisoners in Callaculla. He is on a quest to conquer all of Erilea. But in order to do so, he is in need of somebody to do all of his dirty work, and that is when Celaena comes into the light. Her task is to kill the King s enemies. Conversely, she disobeys direct orders. I haven t killed any of the people the king commanded me to assassinate (184). When she consults it with her friend Chaol, he is livid. If the king finds out, he will force Chaol to kill Celaena as punishment for being her friend. Chaol attempts to talk sense into Celaena by calling those men traitors to the crown. Sarah M. Coyne (Brigham Young University), Jennifer Ruh Linder (Linfield College), Eric E. Rasmussen (Texas Tech University), and David A. The audience for the author s message is a wide range of groups and individuals, but, at its widest scope, the research project is intended for multinational media corporations, specifically those of whom are based in the United States, target the control group (preschoolers and kindergarteners), and have the opportunity to incorporate gender stereotypical characters into their products.
