How The Mac Is A Medium Access Control Protocol
Introduction : This paper discusses about the S MAC , which is a Medium Access Control
Protocol used in wireless sensor networks . The protocol proposed in the paper is mainly inspired
by PAMAS . The important goals of this protocol is to conserve energy and configure by itself or
known as scalability . It is entirely different from traditional mac protocols like ieee 802.11. The
protocol uses three primary techniques to support energy conserving and self configuration . they
periodically sleep to minimize energy consumption , then formation of virtual clusters by neighbor
nodes for auto synchronization on sleep times and radios are also set to sleep during transmissions
of other node . Then S mac uses message passing and in channel... Show more content on

2)periodic listen and sleep : in this the listen time is reduced by letting go the node into periodic
sleep .
a)basis scheme : in this node goes to sleep for a specified time and then wakes up to listen if any
node wants to communicate with it . A timer is set during sleep and the radio of the node is also
turned off . A periodic synchronization is between neighbor nodes for their correct clock timings
. Two techniques are used to synchronization one is timestamps exchanged are relative other than
being absolute. Another technique is listen is period is longer than clock error or drift . To
reduce control overhead neighbor nodes should be preferred to synchronize together . to be noted
that all neighboring nodes cant synchronize together . then all nodes broadcast their schedule to
all its immediate neighbors this for ensuring that all neighbor can talk with different schedule
times . If multiple nodes want to talk to a node , this can be done by contention mechanism using
request to send and clear to send packets . here first come first serve basis , node which send first
will grab the medium . here the formation of nodes are done in flat topology .
b)choosing and maintaining schedules : each node maintains its own schedule table where its
neighbor nodes schedule are stored. First node listens for a particular time , if it is not hearing
from another node it randomnly goes to sleep with broadcasting a SYNC message .

the nearby Mt. Moran.
On the Pitchstone Plateau of Yellow stone, a hiker in August can find patches of last winter s
snow in the shade of the ledges, if they aren t already covered by the new snows of autumn. The
annual temperature at Lake Ranger Station in Yellowstone is 33В° F, just a little above freezing.
The most striking examples of Yellowstone s deep cold are Yellowstone and Lewis lakes that
remain frozen most years from December to late May. Often Lewis Lake melts in early June.
Winter weather in northwest Wyomingis brisk. Temperatures around 40В° F mostly occur at Old

This Face Changes The Human Story Analysis
Since Naledi has human and australopithecines features I think she should be placed 2 3 million
years ago. I believe Naledi was an early Homo that was in the early stages of the body evolving. In
the article This Face Changes the Human Story. But How? it states that Parts of the skeletons
looked astonishingly modern. But others were just as astonishingly primitive in some cases, even
more apelike than the australopithecines. That means that in that certain group you had a mix of
modern humanlooking and ape like creatures. They were most likely fond of each other like a
family which is why they put them in what seems a burial site. If it is a burial site, then it must
have been in that area for quite some time. Once all the bones were laid

Frederick Douglass, The Most Famous African American...
Frederick Douglass is the most famous African American abolitionists and the greatest American
orators. Throughout American history, African Americans were victims of American governmental
policies of harsh slavery. However, Frederick Douglass transforms the way people should
understand slavery. He takes charge of upholding slaveryto himself and defends the freedom for
those in slavery. While other African Americans did not have a voice, he became the voice for
African American slavery. In this way, Frederick Douglass is a mental and physical hero
because of his courage and achieving freedom from slavery through his strength of character and
education. Frederick Douglass portrays himself as a physical and mental hero through courage in
his autobiography, beginning from slavery at birth to freedom of escape. He refuses to accept
anything less than his own physical, spiritual, and intellectual freedom. Moreover, he never
hesitates to focus on his determination. According to the Litigation, one of the first acts of
courage in Douglass life is teaching other slaves to read the New Testament with over forty
people attending his classes. His master retaliates against his courage by sending him to another
owner (Mr. Covey) who has a reputation for breaking courageous slaves. At that moment during
his time with Mr. Covey, Douglass fights back because of this spirit that comes to him. That spirit
is his courage. He gains courage to impose the effects of slavery and

Consequences Of Colonization Of Africa
Through the19th century to the start of the 20th century, Africa was at the mercy of Europe
imperialism. Politics and economics led powerful European nations to colonize the continent of
Africa. What was later coined as The Scramble for Africa , led powerful nations to aggressively
take over the continent and exploit its materials, people, and land. The European powers that took
control of most of Africaincluded Britain, France, Germany, Belgium, Italy, Portugal, and Spain.
The continent was divided and given to these European countries in 1884 through the Berlin
Conference. The brutal rule by imperial command created a continent that still to this day deals
with the lasting presence of the European takeover. Although not all effects of imperialism were
bad or malicious, many were leaving an image of the era as psychologically damaging to Africans
as well as to the land in general. Whether the effects of colonization left the continent in better or
worse shape than it would have been without European imperialism, the colonization of Africa is a
part of history that will remain infamous so long as it is remembered It is common for people to
assume that all of African colonialismwas the same. While most of the process of colonizing the
continent did involve a lot of tragedy and hardship, the type of government set up was inherently
different depending on the country that inhabited an area. For example South Africa was settled in
the late 18th century originally by Dutch

A. Similarities:
Benito Mussolini
Adolf Hitler
Decisions of the Paris Peace Conference
Italy joined the First World War in 1915. Yet after the war Britain, France and other victorious
allies did not fulfill their territorial promises as stated in the Treaty of London. Italians felt cheated.
Since the Italian government failed to fight for the gains, it was deemed incompetent. Mussolini
who promised revival of the glory of the ancient Roman Empire naturally got popular support.

It faced the problems similar to those of Italy. There were 9 cabinets in 1920 28. Moreover,
Germany was unified by Bismarck. It inherited from Prussia the tradition of authoritarianism and
contempt for democracy. German people were dissatisfied with the inefficient administration of the
Weimar government. In addition, the Weimar Constitution vested too much power in the hands of
the President, which increased the chance for Hitler to become a dictator.
Postwar Economic Difficulties
Production came to a halt in Italy after the war. Over one million people became unemployed.
Besides, 2.5 million soldiers had returned and waited for jobs. Italy also owed a huge amount of
war debts. There was hyper inflation. Enterprises and factories closed down. The economy was
going to collapse. People longed for a saviour.
Other than war debts, Germany was also burdened with the huge indemnity imposed by the Treaty
of Versailles. No money was available for reconstruction. The mark dropped in value horribly
when the French troops occupied the Ruhr district in 1923. Although Stresemann could overcome
the economic hardship for the time being with American aid, the Great Depression of 1929 put
Germany in an economic crisis again. By 1932 6 million people were unemployed. People had no
hope for the Weimar Republic.
Threat of Communism

My sister Candice and I were sitting in silence as the plane started to take off. As they had
announced before it was a full flight so Candice and I met a guy named Townsin and we talked
the whole flight. He showed us some magic tricks and Candice tried to do one, but she failed to
do so. When we landed in Omaha we said goodbye to our new friend and continued on our new
adventures. We had to wait for our friend Savannah to come and pick us up at the airport and
take us to the hotel where we were all staying. Savannah was working at the Olympic trials so
she and her dad Chuck had came a week earlier to help out. Chuck is the CEO of USA

to see some more of Omaha. We walked around and there was a big lake and they had stepping

Good People, by David Foster Wallace Essay
David Foster Wallace s Good People, is a very touching, powerful story about a young, unwed,
Christian couple facing an extremely difficult decision and the moral and religious implications
that may result. As the story begins, we are allowed into the head of Lane Dean, a college student,
as he sits on a park bench with his girlfriend, Sheri. Lane and Sheri find themselves faced with an
unplanned pregnancy, which causes them to battle with several moral and religious dilemmas.
Both of them are devout Christians who have built their moral beliefs upon God and their religious

When Wallace writes ...the air suffused with honeysuckle and lilacs both, which was almost too
much (1) readers can literally almost catch a whiff of the honeysuckle and lilacs in the air.
Wallace s precise and purposeful style of language allows us to get a true feeling for Lane, our
protagonist, and the terror, desperation and nervousness he feels in making a horribly difficult
decision. He hated himself for sitting so frozen. He could almost visualize himself tiptoeing past
something explosive. A big stupid looking tiptoe, like in a cartoon. The whole last black week had
been this way and it was wrong (1) portrays the sheer terror and desperation that Lane is feeling.
Wallace tells this story from a limited omniscience point of view, only allowing us into Lane s
head. This point of view complements Lane s character as well as the tone of this story as it
helps to set the frightened and worried mood of the story as it permits us, as readers, to
experience the inner conflict and desperation that Lane is feeling. The setting, in my opinion,
has hints of foreshadowing that work nicely with Lane s inner conflict. When Wallace writes
[t]hey were up on a picnic table at that park by the lake, by the edge of the lake... (1) the word
edge prompts a feeling that the story is on the verge of change. When Wallace writes of springtime
and storms , it provokes a feeling of newness and change. In my opinion, all of the literary elements

As part of Dance Houston 2013 , the Ndani was performed on April sixth of the year two

dancers, among which Otis Berry, was choreographed by ShatГ© Edwards. Miss Edwards has
an engaged, skillful, and powerful style. Her background includes jazz, tap, stepping, modern
and more. She is a Houston, Texas native, who attended college in Atlanta, Georgia, and has

performed by a group of eight dancers composed of seven females and one male. The dancers are
all wearing shirts with sleeves rolled up to the elbows and pants also with the bottom rolled up to
about the middle of the tibia; females are wearing a tie while the male has a waistcoat on. The dance
is executed without any soundtrack; the rhythm is given by the taps of the dancers on the floor of
the stage and on their own body; some words are often sporadically pronounced with or without
forming a complete sentence. The dance begins with a dark stage, and only the taps and claps of...

One of the most popular measures is the balanced scorecard (BSC). The BSC strikes a balance
between financial and nonfinancial measures (Horngren, Sundem, Stratton, 2008, p. 401) and is
used by about 50% of the top 1,000 United States firms. To develop this system, Guillermo needs
to decide what the responsibility centers are and how performance is measured and
acknowledged. He will also need to define the key performance indicators; financials, customers,
internal processes, and employee growth and learning. The primary goal of a control system
such as BSC is to develop the financial and nonfinancial measurements critical to the firm s
growth and profitability. In business, it is all a circle, where employee and customer satisfaction
proves to play large roles in the ultimate success, or lack there of, of a firm. Guillermo, by
implementing a BSC, on a limited scale, will have better control of these factors. Financially, by
using the BSC, firms monitor changes to productivity, quality, and cycle time. Although it is
usually not financially feasible to measure every aspect of these controls separately, the more that
can be monitored, managers will be able to control what is within their ability to control.
Guillermo will need to be careful to establish a system of monitoring performance that allows him
to see how manager s performance is lining up with controllable costs, such as employee hours,

Ashwin-Jadeja Essay
Ashwin Jadeja s performance in this series so far
Cricket has always been a game majorly dominated by batsman and producing good bowlers was
always a challenge. When it came to spin bowling it was a bigger challenge; spin was always
considered more of an art, It requires more patience and character. It is more of deceiving batsman
with variations, loop and the dip rather than terrorizing the batsman with pace. Slowly over the
years there has been a change, captains have started recognizing it as more of wicket taking option,
the pitches have started yielding results too which has brought all the options into the game. Indian
spin bowling has never looked so special or watchable in last 4 5 years when compared to last year

way Vettori gave it a loop. Ashwin has been phenomenon, if there is anything that he can
improve is his patience, he at times doesn t get the wicket early in his spell but that is fine,
happens with most spin bowlers. I hope these 2 prove to be handy when we tour Eng, Aus or
SA. Considering that we still have 6 test matches to be played in home and these 2 have a great
chance to add more wickets and win matches for India. These 2 are promising, these 2 are the

Analysis Of Drown By Junot Diaz
Junot DГaz, unlike most authors, has an ability to tell his stories without the use of large,
descriptive passages. With only a few words he can immerse his readers into the environment of
his stories, such as the subject work, Drown. Whether in a comfortable suburb or a decrepit
neighborhood, Junot Diaz is skilled in producing active scenes with minimal words in his piece
Drown. As Barbara Stewart writes about Junot s work in Outsider with a Voice, The New Jersey
of which [Junot] writes is the one he knows: a place of blue collar towns and Latino immigrants,
of tostones (mashed fried plantains) and malls and roads where beer bottles grow out of the weeds
like squashes (New York Times, 8 Dec. 1996). I agree with Stewart s assertion that, [Junot] writes
about the [place] he knows because of his rich environmental descriptions, and the way he uses this
information to provide context within Drown. DГaz uses his language to immerse the readerinto his
works. One chapter within Drown that illustrates this well is Aurora , a chapter centered on the life
of drug dealer Lucero and his romantic endeavors with a questionable woman named Aurora. DГaz
uses his careful word choice to illustrate the story setting, to provide context clues, and to provide a
deeper meaning to the text in Aurora . An example of when DГaz uses his style of language to
illustrate setting is when he describes Aurora s messy living arrangements with druggies; Diaz
placed great emphasis on common

US and Russia relations after the defeat of the USSR:
The end of Cold War brought new challenges to Russian life, economy and politics. Actually, the
post Cold War period opened the new opportunities for
Russia. Democracy made its first steps in the country. After seventy years of communism Russian
people finally got a chance to live how the want, to say what they want and to do what they want.
People got a chance to choose their own leader, to vote for the Congress members. And it was very
confusing for the country. Russia needed somebody to come out and help in this critical situation.

Each year Americans were increasing the sales of their own products on the Russian market. As I
said earlier, Russia devoted itself to the new type of the economy; with private sector businesses.
But what they could do with all those weapons produced during the Soviet era? And the way out
was found. Russia became the biggest exporter of military ammunition on the world market. The
exports of oil also put Russia on the leading positions in the world. Everything was going just fine.
quot;Russia was moving from pure stabilization to the resumption of economic

The only one thing that was bothering both countries, especially Russia, was the growth of Russian
mafia. In the middle 90 s the level of corruption in the Russian government was very high. Mafia
controlled everything; starting from stores, which pay some percent of their income every month,
and ending with police, which was completely under control of the mafia. The power of mafia
really bothered American businessmen, who didn t want to pay them and didn t want to get shot by
mafia. And since they refused to pay, the number of American businessmen shot in Russia was
growing. But this doesn t really stops Americans from doing business in Russia.
The other problem that Americans were concerned about is nuclear potential of Russia. During the
leadership of the communism the USSR produced huge number of nuclear

The Yellow Wall Essay
The Yellow Wall was published in 1892 by Charlotte Perkins Stetson. The story was written as a
semi autobiographical short story about an unnamed narrator that describes the treatment of women
during this time frame. It takes place in a county rental home where her husband has taken her for
some treatment from an illness that she supposedly has. Through ethos, pathos, and logos I will
review the story and show the reader that in fact the unnamed narrator was not mentally ill when
she arrived at the county home but did in fact become mentally ill through the treatment that was

Air Force Core Values
In the early 1990 s the Chief of staff, Merrill A. McPeak, originally posted the six core values of
the United States Air Force which consisted of integrity, tenacity, courage, patriotism, competence,

three core values; integrity first, service before self, and excellence in all we do were officially
embraced by the United StatesAir Force in January of 1995 in order to define the type of character

The Air Force defines integrity as always doing what is right even when no one is looking
(United States Air Force core values, 1997). Integrity itself is built off of many different key
traits; honesty, kindness, generosity, courage, responsibility and having respect not only for
others but yourself as well. Those are just some of the key traits. I will give prime examples of
each trait mentioned above from my own personal life to help you better understand integrity.
The first trait I would like to review with you is honesty. There are many different aspects of
honestly. It could be as simple as telling someone how you really feel or admitting to a mistake
you may have made in your life. Several years back, I was riding my bicycle at a high rate of
speed and flew around a sharp corner. I came around the corner so fast that I crashed my bicycle

vehicle, but no one was around. I could have easily rode off and pretended it never happened,
though that would not have been the honest nor the right thing to do. I spoke with the owner of the
car and made arrangements to pay him back for the damage. Honesty is a key trait you must have

Literary Analysis of Dr. Seuss
Theodor Seuss Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss, is perhaps one of the most beloved children s
authors of the twentieth century. Although he is most famous as an author of children s books,
Geisel was also a political cartoonist, advertisement designer, and film director (Kaplan). He
used the power of imagination to produce unforgettable children s books and helped solve the
problem of illiteracy among America s children. By using his experiences in life as a foundation
for most of his books, Theodor Geisel created a unique writing style that incorporated various
elements and techniques, enabling his books to appeal to people of all ages. The animated life of
Theodor Geisel is evident in his literary masterpieces. He was born on... Show more content on

As a noted perfectionist, he would work hours on his children s books. He once stated, The
creative process boiled down to two things В– time and sweat (qtd. in Krull 39). His writing style
remained unchanged throughout his lifetime; the way he wrote in general was a fill in the blank
approach and used whimsical language coupled with artless drawings (Kaplan). In several of his
children s books, Geisel adds more and more tension, building up to the climax only to end in an
anticlimactic way. For example, in The Cat in the Hat, suspense increases as the mess the Cat
makes becomes unmanageable. The illustrations add to this tension as the children s mother is set
to arrive. However, just before she enters the door, the mess is cleaned and sparkling new (Hurst).
Although his writing style has remained unchanged in his years of writing, Dr. Seuss was still able
to make reading fun and enjoyable to children. Theodor Geisel was among the first authors to put
illustrations equal with text, enabling his readers to follow the action and the story simultaneously
(Kaplan). True to his eccentric character and unique perspective, Seuss wanted to draw things as
[he] saw them (Kaplan). Surprisingly, he had strict guidelines on how to write children s books.
There was only one illustration per page and nothing could describe anything pictured. That way,
children can work out the story from the illustrations.

Essay The Contrast and Comparison of Crime in Our Society
.. Crime has diverse effects on society in various ways, shapes or form. These criminal effects are
impacted either on an individual basis or a continual basis in our everyday lives. These effects or
outcomes, if you will, are prevalent on our streets we live on, the neighborhoods we are in, and
even the states that we live in. The end result of crimes in our society has many different physical,
financial, and emotional impacts. Among those influenced are the public, the victim, and the Police/
Law Enforcement. Crimeand criminal activity in general are viewed in many different ways. The
opinion and outlook of crime differs in the view of the public, the victim, and for law enforcement.

them and they have suffered the most physically, financially, and emotionally. Physical or
monetary loss can either be replaced or forgotten, but the emotional stress and burden place
upon the victim cannot be erased. Victims of crime will suffer in different ways. A victim may
suffer a loss from money or possessions, but a severe pain would be an emotional loss. An
emotional loss can cause you to possibly lose sleep, lose confidence, and lose your outlook on
personal safety too. Victims of crime that have emotional effects might suffer by being scared that
it will happen to them again. They will live in constant fear that they will be violated again done
the road. This will then lead to them not feeling safe and secured in their own home or
neighborhood anymore. The crime that they were victimized by will cause them to worry and
eventually lose sleep over it. The victim of crime is impacted personally and deeper than society as
a whole. Although the crime might have happened within a certain area of a city, the real anguish
falls with the victim. The aspect of criminal activity is viewed much differently from the Law
enforcement standpoint. Law

their own beliefs so that they may be accepted by white settlers. Unfortunately for the Cherokee

women were told that they could no longer work in the fields but should work in the household as a

women settlers were lazy and they did not want their women to be the same way. Soon though
many Cherokee women began working in the household, cooking, cleaning, or sewing. The main
way Cherokees could be considered civilized was to accept Christianity. The U.S. government sent

Effects of different nutrient conditions on plant growth of wheat seeds
________________________________________
The objective of this investigation was to determine the effects of limiting nutrients on plant growth
in different treatment. Nutrient availability is an important factor in plant growth as it enhances the
processes taking place in the plants such as primary and secondary metabolic processes. In this
investigation, wheat plants were observed in different chemical treatments with limitations to
nutrients using statistical analysis. Students were required to scientifically determine whether or
not different nutrient conditions affected the overall plant growth over duration of time. The shoot
length and biomass of 20 random leaves grown in different chemical media s were measured and
this data was used to calculate statistical calculation such as the mean, standard deviation and t
value which was compared to the critical t value to determine whether or not the null hypothesis
was rejected. It was statistically calculated that the treatments that were nitrogen deficient and
phosphorus deficient had a p value greater than 0.05 and treatments that were water and potassium
deficient had a p value less than 0.05 in both the plants shoot length and biomass. This lead to the
conclusion that nitrogen deficient and phosphorus deficient treatments did have an effect on the
plant growth of wheat plants.

Mri Of The Knee Ligament Tear
MRI of the knee Anterior Cruciate Ligament Tear
Introduction
The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is an important structure in maintaining the normal
biomechanics of the knee and is the most commonly injured knee ligament. ACL tears may be
partial or complete. A partial tear can involve both or only a single bundle to varying degree, can
range from a minor tear involving just a few fibers to a high grade near complete tear involving
almost all of the ACL fibers.
Anatomy and physiology
The ACL originates from the medial and anterior aspect of the tibial plateau and runs superiorly,
laterally, and posteriorly toward its insertion on the lateral femoral condyle. Together with the
posterior cruciate ligament (PCL), the ACL guides the instantaneous center of rotation of the knee,
therefore controlling joint kinematics. To a lesser degree, the ACL checks extension and
hyperextension. The ACL is not as strong as the posterior cruciate ligament (PCL), and it is less
strong at its femoral origin than at its tibial insertion. Muscles surrounding the knee joint contribute
to knee stabilization during lower extremity movements.
Mechanism of injury
Mechanisms of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury are numerous. These injuries plague both
athletes and non athletes. ACL injury is most prevalent (1 in 1,750 persons) in patients 15 45
years of age. It is more common in this age group in part because of their more active lifestyle as
well as higher participation in sports.

I.Introduction: The Historical Roots of Hospice
In the 8th century, B.C. the Homeric times, all Greeks without exception were regarded as being
under the protection of Zeus Xenios, the god of strangers and supplicants. A wanderer would be
treated as a guest and offered food, shelter, clothing, and gifts. Violation of the duties of

The medical regime, health care organizations and the public are aware of these end of life issues,
therefore must prioritize it s needs. The American Medical Association and the Institute of
Medicine foundation has devoted millions of dollars to public education on this issue through the
Last Acts initiative. (Forman and Kitzes, et al 2003).
This is one reason so many patients enter hospice only in the last days of life. A more reasonable
approach would be to have a patient begin Palliative/Hospice care while receiving curative care.
The Center for Medicare Medicaid Services (CMS) is about to embark on a project to evaluate
whether providing hospice services earlier in an illness along with curative care, improves quality
of life for patients while reducing Medicare spending.
If Palliative/Hospice care were to be provided soon after a terminal diagnosis, there would be

of admission to a Palliative/Hospice program. This short length of stay compromises the quality of
care that hospice offers.

Essay on Why I Support Banning Smoking in Public Places
Some businesses prefer that no one smoke cigarettes in any of their offices. Most governments
have banned smoking in all public places. Based on personal experience, personality style and
emotional concern, we find that some hold the notion that smoking in public places should be
banned. Meanwhile, others want to be as free as possible and do as they please, as long as their
actions do not violate the rights of others. From my point of view, it is more sensible to ban smoking
in public places rather than allow second hand smoke to continue to harm people nearby, who
breathe in the smoke. The main reason for my partiality to banning smoking in public places is
that second hand smoke can cause disease as well as death in adults and children... Show more

Banning smoking in public places is debatably unfair to smokers. This takes away from their
freedom, however, not banning it is unfair to those that do not smoke, and puts their health in
danger. Smoking makes it unsafe for them to go to public places. For example, in restaurants
and other public areas the smoke does not remain solely in the smoking section. Having a
smoking section and a nonsmoking section in a building is better than mixing everyone
together. However, if we drop dye into water, doesn t it spread? Smoke has the same effect and
anyone who has ever paid attention to it will notice that fact. Smoke spreads from the smoking
section all through the building in the air, therefore, spreading the dangers with it. For this
reason, smoking should not be allowed in public places. The argument I support in the first
paragraph is also in a position of benefit because the Surgeon General s Report concluded,
scientific evidence indicates that there is no risk free level of exposure to secondhand smoke.
Short exposures to secondhand smoke can cause blood platelets to become stickier, damage the
lining of blood vessels, decrease coronary flow velocity reserves, and reduce heart rate variability,
potentially increasing the risk of heart attack (http://www.lungusa.org/site/pp.asp?c=dvLUK9O0E

parents today are putting to much emphasis on what the media and medical journals are saying,

By acknowledging the other viewpoint, the author can still present her argument and not offend the

effectively attracts the readers attention and explains the main point of the rest of the article.
I noticed that in this article, Parker challenges the media s representation on the effectiveness of
early childhood development by stating that you should not change how you raise your child
based on trivial news articles. Parker lists sources: Newsweek, the Clintons, and books about
early development, as causes for parents to go overboard on developing their young children. The
point that Parker is trying to get across is that these articles are not reasons for society to change
their parental habits. The author is saying that the news articles can not prove one way or the other
that teaching your child early in life gives them the advantage. Just because an article says that in
some cases child development is effective, it doesn t mean that it is true or appropriate to change
the way you are teaching your two year old. Parker s technique is to debunk the idea of these
sources, and to get the reader to believe in her side.To further her persuasive article, the author
wanted to show that the media can not prove one way or the other that teaching your child early

Defining Exit Polls And Opinion Polls
Defining Exit polls and Opinion Polls: Exit poll: A poll taken of a sample of voters as they leave
a polling place, used especially to predict the outcome of an election or determine the opinions
and characteristics of the candidates supporters . How Exit poll works: Conducting national exit
polls is an enormous undertaking, requiring as long as two years to implement. The goal of the
process is to collect information on a subset of voters that can be projected to the entire active
electorate with a high degree of confidence. Numerous obstacles, though, stand in the way,
threatening to undermine the effort and bias the results. Exit polls, like most surveys, unfold in
four distinct but often overlapping stages / Research ers usually begin by developing procedures
for drawing a probabilistic sample of voters whose responses can be inferred to the active
electorate with a high degree of confidence. They develop a questionnaire, capable of both
describing the types of voters participating in an election as well as offering insights into the
reasoning behind their choices. Interviewers are trained and eventually employed to disseminate
the questionnaires to and collect them from sampled voters on Election Day. The process
concludes with the integration of voters responses into a data set for analysis. The specific
procedures used for each stage vary by polling organization; therefore, I focus my discussion on
those procedures developed by Warren Mitofsky, Murray Edelman,

Positive And Negative Effects Of The 18th Amendment
January 19th of 1919 marks the era of the nation wide alcohol prohibition in America. The
ratification of the Eighteenth Amendment banned the manufacture, sale, and transportation of
alcohol in the United States, which caused majors shifts in society and the nation as a whole.
Several years later, in 1933, the Twenty First Amendment was added to the U.S. Constitution and
repealed the Eighteenth Amendment. As stated in Section 1 of Amendment XXI, The eighteenth
article of amendment to the Constitution of the United States is hereby repealed (U.S.
Constitution). While both the Eighteenth Amendment and the Twenty First Amendment brought
major changes to America, the Eighteenth Amendment had more of a negative effect on the nation
than the Twenty First because the economy and public health both declined, and crime rates
skyrocketed. In 1928, President Herbert Hoover described prohibition as, A great social and
economic experiment, noble in motive and far reaching in purpose (Hoover). Unfortunately, the
Eighteenth Amendment was only a failed experiment. First of all, the Eighteenth Amendment
negatively impacted the economy. Initially, prohibition supporters anticipated a variety of markets
to boom. However, historian Michael Lerner, states, Prohibition supporters were initially surprised

Demonstrate understanding of a significant event in the classical world.
In 79 AD the towns of Pompeii and Herculaneum were destroyed by the eruption of Mount
Vesuvius.
Mount Vesuvius is a stratovolcano which means its eruptions typically involve explosive eruptions
as well as a pyroclastic flow. When the volcano erupted it launched tonnes of molten ash and
pumice into the atmosphere which then fell on the towns burying them and the people inside them
under about five metres of ash. The pyroclastic flow itself only reached the town of Herculaneum
and not Pompeii.
Mount Vesuviushas erupted many times in the past in classical times as well as within the last few
centuries. The 79 AD eruption was a plinian eruption. We know this... Show more content on

Julia Felix was a wealthy woman who after the earthquake in 62 AD, converted part of her villa
into apartments which she rented out to families who may have lost their homes and therefore
gives us insight into the lives of many different families that lived there. The paintings on the walls
of the villa such as the one to the left, show us daily life in Pompeii, schools, markets, even more
information about what it might have been like in Pompeii back then.
The way the people in Pompeii decorated and made their houses tells us a lot about the kind of
people they were and the lives they lead. Wall paintings such as the one to the left, as well as
mosaics preserved by the ash show us mostly mythological scenes but even these show us certain
elements of life in Pompeii and Herculaneum such as furniture, clothing, food and leisure activities
even if the figure in question was a god or goddess. As both Pompeii and Herculaneum were a part
of the Roman Empire we can conclude that the style of houses and decorations would be similar
throughout the entire Roman Empire.
Religion in Pompeii and Herculaneum, as well as the rest of the Roman Empire, was very

Maggie, A Girl Of The Streets
In Stephen Crane s Maggie, a Girl of the Streets, the reader is given key insight into the daily
lives of a family that is torn apart due to their social environment. The story takes place in a
poverty stricken area called Rum Alley, which is located in the Bowery. The protagonist Maggie
Johnson and her brother Jimmie are shaped by the society that they live in and the interactions
they have. Maggie and Jimmie have abusive, alcoholic parents who constantly berate their kids
for no good reason, resulting in Jimmie becoming an alcoholic and an abusive womanizer.
Maggie was also affected by her social environment, but not in the same way as Jimmie. She was
seduced by a boy named Pete and was overwhelmed with the idea that she too could become...

In the beginning of the novella, it seems as though Jimmie just naturally has a short fuse and is
ready to pick a fight at moments notice, but as the story progresses, the reader comes to the
realization that Jimmie s family is torn apart and fighting constantly, affecting Jimmie in a very
negative way. Even as a child, Jimmie was found in the streets picking fights with other kids his
age. As Jimmie was fighting, his friends egged him on, saying, Smash im Jimmie, kick d face off
im! (Crane 4). He mirrors what he sees in the tenement building he calls home, as his mother resorts
to violence to enforce anything of her liking or to reprimand her children. Jimmie s violent
tendencies were not the only thing he picked up from his mother and father. As Jimmie grows up,
he starts getting involved with alcohol, increasing not only his violent tendencies, but also
increasing the number of flings he has, flirting and seducing women all the time and leaving them
heartbroken after a short period of time, just like his father. Jimmie s behaviour and mannerisms are
dictated based off of his social environment, mainly his household, and it further emphasizes that
Jimmie s social environment strongly influences the way his life turns out and the way he

The Role Of Masculinity In Disney And Pixar
Characterized to Be Emasculated
Questioning the masculinity within male characters of Disney/Pixar, by watching their son s
perspective on the film Cars, in Post Princess Models of Gender: The New Man in Disney/Pixar,
Ken Gillam and Shannon R. Wooden examine multiple movies and point out that the leading male
characters in Cars, Toy Story, and The Incredibles, are victims of emasculation. Prior to Disney
/Pixar releasing nine movies, Disney conveyed all its main male characters to be alpha male (472).
However, Pixar opened new types of characters, those that led to having the characters masculinity
stripped by another supporting character in the film. The authors draw attention from the strong
male model to the New Man (476) role. Gillam and Wooden focus on the main male characters in
each of the movies who all start with a high machismo personality, which rapidly transitions into an
effeminate identity.
Buzz, Woody, Mr. Incredible, and Lighting McQueen all assumed they were going to achieve the
alpha male (472) status, by isolating from their friends and family, and becoming agitated towards
any forces that challenged their power. Each of these characters quickly realized the alpha male
qualities were not going to help them achieve what was expected. The authors point out that the
main emotions that the characters possess in the beginning of the movies is anger and frustration
(474). Why did Disney originally limit the emotions that men can feel? The

My First Experience On Wordpress
During the course of this module I became familiar with a plethora of interfaces including
WordPress, ImgFlip, Giphy, Instagram, and Buzzfeed. With each interface, I had to adapt my own
knowledge and understanding to find success within it. Interfaces are rather diverse. These are the
programs in which people navigate through in the digital world. WordPress is an interface people
can utilize to develop a website revolving around their own interests and ideas. This all gets a little
more complicated when we throw Interface Literacy into the mix. Interface Literacy is the ability to
take any previous understanding and know how you may have to successfully develop that amongst
a multitude of other mediums.
During the class, we had to take what we learned about certain genres and interfaces and created
blog posts on WordPress to discuss those ideas. This was my first experience on this site.
Truthfully, I was intimidated by this interface. It took me about twenty minutes to figure out how
to discard that sample blog post they give to every new user. After that, it took another 20 minutes
to figure out how to post my first blog effectively. Don t even ask me how I figured out how to
change the theme of my site. I m still not entirely sure how it worked out. Despite all of these
mishaps, I struggled through and successfully posted the five required blogs for the module.
Interface literacy begins with what you already know, but it develops with the struggle through

Boosting Chilean Wine Brand Through Montgras
(a) To what extent can MontGras control its own market position, as opposed to being dominated
7by the country of origin effect, and be perceived as a Chilean Wine ?
Changing the overall image of its companies wines are added to its market positioning strategy.
Even though the branding as a Chilean Wine is easily applied onto MontGras, there are many
factors in its control which can make sure that the company dominates the market by having a
bigger share as it wants to. MontGras though being smaller than some Chilean wineries, it has
been able to stand out due to its interest in high quality wines. The company wants to establish
itself as the low price yet high quality provider of wines. This is directly related to the seeds, the soil

Thus, Cabo imports are the best option for MontGras at the moment.
The UK market with respect to MontGras:
Unlike the fragmented US market, the UK was not tiered and it was also one of the most
competitive export sources in the World. One major point to consider in this market is the tax
that is levied on alcoholic drinks which is 1 pound per bottle regardless of the retail price. This
would also mean that the export of Reservas would be more beneficial as compared to Varietals
(this is in line with the company s strategic decisions as well). Again in this case, MontGras has 2
options to decide in terms of partners. The first one is the distributor that the company has been
having for a while now (since 1996). The distributor had helped MontGras gain a good position in
restaurants and other retail market too (on premise and off premise). The second option is the
leading supermarket chain Tesbury, which with the help of few promotions made the total sales
skyrocket in just a few days.
The most likely option to choose would be the currently existing distributor since completely
siding with Tesbury would majorly go against the positioning strategy planned out by MontGras.
Also in my opinion, the high volume in sales (at Tesbury) was only due to the promotion event
which is just temporary (3 days) and we will have to look into the big picture i.e. sales round the
year.

The Influence Of A-Ha Moments In The Film Fried Green...
Have you ever experienced a moment in your life when everything seems to fit together and
make sense? These moments of insight and realization are known as A ha moments . They can
be triggered by arbitrary events or words and may not even create an impact on your life until a
later time. A ha moments can effect major aspects of life including career, relationships with
family and friends, or even lifestyle. An example of an A ha moment could be understanding a
topic in school that did not make sense until it was explained in a different way. Another
example could be as simple as realizing you will do better on a final exam if you study the
material throughout the semester. My A ha moment came while watching the film Fried Green
Tomatoes. There was one line in the film spoken by Evelyn Couch that stuck with me and gave
me insight into my own life. She said, I looked in the mirror and I didn t like what I saw. This
reflects Evelyn s self concept and revealed how unhappy she was in her life. Evelyn s lifestyle in
the beginning of the movie revolved around her husband and she found comfort in eating unhealthy.
After she spoke this... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

desired to live a healthier life but I was avoiding it because it required effort. To get in shape and

should not be avoided. Also, conflict is not a bad thing. In my personal case, conflict was a
motivator for me. I needed to encounter my inner conflict and realize it in order to make a
change. Again, the quote from the movie that said, I looked in the mirror and didn t like what I
saw motivated me. If I wanted to look in a mirror and feel confident about myself, I would have to
face this conflict in my life. My A ha moment also revealed to me that conflicts should not be

Essay on The Many Benefits of Genetically Modified Foods
Have you eaten any dairy products lately? If so, theres a large chance you have eaten genetically
modified foods without even knowing it. About 70 80% of all food are genetically modified in the
United States (Williams). Genetically modified foods benefit us, economically, environmentally,
and health wise. Although they may present health problems, no proof has been shown. GMOs are
very new to our world. There have been many protests against them lately as they continue to
expand and feed our growing population. European environmental organizations and public groups
have been against it for months. The U.S Food and Drug Administration also began worrying about

With crops being modified to kill weeds by itself, weed killing spray is no longer needed, which
saves a lot of money (Whitman 2). Salmon that is engineered to grow faster can help America s
fish farming business. This will save money because farm raised fish is very expensive
(Greenwood). In many ways GMOs are just as good for our planet as the people in it. Food that
has been modified stops pesticides from eating the crops which saves run off agricultural wastes
from excessive use of pesticides and fertilizers which can poison the water supply (Whitman 2).
Some plants have also been genetically engineered to help clean up pollution in the air. More
land is also becoming available for housing because plants can tolerate inhospitable places
(Whitman 3). Frankenfish , or genetically modified fish help fish stocks while also helping the
emptying fish supply (Greenwood). Even with all of the benefits it has to offer, not everyone is
a fan of GMOs. Many critics fear they can present problems to our health. Putting a new gene
into something may cause a serious allergic reaction. After eating GM foods many kids
developed serious allergies. This can be solved by making GM plants that don t make pollen. GM
foods also may have unknown effects on human health although nothing has been proven
(Whitman 7). Faster growing fish has been researched for over 20 years and not one person has
ever experienced an effect from the fish (Greenwood). Critics fear that Frankenfish

Indian Ball Game
Lacrosse is an exciting and fast paced sport with almost nonstop action from start to finish. The
strategy is simple. Players move a ball down a field using sticks with nets on them. A goal is
scored by hurling the ball past the other team s goaltender into an upright net. Lacrosse is played
at all levels of athletics. There are professional, amateur, and school teams, and there are
scholarships for those who play it in college.
Lacrosse was invented by American Indians in the 1400 s. Imagine if you went back in time six
hundred years to a game between Indian villages. The atmosphere was like a festival. There was a
dance before the game to celebrate the event. The players painted their bodies with symbols and

Nursing Shortage and Nurse Turnover
Nursing shortage and Nurse Turnover
The ongoing instability evidenced from the high mobility of qualified nurses in the nursing
workforce has raised many questions about the issue of nursing shortage and nurse turnover (Gates
Jones, 2007). The paper below discusses the issues of nursing shortage and nurse turnover. The
paper also describes how leaders as well as managers in the nursing fraternity and other leaders can
resolve those problems effectively and the different applicable principles, skills, roles of the leader,
and theories of leadership and management.
There are various factors that are contributing to the current nursing shortage and turnover.
Apparently the major contributing factors in the USA are a population of nurses that are getting
older without adequate replacement, there are fewer than expected faculties dedicated to nursing,
there are more career fields opening up particularly for women hence the alternative choices instead
of nursing, federal government s failure to fund the nursing education across the country, generally
unpleasant working conditions and terms, poor retention of the nurses as well as an overstretched
hence overworked nursing staff. According to Paller (2012), the nursing shortage in different
countries for example the United States tends not to be the only growing problem, but has also
become a complex one. Nursing shortage and nurse s turnover has become the worsening
predicament in the health care industry in the United

A food stylist prepares the frozen beef patties for the camera. The filming crew first spends two
hours setting up lights that will flatter the burger. The stylist begins burning flame broiling stripes
into the hamburger patties by using a special branding iron. The stylist then paints the stripes with a
dark steak sauce. Next, the stylist sprinkles salt on the burger so that when it passes over the
flames, natural juices will rise to the meat s surface.(Par.2)
Once branded, retouched, and juiced, the director films the burgers from different angles as they
move along a conveyor belt broiler. When the meat is broiled, blood rises to the surface in small
pools. The stylist dabs at the bubbling blood with a Q tip so that is doesn t look undesirable to TV
viewers. (Par.3)
Before the patty passes over the flame a second time, the stylist maneuvers a small electric heater
about an inch above the burger. This heats up the natural fatty juices until they begin to steam and
sizzle. Otherwise, puddles of grease will cover the meat. (Par.4)

If you look at a real Whopper closely, you ll discover that the flame broiling stripes are only on
the top side of the beef patty. Hamburgers are sent through the flame broiler once and never flipped
over. But on television commercials, the beef patty is fetchingly covered with flame broiled stripes.

To Kill A Mockingbird Analysis
To Kill A Mockingbird takes place during the 1930 s, a time of intense racial inequity and
prejudice. Harper Lee intends for the novel to display the harsh reality to the real world, and
exhibit how life and society were really like during this period in history. Humanity s views and
morals have shown little sign of ever being able to accept change or difference as seen in
particular issues such as racism, discrimination, sexism, prejudice etc. Whilst reading the novel,
readers can identify these well known problems and maybe even relate to some of the ideas that
Lee is portraying. Lee uses symbols to effectively communicate and express her thoughts and
opinions on the various themes of the book. Moreover, these symbols are able to tap into the
subconscious mind to implement ideas that can be analyzed in order to understand their
relevance to not only the plot line and major theme topics of the novel: appearance versus
reality, conscience and integrity, and loss of innocence, but also to modern society. At first
glance, Maycomb appears to be a quaint, peaceful town. Lee later proves this to be a common
misconception made by outsiders. Throughout the novel, we come to learn the true nature and
life of Maycomb. Underneath the picture perfect image, there is a disease spreading, infiltrating
and infecting the minds of Maycomb. (pg 117). Jem, I ain t ever heard of a nigger snowman, I said.
To this Jem replies with He won t be black for long. (Lee pg 89) The snowman is a

Summary Of The Movie Chances Of A Lifetime
In the movie Chances of a Lifetime they showed us a variety of ways that in an everyday life,
people use numbers, statistics, and make data. Some ways that we use this information is being
a doctor, baseball player and even a high school student. In baseball the manager uses statistics to
figure out what there hitters should bat and how it will affect the team as a whole. Ron Clark is
the manager for the Cubs, they were down by one and that when the statistics came into play. The
Cubs had one man on base and the next two hitters had fantastic hitting ratios therefore, Ron
looked at all the possibilities and decided to not bunt any balls. Ron s decision paid off and they
won that game ( section 1, Chances of a lifetime). This was

Understanding Students Responses From The Australian...
1.0 Introduction Educators are required to interpret students responses to mathematical questions.
The purpose of this report was to provide an opportunity to examine the step by step approach to
answering problems, interrogate the results and recognise mathematical concepts. There are six
questions in total from the Australian Curriculum Assessment Reporting Authority [ACARA],
(2012) NAPLAN year nine numeracy non calculator test. The six questions mentioned in the
report are question 12, 14, 16, 18, 22 and 23. Each issue is set out in the report in numerical
order with a screen shot of the methods used to solve the question followed by a reflection. The
reflection describes my feelings, confidence and approach towards each question along with the
type of mathematics used, the year level suitable for each question according to the ACARA
(2015) and alternative ideas for solving the six questions. 2.1 Question 12 Reflection Initial
thoughts were I could easily solve this because I use metric units on a regular basis for working
out distances for driving and dimensions of furniture. I knew millimetres were the smallest
followed by centimetres, metres and kilometres the largest (Lakin, 2011). That did not mean that
kilometre was the answer. I understood that converting the units would help solve the question but
could not remember how to do conversions. Once I refreshed my knowledge as discussed before

Soft Drink and Coca Cola
Coca Cola s New Vending Machine (A) Case Questions
1. Is selling Coke through interactive vending machines a good or bad idea? Explain your
answer. It is a good idea to sell Coke through interactive vending machines. Over the last three
years, the soft drinking giants have watched their earnings erode as they waged a price war in
supermarkets. Vending machines have remained largely untouched by the discounting. Sales of
soft drinks from vending machines have risen steadily over the last few years, though most sales
still take place in supermarkets. Last year, about 11.9 percent of soft drink sales worldwide were
from vending machines. Vending machines require low cost for companies. Company can just

Therefore, it will only add value to the product for them when it is cold. Overall, brand switchers
will benefit the most from this technology as they can buy Coca Cola when it is cheaper and switch
to an alternative when it is more expensive. 4. Are there any price related issues that can
adversely affect the firm? Price Wars Coca Cola needs to consider the risk of price wars if this
technology is introduced because the ability to discount prices so easily could cause
competitors to continually lower prices, specifically at holidays. Price Discrimination: This
means, selling the same good to different groups of buyers at different prices . Price
discrimination is used most through the internet because it so much easier to change prices and
know information about the consumers buying behaviors so they can raise or lower the price
accordingly meaning that they are not sacrificing profits but increasing economic efficiency.
Therefore with Coke, those consumers that drink on hot days will be worse of since they have
to pay a higher price, while those that drink on cold days will be better of. Consequently, sales in
hotter countries could decrease as a result of charging high prices. It will only be a success if the
difference between prices are not explicitly known. Otherwise Price discrimination could harm
Coca Cola s brand image of being consumer friendly. 5. What did Coke do right? What did Coke do
wrong? How would

A.D. when it buried the ancient Roman city of Pompeii . A witness write that the dust poured
across the land like a flood . Two thousand people died and the city of Pompeiiwas left abandoned
for almost as many years for each person that died. When a group of archaeologists rediscovered
the site in year 1748 they were shocked to see that the city was almost completely intact under the

As a matter of fact scholars say the mountain is hundreds of thousands of years old and had been
erupting for generations before the dreaded 79 A.D eruption. For example the 1780 B.C eruption
was an unusually violent one and is known today as the Avellino eruption. This eruption sent
superheated lava, ash and rocks about 22 miles into the sky. That ancient catastrophe destroyed
almost every village farm and house within the 15 mile radius of the mountain. Mt. Vesuvius Is
part of the Campanian volcanic arc. It s a line of volcanoes that have formed over a subduction

Mount vesuvius besides being a hundred of thousands of ear old volcano is also a somma

one of many volcanoes that formed from the Campanian volcanic arc. Its last eruption was in the

  • 2. How The Mac Is A Medium Access Control Protocol Introduction : This paper discusses about the S MAC , which is a Medium Access Control Protocol used in wireless sensor networks . The protocol proposed in the paper is mainly inspired by PAMAS . The important goals of this protocol is to conserve energy and configure by itself or known as scalability . It is entirely different from traditional mac protocols like ieee 802.11. The protocol uses three primary techniques to support energy conserving and self configuration . they periodically sleep to minimize energy consumption , then formation of virtual clusters by neighbor nodes for auto synchronization on sleep times and radios are also set to sleep during transmissions of other node . Then S mac uses message passing and in channel... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 2)periodic listen and sleep : in this the listen time is reduced by letting go the node into periodic sleep . a)basis scheme : in this node goes to sleep for a specified time and then wakes up to listen if any node wants to communicate with it . A timer is set during sleep and the radio of the node is also turned off . A periodic synchronization is between neighbor nodes for their correct clock timings . Two techniques are used to synchronization one is timestamps exchanged are relative other than being absolute. Another technique is listen is period is longer than clock error or drift . To reduce control overhead neighbor nodes should be preferred to synchronize together . to be noted that all neighboring nodes cant synchronize together . then all nodes broadcast their schedule to all its immediate neighbors this for ensuring that all neighbor can talk with different schedule times . If multiple nodes want to talk to a node , this can be done by contention mechanism using request to send and clear to send packets . here first come first serve basis , node which send first will grab the medium . here the formation of nodes are done in flat topology . b)choosing and maintaining schedules : each node maintains its own schedule table where its neighbor nodes schedule are stored. First node listens for a particular time , if it is not hearing from another node it randomnly goes to sleep with broadcasting a SYNC message . ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. This Face Changes The Human Story Analysis Since Naledi has human and australopithecines features I think she should be placed 2 3 million years ago. I believe Naledi was an early Homo that was in the early stages of the body evolving. In the article This Face Changes the Human Story. But How? it states that Parts of the skeletons looked astonishingly modern. But others were just as astonishingly primitive in some cases, even more apelike than the australopithecines. That means that in that certain group you had a mix of modern humanlooking and ape like creatures. They were most likely fond of each other like a family which is why they put them in what seems a burial site. If it is a burial site, then it must have been in that area for quite some time. • 5. Frederick Douglass, The Most Famous African American... Frederick Douglass is the most famous African American abolitionists and the greatest American orators. Throughout American history, African Americans were victims of American governmental policies of harsh slavery. However, Frederick Douglass transforms the way people should understand slavery. He takes charge of upholding slaveryto himself and defends the freedom for those in slavery. While other African Americans did not have a voice, he became the voice for African American slavery. In this way, Frederick Douglass is a mental and physical hero because of his courage and achieving freedom from slavery through his strength of character and education. Frederick Douglass portrays himself as a physical and mental hero through courage in his autobiography, beginning from slavery at birth to freedom of escape. He refuses to accept anything less than his own physical, spiritual, and intellectual freedom. Moreover, he never hesitates to focus on his determination. According to the Litigation, one of the first acts of courage in Douglass life is teaching other slaves to read the New Testament with over forty people attending his classes. His master retaliates against his courage by sending him to another owner (Mr. Covey) who has a reputation for breaking courageous slaves. At that moment during his time with Mr. Covey, Douglass fights back because of this spirit that comes to him. That spirit is his courage. He gains courage to impose the effects of slavery and ... • 6. Consequences Of Colonization Of Africa Through the19th century to the start of the 20th century, Africa was at the mercy of Europe imperialism. Politics and economics led powerful European nations to colonize the continent of Africa. What was later coined as The Scramble for Africa , led powerful nations to aggressively take over the continent and exploit its materials, people, and land. The European powers that took control of most of Africaincluded Britain, France, Germany, Belgium, Italy, Portugal, and Spain. The continent was divided and given to these European countries in 1884 through the Berlin Conference. The brutal rule by imperial command created a continent that still to this day deals with the lasting presence of the European takeover. Although not all effects of imperialism were bad or malicious, many were leaving an image of the era as psychologically damaging to Africans as well as to the land in general. Whether the effects of colonization left the continent in better or worse shape than it would have been without European imperialism, the colonization of Africa is a part of history that will remain infamous so long as it is remembered It is common for people to assume that all of African colonialismwas the same. While most of the process of colonizing the continent did involve a lot of tragedy and hardship, the type of government set up was inherently different depending on the country that inhabited an area. For example South Africa was settled in the late 18th century originally by Dutch ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It faced the problems similar to those of Italy. There were 9 cabinets in 1920 28. Moreover, Germany was unified by Bismarck. It inherited from Prussia the tradition of authoritarianism and contempt for democracy. German people were dissatisfied with the inefficient administration of the Weimar government. In addition, the Weimar Constitution vested too much power in the hands of the President, which increased the chance for Hitler to become a dictator. Postwar Economic Difficulties Production came to a halt in Italy after the war. Over one million people became unemployed. Besides, 2.5 million soldiers had returned and waited for jobs. Italy also owed a huge amount of war debts. There was hyper inflation. Enterprises and factories closed down. The economy was going to collapse. People longed for a saviour. Other than war debts, Germany was also burdened with the huge indemnity imposed by the Treaty of Versailles. No money was available for reconstruction. The mark dropped in value horribly when the French troops occupied the Ruhr district in 1923. Although Stresemann could overcome the economic hardship for the time being with American aid, the Great Depression of 1929 put Germany in an economic crisis again. By 1932 6 million people were unemployed. People had no hope for the Weimar Republic. Threat of Communism Some Italians were

  • 10. Good People, by David Foster Wallace Essay David Foster Wallace s Good People, is a very touching, powerful story about a young, unwed, Christian couple facing an extremely difficult decision and the moral and religious implications that may result. As the story begins, we are allowed into the head of Lane Dean, a college student, as he sits on a park bench with his girlfriend, Sheri. Lane and Sheri find themselves faced with an unplanned pregnancy, which causes them to battle with several moral and religious dilemmas. Both of them are devout Christians who have built their moral beliefs upon God and their religious upbringing. Although torn Sheri schedules an abortion, which weighs on Lane deeply. When Wallace writes ...the air suffused with honeysuckle and lilacs both, which was almost too much (1) readers can literally almost catch a whiff of the honeysuckle and lilacs in the air. Wallace s precise and purposeful style of language allows us to get a true feeling for Lane, our protagonist, and the terror, desperation and nervousness he feels in making a horribly difficult decision. He hated himself for sitting so frozen. He could almost visualize himself tiptoeing past something explosive. A big stupid looking tiptoe, like in a cartoon. The whole last black week had been this way and it was wrong (1) portrays the sheer terror and desperation that Lane is feeling. Wallace tells this story from a limited omniscience point of view, only allowing us into Lane s head. This point of view complements Lane s character as well as the tone of this story as it helps to set the frightened and worried mood of the story as it permits us, as readers, to experience the inner conflict and desperation that Lane is feeling. The setting, in my opinion, has hints of foreshadowing that work nicely with Lane s inner conflict. When Wallace writes [t]hey were up on a picnic table at that park by the lake, by the edge of the lake... (1) the word edge prompts a feeling that the story is on the verge of change. When Wallace writes of springtime and storms , it provokes a feeling of newness and change. In my opinion, all of the literary elements in Good ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Ndani Research Paper As part of Dance Houston 2013 , the Ndani was performed on April sixth of the year two thousands and thirteen at the Wortham center. The dance executed by a group of eight young dancers, among which Otis Berry, was choreographed by ShatГ© Edwards. Miss Edwards has an engaged, skillful, and powerful style. Her background includes jazz, tap, stepping, modern and more. She is a Houston, Texas native, who attended college in Atlanta, Georgia, and has performed a lot in the U.S and China and has participated in numerous productions. The Ndani is performed by a group of eight dancers composed of seven females and one male. The dancers are all wearing shirts with sleeves rolled up to the elbows and pants also with the bottom rolled up to about the middle of the tibia; females are wearing a tie while the male has a waistcoat on. The dance is executed without any soundtrack; the rhythm is given by the taps of the dancers on the floor of the stage and on their own body; some words are often sporadically pronounced with or without forming a complete sentence. The BSC strikes a balance between financial and nonfinancial measures (Horngren, Sundem, Stratton, 2008, p. 401) and is used by about 50% of the top 1,000 United States firms. To develop this system, Guillermo needs to decide what the responsibility centers are and how performance is measured and acknowledged. He will also need to define the key performance indicators; financials, customers, internal processes, and employee growth and learning. The primary goal of a control system such as BSC is to develop the financial and nonfinancial measurements critical to the firm s growth and profitability. In business, it is all a circle, where employee and customer satisfaction proves to play large roles in the ultimate success, or lack there of, of a firm. In several of his children s books, Geisel adds more and more tension, building up to the climax only to end in an anticlimactic way. For example, in The Cat in the Hat, suspense increases as the mess the Cat makes becomes unmanageable. The illustrations add to this tension as the children s mother is set to arrive. Effects of different nutrient conditions on plant growth of wheat seeds ________________________________________ The objective of this investigation was to determine the effects of limiting nutrients on plant growth in different treatment. Nutrient availability is an important factor in plant growth as it enhances the processes taking place in the plants such as primary and secondary metabolic processes. In this investigation, wheat plants were observed in different chemical treatments with limitations to nutrients using statistical analysis. Students were required to scientifically determine whether or not different nutrient conditions affected the overall plant growth over duration of time. The shoot length and biomass of 20 random leaves grown in different chemical media s were measured and this data was used to calculate statistical calculation such as the mean, standard deviation and t value which was compared to the critical t value to determine whether or not the null hypothesis was rejected. It was statistically calculated that the treatments that were nitrogen deficient and phosphorus deficient had a p value greater than 0.05 and treatments that were water and potassium deficient had a p value less than 0.05 in both the plants shoot length and biomass. This lead to the conclusion that nitrogen deficient and phosphorus deficient treatments did have an effect on the plant growth of wheat plants. • 31. Mri Of The Knee Ligament Tear MRI of the knee Anterior Cruciate Ligament Tear Introduction The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is an important structure in maintaining the normal biomechanics of the knee and is the most commonly injured knee ligament. ACL tears may be partial or complete. A partial tear can involve both or only a single bundle to varying degree, can range from a minor tear involving just a few fibers to a high grade near complete tear involving almost all of the ACL fibers. Anatomy and physiology The ACL originates from the medial and anterior aspect of the tibial plateau and runs superiorly, laterally, and posteriorly toward its insertion on the lateral femoral condyle. Together with the posterior cruciate ligament (PCL), the ACL guides the instantaneous center of rotation of the knee, therefore controlling joint kinematics. To a lesser degree, the ACL checks extension and hyperextension. The ACL is not as strong as the posterior cruciate ligament (PCL), and it is less strong at its femoral origin than at its tibial insertion. I.Introduction: The Historical Roots of Hospice In the 8th century, B.C. the Homeric times, all Greeks without exception were regarded as being under the protection of Zeus Xenios, the god of strangers and supplicants. A wanderer would be treated as a guest and offered food, shelter, clothing, and gifts. Violation of the duties of hospitality were likely to provoke the wrath from the gods. The American Medical Association and the Institute of Medicine foundation has devoted millions of dollars to public education on this issue through the Last Acts initiative. (Forman and Kitzes, et al 2003). This is one reason so many patients enter hospice only in the last days of life. A more reasonable approach would be to have a patient begin Palliative/Hospice care while receiving curative care. The Center for Medicare Medicaid Services (CMS) is about to embark on a project to evaluate whether providing hospice services earlier in an illness along with curative care, improves quality of life for patients while reducing Medicare spending. If Palliative/Hospice care were to be provided soon after a terminal diagnosis, there would be more hospice care would be more timely. About a third of hospice patients die within seven days of admission to a Palliative/Hospice program. This short length of stay compromises the quality of care that hospice offers. V. ... • 35. Essay on Why I Support Banning Smoking in Public Places Some businesses prefer that no one smoke cigarettes in any of their offices. Most governments have banned smoking in all public places. Based on personal experience, personality style and emotional concern, we find that some hold the notion that smoking in public places should be banned. Meanwhile, others want to be as free as possible and do as they please, as long as their actions do not violate the rights of others. From my point of view, it is more sensible to ban smoking in public places rather than allow second hand smoke to continue to harm people nearby, who breathe in the smoke. The main reason for my partiality to banning smoking in public places is that second hand smoke can cause disease as well as death in adults and children... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Banning smoking in public places is debatably unfair to smokers. This takes away from their freedom, however, not banning it is unfair to those that do not smoke, and puts their health in danger. Smoking makes it unsafe for them to go to public places. For example, in restaurants and other public areas the smoke does not remain solely in the smoking section. Having a smoking section and a nonsmoking section in a building is better than mixing everyone together. However, if we drop dye into water, doesn t it spread? Smoke has the same effect and anyone who has ever paid attention to it will notice that fact. Smoke spreads from the smoking section all through the building in the air, therefore, spreading the dangers with it. For this reason, smoking should not be allowed in public places. The argument I support in the first paragraph is also in a position of benefit because the Surgeon General s Report concluded, scientific evidence indicates that there is no risk free level of exposure to secondhand smoke. Short exposures to secondhand smoke can cause blood platelets to become stickier, damage the lining of blood vessels, decrease coronary flow velocity reserves, and reduce heart rate variability, potentially increasing the risk of heart attack (http://www.lungusa.org/site/pp.asp?c=dvLUK9O0E b=35422#two). Parker lists sources: Newsweek, the Clintons, and books about early development, as causes for parents to go overboard on developing their young children. The point that Parker is trying to get across is that these articles are not reasons for society to change their parental habits. The author is saying that the news articles can not prove one way or the other that teaching your child early in life gives them the advantage. Just because an article says that in some cases child development is effective, it doesn t mean that it is true or appropriate to change the way you are teaching your two year old. Defining Exit Polls And Opinion Polls Defining Exit polls and Opinion Polls: Exit poll: A poll taken of a sample of voters as they leave a polling place, used especially to predict the outcome of an election or determine the opinions and characteristics of the candidates supporters . How Exit poll works: Conducting national exit polls is an enormous undertaking, requiring as long as two years to implement. The goal of the process is to collect information on a subset of voters that can be projected to the entire active electorate with a high degree of confidence. Numerous obstacles, though, stand in the way, threatening to undermine the effort and bias the results. Exit polls, like most surveys, unfold in four distinct but often overlapping stages / Research ers usually begin by developing procedures for drawing a probabilistic sample of voters whose responses can be inferred to the active electorate with a high degree of confidence. They develop a questionnaire, capable of both describing the types of voters participating in an election as well as offering insights into the reasoning behind their choices. Interviewers are trained and eventually employed to disseminate the questionnaires to and collect them from sampled voters on Election Day. The process concludes with the integration of voters responses into a data set for analysis. The specific procedures used for each stage vary by polling organization; therefore, I focus my discussion on those procedures developed by Warren Mitofsky, Murray Edelman, ... The ratification of the Eighteenth Amendment banned the manufacture, sale, and transportation of alcohol in the United States, which caused majors shifts in society and the nation as a whole. As stated in Section 1 of Amendment XXI, The eighteenth article of amendment to the Constitution of the United States is hereby repealed (U.S. Constitution). In 1928, President Herbert Hoover described prohibition as, A great social and economic experiment, noble in motive and far reaching in purpose (Hoover). One major point to consider in this market is the tax that is levied on alcoholic drinks which is 1 pound per bottle regardless of the retail price. This would also mean that the export of Reservas would be more beneficial as compared to Varietals (this is in line with the company s strategic decisions as well). Again in this case, MontGras has 2 options to decide in terms of partners. The first one is the distributor that the company has been having for a while now (since 1996). The distributor had helped MontGras gain a good position in restaurants and other retail market too (on premise and off premise). The second option is the leading supermarket chain Tesbury, which with the help of few promotions made the total sales skyrocket in just a few days. The most likely option to choose would be the currently existing distributor since completely siding with Tesbury would majorly go against the positioning strategy planned out by MontGras. Harper Lee intends for the novel to display the harsh reality to the real world, and exhibit how life and society were really like during this period in history. Humanity s views and morals have shown little sign of ever being able to accept change or difference as seen in particular issues such as racism, discrimination, sexism, prejudice etc. Whilst reading the novel, readers can identify these well known problems and maybe even relate to some of the ideas that Lee is portraying. Lee uses symbols to effectively communicate and express her thoughts and opinions on the various themes of the book. Moreover, these symbols are able to tap into the subconscious mind to implement ideas that can be analyzed in order to understand their relevance to not only the plot line and major theme topics of the novel: appearance versus reality, conscience and integrity, and loss of innocence, but also to modern society. At first glance, Maycomb appears to be a quaint, peaceful town. Lee later proves this to be a common misconception made by outsiders. Some ways that we use this information is being a doctor, baseball player and even a high school student. In baseball the manager uses statistics to figure out what there hitters should bat and how it will affect the team as a whole. Ron Clark is the manager for the Cubs, they were down by one and that when the statistics came into play. The Cubs had one man on base and the next two hitters had fantastic hitting ratios therefore, Ron looked at all the possibilities and decided to not bunt any balls. Ron s decision paid off and they won that game ( section 1, Chances of a lifetime). This was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 55. Understanding Students Responses From The Australian... 1.0 Introduction Educators are required to interpret students responses to mathematical questions. The purpose of this report was to provide an opportunity to examine the step by step approach to answering problems, interrogate the results and recognise mathematical concepts. There are six questions in total from the Australian Curriculum Assessment Reporting Authority [ACARA], (2012) NAPLAN year nine numeracy non calculator test. The six questions mentioned in the report are question 12, 14, 16, 18, 22 and 23. Each issue is set out in the report in numerical order with a screen shot of the methods used to solve the question followed by a reflection. The reflection describes my feelings, confidence and approach towards each question along with the type of mathematics used, the year level suitable for each question according to the ACARA (2015) and alternative ideas for solving the six questions. 2.1 Question 12 Reflection Initial thoughts were I could easily solve this because I use metric units on a regular basis for working out distances for driving and dimensions of furniture. I knew millimetres were the smallest followed by centimetres, metres and kilometres the largest (Lakin, 2011). That did not mean that kilometre was the answer. I understood that converting the units would help solve the question but could not remember how to do conversions. Once I refreshed my knowledge as discussed before step 1 of figure 1, I ... • 56. Soft Drink and Coca Cola Coca Cola s New Vending Machine (A) Case Questions 1. Is selling Coke through interactive vending machines a good or bad idea? Explain your answer. It is a good idea to sell Coke through interactive vending machines. Over the last three years, the soft drinking giants have watched their earnings erode as they waged a price war in supermarkets. Vending machines have remained largely untouched by the discounting. Sales of soft drinks from vending machines have risen steadily over the last few years, though most sales still take place in supermarkets. Last year, about 11.9 percent of soft drink sales worldwide were from vending machines. Vending machines require low cost for companies. Company can just place a vending machine at ... Overall, brand switchers will benefit the most from this technology as they can buy Coca Cola when it is cheaper and switch to an alternative when it is more expensive. 4. Are there any price related issues that can adversely affect the firm? Price Wars Coca Cola needs to consider the risk of price wars if this technology is introduced because the ability to discount prices so easily could cause competitors to continually lower prices, specifically at holidays. Price Discrimination: This means, selling the same good to different groups of buyers at different prices . Price discrimination is used most through the internet because it so much easier to change prices and know information about the consumers buying behaviors so they can raise or lower the price accordingly meaning that they are not sacrificing profits but increasing economic efficiency. Therefore with Coke, those consumers that drink on hot days will be worse of since they have to pay a higher price, while those that drink on cold days will be better of. Consequently, sales in hotter countries could decrease as a result of charging high prices. It will only be a success if the difference between prices are not explicitly known. Otherwise Price discrimination could harm Coca Cola s brand image of being consumer friendly. 5. What did Coke do right? What did Coke do wrong? How would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
