Thesis On Psoriasis
Abstract:
Psoriasis is a disease of chronic systemic inflammation that involves not only the skin, but also
internal organs. The frequency of Non alcoholic fatty liver disease was found to be significantly
greater in psoriasis patients with increased risk of atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease. A large
number of immunes is found in Psoriatic skin and this immune produce chemokine s, cytokine and
inflammatory molecules. The exact role of genetics in psoriasis is still unclear and an overlap between
some psoriasis loci and those identified in other autoimmune or inflammatory diseases has been
reported.
Introduction
Psoriasis affects 2 3% of the European population. It is common found less in an individual of Asian
descent (0.1% ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the Nurses Health Study II, increased body mass index (BMI) correlated with an increased incident
rate of psoriasis, and hip circumference and waist to hip ratio were all associated with a higher risk of
incident psoriasis. 37 The psoriasis that are associated with metabolic syndrome and increase risk of
cardiovascular disease are non alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and chronic plague. . NAFLD is
the hepatic manifestation of metabolic syndrome, with its key component being visceral obesity. 38
The prevalence of NAFLD is 10 24% of the general population worldwide, increasing to 57.5 74% in
obese individuals. The mortality was increased in patients with NAFLD compared with the general
population and in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES III) study, the
NAFLD cohort had both increased overall mortality and liver related mortality compared with
individuals without liver disease. 39 While in most patients, NAFLD does not progress beyond simple
steatosis, it may progress to Non Alcoholic Steato Hepatitis (NASH). The prevalence of NASH also
correlates with obesity, with waist to hip ratio and abdominal obesity reported to be predictors of
NASH. Diagnosing patients with NAFLD and identifying those with NASH is challenging, as they are
generally asymptomatic. Clinical presentation and current radiological modalities may not be reliably

The Real Unemployment Rate
The Real Unemployment Rate
Jessi Stevenson
July 14th, 2015
Macroeconomics
Embry Riddle Aeronautical University
The unemployment rate in the United States of America is a topic that is often scrutinized and
discussed among economists, politicians and fellow citizens. Frequently newscasters are advertising
monthly unemployment rate, and I ask myself this question: Is the rate being published by the Bureau
of Labor Statistics (BLS) actually the true figure, or is the real number being misrepresented? In effort
to answer this question, one has to understand the breakdown of the U.S. population as it relates to the
actual labor force. One also has to comprehend who the government considers to be unemployed. I
will be analyzing the current statistical numbers provided by the BLS, as well providing a detailed
analysis of the government s perspective as to what is deemed to be employed and unemployed. As
mentioned in our text, Economics (Arnold, 2011), the total U.S. population is broken up into two
separate groups. They are as follows: 16 years and under, the armed forces, and the institutionalized
(these 3 sections make up the first group). The second group consists of all others in the total
population labeled the civilian non institutional population. The civilian non institutional population is
made up of two groups those in the labor force, and those not in the labor force. Those who are
considered to be in the labor force are either employed or

The Importance Of Remembrance Of The Soldiers And Their...
Throughout the history of the Civil War, Gettysburg was one of the most intriguing battles. It not only
was the battle that had largest number of casualties but it was also located in a very isolated piece of
land in upstate Pennsylvania. Gettysburg National Military Park has gone through many phases
throughout its history; one thing that has not changed and that is the importance of remembrance of
the soldiers and their sacrifices. The changes that occurred through the decades at Gettysburg National
Battlefield mirror the social climate in the United States.
In the year of 1895, Gettysburg went from being a privately owned property to becoming a Military
Park. Many things would change from the Military Park though once the 1930 s ... Show more content

With its location Gettysburg remained untouched until tourists and looters invaded the sacred hollow
ground to find souvenirs from the corpses before the battlefield was officially preserved. For example,
the commission reported a problem with thoughtless or mischievous visitors, and particularly the
mutilation of monuments by sacrilegious relic hunters that sometimes infest the ground with the sense
of reverence wholly undeveloped. Once the battlefield was officially taken over by the Park Service,
the main goal would be to protect and preserve the sacred ground. (Continue on somehow)
The changes at Gettysburg National Battlefield in the 1960 s echoed the nation s patriotism and desire
for unity in light of the Cold War and the Civil Rights Movement. With the change in society,
Gettysburg faced an increase in population at the park each year it increased by the thousands. With
the result of large crowds, the park made some changes. The biggest change at Gettysburg was the use
of Mission 66. Mission 66 was a program implemented that, reaffirmed the National Park Service s
tradition of promoting recreational tourism, some changes that were made to the park included,
improvements in roads, trails, camping facilities, amphitheaters, and visitor amenities encouraged a

Off Road Driving Maintenance
Off Road Driving Maintenance
Off road driving should be treated differently from city driving. Maneuvering in uneven and dirt roads
can be quite tough on your vehicle. Most drivers often push their cars to the limit when they are
driving off road. It helps them gauge how far they can stretch their vehicle.
In this case, you should always perform regular maintenance check ups on your car. After all, it is
more prone to wear and tear and constant exposure to heat, dirt, and other road contaminants can
cause your car parts to deteriorate faster.
Doing regular inspections on your car will allow you to address any new issues as soon as possible.
This makes it safer for you to travel on or off road.
Here are some tasks you need to include in

The Outsiders Movie Analysis
A book composed into a movie is a delicate task. There are many components and scenes that are
considered before being embedded in a film. In The Outsiders, there was a devious amount of detail
neglected in the film. On the other hand, the book portrays the feelings and character relationships.
Scenes that had specific meaning were shattered, several portions of the film were exaggerated, and
the central message of the entire movie was mislaid. These fundamentals simply obscured the main
message and made the movie disorientated. Hair slicked back, leather jackets, and cigars hanging from
their lips. Greasers were extravagant boys who were known as troublemakers in gangs. The main
character Ponyboy is a greaser. Ponyboy s gang are always ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The ignorance within the movie impediments the message for the audience. Everyone in a movie
theater is excited and expecting the big commission. Then the rumble begins. The reader starts to
realize that nothing that is occurring in the film was in the book. This is a huge disappointment on
behalf of the reader opinion. During the rumble the movie director added rain and a fire pit to create
suspense. This made it distracting and burdensome to find the purpose of the rumble. The message
behind the rumble was of the two different groups fighting for their rights. It was a cascade of
emotions and urge to destroy the wall separating equality. Apart from the over exaggeration, the
director made Ponyboy seem like a weakling. When the main protagonist looks vulnerable that just
makes the movie seem preposterous. No main character should be made useless and vulnerable.
Especially if in the book the character was stunning during the battle. The lack of detail and attention
to the scene defeats the purpose of the book. If the film can not display the book properly then it
indeed is a misinterpretation.
Nonetheless, the director did not comprehend that an inaccuracy in the film can throw off the
audience. In the film several of the major characters were placed as minors. This mislead a the novel
reader since they know the director should had placed more attention to those characters. Sodapop and
Darry were

Peter Paul Rubens Essay
In 1600, Peter Paul Rubens left his home in Antwerp, and he set off to Italy. Soon after arriving in
Italy, Ruben entered the service of the Duke of Mantua, Vincenzo Gonzaga.
The duke s palace had a great art collection, and Ruben found time to visit various other cities in Italy
since he wasn t expected to be at the household all of the time.
Rubens completed his education in Rome.
During Rubens first visit to Rome, he painted 3 altarpieces for the Church of Sta Croce.
In 1603, Peter s duke sent Peter on a diplomatic mission to Spain where he made an equestrian portrait
of the Duke of Lerma.
In 1605, Rubens decided to stay in Rome for 3 years, and during this period of, he commissioned and

Madonna and Child. The poor lighting in the church did not make a good impression of this altarpiece.
Then, Rubens decided to replace this altarpiece with three images painted on slate.
His mother s sickness and death would change Rubens career forever. When Rubens heard that his
mother was sick, he left Italy to return to Antwerp, but he would never come back.
In Antwerp, the sovereigns, or rulers, of Spanish Netherlands appointed Ruben as court painter.
Archduke Albert and his consort, Isabella.
Rubens created the Four Philosophers , and the humanistic atmosphere pf Antwerp helped to inspire
and influence the work of art. This painting is a commemorative one with Justus Lipsius with 2 pupils

The Raising of the Cross meant for the church of St. Walburga, and this piece of art made him the

Soon after, Rubens created hunting pieces with men fighting beasts as well as more religious yet
worldly pieces of art such as Descent From the Cross and Great Last

The Narrow Road To The Deep North And The Railway Man...
From the contexts of the Narrow Road to the Deep North and The Railway Man as both were set in
the same era, many of the same issues arise around the subject of post traumatic stress disorder and
grief. Through the war, and the hardships soldiers faced, it was hard to return home, with the unknown
expectation of isolation and seclusion, particularly in thoughts and feelings. As friends and families
who stayed at home and did not experience the war, empathy was often difficult, and opinions and
experiences from the war were not often talked about. Through this, guilt and post war emotions are

Dorrigo Evans, in The Narrow Road to the Deep North, has a similar experience to Eric. Through the
war, and traumatic experiences, Dorrigo is largely incapable to conjure feelings of love. This leads
him to not feel happy or comfortable in his long standing relationship with his fiancé Ella. Although
Ella is all Dorrigo every wanted in a woman, correct and loving, his broken past brings him to
infidelity. He has multiple flings with women, hoping to seek the love he has lost from during the war.
He eventually finds a kind of love in Amy Mulvaney, his uncles younger wife. Dorrigo wasn t looking
for love, the love he acquired with Amy found him. Although he loved Amy, she was also a comping
mechanism for Dorrigo, to cope with the trauma of the war. When he was with her, all his worries
about the war went away, and he only though about her, nothing but her.
And without her (Amy), his life felt to him no longer any life at all. (Flanagan, Richard)
His life in the war, made him feel like life was no longer worth living, but Amy made his life have
purpose, and therefore Flanagan showing the audience the power of love in the darkest times. Natasha

examples to his psychological being, and how these can draw the reader closer to him as a character.
However, alongside these flaws there are fine psychological depictions of characters on both sides of
the ethical divide; there is

Sexism In Colleges
As a black person, an agender person, and an asexual person, one can assume that with the research
that I have done into the diversity and acceptance of minorities at college campuses would be met with
smiling brown faces lying down in Ivy League quads and LGBTQA+ students organizing themselves
under a rainbow flag as school administration looked on. This is exactly what I have found in college
viewbooks and within the little pamphlets that urge students to pay a $75 application fee in order to
seize their future at a progressive campus, because success is a choice . But with deeper research into
college life, I was met with different reports of racism, sexism, homophobia, and transphobia in many

For example, at Augusta University, women only compose 56 out of 148 administrative posts, and
only 647 of the 1,481 teaching posts were filled by women or people of an nonbinary gender
(Workplace Profile). The fact that women are so poorly represented in cases like this can have a great
effect on the gender diversity of the university and the feelings of systematic sexism that students feel
on campus. If female students don t see women in teaching positions, it can make it seem as if they
aren t truly a part of campus, and that they are in a male dominated area of society. This can result in a
sense of disentitlement in women and a sense of entitlement in men. As a student, I can tell you that
the mansplaining in Zeilinger s piece on sexism on campus, is a real thing. Like Zeilinger says, men
think it s their place to interrupt women and explain the coursework as if they were a teacher instead
of a student. This is a prime example of how the sexism in faculty appointment leaks over into student
life, because it makes nonbinary students and women feel as if they are simply in a male space instead
of in a space created and maintained for all students regardless of gender, making them less involved
in class discussions and inadvertently allowing men to take away their

Maintaining Information Stored On A User Freedom Without...
Operating systems have to provide a level of security to allow a user freedom without someone seeing
them making a purchase online. An attacker would find that purchase made very valuable, they can
acquire that information. From threats and attacks which could allow sensitive information to be
looked at or taken. The idea of an OS having a built in security levels is now a very crucial task. This
helps to secure information to not be looked at. Securing information stored and allowing only certain
users to look at it are the main components to protect. Now, computers and technology are a part of
our everyday life that we do not see the protection happening in the background. To understand this
more, information that is stored in a database, on a computer, through emails and websites are all
examples of secure information. An OS needs to have different levels of security built in that helps
protect this sensitive information. For some users and companies, they have very personal information
stored on their computer. Even for a regular user, an email should not be read when it is sent to
someone. A computer stores what is sent, if an attacker was able to get past the password they would
get that information. Making purchases online with a credit card should not be found or easily
accessible. On a company s side, they could hold up to millions of user s personal information such as

Essay about Physics Cantilever Lab
Independent Assessment Physics Lab (SL): Cantilever Flexion
Cherno Okafor
Mr. Ebrahimi

October 21st, 2012
Introduction
Purpose: The purpose of this Physics Lab is to investigate what factors determine the amount of
flexion of the cantilever. Hence, the objective is to establish a relationship between the length of a
cantilever, which may give some insight into the physics of cantilevers.
Hypothesis: If one increases the length of a cantilever, one would expect there to be an increase in
deflection/flexion of the cantilever. Similarly, if one increases the mass of the load, one would expect
there to be an increase in the deflexion/flexion of the cantilever. In addition, I predict that
proportionality will also occur ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
* Dependent Variable: The deflection/flexion of the cantilever in metres. This will be measured
indirectly by measuring the initial height of the bottom of the cantilever with no mass added (which is
equal to the height of the table) and the new height of the bottom of the cantilever after each trial,
which will be measured with mass added. Hence, the difference between these heights is equal to the
deflection/flexion of the cantilever. The material and other physical properties of the cantilever will be
controlled by using the same yardstick as a cantilever for each trial.
Data Collection and Processing
My experiment is divided into two parts; experiment A (involving the relationship between flexion
and the mass of the load) and experiment B (involving the relationship between the flexion and the
length of the cantilever).
Below are two tables in which I have recorded the data which I obtained during the experiment. The
first table reflects the Relationship between the deflection/flexion of the cantilever and the mass of the
load and the second table reflects the relationship between the flexion of the cantilever and the length
of the cantilever.

An Analysis of Toy Story Essay
Toy Story Analysis
Toy Story is the groundbreaking 1995 motion picture developed by Disney and Pixar and directed by
John Lasseter. The film was so revolutionary not only because it was the first feature length animation
to be created completely by CGI (Computer Generated Imagery) but also, also the film was more
rounded in all respects. The characters not only looked more sophisticated and three dimensional but
their personalities were also more human and fewer cartoons like. The film uses a constructed text in
order to put across a theme of two very different characters learning to work together beyond their
rivalries to rise above a common enemy and work towards a common goal. The film uses characters

Woody quickly becomes jealous and insecure with the arrival of Buzz and this turns him into a bully.
Not the characteristics expected of a Disney hero. This is shown in the way Woody constantly
ridicules Buzz making fun of his name and teases him maliciously about the fact he thinks he actually
is a space ranger. This brings us on to Buzz. He is super confidant and suffers from delusions of
grandeur. However although he may be a little irritating he is still likeable, cheerful and helpful. He
has too much confidence in own abilities. This is why when he sees the advertisement for Buzz
Lightyear Action figures he completely loses his will to live and is unable to do anything. This is
another theme that self belief has a reflection in what you are able to do as they both find out at the
end in that when they have confidence in themselves they are able to rise above seemingly
insurmountable obstacles in rescuing Buzz and getting back to Andy. Another theme is that of
appearances being deceptive. Woody and Buzz immediately consider the toys in Sid s room as evil.
The audience also get this feeling. Not only do they look disturbing but also they are also associated
with Sid who is the main evil character. Despite their initial fears, Woody and Buzz are soon
convinced that Sid s warped creations are also prisoners and are in fact friends. It turns out that
without the intervention of Sid s toys Sid would

Photochemical Smog
Photochemical Smog
Gifted Chemistry IB
Alternative Assessment
1997 March 19
Historically, the term smog referred to a mixture of smoke and fog, hence the name smog. The
industrial revolution has been the central cause for the increase in pollutants in the atmosphere over
the last three centuries. Before 1950, the majority of this pollution was created from the burning of
coal for energy generation, space heating, cooking, and transportation. Under the right conditions, the
smoke and sulfur dioxide produced from the burning of coal can combine with fog to create industrial
smog. In high concentrations, industrial smog can be extremely toxic to humans and other living
organisms. London is world famous for its episodes of industrial smog. ... Show more content on

These conditions include :
• Precipitation can alleviate photochemical smog as the pollutants are washed out of the atmosphere
with the rainfall. • Winds can blow photochemical smog away replacing it with fresh air. However,
problems may arise in distant areas that receive the pollution. • Temperature inversions can enhance
the severity of a photochemical smog episode. Normally, during the day the air near the surface is
heated and as it warms it rises, carrying the pollutants with it to higher elevations. However, if a
temperature inversion develops pollutants can be trapped near the Earth s surface. Temperature
inversions cause the reduction of atmospheric mixing and therefore reduce the vertical dispersion of
pollutants. Inversions can last from a few days to several weeks.
4. Topography is another important factor influencing how severe a smog event can become.
Communities situated in valleys are more susceptible to photochemical smog because hills and
mountains surrounding them tend to reduce the air flow, allowing for pollutant concentrations to rise.
In addition, valleys are sensitive to photochemical smog because relatively strong temperature
inversions can frequently develop in these areas. Possible Solutions
A possible solution to the problem of photochemical smog is to enforce stricter emission laws all over
the globe. Many countries have varying laws on the legal limits of NOx, Carbon Dioxide, and Sulfur
Dioxide.

Activated Point-Of-Use Water Filters
Point of use water filters are utilized to remove contaminates immediately before direct consumption
for secondary exposure through cooking and cleaning. The media for these filters are chosen because
they have good permeability, durable, free of impurities and are insoluble in the water they are
filtering [18]. While filter media normally rely mechanical removal of particles, some medium works
to also remove contaminates by participating in redox reactions. Other forms of removal include
absorption and adsorption. Absorption is the where contaminates and liquid are soaked up like a

The Pros And Cons Of Carlsbad Desalination
Throughout the years, California has had many droughts, leaving the citizens without fresh water. The
current drought is just as devastating, and the state of California is in desperate need for drinking
water. The company Poseidon Water has come up with a desalination plant, and the project is called
the Carlsbad Desalination Project, which uses Pacific ocean water and filters the water to make what
was once ocean water fresh, drinking water. I have made a decision. I believe the state of California
should dismiss the Carlsbad Desalination Project because there are too many risks. To start off, the
plant is not very trustworthy. Secondly, the desalination plant can harm different forms of marine life.
Finally, the discharge water creates a hazard. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To start, in 2016, Carlsbad failed to deliver 20 percent of the promised water to San Diego, and didn t
produce any fresh water for 46 days. This translates to the citizens not getting fresh water when the
state needs it the most. Next, the plant has racked up more than a dozen water pollution violations!
This implies the plant is giving the people of California polluted water, while their website claims; We
make clean, safe water from a drought proof source the ocean. Lastly, so far in 2017, Carlsbad has
only delivered 70% of the promised water to San Diego. This shows Carlsbad is failing to fulfill the
promises that were made to San Diego, California. Secondly, the desalination plant harms marine life.
Even though the plant can stop bigger fish, it can not keep out tiny microorganisms and fish eggs.
These organisms keep other fish alive, and they make up the ocean. Next, every organism that enters
the plant will be killed. This implies that Carlsbad only focuses on creating fresh water and doesn t
consider wild life. Conner Everts, an environmentalist, states, Desalination should be the last choice to

Gender Aspects Of Gender And Gender Roles In Advertisements
Advertisements could be considered a fundamental part of American society s backbone. What
advertisers choose to present to the masses in hopes of attracting customers shows a lot about what a
society values. Over the years, ads have changed with people and culture. When looking further into
timepieces, one can see a large difference in how subjects were displayed and how they are now
presented. One of these subjects is gender. The textbook definition of gender has stayed the same but
the social contexts of it have changed over the years. Gender roles in society have changed drastically
over the years through advertisements. A 1950 s ad for Ivory Snow laundry detergent is a great
example of how American society perceived women. The advertisement is in the form of a black and
white tv commercial. This commercial highlights the ideal image of how a young woman should be in
this time. All of the ladies are prim and proper, dressed in nice attire, and have well done hair. The
video is being narrated by a man with a charming voice, who emphasizes the very dominant position
in society men prominently had. The speaker guides us through the commercial with flowery
language. He opens up the commercial with a story of how every young girl should feel like a
storybook princess, a life filled with delicate lingerie and soft blankets, that only Ivory Snow can
provide. The advertisers put metaphors and similes throughout the script to illuminate the feminine
appeal of the product. Using

Theory of Charles Chesnutt s Technique in The Wife of His Youth
From the time they arrived on slave ships, continuing for centuries, African American s were at the
mercy of white men in America. They had little to no control over their own lives, and they had no
voice to communicate their agony. Despite the fact that slavery ceased, the lives of black men,
women, and children improved very little. Writing was one of the very few ways that African
American s could release the frustrations of their maltreatment. When their writings were finally
published, their voices broke ground and boldly crossed racial lines. One of the first African American
s to accomplish this courageous feat was Charles Chesnutt. Although Chesnutt s ... Show more content

Although whites undeniably made life very difficult for African Americans, Chesnutt knew that
placing blame would be ineffective, and forceful or authoritative techniques would miss the mark. For
this reason, Chesnutt skillfully and subtly... wove a delicate pattern of racism and the inhumanity of
slavery through his stories, avoiding the commonly stereotypical battle between the heartless master
and the rebellious slave, [Chesnutt] captured the true injustice (Wintz, Black Culture 56). His
technique was deliberate yet gentle, compelling but subtle.
Chesnutt did not place blame on the whites outright, but strategically acknowledged the problem
within his own race. Wintz, also the author of Race and Realism in the fiction of Charles W. Chesnutt,
acknowledges that among black culture, there were emotional and highly explosive subjects of
racism...racial distinction and prejudice within the black community itself ( Race and Realism 126).
And Chesnutt skillfully utilizes the unfortunate conflict as a tool to deliver his message. Instead of
writing directly of the injustices blacks endured under the hands of white men, he writes from the
critical view of racism among blacks, pitting light skinned blacks against dark skinned to gain
sympathy, while avoiding a defensive response from the white audience.
In The Wife of His Youth, Chesnutt writes of a prestigious Blue

War, With Its Horror And Glory
War, with its horror and glory, is something that should not be underestimated in its ability to teach
truths about the human condition. War shows the bitter truth of the inevitability of death and exposes
one s family and nation to danger and destruction. However, the ability of war to unify a nation and
enlighten the minds of soldiers is significant and is what should be remembered most because in that,
one is able to transcend them self and evolve to be a better person. In Thucydides History of the
Peloponnesian War, the Athenians come to realize the role their unchecked selfishness and greed have
played in their ruination because they finally acknowledge the consequences of their actions. And as
death is a soldier s constant companion, the Athenians eventually accept their fate moira and learn to
put fear aside and endure. Interestingly, Homer conveys a similar view on fate and death in the Iliad,
and emphasizes the importance of fighting for those one loves (and the enduring kleos to be gained
from heroism in battle). The lessons of war, however, manifest themselves differently in the Iliad in
the way that war reveals the true meaning and purpose of life what is worth fighting for and what is
not (Mannering). It becomes apparent in History of the Peloponnesian War that self interest and greed
are the main instigators at work as Thucydides repeatedly communicates through the characters
speeches. In fact, Thucydides begins book one with pointing out the

Essay on Doctor Faustus by Christopher Marlowe
Doctor Faustus by Christopher Marlowe
Elizabeth I came to the throne of England during a time of intense religious turmoil and political
uncertainty. By the end of her reign, England stood as the first officially Protestant nation in Europe;
however, tensions between Protestants and the repressed Catholic minority continued to plague the
nation. Much of the literature produced during the time of her reign reflected sensitivities to religion
and resulting political intrigues. In his play Doctor Faustus, Christopher Marlowe places the title
character in a power struggle similar in form to those conflicts dominating Elizabethan life. Yet rather
than a battle among courtiers for royal favor, the battle in Doctor Faustus pits god ... Show more

In the same respect, Elizabeth s ascension to the throne created royal pressure on Catholics. Some
Catholics fled the country, while others plotted from within to overthrow her Protestant reign and
reinstate Catholicism. Religion had become an issue of royal decree and the source of political
intrigue, linked inexorably to the power struggles and political threats of Elizabeth s reign. Political
success rested not necessarily with religious devotion but with choosing the right side under the label
of religious conviction. Just as religion became a matter of superior political power, so does the battle
between God and the devil for Doctor Faustus soul become an issue of power.
Faustus ambitious desire for power drives him to turn away from God in his pursuit of necromantic
arts. In choosing between the righteous course that God presents and the damning course offered by
the devil, he most carefully considers which will offer him the most power. In the opening scene,
Faustus examines the merits of logic, medicine, law, and divinity, studies acceptable in service to God.
He dismisses each in turn, declaring that he has attained the end of logic and medicine (1.1.10). He
believes that a greater subject fitteth Faustus wit (1.1.11). For Faustus, law is nothing but mercenary
drudge and external trash, far beneath his ambitious purposes (1.1.34, 35). While each of these

This process will be long and arduous for you. In my opinion, this marks a transition in the
relationship with your sons. Prior to the process, you led and guided your child. After the process, you
will have to have faith that your child absorbed your teachings. The process is the shift from one to
another. It is the first time when parents must ceed control to their sons. You can make this process a

not live vicariously through your child. This is their choice. Your role is to assist them in making their

Dealing with the everyday hustle and bustle that life throws at them. African American women
continue to rise above and stand out while doing so. They have been labeled as different, from their
parenting style down to their style of dress. These women have also been ridiculed, labeled in a
negative manner, and even mistreated. For example, they have earned lower wages than African
American males and whites. On the other hand, they have also been viewed as strong willed
individuals. For examples, they have headed more than forty percent of their families while managing

These concerns affected the race as a whole and causing oppression, depression, and many additional
negative concerns. From this, also came strength and perseverance. The race as a whole has been able
to rise above and move forward in a positive direction.
STRATEGIES FOR WORKING WITH AFRICAN AMERICAN WOMEN
In counseling African American women, issues involving racial identity and conflict should be
explored. Counselors can help African American females counteract negative images associated with
being Black and being female; enhancing internal strength by developing pride and dignity in Black
womanhood can serve as a buffer to racism and sexism and can prevent the incorporation of negative
images into their own belief systems (Sue Sue, 2013, p. 374). Counselors should be aware of the
culture and familiar with the struggles and life events that have taken place for African American
females in order to relate, build rapport, and be helpful to them.
Family strategies for working with African American females include exploring the possibility of
extended or nontraditional family arrangements. Therefore, questions should be directed toward
clarifying who is living in the home and who helps out. Therapists/Counselors should work to
strengthen and increase functionality of the original family structure rather than attempt to change it.

Planning A Mexican Birthday Party
Planning a Mexican birthday party is no easy task. There are multiple factors that go into doing so.
Not only does it require a couple days of planning, but if done poorly, it will turn out the same. In a
Mexican party, one does not care about the content or what the family can provide. Rather, they care
about what they can contribute to make the party happen. The same can be said for a birthday party.
One does not spend weeks planning unless it is needed. Instead, you just decide on what you want,
and ask for the help of all your family members who will gladly help in any way they can. It is for this
reason that these birthday parties are so symbolic, because they bring family together to celebrate
someone s significant day of birth. The first step in planning the Perfect Mexican birthday party is to
invite your closest family members. This often means you re brothers and sisters alongside cousins.
People from outside the family are generally not invited and are shunned if they do attend. The reason
behind this is that Hispanic families tend to have family oriented parties because this brings a sense of
family bonding and togetherness. To begin the invitation process, you will often call one family
member, who will then spread the news around, effectively acting as an invitation for the whole
family. Following this, one must effectively create a music playlist. Creating a music playlist full of
Hispanic songs is essential for an enthusiastic party. You must choose a

The American Nightmare
The American Nightmare It was an extraordinary gift for hope, a romantic readiness such as I have
never found in any other person and which it is not likely I shall ever find again (Fitzgerald 6). In The
Great Gatsby, the narrator, Nick Carraway, was describing his neighbor s goal of marrying a woman
named Daisy. Gatsby, however, did not realize the futility of his dream which ended up costing him
his life. The Great Gatsby was written by Fitzgerald in 1925 and takes place in the summer of 1922.
The belief that anyone could get rich through hard work was still alive at the time and is evident in the
novel as both Gatsby and Carraway are newly rich characters. Fitzgerald himself grew up in a well off
family, similar to Carraway. Later on, Fitzgerald joined the Army during World War I, as did Gatsby
and Carraway. Gatsby was a successful officer in the Army when he met a woman named Daisy who
would then be the only concern in his life. Carraway was a somewhat successful bond salesman who
lived next door to Gatsby and liked to believe he was a fair and honest man. Daisy was a woman who,
in simple terms, was a gold digger. Daisy s only concern was to stay in the upper class, so she married
a rich man instead of Gatsby, which crushed his dream. If The Great Gatsby centered around Gatsby s
failed dream, the quick gain of money, and selfishness, then the novel may be a criticism of the
American Dream. The Great Gatsby takes place in the summer of 1922 around Long Island, New

Theories Of The Pursuit Of Knowledge
This quote claims that the viewpoint of a learner is not only present but necessary in the methodology
of the pursuit of knowledge in all scenarios. While I disagree with the absolute, I do agree with the
statement in select contexts. However, in objective human sciences, the subjectivity of a knower s
perspective and bias are not only nonessential, but may be dangerous to the initiation, methodology,
and resulting outcomes of inquiry. Meanwhile, in the study of ethics, perspective is theorized to be
totally essential to the pursuit of knowledge by some and totally nonessential by others. Even in the
pursuit of knowledge in a specific subjective area, it is possible to limit the subjectivity of one s
perspective by attempting to disregard the values of one s context. Whether or not a knower s
perspective is essential to the inquiry of knowledge depends upon the objectives and aspirations of the
thinker and the individual circumstances of the topic within the human sciences or ethics.
While one s own perspective may help the knower to understand the principle of human sciences, the
human sciences are generally objective as they are a science. The knower s perspective is not as
important in the complexities and advanced end of the department, and in many cases can misconstrue
or invalidate the findings by wrongly altering the process. To understand why perspective is
considered damaging in the field of human sciences, one can research the history of the perception of

Crushing Poem Analysis
the poem Crushing is a narrative with a central theme of the youthful years of under privileged
juveniles with vivid images of theft, racing, intoxication, and calming ending of a beach vision. The
poem is a wholesome picture that goes from being wild in the beginning to a calming image of a
beach and stars at the end, which is also a technique of the poem that is taking readers on a journey. It
spectacularly builds up images of fancy and elegant partying, to a calming end of evening beach
scene. This could be represented by the core question of the poem that, the youthfulness of someone is
intoxicating when someone gets lost in translation and becomes dazed and confused.
The poet is reminiscing about his glory days of being very intoxicated and rambunctious in the youth,
that are going by too fast. On to the context, lines 1 5 demonstrate the rebelling youth of all young
people. In the lines, they steal cars, cigarettes, and crates of fine french wine. They are rebellious,
taking in all of society s adult vices of smoking, drinking, and wooing women. They mention
borrowing the Mercedes, which really means that they stole or took it without permission. The
bulletproof Mercedes makes them feel as if they are untouchable like a government official. The
youthful people in the poem have a sense that they are invincible, even from the police, which they
describe them as standing beside their cars and wave (Line 10). They think they are being treated like

The Power of Carver s Little Things Essay
The Power of Carver s Little Things
To a reader unfamiliar with his work, Raymond Carver s short story, Little Things may seem devoid of
all literary devices owning to good writing. Fortunately, these people are mistaken. With his
minimalistic style, it is what Carver doesn t write that makes his work so effective. Most of Carver s
short stories describe situations that many people could find themselves in and that is why his work is
so appealing to readers. They are not restricted to harsh explicative details or over dramatized
language, but are allowed to create their own rationale for the actions of the characters and the
consequent results.

Carver describes this scene with an emotional detachment, concentrating more on what is happening,
rather than why. In her essay about understanding Carver s revisions, Hashimoto says that
minimalistic writing describes the events as they transpire, allowing the reader to draw his own
conclusions. It is most likely that this is Carver s goal.
On account of Carver s use of the outsider s perspective, the reader is not prepared for the climactic
ending: She would have it, this baby. She grabbed for the baby s other arm. She caught the baby
around the wrist and leaned back. But he would not let go. He felt the baby slipping out of his hands
and he pulled back very hard. In this manner, the issue was decided. Here, the reader comes to the
point of the story, that two people s own selfishness blinds them to the suffering they cause another.
Carver says of this approach. Almost all the characters is my stories come to the point where they
realize that compromise, giving in, plays a major role in their lives. Then one single moment of
revelation disrupts the pattern of their daily lives. It s a fleeting moment during which they realize that
they don t want to compromise anymore. And afterwards they realize that nothing ever really changes
(Carson). The story ends with the reader guessing at the emotional depth of the characters and why
they would stop at nothing to get what they wanted. As the man

Cheating Is Cheating
Cheating Is Getting Worse Cheating is a problem worldwide, everyone can admit they ve cheated
before or at least say they ve witnessed someone cheat before. The term cheating can be interpreted in
different ways, according to (Webster s Dictionary) cheating has several meanings a deception to
profit yourself , not faithful to a spouse or lover and violating accepted standards or rules . People
have been caught red handed while cheating, while others were lucky enough to avoid the
consequences. The real question is why do people take the risk and decide to cheat knowing that there
is a consequence? Cheating is an epidemic spread that is becoming worse, it s becoming worse in
schools, sports and relationships.
Today s generation has been showing the highest test scores, students have received all kinds of
honors which include scholarships. In 2009, 60 schools had been reported to the Pennsylvania of
Education of suspicion of cheating (New Orleans Magazine). They were reported of getting nearly
practically impossible test scores. Not only are students accused of cheating but the teachers
themselves are accused of cheating. Some atlanta teachers were interviewed according to (New
Orleans Magazine) Atlanta teachers said they cheated because they were afraid of losing their jobs .
Not only that 56 schools were investigated, 44 of them had participated in organized cheating on
standardized tests (New Orleans Magazine). Teachers changed answers on student s tests and
determined if the students would be bumped up a grade. Students that often cheat are driven by an
incentive to earn or obtain undeserved grades. Most students cheat to achieve a specific goal whether
it s a degree or some kind of certificate. Students have a bad mindset which causes procrastination,
perhaps one day a student would be out partying or keeping themselves busy knowing they had
homework to do. Later when it comes to the last minute they just need a quick response so they rely
on cheating. With today s technology you can get almost anything over the internet. The use of the

  • 2. Thesis On Psoriasis Abstract: Psoriasis is a disease of chronic systemic inflammation that involves not only the skin, but also internal organs. The frequency of Non alcoholic fatty liver disease was found to be significantly greater in psoriasis patients with increased risk of atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease. A large number of immunes is found in Psoriatic skin and this immune produce chemokine s, cytokine and inflammatory molecules. In the Nurses Health Study II, increased body mass index (BMI) correlated with an increased incident rate of psoriasis, and hip circumference and waist to hip ratio were all associated with a higher risk of incident psoriasis. 37 The psoriasis that are associated with metabolic syndrome and increase risk of cardiovascular disease are non alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and chronic plague. . NAFLD is the hepatic manifestation of metabolic syndrome, with its key component being visceral obesity. 38 The prevalence of NAFLD is 10 24% of the general population worldwide, increasing to 57.5 74% in obese individuals. The mortality was increased in patients with NAFLD compared with the general population and in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES III) study, the NAFLD cohort had both increased overall mortality and liver related mortality compared with individuals without liver disease. 39 While in most patients, NAFLD does not progress beyond simple steatosis, it may progress to Non Alcoholic Steato Hepatitis (NASH). The prevalence of NASH also correlates with obesity, with waist to hip ratio and abdominal obesity reported to be predictors of NASH. Diagnosing patients with NAFLD and identifying those with NASH is challenging, as they are generally asymptomatic. Clinical presentation and current radiological modalities may not be reliably to ... • 3. The Real Unemployment Rate The Real Unemployment Rate Jessi Stevenson July 14th, 2015 Macroeconomics Embry Riddle Aeronautical University The unemployment rate in the United States of America is a topic that is often scrutinized and discussed among economists, politicians and fellow citizens. Frequently newscasters are advertising monthly unemployment rate, and I ask myself this question: Is the rate being published by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) actually the true figure, or is the real number being misrepresented? In effort to answer this question, one has to understand the breakdown of the U.S. population as it relates to the actual labor force. One also has to comprehend who the government considers to be unemployed. I will be analyzing the current statistical numbers provided by the BLS, as well providing a detailed analysis of the government s perspective as to what is deemed to be employed and unemployed. As mentioned in our text, Economics (Arnold, 2011), the total U.S. population is broken up into two separate groups. They are as follows: 16 years and under, the armed forces, and the institutionalized (these 3 sections make up the first group). The second group consists of all others in the total population labeled the civilian non institutional population. The civilian non institutional population is made up of two groups those in the labor force, and those not in the labor force. Those who are considered to be in the labor force are either employed or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Importance Of Remembrance Of The Soldiers And Their... Throughout the history of the Civil War, Gettysburg was one of the most intriguing battles. It not only was the battle that had largest number of casualties but it was also located in a very isolated piece of land in upstate Pennsylvania. Gettysburg National Military Park has gone through many phases throughout its history; one thing that has not changed and that is the importance of remembrance of the soldiers and their sacrifices. The changes that occurred through the decades at Gettysburg National Battlefield mirror the social climate in the United States. In the year of 1895, Gettysburg went from being a privately owned property to becoming a Military Park. Many things would change from the Military Park though once the 1930 s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With its location Gettysburg remained untouched until tourists and looters invaded the sacred hollow ground to find souvenirs from the corpses before the battlefield was officially preserved. For example, the commission reported a problem with thoughtless or mischievous visitors, and particularly the mutilation of monuments by sacrilegious relic hunters that sometimes infest the ground with the sense of reverence wholly undeveloped. Once the battlefield was officially taken over by the Park Service, the main goal would be to protect and preserve the sacred ground. (Continue on somehow) The changes at Gettysburg National Battlefield in the 1960 s echoed the nation s patriotism and desire for unity in light of the Cold War and the Civil Rights Movement. With the change in society, Gettysburg faced an increase in population at the park each year it increased by the thousands. With the result of large crowds, the park made some changes. The biggest change at Gettysburg was the use of Mission 66. Mission 66 was a program implemented that, reaffirmed the National Park Service s tradition of promoting recreational tourism, some changes that were made to the park included, improvements in roads, trails, camping facilities, amphitheaters, and visitor amenities encouraged a recreational aspect to a many of the national parks. • 6. Off Road Driving Maintenance Off Road Driving Maintenance Off road driving should be treated differently from city driving. Maneuvering in uneven and dirt roads can be quite tough on your vehicle. Most drivers often push their cars to the limit when they are driving off road. It helps them gauge how far they can stretch their vehicle. In this case, you should always perform regular maintenance check ups on your car. After all, it is more prone to wear and tear and constant exposure to heat, dirt, and other road contaminants can cause your car parts to deteriorate faster. Doing regular inspections on your car will allow you to address any new issues as soon as possible. This makes it safer for you to travel on or off road. • 8. The Outsiders Movie Analysis A book composed into a movie is a delicate task. There are many components and scenes that are considered before being embedded in a film. In The Outsiders, there was a devious amount of detail neglected in the film. On the other hand, the book portrays the feelings and character relationships. Scenes that had specific meaning were shattered, several portions of the film were exaggerated, and the central message of the entire movie was mislaid. These fundamentals simply obscured the main message and made the movie disorientated. Hair slicked back, leather jackets, and cigars hanging from their lips. The ignorance within the movie impediments the message for the audience. Everyone in a movie theater is excited and expecting the big commission. Then the rumble begins. The reader starts to realize that nothing that is occurring in the film was in the book. This is a huge disappointment on behalf of the reader opinion. During the rumble the movie director added rain and a fire pit to create suspense. This made it distracting and burdensome to find the purpose of the rumble. The message behind the rumble was of the two different groups fighting for their rights. It was a cascade of emotions and urge to destroy the wall separating equality. Apart from the over exaggeration, the director made Ponyboy seem like a weakling. When the main protagonist looks vulnerable that just makes the movie seem preposterous. No main character should be made useless and vulnerable. Especially if in the book the character was stunning during the battle. The lack of detail and attention to the scene defeats the purpose of the book. If the film can not display the book properly then it indeed is a misinterpretation. Nonetheless, the director did not comprehend that an inaccuracy in the film can throw off the audience. In the film several of the major characters were placed as minors. This mislead a the novel reader since they know the director should had placed more attention to those characters. Sodapop and Darry were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Soon after arriving in Italy, Ruben entered the service of the Duke of Mantua, Vincenzo Gonzaga. The duke s palace had a great art collection, and Ruben found time to visit various other cities in Italy since he wasn t expected to be at the household all of the time. Rubens completed his education in Rome. During Rubens first visit to Rome, he painted 3 altarpieces for the Church of Sta Croce. In 1603, Peter s duke sent Peter on a diplomatic mission to Spain where he made an equestrian portrait of the Duke of Lerma. Maria in Vallicella. At first, he created an altarpiece that showed St. Gregory, various other saints, and Madonna and Child. The poor lighting in the church did not make a good impression of this altarpiece. Then, Rubens decided to replace this altarpiece with three images painted on slate. His mother s sickness and death would change Rubens career forever. When Rubens heard that his mother was sick, he left Italy to return to Antwerp, but he would never come back. In Antwerp, the sovereigns, or rulers, of Spanish Netherlands appointed Ruben as court painter. Archduke Albert and his consort, Isabella. Rubens created the Four Philosophers , and the humanistic atmosphere pf Antwerp helped to inspire and influence the work of art. This painting is a commemorative one with Justus Lipsius with 2 pupils being Rubens and his brother. Through the war, and the hardships soldiers faced, it was hard to return home, with the unknown expectation of isolation and seclusion, particularly in thoughts and feelings. As friends and families who stayed at home and did not experience the war, empathy was often difficult, and opinions and experiences from the war were not often talked about. Sexism In Colleges As a black person, an agender person, and an asexual person, one can assume that with the research that I have done into the diversity and acceptance of minorities at college campuses would be met with smiling brown faces lying down in Ivy League quads and LGBTQA+ students organizing themselves under a rainbow flag as school administration looked on. This is exactly what I have found in college viewbooks and within the little pamphlets that urge students to pay a $75 application fee in order to seize their future at a progressive campus, because success is a choice . But with deeper research into college life, I was met with different reports of racism, sexism, homophobia, and transphobia in many aspect of the same college life I was being ... For example, at Augusta University, women only compose 56 out of 148 administrative posts, and only 647 of the 1,481 teaching posts were filled by women or people of an nonbinary gender (Workplace Profile). The fact that women are so poorly represented in cases like this can have a great effect on the gender diversity of the university and the feelings of systematic sexism that students feel on campus. If female students don t see women in teaching positions, it can make it seem as if they aren t truly a part of campus, and that they are in a male dominated area of society. This can result in a sense of disentitlement in women and a sense of entitlement in men. As a student, I can tell you that the mansplaining in Zeilinger s piece on sexism on campus, is a real thing. Like Zeilinger says, men think it s their place to interrupt women and explain the coursework as if they were a teacher instead of a student. This is a prime example of how the sexism in faculty appointment leaks over into student life, because it makes nonbinary students and women feel as if they are simply in a male space instead of in a space created and maintained for all students regardless of gender, making them less involved in class discussions and inadvertently allowing men to take away their ... The idea of an OS having a built in security levels is now a very crucial task. This helps to secure information to not be looked at. Securing information stored and allowing only certain users to look at it are the main components to protect. Now, computers and technology are a part of our everyday life that we do not see the protection happening in the background. To understand this more, information that is stored in a database, on a computer, through emails and websites are all examples of secure information. An OS needs to have different levels of security built in that helps protect this sensitive information. For some users and companies, they have very personal information stored on their computer. Even for a regular user, an email should not be read when it is sent to someone. A computer stores what is sent, if an attacker was able to get past the password they would get that information. Essay about Physics Cantilever Lab Independent Assessment Physics Lab (SL): Cantilever Flexion Cherno Okafor Mr. Ebrahimi SPH4U7 October 21st, 2012 Introduction Purpose: The purpose of this Physics Lab is to investigate what factors determine the amount of flexion of the cantilever. Hence, the objective is to establish a relationship between the length of a cantilever, which may give some insight into the physics of cantilevers. Hypothesis: If one increases the length of a cantilever, one would expect there to be an increase in deflection/flexion of the cantilever. Similarly, if one increases the mass of the load, one would expect there to be an increase in the deflexion/flexion of the cantilever. In addition, I predict that proportionality will also occur ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... * Dependent Variable: The deflection/flexion of the cantilever in metres. This will be measured indirectly by measuring the initial height of the bottom of the cantilever with no mass added (which is equal to the height of the table) and the new height of the bottom of the cantilever after each trial, which will be measured with mass added. Hence, the difference between these heights is equal to the deflection/flexion of the cantilever. The material and other physical properties of the cantilever will be controlled by using the same yardstick as a cantilever for each trial. Data Collection and Processing My experiment is divided into two parts; experiment A (involving the relationship between flexion and the mass of the load) and experiment B (involving the relationship between the flexion and the length of the cantilever). Below are two tables in which I have recorded the data which I obtained during the experiment. The first table reflects the Relationship between the deflection/flexion of the cantilever and the mass of the load and the second table reflects the relationship between the flexion of the cantilever and the length of the cantilever. The film was so revolutionary not only because it was the first feature length animation to be created completely by CGI (Computer Generated Imagery) but also, also the film was more rounded in all respects. The characters not only looked more sophisticated and three dimensional but their personalities were also more human and fewer cartoons like. Not the characteristics expected of a Disney hero. This is shown in the way Woody constantly ridicules Buzz making fun of his name and teases him maliciously about the fact he thinks he actually is a space ranger. This brings us on to Buzz. He is super confidant and suffers from delusions of grandeur. However although he may be a little irritating he is still likeable, cheerful and helpful. He has too much confidence in own abilities. This is why when he sees the advertisement for Buzz Lightyear Action figures he completely loses his will to live and is unable to do anything. This is another theme that self belief has a reflection in what you are able to do as they both find out at the end in that when they have confidence in themselves they are able to rise above seemingly insurmountable obstacles in rescuing Buzz and getting back to Andy. Another theme is that of appearances being deceptive. Woody and Buzz immediately consider the toys in Sid s room as evil. The audience also get this feeling. Not only do they look disturbing but also they are also associated with Sid who is the main evil character. Despite their initial fears, Woody and Buzz are soon convinced that Sid s warped creations are also prisoners and are in fact friends. • 15. Photochemical Smog Photochemical Smog Gifted Chemistry IB Alternative Assessment 1997 March 19 Historically, the term smog referred to a mixture of smoke and fog, hence the name smog. The industrial revolution has been the central cause for the increase in pollutants in the atmosphere over the last three centuries. Before 1950, the majority of this pollution was created from the burning of coal for energy generation, space heating, cooking, and transportation. Under the right conditions, the smoke and sulfur dioxide produced from the burning of coal can combine with fog to create industrial smog. In high concentrations, industrial smog can be extremely toxic to humans and other living organisms. London is world famous for its episodes of industrial smog. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These conditions include : • Precipitation can alleviate photochemical smog as the pollutants are washed out of the atmosphere with the rainfall. • Winds can blow photochemical smog away replacing it with fresh air. However, problems may arise in distant areas that receive the pollution. • Temperature inversions can enhance the severity of a photochemical smog episode. Normally, during the day the air near the surface is heated and as it warms it rises, carrying the pollutants with it to higher elevations. However, if a temperature inversion develops pollutants can be trapped near the Earth s surface. Temperature inversions cause the reduction of atmospheric mixing and therefore reduce the vertical dispersion of pollutants. Inversions can last from a few days to several weeks. 4. Topography is another important factor influencing how severe a smog event can become. Communities situated in valleys are more susceptible to photochemical smog because hills and mountains surrounding them tend to reduce the air flow, allowing for pollutant concentrations to rise. In addition, valleys are sensitive to photochemical smog because relatively strong temperature inversions can frequently develop in these areas. Possible Solutions A possible solution to the problem of photochemical smog is to enforce stricter emission laws all over the globe. Many countries have varying laws on the legal limits of NOx, Carbon Dioxide, and Sulfur Dioxide. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 26. War, With Its Horror And Glory War, with its horror and glory, is something that should not be underestimated in its ability to teach truths about the human condition. War shows the bitter truth of the inevitability of death and exposes one s family and nation to danger and destruction. However, the ability of war to unify a nation and enlighten the minds of soldiers is significant and is what should be remembered most because in that, one is able to transcend them self and evolve to be a better person. In Thucydides History of the Peloponnesian War, the Athenians come to realize the role their unchecked selfishness and greed have played in their ruination because they finally acknowledge the consequences of their actions. And as death is a soldier s constant companion, the Athenians eventually accept their fate moira and learn to put fear aside and endure. Interestingly, Homer conveys a similar view on fate and death in the Iliad, and emphasizes the importance of fighting for those one loves (and the enduring kleos to be gained from heroism in battle). The lessons of war, however, manifest themselves differently in the Iliad in the way that war reveals the true meaning and purpose of life what is worth fighting for and what is not (Mannering). It becomes apparent in History of the Peloponnesian War that self interest and greed are the main instigators at work as Thucydides repeatedly communicates through the characters speeches. Political success rested not necessarily with religious devotion but with choosing the right side under the label of religious conviction. Just as religion became a matter of superior political power, so does the battle between God and the devil for Doctor Faustus soul become an issue of power. Faustus ambitious desire for power drives him to turn away from God in his pursuit of necromantic arts. In choosing between the righteous course that God presents and the damning course offered by the devil, he most carefully considers which will offer him the most power. In the opening scene, Faustus examines the merits of logic, medicine, law, and divinity, studies acceptable in service to God. He dismisses each in turn, declaring that he has attained the end of logic and medicine (1.1.10). He believes that a greater subject fitteth Faustus wit (1.1.11). Not only does it require a couple days of planning, but if done poorly, it will turn out the same. In a Mexican party, one does not care about the content or what the family can provide. Rather, they care about what they can contribute to make the party happen. The same can be said for a birthday party. One does not spend weeks planning unless it is needed. Instead, you just decide on what you want, and ask for the help of all your family members who will gladly help in any way they can. It is for this reason that these birthday parties are so symbolic, because they bring family together to celebrate someone s significant day of birth. The first step in planning the Perfect Mexican birthday party is to invite your closest family members. This often means you re brothers and sisters alongside cousins. People from outside the family are generally not invited and are shunned if they do attend. The American Nightmare The American Nightmare It was an extraordinary gift for hope, a romantic readiness such as I have never found in any other person and which it is not likely I shall ever find again (Fitzgerald 6). In The Great Gatsby, the narrator, Nick Carraway, was describing his neighbor s goal of marrying a woman named Daisy. Gatsby, however, did not realize the futility of his dream which ended up costing him his life. The Great Gatsby was written by Fitzgerald in 1925 and takes place in the summer of 1922. The belief that anyone could get rich through hard work was still alive at the time and is evident in the novel as both Gatsby and Carraway are newly rich characters. Fitzgerald himself grew up in a well off family, similar to Carraway. Later on, Fitzgerald joined the Army during World War I, as did Gatsby and Carraway. Gatsby was a successful officer in the Army when he met a woman named Daisy who would then be the only concern in his life. Carraway was a somewhat successful bond salesman who lived next door to Gatsby and liked to believe he was a fair and honest man. Daisy was a woman who, in simple terms, was a gold digger. Daisy s only concern was to stay in the upper class, so she married a rich man instead of Gatsby, which crushed his dream. • 36. Theories Of The Pursuit Of Knowledge This quote claims that the viewpoint of a learner is not only present but necessary in the methodology of the pursuit of knowledge in all scenarios. While I disagree with the absolute, I do agree with the statement in select contexts. However, in objective human sciences, the subjectivity of a knower s perspective and bias are not only nonessential, but may be dangerous to the initiation, methodology, and resulting outcomes of inquiry. Meanwhile, in the study of ethics, perspective is theorized to be totally essential to the pursuit of knowledge by some and totally nonessential by others. Even in the pursuit of knowledge in a specific subjective area, it is possible to limit the subjectivity of one s perspective by attempting to disregard the values of one s context. Whether or not a knower s perspective is essential to the inquiry of knowledge depends upon the objectives and aspirations of the thinker and the individual circumstances of the topic within the human sciences or ethics. While one s own perspective may help the knower to understand the principle of human sciences, the human sciences are generally objective as they are a science. The knower s perspective is not as important in the complexities and advanced end of the department, and in many cases can misconstrue or invalidate the findings by wrongly altering the process. To understand why perspective is considered damaging in the field of human sciences, one can research the history of the perception of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. Crushing Poem Analysis the poem Crushing is a narrative with a central theme of the youthful years of under privileged juveniles with vivid images of theft, racing, intoxication, and calming ending of a beach vision. The poem is a wholesome picture that goes from being wild in the beginning to a calming image of a beach and stars at the end, which is also a technique of the poem that is taking readers on a journey. It spectacularly builds up images of fancy and elegant partying, to a calming end of evening beach scene. This could be represented by the core question of the poem that, the youthfulness of someone is intoxicating when someone gets lost in translation and becomes dazed and confused. The poet is reminiscing about his glory days of being very intoxicated and rambunctious in the youth, that are going by too fast. On to the context, lines 1 5 demonstrate the rebelling youth of all young people. In the lines, they steal cars, cigarettes, and crates of fine french wine. They are rebellious, taking in all of society s adult vices of smoking, drinking, and wooing women. They mention borrowing the Mercedes, which really means that they stole or took it without permission. The bulletproof Mercedes makes them feel as if they are untouchable like a government official. The youthful people in the poem have a sense that they are invincible, even from the police, which they describe them as standing beside their cars and wave (Line 10). They think they are being treated like royalty in a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Power of Carver s Little Things Essay The Power of Carver s Little Things To a reader unfamiliar with his work, Raymond Carver s short story, Little Things may seem devoid of all literary devices owning to good writing. Fortunately, these people are mistaken. With his minimalistic style, it is what Carver doesn t write that makes his work so effective. Most of Carver s short stories describe situations that many people could find themselves in and that is why his work is so appealing to readers. They are not restricted to harsh explicative details or over dramatized language, but are allowed to create their own rationale for the actions of the characters and the consequent results. Little Things begins with an explanation of the setting when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Carver describes this scene with an emotional detachment, concentrating more on what is happening, rather than why. In her essay about understanding Carver s revisions, Hashimoto says that minimalistic writing describes the events as they transpire, allowing the reader to draw his own conclusions. It is most likely that this is Carver s goal. On account of Carver s use of the outsider s perspective, the reader is not prepared for the climactic ending: She would have it, this baby. She grabbed for the baby s other arm. She caught the baby around the wrist and leaned back. But he would not let go. He felt the baby slipping out of his hands and he pulled back very hard. In this manner, the issue was decided. Here, the reader comes to the point of the story, that two people s own selfishness blinds them to the suffering they cause another. Carver says of this approach. Almost all the characters is my stories come to the point where they realize that compromise, giving in, plays a major role in their lives. Then one single moment of revelation disrupts the pattern of their daily lives. It s a fleeting moment during which they realize that they don t want to compromise anymore. And afterwards they realize that nothing ever really changes (Carson). The story ends with the reader guessing at the emotional depth of the characters and why they would stop at nothing to get what they wanted. As the man ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
