Essay Health Economics
Cost benefit, cost effectiveness and cost utility analyses are forms of economic evaluation which
are useful in health economics for comparing costs and allocating resources. Health economics is
widely relevant to governments and the health sector in implementation of new policy, as it
concerns the allocation of resources in the context of a limited budget, or scarcity . Economic
evaluation is a potential tool for setting priorities in health, though it is only one of many potential
criteria, including overall budget and public attitudes and wants. Economic evaluation is already in
use in some settings, such as in pharmaceutical company proposals for government subsidisation,
but there is room for expansion across the field of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Changing factors such as aging populations and new technologies becoming available are
increasing expectations from people throughout the world, and decision makers must make rational
choices to maximise benefits to population health whilst working with limited resources.
Yothasamut et al (2009) summarise this by observing that health care resources in every setting are
always constrained, while unlimited demand is observed . The best choices in the context of
economics are the ones which maximise utility (individual satisfaction through consumption of
goods) and welfare, the sum utility experienced by all individuals in society. Decision makers often
have to seek satisfactory rather than optimal solutions, also known as working with bounded
rationality (Simon 1957 in Williams et al 2008), as it is important to pursue both efficiency and
equity in the funding of health care. Therefore, it may be unsuitable to fund the most cost effective
option if it sacrifices the equal distribution of benefits. Research in health economics can take a
normative or positive approach and this reflects the balance needed between cost control and equity
when making economic decisions. Positive economic research and analysis is concerned with how
things are and seeks to explain economic phenomena, whilst normative economic research and
analysis is concerned with how things ought to be and relies on value

effectiveness of each medication.
HYPOTHESIS
2.1 PRIMARY HYPOTHESIS
At month 34, patients with allergic moderate persistent asthma will experience better symptom
control on Oralair compared to Omalizumab and standard therapy.
Oralair group will exhibit 20% improvement in total combined symptom and medications score
(TCS) compared to standard therapy group.
Group receiving Oralair will exhibit 4% more reduction in inhaled steroid use and 3% fewer
monthly symptoms/ER visits compared to Omalizumab group.
2.2 SECONDARY HYPOTHESIS
[1] At month 34, group receiving Oralair will tolerate the medication better and develop less
adverse events compared to the group receiving Omalizumab.
Oralair group will reveal fewer number of adverse events.
Oralair group will have fewer number of drop outs due to medication .

provides physicians with a challenge as moderate to severe persistent asthma represents 5 10% of
all Asthma patients. Asthma is defined as airway hyperreactivity leading to edema, spasms and
eventually narrowing of the airways. This presents in patients as cough, difficulty breathing and
chest tightness that occasionally could be severe enough to bring the asthmatic to the emergency
department or even require admission. Inflammation and mechanical narrowing are both
contributory factors to the development of symptoms. Therapy approach generally focuses on
controlling these two factors in an acute or chronic setting. Despite maximum standard therapy
some patients will still not be able to maintain a controlled state of their disease where they are able

Critiquing nursing research
Through the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) code of professional conduct (NMC, 2004)
nurses supply high standards of care to patients and clients. One code nurses adhere to is clause 6
which pronounces nurses must maintain professional knowledge and competence, have a
responsibility to deliver care based on current evidence, best practice and validated research(NMC,
2004). Validated research involves critiquing and acquiring the skills of synthesis and critical
analysis, this enables nurses to distinguish the relationship between theory and practice in nursing
(Hendry Farley 1998).

Although the reference from 1967 is outdated it is reasonable the authors included it since it is the
only research paper found on their particular subject. However this causes the reader to speculate
the reason this subject was studied. Because the authors and the reader did not discover any other
literature concerned with the subject this, could indicate that the authors literature search was
comprehensive which could prove validity of the study. However it is wondered if other researches
believed case notes were irrelevant compared to other objects in the hospital or if this is ground
breaking research. Improvement could have been made by the authors including the search engines
they had used as this would allow replication and evaluation of the paper. The literature the authors
cited used a quantitative approach as did the authors themselves thus identifying and employing the
underlying theoretical framework and giving credibility to the paper. Cutlcliff Ward (2003)
suggests the literature review guides the researcher in discussing the results of the study in terms of
agreement or non agreement with other studies, however there is no evidence of evaluation of
material that supports or challenges the position being proposed .This suggests the researches
appear to have only reported the finding of other studies and not examined the

Decreasing Fossil Fuels
Decreasing Fossil Fuels Over the past century America has continuously used its own fossil fuel
resources and paid handsomely for additional supplies, in the race to stay current with modern
technology and life .The possession of this resource has made the United States a very prosperous
and powerful nation. The same fossil fuels that s has made America such a powerhouse are the
same that are damaging the environment and economy they have enabled. It is imperative that we
decrease our dependency on fossil fuels, or it is inevitable that our economy and environment will
suffer tremendously. With these fuels being such a crucial and essential part of Americas livelihood
and status, it brings us to the question .What are fossil fuels?... Show more content on

We will lose these natural blessings with the continuing use of fossil fuels. These fuels are
having jeopardous effects on our ecosystem. The extraction of these fuels on land degrades the
land .It destroys the habitat .The process of drilling, extracting and processing fossil fuels is not
entirely efficient and creates waste .This sometimes results in harmful by products entering the
ground. (Rabl and Spadaro). It can make it unsustainable .It destroys the habitat of animals that
live on the sites. Land extraction is not worse of two evils. Extraction in marine or wetland
environments has had severe impacts (Cleveland, Hall and Kaufmann 357).Oil spilled on water
spreads out and is carried out by water currents. This contaminated water can be ingested by
animals or worse maybe even humans. It has the propensity to clog appendages, body coverings
and membranes of marine animals. Transporting fossil fuels can cause damage as well. Pipelines
carrying oil, for example, can rupture and spread pollutants over a large area of land. In areas of
chemical spills, vegetation can be killed and unable to be grown for many years. Toxins
contaminating the ground may directly affect crops and the habitats of animals (358). Another
effect of the fuel usage is air pollution. According to Ayhan Demirbas air pollution can cause health
problems and it can also damage the environment and property. One of the main air pollutants that
helps exceed the air quality standard or AQS is

The Physics Of Atomic Structure
Lesson 1
1.
Increasing current funding for atomic structure would be a fantastic idea which could lead to
discoveries beyond our imagination. For instance, in the quantum mechanical model, the fact that it
is unable to tell the exact location and speed of the electron and cannot describe the electron as a
particle orbiting a fixed path around the nucleus provides evidential support that funding must be
placed into this to further our knowledge. This research could potentially result in terminating the
use of probability mathematical equations and replacing them with facts. By just looking at the
many revised versions of the atomic structure, we are able to see that there is potential in knowing
more which could lead to even more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many wait weeks or even months to receive an MRI, thus, making it very difficult to believe that
funding needs to go to more research rather than providing more MRI machines to be used.
2.
There is a difference in energy between the two lines because the electrons move from higher to
lower orbitals. The line within the visible spectrum is an electron that is moving from a 5th orbital
to a 2nd and the line within the Ultraviolet area is an electron moving from a 6th orbital to a 2nd,
thus meaning that the line within the visible spectrum gives off less energy when releasing light
whereas the ultraviolet spectrum gives off more energy.

Zr atom to become stable, it gets rid of 4 electrons from the 4d and 5s orbitals.
c)The Zr4+ ion is more stable because it outer shell (valance shell) is complete following the octet

the Zr atom, the Zr atom does not have a filled valence shell.

Just Is There Inequality

Sociology 101
Final Paper
The direction in which education starts a man will determine his future in life Plato
No society will ever be equal. Questions surrounding inequality in modern times are not just Is there
inequality? but instead ask deeper questions like How much inequality is there? and Where are
inequalities most prevalent? We as a society tend to be uncomfortable with the notion that ascribed
characteristics such as race help determine our life chances. One of the most curious developments
which as occurred over the recent years is how our social institutions have become more open to
those who they previously excluded, yet at the same time inequality has increased (Kahn 2011, p.
122).
One place where inequality can be clearly seen is in our school systems. Virtually all educators
believe that a school affects its students intellectual and social development, and that good schools
have more favorable effects on their students than poor schools do. But not all educators agree on
what constitutes a good school. It seems that all educators would agree that a thriving school has
access to more resources than struggling schools, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This can be attributed to many factors. First that teachers within this school setting of both high
minorities and poverty are far more likely to report problems such as student misbehavior,
absenteeism, and lack of parental involvement than those in any other setting (Doris Entwisle, Karl
Alexander, and Linda Olson, p. 227). Teachers salaries and advanced training opportunities are also
drastically lower in these schools than those of a majority white or Asian population. This alone
speaks volumes on why schools of high poverty and minorities tend to have the bad teachers within
them, which in turn limits the students lifetime opportunities who attend these

We were able to reduce costs, improve efficiencies, and maximize customer satisfaction in all
operations. Within the manufacturing operations, we reduced the cost of sales by 30 percent. In
administrative and service functions, we reduced cycle times and cost by as much as 90 percent. In
1990 and 1991 our division was used as the internal benchmark for service and administrative
quality.
This success was based on creating a Six Sigma culture in which goals and objectives were clearly
defined and communicated, the creation of a six step continuous improvement model utilizing the
JUSE (Japanese Union of
Scientists and Engineers) seven problem solving tools, and the effective management of the
change. This book is written so that others can learn and apply these techniques.
This book consists of three sections. Section One is about how to identify the need for a Six Sigma
program and how to establish a Six Sigma culture. Section Two teaches a pragmatic six step
continuous improvement model. This continuous improvement model can be learned and used by

Voter Turnout In Primary Elections
In 2016, the primary elections voter turnout was highly disproportionate to the turnout of the
general elections that same year. In the state of Utah, 545.36% more eligible voters voted in the
general election rather to the primary elections. This is due to a lack of informed voters and the
lack of societal pressure around the primary electionsversus the general elections.
Additionally, the primary elections are more likely to be an information overload to a voter. These
elections are chaotic due to there being several candidate choices, as well as there being a
difference in objectives from that of the general elections. For instance, in the primary elections the
voter is selecting between various party representatives, instead of a straight forward two party
election for president. A voter in the United States is more likely to seek a source that simplifies
the information being given, or consequently even ignores the primary election altogether. Thus
resulting in a lower voter turnout in the primaries. Alan S. Gerber s Why Don t People Vote in
U.S. Primary Elections? states Gerber et al. (2011) show that Americans are less likely to punish or
reward elected officials for their policy positions when they understand that their own views are not
well informed. Since the general ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

December 11, 2015 Title
They are the moons shining over me (Kidd 302). The secret life of bees by Sue Monk Kidd is the
story of Lily Owens, fourteen years old young girl who suffers from the guilt of being responsible
from taking her own mother s life, and who runs away from her cruel and violent father to discover
the secrets and the truths about her dead mother.
The setting of the novel is in South Carolina in 1964, during a time where prejudice and racism
was a huge problem between people. White racists were against the civil rights movement and they
were very violent and disrespectful towards black people. Lily and her African American
housekeeper, Rosaleen, find a nice and a safe place to stay in Tiburon. They stay together in the
Boatwright house. Boatwright family is consisted of three black sisters, named August, May and
June. They work as beekeepers and they worship the black Mary statue along with the Daughters of
Mary; a group of religious black women. Zach is also the part of this community, he works in the
honey house with Lily and August, and he has many situations and qualities in common with Lily.

Investigating the Effect of Exercise on Pulse Rate Essay
Investigating the Effect of Exercise on Pulse Rate
Aim: To see what happens to the pulse rate during exercise.
Prediction: I predict that the pulse rate will increase in order to take more oxygen for respiration.
The heartbeat will increase and become stronger to transport oxygen and carbon dioxide to and
from the muscle cells. The breathing rate will increase in order to get rid of the extra waste such
as Carbon dioxide. Respiration is the release of energy. Anaerobic respiration occurs during
prolonged exercise as our heart and muscle use up a lot of oxygen, this prevents oxygen from being
transported to the lungs quick enough. The word equation for this is Glucose Lactic acid and
energy. I... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The tar, which is found in the cigarette smoke, irritates the air passage and Carbon dioxide then
reduces the ability of blood to carry oxygen through the bloodstream. I predict that the non smokers
heart rate should be smaller during exercise as they have a healthier more effective heart. Oxygen is
easily pumped around the body this reduces the amount of work that the heart has to do therefore
decreasing the pulse rate.
Plan: =====
*The resting pulse rate will be taken and recorded for both the smoker and non smoker. The
heartbeat will be taken by placing your two middle fingers on your wrist were your artery crosses
with the bone. You must ensure that you do not use your own thumb as this contains a pulse itself.
======================================================================
* The results will then be recorded of the resting pulse rate and placed into
my results table.
* One minute star jump exercise will begin.
* When the star jump exercise is complete I will then record the heart rate every minute using a
stopwatch, until it returns to it s original resting pulse rate.
Key Factors: In order to make my experiment a safe one we had to follow many obvious rules by
making sure that the area we used was open and away from other people to avoid injury to others.
We made sure that proper

responsibility is present in all the situations that the characters live in and it constitutes one of the
most important challenge to overcome in the life as presented by the Sandra Cisneros and Gaines.

Emotions In Jack London s To Build A Fire
One prominent and reoccurring theme of the story To build a Fire by Jack London is the need
to possess instincts. The importance of one s instincts is brought to light when, despite
warnings from the locals, a man decides to travel along the Yukon Trail with only his native
wolf dog. It is during this trek, when they are faced with the dangers of the extreme cold, that
London brings rise to his theme: the need for one to possess instincts. He does so throughout the
story by showing the contrast of the dog s instinctive behavior and its ability to survive
compared to that of the man s. He shows the contrast by pointing out the man s unconcern for the
cold, his inability to sense danger, and finally his incapability to survive in the wilderness. The
most obvious contrast between the man and the dog is their differing reactions to the cold. The
temperature of 75 degrees below 0 does not strike fear or concern in the man. He sees it as cold
and uncomfortable and that is all. (London, 65) However, the dog, which is suited for the cold of
the Yukon, is concerned, because it knows how brutal the Yukon can be. Though it lacks the
intelligence that the man has, it is better equipped for the wilderness. The dog has primal instincts
that were passed down from its ancestors while the man does not. It is because of that instinctthat
the animal was worried by the great cold. (London, 66) London effectively illustrates the theme of
instincts being crucial to survival by

Relationship Between Alice Walker And Everyday Use
A connection between an author and his or her characters lies in the stories given to the reader,
as well as, the author s life. In this case, one could use this to show the connection between
narrator Alice Walker, and her characters, Dee and Maggie, in Everyday Use. An example of a
connection between the narrator and her characters are their common lifestyle. After the reader
views deeper into Walker s childhood they would notice that Walker grew up in an environment
much like that described in the story. Her parents were both sharecroppers, her family lived in a
rundown shack, and racial segregation was legally enforced, prompting the author to describe the
times as America s own era of apartheid (Cengage 2). Noticing the similarity... Show more content

and her characters, Walker still brings differences in Everyday Use. An example of this would
be when the reader takes a look at Walker and her character Dee. In Walker s life, she has
intertwined herself with her culture by taking actions in several walks during the civil rights
movement. An example of this is when our source reveals, Walker was invited to the home of
civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in recognition of her invitation to attend the 1962
Youth World Peace Festival in Helsinki, Finland. Following the conference, Walker traveled
through Europe and returned to Washington, DC in 1963 to participate in the March on

in many different protest highlighting her culture and taking pride in her heritage, were as Dee
took a different approach on the matter regarding her heritage. In Everyday Use Dee tells her

Addiction As A Medical Disease
Addiction, defined as a chronic medical disease, has led to great furor in the scientific
community.[1] Some argue that because epidemiologic data shows that most addicts quit, possibly
when faced with social and financial consequences, addiction is based on decisions and thus, should
be treated as a choice. Those in favor of the disease model remark that because experiments have
correlatively shown that drugs can change the brain structurally and functionally, one should treat
addictionas a medical disease. One can expect from both perspectives, that the more important
question is whether or not addiction has a biological aspect to it that can be causally linked to
substance abuse behaviors. In this essay, we will review some of the compelling evidence on both
sides of the argument and weigh their significance in order to come to a logical judgment.
In Lopez Quintero et al., 2013, the purpose of their experiment was to 1) estimate the time to
remission 2) estimate the probability of remission and 3) identify predictors of remission. They
collected epidemiologic data for alcohol, cannabis, cocaine in adults aged 18 24 of the U.S
population in 2001 2002 by an interview from the DSM IV Alcohol Use Disorder and Associated
Disabilities Interview Schedule (AUDADIS). The questions asked participants when they stopped
their dependence and with what drug. In their results, they found that while the probability of

Symbolism In The Monkey s Paw By W. Jacobs

monkey s paw, but was it really magic or simply coincidence? When reading, it becomes
apparent that the monkey s paw is magical; however, when closely reading, it seems that it may
have been in their minds all along. The disastrous events of The Monkey s Paw are coincidental
and make use of the placebo effect in the symbolism of characters and objects. Chess is a mind
bending game that challenges the wits of players as pieces are put in fate s grasp; so it is no
coincidence that W. W. Jacobs uses it to symbolize the risky decisions made throughout the story.

From this quote we learn that the whites were playing a game of chess that was so risky that it
spurred Mrs. White to intervene, thus involving all three of the Whites in the situation to come.
It is also stated that the father possessed ideas of radical changes, i.e. the wishes, that would put
his prized possession, his son, into unnecessary perils so he could get what he wants. An
example of could be when Mr. White wishes for two hundred pounds which later came with the
believed consequence of his son s death. However, this perceived repercussion is a play of the
mind and this time, the house is the chessboard. When Mr. White loses the first game his wife
states that perhaps he ll win the next one which was to begin only two sentences later. Similarly
like the monkey s paw, chess is in the mind. The placebo effect can fool even the brightest at the
greatest of ease and The Monkey s Paw makes use of its persuasive delusions. First of all, when Mr.
White makes his first wish, he believes that the paw moves in his hand, when in reality no one saw
it and he is an old man with arthritis that could have been exacerbated by his drinking. Another key
point throughout the story is that multiple times the

Ramsay thinks his grand philosophical contribution to the world seems family trivial when
described in letters of an alphabet. Mr. Ramsay sees himself as a hero struggling to reach the
next letter; it to be found dealt at his post, not having given up. He worries about fame. He
seems self involved and small minded for a moment, but the narrator ends the chapter sort of
taking up for him, asking who can blame the man for thinking of his reputation to admire the
beauty of his wife and son. Then in part three, Mr. Ramsay notes there are two types of thinkers:
those who work their way from A to Z diligently. Those few geniuses who simply arrive at Z in a

the importance of symbolism, the role of women in Minoan civilization and The Snake Goddesses
role in Minoan culture, it will become evident that The Snake Goddess plays a significant role in
Minoan art, religion and society (Witcombe).

Women acted as priestesses, made official decisions in and amongst the community, and were
responsible for organizing commune functions (Witcombe 10). These responsibilities and duties
were not often jobs of men in Minoan civilization, Moreover men are rarely seen in commanding
positions, despite attempts to identify them in such positions (Witcombe 10). It is suggested that
the reason why women played such a huge role in Minoan civilization was due to the fact that in
Minoan religion they worshiped goddesses and they were greatly influenced by them. It is believed
that The Snake Goddess was an important figure in Crete at this time, and was worshiped along
side of the Huntress, and The Mountain Mother. Mainly focusing on The Snake Goddess she
represented a strong, powerful female deity, who overall acted as an icon for women. The
influence The Snake Goddess had on women was substantial. Women became more than just
members of the community, and gained a place in society. It was no longer a man s world but a
world run by women. Even ancient frescoes and other forms of Minoan artwork provide evidence
of women being more vital than men, because depictions of women were more common than men
(Witcombe 10). After examining women s key roles in Minoan civilization it becomes apparent that
The Snake Goddess influenced women in Crete in many different ways and played a significant
part in Minoan civilization.

The Pros And Cons Of The Dark Web
Depending on one s profession or curiosity, the Dark Web, also known as Tor, can be a great
research aid to the military, the police, or just to nurture the curious mind for deeper web searching
not normally found on surface websites. The Dark Web Verses Surface Web
The Dark Web better known as Tor is a layer of the online world that is less visible than the online
websites unlike Google, Yahoo, or any other common search engines on the world wide web. The
Dark Web refers to a hidden aspect of the internet designed to remain invisible to the public eye by
any means necessary. It is a multi platform web viewer that relies on passing through a series of
encrypted tunnels to and between Tor routers that are run by volunteers and organizations around
the world. Much of the Dark Web is utilized for high risk criminal activity, such as the distribution
of child pornography, the exchange of illegal information, and weapons trafficking.
Dark Web content is only accessible through specific programs and algorithms designed to grant
privileged access (Clemmitt, 2016). This web performs several functions, such as preventing
websites from tracking Internet users who utilize the software, allowing users to visit websites
blocked by their local Internet service providers and allowing users ... Show more content on

The Negative Impact Of The Puritan Society In The Crucible
The Puritans were a religious minority group who believed that the Church of England needed to
be purified of the influence of Catholicism. The basis for the Puritan s belief was an emphasis on
the righteousness and sovereignty of God. They believed God directed all things by exercise, and
directed all things to an intelligent end. In the Puritanlife they believed in staying true to the divine
law but doing everything in moderation. The Crucible shows the exact opposite of what the Puritan
life is supposed to be like. Some people had to suffer execution because of the rumors that were
spread throughout the community. In The Crucible they experienced things such as false rumors
that were spread throughout Salem. Not only did the things that they did cause turmoil, but it also
caused a negative impact to the Puritan society as a whole.
Faith was a central part of the Puritan experience, and this is where all other aspects of their society
emerged. In the Puritan Society, religious beliefs shaped early American relationships, between the
parents and their children. Based on their spiritual tribalism, Godly parents were more likely than
ungodly parents to produce Godly children. The New Testament was their model and their devotion
so great that it was spread throughout their entire society.
Great pains were endured to warn their members and especially their children of the dangers of the
world. Reading the bible was a necessity to living a pious life. The education of the next

The Concepts Of Nature Vs Nurture
The concepts of Nature vs Nurture, are major concepts in social science. Nature is the hereditary
pattern of physical features in a human being s development. These features include, but are not
limited to, our personality, usual and unusual appearances and the general measurements of how
humans hold the attributes of being sociable, hostile behavior, their emotions, and the usage of
alcohol and drugs. On the other hand Nurture is slightly different. Nurture is the influence of the
environment that plays upon the behavior and characteristics in a human. The idea of nurture is
that humans will grow up to form their personality on the way they are raised and life experiences.
Culture is defined by the people in the environment, however, the environment helps shape and
form human personalities in order to forge a culture. Culture is created by religions/beliefs, clothing
/foods, language/social habits as well as the humanistic discipline; such as music, paintings,
literature, and many more. Culture is generated by humankind, because humans hold their belief
systems and patterns that was passed down by generations; by humans passing down what they
have learned from their families this begins to create a culture. Personality plays a central role in
both nature vs nurture and culture. Furthermore, personality is stated the total organization of
inherited and acquired characteristics of an individual as evidenced by the individual s behavior
(Hunt 119). Personality is either

Employers and employees have the legal duty to ensure that the working environment is a safe and
secure one.
Employer responsibilities are: to ensure, so far as it is reasonable practicable, that the working
environment is a secure and healthy one for all employees and for other persons that may come in
contact assuring that all the information is drawn to everybody s attention.
On the other hand the Employee s responsibilities are: When doing their job, take care not to harm
themselves or the others Respect the rules and co operate with employers in order to meet the
statutory requirements Not to misuse anything provided to protect their safety, health and welfare
2. Explain the purpose of following health, safety and security procedures in a business
environment.
Having specific procedures regarding health, safety and security and follow them is a very
important aspect in a business environment.
One reason for following the health, safety and security procedures is the legal aspect. Both the
employers and employee must comply with the law and rules: the organisation must take specific
actions (prepare documentation on the procedures and choosing personnel to be responsible for this
aspect), the staff and other persons must respect the procedures.
Another reason is the moral one: the purpose of following the procedures is to make sure no one
comes to any harm. This aspect refers to both of the parties (the

not, least of all me and I did look. [Sethe] (p. 61) This means Sethe was only a little girl when her
mother died and Nan took her in. This demonstrates that Sethe s childhoodwas tough from the
beginning. Another example of her childhood is, She told Sethe that her mother and Nan were
together from the sea. Both were taken up many times by the crew. She threw them all away but

There was something blessed in his manner. Women saw him and wanted to weep (p. 17) This
exemplifies how kind he was when Sethe told Paul D. He could make women let their emotions

when they were at Sweet Home. Life at Sweet Home was not entertaining especially when
schoolteacher arrives and treats them like real slaves. It follows then how Sethe was treated as a
slave and the reason why she killed her children.
While Sethe was a slave, she made the choice of killing her children in order to protect them. In
her view, It ain t my job to know what s worse. It s my job to know what is and to keep them
away from what I know is terrible. I did that. (p. 165) This means Sethe did not want to know what
would happen if her children were still alive. This demonstrates that Sethe wanted the best for her
children and wanted to kill them so they wouldn t have to go through slavery. Another example of
Sethe s experience as a slave is, Whitegirl. That s what she called it... A chokecherry tree. Trunk,
branches, and even leaves. Tiny little chokecherry leaves. But that was eighteen years ago. Could
have cherries too now for all I know. Morrison s point is that Sethe was beaten so bad, her lashings
became infected and was described as a chokecherry tree. This is important because the tree
symbolizes the enduring strength Sethe went through. According to Paul D., You got two

History of Nanking Massacre
Despite having the horrific Nanking Massacre occur 70 years ago, its history is barely buried
like many of the dead were at the time. The Nanking Massacre (also known as the Rape of
Nanking) occurred as a part of the 2nd Sino Japanese War, which would then become part of
World War II. This war involved the Republic of China defending against the invading Japanese
forces. Unfortunately, China was weakened due to a civil war between the Communists and the
Nationalists, so it was easily invaded. The Nanking Massacreshows the negative elements of
Human Nature and should be taught in schools because it portrays the brutality of the Japanese in
Asia. The Rape of Nanking started on December 13, 1937. This was the day the Japanese invaded...

It is estimated from 150,000 to 300,000 people were killed during the seven week period. The
Rape of Nanking shows the negative elements of humanity by portraying how the Japanese were
relentless at their tactics toward the civilians. The people of Nanking were at their mercy at all
times and any violation meant instant death. The Japanese soldiers acted without any discipline,
chivalry, or honor, which were what the original bushido code had strived for.
The massacre is significant because it would pave the way for the future of any relations
between China and Japan. Their relationship is very strained already because Japan has not
issued a mutually accepted apology for its war crimes (Yew). Neither country is willing to give
in due to denial in Japan and anger in China (Yew). The Nanking Massacre should be taught in
schools alongside the Holocaust because even though the Holocaust was extermination, both of
these tragic events show hatred at its core: Nazis against the Jews and the Japanese against the
Chinese. This event displayed that each gruesome mass killing, does not highlight, but instead
blurs the distinctions between us (Yew). Japanese troops were trained to believe the Chinese were
inferior to them, therefore they must be killed. Similarly, the Nazis were trained to believe the
Jews were inferior. The Nanking Massacre also showed how no

Descriptive Epidemiological Analysis Of Lyme Disease Essay
Descriptive Epidemiological Analysis of Lyme disease
Lyme disease is a spirochetal infection, which is transmitted by the bite of infected Ixodes ricinus
complex ticks. It is brought about essentially by Borrelia burgdorferi in the United States. Lyme
disease was initially perceived clinically in 1977 as Lyme arthritis amid investigations of a group of
youngsters in Connecticut who were thought to have adolescent rheumatoid joint inflammation.
The etiology of Lyme disease was found to be a spirochete in the mid 1980s. The rate of Lyme
disease and the geographic conveyance of cases in the United States have expanded consistently
from that point forward (Beard, 2016).
Lyme disease is the most widely recognized tick borne disease in the United States and Europe
(Beard, 2016). Since the ticks that transmit Lyme disease are frequently encountered in
backyards and recreational areas, a high level of public awareness and education should be
made available to the general public for areas that have a high level of Lyme disease. From 2005
to 2014, a sum of 251,061 cases of Lyme disease was accounted for in the United States. In 2014,
Lyme disease was the fifth most common reportable illness in the United States. Recent studies
have shown about roughly 300,000 individuals are determined to have Lyme disease in the United
States every year (Beard, 2016).
Descriptive epidemiology can be broken down by using the 5W model which is used in the military
for almost everything.

increase the strength of her argument, the inclusion of a professional opinion from a developer

needing further regulation. In doing this, she doesn t leave room for supporting details and specific

Intro to Judaeo
John Calvin
26 April, 2016 During the Protestant Reformation, there was one man who was in control of it all.
Born in Noyon, Picardy, France on July 10, 1509, Jon Calvin was known as the most important
figure in the second generation of the Protestant Reformation. Calvin played a huge part in the
spread of Protestantism and Christianity throughout Scotland, England and the Netherlands.
Although this might have been good for his reputation throughout the Christian community, he did
a few questionable things that lead those of other religions to hate him and what he stood for. By
1528, Calvin received his masters for the arts at College de la Marche in Paris. But instead of

This means that humanity is totally deprived because of Adam and Eve s relationship with God.
Although it was good and carefree in the beginning, it was severed by sin when they ate the

that trust was gone. Calvinists believe that no matter how good man does, there will always be
something God will not favor. The second and third part of TULIP are unconditional election
and limited atonement. Unconditional election is when God chooses who he wants to grace
with his knowledge based solely on the council of his own will. Limited atonement states that
Christ didn t die for all, but for those who would rightly bear the name Christian as their religion

Rappaccini s Daughter Analysis
Rappaccini s Daughter, written by Nathaniel Hawthorne, is a short story about how beauty is
within and not just physical. When Hawthorne was four years old his father was in an accident
and died on the scene, leaving his mother to raise him and his siblings alone. Thus, leading him to
have respect for all women, and it is reflected in the story. For instance, the main character Beatrice
is this aesthetic, sweet, and a naГЇve woman and Giovanni is just focused more on her beauty rather
than anything else. Moreover, when Giovanni first sees Beatrice in the garden, he describes her
as the most beautiful woman he s ever seen and is just blinded by her beauty. What he doesn t
know is that her father, Doctor Rappaccini, is a scientist who cares more about science more
than anything else. The place where Beatrice and Giovanni spend all their time together is in the
garden, which represents loneliness , and unfortunately one of the main characters will learn
that the hard way. When Giovanni meets Professor Baglioni, a professor of medicine who is
Rappaccini s rival he helps him get Beatrice, or at least that s what Giovanni thinks. However,
what Giovanni does not know is that the love of his life isn t who he thinks she is. Beatrice
Rappaccini is the daughter of a scientist who is experimenting with plants, and they have a
beautiful garden in the backyard. She is the most beautiful woman that Giovanni has ever seen
and people around the village agree that she is beautiful, but nobody knows the real her, they
just notice her appearance. She is full of life, full of energy, and her heart is so big and there isn
t a drop of evilness in her body. For an instance, the reptile contorted itself violently, and then lay
motionless in the sunshine. Beatrice observed this remarkable phenomenon, and crossed herself
(Hawthorne 411). When people cross themselves it s because they re at a funeral, something
horrible just happened to one, or someone important to them. Beatrice and Giovanni spend all their
time together in the garden and it symbolizes a place of isolation and beauty because the flowers
are poisonous but beautiful. For example, a shrub catches his eye from the color, which is purple,

New Belgium Commercial Analysis
The current television advertising for New Belgium is an extension of the personality of the

urban professional who wanted to spend more time enjoying the mountain life in Colorado. The
story is of a guy named Tinkerer who rehabs a bike in order to go on a riding adventure across
the Colorado Mountains (Beirne, 2005). This is similar to the story of how New Belgium

team that has the potential to make a run and squeeze their way into the tournament. It s worth

by quite a bit. The emergence of Keita Bates Diop as a now first round prospect in the NBA
draft has been the biggest boost for the Buckeyes. The Buckeyes starting lineup has 4 solid
starters and a rising star in Bates Diop. The Buckeyes biggest weakness is the point guard
position where they completely lack depth. Still the Buckeyes will likely end up being a 6 8 seed in

Emotional Abuse In Australia
Emotional abuse is when a caregiver fails to support a child and supply them with the security and
love they need. Emotional abuse also establishes whether the child s relationship with the caregiver
and the environment they are in is troubled, intimidating or whether they cannot support the child s
healthy development. There are currently 16,093 children in Australia s society today that are
emotionally abused by caregivers and adults.
11,194 children and neglected and are negligently treated in their homes in today s society. Neglect

The Child Protection Legislation Amendment Bill 2013 was approved on 4 April 2014. This
legislation supplies an earlier intervention which keeps families together with support. It also
enables courts to possess new powers to order parents to undertake treatment or attend services to
deal with the issues putting their children at risk. These laws establish that the Department of
Family and Community Services must contemplate adoption for children where the court has
commanded that the child cannot return to its parents or family until the age of 18 which bestows
an option for permanency and stability where foster care too often cannot. The new laws are

Why Is The Russo Japanese War Responsible For The 1905...
The Russo Japanese war did is seen as a short term factor that was responsible for the 1905
revolution, however there are many other short term and long term factors which also contribute to
being responsible for the 1905 revolution. The way the Tsar ran the country, social problems,
changing society inside and outside Russia, Bloody Sunday etc...
The Russo Japanese war saw Russia lose to Japan. Russia saw itself as a great and powerful
country, compared to others, Russia wanted to expand it empire over the Far East. Russia and

workers union which began to develop ideas for a revolution, they demanded for political change
and captured a willing audience within the working society.
The political problems are seen as a long term problem; political problems can also be seen as
being as a main factor that was responsible for the 1905 revolution. Russia was still an autocracy,
all power rested with the Tsar. Other major European states were a democracy and had an
elected parliament that spoke and worked for the people. Political groups began to form, the
Social Revolutionaries were founded in 1901, they were willing to use violence to achieve a
change in Russia, from 1901 1905 the Social Revolutionaries were responsible for over two
thousand assassinations, one being the Tsar s Uncle, Grand Duke Sergei the governor general of
Moscow.
The Social Democrats were another influential political group, formed in 1898 they two were also
willing to use violent methods to achieve their revolutionary aims. The Social Democrats wanted
to turn society around and give power to the workers and peasants of the land. By 1905 the Social
Democrats has split into two groups, the Bolsheviks and Mensheviks.
All these political groups began to educate the country on revolutionary change, how other countries
were richer and more powerful, how they needed change if they wanted a better life. After Bloody
Sunday many people in the country began to listen to the political groups, as they knew that

Reaction Paper On Feminism
Introduction
Maya Angelou once said I m a feminist. I ve been a female for a long time now. I d be stupid not to
be on my own side. Almost all of us have probably been or known someone who has been a victim
of sexism or gender discrimination in some way.
Problem
Gender discrimination has been a battle for women for many years and although progress has been
made, it still exists today.
BACKGROUND
Feminism originally didn t begin as an agenda for gender equality. It started from topics such as
education, pornography, and race to name a few. Below I will discuss a few defining moments that
will hopefully help to understand the history of feminism as well as the ideas and people behind it.
SUFFRAGE MOVEMENT
Anti slavery movements started the first movements of feminism in the mid 1800 s. In 1840,
Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucretia Mott were not allowed to sit at the World Anti Slavery
Convention in London because they were female so they organized the Seneca Falls Convention in
1848. The Declaration of Sentiments, written by Stanton, talked about the need for equality among
men and women, including voting rights. From there, the suffrage movement progressed.
(Weatherford, 2000)
Suffragettes fought for women s right to vote, but feminism included more than that. It included
legal rights, financial independence and the relationship between men and women. After the
ratification of the 19th Amendment in 1920, which granted women voting rights, feminism
changed. (Langley

  • 2. Essay Health Economics Cost benefit, cost effectiveness and cost utility analyses are forms of economic evaluation which are useful in health economics for comparing costs and allocating resources. Health economics is widely relevant to governments and the health sector in implementation of new policy, as it concerns the allocation of resources in the context of a limited budget, or scarcity . Economic evaluation is a potential tool for setting priorities in health, though it is only one of many potential criteria, including overall budget and public attitudes and wants. Economic evaluation is already in use in some settings, such as in pharmaceutical company proposals for government subsidisation, but there is room for expansion across the field of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Changing factors such as aging populations and new technologies becoming available are increasing expectations from people throughout the world, and decision makers must make rational choices to maximise benefits to population health whilst working with limited resources. Yothasamut et al (2009) summarise this by observing that health care resources in every setting are always constrained, while unlimited demand is observed . The best choices in the context of economics are the ones which maximise utility (individual satisfaction through consumption of goods) and welfare, the sum utility experienced by all individuals in society. Decision makers often have to seek satisfactory rather than optimal solutions, also known as working with bounded rationality (Simon 1957 in Williams et al 2008), as it is important to pursue both efficiency and equity in the funding of health care. Therefore, it may be unsuitable to fund the most cost effective option if it sacrifices the equal distribution of benefits. Research in health economics can take a normative or positive approach and this reflects the balance needed between cost control and equity when making economic decisions. Positive economic research and analysis is concerned with how things are and seeks to explain economic phenomena, whilst normative economic research and analysis is concerned with how things ought to be and relies on value ... With an increasing prevalence that is estimated at 10% of children in the USA. It occasionally provides physicians with a challenge as moderate to severe persistent asthma represents 5 10% of all Asthma patients. Asthma is defined as airway hyperreactivity leading to edema, spasms and eventually narrowing of the airways. This presents in patients as cough, difficulty breathing and chest tightness that occasionally could be severe enough to bring the asthmatic to the emergency department or even require admission. Inflammation and mechanical narrowing are both contributory factors to the development of symptoms. Therapy approach generally focuses on controlling these two factors in an acute or chronic setting. One code nurses adhere to is clause 6 which pronounces nurses must maintain professional knowledge and competence, have a responsibility to deliver care based on current evidence, best practice and validated research(NMC, 2004). Validated research involves critiquing and acquiring the skills of synthesis and critical analysis, this enables nurses to distinguish the relationship between theory and practice in nursing (Hendry Farley 1998). Although the reference from 1967 is outdated it is reasonable the authors included it since it is the only research paper found on their particular subject. However this causes the reader to speculate the reason this subject was studied. Because the authors and the reader did not discover any other literature concerned with the subject this, could indicate that the authors literature search was comprehensive which could prove validity of the study. However it is wondered if other researches believed case notes were irrelevant compared to other objects in the hospital or if this is ground breaking research. Improvement could have been made by the authors including the search engines they had used as this would allow replication and evaluation of the paper. The literature the authors cited used a quantitative approach as did the authors themselves thus identifying and employing the underlying theoretical framework and giving credibility to the paper. Cutlcliff Ward (2003) suggests the literature review guides the researcher in discussing the results of the study in terms of agreement or non agreement with other studies, however there is no evidence of evaluation of material that supports or challenges the position being proposed .This suggests the researches appear to have only reported the finding of other studies and not examined the ... • 5. Decreasing Fossil Fuels Decreasing Fossil Fuels Over the past century America has continuously used its own fossil fuel resources and paid handsomely for additional supplies, in the race to stay current with modern technology and life .The possession of this resource has made the United States a very prosperous and powerful nation. The same fossil fuels that s has made America such a powerhouse are the same that are damaging the environment and economy they have enabled. It is imperative that we decrease our dependency on fossil fuels, or it is inevitable that our economy and environment will suffer tremendously. With these fuels being such a crucial and essential part of Americas livelihood and status, it brings us to the question .What are fossil fuels?... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We will lose these natural blessings with the continuing use of fossil fuels. These fuels are having jeopardous effects on our ecosystem. The extraction of these fuels on land degrades the land .It destroys the habitat .The process of drilling, extracting and processing fossil fuels is not entirely efficient and creates waste .This sometimes results in harmful by products entering the ground. (Rabl and Spadaro). It can make it unsustainable .It destroys the habitat of animals that live on the sites. Land extraction is not worse of two evils. Extraction in marine or wetland environments has had severe impacts (Cleveland, Hall and Kaufmann 357).Oil spilled on water spreads out and is carried out by water currents. This contaminated water can be ingested by animals or worse maybe even humans. It has the propensity to clog appendages, body coverings and membranes of marine animals. Transporting fossil fuels can cause damage as well. Pipelines carrying oil, for example, can rupture and spread pollutants over a large area of land. For instance, in the quantum mechanical model, the fact that it is unable to tell the exact location and speed of the electron and cannot describe the electron as a particle orbiting a fixed path around the nucleus provides evidential support that funding must be placed into this to further our knowledge. This research could potentially result in terminating the use of probability mathematical equations and replacing them with facts. By just looking at the many revised versions of the atomic structure, we are able to see that there is potential in knowing more which could lead to even more ... There is a difference in energy between the two lines because the electrons move from higher to lower orbitals. The line within the visible spectrum is an electron that is moving from a 5th orbital to a 2nd and the line within the Ultraviolet area is an electron moving from a 6th orbital to a 2nd, thus meaning that the line within the visible spectrum gives off less energy when releasing light whereas the ultraviolet spectrum gives off more energy. 3. a) b)After reviewing the diagram, you can conclude that the Zr4+ ion exists because in order for the Zr atom to become stable, it gets rid of 4 electrons from the 4d and 5s orbitals. c)The Zr4+ ion is more stable because it outer shell (valance shell) is complete following the octet rule. Just Is There Inequality Taylor Fulwider July 6, 2015 Sociology 101 Final Paper The direction in which education starts a man will determine his future in life Plato No society will ever be equal. Questions surrounding inequality in modern times are not just Is there inequality? but instead ask deeper questions like How much inequality is there? and Where are inequalities most prevalent? We as a society tend to be uncomfortable with the notion that ascribed characteristics such as race help determine our life chances. One of the most curious developments which as occurred over the recent years is how our social institutions have become more open to those who they previously excluded, yet at the same time inequality has increased (Kahn 2011, p. 122). One place where inequality can be clearly seen is in our school systems. Virtually all educators believe that a school affects its students intellectual and social development, and that good schools have more favorable effects on their students than poor schools do. But not all educators agree on what constitutes a good school. It seems that all educators would agree that a thriving school has access to more resources than struggling schools, and ... Teachers salaries and advanced training opportunities are also drastically lower in these schools than those of a majority white or Asian population. In the state of Utah, 545.36% more eligible voters voted in the general election rather to the primary elections. This is due to a lack of informed voters and the lack of societal pressure around the primary electionsversus the general elections. Additionally, the primary elections are more likely to be an information overload to a voter. These elections are chaotic due to there being several candidate choices, as well as there being a difference in objectives from that of the general elections. For instance, in the primary elections the voter is selecting between various party representatives, instead of a straight forward two party election for president. A voter in the United States is more likely to seek a source that simplifies the information being given, or consequently even ignores the primary election altogether. • 17. Emotions In Jack London s To Build A Fire One prominent and reoccurring theme of the story To build a Fire by Jack London is the need to possess instincts. The importance of one s instincts is brought to light when, despite warnings from the locals, a man decides to travel along the Yukon Trail with only his native wolf dog. It is during this trek, when they are faced with the dangers of the extreme cold, that London brings rise to his theme: the need for one to possess instincts. He does so throughout the story by showing the contrast of the dog s instinctive behavior and its ability to survive compared to that of the man s. He shows the contrast by pointing out the man s unconcern for the cold, his inability to sense danger, and finally his incapability to survive in the wilderness. The most obvious contrast between the man and the dog is their differing reactions to the cold. The temperature of 75 degrees below 0 does not strike fear or concern in the man. He sees it as cold and uncomfortable and that is all. (London, 65) However, the dog, which is suited for the cold of the Yukon, is concerned, because it knows how brutal the Yukon can be. Though it lacks the intelligence that the man has, it is better equipped for the wilderness. The dog has primal instincts that were passed down from its ancestors while the man does not. It is because of that instinctthat the animal was worried by the great cold. (London, 66) London effectively illustrates the theme of instincts being crucial to survival by ... Those in favor of the disease model remark that because experiments have correlatively shown that drugs can change the brain structurally and functionally, one should treat addictionas a medical disease. One can expect from both perspectives, that the more important question is whether or not addiction has a biological aspect to it that can be causally linked to substance abuse behaviors. In this essay, we will review some of the compelling evidence on both sides of the argument and weigh their significance in order to come to a logical judgment. In Lopez Quintero et al., 2013, the purpose of their experiment was to 1) estimate the time to remission 2) estimate the probability of remission and 3) identify predictors of remission. Nature is the hereditary pattern of physical features in a human being s development. These features include, but are not limited to, our personality, usual and unusual appearances and the general measurements of how humans hold the attributes of being sociable, hostile behavior, their emotions, and the usage of alcohol and drugs. On the other hand Nurture is slightly different. Nurture is the influence of the environment that plays upon the behavior and characteristics in a human. The idea of nurture is that humans will grow up to form their personality on the way they are raised and life experiences. Culture is defined by the people in the environment, however, the environment helps shape and form human personalities in order to forge a culture. Culture is created by religions/beliefs, clothing /foods, language/social habits as well as the humanistic discipline; such as music, paintings, literature, and many more. Culture is generated by humankind, because humans hold their belief systems and patterns that was passed down by generations; by humans passing down what they have learned from their families this begins to create a culture. Life at Sweet Home was not entertaining especially when schoolteacher arrives and treats them like real slaves. It follows then how Sethe was treated as a slave and the reason why she killed her children. While Sethe was a slave, she made the choice of killing her children in order to protect them. That s what she called it... A chokecherry tree. Trunk, branches, and even leaves. Tiny little chokecherry leaves. But that was eighteen years ago. Could have cherries too now for all I know. This war involved the Republic of China defending against the invading Japanese forces. Unfortunately, China was weakened due to a civil war between the Communists and the Nationalists, so it was easily invaded. It is estimated from 150,000 to 300,000 people were killed during the seven week period. The Rape of Nanking shows the negative elements of humanity by portraying how the Japanese were relentless at their tactics toward the civilians. The people of Nanking were at their mercy at all times and any violation meant instant death. The Japanese soldiers acted without any discipline, chivalry, or honor, which were what the original bushido code had strived for. The massacre is significant because it would pave the way for the future of any relations between China and Japan. Their relationship is very strained already because Japan has not issued a mutually accepted apology for its war crimes (Yew). Neither country is willing to give in due to denial in Japan and anger in China (Yew). The Nanking Massacre should be taught in schools alongside the Holocaust because even though the Holocaust was extermination, both of these tragic events show hatred at its core: Nazis against the Jews and the Japanese against the Chinese. This event displayed that each gruesome mass killing, does not highlight, but instead blurs the distinctions between us (Yew). • 35. Descriptive Epidemiological Analysis Of Lyme Disease Essay Descriptive Epidemiological Analysis of Lyme disease Lyme disease is a spirochetal infection, which is transmitted by the bite of infected Ixodes ricinus complex ticks. It is brought about essentially by Borrelia burgdorferi in the United States. Lyme disease was initially perceived clinically in 1977 as Lyme arthritis amid investigations of a group of youngsters in Connecticut who were thought to have adolescent rheumatoid joint inflammation. The etiology of Lyme disease was found to be a spirochete in the mid 1980s. The rate of Lyme disease and the geographic conveyance of cases in the United States have expanded consistently from that point forward (Beard, 2016). Lyme disease is the most widely recognized tick borne disease in the United States and Europe (Beard, 2016). Since the ticks that transmit Lyme disease are frequently encountered in backyards and recreational areas, a high level of public awareness and education should be made available to the general public for areas that have a high level of Lyme disease. From 2005 to 2014, a sum of 251,061 cases of Lyme disease was accounted for in the United States. In 2014, Lyme disease was the fifth most common reportable illness in the United States. Recent studies have shown about roughly 300,000 individuals are determined to have Lyme disease in the United States every year (Beard, 2016). Almost all of us have probably been or known someone who has been a victim of sexism or gender discrimination in some way. Problem Gender discrimination has been a battle for women for many years and although progress has been made, it still exists today. BACKGROUND Feminism originally didn t begin as an agenda for gender equality. It started from topics such as education, pornography, and race to name a few. Below I will discuss a few defining moments that will hopefully help to understand the history of feminism as well as the ideas and people behind it. SUFFRAGE MOVEMENT Anti slavery movements started the first movements of feminism in the mid 1800 s. In 1840, Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucretia Mott were not allowed to sit at the World Anti Slavery Convention in London because they were female so they organized the Seneca Falls Convention in 1848. The Declaration of Sentiments, written by Stanton, talked about the need for equality among men and women, including voting rights. From there, the suffrage movement progressed. (Weatherford, 2000) Suffragettes fought for women s right to vote, but feminism included more than that. It included legal rights, financial independence and the relationship between men and women. After the ratification of the 19th Amendment in 1920, which granted women voting rights, feminism changed. (Langley ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
