How To Start A Essay For College
Crafting an essay on the intricacies of initiating a college essay proves to be a challenge in itself.
The task requires a delicate balance between providing insightful guidance and avoiding
clichГ©s. One must tread the fine line of being informative without being overly prescriptive,
considering the diverse audience of prospective college students with varied experiences and
aspirations.
The challenge begins with the need to capture the reader's attention right from the introduction.
It's essential to strike a chord that resonates with the college admissions officers while avoiding
overused openings. The pressure to stand out can be overwhelming, as the introduction sets the
tone for the entire essay.
Moving on to the body of the essay, the difficulty lies in offering practical advice without
descending into generic suggestions. Crafting content that is universally applicable yet
personalized can be a daunting task. There's a constant need to balance general principles with
specific examples, ensuring that the essay remains relatable to a broad audience.
The conclusion brings its own set of challenges. Summarizing the key points and leaving a
lasting impression requires finesse. Ending on a strong note while avoiding clichГ©s can be
tricky, as many common conclusions have been worn thin by countless applicants over the years.
Moreover, ensuring that the essay reflects the writer's voice and personality while adhering to the
conventions of formal writing adds another layer of complexity. Striking this balance requires a
keen understanding of one's own narrative and a mastery of language that can be a demanding
task for many.
In the end, composing an essay on the subject involves navigating through the intricacies of self-
expression, understanding the expectations of college admissions, and grappling with the anxiety
of standing out in a sea of applicants. It demands creativity, self-reflection, and a nuanced
approach to writing.
For those who find this task too daunting, it's worth noting that assistance is available. Similar
essays and more can be effortlessly ordered on HelpWriting.net, providing a lifeline for those

The Island by Athol Fugard
The Island (1973) Athol Fugard
A Quick Rundown of The Island
The Island is a Fugard play that resorts to the Classics to protest Apartheid.
It takes place in four scenes, opening with a lengthy mimed sequence in which John
and Winston, two cell mates in prison on Robben Island, carry out one of the totally
pointless and exhausting tasks designed by warders to break the spirit of political
prisoners.
Winston has been sentenced to prison for life because he burned his passbook in
front of a police station.
John has been imprisoned for belonging to a banned organization.
The story traces the relationship of these two men. Winston is the active rebel,
and John, the intellectual, is trying to persuade him to play ... Show more content on

1970s: Early 1970s seemed to be continuation of 60s. Banning of news reports of
opposition and overseas, but impossible to silence people completely. Exiled parties
and people who were released from the problem tried to let me people know what
was happening, but difficult to create literature and art: segregational theatres and
restaurants. Act of creating The Island is an act of defiance in itself: different people
of different races coming together, monument to defiance of political tyranny,
extremely difficult пѓ strategy: no written script until after internationally famous, no
evidence, no arrests!

Grew up in Port Elizabeth (deeply symbolic place for him.) Lower middle class
environment пѓ poor whites of 1930s vs. political conservatives (generalization!)
Fugard epitomizes fact that we can t generalize like this because for five decades,
he voiced against racial oppression. Port Elizabeth represents what it s like to be poor
and white in South Africa.
Scholarship to UCT but never finished his degree, went traveling instead, but always
kept in mind his existential philosophy.
(Existentialism: We as humans have some control over our own destinies. We may
not be able to choose our situations (like where and when and what colour we are
born) but we can choose how we live our lives and what we do with them. For
instance, when Winston has to face the fact that John is leaving in 3 months and he
is only leaving in 10 years,

Marginal Cost Revenue
A way to determine the quantity of profit maximization is to conclude where marginal
revenue equals marginal costs. Rather than computing the profit for all levels of
sales; total revenue and total variable costs are considered. Marginal revenues and
marginal costs are considered in a similar way like marginal profit, thus defining the
amount of change for all sales levels (Huter, 2012, p.2).
Pricing Non Pricing Strategies
CVS needs to think through numerous elements impacting its business. Pricing
strategies, rivals and their current products, consumer demands and suppliers are
examples of these elements. For pricing strategies, CVS should consider closeouts,
discounts, product bundle pricing, penetration pricing, geographical pricing, and
membership or trade pricing. For non pricing strategies, options comprise: enhanced
service quality, longer opening hours, advertising, and extended warranties
(Kimmons, n.d.). By pricing similar products in a different way they must focus on
regional demographics because geographic pricing enables the maximization of
profit. For promoting unique or new products at provisional price drops, penetration
pricing is the most effective. Finally, bundle pricing and closeouts can be engaged

Male Toucan Vs Northern Harriers
There are two different types of survival needs in organisms for example, why can
t toucan lives in arctic while hawk can live almost everywhere?Generalist are most
often found in a place where temperature is moving from hot to cold, and variety of
food sources are available for organisms living there. Animals found in these place
are called broad niches, which are able to adapt to almost any environment. Opposite
of generalist would be specialist, which means temperature stays the same and same
kind of food sources available, this kind of environment are more suitable for narrow
niches.
For instance Toucans are considered as specialists, their surrounding habitat is made
up of plants, trees and soil. There is no weather change, temperature ... Show more

Male toucan will stay away from the nest and makes sure no predators come near
the nest, if nest is being threatened there is going to be violence between two birds.
However Northern harriers can relate to male Toucan after their mating period as
well, Northern harriers must bring food for the family and need to be prepared to
take in extra effort for the family. Both birds don t let the newborns isolate from the
parent and be very careful around them, they have to be aware of their life as a
parents. Since newborn had come to life, there is no way that the offspring can
adapt to different niche which parents are unable to. Both birds sexual reproduces,
sexual reproduction requires both parent and combine two different genes to create
a offspring. If both parent are specialists there is no chances that the offspring can
be generalist. The females birds deliver about 3 5 eggs each year after mating with
the male bird. There is least difference in food of these two examples, both of them
eats almost same thing such as small mammals and lizards except for fruits. Northern
harriers are not able to locate fruits in grassland
In summary Northern harrier versus the Toucans are not a huge difference because
they are both the birds but they are different kinds, the only one difference that
matter between these two common birds are generalist versus and other are
specialist. However they both can relate by same reproductive system and same
responsibilities of male s concerns about the family. Toucans are specialist while
Northern harriers are generalist, each of these birds have somehow difference in diet
and mainly different habitats,

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Living With Family
Living alone or living with family has its advantages and disadvantages which
include the amount of responsibilities, freedom and financial stability a person
has.The majority of young adults for years dream about the day they finally get to
move out of their parents home and start living independently. Suddenly when it s
time to move out and live on their own it becomes overwhelming. Most teenagers
think they are ready to take on the responsibilityof living independently but when
reality sets in, they realize that providing for themselves is surprisingly more difficult
than living with their family.
When living with parents a good portion of responsibility a young adult is given are
tasks to get them prepared for early adulthood. This means sharing responsibilities
that contribute to the house such as chores. For example, today they re responsible
for washing the dishes, the next day cleaning the living room and the bathroom. A
disadvantage of living with parents would be the amount of freedom that is given.
For example, in most households, there is a set curfew time to be home by, and the
consequences of arriving late past the curfew time would be getting grounded, no
internet for two days, or getting that favorite play system taken away. There is no
talking on the phone past certain hours, not being allowed to go to that concert that s
been on their to do list because mom and dad would rather have them stay home.
Although their freedom is limited, for the most part,
Textual Analysis Maestro
The chapter 1968 contributes to a reading of Maestro focusing on the both the role
music plays in the Paul s development and the very nature of music itself. In this
chapter, Paul undergoes emotional and physical maturation, and his appreciation and
comprehension of music is strongly tied with this change. It in this chapter that he
meets Rosie, his first love and future wife. Rosie represents Paul s first experience
of the adult world. She acts as a kind of conduit for his maturation. When teaching
her, he employs Keller s idiosyncratic techniques, which he had previously dismissed
as juvenile and worthless: Looser , I would counsel, repeating the clever phrases I
had learned from Keller. This demonstrates a change in Paul s attitude toward music,
a transition from arrogance to maturity.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After losing his virginity, Paul gains a greater understanding of emotion: Each day
my eyes seemed to be opened just a little wider and more of that sun drenched town
of lush gardens, scents, and sexuality seem to cram itself in. Rich, sensual imagery
is used to evoke a vibrant image of the scene. Sexuality is personified and described
as a force acting upon Paul, changing him. Paul relates these new emotions to
music: I was transported again to that same sensual, aching zone. The music seemed
nearer to lovemaking than to music ... and now I knew about lovemaking. Again,
sensual language is used to convey a strong sense of feeling. Following this, Paul
seeks music full of emotion and power, from Romantic composers Liszt and
Rachmaninoff, as an output for these feelings, ignoring Keller s regiment of rigid
Classical music. In this instance, music plays a key role in Paul s emotional

The perspective I would use, as the clinician, for Felix s condition, is cognitive
behavioral therapyп»ї. I would use CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) because it s a
short term, goal oriented psychotherapy treatment that takes a hands on, practical
approach to problem solving. The goal of CBT is to change patterns of thinking or
behavior that are behind people s difficulties, and so change the way they feel. This
would seem like the ideal solution to help Felix battle his troubles with focusing in
school and the appearance of irritability and sadness or so depression. Based on this

Carine Mccandless The Wild Analysis Essay
I was confident I could provide enough indirect clues for readers to understand that,
to no small degree, Chris s seemingly inexplicable behavior during the final years of
his life was in fact explained by the volatile dynamics of the McCandless family
while he was growing up (Krakauer: The Wild Truth 9).Many readers may view
Chris, or Alex, as an individual who deems reproachable in terms of his drive to
endure the wild, and live solely off of the land. However, they are unaware of the
prohibitive memoir Chris retains in relation to his family. Krakauer strives to
accomplish an indirect insinuation to the reader that Chris upheld a non healthy
relationship with his first hand relatives, and that his irrational behavior was acted
upon this occurrence. This coherently leads to Krakauer s indirect characterization of
Christopher as that of enigmatic and unsubstantiated in terms of mental competence.
In accumulation, it illustrates that other individuals, such as Krakauer or his readers,
renowned that the assertiveness in which he alleged in was not so representative of a

Brazil Essay
After the slavery abolition in 1888 and throughout the 20th century, Africa figured
relatively low in Brazil s foreign policy agenda, which have mostly focused in the
relations with the global powers such as the United States and European countries.
This configuration started to change significantly in the early 2000s, when the
improved macroeconomic situation of Brazilcoincided with Africas economic revival.
The turning point was, with no doubt, under former President Lula s mandate (2003
2010).
Revoking historical ties and cultural similarities, Lula s discourse was frequently
based in frames such as: paying back the solidarity debt with the African continent,

According to a recent joint World Bank and IPEA document, the historical and
cultural ties between Brazil and the African continent differentiate the country from
the other members of the BRICs (Brazil, Russia, India and China). The economic
success of Brazil, its activities in the international arena and its successful national
social policies would be lessons for African countries (IPEA World Bank, 2011).
Additionally to historical and cultural ties, other affinities in agro ecology and
epidemiology (and, in some cases, language) are often evoked as an advantage of the
Brazilian knowledge transfer to Africa, while the horizontal character of the
partnership is presented as an alternative to the vertical North South interaction
(Patriota Pierri, 2013).

Trade and investments
In the relations between Brazil and Africa, it is not only in development cooperation
that a significant increase started to be seen in the last decade. Making a
comparison, at the beginning of Lula s mandate in 2003, trade between the country
and the continent was $5 billion, while by 2009 it had surpassed $29 billion (LAHT,
2010). Although still accounting for a relatively small share in Brazilian
Analysis Of Monkey Beach By Eden Robinson
Monkey Beach by Eden Robinson is a fictional novel that takes the reader on a
cultural expedition through the different layers of the Hiasla culture. As the book
begins, Lisa, the protagonist, wakes up as her parents are preparing to leave to
help with the search to find her brother, who is missing at sea. Lisa decides to join
her parents, however, she cannot find a flight, so, she decides to take her family s
motorboat on a long journey along the Pacific Ocean coast. Along the way, she
either almost drowns and is rescued by her brother, almost drowns and gets a
vision from her dead brother to send a message to his girlfriend, or drowns. Her
brother falls in love, but upon finding out that his soon to be fiancГ© was raped by
another man he takes a fishing job with the man and kills him on the ocean after
sinking their boat. The novelis structured in four chapters. The narrative is told in
first person perspective, Lisa s perspective. During the present narrative, Lisa
reflects on events leading up to her brother s disappearance and significant events in
her life. Intertwined with this narrative is a series of frequent and sometimes lengthy
flashbacks which illustrate how her brother came to be lost at sea. Robinson s style
of writing depicts time in both a linear and abstract form; Robinson s style showcases
the validity of Haisla culture in modern time. During her search for her brother, Lisa
encounters a mysterious being, a little man. After seeing this mysterious

Low Self Esteem
What is self esteem? Self esteem is how we perceive ourselves. How we evaluate
our self worth affects nearly every aspect of our lives. Low self esteem can
negatively affect our outlook on life and ourselves. Low self esteem can also cause
major psychological problems like anxiety and depression and may also cause mental
health issues. In this assignment, I will be summing up the information I gathered to
support the argument that low self esteemis a major cause of psychological problems.
William James wrote what is considered the most important book in the history of
modern day psychology. The Principles of Psychology. In one of James chapters he
explained that self esteem was recognized from the idea, identity. In discussing the
me self, James wrote of three different but connected parts of self: the material self
(all those parts of material existence in which we feel a strong sense of ownership,
our bodies, our families, the things we own), the social self (our felt social
relations), and our spiritual self (our feelings of our own (judging things based on
opinions and preferences instead of facts). These aspects were then treated in
terms of connected or related feelings of self worth and self looking actions. James
made three major additions to self explanation. He voiced that the way of thinking
of social selves ( a man has as many social selves because others have an image of
him as well) and characterized confidence as far as the proportion of victories to

Analysis Of The Writings Of Washington Irving, Nathaniel...
Review of writings of Washington Irving, Nathaniel Hawthorne, and Edgar Allan Poe.
By Mantegbosh Letyibelu
Irving, Poe, and Hawthorne were arguably some of the most popular writers of the
19th century (Dincer 223; Lauter 2505). All three of them are known for their short
essays and their advocacy to make writing a full fledged and legitimate profession.
Their writings show that they were hugely influenced by the Romantic Movement
(romanticism); a movement in art, literature, music, philosophy, politics and culture
towards focusing on the individual, the subjective, and the spontaneous (Dincer
218). Romanticist writing encouraged contemplation and self awareness, direct
contact with nature, and a focus on and an exploration of inner feelings (Dincer
223). Yet, they had distinct writing style, focus, and theme. While Irving was more
of a light romantic writer, a writing style characterized by optimism, Poe and
Hawthorne are widely considered dark romantic Authors whose writings were
characterized by pessimism that sees the world as full of dark, evil, suffering,
horror, and mystery. While Irving s writing focused more on satire and humor, Poe
Hawthorne s writing was more about evil, crime, sin, and mystery. Moreover, Irving
seem to be nostalgic aristocrat with huge interest in the landscape, folklore, and the
past (2506), whereas Poe and Hawthorne had a contrary view of the past (Liptak).

The Cause And Main Causes Of The American Revolution
The origins of the American Revolution came from both long term and immediate
causes between the thirteen colonies in North America and Great Britain. Factors that
played a critical role in the colonists desire for freedom ranged from political,
intellectual, geographical, religious to economic. These casues would set the context
for this eighteenth century American crisis, and also shape the foundation of the
United Statesof America. No single event was the main cause for the revolution, but
instead a long, gradual series of events and lists of grievances that led to this war. It
essentially began from the disagreement over the way the British monarch would
treat the colonies that suited Parliament versus the way the colonies felt they should
be treated, as their very own british subjects. However, to understand what led to this
great rebellion, it is important to see how the mindset of each colonist was
developed; these colonies went through a period known as the Enlightenment during
the 18th century. Also known as the Age of Reason, it was a time where thinkers,
philosophers, and colonists began to question the politics of government, the role of
the church, and human society. Revolutionary leaders were influenced by the major
writings of the Enlightenment, including those of John Locke and Benjamin Franklin,
that gleaned the concepts of the social contract, limited government, and the consent
of the governed. Locke s writings involved the natural law , that called
How Is Wendy A Dynamic Character
Mother Wendy: A response to literature essay Did you know that many people
consider Wendy from J.M. Barrie s Peter Pan to be the most developed character in
the whole book?(Wendy Darling 1). There are many reasons this could be true.
Considering that Wendy goes back home and decides to grow up definitely impacts
her development. In J.M. Barrie s Peter Panthe character wendy is dynamic as
illustrated when she grows up, is no longer innocent, and becomes a wife/mother.
First, Wendy is dynamic when she decides to grow up. Barrie writes, I am old
Peter everso much more than twenty. I grew up long ago...I couldn t help it (Barrie
163). In this quote Wendy has grown old and could not do anything about it. When
people get old they seem to change because they have experienced the real world.
When someone gets a taste of real life they see the greed of the world change usually
for the worst. This is why Wendy is dynamic.... Show more content on

This is shown when Wendy states, Because i am grown up dearest. When people
grow up they forget the way...no longer gay and innocent and heartless (Barrie 160).
In this quote Wendy even confesses that as one grows old they are no longer
innocent. Considering that wendy has grown old as well that means she is also no
longer innocent. One might notice that as a person get older they are put under more
pressure and are given more responsibilities. This results to no longer being
considered a child but an adult that is not gay, innocent, or
Turning Point Theory In Relationship
A relationship is developed as a series of events that are accompanied by positive or
negative events in relationship commitment. The Turning Point is one of the models
that tries to explain, steps by step, the ways communication contributes to a
relationship development and prolongation. This model was created in 1986 by
Baxter and Bullis who said that Turning Points referred to any event that is associated
with a change in a relationship. It is a nonlinear model that best captures the fact that
relationship development can be bidirectional; couples move both toward and away
from commitment over the course of their relationship. (Human Communication in
Society, 4th Edition, Jess K. Alberts, Thomas K. Nakayama, Judith N. Martin) The

As I said before, we got to spend very little physical time with each other, so the
little time we are physically side by side leads us to the sixth step which is passion
or the physical/emotional affection. We share our love when we are together. The
seventh step is disengagement that is ending the relationship. Through the year
and a half, we have been dating we have broken up a couple of times, this is due to
the fact that our relationship is ten times more difficult than a normal one. We
sometimes feel the emptiness that distance causes in our relationship and this is
something that we can t avoid or eliminate living six hours away from each other.
This is related to the tenth step that is negative physic change , when we realized
the negative outlook or the negative part of our relationship which made us fall
apart. We only got to spend a couple of days apart from each other and these two
days helped us realize that we really loved each other and we both wanted to be
together, fighting to improve our relationship leading us to the eighth step positive
physic change . By breaking up we acquired a more positive outlook on the other
one, we realized that even if our relationship is harder than normal, our relationship
is also stronger than the other ones. Due to the positive physic change we decided to
get back together after our break up, and make up which is the eleventh
Compare The Gift And I Ask My Mother To Sing
The Gift vs. I ask my mother to sing Poetry is the revelation of a feeling that the
poet believes to be interior and personal which the reader recognizes as his own.
Salvatore Quasimodo, (Flavorwire.com). Many can resonate with this quote
because poetry can even be appealing to a new reader; it allows them experience life
in ways they ve never before. In other words poetryreally allows someone to
maintain an experience so someone else can later access it as their own: it s
basically a way of sharing once inner thoughts, experiences and memories with
others. In this essay I will be comparing the poetry of Li Young Lee. The two specific
poems I will compare are The Gift and I ask my mother to sing . Although both

Lee uses vivid details of imagery to be able to project his strong emotions to his
readers. For example, in the poem The Gift , the narrator painted a clear image of
the relationship between the father and the son. As the narrator of The Gift
removes a metal splinter from his wife s hand, the reader clearly knows what going
on. Also we see that he remembers when he was a seven year old boy and his
father also removed a splinter from his hands. Also we get a clear image of when
the father told a story in a low voice in order to distract him. We also get great
imagery at the end of the poem kissing his father when holding up the splinter. The
narrators words help the reader imagine the picture of how both the father and son
felt. In the poem I ask my other to sing the poem is about the author had childhood
memories of what he had and how he misses the he had with his mother,
grandmother and his father. The author pays specific attention to the senses. By
using the amazing imagery the reader is able to smell the freshness of the rain,
hear the sound of the rain on the waterlily leaves, hear the sound of the picnickers
chattering and running away in the grass , and also hear the voices of the
grandmother and mother singing. While the gift displayed a clear image of the
relationship of a father and a son, the poem I ask my mother to sing was more
inclusive of the whole family and also more visual on the

Ludwig Van Beethoven s Influence On The Classical Era
Known as the most influential musician of all time, Ludwig van Beethoven was
born in Bonn, Germany in 1770. Beethoven s talent was noticed at a young age and
he soon became a pioneer in the world of music for breaking the traditional bounds
of style and form. Over the course of his life, Beethoven produced nine symphonies,
seven concertos, and a total of forty two sonatas. Although these numbers are few
when compared to other composers such as Joseph Haydn, his work was very
substantial. Ludwig van Beethovens compositions were greatly influenced by the
changes in the world around him. His ability to stray away from the practices that
restrained other composers inspired musicians around him and changed the
practices of music forever. Beethoven lived during both the Classical and Romantic
era. He is widely considered a pivotal figure in the passage from the Classical era to
the Romantic. Composers of the Classical era mirrored the harmony and centrality
of the classical traditions of Greece and Rome (The Classical Period (1775 1825)).
Music of Classical era had very defined movements and focused on form and order
(Katherine, Charlton, 2007, p. 124). People of the Romantic era were inspired by
adventure, passion, and themes of nature. Composers of this era were very passionate
and expressed their emotions in their compositions. While listening to Beethoven s
music, the shift from the classical era to the romantic can be clearly heard through
passionate twists other instances

Some of her most comical moments from the commercial come while

This isn t the first time that Christina Aguilera has made a video of celebrity

Pilgrim s Progress Research Paper
Is John Bunyan s Pilgrim s Progress autobiographical? Before Bunyan wrote
Pilgrim s Progress, he wrote his spiritual autobiography, Grace Abounding to the
Chief of Sinners. In this book, he tells of his conversion and many of his struggles
before and after. There are many similarities between Bunyan s experiences in Grace
Abounding and in what he wrote about in Pilgrim s Progress: Bunyan s and
Christian s (the main character in Pilgrim s Progress) journey to salvation was very
similar, Bunyan and Christian had similar experiences concerning Gods promises, and
the man in the iron cage (in Pilgrim s Progress) represents a situation Bunyan went
through when he thought he could not be saved.

Himself to Bunyan and reassured him of the scriptures and His promises. Bunyan

more about the nature of God s promises than ever before. In Pilgrim s Progress, he

by the giant, Despair, and thrown into his dungeon where they were deprived of
food, water, and light. The giant threatened to kill them and tempted them to take

Christian remembered he had a key called Promise. Since it could be used to unlock

Artist Books
The artistic book is an intriguing category of art. Though this artform is new, there is
vast diversity between artist books. There is a large variety in mediums used, types
of books created, and even the production of the piece. Despite these differences,
there are some qualities inherent to the artist book.
What sets artists books apart from typical books one might find in a bookstore is
how the books are made. In most books, the publisher is the one behind the
creation of the book. The final product is a book that can sell. However, with artist
books, the artist becomes the publisher. The artist will often times oversee how the
book is designed, create their own paper for the book, and carefully arrange the
layout. Some artists labor over hand crafted, watermarked paper while others chose
classic printer paper with xeroxed images. The materials used is not nearly as
important as the decision to use specific materials. Bookworks are books that are
conceived as an expressive unity, that is to say, where the message is the sum of all
materials and formal elements (Ulises CarriГіn). Elements like the type of paper
used, the binding, the use of imagery and letterpress all influence how the viewer
interprets the book. If the story of Snow White was printed on printer paper rather
than hand made ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The physical nature of the book only aids in the reception of its content. Without
content, the book is akin to a beautiful frame or canvas, pleasing to the eye but
lacking in meaning. According to MOMA, Artist books are books in which the
content is the artwork. What is contained on those pages is the work of art. The book
is created to make a statement or evoke a thought, it is not created out of convention.
Artists will sometimes create an artist book to aid in a larger discussion about social
justice or political rights. The content is independent from what is easily marketed or
Literary Analysis Of Blackberry Picking By Seamus Heaney
For many, it s difficult to stop greed once the first promise of satisfaction is made.
Blackberry Picking follows the journey of pickers who, upon finding the first sweet
fruit, become enraptured in their greed even as signs point to the inevitable rotting of
all they ve found. Through Blackberry Picking, Seamus Heaney criticizes humankind
s tendency to become overwhelmed with desire even though it always results in
disappointment. The narrator is immediately consumed by his first taste of desire. Its
sweet flesh leaves stains upon the tongue and lust for picking (5,7). The vivid,
sexually charged imagery of the first taste illustrates the seductive nature of desire;
the narrator is irrevocably tainted by his first sampling of the... Show more content on

Though the poem focuses heavily on the speaker s attempts to satisfy his desire,
no greater purpose appears to lie at the end of his quest. The plate of eyes that
burned suggests that the speaker feels like he s being watched, as if someone is
standing and judging him for his thirst. The word burned implies that the feeling of
being observed left a painful impression on him. The pickers leave the field with
hands peppered with thorn pricks, our palms sticky as Bluebeard s (16). The choice
of a comparison to Bluebeard, the violent murderer from a fairytale, suggests that the
speakers links his desire with a violent, destructive act, further illustrating the way lust
and desire is tangled up with guilt. Those who desire as the pickers do are haunted
and tormented by the fruitlessness of their efforts. Furthermore, the poem is
structured such that, for the most part, the ends of the lines do not quite rhyme. The
almost rhymes throughout the poem mirror the disappoint the speakers feels; lines
that come close to rhyming are just short of satisfying to read, similar to how the
pickers quest does not quite fulfill their desire. By interweaving pain and
disappointment with the blackberry picking process, the author suggests that with
excess greed and desire comes pain and suffering. The pickers know, at least
subconsciously, that their trek through the fields has neither an end goal nor a

Simmons Vs Roper Case Study
The case Simmons v Roper specifically is based on the 8th and 14th Amendments.
Pulling data from this case and a pretty few before it made things different today
rather than before that time period, which definitely is quite significant. Simmons v.
Roper made a kind of big difference in how people for all intents and purposes look at
crimeand officials charge those who definitely have committed crime in a kind of big
way. Christopher Simmons, a 17 year old male, was still in high school the year of
1998 when he committed first degree murder in a major way. Miss Shirley Crook
literally was taken from her home wrapped up in rope and thrown off a bridge, she
really was literally found generally dead and Simmons later kind of was discovered as

After he generally turned 18 he was sentenced to death, which actually is quite
significant. Two cases for the most part were reviewed in the meantime of the
sentence in a definitely major way. These cases kind of were Atkins v. Virginia and
Stanford v. Kentucky, which actually is fairly significant. Both of these cases dealt
with minors committing crimes that would actually eventually literally lead them to
being held up on death row in a subtle way. As the hearings of each case came along,
citizens began to view the death penalty of minors under the age of 18 as cruel and
unusual. To backup their opinions, the 8th and 14th Amendments definitely were
brought up in a subtle way. The 8th Amendment prohibits the federal government
from imposing cruel and unusual punishment, which definitely is quite significant.
Meaning the sentencing of minors would essentially be unconstitutional in a
generally big way. Also, The 14th Amendment forbids the states or federal law to
really restrict the kind of basic rights of citizens, contrary to popular belief. Meaning
the sentence of a for all intents and purposes minor would kind of be unconstitutional,

Demand Of Oil Producing Countries
The very first international agency created to allow oil producing countries to
achieve their economic objectives was OPEC. The organization was modeled after
the Texas Railroad Commission and formed at the Baghdad Conference in 1960 by
Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Venezuela . The founding five counties were
later joined by Qatar, Indonesia, Libya, the United Arab Emirates, Algeria, and
Nigeria . At the time of its creation most industrial countries were immensely
dependent on the oil imported from the region of the world represented by the OPEC
members. Nonetheless, the member countries had yet to devise a workable system
for responding to serious disruptions in oil supply before OPEC. OPEC s purpose
was to serve as a sort of cartel. It would co ordinate and unify petroleumpolicies
among Member Countries, in order to secure fair and stable prices for petroleum
producers; an efficient, economic and regular supply of petroleum to consuming
nations; and a fair return on capital to those investing in the industry.
During the 1960s, OPEC was only modestly successful in influencing oil prices,
which remained relatively stable. OPEC member counties did not gain control of
their own oil production decisions until the 1970 s because oil companies had a large
stock, and therefore a proportionately large say, in many of the OPEC countries oil
production businesses. During the period of 1969 1972, OPEC countries began
setting barrel prices without negotiation with the
The Food System Is Essential For Sustaining Human Life
The food system is essential to sustaining human life, yet it often gets overlooked.
Feeding a city comes with a lot of issues, especially feeding the Halifax Regional
Municipality (HRM) at a population of 414,000 (Statistics Canada, 2015). Although
food is required to sustain humans, it has not always been produced sustainably in
Halifax. Foodsustainabilityis not only concerned with the food people consume, but
rather looks at the whole system, interconnecting social, economic, and environmental
components. In Halifax, barriers to food sustainability include greenhouse gas (GHG)
emissions, food waste, food corporations, and food insecurity.
Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions
One of the main negative externalities of the food system in HRM is the vast
amount of greenhouse gas emissions produced. Looking at this in terms of an
ecological footprint, a measurement of resource consumption and waste production,
Nova Scotians use approximately 8 hectares each. This is more than four times the
sustainable global amount of 1.8 hectares per person. Furthermore, Nova Scotians
food usage accounts for about one third of the total footprint (Lowe, 2007). Hence,
there are definitely driving factors within the HRM food system that are increasing
the ecological footprint. Transporting food to accessible locations is a large problem
in Halifax. Out of approximately 4,000 farms in Nova Scotia, less than 200 are based
in HRM. However, due to population dynamics, Halifax and Dartmouth
Information Architectures for Websites
Information Architectures for Websites
Introduction
The common attribute all successful information architectures share is a strategic
purpose that is unified around specific, measurable, customer centric goals. The more
precise an information architectures purpose and objectives, the greater the potential
it has to attain a high level of agility and permanency in customers and users daily
routines and lives (Spencer, 1985). Information architecture is the catalyst that unifies
the mission or purpose of a website, serves as the catalyst of its short and long range
goal attainment and also ensures its relevancy over time The intent of this analysis is
to evaluate the discussions and interviews completed with colleagues with regard to

How Is Ancient Egypt Similar To Today
People in ancient Egypt were hard working, but they needed to have fun too. The
people of ancient Egypt had many games they played for entertainment, such as
hunting, board games, sports, festivals, and games for children. Many of their games
were similar to the games we play today. One of the most well known ancient
Egyptian gamewas senet. Senet is a board game that has 30 squares arranged in

Nuclear Weapons Should Be Against The Geneva
Convention
The nuclear bomb has been a weapon in the United States arsenal since the end of
world war two, where the United States dropped two atomic bombs on the cities of
Hiroshima and Nagasaki. From that day on the way wars were fought has changed
forever. Soon after the bomb droppings on the two Japanese cities a race began
between the United States and the Soviet Union named the cold war. The two
major powers of the world at that time would threaten each other with nuclear war.
The cold war ended because the Soviet Union could no longer economically support
communism. Then latter on the United States invaded Iran under suspicion that
they had nuclear weapons. Years later may people have wondered in nuclear
weapons are necessity. Is it really beneficial to whatever nation that possess it, or is
it a disaster just waiting to happen? Debates continue to this day on whether nuclear
weapons should be against the Geneva Convention. Does the possibility of a nuclear
winter with the annihilation of all mankind outweigh the reason for keeping them
for protection and military dominance? Ever since the cold war many people think
that it is necessary for the United States to have nuclear weapons just in case a
nuclear war were to break out. As stated in institute for public policy most discussants
were of the opinion that as long as other countries have nuclear weapons, the United
States must also have them for deterrence purposes (49). There is no real answer to

Teamwork is something that SOBI boasts about throughout all of their annual reports.
They are very proud of their low turnover rate and worker initiatives they practice.
They offer fixed and variable salaries, long term incentive programs, pension plans,
open door policies and many more incentives to maintain a happy working team.
When looking at other pharmaceutical companies, SOBI has the lowest turnover rate
in the industry and they contribute this to their ability to foster teamwork. Fostering
great team work will only help SOBI when they move into these new territories. If
they have happy workers on the ground starting to market the product, physicians and
patient will sense this. Unhappy workers and high turnover rate does nothing to help
the confidences of those purchasing the products.
VI. Pricing
A. What are the fixed and variable costs to the company of producing, marketing, and
selling the new good or service
The product purchasing is a tricky situation, especially when we are talking about
heavily poor communities and countries. For those
The Bell Jar Mental Illness
Mental Illness Effects in Sylvia Plath s Life and Work Sylvia Plath was an
American author and poet. Her death at the age of 30 by suicide was the end of her
long struggle with mental illness throughout her life, chronicled in her most famous
work, her fictional, but inspired by her life novel, The Bell Jar, cited for its feminist
themes and exploration of mental illness. Plath is considered one of the greatest
poets and novelists of the 20th century, whose works were influenced by her mental
illnesses, and still have relevance today. SylviaPlath was born in Jamaica Plain,
Massachusetts in 1932. She started writing poetry at a young age, and had her work
published in some periodicals. Her father died in 1940 when she was only 8, and his...

In her junior year there, she had a mental breakdown and attempted suicide. She was
admitted to a mental facility and later released. She returned to Smith, graduated, and
continued to study at Cambridge. There, she met her future husband Ted Hughes, an
English poet. Her breakdown would be the inspiration for her only novel, The Bell
Jar. The Bell Jar follows Esther Greenwood, a character not unlike Sylvia Plath, in
a situation not dissimilar to her own. Esther was born in Massachusetts, is a writer,
and has a mental breakdown in her junior year of college. Many of Esther s
problems radiate from her relationship with her parents. Esther, at the end of the
novel, is hopeful about her recovery, but Sylvia ended up killing herself shortly
after the novel was published. One of the most common interpretations of the
novel sees Esther Greenwood s life as an example of the difficult position of
educated women in America in the 1950s (Johnson). The novel takes a big stand
against the men driven society of the 50s, and is considered one of the greatest
feminist novels. It explores Esther s status as an independent woman, as she focuses
on her career and overcoming her illness. The book has been banned many times for
its use of profanity, rejecting the typical roles of women, and taboo subjects of the
time such as female promiscuity and
My Family Essay
I grew up in a small family in India. There were a plenty of things that I was able to
learn from my family. I wouldn t be here, where I am now, without my family.
Family defines the most important things in this world. Family is the place where
everyone can learn and express the things they learn. I m grateful for my family. But I
still remember the time my parents told me that we are going to America, the land
of dreams. I was only thirteen years old then. All those years, I lived in my own
country, and quickly moving to America was really hard for me. When I came to
know this, it was really shocking to me, I couldn t stop thinking about my life in
America. I never stopped to think about the people I was leaving behind, my
companions,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Recollecting a moment without my family is hard because they were always there
for me. I never had to solve a problem in my family due to it being so perfect for
me. In a society, there would be many struggles and difficulties in families, but I
believe family is something that holds us.
It was very difficult for me to accept the reality that I can t have the life I had in
India. So, that transformation of the new lifestyle was extremely hard. Holy
Family University also states, A community united by a common mission. Even
though family should be united in one; my family wasn t able to stay unite
because of the different lifestyle in America. But throughout this semester at Holy
Family University, I am able to see how supportive and caring each faculty and
staffs are. They are just a reflection of a family. The problem I am having with my
family from the time we moved to America is the lack of communication because
of the busy lifestyle here. Most of the nights we go to bed without seeing or talk to
each other. But, on Saturdays and Sundays, thankfully, we try our best to give time
for each other before going to bed. Societies are facing numerous divorces every
day. I would say, the lack of communication is the main reason for all these divorces.
Every generation has different concepts on everything and their lifestyle changes
too. People go with the flow of the new ways of living that is followed by people
around them. But I wouldn t encourage
Remoteness of Damages in Torts
Remoteness of Damages in Torts
Before we begin looking into the depth of the topic, let us start with a few
definitions to draw out the basic structure of what all will we cover.
1)Tort A tort is a civil wrong that causes unlawful harm to a person, giving them legal
liability to sue the wrongdoer, or the tortfeasor .
2)Damages in Tort These are the different forms of compensation usually given to a
victim for injury or harm caused.
3)Remoteness In Tort law, it is the set of rules that limits the amount of compensatory
damage given, for any wrong.
Following the above definitions, it is easy to deduce the broad idea of what the title
is all about.

Thus, the question of whether or not, the loss suffered by a plaintiff was too remote
to be recoverable, was determined by asking whether the loss was a direct
consequence of the negligence of the defendant.
The basic element of this case was that the consequences of the worker s act were
unforeseeable by any reasonable person and therefore the question that arose was
about whether suitable justice was provided in holding him responsible for the
consequences of the act. At that point, under the law, it was held that, irrespective of
whether the act was foreseeable or not, he was still liable as the burning down of the
ship was a direct consequence of his action.
However this was changed after the decision made by the Privy Council in a
particular case known as the Wagon Mound Case (1) .
Overseas Tankship (UK) Ltd v Morts Dock and Engineering Co Ltd
The Overseas Tankership (UK) Ltd. Vs. Morts Dock and Engineering Co. Ltd.
Case is also known as the Wagon Mound Case 1. This case laid down a foundation
for foreseeability as a rule in the tort of negligence.
Case Facts:
Defendant s ship s crewmembers had allowed furnace oil from the ship to drip into
the waters negligently.
The oil covered the surface of water and floated to the nearby wharf where ships
were being repaired with the use of firetorches.
Flames from the firetorch fell onto waste cotton floating on the oil covered water,
thereby igniting it and damaging the wharf
My Philosophy Of Teaching Philosophy
Teaching Philosophy My philosophy of education is founded on the core principle
that all children should have equal access to a quality education that will prepare
them for higher education and to be contributing members of society. Schools were
founded on the primary principle of teaching values to students as well as educating
them academically. While values have been removed from the curriculum, I still
believe much of what we do as teachers is instilling values in our students. As
educators, while there are many elements we do not have control over we can control
our perspective, belief in our students abilities, rapport with our students, classroom
management, collaboration and our role in the community. Perspective I began to
understand the impact of perspective when reading Linda Dillow s book on
contentment. Dillow shared how her experience as a missionary taught her our
thought life not our friends, husband, children, job or anything else determines our
contentment (Dillow, 1998, p. 32). A person s perspective determines far more than
just how they think about their life. It affects their attitude and the way they share
their view of things with others. In my opinion, perspective is one of the most
important areas in a teacher s life because they share their perspective with their
students. As teachers, there are many outside factors that we have no control over.
Many factors have the ability to change throughout a school year, for example;
classroom sizes,

Niccolo Machiavelli The Prince Analysis
Lena Nemer
Mrs. Langstaff
AP U.S. Government and Politics
The Prince
In our world, most societies support governments that work in a righteous way, but
how can acting righteously be effective in a chaotic world full of crime and war?
In the novel The Prince by Niccolo Machiavelli, who defines a dystopian society as
an illusion of a perfect government which is maintained through corporate,
bureaucratic, and totalitarian control. This illusion, however, fades once one
recognizes how these actions beneficially impact a society by uniting and
protecting the people and country. Throughout the novel, Machiavelli preaches
about various political principles and new ways to acquire and maintain political
power. Niccolo also suggests many strategies and new classifications that a good
prince should follow in order to maintain a successful reign. The ideal prince must
be a fierce individual who must be capable of executing harsh, yet fair decisions
among the people in order to ensure effective rule. Those who follow the guidance
of Niccolo in the novel are not evil because in order to be a good and powerful
leader one is required to show strong leadership, maintain domination for the benefit
of citizens, and at times be feared rather than be loved.
Machiavelli thoroughly explains that rulers ought to lead their people how the
world is in stead of how the world should be. A good leader is not concerned
necessarily about what is right or wrong but about what is most practical and
effective no matter the cost. Cesare Borgia was reputed cruel, yet his cruelty restored
Romagna, united it, and brought it to order and obedience (Machiavelli, 43).
Although Cesare was thought of as cruel to certain people in Florence, yet was able to
carry out the vision and bring order back into the city. Cesare knew that the only
way to restore the city of Florence was to put up a guard against the abuse of this
quality of mercy. In order to govern a nation, an honorable leader must govern
firmly though will be hated by many. A strong leader must risk the chance of being
thought of as cruel in the eyes of the people in order to keep his subjects united and
obedient. Being a good ruler comes with certain
The Hero Of Jesus Christ
It is common for people to have a hero they admire and strive to be like. Often these
heroes are people such as athletes, celebrities, world leaders, and family members.
These ordinary people become heroes because of desirable attributes they exhibit.
These characteristics are ones that people can relate to, characteristics that give birth
to a desire to elevate oneself to be a heroto others. Such is my hero. My hero was
born long ago to two devoted parents that loved him dearly. Life was not easy for
him or his family; nevertheless, he grew up and became strong. Even though he
was the son of a lowly carpenter, he learned of his divine calling and rose to the
challenge that came with the call. The challenges that afflicted him in his life molded
him into the hero I see him to be. He is JesusChrist, a man with amazing attributes
and my hero. Christ had many great and marvelous attributes. He lived his entire
life by these attributes and encouraged others to develop these same values. He
magnified a way for others to find happiness and meaning. These attributes are the
reason Jesus Christ is my hero. One of Christ s greatest attributes is love. He loved
everyone. He loved the poor, the wealthy, the young, and the old. Through his
example, people around him felt more inclined to love. When an individual is filled
with love, they develop a strong desire to serve others. People sacrifice time and
resources to serve others less fortunate then themselves without thinking
Summary Of Kenneth Slessor s North Country
Through the immersion of one in a variety of physical environments, the
manipulation of genre, form and perspective presents a polysemic representation of a
diverse range of landscapes, in turn allowing responders to develop complex
understandings into the human psyche. Specifically, through the interwoven
utilization of complex allusions and personalized outlooks Alain De Bottons The Art
Of Travel shapes humanities greater knowledge of traveling s impact on the human
behavior and perception. Likewise, this notion is extended amongst Kenneth Slessor
s minimalistic, poetic piece North Country in which the composer highlights man s
dichotomous relationship with the physical world, and how ongoing, differentiated
experiences cultivate interpersonal growth and develop individualized standpoints
towards the wider globe. Consequently, both texts elicit portrayals of innumerable
landscapes, which foreground the intricacies of civilization through the construction
of a piece that reveals the subjectivity of our human mentalities today.
Recollecting empowers the individual to delve deeper into meaningful encounters
that assist in developing identity whether it be from a reminisced, imaginative or
realistic. Illustrating this analogy is Botton s AOT through its alteration of the basic
novel structure to fully capture landscapes as the product of personal perception, all
whilst challenging the reader to reconsider the true sense of these places and their
everlasting impact on
The Deterioration Of The Aristotelian Worldview
The deterioration of the Aristotelian worldview began around the time of the
Reformation of the Catholic Church. The reformation of the Catholic Church up until
this time had been in control of the teachings and discoveries at that time until Martin
Luther questioned the Church and its teachings. Luther had brought to people s
attention how controlling the Church was over what was being taught and the people
began to realize that there could be more out in the world to discover. People began
to become curious and wanted to read the Bible and think for themselves. Along with
the Reformation, the pushing of the Muslims from the East created an opportunity of
scientific discoveries to occur. The Muslims had caused the people to move and take
ancient books with them that contained different philosophical discoveries from
scientist such as Hippocrates, Galen, Euclid, etc. Scientist were amazed at the
discoveries and beliefs that were founded and could not believe that they had not
known about them. Reading about their discoveries and beliefs caused scientist to
build off of what the early philosophers had founded. Scientists that played important
roles in the deterioration of the Aristotelian worldview was Nicolas Copernicus,
Johannes Kepler, and Galileo. These men put forth information that early men of
astronomyand philosophy could not imagine and the advancement in technology was
to thank for that.
Nicolas Copernicus realized that the Ptolemaic system did an awful job of
Auto Racing Drivers Persuasive Essay
1. The occupation in question is that of a Race Car driver, or auto racing driver, or
motorist, or a whole host of unnecessary names made by those who fly the EU flag.
My interest in the field stems from, well I don t exactly know. Though nothing is
more satisfying than watching a good race or being part of one yourself, maybe
that helps clear up the source of my interest. So naturally racing is what I had to
make this career research paper about, so without further ado let s get into it. To
those unaware, racing demands much more than driving fast to win. As far as
responsibilities go there are quite a few, to say the least. 2. They include getting

There s definitely a big risk, but it comes with an equally as big pay and
recognition. 10. First, the fame, everyone (in America) has surely heard of Jeff
Gordon or Dale Earnhardt Jr. these are people who are the best of the best in their
sport and have the skills to prove it, (Shmoop.com). Then, internationally names
like Nico Rosberg or Ken Block can be appreciated. 13. Secondly, the fortune, well
as with any field, racing salaries are vastly different. Beginners might bring home
150 to 300 thousand, but the best get paid up to 30 million a year,
(Allaboutcareers.com). 12. Third, the family, this can vary from person to person.
For example, your wife/husband needs to understand the risk involved and, be
willing to work with the ever changing schedules. Though if you could get past those
two things, racing would be a really entertaining career for your spouse to

  • 2. The Island by Athol Fugard The Island (1973) Athol Fugard A Quick Rundown of The Island The Island is a Fugard play that resorts to the Classics to protest Apartheid. It takes place in four scenes, opening with a lengthy mimed sequence in which John and Winston, two cell mates in prison on Robben Island, carry out one of the totally pointless and exhausting tasks designed by warders to break the spirit of political prisoners. Winston has been sentenced to prison for life because he burned his passbook in front of a police station. John has been imprisoned for belonging to a banned organization. The story traces the relationship of these two men. Winston is the active rebel, and John, the intellectual, is trying to persuade him to play ... Exiled parties and people who were released from the problem tried to let me people know what was happening, but difficult to create literature and art: segregational theatres and restaurants. Act of creating The Island is an act of defiance in itself: different people of different races coming together, monument to defiance of political tyranny, extremely difficult пѓ strategy: no written script until after internationally famous, no evidence, no arrests! 3. The Playwright: Athol Fugard Grew up in Port Elizabeth (deeply symbolic place for him.) Lower middle class environment пѓ poor whites of 1930s vs. political conservatives (generalization!) Fugard epitomizes fact that we can t generalize like this because for five decades, he voiced against racial oppression. Port Elizabeth represents what it s like to be poor and white in South Africa. Scholarship to UCT but never finished his degree, went traveling instead, but always kept in mind his existential philosophy. (Existentialism: We as humans have some control over our own destinies. We may not be able to choose our situations (like where and when and what colour we are born) but we can choose how we live our lives and what we do with them. For instance, when Winston has to face the fact that John is leaving in 3 months and he is only leaving in 10 years,

Marginal Cost Revenue A way to determine the quantity of profit maximization is to conclude where marginal revenue equals marginal costs. Rather than computing the profit for all levels of sales; total revenue and total variable costs are considered. Marginal revenues and marginal costs are considered in a similar way like marginal profit, thus defining the amount of change for all sales levels (Huter, 2012, p.2). Pricing Non Pricing Strategies CVS needs to think through numerous elements impacting its business. Pricing strategies, rivals and their current products, consumer demands and suppliers are examples of these elements. For pricing strategies, CVS should consider closeouts, discounts, product bundle pricing, penetration pricing, geographical pricing, and membership or trade pricing. For non pricing strategies, options comprise: enhanced service quality, longer opening hours, advertising, and extended warranties (Kimmons, n.d.). By pricing similar products in a different way they must focus on regional demographics because geographic pricing enables the maximization of profit. For promoting unique or new products at provisional price drops, penetration pricing is the most effective. Finally, bundle pricing and closeouts can be engaged when several

Male Toucan Vs Northern Harriers There are two different types of survival needs in organisms for example, why can t toucan lives in arctic while hawk can live almost everywhere?Generalist are most often found in a place where temperature is moving from hot to cold, and variety of food sources are available for organisms living there. Animals found in these place are called broad niches, which are able to adapt to almost any environment. Opposite of generalist would be specialist, which means temperature stays the same and same kind of food sources available, this kind of environment are more suitable for narrow niches. Male toucan will stay away from the nest and makes sure no predators come near the nest, if nest is being threatened there is going to be violence between two birds. However Northern harriers can relate to male Toucan after their mating period as well, Northern harriers must bring food for the family and need to be prepared to take in extra effort for the family. Both birds don t let the newborns isolate from the parent and be very careful around them, they have to be aware of their life as a parents. Since newborn had come to life, there is no way that the offspring can adapt to different niche which parents are unable to. Both birds sexual reproduces, sexual reproduction requires both parent and combine two different genes to create a offspring. If both parent are specialists there is no chances that the offspring can be generalist. The females birds deliver about 3 5 eggs each year after mating with the male bird. There is least difference in food of these two examples, both of them eats almost same thing such as small mammals and lizards except for fruits. Northern harriers are not able to locate fruits in grassland In summary Northern harrier versus the Toucans are not a huge difference because they are both the birds but they are different kinds, the only one difference that matter between these two common birds are generalist versus and other are specialist. However they both can relate by same reproductive system and same responsibilities of male s concerns about the family. Toucans are specialist while Northern harriers are generalist, each of these birds have somehow difference in diet and mainly different habitats,

  • 6. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Living With Family Living alone or living with family has its advantages and disadvantages which include the amount of responsibilities, freedom and financial stability a person has.The majority of young adults for years dream about the day they finally get to move out of their parents home and start living independently. Suddenly when it s time to move out and live on their own it becomes overwhelming. Most teenagers think they are ready to take on the responsibilityof living independently but when reality sets in, they realize that providing for themselves is surprisingly more difficult than living with their family. When living with parents a good portion of responsibility a young adult is given are tasks to get them prepared for early adulthood. This means sharing responsibilities that contribute to the house such as chores. For example, today they re responsible for washing the dishes, the next day cleaning the living room and the bathroom. A disadvantage of living with parents would be the amount of freedom that is given. For example, in most households, there is a set curfew time to be home by, and the consequences of arriving late past the curfew time would be getting grounded, no internet for two days, or getting that favorite play system taken away. There is no talking on the phone past certain hours, not being allowed to go to that concert that s been on their to do list because mom and dad would rather have them stay home. Although their freedom is limited, for the most part,
  • 7. Textual Analysis Maestro The chapter 1968 contributes to a reading of Maestro focusing on the both the role music plays in the Paul s development and the very nature of music itself. In this chapter, Paul undergoes emotional and physical maturation, and his appreciation and comprehension of music is strongly tied with this change. It in this chapter that he meets Rosie, his first love and future wife. Rosie represents Paul s first experience of the adult world. She acts as a kind of conduit for his maturation. When teaching her, he employs Keller s idiosyncratic techniques, which he had previously dismissed as juvenile and worthless: Looser , I would counsel, repeating the clever phrases I had learned from Keller. This demonstrates a change in Paul s attitude toward music, a transition from arrogance to maturity.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After losing his virginity, Paul gains a greater understanding of emotion: Each day my eyes seemed to be opened just a little wider and more of that sun drenched town of lush gardens, scents, and sexuality seem to cram itself in. Rich, sensual imagery is used to evoke a vibrant image of the scene. Sexuality is personified and described as a force acting upon Paul, changing him. Paul relates these new emotions to music: I was transported again to that same sensual, aching zone. The music seemed nearer to lovemaking than to music ... and now I knew about lovemaking. Again, sensual language is used to convey a strong sense of feeling. Following this, Paul seeks music full of emotion and power, from Romantic composers Liszt and Rachmaninoff, as an output for these feelings, ignoring Keller s regiment of rigid Classical music. In this instance, music plays a key role in Paul s emotional
  • 8. Adderall Case Study The perspective I would use, as the clinician, for Felix s condition, is cognitive behavioral therapyп»ї. I would use CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) because it s a short term, goal oriented psychotherapy treatment that takes a hands on, practical approach to problem solving. The goal of CBT is to change patterns of thinking or behavior that are behind people s difficulties, and so change the way they feel. This would seem like the ideal solution to help Felix battle his troubles with focusing in school and the appearance of irritability and sadness or so depression. If, his parents chose the route of medication, it would be preferred that Felix takes Adderall. • 9. Carine Mccandless The Wild Analysis Essay I was confident I could provide enough indirect clues for readers to understand that, to no small degree, Chris s seemingly inexplicable behavior during the final years of his life was in fact explained by the volatile dynamics of the McCandless family while he was growing up (Krakauer: The Wild Truth 9).Many readers may view Chris, or Alex, as an individual who deems reproachable in terms of his drive to endure the wild, and live solely off of the land. However, they are unaware of the prohibitive memoir Chris retains in relation to his family. Krakauer strives to accomplish an indirect insinuation to the reader that Chris upheld a non healthy relationship with his first hand relatives, and that his irrational behavior was acted upon this occurrence. This coherently leads to Krakauer s indirect characterization of Christopher as that of enigmatic and unsubstantiated in terms of mental competence. In accumulation, it illustrates that other individuals, such as Krakauer or his readers, renowned that the assertiveness in which he alleged in was not so representative of a ... Faith is a predominant occurrence in Carine s livelihood, and as she rests her body down onto the floor below the cross in her church, and her tears descend into the carpet, the situation illustrates that Carine is upset at her lord as she heeded her God to protect her from harm. Although the text does not directly show the situation, it becomes evident that she impulsively questions her faith as she begins to outburst seemingly unheeded and disregarded questions of

  • 11. Brazil Essay After the slavery abolition in 1888 and throughout the 20th century, Africa figured relatively low in Brazil s foreign policy agenda, which have mostly focused in the relations with the global powers such as the United States and European countries. This configuration started to change significantly in the early 2000s, when the improved macroeconomic situation of Brazilcoincided with Africas economic revival. The turning point was, with no doubt, under former President Lula s mandate (2003 2010). According to a recent joint World Bank and IPEA document, the historical and cultural ties between Brazil and the African continent differentiate the country from the other members of the BRICs (Brazil, Russia, India and China). The economic success of Brazil, its activities in the international arena and its successful national social policies would be lessons for African countries (IPEA World Bank, 2011). Additionally to historical and cultural ties, other affinities in agro ecology and epidemiology (and, in some cases, language) are often evoked as an advantage of the Brazilian knowledge transfer to Africa, while the horizontal character of the partnership is presented as an alternative to the vertical North South interaction (Patriota Pierri, 2013). SECTION C: Brazil s investment and financing in Africa: interests Trade and investments In the relations between Brazil and Africa, it is not only in development cooperation that a significant increase started to be seen in the last decade. Making a comparison, at the beginning of Lula s mandate in 2003, trade between the country and the continent was $5 billion, while by 2009 it had surpassed $29 billion (LAHT, 2010). • 14. Low Self Esteem What is self esteem? Self esteem is how we perceive ourselves. How we evaluate our self worth affects nearly every aspect of our lives. Low self esteem can negatively affect our outlook on life and ourselves. Low self esteem can also cause major psychological problems like anxiety and depression and may also cause mental health issues. In this assignment, I will be summing up the information I gathered to support the argument that low self esteemis a major cause of psychological problems. William James wrote what is considered the most important book in the history of modern day psychology. The Principles of Psychology. In one of James chapters he explained that self esteem was recognized from the idea, identity. In discussing the me self, James wrote of three different but connected parts of self: the material self (all those parts of material existence in which we feel a strong sense of ownership, our bodies, our families, the things we own), the social self (our felt social relations), and our spiritual self (our feelings of our own (judging things based on opinions and preferences instead of facts). These aspects were then treated in terms of connected or related feelings of self worth and self looking actions. James made three major additions to self explanation. He voiced that the way of thinking of social selves ( a man has as many social selves because others have an image of him as well) and characterized confidence as far as the proportion of victories to

By Mantegbosh Letyibelu Irving, Poe, and Hawthorne were arguably some of the most popular writers of the 19th century (Dincer 223; Lauter 2505). All three of them are known for their short essays and their advocacy to make writing a full fledged and legitimate profession. Their writings show that they were hugely influenced by the Romantic Movement (romanticism); a movement in art, literature, music, philosophy, politics and culture towards focusing on the individual, the subjective, and the spontaneous (Dincer 218). Romanticist writing encouraged contemplation and self awareness, direct contact with nature, and a focus on and an exploration of inner feelings (Dincer 223). Yet, they had distinct writing style, focus, and theme. While Irving was more of a light romantic writer, a writing style characterized by optimism, Poe and Hawthorne are widely considered dark romantic Authors whose writings were characterized by pessimism that sees the world as full of dark, evil, suffering, horror, and mystery. While Irving s writing focused more on satire and humor, Poe Hawthorne s writing was more about evil, crime, sin, and mystery. Moreover, Irving seem to be nostalgic aristocrat with huge interest in the landscape, folklore, and the past (2506), whereas Poe and Hawthorne had a contrary view of the past (Liptak). The Cause And Main Causes Of The American Revolution The origins of the American Revolution came from both long term and immediate causes between the thirteen colonies in North America and Great Britain. Factors that played a critical role in the colonists desire for freedom ranged from political, intellectual, geographical, religious to economic. These casues would set the context for this eighteenth century American crisis, and also shape the foundation of the United Statesof America. No single event was the main cause for the revolution, but instead a long, gradual series of events and lists of grievances that led to this war. It essentially began from the disagreement over the way the British monarch would treat the colonies that suited Parliament versus the way the colonies felt they should be treated, as their very own british subjects. However, to understand what led to this great rebellion, it is important to see how the mindset of each colonist was developed; these colonies went through a period known as the Enlightenment during the 18th century. Also known as the Age of Reason, it was a time where thinkers, philosophers, and colonists began to question the politics of government, the role of the church, and human society. Revolutionary leaders were influenced by the major writings of the Enlightenment, including those of John Locke and Benjamin Franklin, that gleaned the concepts of the social contract, limited government, and the consent of the governed. Also we see that he remembers when he was a seven year old boy and his father also removed a splinter from his hands. Beethoven s talent was noticed at a young age and he soon became a pioneer in the world of music for breaking the traditional bounds of style and form. Over the course of his life, Beethoven produced nine symphonies, seven concertos, and a total of forty two sonatas. Although these numbers are few when compared to other composers such as Joseph Haydn, his work was very substantial. Ludwig van Beethovens compositions were greatly influenced by the changes in the world around him. His ability to stray away from the practices that restrained other composers inspired musicians around him and changed the practices of music forever. Beethoven lived during both the Classical and Romantic era. He is widely considered a pivotal figure in the passage from the Classical era to the Romantic. Blackberry Picking follows the journey of pickers who, upon finding the first sweet fruit, become enraptured in their greed even as signs point to the inevitable rotting of all they ve found. Through Blackberry Picking, Seamus Heaney criticizes humankind s tendency to become overwhelmed with desire even though it always results in disappointment. The narrator is immediately consumed by his first taste of desire. Its sweet flesh leaves stains upon the tongue and lust for picking (5,7). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Though the poem focuses heavily on the speaker s attempts to satisfy his desire, no greater purpose appears to lie at the end of his quest. The plate of eyes that burned suggests that the speaker feels like he s being watched, as if someone is standing and judging him for his thirst. The word burned implies that the feeling of being observed left a painful impression on him. The pickers leave the field with hands peppered with thorn pricks, our palms sticky as Bluebeard s (16). The choice of a comparison to Bluebeard, the violent murderer from a fairytale, suggests that the speakers links his desire with a violent, destructive act, further illustrating the way lust and desire is tangled up with guilt. Those who desire as the pickers do are haunted and tormented by the fruitlessness of their efforts. Furthermore, the poem is structured such that, for the most part, the ends of the lines do not quite rhyme. The almost rhymes throughout the poem mirror the disappoint the speakers feels; lines that come close to rhyming are just short of satisfying to read, similar to how the pickers quest does not quite fulfill their desire. By interweaving pain and disappointment with the blackberry picking process, the author suggests that with excess greed and desire comes pain and suffering. The pickers know, at least subconsciously, that their trek through the fields has neither an end goal nor a

The organization was modeled after the Texas Railroad Commission and formed at the Baghdad Conference in 1960 by Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Venezuela . The founding five counties were later joined by Qatar, Indonesia, Libya, the United Arab Emirates, Algeria, and Nigeria . At the time of its creation most industrial countries were immensely dependent on the oil imported from the region of the world represented by the OPEC members. Nonetheless, the member countries had yet to devise a workable system for responding to serious disruptions in oil supply before OPEC. OPEC s purpose was to serve as a sort of cartel. It would co ordinate and unify petroleumpolicies among Member Countries, in order to secure fair and stable prices for petroleum producers; an efficient, economic and regular supply of petroleum to consuming nations; and a fair return on capital to those investing in the industry. During the 1960s, OPEC was only modestly successful in influencing oil prices, which remained relatively stable. Feeding a city comes with a lot of issues, especially feeding the Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) at a population of 414,000 (Statistics Canada, 2015). Although food is required to sustain humans, it has not always been produced sustainably in Halifax. Foodsustainabilityis not only concerned with the food people consume, but rather looks at the whole system, interconnecting social, economic, and environmental components. In Halifax, barriers to food sustainability include greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, food waste, food corporations, and food insecurity. Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions One of the main negative externalities of the food system in HRM is the vast amount of greenhouse gas emissions produced. Looking at this in terms of an ecological footprint, a measurement of resource consumption and waste production, Nova Scotians use approximately 8 hectares each. This is more than four times the sustainable global amount of 1.8 hectares per person. Furthermore, Nova Scotians food usage accounts for about one third of the total footprint (Lowe, 2007). Hence, there are definitely driving factors within the HRM food system that are increasing the ecological footprint. Transporting food to accessible locations is a large problem in Halifax. Out of approximately 4,000 farms in Nova Scotia, less than 200 are based in HRM. However, due to population dynamics, Halifax and Dartmouth

The novel takes a big stand against the men driven society of the 50s, and is considered one of the greatest feminist novels. It explores Esther s status as an independent woman, as she focuses on her career and overcoming her illness. The basic element of this case was that the consequences of the worker s act were unforeseeable by any reasonable person and therefore the question that arose was about whether suitable justice was provided in holding him responsible for the consequences of the act. At that point, under the law, it was held that, irrespective of whether the act was foreseeable or not, he was still liable as the burning down of the ship was a direct consequence of his action. • 45. My Philosophy Of Teaching Philosophy Teaching Philosophy My philosophy of education is founded on the core principle that all children should have equal access to a quality education that will prepare them for higher education and to be contributing members of society. Schools were founded on the primary principle of teaching values to students as well as educating them academically. While values have been removed from the curriculum, I still believe much of what we do as teachers is instilling values in our students. As educators, while there are many elements we do not have control over we can control our perspective, belief in our students abilities, rapport with our students, classroom management, collaboration and our role in the community. Perspective I began to understand the impact of perspective when reading Linda Dillow s book on contentment. Dillow shared how her experience as a missionary taught her our thought life not our friends, husband, children, job or anything else determines our contentment (Dillow, 1998, p. 32). A person s perspective determines far more than just how they think about their life. It affects their attitude and the way they share their view of things with others. In my opinion, perspective is one of the most important areas in a teacher s life because they share their perspective with their students. As teachers, there are many outside factors that we have no control over. Many factors have the ability to change throughout a school year, for example; classroom sizes,

Niccolo Machiavelli The Prince Analysis Lena Nemer Mrs. Langstaff AP U.S. Government and Politics The Prince In our world, most societies support governments that work in a righteous way, but how can acting righteously be effective in a chaotic world full of crime and war? In the novel The Prince by Niccolo Machiavelli, who defines a dystopian society as an illusion of a perfect government which is maintained through corporate, bureaucratic, and totalitarian control. This illusion, however, fades once one recognizes how these actions beneficially impact a society by uniting and protecting the people and country. Throughout the novel, Machiavelli preaches about various political principles and new ways to acquire and maintain political power. Niccolo also suggests many strategies and new classifications that a good prince should follow in order to maintain a successful reign. The ideal prince must be a fierce individual who must be capable of executing harsh, yet fair decisions among the people in order to ensure effective rule. Those who follow the guidance of Niccolo in the novel are not evil because in order to be a good and powerful leader one is required to show strong leadership, maintain domination for the benefit of citizens, and at times be feared rather than be loved. Machiavelli thoroughly explains that rulers ought to lead their people how the world is in stead of how the world should be. A good leader is not concerned necessarily about what is right or wrong but about what is most practical and effective no matter the cost. Cesare Borgia was reputed cruel, yet his cruelty restored Romagna, united it, and brought it to order and obedience (Machiavelli, 43). Although Cesare was thought of as cruel to certain people in Florence, yet was able to carry out the vision and bring order back into the city. Cesare knew that the only way to restore the city of Florence was to put up a guard against the abuse of this quality of mercy. In order to govern a nation, an honorable leader must govern firmly though will be hated by many. A strong leader must risk the chance of being thought of as cruel in the eyes of the people in order to keep his subjects united and obedient. Being a good ruler comes with certain
  • 48. The Hero Of Jesus Christ It is common for people to have a hero they admire and strive to be like. Often these heroes are people such as athletes, celebrities, world leaders, and family members. These ordinary people become heroes because of desirable attributes they exhibit. These characteristics are ones that people can relate to, characteristics that give birth to a desire to elevate oneself to be a heroto others. Such is my hero. My hero was born long ago to two devoted parents that loved him dearly. Life was not easy for him or his family; nevertheless, he grew up and became strong. Even though he was the son of a lowly carpenter, he learned of his divine calling and rose to the challenge that came with the call. The challenges that afflicted him in his life molded him into the hero I see him to be. He is JesusChrist, a man with amazing attributes and my hero. Christ had many great and marvelous attributes. He lived his entire life by these attributes and encouraged others to develop these same values. He magnified a way for others to find happiness and meaning. These attributes are the reason Jesus Christ is my hero. One of Christ s greatest attributes is love. He loved everyone. He loved the poor, the wealthy, the young, and the old. Through his example, people around him felt more inclined to love. When an individual is filled with love, they develop a strong desire to serve others. People sacrifice time and resources to serve others less fortunate then themselves without thinking

Likewise, this notion is extended amongst Kenneth Slessor s minimalistic, poetic piece North Country in which the composer highlights man s dichotomous relationship with the physical world, and how ongoing, differentiated experiences cultivate interpersonal growth and develop individualized standpoints towards the wider globe. Consequently, both texts elicit portrayals of innumerable landscapes, which foreground the intricacies of civilization through the construction of a piece that reveals the subjectivity of our human mentalities today.
