Introduction to Online Learning
Online courses differ from classroom courses in having a more flexible schedule, student-centered learning approach, emphasis on textbook-driven learning over lectures, and greater reliance on written communication and technology. To succeed, online students must be flexible, self-motivated, and self-directed; willing to do extensive reading and writing; and comfortable with technology. They typically spend 6-8 hours per week reading, completing assessments, participating in discussions, and working on papers and presentations. Grading follows the same scale as classroom courses, with assignments listed in the syllabus or clearly marked. Students are encouraged to start major assignments early, treat their online coursework like scheduled meetings, and seek help promptly if needed.

- Francesco Group has been using Moodle to create a blended learning environment for their hairdressing apprentices, combining classroom and online learning. They have developed courses that mirror the units taught in the classroom and allow learners to work at their own pace. Learners are rewarded with badges for completing elements and courses. Moodle allows for collaboration, instant feedback and 24/7 access to expand learners' skills and knowledge. Francesco Group plans to continue expanding their use of Moodle to include additional courses and more interactive content.

Who are the mooc educators and what are their job tasks? A multi case study

Interviews were conducted with 28 educators from 7 MOOCs across various subject areas. Educators included professors, learning designers, PhD students, and others. Their roles varied and included course design, content creation, video production, facilitation, and more. Educators often took on new roles and learned tasks through practice or collaboration as training was limited. Challenges included a lack of expertise in some required tasks and working outside of regular hours for facilitation. Support for educators could include encouraging collaboration, expertise sharing, and short trainings on topics such as copyright, video skills, and facilitation.

The Agony and the Ecstasy: Converting Traditional ILT to the Virtual Classroom
In a world of reduced funding and increasing velocity, organizations are delivering more training online than ever. Successfully converting traditional ILT to Virtual Instructor-Led Training (V-ILT) needs more than just awareness of virtual classrooms. It demands: understanding of learning models and adult learning principals; resourceful delivery models; and a fluency in virtual instructional design. Effective V-ILT requires a different toolset which are not always 1:1 matches to familiar ILT tools. Creative approaches to familiar concepts provide stability for participants, reducing cognitive load for better learning. This presentation reviews best practices and hard-won design tips for converting ILT to V-ILT.
