Essay on Writing Techniques in Poe s The Raven
Writing Techniques in Poe s The Raven
Edgar Allan Poe uses several writing techniques to create a single concentrated effect of unending
despair in his classic poem, The Raven. The most noticeable technique is the use of repetition. Just as
repeated exposure to cold raindrops can chill one to the bone, repeated exposure to words of
hopelessness and gloom creates a chilling effect. Poe saturates the reader with desperate futility by
repetitive use of the words nothing more and nevermore. These two phrases, used in refrain to end
seventeen of the poem s eighteen stanzas, drench the reader with melancholy. Poe also uses repetition
to spark the reader s curiosity. He refers to the sound of rapping or tapping eight times in the ... Show

This rare radiance stands in stark contrast to the grim, ungainly, ghastly, gaunt, and ominous raven
who now never leaves his chamber (71). Lenore is referred to as a sainted maiden (94), whereas the
raven is referred to as a prophet! and a thing of evil! (85, 91). The radiance of Lenore is contrasted
with the speaker s soul, which he describes as being under a shadow (107). These contrasts serve to
draw attention to the most significant contrast described in the poem: an intelligent, well read, loving
man interprets a bird seeking shelter on a cold night as an emblem of never ending anguish and
succumbs to depression and madness.
Poe masterfully chooses his words to create an effect. He introduces the idea that the tapping is caused
by something at his window lattice (33) followed by Let me see, then, what thereat is (34). His choice
of the word thereat is interesting in that it suggests the word threat . The sharp t sound at the end of
thereat conjures the sound of pecking on glass. The experience of hearing what the speaker hears
serves to increase the bond the reader feels with the speaker.
Poe s masterful alliteration likewise creates mood as exhibited in the phrase, And the silken sad
uncertain (13). These words are not commonly used together. The repetitive s sound forces the reader
to hesitate when reading the line, leading the reader to identify with the uncertainty that the speaker is
experiencing. In a similar way, the

Rock And Roll Is Important Throughout The History
Rock and roll is so important throughout the history, which always contributes to the story of music,
the public, and the society. It is an indispensable part of music, in which countless famous artists and
bands shine repeatedly. The trace of rock and roll is easily found everywhere in different types of
music, like hip pop. It has allowed artists to speak on political issues and influence government. For
normal people, sometimes rock and roll is like a window, through which people can notice inequality,
darkness but also hope. It becomes everyone s emotions destination and also is able to instigate
campaigns by utilizing their emotions. Rock and roll is woven into the natural fabric of lifestyle. It is
common to find that someone s favorite music is rock and roll. As for fashion, rock and roll elements
are supposed to appear in lots of clothing, decorations, and bags. As a result, I find it necessary and
interesting to meditate about rock and roll itself and its history. During the development of rock and
roll, from its brith to explosion and be mainstream, it has always been influenced by social and culture
changes. Social and culture context plays the key role in the development and evolution of it. To some
extent, the context controls the death of not only rock and roll but also other genres. However, social
and culture changes also promote the division and brith of new types. In turn, each kind of rock and
roll reflects those changes during the last sixty

Modern Day Attacks Against Firewalls and Vpns
Modern Day Attacks Against Firewalls and Virtual Private Networks
Electronic technology is growing at a rapid rate; more devices are made mobile and wireless, but with
those improvement and developments come flaws and malicious opportunities. Cyber attacks are on
the rise and no system or device is immune. Many organizations employ multiple layers of firewalls
but that doesn t completely eliminate the threat. Attacks against firewalls and virtual private networks
or VPNs are constantly being exploited with new methods everyday, but they are yet another obstacle
that a cyber criminal must overcome. First let s discuss what a firewall is and what a firewall is
capable of doing. Firewall applications are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unfortunately, many firewalls come with so many rules or policies that they can counteract the
security desired and create loopholes for network threats or actually block traffic that is desired or
requested by the user. These issues make it really important to understand how all rules and policies in
the firewall work and how to apply them. Another tool often used for secure reasons and also as a
reliable method to share information remotely is called a Virtual Private Network or VPN. Henry
describes A VPN as a group of computers (or discrete networks) networked together over a public
network namely, the internet (para 3, 2012). Basically, it s a private network created to allow remote
access through a public network. Most often you will see that employees on airplanes or in a public
place that will require and utilize these VPNs to access their business resources for all kinds of
information, but some people just use it as a means to use their network without physically
compromising the actual systems. A good VPN can provide many functions such as access anywhere
worldwide without dedicated lines, data security, remote access to business resources and better
employee production. For these VPNs to perform these functions properly they are required to provide
reliability by ensuring that the network does not break down before reaching its max capacity,
scalability to ensure the ability to expand as business grows, and of

Invest In Driverless Cars
Driverless cars have long been in debate since Google made its announcement for an autonomous car.
Although driverless cars are feared because they may cause more accidents, the first autonomous car
accident was at the fault of a human. The advancements that driverless cars offer to modern
technology and its potential market deems itself more beneficial than not. Therefore, automobile
manufacturing companies should invest in driverless cars.
Autonomous cars would be labeled as a disruptive innovation since its implementation could lead to a
lower demand for normal cars. This never before seen technology may very well be the new hit thing
thus also making it a radical innovation. A similar effect can be seen through the creation of
smartphones. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Companies often face cultural lock in, or essentially the fear of change. One reason that Kodak has
failed had been that it failed to commercialize its film technology due to its inability to adapt to the
growing technology. However, the manufacturer could bring in additional expertise to gain more
insight on the profitability of the technology and train employees of its uses. Additionally, the
manufacturer could assess the demand for driverless cars by releasing a few self driving cars as a test
run. If the run is deemed profitable the company could incrementally increase funding towards the
technology. The automobile manufacturer also would not fall too far behind in terms of competition.
Many companies that wait for competitors to test run products often fall off the market because they
join the game too late. Consumers also tend to lean towards brands that they know are reliable, rather
than fresh companies. With this method, the company would not lose as much if autonomous car did
not attract as many consumers as anticipated.
Although driverless cars can easily control the automotive industry, its impact ultimately depends on

The Negative Effects Of Technology On Our Generation Of...

What technology is doing to our generation of children
As we all know, technology is changing, evolving and improving every day. Schools are incorporating
technology into learning more and more everyday. Every month there is a new phone, tablet,
television, laptop and even thousands of websites. While these devices come into handy and can be
very helpful, they almost are taking over the world. Almost everyone has a cellular device; many
being androids or iphones. Which surprisingly, the majority of these users are children. The apps they
have on their phones being: Youtube, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, and more. Younger
children have some of those and many games. There are a few questions that come with this use of
technology and children: 1.) How much is enough? 2.) What s acceptable? 3.) What are the effects?
The problem with technology and children is there are some benefits and some disadvantages. They
both weigh out depending on the child and how they use the technology. Children s learning and
habits are very critical to their development and learning skills. Especially at young ages like birth to 6
years old, new pathways in their brain are being produced every day and their frontal lobes are active
and starting to develop , working memory, attachments, emotions, and perception. And the prefrontal
cortex is the last to develop, which explains why children and teenagers have a hard time with
decision making and controlling their impulses. So using technology while children s brains are in
these stages can be beneficial if used the right way, but also have a negative effect if not used the right
way and with limits.
As said before many schools are using technology in their education plans. Most test are taken online,
studying for these test are online and are either homework or classwork assignments for children.
Many children are intrigued and interested by technology and it is an easy way to keep children
interested with all the animations and rewarding things. My sister is in the 2nd grade and they use a
website called Iready and this prepares them for those standardized test and for homework. She
actually enjoys it. Every time they

A Comparison of Helen in the Iliad and the Odyssey
The Iliad and The Odyssey are tales written by Homer centered on the drama of the Trojan War. First
poem deals with the time during the end of the war, while the latter, which occurs roughly ten years
later, explains the disastrous journey of Odysseus fighting his way back home. The character of
women in the Odyssey is to exhibit the many and diverse roles that women play in the lives of men.
These functions vary from characters such as the goddess that help them to the nymphs who trick
them. Women in the Iliad exhibit their significance in the lives of the ancient Greeks because they are
so prominent in a world so dominated with military relations. Helen of Troy was one of these women.
Like so many women Homer speaks of, her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It becomes aware of Homer s distaste for her because indignity is her central characteristic, and this
coming from a writer we have come to associate with honor. It remains unclear whether or not she was
forced by Aphrodite to go with Paris. If she was not, then it appears that lust and desire was her sole
motivation, leaving her with yet another trait which is unappealing to Homer.
Homer tends to lighten Helen s betrayal somewhat in The Odyssey. Homer wants to assure the reader
that although it is in the past, it will not be entirely forgotten. In this epic she becomes a wife to
Menelaus and not in the literal sense because the two have always been married. Instead, she now
openly admits to him and other guests that her actions were unspeakable and unforgivable, almost to
say that what occurred what unlike her and she actually is a good woman. Also, Menelaus agrees with
her, showing no anger. But Homer lets us know that she is as deceitful and conniving as ever, when
Helen admits to openly celebrating the fall of Troy, cheering while the Trojan women wept for their
husbands. She says The rest of the Trojan women shrilled with their grief. Not I: my heart leapt up my
heart had changed now I yearned to sail back home again (Homer). Thus, Helen goes from being
deceitful to adapting disloyalty.
Homer s dislike for Helen becomes apparent, but only with further examination. In The

Dietary Habits Have Been Influenced And Changed Throughout...
Dietary habits have been influenced and changed throughout the years all over the world. Diets impact
one s health drastically, and could affect lives in the long run if not taken seriously. From observation
of those experimenting with different dietary habits, such as the cleanliness of going vegan or cutting
out the carnivorous acts of eating meat by going either vegetarian or piscatorial, they are
malnourishing and depriving themselves of the vitamins and proteins an all around diet such as a
paleo diet can provide. Health and Fitness magazines boasts about how much cleaner one s body can
be if they were to just stop consuming meat and ate only natural vegetables, are neglecting the danger
the person can be in if they began to involve themselves in intense physical activity. Society deserves
to know the true and false myths behind each type of diet such as vegan, vegetarian, paleo, and the
standard western diet. Although, web articles and books claim to have the best diet against all others,
their research and evidence are completely biased. There are tons of people becoming victim to these
publications telling everything they want to hear without telling both sides of each diet. This research
paper will investigate the true benefits and falls of each type of diet so that those brainwashed by
commercial advertising know the truth. In the lifestyle of many people around the world, eating meat
is one of the most unclean and unhealthy things to consume in our society.

Essay about Catch 22, by Joseph Heller
Catch 22 is a story about the different personalities that can be involved in a war. Out of all the
different archetypes, the three I ve chosen are John Yossarian, Albert Tappman, and Milo
Minderbinder, although, not in that order. The first character being analyzed is Yossarian, the
unwilling hero of this book. Although the book labels Yossarian as the main character, he constantly
tries to coward out of going to battle. The second character that will be described is Milo
Minderbinder, the archetypical business person of Catch 22.He runs the camp mess hall and controls
what everyone in the camp is buying, selling, and eating. Milo is constantly trying to control or
manipulate the economies around him, and after he gets a large commission ... Show more content on

It was like seditious and insidious too, and like socialist, suspicious, fascist and Communist. It was an
odious, alien, distasteful name, a name that just did not inspire confidence. It was not at all like such
clean, crisp, honest, American names such as Catchcart, Peckem and Dreedle. (210)
The quote above describes the relationship with Colonel Cathcart, in which Cathcart has a worrying
doubt about Yossarian and his role in the squadron. Yossarian complains to Doc Daneeka about
Colonel Cathcart s dictum regarding the mission count during every visit to the medical tent. Cathcart
s opinion about Yossarian also dawns upon the other men who start to wonder about the man with that
name and who he actually is. One of the main points within the story is when the soldiers question
Yossarian during the death of Lt. Mudd, whom the men continuously call the dead man in Yossarian s
tent (Heller 166). A character that changes Yossarian completely about war is Snowden. After
Snowden s death, Yossarian is given a medal of honor for fighting through that battle, but unlike the
other men, Yossarian shows up in a disorderly fashion. He realizes that he doesn t want to be in a war
like atmosphere anymore and starts to long for his trips throughout Italy with Milo, Orr, Nately, and a
couple of others from the squadron. It is after these trips that Yossarian tries to weasel his way out of
the squadron by feigning sicknesses and pleading for Doc Daneeka to claim him insane. While

Solutions to the Abortion Problem in America
Abortion in America is a huge issue that is causing much turmoil between the communities in
America. Some people feel this way and some people feel another. I am personally for pro choice,
which means I am against abortion unless it is to save a mothers life due to medical problems.
Through research I found that there are many things available that are being done to try and cut the
rate of abortion in America and yet I feel that there is still so much more that can be done. Just to
name a few things that are being done: pray, sidewalk counseling (slightly goes along with prayer) this

They are going out to schools in the west with a program called Back to School telling students the
truth about abortion using graphic real images on abortion. The point of this program is to let the
students know that abortion is a horrible thing to do and help them understand that a child is being
killed in this process. The reason that Operation Rescue is targeting students of this age is because
statistics from the Center for Disease Control show that 60% of all abortions are done on women ages
15 to 24. Operation Rescue is using this opportunity to educate the students especially the young
women before they get pregnant and before they make an appointment for an abortion. There is one
problem with this program and that is, people that have volunteered their time to educate the students
can not actually go into the classrooms and talk to the students. They must stay on the sidewalk
outside of the schools so that they are protected by the first amendment. In that lies the problem,
students of that age do not want to listen to anyone else tell them what they should or should not do so
they most, often will choose to ignore what the person has to say.
I strongly support the Sidewalk Counseling solution. Operation Rescue is another supporter of
Sidewalk Counseling as well as other pro life activist. This is where volunteers that are educated stand
out side of the abortion clinics and hospitals. They feel it is the last chance they have to convince the

Water Reuse As A Water Management Initiative
Water reuse is a crucial concept in our society, water is a scarce resource and it is needed to operate
many things. Water is used in stream and in off stream (Botkin, 2014). Water has been used
extensively for irrigation and for energy production in industrial settings. Water reuse is a water
management initiative that is aimed at conserving our water resources and to allow the continual use
of this precious resource repeatedly. Reused water also known as Reclaimed water is a type of water
has been used by households, Industries ect, and is collected on a treatment site where it is cleared of
various solids, organic and inorganic pollutants, and can be released into receiving streams or be used
again. Water can be recycled after it has been used vigorously to perform various functions i.e water
can be treated and then reused, there are numerous ways in which water can wastewater can be
treated. Wastewater can be treated by Constructed wetlands which are manmade systems that use the
properties of plants, microbial diversity to treat wastewater and to remove pollutants. Manmade

wetlands are monitored by man. There are various manmade wetlands including Free water surface

Farming Is The Nation s Most Important And Noblest...
When you think about farming what comes to mind? Do you think about older gentlemen on tractors,
or young boys helping there father feed the family herd. Maybe you even think about thousands of
acres of corn land in Iowa. Whatever it is I can assure you farming is the nation s most important and
noblest profession. Today farming is seen as a dangerous profession, that s not necessarily the case, it
is true that many people are injured and even killed on farms each year. In 2012 alone three hundred
and seventy four farmers and farm workers lost there lives due to work related injuries, and every day
a staggering one hundred and sixty seven agriculture workers suffer a work related injury (CDC
2012). But why so many? The simple answer is that when it comes to farm safety many people are
ignorant. I myself am guilty of not using the proper safety equipment or even removing a safety shield
to make things run more efficient. I think we have it hardwired in our brains that bad things only
happen to other people, and nothing bad could happen to ourselves, that s not the case. I think that if
farmers will take the time to slow down and be more careful and think things through we will cut
down drastically on injuries. If you think about it many farmers are constantly stressed, they simply
don t have enough hours in the day to accomplish all the tasks at hand so they begin to rush which
causes shortcuts to be made which can potentially lead to injury or death.

A power usually brings about a reduction of other parties options by limiting the moves they can
make, eliminating a possible resolution to the conflict, or restricting their ability to employ
countervailing power (Folger, Poole, Stutman, 1997). Fredrik and Michael are both overly emotionally
and mentally involved in the situation where it prevents them from having the ability to think
objectively. As they become more aggressive and engaged, they tend to fall under the high conflicting
people category and emphasize on the person instead of the conflicting issue itself. This is when
mediator and third party come into play. Third parties enter a conflict relationship in which the
disputants have different expectations, goals, coasts, and rewards, and where they experience
pressures and stresses stemming from an uncertain situation (Bercovitch; 1984). Instead of helping
Fredrik and Michael resolve their conflict, this mediator helps facilitate and soothe the relationship by
generating discussion for the two of them, in the hope of conciliating the conflict. Fredrik and
Michael, in this case, may hire a lawyer or a mutual friend of theirs. It is the triad for a third party to
cause others to act differently (Bercovitch; 1984). A mutual friend of Fredrik and Michael definitely
does the job in serving as a neutral and unbiased position. According to Thompson and Nadler, they
argue that cognitive biases and different levels of perception people have on a conflict often intervene
with whether or not they can come up with a resolution. Negotiators are often unaware of such biases,
instead blaming blocked resolutions processes on party intransigence or self interest (Deutsch; 2000).

Excited to enroll in this class from the very beginning, I found it to be very informative. Not just it
taught me the important terminology used in the world of finances, but also allowed to apply these
concepts into my own financial life.
First of all, thanks to you, Professor Rutter, I have finally devoted time to make a balance sheet, a
document stating my current assets and income, and liabilities at the certain period of time. Now I
have been deliberately reviewing my credit card statements for the previous month, and calculating
how much money I have spent on the food each month, or how much I have spent on shopping at
amazon.com, etc. And even though my consuming behavior was never driven by materialism
completely, this class reminded me to be realistic about my general spendings, and to strictly separate
the needs from the wants. Additionally, I have expanded my skill of setting financial goals and
working towards them. For example, because of Christmas time that is approaching fast, which
usually includes gifts and travels, I suggested and pursued that my family (me, my husband, and our
child) stick to the weekly budget for food, including dining out. And it is been very helpful method to
save some money.
Then, the topic regarding financial institutions, as well as services and fees related to these
institutions, I found to be very empowering: this topic convinced me that doing a research prior
making any commitment to any institution is extremely important. As we

East Asian Politics
The performance of East Asian nations, particularly Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and most recently,
mainland China, is largely attributable to the East Asian Model, which accounts for the following
notable observations: sustained economic growth at high levels for long periods, social, political and
economic diversity, and economic activities that are industrialized, export oriented and socially
beneficial in nature. The East Asian Model is characterized by the following elements: investment and
trade driven growth, active governmental involvement, strong regional cooperation and economic
development driven towards poverty reduction. Strong economic interaction among East Asian
nations via trade and investment activities stands out as a remarkable feature of the East Asian Model.
East Asian nations accommodate a variety of social, political and economic elements that enable them
from pressuring one another in creating and fostering improvements in trade and investment. Given
the foregoing respect, economic integration stands as a favorable result of the East Asian Model that
benefits Southeast Asian nations as well, with the help of regional cooperation via the Association of
Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Such results to the promotion of social, political and economic
improvements that are not just limited at the policy level, but also in material terms as well. Japan, for
instance, has rendered a series of overseas development assistance (ODA) projects to improve

Myth Of Roman Mythology
In many cultures there are flood myths that normally pertain to angered Gods who release their anger
by flooding the world to cleanse whatever caused the anger in the first place. In the Roman culture,
one of the flood myths mentioned states that Jupiter had been angered by the evil that came with
humanity and had wanted to burn the Earth. However, Jupiter had feared by doing so Heaven would
be set ablaze as well and thus, with Neptune s help, flooded the Earth. The hero Deucalion and his
wife Pyrrha had been the only two to survive. Jupiter had recognized their religious lifestyle had let
them live and retracted the flood. Deucalion and Pyrrha had then repopulated the world by throwing
stones behind them. In the Murato culture, there is a myth in which a man had been fishing in a lagoon
of the Pastaza river, a crocodile had swallowed the fisherman s bait and the man killed the crocodile.
The mother of crocodiles had been angered by this and had slashed the water with her tail creating a
flood in the area and drowning everybody except for one man who had climbed up a palm tree. After
the flood had subsided the man climbed down from the tree, cut off a piece of his flesh, planted it in
the soil, and had grown a woman. He had then married the woman and begun to repopulate the world.
The two flood myths mentioned above have a few similarities. The first is that the floods had come
from the anger of powerful beings. The first story mentions that the God Jupiter had been angry

know as NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement) in Dec 17,1992. Mexico is the biggest and
important trading partner to the United States. Till now Mexico has built the largest economy around
the NAFTA. The scope of Mexican U. S relations goes beyond and broad diplomatic and official

Social Media and Hospitality Industry
Social media is increasing on the internet very quickly, with millions of people, who have already
joined it. It is a young phenomenon, impulsed by the desire of meeting and chatting with friends, on a
single platform, such as Facebook® or Twitter®. But, social media means to join groups and pages, to
participate to debates, to give feedbacks or reviews too. In this way, how is it useful for hotels and
hospitality companies? What are the advantages? What are the drawbacks? In the first part, this essay
will analyse the different advantages for hotel marketing, of employing social media. Then, it will
study the drawbacks that social media pages can create against hospitality establishments. What kind

Now, imagine that millions of customers do the same deviousness. I don t think that it will only
represent a little loss of money for the hospitality company. There is another problem with a social
media page which could affect the quality service of a hospitality group: actualization. Yes, if it doesn
t actualize its page, customers would be able to think, that the hospitality company, doesn t pay
attention to them. As a result, it will have a lot of repercussions on the quality provided by the hotel,
such as the argument of the competitor with a social page. And of course, we have to raise another
point about the idea of actualization. Yes, to update the page, someone is required. It means that a firm
must pay a new employee to develop, update and actualize the social media page. In other words, it
means: a loss of money, less benefits. To conclude, hospitality companies, have big interests to create
their own social page. But, they have to anticipate at all costs the drawbacks created by these networks
and pay attention to this terrible vicious circle which can push them to their loss, to their decline. This
young phenomenon, which attracts the most well known companies such as Best Western

Swot Analysis Of Sears
The merger between Sears and Kmart was a very big event in business. At the time both companies
were in the top three in sales along with Walmart. A summarized look of the history and background
of Sears before the merger all started in 1866, When Mr. Richard W. Sears created a watch company
that he named R.W. Sears. This company was in Minneapolis, Minnesota and the watches were only
sold via mail orders. The following year the company decided to settle in Chicago as their first real
location and Mr. Sears hired his first employee named Alvah C. Roebuck, who was a watchmaker.
Then in 1888, the first ever catalog that included Mr. Sears watches and jewelry was established. One
year later Mr. Sears sells this newly started company and starts another company that was named
Sears, Roebuck and Co. A man named Julius Rosenwald, a wealthy clothing line owner, decided to
buy out Mr. Roebucks side of the company. Around the same time ownerships are switching the first
large catalog for the company was published. Then in 1911 Sears then created their first testing
laboratory. By the end of 1913 the company introduces the very popular brand known as Kenmore.
After the launch of this brand the company begins to bring in tons of more revenue and decides to
create a savings and profit sharing funds for Sears employees. But a thing to remember is that Sears
did not actually open a retail store until 1925 that was located a few miles outside of Chicago. In 1931

Interpretation Of Stormy Weather By Lena Horne
The version of Stormy Weather I like best was the cover by the Reigning Sound. In this version, the
song is updated from a classical style to an alternative rock and roll from the 50 s. The Reigning
Sound uses different instrumentation than the covers done by Lena Horne and Royal Crown Revue.
The instrumentation used by Reigning Sound, includes guitars, electric bases, keyboards, drums and
possibly other instruments. Using these types of instruments gives the song more appeal to the young
generations that have a taste for classic rock. Instrumentation is important when giving music a
category, for instance music that uses classical rock instruments sounds more upbeat and fast. The
cover by Lena Horne, does not incorporate the upbeat and fast rhythm s I look for when picking
music. This cover reminded me of songs played in old black and white movies. It made me feel
soothed, instead of energetic. When choosing my music, I want to feel energeic and moved, not
soothed. This cover sounds like it belong in a movie or playing as background noise to a musical,
whereas, the cover by Reigning Sound, has a rhythm that makes you want to move. The cover by
Reigning Sound sounds like it would be playing on the radio in the 50 s and at dances. ... Show more

It s A Chocolate Milk Party
Peyton Lewis Professor Travis Mclanahan PHED 1001 10 June 2016 It s A Chocolate Milk Party Be
sure to drink your milk. Everyone has probably heard this at some point in their lives. This plain,
white drink is one of the most common groceries sold today. About half of all fluid milk that people
consume is plain milk. Regular milk is not always the most satisfying beverage for people to drink.
What if there was something with as much nutritional value that tasted better? Chocolate milk, plain
milk s delicious cousin, is the answer to having a tasty yet healthy beverage. Many people believe
chocolate milk is just a sugary solution that depletes vitamins and minerals we get from white milk,
but these people are sadly mistaken. Chocolate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the most widely used post workout supplements is a protein shake. The typical whey protein
shake contains twenty four grams of protein. While chocolate milk contains only eight grams. In an
eight ounce glass of chocolate milk there are approximately two hundred calories. A protein shake has
120 calories. A single serving of chocolate milk contains five grams of fat, three of which are saturated
fats. The whey protein shake contains one total gram of fat. Both drinks offer many health benefits
but, as a post workout supplement a protein shake would be the best choice. When it comes to
workout drinks, it is best to look for something with lots of glycogen and protein. The common
exercise routine breaks down muscle mass. The muscles in the human body need protein to remain
firm, and glycogen to replenish the cells within them. Supplements should be consumed two hours
following a workout. Dairy products are not recommended as a replacement for post workout
supplements because they can cause vomiting and diarrhea. Therefore, chocolate milk would not be
the best to use after physical activity. Although many people prefer post workout protein shakes, it
depends on the athlete s preference. Exercise is rigorous and causes the body to loose many
electrolytes through sweat. Powerade and Gatorade are the most common electrolyte replenishing
sports drinks. Although these beverages help to repair the body, they are less helpful than chocolate
milk.

While many people believe that health information exchange is a relatively new thing, it has been
around for over four decades. However, in the beginning phases it was nowhere near as complex as it
is now. Sometime in the middle of the 60 s, an early form of a data processing system was formed and
it focuses on clinical data management. This system began to catch on even though they were nowhere
near as sophisticated and or functional as the health records in today s time. In 1972, at the Regenstrief
Institute the first medical record system was created as a modular system to provide service functions
for clinics, laboratory, radiology, and pharmacy ( Structure, Functions, and Activities of a Research

they thought would change the face of health information forever. However, when it was first made it
was not attractive to many doctors due to the high cost but was used mostly by government hospitals
since they had the funds to use them. To this day, the most comprehensive medical records system

But at this moment in his life Heinrich is facing a void. I remember a similar void, when a long and
intimate relationship ended. What I felt then was fear. And at times panic (Griffin 358). The void that
Griffin is talking about is the same void Himmler had and that is feelings that are raging within finally
brought out. The difference is that Griffin exposes her feelings, but Himmler cannot. Griffin also
writes about how these bottled up secrets create barriers against understanding others, like issues of
homosexuality and race. Habit has made it natural not to feel. To ignore the consequences of what one
does in the world becomes ordinary. One is never allowed to see the effects of what one does (Griffin
372). Basically she is saying that it is so much easier to hide behind this barrier than to break through
it and try to understand others of different races or sexual preference. She is also saying that people
get used to not feeling any emotions, once someone ignores feelings it becomes a habit and they do it
over and over again. It is easier to hide from something than to face it head on. Griffin s grandfather is
an anti Semite and looks at crime magazines. She describes his ignorance on page 361. His eyes, no

Political Influences Of Alexander Pope
One of the most influential poets of the 17th and 18th centuries, Alexander Pope significantly
influenced classical poetry through his didactic and satirical works. Born in 1688, Pope began his life
already facing many challenges through different facets of his life. Because his family were practicing
Catholics, the Pope s were forced to move onto the outskirts of town, and Alexander wasn t able to
attend school any longer, which challenged him to teach himself. Rising to the challenge, Pope taught
himself different languages, and wrote his first poem, Ode on Solitude, at the age of twelve (Masters
in English). With his satiric style, Alexander Pope was able to write about his own experiences with
Pott s disease, as well as his well known translations of plays such as Illiad and The Odyssey where he
included some of his own ideas in their writing (notable biographies). Alexander Pope shaped the
writings of his time through the use of satire, drawing on his own life and the situations around him
for inspiration and support.
In 18th century England, poetry was mainly political and satirical. The main philosophical question
was whether the individual or society took precedence as the subject of verse. (slideshare). This time
period was led by Alexander Pope because of his early start into writing and his continued works
throughout his life. Pope and most poets/authors of the time wrote with reason over feelings and were
typically written in rhymes and heroic couplets.

The Impact Of Fast Fashion On Business Environment
Introduction
The continually increasing globalization in the world has linked many countries together and the
borders have become inconspicuous. Many firms cooperate in a global market, which leads to an
increased amount of transnational corporations acting in a global surrounding (Douglas Wind, 1987).
In the fashion industry, the business environment is especially competitive and firms have to adjust
their business practices rapidly such as products and launching time of each collection on the basis of
the demand of current market (Lowson, King Hunter, 1999). Companies in the fashion industry like
ZARA, Topshop and H M have emerged a new trend fast fashion that combines two main
characteristics: short lead times and trendy design products (Passariello,2008 ; Rohwedder Johnson,
2008). However, fast fashion leaves behind some issues, which are not beneficial to environmental
protection and human costs. In fast fashion industries, it requires companies to complete missions in a
short time, some fast fashion companies use unethical acts in order to complete producing on time
which may result in environmental issue and appears unfair labour practices. In addition, Luz (2007)
pointed out that globalization provided fast fashion industries a chance to produce clothes at lower
prices so that they can sell clothes with a cheaper price. This result in many customers considers fast
fashion clothes to be disposable. Therefore, this essay will first explain what is fast

Alchemy The Alchemist
A dream was bothering Santiago, an Andalusian shepherd. He has the dream every time he slept under
a sycamore tree that grows out of an abandoned church. In the dream, a small boy tells him to look for
treasure at the bottom of the pyramids in Egypt. Santiago talked to a gypsy to interpret the dream, and
told him to go to Egypt. An old man called Melchizedek claimed to be King of Salem, and repeated
what the gypsy said; that it is his Personal Legend to go to the pyramids. Melchizedek convinces
Santiago to sell his sheep and go to Tangier. When Santiago arrived, he s robbed, forcing him to work
for a man that sells crystals. The merchant taught Santiago lessons, and Santiago encouraged him to
take risks with his business. Santiago finally became wealthy.
Santiago decided to use the wages to continue on his Personal Legend : to find the magical treasure.
While he was in the Sahara Desert, he met an Englishman who wanted to be an alchemist. He then

the Master Work, which is called the Philosopher s Stone that can turn lead to gold, the Elixir of Life.

Reflection In Art Writing
The key realisation recognised throughout my art practice this semester has been my investigation of
various binaries; including the study of public and private spheres, internal and external thoughts, and
individual works versus participatory projects. Further consideration of nostalgia, poetry, and the idea
of absence has also been prevalent within my current artwork. This semester I ve also begun
examining the connection my practice has to gesture and the body where my handwriting is perceived
as a physical extension of myself. My overall thinking and making processes teeters back and forth
between my fascination of the idiosyncratic lives of others and using my practice as a cathartic
process to healthily response to traumatic experiences. Although initially regarded as a setback in my
practice, the return to intimate, diaristic confessions encapsulates the foundations of my practice
which is examining my intense, instinctual desire to communicate with the people around me. Thus
far when making artwork this semester, my internal struggle between experimenting with new
concepts and wanting to use my practice to heal has influenced the type of work that I ve made. How I
ve incorporated both desires into my practice is best shown in my works ephemera memorabilia,
Untitled (participatory projections), and apostle tender respectively. Ephemera memorabilia is a video
of my hands turning the pages of terrible confessional and pathetic conversation, a book of visual
poetry and

The Importance Of Concealed Weapons In Education
Lastly, concealed weapons should not be allowed on campus as they would distract from a positive
learning experience. College classrooms must be a place where faculty and students feel safe to
express their opinions. While, the introduction of handguns could inhibit dialog among students by
creating an atmosphere of fear of retaliation from someone that disagrees with a fellow student s
opinion. Teachers may feel trepidation or hesitant to criticize a difficult student s work for fear of the
possibility the student could be carrying a concealed weapon. In order to, promote a positive education
students must feel comfortable in their environment to flourish. This would be diminished if college
classrooms were filled with armed students. Furthermore,

The Olympics s Impact On The Olympic Arena
Ever since its inception in 1896, the Modern Olympics has hosted an invisible sport: politics. The
Olympics calls for a halt to all conflicts ... [and to] strive towards a more peaceful world, but politics
soon spoiled its biennial message. As the Olympics continue to dissolve into ... a political competition
... they no longer ... justify the time and trouble, Dave Anderson, Pulitzer Prize winner for his sports
column, wrote in the New York Times in 1984. The Olympic spirit has routinely been used as an outlet

Boycotting has been used throughout history as an instrument for foreign policy. For any Olympics to
be a true Olympics, all the world s nations should be represented, said Anderson. Not ... those ... on
one side or the other of political barbed wire. As a result of boycott, the essence of the games
competition diminished. At the 1980 Olympics where the United States decided to stay home, the
Soviet Union swept 195 medals the largest won in history followed by the United States in 1984 with
174 medals, when, by no surprise, the Soviets decided to miss. Ironically, the spirit of the Olympics
turned cold alongside the Cold War. [The domination as a result of boycott] diminished any
accomplishments in working hard, said Al Oerter, a four time Olympic gold medal winner. The
Olympic Games quickly turned into a game for politicians, not the athletes. James Montague, the 2009

invasion was not effective, with the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan lasting another eight years. The
1976 boycott was not effective either; the South African apartheid regime survived another eighteen
years. Boycotting did more damage at home than it did away: it proved horrible for the Olympic
movement and for athletes like Don Paige, a renowned track runner, who was left to watch the race he
knew he could win. The Olympics also experiences political terrorism, which

Exile: the state of being barred from one s native country, typically for political or punitive reasons.
However, this dictionary definition fails to cover the true meaning of being exiled. Being exiled is
being forcibly removed by yourself or another from that which you identify with. Edward Said
describes exile as the unhealable rift forced between a human being and a native place, between the
self and its true home (Said 137). Exile is the experience, which may be unbelievably depressing for
some, while it may be enlightening for others. In addition, exile often comes in the form of self exile
the realization of this rift and determining your own fate. Stories, such as Into the Wild, exhibit
characters which feel a demand for change ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although it may have seems to his parents that life is going fantastically for the straight A student
athlete at Emory, it is actually the opposite. Chris doesn t see college as a fulfilling experience. From
the very beginning, internally, Chris seems to hate his family and most importantly his father. Chris
frequently travels out west and one time, discovers that his father has been leading a second life,
which makes him seriously question what parts of his life are actually real, ... made his entire
childhood seem like a faction. But he did not confront his parents with what he knew, then or ever. He
chose instead to make a secret of his dark knowledge and express his rage obliquely, in silence and
sullen withdrawal (Krakauer 123). This withdraw from both his family and society is ultimately what
motivates Chris to go on his journey. Sadness encapsulates his experience as a member of his family
and a student at Emory and the concept of escape is what allows him to discover his purpose not the
other way around as Said claims. He decides to reject all notions of belonging to a family; he becomes
a ghost, wandering and trying to find meaning through solitude. Eventually, near Anchorage, Chris is
able to cross a river, in order to reach an abandoned bus that he would soon call his home. It is in the

This house is fully equipped with 21st century technology. Even though there are no people the house
works on a specific schedule 24 hours 7 days a week. The story begins normally, alarm clock goes off
and right away that s a sign of people. What was not expected was that there is no humans beings what
so ever, it was just one little house by it self, around is just rubble and debree. Since this story is
written as if it was in the future, everything is automated. The house is a machine that did everything
from cleaning to preparing food. Although people are not present (because of the nuclear holocaust),
the house still functions. The climax of the story is when a weak tree bough crashed through the
kitchen window, knocking over cleaning solvent over the stove. Instantaneously the kitchen catches
fire. The house tried its best to defend itself but as we all know nature is unstoppable. This story is
phenomenon; it s very intense and has you on the edge of your seat the whole time. This story is made
for the reader to visualize the actual story, as if you were actually there. All that is left is the lonely
house and the wounded dog. What happens in the end really is unexpected and even sad. In Ray
Bradbury s short story August 2026: There Will Come Soft Rain , He uses various literary devices to
warn us about the dangers of technology . Bradbury uses symbols to illustrate that humans are to
dependent on technology. He uses the themes of the story to

Csr And Its Usefulness For Modern Business
Many social scientists and economists like Friedman (1917 NYT article); Visser (2010) and Karnani
(2011) have been looking at the arguments for and against Corporate Social Responsibility . There are
many different definitions of CSR but the idea behind it is that businesses contribute to the well being
of society, as well as sustainable development by delivering environmental, economic and social
benefits to society, not just economic benefits to the shareholders. Most writers have made slightly
different cases against CSR and its usefulness for modern business and society. One can see, even by
looking at relevant case studies, that there are certainly a large amount of flaws involved in the
concept of CRS and DWBD (Doing well by doing good), which I shall point out over the rest of this
coursework. I shall also consider the positive aspects of CSR, I will explore the critical writings off
Karnani, who claimed that in each case CSR is either irrelevant or ineffective, and compare those to
other notable criticisms such as Reich and Visser who all analyse various faults with the concept of
CSR. A problem that I came across early in my research and reading was that motives for businesses
to engage in CSR are very often not pure. Many businesses use CSR in order to claim their social
licence to operate. As the CSR activity often makes them seem legitimate and responsible, it gives
managers an opportunity to hide and disguise the activities of the corporation. This is the

A Human-Friendly Method of Treating Acid Mine Drainage
The worldwide problem of acid mine drainage causes harm to waterways, plants, animals, and even
humans. Acid mine drainage is water with a high acidity content that originates from water coming in
contact with highly acidic bearing materials in rocks. Those rocks are common in mining regions,
which is why acid mine drainage is such a problem for those locations, including the coal mining
region of Northeastern Pennsylvania. The water affected by acid mine drainage becomes yellow or
orange in color due to the presence of dissolved iron in the oxygen rich water and the water reeks of
sulfur. The water from acid mine drainage has a high pH level and can be dangerous if it comes in
contact with living organisms. Acid mine drainage occurs gradually, with some scientists and
governmental officials predicting some cases of acid mine drainage may be around for as long as a
thousand years (Earthworks Action). Acid mine drainage is a monetary burden as well as an
environmental one. The materials used in the common chemical treatment processes for acid mine
drainage are very costly, with materials costing nearly $1,000 per gallon. Six primary chemicals are
used to treat acid mine drainage, and they are: calcium carbonate, calcium hydroxide, calcium oxide,
sodium carbonate, sodium hydroxide (in solid, 20% liquid and 50% liquid forms), and anhydrous
ammonia (Skousen, Hilton and Faulkner, Overview of Acid Mine Drainage Treatment with
Chemicals). All of these chemicals can be efficient in

  • 2. Essay on Writing Techniques in Poe s The Raven Writing Techniques in Poe s The Raven Edgar Allan Poe uses several writing techniques to create a single concentrated effect of unending despair in his classic poem, The Raven. The most noticeable technique is the use of repetition. Just as repeated exposure to cold raindrops can chill one to the bone, repeated exposure to words of hopelessness and gloom creates a chilling effect. Poe saturates the reader with desperate futility by repetitive use of the words nothing more and nevermore. These two phrases, used in refrain to end seventeen of the poem s eighteen stanzas, drench the reader with melancholy. Poe also uses repetition to spark the reader s curiosity. He refers to the sound of rapping or tapping eight times in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This rare radiance stands in stark contrast to the grim, ungainly, ghastly, gaunt, and ominous raven who now never leaves his chamber (71). Lenore is referred to as a sainted maiden (94), whereas the raven is referred to as a prophet! and a thing of evil! (85, 91). The radiance of Lenore is contrasted with the speaker s soul, which he describes as being under a shadow (107). These contrasts serve to draw attention to the most significant contrast described in the poem: an intelligent, well read, loving man interprets a bird seeking shelter on a cold night as an emblem of never ending anguish and succumbs to depression and madness. Poe masterfully chooses his words to create an effect. He introduces the idea that the tapping is caused by something at his window lattice (33) followed by Let me see, then, what thereat is (34). His choice of the word thereat is interesting in that it suggests the word threat . The sharp t sound at the end of thereat conjures the sound of pecking on glass. The experience of hearing what the speaker hears serves to increase the bond the reader feels with the speaker. Poe s masterful alliteration likewise creates mood as exhibited in the phrase, And the silken sad uncertain (13). These words are not commonly used together. The repetitive s sound forces the reader to hesitate when reading the line, leading the reader to identify with the uncertainty that the speaker is experiencing. In a similar way, the ... • 3. Rock And Roll Is Important Throughout The History Rock and roll is so important throughout the history, which always contributes to the story of music, the public, and the society. It is an indispensable part of music, in which countless famous artists and bands shine repeatedly. The trace of rock and roll is easily found everywhere in different types of music, like hip pop. It has allowed artists to speak on political issues and influence government. For normal people, sometimes rock and roll is like a window, through which people can notice inequality, darkness but also hope. It becomes everyone s emotions destination and also is able to instigate campaigns by utilizing their emotions. Rock and roll is woven into the natural fabric of lifestyle. It is common to find that someone s favorite music is rock and roll. As for fashion, rock and roll elements are supposed to appear in lots of clothing, decorations, and bags. As a result, I find it necessary and interesting to meditate about rock and roll itself and its history. During the development of rock and roll, from its brith to explosion and be mainstream, it has always been influenced by social and culture changes. Social and culture context plays the key role in the development and evolution of it. To some extent, the context controls the death of not only rock and roll but also other genres. However, social and culture changes also promote the division and brith of new types. In turn, each kind of rock and roll reflects those changes during the last sixty ... Modern Day Attacks Against Firewalls and Vpns Modern Day Attacks Against Firewalls and Virtual Private Networks Electronic technology is growing at a rapid rate; more devices are made mobile and wireless, but with those improvement and developments come flaws and malicious opportunities. Cyber attacks are on the rise and no system or device is immune. Many organizations employ multiple layers of firewalls but that doesn t completely eliminate the threat. Attacks against firewalls and virtual private networks or VPNs are constantly being exploited with new methods everyday, but they are yet another obstacle that a cyber criminal must overcome. Unfortunately, many firewalls come with so many rules or policies that they can counteract the security desired and create loopholes for network threats or actually block traffic that is desired or requested by the user. These issues make it really important to understand how all rules and policies in the firewall work and how to apply them. Another tool often used for secure reasons and also as a reliable method to share information remotely is called a Virtual Private Network or VPN. Henry describes A VPN as a group of computers (or discrete networks) networked together over a public network namely, the internet (para 3, 2012). Basically, it s a private network created to allow remote access through a public network. Most often you will see that employees on airplanes or in a public place that will require and utilize these VPNs to access their business resources for all kinds of information, but some people just use it as a means to use their network without physically compromising the actual systems. A good VPN can provide many functions such as access anywhere worldwide without dedicated lines, data security, remote access to business resources and better employee production. For these VPNs to perform these functions properly they are required to provide reliability by ensuring that the network does not break down before reaching its max capacity, scalability to ensure the ability to expand as business grows, and of ... Although driverless cars are feared because they may cause more accidents, the first autonomous car accident was at the fault of a human. The advancements that driverless cars offer to modern technology and its potential market deems itself more beneficial than not. Therefore, automobile manufacturing companies should invest in driverless cars. Autonomous cars would be labeled as a disruptive innovation since its implementation could lead to a lower demand for normal cars. This never before seen technology may very well be the new hit thing thus also making it a radical innovation. A similar effect can be seen through the creation of smartphones. ... However, the manufacturer could bring in additional expertise to gain more insight on the profitability of the technology and train employees of its uses. Additionally, the manufacturer could assess the demand for driverless cars by releasing a few self driving cars as a test run. If the run is deemed profitable the company could incrementally increase funding towards the technology. The automobile manufacturer also would not fall too far behind in terms of competition. Many companies that wait for competitors to test run products often fall off the market because they join the game too late. Consumers also tend to lean towards brands that they know are reliable, rather than fresh companies. With this method, the company would not lose as much if autonomous car did not attract as many consumers as anticipated. • 6. The Negative Effects Of Technology On Our Generation Of... Ashlyn Howard Enc 1101 Professor Janus 29 November 2017 What technology is doing to our generation of children As we all know, technology is changing, evolving and improving every day. Schools are incorporating technology into learning more and more everyday. Every month there is a new phone, tablet, television, laptop and even thousands of websites. While these devices come into handy and can be very helpful, they almost are taking over the world. Almost everyone has a cellular device; many being androids or iphones. Which surprisingly, the majority of these users are children. The apps they have on their phones being: Youtube, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, and more. Younger children have some of those and many games. There are a few questions that come with this use of technology and children: 1.) How much is enough? 2.) What s acceptable? 3.) What are the effects? The problem with technology and children is there are some benefits and some disadvantages. They both weigh out depending on the child and how they use the technology. Children s learning and habits are very critical to their development and learning skills. Especially at young ages like birth to 6 years old, new pathways in their brain are being produced every day and their frontal lobes are active and starting to develop , working memory, attachments, emotions, and perception. And the prefrontal cortex is the last to develop, which explains why children and teenagers have a hard time with decision making and controlling their impulses. So using technology while children s brains are in these stages can be beneficial if used the right way, but also have a negative effect if not used the right way and with limits. As said before many schools are using technology in their education plans. Most test are taken online, studying for these test are online and are either homework or classwork assignments for children. Many children are intrigued and interested by technology and it is an easy way to keep children interested with all the animations and rewarding things. First poem deals with the time during the end of the war, while the latter, which occurs roughly ten years later, explains the disastrous journey of Odysseus fighting his way back home. The character of women in the Odyssey is to exhibit the many and diverse roles that women play in the lives of men. These functions vary from characters such as the goddess that help them to the nymphs who trick them. Women in the Iliad exhibit their significance in the lives of the ancient Greeks because they are so prominent in a world so dominated with military relations. Helen of Troy was one of these women. It becomes aware of Homer s distaste for her because indignity is her central characteristic, and this coming from a writer we have come to associate with honor. It remains unclear whether or not she was forced by Aphrodite to go with Paris. If she was not, then it appears that lust and desire was her sole motivation, leaving her with yet another trait which is unappealing to Homer. Homer tends to lighten Helen s betrayal somewhat in The Odyssey. Homer wants to assure the reader that although it is in the past, it will not be entirely forgotten. In this epic she becomes a wife to Menelaus and not in the literal sense because the two have always been married. Instead, she now openly admits to him and other guests that her actions were unspeakable and unforgivable, almost to say that what occurred what unlike her and she actually is a good woman. Also, Menelaus agrees with her, showing no anger. But Homer lets us know that she is as deceitful and conniving as ever, when Helen admits to openly celebrating the fall of Troy, cheering while the Trojan women wept for their husbands. She says The rest of the Trojan women shrilled with their grief. Not I: my heart leapt up my heart had changed now I yearned to sail back home again (Homer). Thus, Helen goes from being deceitful to adapting disloyalty. Homer s dislike for Helen becomes apparent, but only with further examination. In The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Yossarian complains to Doc Daneeka about Colonel Cathcart s dictum regarding the mission count during every visit to the medical tent. Cathcart s opinion about Yossarian also dawns upon the other men who start to wonder about the man with that name and who he actually is. One of the main points within the story is when the soldiers question Yossarian during the death of Lt. Mudd, whom the men continuously call the dead man in Yossarian s tent (Heller 166). A character that changes Yossarian completely about war is Snowden. After Snowden s death, Yossarian is given a medal of honor for fighting through that battle, but unlike the other men, Yossarian shows up in a disorderly fashion. The reason that Operation Rescue is targeting students of this age is because statistics from the Center for Disease Control show that 60% of all abortions are done on women ages 15 to 24. Operation Rescue is using this opportunity to educate the students especially the young women before they get pregnant and before they make an appointment for an abortion. There is one problem with this program and that is, people that have volunteered their time to educate the students can not actually go into the classrooms and talk to the students. Whatever it is I can assure you farming is the nation s most important and noblest profession. Today farming is seen as a dangerous profession, that s not necessarily the case, it is true that many people are injured and even killed on farms each year. In 2012 alone three hundred and seventy four farmers and farm workers lost there lives due to work related injuries, and every day a staggering one hundred and sixty seven agriculture workers suffer a work related injury (CDC 2012). But why so many? The simple answer is that when it comes to farm safety many people are ignorant. I myself am guilty of not using the proper safety equipment or even removing a safety shield to make things run more efficient. I think we have it hardwired in our brains that bad things only happen to other people, and nothing bad could happen to ourselves, that s not the case. I think that if farmers will take the time to slow down and be more careful and think things through we will cut down drastically on injuries. If you think about it many farmers are constantly stressed, they simply don t have enough hours in the day to accomplish all the tasks at hand so they begin to rush which causes shortcuts to be made which can potentially lead to injury or death. A power usually brings about a reduction of other parties options by limiting the moves they can make, eliminating a possible resolution to the conflict, or restricting their ability to employ countervailing power (Folger, Poole, Stutman, 1997). Fredrik and Michael are both overly emotionally and mentally involved in the situation where it prevents them from having the ability to think objectively. As they become more aggressive and engaged, they tend to fall under the high conflicting people category and emphasize on the person instead of the conflicting issue itself. This is when mediator and third party come into play. Third parties enter a conflict relationship in which the disputants have different expectations, goals, coasts, and rewards, and where they experience pressures and stresses stemming from an uncertain situation (Bercovitch; 1984). Instead of helping Fredrik and Michael resolve their conflict, this mediator helps facilitate and soothe the relationship by generating discussion for the two of them, in the hope of conciliating the conflict. Fredrik and Michael, in this case, may hire a lawyer or a mutual friend of theirs. It is the triad for a third party to cause others to act differently (Bercovitch; 1984). A mutual friend of Fredrik and Michael definitely does the job in serving as a neutral and unbiased position. According to Thompson and Nadler, they argue that cognitive biases and different levels of perception people have on a conflict often intervene with whether or not they can come up with a resolution. Negotiators are often unaware of such biases, instead blaming blocked resolutions processes on party intransigence or self interest (Deutsch; 2000). Coming from a neutral and outsider perspective, this mutual friend of theirs is able to find a middle ground in simplifying the conflict situation as he sees the whole situation ... • 20. Applying A Balance Sheet On The World Of Finances Excited to enroll in this class from the very beginning, I found it to be very informative. Not just it taught me the important terminology used in the world of finances, but also allowed to apply these concepts into my own financial life. First of all, thanks to you, Professor Rutter, I have finally devoted time to make a balance sheet, a document stating my current assets and income, and liabilities at the certain period of time. Now I have been deliberately reviewing my credit card statements for the previous month, and calculating how much money I have spent on the food each month, or how much I have spent on shopping at amazon.com, etc. And even though my consuming behavior was never driven by materialism completely, this class reminded me to be realistic about my general spendings, and to strictly separate the needs from the wants. Additionally, I have expanded my skill of setting financial goals and working towards them. For example, because of Christmas time that is approaching fast, which usually includes gifts and travels, I suggested and pursued that my family (me, my husband, and our child) stick to the weekly budget for food, including dining out. And it is been very helpful method to save some money. Then, the topic regarding financial institutions, as well as services and fees related to these institutions, I found to be very empowering: this topic convinced me that doing a research prior making any commitment to any institution is extremely important. East Asian Politics The performance of East Asian nations, particularly Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and most recently, mainland China, is largely attributable to the East Asian Model, which accounts for the following notable observations: sustained economic growth at high levels for long periods, social, political and economic diversity, and economic activities that are industrialized, export oriented and socially beneficial in nature. The East Asian Model is characterized by the following elements: investment and trade driven growth, active governmental involvement, strong regional cooperation and economic development driven towards poverty reduction. Strong economic interaction among East Asian nations via trade and investment activities stands out as a remarkable feature of the East Asian Model. East Asian nations accommodate a variety of social, political and economic elements that enable them from pressuring one another in creating and fostering improvements in trade and investment. Given the foregoing respect, economic integration stands as a favorable result of the East Asian Model that benefits Southeast Asian nations as well, with the help of regional cooperation via the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). • 22. Myth Of Roman Mythology In many cultures there are flood myths that normally pertain to angered Gods who release their anger by flooding the world to cleanse whatever caused the anger in the first place. In the Roman culture, one of the flood myths mentioned states that Jupiter had been angered by the evil that came with humanity and had wanted to burn the Earth. However, Jupiter had feared by doing so Heaven would be set ablaze as well and thus, with Neptune s help, flooded the Earth. The hero Deucalion and his wife Pyrrha had been the only two to survive. Jupiter had recognized their religious lifestyle had let them live and retracted the flood. Deucalion and Pyrrha had then repopulated the world by throwing stones behind them. In the Murato culture, there is a myth in which a man had been fishing in a lagoon of the Pastaza river, a crocodile had swallowed the fisherman s bait and the man killed the crocodile. The mother of crocodiles had been angered by this and had slashed the water with her tail creating a flood in the area and drowning everybody except for one man who had climbed up a palm tree. After the flood had subsided the man climbed down from the tree, cut off a piece of his flesh, planted it in the soil, and had grown a woman. He had then married the woman and begun to repopulate the world. The two flood myths mentioned above have a few similarities. The first is that the floods had come from the anger of powerful beings. Yes, if it doesn t actualize its page, customers would be able to think, that the hospitality company, doesn t pay attention to them. As a result, it will have a lot of repercussions on the quality provided by the hotel, such as the argument of the competitor with a social page. And of course, we have to raise another point about the idea of actualization. Yes, to update the page, someone is required. It means that a firm must pay a new employee to develop, update and actualize the social media page. In other words, it means: a loss of money, less benefits. To conclude, hospitality companies, have big interests to create their own social page. A summarized look of the history and background of Sears before the merger all started in 1866, When Mr. Richard W. Sears created a watch company that he named R.W. Sears. This company was in Minneapolis, Minnesota and the watches were only sold via mail orders. The following year the company decided to settle in Chicago as their first real location and Mr. Sears hired his first employee named Alvah C. Roebuck, who was a watchmaker. Then in 1888, the first ever catalog that included Mr. Sears watches and jewelry was established. One year later Mr. Sears sells this newly started company and starts another company that was named Sears, Roebuck and Co. A man named Julius Rosenwald, a wealthy clothing line owner, decided to buy out Mr. Roebucks side of the company. Around the same time ownerships are switching the first large catalog for the company was published. Then in 1911 Sears then created their first testing laboratory. By the end of 1913 the company introduces the very popular brand known as Kenmore. After the launch of this brand the company begins to bring in tons of more revenue and decides to create a savings and profit sharing funds for Sears employees. • 27. Interpretation Of Stormy Weather By Lena Horne The version of Stormy Weather I like best was the cover by the Reigning Sound. In this version, the song is updated from a classical style to an alternative rock and roll from the 50 s. The Reigning Sound uses different instrumentation than the covers done by Lena Horne and Royal Crown Revue. The instrumentation used by Reigning Sound, includes guitars, electric bases, keyboards, drums and possibly other instruments. Using these types of instruments gives the song more appeal to the young generations that have a taste for classic rock. Instrumentation is important when giving music a category, for instance music that uses classical rock instruments sounds more upbeat and fast. The cover by Lena Horne, does not incorporate the upbeat and fast rhythm s I look for when picking music. This cover reminded me of songs played in old black and white movies. It made me feel soothed, instead of energetic. When choosing my music, I want to feel energeic and moved, not soothed. This cover sounds like it belong in a movie or playing as background noise to a musical, whereas, the cover by Reigning Sound, has a rhythm that makes you want to move. When it comes to workout drinks, it is best to look for something with lots of glycogen and protein. The common exercise routine breaks down muscle mass. The muscles in the human body need protein to remain firm, and glycogen to replenish the cells within them. Supplements should be consumed two hours following a workout. Dairy products are not recommended as a replacement for post workout supplements because they can cause vomiting and diarrhea. Born in 1688, Pope began his life already facing many challenges through different facets of his life. Because his family were practicing Catholics, the Pope s were forced to move onto the outskirts of town, and Alexander wasn t able to attend school any longer, which challenged him to teach himself. Rising to the challenge, Pope taught himself different languages, and wrote his first poem, Ode on Solitude, at the age of twelve (Masters in English). With his satiric style, Alexander Pope was able to write about his own experiences with Pott s disease, as well as his well known translations of plays such as Illiad and The Odyssey where he included some of his own ideas in their writing (notable biographies). Alexander Pope shaped the writings of his time through the use of satire, drawing on his own life and the situations around him for inspiration and support. In 18th century England, poetry was mainly political and satirical. The main philosophical question was whether the individual or society took precedence as the subject of verse. (slideshare). Reflection In Art Writing The key realisation recognised throughout my art practice this semester has been my investigation of various binaries; including the study of public and private spheres, internal and external thoughts, and individual works versus participatory projects. Further consideration of nostalgia, poetry, and the idea of absence has also been prevalent within my current artwork. This semester I ve also begun examining the connection my practice has to gesture and the body where my handwriting is perceived as a physical extension of myself. My overall thinking and making processes teeters back and forth between my fascination of the idiosyncratic lives of others and using my practice as a cathartic process to healthily response to traumatic experiences. Although initially regarded as a setback in my practice, the return to intimate, diaristic confessions encapsulates the foundations of my practice which is examining my intense, instinctual desire to communicate with the people around me. Thus far when making artwork this semester, my internal struggle between experimenting with new concepts and wanting to use my practice to heal has influenced the type of work that I ve made. Edward Said describes exile as the unhealable rift forced between a human being and a native place, between the self and its true home (Said 137). Exile is the experience, which may be unbelievably depressing for some, while it may be enlightening for others. In addition, exile often comes in the form of self exile the realization of this rift and determining your own fate. Chris doesn t see college as a fulfilling experience. From the very beginning, internally, Chris seems to hate his family and most importantly his father. But he did not confront his parents with what he knew, then or ever. He chose instead to make a secret of his dark knowledge and express his rage obliquely, in silence and sullen withdrawal (Krakauer 123). This withdraw from both his family and society is ultimately what motivates Chris to go on his journey. Sadness encapsulates his experience as a member of his family and a student at Emory and the concept of escape is what allows him to discover his purpose not the other way around as Said claims. He decides to reject all notions of belonging to a family; he becomes a ghost, wandering and trying to find meaning through solitude. • 42. Csr And Its Usefulness For Modern Business Many social scientists and economists like Friedman (1917 NYT article); Visser (2010) and Karnani (2011) have been looking at the arguments for and against Corporate Social Responsibility . There are many different definitions of CSR but the idea behind it is that businesses contribute to the well being of society, as well as sustainable development by delivering environmental, economic and social benefits to society, not just economic benefits to the shareholders. Most writers have made slightly different cases against CSR and its usefulness for modern business and society. One can see, even by looking at relevant case studies, that there are certainly a large amount of flaws involved in the concept of CRS and DWBD (Doing well by doing good), which I shall point out over the rest of this coursework. I shall also consider the positive aspects of CSR, I will explore the critical writings off Karnani, who claimed that in each case CSR is either irrelevant or ineffective, and compare those to other notable criticisms such as Reich and Visser who all analyse various faults with the concept of CSR. A problem that I came across early in my research and reading was that motives for businesses to engage in CSR are very often not pure. Many businesses use CSR in order to claim their social licence to operate. As the CSR activity often makes them seem legitimate and responsible, it gives managers an opportunity to hide and disguise the activities of the corporation. This is the ... • 43. A Human-Friendly Method of Treating Acid Mine Drainage The worldwide problem of acid mine drainage causes harm to waterways, plants, animals, and even humans. Acid mine drainage is water with a high acidity content that originates from water coming in contact with highly acidic bearing materials in rocks. Those rocks are common in mining regions, which is why acid mine drainage is such a problem for those locations, including the coal mining region of Northeastern Pennsylvania. The water affected by acid mine drainage becomes yellow or orange in color due to the presence of dissolved iron in the oxygen rich water and the water reeks of sulfur. The water from acid mine drainage has a high pH level and can be dangerous if it comes in contact with living organisms. Acid mine drainage occurs gradually, with some scientists and governmental officials predicting some cases of acid mine drainage may be around for as long as a thousand years (Earthworks Action). Acid mine drainage is a monetary burden as well as an environmental one. The materials used in the common chemical treatment processes for acid mine drainage are very costly, with materials costing nearly $1,000 per gallon. Six primary chemicals are used to treat acid mine drainage, and they are: calcium carbonate, calcium hydroxide, calcium oxide, sodium carbonate, sodium hydroxide (in solid, 20% liquid and 50% liquid forms), and anhydrous ammonia (Skousen, Hilton and Faulkner, Overview of Acid Mine Drainage Treatment with Chemicals). All of these chemicals can be efficient in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
