How to make the right decision for
yourself

Introduction
• Do you sometimes caught yourself in between making other

people or yourself happy because you cannot do both at
once?
• When you decide to do things for yourself, do you develop a
selfishness feeling from within that creates a lot of suffering
for you?
• On the other hand, when you do things for other people, do
you also suffer because you are not doing things that make
you happy?
• As a result, it does not matter what you decide to do, you
end up suffering
The cause of human suffering
• The main reason why you develop conflict between making

yourself and other people happy is because of your human being
needs
According to Maslow’s Hierarchy human of needs, one of the
human being needs is to belong and receive love and affection
from other people
You believe that to receive this human need, you would have to
impress other people in order to get their acceptance
When you do not do things for other people, you will develop
suffering
And that is why, sometimes, you end up doing things for other
people that you might not like
Understanding “Inter-Being”
The term “Inter-Being” come from the teaching of Zen

Master Thich Nhat Hanh on Engaged Buddhism, which
means everything and everyone is connected
“Inter” means connect, and “Being” means living things and
human beings
In this case, if you are happy, other people will also become
happy
If you are sad, other people will also become sad
If other people are happy, you will also become happy
If other people are sad, you will also become sad
Making your decisions
It does not matter what you decide to do, everyone and

everything will be affected by your actions
In this case, whatever you decide to do that will bring you
happiness, other people will also experience happiness
Whatever you decide to do, if you believe in your heart that
you are making the right decision for yourself, then you
should not feel guilty for any reason; even if a negative
outcome is the result
Whenever you feel uncomfortable when you make the right
decision for yourself, that feeling is like any other feeling, it
will come, but it will also go away
Making decisions
However, if you follow your heart, most likely

you will make the right decision for yourself
Sometimes the decision could be for you, while
other times, they could be for other people
Also, you have to be patient with yourself and
other people because sometimes the benefits do
not manifest right away
Action Steps

2. Write down action steps that will only move

you toward your goals

The cause of human suffering • The main reason why you develop conflict between making • • • • yourself and other people happy is because of your human being needs According to Maslow’s Hierarchy human of needs, one of the human being needs is to belong and receive love and affection from other people You believe that to receive this human need, you would have to impress other people in order to get their acceptance When you do not do things for other people, you will develop suffering And that is why, sometimes, you end up doing things for other people that you might not like

Understanding “Inter-Being” The term “Inter-Being” come from the teaching of Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh on Engaged Buddhism, which means everything and everyone is connected “Inter” means connect, and “Being” means living things and human beings In this case, if you are happy, other people will also become happy If you are sad, other people will also become sad If other people are happy, you will also become happy If other people are sad, you will also become sad

Making your decisions It does not matter what you decide to do, everyone and everything will be affected by your actions In this case, whatever you decide to do that will bring you happiness, other people will also experience happiness Whatever you decide to do, if you believe in your heart that you are making the right decision for yourself, then you should not feel guilty for any reason; even if a negative outcome is the result Whenever you feel uncomfortable when you make the right decision for yourself, that feeling is like any other feeling, it will come, but it will also go away

Making decisions However, if you follow your heart, most likely you will make the right decision for yourself Sometimes the decision could be for you, while other times, they could be for other people Also, you have to be patient with yourself and other people because sometimes the benefits do not manifest right away
