The Annunciation Explored through the Era of Italian...
The Annunciation is a Christian celebration of the iconic moment that the archangel Gabriel
announced to the Virgin Mary that she would conceive and become the mother to the Son of God,
Jesus. The story of the Annunciation derives chiefly from the biblical Gospel of Luke, and has been
portrayed abundantly and variously in many visual art forms from the earliest centuries of
Christianity and Christian iconography. This essay will explore the depiction of the Annunciation
and symbolism in the period of the Italian Renaissance and pay particular attention towards the
development of the focus on spiritualism towards naturalism through the refined language of
expression and gesture from the 14th century to the late 15th century.

Fig. 1 captures the very moment that the archangel Gabriel comes down from the heavenly realm to
earth to announce to Mary that she will conceive the Christ child and he shall be called Jesus. The
gold of his crown is representative of the celestial realm that he has left to deliver this message
(Kleiner, 2010:387). The announcement is depicted very much in the moment as the words are
quite literally illustrated with the text Ava gratia plena Dominus tecum (Van Dijk, 1999:420),
which leave his mouth from left to right as if they were encapsulated in a speech bubble. The
phrase is in fact inscribed in Latin and reads as Hail, Mary, full of grace, blessed art thou among
women (Van Dijk, 1999:420). The draping cloth around Gabriel s gold infused light blue robe
whips around the angel as if he had just land and his wings, which are still erect, depict an
effortless grace of divine delicacy in the way that Martini executed them. Making use of
undulating, long curved linear lines, they are almost liquid like in their fluidity. The angel is
painted holding a branch of olive leaves in his left hand. This is a symbol of the Christ head and
his coming to earth as the Prince of Peace (Emmerson, 2006:456), and also makes a reference to
the traditional biblical story of Noah, the ark and the dove returning with an olive branch as a
promise of the covenant of peace made by God with man (Genesis 8:11, English Standard Version)

I Am Proud Of You
Mamie, can you pass me the salad? I asked my grandmother, as we sat eating dinner together. She
immediately passed me the salad. How was school, sugar? she asked me. That was her nickname
for me, because when I was five, apparently I used to eat sugar right out of the sugar jar she kept
in the pantry. It was good. I got an A in my pre calc exam today, I replied, grinning. Perfect, she
answered. I m so proud of you, Gigi. But did those girls Ivanna, Bess, and Emilie bother you
again? I hung my head. Lately, these three girls at my school had been bullying me. Being as
close to Mamie as I was, I told her about it. Yes. She gave me a hug and kissed the top of my
head. What they say doesn t matter, sugar. Look at how talented you are. Have you been writing
any music lately? Yes! I exclaimed. I just finished writing my song! It s called Mystical Dreams
! Can I see it? she asked. Immediately, I ran upstairs and brought her my little music notebook. I
held it out to her. Have the new neighbors moved in yet? I asked. She nodded. It would be nice of
you to give them some of the crepes I made for dessert and go meet them, she suggested.
Meanwhile, I ll read your song. I ran to the kitchen and grabbed five crepes from the pile Mamie
had left on the stove, put on my shoes, and ran out the door. I suppose I should explain why
Mamie makes such great crepes. My family on my father s side is French, and Mamie came to

What Does It Means To Be An Organ Donor
Have you ever wanted to be a hero to a family or a literal life saver to another? By saying yes to
organ donation you have the ability to do so. In fact, saying yes should be required considering
the number of wasted organs that could save numerous lives every day. On average, there are
about 22 people on the transplant list who die each day while waiting for healthy organs. Also,
every ten minutes, someone is added to the transplant list needing organs to keep them alive. Every
time someone signs up to be a donor, they are saving 8 lives, but can also save and enhance more
than 100 lives through tissue donation. Along with organs and tissue, there are many ways to be a
donor. No matter if you re deceased or living you can be an organdonor. Kidneys, blood, bones,
intestines and more can be donated while you re still living, but if you no longer need your heart
pumping to live, why shouldn t there be a law to donate it to someone whose heart is failing? A
person having a choice for donating their organs, not only puts a stressful decision on them, but
puts stress on families as well who have a loved one waiting for healthy organs.... Show more

If organ donations were mandatory, you or your loved one would have a highly increased chance
of receiving organs. An average of 6,000 people in the United States dies each day, which would
save a countless number of lives on the transplant list. Eventually, one of those 6,000 people could
possibly save my own life. Putting all of the facts aside, people have their own opinions about
organ donation. Some may believe that there is no value in donating their organs to someone who
only has hours left to live, but there is life. Life is the most valuable gift anyone can receive. So
with this being said, organ donation should no longer be a choice but

Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to explore the mindset of companies in the twenty first century that
are unwilling to change from their current belief, which is one that except downsizing vs.
reutilizing their workforce. Today there are too many top levels executive or CEO s that feel that

creating an environment where people can freely share their ideals, one ideal could bounce off
another one and creates lots of other options for the company. The problem, would be is how to
help employees become more creative and innovative. Recommendations, is taking the time out
to praise and reward the employees for doing more with less and for going above and beyond

Bioorthogonal Reaction Lab Report
5. Bioorthogonal Click reactions
Click chemistry has wide applications in biotechnology and chemical biology. For use of such
reactions in the above disciplines of science, such click reactions need to be bioorthogonal. A
bioorthogonal reaction is one which takes place without interfering with native biochemical
processes. These type of reactions take place without interfering with components of the living
system. The term bioorthogonal chemistry was coined by scientist Carolyn Bertozzi in 2003
(Wikipedia)
Bioorthogonal click chemistry can be used to visulaize protein expression, track protein
localization, measure protein activity and identify protein interactions within living systems.(Singh
et al., 2016)
Types of reactions that fit this definition are as follows
5.1 Condensations of Ketones and Aldehydes with Heteroatom bound Amines
Historically, the first bio orthogonal ligations involved ketone aldehyde condensation reactions.
While ketones and aldehydes can form reversible imine adducts with many amines found in
biological systems, this process is thermodynamically unfavourable in water.
This led to the use of hydrazides and aminooxy reagents, often called О± effect amines because the
heteroatom bound amine is much more nucleophilic than simple amines and thus shifts the
equilibrium dramatically to the hydrazone and oxime products, respectively. ( book)
Although ketones and aldehydes are absent from the cell surface and from macromolecules within

History Of The 1968 Olympics In Mexico City
The 1968 Olympics in Mexico City black power salute was an act of protest by the African
American athletes, Tommie Smith and John Carlos during their medal ceremony. Tommie Smith
and John Carlos were both students at San Jose State University. What Smith and Carlos had done
was one of the most memorable moments in the American Civil Rights Movement. Carlos recalls,
What was truly special was not the statue, but how it came about. Students on campus organized a
movement that made the statue happen.
On October 2005, San Jose State University had unveiled a 22 foot statue in honor of the former
students, Tommie Smith and John Carlos. The statue showed Smith and Carlos frozen, fists aloft,
exactly as they had stood 40 years earlier on the Olympic Podium in Mexico City. The second

Smith wore a scarf and Carlos a bead necklace representing lynching. When the national anthem
started playing, Smith and Carlos had bowed their heads and raised their black gloved fists, which
according to Smith stood for the power in black America. Because they had courage and they were
unafraid to express and protest the poor treatment African Americanpeople in the states were going
through, they had suffered consequences. Millions of their fellow Americans were outraged
which resulted them in getting suspended from the U.S team. When they were getting off the
podium they were booed by the crowd, and Smith had said, If I win, I am American, not a black

College Students In Debt Analysis
A recent study done in 2012 has shown that about 1.3 million college students are in debt, that is a
rise from 2008 study with only 1.1 million students in debt. Throughout our country s history,
education has always been important and we have always allowed and pushed every citizen to get
an education. Of course, some will argue that collegecan be affordable due to scholarships,
choosing to work before going to school, or going to a community college. The reality is, most
high school seniors who want to pursue college want a real educationand want to go away to study

Through research, many countries around the world give their citizens options for affordable
secondary education. For example, Mexico, Belgium, Germany, and France are just some of the
countries with free or affordable education, in fact, Mexico s public universities are almost
completely free. Paraphrased from Topuniversities.com, Based on official figures from the
German Education Exchange, that the average cost of studying in Germany is roughly $10,520
per year. Germany pays higher taxes than the United States, that is how the tuition is practically
free. Germans pay a 39.5% social tax, while Americans only pay a 24.8% social tax (Kohli,
2015). Americans pay social taxes just like Germans but America s social tax is not high and the
tax does not go toward secondary education the way it does in Germany. Germany s social tax
helps their older citizens and their younger citizens, something the American government needs
to look at doing. Next, Belgium also pays a higher social tax, their social tax is higher but the
only thing that changes the cost of the education is where it is located. As stated by editor Dana
Vioreanu Belgium bases their tuition off of the regions in Belgium and almost none of the
universities charge more than 835 EUR per year (Vioreanu, 2016). Belgium charges what they do
because of where the colleges are located, if a college is in an expensive

The Moving of the Lim Family Documentary Essay
Singapore experiences a land constraint and with the rising population, there are an almost
desperate calls for more housing estates as well as more facilities even if that means calling on the

buckets and other necessities, the Chew family marches solemnly into the peaceful serenity of

silence settles again as jackhammers slam into the said graves tombstone, shattering them into huge
chunks of marble pieces. However, this ends in a much shorter time, to rush through the heart
breaking process of destroying something so dear to the family.
The possibility of a thunderstorm during the monsoon season, which clashes with Qing Ming
Festival, might bring up the age old superstition of it being inauspicious to ungrave the dead. Feng
Huat, the second son, gives his emotional opinions on the exhumation as they make their hushed
journey to the columbarium. The Sun has almost set when the Lim family finally reaches Mandai
Columbarium, the unfortunate celebration almost coming to an end.
Professional cremators takes over the process and produces ashes from the bones of Teck Huat
and Xu Hui and places each into their respective urns. The family would then pick an auspicious
niche to place these two new urns as a new home for the remains of Feng Huat s parents, along with
tens and hundreds of other remains.

Substance Use Disorder And Substance Abuse
Substance use disorder is defined as being a pattern of maladaptive behaviors and reactions
brought about by repeated use of a substance, sometimes also including tolerance for the
substance and withdrawal reactions. (pg. 294). The individual I will be talking about for the
project is someone that came to crave a particular substance and rely on it every day. Their
choice to devote so much of their time to their substance caused issues between their family and
friends. Both family and friends started to drift away from this individual. It was almost like all
they literally cared about was making sure that they got their substance. Their choice of
substance was alcohol. The individual had built up a tolerance where if there was a longer
period of time where they would have to go without they would start to feel anxious and get
sweaty, that was their withdrawal reactions exposed. A lot of people that have alcohol use
disorder specifically start off by developing their drinking problem in there young college years.
It is the prime time to be pressured by your peers to try and drink until you puke your cuts out.
For other individuals they are so lucky and it actually can be seen as being disorder that is
hereditary. For the specific individual that I am talking about for this paper he developed it
because a majority of his dad s side of the family had alcohol use disorder. This individual new the
odds were against him, but still fell into the same steps his father s side did.

In the image, one lady is looking after children, two are doing calligraphy, one is dancing and

continued to be a part of the modern world, changing as technology was introduced. The film
Mulan does not contain all of this information, making Mulan a fictional source. Mulan is
reliable regarding women s role in the household, but unreliable with women in warfare. In the
film, Disney emphasises the punishment of women participation in warfare. In figure 2 when

by words of mother of Mencius, stating she must submit to her parents. (Ebrey, P.B 1993) Women

Frontier Development in the Oregon Territory
Frontier Development in the Oregon Territory
Introduction Faragher, Buhle, Cziyron and Armitage ( 2010) note the westward development into
the new territories of the United States usually took place in three stages; trade, settlement and
statehood. The speed at which this expansion occurred reinforced America s sense of themselves as
a pioneering people. This experience worked to create a belief that the United States was a nation of
adventurous, optimistic, and democratic people (p. 357). Newspaperman John O Sullivan wrote
that Americans had a God given right to bring the benefits of democracy to other more backward
people, and accomplish this by force if necessary. He argued this was the nation s manifest destiny.
This belief became widespread and in conjunction with a missionary fervor and racist attitudes was
a powerful motivating drive to the Pacific (p. 357).
Discussion
Trade In Oregon development was first predicated on trade between Spanish, British, Russian, and
American ships and region s Indian peoples for sea otter skins. This period lasted from roughly
1780 to 1810. During this period of frontier inclusion there were many, often sexual contacts
between the native inhabitants and the traders (p.360).
Settlement Fur trappers, their Indian wives and their families composed the first permanent
European settlers in the region. They congregated in Willamette Valley, a spot that became known
as the French Prairie even though the inhabitants were a

Insanity In Fyodor Dostoevsky
Fyodor Dostoevsky s Raskolnikov is criminally insane. He is unable to control his actions despite
having the understanding that they are morally wrong. In addition to his illness he lives in St.
Petersburg, a city that was at the forefront of Russian cultural exchange with Europe. As a result of
this exchange, the mentally unstable Raskolnikov was introduced to the Nietzschean philosophyof
the Ubermensch. This lead Raskolnikov to kill an elderly moneylender and her disabled sister.
Using a violent mentally unstable criminal as his narrator allowed Dostoevsky to reveal the
deleterious effect Western philosophy would have on Russian society if it was not counteracted by
a return to traditional belief. Raskolnikov would be classified as insane under the Irresistible
Impulse Insanity Defense. The Irresistible Impulse InsanityDefense is characterized by an inability
to control conduct due to insanity (University of Minnesota). Unlike the oft used M Naghten
defense, those who call the Irresistible Impulse Defense may have committed their actions because
of their insanity, but have the understanding that their actions were morally or legally wrong
(Francone). Raskolnikov s actions seem premeditated, he claims to have rehearsed the murder
several times in his head, however he still questions is ability to commit the crime despite having
an intricate plan for how to commit the crime: Will I really do it, will I really take an axe and hit
her on the head with it... (Dostoevsky

Since the average person could not take themselves as an object, they had to rely on that Other
who does have himself as object (the sovereign) to tell them who they are, and what their
relationship is to him, since he is capable of knowing both at once, and thus of comparing. The
Classical age saw an increased interest by the ruling classes, and the emerging intellectual

microphysical power is parallelled by the establishment of the subject as the final authority on
belief (Luther), the foundation of knowledge (Descartes), and the establisher of rights (Locke).
These ideas gave power to masses who had hitherto seen themselves as having none (hardly having
seen themselves at all), and fuelled the Age of Revolutions. The Classical discovery of the
individual led, by the Romantic period, to its exaltation. The belief in individual power and rights
created a demand not only for access to the privileges previously enjoyed only by the elite (such as
say in the direction of society), but also for comparable narrative distinctiveness.

common folk began to see their images in culture. Individual enshrinement remained the

The Pros And Cons Of Cybercloying
Every year, billions of dollars is being lost due to cybercrime and security. Harassment, Identity
theft, online predators, and ransom are some of the most cybercrimes being committed, that s
causing the most harm to billions of people.
First, there are many forms of harassment that can take place online. There is cyberbullying,
cyberstalking, and internet trolling. Although all three deals with harassment, they all mean
something different. Cyberbullying is bullying that takes place via social media, apps, gaming,
share content, text and etc. It includes posting, sharing, commenting, and sometimes even reacting
to false or even mean comments regarding another person. No Bullying: The World s Authority on
Bulling, reported that in 2016, over nine million people have looked for some type of help or

Bully victims are between two to nine times more likely to attempt to commit suicide. It is
important to take note of this because the suicide age is starting to become younger as years go
one. For example, a eight year old Cincinnati, OH boy had committed suicide in his house.
Gabriel Taye committed suicide because he was being bullied at school by his peers and at his

Era Of Good Feelings Essay
The Era of Good Feelings was a traditional name given to the years of James Monroe s
presidency, following the end of the War of 1812. Events such as the Louisiana Purchase, which
nearly doubled the size of American land and proved the Federalist party didn t have much as they
opposed the purchase, and fighting against the Barbary Pirates which gained the American navy
respect made people in America proud to be there and led up to the good feelings. The time was
mostly characterized by an increase of nationalistic spirits as the Republican party become the
single party in the United Statesafter Monroe won against Rufus King, his Federalist opponent in
the 1816 election. Nationalism would have a large influence on many features of American culture
and economics; however, there were also many tensions growing during this time as well. There
was much discourse over issues such as the national bank, tariffs, and internal improvements. The
Republican party was the sole party at the time, it was also dividing, with many supporting what
was once Federalist policies. Sectional differences over slaveryand states rights would also have a
major impact on politics and economics, with greater importance than the results of nationalistic
influences.
Nationalism became a part of society through many different cultural areas. Gilbert Stuart, Charles
Willson Peale, and John Trumball painted revolutionary heroes. Parson Mason Weems wrote a
fictitious biography of George Washington.

Reflection On Conflict Theory
In this class, the idea of Conflict Theory was brought up very early on. I really enjoy the concept
and find it incredibly useful when considering complex topics. Conflict theory, which was
originally a concept in which Karl Marx is largely attributed, theorizes that conflict arises due to
limited resources and the competition to secure those resources. The theory says that as long as
there is a limit on how much of something there is (and since we all live on a giant ball that has a
set amount of every resource, there always will be), then there will be people who fight to have
control of it. For me, I find this theory in action everywhere, and I routinely use it as a logical
deduction tool to deduce the underlying motivations of those around me.
Whenever I see something strange happening around me, the first thing I do is ask myself: Who
profits from this? How do they profit? Why would they do that? After that, I ask myself who else
would want whatever is in question. For example, if I was asked to find a root cause for the
ongoing conflict in the middle east, I would ask who benefits from it. Once I do that, I would
probably find that a very large portion of the U.S. economy is derived from the import and export
of petroleum, which is highly abundant in the area. In fact, if the U.S. were to lose the oil imported
from the middle east, then disastrous wouldn t even come close to describing the economic turmoil
that would ensue within the United States. From this, I would undoubtedly conclude that the U.S. (
some other European countries) are guilty of destabilizing the region in order to secure rights over
their oil.
But this theory does not just apply to global issues. The idea of conflict applies everywhere, from

Adah s Death
Devin O Donnell
Emily Dickinson (page 365): Because I could not stop for Death
The title of Emily Dickinson s poem, Because I could not stop for Death , helps characterize
Adah. She was left behind, forgotten in a sense, and trampled when ants swarmed and took over
the village. Orleanna, her own mother, didn t save her. But instead of citing Adah s disabilities as
the reason for not saving her, she instead tells Ruth May, the youngest of the four daughters and
was saved by Orleanna, that she was saved over Adah because she was the younger of the two.
Adah fought with all she could to make it to safety, and was saved by Anatole. When she moved,
with Orleanna, back to the United States and went to college, her old, crippled self, died, ... Show

The completion of this section marks the beginning of the Price girls hope in going home. This
also marks the point when the Price family s life starts to go downhill and builds up to the most
tragic event of when they are in the Congo. This poem helps characterize Orleanna. At first she has
hope in Nathan that he will help convert the village people, baptize them, and have them become
part of his congregation. Orleanna progressively loses faith in him as the story goes on, and after
the Underdowns advise them to leave (and Nathan states his desire to stay) she starts to speak out
against him. This Emily Dickinson passage also characterizes Leah as she begins to truly see her
father s character, and loses hope that he is able to protect them, a feeling that she previously held.

Gatlinburg Case Study
As the years pressed on Gatlinburg saw more and more tourist. They decided to take this and
create a town that fully runs off of tourist. The second biggest thing to hit Gatlinburg after the
creation of the National Park has to be when the general assembly passed legislation in 2009 that
made distilleries legal in 41 Tennessee counties. On July 3rd, 2010 the city sold their first legal jar
of moonshine. Since, Gatlinburg has opened Ole Smoky Moonshine which allows tourist to come
into the distillery and are offered free tastings. This allows the tourist to taste the heritage of the
Smoky Mountains. After which the people are able to buy jars of said moonshine and take the taste
of the Smokys home. This passing allowed for a massive increase from an economic and tax
revenue standpoint. The following months brought in more tourist than before. Granted many
people thought by offering free tasting of moonshine and making it legal to brew, the locals thought
it would put out the wrong image of Gatlinburg. Many locals believed that Gatlinburg should have
stayed a more family oriented attraction, but with the passing of the legislation the locals realized
that it didn t affect the family image that had been established. With the locals of Gatlinburg
onboard and the moonshine business beginning to take off, the town was uplifted with tourism and

Anointing of the Sick Sacrament Paper
Sacramental graces
The Catholic Church sees the effects of the sacrament as follows: As the sacrament of Marriage
gives grace for the married state, the sacrament of Anointing of the Sick gives grace for the state
into which people enter through sickness. Through the sacrament a gift of the Holy Spirit is given,
that renews confidence and faith in God and strengthens against temptations to discouragement,
despair and anguish at the thought of death and the struggle of death; it prevents the believer from
losing Christian hope in God s justice, truth and salvation. Because one of the effects of the
sacrament is to absolve the recipient of any sins not previously absolved through the sacrament of
penance, only an ordained priest or bishop ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Several sick persons may be anointed within the rite, especially if the celebration takes place in a
church or hospital. The celebration may also take place during a Catholic Mass.
[edit]Relationship with the Last Rites
Anointing of the Sick is closely associated with, and often administered during the rituals known as
the Last Rites. However, the term Last Rites is not equivalent to Anointing of the Sick , since it
refers also to two other distinct rites: Sacrament of Penance and Eucharist, the last of which is
known as Viaticum (Latin: provision for the journey ) when administered to the dying. The normal
order of administration of the rites is: first Penance (if the dying person is physically unable to
confess, absolution is given conditionally on the existence of contrition), then Anointing, then
Viaticum.
Of the Last Rites, only a priest or bishop can administer the Sacraments of Penance and Anointing
of the Sick. In the absence of a priest these sacraments cannot be administered, but a lay person may
give a dying person Holy Communion, which in this case is Viaticum, the Last Sacrament of the
Christian .[8][14]

The oil used in the sacrament is usually olive oil, though other vegetable oil may also be used

Pros And Cons Of Discrimination In Italy
Sometimes and this is something that go against the human rights is the discrimination, fans,

of he is born in Ghana but he was adopted by a Italy family so he have the nationality of Italy.
Discrimination, the discrimination should be sanctioned, but police and nobody do nothing to
protect the rights of this player, and this acts of discrimination occurs in everywhere, in all the
stadiums of Italy and in all stadiums of South America, this is something serious and that people
have to become aware.
Why? Because actually children suffered the same acts of discrimination, last year I was in a

was a match between a school that is for students of a lower class and a school of high class and

A Brief Note On The Problem Of Illegal Immigration
Corey Lambeth
Mrs. Gallos
English III
What are solutions to Illegal Immigration in the United States?
In this report I will be stating some solutions about illegal immigration. The problem about illegal
immigration is millions of illegal aliens cross our border and get in this country successfully. When
they get in the country they steal our jobs and pay not taxes as they live in this country. But the
president promises to us that they are improving the security of the border and no illegal aliens are
getting in this country unless they get legalized. But in this report I will state that our border is
ineffective and our population of 11 million immigrants is growing and not slowing down.
Regrettably, the government has consistently failed at this, leading to today s untenable situation
with over 11 million individuals unlawfully present in the U.S.. (Solutions 2014)
Problems about Illegal Immigration
The problems with illegal immigration are very serious. Millions of immigrants come to the United
States for job opportunities, which is perfectly fine if you get legalized but that s the problem.
Over 11 million immigrants do not get legalized. If you were to deport the 30 million
undocumented immigrants in the United States that s going to cost you about 130 billion dollars. (
A Third Way on Immigration). Which means they are not actual citizens and they get away with the
things that every American has to do.Illegal immigrants don t have to pay taxes because they

A Discourse Community Of The World Acts And Communicates...
Discourse communities are everywhere. Everywhere we and go and almost everything we do
relates or falls into a discourse community of some sort. Whether it s a long, pointless
conversation on the phone with a best friend or being part of a school croquet club, it s part of a
unique discourse community in some way. Every discoursehas it s own distinct qualities and almost
all have a different way of communicating. These discourses are strong influences on all of our
personalities. The way every human in the world acts and communicates is influenced by one or
multiple discourse communities.
The main non academic discourse that I consider myself to be a part of is weightlifting. I used to be

The gym was so confusing. Everyone had an odd lingo that I had never had any experience with.
They used certain words that I had never heard before. They dressed in revealing clothes. I was
unable to figure out the distinction between sets and reps, which it turned out that those two
words are the most utilized terms in weightlifting. I always heard words like lat, core, one rep
max, spot, lower, etc. It was comparable to learning a new language for me. But with time and
learning, I came to understand what was being said or asked in the gym environment. Seeing my
father go everyday and him being an authority figure, definitely inspired my love for weightlifting.
To this day I love the discourse community of weightlifting and consider myself an avid member
who plans to be a member until my body ceases to cooperate.
In weightlifting, there are certain ways to communicate and talk about lifting or what is being
done. Every exercise has a name that is commonly known among the discourse community, such as
dumbbell side raises, decline bench press, front lat pulldown, and those are just a few examples.
There are hundreds of terms for naming exercises. The most commonly used terms in weightlifting
are rep and set. A rep is repetitions of the movement and a set is how many times someone
performs a number of reps. In order to function is this community, I had to learn these words

The Use Of GPS Monitoring System
Improvements in technology has allowed many individuals to thrive and connect with the world.
In some cases, it is utilized as a tool to track and map events, occurrences, and even individuals.
One type of technology that is commonly used today among law enforcement is the global
positioning system also known as GPS. Using GPS monitoring is an important tool that correction
officers use for individuals that are either on parole or house arrest. The tracking device is essential
to not only maintaining the location of the certain people in question, but it also assists in
monitoring the behavior and social interactions of the offender(s) on a daily basis. Electronic
monitoring is an alternative form of punishment instead of going to jail.... Show more content on

Furthermore, using GPS monitoring to surveillance high risk gang offenders (HRGOs) can keep
the community safe. By watching who they interact with and overseeing the activities that the
parolee becomes involved with may decrease the rate of recidivism. The constant monitoring of
the parolee with the help of the tracking device helps suppress the violent tendency done by the
gang member which then in turns increases public safety. In a poll among agents who used the
GPS monitoring system to track high risk gang offenders, about 87% felt GPS supervision
provided more public safety than traditional parole supervision (National Institute of Justice,
2013). Consequently, a downside to using electric monitoring on offenders is that it is not cheap.
In a study done by the NIJ in a research project, GPS monitoring approximately costs around nine
dollars more than traditional supervision. In fact, the cost of a single individual is around $35.96 a
day (Bulman, 2013). Although the method is more expensive, the GPS monitoring shows results.
The recidivism rate of individuals who are under GPS monitoring have a 12 percent decrease in
arrests than individuals who were not. In addition, offenders under the GPS monitoring device have
a lower rate of violating their parole conditions (Stephan Gies, Randy Gainey, Marcia Cohen, Eoin
Healy, Dan Duplantier, 2012). This means that

Texting And Driving Is A Good Thing Essay
We have all seen them, the people that come barreling down the road not knowing what s
happening because they are too busy looking at their phone. Texting and driving is one of the
most daring things people can do on the road now a days. It is a tragic practice in the United
States that needs to be stopped. It s taking many lives of peoples family and friends around the
United States today. This phenomenon of texting and driving exists and it isn t a good thing.
Although many people would agree that texting and driving isn t a safe act many still do it.
Most people feel discluded from the texting while driving danger and believe that they are safe
drivers while texting. In a survey done by National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
(NHTSA), 55 percent of young adults thought that it was easy to text and drive. Texting while
driving is a terrible thing to be doing, it impairs your driving and leaves you not paying attention
to the main task at hand, yet it is becoming more and more prevalent across the United States. If
you think that you aren t part of the problem cause you can text and drive safely, you are wrong.
Texting and many other forms of distracted driving such as eating, answering calls, and listening
to loud music can be detrimental to how you drive. Of all these texting is arguably the most
dangerous. Those who feel it s not dangerous to text and drive think they are able to multi task
good enough behind the wheel to be able to text. Well, this is

Psychoanalytic Criticism Of Sons And Lovers
David Herbert Lawrence was born September 11, 1885 in a small coal mining village in
Nottingham, England. He was the fourth child of Arthur and Lydia Lawrence. Arthur was a
coal miner who worked in the mine from age 10 until he was 66. Lydia the more educated out of
the two was born into a lower middle class family; this changed when her father suffered a

The story of Sophocles Oedipus Rex helped Freud to help illustrate his theory to the public. In
this story, Oedipus kills his father and marries his mother Slay my father and he dies... fear not
that marriage with thy mother (Oedipus Rex, lines 1000 1013). According to Freud, all male
children form an attraction for their mother around ages 3 5 during the phallic stage of

repress his feeling for his mother the sexual wishes in regard to the mother become more intense
, and the Oedipus complex will be carried past childhood into adulthood; this makes it very
difficult for him to form relationships with other people especially women. In other words, the
child will never grow out of this and he will be dysfunctional in adulthood. In 1910, Ernest Jones
published Hamlet and Oedipus this was the first time that the Oedipus complex was connected and
present in a major theory work. The relationship between Hamlet and Gertrude (Hamlet s mother)
is a bit unusual; Claudius makes the observation that Gertrude lives almost by [Hamlet s] looks .

Sour Dough Diet
Many Americans love the delicious, yet fattening, carbohydrate recognized as bread. Usually,
we all eat bread when it is stuffed with meat and cheese, but most can t resist the taste of certain
breads without the added accompaniments. Sour Dough bread, being a popular favorite, is
most commonly made by preparing your starter dough, feeding the starter dough, then finally
kneading and baking the loaves. The first step is making the starter dough. Before starting, make
sure you have a large, non metallic bowl for mixing. Making sure your bowls are non metallic
ensures that the dough will not ruin. Mix together dry yeast, two cups of warm water, and two
cups of all purpose flour. Once you have mixed all of your ingredients, obtain the mix with a
loose seal and leave the starter dough in a warm place to ferment for four to eight days and check
on it occasionally. Making sure the breadis well fermented will improve the quality of the dough.

A Fan Of Classical Music Essay
As a fan of classical music, I decided to attend the Mutter Bronfman Harrell Trio. Which consists of
Anne Sophie Mutter on Violin, Yefim Bronfman on Piano, and Lynn Harrell on Cello. Their
powerful bond within the music, grasped my attention. I have heard many single instruments, but
never the violin, piano, and cello all in one. It was defiantly a new and exciting experience, which I

The group name is The Mutter Bronfman Harrell Trio, which like I mention before consists of
Ms. Mutter, Mr. Bronfman, and Mr. Harrell. The venue was located in the city of Northridge,
18111 Nordhoff St, Northridge, CA 91330, on the campus of California State University
Northridge (CSUN) in the Valley Performing Arts Center. The performance was held on the 16th
of April, 2015 at 7:30 p.m. The performances was based on two trios. One in B flat major, Op. 97 (

The Future Of Terrorism In The United States
Over the past Century, terrorism has advanced from random killings to enormous plans for
terrorist groups. To understand terrorism you must first define it. Terrorism as we all know it is
hard to define and understand, and has many different definitions as it is used widely. The word
terrorism stems from the word terror , which means to instill fear in. People become terrorists
when they take the actions towards instilling fear and terror upon people to prove a certain point
or agenda. Some terrorists may have the motivation of proving something political, while some
may just inflict terror to keep control over a group, people or country. Then there are terrorists who
act under the notion that they are showing support for something, as in religious regions, while
others do so to show disdain for something they don t agree with. Government, individual agencies,
private agencies, and academic experts have all developed, proposed, designed, and analyzed what
constitutes acts of terrorism. The meaning of terrorism has definitely changed and acquired new
definitions over the years. The million dollar question is how will the future of America be affected
by this act of terrorism?
Terrorism represents a continuing threat to the United States. It is the most significant threat to our
national security. Terrorist attacks have definitely left many concerns about the possibilities of
future incidents of terrorism in the United States. Since the events of September 11, 2011,

Inner Turmoil In Giovanni s Room By James Baldwin
David s Inner Turmoil in Giovanni s Room
When James Baldwin first presented the novel Giovanni s Room to his agent Helen Strauss, she
told him to burn it she feared the novel s open homosexual relationship would be unappealing to
Baldwin s audience and harm the book s success. This negative attitude towards the LGBT+
community made it all the more important for Baldwin to publish his novel, which was

stereotypical views on men and sexuality, David, the main character of Giovanni s Room, develops

When contemplating their relationship, David laments, I told her that I loved her . . . and I
made myself believe it. But I wonder if I had. I was thinking . . . of our nights in bed, of the
peculiar innocence . . . which had made [them] . . . so unrelated . . . to my life (5). Here, David
acknowledges his conscious efforts to convince himself that he loves Hella, implying that true
love, on some level, must be intuitive and natural. He begins to realize that the love he feels for
her is not real; he only enjoys the socially acceptable relationship that she offers. Their
partnership requires no deeper emotion than pure sexual desire, which is the kind of detached
relationship he craves. Similarly, after meeting Giovanni, David hopes to burn out, through Hella,
[his] image of Giovanni and the reality of his touch (122), yet when walking down Raspail, a
street David has walked with both of them, the face that [glows] insistently before [him is] not her
face but [Giovanni s] (94). Hella provides a distraction for David from his feelings for Giovanni,
but David knows subconsciously that he loves Giovanni much more genuinely and intimately. In
referencing the reality of his touch, David acquiesces the authenticity of his love for Giovanni, so
different from the shallow relationship he has

Squealer s Name In Animal Farm By George Orwell
If I m gonna tell you a real story, I m gonna start with my name (Lamar). A name means a lot
about a person. It shows that a person acts a certain way, the way someone looks like something,
or even how someone fills and shapes their name into how they want to be shown. George Orwell s
Animal Farm shows this with a pig named Squealer. Squealer s nameis a great representative of his
personality traits because the character spreads propaganda and is very persuasive.

Roy s Narrative Analysis
Roy s Perspective:
The only way we can track down that serial killer is to split up. I announced. My soldiers, 1st
Lieutenant Riza Hawkeye, 2nd Lieutenant Jean Havoc, and Alphonse Elric were helping track
down Barry the Chopper. He s committed many murders by chopping up his victims with a butcher
knife, I guess you could say that s how he got his name.
Yes, Sir. replied Riza. Her and Alphonse started to walk down the dreary tunnel in the opposite
direction. We were underneath laboratory five, originally looking for something Barry had lost.
Barry s soul was attached to a suit of armor, and he was used as an immortal slave. When he
caught sight of his original body, he quickly realized there was a soul of another creature inside it.

losing grasp on her life. Finally, her body started breaking off into specs of nothing.
You ve finally done it, you killed me. I hate losing, even if there are better ways to die at the hands
of a man like you. Roy s cold black eyes stared at her, emotionless. I like your eyes, I can t wait for

Colonel! I cried out, running to be by his side.
Lieutenant, are you okay? He asked.
Please sir, worry about yourself for once! We need to get you to a hospital, fast. I could still feel

How The Corrupt Church In The Canterbury Tales
In The Canterbury Tales, the characters are on a pilgrimage to Sir Thomas Beckett s grave;
although many of these pilgrims are seemingly pious members of the church, many of these men
and women are creating a new religion which is corrupt from the beginning due to lying, cheating,
and leaders who do not practice the religion which they teach. These corrupt religious leaders who
are mentioned in The Canterbury Talesinclude; the Monk, the Friar, the Prioress, and the Pardoner.
Although, there are many corrupt church members, Chaucer does include some good church
members such as the Parson and his brother, the Plowman. Unlike the other church members, these
pilgrims care for the sick and the poor, and they are not involved in the fake ornateness of the
Catholic church. Many of the corrupt members of the church are only religious leaders due to the
money, and the fact that members of the church are considered part of the upper class. Due to all of
this corruption that Chaucer mentions, it is likely that he believed that corruption was the rule,
rather than it being the exception to the rule.

Some people that are honest members of the church include the Parson, and the Plowman. The
Parson was a poor man, but he was rich in the thoughts of Christ. Rather than condeming his
parshioners, if they were unable to pay their tithes; the Parson would give them some of his
money to help them. Furthermore, he never neglected his parshioners, in either rain or horrid
weather he would go and preach to his parshioners. Whatever his message was he preached it and
then he practiced it. This Parson believed that it is impossible to lead parshioners if the parson is
full of sins. Besides the Parson, the other uncorrupt pilgrim was the Plowman. He devoted his
entire life to God, and helped his neighbors as God had

Pluralism And The American Dream
A pluralistic society with pluralism is what the United States has always strived towards
(Friedman). The mixing of many cultures, ethnicities, and minorities is something that America has
been known for as long as it has been a country. For many citizens the idea of pluralism is closely
linked to the ideals of the American Dream; the idea that every citizen of this country shares an
equal opportunity through determination, a strong work ethic, and initiative. Through these
methods every United Statescitizen should, in theory, be able to achieve both prosperity and
success. However this theory, whilst wonderful as a hypothesis, is rarely proven to be true. In fact,
it can be said that the American Dream is dead. The middle class of America,... Show more content

Without the financial means change in a capitalistic society is virtually impossible. Therefore, in
theory, more income means a better stance in society. However, wages are entirely stagnant, the
middle class has not seen an income change in fifteen years (Eskow). In fact, when comparing
incomes, Americans are making less now than they were when Bill Clinton was in the white house
(Meacham). Even if there is still the seeds of the American dream sown around the country, it
cannot grow without the water that is finances. Despite the stagnant incomes of the middle class
the gap between the upper and lower classes of American society is constantly widening. This
growing separation is further proof of the American Dream becoming more elusive for more people
(Meacham). One could say that the separation not only makes the American Dream more elusive,
but is a contributing factor to the death of the Dream. Often American citizens, when income has
failed, have relied on education to further their stance in society but this is no longer

Mental Health Problems And Violence Among Criminal Offenders

The main topic of study is to determine whether there is a correlation between mental health
problems and violence among criminal offenders. The purpose of the study conducted by (Felson,
Silver and Vaneseltine) was to examine whether criminal offenders with mental health problems
were more likely to commit violent crimes in comparison to offenders without mental health
problems. (p 405). There are elements which will be critiqued and analysed further.
There is a focus of a particular type of study which is the relationship between mental health
problems and violence against criminal offenders. The problem is researchable and can be

The text is organised very clearly with sub headings for different elements which were researched
by the authors.
One of the key issues is the generalisation of the data produced. Although there were approximately
17,000 participants, all of the participants were criminal offenders, who had not been committed to
a psychiatric institution; therefore it is difficult to determine whether there is any connection with
individuals with mental health problems and the violence committed by them. There are
researchers who will agree with the hypothesis put forward in this journal article however there are
researchers who claim that there is not strong enough evidence to suggest whether or not the
hypothesis can be held true. Moreover, the important elements have been excluded from this study
such as, alcohol and drug use.
In addition, the method used had variables which could not be controlled. In the instance of the
participants, it is quite common for the participants of the study to lie about whether or not they
suffer from mental health problems. This may be due to the participants being aware of how they
may be perceived by society and the general public. The data provided by the participants can be
affected by social desirability,

Colosseum Architecture
The Roman Colosseum is a prime example of an important architectural building that has not only
withstand the test of time, but also has had a major impact on how we perceive buildings in the
modern world. According to britannica, construction on this building started around 70 AD and
currently still stands in Rome, Italy. The historic that is held within the Colosseumallows for art
historian to study and also criticize it as well. Big ideas such as, how the artist manipulate the
material or how the art represents tradition as well as change are aspects that are accounted for
when criticizing art such as the Colosseum. To start, we are going to talk about how the
Colosseum was built and how it was composed during the time. As stated before, the Colosseum
started construction around 70 AD and was completed by 80 AD. According to Gardner s Art
Through The Ages, the Colosseum was built using mostly concrete since it was the most widely
utilize material during the time period. Inside the Colosseum or the amphitheatre as it was also
called, it situated approximately 50,000 spectators according to Britannica. It was additionally
noted on Britannica that the Roman used retractable velarium or awning, in order to shield
spectators from the sun. These awning were moved by sailors that were located around the
Colosseum. The seats that spectators were situated in, were held up by complex system of barrel
vaulted corridors. Around the Colosseum were 76 gateways, which made it easy for

  • 2. The Annunciation Explored through the Era of Italian... The Annunciation is a Christian celebration of the iconic moment that the archangel Gabriel announced to the Virgin Mary that she would conceive and become the mother to the Son of God, Jesus. The story of the Annunciation derives chiefly from the biblical Gospel of Luke, and has been portrayed abundantly and variously in many visual art forms from the earliest centuries of Christianity and Christian iconography. This essay will explore the depiction of the Annunciation and symbolism in the period of the Italian Renaissance and pay particular attention towards the development of the focus on spiritualism towards naturalism through the refined language of expression and gesture from the 14th century to the late 15th century. As a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Fig. 1 captures the very moment that the archangel Gabriel comes down from the heavenly realm to earth to announce to Mary that she will conceive the Christ child and he shall be called Jesus. The gold of his crown is representative of the celestial realm that he has left to deliver this message (Kleiner, 2010:387). The announcement is depicted very much in the moment as the words are quite literally illustrated with the text Ava gratia plena Dominus tecum (Van Dijk, 1999:420), which leave his mouth from left to right as if they were encapsulated in a speech bubble. The phrase is in fact inscribed in Latin and reads as Hail, Mary, full of grace, blessed art thou among women (Van Dijk, 1999:420). The draping cloth around Gabriel s gold infused light blue robe whips around the angel as if he had just land and his wings, which are still erect, depict an effortless grace of divine delicacy in the way that Martini executed them. Making use of undulating, long curved linear lines, they are almost liquid like in their fluidity. The angel is painted holding a branch of olive leaves in his left hand. This is a symbol of the Christ head and his coming to earth as the Prince of Peace (Emmerson, 2006:456), and also makes a reference to the traditional biblical story of Noah, the ark and the dove returning with an olive branch as a promise of the covenant of peace made by God with man (Genesis 8:11, English Standard Version) In the middle of the very shallow ... I got an A in my pre calc exam today, I replied, grinning. Perfect, she answered. I m so proud of you, Gigi. But did those girls Ivanna, Bess, and Emilie bother you again? I hung my head. Lately, these three girls at my school had been bullying me. Being as close to Mamie as I was, I told her about it. Yes. She gave me a hug and kissed the top of my head. In fact, saying yes should be required considering the number of wasted organs that could save numerous lives every day. On average, there are about 22 people on the transplant list who die each day while waiting for healthy organs. Also, every ten minutes, someone is added to the transplant list needing organs to keep them alive. Every time someone signs up to be a donor, they are saving 8 lives, but can also save and enhance more than 100 lives through tissue donation. Along with organs and tissue, there are many ways to be a donor. No matter if you re deceased or living you can be an organdonor. Kidneys, blood, bones, intestines and more can be donated while you re still living, but if you no longer need your heart pumping to live, why shouldn t there be a law to donate it to someone whose heart is failing? A person having a choice for donating their organs, not only puts a stressful decision on them, but puts stress on families as well who have a loved one waiting for healthy organs.... An average of 6,000 people in the United States dies each day, which would save a countless number of lives on the transplant list. For use of such reactions in the above disciplines of science, such click reactions need to be bioorthogonal. A bioorthogonal reaction is one which takes place without interfering with native biochemical processes. These type of reactions take place without interfering with components of the living system. The term bioorthogonal chemistry was coined by scientist Carolyn Bertozzi in 2003 (Wikipedia) Bioorthogonal click chemistry can be used to visulaize protein expression, track protein localization, measure protein activity and identify protein interactions within living systems.(Singh et al., 2016) Types of reactions that fit this definition are as follows 5.1 Condensations of Ketones and Aldehydes with Heteroatom bound Amines Historically, the first bio orthogonal ligations involved ketone aldehyde condensation reactions. While ketones and aldehydes can form reversible imine adducts with many amines found in biological systems, this process is thermodynamically unfavourable in water. This led to the use of hydrazides and aminooxy reagents, often called О± effect amines because the heteroatom bound amine is much more nucleophilic than simple amines and thus shifts the equilibrium dramatically to the hydrazone and oxime products, respectively. Frontier Development in the Oregon Territory Frontier Development in the Oregon Territory Introduction Faragher, Buhle, Cziyron and Armitage ( 2010) note the westward development into the new territories of the United States usually took place in three stages; trade, settlement and statehood. The speed at which this expansion occurred reinforced America s sense of themselves as a pioneering people. This experience worked to create a belief that the United States was a nation of adventurous, optimistic, and democratic people (p. 357). Newspaperman John O Sullivan wrote that Americans had a God given right to bring the benefits of democracy to other more backward people, and accomplish this by force if necessary. He argued this was the nation s manifest destiny. This belief became widespread and in conjunction with a missionary fervor and racist attitudes was a powerful motivating drive to the Pacific (p. 357). Discussion Trade In Oregon development was first predicated on trade between Spanish, British, Russian, and American ships and region s Indian peoples for sea otter skins. This period lasted from roughly 1780 to 1810. During this period of frontier inclusion there were many, often sexual contacts between the native inhabitants and the traders (p.360). In addition to his illness he lives in St. Petersburg, a city that was at the forefront of Russian cultural exchange with Europe. As a result of this exchange, the mentally unstable Raskolnikov was introduced to the Nietzschean philosophyof the Ubermensch. This lead Raskolnikov to kill an elderly moneylender and her disabled sister. Using a violent mentally unstable criminal as his narrator allowed Dostoevsky to reveal the deleterious effect Western philosophy would have on Russian society if it was not counteracted by a return to traditional belief. Raskolnikov would be classified as insane under the Irresistible Impulse Insanity Defense. The Irresistible Impulse InsanityDefense is characterized by an inability to control conduct due to insanity (University of Minnesota). Unlike the oft used M Naghten defense, those who call the Irresistible Impulse Defense may have committed their actions because of their insanity, but have the understanding that their actions were morally or legally wrong (Francone). Raskolnikov s actions seem premeditated, he claims to have rehearsed the murder several times in his head, however he still questions is ability to commit the crime despite having an intricate plan for how to commit the crime: Will I really do it, will I really take an axe and hit her on the head with it... The realisation of the significance of microphysical power is parallelled by the establishment of the subject as the final authority on belief (Luther), the foundation of knowledge (Descartes), and the establisher of rights (Locke). • 19. Reflection On Conflict Theory In this class, the idea of Conflict Theory was brought up very early on. I really enjoy the concept and find it incredibly useful when considering complex topics. Conflict theory, which was originally a concept in which Karl Marx is largely attributed, theorizes that conflict arises due to limited resources and the competition to secure those resources. The theory says that as long as there is a limit on how much of something there is (and since we all live on a giant ball that has a set amount of every resource, there always will be), then there will be people who fight to have control of it. For me, I find this theory in action everywhere, and I routinely use it as a logical deduction tool to deduce the underlying motivations of those around me. Whenever I see something strange happening around me, the first thing I do is ask myself: Who profits from this? How do they profit? Why would they do that? After that, I ask myself who else would want whatever is in question. For example, if I was asked to find a root cause for the ongoing conflict in the middle east, I would ask who benefits from it. Once I do that, I would probably find that a very large portion of the U.S. economy is derived from the import and export of petroleum, which is highly abundant in the area. In fact, if the U.S. were to lose the oil imported from the middle east, then disastrous wouldn t even come close to describing the economic turmoil that would ensue within the United States. From this, I would undoubtedly conclude that the U.S. ( some other European countries) are guilty of destabilizing the region in order to secure rights over their oil. But this theory does not just apply to global issues. The idea of conflict applies everywhere, from knowing what a possible future employer wants to hear, to understanding how much you are paying at the register when you go grocery shopping. In fact, both of these ideas had a large impact on how I landed my first job. When I was in high school, seniors were required to participate in a 200 hour internship at local businesses in order to graduate. When they get in the country they steal our jobs and pay not taxes as they live in this country. But the president promises to us that they are improving the security of the border and no illegal aliens are getting in this country unless they get legalized. But in this report I will state that our border is ineffective and our population of 11 million immigrants is growing and not slowing down. Regrettably, the government has consistently failed at this, leading to today s untenable situation with over 11 million individuals unlawfully present in the U.S.. (Solutions 2014) Problems about Illegal Immigration The problems with illegal immigration are very serious. Millions of immigrants come to the United States for job opportunities, which is perfectly fine if you get legalized but that s the problem. Over 11 million immigrants do not get legalized. If you were to deport the 30 million undocumented immigrants in the United States that s going to cost you about 130 billion dollars. ( A Third Way on Immigration). Which means they are not actual citizens and they get away with the things that every American has to do.Illegal immigrants don t have to pay taxes because they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Everywhere we and go and almost everything we do relates or falls into a discourse community of some sort. Whether it s a long, pointless conversation on the phone with a best friend or being part of a school croquet club, it s part of a unique discourse community in some way. Every discoursehas it s own distinct qualities and almost all have a different way of communicating. These discourses are strong influences on all of our personalities. I always heard words like lat, core, one rep max, spot, lower, etc. It was comparable to learning a new language for me. But with time and learning, I came to understand what was being said or asked in the gym environment. • 29. The Use Of GPS Monitoring System Improvements in technology has allowed many individuals to thrive and connect with the world. In some cases, it is utilized as a tool to track and map events, occurrences, and even individuals. One type of technology that is commonly used today among law enforcement is the global positioning system also known as GPS. Using GPS monitoring is an important tool that correction officers use for individuals that are either on parole or house arrest. The tracking device is essential to not only maintaining the location of the certain people in question, but it also assists in monitoring the behavior and social interactions of the offender(s) on a daily basis. Electronic monitoring is an alternative form of punishment instead of going to jail.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, using GPS monitoring to surveillance high risk gang offenders (HRGOs) can keep the community safe. By watching who they interact with and overseeing the activities that the parolee becomes involved with may decrease the rate of recidivism. The constant monitoring of the parolee with the help of the tracking device helps suppress the violent tendency done by the gang member which then in turns increases public safety. In a poll among agents who used the GPS monitoring system to track high risk gang offenders, about 87% felt GPS supervision provided more public safety than traditional parole supervision (National Institute of Justice, 2013). Consequently, a downside to using electric monitoring on offenders is that it is not cheap. In a study done by the NIJ in a research project, GPS monitoring approximately costs around nine dollars more than traditional supervision. In fact, the cost of a single individual is around $35.96 a day (Bulman, 2013). Although the method is more expensive, the GPS monitoring shows results. The recidivism rate of individuals who are under GPS monitoring have a 12 percent decrease in arrests than individuals who were not. In addition, offenders under the GPS monitoring device have a lower rate of violating their parole conditions (Stephan Gies, Randy Gainey, Marcia Cohen, Eoin Healy, Dan Duplantier, 2012). Usually, we all eat bread when it is stuffed with meat and cheese, but most can t resist the taste of certain breads without the added accompaniments. Sour Dough bread, being a popular favorite, is most commonly made by preparing your starter dough, feeding the starter dough, then finally kneading and baking the loaves.
