Mobile call data records from phones in Kenya were used to study how human movement affects the spread of malaria. Researchers were able to identify "source" and "sink" regions for malaria transmission and recommend refocusing control efforts. This approach could potentially be applied to dengue fever surveillance in India, though the disease transmission models would differ. A planned WHO program in India aims to incorporate mobile module surveillance of dengue outbreaks.
