Law Enforcement And Corrections In The Future Essay
Assess the role of law enforcement and corrections in the future. What does the role of state and local
police or corrections look like in five years? What about ten years? Support your statements with
scholarly sources.
Since the attacks of 9/11, there has been much reflection on current state of law enforcement and
correction throughout the United States. Common practices in law enforcement and corrections is
likely to change given the vast technological advances that have been made in recent years. According
to Jay Fortenbery, As new technology unfolds, law enforcement organizations must adapt techniques
and amend policies to better serve and protect communities (Fortenbery, 2016). Sophisticated
technology is changing the way policing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Over the next ten years many of the new technologies will be implemented in policing. Some of the
technologies currently being tested includes: nanotechnology, metamaterial cloaking camouflage,
unmanned drones, OICW gun, dragon skin armor and microwave technologies ADS. The ADS
(Active Denial System) will be used deter rioters and high risk threats. It is used to heat up the spark a
reaction in water and fatty tissues of an individual. The ADS is very painful causing the target to heat
up from the inside out. According to Amy Miller, Nanotechnology gives law enforcement the hope of
someday operating with a lower rate if failure and risk by being able to control outcomes, and protect
against threats with legions of tiny bugs to carry out the dirty work (Miller, 2011). In the future state
and local police will take on a role that brings more of a command presence to communities.
Implementing these systems will make communities safer, reduce crime rates, save the lives of law
enforcement personnel, and save the lives of persons in uniform. Based on these findings, the future of
law enforcement and policing seems to be a bright one. However, law enforcement leaders ought to
ensure that the implementation on new technology does not violate the rights of the

Case Study Of Dominos
1. Economies of scale: Dominos is also able to use its large buying power to hedge better costs when
commodity prices fluctuate, it also gives it a better bargaining power with suppliers.
Even at a master franchisee level, Dominos has been able to standardize and centralize the supply
chain services. Taking the UK‟s supply chain as an example, we look at the country level supply chain
works:
1. All the raw materials and food stuffs (dough, ingredients) are prepared at a central commissary in
the UK located at Milton Keynes.
2. The commissary, then supplies to distribution centers which are located in Milton Keynes, Penrith
and Nass.
3. The distribution centers then supply to the individual stores once in 3 days (to ensure a JIT
philosophy) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The company s key focus areas have always been to deliver pizza on time. Over time, Dominos has
not been focusing on its service aspect, and in a increasingly customer centric world it is critical that
Dominos improves its hiring / training practices and deliver world class customer service along with
the best in class product that it currently offers.

Street Gangs And Its Effects On The Minds Of Today s Youth
Street gangs have played a major role in the minds of today s youth. For some youth, joining a gang is
considered to be a rite of passage. Most youth join gangs to have a sense of brotherhood and
sisterhood, to be accepted, to feel protected, and to feel like they belong (Violent Prevent Institute,
2016). In most cases, they look up to the older men or women in gangs for guidance not realizing that
in most cases, the older people who are in the gang joined for the same reasons (Violent Prevent
Institute, 2016). In most city neighborhoods, joining a gang is the urban equivalent of joining the Cub
Scouts or a Brownie troop in the suburbs. For a lot of the older gang members, it is a matter of simple
economics. They often cannot find legal work and certainly nothing that pays nearly as well as selling
drugs and committing crimes (Violent Prevent Institute, 2016). Youth want to have the same flashy
lifestyle that provides them with expensive clothing, drugs, sex, and respect (Violent Prevent Institute,
2016). Gang violence is something that affects us all in many ways. A lot of people are terrified of
gang violence. With every wrong decision, there could be major consequences following it.
In the United States, there is estimated to be over 1.5 million people in gangs and roughly 35,000
different gangs operating. Some recognizable gangs are Gangster Disciples, Black Disciples, Bloods,
Crips, Two Six, and Latin Kings (Hagan, 2016). Among those gangs are other street gangs,

Subtitle: Innocent protesters beaten by cruel officers
Joanne Blackmon marched hand and hand between two of her school teachers while they left the
Brown Chapel Church. As the group of nearly 350 victims, mostly African American, walked through
Selma, they prayed and sang.
Once the crowd reached the Edmund Pettus Bridge, they were stopped short by Alabama State
Troopers. Joanne s grip tightened around her teacher s hands. Although the group of protesters were
threatened by the troopers, they did not budge. The State Troopers showed no mercy as they brutally
attacked the peaceful mob. As she breathed in air, Joanne immediately knew what she had inhaled tear
gas. The members of the group ran ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Everyone seemed on board.
On the morning of March 7, 1969, the Selma March started.
Stopped Short Only a short time after, John Lewis and Hosea Williams led the crowd out of the
church, starting with high hope. The group of protesters marched through Selma in pairs. Their minds
were set on getting to Montgomery to confront the governor.
As they were about to cross the Edmund Pettus they were stopped short by Alabama State troopers.
Go home or go to your church! shouted one of the head State Troopers. The mob knew if they didn t
move they would be beaten, but they stood strong and prepared themselves for the worst. The troopers
threatened to attack if they did not move soon.
Exactly one minute and five seconds later, the troopers charged. The crowd was violently beaten with
billy sticks and forced to inhale the toxic tear gas. The group attacking them did not show any pity as
they repeatedly struck and pounded most of the nonviolent protesters as they attempted to scrambled
away.
The violent officers chased them halfway back to the Brown Chapel. More than 90 innocent people
were sent to the hospital shortly after.
Only two days later, the crowd gathered once again in the church and prayed. They prayed for
freedom and for their loved ones to heal soon. The building reeked of tear gas still clutching the
protesters and their clothes.

Aristocrat Organizational Structure
The capacity of an organization to survive in the present, intricate and competitive business
environment is strongly grounded on the nimbleness and flexibility of the established organizational
structure (Shafieem Razminia Zeymaran, 2016). Furthermore, the effectiveness of the organizational
structure is a significant aspect of obtaining a competitive advantage in the industry. Unfortunately, at
Aristocrat, the establish structure is ineffective and creates a cumbersome environment and therefore
acts in a preventive manner rather than as a source of competitive advantage. The ineffectiveness of
the organization structure at Aristocrat appear to be a result of at least two significant inadequacies.
The first concern relates to the undefined reporting lines between geographical locations. The Class III
business segment has multiple locations throughout North, Central and South America that
collectively are known as the American Class III Operations. Unfortunately, each of the functional
areas at these isolated locations report to different managers and management levels at the North
American headquarters. Moreover, some the employees report directly to Australia rather than North
America. The informal and unstructured reporting lines at these locations results in ineffective ...

that are dictated by the Executive Management in Sydney, Australia. Furthermore, each of these

competitiveness that discourages flexibility and generates an environment where detailed business

Into The Wild Alison Character Analysis
The panel that grabbed my interest is the one at the bottom of page 95. It shows a dramatic disconnect
in the family, the caption referring to it as a chink in my family s armor. In the foreground, Alison is
sitting in front of the TV set, while in the background her father is busy dusting plastic flowers. There
are many important details in the frame that help the readers to understand the emotional world of
Alison s childhood. First, she purposely positioned the point of view just behind her younger self; this
allows the reader to observe Bruce almost through her own eyes while still watching the TV show.
The zoom difference creates an impression of spatial disconnect between the father and the daughter.
Second, the big TV set projects The Rifleman, with gun shots and cowboy hats. Young Alison is
sitting right in front of the TV, subconsciously defending it from her father. ... Show more content on

can force her to wear a barrette, he has no lasting positive influence on her character. He is the

Summary Of Jim Casy A Journey To California
The story begins with Tom Joad hitchhiking with a truck driver, to whom he reveals that he has been
released on parole from the state penitentiary. While walking along a desolate road, he encounters a
man named Jim Casy who is a preacher Tom remembers from his childhood. Casy explains to Tom
why he is no longer a preacher because he has supposedly lost his dosage of the Holy Spirit. He still
believes in the Holy Spirit, but not consequently the traditional expectations mandated by organized
religion. Instead, Casy argues, the Holy Spirit is love not just the love of God or Jesus, but the love of
all mankind.
Tom invites Casy to join him on his walk home, only to find it completely deserted. A man named
Muley Graves, who is one of the family s neighbors, tells Tom that his family has been forced off of
their land by the bank, which owns the land. The Joads have temporarily moved in with his Uncle
John and are preparing to leave for California to search for work. The three men spend the night in a
cave near the abandoned farm and travel to Uncle John s house the next morning.
The entire family is preparing for the long journey ahead to California when Tom and Casy arrive.
Casy asks the Joads if he can travel west with them and they agree to take him in the hopes of a
potential blessing. Once all of their possessions have been sold to junkyards and used car lots,
everyone except for Granpa Joad is anxious to begin the journey. As they begin pack the truck Granpa

Essay on John Locke s Second Treatise on Civil Government
Locke s The Second Treatise of Civil Government: The Significance of Reason
The significance of reason is discussed both in John Locke s, The Second
Treatise of Civil Government, and in Jean Jacques Rousseau s, Emile. However, the definitions that
both authors give to the word reason vary significantly.
I will now attempt to compare the different meanings that each man considered to be the accurate
definition of reason.
John Locke believed that the state all men are naturally in ... is a state of perfect freedom (122), a state
in which they live without ... depending upon the will of any other man (122). It is called the the state

Reason is not flexible because it is God s law and it is set in stone.
This reason gives you the social contract, leading to life, liberty, and happiness. To Locke, it is crucial
for men to enter into the social contract as soon as possible. Since we are born into the state of nature
in which the law of reason governs us, it is easy for us to enter into society when we are young.
This is because that very society is based on reason, not upon feelings or intuition. When men leave
their state of nature and conform to society and the government, they give up their right to punish
others, as they see fit. Instead, the social contract exists to protect people from those who transgress by
inflicting due punishment to offenders through the force of the government.
Since every person mutually agrees to live amongst the rules of the contract, it protects the good of the
majority. The government thus works to benefit the good of the people.
The best kinds of government, Locke believed, are absolute monarchies, because they don t take their
citizens out of the state of nature. Societies, in fact, are in a form of the state of nature, themselves, so
people don t have to give up their rights to reason by entering into the social contract.
Reason still exists where conformity flourishes. It doesn t diminish but is actually enhanced by the
merging of natural law (fundamental law) and positive law (the law of the majority of others).

Types Of Business Entity For A Business
Of all the choices you make when starting a business, one of the most important is the type of business
entity you select for your company. Not only will this decision have an impact on how much you pay
in taxes, it will affect the amount of paperwork your business is required to do, the personal liability
you face and your ability to raise money. It s not a decision to be entered into lightly, either, or one
that should be made without sound counsel from business experts. Kalish says it s important for
business owners to seek expert advice from business professionals when considering the pros and cons
of various business entities . The business entity I have chosen for my business is sole proprietorship. I
don t want to be responsible if someone else makes a bad chose for the company. I want to run my
business my way. If anything goes wrong it is completely my fault not anyone else s. Types of
Business Entities The type of business entity you choose will depend on three primary factors:
liability, taxation and record keeping. Here s a quick look at the differences between the most common
forms of business entities: A sole proprietorship is the most common form of business organization. It
s easy to form and offers complete managerial control to the owner. However, the owner is also
personally liable for all financial obligations of the business. A partnership involves two or more

that they are generally indiscriminate and do not necessarily have a selected target. The victims of

Aphorisms In The Picture Of Dorian Gray
The English language consists of a wide variety of figurative speech, and authors often make use of
this in order to embellish and enhance their works. Oscar Wilde, one of the most daring writers of the
nineteenth century, exemplifies this writing approach. His most notable technique is the use of
aphorisms a concise judgement that contains a general truth throughout his pieces, particularly in The
Importance of Being Earnest and The Picture of Dorian Gray. The phrases are often thoughts or
dialogue from the characters, the majority of whom live in the English upper class society during the
Victorian era, and comment on a range of subjects concerning this culture. Wilde s aphorisms can
often be overlooked as shallow or simplistic, but in reality, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The aphorism not only opens the discussion, but it also identifies the problem with the society being
addressed in the subsequent text. In this case, Wilde points out that instead of mending the bothersome
rules of the English, upper class society, individuals choose instead to find ways to break these rules
and escape the consequences. Such ideas continue in the plot of The Picture of Dorian Gray, which
relies on Lord Henry s aphorism and Dorian Gray s response to it, Youth! There is absolutely nothing
in the world but youth! Dorian Gray listened, open eyed and wondering... If it were I who was to be
always young, and the picture that was to grow old!...I would give my soul for that! (The Picture of
Dorian Gray 24, 28) to initiate the central plot. Lord Henry s aphorism, along with his subsequent
dialogue, affects Dorian so greatly that he sells his soul to stay young and beautiful forever. The rest of
the plot, instigated by this one simple phrase, exemplifies Wilde s cynical views on the worship of
youth with Dorian s demise at the conclusion of the novel. Dorian s death and Jack and Algernon s
Bunburying, although seemingly disparate, both represent issues in the English upper class that Wilde
begins to address through an

From Movements to Parties in Latin America. The Evolution...
The author analyzes how indigenous people s movements in Latin America transformed into viable
political parties. For her, these new parties are good for the democracy because they enrich and
enhance the legitimacy of the political and electoral system. She assumes that the primary link
between state and society are the parties and its accountability impact on the institutions. She proves
that the crisis of the traditional parties and the transformation of the historical electoral constrains
were determinant factors that contributed to ethnic party formation and consolidation. Van Cott
conclusions were based on the study of six countries: Bolivia, Ecuador, Colombia, and Venezuela as
successful cases, and Peru and Argentina as failed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, the asked question is under which conditions ethnic parties tended to merge and to endure?
To untangle this question the book uses primary and secondary sources. The primary ones are the
result of several years of field work in situ in the mentioned countries, except Argentina; and the
secondary ones are an exhaustive review of the scholarly over democratic regimes and electoral
systems, political parties and ethnic parties, and social movements in the international and national
levels. While doing this, she builds her own basic category of analysis: the ethnic party. An ethnic
party is defined as any political organization with a strong ethnic component: ethnic leaders, majority
of ethnic members, or have ethnic or cultural related core demands. Within these strictures, she
explores intrinsic and external reasons for party formation. When the indigenous communities realize
that they could keep their traditions, their land, and basically, their autonomy, and at the same time be
politically independent not a convenient minority for the left or for the dominant parties; they were
internally ready to face the changes coming from the outside. This consolidation process takes
approximately four to ten years when the social movement shapes itself and recognizes its capacity
and political possibilities. The external circumstances got more attention from the author. The

Food Hormones and the Onset of Early Puberty
Hormones found in food is causing early puberty in adolescents. In recent news article published by
NBC News an eight year old girl started developing acne and breast. Her parents didn t know how to
cope with their daughter maturing at such an early age so they decided to take her to the doctor. There
the little girl was diagnosed with early puberty and had to be treated with drug implants to slow down
her sudden growth. Recent studies have shown that meat industry animals injected with synthetic
growth hormones such as Zeranol, Trenbolone, and Melengestrol that leads to negatives effects to the
people that consume the foods that the animals produce. Some of these hormones found in animals
can throw off the natural chemical balance and affect your hormones. If children are consuming these
foods with added hormones their natural balance may be thrown off which causes them to endure
early puberty. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) steroid implants used for
animal growth are healthy for the animals and humans who eat the meat produced from the
slaughtered animals. The FDA reports People are not at risk from eating food from animals treated
with these drugs because the amount of additional hormone following drug treatment is very small

animals and that are naturally produced in the human body. (par.3) If people are not at risk then why

In captivity, they are limited to the distance they are allowed to swim. They travel in small, repetitive

When placed in an arena with restricted walls, the vibrations from their calls bounce off the pool s

Grice s Cooperative Principle And Kinds Of Pragmatics...
This chapter explains an overview of related theories, which are the pragmatics theory by George Yule
including the Grice s cooperative principle and kinds of maxim according to Grice.
2.1 Pragmatics
According to Yule (1996), pragmatics is concerned with the study of meaning as communicated by a
speaker (or writer) and interpreted by a listener (or reader). Pragmatics focuses more on how we
achieve meaning in a particular context, by considering such factors as how, where and when
something is said, who says it, what is the relationship between the speaker and the listener, and how
we understand the use of ambiguous language (Baker and Ellece, 2011, p.100). In other words,
pragmatics is the study of speaker meaning. Therefore, from the ... Show more content on

67). In other words, flouting the maxim of quality occurs when a speaker says something which needs
to be considered as blatantly untrue. For example: Mark : Great, that s really great! That s made my
Christmas!
Mark is a speaker who says something which is considered as blatantly untrue, because at that time, he
got accident on the day, and he wishes it will be happiness day. He became upset that made him say
something which is blatantly untrue. So, the speaker blatantly fails to observe a maxim in order to lead
the hearer to look for implied meaning or in this situation the hearer already knows that Mark says the
opposite.
2.1.2.3 Flouting Maxim of Relation
Thomas (1996) said that the maxim of relation is exploited by making a response or observation
which is very obviously irrelevant to the topic in hand (p.70). So, the speaker flouts the maxim of
relation if his/her contribution is not relevant. For

The Effects Of Socioeconomics On Children s Children
Imagine a boy that has been teased mercilessly by his peers throughout his schooling because of his
clothes and his free and reduced lunch status. He is constantly under pressure from peers to have the
newest and niftiest gadgets; nevertheless, his mother cannot afford to provide food and permanent
housing, much less, these extra luxuries. Therefore, he has to comprise with what his mother can
afford. She tries to provide for her children and wants to offer them the world. Nonetheless, due to her
economic situation, she cannot provide her for children adequately; they are forced to ask for aid from
the government, close family, and friends. This situation brings light to the turmoil that
socioeconomics brings upon children and that they need to endure to survive in this society. When it
comes to socioeconomics, children are the utmost affected. Socioeconomics has long term effects,
prevalently distresses children in school and in development. Through my friend s experience that he
has shared with me, it has allowed me to notice the harrowing effects that socioeconomics has on
children. First, one may ask exactly what is socioeconomic status and other terms that surround this
issue? Socioeconomic status can be defined as an overall ranking of a person s position in society
based on income, education, and occupation (Benokraitis, 2014, p. 142). Socioeconomic status can
further be simplified in saying it is a classification system that is forced upon all people within a

While making the soup for all the soldiers, Francine poisoned the general. She took it to his office

Lab Report On Hydrogen Peroxide
Hydrogen Peroxide
Rate of Reaction

BIOL133
Abstract
The reason for conducting this lab is discover is changing hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) concentration
will affect the rate of reaction. During the experiment, the H2O2 rate will be changed and pressure
will be measured using a gas pressure sensor. The data suggests that as the hydrogen peroxide
concentration increases, the rate of diffusion increases and that my hypothesis is valid.
Introduction
Hydrogen peroxide is a by product of biochemical metabolism. The accumulation of hydrogen
peroxide can be deadly, so it must be decomposed. One of the decomposing factors is an enzyme
called Catalase. Catalase breaks hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen. Since this is a
decomposition reaction, it is exothermic. Hydrogen peroxide can gradually degenerate itself, it
decomposes much faster with the help of Catalase which lowers the activation energy to the minimum
energy barrier that hydrogen peroxide molecules should overcome to decompose.

Elementary Classroom Observation
This paper will look at boys behaviour in an elementary school classroom from an education
professional standpoint. Specifically, how to modify the aggressive behaviour of boys who speak out
of turn in class. It will look at the effect that behaviour specific praise has on aggressive behaviour.
Multiple forms of differential reinforcement will also be examined in regards to how to transform a
boy who acts out for attention into a boy who understands his behaviour is not necessary. Differences
between girls and boys in an elementary school classroom will also be considered. Through this
process teacher, child and the rest of the class will benefit. This paper will begin with ideas for general
classroom management and then narrow down ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main behaviour issue that she would like Austin to work on is not speaking out in class. She
would like him to raise his hand before he speaks. In Ms. Walker s class, the students are encouraged
to raise their hand anytime they have something to say, a question to ask, or a request for the teacher.
Since the beginning of the school year, Austin has repeatedly disobeyed this rule. It is posted in the
front of the classroom, and Ms. Walker consistently reminds Austin of this, but he forgets. He is not a
typical bad student. He does not do this simply for the fun of it he actually forgets to raise his hand.
He has a thought and immediately wants to act on that thought. He comes from a broken home: his
father left the family when Austin was seven. His mother struggles while working two jobs. Austin
goes to the before and after school program the school offers. His mother is loving towards all four of
her children, but Austin does occasionally get neglected. He has less than ideal self esteem and is
difficult to motivate. When instructed on a one to one basis, Austin is able to complete tasks with
moderate difficulty. Ms. Walker does not have an Educational Assistant in her class, but she does
make an effort to instruct Austin individually there are other needs in her class that take priority over
this one. Behaviour specific praise for Austin

Dr. Phil s Short Story
Dr. Phil loved the earth s layers. He spent every minute of his life reading theories and watching
videos about them and he always wanted to see the layers. One day, he finally made his drill that could

pressure and cooling suit and set out. As he drilled down he could feel the pressure getting stronger
and stronger.
He got deeper and deeper and came down right in front of Crusty s face. Crusty was in the middle of

Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome Phenotypes
Investigation As stated in the introduction there are multiple ways in which a gene can and does
mutate. Some go unnoticed for the affected individual s life. Others, like cancer causing mutations, are
detrimental and occasionally deadly. These mutations are either categorized as somatic or hereditary
and each effect individuals in different manners. Somatic mutations are acquired. This means they
happen later in life, cannot be passed down, and only affect certain cells. Hereditary mutations are
inherited from parents and can continue for generations. They affect almost every cell in the body and
are with the affected individual for life. With androgen insensitivity the inheritance pattern is X linked
recessive making it hereditary and passed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While there are three phenotypes for androgen insensitivity, for the purpose of this particular paper,
the complete androgen insensitivity syndrome phenotype will be the one elaborated upon. The typical
phenotype for someone with androgen insensitivity is hyper feminization of a male (with XY sex
chromosomes) to the point where the genitalia are not masculine and may contain elementary
müllerian structures (Gottlieb et al. 1999). The male embryo should produce a protein in the womb
known as the Anti Müllerian hormone which is facilitated by the AMH gene a cluster of proteins that
ensures sex differentiation occurs in fetal development. It is entirely possible that a male embryo does
not release the Anti Müllerian hormone because the testis are not suppressing the müllerian structures.
In turn the wolffian ducts, structures that include the epididymis, vas deferens, and seminal vesicles,
only partially die. Partially is used here because there are both male and female characteristics
presented by those with androgen insensitivity. AMH should interact with the Anti Müllerian hormone
receptors to target the Müllerian ducts and kill the structures. Without the supressment rudimentary
Müllerian structures begin to present themselves, since the embryo is genetically male and has more
development to do to characterize itself as such the structures do not get fully finished. These
structures would hold the ability to produce female characteristics as they would need to serve their
purpose in the

Many immigrants feel like it is a challenge to be accepted into another country. Some minorities feel

both countries are not considering minorities to be important in another country. Even though they don

Sonny s Character In The Rocket Boys
My favorite character in Rocket Boys is Sonny s father, Homer Hickman. This may seem like an odd
choice, given that Sonny s father is not always kind to Sonny, and often hinders him. Other times,
however, he helps Sonny greatly. For example, in the beginning of the story, he pours Sonny s
chemicals down the creek and forbids Sonny from launching rockets on company property.
Afterwards, he shows Sonny an area where he is allowed to launch rockets, the place that becomes
Cape Coalwood. Everything Sonny s father does often contradicts something done or said earlier in
the book, which seems at first to be very confusing.
These actions, however, all have a simple explanation. Sonny s father has two loves in his life: his
family and his mine. Additionally,

James Graham Conscientiousness
Introduction Aubrey Drake Graham is a 30 year old Canadian born rapper, singer, songwriter, and
actor. His openness appears with his adventurousness and indiscrimination of other artists who have
criminal records. Furthermore, he shows his neuroticism with difficulty to find his relationship
partner. On the other hand, high rank on the Billboard chart and graduation from his high school with
determination despite his tough and rough incidents in his past show his conscientiousness. Regarding
his success as an artist, we will discuss three aspects of his personality using Big Five Personality Test
a type of test that examines different taxonomies that all the individuals have: Openness,

Morally Ambiguous Character In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
In the novel Frankenstein by Mary Shelley the creation can be viewed as a morally ambiguous
character. When the creature was given life he was benevolent and never wanted to inflict harm on

much hate towards his creator he wanted him dead. The creature was molded to be a depressed and
angry person who wanted to bring pain to those who hurt him but mostly Victor. The creature s actions

Compare And Contrast The Hobbit Book And Movie

afterwards I watched the movie, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. The Hobbit is about a hobbit,

from the dragon Smaug for the a group of dwarves. Along the way, he gets a magic ring from a
creature called Gollum. The Hobbit and its movie are similar and different from each other in a variety
of ways. The elements and ideas of the book are similar to the movie by in the book and movie Bilbo
is reluctant about adventuring, but gains confidence over the adventure, and the start of the adventure
being similar. First, Bilbo starts out reluctant, but gains confidence and courage over time when told of
the adventure in the book and movie. In the book on page 27, Don t be a fool, Bilbo Baggins! he said
to himself, thinking of dragons and all that outlandish nonsense at your age! The examples display
Bilbo being reluctant to go on the adventure, but then developing courage and confidence by doing
more daunting and dangerous tasks which is shown in both the book and movie. Second, the start of
the adventure are both similar in the book and movie. In the book in chapter 1, Gandalf comes to

Video Headset With Directional Sound Technology Essay
A. Executive Summary: Lars Inman, CEO of RLK Media, needs to make a decision on how to
develop the iVid. This video headset with directional sound technology has the potential to
revolutionize the consumer electronics industry. Although recently RLK Media has been struggling
against the competition and has seen their margins evaporate. With the company s declining
performance the board of directors has threatened to find a replacement CEO, making Lars decision
all the more critical. He is being pressured by his R D department to invest $6 million to hire software
engineers and produce iVid internally. However, the optimal option is for RLK Media to outsource the
R D of iVid to Inova. Not only will it strength the company s margins, it guarantees that they obtain a

B. Industry Dynamics: RLK Media is known for producing high quality, American made products in

Dodd Frank As An Effective Measure Against
After more than seven years after the financial crisis, there is a great debate among
politicians and economists as to what the best policies are to prevent such a catastrophe from
happening again. So in the aftermath of the financial meltdown, Congress passed the Dodd
Frank Act which brought in multitude of financial stipulations and rules that were aimed at
avoiding another disaster. There are some who see Dodd Frank as an effective measure against
the causes that led to the 2008 crisis. They view Dodd Frank as a comprehensive and powerful
tool to curtail systemic risk. On the other hand, there are critics who see Dodd Frank as a
symbolic piece of legislation that does nothing more than give lip service to those who demand
more stringent regulations. After a careful examination of the Dodd Frank, it can be shown that
Dodd Frank is not a symbolic piece of legislation, but a law that will give the government the
ability to mitigate the chances of systemic risk from tanking the financial system.
When discussing symbolic pieces of legislation, one must clearly mark the line that
differentiates symbolic laws from effective ones. Symbolic laws can be described as those that
are enacted with much publicity, but that are not truly designed to accomplish their purported
goals (Suarez 5). Essentially, when laws are passed they should do more than talk about the
problems but must actually give the ways in which the laws will deal with the problems. Now,
the issue

  • 4. Street Gangs And Its Effects On The Minds Of Today s Youth Street gangs have played a major role in the minds of today s youth. For some youth, joining a gang is considered to be a rite of passage. Most youth join gangs to have a sense of brotherhood and sisterhood, to be accepted, to feel protected, and to feel like they belong (Violent Prevent Institute, 2016). In most cases, they look up to the older men or women in gangs for guidance not realizing that in most cases, the older people who are in the gang joined for the same reasons (Violent Prevent Institute, 2016). In most city neighborhoods, joining a gang is the urban equivalent of joining the Cub Scouts or a Brownie troop in the suburbs. For a lot of the older gang members, it is a matter of simple economics. They often cannot find legal work and certainly nothing that pays nearly as well as selling drugs and committing crimes (Violent Prevent Institute, 2016). Youth want to have the same flashy lifestyle that provides them with expensive clothing, drugs, sex, and respect (Violent Prevent Institute, 2016). Gang violence is something that affects us all in many ways. A lot of people are terrified of gang violence. With every wrong decision, there could be major consequences following it. In the United States, there is estimated to be over 1.5 million people in gangs and roughly 35,000 different gangs operating. Some recognizable gangs are Gangster Disciples, Black Disciples, Bloods, Crips, Two Six, and Latin Kings (Hagan, 2016). Among those gangs are other street gangs, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Once the crowd reached the Edmund Pettus Bridge, they were stopped short by Alabama State Troopers. Joanne s grip tightened around her teacher s hands. On the morning of March 7, 1969, the Selma March started. Stopped Short Only a short time after, John Lewis and Hosea Williams led the crowd out of the church, starting with high hope. The group of protesters marched through Selma in pairs. Their minds were set on getting to Montgomery to confront the governor. As they were about to cross the Edmund Pettus they were stopped short by Alabama State troopers. Go home or go to your church! shouted one of the head State Troopers. The mob knew if they didn t move they would be beaten, but they stood strong and prepared themselves for the worst. The troopers threatened to attack if they did not move soon. Exactly one minute and five seconds later, the troopers charged. The crowd was violently beaten with billy sticks and forced to inhale the toxic tear gas. The group attacking them did not show any pity as they repeatedly struck and pounded most of the nonviolent protesters as they attempted to scrambled away. The violent officers chased them halfway back to the Brown Chapel. More than 90 innocent people were sent to the hospital shortly after. Only two days later, the crowd gathered once again in the church and prayed. They prayed for freedom and for their loved ones to heal soon. • 7. Aristocrat Organizational Structure The capacity of an organization to survive in the present, intricate and competitive business environment is strongly grounded on the nimbleness and flexibility of the established organizational structure (Shafieem Razminia Zeymaran, 2016). Furthermore, the effectiveness of the organizational structure is a significant aspect of obtaining a competitive advantage in the industry. Unfortunately, at Aristocrat, the establish structure is ineffective and creates a cumbersome environment and therefore acts in a preventive manner rather than as a source of competitive advantage. It shows a dramatic disconnect in the family, the caption referring to it as a chink in my family s armor. In the foreground, Alison is sitting in front of the TV set, while in the background her father is busy dusting plastic flowers. There are many important details in the frame that help the readers to understand the emotional world of Alison s childhood. First, she purposely positioned the point of view just behind her younger self; this allows the reader to observe Bruce almost through her own eyes while still watching the TV show. The zoom difference creates an impression of spatial disconnect between the father and the daughter. Second, the big TV set projects The Rifleman, with gun shots and cowboy hats. Instead, Casy argues, the Holy Spirit is love not just the love of God or Jesus, but the love of all mankind. Tom invites Casy to join him on his walk home, only to find it completely deserted. A man named Muley Graves, who is one of the family s neighbors, tells Tom that his family has been forced off of their land by the bank, which owns the land. The Joads have temporarily moved in with his Uncle John and are preparing to leave for California to search for work. The three men spend the night in a cave near the abandoned farm and travel to Uncle John s house the next morning. The entire family is preparing for the long journey ahead to California when Tom and Casy arrive. Casy asks the Joads if he can travel west with them and they agree to take him in the hopes of a potential blessing. Essay on John Locke s Second Treatise on Civil Government Locke s The Second Treatise of Civil Government: The Significance of Reason The significance of reason is discussed both in John Locke s, The Second Treatise of Civil Government, and in Jean Jacques Rousseau s, Emile. This reason gives you the social contract, leading to life, liberty, and happiness. To Locke, it is crucial for men to enter into the social contract as soon as possible. Since we are born into the state of nature in which the law of reason governs us, it is easy for us to enter into society when we are young. This is because that very society is based on reason, not upon feelings or intuition. When men leave their state of nature and conform to society and the government, they give up their right to punish others, as they see fit. Instead, the social contract exists to protect people from those who transgress by inflicting due punishment to offenders through the force of the government. Since every person mutually agrees to live amongst the rules of the contract, it protects the good of the majority. The government thus works to benefit the good of the people. The best kinds of government, Locke believed, are absolute monarchies, because they don t take their citizens out of the state of nature. Societies, in fact, are in a form of the state of nature, themselves, so people don t have to give up their rights to reason by entering into the social contract. Reason still exists where conformity flourishes. It doesn t diminish but is actually enhanced by the merging of natural law (fundamental law) and positive law (the law of the majority of others). Not only will this decision have an impact on how much you pay in taxes, it will affect the amount of paperwork your business is required to do, the personal liability you face and your ability to raise money. It s not a decision to be entered into lightly, either, or one that should be made without sound counsel from business experts. • 14. Aphorisms In The Picture Of Dorian Gray The English language consists of a wide variety of figurative speech, and authors often make use of this in order to embellish and enhance their works. Oscar Wilde, one of the most daring writers of the nineteenth century, exemplifies this writing approach. His most notable technique is the use of aphorisms a concise judgement that contains a general truth throughout his pieces, particularly in The Importance of Being Earnest and The Picture of Dorian Gray. The phrases are often thoughts or dialogue from the characters, the majority of whom live in the English upper class society during the Victorian era, and comment on a range of subjects concerning this culture. The aphorism not only opens the discussion, but it also identifies the problem with the society being addressed in the subsequent text. In this case, Wilde points out that instead of mending the bothersome rules of the English, upper class society, individuals choose instead to find ways to break these rules and escape the consequences. Such ideas continue in the plot of The Picture of Dorian Gray, which relies on Lord Henry s aphorism and Dorian Gray s response to it, Youth! There is absolutely nothing in the world but youth! Dorian Gray listened, open eyed and wondering... If it were I who was to be always young, and the picture that was to grow old!...I would give my soul for that! (The Picture of Dorian Gray 24, 28) to initiate the central plot. Lord Henry s aphorism, along with his subsequent dialogue, affects Dorian so greatly that he sells his soul to stay young and beautiful forever. The rest of the plot, instigated by this one simple phrase, exemplifies Wilde s cynical views on the worship of youth with Dorian s demise at the conclusion of the novel. For her, these new parties are good for the democracy because they enrich and enhance the legitimacy of the political and electoral system. She assumes that the primary link between state and society are the parties and its accountability impact on the institutions. She proves that the crisis of the traditional parties and the transformation of the historical electoral constrains were determinant factors that contributed to ethnic party formation and consolidation. To untangle this question the book uses primary and secondary sources. The primary ones are the result of several years of field work in situ in the mentioned countries, except Argentina; and the secondary ones are an exhaustive review of the scholarly over democratic regimes and electoral systems, political parties and ethnic parties, and social movements in the international and national levels. While doing this, she builds her own basic category of analysis: the ethnic party. An ethnic party is defined as any political organization with a strong ethnic component: ethnic leaders, majority of ethnic members, or have ethnic or cultural related core demands. Within these strictures, she explores intrinsic and external reasons for party formation. When the indigenous communities realize that they could keep their traditions, their land, and basically, their autonomy, and at the same time be politically independent not a convenient minority for the left or for the dominant parties; they were internally ready to face the changes coming from the outside. This consolidation process takes approximately four to ten years when the social movement shapes itself and recognizes its capacity and political possibilities. Pragmatics focuses more on how we achieve meaning in a particular context, by considering such factors as how, where and when something is said, who says it, what is the relationship between the speaker and the listener, and how we understand the use of ambiguous language (Baker and Ellece, 2011, p.100). Lab Report On Hydrogen Peroxide Hydrogen Peroxide Rate of Reaction By Kevin Frappier 10/15/2017 BIOL133 Abstract The reason for conducting this lab is discover is changing hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) concentration will affect the rate of reaction. During the experiment, the H2O2 rate will be changed and pressure will be measured using a gas pressure sensor. The data suggests that as the hydrogen peroxide concentration increases, the rate of diffusion increases and that my hypothesis is valid. Introduction Hydrogen peroxide is a by product of biochemical metabolism. The accumulation of hydrogen peroxide can be deadly, so it must be decomposed. One of the decomposing factors is an enzyme called Catalase. Catalase breaks hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen. Since this is a decomposition reaction, it is exothermic. Hydrogen peroxide can gradually degenerate itself, it decomposes much faster with the help of Catalase which lowers the activation energy to the minimum energy barrier that hydrogen peroxide molecules should overcome to decompose. This means they happen later in life, cannot be passed down, and only affect certain cells. Hereditary mutations are inherited from parents and can continue for generations. The typical phenotype for someone with androgen insensitivity is hyper feminization of a male (with XY sex chromosomes) to the point where the genitalia are not masculine and may contain elementary müllerian structures (Gottlieb et al. 1999). The male embryo should produce a protein in the womb known as the Anti Müllerian hormone which is facilitated by the AMH gene a cluster of proteins that ensures sex differentiation occurs in fetal development. It is entirely possible that a male embryo does not release the Anti Müllerian hormone because the testis are not suppressing the müllerian structures. In turn the wolffian ducts, structures that include the epididymis, vas deferens, and seminal vesicles, only partially die. Partially is used here because there are both male and female characteristics presented by those with androgen insensitivity. • 32. Sonny s Character In The Rocket Boys My favorite character in Rocket Boys is Sonny s father, Homer Hickman. This may seem like an odd choice, given that Sonny s father is not always kind to Sonny, and often hinders him. Other times, however, he helps Sonny greatly. For example, in the beginning of the story, he pours Sonny s chemicals down the creek and forbids Sonny from launching rockets on company property. Afterwards, he shows Sonny an area where he is allowed to launch rockets, the place that becomes Cape Coalwood. Everything Sonny s father does often contradicts something done or said earlier in the book, which seems at first to be very confusing. These actions, however, all have a simple explanation. Dodd Frank As An Effective Measure Against After more than seven years after the financial crisis, there is a great debate among politicians and economists as to what the best policies are to prevent such a catastrophe from happening again. So in the aftermath of the financial meltdown, Congress passed the Dodd Frank Act which brought in multitude of financial stipulations and rules that were aimed at avoiding another disaster. There are some who see Dodd Frank as an effective measure against the causes that led to the 2008 crisis. They view Dodd Frank as a comprehensive and powerful tool to curtail systemic risk. On the other hand, there are critics who see Dodd Frank as a symbolic piece of legislation that does nothing more than give lip service to those who demand more stringent regulations. After a careful examination of the Dodd Frank, it can be shown that Dodd Frank is not a symbolic piece of legislation, but a law that will give the government the ability to mitigate the chances of systemic risk from tanking the financial system.
