Poetry Form Essay
Poems are a form of writing with a set meter. Most poems have an end rhyme scheme to accompany
the meter. Poems, like short stories, have symbols. Although short story symbols were not the easiest
to identify, the symbols in poems are sometimes even harder to determine. Poems also include
metaphors, imagery, a certain tone, and always have a set audience. Lyrics are the most obvious type
of poetry to date. A song has a rhythm and when the lyrics are sung to the beat a poem is created.
Lyrics are not the only form of poetry. There are many different forms poetry can take on. Sonnets are
probably the second most known form of poetry. Sonnets are made up of 14 lines, have end rhyme,
and have a meter. There are two main forms of a sonnet; Shakespearean (English) and Petrarchan
(Italian).
The Italian sonnet was created by a man named Petrarch in the 14th century. This sonnet is made up of
an octave (8 lines) and a sestet (6 lines) adding up to the sonnets grand total of 14 lines. A Volta, or
dramatic change in the emotion, comes after the octave. The theme of the Petrarchan sonnet can
generally be found within the ending sestet. Two centuries later a new type of sonnet was born. The
Shakespearean sonnet was created by none other than the late William Shakespeare. The English
sonnet is made up of three quatrains (4 lines) and an ending couplet (2 lines) creating the iconic 14
lines. The Volta comes after the 3rd quatrain leaving the couplet as the space for the poems theme.

This campaign supports Dove s mission: to make more women feel beautiful every day by widening
stereotypical views of beauty. By reading the mission, we can become conscious of the bright and
marvelous idea behind the campaign. According to the survey results, only 2% of women considered
themselves beautiful. This is because they compare themselves against a very specific standard of
beauty, which only few people fit (for example, supermodels). Leaving aside marketing and
commercial efforts, it is a fact that there is no product in the world that can make miracles happen; this
means that no body cream or beauty product can change a normal woman into a supermodel. As a
result, the strategy of Unilever was to bring down the measurement line (or widen the definition) by
telling the world a revolutionary idea linked to the Dove Brand, beauty comes in all sizes, colors and
shapes . Unilever got as result more women feeling attractive, which have now a bond with the brand
behind the revolution. Debunking Stereotypes Launched in 2004, the ad campaign featured real
women whose appearances are outside the stereotypical norms of beauty. The ads asked viewers to
judge women s looks (Oversized? Outstanding? Wrinkled? Wonderful?) and invited them to cast their
votes on www.campaignforrealbeauty.com. In 2005, Dove launched the second phase of this
advertising, showing six real women with real bodies and real curves, which was created to discredit
the stereotype that only

As I write this paper, I notice how my life is entirely dependent on the internet. I am writing this paper
on Google Docs, on a chromebook, while I stream music online, check facebook every ten minutes,
and even pay my bills online. Internet has taken the world by storm. The internet, which celebrated its
25th century in 2014, started as an idea in 1961. However, the internet as we know it, started with the
development of HTML by Tim Berners Lee in 1990.
In 1989, Tim Berners Lee, whose parents had previously worked on the world s first commercially
built computer Ferranti Mark 1, developed an information management system and successfully
implemented communication between an HTTP client and server (McPherson, 2009).. Since then, he
has been at the forefront of innovation and has championed the cause of increasing internet
accessibility. He graduated first class from Queen s College, Oxford with a degree in physics. He
started his career with CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research) where he first started
developing hypertext projects. Upon gaining success with his hypertext mini projects, he went on to
integrate HTTP with the internet and created the world s first web browser and website at CERN ( Tim

Patrick Suskind Essay
Oppositional structures in the postmodern world of Perfume masks the truth and exposes the lies.
Through many literary devices and religious elements, the author Patrick Suskind employs
postmodern messages. The use of postmodernist mockery exposes the lies, and the enlightenment era
characteristics mask the truth. Enlightenment and romantic era characteristics also preserve styles
from the era in which the novel takes place: mid to late 1700 s. Suskind hides the truth internally,
within the knowledge of the narrator and exposes the lies to a relevant audience to convince the reader
to diminish conventional values. Characteristics of enlightenment and romantic era literature include

of Grenouille by Father Terrier. Father Terrier thinks, Away with it! Though Father Terrier, away this

represents the church and immediately rejects a testament. Grenouille later confirms his condemnation
by proclaiming his evil as he plans to rule mankind, And he said to himself that he wanted to do this

Briefing Note on NHS Highland for New Staff Members
National Health Service Highland (NHS Highland) is a public sector organisation and is classed as
being in the Tertiary Sector as it provides a service to the public rather than producing a tangible

Concentric Or Eccentric Training
This article is about the modifications to muscle strength, velocity, and neural activity as well as any
morphological changes subsequently going through either eccentric or concentric training. Eccentric
training has illustrated to have adequately good effects on muscle hypotrophy, strengthening the
muscle, and has made efficient exercises for injured athletes going through rehabilitation. But with
eccentric training it makes lower concentric but vaster eccentric strength enhancements compared
with concentric training, due to eccentric and concentric training providing dissimilar stimuli to the
muscles. An improvement is necessary in obtaining the information of the potential differences of
morphological and neural adaptations in the early stages of eccentric and concentric training in order
to improve musculoskeletal rehabilitation programs and there has been a lack of researching the
effects of resistance training. The purpose of the article is to compare what effects and the differences
six weeks of concentric or eccentric training could possibly do to the ... Show more content on

in muscle thickness and muscle quality even though the eccentric training group performed a heavier

distinction between the two groups is that the eccentric group enhanced their isometric strength with
eccentric exercises. Concentric strength is better in those who trained concentrically and eccentric
strength is better in those who trained eccentrically, which is common sense,

John Cheever s Inner Conflictions
Throughout their lives, each and every person will endure struggles. While these can vary greatly,
each must be handled in the proper way. When it is time to face the music, some people opt to face it
head on, while others choose to take them step by step. Over the course of his battles with marital and
financial issues, John Cheever, author of many short stories and longtime partner of the The New
Yorker decided instead to push these issues out of his mind. By utilizing self delusion he, like many of
his characters, were able to cope with the ever changing world around them, but ultimately leading to
bigger problems in the future. Therefore, John Cheever s inner conflictions in the midst of his
struggles with marriage and finances are mirrored in the actions and words of his characters and the
themes which his stories portray.
Like many of his literary characters, John Cheever began his life in the suburbs, in Quincy,
Massachusetts along with his parents and brother Frederick. The child of well to do parents, Cheever s
father was the owner of a prosperous shoe sale business. They lived comfortably for much of his
childhood, however, during the depression with the economy failing, the business was lost and the
family fell into the clutches of poverty. With no source of income to provide for the family, John
Cheever s mother opened up a gift shop. Having been economically privileged all of his life, he
viewed this chain of events as an abysmal humiliation to the

The Theory Of The Scientific Revolution
In the Scientific Revolution, there occurred a shift in humans thinking from the medieval emphasis on
God s eternal unchanging world, which governed people, the universe, and nature, to an approach that
defined knowledge and understanding as derived from the immutable laws of nature independent of
received truth. Scientists changed the way people think about the world. The gears of the revolution
began to turn when Copernicus questioned the geocentric theory, developing his theory of
heliocentrism. Many scientists use the method of beginning with a question, experimenting, then
falsifying the previous theory. This method of thinking became what is now known as the scientific
method. Scientists impacted all fields of science from cosmology to biology. The fields of
mathematics, chemistry, and medicine were drastically improved because of the scientists in their
fields who discovered new concepts to propell the movement. In all three fields, there was a thirst for
understanding and organization that was answered by the revolutionary new concepts. For chemistry,
it was the development of the scientific method, for mathematics, it was the organization of the
universe, and for medicine, it was the movement towards clinical practices.
Due to prominent mathematicians of the time period, the field of mathematics was expanded because
of the reason that it provided in a socially chaotic time period. In the French language, raison is the
word in french for reason and also the

Essay about Arthurian Romances
Arthurian Romances
The Middle Ages of Europe were governed by a system which is referred to as feudalist. The people
of this system flow together well; society in these times require noble people to set the example for the
younger. The ranks of the noble include counts, lords, knights, kings, queens, etc. These noblemen can
be compared to as dueling politicians; they watch over their communities, keeping everything orderly,
and they fend off any attackers trying to besiege land. The peace keeper of the society is the knight.

To his wife he has total respect and love to give, but he isn t hesitant when telling her to stay put. The
story puts the knight in a high class because he is extremely helpful to the community.

(New York: Penguin Books, 1991) p. 89
The knight prays constantly to his God for protection. He fights others in battles with an extremely
high risk of death, so he likes to profess a faith.
Erec of Lac is honored by his community of Christians for his heroics and courage. His faith is
necessary to keep his beautiful wife. They use religion to establish trust in their relationship to ensure
happiness together.
Knighthood is only developed for the man because women are only seen as maid servants. Authority
feel that a woman cannot possess all the qualities of a knight so they put them to work as maids. The
only women who have high ranks in the feudalist system are those who are married to the noble ranks.
Otherwise, women will marry into poverty where they will remain for the rest of their time.

We see it again when Dred decides to walk time square hand in hand with a Queen Bee Luscious, a
drag queen. In the background we hear a passerby say a statement referring to God. Viewing this
documentary we realize that cross dressing, as a man, is not as acceptable as many would think. Not
just crossing dressing in generally but even not embodying how females should look is deemed as
being deviant.
Society has this spectrum that every individual as soon as they are born is classified into groups. There
are only two categories. On one end you have the masculine males and on the other the girly women.
There is no in between. Even though there are many people who fall into these middle categories. This
is reinforced through media as we see both men and women trying to conform into their assigned
categories. What Drag Kings do is try to break this concept as it is poisonous to women and men who
don t fit in and suffer trying to conform to the social roles placed on them. For example, let s look at
hair. In the documentary we see some females who decided to shave their head hair. Angela says that
female sexuality for many men, not all but many, is linked strongly with hair. If you shave it, it means
that you are denying your female sexuality . It is not just simply shaving your head that is the reason
that you are making a statement. It is the way Angela uses it in her shows that demonstrates

when it came to sports. Field hockey was a popular activity where they would use palm tree branches

sport for Egyptians, especially archery, javelin, and fishing. Not all did these things to hunt, some just
for fun and for competition. The Nile was a good source to fish from and became very helpful. The

Thomas Paine Age Of Reason
The Age of Reason in America was a revolutionary time in this country and American political activist
Thomas Paine had big involvement in this. When the 1700s came to an end so did puritanism in
America., Bbrilliant thinkers and scientists from the 17th century such as Galileo, Newton, Voltaire,
Rousseau, John Locke and many more helped discover new ways of thinking and believing in reason
over faith. This discovery, an evolution in America, helped explain a lot and correct many problems
and conflicts of the past. Citizens of America were believing in reasoning and scientific proof rather
than just living by religion only. Thomas Paine enlightened a whole country with his theories and
belief through his book ¨The Age of Reason¨ and also a new way of believing which was called
Deism. Deism is the belief that the universe is good, and accepting the existence of a creator on the
basis of reason but rejected belief in a supernatural deity who interacts with humankind. ... Show more

in the Age of Reason was instead of Cchristianity overruling all religious beliefs, Deism arises and

The Problem Of Stop And Searches
In addition, as Foucault (1983, in Kelly, 2000, p.466) believed, not everything is bad but everything is
dangerous... if everything is dangerous then we always have something to do and since youth at risk
are considered particularly dangerous, adults have taken it upon themselves to keep these dangerous
risks at a minimum by keeping young people under surveillance in any way possible. The method of
stop and searches has unfortunately resulted in more disputes and complaint from the youth of the
community targeted at constables rather than coalition between the two (Kelly, 2000). As Kelly (2000)
points out, the idea of youth at risk surrounds all activities and behaviour involving young people and
Ogden and Germinario (1988 in Kelly, 2000) go a step further and claim all children are at times
students at risk . Unfortunately, this mentality about young people has not only increased surveillance
around them, but it has, as a result, increased the conflict between young people and adults (Kelly,
2000).
However, when actual students were interviewed about their personal experiences with police,
majority understood the need for the stop and search policy. Russell, Boakye and Hackett (2013)
found that most students were comfortable with the policy being put into practice in certain areas as
this form of overt surveillance reduced the levels of crime in rogue neighbourhoods. Students
welcomed the police presence as it made them feel safer and they admitted that the stop and

Charles Darwin Social Influence
One of the most influential thinkers in science, Charles Darwin was a man with an immense devotion
to pursuing the relationship between himself and the world around him.
In his article on the legacy of Darwin, Burghardt (2009) praised not only Darwin s genuine interest in
culture, human psychology, and all aspects of natural history, but also his behavioral observations and
interpretations of the animals and peoples of the areas he visited (p.103). His inclination to find reason
through observational and exploratory research cemented his contributions to the knowledge of human
development. Darwin s theories are still at the forefront of psychological research, lecture, and debate,

Darwin (1860) never attempted to find a clear location of animal instinct but rather, compared
instincts to malleable, habitual experiences carried across individuals of similar species (p.207). He
concluded that natural selection could play a role in the gradual development of instincts, and
theorized that variations of competing behaviors among different animals result of this phenomenon.
In, The Organism and its Behavior, Krout (1933), relays Darwin s attitudes of instinct, who spoke of
instincts as chains of reflexes but treated them as mental faculties , which impel animals to perform
certain actions (p. 87). Today s ethologists take Darwin s approach to instinct, and emphasize the role
of experience in shaping human behavior. Fear, a trait observed by Darwin in various species of birds,
is certainly an instinctive quality, as may be seen in nestling birds, though it is strengthened by
experience, and by the sight of fear of the same enemy in other animals. But fear of man is slowly
acquired (Darwin, 1860). The natural world, according the Darwin, has a direct effect on the
everchanging traits of an organism, whether habitual or instinctive. The constant shift of
environmental factors influences humans and nonhumans to form habits, and potentially, instincts.
This comparative approach has opened the doors to new ideas about behavior in humans

Bleeding In Red Blood Cells And Platelets
The second portion of blood is made from solid components, both formed and fragmented cells. When
bleeding occurs somewhere in the body, the solid components of the blood each have their own unique
responses as well. These components are Red Blood Cells (RBCs), White Blood Cells (WBCs), and
Platelets. RBCs are formed cells that hold the oxygen within the blood. These cells are made of a
hollow membrane that can hold oxygen and is flexible enough to squeeze through small vessels like
the capillaries. (Tortura 696). When blood loss is significant enough to disturb oxygen transfer to cells,
the body attempts to compensate by mass producing in the skeletal tissue (Red Cross 159). Another
formed cell is the WBCs or leukocytes that hold the primary function of preventing infection in the
blood stream. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
with wounds that have broken through the skin, WBCs will gather around the point of entry to fight
infection and prevent any further damage to systems (Tortura 699). However, in the case of
hemostasis, the most important contributors are the Platelets, cell fragments that are held together with
a membrane (702). As bleeding occurs, various chemicals and enzymes that are contained within
platelets activate, causing the cells to become sticky and encourage accumulation to one another. This
coagulation of platelets at the broken vessel s entry site will eventually form a solid plug, resulting in
effective clotting. . Clotting is essential to stop major bleeding of vessels throughout the body,

horsepower and torque. Thinking that one material will lose more horse power at higher temperatures
than the other, the engineers began running tests with both setups starting with coolant temperatures at

manage your behavior and relationships (Bradberry Jean, 2009). Emotional intelligence was
developed in 1990 and its popularity has grown in the 21st century (Marquis Hutson, 2015). The book
Emotional Intelligence 2.0 outlines four different skills that a person must improve on to increase their
emotional intelligence and the book Working with Emotional Intelligence identifies five different
components of emotional intelligence. Some of the skills from one book and the components of the
other book overlap; however, both of the books bring ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Analysis Of Toni Morrison s Song Of Solomon
Victoria Sirianni Ms. Thompson AP ELA 4 21 July 2015 Song of Solomon Producing the plot with a
vivid image and motive allowed Toni Morrison to incorporate numerous literary works to enhance the
allusions in the story. These specific allusions gave readers a more accurate understanding of certain
aspects of the book. As well as this, readers are capable of searching beyond just the surface of what
the words say. The common use of biblical references and myths, as well as other notations, provide a
more in depth and detailed analyzation throughout the entire novel. To start off, Song of Solomon s
title relates to the biblical book of the same name. This emphasizes that the novel addresses more of
an old aged theme. The bible based book focuses on a conversation between two lovers and Toni s
novel is a celebration of the success of earthly love. Morrison also gives her characters biblical names
in order to match them with the well known figures. These characters not only obtain their original
history, but the history that their name carries in the Bible, as well. For example, the biblical character,
Hagar, is Sarah s handmaiden, who bears Sarah s husband a son and is then banished from his sight.
Similar to the previous one mentioned, Morrison s character is often used by Milkman. He takes
advantage of everything she has to offer and uses it for his own selfish benefits. He seems to regret

as pop, rap, and rock. Many of the beats and rhythms of current day music in Mexico stem from

Visions of The Primitive in Langston Hughes s The Big Sea
Recounting his experiences as a member of a skeleton crew in The Haunted Ship section of his
autobiography The Big Sea (1940), Langston Hughes writes
This rusty tub was towed up the Hudson to Jonas Point a few days after I boarded her and put at
anchor with eighty or more other dead ships of a similar nature, and there we stayed all winter.
...[T]here were no visitors and I almost never went ashore. Those long winter nights with snow
swirling down the Hudson, and the old ships rocking and creaking in the wind, and the ice scraping
and crunching against their sides, and the steam hissing in the radiators were ideal for reading. I read
all the ship s library. (Hughes, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, The Big Sea provides a trenchant commentary on writers such as Carl Van Vechten, whose
novel Nigger Heaven (1926) promoted the associations of Harlem as an atavistic enclave for a
disenfranchised black population.1 Indeed, Hugh M. Gloster describes Nigger Heaven as a sort of
guide book for visitors who went uptown seeking a re creation of the primitive African jungle in the
heart of New York City (Gloster, pp.113 14). This Manhattan neighbourhood north of Central Park,
with its growing population of Southern immigrants, would serve the Nordic author Van Vechten in
much the same way that Africa did Conrad or India did Kipling: as an alien territory, forbidden,
dangerous yet compelling in its intensity. It is ironic that this very conception of Harlem was one of
the key reasons why it was overrun and exploited by sensation seeking white outsiders. Hughes makes
implicit comparisons between the colonial despoliation of African natural resources and the whites
frivolous engagement with Harlem s exotic cabaret nightlife in the 1920s.
Hughes s gesture of throwing his own personal collection of books overboard at the start of The Big
Sea before embarking for Africa as a merchant seaman on the S. S. Malone offers an immediate and
provocative challenge to the

Descriptive Essay On Animals
On October 19th 2017, my classmates and I had the opportunity to visit the Lamar Bruni Vergara
Environmental Center. During our visit, we toured the facility and were privileged to have an
employee inform us on the grand diversity of the species found in our region. Throughout the tour, we
observed and discussed a variety of animals, however in this paper I decided to focus on five: The first
species we encountered during our tour was a bobcat or Lynx rufus. The bobcat s phylum is chordata
and from the class mammalia. It belongs to the order carnivora, which consists of meat eating
organisms. The bobcat then falls under the family, felidae commonly referred to as the family of cats.
Found all throughout North America, from southern Canada to central Mexico, the bobcats can live in
habitats like mountain ranges, prairies, and deserts. These habitats are favorable to bobcats because
they can camouflage with their environment and have more success as hunters. Bobcats are known for
their brown reddish coat with black spots and a few stripes. Apart from their coat which allows them
to camouflage, bobcats are also efficient hunters because of their speed and intelligence. When
approaching its prey, a bobcats tends to creep on its victim and attack once it is close enough. Using
its sharp teeth, claws, and strength, this wildcat can kill prey much larger than its size. Their diet
consists of mostly rabbits, hares, and mice. Aside from those animals, bobcats sometimes prey on

Paul s View On The Law Essay
Paul has used the law in many circumstances throughout his epistles. He also discusses the
implications of the law and its relation to believers. Paul s view on the law has been a conversation
held by many New Testament scholars. Some suggest that Paul s views on the law is inconsistent
throughout the epistles but by a careful analysis will show that his views are complementary rather
than inconsistent. A main issue that Paul argued was that we are justified by faith in Christ and not by
doing the works of the law. Paul view of the law was that nobody can be saved by obedience to the
law but only by faith in Christ can one be saved. Three theological stands that have strong interest
with Paul view of the law are those of Lutheranism, Reformed and The so called New Perspective of
Paul. The Lutheranism believes that it is Paul s belief that Christ abolished the law and that the law is
an argument contrast of the gospel (Crandell 2014). The main role of the law is to display our
hopefulness in efforts of obedience in order to obtain God s acceptance and should cause us to desire
from God a mercy that is only found in Christ. The Reformed view sees salvation as something that is
of grace and not nothing that involves obeying the law but once saved we must only obey the moral
law in order to be pleasing to God (Rosner 2013). Lastly this New Perspective of Paul believers that
Paul s problem with the law was not a matter of salvation being by grace rather

Discrimination In America Pros And Cons
The past eight years have been the most amazing in LGBT+ history. From the repeal of Don t Ask
Don t Tell to the overturning of DOMA, there s no denying that the Obama administration has made
huge strides for LGBT+ people in the United States (Obama Administration Record..., 2014).
Although these advances in policy have made the United States a better place for the LGBT+
community, there is still a lot of work that has to be done to ensure that discrimination is prevented
around the country. With the 2016 national election coming quickly, it is important that the LGBT+
community elect someone who will fight for LGBT+ rights. Unfortunately, there are few candidates

amend the Civil Rights Act of 1964 so that people cannot be discriminated against because of their

Child Deserves a Family Act (BernieSanders.com, HillaryClinton.com, 2016). If passed, this bill
would prevent adoption agencies who are supported by the government from discriminating against
people based on their sexual orientation, gender identity, and marital status. This bill also would not
allow adoption agencies to discriminate against the children based on their sexual orientation or

Bernie have in common. Hillary s website has many more words about this issue, and she even has a
whole fact sheet about what she will do for the LGBT+ community if elected (Hillaryclinton.com,
2016), but Bernie s website says basically the same things, but in fewer words. From just skimming
through the candidates websites, one might think that Hillary is a better choice for the LGBT+
community just because of the sheer amount of content that she has on the issues, but based on some
things she has said and done in the past she might not be the best choice when compared to Bernie

General Studies Writing Class Analysis
At the beginning of the semester I entered General Studies Writing 1110, not knowing what to expect.
I knew the class was solely based on writing and perfecting personal style, but I never anticipated the
valuable information I would learn throughout the course of the year. The only advanced English class
I have taken in high school was English Honors in eighth grade. That class gave me the base
knowledge of writing, grammar and form that has helped me through my four essays in this class.
Starting out, I was not sure what the standard for passing was; even though it was unclear to me what
passing was, I strove for perfection. By the time the second essay came around I realized my writing

It is important to keep the audience in mind when writing the essay to state the proper things, address
the right points and point out valid counterarguments. In my first essay I was not entirely sure how to
write to my desired audience or how to say the right things to appeal to them. I had never heard of or
used logos, pathos or ethos in an essay until this class. Now I understand the importance of
incorporating them. They add an element of realness and honesty to the essay that one would not have
had before using these strategies. One essay that shows the growth of this skill is my Analyzing a
Visual; in this essay I write to environmental activists and society as a whole. When writing this essay,
knowing my audience was mainly environmental activists, I had to make sure I appealed to their
passionate, caring side by using the rhetorical strategy pathos. Using pathos in an essay makes people
feel intense emotions, such as sadness or grief, which makes them want to take further actions and do
anything they can to help the cause being presented. Being able to address specific audiences will
never stop being a valuable skill. I can use it in my future college classes, community and career. It is
important to address the audience when making speeches for the community so they feel a connection
with the speech. Connecting with people will allow

High School And Community Professionalism
For my third and final field log, I will document my observations and experiences in Kennett High
School on March 23, 2017. My main focus will be on the school and community professional branch
of West Chester University s Conceptual Framework.
My idea of school and community professionalism has changed drastically since starting observations
at Kennett High School. Initially, my thoughts on professionalism considered one side of the
educational equation: teachers. It was my belief that teachers uphold the professional standards of the
school; which is partially true. Teachers are responsible for their behavior within the school and must
make sure they present themselves are hard working, ethical professionals concerned for the well ...

Dr. Mc J is a teacher who not only expects students to assume these academic standards but makes
strides to improve students understanding of them. Today (March 23) students gave presentations.
Each group presented a book; the plot, the theme, and who might like this sort of novel. Before
students went to present, she briefed them on the expectations (clear speech, eye contact, hit all points
of assignment etc.). Then she asked them about volunteering to present (Why should you volunteer to
go first?). Volunteering first sets a presentation standard and makes an impression on the instructor.
This helps students in an area that is not necessarily academic, but professional. Of course there were
other helpful instances, like when one student was not comfortable in front of the class. He seemingly
lost his voice. However, Dr. McJ told him to breathe, and take a second. Then she asked him to say at
least one thing for his assigned slides. Nothing more, but nothing less. This encouragement helped the
student to proceed and it showed the teacher s belief that all of her students could achieve. Just this
little push showed me she does not accept students saying I can t because she believes that they can.
A professional learning community is an environment that focuses on collaboration and results.
Students are expected to work together and so are the teachers. The classrooms I have observed are
keen to implement collaborative activities. I have not witnessed

In addition to the idea that the Cullen s express devout loyalty to one another, it is also important to
note that they possess extreme self control in all that they do. Even from the founding days of The
Cullen s, their rule about not eating human flesh demonstrates extreme self control. Every single day
the vampires struggle between their greatest desire, human blood, and peacefully existing in a mortal

Influence Of American Culture On Consumers
In my opinion, I feel that consumers can get too much of a product. American culture of consumerism
appears to be quite addictive. Shopping can become a drug for some. For example, with every new

savings when using coupons. Consumers become fueled with the need to fill a void within their daily
lives. In recent years I have notice the change of coupon use compared to many years ago has become

Rip Van Winkle is the most widely read story in Irving s The Sketchbook of Geoffrey Crayon. The
short story, Rip Van Winkle, is more than just a fairy tale written for children. It is, in fact, a
metaphorically historical account of the early beginnings of the United States political and individual
freedoms from Great Britain, both before, during, and after the American Revolution, yet it is based
off an old tale originating in Germany. To fully understand the context of Rip Van Winkle, one must
understand the period in which the story was written, as well as the author himself. Washington Irving
was born in 1783 at the end of the American Revolution to British parents in Manhattan, New York. At
this time, the idea of being an American , ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

colonies has crumbled away. Rip also learns that the men he used to gossip with at the inn now have
completely different professions or are deceased. His friend Nicholas Vedder has been dead for

the society of his village went from being submissive under the rule of King George the III to entering
into its own form of governance and independence represents America discovering its own unique

  • 2. Poetry Form Essay Poems are a form of writing with a set meter. Most poems have an end rhyme scheme to accompany the meter. Poems, like short stories, have symbols. Although short story symbols were not the easiest to identify, the symbols in poems are sometimes even harder to determine. Poems also include metaphors, imagery, a certain tone, and always have a set audience. Lyrics are the most obvious type of poetry to date. A song has a rhythm and when the lyrics are sung to the beat a poem is created. Lyrics are not the only form of poetry. There are many different forms poetry can take on. Sonnets are probably the second most known form of poetry. Sonnets are made up of 14 lines, have end rhyme, and have a meter. There are two main forms of a sonnet; Shakespearean (English) and Petrarchan (Italian). The Italian sonnet was created by a man named Petrarch in the 14th century. This sonnet is made up of an octave (8 lines) and a sestet (6 lines) adding up to the sonnets grand total of 14 lines. A Volta, or dramatic change in the emotion, comes after the octave. The theme of the Petrarchan sonnet can generally be found within the ending sestet. Two centuries later a new type of sonnet was born. The Shakespearean sonnet was created by none other than the late William Shakespeare. The English sonnet is made up of three quatrains (4 lines) and an ending couplet (2 lines) creating the iconic 14 lines. The Volta comes after the 3rd quatrain leaving the couplet as the space for the poems theme. Both ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This campaign supports Dove s mission: to make more women feel beautiful every day by widening stereotypical views of beauty. By reading the mission, we can become conscious of the bright and marvelous idea behind the campaign. According to the survey results, only 2% of women considered themselves beautiful. This is because they compare themselves against a very specific standard of beauty, which only few people fit (for example, supermodels). Leaving aside marketing and commercial efforts, it is a fact that there is no product in the world that can make miracles happen; this means that no body cream or beauty product can change a normal woman into a supermodel. As a result, the strategy of Unilever was to bring down the measurement line (or widen the definition) by telling the world a revolutionary idea linked to the Dove Brand, beauty comes in all sizes, colors and shapes . Unilever got as result more women feeling attractive, which have now a bond with the brand behind the revolution. Debunking Stereotypes Launched in 2004, the ad campaign featured real women whose appearances are outside the stereotypical norms of beauty. The ads asked viewers to judge women s looks (Oversized? Outstanding? Wrinkled? Wonderful?) and invited them to cast their votes on www.campaignforrealbeauty.com. In 2005, Dove launched the second phase of this advertising, showing six real women with real bodies and real curves, which was created to discredit the stereotype that only ... I am writing this paper on Google Docs, on a chromebook, while I stream music online, check facebook every ten minutes, and even pay my bills online. Internet has taken the world by storm. The internet, which celebrated its 25th century in 2014, started as an idea in 1961. However, the internet as we know it, started with the development of HTML by Tim Berners Lee in 1990. In 1989, Tim Berners Lee, whose parents had previously worked on the world s first commercially built computer Ferranti Mark 1, developed an information management system and successfully implemented communication between an HTTP client and server (McPherson, 2009).. Since then, he has been at the forefront of innovation and has championed the cause of increasing internet accessibility. He graduated first class from Queen s College, Oxford with a degree in physics. He started his career with CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research) where he first started developing hypertext projects. Upon gaining success with his hypertext mini projects, he went on to integrate HTTP with the internet and created the world s first web browser and website at CERN ( Tim Berners Lee , n.d.). ... Through many literary devices and religious elements, the author Patrick Suskind employs postmodern messages. Enlightenment and romantic era characteristics also preserve styles from the era in which the novel takes place: mid to late 1700 s. • 7. Concentric Or Eccentric Training This article is about the modifications to muscle strength, velocity, and neural activity as well as any morphological changes subsequently going through either eccentric or concentric training. Eccentric training has illustrated to have adequately good effects on muscle hypotrophy, strengthening the muscle, and has made efficient exercises for injured athletes going through rehabilitation. But with eccentric training it makes lower concentric but vaster eccentric strength enhancements compared with concentric training, due to eccentric and concentric training providing dissimilar stimuli to the muscles. • 8. John Cheever s Inner Conflictions Throughout their lives, each and every person will endure struggles. While these can vary greatly, each must be handled in the proper way. When it is time to face the music, some people opt to face it head on, while others choose to take them step by step. Over the course of his battles with marital and financial issues, John Cheever, author of many short stories and longtime partner of the The New Yorker decided instead to push these issues out of his mind. By utilizing self delusion he, like many of his characters, were able to cope with the ever changing world around them, but ultimately leading to bigger problems in the future. Therefore, John Cheever s inner conflictions in the midst of his struggles with marriage and finances are mirrored in the actions and words of his characters and the themes which his stories portray. Like many of his literary characters, John Cheever began his life in the suburbs, in Quincy, Massachusetts along with his parents and brother Frederick. The child of well to do parents, Cheever s father was the owner of a prosperous shoe sale business. They lived comfortably for much of his childhood, however, during the depression with the economy failing, the business was lost and the family fell into the clutches of poverty. • 9. The Theory Of The Scientific Revolution In the Scientific Revolution, there occurred a shift in humans thinking from the medieval emphasis on God s eternal unchanging world, which governed people, the universe, and nature, to an approach that defined knowledge and understanding as derived from the immutable laws of nature independent of received truth. Scientists changed the way people think about the world. The gears of the revolution began to turn when Copernicus questioned the geocentric theory, developing his theory of heliocentrism. Many scientists use the method of beginning with a question, experimenting, then falsifying the previous theory. This method of thinking became what is now known as the scientific method. Scientists impacted all fields of science from cosmology to biology. The fields of mathematics, chemistry, and medicine were drastically improved because of the scientists in their fields who discovered new concepts to propell the movement. In all three fields, there was a thirst for understanding and organization that was answered by the revolutionary new concepts. For chemistry, it was the development of the scientific method, for mathematics, it was the organization of the universe, and for medicine, it was the movement towards clinical practices. Due to prominent mathematicians of the time period, the field of mathematics was expanded because of the reason that it provided in a socially chaotic time period. When the 1700s came to an end so did puritanism in America., Bbrilliant thinkers and scientists from the 17th century such as Galileo, Newton, Voltaire, Rousseau, John Locke and many more helped discover new ways of thinking and believing in reason over faith. This discovery, an evolution in America, helped explain a lot and correct many problems and conflicts of the past. Citizens of America were believing in reasoning and scientific proof rather than just living by religion only. Thomas Paine enlightened a whole country with his theories and belief through his book ¨The Age of Reason¨ and also a new way of believing which was called Deism. • 18. The Problem Of Stop And Searches In addition, as Foucault (1983, in Kelly, 2000, p.466) believed, not everything is bad but everything is dangerous... if everything is dangerous then we always have something to do and since youth at risk are considered particularly dangerous, adults have taken it upon themselves to keep these dangerous risks at a minimum by keeping young people under surveillance in any way possible. The method of stop and searches has unfortunately resulted in more disputes and complaint from the youth of the community targeted at constables rather than coalition between the two (Kelly, 2000). As Kelly (2000) points out, the idea of youth at risk surrounds all activities and behaviour involving young people and Ogden and Germinario (1988 in Kelly, 2000) go a step further and claim all children are at times students at risk . Unfortunately, this mentality about young people has not only increased surveillance around them, but it has, as a result, increased the conflict between young people and adults (Kelly, 2000). However, when actual students were interviewed about their personal experiences with police, majority understood the need for the stop and search policy. Russell, Boakye and Hackett (2013) found that most students were comfortable with the policy being put into practice in certain areas as this form of overt surveillance reduced the levels of crime in rogue neighbourhoods. Darwin (1860) never attempted to find a clear location of animal instinct but rather, compared instincts to malleable, habitual experiences carried across individuals of similar species (p.207). He concluded that natural selection could play a role in the gradual development of instincts, and theorized that variations of competing behaviors among different animals result of this phenomenon. In, The Organism and its Behavior, Krout (1933), relays Darwin s attitudes of instinct, who spoke of instincts as chains of reflexes but treated them as mental faculties , which impel animals to perform certain actions (p. 87). Today s ethologists take Darwin s approach to instinct, and emphasize the role of experience in shaping human behavior. Fear, a trait observed by Darwin in various species of birds, is certainly an instinctive quality, as may be seen in nestling birds, though it is strengthened by experience, and by the sight of fear of the same enemy in other animals. But fear of man is slowly acquired (Darwin, 1860). The natural world, according the Darwin, has a direct effect on the everchanging traits of an organism, whether habitual or instinctive. When bleeding occurs somewhere in the body, the solid components of the blood each have their own unique responses as well. These cells are made of a hollow membrane that can hold oxygen and is flexible enough to squeeze through small vessels like the capillaries. (Tortura 696). The common use of biblical references and myths, as well as other notations, provide a more in depth and detailed analyzation throughout the entire novel. To start off, Song of Solomon s title relates to the biblical book of the same name. This emphasizes that the novel addresses more of an old aged theme. The bible based book focuses on a conversation between two lovers and Toni s novel is a celebration of the success of earthly love. Morrison also gives her characters biblical names in order to match them with the well known figures. During our visit, we toured the facility and were privileged to have an employee inform us on the grand diversity of the species found in our region. Throughout the tour, we observed and discussed a variety of animals, however in this paper I decided to focus on five: The first species we encountered during our tour was a bobcat or Lynx rufus. The bobcat s phylum is chordata and from the class mammalia. It belongs to the order carnivora, which consists of meat eating organisms. The bobcat then falls under the family, felidae commonly referred to as the family of cats. Found all throughout North America, from southern Canada to central Mexico, the bobcats can live in habitats like mountain ranges, prairies, and deserts. These habitats are favorable to bobcats because they can camouflage with their environment and have more success as hunters. • 28. Paul s View On The Law Essay Paul has used the law in many circumstances throughout his epistles. He also discusses the implications of the law and its relation to believers. Paul s view on the law has been a conversation held by many New Testament scholars. Some suggest that Paul s views on the law is inconsistent throughout the epistles but by a careful analysis will show that his views are complementary rather than inconsistent. A main issue that Paul argued was that we are justified by faith in Christ and not by doing the works of the law. Paul view of the law was that nobody can be saved by obedience to the law but only by faith in Christ can one be saved. Three theological stands that have strong interest with Paul view of the law are those of Lutheranism, Reformed and The so called New Perspective of Paul. The Lutheranism believes that it is Paul s belief that Christ abolished the law and that the law is an argument contrast of the gospel (Crandell 2014). The main role of the law is to display our hopefulness in efforts of obedience in order to obtain God s acceptance and should cause us to desire from God a mercy that is only found in Christ. The Reformed view sees salvation as something that is of grace and not nothing that involves obeying the law but once saved we must only obey the moral law in order to be pleasing to God (Rosner 2013). From the repeal of Don t Ask Don t Tell to the overturning of DOMA, there s no denying that the Obama administration has made huge strides for LGBT+ people in the United States (Obama Administration Record..., 2014). Although these advances in policy have made the United States a better place for the LGBT+ community, there is still a lot of work that has to be done to ensure that discrimination is prevented around the country. With the 2016 national election coming quickly, it is important that the LGBT+ community elect someone who will fight for LGBT+ rights. Unfortunately, there are few candidates who have made LGBT+ issues a part of their platform. Despite the fact that 37% ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both want to pass the Equality Act (BernieSanders.com, HillaryClinton.com, 2016), which would amend the Civil Rights Act of 1964 so that people cannot be discriminated against because of their sexuality, gender identity, or sex (Congress.gov, 2016). Sanders and Clinton also support the Every Child Deserves a Family Act (BernieSanders.com, HillaryClinton.com, 2016). If passed, this bill would prevent adoption agencies who are supported by the government from discriminating against people based on their sexual orientation, gender identity, and marital status. This bill also would not allow adoption agencies to discriminate against the children based on their sexual orientation or gender identity (Congress.gov, 2016). These two bills are just a small sample of what Hillary and Bernie have in common. Hillary s website has many more words about this issue, and she even has a whole fact sheet about what she will do for the LGBT+ community if elected (Hillaryclinton.com, 2016), but Bernie s website says basically the same things, but in fewer words. From just skimming through the candidates websites, one might think that Hillary is a better choice for the LGBT+ community just because of the sheer amount of content that she has on the issues, but based on some things she has said and done in the past she might not be the best choice when compared to Bernie Sanders, ... • 30. General Studies Writing Class Analysis At the beginning of the semester I entered General Studies Writing 1110, not knowing what to expect. I knew the class was solely based on writing and perfecting personal style, but I never anticipated the valuable information I would learn throughout the course of the year. The only advanced English class I have taken in high school was English Honors in eighth grade. That class gave me the base knowledge of writing, grammar and form that has helped me through my four essays in this class. Starting out, I was not sure what the standard for passing was; even though it was unclear to me what passing was, I strove for perfection. By the time the second essay came around I realized my writing was never perfect. Peer editors and family played a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is important to keep the audience in mind when writing the essay to state the proper things, address the right points and point out valid counterarguments. In my first essay I was not entirely sure how to write to my desired audience or how to say the right things to appeal to them. I had never heard of or used logos, pathos or ethos in an essay until this class. Now I understand the importance of incorporating them. They add an element of realness and honesty to the essay that one would not have had before using these strategies. One essay that shows the growth of this skill is my Analyzing a Visual; in this essay I write to environmental activists and society as a whole. When writing this essay, knowing my audience was mainly environmental activists, I had to make sure I appealed to their passionate, caring side by using the rhetorical strategy pathos. Using pathos in an essay makes people feel intense emotions, such as sadness or grief, which makes them want to take further actions and do anything they can to help the cause being presented. Being able to address specific audiences will never stop being a valuable skill. I can use it in my future college classes, community and career. It is important to address the audience when making speeches for the community so they feel a connection with the speech. Connecting with people will allow ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. High School And Community Professionalism For my third and final field log, I will document my observations and experiences in Kennett High School on March 23, 2017. My main focus will be on the school and community professional branch of West Chester University s Conceptual Framework. My idea of school and community professionalism has changed drastically since starting observations at Kennett High School. Initially, my thoughts on professionalism considered one side of the educational equation: teachers. It was my belief that teachers uphold the professional standards of the school; which is partially true. Teachers are responsible for their behavior within the school and must make sure they present themselves are hard working, ethical professionals concerned for the well ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dr. Mc J is a teacher who not only expects students to assume these academic standards but makes strides to improve students understanding of them. Today (March 23) students gave presentations. Each group presented a book; the plot, the theme, and who might like this sort of novel. Before students went to present, she briefed them on the expectations (clear speech, eye contact, hit all points of assignment etc.). Then she asked them about volunteering to present (Why should you volunteer to go first?). Volunteering first sets a presentation standard and makes an impression on the instructor. This helps students in an area that is not necessarily academic, but professional. Of course there were other helpful instances, like when one student was not comfortable in front of the class. He seemingly lost his voice. However, Dr. McJ told him to breathe, and take a second. Then she asked him to say at least one thing for his assigned slides. Nothing more, but nothing less. This encouragement helped the student to proceed and it showed the teacher s belief that all of her students could achieve. Just this little push showed me she does not accept students saying I can t because she believes that they can. A professional learning community is an environment that focuses on collaboration and results. Students are expected to work together and so are the teachers. The classrooms I have observed are keen to implement collaborative activities. I have not witnessed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There was an interesting scene when I worked at Gallery on the first day. There is a middle school girl who is deaf, and her teacher use sign language to communicate with her. At that time, I did not pay attention to the girl much because I think it is really normal conversation with a deaf person. Suddenly, I saw she speak up for question about one sculpture of Richard Shaw. I look at my coworker with big open eyes, and I told her this is the first time I saw a deaf person who able to talk. On the second day at work, there was a guy who came in the Gallery for quick around look for all the works of art, after that he asked me for taking picture of all sculptures in Gallery. Even from the founding days of The Cullen s, their rule about not eating human flesh demonstrates extreme self control. Every single day the vampires struggle between their greatest desire, human blood, and peacefully existing in a mortal community. This overarching theme of resisting their craving, then is played out in several details in the novel. One specific example is when Edward restrains from his initial lure towards Bella is when he switches out of her biology class (Meyer, Twilight, 89). Although self control is a quality that has been proven to be trained and can improve over time, similar to the way Carlisle is immune to blood almost completely, there is also research that shows that individuals who are in love are more likely to demonstrate self controls that individuals who are in lust (Minjung). In Minjung s article, How Love and Lust Influence Self Control, he discusses this debate. He says Forster et al. explored various possible differences between people who were primed with love versus those who were primed with lust; and the only difference they found was in temporal perspectives (Minjung). What Minjung means by this is that when researching love stricken versus lust stricken, he found that the love individuals had the temporal perspective that was focused more on the future, while the lust individuals did not think about the ... • 35. Influence Of American Culture On Consumers In my opinion, I feel that consumers can get too much of a product. American culture of consumerism appears to be quite addictive. Shopping can become a drug for some. For example, with every new clearance rack at any given department store or buying multiple items because you think there is a big savings when using coupons. Consumers become fueled with the need to fill a void within their daily lives. In recent years I have notice the change of coupon use compared to many years ago has become very addictive for some to the point that it is not saving money. • 38. Rip Van Winkle Rip Van Winkle is the most widely read story in Irving s The Sketchbook of Geoffrey Crayon. The short story, Rip Van Winkle, is more than just a fairy tale written for children. It is, in fact, a metaphorically historical account of the early beginnings of the United States political and individual freedoms from Great Britain, both before, during, and after the American Revolution, yet it is based off an old tale originating in Germany. To fully understand the context of Rip Van Winkle, one must understand the period in which the story was written, as well as the author himself. The differences in the inn and the presence of the flag symbolizes the new changes in American political society and that English rule in the colonies has crumbled away. Rip also learns that the men he used to gossip with at the inn now have completely different professions or are deceased. His friend Nicholas Vedder has been dead for eighteen years. Vedder is symbolic for the time Americans just conversed about politics rather than actively engage in political freedom. He learns his friend, Brom Dutcher, had joined the army and was missing in action, although he is baffled and completely ignorant of the fact that a revolution had occurred. When he asks of the schoolteacher, Van Brummel, he finds that he also served in this army as a general and was now an important member in an organization called Congress. The shift of how the society of his village went from being submissive under the rule of King George the III to entering into its own form of governance and independence represents America discovering its own unique identity.
