The Causes Of Early Basketball Dynasties In The United States
14.
Early Basketball Dynasties Several teams in both college and the professional level formed early
dynasties. Some say that this contributed to the unpopularity of the game during their reigns because
the outcomes were too predictable. In the NBA, the Minnesota Lakers had a dynasty going; led by
Mikan, they won championships in 5 of 6 seasons from 1949 to 1954. Even as the league changed its
rules, and as Mikan s scoring dipped, the Lakers rolled. However, the game itself was becoming
harder to watch. The Boston Celtics would continue where Minnesota left off. It started in 1957, when
the Boston Celtics defeated the St. Louis Hawks in a tough best of seven game series. That was the
first of an incredible 11 championships in 13 seasons.
Some say that the Celtics Destiny is the most incredible in history but the UCLA Bruins college
basketball team might have something to say about that. For 12 seasons, beginning with the 1963
1964 season, Coach John Wooden and the Bruins won a record 10 NCAA titles; including seven in a
row. The only years they did not win were 1965 66 season where they had a bad run of injuries and
illnesses. Texas Western won that year and we ll discuss that importance later. The other year was the
1973 1974 season. Coach Wooden was ill a good portion of that year and would retire the next year.
This was an amazing run and in my opinion solidified what is the greatest dynasty in the history of
sports. I say this because in college basketball you have

Poverty And Loneliness In I Stand Here Ironing By Tillie...
I Stand Here Ironing
In the story, I Stand Here Ironing , written by Tillie Olsen, the iron symbolizes the role of poverty and
loneliness in the mother s life., hence the title. The iron itself represents the mother s current
circumstances; poverty, loneliness, and other misfortunes whereas the actual motion of ironing
represents the mother s train of thought.
The very first thing the narrator says is, I stand here ironing, and what you asked me moves tormented
back and forth with the iron, (Olsen 292). This establishes that the iron is more than a chunk of metal
that makes clothes look neat. Poverty and loneliness do not directly represent the iron, but the iron
represents what the mother is thinking and talking about. Poverty and loneliness play a role in the life
of the narrator and as a result, she ponders about it and how it has affected her and her daughter. 1 was
nineteen. It was the pre relief, pre WPA world of the depression, (293). She was struggling financially,
and because of the Great Depression, she was struggling to find a job, especially as a woman. And on
top of that, she has a child she hardly has time to take care of because of her quest for a job and money
to support herself and her daughter. Not only is she financially struggling, for I worked or looked for
work and for Emily s father, who could no longer endure (he wrote in his good bye note) sharing want
with us. , her husband abandoned her because of her financial situation (292). What else is more
tormenting than thinking about how much of a financial hell hole one is in and that the only partner
they can depend on has given up all hope? Her thoughts and feelings are linked to the iron and the iron
is linked to poverty and loneliness. As she moves the iron back and forth, so are her thoughts. The
thoughts are tormenting, And when is there time to remember, to sift, to weigh, to estimate, to total? I
will start and there will be an interruption and I will have to gather it all together again. Or I will
become engulfed with all I did or did not do, with what should have been and what cannot be helped,
(292). These consecutive questions remain unanswered and show how much she is thinking about her
life. These deep,

A Proud Filipino American
America is considered a melting pot of different ethnic groups. By today s standard, American culture
is the result of a variety of races integrating their own cultural beliefs into American society.
Throughout the years, the United States has seen a massive increase of people migrating from Asian
countries; they make up 3.6 percent of the U.S. population, a 199 percent increase from 1980 when
they constituted only 1.5 percent of the population (Ng). Like other immigrants, Asians come here in
order to seek a better life and experience civil liberties. According to statistics, Filipino Americans
today make up the second largest Asian Pacific American (APA) group in the country (Aquino).

(Zaide 303 304) This started the wave of Filipinos wanting to migrate to the states is search of
unlimited opportunities. There have been sporadic movement of Filipinos stepping foot onto American
soil. During 1907 up until about 1930, they were forced to become hired help assigned to the sugar
plantations in Hawaii, underpaid and living in poor conditions. There were brief periods in which
Filipinos were not allowed to step foot into America, but after acquiring independence from the
United States in 1946, there was an increase of migration to the states. Ever since then, the Filipino
race has been steadily growing here.
Minority groups that have chosen to make America their home have triumphed over many bumps in
the road for freedom. My ancestors have experienced negative moments in the past with white
Europeans. Just like African Americans and Irish, they suffered derogative name calling and racial
slurs on a daily basis. They had to constantly deal with humiliating signs prohibiting them from
entering business establishments. (Aquino) Instead of leaving and going back home, they chose to stay
and try to weather the stormy conditions. Somehow managing to stay strong during hardships and
obstacles shows how persistent Filipinos are to fight for what was promised to us. There have been
some notable contributors who have

Benefits Of New Technology
Mr. Ojeda 4B
Mia Honrubia
Technological advancements help societies in various ways, helping them grow and thrive; protecting
them, providing enjoyment and improving quality of life. To determine whether or not a new
technology will be implemented, a strategy known as, cost benefit analysis is applied. This analysis
evaluates the costs involved upfront and over time as compared to the benefits received from the new
technology. For example, the development of new types of technology to be used in medical care.
New techniques may be more effective or have fewer side effects, but may be too expensive to justify
replacing the current standard of care. In addition to the monetary cost there may also be negative
outcomes that may pose a threat to health of our society. There has to be a balance, for the new
technology to be successful. An ideal new innovative technology, is safer, cheaper, faster, and easier to
maintain than the old technology being replaced.
Nuclear energy for example, is a relatively new kind of energy technology that is being introduced
into our world. Coal and natural gas make up old technology and are currently the major energy
sources in the United States. Some benefits of nuclear energy are that nuclear energy innovations have
made it a much more feasible choice than others. They have high energy density as compared to fossil
fuels. The amount of fuel required by nuclear power plant is comparatively less than what is required
by other power plants

Example Of A Political Cartoon Essay
As November rolls along and the presidential elections begin, political cartoons on the candidates,
Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, come into play. While there are numerous issues currently being
advertised about in the media, there is only one issue that I feel is most spoken about, that should not
be. That issue is immigration. While Hillary Clinton feels that immigrants should be able to stay in the
U.S., Donald Trump is a massive supporter of sending back any immigrants, especially Mexicans, to
their birthplaces. I believe that Donald Trump is a huge racist and does not care about other people
that are not of his race. Political Cartoons by cartoonist John Darkow and John Cole illustrate how
irrational and racist Donald Trump views on

Time really flies; I started working here at GEICO on September 14th, 2015 and have been two and an

of such accomplishment goes to many people I have been honored to cross path with. I was

Characters Of A Dog In The Golden Compass, By Philip Pullman
Three years ago, my family adopted a dog. I ending up being the one who was most reluctant to
making the final decision and still was even after he had entered our family. I was the one who
thought of all the negatives for we don t need a dog incorporated into our busy lives. For the first few
weeks I did not like this dog, and the dog new it. Over time, I started to relate and bond with this dog.
I saw how he was different, he did not act like a normal dog of his breed, different from the rest. I find
the same thing in myself in my family, not like the others, but were both of us are still included and
loved. Now, the dog that I didn t want and I are closer than any of my other family members are with
him. In the novel The Golden Compass, the author Philip Pullman develops a similar type of
relationship for each of his characters called daemons. These companions reflect a certain person s
identity, soul, and changes in feeling through their different forms, usually as animals. I am being
considered for Mr. Pullman s next novel and he has asked me to develop daemons of my own for the
next book in his series. After a few days of thinking I have decided on three animals that would be a
great representation of me in daemon form, an owl, a lemur, and a butterfly. Throughout my academic
career I have tended to be a good student who got excellent in elementary school and straight A s in
middle school. So what better daemon to have than owl to represent this side of me. I tend to have the
ability to understand concepts and make them concrete easily when explained complete and
thoroughly. This form of myself not only comes during school work but any time that I have to be
analytical. One place that I have to show my thinking is on the tennis court, a sport that I play year
round. Tennis is very much a mind game and at my higher level of play, I am forced to compete more
and more strategically while also maintaining my consistent fundamental skills. This means observing
what your opponents weakness is and applying it to the match so swing it into your favor. Placement,
direction, speed, spin, are all things that need to be considered during every point. My owl is not only

including the death of her father and her infamous video and although the video showed immaturity,
she made the comeback of a lifetime. Through all the hate and the breakdowns that came with the
video, she remained strong and fought through it all. Not only was she consistently brave, but she

Myasthenia Gravis Essay
What is Myasthenia gravis ?
Myasthenia gravis is considered as one of the most important common neuromuscular disorders.
Although it is categorized as a neuromuscular disease , there are few other factors other than acquired
immunological abnormality , like genetic abnormality in neuromuscular junction , and some relations
to thymus diseases and cancers.
Myasthenia gravis presents clinically in a variety of ways, with varied symptoms that make it difficult
to diagnose it in initial stages.
As MG became the subject of interest to neurologists mostly in the past years , however it is still
categorized as an autoimmune disease , and much about pathophysiology and immunopathology of
MG has been learned in the past 20 years.
The origin of the autoimmune dysfunction in MG patients is unknown, but thymic abnormalities,
defects in immune regulation and sex hormones play major roles in patients with anti AChR
antibodies. Genetic predisposition is also likely to influence the occurrence of the disease as
mentioned above.
Pathogenesis And Factors :
Autoimmune factors :
As mentioned previously , MG is mostly considered as an acquired autoimmune disease of the
neuromuscular junction. The autoimmune system mostly attacks the nicotinic acetylcholine receptors
located in the postsynaptic endplate membrane.
In MG, the postsynaptic muscle membrane is distorted and simplified, having lost its normal folded
shape, the concentration of acetylcholine receptors on the muscle

The Mossi Myth
Who are the Mossi? The Mossi are a diverse people whose population are greatest in ,what they
consider their homeland, the central part of Burkina Faso and they also live in Cote D Ivoire and
Ghana. The Mossi is the largest ethnic group in Burkina Faso, making up forty percent of the
population totaling over 6 million people. The Mossi are the second largest ethnic group in D Ivoire
totaling over 1.2 million people. A smaller population of about 160,000 Mossi live in Ghana (Mossi).
The history of the Mossi is very interesting. There are different ideas about how the Mossi originated.
Because there are few written records about the Mossi, they rely on special singers called griots to
pass on their traditions orally. According to folklore by the Mossi, the following myth represents the
origin of the Mossi. Over forty generations ago, a king named Naba Nedega had a daughter whom he
would not allow to marry because she was a great warrior. So Princess Nyennega took a horse and fled
north into what is now Mossi country. She married a local man. Their son, named Ouedraogo
(stallion), was sent back to his mother s homeland to be raised by his grandfather, Naba Nedega.
When he grew up, he returned to the north with cavalry from his homeland and conquered his father s
people, the Bisa. The marriage of Ouedraogo and his troops with Bisa ... Show more content on

using simple cost cutting solutions that did not affect quality of products so that as many people as
possible will be able to afford them. ( www.ikea.com). He used every opportunity to reduce costs

A focused cost leadership strategy according to Ireland et al (2006) is an action plan the firm develops
to produce goods and services for a narrow market segment at the lowest cost . IKEA focuses on
applying the techniques needed to achieve this cost leadership such as bulk buying, economical
sources of supplies, low cost logistics and store location while at the same time concentrating on
understanding and satisfying the needs.
Although it is a cost leader, IKEA also offers some differentiated features that appeal to its target
customers, including its unique furniture designs, in store playrooms for children, wheelchairs for
customer use, free buggies, reasonably priced restaurants and cafes and extended hours making
shopping at IKEA an experience. Thus, IKEA focused cost leadership strategy also includes some
differentiated features with its low cost products thereby making it a hybrid strategy. (Hitt et al, 2009:
121).
Part of keeping costs down IKEA strategically located its global distribution retailing network near
container ports and major truck and rail routes. In most instances, they own the large stores but in
order to be flexible and adaptable to penetrate new markets they also facilitate franchises where there
are risks to entry due to unfamiliarity or hostility to the IKEA concept. Their stores have been
described as theme parks masquerading as a furniture outlet (Margonelli, 2002: 112)

Analysis Of Love The Way You Lie
Love The Way You Lie, is a song sung by Eminem featuring Rihanna. Eminem, born as Marshall
Bruce Mathers, is an American rap musician from Missouri. Eminem had a rough life, being raised
only by his mother and constantly moving schools. He would always be beaten up and did not have
great marks, however he was always good at English and would even study the dictionary. He took his
knowledge of words and brought them into his passion of hip hop, which then started his career in rap.
As his career was taking off, he got into bad habits, personal struggles and addictions. In 2010, he

This song is full of multiple literary devices such as hyperboles, metaphors, and imagery. The
hyperboles in the song emphasize strong feelings such as love, hate, and pain. For example, Just

Unraveling Of America Essay
Unraveling of America
Consensus characterized the American history between 1945 and 1963. This was a term used to
describe the period in which America developed global hegemony as well as creating domestic
affluence in the world. The victory in the World War II greatly helped in the achievement of these
American values. There were rapid expansions and economic growth in the country. This period is
regarded as crucial in the history of America. It is a time that American population started gaining
confidence and superiority.
From the year 1963, America changed considerably. The values during the consensus period changed

Kennedy. This is because the presidency of John F. Kennedy focused mostly on increasing public
enthusiasm and introduction of liberal programs. The president supported capitalism by encouraging
big businesses. However, he was very skeptical and reluctant to show support of the causes advocated
by civil rights movements.
After the country had cemented its place on the global map, there was great need to mitigate possible
outcomes of issues such as suburbanization. These questions were unemployment, poverty and
dislocation of working people. The economic prospect in this period was to be developed with a view
of Keynesian economics. This was converged with social concerns. The biggest of these was racism. It
was also important in this period to root out complacency that was developed during the consensus
period. There was a general view that with complacency, countries such as Russia would outmaneuver
America.
Civil rights movements were very active during this period. The Civil Rights Act was supported by
President John F. Kennedy with a view of having an equal society. The civil rights concerns in
America were high, particularly in the marginalization of non natives in the country. The blacks were
not allowed to mingle freely with the whites. The civil rights movements led by Dr. Martin Luther

Destructive Cult
The world of cults is a misunderstood, yet dangerous to those captured by the community they bring,
and sometimes to their biological family. Cults are often seen as small, close knit groups of mentally
weak, crazy people, led by a power hungry source of insanity. While most of this may be true, the idea
that only the weak enter into cults is a fabrication to make people feel good about themselves, seeing
themselves as above the absurd ravings of a madman. Cults are never this simple, whether it be the
seemingly benign nature of Scientology, the paragons of virtue that many cult leaders, sometimes
successfully, try to mold themselves into, or just the satirical views of the harmless Church of the

The Rising Costs Of The War
The rising costs of the war, coupled with falling oil prices in 1986, led to the use of non oil exports to
generate revenue because oil income was no longer a guaranteed source of foreign currency. To
finance short term debts, Iran drained its small reserve of foreign currency by allowing advance
drawing on revenues. The FY 1987 budget also reflected the priority of the war effort. The
government again promised to curb inflation, to continue to subsidize basic foodstuffs, and to make
billions available to the import sector, presumably for consumer use. The Iranian fiscal year begins on
March 21 and runs through March 20 of the following calendar year. The budget, presented to the
Majlis by the Planning and Budget Organization, consists of three sections: ordinary, plan, and
defense allocations. Because of conflict between the Revolution s stated opposition to the massive
defense expenditures of the shah and the high cost of the war with Iraq that began less than one year
after the Revolution, by late 1987 there had been no fiscal year in which defense expenditures were
not severely understated for domestic political reasons. As a result, attempting to set forth actual
figures on the money supply, especially as a function of fiscal policy, was almost pointless. The
preamble to the Constitution vests supreme authority in the faqih. According to Article 5, the faqih is

Hiroshima Book Review Essay
John Hersey s journalist narrative, Hiroshima focuses on the detonation of the atomic bomb, Little
Boy, that dropped on the city of Hiroshima on August 6, 1945. Although over one hundred thousand
people died in the dropping of the bomb, there were also several survivors. John Hersey travelled to
Hiroshima to listen to the experiences of six survivors. Hersey uses his book to tell the story of six of
these survivors (spanning from the morning the bomb fell to forty years later) through a compilation
of interviews. Hiroshima demonstrates the vast damage and suffering inflicted on the Japanese that
resulted from US deployment of the atomic bomb. And although depressing, humbling, and terrifying,

Not only does he have to witness, face, and mend the bloodied and injured hospital occupants but he
has to do this all while suffering from a tremendous amount of fear, uncertainty, and shock from the
explosion. The horror does not stop after the initial recognition of the boom. Minutes after the bomb
fire is spreading, the smoke is so thick it s hard to see, and of course, there are severely burned and
wounded people just about anywhere you look. Our survivors spend the rest of their day helping and
caring for other survivors, with absolutely no time to recover from what just happened. Whether that
be running provisions to them, helping them find loved ones, or attempting to uncover them from the
ruble all the jobs were all equally forlorn. Even after days, months, and years our six survivors
struggle to get back to the life they once had before the terrible disaster. Through all the forty years
after the explosion, they had to deal and cope with the terrible flashbacks of the bloodied bodies and
corpses. They will had to deal with the empty space that was left in their hearts made by deaths and of
many close family members; and although many family members didn t die immediately, many died
in the months and years following. Also, the bombs did not spare much or any money, shelter, and
provisions; meaning our survivors had to endure poverty and homelessness. The novel comes to a

John Searles Summary
Searles argues with his main concept of the Chinese Room, an experiment Prove his main claim that
Strong AI must be actually a real (human) brain to work. I will argue against this to show StrongAi
can be possible as long it starts to create rules and not responses. (Words 49) Artificial Inelegance
topic has captivated the minds of researches and common people alike. The use of AI comes into
being as to try to understand our own brain and create a thinking machine. To begin the topic, one
must explain of john Searles arguments against what he calls StrongAI. Searles creates a distinction
between Strong Ai and Weak AI. While he has no issue with Weak Ai which is the idea of computers
that assist us in crunching numbers based on our inputs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To go full circle on the first point we decided that machines must take into account the concept of
making rules and reflecting on past rules. The second point was to see how thinking and self
awareness is achieved at the height of the process of rulemaking. The concept of language and
symbols Searles is very important as an example as it sheds light on why machines can t ever be
human even with human brains as Searles claim they need to be a theoretical StrongAI. Language was
created by mapping things and association of learned objects. To truly learn a language we have to
understand and experience what it stands for. Language is an expression of results based on tests on
objects that are now definable. It is a shortcut for learning information. Therefore it s important that AI
does more than think in a correct pattern as our experience of inputs comes from our interactions with
one another and what we learn from language and not on our own in solitude. The man the Chinese
Room cannot have those things and therefore cannot learn a language in the method he is prescribed.
This wraps in the thoughts of the second point as well to feel self aware we identify ourselves in
relation to other people. This shows our society is also one big brain that is made up of variety of
rooms or people in this case all making decisions and rules for their

Ferrin s Process Of Inductive Bible Study
Ferrin s process of inductive Bible study takes on a relational approach that consists of three essential
parts or phases titled Foundation, Framing, and Finish Work. The structured methods encompass
studying a book of the Bible and internalizing it rather than just memorizing the words (p. 3). The
author diligently explains how that through the devoted application of all phases individuals and group
Bible study participants are sure to fall in love with God s Word (p. 3). Ferrin presents and or
describes Scripture internalization as taking in the truth and then applying it to everyday life or living.
Ferrin pointed out that the benefits of understanding biblical messages book by book include the
Living Word of God becoming a reality within persons that grow more enjoyable and rewarding as
time comes and goes.
On a personal note, I practice reading the Bible through the process of observation. For instance, I
practice learning what to look for in the text; interpreting the meaning; I prayerfully seek God and
through the power of the Holy Spirit I can apply what I read. Nevertheless, I feel Ferrin s process of
inductive Bible study might prove more productive and edifying both personally and in a group.
Moving forward and upon careful consideration, I find that Ferrin s four step building a house analogy
approach might help me to get to know a book of the Bible and all of its elements. For example,

Ordovician Extinction Research Paper
Are we on the brink of a sixth mass extinction? Many say yes, but there is also hard evidence saying
no. Nonetheless, scientists can prove five mass extinctions in history. The first mass extinction
happened roughly around 445 million years ago. It was named the Ordovician Extinction. The species
affected were known as Graptolite, which are different types of sea creatures. Their demise on Earth
lasted around only one million years. Around sixty to seventy percent of the species disappeared, and
now the remaining species have evolved into something new. The extinction was likely because of a
short and dangerous ice age, or the formation of the Appalachian mountains. It was likely that glaciers
formed over the oceans and caused the sea levels to rapidly drop, killing the species.
The second mass extinction happened to sea creatures once again. Somewhere between 375 360
million years ago, fluctuations of the sea levels in the ocean caused a large portion of Earth s species
to disappear. Another cause would be the changes in climate change, asteroid strikes, or new land
plants. Some theories suggest that oxygen depletions in shallow waters caused the Devonian
Extinction. Other theories say that algae ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

of years, or whether in happened in a short 200,000 year period. This was the only extinction to take

The Importance Of Government Censorship
Social media is the pumping heart that gives life to the information that citizens receive. It is not the
only form of communication, however it has become a fundamental method to present our thoughts,
ideas, beliefs, and opinions to other people. It has become a necessity in American society to use
media sites such as Facebook and Twitter to instantaneously access or send information. When words
are censored, it strangles our ability to effectively communicate what we may be thinking. Similarly,
when ideas are censored, our ability to progress as a society and as a nation is hindered. Censorship
has been employed by other governments in the past as a method to influence the way a people may
think about or view a topic. Therefore, government censorship of social media runs the risk of
encroaching upon constitutional rights due to overreaching information control policies.
Although there is an ongoing battle for what amount of censorship media sources should enforce,
there are laws that are already in effect such as the Child Internet Protection Act, which aims to protect
children from explicit material, and the Freedom Act, intended to prevent the government from
accessing huge amounts of information that is found in record files. These laws are put in place to
eliminate any sort of overreach from the government because it was going against civil rights. This
discussion of censorship developed further during an interview when the interviewee stated, As an

Zoot Suit by Luis Valdez
Based on the infamous 1942 Sleepy Lagoon murder mystery and the resulting Zoot Suit Riots in Los

Americans brought to trial for a murder they did not commit.
Zoot Suit brings together unforgettable characters such as the irreverent El Pachuco and the

racially turbulent events that rocked Los Angeles during the early 1940s.
Valdez says this production exemplifies the evolution of American society.

tend to want to move toward making movies, mainly because of the potential to reach a world wide

At the age of 6, Valdez got his first taste of theater when he was cast to play a monkey for his school s
production of Christmas in the Jungle.
I use to bring my lunch in a paper bag and I remember when we were getting ready to prepare for the
play, my teacher took my bag, ripped it up and used it to make papier mache, he recalls. We made
masks for our costumes out of paper mache; and I got a monkey mask made from my lunch bag. I also

Valdez never got to perform in his school play because the week before the play, his family, who were
farm workers, were evicted from their home and had to move.
They play went on without me, he says. I never got to act and I was very disappointed. That event
created this hole in me; and I think from then on I ve been trying to fill it through my work.
Valdez s experience in a farm worker family provided much encouragement and drive when he
founded El Teatro Campesino. In 1965, Valdez left the San Francisco Mime Troupe to join Cesar

Did Racism cause enslavement of African Americans? To answer this question you have to determine
what a slave is? And what Racism is? By my views and believes, slavery is any type of duty
somebody does for you. You own them so they work for you otherwise they will get punished. Now
Racism is a negative attitude towards another race. After these to words are cleared up you come to a
conclusion that racism in the 17th century caused enslavement of African Americans. To believe this
you have to look at the history left for us to read. The court papers, and journals of people back in the

Because he was a different color John Punch no longer had hope for freedom. Why, because he was
African and was braking the law of the land at the time. The grounds for this harsh sentence
presumably lay in the fact that he was non Christian rather than in the fact that he was physically dark.
But religious beliefs could change, while skin color could not. Within a generation race, religion was

A Good Story By Anne Mccaffery
Anne Mccaffery once said that A good story is a good story no matter who wrote it. Well, what is a
good story? More specifically, what is a good short story? A good short story should have intriguing
characters that provide the readers with a rollercoaster of emotions. To make the characters as
interesting as possible, there is also a need for descriptive language and specific sensory details. The
events in the story should engage the reader and lead them into another world, they should let readers
journey through the story with the characters one page at a time. This applies to all stories, but to
achieve this in a short story is harder, since it is shorter in length. Another thing that is important in a

Historic Journey into Outer Space
Since the historic journey into outer space by Yuri Gagarin, manned spaceflight and space exploration
have generated and motivated astounding inventions and innovations. These discoveries and
developments affect every single person on Earth, and have improved a wide range of fields including
health, food, technology, entertainment, automobile, dental, medical, safety, sports, and many more

The first of this myriad of technological advances is the artificial heart pump, called the MicroMed

Preventing The Pregnant Adolescent Prevent Her Baby From...
This paper will look at the various ways to help the pregnant adolescent prevent her baby from being
born with low birth weight. The nurses role in teaching the adolescent mom to be, the different
implications of safety, communication, education, challenges, interventions, and nursing care as they
pertain to her pregnancy and the risks she and her baby face. The causes that put the adolescent at risk
for these complications will also be reviewed. Lastly, patient education and methods of teaching by
the nurse to the adolescent of these risk factors will be discussed.
What is low birth weight? Why is it an issue? What are the risk factors for babies born with low birth
weight? According to Pillitteri (2014), low birth weight is a baby born weight under 2500 grams (p.
708). Babies that are considered to be LBW can be preterm or full term.
Ryan et al. (2011), reported that:
LBW can arise from two conditions: preterm birth ( 37 weeks gestation) or intrauterine growth
restriction. Fetal and neonatal morbidity and mortality are strongly related to LBW. During
development, children who were born with a LBW may experience stunted growth, cognitive
problems, and chronic diseases in later life. A multitude of determinants influence gestational age and
growth of the fetus, which in turn cause LBW. These include socio economic, behavioral, and
physiological determinants such as nutrition, poverty, and gestational weight gain. (p. 588).

If a person learns from myth to live in this world as a whole person, she has a truth at least as
functional as one taken from recorded history or documented fact. Billy Pritty in The Shipping News
does not use recorded scientific methods to chart his way in the water, as one who studies history
might. Rather he relies on oral tradition to keep his boat from hitting known sinkers. Enveloped in
thick fog, Billy uses a rhyme from the time when people sailed without modern aides such as charts or
lights: When the Knitting Pins you is abreast, Desperate Cove bears due west Behind the Pins you
must steer Til The Old Man s Shoe does appear. The tickle lies just past the toe, It s narrow, you must
slowly go. (175) The idea of finding one s path by way of myth or oral tradition is typically Canadian,
since not all of Canada has been mapped from the ground. In many cases myth is more reliable than
recorded history because its telling goes back farther in time, and thus it existed before documentation.
It had power before the printing press inked history books. Further, the example of the Gammy Bird (a

information and truth proves that documented facts are not always to be believed. Dunstan Ramsay in

Inevitability Of Eternal Life
I try to live life happily and fully because I know that the time on Earth is limited. What makes the life
precious is the inevitability of the death. Day by day, from birth, everyone is approaching a step closer
to his or her final hour. Even the Bible mentions in Ecclesiastes 3 that there is a time for everything ...
a time to be born and a time to die . Many scientists tried to research the concept of mortality, and yet,
this matter needs further study, or it will remain unknown until each person encounters at a time of
death. I still remember the first decease scene I witnessed as a child; it was my great grandfather s. He
was an atheist for his whole life and neither did he believe the afterlife. In spite of this, right before he
ceased to breathe, my family heard him saying, I believe in God, I want an eternal life . I suppose that
my great grandfather wanted to have peace and be sincere before leaving this world which he could
not return. Notably, a lot of people throughout the times believed the afterlife. Egyptians, for example,
believe that the souls continue their life even after the death. Others, for instance, the Christians,
believe of resurrection at return of Jesus. Christian s burials are interesting that it is still a popular
tourist attraction in Rome. The tombs I will focus are the Christian catacombs and the St. Peter s, in

Also in regards to wisdom, the Greek word tem is used as inner man, mind, will heart, and
understanding (blueletterbible.org). In scripture, tem is used by addressing the skilled tabernacle
workmen in Exodus 35:10, And every wise hearted among you shall come, and make all that the

New Testament Usage of Wisdom In the New Testament, words like wisdom and wisely are translated
from the Greek word phronimos (blueletterbible.org). It is translated to mean prudent, sensible, and
wise (Vine, 2006). In Luke 1:17, phronimos is used when the angel says And he shall go before him in
the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the
wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord, (NKJ). Throughout the New
Testament, it appears that wisdom is mostly referred to as something gained through life experiences

Tuberculosis Or Tb Is Caused By Mycobacterium Tuberculosis
Tuberculosis or TB is caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Mycobacteria are aerobic bacteria,
which do not form spores and are non motile. They are curved, intracellular rods, and have cell walls
made of glycolipids and phospholipidglycans that protect them from lysosomal attacks. TB is one of
the world s deadliest diseases. Approximately one out of three people worldwide are infected; in 2014,
9.6 million people were diagnosed with TB and there were 1.5 million deaths (CDC, 2014). This
disease is highly contagious, and although the number of cases reported has decreased, the decrease
was smaller than in previous years. New strains of drug resistant TB pose a threat to the global
population as a whole; less than half of those diagnosed with drug resistant TB are successfully cured.
Humans are the only known carrier of Tuberculosis; it is spread from person to person through aerosol
droplets released into the air when an infected person coughs, sneezes, speaks, or sings. The infection
cannot be spread by: shaking someone s hand, sharing food or drink, touching bed linens or toilet
seats, sharing toothbrushes, or kissing (CDC, 2014). One cough from an infected individual can
produce 3,000 infected droplets and it only takes ten bacilli to initiate an infection (Herchline, 2015).
Since the disease is spread through the air, micro epidemics are common in closed communities such
as hospitals, nursing homes, prisons, submarines, and on transcontinental flights.

Frankston Magistrates-Personal Narrative
Hey bro, Sorry I ve taken so long to write you a letter, I wrote you one like a month ago, but never
ended up sending it lol... so I m re writing it now lol. I actually thought I was going see you last week,
I was at Candice s court case at Frankston Magistrates and your name was on the list, I asked if I
could have a visit with you but they said you weren t there which was weird because you were
definitely on the list... it was on Wednesday 23rd Nov I think, were you there at all that day? Maybe
you d already left... anyway, how you doing man? Have you been to court yet or know how long you
ll be in for? If so, hopefully it went well and you ll be getting out soon because I know you don t

I m going to start doing a few days carpentry work here and there with Toby, I figured, I m always out
the back building something, I may as well go do pretty much the same thing and get paid for it lol... I
ve also been looking (not very hard though) for a new place, something a bit smaller and cheaper!
Even if I put in all of my centrelink payments for the month, it s still not enough to cover rent lol plus
I just want to get out of this joint anyway and I want somewhere better for Pedro. I feel bad that he has
to stay in that little fenced area I made while he s outside so I want to find somewhere with a smaller
backyard with proper fences so he can just roam the backyard and do what he wants and, there has
been so many foxes in my backyard lately! I went outside the other night to yell at Pedro because he
wouldn t stop barking and there was a massive fox just sitting in the middle of the backyard staring at
him so I m suss on them attacking him and even though he s a fox terrier (which originally were bred
specifically to hunt foxes lol) he will buckle for sure we both know how much of a bitch he is

Atlanta s Journey-Personal Narrative
Atlanta, the center of the world. Jewel of the Carolinian federation. That s what everyone calls it. I ve
lived here for over ten years and made my existence in the outer skirts. Farmlands and rice fields are
what I know; it s what I learned. Everyone seems to love their vegetables. Corn, rice, greens, and
gourds. Few require the want or money to need red meat regularly. It s not like we have too much
space to raise beef cows anyway. The thing I remember about my mother and father are they could not
keep me. I remember them going on a train and chugging away in God knows what direction, I was
but four years old. I didn t even have a photo of them. I got to reference. For many times, I ve
described their likeness to the city records painter. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I dip my pen in the inkwell and write. Soaring messenger on the horizons, Not lone but with
companion s forms trio, Sending the collapse of mighty fathers and sons, The message brings love
with a duo. I look at the clock again and see it s already 8. The shop should be busy with gossipers
from the announcement. I put on my sleep clothes like a sloth, one piece at a time at molasses pace. I
start up the creaky stairs to my room and see out the window the city still showing its colors on the
walls, banners, and lights alike. The bed is cold, but it warms up quickly. I love how my silver and
blue covers seek to keep me warm like a comforting thing wrapping around my body protecting me.
What will tomorrow hold? What will next week hold? Next month? It s like Fox said, These times are
times to protect each other. What will I do to answer this call? I can t fight! I can farm, serve, and
make a home! And who says that s not contributing? I fall to sleep thinking about the future of
Carolina. The future of Atlanta, the future of

  • 2. The Causes Of Early Basketball Dynasties In The United States 14. Early Basketball Dynasties Several teams in both college and the professional level formed early dynasties. Some say that this contributed to the unpopularity of the game during their reigns because the outcomes were too predictable. In the NBA, the Minnesota Lakers had a dynasty going; led by Mikan, they won championships in 5 of 6 seasons from 1949 to 1954. Even as the league changed its rules, and as Mikan s scoring dipped, the Lakers rolled. However, the game itself was becoming harder to watch. The Boston Celtics would continue where Minnesota left off. It started in 1957, when the Boston Celtics defeated the St. Louis Hawks in a tough best of seven game series. That was the first of an incredible 11 championships in 13 seasons. Some say that the Celtics Destiny is the most incredible in history but the UCLA Bruins college basketball team might have something to say about that. For 12 seasons, beginning with the 1963 1964 season, Coach John Wooden and the Bruins won a record 10 NCAA titles; including seven in a row. The only years they did not win were 1965 66 season where they had a bad run of injuries and illnesses. Texas Western won that year and we ll discuss that importance later. The other year was the 1973 1974 season. Coach Wooden was ill a good portion of that year and would retire the next year. This was an amazing run and in my opinion solidified what is the greatest dynasty in the history of sports. I say this because in college basketball you have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Poverty And Loneliness In I Stand Here Ironing By Tillie... I Stand Here Ironing In the story, I Stand Here Ironing , written by Tillie Olsen, the iron symbolizes the role of poverty and loneliness in the mother s life., hence the title. The iron itself represents the mother s current circumstances; poverty, loneliness, and other misfortunes whereas the actual motion of ironing represents the mother s train of thought. The very first thing the narrator says is, I stand here ironing, and what you asked me moves tormented back and forth with the iron, (Olsen 292). This establishes that the iron is more than a chunk of metal that makes clothes look neat. Poverty and loneliness do not directly represent the iron, but the iron represents what the mother is thinking and talking about. Poverty and loneliness play a role in the life of the narrator and as a result, she ponders about it and how it has affected her and her daughter. 1 was nineteen. It was the pre relief, pre WPA world of the depression, (293). She was struggling financially, and because of the Great Depression, she was struggling to find a job, especially as a woman. And on top of that, she has a child she hardly has time to take care of because of her quest for a job and money to support herself and her daughter. Not only is she financially struggling, for I worked or looked for work and for Emily s father, who could no longer endure (he wrote in his good bye note) sharing want with us. , her husband abandoned her because of her financial situation (292). What else is more tormenting than thinking about how much of a financial hell hole one is in and that the only partner they can depend on has given up all hope? Her thoughts and feelings are linked to the iron and the iron is linked to poverty and loneliness. As she moves the iron back and forth, so are her thoughts. The thoughts are tormenting, And when is there time to remember, to sift, to weigh, to estimate, to total? I will start and there will be an interruption and I will have to gather it all together again. Or I will become engulfed with all I did or did not do, with what should have been and what cannot be helped, (292). These consecutive questions remain unanswered and show how much she is thinking about her life. These deep, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. A Proud Filipino American America is considered a melting pot of different ethnic groups. By today s standard, American culture is the result of a variety of races integrating their own cultural beliefs into American society. Throughout the years, the United States has seen a massive increase of people migrating from Asian countries; they make up 3.6 percent of the U.S. population, a 199 percent increase from 1980 when they constituted only 1.5 percent of the population (Ng). Like other immigrants, Asians come here in order to seek a better life and experience civil liberties. According to statistics, Filipino Americans today make up the second largest Asian Pacific American (APA) group in the country (Aquino). Filipinos alongside other Asians have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Zaide 303 304) This started the wave of Filipinos wanting to migrate to the states is search of unlimited opportunities. There have been sporadic movement of Filipinos stepping foot onto American soil. During 1907 up until about 1930, they were forced to become hired help assigned to the sugar plantations in Hawaii, underpaid and living in poor conditions. There were brief periods in which Filipinos were not allowed to step foot into America, but after acquiring independence from the United States in 1946, there was an increase of migration to the states. Ever since then, the Filipino race has been steadily growing here. Minority groups that have chosen to make America their home have triumphed over many bumps in the road for freedom. My ancestors have experienced negative moments in the past with white Europeans. Just like African Americans and Irish, they suffered derogative name calling and racial slurs on a daily basis. They had to constantly deal with humiliating signs prohibiting them from entering business establishments. (Aquino) Instead of leaving and going back home, they chose to stay and try to weather the stormy conditions. Somehow managing to stay strong during hardships and obstacles shows how persistent Filipinos are to fight for what was promised to us. There have been some notable contributors who have ... • 5. Benefits Of New Technology Mr. Ojeda 4B Mia Honrubia Technological advancements help societies in various ways, helping them grow and thrive; protecting them, providing enjoyment and improving quality of life. To determine whether or not a new technology will be implemented, a strategy known as, cost benefit analysis is applied. This analysis evaluates the costs involved upfront and over time as compared to the benefits received from the new technology. For example, the development of new types of technology to be used in medical care. New techniques may be more effective or have fewer side effects, but may be too expensive to justify replacing the current standard of care. In addition to the monetary cost there may also be negative outcomes that may pose a threat to health of our society. There has to be a balance, for the new technology to be successful. An ideal new innovative technology, is safer, cheaper, faster, and easier to maintain than the old technology being replaced. Nuclear energy for example, is a relatively new kind of energy technology that is being introduced into our world. Coal and natural gas make up old technology and are currently the major energy sources in the United States. Some benefits of nuclear energy are that nuclear energy innovations have made it a much more feasible choice than others. They have high energy density as compared to fossil fuels. The amount of fuel required by nuclear power plant is comparatively less than what is required by other power plants ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While there are numerous issues currently being advertised about in the media, there is only one issue that I feel is most spoken about, that should not be. That issue is immigration. While Hillary Clinton feels that immigrants should be able to stay in the U.S., Donald Trump is a massive supporter of sending back any immigrants, especially Mexicans, to their birthplaces. I believe that Donald Trump is a huge racist and does not care about other people that are not of his race. GEICO Interview Report Time really flies; I started working here at GEICO on September 14th, 2015 and have been two and an half years; I definitely see growth, aptitude and maturity from my old self to whom I am today. Credit of such accomplishment goes to many people I have been honored to cross path with. I was interviewed by Rolston Carr and April Wilson and later joined by Mai Tran and Deidrel Roane in the same 3C conference room in which we hold most of our department meetings. Therefore, by order of things, it is only make sense that I start by thanking Rolston Carr for being the one through whom the GEICO door opened and the beginning of a long and rewarding career here. • 8. Characters Of A Dog In The Golden Compass, By Philip Pullman Three years ago, my family adopted a dog. I ending up being the one who was most reluctant to making the final decision and still was even after he had entered our family. I was the one who thought of all the negatives for we don t need a dog incorporated into our busy lives. For the first few weeks I did not like this dog, and the dog new it. Over time, I started to relate and bond with this dog. I saw how he was different, he did not act like a normal dog of his breed, different from the rest. I find the same thing in myself in my family, not like the others, but were both of us are still included and loved. Now, the dog that I didn t want and I are closer than any of my other family members are with him. In the novel The Golden Compass, the author Philip Pullman develops a similar type of relationship for each of his characters called daemons. These companions reflect a certain person s identity, soul, and changes in feeling through their different forms, usually as animals. I am being considered for Mr. Pullman s next novel and he has asked me to develop daemons of my own for the next book in his series. After a few days of thinking I have decided on three animals that would be a great representation of me in daemon form, an owl, a lemur, and a butterfly. Throughout my academic career I have tended to be a good student who got excellent in elementary school and straight A s in middle school. So what better daemon to have than owl to represent this side of me. I tend to have the ability to understand concepts and make them concrete easily when explained complete and thoroughly. This form of myself not only comes during school work but any time that I have to be analytical. One place that I have to show my thinking is on the tennis court, a sport that I play year round. Tennis is very much a mind game and at my higher level of play, I am forced to compete more and more strategically while also maintaining my consistent fundamental skills. This means observing what your opponents weakness is and applying it to the match so swing it into your favor. Placement, direction, speed, spin, are all things that need to be considered during every point. My owl is not only limited to its analytical side but its ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Nonetheless, scientists can prove five mass extinctions in history. The first mass extinction happened roughly around 445 million years ago. It was named the Ordovician Extinction. The species affected were known as Graptolite, which are different types of sea creatures. Their demise on Earth lasted around only one million years. Around sixty to seventy percent of the species disappeared, and now the remaining species have evolved into something new. The extinction was likely because of a short and dangerous ice age, or the formation of the Appalachian mountains. It was likely that glaciers formed over the oceans and caused the sea levels to rapidly drop, killing the species. The second mass extinction happened to sea creatures once again. Somewhere between 375 360 million years ago, fluctuations of the sea levels in the ocean caused a large portion of Earth s species to disappear. It is not the only form of communication, however it has become a fundamental method to present our thoughts, ideas, beliefs, and opinions to other people. It has become a necessity in American society to use media sites such as Facebook and Twitter to instantaneously access or send information. When words are censored, it strangles our ability to effectively communicate what we may be thinking. Similarly, when ideas are censored, our ability to progress as a society and as a nation is hindered. Censorship has been employed by other governments in the past as a method to influence the way a people may think about or view a topic. Therefore, government censorship of social media runs the risk of encroaching upon constitutional rights due to overreaching information control policies. Although there is an ongoing battle for what amount of censorship media sources should enforce, there are laws that are already in effect such as the Child Internet Protection Act, which aims to protect children from explicit material, and the Freedom Act, intended to prevent the government from accessing huge amounts of information that is found in record files. • 32. Zoot Suit by Luis Valdez Essay Zoot Suit by Luis Valdez Based on the infamous 1942 Sleepy Lagoon murder mystery and the resulting Zoot Suit Riots in Los Angeles , playwright Luis Valdez weaves fact and fiction to depict the fate of 22 young Mexican Americans brought to trial for a murder they did not commit. Zoot Suit brings together unforgettable characters such as the irreverent El Pachuco and the charismatic Henry Reyna, an unsuspecting gang leader who finds himself caught in the middle of the racially turbulent events that rocked Los Angeles during the early 1940s. Valdez says this production exemplifies the evolution of American society. The essence about the American experience is about cultural fusion, Valdez says. Zoot Suit has influences ... Many young playwrights tend to want to move toward making movies, mainly because of the potential to reach a world wide audience. However, you can t see your viewers reactions. At the age of 6, Valdez got his first taste of theater when he was cast to play a monkey for his school s production of Christmas in the Jungle. I use to bring my lunch in a paper bag and I remember when we were getting ready to prepare for the play, my teacher took my bag, ripped it up and used it to make papier mache, he recalls. We made masks for our costumes out of paper mache; and I got a monkey mask made from my lunch bag. I also got a tail and I remember our costumes were really nice, made with nice material. I was so excited. Valdez never got to perform in his school play because the week before the play, his family, who were farm workers, were evicted from their home and had to move. They play went on without me, he says. I never got to act and I was very disappointed. That event created this hole in me; and I think from then on I ve been trying to fill it through my work. Valdez s experience in a farm worker family provided much encouragement and drive when he founded El Teatro Campesino. In 1965, Valdez left the San Francisco Mime Troupe to join Cesar Chavez in organizing farmworkers in Delano, Calif. Valdez ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Essay on Racism and the Enslavement of African Americans Racism and the Enslavement of African Americans Did Racism cause enslavement of African Americans? To answer this question you have to determine what a slave is? And what Racism is? By my views and believes, slavery is any type of duty somebody does for you. You own them so they work for you otherwise they will get punished. Now Racism is a negative attitude towards another race. After these to words are cleared up you come to a conclusion that racism in the 17th century caused enslavement of African Americans. To believe this you have to look at the history left for us to read. The court papers, and journals of people back in the 17th century. They were captured in Maryland and returned to Jamestown, where the court sentenced all three to thirty lashes. This was considered a severe punishment even by the standards of 17th century. The two white men were sentenced to an additional four years of servitude. The strong punishment for whites, but in addition to the whipping, the black man John Punch was ordered to serve his master or his assigns for the time of his natural Life here or elsewhere. (C Degler pg 65) Because he was a different color John Punch no longer had hope for freedom. Why, because he was African and was braking the law of the land at the time. The grounds for this harsh sentence presumably lay in the fact that he was non Christian rather than in the fact that he was physically dark. But religious beliefs could change, while skin color could not. Within a generation race, religion was not being made the defining characteristic of enslaved Africans. Because the defining characteristics of Africans it lead to the terrible transformation to racial slavery. What were needed in Jamestown were laborers. Or what we call slaves to clear fields, to plant and harvest crops. During the 1620s and 1630s, when the price of tobacco was high and English workers had too few jobs available at home, Jamestown offered jobs to the few English workers that came over. • 34. A Good Story By Anne Mccaffery Anne Mccaffery once said that A good story is a good story no matter who wrote it. Well, what is a good story? More specifically, what is a good short story? A good short story should have intriguing characters that provide the readers with a rollercoaster of emotions. To make the characters as interesting as possible, there is also a need for descriptive language and specific sensory details. The events in the story should engage the reader and lead them into another world, they should let readers journey through the story with the characters one page at a time. This applies to all stories, but to achieve this in a short story is harder, since it is shorter in length. Another thing that is important in a short story is the mood. When ... Well yes, I said, As a matter of fact I was! When the boys in the story are discussing the great melon that belonged to Mr. Wills in the story, Deal drops a sudden bomb on each reader. Throughout the whole story, Deal talks of the great melon that no one dares to steal, then out of nowhere, our main character decides to steal it. This big risk is the start of an exciting, adventurous story. Since one risk isn t enough, Deal gives the reader risk after risk. An example of that is shown right after the boy decides to steal the melon, Anybody could steal it on a dark night, I said scornfully. I m going to take it right out from under his nose. Tonight. This bold and seemingly stupid response that Deal has inserted in the story is not without reason. This risk shows many emotions of the protagonist. His loathing towards Mr. Wills and his pride and ignorance as a growing teenager is what results in this decision. These complex feelings that are slowly shown to the reader makes this story outstanding. The last and best risk the character takes gives us proof of his great nature, which is demonstrated when the boy is talking to his father, Because I m afraid he ll shoot me, I said. • 35. Historic Journey into Outer Space Since the historic journey into outer space by Yuri Gagarin, manned spaceflight and space exploration have generated and motivated astounding inventions and innovations. These discoveries and developments affect every single person on Earth, and have improved a wide range of fields including health, food, technology, entertainment, automobile, dental, medical, safety, sports, and many more industries. The first of this myriad of technological advances is the artificial heart pump, called the MicroMed DeBakey VAD heart pump. It is a ventricular assist device that serves as a temporary solution until a heart transplant is available. It works by pumping blood throughout the body to keep patients alive until a heart is available. David Saucier, a NASA engineer and rocket engine fuel pump expert, collaborated with Dr. Michael DeBakey, a heart surgeon to scale down the pumping technology used in the space shuttle s main engine pumps. Another of these great technological advances is the LifeShear Pyrotechnic Cutter. The LifeShear cutter or more informally jaws of life is currently used by firefighters as an emergency rescue tool to free victims from car accident wreckage. NASA s pyrotechnical separation technology was implemented in the LifeShear cutters making them 70% cheaper than other handheld cutters as well as 50% percent lighter. What are the risk factors for babies born with low birth weight? According to Pillitteri (2014), low birth weight is a baby born weight under 2500 grams (p. 708). Babies that are considered to be LBW can be preterm or full term. Ryan et al. (2011), reported that: LBW can arise from two conditions: preterm birth ( 37 weeks gestation) or intrauterine growth restriction. Fetal and neonatal morbidity and mortality are strongly related to LBW. During development, children who were born with a LBW may experience stunted growth, cognitive problems, and chronic diseases in later life. A multitude of determinants influence gestational age and growth of the fetus, which in turn cause LBW. These include socio economic, behavioral, and physiological determinants such as nutrition, poverty, and gestational weight gain. (p. 588). According to Chen et al. (2009), ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If a person learns from myth to live in this world as a whole person, she has a truth at least as functional as one taken from recorded history or documented fact. Billy Pritty in The Shipping News does not use recorded scientific methods to chart his way in the water, as one who studies history might. Rather he relies on oral tradition to keep his boat from hitting known sinkers. Enveloped in thick fog, Billy uses a rhyme from the time when people sailed without modern aides such as charts or lights: When the Knitting Pins you is abreast, Desperate Cove bears due west Behind the Pins you must steer Til The Old Man s Shoe does appear. The tickle lies just past the toe, It s narrow, you must slowly go. (175) The idea of finding one s path by way of myth or oral tradition is typically Canadian, since not all of Canada has been mapped from the ground. In many cases myth is more reliable than recorded history because its telling goes back farther in time, and thus it existed before documentation. It had power before the printing press inked history books. Further, the example of the Gammy Bird (a paper that prints fake advertisements and recycles wrecks to present them as new) as a spreader of information and truth proves that documented facts are not always to be believed. • 38. Inevitability Of Eternal Life I try to live life happily and fully because I know that the time on Earth is limited. What makes the life precious is the inevitability of the death. Day by day, from birth, everyone is approaching a step closer to his or her final hour. Even the Bible mentions in Ecclesiastes 3 that there is a time for everything ... a time to be born and a time to die . Many scientists tried to research the concept of mortality, and yet, this matter needs further study, or it will remain unknown until each person encounters at a time of death. I still remember the first decease scene I witnessed as a child; it was my great grandfather s. He was an atheist for his whole life and neither did he believe the afterlife. In spite of this, right before he ceased to breathe, my family heard him saying, I believe in God, I want an eternal life . I suppose that my great grandfather wanted to have peace and be sincere before leaving this world which he could not return. Notably, a lot of people throughout the times believed the afterlife. Egyptians, for example, believe that the souls continue their life even after the death. Others, for instance, the Christians, believe of resurrection at return of Jesus. Christian s burials are interesting that it is still a popular tourist attraction in Rome. • 40. Tuberculosis Or Tb Is Caused By Mycobacterium Tuberculosis Tuberculosis or TB is caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Mycobacteria are aerobic bacteria, which do not form spores and are non motile. They are curved, intracellular rods, and have cell walls made of glycolipids and phospholipidglycans that protect them from lysosomal attacks. TB is one of the world s deadliest diseases. Approximately one out of three people worldwide are infected; in 2014, 9.6 million people were diagnosed with TB and there were 1.5 million deaths (CDC, 2014). This disease is highly contagious, and although the number of cases reported has decreased, the decrease was smaller than in previous years. New strains of drug resistant TB pose a threat to the global population as a whole; less than half of those diagnosed with drug resistant TB are successfully cured. Humans are the only known carrier of Tuberculosis; it is spread from person to person through aerosol droplets released into the air when an infected person coughs, sneezes, speaks, or sings. The infection cannot be spread by: shaking someone s hand, sharing food or drink, touching bed linens or toilet seats, sharing toothbrushes, or kissing (CDC, 2014). One cough from an infected individual can produce 3,000 infected droplets and it only takes ten bacilli to initiate an infection (Herchline, 2015). Since the disease is spread through the air, micro epidemics are common in closed communities such as hospitals, nursing homes, prisons, submarines, and on transcontinental flights. ...
