The Honolulu Board of Water Supply (BWS) uses geographic information systems (GIS) to manage its water infrastructure data and provide services to over 500 employees. BWS' GIS program started in 1989 and maintains spatial data for over 160,000 service connections and 2,100 miles of pipelines. Key GIS applications include HONU for web mapping, MANO for mobile workforce management, and GISMO for work order integration. BWS shares data with the City/County and other agencies and is developing live data feeds. The GIS program supports asset management, field data collection, and enterprise mapping, analysis, and collaboration tools.
Impact of Different Types of Land Use on Transportation System of Dhaka City ...Shahadat Hossain Shakil
Land use distribution and transportation both are very important issue for Dhaka city in recent period. To relate these two issues with each other is also a very effective job but a difficult one indeed. This study intends to find out the impact of different land use changes on the transportation system of Dhaka city. One of the most important roads of Dhaka city, Mirpur Road has been taken to understand and to analyze for this study. This study will help to take significant decisions and generate proper policies in transportation sector. It will also contribute to the attempts of combining land use planning and transportation planning. By assessing the land use change impact on transportation system, traffic management, congestion control and improvement of road network will be possible to make.
Why it’s Needed?
Traffic congestion-insufficient road development-growing number of vehicles.
Low speed, increased accident rates, increased fuel consumption, and increased pollution.
Impossible to build enough new roads or to meet the demand.
These explore the concepts that treat highway systems and the vehicles that use them as integrated system. Among them is the concept of Intelligent Transportation Systems.
The goal of I T S is to improve the transportation system to make it more efficient and safer by use of information, communications and control technologies.
India is going through a period of drastic change in the transportation area due to:
Rapidly growing economy.
Insufficient and inadequate public transportation system.
Rising vehicle ownership levels.

I T S ARCHITECTURE
· Framework for planning, defining, and integrating intelligent transportation systems.
Benefits of Architecture
Reduces time and resources required to integrate the technologies to local needs
Helps identify agencies and jurisdictions & seeks their participation
COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS
Effective and efficient operation of transit systems relies on a communications infrastructure and vehicle-based communications technologies.
Communications systems are used to transmit voice and data between transit vehicles and operation centers, and to transmit commands between operators and technologies.
Transit communications systems are comprised mostly of wireless technologies and applications.
FLEET MANAGEMENT AND OPERATIONS
These includes separate technologies often are combined in various software packages, which allow for the integration of many different transit functions.
GIS allows transit agencies to accurately track where demand is located in their service area.
APPLICATIONS OF I T S
ELECTRONIC TOLL COLLECTION(E T C)
GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM(G P S)
ADVANCED TRAVELLER INFORMATION SYSTEM(ATIS)
IN-VEHICLE TRANSIT INFORMATION SYSTEM
AUTOMATIC PASSENGER COUNTER
ADVANTAGES OF I T S
Improved safety
Better traffic flow
Lower travel cost
Better environmental quality
Increased business activity
Greater user acceptance
Better travel information
Better planning information
DISADVANTAGES OF I T S
Difficult to use in mixed traffic
Preliminary difficulties in understanding
ITS equipments costly

Esri UC 2017 Water Meeting - How Central San Became a GIS-Centric Water Resou...Carl Von Stetten
In 2016 Central San completed the migration of its GIS operations to the ArcGIS platform to provide a foundation for a GIS-Centric operation. Central San leveraged the Local Government Information Model (LGIM) and associated maps, applications, and tools to improve the quality and efficiency of maintaining sewer, recycled water, and parcel-related GIS data. The completed GIS system became the authoritative data source for several other mission-critical applications: an intranet GIS portal, a Computerized Maintenance Management System, a CCTV pipeline inspection system, a hydraulic model, and a capital improvement planning system.
ColdFusion Summit 2016 - Powering GIS Operations with ColdFusionCarl Von Stetten
ColdFusion has played a vital role in CCCSD’s Geographic Information System (GIS) operations for more than 15 years. I have used ColdFusion to develop several successful intranet web applications: two GIS map portals, the reporting engine for a brand-new GIS web portal, and a workflow tracking and records management tool for CCCSD infrastructure projects. In the first part of this session I’ll share how these applications have evolved and why ColdFusion was crucial to their success.
While the ColdFusion Markup Language (CFML) is one of the easiest web-development languages to learn, being a “part-time” and self-taught (remember the “CF WACK” books?) developer has made honing my skills quite challenging. Being the sole web developer in my organization has presented additional challenges – I have no co-workers to mentor me or perform code reviews. In the second part of this session I’ll share how I get assistance (as well as offer assistance), which community-developed tools have made my life easier, and how I filter the relevant gems from the ever-growing mountain of “new” and “awesome” web application technologies and methods.

Russian anarchist and anti-war movement in the third year of full-scale warAntti Rautiainen
Anarchist group ANA Regensburg hosted my online-presentation on 16th of May 2024, in which I discussed tactics of anti-war activism in Russia, and reasons why the anti-war movement has not been able to make an impact to change the course of events yet. Cases of anarchists repressed for anti-war activities are presented, as well as strategies of support for political prisoners, and modest successes in supporting their struggles.
