2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Homework-content analysis.
The main parts of the magazine that are shown
inside the magazine is that there is 12 free ‘wall of
fame’ posters. This will want to make people buy this
magazine because they will see their favourite
artists/inspirations as a poster that they can have
on their wall.
Another main part of the magazine is that along with
the magazine you get a free CD with ‘15 new bands’.
This will appeal to the target audience because if
they see that new bands that they have never heard,
they might think it’s a good idea because even
though they have never heard of these bands/artists
before they know that they will be the genre of music
they are into.
In this magazine the articles are about how Korn are making a reunion to make a new album,
now that one of the band members is out of rehab, and inside of this article it he explains
how Johnathan Davis got addicted to these drugs and how he had got off them as the cover
line says “Drugs rewired my brain”. Also this being the main article of the magazine will
make the reader turn straight to that, and the fans of Korn will want to read about his time
and how is better now and the future of Korn. Also the image of wires coming out of his brain
fits in with the cove line as well, which adds humour for the readers.
Also in this magazine there is articles about 5 different bands/artists one of these being
Avenged Sevenfold.
Some of the products that are advertised inside the magazine is E-Cigarettes,
this would be a good thing to advertise because of the
target audience being male leaning, and more males smoke it will
help them to try and make a decision to stop smoking. Another
thing that is advertised inside the magazine is tours and band
merchandise. These are also a good thing to sell inside a
metal/rock magazine as , stereotypically people that listen to this
genre of music always wear band merchandise, so having it
advertised is a good idea as people will want to buy it. Also with
them advertising the band/artists tours is the same as the band
merchandise, it will just make people want to buy tickets and go
and see their favourite bands live.
