3. INTRODUCTION
Sound and picture were always perceived as one until
Thomas Edison made the first sound recording in 1877.
Since the beginning of music, it has always been that way.
As one listened to music, one witnessed a performance.
However, with the development of recording technology, a
listener could now play back only the audio of a
performance—even one that had already occurred. It was
practically a revolution.
However, it's possible that seeing and hearing go hand in
hand in human nature. So the audience for those
recordings wanted to see something while they listened,
just as Edison's innovation transformed the experience of
hearing. As soon as "moving pictures" technology was
developed in the 1890s, music began to use these visuals.

In 1894 a couple of sheet music publishers - Edward B
Marks
and Joe Stern decided to hire an electrician - George
Thomas and other various performers to promote their song
"The Little Lost Child."
During live performances of the song, Thomas screened a
collection of still pictures using a "magic lantern".
The song "The Little Lost Child" gained popularity across
the country as a result of the illustrated song performances,
selling more than two million copies of its sheet music.
The illustrated song became a popular form of
entertainment, and is considered the first step toward music
video.
5. The first sound films –were also musical in nature.
The 1927 film The Jazz Singer, in which recording
star Al Jolson acted and sang, was the first film in
which sound and picture were synchronized. After
decades of separation, sound and image seemed to
be back in their original relationship, reaching the
eyes and ears of the audience together. But there
was more to come.“Musical shorts,” such as the
1929 Bessie Smith film “St. Louis Blues”, used the
lyrics of a song as the basis for a short “scene" with
the performer and other actors.

6. FILMS MUSIC COMBINED
Since today's “cinema,” in which a
single film is shown, was not yet a fixed
concept, these “short films" played
along with feature films and even other
forms of entertainment such as live
dancers, musicians, and comedians.
In the 1940s, “visual jukebox” machines
took film to new venues, allowing users
to pay a nickel or a dime for a three-
minute “soundie” like the Louis Jordan
film “Caldonia".
The advent of television opened up new
possibilities for sound and pictures. In
The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet
series, young Ricky Nelson began
singing songs at the end of the show –
and the audience demanded more.

7. Cartoons such as Merrie Melodies' and Looney
Tunes' by Warner Brothers were originally formed
around specific songs from upcoming Warner
Brother musical films such as
the Jazz Singer(1927),mentioned earlier…

8. 05/THEINFLUENCEOFMUSICFILMS
1930S-1970S
The music film was another element that
came before music videos, which is why
it is so important and influential. As a
result, classic Hollywood musicals were
imitated from the 1930s to the 1970s.
9. The term “music video” was
invented by the disc jockey singer
J.P. “The Big Popper” Richardson.

Later, these videos were distributed to and
played by U.S. and British television stations.
An example of strain Tony Barnate raga that
he played while being filmed walking on the
Serpentine in Hyde Park, London. With this
song began his career as an international
artist.
With the increasing popularity of
television, it was possible to
discover new stars who had
previously been forgotten due to
Hollywood.
This gave more people the
opportunity to be successful.
10. 07/THEBEATLES1964
The Beatles were one of the most commercially successful and acclaimed groups in the history of
popular music. The English rock band was formed in Liverpool in 1960.The Beatles starred in their
first feature film, A Hard Day's Night, in 1964. The film was directed by Richard Lester and was shot
in black and white.
It contained: 1.A freely organized melodic composition of free/improvisatory nature
2.Distribute melodic groupings with comedic and discourse ones
3.A grouping with outfitted essential templates It was moreover a coordinate demonstrate for the
Monkees (effective US TV arrangement) which comprised of comparable film portions that were
made to go with different Monkees songs.
11. As much as musicians explored the possibilities of film, up to this point the videos produced were almost
always visitor additions to other programs. Musicians appeared before feature film production, as guests on
TV, and as performers in variety show segments, but music videos had no permanent place in their own
programming. That is,until the launch of MTV on August 1, 1981. The 24-hour-a-day music video programming
of MTV gave musicians and their audiences a platform to fully explore the experience of sound and image.

13. By the beginning of the 2000s era, non representation form
videos, had become more popular and therefore common.
In 2005 YouTube had its launch. It made video viewing
faster and easier which made it very popular quickly.
Websites such as MySpace, Facebook and Google Video
were similar to YouTube at this time as they operated on
similar technologies.
Many artists benefited from this as they had a higher
chance of becoming more successful due to multiple
popular platforms and the views they were getting.

14. It didnt take long for YouTube to become an
international success, thanks to this- many
artists’ videos become even more successful
due to the views they were getting.
An example of this is Justing Bieber’s song
“Baby” hitting 500 million views in 2010; beating
Lady Gaga’s song “Bad Romance” which only
had 130 million views at the time.

According to Google,
On January 13, 2022, Pinkfong's "Baby
Shark" became the first video to hit
10,000,000,000 views, being the most
watched video on YouTube ever.
However if we’re talking about the mot
viewed artist’s music video today- that
would be Miley Cyrus’s song “Flowers”.
