Language began when our ancestors started imitating the
natural sounds around them. The first speech was
onomatopoeic --marked by echoic words such as moo,
meow, splash, cuckoo, and bang.

The Ding-Dong Theory
Plato and Pythagoras, maintains that speech arose in
response to the essential qualities of objects in the
environment. The original sounds people made were
supposedly in harmony with the world around them.
The La-La Theory
The Danish linguist Otto Jespersen suggested that
language may have developed from sounds
associated with love, play, and (especially) song.

The Pooh-Pooh Theory
This theory holds that speech began with
interjections spontaneous cries of pain
("Ouch!"), surprise ("Oh!"), and other emotions
("Yabba dabba do!").
The Yo-He-Ho Theory
According to this theory, language evolved
from the grunts, groans, and snorts evoked
by heavy physical labor.

Bangla Language is the
easternmost of the languages
belonging to the Indo-
European language family.
This new Indo-Aryan (NIA)
language is historically
related to Irish, english,
French, Greek, Russian,
persian etc. Bangla is
bounded by Oriya, Magadhi
and Maithili to the west and
Assamese on the east.

21 march, 1948- Md. Ali Jinnah, the Governor General of
Pakistan, Declared, “Urdu and only Urdu” as the state
language of Pakistan in Ramna Racecourse (Suhrawardy
Uddan), Dhaka, East Pakistan.
21 February, 1952- At nine o'clock in the morning,
students began gathering on the Dhaka University
premises in defiance of Section 144. Police opened fire
and killed a number of students, including Abdus Salam,
Rafiq Uddin Ahmed, Abul Barkat and Abdul Jabbar.

 Decided to commemorate 21 February as Shohid
Dibosh by the Shorbodolio Kendrio Rahstrobhasha
Kormi Porishod.
 This movement laid a major foundation of our
liberation war.
 21 February was declared to be the International
Mother Language Day by UNESCO in 1999. It has
been observed throughout the world since 21 February
2000. The declaration came up in tribute to the
Language Movement done by the Bangladeshis.

Beside Bangla language there are 38 languages that are in use in
Bangladesh. If we travel around the country we might encounter
languages. These languages may have geographical, religious or
ethnic origins and are kept very much alive in their particular
geographical areas.
