2. Language documentation is a subfield of linguistics
where language’s primary data is compiled and preserved.
In simple words it is said as a lasting , multipurpose
record of a language.
language endangerment is the main reason for language
documentation. The primary data which constitute the core
of a language documentation include audio or video
recordings of a communicative event , their vocabulary lists ,
grammar rules etc….
The three main steps are:

 Language documentation can be beneficial to
individuals who would like to teach or learn an
endangered language. Documentation can be useful
for understanding culture and heritage, to keep
memory of the facts important for the local
communities, families, individuals.

4. Language documentation and teaching have a relationship
because if there are no fluent speakers of a language,
documentation can be used as a teaching resource.
The aim of documentation is not just recording the sounds
of language as such, but recording the sounds of language
as communicative events .
In 2008, two American linguists active in documenting
endangered languages , then it was made into a film ‘The
Linguists’.
KAURNA LANGUAGE
Historically spoken by Kaurna people in South Australia .
However this language has been revived by documentation
of early missionaries and other researchers.

5. TIBETO-BURMA LANGUAGE
In India, endangered tibeto-burma language of nearby
Arunachal Pradesh is being documented since 2016.
 Nearly 220 Indian languages have been died in last 50 years
 197 languages in India is declared as endangered by UNESCO
HOW ARE WE GOING TO SAVE THESE LANGUAGES ?
Those languages dies with its people.
Since everything being digitalised , language documentation
also prefers digitalisation . they started to record the folk
dances , songs , idioms , their conversations of people
belonging to endangered language community . and this
digitalised format also help the visually impaired people

8.  Thus, language documentation fieldwork is often a
lengthy process during which documenters need to
travel, establish new contacts, integrate with the local
community, become familiar with their customs, habits,
and culture, before they can begin the actual work.
